  1. Hebrews chapter 1 is where you can be waiting, we'll get to it

    Hebrews 1 chapter mention

  2. in a couple of minutes. So we are doing our series on

  3. the Apostles Creed and we've talked a little bit about the

  4. Apostles Creed and we've said what it is and what it isn't.

  5. The Apostles Creed is not the Bible.

  6. The Apostles Creed though is a tool that was used to help teach

  7. the Bible. Just like if you were to teach

  8. somebody the Bible, you would use your own words.

  9. You would try and communicate it.

  10. And you're in your own way, the Apostles Creed does that, but

  11. it's something the church leadership came together on not

  12. not too long after Christ it ascended a couple hundred years

  13. and the churches use the Apostles Creed Lead in Mass for

  14. at least fifteen hundred years to clarify Doctrine.

  15. To say this is what we believe you can't, you can't remove.

  16. This is are irreducible Parts. When it comes to Christianity.

  17. Could there be more? Could we have other preferences?

  18. Could we have other interpretations on other things?

  19. Sure, there's a lot of opportunity.

  20. There is a lot of freedom there, but these are irreducible cores.

  21. You can't pull one thing out of the Apostles Creed and go.

  22. Yeah, that's still intact everything here matters.

  23. Everything here is important and this teaches us basic Christian

  24. doctrine. So we can know What do I

  25. believe? What?

  26. I believe in Jesus. What do you mean by that?

  27. Well, we clarified in the Apostles Creed oh, I believe in

  28. God. Well, what do you mean by that?

  29. The devil believes in God? So how do we clarify this?

  30. How do we get more specific to actually say what is the

  31. difference between knowing something?

  32. I know there's a god, well, everybody does ultimately, but

  33. do you believe in him? Because if you know, there's a

  34. God, that means one thing. But if you believe in him, that

  35. totally changes the way that you live.

  36. I told you before. I I know people who say that

  37. they know that there's a God and yet they don't believe in him,

  38. they're not following him. They won't worship him.

  39. They. Yeah.

  40. I know, I know, I know, I know, they know a lot of things and we

  41. said we all know how we ought to eat.

  42. We ought to work out, I know that I should do those things

  43. but I don't have enough belief in some of these areas that it

  44. leads me to conviction but the Apostles Creed gives us Clarity

  45. and Doctrine. It brings us Unity.

  46. So we can celebrate with the whole body of Christ and say,

  47. hey, we are Christians and it means something to be a

  48. Christian, and this is what it means, what we did.

  49. Were on this. Well, that's okay.

  50. We got room for that. We've got freedom for that and

  51. the scripture is make room for our differences and yet we don't

  52. want to get away from this irreducible core.

  53. So the Apostles Creed is a powerful tool that we're walking

  54. through step-by-step line by line.

  55. I'm going to read it to you now and then we're going to read it

  56. together at the end of service. But right now, I'm just going to

  57. read it. The Apostles Creed is, I believe

  58. in God, the Father Almighty creator of Heaven and Earth.

  59. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son our Lord, who was

  60. conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

  61. He suffered under Pontius Pilate was crucified died and was

  62. buried. He descended to Hell.

  63. The third day. He rose again from the dead.

  64. He ascended to heaven. And is seated at the right hand

  65. of God, the Father Almighty from there.

  66. He will come to judge the living and the dead, I believe in the

  67. Holy Spirit the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints,

  68. the Forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the

  69. life, Everlasting, amen, or amen.

  70. Depending on your faith tradition and your background.

  71. So today we're zooming in we're looking specifically at I

  72. believe in Jesus Christ, his only son our Lord, we noticed

  73. how in the creative breaks down, there's three I believes, I

  74. believe in God, the Father, I believe in Jesus Christ, I

  75. believe in the Holy Spirit and then we have Doctrine teaching

  76. each of those. So we have the Trinity being

  77. taught. There's a lot happening in the

  78. Creed but we're focusing today on I believe on in Jesus Christ,

  79. his only son our Lord. We're going to look at each of

  80. those Christ son. And Lord, three distinctions

  81. that are being made here. So, we want to clarify right off

  82. the bat. The Bible doesn't allow for us

  83. to call Jesus a good guy, the Bible doesn't allow for us to

  84. call Jesus a great teacher. The Bible does not allow for us

  85. to merely call Jesus a religious leader.

  86. There's, there's no opportunity for that.

  87. I'm going to show you in John chapter 10.

    John 10 chapter mention

  88. I told you to go to Hebrews, but I lied.

  89. Sorry. John chapter 10, verses, 27

    John 10 chapter mention

  90. through 33. My sheep hear my voice.

  91. So he's talking to a crowd. He's talking to the Pharisees.

  92. My sheep hear my voice. And I know them and they follow

  93. me, I give them eternal life. If a human being speaks this

  94. way, can we call this person? He's just a good moral teacher.

  95. If he claims to give human to give other people eternal life,

  96. can you just said yeah, I think he was a good guy will hang on a

  97. second. He made some claims about

  98. himself that you've got to deal with, because he said some

  99. really bold things and you can't necessarily lump them into.

