  1. Good morning everyone.

  2. [Applause]

  3. My name is Matis and I'm the teaching

  4. pastor here at Boon Ferry. If you're

  5. new, you're very welcome. We're excited

  6. to have you. And I get to wait all year

  7. to say this, so I don't want to wait any

  8. longer. He is risen.

  9. He is. Let's say it one more time. He is

  10. risen. He is.

  11. I don't think there's any better Sunday

  12. than Easter. It's just absolutely

  13. wonderful. I'm going to give you just a

  14. couple really short announcements as

  15. always, especially on a Sunday like

  16. this. If you're new, if you'd like a

  17. little bit more information about Boon

  18. Fairy, feel God drawing you to become

  19. part of Boon Fairy, those welcome cards

  20. are for you. you can go um fill those

  21. out, give us whatever information you're

  22. comfortable with and especially if it's

  23. for your first time, you can hand them

  24. to the connection table after the

  25. service and we'll give you um a little

  26. gift that's worth having. Um we also use

  27. them for our prayer ministry and that's

  28. the second thing that I want to mention.

  29. If you have a prayer request, you could

  30. write them down on that. Um we have uh

  31. 24-hour prayer time coming up on May 2nd

  32. and 3rd. I think there may have been a

  33. typo in the past saying March 2nd. So,

  34. if you show up on March 2nd or 3rd of

  35. 2026, God's not going to be mad about

  36. that. And if you are, you can take that

  37. into prayer, but we won't be there. So,

  38. um this is May 2nd starting at 5:00 p.m.

  39. and we will end on the next day at 5:00

  40. p.m. And the way that works, um you can

  41. actually even use your phones right now,

  42. scan that QR code, which will take you

  43. to where you can sign up. You can also

  44. go on our website and sign up. And if

  45. you get our e- bulletins that you can

  46. also sign up through that in the welcome

  47. card then you'll get a click uh for the

  48. sign up as well. We um we meet both in

  49. person in right here in the um in the

  50. prayer room but you can also join on

  51. zoom. Um so uh it's it's a wonderful

  52. thing that we can worship in spirit and

  53. truth anywhere now. It doesn't have to

  54. be in Jerusalem. It can be anywhere. And

  55. so I don't really believe that in terms

  56. of God hearing you or you praying to God

  57. that there's any difference being on

  58. Zoom or in person. It is encouraging

  59. when you come in person and the

  60. fellowship that we have together face to

  61. face is important. But um what I'm

  62. saying is you could sign up for 1 hour

  63. or you could sign up for an hour and

  64. then zoom. Some of you may not um sleep

  65. well and maybe you wake up

  66. intermittently anyway. Maybe that

  67. night's a night where you just jump in

  68. on Zoom and pray with us for a time. So

  69. really looking for that 24 hours of of

  70. prayer. And actually that is my last

  71. announcement. So I'm going to pray and

  72. I'm going to then get right into the

  73. first chapter of John. We're going to

  74. John 1 and John 3 and some other

  75. scriptures today if you wanted to turn

  76. there. Let me pray. Lord, I have a very

  77. simple and singular prayer today. I pray

  78. that you would save uh those who need to

  79. be saved that are here. Um that you

  80. would help those who need to recommmit

  81. in their faith and let go of some things

  82. that are stopping them from really

  83. following you in a way that bears fruit.

  84. That you would help them to recommmit.

  85. Uh Lord, the reason we pray is we don't

  86. have any control over salvation. Your

  87. son says it's like the wind and we don't

  88. know where it comes from or where it

  89. goes. And that's the way your spirit is

  90. too. And so when we pray, we're

  91. recognizing that we don't have control,

  92. but we're asking you for that salvation

  93. all the same. I pray these things in

  94. Jesus name. Amen.

  95. Let's start by just

  96. reading the very beginning of the Gospel

  97. of John because it says a couple things

  98. that are everything it says is really

  99. important, profound, but there's

  100. something in there that connects

  101. directly to the main message of the

  102. sermon today. And this is John 1:1. In

    John 1:1

  103. the beginning was the word and the word

  104. was with God and the word was God. He

  105. was in the beginning with God. All

  106. things were made through him and without

  107. him was not anything made that was made.

