  1. Welcome to Free Life Chapel, where we

  2. [music] help you discover and live the

  3. free life in Christ. My name is Cotti,

  4. and I'm so [music] glad that you decided

  5. to tune in with us today. If you ever

  6. find yourself in the Central Florida

  7. area, [music] come visit us. We want to

  8. see you face to face. But until then,

  9. feel free to visit our [music] website,

  10. freelifechapel.org, to find out more

  11. about what's happening at your church.

  12. There's an amazing message in store just

  13. for you. I hope you're encouraged.

  14. >> We are in a series right now called We

  15. the Church. Everybody say, "We the

  16. church." We the church.

  17. >> We the church.

  18. >> When the constitution was written, uh

  19. the constitution, it wasn't just a set

  20. of rules that our nation was founded on,

  21. right? It said we the people. It it

  22. didn't just create some rules. It

  23. created and shaped a way of life. The

  24. constitution, it shaped a way of

  25. thinking and a way for people for us to

  26. engage one another or to to treat one

  27. another. a way of life for us as

  28. Americans. It formed thought. It formed

  29. life. And in the same exact way,

  30. scripture, the Bible, doesn't just tell

  31. you and I what to believe. It invites us

  32. into an entire different way of living.

  33. I don't know about you, but the the more

  34. I read my Bible, the more I realize God

  35. has a completely different way of doing

  36. life than what I do.

  37. >> God has a different way of me treating

  38. people than what I do. God has a

  39. different idea. His definition of

  40. patience is different than mine.

  41. >> His definition of forgiveness is

  42. different than mine.

  43. >> But also his joy and his strength is

  44. completely different than what I would

  45. be able to grab myself. But the Bible,

  46. it it shapes how you and I live. And as

  47. you read the Bible, especially in the

  48. Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John,

  49. and you you read the teachings of Jesus,

  50. Jesus did not just say, "Believe the

  51. right things about me."

  52. Important. But he didn't just say that.

  53. Here's what he told his disciples.

  54. Follow me.

  55. The thought process, yes, it's

  56. important, but follow me. Let's put some

  57. action behind what you say and what you

  58. claim. It's not just a statement. Jesus

  59. gave us a lifestyle invitation to follow

  60. after him. Because here's the tension

  61. that I think you and I live in.

  62. I can claim Jesus, but I can still live

  63. at a pace that he never wanted me to

  64. live at. There's a potential for me to

  65. claim Jesus, but I can live at a speed.

  66. I can live in a way of doing things. I

  67. could live in a lifestyle that was

  68. completely different than how Jesus

  69. lived his life. The Bible says this.

  70. Luke chapter 6. If you got your Bible,

    Luke 6 chapter mention

  71. get your Bible out. Luke 6 verse 46.

    Luke 6:46

  72. Here's what here's what the Bible says.

  73. Jesus talking here. He says this. Why do

  74. you call me Lord, Lord, and not do what

  75. I tell you?

  76. You can claim me. YOU CALL ME LORD,

  77. LORD. But why aren't you doing what I

  78. said to do? Why aren't you following me?

  79. You're saying the right things? You

  80. might have the right belief that I am

  81. God, BUT MAN, THAT'S THE STARTING POINT,

  82. BUT THAT'S NOT the end point. There's

  83. some motion

  84. that you're supposed to be having. Why

  85. do you call me Lord, Lord, but you do

  86. not do what I'm telling you to do? The

  87. reality is this. I can believe in Jesus

  88. and still structure my life in a way

  89. that pulls me away from him.

  90. >> That ever happened to you before?

  91. >> I love Jesus,

  92. but life was just lifing and and and it

  93. wasn't necessarily the bad things. It it

  94. was the right opportunity, the the

  95. promotion that I had been praying for,

  96. THE THE THE OPPORTUNITY THAT I WAS

  97. REALLY HOPING that I would get. And I've

  98. just noticed that in life, I've started

  99. drifting away from Jesus. Not because

  100. I'm mad at him, but life just has a way

  101. of pulling me away if I'm not

  102. intentional with Jesus. Because the

  103. reality is you and I, we can't

  104. experience the life of Jesus without

  105. learning the lifestyle of Jesus.

  106. >> That's why I love reading the Bible. I

  107. don't want to just know what to think. I

  108. want to see how he moved.

  109. >> Got a three-year-old and a 2-year-old.

