Matthew chapter 28. Were still in the Apostles
Matthew 28 chapter mention
-
Creed. And in particular today, we're
-
looking at he ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand
-
of God the Father Almighty. So, last week, he descended.
-
So we looked at. He descended to Hell.
-
The third day. He rose again from the dead and
-
then he ascended to Heaven. Of course.
-
He didn't Ascend to heaven, right away.
-
He stayed on Earth for 40 days, appearing to over 500 people.
-
During that time period, David and then he ascended in front of
-
their eyes. They watched him Ascend up into
-
heaven. We've talked a lot about the
-
need for the Apostles Creed and why it's been such a valuable
-
resource to the body of Christ for thousands of years now, and
-
part of that we said is because it brings Clarity to the most
-
essential doctrines instead of. Well, what do you want to tell
-
somebody about God? Well, he loves you and he has a
-
wonderful plan for your life. Well, those are true statements,
-
and yet, there's more to it. That should be communicated.
-
Even at a fundamental level and the Apostles Creed helps us to
-
say, what matters, most what does a Christian need to
-
believe? What is it?
-
What do all Christians need to have Harmony and unity around in
-
the Apostles? Creed says, these are essential.
-
There's lots of Freedom Beyond these, but you can't but you
-
can't remove any of these. We have boiled it down in the
-
Apostles Creed to say, this is the essential essence.
-
You can't remove anything from this and still have
-
Christianity. So we've got Clarity and the
-
purpose of this was because there was so much false doctrine
-
that there Early church leaders were saying, you know what?
-
There's a lot of misinformation. There's a lot about teaching.
-
Let's put, let's put something together that can serve the
-
church. They can educate new Believers,
-
and disciple them and say, hey, I follow Jesus.
-
Oh, did you know, are you filled with the Holy Spirit?
-
We didn't even know there was a holy spirit, so there's all
-
kinds of things that the, the early church fathers, I was
-
combining the book of Acts of the Apostles Creed.
-
They're not connected. The Creed comes hundreds of
-
years after the apostles, but the point is not that the
-
apostles wrote the Creed. The point is that the Screed is
-
called the Apostles Creed because it confirms the teaching
-
of the Apostles. It confirms what the apostles
-
taught. But one of the big big needs of
-
the Creed was to correct. False doctrines decide to say
-
yes to one thing is to say no to something else to say, yes, to
-
your spouse is to say no to billions of other people.
-
Like, I choose you. That means, I say, no.
-
You're so, you're rejecting all of us.
-
Well, yeah, like that's the thing.
-
That's what makes this thing special is because I rejected
-
everything else. So, to say yes to these truths
-
of the doctrine in the Apostles Creed is to say no to all other
-
kinds of nonsense, I saw in. I don't know if you caught the
-
news anymore. I saw online this week, that
-
there was some heretical church with some heretical Minister who
-
led their congregation in reciting, what they called the
-
sparkle Creed and it was it was an Abomination.
-
And and I won't I thought I was like, maybe I should show it to
-
him is like, no, we're not going.
-
Desecrate, the Lord's service with that kind of nonsense, but
-
it was, it was just completely false Doctrine.
-
It was, it was gross. It was the promotion of
-
homosexuality, and in the glorification of it and false
-
Doctrine about Christ and so on. But they but they had taken the
-
framework of the Apostles Creed, and they had swapped it out and
-
they said, I believe in, and then it and then the apostasy
-
gets really bad. So, why do we have the Apostles
-
Creed again, to say what is true?
-
I believe that most Christians could have heard what they
-
called the sparkle Creed and said that ain't right.
-
But can those same Christians, also say, what is can those same
-
Christians? Also say, well, I know that's
-
wrong and no, that's wrong. I know, that's what, but can you
-
say, what is good? Can you say what is true?
-
Can you say? What is beautiful?
-
Can you say, what's accurate? Well, the Apostles Creed gives
-
us a place where we can joyfully declare what we believe because
-
it's what is true and that's how the Creed starts.
-
I believe I believe we talked about how believing in something
-
will change the way that you live.
-
It's different from just knowing something.
-
I know I ought to eat better. Are you going to do it?
-
Nah, but I know I order you know, I know a lot of things
-
that don't change the silly way I live.
-
Do you believe in something though?
-
We've said changes the way that you live.
-
I believe that then it'll show up there will be fruit they'll
-
be evidence that will be proof of it.
-
So let's start by reading the Apostles Creed together, stand
-
to your feet, one more time. As we not just recite the Creed,
-
but we declare we're declaring together.
-
Here we go. I believe in God, the Father
-
Almighty creator of Heaven and Earth.
-
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son our Lord who was
-
conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
-
He suffered under Pontius Pilate was crucified died and was
-
buried. He descended to Hell the third
-
day. He rose again from the dead.
-
He ascended to heaven and seated at the right hand of God, the
-
Father Almighty from there. He will come to judge the living
-
and the dead, I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic
-
Church. The communion of saints, the
-
Forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the
-
life Everlasting, amen. You may be seated.
-
We join with the Saints throughout history.
-
As we say, those things is what Saints have said and all
-
languages and all time periods. To say this is what's true.
