Hebrews chapter 1 is where you can be waiting, we'll get to it
Hebrews 1 chapter mention
-
in a couple of minutes. So we are doing our series on
-
the Apostles Creed and we've talked a little bit about the
-
Apostles Creed and we've said what it is and what it isn't.
-
The Apostles Creed is not the Bible.
-
The Apostles Creed though is a tool that was used to help teach
-
the Bible. Just like if you were to teach
-
somebody the Bible, you would use your own words.
-
You would try and communicate it.
-
And you're in your own way, the Apostles Creed does that, but
-
it's something the church leadership came together on not
-
not too long after Christ it ascended a couple hundred years
-
and the churches use the Apostles Creed Lead in Mass for
-
at least fifteen hundred years to clarify Doctrine.
-
To say this is what we believe you can't, you can't remove.
-
This is are irreducible Parts. When it comes to Christianity.
-
Could there be more? Could we have other preferences?
-
Could we have other interpretations on other things?
-
Sure, there's a lot of opportunity.
-
There is a lot of freedom there, but these are irreducible cores.
-
You can't pull one thing out of the Apostles Creed and go.
-
Yeah, that's still intact everything here matters.
-
Everything here is important and this teaches us basic Christian
-
doctrine. So we can know What do I
-
believe? What?
-
I believe in Jesus. What do you mean by that?
-
Well, we clarified in the Apostles Creed oh, I believe in
-
God. Well, what do you mean by that?
-
The devil believes in God? So how do we clarify this?
-
How do we get more specific to actually say what is the
-
difference between knowing something?
-
I know there's a god, well, everybody does ultimately, but
-
do you believe in him? Because if you know, there's a
-
God, that means one thing. But if you believe in him, that
-
totally changes the way that you live.
-
I told you before. I I know people who say that
-
they know that there's a God and yet they don't believe in him,
-
they're not following him. They won't worship him.
-
They. Yeah.
-
I know, I know, I know, I know, they know a lot of things and we
-
said we all know how we ought to eat.
-
We ought to work out, I know that I should do those things
-
but I don't have enough belief in some of these areas that it
-
leads me to conviction but the Apostles Creed gives us Clarity
-
and Doctrine. It brings us Unity.
-
So we can celebrate with the whole body of Christ and say,
-
hey, we are Christians and it means something to be a
-
Christian, and this is what it means, what we did.
-
Were on this. Well, that's okay.
-
We got room for that. We've got freedom for that and
-
the scripture is make room for our differences and yet we don't
-
want to get away from this irreducible core.
-
So the Apostles Creed is a powerful tool that we're walking
-
through step-by-step line by line.
-
I'm going to read it to you now and then we're going to read it
-
together at the end of service. But right now, I'm just going to
-
read it. The Apostles Creed is, I believe
-
in God, the Father Almighty creator of Heaven and Earth.
-
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son our Lord, who was
-
conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
-
He suffered under Pontius Pilate was crucified died and was
-
buried. He descended to Hell.
-
The third day. He rose again from the dead.
-
He ascended to heaven. And is seated at the right hand
-
of God, the Father Almighty from there.
-
He will come to judge the living and the dead, I believe in the
-
Holy Spirit the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints,
-
the Forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the
-
life, Everlasting, amen, or amen.
-
Depending on your faith tradition and your background.
-
So today we're zooming in we're looking specifically at I
-
believe in Jesus Christ, his only son our Lord, we noticed
-
how in the creative breaks down, there's three I believes, I
-
believe in God, the Father, I believe in Jesus Christ, I
-
believe in the Holy Spirit and then we have Doctrine teaching
-
each of those. So we have the Trinity being
-
taught. There's a lot happening in the
-
Creed but we're focusing today on I believe on in Jesus Christ,
-
his only son our Lord. We're going to look at each of
-
those Christ son. And Lord, three distinctions
-
that are being made here. So, we want to clarify right off
-
the bat. The Bible doesn't allow for us
-
to call Jesus a good guy, the Bible doesn't allow for us to
-
call Jesus a great teacher. The Bible does not allow for us
-
to merely call Jesus a religious leader.
-
There's, there's no opportunity for that.
-
I'm going to show you in John chapter 10.
John 10 chapter mention
-
I told you to go to Hebrews, but I lied.
-
Sorry. John chapter 10, verses, 27
John 10 chapter mention
-
through 33. My sheep hear my voice.
-
So he's talking to a crowd. He's talking to the Pharisees.
-
My sheep hear my voice. And I know them and they follow
-
me, I give them eternal life. If a human being speaks this
-
way, can we call this person? He's just a good moral teacher.
-
If he claims to give human to give other people eternal life,
-
can you just said yeah, I think he was a good guy will hang on a
-
second. He made some claims about
-
himself that you've got to deal with, because he said some
-
really bold things and you can't necessarily lump them into.
-
He was nice like, well, he said he gives people eternal life,
-
you got to do something with that.
-
Well I don't believe it ha fair enough, you've done something
-
with it but you haven't kidded yourself.
-
You haven't lied, me like It's just I'm going to set it aside.
