  1. We're going to continue now. Our series, The Apostles Creed

  2. You can turn in your Bible to John chapter 18.

    John 18 chapter mention

  3. So we've been using the Apostles Creed to study, the Bible, the

  4. Apostles Creed is not the Bible. It's not equal to the Bible, but

  5. the Apostles Creed is useful. The Apostles, Creed is something

  6. that the church has been using for roughly two roughly 1500

  7. years to say, hey, let's clarify Doctrine.

  8. Let's make sure that we can focus on the things that matter.

  9. Most, the things that are most essential, you can't reduce, you

  10. can't take anything out of the Apostles Creed and still have

  11. solid Christian doctrine. Everything that's there, is

  12. there for a purpose. Is there is there for a reason?

  13. You can't go well that one doesn't really matter.

  14. No, we boiled it down till we got to the essence of it.

  15. Could you add things on? Could you add other doctrines?

  16. And we're Christians could disagree.

  17. Most certainly, there's lots of Freedom there but we've got the

  18. Apostles Creed as a way to say, hey this is the central thing

  19. and this is good because we can unify around that Christians are

  20. known for according to the word of God.

  21. For our Unity. You might be surprised to hear

  22. that. Sometimes it would seem like

  23. that's not the case, but Unity is the thing that we got going

  24. for us because we're Unified I'd around the name of Jesus where

  25. unified, and we glorify the name of Jesus above everything else

  26. Beyond everything else. He is what we come together on.

  27. So these core doctrines helped us to see what's true, what's

  28. good? What's vital, what's most

  29. important? So if you have a copy of the

  30. Creed with you, we passed some out.

  31. If everybody got one great, if you didn't get one, that's okay.

  32. But we're going to read through the Creed together, ready?

  33. I believe in God, the Father Almighty creator of Heaven and

  34. Earth, Believe in Jesus Christ, his only son our Lord, who was

  35. conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

  36. He suffered under Pontius Pilate was crucified died and was

  37. buried. He descended to Hell.

  38. The third day. He rose from the dead.

  39. He ascended to heaven. And is seated.

  40. At the right hand of God, the Father Almighty from there.

  41. He will come to judge the living and the dead, I believe in.

  42. The Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion

  43. of saints, the Forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the

  44. body and the life Everlasting. Amen.

  45. So the Apostles Creed starts with I believe and then two more

  46. times in the Creed I believe we've highlighted different

  47. things today specifically we're focusing on the section about I

  48. believe in Jesus Christ. His only son our Lord but

  49. specifically we're looking at he suffered under Pontius Pilate

  50. was crucified. If I'd died and was buried and

  51. that's where we're going to the word today.

  52. So John chapter 18, if you're there we're going to look in

    John 18 chapter mention

  53. verse 33. We're going to read a large

  54. portion. We're going to go into vert into

  55. chapter 19, as well. So stay with me.

  56. Steal your mind. John 1833.

  57. So pilate entered his headquarters again, quick

  58. context Jesus has been arrested. He was arrested last night.

  59. Now, it's early morning. They're doing all of this

  60. quickly before the city wakes up.

  61. They don't want the people to rise up.

  62. They want to move things along. So the Jewish leadership is

  63. going to Pilot pilot says y'all got some enter Jewish thing

  64. going on, I don't like this. You go take him to Herod Herod.

  65. Beach Jesus mocks, Jesus sends him back to pilate, sends him

  66. back to here. It sends him back to pilate, and

  67. now he's back to pilate again. All is nonsense has happened in

  68. the night unjust. Unfair obviously, there's no

  69. legitimate accusations against the only innocent human being to

  70. ever live the God man. Jesus Christ.

  71. And so now he's with pilot again.

  72. So pilate entered his headquarters again and called

  73. Jesus and said to him. Are you the king of the Jews?

  74. Jesus answered. Do you say Of your own accord or

  75. did others say it to you about me?

  76. Pilate answered am IA Jew, your own nation and the chief priests

  77. have delivered you over to me. What have you done?

  78. Jesus answered. My kingdom is not of this world.

  79. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have

  80. been fighting that. I might not be delivered over to

  81. the Jews, but my kingdom is not from the world then pilate said

  82. to him. So you are a King, Jesus

  83. answered. You say that, I'm a king for

  84. this purpose. I was born and for this purpose

  85. I have come into the world to Bear witness to the truth

  86. everyone who listens to the truth, listens to my voice and

  87. pilate said to him what is truth?

  88. Unfortunately pilot admits that sermon Jesus had said that

  89. before I am the truth is what Jesus said.

  90. There's times where it's right here.

  91. He talks about revealing the truth.

  92. He says I came to bear witness to the truth but earlier he's

  93. Vide. I am the truth.

  94. This is the distinct claim of Jesus.

  95. Is what we said before, you've got to reconcile with Jesus, you

  96. can't just go. Jesus was a good man.

  97. No, he wasn't. He wasn't just a good man.

  98. He said, I am the truth. Unlike every other false

  99. religion that leader of those religions said, hey, I found the

  100. truth everybody, I found it. Come look, Come See, Come listen

  101. Jesus doesn't say hey I found it.

  102. Everybody come check it out. Jesus says I am It when someone

  103. makes that claim you have to do something with that man, you

  104. have to say he's a liar. He hasn't he's not the truth.

  105. You have to say he's crazy bless his heart.

  106. He thinks he's the truth or you have to say he's Lord and He is

  107. the truth. Pick.