  108. In him was life and the life was the

  109. light of men. The light shines in the

  110. darkness and the darkness has not

  111. overcome it. There was a man sent from

  112. God whose name was John. He came as a

  113. witness to bear witness about the light

  114. that all might believe through him. He

  115. was not the light but came to bear

  116. witness about the light. The true light

  117. which gives light to everyone was coming

  118. into the world. He was in the world and

  119. the world was made through him. Yet the

  120. world did not know him. He came to his

  121. own and his own people did not receive

  122. him. But to all who did receive him, who

  123. believed in his name, he gave the right

  124. to become children of God, who were born

  125. not of blood, nor the will of the flesh,

  126. nor of the will of man, but of God. And

  127. the word became flesh and dwelt among

  128. us. And we have seen his glory, the

  129. glory as of the Son from the Father,

  130. full of grace and truth.

  131. I want to stop there and I want to pick

  132. up just a couple things that are

  133. necessary to believe about Jesus. What

  134. we're going to be talking about today is

  135. what has to happen for you to gain

  136. eternal life. Um, it's good to hear and

  137. be reminded of if you already believe.

  138. Uh, we're going to be talking about the

  139. concept of being born again. You've

  140. probably heard that before. People call

  141. themselves born again Christians, but

  142. what does that mean? And if you were

  143. wanting to become born again, what would

  144. that mean? And we'll go to that passage

  145. in a moment. But the first thing that I

  146. want to be pointing out here is that it

  147. said of this son of God whom we know in

  148. the Gospel of John to be Jesus Christ.

  149. That he was in the beginning. He's given

  150. the title the name word there. He is the

  151. word of God. But he was with God, but he

  152. also was God. And he hasn't stopped

  153. being God. And all things were made

  154. through for and by him. And in him is

  155. both life and light. And that light,

  156. even though there's so much darkness in

  157. the world, it cannot be overcome. But

  158. coming down all the way to verse 12, I

  159. want to point out something that it says

  160. that I don't believe gets talked about

  161. enough. It says, "But to all who did

  162. receive him, who believed in his name,

  163. he gave the right to become children of

  164. God." Did you know that you had to you

  165. have to be given the right to become a

  166. child of God? That God gives people that

  167. right. And it also says who were born

  168. not of blood. So it's not uh a normal

  169. natural birth that happens that causes

  170. you to have that right to become a child

  171. of God. Also it's not the will of the

  172. flesh. So it's it's not wi human beings

  173. have a sinful nature. And scripture

  174. talks about how whether you believe or

  175. not you already know that because you'll

  176. do things that you're convicted of as

  177. wrong. And you can't just get rid of the

  178. guilt. No matter how much you suppress

  179. it, repress it or try to explain it

  180. away. It's there. And so that will is

  181. not capable of giving itself the right

  182. to become a child of God or believing

  183. and says even nor of the will of man but

  184. of God. And so it's it's God's choice.

  185. It's God's will. And that's a really

  186. important thing to understand about

  187. being born again, which is according to

  188. Jesus necessary for you to either even

  189. enter the kingdom of heaven and the

  190. kingdom of God. And when when Jesus says

  191. that, that means gaining salvation,

  192. gaining eternal life. So, let's go to

  193. John chapter 3. Uh because at this

    John 3 chapter mention

  194. point, there's a Pharisee. And if you if

  195. you've heard about Pharisees, you know

  196. they're legalistic. They're hypocrites,

  197. we'll use it as a term to put somebody

  198. down or when someone is being too

  199. rule-based, we'll say, "Oh, that's kind

  200. of Phariseaic." Or when just someone's

  201. just being a hypocrite. Um why were they

  202. hypocrites? Well, they had all these

  203. rules, but they didn't even follow those

  204. rules themselves. Besides, they were

  205. saying that all these rules would be the

  206. kind of things that you could follow and

  207. then they would make you right with God.

  208. But according to the writers of

  209. scripture, in particular Jesus and Paul,

  210. but all of the writers of scripture,

  211. even from the Old Testament, you're not

  212. made right with God by following the

  213. rules. In fact, those rules are there to

  214. point out just how sinful we are and how

  215. we can't follow them. how although we

  216. see that those rules are good like you

  217. shouldn't lie, you shouldn't steal, you

  218. shouldn't cheat, you shouldn't murder

  219. and yet we still have those kinds of

  220. inclinations and sometimes even those

  221. actions occur. But there's one Pharisee,

  222. his name is Nicodemus and he sees

  223. something about Jesus and he wants to

  224. come to him and I'm going to read verse

  225. one here. Now this is chapter 3 of John.

