  1. So we're turning in our Bibles to Matthew chapter 14.

    Matthew 14 chapter mention

  2. We're finishing chapter 14, remember, still in the same 48

  3. hours here, Jesus here is John the Baptist eyes.

  4. He says, all right, I'm going to I'm going to go get a loan.

  5. He shows up, thousands show up because they heard that he had

  6. shown up there. He heals everybody.

  7. Then he feeds the Scripture says 5000 men, and that doesn't

  8. include the potentially up to some, say maybe 25,000 people.

  9. I don't know how you know, does the miracle really become that

  10. much greater 5000 versus 25,000? The point is the Lord is the

  11. provider. And then he sends his disciples.

  12. He says, hey, get in the boat, go across, the day is finally

  13. done. He sends them, and now he comes

  14. walking to them. On the water.

  15. On top of the water. And now we come to where they

  16. have finally landed. In verse 34, they land in Kiss

  17. Center at the other side of the lake.

  18. Verse 34. And when they had crossed over,

  19. they came to land at Gesseneret. And when the men of that place

  20. recognized him, they sent around to all that region, and brought

  21. to him all who were sick, and implored him that they might

  22. only touch the fringe of his garment, and as many as touched

  23. it were made. Well.

  24. God, we thank you for your word. It's powerful, it's living, and

  25. it's active. And your, your power accompanies

  26. it this morning, and faith accompanies it this morning.

  27. Already even the the reading of that passage is building faith

  28. in your Saints and your people, that they would have the

  29. expectation that they would remember what's true about their

  30. King, about their Christ, about their Lord, that he is the one

  31. who changes not. He is the.

  32. Same yesterday and today and forever.

  33. Well, we know exactly what you would have done for us if we

  34. were there that day. In Casinorat and even more so on

  35. this side of the cross, we have great confidence and

  36. expectation. Even so, because of the stripes

  37. of Jesus, the full weight was. Put upon him, the full weight of

  38. the curse was carried away by him, and because of that we can

  39. receive everything. That he intended for us to have.

  40. But we honor you. We thank you for all that you

  41. have provided for US. Open the eyes of our hearts now

  42. in Jesus name, Amen. You know it's one of the values.

  43. Of our church that we. Emphasize and we say God is good

  44. and we go farther than that because everybody everywhere

  45. agrees that God is good. There's I've never met a

  46. Christian who won't say that God is good and yet I go farther to

  47. say and good can be defined by a six year old good is not some

  48. What do you mean by that pastor? What I mean by that is we don't

  49. have a twisted definition that says I go out and get T boned by

  50. a car in the street and we say that was a good thing.

  51. No, that was an objectively bad thing.

  52. Everyone knows that a six year old knows that that's an

  53. objectively bad thing. It's not complicated.

  54. We don't have any fancy footwork.

  55. We just say good things are good things and bad things are bad

  56. things. God is good and but also the

  57. world is broken. The curse is real and there is

  58. still Satan still has limited lives, limited jurisdiction in

  59. the earth. So bad things still happen,

  60. failures, catastrophes, and tragedies.

  61. We mourn those things appropriately, but we are bold

  62. enough and honest enough to keep coming back and saying, but but

  63. what would happen if Jesus was still alive?

  64. And then we come farther through to the place of conviction where

  65. we say Jesus is still alive. And then we put our faith in our

  66. expectation on God's Word and on God's promises, not on our

  67. circumstances, not on the many things that have broken our

  68. hearts, not on the many things that we still struggle with and

  69. the pains that we still walk through.

  70. We don't deny any of them. And still we come back to the

  71. Word of God and say, look at Jesus.

  72. Jesus is perfect theology. So when we see Jesus, we see the

  73. will of God perfectly made manifest.

  74. We see the fullness of the Godhead in bodily form.

  75. What does God really like? What does God want?

  76. When a person is sick? We don't have to pretend that

  77. that's a complicated question. We shouldn't pretend that that's

  78. a complicated question. What would God, what would God

  79. want, you know, for the, for the Children's Hospital?

  80. What would the, what would the will of the Lord really be for

  81. all these difficult circumstances?

  82. Well, thankfully we have a Bible.

  83. Thankfully we have God's word and we approach it with

  84. humility. We approach it with faith and we

  85. say, look what Jesus does. Look with the one who carried

  86. away our sin, our sickness, our disease, our pain, our torments.

  87. Look what he does. So this builds.

  88. Confidence in this builds faith. So we start there pointing out

  89. the obvious, but we are going to see what else the Lord has for

  90. us in this passage. There's actually more to it than

  91. you might think at a quick surface level reading.

  92. First of all, in verse 34, we're just recapping.

  93. Jesus commanded that they should cross over to the other side.

  94. He said, guys, go to the other side.

  95. I'll meet you over there. Maybe he didn't tell them he

  96. would come walking on the water, but they were obedient to Him

  97. and Jesus got them to the other side.

  98. Mark actually tells us that they were struggling all night.

  99. He tells it he has a different account, but it's the same

  100. story. And he says they were struggling

  101. and when Jesus got in the boat, immediately the boat reached

  102. shore. So many interpret that to mean

  103. that they were translated. They were transported in the

  104. moment that Jesus got in. So we struggle, we struggle, we

  105. struggle, we struggle in obedience.

