  15. >> Pillars are essentials for the Christian

  16. faith. There are some things that are

  17. just nonnegotiables,

  18. that are solid, that are required, that

  19. you just got to have. How many you know

  20. that toothpaste is not optional in your

  21. house? You have got to have that right

  22. there.

  23. Amen. That's That's a good That's a good

  24. place to say amen right there. Yeah.

  25. Yeah.

  26. There's a few things there's a few

  27. things in our life that we just we just

  28. cannot do without. We're going to be

  29. dealing with some of these in this

  30. series as we kick off this this series

  31. called We the Church.

  32. as the church, as the body of Christ,

  33. who are we and what does it mean to be a

  34. Christ follower so that we're living

  35. that out in 26. Anybody make any

  36. resolutions this year?

  37. >> Don't do that to yourself, but that I

  38. mean it's okay. I know. No, it's people

  39. make the resolutions. It's all good.

  40. It's all fine. And I I just And whatever

  41. that looks like for you, what whatever

  42. it is, and it's you can make some great

  43. resolutions to I'm quitting that. I'm

  44. starting that. That's all good. I just

  45. need to let you know that God has a

  46. pre-designed, preset, pre-wired

  47. resolution for you this year.

  48. I thought y'all to know. And the

  49. resolution is this.

  50. His plan, his goal for your life is for

  51. you to build a legacy of faith

  52. >> in your family.

  53. Your family

  54. should be stronger Christ followers

  55. because you are in it.

  56. >> The influence of your life on your

  57. family should make them turn their head

  58. and look at Jesus differently,

  59. >> greater. The way you talk, the way you

  60. laugh, the way you love, the way you

  61. serve, the way you worship, the way you

  62. prioritize him at home and in church on

  63. the weekends,

  64. there should be something about your

  65. life that, God forbid, you were to be to

  66. to exit that they would say, "This is

  67. what they set for me and our house."

  68. Right now, I have the honor of working

  69. on continuing building the Thomas

  70. legacy. We're now into five generations

  71. of Christ followers in our in our

  72. family. That's as far back as I can

  73. affirm. There might have been some more

  74. before that, but we had some heathens

  75. mixed in, too.

  76. >> Yeah. My family looked like your family.

  77. That's exactly right. I did a deep dive

  78. in my family tree one time. I just

  79. decided to cut the tree down cuz it was

  80. scary. It was scary. like like I got

  81. some knots up inside that tree and some

  82. some branches going this you know all

  83. all that kind of thing. Uh but but I I

  84. we're going to we're going to leave a

  85. legacy. We're going to make an impact.

  86. Deuteronomy chapter 6 tells us moms and

    Deuteronomy 6 chapter mention

  87. dads when you are at home talk about

  88. impress me on your children. Make sure

  89. they know who I am. Psalms tells tell

  90. praise me to the next generation. Make

  91. sure they know my deeds. who I am, what

  92. I can do. Raise awareness. Testify of

  93. me. This is in our Bible. Make an impact

  94. uh of faith in our friends. Build the

  95. reputation amongst your your peers that

  96. you are a Christ follower. We're serve

  97. Christ in culture. Wherever we are,

  98. we're repping him. We want to we want to

  99. carry that. But the only way the only

  100. way that that's going to happen is if we

  101. stand on two essentials. You got to have

  102. these down, y'all. that you got to have

  103. them down. You might want to write both

  104. of these down. Put one in one shoe and

  105. one of the other so you can stand on

  106. these two essentials right here. And

  107. here's what they are. Number one, the

  108. Bible is the only authority you live by.

  109. >> Not the Quran.

  110. >> No, no. Let's let's get real straight

  111. today. Let's get real straight. all this

  112. man-made fabricated stuff that's full of

  113. errors and fallacies and breakdown. You

  114. stand on the living word of God

  115. that was written over 1,500 years by 40

  116. different writers, only one author, but

  117. it all comes together without any error

  118. or any fallacy or breakdown in it. You

  119. build your life on the word of God as

  120. the only authority. I don't care what

  121. Washington votes on. I don't care what

  122. legislation comes down. If it doesn't

  123. line up with the word of God, it doesn't

  124. line up with my life. I will follow

  125. God's word over everything.

  126. >> Oh, it's a different day, y'all. It's a

  127. different day. We're living in a time

  128. right now where you just can't assume

  129. everything is going to line up with

  130. God's word. You better know that this

  131. right here is the constitution of my

  132. life.

  133. >> The Bible is the only authority. That's

  134. number one. And number two, Jesus is the

  135. only savior.

  136. >> Now, now you you got to have those two

  137. down. You got to know that. You got to

  138. believe that. You got to stand on it.

  139. There's a lot of great people. There's a

  140. lot other faiths. People have different

  141. ideas and beliefs. And they're precious.