  108. Well, I refuse to pick. Well, then you still picked.

  109. You've rejected him in some way, shape or form.

  110. But you've got to reconcile. If I said I'm a poached egg, you

  111. got to do something with that. John Michaels a liar, he knows

  112. he's not a poached egg or John Michaels crazy bless his heart.

  113. He thinks he's a poached egg or you might say, Behold a poached

  114. egg, but, but you've got a cast your vote.

  115. When I, when I make that claim, there's something you got to do

  116. with that. You can't just go out, you know,

  117. John Michaels a decent guy. John Michaels a moron.

  118. Okay. That's you.

  119. It's okay to say that. It's okay to tell the truth.

  120. It's right to tell the truth pilot says, what is truth.

  121. The truth is staring him in the face.

  122. Just like the truth had been staring the Jewish leaders in

  123. the face after he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews

  124. and told them, I find no guilt in him, but you have a custom

  125. that I should release one man for you at Passover.

  126. So the Roman rulers oppressing, the Jews.

  127. Use every year, the Romans just as a as a kindness as a way to

  128. pacify, the people that they were ruthlessly dominating, they

  129. would say, we'll give you back one of your criminals every

  130. year, someone that we've arrested.

  131. So Pilots saying I'll use this to get Jesus free because

  132. Pilot's Wife, by the way, it had a dream in the middle of the

  133. night where the Lord warned her to warn pilot to say, have

  134. nothing to do with this man's death.

  135. So she's begging her husband. Don't do anything with this

  136. Jesus guy, so he knows stuff is up.

  137. He knows something Supernatural. Is gone.

  138. Jesus. Is the only man who's ever stood

  139. in front of pilate and not been intimidated by Pilot and Jesus

  140. going Pilots going. Hey, man.

  141. Don't you know who I am? Jesus Kwon.

  142. Do you know who I am? That's my breath.

  143. That you're breathing. By the way.

  144. I find no guilt in him, but you have a custom that I should

  145. release one man for you at the Passover.

  146. So do you want me to release the king of the Jews?

  147. They cried out again. Not this man.

  148. But Barabbas now Barabbas was a robber.

  149. Another gospel tells us. He was a robber and Murderer.

  150. So, you turn to your neighbor right now and say I'm Barabbas.

  151. It's me. This is us like oh this filthy

  152. awful dot. Yeah.

  153. Welcome to looking in the mirror.

  154. This is what we're about to see this Beautiful Exchange yet

  155. again. The innocent man goes down so

  156. that Barabbas goes free. That's not just no it's not but

  157. thankfully Jesus chose it, he called for it 19:1, then pilate

  158. took Jesus and flogged. Him one, simple word, it's hard

  159. to encapsulate all the suffering that took place in it.

  160. The Your tells us though that the beating and flogging in the

  161. things they did to Jesus, he was so savagely beaten that.

  162. By the time he gets to the Cross, you can't tell that it's

  163. a human being hanging on the cross.

  164. A flogging involved. The Ripping of human skin off of

  165. a human's back. So you're being flayed alive,

  166. and the Romans are really good at their job.

  167. They had mastered the art and they had mastered the art of

  168. crucifixion. They had mastered the art of

  169. Torment. It was the best that humans

  170. could come up with. With so that people could suffer

  171. in the most agonizing ways possible.

  172. This is what the crucifixion was going to be about in a couple of

  173. hours for him as well. The reason they would nail your

  174. hands and your feet is because eventually as you sag and sag

  175. and sag on the cross, the only way to get a fresh breath

  176. because the way breathing happens of course is the vacuum

  177. of your lungs. The vacuum that your that your

  178. ribs create is a expand, you have to press off of your feet

  179. so you have to stand up to capture the next breath.

  180. Only to Sag again for a moment of rest to try and bring relief

  181. in, even out the pains between your hands and Your feet trying

  182. to Just Bounce. It's time to breathe again and

  183. you have to stand up again with the rod of iron that's shoved

  184. through your feet. Why are you talking about this?

  185. Because he suffered under Pontius Pilate, he was

  186. crucified, he died and he was buried.

  187. They flogged him in the soldiers Twisted together, a crown of

  188. thorns, and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple

  189. robe. And they came up to him saying

  190. hail King of the Jews and they struck him with their hands, the

  191. mocking the insults, if they probably got him to themselves

  192. for a bit. I mean, there's all this

  193. transition stuff that's happening.

  194. You got a bunch of brutes. These guys have killed, a lot of

  195. people. They've done a lot of wicked,

  196. wicked things, Two Men, and two women.

  197. And this is, this is just who they are, this is what a Roman

  198. soldier would do another go, what some some Jewish guy.

  199. What are we beating him for? I don't know.

  200. But let's beat him because we're Wicked, they put a crown of

  201. thorns on his head. Remember where did Thorns come

  202. from? Thorns are part of the curse.

  203. So this isn't just another torture device but it's all

  204. representing. What Jesus is taking away, he's

  205. removing the curse, he's breaking the curse, it will

  206. fully be done eventually. But still, he's taking the crown

  207. of thorns, the Thorns that come because of Adam, Us in Jesus

  208. says, you've been avoiding Thorns.

  209. He says, I'm going to bring them onto my own head.

  210. The Curse Of God is coming on to Jesus.

  211. Head, is what we're to see here, God's penalty, for all of

  212. humanity sin, for Barabbas Asim for John Michaels, Sim

  213. Somebody's gotta pay. But God says, I don't want to

  214. crush John Michael and give him what he deserves.