  106. But when Jesus shows up the the fulfillment is completed.

  107. Jesus is the greater Moses. He did not split the water to

  108. deliver his people. Jesus walks on top of it to show

  109. that he has authority and dominion over all things.

  110. This is comfort to you and I Jesus has dominion over all

  111. things in your life. He walks on top of the things

  112. that you and I struggle with. You and I are rowing against the

  113. wind, fighting against the waves.

  114. Jesus comes walking on top of it.

  115. And when Jesus gets into the boat, everything is solved.

  116. He has dominion over everything. So what's that mean for you?

  117. And I? Obey His word.

  118. Walk by faith, and He will get you to the other side.

  119. Keep going to verse 35. And when the men of that place

  120. recognized him, they sent around to all that region and brought

  121. to him all who were sick. So the men of this region

  122. recognized him. Jesus hasn't travelled here yet,

  123. so there's speculation as to how they recognized him.

  124. But it's the, the language that's used here reveals that

  125. it's more than just a I've heard rumors.

  126. The language reveals that they had a clarity, they had a deep.

  127. Recognition. Not just AI recognize you from

  128. somewhere, but I'm not sure. Who you are, what you're about,

  129. They have a clear understanding so they recognized and then they

  130. sent around. That's the calling that's on

  131. your life. That's the calling that's on my

  132. life as a disciple maker, as a Christian who is called to

  133. spread the gospel of the Kingdom.

  134. You witness you saw the thing happen and then you testify to

  135. it. I was once subpoenaed subpoenaed

  136. to court for something that I had witnessed a crime took

  137. place. This was years ago.

  138. Natalie and I are first place that we lived in an apartment

  139. complex and some couple was in the backyard screaming at each

  140. other and I opened my blinds. And so now I'm a witness to to

  141. this chaos And I was I was called into the courtroom.

  142. It's a simple, simple thing, right?

  143. You saw the thing and now your testimony has wait, because you

  144. have something that you can testify.

  145. You can say, hey, here's what happened.

  146. He said this, she said that there wasn't much to it.

  147. By the way, in case you're looking for a juicy story.

  148. There wasn't much. It was late.

  149. I was woken up. I was not pleased about it and I

  150. was just eager to go back to bed and I was not thankful that I

  151. got subpoenaed for this nonsense, but I did that

  152. reluctantly. The believer, of course, doesn't

  153. do this. Reluctant, reluctantly.

  154. Someone here was a witness to something.

  155. They saw something. And then they went and spread

  156. the word. We don't know what they saw.

  157. Maybe they saw the woman with the.

  158. Issue of blood. Maybe that's what they

  159. recognized had happened. Maybe they had heard her story.

  160. Maybe her testimony had spread. Remember, Jesus has healed

  161. thousands and thousands and thousands of people to this

  162. point. This is not a small movement.

  163. This is not a tiny thing. The whole region has been shaken

  164. up. By this rabbi.

  165. Who's healing everybody? Who's doing miracles?

  166. Who's feeding many thousands of people?

  167. That story is spreading. The story is building, so maybe

  168. they saw her, maybe they saw any of the thousands of healings

  169. that have happened by this point, but they witnessed

  170. something and now they go out of their way to tell others about

  171. Jesus. So this recognized, this is not

  172. a shallow recognition. It's having understanding.

  173. When someone is fully known and fully come to understand Jesus,

  174. they go out of their way to tell others about him.

  175. This is a natural byproduct of walking with Jesus.

  176. It is the automatic response when somebody meets Jesus.

  177. You can't shut up about him. You won't shut up about him.

  178. Why would you? How much would you have to hate

  179. the world around you to not tell them about what Jesus has done

  180. for your life? How much, how much would you

  181. have to hate somebody? How much would these men have

  182. had to have hated someone to not go around and say, hey, the

  183. healer has come? So Mark tells us they are

  184. actually running out throughout the community when they realize

  185. it's Jesus, when they realize he gets off the boat, they're

  186. running throughout the community to spread the word.

  187. Imagine they know where the sick people are.

  188. They know what's going on. But there's a lot, there's a lot

  189. riding on them because now they are witnesses who are testifying

  190. him. Scripture also says that the men

  191. carried the message all around. It actually doesn't mean a lot

  192. of times when scripture says men or or man.

  193. It's actually most of the time. Many times I should say

  194. referencing mankind, it's just saying the people did all of

  195. these things as were named after Adam and mankind and humankind.

  196. But in this particular case, it means the males.

  197. They actually carry the message all around.

  198. What do we do with that? We see that men should lead

  199. their families and their communities to Jesus.

  200. Let's state the obvious and the plain thing.

  201. Spreading the gospel and being excited about the Kingdom is not

  202. only an assignment. For your wife, often times in

  203. America it has become a thing. It has become the the Church has

  204. more and more and more. Had more women in attendance

  205. than it has had men. And it's been a chronic thing

  206. that church leaders have talked about for a while.