  142. They're wonderful people. Love them. But

  143. I'm just telling you now, Jesus is the

  144. way, the truth, the life. Nobody gets to

  145. heaven or sees the father except through

  146. Jesus.

  147. [Applause]

  148. You got to get used to holding that. You

  149. got to get used to differing with people

  150. in your life.

  151. I can differ with you without being

  152. offensive about it.

  153. >> But like I say, I just don't see it that

  154. way. I live my life different.

  155. >> And we stand on those things. The Bible

  156. is the only authority. Jesus is the only

  157. savior.

  158. It's really important though the order

  159. that we mention because unless you see

  160. your Bible as the only authority, you

  161. will never see Jesus as the only savior.

  162. So we've got to start with our Bible.

  163. We we we need a wonderful, loving,

  164. uplose and personal relationship with

  165. the word of God in our life.

  166. It can't just be something that we see

  167. crossstitch on grandma's wall somewhere

  168. where she's got her favorite verse

  169. there. This got to be something that

  170. this is my Bible. This is my message

  171. from God to me that I hold dear. This is

  172. my personal map for living my life. This

  173. tells me how to handle people that I

  174. work with that get on my nerves. This

  175. right here helps me deal with that crazy

  176. uncle in the house. This right here

  177. helps me deal with me. This right here

  178. is everything. The road map. Y'all

  179. remember the B I

  180. Yes.

  181. >> I can't hear you. I

  182. [Music]

  183. >> I expected more from the nine o'clock

  184. crowd, but that's okay. That's okay. You

  185. should have had like three-part harmony

  186. going on right there. Yeah. All that.

  187. The Bible is the preeminent truth and

  188. absolute standard for life. Period.

  189. Folks, there's not another revelation of

  190. God. There's not another book to add to

  191. it. You don't add to or take away from

  192. the book. God didn't pull any punches.

  193. Don't pull anything out. Don't redact

  194. it. Don't change it to fit your

  195. lifestyle. Change your life to fit the

  196. word. This is how this is the anchor

  197. point. This is the focal point.

  198. Everything revolves around the word of

  199. God. We've got to know his word. John 17

    John 17:17

  200. verse 17. Read this loud. Read it proud.

  201. Here's what it says. Your word is truth.

  202. Done.

  203. Your word is truth.

  204. Let God be true. Everything else a lie.

  205. God is true. God's word is true. This is

  206. why we're pushing our B yo B in 26.

  207. Bring your own Bible. Bring your own

  208. Bible in 26.

  209. I want you to to get close. I want you

  210. to get personal. I want your

  211. fingerprints. Le let's put some wear and

  212. tear on our Bibles as we open and close

  213. them, reading them this year. We want to

  214. make this a manual for our lives.

  215. Learning to live God's word.

  216. Dwight Moody, the evangelist and

  217. publisher

  218. in the 1800s who made such radical

  219. impact in the church world. Here's what

  220. he said. This book will keep you from

  221. sin or sin will keep you from this book.

  222. We get to decide which side of that

  223. phrase we're on.

  224. It's one of the two. I have noticed in

  225. my life when I was trying to do me

  226. instead of God, I didn't want to read

  227. the Bible today. I I I I wasn't into

  228. what God had to say cuz I knew it was

  229. going to be a little bit different than

  230. the way I was feeling I was thinking or

  231. what I wanted to do.

  232. This book will keep you from sin or sin

  233. will keep you from the book. Let's talk

  234. about the power of your Bible today.

  235. Paul, this guy who wrote twothirds of

  236. the New Testament was writing to his

  237. young protege. His name was Timothy.

  238. Paul was writing from a Roman prison.

  239. Neero had had arrested Paul, put him in

  240. prison. This is the second time he had

  241. been imprisoned. And Paul was pretty

  242. sure this time he would be executed for

  243. his faith. And according to what

  244. historians tell us, in fact, he was.

  245. This was the last this is the time that

  246. he he died after this that he was

  247. executed.

  248. But he wrote this letter to Timothy. And

  249. so understand it was Paul's kind of

  250. closing words. I've written twothirds of

  251. the New Testament. I've sent I've sent

  252. letters out to churches everywhere

  253. encouraging building but building faith

  254. and but but this this one thing I need

  255. to leave young Timothy this young pastor

  256. who's I he he's bless his heart he's

  257. kind of timid uh he's a sweet he's a

  258. sweet guy and God's hands on his life

  259. but I need to kind of because there's a

  260. moral decay and there's false teachers

  261. going on in culture right now and I need

  262. to equip him and encourage him how to

  263. handle what's going on inside of his

  264. world And here's here's what he writes.

