  1. Matthew Chapter 11 when verse 25 at that time Jesus declared, I

    Matthew 11 chapter mention

  2. thank you Father, Lord of heaven and earth that you have.

  3. Hidden these things from the. Wise and understanding and.

  4. Revealed them to little children.

  5. Yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.

  6. All things have been handed over to me by my father, and no one

  7. knows the son except the father, and no one knows the.

  8. Father except the Son. And anyone to whom the son.

  9. Chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and

  10. are heavy laden, and I will give.

  11. You rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn

  12. from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart.

  13. And you will find rest for your souls.

  14. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

  15. Jesus, thank you so much for your word.

  16. Here, Heavenly Father, we pray that you would bring revelation

  17. on the. Words of Jesus this morning on

  18. your word that you sent, that your church would be equipped,

  19. that we would have. Revelation and understanding and

  20. that we would have the. Very thing that Jesus calls us

  21. to hear. That we would be like.

  22. Children who come to our father that we wouldn't be.

  23. Wise in our own eyes that we wouldn't be understanding in our

  24. own eyes. But then we would truly have

  25. love for. You honor for you.

  26. Humility before you so that we could experience.

  27. The freedom that comes with it, rolling off our burdens onto the

  28. one who carries. All burdens of the whole world,

  29. Jesus, be glorified. Through the preaching of your.

  30. Word, Holy Spirit, I. Pray for your help as as you

  31. minister. To your people.

  32. I pray God that. The word would be clear.

  33. I pray that it would accomplish as you said it.

  34. Would everything you intended. For it to do in Jesus name we

  35. thank you Amen. One of the things that's

  36. interesting, you know, whenever we quote that promise as we.

  37. Should that the word of God? Will not return void, but it

  38. will go out and accomplish what the Lord intended for to to

  39. accomplish. Sometimes that can be taken to

  40. be only A1 sided thing, but the other point to understand there

  41. is that another thing the word of God is going to accomplish

  42. is. For the hard heart it.

  43. Is going to continually. Build up judgement against that

  44. person, the Word of God. When it comes to a person.

  45. When their heart is already. Hardened, they can continue to

  46. harden their heart, even. More, that also is the Lord's

  47. will. Being fulfilled against the

  48. prideful well, pastor, I thought the.

  49. Lord wants to save that person. He does.

  50. And yet God deliberately opposes the proud.

  51. So this is the danger. Of pride.

  52. And this is this. Is why.

  53. Whenever you sense any any. Pride in your life.

  54. It it should be. Something that that goes above

  55. and beyond to. Grab your attention to go.

  56. This doesn't lead anywhere good. And this seed needs to be.

  57. Ripped out that tiny weed when it comes up in the flower bed.

  58. Now is the time to pull it. Not later today when the weather

  59. is cooled off. Not tomorrow.

  60. Now is the time. To rip that thing out.

  61. And you go, man, it's so deep. It's going to rip up the whole

  62. flower bed. Then by all means, now is the

  63. time to. Rip it all out and destroy the

  64. whole flower bed so that something could still be saved.

  65. So that the flower bed could still possibly be saved because

  66. God's word. Is going to do what?

  67. He sent it to do just like it did with Pharaoh.

  68. Pharaoh hardened his heart. God sends the word of God to

  69. Pharaoh and. And Pharaoh hardened his heart,

  70. and Pharaoh hardened his heart, and Pharaoh hardened his heart,

  71. and then. The scripture tells us.

  72. And God. Hardened Pharaoh's heart.

  73. You go hang on. That's not.

  74. Fair God opposes the proud. And there there came a time of

  75. mercy, there came a time of grace.

  76. I mean, how many plagues? Do you have to get?

  77. That's called grace. People see the plagues only as

  78. wrath, and yet they're also a grace and a mercy and God's

  79. patience saying. It's building, it's building,

  80. it's building, it's building. And now the full.

  81. Judgement comes against Pharaoh as his son is killed and all the

  82. sons of Egypt so. We want to approach.

  83. The Word of God with humility. Now in this verse we just

  84. finished Jesus bringing what what are called the the woes,

  85. WOE. Where he is proclaiming

  86. judgement on these Jewish. Towns and he's saying woe to

  87. you, woe to you. Your condemnation is great.

  88. It's horrible. And then he says.

  89. It'll be worse for you than it is for these gentile cities.

  90. And the Jewish? Heroes would have been.

  91. Scandalized and offended and shocked.

  92. And then he. Double S down with Capernaum.

  93. The city he lives in because they had him.

  94. Living and walking among them. And he says Capernaum, for you

  95. punishment will be. Worse than it was for Sodom.