  207. Why? Why is Christianity losing men?

  208. And there's a lot of theories, and I'm not going to get into

  209. why they are. I have some strong beliefs

  210. around that as well. But the point is, thank God for

  211. the women who are following Christ.

  212. But to the men, what are we supposed to do?

  213. Well, you're supposed to lead. That is a part of your masculine

  214. design, protector and provider and leader.

  215. Those are the essence of who you're, who you are.

  216. There's lots of freedom and lots of expression within that, but

  217. you cannot be boiled down and reduced to any less than that.

  218. So these men, thankfully, carry out the good news of the

  219. message, spreading the message all over the place.

  220. Their joy is overflowing and the love of God compels them.

  221. That's what you and I experience.

  222. Does the love of God really live in you?

  223. Then the love of God is going to come out of you.

  224. It's going to look like something.

  225. It can't look like nothing. If your love for Jesus looks

  226. like nothing, then I would say I'm not sure that that's love

  227. for Jesus because I don't know that it's possible to encounter

  228. Jesus and not be changed by Jesus.

  229. Let me let me not say it in a mealy mouthed way.

  230. It is impossible to encounter Jesus and not be changed by

  231. Jesus. What are you saying?

  232. I'm saying what I'm saying. It is impossible to encounter

  233. Jesus and not be changed by Jesus.

  234. We continue to see that through the Scriptures.

  235. If Jesus always forces a fork in the road, If you encounter the

  236. living Jesus, something has to happen in that moment you have

  237. you have two paths to pick. You reject him or you worship

  238. him. There's nothing else left.

  239. So it should look like something.

  240. It can't look like nothing to the believer.

  241. This is a comforting message to say I do love the Lord and that

  242. is why his love flows out of me and that's why I do the things

  243. that I do. Or maybe to the lukewarm, it's a

  244. concerning message and you would say?

  245. Whoo. Maybe my love has grown cold.

  246. Maybe things have cooled off. That's a challenge and a

  247. conviction from the Lord to bless you and to cause you to

  248. draw near to Him again and to press in in prayer for the lost.

  249. And then there are others who would say, I really don't

  250. experience that at all. I've been around church world

  251. and church life and Bible world and Bible life and all the

  252. things for a long time. But maybe I don't have any of

  253. that fruit. 2nd Corinthians 13, Five and six tells us.

  254. Examine yourselves. What should we examine ourselves

  255. for? Examine yourselves to see.

  256. Whether you are in the faith. Wow.

  257. Paul writing to the church in Corinth and he's closing out his

  258. his last letter to the Corinthians and the last chapter

  259. of the last letter. And he ends it with, hey, all

  260. the all these things. I've been talking to you as

  261. though you're Christians. I've been talking to you as

  262. though you are believers. Let me put this, let me put this

  263. Pebble in your shoe or this thorn maybe in your shoe.

  264. Examine yourselves. OK, We can do that, Paul, to see

  265. whether you are in the faith. That's an alarming thought.

  266. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about

  267. yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?

  268. And then so he brings them that comfort and then he says, unless

  269. indeed you fail to meet the test, which is it, Paul, where

  270. am I? That's not my decision.

  271. That's for you to determine. That's for you to judge.

  272. That's for you to assess, test yourself.

  273. But how would you test? Jesus has already taught us how

  274. do I test the tree. What kind of tree is that?

  275. How could I ever figure it out? The fruit will talk.

  276. The fruit is always reporting something.

  277. The fruit is always communicating something.

  278. Whoo, there's a piece of bad fruit that's an alarm.

  279. What's it mean? But look at the whole rest of

  280. the tree. Oh, that's good fruit.

  281. OK, let's prune that thing off. Let's repent and let's pursue

  282. healing again. But we got a tree full of bad

  283. fruit. Oh, there's one piece of good

  284. fruit. Can we be honest?

  285. Can we be honest? I will never preach somebody

  286. into heaven. I will never preach somebody

  287. into hell. It's not my jurisdiction.

  288. I will preach the Word and I will tell people what Jesus

  289. tells people. Examine yourselves to see

  290. whether you were in the faith. Test yourselves.

  291. Testing is assessing. Testing is measuring.

  292. Testing is judging. Or do you not realize this about

  293. yourselves? That Jesus Christ is in you

  294. unless. Indeed, you fail to meet the

  295. test. Paul's gone.

  296. You're a believer. Test yourself to make sure you

  297. really are a believer. Remember, Christ is in you if

  298. you actually have Christ in you. And I thought, I thought I just

  299. repeated the prayer when I was seven years old.

  300. I thought like that locked me in forever.

  301. I'm sorry you were told that. No.

  302. We can teach. Birds to repeat words that

  303. doesn't. That doesn't save a person's

  304. soul now. Yes, confession is made unto

  305. salvation, but with the heart belief happens and when that

  306. happens, the transformation is profound and it's real and all

  307. the fruit follows. If you truly are a witness to

  308. Jesus, then you have a testimony.

  309. You have one. I've talked about this often and

  310. I wish my testimony was, you know, we thought that I wish I

  311. had the tragic thing. I wish I had the terrible thing.