  110. Son's about to be four. two weeks. He's

  111. going to be four. It's crazy. Y'all are

  112. getting old, not me. And and

  113. with my son getting older, I I've heard

  114. this phrase growing up, more gets caught

  115. than gets taught. It's not just what you

  116. say, but they're going to watch your

  117. movements. They're going to watch how

  118. you handle situations. They're going to

  119. watch how you respond or how you don't

  120. respond. They're going to watch how how

  121. I respond to my wife. They're going to

  122. watch how I respond to my parents.

  123. They're going to watch how I respond to

  124. authority and that's going to set their

  125. baseline for what they're going to do.

  126. More gets caught than gets taught. I'm

  127. learning that with my kids. And it's the

  128. same thing with you and me. You and I,

  129. we catch on to a lot of things. We can

  130. get taught some things, but we're able

  131. to catch a lot of things. And when you

  132. and I, we read our Bible, when we read

  133. the story of Jesus, how he moved, how he

  134. operated, how he was intentional in how

  135. he treated people, how he lived his

  136. lifestyle,

  137. there's a lot that you and I will be

  138. able to catch that is going to help you

  139. and I live the life that Jesus wants you

  140. and I to be able to live. There's

  141. example in Luke chapter 10. Luke chapter

Luke 10 chapter mention Luke 10 chapter mention

  142. 10, um there's this story about Jesus

  143. going to Mary and Martha's house, right?

  144. Two two of his friends. And and here's

  145. what happens. He he goes there. He he's

  146. with his disciples. He he goes there to

  147. Mary and Martha's house and he's hanging

  148. out with them. And uh Mary and Martha or

  149. Mary is sitting there alongside of

  150. Jesus. She's hanging out with him. She's

  151. talking with him. They're talking about

  152. how the Cowboys are going to win next

  153. year's Super Bowl. Like they're they're

  154. they're

  155. They're dreaming.

  156. >> They're going through. They're doing all

  157. the things. And And then Martha,

  158. Martha, she over there whipping it up in

  159. the kitchen. She's over here. Somebody

  160. grabs a tissue. She makes sure she goes

  161. and she refills the tissue. She's going

  162. to make sure that the candles lit in the

  163. bathroom.

  164. >> Thank God for candles lit in bathrooms.

  165. They're going She's She's working it.

  166. She's serving to her fullest capacity.

  167. The Bible says that Martha, she's

  168. serving Jesus,

  169. but then she starts to feel a little uh

  170. and she goes to Jesus and says, "JESUS,

  171. I'M OVER HERE serving you. I'm over here

  172. cooking things and cleaning things and

  173. doing this and DOING THAT." AND MY

  174. SISTER JUST SITTING ON THE COUCH. Sounds

  175. like my wife.

  176. My wife's saying, "Boy, I'm over here

  177. doing the laundry. I'm over here doing

  178. this and you just sitting on the couch.

  179. Baby, I'm praying.

  180. Interrupt my time with Jesus."

  181. That's a lie. Don't strike me. That's a

  182. lie.

  183. Martha so aggravated

  184. keeping score. Trying to say, "Jesus,

  185. I'm over here doing all this. Why are

  186. you spending all your time with her? See

  187. me. What? Look at me. Look at all the

  188. things that I'M DOING, GETTING TIRED and

  189. exhausted about what's happening. And

  190. Jesus, he does NOT TELL MARY TO GET UP

  191. AND TO GO SERVE. HE DOESN'T TELL MARY

  192. GET UP AND GO HELP OUT YOUR SISTER. He

  193. doesn't TELL MARY, GET UP AND GO do the

  194. things that your sister needs to get

  195. done later. He does not say that. Here's

  196. what the Bible actually says in Luke

  197. 10:es 41-42. The Bible says this, "But

  198. the Lord answered her, Martha, Martha,

  199. you are anxious and troubled about many

  200. things, but one thing is necessary. Mary

  201. has chosen the good portion which will

  202. not be taken away from her."

  203. Jesus tells Martha, "Bro, relax. We out.

  204. Calm down."

  205. getting so anxious and you're getting so

  206. WORKED UP. YOUR HEART WAS IN THE WRONG

  207. PLACE. YOU'RE DOING IT FROM THE RIGHT

  208. PLACE OF WANTING TO SERVE ME, BUT YOUR

  209. DESIRE TO do

  210. is taking away the opportunity that you

  211. have to sit alongside of me. Martha

  212. thought the reward was going to be

  213. serving and doing and running and

  214. jumping. When Mary said, "Jesus is in my

  215. house.