  96. And that would have just. Blown people's minds wide.

  97. Open. Because it doesn't get any

  98. worse. Than Sodom and Gomorrah in

  99. everyone's mind like this. Is the pinnacle we still.

  100. Reference Sodom and Gomorrah we still reference.

  101. Them as wickedness, and yet. Jesus recognizes Capernaum.

  102. Is going to receive more. Judgement and more punishment We

  103. understand that there are degrees of punishment and

  104. suffering in hell. How does it work?

  105. Not our jurisdiction, but the point is the scripture makes it.

  106. Clear in multiple places that there are degrees of punishment.

  107. How is it judged? 'Cause hell sounds like hell.

  108. Separation from God is separation.

  109. From God and. Still, there will be degrees.

  110. Of punishment based on what? Based upon the light.

  111. That you have received. And that should scare every.

  112. One of us in this room, because we've got a lot of light, that

  113. should scare. Americans in general who have.

  114. Preachers on television. And preachers on the radio.

  115. And preachers in the pulpit. And I don't like this.

  116. Church, so I think. I'll go up the road to that

  117. church and I don't know about that one, so I'll go up to this

  118. one. That's a lot of light available.

  119. Light everywhere you turn, there's.

  120. Light. Now we're grieved by the

  121. darkness. That we see in our.

  122. Nation as we should be, because we want more light.

  123. More light? How much is enough?

  124. All of it. Jesus should own everything

  125. let's take over the world with the love of God and and the

  126. Kingdom and the. Fruit of the Spirit, so there's

  127. a lot of light. There, but with.

  128. That comes a lot of responsibility we have.

  129. Bibles. How many Bibles are in your

  130. home? How many are in my home?

  131. We can have His Word in our heart.

  132. So that's a lot of. Light and he's saying,

  133. Capernaum, you've had a lot of light, you've had a lot of.

  134. Opportunity, and because of it. Your lack of obedience to the

  135. light that you've been given. Will be.

  136. Your judgement in the same. Way there are rewards.

  137. In heaven and in the eternal Kingdom.

  138. I thought heaven is heaven. I just want to get in.

  139. Well, your reward won't be great.

  140. There are degrees of reward. How's all that work?

  141. Don't know, not really my. Jurisdiction, but.

  142. There are rewards and. Degrees of.

  143. Reward in heaven there are. Rewards and degrees of

  144. punishment. In Hell.

  145. So God is just in all that he. Does It's not just heaven or

  146. hell, there's also. Degrees there.

  147. So Jesus has been judging these places.

  148. He says it'll be more tolerable on the day of judgment.

  149. For Sodom than it will be for. Capernaum at that time, Jesus.

  150. Declared. Now Jesus begins to pray openly

  151. and publicly. So he's.

  152. Rebuked the Pharisees for praying openly and publicly.

  153. But is he really rebuking open public prayer?

  154. No, He's rebuking hypocrisy. They were praying because.

  155. They wanted to. Look like somebody special.

  156. The motive of their heart is what he was condemning and

  157. correcting. Well, how do you know?

  158. Well, you know, and the Lord. Knows.

  159. I might be. Able to deceive you.

  160. I might be able to preach and. Pray publicly and you go.

  161. Man, man, he's such a godly man. Well, Joe Michael knows.

  162. The Lord knows and the. Scary thing is of what if John

  163. Michael doesn't know? What if he goes so far as even

  164. to deceive? Himself.

  165. And that's the scary place that you don't want to get to.

  166. That's why we always want to pull those weeds.

  167. As soon as we see him, that's. Why we always want to be humble

  168. and. Receptive when others come to.

  169. Us with concern and correction. But.

  170. Jesus begins to pray publicly. I thank you, Father, Lord of

  171. heaven and earth, so he's praying and everyone can hear

  172. this. Prayer.

  173. That you have hidden. These things, What things?

  174. The things he was just talking about.

  175. The woes, the judgments. That he's put on these villages.

  176. And on these cities. And on the truth.

  177. Behind it, he's saying, Father, I thank you that you have that

  178. you've done it the way that. You've done it so that those who

  179. think that there's something will be nothing and that those

  180. who are actually humble and don't think that there anything

  181. will be lifted. Up Jesus.

  182. Saying, Father, I thank you for doing it that way.

  183. I love the way you've done it. Father, because it's perfect.

  184. And because it's right, you have hidden these things from the

  185. wise and understanding and revealed.