  312. I thank God I don't have the tragic and terrible one.

  313. I thank God I was raised in the presence of God by parents who

  314. love the Lord. I was born with four aces in my

  315. hand because of it, and I thank the Lord for it.

  316. And I still have a testimony because Jesus still saved me

  317. from sin, from my sin, from my filth, from my unrighteousness,

  318. from my disease that I got from my father Adam, and that you got

  319. from your father Adam. You have a testimony if you have

  320. come in contact with Jesus. Everybody who's come in contact

  321. with Jesus has been changed. So think about this context.

  322. It's estimated that 50%, roughly 50% of a population at any given

  323. moment would be experiencing some sort of problem in their

  324. body, whether it's sickness or whether injury.

  325. If you take out any, any medicinal advantages, if you

  326. take out the healing power of God at any given point, the

  327. estimates say from like 40 to 70, but we'll just say 5050% of

  328. the population has something wrong.

  329. If there's been no intervention and no possible way to help him.

  330. There's, it's a sprained ankle, it's a dislocated finger, it's

  331. a, it's a concussion. It's, you know, it's cancer, you

  332. name it. There's a big spectrum of all

  333. the possibilities of issues and ailments.

  334. So how many people, how many sick people are coming?

  335. A lot, a lot of people are are coming.

  336. So think about these guys who who are carrying the message.

  337. They're running around the community.

  338. They're going throughout the center it which is a region, not

  339. just A1 little village. Christ, the healers come to the

  340. center it you've got their answer.

  341. You know that in that house right there, a sick person is,

  342. would you, would you run past their house and go to somebody

  343. else's house because you don't like that guy or because you're

  344. not sure how he's going to receive it?

  345. He might not believe. He might not believe, like he's

  346. not a really a faithful follower.

  347. And he might, it might be kind of an awkward conversation.

  348. You know, he's sick, you know the healer's here, but do you

  349. really want to bother him? Is it he?

  350. He sleeps this time of day. Maybe they're not home.

  351. Thankfully, these men were aggressively telling everyone.

  352. You ask, you seek, and you knock.

  353. Imagine how many people were healed and transformed just

  354. because of the men who spread the word in that place.

  355. This isn't a story that we often emphasize.

  356. It's 3 verses. It's all we got.

  357. But it's another group of people who were very thankful,

  358. everybody whose door was knocked on, everybody who heard the

  359. message that the healer has come.

  360. Christ the healer, it's the Messiah.

  361. None of this. Is lost on the Jewish readers,

  362. of course, the Jewish hearers of Matthew, the target audience,

  363. the original audience of this gospel, they understand the

  364. Messiah is coming with healing in.

  365. His wings. So these men are carrying the

  366. message. When someone hears a witness,

  367. faith is generated in the hearers.

  368. The Lord does that. He used these men and He wants

  369. to use each of you. This is the means that the Lord

  370. chooses to spread the gospel throughout the earth.

  371. I wouldn't have picked it this way.

  372. I wouldn't have done it this way.

  373. I would just have Jesus stay the whole time.

  374. But Jesus said, no, I want to build my church, I want to build

  375. my church, I want to empower and fill my people, and I want them

  376. to carry out the dominion mandate that they were given in

  377. the very beginning. Be mine, act like mine and carry

  378. my message out and I will fill you with power from on high.

  379. Nothing shall by any means harm you.

  380. You will overcome all the power of the enemy.

  381. Go and make disciples. Teach them to obey.

  382. Don't just tell them God loves you and He has a wonderful plan

  383. for your life. Tell them that it's true, but

  384. don't you dare stop with that. Teach them to obey everything I

  385. have commanded and I am with you even under the end of the age.

  386. This is the message of Jesus. This is the method of Jesus.

  387. Jesus started with 12. And look at the world now, you

  388. and I, someday we'll be able to trace our lineage back.

  389. Who led you to Christ? Well, who led them to Christ?

  390. Who led them to Christ? Someday that's going to trace

  391. back to one of the 12. So we have that heritage and of

  392. course we all come from Christ himself.

  393. It all came the message that hit your ears and has changed your

  394. life. It came out of Jesus mouth and

  395. it is traced down. You'll be able to, you'll be

  396. able to build that family tree. The Lord will show us in heaven

  397. and we're going to be able to thank each of those people and

  398. go thank you and thank you and thank you.

  399. Thank you for opening your mouth and testifying.

  400. And they're going to go what? Choice did I have?

  401. How could I not bring the good message?

  402. How could I not? Bring you the good news.

  403. How could I not tell all the sick about the healer?

  404. How could I not tell all the dead about the resurrection?

  405. How could I not tell all the lost about the shepherd Saints,

  406. you should be. You should be motivated.

  407. You should be convicted. You should be stirred to carry

  408. the message of the gospel again and again and again.

  409. Because when someone hears a witness, the Lord has built it

  410. such that faith is built in the heart of the hearer.

  411. What else do we see here? We see that seeing Jesus should

  412. spark faith for healing, for physical healing.