-
We're joyfully saying it, why? Because we're not ashamed of the
-
Gospel. It is the power of God unto
-
salvation, for those who believe.
-
So we've also said that the Creed is useful for you to even
-
be able to minister the gospel you go.
-
I don't know what to say to people.
-
If you know the Apostles Creed, you've got a great framework,
-
you've got a clear understanding, I mean, think
-
about this, if You have this in your mind, you can teach
-
somebody that there who is god. Well there's God the Father
-
Almighty, he's the creator of Heaven and Earth.
-
That's simple. That's foundational.
-
But that's important just like Hudson shared his testimony a
-
few weeks back on the playground.
-
He heard some kids. Playing the Holy Spirit, led
-
him, and he went over there and say, hey God is our creator.
-
Did you know this? He starts to share the gospel
-
with them and he actually used the framework of the Apostles
-
Creed. What else do we believe?
-
As you minister to somebody? You can tell them.
-
Jesus Christ is God's only son. He's our Lord.
-
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
-
He was born of a virgin and we've talked about why all these
-
things matter. God didn't make, Jesus, born of
-
a virgin, just to say poof, look what I can do, I can do
-
anything. Of course, he can do anything,
-
but Jesus had to be born of a virgin and we explain why in
-
that sermon. He suffered under Pontius
-
Pilate. He was crucified died and was
-
buried. Why for our sins, the punishment
-
that brought us peace was upon him.
-
The chastisement that brought us.
-
Peace was upon him and it pleased, the father to punish
-
and Crush cry. Just so that we could be set
-
free. He descended to hell, we
-
clarified and explained that he didn't suffer in Flames but the
-
word hell represented the place of the dead.
-
He was with that Thief that day, in paradise, he was in the place
-
also known as Abraham's bosom, where Abraham and all the Old
-
Testament Saints would have been, and he opens up the way to
-
heaven, the third day. He rose again from the dead.
-
He ascended into heaven. What are you doing?
-
You're sharing with somebody, you're you're telling them the
-
story. The the truth of God, it is
-
historical. It's not just, you need to feel
-
certain feelings. You need to think, certain
-
thoughts like, hey, no, no, you your belief.
-
Yes, it's by faith but it's also anchored in logic.
-
This happened. This literally happened across
-
that water and Israel in Jerusalem.
-
Like it happened. There's like a hill that Jesus
-
died on. There's a tomb where the stone
-
that rock is still on the earth. I don't know which one and I'm
-
sure they'll tell you, they know which one because they want
-
those tourists to come. And look at the correct Rock.
-
But regardless it's all, it's all there.
-
It's all happened, and Jesus really ascended, his feet left,
-
the mountain, and he ascended into heaven.
-
He was there and this happened. This is the will of God.
-
So you're able to share with somebody all these things are
-
historically accurate. All these things took place and
-
now he's seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
-
What's next? That person that you're
-
discipling. May be wondering from there,
-
he's coming to judge. He's coming back, he will judge
-
the living and the dead. Oh, by the way, there's also the
-
holy spirit. So there's one God In three.
-
Look at the Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty next
-
section. I believe in Jesus Christ, his
-
only son our Lord final section. I believe in the Holy Spirit, we
-
see the Trinity represented here, I believe in the Holy
-
Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, not the denomination as
-
you and I would think of it. But it just means the universal
-
Body of Christ is what we put that a strict there.
-
The Holy Catholic Church. The communion of saints, the
-
Forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body.
-
We're also going to be Resurrected.
-
And the life Everlasting. This is a useful tool, a
-
powerful tool for you to be able to communicate what to be able
-
to communicate the word of God. That's all we're after
-
communicating the word of God, and the Apostles Creed gives us
-
a framework to be able to do that.
-
Today, we're in Matthew chapter. 28.
-
Once again, you're there and I'm not Matthew chapter 28, is we
Matthew 28 chapter mention
-
look at how he ascended into heaven and is seated at the
-
right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
-
Matthew 28 verse 16. Now, the eleven disciples went
-
to Galilee to the mountain to, which Jesus had directed them,
-
and when they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted.
-
And Jesus came and said to them, all authority in heaven and on
-
Earth, has been given to me go, therefore, and Make Disciples of
-
all Nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of
-
the son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all
-
that. I have commanded you and behold.
-
I Am With You Always to the End of the Age.
-
God, we thank you for your word, for your promise, and for your
-
power. Bring us Revelation.
-
Bring us hope and fill us with faith.
-
You make it all to grow and we thank you for maturing Us in
-
Jesus name. Amen.
-
Here we have Jesus last words before he ascends, we know this,
-
right? We know this intuitively.
-
Your last words are your most important words whenever you
-
especially when you get to choose them deliberately, like,
-
I'm dying everyone. Here's what I have to say.
-
That's the important thing. It's the thing that I maybe I
-
was always too afraid to say, it's the thing that I regret,
-
but that you're about to get my best, you might be impressed,
-
you might not, but you're still gonna get My best.
-
My best effort. Well Jesus of course he's not
-
dying. He died.