  216. There's going to be more dirty laundry

  217. tomorrow. I can go do it then. I She

  218. wanted to sit at the feet of Jesus. And

  219. Jesus said, "Mary, what Mary said to do

  220. is what needs to happen. Martha, YOU'RE

  221. DISTRACTED.

  222. DISTRACTED EVEN BY THE GOOD things that

  223. you don't even remember the reason why

  224. you're doing them." That Martha, yes,

  225. you're serving, but the whole point

  226. you're serving was to be in relationship

  227. with me. Was because I was at your

  228. house. So, how about you stop worrying

  229. about all that stuff and build your

  230. relationship with me?

  231. >> I don't know about you, but there's been

  232. times in my life where I've got so busy

  233. doing things for God that I stopped

  234. relating with God. I got so busy making

  235. sure I marked off I'm reading this and

  236. I'm praying and I'm doing this and I'm

  237. doing this and I was doing it so much

  238. more out of a chore than even a

  239. discipline. I was treating reading my

  240. Bible as the end and not reading my

  241. Bible as a means to an end. My Bible is

  242. my way of getting closer to Jesus, but

  243. Jesus is what I need. Praying is my way

  244. of communicating with my father, but

  245. it's who I'm praying to that is even

  246. more important than the words that it is

  247. that I'm saying. Coming to church is

  248. great and I love being here, but I don't

  249. want to get so stale in coming to church

  250. that it's only just a part of my

  251. routine. No, I want it to be every week

  252. that it's like hooking a jumper cable up

  253. to my heart. I get a recharge. I get a

  254. rebirth. Why? Because I'm connected to

  255. Jesus. Not to a routine, not to a task,

  256. but to Jesus.

  257. >> Before you and I think, oh, that's just

  258. a Mary and Martha thing.

  259. Think the same exact thing of you and I

  260. being distracted happens to us as well.

  261. >> I love my life. I love my wife. I love

  262. my kids. I love the opportunities that I

  263. get to do. But I'm learning something

  264. about me. Can I be vulnerable for a

  265. second? Learning something about me.

  266. I don't drift away from God because I

  267. stop believing in him. I start drifting

  268. away from God because life gets really

  269. loud and really fast and I get

  270. distracted away from him.

  271. I'm not mad at God, but there's just the

  272. speed of the meetings and everything's

  273. important and everything is urgent and

  274. everything needs to be done yesterday

  275. and and and and we're I'm so on the

  276. schedule and so on the calendar and so

  277. planning for what's going to happen in

  278. the future that I'm not honoring the

  279. gift of today, which is why it's called

  280. the present.

  281. JUST RUN PAST THE opportunities that are

  282. in front of me. I don't I don't get away

  283. from God be because always because of

  284. rebellion although I have it in me just

  285. like you do in you.

  286. >> Uhhuh.

  287. >> I drift sometimes just because of the

  288. responsibility

  289. or because of her rebellion but

  290. [laughter]

  291. it's because of me mommy. It's because

  292. of me.

  293. I'm just GIF just because of my

  294. rebellion. A lot of times it's because

  295. of the the increased responsibility that

  296. I have. I'm not mad at him. I just have

  297. so much being demanded of me. And isn't

  298. it funny how reading my Bible or praying

  299. or being at church is one of the first

  300. things that starts to go when life gets

  301. crazy and busy?

  302. >> Like I can't move anything else, but

  303. those

  304. I am the church and so I can do it at

  305. home.

  306. >> I I can pray while I'm driving. God God

  307. He He knows my heart and I can and he

  308. does, but that doesn't mean I abuse it.

  309. >> There's times where I need to be focused

  310. in on him. But Corey Tinboom, she she

  311. she had a quote that says this, "If the

  312. enemy cannot get you to sin,

  313. he's going to get you busy."

  314. >> Too much work around the house to come

  315. to church. I only have two days of my

  316. weekends. I need to make sure I get

  317. things in. travel ball schedule starts

  318. getting crazy. If he can't get me to

  319. sin, sees your devotion, sees your

  320. heart, sees your love, he's going to

  321. work on getting you busy because he

  322. doesn't need you to disbelieve in God.

  323. He just needs you to get distracted from

  324. God,

  325. >> lose your focus, lose your mentality of

  326. him. And by when I lose my focus of him,

  327. I start drifting away. I don't stop

  328. praying because I don't care. I stopped

  329. I have stopped praying because

  330. everything else has felt urgent. The

  331. danger is not that I stop loving Jesus.