  265. 2 Timothy 3:16 says this. And by the

    2 Timothy 3:16

  266. way, if you have your Bible, you can

  267. open with me uh to to 2 Timothy 3:16.

    2 Timothy 3:16

  268. You don't have to just look at it there.

  269. And I would encourage you, if you

  270. brought your own Bible, you can get your

  271. own pen and you can underline or you can

  272. circle verses. It's amazing how you can

  273. do that because it's your Bible.

  274. Second, and and if you're borrowing

  275. someone else's Bible, write in it

  276. anyway. They're not writing in it. You

  277. write in it and it'll be your Bible

  278. anyway. 2 Timothy 3:16, here's what it

    2 Timothy 3:16

  279. says. All scripture is inspired by God

  280. and is useful to teach us what is true

  281. and to make us realize what is wrong.

  282. >> It corrects us when we are wrong and

  283. teaches us to do what is right.

  284. >> All scripture is inspired. What What

  285. does that word inspire mean? It means

  286. it's been breathed out by God. This

  287. wasn't the fabrication of man. Man

  288. didn't come up with this. Let me just

  289. kind of put it this way. Man cannot

  290. write a book at this level.

  291. >> If you and I were to choose to write

  292. this book, I would never set the

  293. standard so high that I couldn't meet

  294. it.

  295. >> I would set a standard that, oh, I'm

  296. crushing it. I'm I'm living my best

  297. life. Bam. If I were to write a book, I

  298. would never tell me or hold the standard

  299. that I'm to love my enemies.

  300. >> I I I I wouldn't be I wouldn't be

  301. excited about that. I would never I

  302. would never never require me to forgive

  303. somebody.

  304. I WOULDN'T WANT TO EXTEND GRACE TO THEM.

  305. I WANT GRACE, but I wouldn't write it in

  306. that they get it. Also,

  307. we wouldn't write a book. We couldn't

  308. write a book at that level. No, this

  309. book is inspired. It is God breathed.

  310. It's inherent. It's infallible. It is

  311. never changing. This book is at a level

  312. that is beyond what a man could put

  313. together. I if I were writing that, I

  314. would never have written hell in there.

  315. Oh, no. Hell no. Heaven. Yes. That's

  316. that's what I would have done.

  317. It wasn't our idea. You see, here's the

  318. reality. You don't read the Bible. The

  319. Bible reads you.

  320. >> This is this is the holiness. This is

  321. the power. This is the the impact of

  322. God's word. It teaches what's true so

  323. that we will avoid living a lie. Oh,

  324. have you ever been deceived by somebody

  325. and you ran down that road for a while

  326. only to find out that they were playing

  327. you in the end? It's frustrating when

  328. you think you've lost months or years

  329. based on what somebody else said. God's

  330. word says, "I want to expose the

  331. deception so you don't live believing a

  332. lie." And you're putting your full

  333. weight on something that will actually

  334. hold you in the end. It exposes. Oh, the

  335. Bible exposes me

  336. >> and you,

  337. >> our pride, our attitude, the excuses we

  338. keep coming up with as to why we can't,

  339. the sin that we love, our pet sins. Oh,

  340. we preach against sins that we've

  341. overcome or we don't deal with, but we

  342. hide our pet sins. We don't talk about

  343. them.

  344. >> Oh, just keep looking this way. Ju just

  345. go act like I'm not talking to you. Just

  346. look right here. It exposes us. It

  347. corrects us. It brings us to a place of

  348. repentance. It makes us want to change,

  349. start some things, stop some things,

  350. leave some things. It it instructs us.

  351. It gives us purpose in life. it

  352. decisions, lifestyle. It begins to

  353. morph. It celebrates us. It encourage

  354. us. It gives us hope and strength. No

  355. book compares to this book.

  356. >> Amen.

  357. >> Your Bible, this book that we hold dear

  358. to our hearts is holy, living, and the

  359. active word of God. The founders of

  360. America understood this. They got a lot

  361. of things twisted. They struggled

  362. through some things but they understood

  363. who God was and wrote it into the

  364. declaration of independence as to who we

  365. are and our civilation civilization was

  366. built on its principles. Medicine is

  367. conf has confirmed its claims. Science

  368. has learned from its pages. Astronomy

  369. has been educated by it. Archaeology has

  370. proven its validity. History affirms its

  371. records. Intellectuals have attempted to

  372. delegitimize it and failed. Atheists

  373. can't erase it. They fought it, but it

  374. keeps standing only to change the

  375. atheist heart to now believe in the one

  376. true and living God. This word has stood

  377. the test of time. And I don't care what

  378. question you throw at it, it'll still be

  379. here when you're done questioning

  380. because God is the same yesterday,

  381. today, and forever. He does not change.

  382. And his living word is his promise to

  383. you and I.