  413. I've spiritualized this passage some, and that is good and right

  414. and appropriate. But that is the secondary

  415. application of what's happening here in the text.

  416. Primarily, the primary application is physical healing

  417. for physical bodies. Seeing Jesus should spark faith

  418. for healing. This is the first thought and

  419. this is the initial reaction of the people.

  420. When Jesus got off the boat, they took off running and said

  421. everybody's got to know, Everybody's got to hear.

  422. This is what's happening. This is the primary application

  423. again, Jesus. Heals people's bodies.

  424. Like I said, I would never if I was just mapping out my own

  425. year. As much as I love the Lord's

  426. truths around healing, and as as much as that is a subject that I

  427. will always # the pulpit on, I wouldn't preach this many

  428. sermons on healing if I was just writing my own schedule.

  429. And yet when we come through the gospel, we go, man, it's almost

  430. like he heals people a lot, man. It's almost like he really likes

  431. to do that, man. It's almost like now in chapter

  432. 15, we're finally going to see it.

  433. We've been counting up all the people he turned away.

  434. Remember, we've been counting them up.

  435. We're still at a total of 0. Chapter. 15 we're going to come

  436. to number one. We're going to walk through it

  437. together. It's funny how people will will

  438. take the exception and want to make it the rule.

  439. Have you noticed that in life? But Matthew 15 is going to bless

  440. you. It's not going to it's not going

  441. to weigh you down. It's not going to rob your

  442. faith. It's only going to build it.

  443. Let's keep going. Verse 36 And they implored him

  444. that they might. Only touched the fringe of his

  445. garment, and as many as touched it were made well.

  446. So again, everybody's healed. Everybody who comes is everybody

  447. who's healed but they. Implored him this word,

  448. implored. They asked, they begged, they

  449. pleaded. Once again we see people set the

  450. terms. The woman with the issue of

  451. blood, she had come to him, but she just said to herself she

  452. didn't even want to communicate with him.

  453. She goes, If I touch the the fringe of his garment, then I'll

  454. be made well. The original language clarifies.

  455. That the sick were the ones who are making this request, by the

  456. way. So you and I might in, in the

  457. English we read over and we say, OK, everybody's imploring him.

  458. Was it, was it the men who brought them and told them about

  459. Jesus who are pleading? No, it's actually the sick who

  460. are who are pleading and saying, Lord, if we could just touch the

  461. fringe of your garment. So faith has been built.

  462. Where does it come from? I suspect it came from the woman

  463. with the issue of blood. I suspect that that testimony

  464. had spread. Because and I laugh at that

  465. story with you and say, this is crazy.

  466. She just wrote her own script. I'll just do it this way.

  467. Says who you got a verse for that sister, Come on, come on,

  468. give me a verse. But she knows the nature and the

  469. character for God. And then he goes and Jesus, it's

  470. even unconscious to him who touched me, who touched me.

  471. Lord, everybody said no, this was different.

  472. Again, that messes with folks theology.

  473. I thought Jesus knew everything all the time, at all times.

  474. Well, he's limited himself for those temporary moments in the

  475. ways that he chose to. Not because he's limited, but

  476. because he did this. There's mystery in it, and yet

  477. it's it's still the reality. The Scripture also tells us

  478. Jesus grew in wisdom in stature. How can the very wisdom of God

  479. grow in wisdom? Well, I don't know, but Jesus

  480. did. But they're pleading, they're

  481. begging, they're asking Jesus, can we just touch the hem of

  482. your garment will be made. Well, I don't know.

  483. We don't know if he's walking through the streets and that

  484. people are just coming up. We don't know if he's just

  485. seated and they form massive lines and people come up.

  486. We don't know exactly how it happened, but we know that they

  487. came up and just touched the hem of his garment.

  488. But how did they do that? Why do they know to do that?

  489. I believe that there was a a witness who then testified and

  490. now faith has come for all these people who go well, if it was

  491. for her, then it'll be for me. If he did it for them, he's he's

  492. no respecter of persons. He won't change it up on me.

  493. I have faith, I have confidence. But the thing I love is that

  494. these people are coming to Jesus directly.

  495. Notice they come, and they beg, and they plead, and they.

  496. Ask there is no go between at this point.

  497. They were brought near by the witnesses, but now.

  498. Nobody grabs Jesus for them. They have to grab Jesus for

  499. themselves. Nobody can grab Jesus for you.

  500. You have to grab Jesus for yourself.

  501. Children, I'm talking to you. Spouses, I'm talking to you.

  502. Friends, family, whoever we may lean on, pastors, other

  503. Christians, they can all be witnesses who testify to you and

  504. bring you near. But if you won't grab Jesus for

  505. yourself. You can't have him.

  506. You don't have a relationship with Jesus through someone else.

  507. Jesus is the high priest. He is the way.

  508. You don't have to go through Pastor Jim.

  509. Michael, can you put a good word in with the Lord?

  510. No, I do pray for you and I will continue to pray for you, but I

  511. can't pray instead of you. So I will pray for you, but I

  512. won't pray for you. I won't pray instead of you, you

  513. walk with the Lord. You know the Lord he is your

  514. high priest. He made the way so the the old

  515. high priest, he was the go between the people of Israel

  516. would say. He will go and represent us.