  100. He was nice like, well, he said he gives people eternal life,

  101. you got to do something with that.

  102. Well I don't believe it ha fair enough, you've done something

  103. with it but you haven't kidded yourself.

  104. You haven't lied, me like It's just I'm going to set it aside.

  105. There's no setting. Jesus aside he won't be set

  106. aside. My sheep hear my voice.

  107. And I know them and they follow me.

  108. I give them eternal life and they will never perish and no

  109. one will snatch them. Out of my hand, it's just a nice

  110. guy, teacher with some new religious ideas.

  111. He was just about love, right? That's what I've heard.

  112. The enemies of Christ, teach me a lot about Christ, don't know

  113. if you've noticed that in the world, people who don't love and

  114. know God, they seem to be experts on social media anyway,

  115. very vocal about what Jesus was all about.

  116. No one can snatch them out of my hand.

  117. My father who has given them to me, is greater than all and no

  118. one is able to snatch them. Out of the father's hand, I and

  119. the father are one. The Jews picked up stones to

  120. Stone him, again, to Stone him. I like how it adds again, the

  121. Jews picked up stones. Again, here we go to Stone him.

  122. Jesus answered them. I love Jesus, sarcasm, and his

  123. wit, and his insults. I've shown you many good works

  124. from the father, for which of them.

  125. Are you going to Stone me? They're all flustered.

  126. No, no no. The Jews answer.

  127. It's not pretty good work that we're going to Stone you but for

  128. blasphemy because you being a man, make yourself.

  129. What's the word god? You being a man?

  130. You're making yourself God. They understood exactly what he

  131. was claiming. He's going.

  132. Yes, you get the point. You've heard me clearly.

  133. The problem is you don't believe Jesus made himself God in their

  134. ears. Has he already was God, he's

  135. just coming as God revealed, but this is, this is why Christ was

  136. crucified. He wasn't crucified, you don't

  137. get crucified for nothing, he crucified for something for

  138. telling the truth. So, he says, They said, we don't

  139. we don't Stone you for any good work that you do.

  140. We Stone you for blasphemy because you being a man, you

  141. make yourself God. And that's the point.

  142. Jesus didn't Jesus. Did make it clear that, that's

  143. exactly who he was. I want to read you.

  144. A quote from c.s. Lewis.

  145. He said, I'm trying, he wrote this in his book, Mere

  146. Christianity. I'm trying here to prevent

  147. anyone saying, the really foolish thing that people often

  148. say about him. And about Christ.

  149. And that is I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher.

  150. But I don't accept his claim to be God and now see us Louis

  151. continues. He says this is one thing.

  152. We must not say a man who is merely a man and said, the sort

  153. of things that Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher.

  154. He would either be a lunatic on the same level as a man who

  155. says, he is a poached egg or or else he would be the devil of

  156. help you. You must make your choice

  157. either. This man was and is the Son of

  158. God or else, he's a Madman or something worse.

  159. You can shut him up as a fool, you can spit at him and kill him

  160. as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and

  161. God, but let us not come up with any patronizing, nonsense about

  162. him. Being a great human teacher, he

  163. has not left that open to us. He did not intend to This is

  164. often called the trilemma is what?

  165. It's been renamed. In recent years.

  166. Jesus is, Lord, Jesus is a liar or Jesus is a lunatic but you

  167. don't get to go. He's cool.

  168. Like he's that wasn't really an option.

  169. He says, if he says, if he makes a grand claim you gotta, he's

  170. crazy. He thinks that about himself

  171. bless his heart. He's a liar.

  172. He knows that's not who he is, or he is who he says he is.

  173. Well, I know who he is, but do you believe I believe?

  174. In Jesus Christ. His only son our Lord.

  175. So the Creed of firms. What God's word already teaches?

  176. Jesus is Messiah ship. Jesus is sonship, and Jesus is

  177. lordship. Jesus is the savior of the

  178. world. Jesus is one with the Father and

  179. Jesus is King over all. This is all good news.

  180. Now, the problem is Jesus is only been taught as Savior in

  181. our culture in our moment, that is most of the time, the

  182. emphasis that's get that gets It's made.

  183. Should that be emphasized? Well they all should all parts

  184. of who he is, should be emphasized and be clearly

  185. taught. Hey, and it's all good news.

  186. There was no bad news in it, but the problem is when we extract

  187. one of these and we don't emphasize them all together go.

  188. He's a full, this is the full God, this is who he fully is,

  189. then we've missed something important about his nature about

  190. his character and about who he really is.

  191. So this is why the Creed of firms Jesus Christ, that's the

  192. savior. God's only son, he's one with

  193. the father, he's our Lord that were Lord.

  194. He means we're going to get into all of it.

  195. He is first, he is preeminent. Why do I emphasizing lordship so

  196. much? Because we fight where the fight

  197. is, we need to emphasize where something is weak and we need to

  198. strengthen it. Well, I feel like you're always.