  332. The danger is that I stop paying

  333. attention to him. And this is why it's

  334. so important that we don't just claim

  335. Jesus, but we live a lifestyle of Jesus.

  336. Because I don't know if you've noticed,

  337. but never in the Bible did it say that

  338. Jesus was in a hurry.

  339. >> It never says that Jesus ran anywhere.

  340. To the contrary, the woman with the

  341. issue of blood was able to catch up to

  342. Jesus in a crowd of people and was able

  343. to touch the hem of his garment and feel

  344. that he has been healed. He was in such

  345. a state of control and ease that he was

  346. aware that somebody touched him and

  347. said, "Stop. Power has left from me. Who

  348. touched me?" You can't do that if you're

  349. in a hurry.

  350. >> CAN'T DO THAT. HOW ABOUT TREATING people

  351. nicely or kindly or with the love of

  352. Jesus when you're in a hurry? How how

  353. have you been when you're in a hurry at

  354. Walmart?

  355. >> Confession.

  356. Boy, I'll go to McDonald's

  357. and I'll be SITTING IN THE DRIVE-THRU

  358. LINE and my son says, "Daddy, this is

  359. taking a long time." I know, buddy. THEY

  360. OUGHT TO JUST BE ABLE TO PUT IN THE

  361. MICROWAVE FOR 30 SECONDS AND POP IT BACK

  362. OUT. LIKE, THIS OUGHT TO BE QUICK. I'LL

  363. GET so impatient. And I I hate to say

  364. it, but there's times where I even take

  365. it out on the person uh that's that I'm

  366. paying at the cash register or the

  367. person giving my food. And I don't say

  368. the wrong things. I just give a cold

  369. shoulder.

  370. Thanks. And just take it and grip it

  371. quick. My immaturity. I need help living

  372. the lifestyle of Jesus. None of US HAVE

  373. THIS DOWNPACKED. I'VE CLAIMED JESUS, BUT

  374. I STILL need work living his lifestyle

  375. because you do things God's way. You get

  376. God's results. THE BIBLE SAYS THAT EVEN

  377. THE enemies know who Jesus is. Even the

  378. demons, they know who he is. They know

  379. his name, but they don't follow his

  380. ways. We're known as a different group

  381. of people as we continue to follow the

  382. lifestyle of people. That's why the

  383. Bible says the people will know you.

  384. They'll judge you by your fruit,

  385. >> by what you produce from following after

  386. me. This lifestyle of Jesus is so

  387. important. But there's a word picture

  388. there. There there there's an analogy

  389. that I want to use that really helped to

  390. me to grasp this a little bit. This idea

  391. of a trellis. A trellis is is a

  392. structure that holds up a plant.

  393. A a trellis, it does not make the plant

  394. grow. It is it's the metal bars that

  395. that are coming up. It does not make the

  396. plant grow. It does not produce any

  397. fruit,

  398. but it does give the plant something to

  399. grow on. I'll tell you, especially uh in

  400. vineyards and orchards, they they'll

  401. have these trelluses out. And the

  402. importance is if you have a plant that

  403. is more like a vine, if it doesn't have

  404. a trellis, it's going to stay on the

  405. ground. If it stays on the ground, not

  406. all of the vines are going to get sun.

  407. Some of them might get stepped on. Uh

  408. the fruit it won't last long. It can't

  409. get to the full capacity because it

  410. doesn't have any capacity to grow cuz

  411. it's already on the ground. But when you

  412. elevate it, you protect it. It gives it

  413. the right nutrients. It it keeps it safe

  414. and it gives it a strength that when the

  415. fruit grow, the branches won't break.

  416. >> There's a strength that happens from the

  417. structure. The structure itself does not

  418. produce the fruit, but the structure

  419. helps to handle and maintain the fruit.

  420. Spiritually, a trellis is how you and I

  421. begin to arrange our life. Christian

  422. word might say are spiritual

  423. disciplines.

  424. How I discipline my life in order to

  425. focus in on God where I'm not just

  426. drifting my ways. If I feel like

  427. praying, I will. If I feel like reading

  428. my Bible, I will. If I feel like sitting

  429. in a moment of silence with worship

  430. music on just to hear what God says to

  431. me, not me asking him for something, but

  432. hearing what he's asking of me, I'll do

  433. that when I feel like it or only when

  434. it's corporate. No, the spiritual

  435. discipline is what I do in my own

  436. private time. It it's my rhythms, it's

  437. my habits, and it's my schedule. And if

  438. I don't build a structure around what

  439. matters most, everything else will begin

  440. to crowd it out.