  384. The Bible is greater than other books.

  385. Like the entire sum of human knowledge

  386. stored in every library on earth is

  387. greater than a single X scratched into

  388. the dirt by a toddler. This Bible is

  389. greater than every other book. Like the

  390. artistic complexity of the cyine chapel

  391. ceiling is greater than a stick figure

  392. man drawn on a napkin with a leaky pen.

  393. The Bible is greater than all other

  394. books. Like the unstoppable earth

  395. shaking force of a category 5 hurricane

  396. is greater than a gentle breeze coming

  397. from a Victorian lady waving a paper

  398. fan. The Bible is greater than every

  399. other book like an overflowing

  400. neverending royal banquet is greater

  401. than a single dry breadcrumb found at

  402. the bottom of a toaster. God's word is

  403. power. God's word is force. God's word

  404. is that that brings life to you and I.

  405. Matthew 24 says, "Heaven and earth will

  406. pass away, but my word shall remain

  407. forever."

  408. Second Timothy

  409. chapter 3:17, the verse after what we

  410. open with Paul speaking to Timothy, he

  411. goes on to say this,

  412. God uses it to prepare and equip his

  413. people to do every good work. God uses

  414. his word to prepare us. This is why you

  415. and I have got to know this book.

  416. Because if I don't know this book, I'm

  417. unprepared for life.

  418. >> I'm I'm I'm shooting from the hip. I'm

  419. trying stuff. I'm driving in a city that

  420. I don't know where I am.

  421. Drive the state the the city of New York

  422. for the first time with no GPS.

  423. [Music]

  424. Oh, you're going to be going the wrong

  425. way. I promise you. I don't care where

  426. you're going. You're going wrong.

  427. >> God's word leads us that way. How how

  428. does the Bible prep and equip us?

  429. Cindy, her her car lease came up and we

  430. were going to go get her a get her a new

  431. car here recently. And um my wife, you

  432. know, she she's she's she's Puerto

  433. Rican. She's Puerto Rican. And I love

  434. that about my wife. But but come come

  435. come come come come come come come come

  436. comes coming coming coming pre pre-wired

  437. in a in a in a proper Puerto Rican woman

  438. >> is that uh anytime that the the the

  439. temperature drops below 70, it's

  440. officially arctic weather.

  441. And so inside of the accessories that

  442. Cindy has to have in her vehicle, she

  443. got to have a booty warmer in that car.

  444. Oh yeah, she got to have them heated

  445. seats in Florida. And she informed the

  446. salesman. She goes, "And I need a heated

  447. steering wheel. I need a I got to have a

  448. a steer." She She goes, "My husband's

  449. truck and my he has he drives a truck

  450. and he's got a heated steering wheel. I

  451. I I need a heated steering wheel in my

  452. car." And the salesman looked back and

  453. he said, "Uh, ma'am, the car that you're

  454. turning in has a heated steering wheel."

  455. She said, "Shut up." And he said, "No,

  456. it it it does." I said, 'Are you

  457. serious? We went out there, sat on her

  458. car.

  459. The manual says there's a little button

  460. underneath the steering column, pushed

  461. that button. Look at that right there.

  462. You see, there's a there's a manual to

  463. her car in the glove box that we never

  464. looked at all three years.

  465. And everything she said she wanted was

  466. already there. She was just unaware of

  467. it cuz she never looked at the manual to

  468. discover what was actually equipped for

  469. her life. So, she drove around

  470. frustrated and wanting something that

  471. she thought she didn't have when she was

  472. already wired for it. I need you to

  473. understand that you've got a manual in

  474. your glove box. It is called the living

  475. word of God. And there's some things you

  476. think you're missing in life. And he

  477. says, "No, I've already equipped you.

  478. I've wired you for this thing. It's

  479. already there. But I got to show you how

  480. to access those things that I promised

  481. you. There's nothing missing, nothing

  482. broken in your life, and you have full

  483. access to it. So, how does the Bible

  484. prepare and equip us? It shows us some

  485. things. Number one, real quickly, God's

  486. word, it nourishes us. In other words,

  487. y'all need some spiritual calories in

  488. your life.

  489. Y'all need some spiritual carbs is what

  490. I'm trying to tell you. Some of y'all

  491. are spiritual hangry. Yeah. You know,

  492. anybody that gets hangry that like when

  493. when they're hungry, they get angry and

  494. they just get on your neck. Okay, look,

  495. there people admitting it right now.

  496. Lord, all those hands raised. Would you

  497. just help them and all those around

  498. them?

  499. There's no reason FOR YOU AND I TO BE

  500. spiritually hangry in our lives.