-
He was raised and now he's been alive for 40 days and since then
-
he's been alive for 2,000 years and he'll be Alive forevermore
-
but he's sharing with them. His last words.
-
So we pay attention, we think about his last words and we go,
-
this is significant, this is the thing, he's leaving them with.
-
He could say anything in this moment, but what does he say?
-
What does he emphasized? Well, he says all authority has
-
been given unto me. All authority in heaven on
-
Earth. What's he pointing out?
-
I am the king. I am.
-
The king all authority in heaven has been given to me and some
-
Authority on Earth. Is that the way he put it?
-
No, it's not all authority everywhere belongs to Jesus.
-
Well, I don't think so. And so sees it that way, all
-
authority, everywhere belongs to Jesus.
-
Jesus is King. Jesus is in charge.
-
Everyone should constantly be submitting to Jesus.
-
So, he's, he's waiting himself, and he's showing his disciples.
-
Hey, all authority in Heaven and Earth belongs to me.
-
Okay, therefore, go I command you, I'm the king.
-
I'm the one who's accomplished everything, I deserve all the
-
Glory and now, I'm giving you a command understand who I am
-
before. I say what I'm about to say,
-
don't receive this from a friend.
-
Don't receive this as a suggestion.
-
Don't think I'm saying. Hey guys, what do you think
-
about this? Isn't a democracy.
-
I'm the king. And when the king speaks
-
everybody obeys, so I need to clarify and remind you.
-
I'm the king and because I'm the king.
-
Now, here's what I expect you to do all authority in Heaven and
-
Earth belongs to me, go and make disciples of all Nations.
-
Baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son, and
-
of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that.
-
I have commanded you and behold. I Am With You Always even unto
-
the end of the age. So what does Jesus not say?
-
He doesn't say some Authority in heaven and on Earth has been
-
given to me, therefore, you know, mind your own business and
-
just do your own thing because because your faith is a personal
-
thing. You know, faith is deeply.
-
Personal also known as like secretive.
-
So, don't bother anybody with it.
-
You can't teach anybody to obey. You can't baptize the nation's.
-
Like you can't you can't like force Christianity on the world
-
because like they might not like that very much but instead Jesus
-
says go teach everybody to what? To do what I've commanded.
-
Teach everybody to obey. What are you some kind of
-
Christian nationalist? Let me clarify something for
-
you. I'm a Christian everything.
-
So if you can put Christian on it, I'm all about it.
-
So I'm not a Christian nationalist.
-
I'm a Christian Universalist because the one who Reigns over
-
the universe is Christ. So, am I Christian nationalist?
-
I guess that's supposed to be an insult, by the way, to
-
Christians nowadays, But so was the name Christian when it was
-
first formed. It was used as an insult to mock
-
the church to call them. Oh, look at those little
-
Christ's, that was how they wanted to insult them.
-
And now, the newest message to get Christians to shut up about
-
advancing, the gospel of the kingdom in the, in the, in the
-
nation that you live in because we're not supposed to America,
-
we're not supposed to christianize America.
-
Apparently, we're only supposed to christianize like third world
-
Nations. But if you try and christianize
-
America, they're trying to demonize that with, are you some
-
kind of Christian nationalist? I'm a When everything, let all
-
the internet here on the podcast and everywhere else, I hope that
-
Jesus would find me is faithful as the world Finds Me guilty.
-
But the point is, we're joyfully telling everybody Jesus is King.
-
Jesus is Lord. This is good news to you world,
-
this is good news, I haven't given you one ounce of bad news.
-
Jesus is a good King. He Loves You.
-
Jesus isn't the king who killed his enemies.
-
Jesus is the one who died for his enemies.
-
So now bow, the knee, kiss the Sun and glorify his name because
-
he's worthy because he loves you.
-
What does Jesus want his church to do?
-
He wants us to invade the world with the good news of the
-
Gospel, the world is broken. The world has lost the world is
-
hurting, so he says go into the world.
-
But that when he said this and other gospels, bring this out as
-
well in the gospel of Mark, when he says, go into all the world,
-
he's not just talking about every country, he's not just
-
talking geographically. Talking about every system.
-
Every single system is where God wants his kingdom Advance, which
-
is why Jesus taught us to pray, because Jesus is, my kingdom is
-
not of this world, right? But he wants it to be, which is
-
why he says in, that's it, which is why we pray, your will be
-
done. Your kingdom.
-
Come your will be done. Where on Earth?
-
No. No guys.
-
What are you doing? What are you?
-
Christian nationalist. Calm down.
-
Christian, globalist like everywhere.
-
Mars needs to be Christian you know, like every Brock was to be
-
the first man on Mars. So he's going to take communion.
-
He's going to plan a Christian flag.
-
Maybe like you didn't put the American fight like, no, I snuck
-
another one up here, Mars belongs to Jesus, too.
-
Everything is his. He invented it.
-
He made it, he holds it together.
-
He is preeminent. We said over everything and
-
everybody, so he wants us to invade every system.
-
Political, educational entertainment, the workplace,
-
all the world with. What?
-
What are you guys trying to get in here?
-
Well, you guessed it. We do have a plot.