  441. >> Right. Right.

  442. >> It's why you and I, we make time for

  443. what we want to do.

  444. >> Might say like, "Hey, let me know when

  445. you find time to go to lunch."

  446. >> When you find that tree, please let me

  447. know. I'm going to buy some stocking. I

  448. I YOU DON'T FIND TIME. YOU AND I, we

  449. made time for what's important to us in

  450. life. For what we see is valuable, for

  451. what we see is engaging. I need to

  452. structure my life. The lifestyle of

  453. Jesus was one that was structured time

  454. for God. It's not an option. It's on a

  455. counter. There's a time. There's a date.

  456. There's an appointment. I will not miss

  457. this appointment. I can't be late for

  458. this appointment. And it's not religion,

  459. >> right?

  460. >> But it's him knowing this is the thing

  461. that sustains me. So, if I lose out on

  462. this, I won't be able to handle that. If

  463. I don't have the structure in my

  464. relationship with Jesus, then I won't be

  465. able to handle the fruit that comes from

  466. Jesus. The fruit without the structure

  467. could kill me.

  468. >> So good.

  469. >> If God,

  470. Pastor Scott and Pastor Cindy, they they

  471. said this about me. They say it about

  472. kids that a lot.

  473. They said, "It was not good for Caleb to

  474. know how much they loved me. It wasn't

  475. good for me to know how much my parents

  476. loved me.

  477. Because if I knew how much they loved

  478. me, there's a chance that it I I could

  479. break. I could take advantage of it. I I

  480. might not steward it well.

  481. There's been times where I've prayed and

  482. I've asked prayers to God. God blessed

  483. me with this. And the reality is he

  484. loved me so much that he did not give it

  485. to me because had he gave it to me, it

  486. would have been the thing that broke me.

  487. It could have been the thing that ended

  488. my relationship with him. It could be

  489. the thing that would have ended my

  490. marriage. AND I DIDN'T KNOW. I don't

  491. know. [applause]

  492. But that's why WHEN WE SING SONGS, THEY

  493. SAY THAT HIS TIMING IS PERFECT. HE HAS a

  494. a divine start and a divine stop. A

  495. divine yes and a divine no. But having

  496. this structure, this trellis in our life

  497. helps me helps me in my discipline to

  498. say, "God, whatever it is that you're

  499. wanting to do in my life, I'm doing the

  500. best that I can to structure my life to

  501. keep you the focus of my life." There's

  502. been times I want the fruit of Jesus,

  503. but my life is not set up to really

  504. support that type of growth. Jesus used

  505. me. Are you sure,

  506. >> Jesus? I'm a vessel. Are you really?

  507. >> Be careful what we pray. He might

  508. believe us.

  509. >> And if I don't have the structure set up

  510. to say no to certain things, yes to

  511. other things, a discipline in my life,

  512. then that could be a thing that breaks

  513. me. Here's another word picture that I

  514. love. Jesus said this in Matthew 11 29.

  515. I want you to read this first part with

  516. me here. Here's what it says. Take my

  517. yoke upon you and learn from me for I am

  518. gentle and lowly in heart and you will

  519. find rest for your souls. The context of

  520. this verse is Jesus saying this. Come to

  521. me all of you who are labored and heavy

  522. laden and I will give you rest. You know

  523. what heavy heavy laden one one way that

  524. the rabbis will describe that as? If

  525. you're exhausted from religion,

  526. if you're just tired of going through

  527. the motion, if you're tired from the

  528. legalistic way of do this and don't do

  529. this and and all of this to where you

  530. need this relationship to revive you, to

  531. refresh you, to show you that you're not

  532. doing this out of your own power. You're

  533. doing this because of the grace and the

  534. mercy that I have given you. That you're

  535. not good enough to do this on your own.

  536. The only reason why you could even think

  537. about this is because of what I have

  538. done for you.

  539. >> So idea of the yolk though, it's

  540. interesting. I don't know how many of

  541. you use a yolk. Not an egg yolk, but a

  542. yolk. And here's what they would do in

  543. biblical days. They they would take some

  544. oxen and they would yolk them together

  545. for them to be able to do some farm

  546. work. Now, when when they would yolk

  547. together, here's an interesting caveat.

  548. A lot of times, this is how they would

  549. also train a young ox.