  215. I love him. So I'll go, I'll be the one.

  216. This is the significance of Jesus coming.

  217. Jesus, the God man coming to take the penalty for our sins,

  218. pilate went out again and said to them.

  219. See I'm bringing him out to you so that you may know, I find no

  220. guilt in him. So at this point, Jesus has the

  221. robe on him. The crown of thorns staggering

  222. from the massive blood loss, from The Savage beating.

  223. He's taken He came out wearing the crown of thorns and the

  224. purple robe. Pilate said to him, behold the

  225. man Pilots, like, please let me get away with not killing this

  226. guy. I was told, I know I'm not

  227. supposed to kill him. It's not that Pilots, a gentle

  228. person by any means. Don't get the wrong idea, is not

  229. a man of great compassion, but it's a man who's looking out for

  230. his own. Neck is a man who's paying

  231. attention to his own? Well, being a typical

  232. politician. What's best for me is, what's

  233. best was his viewpoint, but the chief priests and the officers

  234. saw him. And they cried out.

  235. Crucify him, crucify him pilate said to them take him yourselves

  236. and crucify him for, I find no guilt in him, the Jews answered

  237. him. They said we know better, we're

  238. not allowed to kill anybody. Only the Romans are we have a

  239. law and according to that law, he ought to die because he has

  240. made himself the Son of God. When pilate heard this

  241. statement, he was even more afraid.

  242. He entered his headquarters again and said to Jesus.

  243. Where are you from? But Jesus gave him, no answer.

  244. So pilate said to him, you won't speak to me, do you not know

  245. that I have the authority to release you and the authority to

  246. crucify? You and now?

  247. Jesus speaks. Because he has to bring

  248. correction to a misunderstanding here.

  249. You would have no authority over me, unless it had been given to

  250. you from above Pilot has never been spoken to this with before

  251. Pilate, usually has people begging for their lives.

  252. Crucifixion was a horrific way to die and everybody in Roman

  253. World knew it the Romans crucified thousands and

  254. thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of

  255. people during their reign. They would make you carry your

  256. own cross to the place of your crucifixion with horror with

  257. trembling with fear. And meanwhile they're beating

  258. you because you don't want to go but you but this pain behind you

  259. and eventually they'll Lead you all the way to the Cross where

  260. eventually they force you down, they pin you down, they pin you

  261. to the Cross, you've been stripped naked long ago.

  262. And now you're hanging on the roadside.

  263. They would put the crew, the crucifix is along the roadside

  264. so that every traveler just going about your day.

  265. With your wife, with your children, with your family.

  266. You're seeing people suffering and dying calling out.

  267. Please come, please give me water.

  268. Please help me as they've been defecating and urinating on

  269. themselves. Shamed, humiliated broken, its

  270. Savage Savage. The Romans did that to

  271. intimidate to show you, rise up against Rome, this is what you

  272. can expect. Jesus wanted pilot to

  273. understand, you have no Authority, except the authority.

  274. That's been given to you. We talked about this often

  275. because it's important, God's Authority is the only Authority.

  276. Every other authority has been delegated from God in the hole,

  277. three spheres, the sphere of the household, that's God's

  278. Authority delegated to a husband.

  279. And father, it's not just his own, I have authority and I have

  280. power says who. Well, it comes from the Lord for

  281. a purpose to bless, to love to serve to protect like the lord,

  282. loves his people. People the same thing in the

  283. church, I'm the pastor. I have the power and authority.

  284. Well, yeah, to what end to what purpose to represent the love of

  285. the father to care for the flock of Jesus that Authority comes

  286. from somewhere, the government, the almighty government right

  287. now, they surely there's Supreme right?

  288. Not at all. Christ is Lord.

  289. The government is to bend the knee to the Lord Jesus.

  290. I thought there was supposed to be a separation between church

  291. and state. I wonder who made that up.

  292. I bet it was the state. So, Truth is Jesus is Lord over

  293. everybody and everything. Everything should go his way

  294. according to his will Jesus is revealing to Pilot pilot.

  295. I'm not the called in your wheel, buddy.

  296. You're the called in mind. I'm not a I'm not I'm not

  297. rolling along with your game today, you're playing your

  298. point, you're taking your role in mind.

  299. I have ordained this moment. I preordained I predestined that

  300. I would be here. I put Put myself here you have

  301. no authority over me. Unless it has been given to you

  302. from above. Therefore, he who delivered me

  303. over to you has the greater sin. He's giving him a little bit of

  304. comfort. Oh, you have SIM for sure, but

  305. there was a greater, some may have heard it.

  306. Said before, my Bible says, Sin is Sin, that's not true.

  307. But the Bible is very clear that there's a spectrum to sin,

  308. right? We know this like Common Sense.

  309. Natural law would tell you that we understand that the

  310. punishment should fit the crime all sin.

  311. Makes us guilty, of course, before the Lord, but all sin is

  312. not created equally and we know that we know that when we're

  313. sending against, I can't believe you said that.

  314. That's what that hurt a little bit.

  315. That's different from cutting off my arm, right?

  316. Or you know, where chaining me in the basement, like a serial

  317. killer, like this is different. There's a, there's a, there's a

  318. spectrum here. One of these things is not like

  319. the other So he who delivered you over to me, he is he has the

  320. greater Sin from then on pilot sought to release him but the

  321. Jews cried out. If you release this man, you are

  322. not Caesars friend. The Jewish leaders knew what

  323. they were doing. There are saying Island.