  501. >> No. No. God's word is there to feed you

  502. with some spiritual calories to get you

  503. through. 1 Peter chapter 2:2 says this,

  504. "Desire God's pure word as newborn

  505. babies desire milk. Then you will grow

  506. in your salvation." Literally, the Bible

  507. talks about growing in our faith. The

  508. Bible is milk for brand new believers.

  509. You don't you don't take a piece of

  510. bread and cram it down a three-month-old

  511. throat. They'll choke on it. But there

  512. is milk. There is that beginning entry

  513. level that will feed our lives. There's

  514. milk for newborns. But then the Bible

  515. goes on to say, "And there is solid food

  516. for mature believers." In other words,

  517. if you've been serving Jesus for 10

  518. years and you still drinking milk and

  519. you ain't eating no bread, there's

  520. something wrong with your diet.

  521. >> Oh, yes, there is. You you you need to

  522. put the bottle down and pick up the

  523. fork. We got We got to change some

  524. things. We should be growing. If I've

  525. been serving Jesus eight years and I'm

  526. not able to lead a small group,

  527. something's wrong right now. My faith

  528. ought to be advancing. I should be

  529. maturing in my faith. I should be able

  530. to tell people what he did in my life.

  531. Here's the scripture that fed me. Went

  532. through some hell in my life. Here's how

  533. he got me through. Like, you ain't got

  534. to be a preacher to do that. You got to

  535. have a pulse and an experience with

  536. Jesus. And that's all it takes.

  537. God's word will nourish us. The Bible

  538. feeds and strengthens and excites our

  539. faith. You need some bread. Turn to

  540. someone. Tell them you need some bread.

  541. >> Jesus said he is he is the bread of

  542. life. He is the carbs of life. Hey,

  543. that's right. That's what he said. Oh,

  544. but then the SECOND THING THAT THE BIBLE

  545. SAYS that he'll do is he transforms us.

  546. >> He doesn't just inform us, he transforms

  547. us.

  548. It's when his information, when his

  549. word, when his promises get inside of

  550. us, because these are living. These are

  551. active words. They're not docile.

  552. They're not dormant. They're not just

  553. black letters on white pages. If you

  554. look close enough, this book is

  555. breathing, y'all. I'm telling you right

  556. now, it's a it's alive. This book, when

  557. you ingest these words, it begins to

  558. build you. It begins to change you.

  559. James chapter 1 23-2.

    James 1 chapter mention

  560. If you have your Bible that you brought

  561. with you, you could write in the margin

  562. right there beside James chapter right

  563. right beside James chapter 1 23-2 that

    James 1 chapter mention

  564. your Bible is a mirror.

  565. That's a scary site, isn't it? That's

  566. what I got to look at every Sunday up

  567. here. Just so you know, that's what I'm

  568. looking at right now.

  569. YOUR BIBLE IS YOUR B. YOUR BIBLE IS A

  570. MIRROR.

  571. YOUR BIBLE REFLECTS BACK TO YOU.

  572. >> YOUR BIBLE REFLECTS BACK TO YOU who you

  573. are. Usually we're going

  574. [Music]

  575. >> and then all of a sudden

  576. as long as we're looking in the mirror,

  577. I don't HAVE TIME TO JUDGE you

  578. >> cuz I SEE I GOT SO MUCH TO WORK ON IN

  579. ME.

  580. This is why in the tabernacle,

  581. the basin that was called the labor

  582. where the priest would wash his hands

  583. and wash his feet, it was lined in

  584. reflective in in mirrors.

  585. So that as the priest would wash his

  586. hands, the washing of the water by the

  587. word is what the Bible tells us that the

  588. goal behind being washed by the word is

  589. I can see my reflection in God's word.

  590. that I don't look different than the

  591. word. I look like the word.

  592. >> My attitude mirrors the word. My

  593. relationships mirror the word. How I'm

  594. parenting, how I'm handling my finances,

  595. how I deal with people at Walmart, it

  596. mirrors.

  597. Had to go there, didn't we? Yes, we did.

  598. The Bible according to what James tells

  599. us that when we look at it, that mirror

  600. is not condemning,

  601. it's reflective. But here's what James

  602. says it does is when you look into this

  603. word, it's not telling you you're you're

  604. horrible. You're a failure. You keep

  605. messing up every time. That's not what

  606. this book is doing.

  607. >> This book is reminding you, I know you

  608. got challenges, but you are a child of

  609. God,

  610. >> and you are fearfully and wonderfully

  611. made. And yeah, I know you on your

  612. nerves right now, but I love you in

  613. spite of you, Scott. This word is

  614. encouraging and it's reminding me that I

  615. am

  616. one of God's sons and he loves me with

  617. an everlasting love and his work is

  618. still ongoing in my life. In other

  619. words, it's not condemning me. It's

  620. building me. It is encouraging me. When

  621. you get into the word, it breaks self-

  622. condemnation off your life.