  550. They would get a mature ox,

  551. one that knows the pace, knows the

  552. direction, knows how to carry the

  553. workload, has been proven to be able to

  554. handle it. They'll yoke him to a younger

  555. ox.

  556. Not for the YOUNGER ONE TO TAKE CHARGE,

  557. but for that older one, the mature one

  558. to say, "Hey buddy, here's the pace.

  559. You're going to wear yourself out in the

  560. first hour. We got eight hours of work

  561. today. I need you to calm down a little

  562. bit, buddy. Hey, here here's the

  563. direction. I know it looks easier to go

  564. that way, but you don't know the hole

  565. that's in the ground there that will

  566. completely put you out. Just follow

  567. after me. This older ox, they're often

  568. the ones that are carrying the majority

  569. of the weight because they're the front

  570. driver that is going in. What if Jesus

  571. is saying here, "Hey, yoke up to me, you

  572. immature ox. You got all these IDEAS AND

  573. YOU GOT ALL THIS VIGOR AND YOU GOT ALL

  574. THESE THINGS THAT YOU WANT TO DO, but I

  575. need you to do it. Know my pace. Learn

  576. my direction. Let me be the one that

  577. leads it. Let me be the one that tells

  578. you where to go. Let me be the one that

  579. is carrying the majority of the way. Cuz

  580. this weight, it would kill you. It would

  581. stop you. You wouldn't be able to handle

  582. it. But when you yoke up with me, my

  583. yoke is easy and my burden is light.

  584. You're not going to be carrying as MUCH

  585. CUZ I'M RIGHT there with you. YOU'RE NOT

  586. DOING IT BY YOURSELF. YOU'RE DOING IT

  587. ALONGSIDE of me.

  588. >> WHAT JESUS DID NOT say here was try

  589. harder.

  590. >> Right.

  591. >> Self-help.

  592. >> Yeah.

  593. >> Motivation,

  594. discipline over motivation.

  595. He cuz if it's something that you and I

  596. could do, we would have done it already

  597. for ourselves.

  598. >> What he is saying is walk with me. Don't

  599. do life alone.

  600. So this trellis

  601. is how I set up my life. The structure,

  602. this yoke is who I'm walking with. The

  603. the the trellis, IT KEEPS MY LIFE FROM

  604. COLLAPSING. And the yoke reminds me that

  605. I'm not carrying it all by myself. The

  606. see because here's the here's the thing.

  607. Structure without Jesus, the

  608. relationship with Jesus is legalism.

  609. It's religion.

  610. But Jesus without structure can become

  611. exhausting.

  612. >> Yeah.

  613. >> Because now I have a yo-yo relationship.

  614. I have a roller coaster relationship

  615. where I have high highs and then I have

  616. low lows. I have high I'm in church and

  617. then I'm out of church. I feel like

  618. praying and then I don't feel like

  619. praying. I'm I'm high and then I'm low.

  620. I'm high and then I'm low. And we get

  621. exhausted saying this Jesus thing, it

  622. must not work cuz I'm just too tired

  623. from it.

  624. Oh, it does work when we have the

  625. lifestyle of Jesus. When we do things

  626. God's way, we're able to get God's

  627. results.

  628. But the hurry, the busy, the

  629. distractions that we have in life, they

  630. begin to mess with both our structure of

  631. living our life in a way that builds our

  632. life towards him as well as our

  633. relationship with him. Hurry, busy. It

  634. gets in the way of the both of those

  635. because when I'm rushed, I stop

  636. protecting the structure.

  637. >> Yeah.

  638. >> I wake up late. So, what do I not do? Do

  639. I not eat breakfast? Do I not brush my

  640. teeth? Or do I not read my Bible?

  641. >> It's been a long day at work. I'm ready

  642. to get to bed because I have a long day

  643. tomorrow. So, do I shower and wash my

  644. hair or do I read my Bible? And we make

  645. either or statements when it comes to

  646. this, forgetting the value of what this

  647. is. When it comes to prayer, we treat

  648. prayer,

  649. excuse me, I have treated prayer, I'm

  650. not project this on you. I have treated

  651. prayer as such a defensive mood from a

  652. Christian.

  653. >> Yeah.

  654. >> That I pray after something has happened

  655. to me.

  656. >> Yeah. And so my prayer is me catching

  657. God just help me keep everything

  658. together.