  324. We're going to tell Will tattle to Caesar if you don't do right.

  325. We know you don't want no uprisings of Jews around here.

  326. So this is an issue that's important to us.

  327. You're going to give us this. You're going to kill this man

  328. today. You're going to crucify him will

  329. manipulate you A pressure, you will insinuate you're no friend

  330. to Caesar. So when pilate heard these

  331. words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the Judgment seat in

  332. the place called The Stone pavement and Aramaic.

  333. It was gabbatha. Now, it was the day of

  334. preparation of the Passover. It was about the sixth hour, he

  335. said to the Jews, behold your king away with him away with

  336. him, crucify. Him pilate said, to them, shall

  337. I crucify your king and the chief priests answered.

  338. We have no King but Caesar hoof. What a what a name.

  339. B meant they just put on themselves.

  340. Those are words that they would have to answer for to the king

  341. himself. We have no King but Caesar,

  342. Church we say, just the opposite.

  343. This is part of the Kree. This is part of the strength of

  344. having something like the Apostles Creed why?

  345. Because to say, that Jesus is Lord, is to say that no one else

  346. is. This is why Christians were

  347. regularly crucified because they wouldn't offer their bit of

  348. incense to the gods because they wouldn't bend the knee.

  349. They would say, hey, we'll honor Caesar will obey the laws.

  350. We're going to be the best citizens this nation has ever

  351. had. Which is what Christians will

  352. do. Christians will be the best

  353. citizens any country's ever had. Except where it would conflict

  354. with the one who's actually Lord over you, who think your lures

  355. and that'll get you thrown to the Lions or that'll get or

  356. nowadays in our modern culture. Won't get you thrown to the

  357. Lions and we get your Instagram canceled, it'll get your

  358. employer called. It'll get you fired.

  359. Not the same though, right? Being thrown two lines, would be

  360. worse, we could agree. You know, there's a spectrum

  361. here. But still to say that Jesus is

  362. Lord, is to say that nobody else is.

  363. We have no King, but Caesar, they claim, so he did.

  364. So he delivered him over to be crucified and they took Jesus

  365. and he went out bearing his own cross to the place called the

  366. skull in which in Aramaic is called Golgotha and there, they

  367. crucified him with two others, one on either side and Jesus

  368. between them. So they had a couple other

  369. people who are actually guilty and needed to die that day and

  370. pilate wrote an inscription, and put it on the cross and it read

  371. Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.

  372. So it was this war between pilate and the Jews.

  373. I was like Pilots trying to get himself out of it as much as

  374. possible. He did the he washed his hands,

  375. like, somehow God's gonna go. Oh, you use water to wash your

  376. hands, you're no longer guilty of the death of my son, but he

  377. was doing everything he could to say, hey, I didn't want to do

  378. this. So many of the Jews read the

  379. inscription, where piloted put Jesus of Nazareth, King of the

  380. Jews and they saw, he was crucified near the city was

  381. written in Aramaic and Latin and in Greek.

  382. So the chief Priests of the Jews said to pilate, do not write the

  383. king of the Jews but rather right.

  384. This man said that, I am the king of the Jews, pilate

  385. answered what I have written. I have written when the soldiers

  386. had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them

  387. into four parts. With each different soldiers

  388. also his tunic but the tunic was seamless woven in one.

  389. He's from top to bottom so they said to one another, let us not

  390. tear it but let us cast lots. For it to see whose it shall be.

  391. This was to fill to fulfill the scripture which says they

  392. divided my garments among them. And for my clothing, they cast

  393. lots the suffering of Jesus, he suffered under Pontius Pilate,

  394. he was crucified, he died, and he was buried.

  395. What do we see here? We see that Jesus suffered in

  396. every way, physically, mentally, spiritually, and in doing so,

  397. Jesus fulfilled. All of the over 300 prophecies

  398. that have been made about him. Just through just through the

  399. mathematical computations that they've made.

  400. It's an astronomical impossibility to be able to

  401. accomplish all the things that Christ accomplished and yet, of

  402. course he did it because he is the Messiah that has been

  403. prophesied about for the ages to ages passed before he came.

  404. The Messiah is going to do this. He's going to do this.

  405. He's going to do this. Jesus did it all.

  406. Why do we say suffered under Pontius Pilate?

  407. It's kind of weird that Pilots name gets to make it into the

  408. cree. Right?

  409. Is he that big of a deal? Well, this is just a point where

  410. the church is making making on the fact that this happened in

  411. time. And in space, this isn't a myth,

  412. this isn't a story, no Pontius Pilate that that Roman ruler.

  413. He was the one. This is the one he was.

  414. This is the who the priest was here is who the Roman ruler was

  415. Pontius. Pilate was the one who crucified

  416. Christ they wanted to make it plain, especially at the time

  417. when the Creed was written, the idea was like, Hey everybody,

  418. this isn't just some mythical story, you know, sometimes

  419. preachers will tell or he's we get into it.

  420. Really. So there was this lady and her

  421. mom and you're like, oh, you don't know if it's a true story

  422. or not, you know, you just got like okay, it'll be an analogy,

  423. it'll be a metaphor, it'll be helpful.

  424. That's not what that's not what the Creed is seeking to do at

  425. all the curry is going. Hey, this literally happened,

  426. just so everybody knows, this is what the calendar is built on.

  427. Like Christ's death is where the calendar a Justice is.

  428. Okay, From This Moment forward, we will now measure Time by God

  429. by the Lord himself coming and joining us.