  186. Them to little children Yes, Father, for such was your

  187. gracious will. So when Jesus is talking about

  188. the. Wise and understanding he's

  189. being. Sarcastic.

  190. This is sanctified sarcasm. I'd like to think I specialize

  191. in that. I hope it's a sanctified sarcasm

  192. and not just a fleshly sarcasm. But when he says.

  193. The wise and understanding. He's being sarcastic, he's

  194. saying. That the father is.

  195. Hidden these things from people who think that they're wise.

  196. And think that. They have great understanding.

  197. But when people are actually. Wise.

  198. When they actually have understanding.

  199. They have a fear of God. And that's what was missing.

  200. Here, that's what's missing to the people that Jesus condemns

  201. and he rebukes and he rejects. There's No Fear of God in their

  202. eyes, and that's why the judgment.

  203. Is going to be so great for. For those in the United.

  204. States for those who sit in church pews or.

  205. Plastic chairs every single Sunday whenever there's not

  206. actual fruit. Of.

  207. Repentance when there's not actual humility, when there's

  208. not an actual fear of the Lord, is there fear of the Lord?

  209. In your eyes, because the fear of the Lord is the beginning of

  210. wisdom, if I really want wisdom. Proverbs 910 tells me the.

  211. Fear of the. Lord is the beginning of wisdom

  212. and the knowledge of the. Holy One is understanding.

  213. I've got wisdom. I've got understanding.

  214. Is there a fear of the? Lord, in your eyes.

  215. Because that'll affect everything that'll.

  216. Change everything about your life.

  217. Wisdom and knowledge revolve around God.

  218. So imagine, just like our solar system, everything's.

  219. Revolving around the sun if if, if God is the sun, these planets

  220. and these moons and all these things that.

  221. Revolve around the sun. These are wisdom and knowledge.

  222. And his goodness and his. Truth.

  223. And if you don't fear God, then you're not in that orbit and you

  224. don't have knowledge of Him, and you don't have knowledge of His.

  225. Holiness is what proverbs. Says knowledge of the Holy One.

  226. Not just knowledge of God's existence, but knowledge of the

  227. holiness. Of God, and that's why you act

  228. the way you do. Fear of God will cause.

  229. You to act differently knowledge.

  230. Of the holiness of God. Will impact your decision

  231. making. Your social media will look.

  232. Different. Your family culture will look

  233. different. Your language will sound

  234. different. You'll train your children

  235. differently. You'll love your wife with

  236. gentleness and kindness. You'll respect your husband with

  237. honor and submission. And you'll hear this preaching.

  238. And be convicted. Instead of hoping that someone

  239. else is convicted as I went through that list.

  240. That's what wisdom and understanding actually look

  241. like. I'm not going.

  242. Mm. Hmm.

  243. Hope you heard that, Natalie. I'm going.

  244. Oh Lord. Lord, is it me and Lord's going,

  245. Yeah, it's. For you, it's for you now.

  246. Love for neighbor? Will create a motivation for

  247. them to hear. And respond.

  248. But love for God and fear of God will always make sure that I

  249. look to me first, that I take the log.

  250. Out of my own eye and then I can help my brother.

  251. With the speck in his instead of oh.

  252. Let me, let me help you with that.

  253. There's a plank sticking out of your face, Joe Michael.

  254. That was the language. Jesus used, That's comical,

  255. that's funny. The audience probably would have

  256. laughed. He'd be like, you got a log in

  257. your eye, like that's a funny visual.

  258. Oh, but let me get the splinter out of yours.

  259. But God has hidden his. Truth from the proud.

  260. And he has. Revealed it to the humble God

  261. shines his light. For you.

  262. But if you won't, humble. Yourself and receive it.

  263. Then his light just becomes more evidence.

  264. Of your guilt on the. Judgment Day.

  265. And he goes, Look at all the light.

  266. Look at all the light you go. Oh.

  267. Look at all the opportunity. Look at all the scripture.

  268. Look at all the revelation. Look at all the.

  269. Things that you knew. Look at all the things you could

  270. have gotten right on a. Paper test, but life is.

  271. Not a paper test. We won't stand in front of the

  272. Lord on judgment day and take a paper test.

  273. I can get all these theological answers correct.

  274. Let me in or give me a great reward.

  275. That's not how. He'll judge.

  276. He'll judge based upon the light.

  277. That you have so the man who's never heard the.

  278. Gospel who still lives? In the the Bush of the Amazon.

  279. And he'll die in that darkness. Does he go to?

  280. Hell outside of Christ. It's a simple answer.

  281. The answer is yes. Everyone goes to hell outside

  282. of. Christ.