-
It's it involves love joy. Peace, patience, kindness
-
goodness, faithfulness gentleness and self-control you
-
caught us. Are we under arrest?
-
Well, yes, actually, it's some point.
-
It's likely even for those of us in the west, that's okay.
-
Because we know that this world is broken and upside down and
-
the Lord's kingdom is right side up.
-
So we're still going to come and bring the good news of the
-
Gospel. No matter how much we hated
-
were. The students are not above the
-
teacher, right? If he was hated, what it, what
-
should we expect, he was better than us, right?
-
We have not fully become like the master.
-
And if the master suffered We will as well.
-
But look at the promise that he makes this is the great comfort.
-
It gives to us that I find kind of funny.
-
It's kind of funny last words, right before you fly up into the
-
air. I'm with you always to the End
-
of the Age. Goodbye.
-
Wait, which is it? I'm with you always.
-
And as he leaves like Jesus, we want you to stay.
-
We don't want you to go. I'm with you.
-
What do you mean by this? But he leaves, but he doesn't
-
leave. That's the point.
-
He doesn't leave. He actually fills the hearts of
-
his people. He hasn't left them.
-
He hasn't left his church. He hasn't left you.
-
He does this through the power of the Holy Spirit and Jesus
-
feels everything in every way. What's the point here?
-
What are you getting at? I thought were supposed to talk
-
about the Ascension of Jesus ascending into heaven.
-
My point. Is this the Ascension of Jesus
-
was not abandonment. It was empowerment.
-
The whole point was for the church to disciple.
-
The nation's, the whole point of Jesus ascending, he says, it's
-
good for me to leave because if I leave them, there's going to
-
be another who comes, who's just like me.
-
And I'm going to send you out the training session has ended
-
and the disciples are released. And now the disciples are to
-
make disciples who make disciples and from those 11, we
-
all sit here today. They turned the world upside
-
down, and from those 11. It's a pretty cool thought to
-
think that the Lord could you? And I couldn't at this point,
-
but you could trace your Christianity back to one of
-
those eleven Apostles of the Lamb.
-
Somebody LED somebody to the Lord who led somebody to the
-
Lord, who eventually came all the way down to you eventually.
-
We'll get to see that spiritual tree of life.
-
I came through Thomas, you know, that's crazy, that's so cool
-
because him to him, to him, to him, to him, to her, to her, to
-
her, to them. It's a beautiful thing to be a
-
part of the family of God. But the Ascension is not Jesus
-
as abandonment of the church. The Ascension is Jesus is
-
empowerment to the church to say, I've got you and you've got
-
this, I'm entrusting my mission to my church.
-
Jesus is building his church, he hasn't left us alone, but Jesus
-
sat down. You sit down when the job is
-
done. When you've accomplished your
-
work. He says, I've accomplished my
-
work and now I have have empowered my church to go out
-
and make disciples to glorify my name.
-
Turn to Acts chapter 1. It's wild that he isn't trusted
Acts 1 chapter mention
-
so much to us. It's wild to me that he and that
-
he's entrusted all of this to go.
-
Y'all got the sounds like you would think that my thought is
-
you would think he would want to still be here and to which he
-
would reply, I am I am. That's the thing that you don't
-
get. Whenever I have that train of
-
thought it and I'm reminded but I am, I am the holy spirit's
-
going? Excuse me.
-
I am I am here. I am present.
-
I'm present in my people and through my people to empower my
-
people to make everybody my people.
-
Acts chapter 1. So you know who wrote Matthew,
Acts 1 chapter mention
-
you know who wrote Mark and you know who wrote Luke and you know
-
who wrote John, do you know who wrote Acts?
-
Now his name was Act. Was a guy named act actually
-
very good, Brock? Yes, it was Luke.
-
So he's writing to his friend Theophilus and he's sharing the
-
gospel with him. He says in my first book oh
-
Theophilus I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach
-
until the day when he was taken up after he had given commands
-
through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen, he
-
presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many
-
proofs appearing to them, forty days and speaking about the
-
kingdom of God, and while staying with them, he ordered
-
them not to depart from Jerusalem.
-
Mmm, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which he said you
-
heard from me for, John baptized with water, but you will be
-
baptized with the Holy Spirit, not many days from now.
-
So when they had come together they asked him Lord.
-
Will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?
-
Again, they're still thinking about power.
-
We want that political power. We want the Messiah to just
-
crush the Romans and we can rule as Israelites again.
-
He said to them, it's not for you to know the times or the
-
seasons that the father has fixed by his own authority, but
-
you guys want Power. You will receive power.
-
When the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you will be my
-
Witnesses in Jerusalem and in Judea and in Samaria to the ends
-
of the Earth. And when he had said these
-
things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up and a cloud,
-
took him out of their sight. When it says he was lifted up,
-
literally he leaves the ground, the ground he had been standing
-
on with human feet. The he had been eating, he had
-
been drinking with them. He is lifted up and a cloud
-
comes and takes him out of their sight.
-
And while they were gazing into heaven, as he went behold, two
-
men stood by them in white. Robes to angels and said men of
-
Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven?
-
I like the questions that the Angels asked people.