  430. So he suffered under Pontius Pilate.

  431. He was crucified, he died and he was buried.

  432. We're going to look at some of the prophecy that was made of

  433. him. I'm going to have you go to

  434. Isaiah 53. Isaiah 53, verses 3 through 12

    Isaiah 53:3–12

  435. is what I'm going to read to you, for he grew up.

  436. This is prophecy about Christ. He grew up like a young plant,

  437. like a root out of dry ground. He had no form of or Majesty

  438. that we should look at him. No beauty that, we should desire

  439. him. What's that mean?

  440. It means that there was nothing unique about Jesus.

  441. You would look at that guy. Walking on the road.

  442. Go! Whoa!

  443. Look at that guy. There was nothing to him apart

  444. from. Like there's another guy.

  445. He get lost in a crowd before his Tree before his popularity.

  446. Grew is just yeah, that's Jesus. He lives there, someone still

  447. lives there. Some solos there.

  448. He's just a guy, there's nothing about him.

  449. You go. Wow.

  450. Like look at those muscles, there's nothing about her.

  451. Like wow. He's the most handsome man I've

  452. ever seen is nothing about him. Like he's so rich.

  453. There's nothing about in those. He's so powerful.

  454. He was a guy. What did he look like?

  455. Well, it's not important but there was certainly nothing

  456. spectacular about him. So he wouldn't have been picked

  457. among another group of his peers.

  458. Go, like he's the best for anyway.

  459. To just Behold Him in the natural sense, he was despised

  460. and rejected by Men. A Man of Sorrows and acquainted

  461. with grief. And as one from whom men hide

  462. their faces, he was despised and we esteemed him not surely.

  463. He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, yet.

  464. We esteemed him stricken Smitten by God and Afflicted, but he was

  465. pierced, Rest for our transgressions, he was crushed

  466. for our iniquities. upon him was the chastisement that brought us

  467. peace and with his wounds We are healed.

  468. We all like sheep have gone astray.

  469. We have turned every one to his own way and the lord has laid on

  470. him. The iniquity of us.

  471. All you see the back and forth. You see the substitution, he

  472. took the hit, we got the blessing, he suffered, we get to

  473. be glorified with him now. He was oppressed.

  474. And he was afflicted yet. He opened.

  475. Not his mouth like a lamb that is led to the slaughter and like

  476. a sheep that is before, it's Shearer's is silent.

  477. So he opened not a man. Opened not his mouth by

  478. oppression and judgment. He was taken away.

  479. What are we reading about his suffering?

  480. And as for his generation who considered that he was cut off

  481. from the land of the living stricken for the transgression

  482. of my people, and they made his grave with the wicked.

  483. That means he died on the cross with actually wicked men and

  484. with a rich man in his death, why what about a rich, man?

  485. They buried him in a rich man's tomb.

  486. Another prophecy, fulfilled fulfilled fulfilled.

  487. And although he had done no violence, there was no deceit in

  488. his mouth yet. It was the will of the Lord to

  489. crush him. He has put him to grief.

  490. It was the will of the Lord to crush him.

  491. It was the will of the father to crush Jesus.

  492. The enemies of Christ, they enemies of the church, say

  493. foolish and ignorant things like that's child abuse.

  494. God, the Father crucifying, his son on the cross.

  495. It's a strong man. A straw man argument is where

  496. you build a really weak man, you build them out of straw and you

  497. go look at this stupid thing and then you go kick it over easily

  498. and go, haha, see how easily that fell apart, but that's that

  499. wasn't our argument. That was never our argument.

  500. This is not child abuse. Christ, chose and Christ.

  501. Willfully. Wanted to rescue his bride.

  502. He did it all for the joy that was set before him for the love

  503. that he has for you. He gave his life so it was the

  504. will of the father. It was the will of the sun and

  505. it was the will of the Holy Spirit, which is why the father

  506. is pleased, which is why the Holy Spirit was please.

  507. The fullness of God was pleased to dwell in him bodily and which

  508. is why the father is now given him the name above every name.

  509. Because he was so pleased with what Christ has done in Christ.

  510. Did it for the joy that was set before him.

  511. It was the will of the Lord to crush him.

  512. He has put him to grief when his soul makes an offering for Guilt

  513. Jesus. Suffered in his soul, he

  514. suffered in his Spirit. When his soul makes an offering

  515. for Guilt. He shall see his offspring.

  516. Offspring did Jesus have children?

  517. Yes, he did. We are them, we are the children

  518. of God Christ's sacrifice, makes us now.

  519. Children, the Son of God gets treated like an enemy of God, so

  520. that the enemies of God can become the sons of God.

  521. This is again, the substitution that he makes did Jesus have

  522. actual children. Know, The DaVinci Code may be a

  523. clever book or a fun movie. I don't know.

  524. I haven't read it or seen it but no, it's absolute nonsense to

  525. say that Jesus had children on the earth.

  526. He didn't. But yet, does he have many

  527. offspring? He does.

  528. He rescued the world and reconciled us through himself.

  529. He shall see his offspring. He shall prolong his days.

  530. What's that making reference to his resurrection?

  531. He's not just going to die and be forgotten to go.

  532. Well, at least we get to live. We know what happens three days

  533. later while spoiler alert, he comes back to life.

  534. The will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand out of the

  535. anguish of his soul. He shall see and be satisfied by

  536. his knowledge shall the righteous one.

  537. My servant make many accounted righteous and he shall bear

  538. their iniquities. Therefore, so because he does

  539. all that the father is speaking therefore, I will divide him a

  540. portion with the mini and he shall divide the spoil with the

  541. strong because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered

  542. with the transgressors transgressors.