  199. You're always lifting weights to work out this muscle.

  200. Yeah, because I'm super weak there.

  201. I've got a weakness there. Well, you ought to do all this.

  202. Why do all that too? But these other things are

  203. actually pretty much in balance these, these other things.

  204. They don't need a lot of Effort or, or they're

  205. disproportionately, large in some cases, you know, like,

  206. that's my problem, my muscles everywhere, they're just too

  207. big, you know, it's an embarrassing issue.

  208. I've had for a long time, I'm just that guy who's just to to

  209. swallow, but but in some cases, we've got to make adjustments.

  210. Go hang on a sec. You got to you got to build this

  211. up. Well, well, I just want to Jesus

  212. who's a savior. Well, you don't get to make him

  213. in your, in your image. He is who he is and we have to

  214. understand him fully we come to him and we don't bring him to us

  215. and Andre reframe him and reshape him.

  216. So to say, I believe in Jesus is to say, I believe in the real

  217. Jesus, not a Jesus that I create with my own desires, but the

  218. Jesus that the Bible reveals, that's the only Jesus.

  219. And again, in the day and age we live in where, well, My Jesus

  220. would never lie. Stop with whatever dumb thing is

  221. about to come out of your mouth and just come back to the word

  222. of God. My Jesus, there's one Jesus.

  223. Well, he's my are good. But is your Jesus also the

  224. Bible? Jesus.

  225. Yep. Praise God.

  226. Praise God. That's, that's the only way it

  227. works. He's called the Cornerstone.

  228. The Cornerstone is the stone. That was set the first stone.

  229. And they said we're going to build the whole building based

  230. off the orientation of this one stone.

  231. We got this one. Lee set the way we want it.

  232. And now, the whole rest of the building, the lines will be

  233. drawn. Everything will come off of this

  234. Stone. Everyone must be calibrated

  235. according to the Cornerstone. That's what Christ is.

  236. That's who he is. Are you in Hebrews, yet?

  237. You've had plenty of time. I don't hear any excuses.

  238. Hebrews chapter 1. Some people think Hebrews was a

    Hebrews 1 chapter mention

  239. letter, some people that Hebrews was a sermon, and you can kind

  240. of see the argument for a, possibly being a sermon, because

  241. it starts off with fire like right out of the gate, there's

  242. no introduction. So, hey everybody.

  243. I'm so, and so we don't know who wrote it.

  244. Some people think Paul wrote it, some people think somebody else

  245. wrote it. And you can see the argument for

  246. a sermon here, we're going to just look at the first three

  247. verses right now. Long ago at many times.

  248. And in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets.

  249. But in these last days, he has spoken to us by his son, whom he

  250. appointed the heir of all things through whom.

  251. He also created the world. He is the radiance of the glory

  252. of God, and the exact imprint of his nature and he Jesus upholds,

  253. the universe by the word of his power after making purification

  254. for Sins. He sat down at the right hand of

  255. the Majesty on high fat and fire you up, then you better wake up.

  256. Jesus is being glorified here. Jesus is being.

  257. There's a subtitle that's been put in my Bible it wouldn't it

  258. wasn't there in the original writing but it says the

  259. supremacy of God's son. God used to speak to us.

  260. So Hebrews was written to Hebrews.

  261. Good. Yes, there So Hebrews has

  262. written to the Jewish people and the Jewish people they have

  263. other Patriarchs that they look up to.

  264. We're looking up to Moses. We're looking up to Abraham as

  265. we as Christians do as well. We say, praise God for what

  266. David did and for these men of God and how the Lord used them,

  267. and how they were served and how they serve God, how they were

  268. anointed by God, how they fulfilled his will.

  269. So they're often looking at the Patriarchs, but as the Hebrews

  270. as the letter of Hebrews of the sermon of Hebrews goes on, Jesus

  271. is just can't it just swells. Starts on fire and it grows even

  272. more to the point where he says, Jesus is far superior to Moses.

  273. And this is the thing that the Jewish people are like, oh, hang

  274. on a sec. He's going.

  275. Hang on. You got to understand Jewish

  276. Christians, Hebrews, who have come to Christ to know the

  277. Messiah. The Messiah is not like, he's

  278. like, Moses. He's like Abraham, no, no, he's

  279. far superior. And the same way that the

  280. builder of the house is superior to the house itself.

  281. He's calling Moses. The house is going Abraham, the

  282. house. But Jesus is the Builder.

  283. He could tear a house down and build.

  284. Another one, tomorrow, Jesus is the thing.

  285. He's the Pinnacle. Uncle.

  286. He's the one who's supreme, but you also see he's the exact

  287. imprint of the father. That means he's just like the

  288. father. He is one with the father and

  289. yet he is distinct from the father.

  290. He is not the father. Sounds like a Maury Povich line

  291. there for a second. You Chris picked up one of the

  292. same time. I did you are not the father.

  293. So the kids like what's Maury Povich be glad you don't know.

  294. So Jesus, the Father, the Holy Spirit, their one, God but they

  295. are not, but they are not the same thing as one, another

  296. separate persons distinct and roll.