-
They like, why are you looking for the living?
-
Among the dead? They're like so sarcastic about
-
everything. Like hey guys it's going to be
-
just like he said, you know. Hey why are you guys staring up
-
in the sky? Why do you stand looking into
-
heaven? This Jesus, who is taken up from
-
you into heaven, will come and the same way as you saw.
-
Him. Go into heaven, praise God.
-
What do we see going on here? Lots of things.
-
Everybody wants power. We want power, and we need power
-
and God doesn't say how dare you.
-
That's not his response. He says, I will give you power
-
power to what power to be my Witnesses power to be my
-
ambassadors power to be my representatives in the Earth.
-
This is why. We need the Holy Spirit.
-
I look forward to preaching on the holy spirit in a couple
-
weeks, but everybody wants Power and Jesus promises power power
-
to be an ambassador for his kingdom.
-
And that's how he started his ministry with them.
-
Three years earlier. Remember, he hasn't changed
-
anything from the very first moment of his invitation to the
-
very back and look at the bookends of his of his
-
invitation, and then his command come follow me, why?
-
I'll make you Fishers of Men. I'm leaving Go Make Disciples of
-
the nation's, he wasn't inconsistent.
-
There's a lot that happened in the middle, all relevant, ol
-
important, but all connected to the two.
-
Bookends here, there was no bait and switch.
-
There was, no, I've got a great plan, follow me and six years
-
down the road or be like, hey, have you thought about sharing
-
your faith? That was never his angle.
-
That was never his approach. Its come follow me.
-
We're going to disciple the whole world to obey me.
-
Hey, disciple, the whole world to obey me.
-
I'm singing the Holy Spirit. I'll fill you with power, you
-
who are cowards, and who deny me right now, who scatter?
-
When I'm arrested. I'm going to fill you with
-
power. You'll be different people.
-
You'll be different men. It won't be you.
-
I'll send the Holy Spirit, he's just like me.
-
He's going to glorify me. He's going to glorify the father
-
and you'll have power not power to glorify yourself or your own
-
name, but there will be a supernatural power.
-
A boldness, a Clarity, a wisdom tooth.
-
Actually carry out my mission. That's how he started.
-
And that's how he finishes I'll make you Fishers of Men.
-
Now go and John 14, you don't have to turn there.
-
Verses 12 through 14 is where he talks about anybody who follows
-
and obeys me. It's going to actually do
-
Greater Works than I do. Why?
-
Because I go to the father, I go to the father, so those who
-
follow me and obey me or now going to do Greater Works than
-
I've done. There's a lot that's been said
-
and lots of has been debated about what these Greater Works.
-
Are you look at the context? I don't think it's too hard to
-
figure out that Expects his church to do, the massive works
-
that he did to do the supernatural works that he did.
-
I have to work hard to get out of those conclusions and I
-
choose not to because I want to take the text as I understand
-
it, simply. And honestly, but Jesus saying,
-
it's because I go to the father that the church is going to do
-
these Greater Works again. The Ascension is not
-
abandonment, the Ascension is Empowerment Church, you're
-
empowered. You are overqualified to make
-
disciples. The holy spirit is with you.
-
And to be filled with the Holy Spirit is the ideal.
-
Feel that God calls it for obedience to in the book of Acts
-
as they continue because he says don't go anywhere until you've
-
received power. Don't go anywhere until you've
-
received the power that comes from on high.
-
These men are born again at this point.
-
Is multiple multiple places where it's likely that, that it
-
already would have happened. I think my suspicion is this,
-
when Jesus breathed on them, he breathed on them and said
-
receive the Holy Spirit, but now he leaves.
-
And now ten days go by You mean to tell me that the 10 days go
-
by and these people aren't these, people aren't born again,
-
they have experienced the new creation.
-
I don't think what happens on the day of Pentecost.
-
Pentecost is a new creation. I think it's very obvious.
-
It's a second and separate event from salvation and we see that
-
throughout the Book of Acts. Hey, you guys, are you guys felt
-
the Holy Spirit? We didn't know there was a holy
-
spirit, but we love and follow Jesus.
-
Okay. Well then, let's also see that
-
you're filled with the Holy Spirit, why?
-
Because you need the power that comes from on high.
-
It's good that I go to the father because I will fill you
-
with the power that comes from on high.
-
What else do we see going on here in acts as there staring up
-
into the sky? We see that we're not supposed
-
to just be staring up into the sky, we're supposed to be
-
working in the field. Why are you staring up in the
-
sky? Get to work.
-
You heard the king, didn't you? The work is right here in front
-
of you down here in the fields. This is where the work is.
-
We're not supposed to just stare at the sky, we look forward to
-
his return but we should not be distracted by it.
-
We look forward to his return but we should not be distracted
-
by it. There have been churches.
-
There have been whole Ministries that said we have.
-
Got like, we wrote a book on like, these are the 97 reasons
-
we know that Jesus is God or 88 reasons, we know Jesus is coming
-
back in 1988. That was a real thing. in case
-
you're worried, he didn't come back in 1988 but Did they?
-
They really did. Okay.
-
And did they write a new one after that 419?