  543. Yet, he bore the sin of many and makes intercession for the

  544. transgressors, Hallelujah. He made intercession for us.

  545. He went between the great high priest.

  546. Like, we talked about last week, the one who goes into the temple

  547. and takes the sacrifice. Jesus said, I'm going in to the

  548. holy place and I am the sacrifice.

  549. I'm going all the way Galatians. 2:20 says it this way, I have

    Galatians 2:20

  550. been crucified with Christ. This is a Christian, this is

  551. what the Christian says, on the back end now of the cross, I

  552. I've been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live but

  553. Christ who lives in me and the life.

  554. I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who

  555. loved me and gave himself for me.

  556. What does this mean for us? My old life was crucified, Not

  557. only was Christ crucified on the cross.

  558. This is special. This is big.

  559. Your old life was crucified on the cross your old life, what

  560. happened to it? You just kind of go away, just

  561. gotta ignore it. No, not at all.

  562. He says legally. Speaking, he crucified it.

  563. So as far as God's concerned you were on the cross, that's the

  564. point. It's not an injustice, it's

  565. mercy and his grace, but he says, I did crucify you on the

  566. cross through Christ. Through your faith in Christ,

  567. you were also crucified with him.

  568. That's good news. My old life is really dead.

  569. That's what our baptism represents my old, life has died

  570. and buried, but now I've been washed and raised to New Life in

  571. Christ Jesus. Our old life was crucified with

  572. him go to 2nd Corinthians chapter 5.

  573. What else is his suffering mean for us?

  574. His suffering actually leads us to do something.

  575. We talked about how the Creed is practical, is it important to

  576. have solid Doctrine? And it doesn't know what's true?

  577. And what's false? Absolutely.

  578. But we also said, there's practicality to all of it.

  579. It means something it does something.

  580. What does it mean? What's the big deal?

  581. How will I live differently? If I believe that?

  582. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, if I believe he was

  583. crucified, he died and he was buried.

  584. How's that going to affect my Monday?

  585. What's it gonna do? Here's what it does for your

  586. Monday. 2nd Corinthians, 5:18 All, this is from God who

  587. through Christ reconciled us to himself.

  588. And gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

  589. That is In Christ, God was reconciling the world to

  590. himself. The world was not in right

  591. standing with God, the account was out of whack.

  592. They were the we owed him. A lot of money, the account was

  593. not the count was in the red. We owed him a lot of money and

  594. that's a big problem. So he wants to reconcile the

  595. world to himself through Christ. That is verse 19, that is in

  596. Christ. God was reconciling the world to

  597. himself not counting their trespasses against them and

  598. entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

  599. Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ.

  600. Making his appeal through us God making his appeal through us.

  601. We implore you on behalf of Christ be reconciled to God for

  602. our sake. He made him who knew no sin to

  603. be sin, so that in him, we might become the righteousness of God.

  604. What will it matter if I believe?

  605. He suffered under Pontius Pilate?

  606. If I believe he was crucified, he died, and he was buried.

  607. It's going to mean, you're going to tell somebody the gospel of

  608. the Kingdom. It's going to mean like Hudson

  609. on the playground. I got to tell people.

  610. I got to tell people here, these little girls, using the lord's

  611. name in vain over and over and he was grieved by he's going,

  612. huh? He didn't just go over and say,

  613. don't say that. Although that would have been a

  614. bad place to start, but he went over and said, hey, did you

  615. know, God is our father and he's our creator and he started to

  616. tell them the good news. Why?

  617. Because God's not wanting to hold your sins against you.

  618. He's already held him against Christ.

  619. He's already somebody paid for him so when you go to the

  620. grocery store to grab your groceries and you just go to

  621. walk out, he's gonna. Yeah, they're already paid for.

  622. I want you to enjoy that but I want you to do it with faith.

  623. I don't you. I don't want you to do it with

  624. pride. You don't do it and go.

  625. I just Deserve these though you don't know you don't want to

  626. talk about what you deserve, that would be an unwise

  627. conversation for you to have. You don't want to discuss or

  628. even think about what you deserve.

  629. But if you want to talk about what God has given freely

  630. through his grace, well, that that's something special.

  631. So, when we believe that he suffered, when we really believe

  632. it, not just, I know the facts. Yeah, yeah.

  633. Yeah. But when I believe it, it's

  634. going to lead me to do something about it.

  635. I gotta tell somebody. Hey, did you know, God's not

  636. counting up your sin against you?

  637. He's not holding it against you. He held it against Christ.

  638. You can be free from the wrath of God.

  639. I thought you just said, I am free.

  640. Well, my point is, you can walk in his grace.

  641. And receive his Mercy because if you don't, then you definitely

  642. won't. There is wrath stored up for

  643. anybody who rejects the sun, because that's how the Lord

  644. considers it at that point. It's not that you're just dying

  645. for your sins but you're also dying for the rejection of the

  646. blood, the precious blood of Jesus, The Father loves the

  647. blood of Jesus, The Father loves his son.

  648. He he is proud of his son, he is honoring, the Lord Jesus Christ,

  649. and he will not let one drop of Jesus blood.

  650. Go to waste. And if I could get to heaven,

  651. Without the sacrifice of Christ, then the sacrifice of Christ was

  652. worthless. If anybody can be saved without

  653. the blood of Jesus, then the blood of Jesus is meaningless.

  654. Do you think for one moment that the father God would let the

  655. blood of Jesus be meaningless? They ripped out his beard.