  297. This is one of many passages in the New Testament that shows

  298. Jesus Is God, and Jesus is God's son.

  299. We have God the Father Almighty and we have Jesus Christ God's

  300. son. He says the father has spoken

  301. through his servants and now he has spoken through his son.

  302. One thing you notice though, when the son speaks, he doesn't

  303. speak like all of the other prophets have spoken.

  304. When the other prophets spoke, they always said.

  305. The Lord says they would say. The word of the Lord is they

  306. would say the spirit is saying, when the sun spoke, the son said

  307. you've heard it said this way. But I say it this way, he spoke

  308. with his own authority and they said he doesn't sound like

  309. anybody else. We've heard before he speaks as

  310. The one who has Authority. Now you're getting it.

  311. Now you're catching on, he does have authority, he is supreme,

  312. he is Ultimate. He says, I say to you, he speaks

  313. with authority, because he has Authority, go to John chapter

    John 14 chapter mention

  314. 14. We're going to look more at this

  315. idea of his Unity with the father.

  316. As the father's only son, as Jesus is deity, The Book of John

  317. does a lot. There's much in the Book of

  318. John, that shows the deity of Christ.

  319. If there's one gospel, that doesn't more than any other to

  320. be the Book of John from the beginning versus that we read

  321. earlier in service to many other claims that Jesus makes

  322. throughout it to when they want to Stone it were stoning.

  323. You because you are saying your God, he's like, well, you're

  324. right. That is what I'm saying, but

  325. John chapter 14 and verse 6. Jesus said to him talking to his

    John 14 chapter mention

  326. disciples, I am the way, the truth and the life.

  327. No one comes to the father, except through me.

  328. If you had known me you would have known my father.

  329. Also from now on you do know him and you have seen him Philip

  330. said to him, Lord show us the father and it is enough for us.

  331. Jesus said to him, have I been with you so long And you still

  332. do not know me. Philip Whoever has seen me, has

  333. seen the father. How can you say show us the

  334. father? Do you not believe that I am in

  335. the father? And the father is in me the

  336. words I say to you do not speak. I do not speak on my own

  337. authority but the father who dwells in me does his Works,

  338. believe me, that I am in the father and the father is in me

  339. or else believe on account of The Works themselves.

  340. Believe Me, Jesus says if you've seen me, you've seen the father,

  341. this is what Jesus does. He gives us the image of God,

  342. man. What's God really like, could

  343. anybody ever really know? Yes.

  344. Yes. He's revealed himself through

  345. his word. He's revealed himself through

  346. his son, Jesus. And like we said last week some

  347. people have this idea God the father's mad and Jesus is here

  348. like get us on his good side. That is a misunderstanding.

  349. That is not who God is that is not how he operates, Jesus

  350. accomplishes and fulfills the will of the father.

  351. And Jesus says, I only do what I see my father doing.

  352. So, he saw his father Healing The Sick, he saw his father,

  353. raising the dead, he saw his father blessing, the children,

  354. he saw his father forgiving Sinners, the father's will and

  355. Jesus is whether or not divided and the holy spirit's.

  356. Well, they're not divided, God planned, this God ordained, this

  357. from the foundations of the world.

  358. Now there is a there is a unique way where Jesus is 33 years on

  359. the earth. There was a unique role to That

  360. there's something different happening.

  361. There was a unique way that they were functioning they hadn't

  362. function to before there's a unique way that they functioned

  363. for that temporary season. But they were always one Jesus,

  364. always maintained his God, status his deity.

  365. But if you've seen me, you've seen the father, this is good

  366. news. You can know exactly what God

  367. is, like, because Jesus is God because Jesus reveals the father

  368. because the Holy Spirit, glorifies Jesus, We see this

  369. service, we see this love within the Trinity.

  370. We see the father bringing leadership, we see even a

  371. hierarchy not in, not in value, but we see rolls operating

  372. within the Trinity is what we talked about in our sermon on

  373. submission to women. Women have been lied to and told

  374. that submission, is a burden, something and Christians, and

  375. the world, certainly. But Christians, most of the time

  376. in their heart of hearts believes that a wife submission

  377. to her, husband is a punishment in a cruelty.

  378. They believe that in their heart of hearts and it's false and

  379. it's unbiblical. Well, it is a gift.

  380. It is a blessing. Just like it was a gift and a

  381. joy, and a blessing for Jesus to submit to the Father, and Jesus

  382. did not become less in doing so he fulfilled his role, he

  383. pleased, the Father and Jesus is glorified.

  384. It pleased. The father to glorify Christ

  385. through it. So they are co-equal.

  386. They are Co eternal We'll keep going here and looking at Jesus,

  387. as the imprints of the father, go to Colossians. flip towards

  388. the, the back of your new testament, you're going to

  389. Philippians and then Colossians Colossians chapter 1.

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  390. What are we looking at today? I believe in Jesus Christ, his

  391. only son. Our Lord.