    Isaiah 3 chapter mention

  226. Now there was a man of the Pharisees

  227. named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

  228. The Jews had this Sanhedrin uh which you

  229. might think of it similar to our Supreme

  230. Court but there were 70 of them and

  231. there were no checks and balances on

  232. them. They're the elders, they're the

  233. priests and there was primarily

  234. controlled by the Pharisees, although

  235. there were also another group of

  236. religious leaders called the Sadducees

  237. that were part of that. And it wasn't

  238. just a religious leadership, but it was

  239. to some degree a political leadership

  240. that Rome had given some authority. And

  241. so there's both political sway,

  242. religious sway, societal sway, social

  243. sway, very high position. All right? And

  244. he risks something terrible by even

  245. speaking to Jesus. Let's see what he

  246. says here. This man, verse two, came to

  247. Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi,

  248. we know that you are a teacher from God.

  249. No one can do these signs that you do

  250. unless God is with him." How do we know

  251. he was risking a lot? Well, he came by

  252. night. Came by night. He did not want to

  253. be known for having gone to Jesus. The

  254. Pharisees were murderously opposed to

  255. Jesus as we know and he could have lost

  256. not just his standing but his position

  257. almost certainly would have been ousted

  258. from the Sanhedrin would have been

  259. mocked uh would have lost all social

  260. favor with people because this

  261. leadership group has a lot I don't know

  262. if you've noticed how in America too

  263. it's kind of like the majority rules if

  264. enough people believe something then

  265. something else even if it's true goes

  266. out of fashion and then you become

  267. society pressured to believe that and if

  268. you don't you get marginalized to sort

  269. of a radical fringe crazy kind of

  270. person. And you see it swinging back the

  271. other way too. So like all of a sudden

  272. rad what sounded like radical cringe

  273. crazy ideas then come be more centered

  274. because all of a sudden everyone's

  275. starting to believe them. Uh we saw this

  276. happen recently in our nation. And so

  277. it's it's no different back then. He has

  278. takes a huge risk in trying to find out

  279. more from Jesus. And it is a risk for

  280. you as well. It is a risk for you as

  281. well to try to find out more about

  282. Jesus. And you know that risk for some

  283. of you it feels like a risk risk just to

  284. come to church. Although I assure you

  285. that the risk in watching the show Care

  286. Bears and coming to Boon's Fairy is

  287. almost exactly the same. There's no real

  288. risk. It's a bunch of softies here that

  289. love you. Um and and no real danger. But

  290. there's a spiritual thing I'm talking

  291. about where what are they going to say

  292. or are they going to call me a sinner or

  293. if I go to church? or my friends going

  294. to think I'm one of those Bible

  295. believing crazies. There is a risk to

  296. your reputation. There could even be a

  297. risk to your job. There's a risk

  298. socially, a risk reputationally and for

  299. you even a risk emotionally because if

  300. you've been experiencing guilt in your

  301. life over something that you've done um

  302. and you've been pushing that down,

  303. coming to church tends to bring that to

  304. the surface and maybe don't want it to

  305. bring to bring be brought to the surface

  306. and maybe it's painful. So there is a

  307. certain amount of fear there. And a

  308. question I'd like to be asking you is

  309. here. Do you still have a desire to risk

  310. something to know Jesus? Have you risked

  311. something by even coming? Nicodemus was

  312. risking a lot. Okay. So let's let's

  313. continue to see what he asks here. Jesus

  314. answered him, "Truly I say to you,

  315. unless one is born again, he cannot see

  316. the kingdom of God." So Nicodemus had

  317. recognized something about Jesus. I know

  318. that God has to be with you because you

  319. couldn't possibly be doing these signs.