  283. Why? Because nature itself will lead

  284. people to Lord the creation. Itself is designed by God.

  285. To lead people to their creator and yet nature.

  286. Itself is not the greatest. Light possible Is there the

  287. greatest light possible is? The clarification of the gospel

  288. into the hearts of mankind. But nature is not nothing.

  289. It's not no light, but it's not the brighter.

  290. Light so there's an appropriate judgement.

  291. There's an appropriate punishment to accommodate that

  292. versus the person who's heard the gospel and heard the gospel

  293. and heard the gospel and heard the gospel. 11 missionary once

  294. said no person. Deserves to hear the gospel

  295. twice until. Everyone has heard it once, and

  296. how many times have you and I heard the truths of God and the

  297. revelation of God? And we just love to marinate.

  298. On those things. And there's nothing wrong with

  299. loving God's truths. And yet, sometimes this can

  300. just. Become endless navel gazing

  301. really, and just fill it. Waterlogging.

  302. Ourselves with things that. We're not bearing fruit in you

  303. learn something new, you get new.

  304. Revelation Are you just excited to teach that?

  305. Revelation to somebody else. Or has that?

  306. Revelation brought fruit in your life because I know preachers, I

  307. know people, and I've been in that.

  308. Same rut before where? I'm my my time with the Lord is

  309. like, oh, I can't wait to. Tell that to somebody.

  310. Man. As a preacher, as a.

  311. Teacher that's that might be an A temptation I have even more

  312. so. Than some of you where?

  313. Am I? Oh, I got to share that.

  314. Oh, I got to share that. It's, it's fire.

  315. Shut up in my bones. Is that what it is?

  316. Is it really the Lord? Doing that Or is it just you not

  317. being humble enough to look at? Yourself and say Lord.

  318. Apply it to me, Lord, apply it to me.

  319. Make it real for me so. It's not just knowledge.

  320. But it's actually connected to him.

  321. The fear of the Lord and His Holiness.

  322. God's system is perfect, Romans. 8 and 29 and. 30 Spell this out

  323. for us. We know that God foreknew who

  324. would be humble, so he predestined to save who would be

  325. humble. Then he called the humble, and

  326. then he justifies the humble, and then he glorifies the humble

  327. to God predestined people. Of course he did.

  328. Absolutely he did. The scripture says that he did.

  329. What does that mean exactly? Well, he foreknew.

  330. Who would respond? He foreknew, so those are the

  331. ones that he then saves and those are the ones that he then.

  332. Calls and that he justifies, and that he glorifies.

  333. He also knew who wouldn't. Receive, so he lets.

  334. Them have what they want. Which is more of themselves?

  335. And their own wisdom, and their own understanding.

  336. And Jesus is thankful for this. He's thankful, Father, I thank.

  337. You that you did it this way and if Jesus is.

  338. Thankful you and I should be. Thankful too.

  339. Not begrudging these points, not going Why did God?

  340. Set it up this way. I wish he had done it

  341. differently. Jesus is thankful.

  342. And we should be too. He calls it.

  343. He says, Father, this was your gracious will.

  344. How is this gracious? How is this gracious to people?

  345. It's gracious because everything is grace.

  346. You might be tempted to read this and think it's unfair to

  347. the proud, but that would miss the greater point, and that the

  348. greater point is the fact that anyone is even allowed to.

  349. Breathe. In sin.

  350. That's grace and mercy. The fact that anybody exists.

  351. At all is already a grace and a mercy, so the fact that the

  352. Father would. Reveal anything to anyone is

  353. incredible, like we were saying. Earlier gratitude.

  354. Gratitude. Instead of my eyes on all the

  355. prayers that haven't been answered.

  356. And don't forget what the Lord has done for you.

  357. Don't get your eyes. Off of who he is and how.

  358. Much he's given to you. Jesus is thankful that the

  359. Father has done it this way. So the response is the the

  360. response of the humble is not ha ha.

  361. I've received and you haven't received.

  362. The response of the humble is always thank you so much God,

  363. thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, Lord.

  364. I didn't deserve it, but you provided it.

  365. The prideful don't care. They don't.

  366. Care they disregard, they go. Oh, another option.

  367. Oh, another possibility. But.

  368. Jesus makes clear there's not multiple options.

  369. There's not multiple possibilities.

  370. He says no one knows the father except the Son.

  371. And no one knows the son except the father, and he says I have

  372. to reveal. The father to you again another

  373. clarification. There is no.