-
There's no setting. Jesus aside he won't be set
-
aside. My sheep hear my voice.
-
And I know them and they follow me.
-
I give them eternal life and they will never perish and no
-
one will snatch them. Out of my hand, it's just a nice
-
guy, teacher with some new religious ideas.
-
He was just about love, right? That's what I've heard.
-
The enemies of Christ, teach me a lot about Christ, don't know
-
if you've noticed that in the world, people who don't love and
-
know God, they seem to be experts on social media anyway,
-
very vocal about what Jesus was all about.
-
No one can snatch them out of my hand.
-
My father who has given them to me, is greater than all and no
-
one is able to snatch them. Out of the father's hand, I and
-
the father are one. The Jews picked up stones to
-
Stone him, again, to Stone him. I like how it adds again, the
-
Jews picked up stones. Again, here we go to Stone him.
-
Jesus answered them. I love Jesus, sarcasm, and his
-
wit, and his insults. I've shown you many good works
-
from the father, for which of them.
-
Are you going to Stone me? They're all flustered.
-
No, no no. The Jews answer.
-
It's not pretty good work that we're going to Stone you but for
-
blasphemy because you being a man, make yourself.
-
What's the word god? You being a man?
-
You're making yourself God. They understood exactly what he
-
was claiming. He's going.
-
Yes, you get the point. You've heard me clearly.
-
The problem is you don't believe Jesus made himself God in their
-
ears. Has he already was God, he's
-
just coming as God revealed, but this is, this is why Christ was
-
crucified. He wasn't crucified, you don't
-
get crucified for nothing, he crucified for something for
-
telling the truth. So, he says, They said, we don't
-
we don't Stone you for any good work that you do.
-
We Stone you for blasphemy because you being a man, you
-
make yourself God. And that's the point.
-
Jesus didn't Jesus. Did make it clear that, that's
-
exactly who he was. I want to read you.
-
A quote from c.s. Lewis.
-
He said, I'm trying, he wrote this in his book, Mere
-
Christianity. I'm trying here to prevent
-
anyone saying, the really foolish thing that people often
-
say about him. And about Christ.
-
And that is I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher.
-
But I don't accept his claim to be God and now see us Louis
-
continues. He says this is one thing.
-
We must not say a man who is merely a man and said, the sort
-
of things that Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher.
-
He would either be a lunatic on the same level as a man who
-
says, he is a poached egg or or else he would be the devil of
-
help you. You must make your choice
-
either. This man was and is the Son of
-
God or else, he's a Madman or something worse.
-
You can shut him up as a fool, you can spit at him and kill him
-
as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and
-
God, but let us not come up with any patronizing, nonsense about
-
him. Being a great human teacher, he
-
has not left that open to us. He did not intend to This is
-
often called the trilemma is what?
-
It's been renamed. In recent years.
-
Jesus is, Lord, Jesus is a liar or Jesus is a lunatic but you
-
don't get to go. He's cool.
-
Like he's that wasn't really an option.
-
He says, if he says, if he makes a grand claim you gotta, he's
-
crazy. He thinks that about himself
-
bless his heart. He's a liar.
-
He knows that's not who he is, or he is who he says he is.
-
Well, I know who he is, but do you believe I believe?
-
In Jesus Christ. His only son our Lord.
-
So the Creed of firms. What God's word already teaches?
-
Jesus is Messiah ship. Jesus is sonship, and Jesus is
-
lordship. Jesus is the savior of the
-
world. Jesus is one with the Father and
-
Jesus is King over all. This is all good news.
-
Now, the problem is Jesus is only been taught as Savior in
-
our culture in our moment, that is most of the time, the
-
emphasis that's get that gets It's made.
-
Should that be emphasized? Well they all should all parts
-
of who he is, should be emphasized and be clearly
-
taught. Hey, and it's all good news.
-
There was no bad news in it, but the problem is when we extract
-
one of these and we don't emphasize them all together go.
-
He's a full, this is the full God, this is who he fully is,
-
then we've missed something important about his nature about
-
his character and about who he really is.
-
So this is why the Creed of firms Jesus Christ, that's the
-
savior. God's only son, he's one with
-
the father, he's our Lord that were Lord.
-
He means we're going to get into all of it.
-
He is first, he is preeminent. Why do I emphasizing lordship so
-
much? Because we fight where the fight
-
is, we need to emphasize where something is weak and we need to
-
strengthen it. Well, I feel like you're always.
-
You're always lifting weights to work out this muscle.
-
Yeah, because I'm super weak there.
-
I've got a weakness there. Well, you ought to do all this.
-
Why do all that too? But these other things are
-
actually pretty much in balance these, these other things.
-
They don't need a lot of Effort or, or they're
-
disproportionately, large in some cases, you know, like,
-
that's my problem, my muscles everywhere, they're just too
-
big, you know, it's an embarrassing issue.
-
I've had for a long time, I'm just that guy who's just to to
-
swallow, but but in some cases, we've got to make adjustments.
-
Go hang on a sec. You got to you got to build this
-
up. Well, well, I just want to Jesus
-
who's a savior. Well, you don't get to make him
-
in your, in your image. He is who he is and we have to
-
understand him fully we come to him and we don't bring him to us
-
and Andre reframe him and reshape him.