-
Wow, yeah. So these are very likely our
-
brothers and sisters who love the Lord, but staring at the
-
sky, and instead of the work there, there are others who
-
pulled all their money together and and their resources and work
-
themselves to broke because they had predicted the day that he
-
would return. They knew for sure.
-
He's coming back on this day. So, we don't need any money past
-
that day. And then a day came, can you
-
imagine the discouragement and despair?
-
That's sad, that's heartbreaking.
-
Yeah, the world laughs at the mocks them but I'm sure there
-
are brothers and sisters. So we love them and have
-
compassion for them. And yet be about the business,
-
be about the work, this is the work.
-
Let's let's disciple the nation's when they're not going
-
to do nothing. They're not.
-
If we don't tell them, they're not if we don't teach them to
-
obey, they need us to be the salt.
-
They need us to be the light, it's dark, it's flavorless, it's
-
bland in its rotting. So the salt and the light or the
-
Gift that we can give. It's the way that we can walk in
-
obedience Jesus said no one knows the day or the hour of the
-
Masters return. No one knows the day or the
-
hour, the Master has returned. And he tells a parable about a
-
servant who behaves poorly because the master is gone.
-
And then the master comes back and he says well, the master bi
-
please do the master will cut him into pieces.
-
The point of that, Parable was not, hey, do a better job
-
looking out for the Masters return so that you can hustle up
-
at the last minute Bob and I, when we were kids, whenever we
-
had chores for the day and Mom, and Dad weren't home, we
-
wouldn't do them all day. But when Mom's car would pull in
-
the driveway and you'd be amazed at what you can accomplish in,
-
like 60 seconds, thankfully mom is slow.
-
So Mom pulls in the driveway and you I mean you might have a
-
minute and a half. They get why she's like this
-
person, this drink and these keys and this stuff and you know
-
this backpack or whatever else you know, whatever else she was
-
coming in with, but we hear the car TV off.
-
You know, we had like three channels of course, back then
-
three 10 and 13. We're like watching Ricky Lake
-
after school. You know, anybody remember,
-
these just trashy afternoon talk shows but you can get a lot
-
done. In 45 60 seconds to make it look
-
like, you've done something at least, and Mom's probably come
-
in and not pay attention, or maybe she saw right through it.
-
I don't know, we didn't get beat for it.
-
We got beat for everything else, but not for that, just every
-
day, all we did was get beatings.
-
But Jesus is point is not hey learn to do a better job looking
-
for the master so you can hustle up at the last minute.
-
No, he's coming back now. Get to work.
-
Are the nation's disciple? No.
-
All right. Then we've got something to do.
-
Does your neighbor know the Lord to your friends and family know
-
the Lord. Are you praying for that person
-
of Peace. Have you started that Bible
-
study in your living room? Yeah but I really think the
-
Lord's coming back if you really believed if you really believed
-
then you'd be working in the field because you would want him
-
to find baskets and baskets and baskets of heart.
-
Just to go, look, look, we the Harvest is ready.
-
He says, the laborers are few. Let's fill the field with
-
laborers. We go into the field and harvest
-
and we say, hey welcomed into the kingdom of God.
-
God loves you. Here's who you are.
-
Here's what who the Lord has made you to be all these
-
important doctrines and also, it's your mission.
-
It's your duty, it's your responsibility.
-
And it's your command from King Jesus to make disciples.
-
I'll help you. But now you are a disciple
-
maker. You are now overqualified You're
-
ready and able to make disciples for the glory of God.
-
Well, don't I need to be a Christian for like 97 years.
-
First know where did you get that nonsensical idea?
-
Are you kidding me? No.
-
You must, you must be an American.
-
No. Actually we need to get right to
-
work right away. Should there be any kind of
-
oversight will sure? There can be Brotherhood and
-
partnership. That's why you're going to be in
-
the local church. You love Jesus.
-
You'll obviously loved his church.
-
You can't have one without the other so of course we'll do
-
this. In Fellowship will do this
-
together, but we will do this. We will do this Christians live.
-
A lot Christians often times. I think live boring lives
-
because they're not on the mission of God.
-
Christians live boring lives because they're just
-
navel-gazing and they're only looking to the other side.
-
It's an important part of our faith to look ahead.
-
It's an important part of our faith to look forward to all
-
that Jesus has accomplished and all that.
-
He has promised, but many Christians are bored.
-
Many Christians are neurotic. Many Christians are anxious.
-
Many Those are all caught up in themselves because they're not
-
caring and thinking about the mission of God.
-
They think that's like Navy SEAL Christianity.
-
That's like that's you Pastor J. Mm.
-
No, you're wrong. This is ABC kindergarten
-
Christianity. It hasn't been taught that way
-
and I'm sorry, but this is why we're emphasizing it.
-
This is the DNA of salt Church. Like it's, I refuse to be a part
-
of a local body where the Saints aren't considering themselves as
-
disciple makers, but where the Saints just go?
-
You gotta come here. Bob preach man.
-
You gotta Here. Bob no, you got to lead them
-
into the kingdom. You've got to.
-
Well, can they come here Bob pre-shoot?