  374. Other world. Religion who worships the same

  375. God as Christians we worship. Different gods.

  376. The Gods of. Israel and the Old Testament.

  377. They were following the the true trinitarian God, but a modern

  378. day. Jew.

  379. Is not worshipping the same God? They are not well, we we kind of

  380. worship the same God like they. Just worship the Father, but we

  381. worship. The Son.

  382. You can't worship one person in the Trinity unless you want to

  383. be a cult member. So we're not worshiping the same

  384. God because the God is Father's son and spirit.

  385. Muslims. Well, they just call God Allah,

  386. but it's the same God. No it's not.

  387. These are. Idols.

  388. This is what idolatry is. You make God in your image.

  389. Well, to me God is this. To me, God is that Like who are

  390. you or your God? Apparently because.

  391. You can make stuff up now you can just create things.

  392. That's idolatry. Everything outside of

  393. Christianity is idolatry. Spoken like a Christian.

  394. Yes, I'll own it. I'll take it.

  395. Spoken like somebody who points all glory to Jesus and says

  396. that. Jesus is King, so this is

  397. gracious the way the Father. Has done this because.

  398. It works. It works perfectly.

  399. The prideful get what they want, which was themselves, and they

  400. reject him. And then on judgement day they

  401. don't say. They don't even.

  402. Get to say no fair he goes gave you everything you wanted oh you

  403. ever wanted was you and. They go, you got me there, like.

  404. If the case is going to be airtight, there won't be some

  405. defense that goes actually, Lord, hang on a second.

  406. There, there won't be some way out.

  407. The Lord is more fair. Than you and I.

  408. He is more just than any judge. He's perfect.

  409. In all of his ways and all of his judgements.

  410. So This is why. Jesus can condemn these cities,

  411. and it's right. And it's just because they had.

  412. So much light. But their pride was so.

  413. Great that they wouldn't receive.

  414. They were wise in their own eyes.

  415. And they were busy. They had to continue doing their

  416. own thing. He says you revealed it to

  417. children. You revealed these truths to

  418. little. Children.

  419. Little children, what do they like?

  420. They're unassuming. They know that they don't run

  421. the show. Or own the room they're.

  422. Humble and they are hungry for knowledge.

  423. They accept the. Truth as they are.

  424. Told We tell little children anything, they'll believe us.

  425. They'll just believe us, right? There's all kinds of things.

  426. Adults tell little. Children, they just believe

  427. them. And keep it going for years.

  428. They'll just keep believing it. They're humble.

  429. They're. Unassuming, but that's not the.

  430. Case entire and Sidon and then. Also even in Capernaum.

  431. That's not the case with many people.

  432. Many people, they might be around the Kingdom all the time,

  433. but they aren't really in the. Kingdom and this is the danger

  434. this. Is why preaching to people who

  435. are around the Kingdom all the time I think is much more.

  436. Difficult than people who are totally out of it.

  437. I think the lines are much more. Clear.

  438. I talked to you about this at Easter.

  439. I think you're the hardest people in the world.

  440. To preach to, I think, ministry in the Bible.

  441. Belt is more difficult than anywhere else.

  442. Oh. That's hard ground.

  443. Yeah, I know. But.

  444. At least everybody knows. Everybody's clear.

  445. No, I'm a Muslim. Get out of.

  446. Here with that Christianity, OK, at least we're clear on what's

  447. going on. You know, you go to more liberal

  448. areas. In the United States.

  449. You go, are you a Christian? They'll plainly and and easily

  450. say, no, I'm not, I'm not. And you go, oh, OK, but anywhere

  451. in the American South, you're a Christian.

  452. Oh, yeah. Like, tell me more about that.

  453. That's awesome. Well, you know, aren't we all

  454. OK? No, we're not actually.

  455. Well, I am. My grandma bought the.

  456. Pew at the church and yeah, we go, we go to.

  457. That's always funny to me. We go to such and such.

  458. Oh, OK. Like, well, tell me about that.

  459. And I'm just like. Genuinely being inquisitive and

  460. friendly with somebody. They're like, well, I haven't

  461. been in a while. I'm like, oh, OK.

  462. Turns out like Christmas and Easter like but we go there but

  463. people. Believe that, like people think

  464. that they're a part of local congregations and they'll say

  465. that and they don't. They're not.

  466. They don't even think they're being dishonest, like to them

  467. they're not lying. Like no, no.