-
So to say, I believe in Jesus is to say, I believe in the real
-
Jesus, not a Jesus that I create with my own desires, but the
-
Jesus that the Bible reveals, that's the only Jesus.
-
And again, in the day and age we live in where, well, My Jesus
-
would never lie. Stop with whatever dumb thing is
-
about to come out of your mouth and just come back to the word
-
of God. My Jesus, there's one Jesus.
-
Well, he's my are good. But is your Jesus also the
-
Bible? Jesus.
-
Yep. Praise God.
-
Praise God. That's, that's the only way it
-
works. He's called the Cornerstone.
-
The Cornerstone is the stone. That was set the first stone.
-
And they said we're going to build the whole building based
-
off the orientation of this one stone.
-
We got this one. Lee set the way we want it.
-
And now, the whole rest of the building, the lines will be
-
drawn. Everything will come off of this
-
Stone. Everyone must be calibrated
-
according to the Cornerstone. That's what Christ is.
-
That's who he is. Are you in Hebrews, yet?
-
You've had plenty of time. I don't hear any excuses.
-
Hebrews chapter 1. Some people think Hebrews was a
Hebrews 1 chapter mention
-
letter, some people that Hebrews was a sermon, and you can kind
-
of see the argument for a, possibly being a sermon, because
-
it starts off with fire like right out of the gate, there's
-
no introduction. So, hey everybody.
-
I'm so, and so we don't know who wrote it.
-
Some people think Paul wrote it, some people think somebody else
-
wrote it. And you can see the argument for
-
a sermon here, we're going to just look at the first three
-
verses right now. Long ago at many times.
-
And in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets.
-
But in these last days, he has spoken to us by his son, whom he
-
appointed the heir of all things through whom.
-
He also created the world. He is the radiance of the glory
-
of God, and the exact imprint of his nature and he Jesus upholds,
-
the universe by the word of his power after making purification
-
for Sins. He sat down at the right hand of
-
the Majesty on high fat and fire you up, then you better wake up.
-
Jesus is being glorified here. Jesus is being.
-
There's a subtitle that's been put in my Bible it wouldn't it
-
wasn't there in the original writing but it says the
-
supremacy of God's son. God used to speak to us.
-
So Hebrews was written to Hebrews.
-
Good. Yes, there So Hebrews has
-
written to the Jewish people and the Jewish people they have
-
other Patriarchs that they look up to.
-
We're looking up to Moses. We're looking up to Abraham as
-
we as Christians do as well. We say, praise God for what
-
David did and for these men of God and how the Lord used them,
-
and how they were served and how they serve God, how they were
-
anointed by God, how they fulfilled his will.
-
So they're often looking at the Patriarchs, but as the Hebrews
-
as the letter of Hebrews of the sermon of Hebrews goes on, Jesus
-
is just can't it just swells. Starts on fire and it grows even
-
more to the point where he says, Jesus is far superior to Moses.
-
And this is the thing that the Jewish people are like, oh, hang
-
on a sec. He's going.
-
Hang on. You got to understand Jewish
-
Christians, Hebrews, who have come to Christ to know the
-
Messiah. The Messiah is not like, he's
-
like, Moses. He's like Abraham, no, no, he's
-
far superior. And the same way that the
-
builder of the house is superior to the house itself.
-
He's calling Moses. The house is going Abraham, the
-
house. But Jesus is the Builder.
-
He could tear a house down and build.
-
Another one, tomorrow, Jesus is the thing.
-
He's the Pinnacle. Uncle.
-
He's the one who's supreme, but you also see he's the exact
-
imprint of the father. That means he's just like the
-
father. He is one with the father and
-
yet he is distinct from the father.
-
He is not the father. Sounds like a Maury Povich line
-
there for a second. You Chris picked up one of the
-
same time. I did you are not the father.
-
So the kids like what's Maury Povich be glad you don't know.
-
So Jesus, the Father, the Holy Spirit, their one, God but they
-
are not, but they are not the same thing as one, another
-
separate persons distinct and roll.
-
This is one of many passages in the New Testament that shows
-
Jesus Is God, and Jesus is God's son.
-
We have God the Father Almighty and we have Jesus Christ God's
-
son. He says the father has spoken
-
through his servants and now he has spoken through his son.
-
One thing you notice though, when the son speaks, he doesn't
-
speak like all of the other prophets have spoken.
-
When the other prophets spoke, they always said.
-
The Lord says they would say. The word of the Lord is they
-
would say the spirit is saying, when the sun spoke, the son said
-
you've heard it said this way. But I say it this way, he spoke
-
with his own authority and they said he doesn't sound like
-
anybody else. We've heard before he speaks as
-
The one who has Authority. Now you're getting it.
-
Now you're catching on, he does have authority, he is supreme,
-
he is Ultimate. He says, I say to you, he speaks
-
with authority, because he has Authority, go to John chapter
John 14 chapter mention
-
14. We're going to look more at this
-
idea of his Unity with the father.