  623. that this selfhate, this negative self-t

  624. talk that eats us up and and spits. Some

  625. of us, we don't EVEN HELL STOPPED

  626. DEALING WITH our lives a long time ago

  627. because we doing a good enough job for

  628. hell.

  629. >> And now when when we begin to read the

  630. word, now shame falls off of our life.

  631. THIS GUILT, THIS HEAVINESS rolls off

  632. because when it encounters the promises

  633. of God's word and what Jesus did for you

  634. and me, it makes me live at a different

  635. place of freedom. In other words, you

  636. can't afford not to read your Bible

  637. because it makes you hopeful. It makes

  638. you thankful. It makes you confident.

  639. I'm going to just walk around naturally

  640. confident and joyful. But every time I

  641. keep seeing God's word, make promises

  642. that you're getting better, Scott, and

  643. I'm for you and not against you. I got

  644. your back. We're going to get through

  645. this. I keep reading and and feeding on

  646. so much hope. I can't help but walk

  647. around with some hope in my life. And

  648. now I got so much. I'm a hope donor. I'm

  649. a hope dealer. I CAN GIVE SOME to

  650. somebody else. This is what this ladies

  651. and gentlemen if for nothing else for

  652. your own heart, your own mind, your own

  653. spirit. Get off your back by getting

  654. into his word and let his word transform

  655. how you see yourself.

  656. Romans chapter 12 says he's rewiring

    Romans 12 chapter mention

  657. your mind. You're going to see life

  658. different. Start thinking God thoughts.

  659. How about setting up something in your

  660. life to where you just naturally desire

  661. things that God desires?

  662. >> Like it's not like you go, "Oh, got to

  663. deny me and go do this."

  664. What about if your default is just to do

  665. things that please God

  666. >> and there's temptation not to do it. And

  667. I can still get caught in that. We all

  668. do. But what if I go from always wanting

  669. what's wrong and having to reach for

  670. what's right to I'm just living in a way

  671. that things have fallen off my life and

  672. I'm living in a default mechanism of

  673. doing what's right, a routine of what's

  674. good. The temptation is still there, but

  675. my default has changed. Would it be okay

  676. if God's word rewired your default

  677. mechanism where all of a sudden no

  678. longer are you negative and heavy and

  679. hard, but you find yourself

  680. complimenting and lifting and joyful and

  681. encouraging? What what if he changed

  682. ladies and gentlemen? That's exactly

  683. what God's word does. The word is

  684. called, you ready for this?

  685. Sanctification.

  686. It's a cleaning out and a putting in. My

  687. desire is aligned with God. Let's keep

  688. on going because the third thing that

  689. the Bible tells us that the word does is

  690. it fights for us.

  691. >> It fights for us. Hebrews chapter 4:12,

  692. the word of God is alive and active,

  693. sharper than any two-edged sword. It

  694. penetrates even to the dividing soul and

  695. spirit, joints and marorrow. It judges

  696. the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

  697. The Bible says that it is a sword in our

  698. lives.

  699. It is a weapon that is fighting for you.

  700. And do you know how it fights for you?

  701. The word of God drives deep down between

  702. soul and spirit.

  703. What does that mean? Soul is when Scott

  704. is full of Scott. My attitude, my pride,

  705. all the stuff that I think I am.

  706. >> Spirit is the part of me that

  707. communicates with God.

  708. And those two are continually at odds in

  709. your life and in my life.

  710. >> Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Me. Jesus.

  711. Me. Jesus. Me. Jesus. Right.

  712. >> Oh, act like you ain't never had that

  713. going on in your life. Some of y'all

  714. doing that right now.

  715. And the Bible says that his word

  716. penetrates and begins to separate

  717. and begins to identify how to fight and

  718. push back. It helps me deal with me. It

  719. helps me identify what's out of order in

  720. my life. It's that internal voice that

  721. is talking back to me. It It helps me to

  722. choose Jesus. It's that alarm that goes

  723. off. Have you ever had that conviction

  724. where you said something you shouldn't

  725. have said and you felt horrible about it

  726. all day long? Isn't that wonderful?

  727. >> No, it is. It's wonderful CUZ YOU DIDN'T

  728. ALWAYS FEEL BAD about saying the wrong

  729. thing. You used to be pretty proud of

  730. yourself. Oh, that was a good comeback.

  731. I cut her, left her bleeding, and I

  732. walked out the room. WE USED TO BRAG

  733. ABOUT THAT STUFF.

  734. Have you ever been in a like a

  735. confrontation and you left and 5 minutes

  736. later you thought of the best comeback?

  737. You just didn't think about it then, but

  738. boy, you just wish you would have,

  739. >> man. Missed an opportunity. No, that was

  740. not an opportunity.

  741. >> Bible says God's word steps in and it

  742. fights.