  468. We go to such and such. Oh, that's awesome, man.

  469. So you know, Bob y'all, y'all spend a lot of time.

  470. We haven't been there in a while.

  471. And then the truth comes out like.

  472. Christmas and Easter preachers, we have a word for that.

  473. They're called creasters. It's like.

  474. The The creasters are coming. Christmas and Easter like.

  475. Are you, are you mocking them? Maybe a little bit.

  476. Yeah. It's sanctified sarcasm.

  477. It's funny. It's not funny.

  478. And it is what it is. And you love them like I'm here

  479. for you, I care for you. And also I can call.

  480. A spade a spade, but it's dangerous to be.

  481. Around these things all the time to have.

  482. All this light. And then to squander it to not

  483. do. Anything with it like Capernaum

  484. did? Oh.

  485. Capernaum. I can't believe it, man.

  486. If I had been there, what would I have done?

  487. Well. You have the Lord of glory

  488. living in you, so you say, So what?

  489. Are you doing with them? What does that look like?

  490. Knowledge of the Bible is not the same thing as knowledge.

  491. Of the Holy One. Knowing about God isn't the same

  492. thing as knowing God. One will make you proud, the

  493. other will make you humble. I've got knowledge.

  494. I've got knowledge. Knowledge will puff you up.

  495. I'm puffed up, man. I know so much stuff.

  496. That's an advantage that I have. I don't know a lot of stuff.

  497. So I got that. Working in my favor one makes

  498. you proud. Knowledge can just make.

  499. You proud, but knowledge of the Holy One will make you humble

  500. and then? We'll just hit this part quickly

  501. where Jesus is saying. Just want to point out.

  502. Jesus calls the Father. He says he's the Lord.

  503. Of heaven and earth that means. That the Father sees all, the

  504. Father knows all, every heart, every motive.

  505. Every thought, every holy and every unholy desire.

  506. And now Jesus says in verse 27, All things have been handed over

  507. to me by my Father. So.

  508. Everything. All authority in heaven.

  509. And Earth, he says later. In Matthew 28, we'll finally get

  510. there one day, he says He's been given to me.

  511. Why the? Father loves Jesus, He is deeply

  512. pleased with Jesus, and because of that he gives Jesus the name

  513. that is above. Every name and he gives.

  514. Jesus, the nations as his inheritance.

  515. That's what we read in Psalm 2 earlier.

  516. He says, I'll give you the nations as your inheritance.

  517. They'll be yours. And for those who are humble.

  518. They'll be. Protected, they'll come into him

  519. as their shelter and then for. Those who aren't, they'll get.

  520. The rod of iron. And the scripture says he will

  521. break them to pieces. Humility.

  522. And pride? No one knows.

  523. The Father, except the Son. And no one knows.

  524. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the.

  525. Father except the son, and he says.

  526. Into anyone to. Whom the son chooses to reveal

  527. him? That's verse 27 as.

  528. Well, all. Things have been handed over to

  529. me by my father and no one knows the father.

  530. No one knows the Son except for the Father.

  531. And no one knows the Father except for the Son.

  532. And to anyone and anyone to whom the son.

  533. Chooses to reveal him that. Was the point I was making

  534. earlier, religions that don't have Jesus, people who don't

  535. love Jesus, people don't pray in Jesus name, then they don't have

  536. the Father. I think they've got the Father,

  537. they just don't know the Son. That's not how that.

  538. Works, Jesus says if you. Don't have me.

  539. You don't have my father. He says And you can't know the

  540. Father except that I choose to reveal the Father to you if

  541. Jesus doesn't choose to reveal the Father to you.

  542. You can't know the father. This is basic reading

  543. comprehension. We're not shoehorning that in

  544. there. That's.

  545. Just what he said. Real plain stuff.

  546. And then that raises this question though.

  547. OK, so who does? Jesus reveal the Father to.

  548. Who does Jesus reveal the Father to?

  549. Well, that's easy. We've already answered that to

  550. children. To the humble, to the.

  551. Hungry what? He told.

  552. Us in Matthew chapter 5. To the poor in spirit.

    Matthew 5 chapter mention

  553. So who does he choose? What does he just randomly

  554. picking here? How's he?

  555. Doing this thing. Is he just rolling the dice?

  556. No. Jesus chooses to reveal the

  557. Father. To all who are humble.

  558. Man, how does this work? Is it the chicken or the egg?

  559. Is it the cart? Is it the horse?

  560. God predestined those he foreknew.

  561. He foreknew. Who was going to be humble?

  562. Who was going to be receptive? Who was going to be prideful?

  563. So then he predestined that he would save them.

  564. J Michael Whatever. Are we Calvinists?

  565. Are we? Armenian We're Christians and we

  566. understand and recognize that there is mystery in the

  567. Scripture and there are things. Out of our jurisdiction.

  568. And it's intended. To be that way.

  569. And I and I, I don't come to the conclusions that some come to in

  570. either of those camps. If you say I don't.