  659. >> WHEN THAT'S THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF HOW

  660. JESUS SAW IT. JESUS BAPTIZED GOT

  661. AFFIRMED BY GOD. THIS IS MY SON IN WHOM

  662. I'M WELL PLEASED. The Bible says

  663. immediately the spirit led him into the

  664. wilderness fashioned for 40 days and 40

  665. nights. I have preached that then the

  666. enemy came and whenever he tempted him.

  667. Oh, he's smart. He knew when to tempt

  668. him cuz God or Jesus was hungry. He was

  669. thirsty. He was weak. He wasn't at a

  670. good time. That was the best time for

  671. the enemy to tempt him. And that is

  672. wrong.

  673. Because fasting only gets you closer to

  674. God, not further. Fasting is only going

  675. to get you stronger. It's only going to

  676. help you see your identity even more.

  677. It's only going to help you bow up your

  678. chest a little bit more. So when the

  679. enemy CAME

  680. TO TALK TO GOD OR TO JESUS TO TEMPT him

  681. those three times and Jesus said it is

  682. written actually it is written quoting

  683. the book of Deuteronomy three different

  684. times he wasn't doing it passively he

  685. wasn't doing it on the ropes saying oh

  686. would you just please stop it wasn't

  687. deflective he was on the offense he was

  688. completely leaning in never stronger

  689. before because of his time of fasting

  690. and praying praying with God. He

  691. structured time to get away. And if

  692. Jesus needs a structured life and Jesus

  693. has a lifestyle that has these times put

  694. in where he got up early in the morning

  695. and went away from his disciples so that

  696. he could pray,

  697. >> right?

  698. >> That he he sent people away so that he

  699. could go. He didn't do he didn't have

  700. this life lifestyle and then go pray and

  701. then go do things. BUT IT WAS OUT OF HIS

  702. PRAYER. IT WAS OUT OF HIS CONNECTION

  703. with God that then fruit became to come

  704. out. This isn't what we do in order to

  705. catch the things that happen to us in

  706. life. That doesn't match the scripture

  707. that says you're more than a conqueror.

  708. >> That'll contradict. But when I realize

  709. what God's word is inside of my life,

  710. when I realize what happens for me, to

  711. me, in my mind, in my family, whenever I

  712. prioritize my time for God, when I don't

  713. just treat him like another person, I

  714. treat him like the person. when I don't

  715. just treat him like a savior. I also

  716. treat him as Lord where he was more than

  717. just a one-time prayer of fire

  718. insurance, but he's also the one now who

  719. shows me the way to live

  720. >> this thing of life. When I yoke my life

  721. to him, I'm able to live to the best of

  722. my ability. this lifestyle of Jesus

  723. which truly is life in life more

  724. abundant what Jesus said he wanted Jesus

  725. he wasn't lazy he was purposeful

  726. and for you and I let's be purposeful

  727. with our lifestyle this year when it

  728. comes to how we prioritize Jesus

  729. everybody stand up to your feet stand up

  730. to your feet I want to close here start

  731. closing here's

  732. the encouragement that I want to give

  733. you today.

  734. I really want you to hear this.

  735. Jesus is not asking you to overhaul your

  736. whole entire life. He's not asking you

  737. TO BYPASS ALL THESE GEARS, DROP IT in

  738. the low, and just take off running.

  739. That's not what he's asking of you.

  740. Rather, I would say this. He's inviting

  741. you to slow down.

  742. He He He's inviting you to prioritize

  743. him more. Restructure things a little

  744. bit.

  745. >> He He He's inviting you to walk a little

  746. bit closer to him. The Bible says,

  747. "Taste and see that the Lord is good."

  748. >> I have to be close enough to taste it.

  749. Caleb, are you close enough to see that

  750. my pace is the best pace for life? Are

  751. you close enough to see that the peace

  752. that I can give you won't just impact

  753. you, but it's going to show up by the

  754. patience that you have for your kids and

  755. by the way that you do not talk to your

  756. wife and the way that you do treat

  757. strangers? Yes. But also the way that

  758. you do treat the people closest to you

  759. cuz usually we have more patience for

  760. strangers than we do people that we

  761. know.

  762. >> Jesus says, "I don't I don't want to

  763. help you just look good. If that

  764. happens, great. I want you to be good

  765. from the inside out.

  766. >> Yeah.