-
As the father's only son, as Jesus is deity, The Book of John
-
does a lot. There's much in the Book of
-
John, that shows the deity of Christ.
-
If there's one gospel, that doesn't more than any other to
-
be the Book of John from the beginning versus that we read
-
earlier in service to many other claims that Jesus makes
-
throughout it to when they want to Stone it were stoning.
-
You because you are saying your God, he's like, well, you're
-
right. That is what I'm saying, but
-
John chapter 14 and verse 6. Jesus said to him talking to his
John 14 chapter mention
-
disciples, I am the way, the truth and the life.
-
No one comes to the father, except through me.
-
If you had known me you would have known my father.
-
Also from now on you do know him and you have seen him Philip
-
said to him, Lord show us the father and it is enough for us.
-
Jesus said to him, have I been with you so long And you still
-
do not know me. Philip Whoever has seen me, has
-
seen the father. How can you say show us the
-
father? Do you not believe that I am in
-
the father? And the father is in me the
-
words I say to you do not speak. I do not speak on my own
-
authority but the father who dwells in me does his Works,
-
believe me, that I am in the father and the father is in me
-
or else believe on account of The Works themselves.
-
Believe Me, Jesus says if you've seen me, you've seen the father,
-
this is what Jesus does. He gives us the image of God,
-
man. What's God really like, could
-
anybody ever really know? Yes.
-
Yes. He's revealed himself through
-
his word. He's revealed himself through
-
his son, Jesus. And like we said last week some
-
people have this idea God the father's mad and Jesus is here
-
like get us on his good side. That is a misunderstanding.
-
That is not who God is that is not how he operates, Jesus
-
accomplishes and fulfills the will of the father.
-
And Jesus says, I only do what I see my father doing.
-
So, he saw his father Healing The Sick, he saw his father,
-
raising the dead, he saw his father blessing, the children,
-
he saw his father forgiving Sinners, the father's will and
-
Jesus is whether or not divided and the holy spirit's.
-
Well, they're not divided, God planned, this God ordained, this
-
from the foundations of the world.
-
Now there is a there is a unique way where Jesus is 33 years on
-
the earth. There was a unique role to That
-
there's something different happening.
-
There was a unique way that they were functioning they hadn't
-
function to before there's a unique way that they functioned
-
for that temporary season. But they were always one Jesus,
-
always maintained his God, status his deity.
-
But if you've seen me, you've seen the father, this is good
-
news. You can know exactly what God
-
is, like, because Jesus is God because Jesus reveals the father
-
because the Holy Spirit, glorifies Jesus, We see this
-
service, we see this love within the Trinity.
-
We see the father bringing leadership, we see even a
-
hierarchy not in, not in value, but we see rolls operating
-
within the Trinity is what we talked about in our sermon on
-
submission to women. Women have been lied to and told
-
that submission, is a burden, something and Christians, and
-
the world, certainly. But Christians, most of the time
-
in their heart of hearts believes that a wife submission
-
to her, husband is a punishment in a cruelty.
-
They believe that in their heart of hearts and it's false and
-
it's unbiblical. Well, it is a gift.
-
It is a blessing. Just like it was a gift and a
-
joy, and a blessing for Jesus to submit to the Father, and Jesus
-
did not become less in doing so he fulfilled his role, he
-
pleased, the Father and Jesus is glorified.
-
It pleased. The father to glorify Christ
-
through it. So they are co-equal.
-
They are Co eternal We'll keep going here and looking at Jesus,
-
as the imprints of the father, go to Colossians. flip towards
-
the, the back of your new testament, you're going to
-
Philippians and then Colossians Colossians chapter 1.
Colossians 1 chapter mention
-
What are we looking at today? I believe in Jesus Christ, his
-
only son. Our Lord.
-
We're still looking at the sonship of Christ.
-
We're mixing it all together, why?
-
But because he's a whole person, he doesn't exist in boxes.
-
He's one person and all of these things are true about him all
-
the time, Colossians 1:15. Again, I've got a heading here
-
in my Bible. It says the preeminence of
-
Christ verse 15. He is the image talking about
-
Jesus. He is the image of the
-
invisible. God God's invisible.
-
Nobody can see him, right? Except that God became visible
-
because he put himself in the image in Christ.
-
Jesus is the image of the invisible.
-
God, the firstborn of all creation.
-
For by him, all things were created in heaven and on Earth,
-
visible and invisible, whether Thrones, or dominions or rulers
-
or authorities. All things were created through
-
him. And for him, And he is before
-
all things, and in him all things, hold together.
-
And he is the head of that body, the church.
-
He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead that in
-
everything, he might be preeminent for in him.
-
All the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through
-
him, to reconcile to himself all things, whether on Earth or in
-
heaven May collapse. In Peace, by the blood of his
-
cross. Jesus is incredible.
-
He is the exact copy and the representation.
-
So the idea here that was being used this idea of imprinting,
-
the the mop, the early readers of this text.
-
They would have understood this to be just like a coin was made.
-
There's the original mold and then they've got the soft metal
-
that's getting ready to be pressed and the Press comes down
-
on it and the image of Caesar or whoever their current ruler was
-
was pressed into that coin. It's the Image.