-
Sure of course they're welcome to come here.
-
Bob breach like that's important and good but most people don't
-
care about Bob preaching. They don't know.
-
Bob you love Bob and you care about Bob but they don't know.
-
He's just some dude he's your preacher, he's probably weird.
-
He's probably not normally probably the know how real life
-
works. That's how they think about Bob
-
so they don't love Bob the way you do.
-
But they know you and they know your normal right.
-
You know, they know you're cool. So your living room is an
-
opportunity. Go.
-
Hey, you want to come look at the scriptures with me.
-
Hey, you know what? I want to write you a letter.
-
That's what Luke did. Write a letter to a friend,
-
write an email to a friend Jeff. Susie, I've been praying for you
-
lately. I want to share some things with
-
you that I've never really made plain, you got multiple
-
opportunities. You can send it in a snap, you
-
can tweet it Adam. You can write a letter, you can
-
put it in the mail. If you want to, you can send an
-
email, you can send a text message, you can send a voice
-
memo. Like we're not limited on tools,
-
on on means here. Are we limited on boldness?
-
Are we limited on power? Well, the holy spirit is eager
-
to fill his people. But to be a disciple of Jesus,
-
is to make disciples of Jesus. So I love my master and I
-
Rejoice at his voice and I look forward to when he breaks open,
-
the sky with the shout of an archangel.
-
But if I love him, I will obey his command to bring in the
-
Harvest. Jesus ascended.
-
And he says go for it and the disciples felt that way like
-
It's on us now. Yeah, that's the point.
-
It pleases the Lord, it pleases. The Lord just like it did with,
-
for him with Adam in the garden. It pleased, the Lord to say
-
Adam, it's yours. I give it to you.
-
That's what a father. Does it pleases me to give my
-
son stuff? They go.
-
How do I do this? How to do that?
-
Go work on it. Let me see.
-
And I'm watching, I'm present with them, I'm not abandoning
-
them, but I'm not saying I'm not giving them every single tiny
-
instruction, why? Because they're mine and I
-
already know they're capable. The same way with the Lord.
-
He doesn't say Adam. Here's how here's where you have
-
to plant the strawberries because it's your guard, it's
-
yours. Fill the Earth and subdue it.
-
Make it yours, make it obey, you, it pleases me to give my
-
son that opportunity. And Jesus said it.
-
Pleases me to give authority to my church.
-
It pleases me to empower and elevate.
-
My church to say, go go. Should we do it this way?
-
The Lord will guide us wony. The Holy Spirit Will direct us.
-
He is our senior partner. He's not abandoning us and
-
saying, Figure it out. He empowers his church.
-
He guides his church but that's the point.
-
He didn't abandon us. He empowered us and said go.
-
My answer is yes my power is with you.
-
My presence is with you. I'm with you till the end of the
-
age. That means always that means
-
forever. We will never not be together
-
and we'll close with this. Scripture says any the the Creed
-
says, and he sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
-
go to Hebrews. Chapter 10.
Hebrews 10 chapter mention
-
We've been Hebrews a lot. I feel like we've been coming to
-
Hebrews more than anything else for the past couple months even
-
Hebrews chapter 10. Verse 11.
Hebrews 10 chapter mention
-
Remember, Hebrews has probably a sermon, I think it's my theory.
-
I think Hebrews was a sermon and every priest stands daily at his
-
service, talking about the high priest in the temple and the
-
priests who would work in the temple, all the work.
-
That's got to be done. All the sacrifice for all of us
-
in Hebrews 10 11 and every priest stands daily at his
-
service offering repeatedly, the same sacrifices, which can never
-
take away sins, talk about exhausting, but when Christ had
-
offered, For all time, a single sacrifice for sins.
-
He sat down. At the right hand of God waiting
-
from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for
-
his feet. So not only does our King sit
-
down. All the other priests priests
-
got to work priest, gotta work. He's got to work.
-
This priest comes and says, I finished the work.
-
Nobody else could finish the work.
-
Why? Because bulls?
-
And goats their blood, it could never actually take away the
-
sins of human humans. It was a temporary sacrifice
-
that the Lord allowed until the Lamb of God would come.
-
And when he comes, he says, what does he say on the Is, it is
-
finished and he meant it mission accomplished Jesus did it.
-
Jesus, Paid It all. He says, now I'm going to sit
-
down, but not only am I going to sit down.
-
I'd like to prop my feet up. How shall I prop up my feet?
-
Oh, on my enemies. So, until his enemies be made
-
his footstool, why don't want to be his footstool and don't be as
-
enemy. Well how do I not be as enemy
-
respond by faith to the grace? That he's so freely.
-
Given God loves you. He doesn't want anybody to be
-
his enemies. But there Comes a Day, there
-
comes a time where we'll get to where he will come to judge the
-
living and the dead, the spiritually alive and the
-
spiritually dead, the physically dead and the physically alive,
-
everyone will be settled and sorted by the king and at that
-
moment you become footstool or you're a child in the father's
-
house. We're already secure by our
-
faith. In the grace of God.
-
His grace through faith is what saved us?
-
So, we don't, we don't we're not stacking up our winds.