  392. We're still looking at the sonship of Christ.

  393. We're mixing it all together, why?

  394. But because he's a whole person, he doesn't exist in boxes.

  395. He's one person and all of these things are true about him all

  396. the time, Colossians 1:15. Again, I've got a heading here

    Colossians 1:15

  397. in my Bible. It says the preeminence of

  398. Christ verse 15. He is the image talking about

  399. Jesus. He is the image of the

  400. invisible. God God's invisible.

  401. Nobody can see him, right? Except that God became visible

  402. because he put himself in the image in Christ.

  403. Jesus is the image of the invisible.

  404. God, the firstborn of all creation.

  405. For by him, all things were created in heaven and on Earth,

  406. visible and invisible, whether Thrones, or dominions or rulers

  407. or authorities. All things were created through

  408. him. And for him, And he is before

  409. all things, and in him all things, hold together.

  410. And he is the head of that body, the church.

  411. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead that in

  412. everything, he might be preeminent for in him.

  413. All the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through

  414. him, to reconcile to himself all things, whether on Earth or in

  415. heaven May collapse. In Peace, by the blood of his

  416. cross. Jesus is incredible.

  417. He is the exact copy and the representation.

  418. So the idea here that was being used this idea of imprinting,

  419. the the mop, the early readers of this text.

  420. They would have understood this to be just like a coin was made.

  421. There's the original mold and then they've got the soft metal

  422. that's getting ready to be pressed and the Press comes down

  423. on it and the image of Caesar or whoever their current ruler was

  424. was pressed into that coin. It's the Image.

  425. It's not the mold itself but it's the exact image pressed

  426. into it. You can see it identical.

  427. If you got a coin in your pocket, you can see that can't.

  428. There was a press somewhere. You like, I wonder what that

  429. press really looks like. You know exactly what the Press

  430. looks like, that's what the Press looks like.

  431. Look at the coin and thankfully, unlike a coin.

  432. Jesus doesn't wear off. He doesn't weaken, he doesn't

  433. change. There's nothing temporary about

  434. him. He is always strong.

  435. He is always Eternal. He is always clear.

  436. So he is the exact copy and the exact exact representation.

  437. As we say, in the South, he's the spitting image.

  438. So we can't see the original mold, but we know we do know

  439. exactly what the original mold looks like Christ.

  440. The Messiah is the image of God that Humanity can look at but

  441. you should look at the whole Christ.

  442. And this is my argument that a lot of times people look

  443. exclusively at one part ago. He saved me from my sin, hang on

  444. a second. You know, you know what that

  445. means means, you have sinned and do you know that you have to

  446. know more than knowing. Do you know the you have to

  447. believe on. Jesus Christ.

  448. Well yeah I like the Christ like to save your part.

  449. Well you don't get one without the other.

  450. You don't you don't get the Savior without also getting the

  451. Lord. You don't get Jesus can't be

  452. purchased in Parts, there's just Jesus, there's just the real

  453. Jesus. The whole Jesus.

  454. The only Jesus Natalie can't have like parts of husband and

  455. not other parts. She's like I want like I like

  456. the money thing. Like the the income thing like

  457. big fan, big fan of that like the the other stuff.

  458. If like nothing else, just like the money thing.

  459. Well, that's not how you get me. Like, there's all of me.

  460. I'll be the, I'll be the whole husband in every way, gladly all

  461. the responsibilities, all the joys, everything all of it

  462. together. But that's, that's that's what

  463. you get. And that's good news by the way,

  464. that's good news. But selfish person and immature

  465. person according to a person goes, I just want this.

  466. But that's because that person is just serving themself.

  467. They actually, they actually don't want any responsibility.

  468. It would be if Natalie would it. Take That point of view or if

  469. your husband were to take that point of view, I'm just I'm

  470. using, I'm just extracting Jesus.

  471. You are useful to me because I'm Lorde.

  472. And Lord I would never say it that way with my mouth, but I

  473. would believe it with my heart, my life shows it my actions

  474. reveal. What I believe always, it is an

  475. inescapable truth fruit, always tells the truth of what's going

  476. on inside and out of the Overflow of the heart, the mouth

  477. will speak. So it will come out one way or

  478. another, but I'm using jizo. He's super useful.

  479. He can save me. You can like, do stuff for me.

  480. I've taped, I like that part of Jesus.

  481. Well, when I have a misunderstanding of who he is, I

  482. didn't hold it against him when things don't go the way I

  483. thought. Thought they were supposed to

  484. the way that I heard that they should one time, because I don't

  485. know the word of God and I actually don't know, Jesus.

  486. I know a caricature of Jesus. I know, and I know a westernized

  487. version of Jesus, but I don't know.

  488. Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.

  489. I just know Jesus is the savior. Well, yeah, that's great news.

  490. But the only thing that qualifies him to be the savior

  491. is the fact that he is also Lord and the fact that he is the Son

  492. of God, it's all together and it's all good news.