  743. That's why it's important that we're in

  744. church on Sundays. So God's word can

  745. bring conviction. That's why it's

  746. important that we're in life groups so

  747. that as I hear the word, it brings

  748. conviction and changes and helps me to

  749. see God's way. Reminds me that there's a

  750. higher way for me to live. God's word

  751. fights for us. Ephesians chapter 6 verse

    Ephesians 6:17

  752. 17 literally calls this the sword of the

  753. spirit. And it's the only offensive

  754. weapon you have as a believer.

  755. It's the only thing you can fight with.

  756. When Jesus was being tempted in the

  757. wilderness and the enemy came up to him

  758. and we tempted him three times, here's

  759. what Jesus said. It is written. It is

  760. written. It is written, ladies and

  761. gentlemen. The first words out of your

  762. mouth when when hell hits your life

  763. should be, "It is written."

  764. >> It is written. I'm I'm coming through

  765. all this. It is written, "He will not

  766. leave me nor forsake me. It is written

  767. that he is my the same yesterday, today,

  768. and forever. It is written that if God

  769. be before me, who again can be against

  770. me? It is written, no weapon formed

  771. against me will prosper, and every

  772. tongue that rises against me in

  773. judgment, it shall be condemned. It is

  774. written. We've got to have the word in

  775. our heart that we will not sin against

  776. God.

  777. We need to have the word fighting with

  778. us and for us. Finally,

  779. God's word is a guide.

  780. Psalm chapter 119 verse 105

    Psalms 119:105

  781. says, "Your word is a lamp to guide my

  782. feet and a light for my path." You want

  783. to discover your Bible?

  784. The longest chapter in the Bible is

  785. Psalm 119,

  786. 170ome verses.

  787. The entire chapter is about the Bible.

  788. In fact, you might not know this. I'm

  789. going to give you a little side note for

  790. what it's worth. Again, this is

  791. something for all you. You have to go

  792. and you got to open your Bible to Psalm

  793. 119 and look at this. Every eight

  794. sections, every eight verses is a new

  795. section.

  796. It takes all 22 letters of the Hebrew

  797. alphabet. Alfet gimmel vineet yammed. It

  798. It takes all 22 letters of the Hebrew

  799. alphabet and every eight verses starts

  800. with the next letter.

  801. The first eight start with alf. The

  802. second eight start with bet. It it moves

  803. right on down. And every eighth verse is

  804. speaking of the word of God. The word of

  805. God. The word of God. So that the the

  806. largest chapter of your Bible is all to

  807. reinforce who God's word is and what it

  808. will do in your life. I dare you to read

  809. it this week. Allow it to feed you and

  810. understand what God wants to do. But

  811. God's word is a

  812. it's a light.

  813. It's a it's a lamp. Do you understand?

  814. If there's no light, you're what? You're

  815. doing life in the dark.

  816. >> You're just kind of

  817. I'm I'm going to get married blind.

  818. >> I'm going to just figure this out.

  819. I'm I'm going to start a a business

  820. >> with no sight.

  821. >> Think, oh, I know what I'll do. I'm

  822. going to raise a kid.

  823. I'm going to parent a teenager

  824. with no vision.

  825. Where did they go?

  826. Why

  827. >> would you do that?

  828. >> The Bible says that God's word is that

  829. light.

  830. You can't do life with no guide. You

  831. can't do life walking in the dark. And

  832. culture, they flash lights that blind

  833. you. And culture will blind you and get

  834. you walking in circles. And now you're

  835. stuck in a cycle. and you can't figure

  836. how to get out of that because although

  837. there seem to be flashing lights,

  838. they're not leading you forward. They

  839. just got you walking in circles. No,

  840. only God's word speaks to every issue of

  841. life to show you the way out. It deals

  842. with your spiritual life. It deals with

  843. your personal life and your actions. It

  844. deals with government, society, justice.

  845. It deals with history and future. It

  846. deals with relationships. It deals with

  847. work, career, finances. It deals with

  848. suffering and hardship. It speaks to

  849. every topic and issue you can bring up.

  850. God's word speaks to it and shines light

  851. on how you can navigate it, how you can

  852. get through it, how he is with you, how

  853. to come out successful on the other

  854. side. I know it hurts, but victory is

  855. coming. Weeping endures for the night.

  856. JOY IS COMING. WHY DO I SAY THAT?

  857. Because God's word is the anchor going

  858. TO GET ME THROUGH. WE GOT TO GET A HOLD

  859. OF GOD'S word and champion it in our

  860. life.

  861. Matthew chapter 7 says you got to build

    Matthew 7 chapter mention

  862. your life on the solid rock, the solid

  863. foundation

  864. of God's word. Would you stand to your

  865. feet, please?