-
It's not the mold itself but it's the exact image pressed
-
into it. You can see it identical.
-
If you got a coin in your pocket, you can see that can't.
-
There was a press somewhere. You like, I wonder what that
-
press really looks like. You know exactly what the Press
-
looks like, that's what the Press looks like.
-
Look at the coin and thankfully, unlike a coin.
-
Jesus doesn't wear off. He doesn't weaken, he doesn't
-
change. There's nothing temporary about
-
him. He is always strong.
-
He is always Eternal. He is always clear.
-
So he is the exact copy and the exact exact representation.
-
As we say, in the South, he's the spitting image.
-
So we can't see the original mold, but we know we do know
-
exactly what the original mold looks like Christ.
-
The Messiah is the image of God that Humanity can look at but
-
you should look at the whole Christ.
-
And this is my argument that a lot of times people look
-
exclusively at one part ago. He saved me from my sin, hang on
-
a second. You know, you know what that
-
means means, you have sinned and do you know that you have to
-
know more than knowing. Do you know the you have to
-
believe on. Jesus Christ.
-
Well yeah I like the Christ like to save your part.
-
Well you don't get one without the other.
-
You don't you don't get the Savior without also getting the
-
Lord. You don't get Jesus can't be
-
purchased in Parts, there's just Jesus, there's just the real
-
Jesus. The whole Jesus.
-
The only Jesus Natalie can't have like parts of husband and
-
not other parts. She's like I want like I like
-
the money thing. Like the the income thing like
-
big fan, big fan of that like the the other stuff.
-
If like nothing else, just like the money thing.
-
Well, that's not how you get me. Like, there's all of me.
-
I'll be the, I'll be the whole husband in every way, gladly all
-
the responsibilities, all the joys, everything all of it
-
together. But that's, that's that's what
-
you get. And that's good news by the way,
-
that's good news. But selfish person and immature
-
person according to a person goes, I just want this.
-
But that's because that person is just serving themself.
-
They actually, they actually don't want any responsibility.
-
It would be if Natalie would it. Take That point of view or if
-
your husband were to take that point of view, I'm just I'm
-
using, I'm just extracting Jesus.
-
You are useful to me because I'm Lorde.
-
And Lord I would never say it that way with my mouth, but I
-
would believe it with my heart, my life shows it my actions
-
reveal. What I believe always, it is an
-
inescapable truth fruit, always tells the truth of what's going
-
on inside and out of the Overflow of the heart, the mouth
-
will speak. So it will come out one way or
-
another, but I'm using jizo. He's super useful.
-
He can save me. You can like, do stuff for me.
-
I've taped, I like that part of Jesus.
-
Well, when I have a misunderstanding of who he is, I
-
didn't hold it against him when things don't go the way I
-
thought. Thought they were supposed to
-
the way that I heard that they should one time, because I don't
-
know the word of God and I actually don't know, Jesus.
-
I know a caricature of Jesus. I know, and I know a westernized
-
version of Jesus, but I don't know.
-
Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
-
I just know Jesus is the savior. Well, yeah, that's great news.
-
But the only thing that qualifies him to be the savior
-
is the fact that he is also Lord and the fact that he is the Son
-
of God, it's all together and it's all good news.
-
There's not one ounce of bad news anywhere in there.
-
It's all good news, why? Because Jesus is good.
-
Thank God, that God is good. If he wasn't, we wouldn't be
-
here to talk about him. So In this passage, we see Jesus
-
lordship. I love this passage, could you
-
see so much happening? You see all three things
-
happening, you see his lordship, you see his sonship and you see
-
his messiahship In this passage in Colossians 1:15 through 20.
-
So let's look at verse 15 will go one verse at a time here and
-
we're going to see each thing and verse 15.
-
We see sonship he is the image of the invisible.
-
God the firstborn of all creation.
-
That word firstborn has led to many misunderstandings.
-
Understandings and false teachings because people have
-
taken it to mean that Jesus is a created being fair enough at
-
first glance. But it's a, it's, it's a totally
-
incomplete reading of all of the Bible, right?
-
We can't just take. I like this verse.
-
I'm gonna build everything on it.
-
It's going to be on my coffee mug, in my refrigerator, and my
-
bumper sticker, hang a slow down.
-
There's more viable than one verse.
-
Are you saying that first isn't true?
-
I'm saying, we got to consider everything.
-
Let's make sure we're paying attention.
-
The whole Bible is true together.
-
Let's make sure we understand what's And what's being said?
-
So like my son's, my firstborn son, Elijah he there was a day,
-
he did not exist. There was a time when he didn't
-
exist anywhere except in the heart of God.
-
And then there came a time where he started to exist.
-
This is not the case with the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
He does not have a beginning date.
-
He did not start to exist at one time, he is eternal.
-
God, the father is eternal, Jesus is eternal, in the Holy
-
Spirit is eternal, Jesus does not have a beginning.
-
Well he has a beginning on Earth.
-
Yes. There was a time to about 2000's
-
years ago, when he was born of a virgin, but that was just him
-
God, the word of God becoming flesh like we read in John 1,
-
the word became flesh. Jesus is the word of God.