  493. There's not one ounce of bad news anywhere in there.

  494. It's all good news, why? Because Jesus is good.

  495. Thank God, that God is good. If he wasn't, we wouldn't be

  496. here to talk about him. So In this passage, we see Jesus

  497. lordship. I love this passage, could you

  498. see so much happening? You see all three things

  499. happening, you see his lordship, you see his sonship and you see

  500. his messiahship In this passage in Colossians 1:15 through 20.

    Colossians 1:15–20

  501. So let's look at verse 15 will go one verse at a time here and

  502. we're going to see each thing and verse 15.

  503. We see sonship he is the image of the invisible.

  504. God the firstborn of all creation.

  505. That word firstborn has led to many misunderstandings.

  506. Understandings and false teachings because people have

  507. taken it to mean that Jesus is a created being fair enough at

  508. first glance. But it's a, it's, it's a totally

  509. incomplete reading of all of the Bible, right?

  510. We can't just take. I like this verse.

  511. I'm gonna build everything on it.

  512. It's going to be on my coffee mug, in my refrigerator, and my

  513. bumper sticker, hang a slow down.

  514. There's more viable than one verse.

  515. Are you saying that first isn't true?

  516. I'm saying, we got to consider everything.

  517. Let's make sure we're paying attention.

  518. The whole Bible is true together.

  519. Let's make sure we understand what's And what's being said?

  520. So like my son's, my firstborn son, Elijah he there was a day,

  521. he did not exist. There was a time when he didn't

  522. exist anywhere except in the heart of God.

  523. And then there came a time where he started to exist.

  524. This is not the case with the Lord Jesus Christ.

  525. He does not have a beginning date.

  526. He did not start to exist at one time, he is eternal.

  527. God, the father is eternal, Jesus is eternal, in the Holy

  528. Spirit is eternal, Jesus does not have a beginning.

  529. Well he has a beginning on Earth.

  530. Yes. There was a time to about 2000's

  531. years ago, when he was born of a virgin, but that was just him

  532. God, the word of God becoming flesh like we read in John 1,

  533. the word became flesh. Jesus is the word of God.

  534. What was his form before? That the word of the father, it

  535. seems to me. So the word of God became flesh

  536. and now he has that glorified body forever.

  537. That's how we think of him. So was he the first born?

  538. Yes, he was the firstborn of the new creation as well.

  539. Not that he was made into a new creation.

  540. Ian because he was always him but he leads the way for

  541. everybody who can now be born again.

  542. So when he's talking about firstborn, there's two ideas

  543. there that are trying to be communicated that the the

  544. readers would have understood. It's not that he had a start

  545. date, it's not that Christ started to exist.

  546. The father's like I'd like a son.

  547. Now I have a son and now he'll be God with me.

  548. That's not what happened. Jesus the Eternal Word of God

  549. was always with the father and the word became flesh.

  550. But first born is not a reference to him being created

  551. or and that's not even a reference to him being born on

  552. Earth. It is a reference.

  553. This award firstborn is referencing the power and the

  554. position and the inheritance of the first born throughout the

  555. ancient world, that's what's being referenced here.

  556. So the first born is the one who gets the bulk of The

  557. Inheritance, the firstborn gets the bulk of the Privileges.

  558. The firstborn son is the one who is preeminent.

  559. Among his brothers, and Jesus is preeminent amongst the church.

  560. His brothers. Jesus is the firstborn in that

  561. sense. Not that.

  562. Had a beginning. But this reference is his power,

  563. his position and his inheritance and it pleases, the father to

  564. call him son in verse 16 for by him.

  565. All things were created In heaven and on Earth visible and

  566. invisible, whether Thrones, or dominions or rulers or

  567. authorities. All things were created through

  568. him. And for him, through him, and

  569. for him, all things were created.

  570. He lists every possible Authority that he could think

  571. of, he's like rulers, dominions natural Supernatural, you name

  572. it. Everything was made by Jesus.

  573. For Jesus. What does that mean for

  574. creation? What does that mean for every

  575. single human that you and I know what does that mean for my life?

  576. You exist everybody for the glory of Jesus.

  577. That's it. Well I don't know if the

  578. governor, I don't know if the president.

  579. I'm not everybody exists for the pleasure of Jesus Christ.

  580. There's no other purpose for anybody anywhere.

  581. That is humbling. I'm not the tip of the spear.

  582. I'm not the Pinnacle. I'm not the top of the mountain.

  583. Jesus, is we exist for his glory.

  584. That should draw us to worship. That's the drawers too.

  585. It's almost feels like lordship. Welcome to the point.

  586. God is God and you are not. And this is good news.

  587. This means every ruler no matter no matter it which level the

  588. three spheres that we've talked about.

  589. So many times God is and God created these three different

  590. spheres of rulership but they're all under the rulership of

  591. Christ. The household, the church, the

  592. civil government, which we often think of the civil government is

  593. being Superior and the other two are parked underneath it.

  594. That is not what God has done. They each have roles, and, and

  595. purposes and distinct places. This means that every husband,

  596. every father, Every Pastor, every president, every prime

  597. minister, every official, every Angel, every Archangel, every

  598. thrown every ruler was made for the pleasure glory and will of

  599. Jesus Christ, they will submit to him like they were designed

  600. to or the father will make them his footstool.