-
Jesus stacked up the winds, we receive them.
-
They're credited it unto us as righteousness because of our
-
faith, but the old priests, they stood because the work was never
-
done. Jesus sits down because the work
-
is finished. And the right hand symbol
-
symbolizes. Why is he seated at the right
-
hand of God the Father Almighty, it symbolizes power.
-
The right hand symbolizes authority, Jesus is not just
-
alive but he is reigning over his church and because of it we
-
rejoice and we don't add to it, we add nothing to his kingship,
-
he's already complete. He's already finished.
-
Like we said, the Ascension is not abandonment, it is
-
empowerment. Jesus sits on his throne because
-
the work was accomplished on the cross and he is now established
-
his church to carry out his mission.
-
Last verse Ephesians Ephesians chapter 1.
Ephesians 1 chapter mention
-
Verse 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from
-
the dead and seated him at his own, right hand in Heavenly
-
places, the father seated Jesus at his right hand in Heavenly
-
places verse 21, far above all Rule and authority and power and
-
dominion. And every name that is named not
-
only in this age but also in the one to come and he put all
-
things under his feet. And gave him as head over all
-
things to the church, which is his body.
-
The fullness of him who fills all in all Jesus is reigning
-
over his church. He's raining over death.
-
He reigns over Hill. He reigns over the grave.
-
This is why you and I should do something about it.
-
I told you before we started to, seriously, how's the apartment
-
house? The Apostles Creed?
-
Is it going to be practical? Or is it just going to be like,
-
I now know more stuff? I have better Doctrine.
-
Well, congratulations. And yes, it's practical to
-
believe that Jesus ascended to believe that Jesus is seated at
-
the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
-
It's not just a knowing. Yeah, I know.
-
That's a fact. Does your life look like it?
-
If you really believe Jesus is reigning, if you really believe
-
Jesus, is at the right hand, then you're going to go do
-
something with it. This is why you and I should
-
tell everyone, it's good news. We do that with all kinds of
-
news, right? When you see stuff in the news,
-
I did. You see, I did you see where
-
they? Hey, did you see where Elon Musk
-
and Mark Zuckerberg? I'm going to fight in the
-
Octagon. Like that's fun.
-
That's good news. Like I'm excited about that.
-
That's probably going to be the highest grossing fight.
-
In the history of the world. Like it's it's going to be super
-
fun to watch these two guys, just I hope it's a good fight.
-
But you see what we do. You see something?
-
You see some good news. You see something you're excited
-
about. You tell somebody, we do the
-
same thing with Jesus. Hey, hey.
-
Did you see how did you know that Jesus is Lord?
-
Yeah, yeah, I know that. No, no.
-
Did you know that? He came to the Earth actually?
-
Yeah, I know that but did. Yeah.
-
But did you see that? He's actually ascended.
-
Did you see the he's seated at the right hand of God the Father
-
Almighty? Did you see that?
-
He's coming back to judge the living and the dead?
-
Yeah, no no. But did you?
-
If you're excited, if you believe in something you'll talk
-
about it. When you're filled with the Holy
-
Spirit, the holy spirit is always going to glorify Jesus
-
Through you. He will overflow out of you,
-
rivers of Living Water. You can't contain a river.
-
You can't hold it back. Holy Spirit won't possess us as
-
a, whereas a demon would like you to throw someone into the
-
fire and try and harm them always fear.
-
It won't turn you into a puppet and yet, When you invite the
-
Holy Spirit to fill you, you will find a.
-
He joyfully fills you with power and your love.
-
For Jesus is swells even more. And now man.
-
You mean I don't have to White Knuckle this whole mission
-
thing? No, he provides everything.
-
He provides the fuel, he provides the desire, he provides
-
the love, he provides it all. Hey, did you see the news?
-
Did you see the Jesus saved us from our sins?
-
Chris Kayla. Could you please prepare the
-
Miss Forrest. We're going to receive
-
communion. Did you see did you believe have
-
you responded? Whenever we come across somebody
-
who doesn't respond to the gospel, if they're resistant to
-
it? That's okay.
-
We don't stop. We don't get discouraged.
-
We're going to well, I tried that one time saying there's a
-
whole world who needs the gospel.
-
There's a whole world who needs to walk in deeper faithfulness.
-
They're believers who are living as orphans right now.
-
Not connected into the body of Christ Living in isolation they
-
need restoration they need to be brought back into the father's
-
house as a product. Eagles.
-
So that we can put the robe on them and the ring on their hand
-
and sandals on their feet, and celebrate them with the Feast of
-
God. And this is the table that we're
-
getting ready to eat from the blood of Jesus in the body of
-
Jesus. So, let's prepare our hearts as
-
Chris and Kayla service the elements.
-
Now, as we go prayerfully into communion, Eagles.
-
So that we can put the robe on them and the ring on their hand
-
and sandals on their feet, and celebrate them with the Feast of
-
God. And this is the table that we're
-
getting ready to eat from the blood of Jesus in the body of
-
Jesus. So, let's prepare our hearts as
-
Chris and Kayla service the elements.
-
Now, as we go prayerfully into communion,