  767. >> That when you get close to me, people

  768. might not recognize the change, but I

  769. do, homie. And I see how your heart is

  770. changing. [music] I see how you're

  771. starting to focus in on me. You haven't

  772. always been reading your You haven't

  773. always felt the conviction of, man, I

  774. haven't prayed in a little bit. I see

  775. that and I'm proud of you. Let's lean

  776. in. G Give give me some time. Let's

  777. pray, God. And 30 SECONDS. AFTER 30

  778. SECONDS, I REALLY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING

  779. ELSE. That's fine. 30 seconds. Give me

  780. what you got cuz I'm going to challenge

  781. you. And as you get to know me, you're

  782. going to see more and more things that

  783. you can thank me for. Your awareness of

  784. me is going to increase in your life.

  785. You're going to start see it starts with

  786. the verse of the day, but then you're

  787. going to start seeing, I need a little

  788. bit more of this cuz I read that verse

  789. today and shut your mouth. I actually

  790. told somebody about that verse AND THAT

  791. ACTUALLY APPLIED TO MY LIFE. WELL, what

  792. happens when I start reading a little

  793. bit more than just the verse? Because

  794. every single one of us, say that with

  795. me, every single one of us has another

  796. step

  797. >> that we can take.

  798. >> So good.

  799. >> This is why we're doing the 21 days of

  800. advance.

  801. It's not [music] something just to get

  802. busy. That's right.

  803. >> It's not something just to redo your

  804. schedule to say for marketing that we

  805. did something. Forget all that. This is

  806. for you. This is for me

  807. >> right [music]

  808. >> to de restructure.

  809. Slow down. THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK

  810. ABOUT. THINK ABOUT WHAT you put into

  811. your EARS AND LET AFFECT your soul

  812. >> and walk a little bit closer to Jesus.

  813. Truly believing

  814. that I'm able to live a free life

  815. through Jesus because of what he did for

  816. me. But the more I follow after Jesus,

  817. the more I'm going to be able to have a

  818. lifestyle of Jesus. And that's what

  819. we're talking about today. This year,

  820. we're not just claiming Jesus. We're

  821. going to walk out and live out a

  822. lifestyle of Jesus. Because here's what

  823. the Bible says in First John 2:6.

    1 John 2:6

  824. Those who say they live in God should

  825. live their lives as Jesus did.

  826. You're not going to be perfect, so go

  827. ahead and throw away the scorecard.

  828. If the goal is for you to live with only

  829. the structure and you forget about the

  830. grace and the mercy that comes from the

  831. relationship with Jesus, you're going to

  832. quit before the 3 weeks is up.

  833. >> So, please don't do that to yourself.

  834. Nobody on earth other than Jesus while

  835. he was here can ever take on that load

  836. or handle that smoke. None of us can do

  837. that. But it doesn't mean that we don't

  838. shoot for the bar that Jesus had there.

  839. >> Father God, we love you so much. Beyond

  840. grateful

  841. that you give us an opportunity to build

  842. up a structured lifestyle that goes

  843. after you, but that you don't just tell

  844. us what to do, but God, you gave us

  845. Jesus,

  846. fully fully God, but fully man. And in

  847. his humanity, seeing what he did, how he

  848. structured in prayer, how he structured

  849. in reading your word, how he structured

  850. in time of silence and solitude to not

  851. just tell you things through his prayer,

  852. but hear from you as well. How he

  853. treated people, how he set up his time

  854. and his schedule in order to not run

  855. past things, run past people, but he

  856. lived a purposeful life, not a hurried

  857. life. God, would you help us please live

  858. the lifestyle of Jesus? that as we read

  859. your word this year, God, that we're

  860. able to see some different insights as

  861. to how did Jesus live his life, then

  862. maybe that's how we need to live ours.

  863. Help us be able to apply this word to

  864. our lives. That it's not just a theory

  865. that we can speak about. It's not just

  866. something that I know how to quote, but

  867. God, help me, help us live out this

  868. word. And as we do that, we know we're

  869. going to do it imperfectly. We know

  870. we're going to drop the ball. We know

  871. we're not going to live up to Jesus's

  872. expectations.

  873. But Jesus, you gave us this grace and

  874. mercy. And so God, I pray that as we

  875. continue in this year, that we do so

  876. with the tip of the spear being the

  877. grace, mercy, and forgiveness that Jesus

  878. gave us as he died on the cross. And

  879. then continuing to build up our

  880. structure to honor you to the best of

  881. our abilities to so that we know that

  882. you're not just a part of our life, you

  883. are the primary focus of our life. It's

  884. in Jesus name we pray. Amen. Amen. Amen.

  885. [music]

  887. you. For more encouraging messages, feel