  656. They punched the Lord himself in the face.

  657. They mocked him. They put a crown of thorns on

  658. his head. Do you think the father would

  659. look at that and go? Come on everybody.

  660. This is what universalism Teaches everybody is eventually

  661. going to be saved, everybody eventually, even if there's a

  662. temporary he'll ultimately, everybody is eventually going to

  663. be saved the Creed rejects that when we stand on a truth, we

  664. reject a million other things. When I say Natalie's, my wife,

  665. I'm saying about 4 billion other.

  666. Women are not to say something is, is to say a lot of other.

  667. Something is not, it's not well. This and also know, this is what

  668. the Creed helps us to do to reject the nonsense of the age

  669. that we live in. Every age has nonsense.

  670. Every age has wise, why are we so adding about the lies in our

  671. day? Because they're the lies of our

  672. day. We need to fight where our fight

  673. is. We need to be courageous where

  674. we're Supposed to be courageous so we don't we don't we don't

  675. even give any respect they idea. Well that's your truth.

  676. There's not your truth or my truth.

  677. There's just Jesus the truth. What is truth?

  678. I'll tell you his name is Jesus. If we believe he suffered, how

  679. will that impact? The way?

  680. We talk to the world around us. He was stripped naked suffered,

  681. the most creatively, cruel torment, humans could come up

  682. with when you believe he did that for your friend, and for

  683. your family, and for your acquaintances, and for your

  684. enemies. You invite him to Bible study,

  685. it'll lead to something. It won't just be like, yeah,

  686. people ought to get right with the Lord.

  687. Yeah, you are the minister of reconciliation.

  688. He is given to you a Ministry. I'm not in the ministry.

  689. Yes, you are. I'm sorry, you've been lied to

  690. before you are in the ministry, if you're a Believer, this is

  691. the high calling. This is what it means to be a

  692. believer. Jesus said, follow me and they

  693. said, what for? And he said, I'll make you

  694. Fishers of Men. Who we dodged the coffin spell

  695. there. Those on the break.

  696. He put it. He put it in the invite right

  697. away. It wasn't a bait and switch.

  698. It wasn't like, follow me. What?

  699. For? I have a wonderful plan for your

  700. life and you can go to heaven when you die.

  701. Was that the invite no, follow me come.

  702. Get on the mission. The ministry of reconciliation

  703. on reconciling the whole world to God through myself.

  704. Come follow me. That was the invite and he also

  705. put in the invite, oh, but if you're not willing to take up

  706. your cross and follow me then you're not worthy to be my

  707. disciple. Jesus said that mr.

  708. Nice guy. Are you sure?

  709. Yeah, multiple times multiple times, not just once and I don't

  710. mean, just, it's recorded once in each gospel.

  711. I mean, multiple times, it was a regular part of his invitation.

  712. Come follow me. Why?

  713. We are going to go fishing from it.

  714. You're fishing for fish. Nothing wrong with that, but

  715. there's something higher and better to fish for people.

  716. To be a fisher of men. Because you want to see people

  717. reconciled to God. That's what suffering when we

  718. understand when we believe in his suffering.

  719. That's what we'll do. The cross.

  720. You thought I was crying. I'm not I'm running low on

  721. water. Don't know what we're gonna do

  722. here in a minute across, not a crown.

  723. Not a throne, is the symbol that we use to represent our

  724. religion. This is good.

  725. This is right because the death of Jesus is they necessary focal

  726. point of our faith. Read to you from Hebrews, you

  727. don't need to go there. I'm just going to read it to

  728. you, Hebrews chapter 12 verses 1 and 2 therefore since we are

    Hebrews 12:1

  729. surrounded by so great. A cloud of witnesses.

  730. Let us also lay aside every weight and sin, which clings to

  731. us so closely and let us run with endurance.

  732. The race that is set, before us looking to Jesus, the founder

  733. and the Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy, that was set

  734. before him. Endured the cross.

  735. Despising, the shame. That means disregarding the

  736. shame and is seated. At the right hand of the Throne

  737. of God. Suffering, isn't something that

  738. you would think is a good tool to Market with, but we do so,

  739. with great pride in Jesus, because Jesus, endured the

  740. cross, he disregarded the shame. And he pursued the Greater Joy

  741. of pleasing, the Father, and Jesus wanted to rescue his

  742. bride. It's Father's Day as father's

  743. those of us who are dads, we can understand that and men in

  744. general, understand this, this idea that women think is like,

  745. we're just weirdos. It's like, but this Vision you

  746. have of dying for people, like that'd be awesome.

  747. It wouldn't be the happiest day of your life.

  748. And at the same time, it would bring you a great joy and a deep

  749. satisfaction because Joy is connected to purpose.

  750. Joy is not just connected to circumstance.

  751. Sometimes people really make a strong dichotomy between

  752. happiness and joy and that's not the point.

  753. To make here. But I do want to emphasize that

  754. Joy is connected to having purpose.

  755. And that's what Jesus did. He was able to endure suffering?

  756. Christians should be able to endure suffering.

  757. Why? Because a purpose in front of

  758. us, I don't like this circumstance.

  759. I don't want this circumstance. I wouldn't have chose to

  760. circumstance and yet I can endure suffering why?

  761. Well, because Jesus went first, he showed me what it looks like.

  762. He showed me how it's done and I have the Holy Spirit so I can

  763. endure anything. Because I know that there is

  764. purpose in it, that doesn't mean everything that's happening to

  765. me, is God's will because my own flesh could have gotten me here,

  766. the broken world could have gotten me here, the devil could

  767. have gotten me here so don't hear.