-
What was his form before? That the word of the father, it
-
seems to me. So the word of God became flesh
-
and now he has that glorified body forever.
-
That's how we think of him. So was he the first born?
-
Yes, he was the firstborn of the new creation as well.
-
Not that he was made into a new creation.
-
Ian because he was always him but he leads the way for
-
everybody who can now be born again.
-
So when he's talking about firstborn, there's two ideas
-
there that are trying to be communicated that the the
-
readers would have understood. It's not that he had a start
-
date, it's not that Christ started to exist.
-
The father's like I'd like a son.
-
Now I have a son and now he'll be God with me.
-
That's not what happened. Jesus the Eternal Word of God
-
was always with the father and the word became flesh.
-
But first born is not a reference to him being created
-
or and that's not even a reference to him being born on
-
Earth. It is a reference.
-
This award firstborn is referencing the power and the
-
position and the inheritance of the first born throughout the
-
ancient world, that's what's being referenced here.
-
So the first born is the one who gets the bulk of The
-
Inheritance, the firstborn gets the bulk of the Privileges.
-
The firstborn son is the one who is preeminent.
-
Among his brothers, and Jesus is preeminent amongst the church.
-
His brothers. Jesus is the firstborn in that
-
sense. Not that.
-
Had a beginning. But this reference is his power,
-
his position and his inheritance and it pleases, the father to
-
call him son in verse 16 for by him.
-
All things were created In heaven and on Earth visible and
-
invisible, whether Thrones, or dominions or rulers or
-
authorities. All things were created through
-
him. And for him, through him, and
-
for him, all things were created.
-
He lists every possible Authority that he could think
-
of, he's like rulers, dominions natural Supernatural, you name
-
it. Everything was made by Jesus.
-
For Jesus. What does that mean for
-
creation? What does that mean for every
-
single human that you and I know what does that mean for my life?
-
You exist everybody for the glory of Jesus.
-
That's it. Well I don't know if the
-
governor, I don't know if the president.
-
I'm not everybody exists for the pleasure of Jesus Christ.
-
There's no other purpose for anybody anywhere.
-
That is humbling. I'm not the tip of the spear.
-
I'm not the Pinnacle. I'm not the top of the mountain.
-
Jesus, is we exist for his glory.
-
That should draw us to worship. That's the drawers too.
-
It's almost feels like lordship. Welcome to the point.
-
God is God and you are not. And this is good news.
-
This means every ruler no matter no matter it which level the
-
three spheres that we've talked about.
-
So many times God is and God created these three different
-
spheres of rulership but they're all under the rulership of
-
Christ. The household, the church, the
-
civil government, which we often think of the civil government is
-
being Superior and the other two are parked underneath it.
-
That is not what God has done. They each have roles, and, and
-
purposes and distinct places. This means that every husband,
-
every father, Every Pastor, every president, every prime
-
minister, every official, every Angel, every Archangel, every
-
thrown every ruler was made for the pleasure glory and will of
-
Jesus Christ, they will submit to him like they were designed
-
to or the father will make them his footstool.
-
That's what he promises. Jesus, I'll make your enemies
-
your footstool. What's the advice, kiss?
-
The son? Lest he be angry at you?
-
Well, is he like that? Well, he's the savior of the
-
world but he's worthy of Glory. He knows who he is and he knows
-
what he's worth just because you don't doesn't mean he gets
-
confused, your confusion doesn't confuse him.
-
Your attempt to demote him won't demote him.
-
This is why the church has its role of telling the truth to the
-
world. The truth of God is to be told
-
to the world. Wasn't there supposed to be a
-
separation of church and state says who?
-
Who do you think would have said that?
-
I don't let's go back to the Bible.
-
Everything was created through him and everything was created
-
for him. So now should I go ask the
-
creation? What creation thinks we ought to
-
do about obeying him who created it for him?
-
This is like extra level special kind of stupid.
-
It's bizarre. But it's not just stupid.
-
It's disbelief. It's not about stupidity.
-
It's disbelief, makes you stupid.
-
Disbelief makes me stupid. Pastor Ken says, it simply one
-
of my favorite lines of his egos send makes you stupid and it's
-
true, and unbelief is a sin. But this, this should fill us
-
with courage and our role as the church.
-
What's the role of the church? The church is the Pillar of
-
Truth in the world. That's the responsibility of the
-
Church of Jesus Christ is the church supposed to execute
-
Killers. Nope, that's not the role of the
-
church that Authority. The authority to kill and take
-
human life. The lord gave to the Civil
-
Authorities to the civil magistrate, God gave that to the
-
government said, I want you to punish Is righteous to punish
-
they do that. Unfortunately.
-
And their wickedness, I want you to punish the unrighteous and
-
reward the righteous. That's your role so they can go
-
we'll put a speed limit in place.
-
That's fine. That's a love your neighbor kind
-
of law. That's good.
-
We're going to put some things in place.
-
A lot of times they overstep though in our context, the
-
government is massive and people don't even recognize it.
-
People don't even think about it.
-
Is this, an anti-government message?