  517. And now Jesus says you have direct access to me.

  518. I am the high priest. I am your way in.

  519. We have to grab a hold of Jesus for ourselves, our young men,

  520. our young women. You have to grab a hold of Jesus

  521. for yourself. You are blessed that your

  522. parents love and follow King Jesus.

  523. You have every advantage in life because of that alone.

  524. That's plenty, and that's enough.

  525. But you still have to grab a hold of Jesus for yourself.

  526. Jesus is our high priest. We don't have an earthly man who

  527. goes to God on our behalf. God came to us through Jesus,

  528. and now we can go straight to the throne of grace.

  529. You can go straight to the throne of grace with confidence

  530. so that you may receive mercy and that you may find grace to

  531. help you in your time of need. But that looks like something.

  532. It can't look like nothing. You have to grab a hold of

  533. Jesus. What does it look like?

  534. How do I do it? By faith?

  535. And then faith will always find an expression.

  536. Faith might say I'll grab his garment.

  537. Faith might say it'll be like this.

  538. Faith might say it'll be like that.

  539. But faith comes from knowing his nature and character and walking

  540. with Him and grabbing a hold of Jesus for yourself.

  541. Do not be content like the children of Israel were to let

  542. Moses go meet with God without them and they they wanted that

  543. you meet with God lest we die. You go, you be the go between.

  544. We prefer that. This is a different attitude

  545. that says no, I have to get him for myself.

  546. I want you instead. God wants all of us instead to

  547. be like Joshua. Scripture says that Moses would

  548. meet in the tent with God as a friend meets face to face.

  549. And then Moses would retreat and leave the tent and go out into

  550. the camp and go back to be with the Israelites.

  551. But there was a young man, Joshua, who remained in the

  552. tent. I.

  553. Didn't even know he was in there until Scripture says he.

  554. But he wouldn't leave. So he's Moses right hand man.

  555. And Moses says, all right Lord. They finished their conversation

  556. and Moses met with God as a friend and he says and now he

  557. leaves to go be with Israel. But Joshua stays in the tent.

  558. Why? He's not looking for efficiency

  559. here. He's not looking for OK, we'll

  560. receive marching orders, General.

  561. We'll move on to the next thing. He is he's.

  562. Looking to experience the Lord. He's looking to be a friend of

  563. God. He's looking to build fellowship

  564. with the Lord. I want him for myself.

  565. I want him all for myself. And I'm and I'm not.

  566. Content to have somebody else's experience.

  567. I I know Moses is the prophet. I know he's got something unique

  568. going on, but might I linger a bit longer?

  569. That's hunger, that's thirst, that's devotion, and the Lord

  570. honored it. The Lord honors Joshua and the

  571. Lord blesses him. I saw recently Kid Rock was on

  572. the Joe Rogan podcast, and I think the Lord is.

  573. I know the Lord is working on Joe Rogan because he continues

  574. to bring people who speak the name of Jesus with love and

  575. adoration. And that man's podcast.

  576. So this is a podcaster is the most famous podcast in the

  577. world, But he's asking Kid Rock. He's like, if you could go back

  578. to any time in history, where would you go?

  579. And Kid Roger says Jesus. And Joe Rogan goes, OK, Joe

  580. Rogan is not a believer. I don't know Kid Rock's whole

  581. story. I just know this clip.

  582. But Joe Rogan goes what if you go and nobody's there?

  583. And Kid Rock goes even better. I get him all to myself.

  584. So he totally misunderstands what Joe Rogan was implying,

  585. which was like the most innocent and, as the young folks say, the

  586. most base possible response because he's like, yeah, but

  587. what if you go, nobody's there? He's like, that's awesome.

  588. I have Jesus all to myself. Which is like the absolute best

  589. response for a sheep of the shepherd.

  590. And Joe Rogan's like, no, no, no, I meant like, I meant like,

  591. what if you go and Jesus isn't there and he's like, oh, he'll

  592. be there. Oh, of course, of course he'll

  593. be there. But what was your point there?

  594. Well, I want the Lord for myself.

  595. That was my thought, kid. Ron was like, I get him all to

  596. myself. Like, I like this.

  597. I like this game even more than before.

  598. He is there, but thankfully, more importantly, He's here.

  599. He is in you. He is with you by the Holy

  600. Spirit. And we are not content to let

  601. somebody else grab a hold of Jesus for us.

  602. We grab a hold of Jesus for ourselves.

  603. So what is this, the fringe of his garment?

  604. We've seen it before. We're going to see it again.

  605. We're going to see Jesus rebuke the Pharisees later.

  606. So there were there were commands given in Deuteronomy

  607. for how Jewish men were supposed to dress.

  608. And there were certain emblems and there were certain things to

  609. represent. The Lord is big on symbolism.

  610. He wants things to represent to. Be a moral reminder and an

  611. encouragement for you. The problem is, the Pharisees

  612. took what was supposed to be a moral reminder, and they made

  613. the thing that was supposed to be the moral reminder.