  571. Know what I don't know? What Calvinists or Armenian

  572. means? Don't worry about it.

  573. Google it if you. Feel like it, but don't hurt

  574. yourself in the process. But the point is.

  575. Well, are we predestined? Are we not predestined?

  576. And, well, the. The scriptures are the

  577. scriptures. They're good.

  578. And faithful and true. And at the same time, there's

  579. mystery involved in. These things.

  580. But the point is, we can choose to be humble.

  581. And when you choose. Humility, then.

  582. Jesus chooses to reveal the Father to you.

  583. Who does? The son choose to reveal to

  584. children, to humble, to hungry. To the poor in spirit, to those

  585. who actually. Know that they need him.

  586. Those, he foreknew, would receive the truth.

  587. And then we come to verse 28. Come to me.

  588. All who labor. And are heavy laden and I will

  589. give you. Rest.

  590. So he's given all these warnings.

  591. He's just threatened these cities and really condemned

  592. these cities. And told them what will happen

  593. on judgment day for them and then he explains that the.

  594. Father, he says. Father, I thank you the way

  595. you've done this, that you have made it so that.

  596. Capernaum will be judged harshly.

  597. But that those who are. Humble and hungry out in the

  598. world, the Gentiles. The pagans, the filthy godless

  599. that the Jews hate that when they repent.

  600. When they're humble, that you're going to save them.

  601. I thank you, Father, that. You've done it this way.

  602. Why? Because Jesus hates the people.

  603. Capernaum No. Because Jesus hates pride.

  604. Because Jesus is the. Epitome of humility, God.

  605. Himself wraps up in flesh. Joins us in the dirt.

  606. Lets us spit in his face. Lets us Pierce his hands and his

  607. feet. And mock him, punch him, rip out

  608. his beard and crucify him. When you're that God with that

  609. humility, you don't have much. Tolerance for pride.

  610. You hate it and you go. You got no ground to stand on.

  611. So he says, Father, I thank you that you've done it this way.

  612. And now the listeners. Who are?

  613. Afraid like this thing is building this massive.

  614. Wave of the of the clarity. And the, and the holiness of God

  615. has been building the wrath of God and all and the humble, but

  616. there's humble listeners in this audience too.

  617. There's humble disciples who are like, master, what's the way out

  618. for me? And now he turns here at the

  619. last moment. Come to me.

  620. Oh, you who Labor. And are heavy laden and I'll

  621. give you rest. What's the answer come to?

  622. Jesus is the answer. Come to me, come to me.

  623. Don't just learn about me, but come to me.

  624. You who labor and are heavy laden.

  625. And I will give you. Rest the words labor heavy laden

  626. this. This audience would have

  627. understood this. They would have pictured the

  628. animals that they work with. They would have seen themselves.

  629. And the and the hard labor that they have.

  630. During the day, the physical labor.

  631. They didn't have computer. Jobs, they got stuff that.

  632. They're they're earning everything by their sweat, he

  633. says. Come to me.

  634. I'll give you rest take. My yoke upon.

  635. You and learn from me. For I am gentle and lowly in

  636. heart, and you will find. Rest for your souls.

  637. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

  638. Jesus is gentle and Jesus. Is lowly in heart, man Lord.

  639. Could you say that about me? Gentle and lowly in heart.

  640. I'm going to be strong in heart. I'm going to be high in heart.

  641. I'm going to be full of heart. Jesus says, hey, I'm gentle, I'm

  642. lowly in heart. He's just so quick to take the

  643. low spot. Which is why the father.

  644. Is so eager to promote him and say all.

  645. Authority in heaven and earth. And he says whoever doesn't.

  646. Do right by my son will not do right by me.

  647. I love my son. He just takes the lowest place.

  648. He's eventually going to bow. Before the Father in the garden

  649. and. Say, Father, not my will.

  650. But yours be done. Not my will I'll take.

  651. I'll keep. Taking the low spot at the

  652. table. And the father says I'm.

  653. Going to give you the nations as your inheritance because.

  654. Because you didn't assume anything.

  655. I give you everything. Come to me, all you.

  656. Who are who? Labor.

  657. And are heavy laden. How are you laboring?

  658. And you're heavy laden. With sin.

  659. With the pride of life. With the lust of the eyes, with

  660. the lust of the flesh, I'll give you rest.