-
Absolutely, not the government is on.
-
Jesus is shoulder, though. I'm all about government, Jesus
-
is built and established. It's all for him.
-
So should there be a separation of church and state?
-
Well, yes, in the sense that the church should not be the state.
-
And, and I don't think that the Church of Jesus Christ that the
-
elders, the pastor should be running all civil governments,
-
but all civil governments should be submitted to the will of
-
Jesus Christ. So if you want to have a
-
separation of church and state, I guess, technically I can agree
-
but there should never be separation from church from from
-
State and God their God. God is connected to church, God
-
is connected to State, God is connected to household, there is
-
no other option, the laws will be made and there's no such
-
thing as a neutral. Law law will always be pulling
-
in One Direction or another depending on who the lawmakers
-
are. And all lawmakers should submit
-
and bend the knee to the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
Well, we don't agree with that. Well, who are you?
-
Are you? The Lord Jesus Christ because he
-
made everything every ruler, and every Authority.
-
Well, I don't believe that. Well, that's where you're wrong.
-
This is simple stuff but the church shouldn't back up.
-
You shouldn't let courage. Why?
-
Because you should be about Jesus Glory.
-
So you should be jealous for his glory, not for our Glory.
-
But for his glory, you should be jealous for your Lord's.
-
Glory. You should be eager to please
-
your lord to the to tell the truth.
-
Because that's the role of the church to be the pillow, the
-
truth and the Earth and say, hey this is good, this is right,
-
this is wrong. Well we can't allow the church
-
to make the law. No we're not the lawmakers,
-
that's the government's role. Roll.
-
But when you're off, we must instruct you.
-
That's the role of the church to call righteousness and to call
-
evil. And to say, hang on guys, you
-
made a mistake there. You made a mistake there because
-
God's word declares this. Well, we want separation of
-
church and state But you can't be separate from God because
-
he's the one who established you.
-
He's the one who's giving you your instruction, otherwise you
-
just think you're a bunch of mammals who are making laws
-
based on your own preferences and brain chemistry.
-
Which again, disbelief leads to all sorts of foolishness, all
-
sorts of sin, all sorts of Brokenness.
-
But God is about human flourishing and God is about
-
God's glory. There's a fable a tale that is
-
told about a ship who was plowing through the Seas, one
-
night, a a destroyer. It goes like this plowing
-
through the see one rough night over foggy Seas.
-
A destroyers radar, suddenly indicates, an object directly in
-
its path. The captain sends a radio
-
signal, we're on a collision course.
-
We advise you to change course 10 degrees.
-
North a response comes back and crackles over the radio - we
-
advise you to change course 10 degrees, north 10 Degrees, South
-
the captain can now see this blinking light from the
-
approaching object perturbed? He Bells reply I'm a ship's.
-
Captain change the course, 10 degrees north now.
-
The reply comes. I'm a seaman second class.
-
Advise you change course, 10 Degrees South to avoid imminent.
-
Collision. The captain is now Furious he
-
blurts another command. This is a destroyer of the
-
United States Navy change. Your course immediately back
-
comes the reply. This is a lighthouse I'm not
-
moving. I won't move.
-
I can't move. Welcome to Jesus.
-
The Cornerstone. You will adapt to him, or you'll
-
be crushed by him or you'll be his footstool.
-
The lighthouse doesn't move the times are changing fools.
-
Will say, I agree, times, literally changing every second
-
great point, but the lighthouse still hasn't moved.
-
And this is good news because, you know what a lighthouse does.
-
The lighthouse, doesn't just get in your way and go, oh, not
-
moving. On the White House.
-
The White House says, I'm here to shine light.
-
I'm here to give you Direction and I'm here to protect you from
-
your own destruction. That's what a lighthouse does.
-
This is the good news of Jesus. He's the Savior.
-
Right. Absolutely.
-
He's the Savior and he's Lord, and He won't move and you won't
-
move him. He's strong, he's worthy.
-
He knows who he is. Do you know who, He is is always
-
the question. Who do you say that?
-
I am Peter. Who do you say that?
-
I am. That's the question that
-
everybody has to answer. I don't get to answer it off.
-
My Mom and Dad's Faith. You don't get answered off a
-
Pastor James, faith. I won't stand before you before
-
the king of glory. I'll be trembling all by myself
-
before him. My children won't be good to go
-
but Daddy. But mommy though go the king of
-
glory. Should that be a scary moment?
-
I'm gonna throw myself again under the blood, the blood, I
-
plead the blood of Jesus and the father smiles and goes of course
-
of course there's no other there's nothing else, you can't
-
plead not guilty. But you can plead the blood.
-
Jesus is the light house and this is good news.
-
Let's keep looking here to see more about his lordship verse 17
-
and he is before all things. And in him all things, hold
-
together. He is the head of the body, the
-
church. He is the beginning the
-
firstborn from the dead that in everything, he might be
-
preeminent. There were preeminent, it just
-
means first first among first among first.
-
What do you mean by that? Yes, first Above and beyond
-
everybody so you can joyfully not with anger.