  768. Don't miss, he or something. But in everything, there's still

  769. purpose in every trial and every tribulation in an every test.

  770. We can see how this idea of joy and suffering applies to us in a

  771. much smaller degrees, but it's still real.

  772. Some days. Our work can have a lot of

  773. suffering in it and yet there can still be a deeper Joy.

  774. They might not show up as a smile on our face but there's

  775. still a purpose in a pleasure behind it because Joy is

  776. connected to purpose, not just circumstances.

  777. As a parent, everything's not always happy, right?

  778. Dad's were not always happy but if you stay focused on your

  779. purpose, you will experience Joy.

  780. You press through because of the joy that set before you because

  781. of the purpose. There's a mission here,

  782. something's being accomplished and that brings me a joy.

  783. That brings me a deeper satisfaction.

  784. Verse 11 in Hebrews 12 says, for the moment, all discipline seems

  785. painful rather than pleasant. But later, it yields the

  786. peaceful. Will fruit of righteousness to

  787. those who have been trained by it?

  788. That's what Christians are keeping their eyes focused on.

  789. Is there suffering is there difficulty?

  790. Yes, but no matter what discipline I'm enduring, whether

  791. its self-imposed or externally imposed I know that there's

  792. going to be peaceful fruit of righteousness, we don't want to

  793. suffer, but we can suffer well under anything because Jesus

  794. went first. He showed us how it's done and

  795. he calls us to take up our cross and to follow him.

  796. If you're still in Isaiah, I'm gonna read from chapter 50.

  797. Now, chapter 50 verses 5 through 7, the Lord God has opened my

  798. ear. This is prophesy of Christ.

  799. This is Christ speaking. Hundreds of years, before Christ

  800. came to the Earth, the Lord God is opened my ear.

  801. And I was not rebellious. I turned not backward.

  802. I gave my back to those who strike.

  803. Jesus surrendered his back. He didn't say, please don't

  804. please give me a minute. He gave his back to those who

  805. strike and my cheeks. To those who pull out the beard,

  806. I hid, not my face from disgrace and spitting but the Lord God

  807. helps me. Therefore, I have not been

  808. disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face,

  809. like a flint. And I know that I shall not be

  810. put to shame. When looking to Jerusalem the

  811. week of his crucifixion and Jesus is moving forward, and

  812. he's been telling everybody, hey, I'm going to go.

  813. I'm going to go be crucified now.

  814. They're like no. No that's not the idea we have

  815. for the Messiah. We thought you were going to

  816. find the like free us from the Romans.

  817. He's going to say he's saying I'm gonna free you from

  818. everything. I do for you from everybody

  819. actually, but not the way that you thought the Bible tells us

  820. that he set his face to go to Jerusalem and there in Isaiah

  821. says he set his face. Like Flint, what does that mean?

  822. Who is who's this Flint guy? Well, it's not a person but

  823. Flint was a rock, a very, very hard rock.

  824. And it was used to show in scripture, choose to show a

  825. hardness of toughness and a determination.

  826. That's how Jesus goes to the Cross.

  827. He doesn't go to the Cross begging for mercy.

  828. He goes embracing suffering because he's really focused on

  829. Joy, that's past it. Jesus died on the cross, as our

  830. substitute, our replacement our sacrifice and yet he tells us

  831. take up your cross and follow me.

  832. This means that for the joy set before us which is what Living

  833. in fellowship with God, there were willing to lay down our

  834. life. We're willing to lay down our

  835. flesh. So when we Face tests and

  836. trials, whether they're from God or the world, or the flesh, or

  837. the devil, we believe our savior suffered under Pontius Pilate.

  838. He was crucified, he died. He was buried.

  839. And we know that the students are not greater than the

  840. teacher. So if he endure, we will as

  841. well. In this world, we will have

  842. trouble, but we are of good cheer because he has overcome

  843. the world. Christians are not strangers to

  844. suffering. In our Lord showed us how to

  845. endure it by seeing through to the Joy on the other side.

  846. Heavenly Father, we thank you for your perfect plan and we

  847. thank you for your perfect strength.

  848. Jesus, you're the perfect servant, the perfect son, the

  849. perfect, Lord and Master. And you are worthy to receive

  850. all praise, glory honor, and reverence you suffered for the

  851. joy. That was set in front of you,

  852. the joy of rescuing the people that you love, pleasing the

  853. father And glorifying your own name.

  854. God we pray that you would continue to bring Revelation to

  855. us, but bring conviction that leads us to action, don't just

  856. fill, our don't let our heads be filled with facts but let our

  857. hearts be changed by truth. So that we would be Fishers of

  858. Men that we would go into all the world, starting with our

  859. closest neighbors, our friends, our family, our loved ones, and

  860. our enemies and telling them the good news of the Gospel of the

  861. Kingdom. There is a king in heaven.

  862. He has come, he has not counting up your sins against you, he

  863. counted them Against Christ repent and believe the gospel.

  864. It is the power of God. It is the Salvation for those

  865. who will believe Lord fill us with the Holy Spirit and with

  866. power, make us bold to tell the good news to tell the truth

  867. about the one who is the truth We thank you for it in Jesus

  868. name. And now the Lord bless you and

  869. keep you the Lord, make his face shine down upon you and be

  870. gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance

  871. upon you and give you great. Peace in Jesus name.

  872. Amen.