  661. Jesus gives deep rest, rest. From the exhausting sin of pride

  662. rest from the demanding sin that masters every single person who.

  663. Hasn't surrendered to Jesus. Why?

  664. Because. Sin is harsh, sin is.

  665. Hard. Sin is heavy.

  666. Jesus knows that, and he still invites us in all of.

  667. Our hard heartedness take. My yoke upon me and learn from

  668. me. Jesus has a yoke.

  669. There is one. But then he goes on to say, but

  670. it's easy, it fits perfectly and he says, and guess who's going

  671. to do all? The pulling.

  672. We yoke up to Jesus, and then Jesus pulls us forward if.

  673. You're connected to him. He's good and you get his

  674. strength. Jesus is humble and he will

  675. teach you to be like him. He knows the Father and if you

  676. will be like a child then Jesus will reveal the Father to you

  677. and you will have rest where for your soul a body at rest can

  678. certainly be refreshing. And we'll get a nap this

  679. afternoon. That will be refreshing, but a

  680. soul at. Rest is another thing entirely.

  681. The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want.

  682. That's a soul at rest that's speaking there.

  683. The Lord is my shepherd. What a relief.

  684. What a relief. And because.

  685. Of that I'll have no needs. He makes me.

  686. Oh, he's he's pretty bossy. Huh.

  687. What's he make me do? He makes me lie down in green

  688. pastures. Oh, he leads me.

  689. Where does he? Lead me besides still waters.

  690. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of

  691. righteousness. Why?

  692. For his name's sake. For me, because I'm the

  693. greatest. Well, he does love you, but he

  694. does it for. His name's sake, and even though

  695. I walk. Through the valley of the shadow

  696. of death, I'll fear no evil for you.

  697. Are with me your rod. Your staff, they comfort me.

  698. What else does he do? The soul at rest knows.

  699. You prepare a table before me in the presence.

  700. Of my enemies you anoint my head with oil my cup.

  701. Overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall

  702. follow me all the. Days of my life, and I shall

  703. dwell in the House of. The Lord forever, that's the

  704. soul at rest. So I.

  705. Don't feel like a? Soul at rest?

  706. Well then, all the more. Reason to go to Jesus.

  707. Come to me, come to me, come to me.

  708. What's the promise Psalm? 23 is the promise.

  709. That's the shepherd. That's what it looks like.

  710. That's what it feels like. It looks like something.

  711. It feels like something. And if you don't recognize that?

  712. If you haven't. Walked in that if you.

  713. Haven't tasted. That if you haven't seen that,

  714. then you haven't tasted and seen and walked with Jesus yet you

  715. thought you did. You were deceived.

  716. You were confused. No condemnation for any of that.

  717. This is a good news moment. The good news moment is come to

  718. me, but coming. To Jesus looks like something.

  719. It looks like an obedience. It looks like a humility.

  720. He leads. And that implies that you

  721. follow. He leads me over there.

  722. Does it say he grabs me and drags me kicking and screaming?

  723. Reject your own wisdom, reject your own understanding and enjoy

  724. freedom from shame, freedom from fear of man, freedom from the.

  725. Slavery of self. My yoke is easy.

  726. My burden is light. Have you taken Jesus's yoke?

  727. Upon you, really. Have you carried his burden?

  728. Really. Are you yoked to Jesus?

  729. Right. Now Chris and Kayla.

  730. Are going to serve us the communion elements this morning.

  731. And we're going to take this moment.

  732. To to pray we're. Going to take these.

  733. Next few moments to prepare our hearts.

  734. That we wouldn't. Take the body and the blood of

  735. Christ. In an unworthy.

  736. Way like we said last. Week that we wouldn't trample

  737. upon Christ. He's the only thing standing

  738. between US and the Cliff. The car that's driving, he steps

  739. out in the way and says, hey, go ahead and stop, go ahead and put

  740. it in. Put it in park.

  741. I'm going to help you turn this thing around and go.

  742. The other direction if we were to trample.

  743. Christ, there's nothing else. There's nothing else.

  744. There's no one else. There's not a guardrail, there's

  745. not a speed bump. It's only Christ.

  746. So let's come to a full. Stop.

  747. Let's honor him. Honor him in your heart.

  748. Figure it out for yourself. I'm not going to lead you in a.

  749. Step by step, word by word, prayer, take your humility to

  750. the Lord. And if you have pride, take your

  751. pride to the Lord. Adam, can you bring up the

  752. background music for us? We're.

  753. Just going to have. A a moment.

  754. Or two of silence. Or I'm gonna shut up.

  755. I mean as you pray.