  866. To all my young adults in the room

  867. today,

  868. if you're between the ages of 18 and 35,

  869. wave your hand at me. 18 and 35.

  870. Look at that. Look at that.

  871. Dang.

  872. That's why the nursery is so full. I get

  873. it now.

  874. >> Can I help you with something?

  875. Blink three times and you're going to be

  876. 46.

  877. [Music]

  878. >> Where's my 45 to 55 year old, 60 year

  879. olds? Am I telling the truth or what?

  880. Does it go like like like see all those

  881. hands raised? They think they're still

  882. 25. They they don't even know. They

  883. don't even know. That's all of us,

  884. right? I'm I I feel you. It like when

  885. did that happen?

  886. >> When did what?

  887. Start

  888. the legacy. Now,

  889. if God's plan for you is to leave a

  890. legacy, and it only comes by declaring

  891. his word as your only authority and

  892. Jesus as your only savior, establish

  893. that legacy now. Don't wait till you're

  894. in your 40s. Don't wait till you're into

  895. your second marriage. And don't wait

  896. till you're in rehab to decide to try

  897. Jesus.

  898. >> Choose him now

  899. and avoid the hell in life.

  900. Listen, have a conversation with someone

  901. who's got more life than you and ask

  902. them and let them pour back into your

  903. life. Go allin with Jesus now. Build a

  904. legacy of faith for your family and the

  905. generations to come. God's word is the

  906. only hope that we have.

  907. US Naval officer, captain of the of a

  908. ship, USS Lincoln,

  909. sailing in the ocean,

  910. middle of the night,

  911. and he saw a light ahead of him.

  912. He thought, "There's a ship coming

  913. where the United States

  914. radioed ahead.

  915. This is the captain of the USS

  916. Lincoln aircraft carrier.

  917. We are in the same course. I request

  918. that you go 30 degrees south that we do

  919. not have an encounter.

  920. And immediately they radio back. No, you

  921. go 30° south.

  922. Kind of rubbed the captain a little bit

  923. raw.

  924. He got back on the on the This is the

  925. captain of the United States, USS

  926. Lincoln. I am commanding you to veer off

  927. course 30 degrees. We are in the same

  928. path.

  929. Only get it respond back. No, you change

  930. course.

  931. Captain got back on. This is the captain

  932. of the USS

  933. Lincoln. The radio came back. This is

  934. the lighthouse.

  935. [Applause]

  936. >> Meet the lighthouse.

  937. Ladies and gentlemen, this light

  938. may have you change course in some

  939. things when you didn't feel like it, but

  940. it's saving you from a crash that will

  941. sink everything you say you love.

  942. >> We've got to listen to, respond to,

  943. highlight, respect, and celebrate the

  944. light of Christ that comes through his

  945. word. Would you bow your heads in this

  946. room? Father, today thank you for your

  947. word that speaks to all of us. Your word

  948. is everything.

  949. Your word, we live by it. We breathe by

  950. it. We do life by it. We decide by it.

  951. We're corrected by it. We're challenged

  952. by it. We're successful by it. Lord,

  953. thank you that you gave us your word so

  954. that we could know you, encounter you,

  955. understand who you are, to meet Jesus,

  956. to have principles working in our life.

  957. Without your word, this life would not

  958. be livable.

  959. But today, God, we refuse to leave that

  960. book on the shelf. I refuse to live

  961. leave this handful of promises and life

  962. hacks sitting to the side while I

  963. blindly walk about trying to figure life

  964. out. I will do it your way. We declare

  965. in 2026 that we're setting a legacy for

  966. our families. We declare of thou 2026

  967. I'm laying a new foundation for my life.

  968. I will come to your word. I will read

  969. your word. I will discover your word. I

  970. I will highlight your word in my life. I

  971. will change course for your word instead

  972. of trying to change your word to fit my

  973. life. God, your word is truth. Your word

  974. is the way, the truth, and the life. So

  975. today, God, I pray that we would begin

  976. to embrace and move towards you in a

  977. whole different way. Arrest us, awaken

  978. us, convict us, draw us by your word.

  979. Speak to us, correct us, elevate,

  980. encourage, rewire us. I pray nourish us,

  981. feed us, excite us, bring a hope and a

  982. joy and that love that comes through

  983. knowing you by your word. God, bring all

  984. that alive in us. I pray as we embrace

  985. the manual that shows us every option we

  986. have for living this life successfully

  987. because of what Jesus did for us. I pray

  988. this over my friends, over families,

  989. over parents, over singles, over young

  990. families, over business owners today

  991. that God, we will set our eyes and our

  992. mind on you and let you decide the

  993. course of our life. In Jesus name we

  994. declare this. Amen. Amen. If you receive

  995. that today, put those hands together.