  614. This the signifier of of holiness.

  615. So if you're supposed to have a few tassels on you, then they

  616. said, well, the longer the tassel, the holier you are.

  617. No, no, no bro, that wasn't the point.

  618. The point was just like the tassels are enough like.

  619. I'm going to have bigger tassels than you like.

  620. OK, guys, I think you're missing the whole thing now.

  621. And that's what the Pharisees did.

  622. Oh, we're supposed to have the scripture on our forehead.

  623. Well, then I'm going to have the bigger scripture box on the top

  624. of my hat. So then, you know, so then

  625. people walk through the streets and go look how holy he is.

  626. Look how much. Bible he's got hanging off the

  627. front of his head. And so that's what they wanted.

  628. They wanted you to admire them. They wanted you to go.

  629. That's a holy man. That's what they wanted.

  630. It was pride. They wanted to inflate

  631. themselves in front of you. They wanted to be big and puffed

  632. up and go, wow, that's a holy man.

  633. Not because of his good fruit, but because of his outward show.

  634. And that's the problem. Anyone can make an outward show.

  635. You got to know somebody and walk with somebody.

  636. Fruit talks over time. It's easy to walk through the

  637. crowd and go, wow, he looks the part man, Look how?

  638. Look how big his scripture boxes on his head.

  639. Look how long his tassels are. But these tassels weren't

  640. nothing. Still a.

  641. Humble. A humble holy man like Jesus

  642. very likely still would have had these.

  643. So it's very likely that this is what these Jewish people are

  644. grabbing a hold of these tassels on this, on this prayer shawl.

  645. I know Gordon and Linda know what I'm talking about.

  646. So this, this garment and there was there was blue stripe on it.

  647. There was white stripe on all these things were were

  648. signifying heaven and earth and purity and prayer and holiness.

  649. This is the fringe of his garment.

  650. Again, the Jewish listeners to this gospel, they understand

  651. what these people are grabbing a hold of.

  652. If I could just grab a hold of the tassel, these tassels

  653. signified holiness and they could be worn in the appropriate

  654. way, which of course would have been the way that Jesus did it.

  655. Not with pride, not with pomp, not with circumstance.

  656. But the Jewish. Hearers again.

  657. They knew what this was about. The one with healing in his

  658. wings, the one with the healing in his tassels was walking among

  659. the people. They named the terms and say

  660. we're if we just touch, if we could just touch your tassel,

  661. then we'll be healed. And Jesus says, let's do it,

  662. let's do it. I'll bless you that way.

  663. I love you that way. As many as touched it were made

  664. well, made well. To spare, to save, to bring

  665. safely through. What a relief.

  666. The doctors might not have loved it, but the whole community is

  667. transformed again by Jesus and his kindness and his generosity

  668. and the will of God being revealed.

  669. What does God want for people? Let's look at Jesus and we'll

  670. always have our answers. Coming into contact with God.

  671. Changes you and we're closing and we're going to prepare to

  672. receive communion. Coming into contact with God

  673. changes you where? Where do we see that?

  674. Look at the leper, remember? Jesus touches the leper.

  675. Does Jesus then get leprosy? No.

  676. The leper gets purified, he gets made whole.

  677. Isaiah comes before the Lord, and he says, oh, I'm a man of

  678. unclean lips. And the Angel flies.

  679. He grabs one of the burning coals from the altar and he

  680. flies, and then he touches it to Isaiah's lips.

  681. Is the coal now tainted with impurities?

  682. No, Isaiah is made pure and made clean.

  683. You and I, we reach out and touch Jesus.

  684. Does he become sinful? Well, the Scripture says he

  685. became sin, but Jesus did not sin.

  686. He was never impure. And still we become now the

  687. righteousness of God in Christ. We have a genetic disease.

  688. From our Father Adam and we need healing.

  689. It's sin. We have other diseases, we have

  690. other ailments, we have other malfunctions, we have other

  691. injuries, and we need healing from all of it.

  692. Jesus is the one that we grab a hold of, and we're going to do

  693. that now in just a moment, Chris and Kayla, if you would serve us

  694. the elements, we're going to grab hold of Jesus again,

  695. through his body and through his blood for the forgiveness of

  696. sins, the most important. Miracle.

  697. And also for the healing of our bodies.

  698. Last week I laid hands on you in obedience to the Word of God.

  699. That with the anointing of oil. But it's not a script, it's

  700. faith. God didn't intend to give

  701. formulas. He intended to give faith.

  702. So even as you receive communion, as you drink the

  703. blood and eat the body this morning, you can receive all

  704. that the Lord has, all that you need, all that He has intended

  705. for you. So we're going to pray.

  706. Elijah Fayne, if you would bring up the music again, Saints, just

  707. meditate. Just pray.

  708. The encouragement I'll give you and the instruction that I'll

  709. give you is to inspect your own heart, to test yourself, to see

  710. that you be in the faith. And the warning I'll give is

  711. only the warning that Scripture gives.