  601. That's what he promises. Jesus, I'll make your enemies

  602. your footstool. What's the advice, kiss?

  603. The son? Lest he be angry at you?

  604. Well, is he like that? Well, he's the savior of the

  605. world but he's worthy of Glory. He knows who he is and he knows

  606. what he's worth just because you don't doesn't mean he gets

  607. confused, your confusion doesn't confuse him.

  608. Your attempt to demote him won't demote him.

  609. This is why the church has its role of telling the truth to the

  610. world. The truth of God is to be told

  611. to the world. Wasn't there supposed to be a

  612. separation of church and state says who?

  613. Who do you think would have said that?

  614. I don't let's go back to the Bible.

  615. Everything was created through him and everything was created

  616. for him. So now should I go ask the

  617. creation? What creation thinks we ought to

  618. do about obeying him who created it for him?

  619. This is like extra level special kind of stupid.

  620. It's bizarre. But it's not just stupid.

  621. It's disbelief. It's not about stupidity.

  622. It's disbelief, makes you stupid.

  623. Disbelief makes me stupid. Pastor Ken says, it simply one

  624. of my favorite lines of his egos send makes you stupid and it's

  625. true, and unbelief is a sin. But this, this should fill us

  626. with courage and our role as the church.

  627. What's the role of the church? The church is the Pillar of

  628. Truth in the world. That's the responsibility of the

  629. Church of Jesus Christ is the church supposed to execute

  630. Killers. Nope, that's not the role of the

  631. church that Authority. The authority to kill and take

  632. human life. The lord gave to the Civil

  633. Authorities to the civil magistrate, God gave that to the

  634. government said, I want you to punish Is righteous to punish

  635. they do that. Unfortunately.

  636. And their wickedness, I want you to punish the unrighteous and

  637. reward the righteous. That's your role so they can go

  638. we'll put a speed limit in place.

  639. That's fine. That's a love your neighbor kind

  640. of law. That's good.

  641. We're going to put some things in place.

  642. A lot of times they overstep though in our context, the

  643. government is massive and people don't even recognize it.

  644. People don't even think about it.

  645. Is this, an anti-government message?

  646. Absolutely, not the government is on.

  647. Jesus is shoulder, though. I'm all about government, Jesus

  648. is built and established. It's all for him.

  649. So should there be a separation of church and state?

  650. Well, yes, in the sense that the church should not be the state.

  651. And, and I don't think that the Church of Jesus Christ that the

  652. elders, the pastor should be running all civil governments,

  653. but all civil governments should be submitted to the will of

  654. Jesus Christ. So if you want to have a

  655. separation of church and state, I guess, technically I can agree

  656. but there should never be separation from church from from

  657. State and God their God. God is connected to church, God

  658. is connected to State, God is connected to household, there is

  659. no other option, the laws will be made and there's no such

  660. thing as a neutral. Law law will always be pulling

  661. in One Direction or another depending on who the lawmakers

  662. are. And all lawmakers should submit

  663. and bend the knee to the Lord Jesus Christ.

  664. Well, we don't agree with that. Well, who are you?

  665. Are you? The Lord Jesus Christ because he

  666. made everything every ruler, and every Authority.

  667. Well, I don't believe that. Well, that's where you're wrong.

  668. This is simple stuff but the church shouldn't back up.

  669. You shouldn't let courage. Why?

  670. Because you should be about Jesus Glory.

  671. So you should be jealous for his glory, not for our Glory.

  672. But for his glory, you should be jealous for your Lord's.

  673. Glory. You should be eager to please

  674. your lord to the to tell the truth.

  675. Because that's the role of the church to be the pillow, the

  676. truth and the Earth and say, hey this is good, this is right,

  677. this is wrong. Well we can't allow the church

  678. to make the law. No we're not the lawmakers,

  679. that's the government's role. Roll.

  680. But when you're off, we must instruct you.

  681. That's the role of the church to call righteousness and to call

  682. evil. And to say, hang on guys, you

  683. made a mistake there. You made a mistake there because

  684. God's word declares this. Well, we want separation of

  685. church and state But you can't be separate from God because

  686. he's the one who established you.

  687. He's the one who's giving you your instruction, otherwise you

  688. just think you're a bunch of mammals who are making laws

  689. based on your own preferences and brain chemistry.

  690. Which again, disbelief leads to all sorts of foolishness, all

  691. sorts of sin, all sorts of Brokenness.

  692. But God is about human flourishing and God is about

  693. God's glory. There's a fable a tale that is

  694. told about a ship who was plowing through the Seas, one

  695. night, a a destroyer. It goes like this plowing

  696. through the see one rough night over foggy Seas.

  697. A destroyers radar, suddenly indicates, an object directly in

  698. its path. The captain sends a radio

  699. signal, we're on a collision course.

  700. We advise you to change course 10 degrees.

  701. North a response comes back and crackles over the radio - we

  702. advise you to change course 10 degrees, north 10 Degrees, South

  703. the captain can now see this blinking light from the

  704. approaching object perturbed? He Bells reply I'm a ship's.