-
But joyfully tell the whole world that Jesus is, first Jesus
-
is Lord, Jesus is Savior. Jesus Is God, give them the
-
whole picture of this good and perfect?
-
God, tell them the truth. You don't have to stay back and
-
conversations. You don't have to hide your
-
well, some people don't believe that, right?
-
Which is why you're here church so that they may believe so that
-
they can be saved because God loves them, this Is God's plan
-
to rescue the world through his son?
-
This is the good news. This is what verse 20 goes on to
-
tell us as we see more about the messiahship.
-
This is the side that I said, sometimes we are too.
-
We just go. He's just my savior.
-
He's just my save. You just say use me.
-
All he ever does is save me well and he's worthy, right?
-
Well, he saves me but verse 20 and 4 sizes.
-
Yes, he's the savior. And through him.
-
Sorry, I'll pick back in verse 18, will connect it all and he
-
is the head of the body, the church he is the beginning the
-
firstborn from the dead that in everything he might be
-
preeminent. So right now you're going to
-
save me from the Wrath of the Lamb, hang on for in him.
-
All the fullness of God was pleased to dwell ah save me from
-
the Wrath of the Lamb, hang on, and through him, to reconcile to
-
himself all things, whether on On Earth or in heaven, Making
-
Peace by the blood of his cross. Are you kidding me?
-
I was getting really scared. Yeah.
-
But you don't have to be afraid of him.
-
Although you should fear Him, you take coverage in him.
-
He is your protection. He's your salvation, but don't
-
get me wrong, you don't want to run your shipping to him.
-
But if you will, but he will serve you.
-
Well, as a lighthouse, if you'll take his direction and you will
-
adjust course, if you will just korth go south 10 degrees or in
-
our case is, all of us needed to turn 180 degrees in Repentance.
-
If you will adjust course because the lighthouse has, hey
-
I got you. I'm protecting you, I'm looking
-
out for you because I love you, he makes peace.
-
How does he make peace does Jesus make peace by destroying
-
his enemies. Eventually, he will destroy his
-
enemies as we've talked about and seen, but but that's not how
-
he's made peace between us and himself.
-
He makes Peace by the blood of his cross.
-
He takes the hit. Jesus Takes the penalty, Jesus
-
Takes the suffering, he makes peace not by killing his
-
enemies, but Jesus makes Peace by giving himself to be killed.
-
What kind of God is this? This is the god that we say I
-
believe this is what we mean when we say I believe, let's
-
keep reading it gets better and through him to reconcile to
-
himself. All things verse 20, whether on
-
Earth or in heaven, Making Peace by the blood of his cross first
-
21, and you who were once alienated and hostile in mind
-
doing evil Deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of Flesh
-
by his death. In order to present you, he's
-
taking you and he sang father. I have someone to present to you
-
to present you, holy and blameless and above reproach
-
before him if you indeed. Continue in the faith, stable
-
and steadfast not shifting. From the hope of the Gospel that
-
you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under
-
heaven, and of which I poll became a minister Wow, Jesus
-
Christ. God's his only son our Lord.
-
So when we say, I believe in Jesus Christ, that's what we're
-
saying. Jesus Christ is the savior.
-
He is made the way he's reconciled me with God.
-
I've been made right? My accounts.
-
I was way in debt. The banking reconciliation is a
-
financial term that was used. I was in debt.
-
I owed a lot of money, Christ reconcile the account.
-
How did he pay for it with his own money?
-
But much more precious than that with his own blood.
-
That's Jesus Christ. God's only son.
-
We're saying he's one with the Father and Jesus Is God and our
-
Lord. He's pre-eminent there's no
-
other way to put it. He's first first in every in
-
every comparison you can think of every this is why every knee
-
will bow every tongue will confess.
-
Blessed are those who do it now Let's stand together and read
-
the Creed. Ready.
-
Let's begin. I believe in God, the Father
-
Almighty creator of Heaven and Earth.
-
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son our Lord, who was
-
conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
-
He suffered under Pontius Pilate was crucified died and was
-
buried. He descended to Hell.
-
The third day. He rose again from the dead.
-
He ascended to heaven. And is seated at the right hand.
-
Hand of God, the Father Almighty from there, he will come to
-
judge the living and the dead, I believe in the Holy Spirit, the
-
Holy Catholic Church. The communion of saints, the
-
Forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the
-
life Everlasting. Amen.
-
God we love you and we submit to you.
-
It is our joy. We're thankful that you are the
-
White House. It points out the Rocks.
-
You keep us safe. You keep us in the perfect
-
Waters in the calm. Others and you calm the storms,
-
even around us in your kindness as a messiah as a savior, as the
-
Christ. You're the son, who is worthy of
-
all the inheritance? As you have poured out your
-
life, as you have obeyed, the will of the father.
-
You're so deserving, you're so worthy is our privilege and
-
honor to serve you and as Lord we submit to you we defer to
-
you. You are preeminent.
-
You are first. And all this is good and we
-
thank you for it. God in Jesus name.
-
And now the Lord bless you and keep you the Lord, make his face
-
shine down upon you and be gracious to you.
-
The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you great.
-
Peace in Jesus name. Amen.