  712. Do not partake of the Lord's body.

  713. Do not partake of the Lord's blood in an unworthy manner.

  714. Don't come to it as a small thing.

  715. Don't come to it as a light thing.

  716. If you would do something like that, you would be eating and

  717. drinking condemnation unto yourself.

  718. There's this thing in the body of Christ.

  719. There's these theological terms and ways that people go about

  720. it. And some pastors say, well, do

  721. you prevent people from receiving communion?

  722. Do you let everybody receive communion?

  723. The way I know to do it is to present the Lord's body in the

  724. Lord's blood, and then to also present the warning out of love

  725. for every partaker to say, do not eat and drink condemnation

  726. unto yourself. It would be better to not

  727. partake than to partake in an unworthy.

  728. Manner. How can I do it in a worthy

  729. manner? Is there sin in your life that

  730. you're not repenting of and you know you're not going to repent

  731. of? Do not take the body and the

  732. blood of the Lord. Have you determined in your

  733. heart this morning that this is who I am?

  734. This is as Christian. As I'm ever going to get, and I

  735. have no intention of going any farther.

  736. I would if I were you. I would not.

  737. I wouldn't trample the blood and the body of Christ.

  738. If we trample the body and the blood of Christ, what lies next

  739. for us? What safety is there?

  740. What protection is there? On the Interstate, flying off

  741. the Cliff, Jesus is the only thing standing between me and

  742. that edge. If you trample him, there will

  743. be nothing else after him. Pastor, you trying to scare us?

  744. I want you to have the fear of the Lord, of course, and the

  745. whole truth. But remember the body and the

  746. blood. What it represents, it

  747. represents His mercy for all of our sin.

  748. But it will require, like our sister prophesied, it will

  749. require our obedience. God keep me close is a good

  750. prayer, but it will ultimately require me making choices.

  751. So I want you to partake. I want you to drink deeply of

  752. the cup. I want you to feast on the body

  753. of the Lord because it is your salvation, because your it is

  754. your purity, because it is your holiness, because it is your

  755. redemption, because it is your healing.

  756. So we move forward prayerfully, we move forward humbly, we move

  757. forward gratefully, coming to the throne of.

  758. What? Grace the throne of.

  759. Grace, Chris and Kayla, would you serve us?

  760. You can boost it a little bit, Thank you.

  761. You can just hold them to the elements as as you pray and then

  762. we'll take together in a moment. Thank you, brother.

  763. Thank you, my sister. There is anything in

  764. pure mega free me, deliver me from people, deliver me from

  765. flesh, deliver me from people. Lord, we've confessed our sin,

  766. we've prayed, we have asked forgiveness, and we come again

  767. to the cross. The cross.

  768. It's foolishness to the world, but it's a treasure to us.

  769. The Lamb of God was slain before the.

  770. Foundation of the. World in the heart of God.

  771. And now, 2000 years later, we still look back to that moment.

  772. Your passion, your sacrifice, you did it all for the joy set

  773. before you, the joy of a restored people, the joy of your

  774. name glorified, the joy of pleasing your Father.

  775. So we come to the cup and to the bread with gratitude and with

  776. joy, knowing that we have much more than the people of Israel

  777. had, even as they were delivered from Egypt that night, as that

  778. first Passover meal was taken. They were delivered from

  779. oppression, yes, but God, we've been delivered from so much

  780. more. Jesus, you changed that

  781. Passover. You said this is the new

  782. covenant in your blood. No longer would it point only to

  783. Israel, but and to Egypt. But more importantly, it points

  784. to every person who will call. Upon the name of the Lord to be

  785. saved and the death Angel passes over us.

  786. Because it didn't Passover. Jesus the Father pointed his

  787. wrath at his Son so that all of his enemies could become his

  788. sons. And now that is exactly what we

  789. are with full inheritance as joint heirs with Christ seated

  790. with you in heavenly places at that throne of grace that we

  791. approach with confidence as thankful children, as forgiven

  792. children, as redeemed children, and now righteous children.

  793. God carry us forward not with a consciousness of sin, but with a

  794. consciousness of righteousness, aware of the high calling on our

  795. lives as ministers, as ambassadors for the King and his

  796. Kingdom, as witnesses who've seen something.

  797. And now? Not only are we required to

  798. testify, we joyfully testify. I was reluctant to testify in

  799. court years ago, but as believers, God, we are joyfully

  800. thrilled. To carry the message of the

  801. Kingdom Lord, even before we partake, we pray for all those

  802. who don't know you and Saints, I want you to just hold someone in

  803. your heart, a particular person. Not the whole wide.

  804. World but a particular person right now God bring them into

  805. the Kingdom and save them. Save them and use me, use me God

  806. to bring them near that they would be LED close, but then

  807. that that they would grab a hold for themselves.

  808. The King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the one with healing in

  809. his wings and for the physical needs we have in our bodies.

  810. Whether great or small, they're all small.

  811. For the one who walks on top of all things, with all authority

  812. for the body and the blood accomplish everything that was

  813. needed. We receive healing by faith,

  814. right? Now for the cough that won't go

  815. away, for the vision that hasn't yet been perfected, for the

  816. issues, for the ailments, for the wound that hasn't been