  705. Captain change the course, 10 degrees north now.

  706. The reply comes. I'm a seaman second class.

  707. Advise you change course, 10 Degrees South to avoid imminent.

  708. Collision. The captain is now Furious he

  709. blurts another command. This is a destroyer of the

  710. United States Navy change. Your course immediately back

  711. comes the reply. This is a lighthouse I'm not

  712. moving. I won't move.

  713. I can't move. Welcome to Jesus.

  714. The Cornerstone. You will adapt to him, or you'll

  715. be crushed by him or you'll be his footstool.

  716. The lighthouse doesn't move the times are changing fools.

  717. Will say, I agree, times, literally changing every second

  718. great point, but the lighthouse still hasn't moved.

  719. And this is good news because, you know what a lighthouse does.

  720. The lighthouse, doesn't just get in your way and go, oh, not

  721. moving. On the White House.

  722. The White House says, I'm here to shine light.

  723. I'm here to give you Direction and I'm here to protect you from

  724. your own destruction. That's what a lighthouse does.

  725. This is the good news of Jesus. He's the Savior.

  726. Right. Absolutely.

  727. He's the Savior and he's Lord, and He won't move and you won't

  728. move him. He's strong, he's worthy.

  729. He knows who he is. Do you know who, He is is always

  730. the question. Who do you say that?

  731. I am Peter. Who do you say that?

  732. I am. That's the question that

  733. everybody has to answer. I don't get to answer it off.

  734. My Mom and Dad's Faith. You don't get answered off a

  735. Pastor James, faith. I won't stand before you before

  736. the king of glory. I'll be trembling all by myself

  737. before him. My children won't be good to go

  738. but Daddy. But mommy though go the king of

  739. glory. Should that be a scary moment?

  740. I'm gonna throw myself again under the blood, the blood, I

  741. plead the blood of Jesus and the father smiles and goes of course

  742. of course there's no other there's nothing else, you can't

  743. plead not guilty. But you can plead the blood.

  744. Jesus is the light house and this is good news.

  745. Let's keep looking here to see more about his lordship verse 17

  746. and he is before all things. And in him all things, hold

  747. together. He is the head of the body, the

  748. church. He is the beginning the

  749. firstborn from the dead that in everything, he might be

  750. preeminent. There were preeminent, it just

  751. means first first among first among first.

  752. What do you mean by that? Yes, first Above and beyond

  753. everybody so you can joyfully not with anger.

  754. But joyfully tell the whole world that Jesus is, first Jesus

  755. is Lord, Jesus is Savior. Jesus Is God, give them the

  756. whole picture of this good and perfect?

  757. God, tell them the truth. You don't have to stay back and

  758. conversations. You don't have to hide your

  759. well, some people don't believe that, right?

  760. Which is why you're here church so that they may believe so that

  761. they can be saved because God loves them, this Is God's plan

  762. to rescue the world through his son?

  763. This is the good news. This is what verse 20 goes on to

  764. tell us as we see more about the messiahship.

  765. This is the side that I said, sometimes we are too.

  766. We just go. He's just my savior.

  767. He's just my save. You just say use me.

  768. All he ever does is save me well and he's worthy, right?

  769. Well, he saves me but verse 20 and 4 sizes.

  770. Yes, he's the savior. And through him.

  771. Sorry, I'll pick back in verse 18, will connect it all and he

  772. is the head of the body, the church he is the beginning the

  773. firstborn from the dead that in everything he might be

  774. preeminent. So right now you're going to

  775. save me from the Wrath of the Lamb, hang on for in him.

  776. All the fullness of God was pleased to dwell ah save me from

  777. the Wrath of the Lamb, hang on, and through him, to reconcile to

  778. himself all things, whether on On Earth or in heaven, Making

  779. Peace by the blood of his cross. Are you kidding me?

  780. I was getting really scared. Yeah.

  781. But you don't have to be afraid of him.

  782. Although you should fear Him, you take coverage in him.

  783. He is your protection. He's your salvation, but don't

  784. get me wrong, you don't want to run your shipping to him.

  785. But if you will, but he will serve you.

  786. Well, as a lighthouse, if you'll take his direction and you will

  787. adjust course, if you will just korth go south 10 degrees or in

  788. our case is, all of us needed to turn 180 degrees in Repentance.

  789. If you will adjust course because the lighthouse has, hey

  790. I got you. I'm protecting you, I'm looking

  791. out for you because I love you, he makes peace.

  792. How does he make peace does Jesus make peace by destroying

  793. his enemies. Eventually, he will destroy his

  794. enemies as we've talked about and seen, but but that's not how

  795. he's made peace between us and himself.

  796. He makes Peace by the blood of his cross.

  797. He takes the hit. Jesus Takes the penalty, Jesus

  798. Takes the suffering, he makes peace not by killing his

  799. enemies, but Jesus makes Peace by giving himself to be killed.

  800. What kind of God is this? This is the god that we say I