  320. Couldn't be doing these signs if he

  321. wasn't with you. Maybe you've seen some

  322. signs. Maybe you have never actually

  323. believed. You've always kind of thought,

  324. well, religion is the opiate of the

  325. masses. Well, if you haven't ever heard

  326. that phrase, uh it's it's from Karl

  327. Marx. And surprise, he was not born

  328. again. And he believed that if you were

  329. to the people that believe the gospel or

  330. the people that believe religious

  331. things, it's like a drug for them that

  332. helps them escape from all the pain and

  333. sorrow and difficulty. And we don't need

  334. it. We just need to do something. And

  335. that's really where the idea of

  336. socialism came from. What we should do

  337. about it. Um but you have to ask

  338. yourself a question. And do you like

  339. Nicodemus wants to listen want to listen

  340. to Jesus and what he has to say or some

  341. elite philosopher? You know, Nicodemus

  342. had elite philosoph philosophers of his

  343. time as well. And as one of the ruling

  344. class, he would have had access to all

  345. of the most brilliant minds. No one's

  346. saying that Karl Marx is not brilliant.

  347. The question is when it comes to

  348. spiritual things, should you listen to

  349. him or should you listen to Jesus

  350. Christ? And if like Nicodemus, you're

  351. finding yourself drawn to listen to

  352. Jesus Christ, he has something to say.

  353. And the very first thing he says to

  354. Nicodemus is, "Truly I say to you,

  355. unless one is born again, he cannot see

  356. the kingdom of God. You're blind to it.

  357. It's not available for you to be seen."

  358. And how would you become born again? We

  359. already talked about it's not born of

  360. blood like just being born of a woman,

  361. you know? Um, everyone is, but that's

  362. not what it's about. And it's not about

  363. the will of the flesh. There's nothing

  364. in you that has this power to will

  365. yourself to become born again. And it's

  366. it's also not the will of man. So, no

  367. one can will it for you, but it comes

  368. from God. And he gives you the right.

  369. And Nicodemus is bewildered. Culturally,

  370. you've heard, even if you haven't been

  371. around church circles, you've heard the

  372. idea that like, I'm a born again

  373. Christian. People will say it today.

  374. It's even a modern term. I'm born again.

  375. But you might have no idea what it

  376. means. Nicodemus had never heard this.

  377. It wasn't like a cultural saying. It

  378. wasn't like something well go this is uh

  379. I know what that means, you know, and I

  380. have all these ideas associated with it.

  381. It's the first time he's hearing it. And

  382. Nicodemus said verse four, how can a man

  383. be born when he is old? Can he enter a

  384. second time into his mother's womb and

  385. be born? And he's not being sarcastic.

  386. He's bewildered. He's kind of

  387. dumbfounded like how he's taking Jesus

  388. seriously. So seriously like I mean I

  389. don't how there's no category of it for

  390. him. And Jesus answered truly I say to

  391. you unless one is born of water and the

  392. spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of

  393. God. That which is born of the flesh is

  394. flesh and that which is born of the

  395. spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I

  396. said to you must be born again. The wind

  397. blows where it wishes and you hear it

  398. sound, but you do not where it go where

  399. it comes from or where it goes. So it is

  400. with everyone who is born of the

  401. spirit. So it's you might be thinking,

  402. well, we know more about the wind than

  403. they did back then. And that is to some

  404. degree true. Um, for example, we

  405. actually know where the strongest wind

  406. gusts happen on a most regular basis.

  407. And that's uh uh George V. Coast in

  408. Antarctica. Do you know that? You guys

  409. want to hear one more uh interesting

  410. fact about wind? No.

  411. That is my kind of humor by the way. And

  412. one one way you can know is I asked him

  413. to say

  414. that. Um yeah, actually I have an image

  415. for you of how powerful wind is. I'm

  416. assuming this is a hurricane even though

  417. uh the internet said it was a tornado, I

  418. think. But if we've got that image, uh

  419. we can put that image up. This is what

  420. wind can do.

  421. You just look up hurricane wind damage

  422. or you know straw through trees, forks

  423. through trees. There are so many images

  424. of how powerful wind is and you can't

  425. even see it, you know. And honestly, I'm

  426. not sure how much more we know about

  427. wind these days. I will see a weather

  428. event happening and go to my weather app

  429. and the weather on the weather app is

  430. different in real time. Not even

  431. predictively wrong. But it's not even

  432. raining even though it's raining

  433. outside. So, uh I wonder sometimes if

  434. we're only 50/50 predicting the wind,

  435. why would we even do it? But what Jesus

  436. is really talking about here is he's

  437. comparing the Holy Spirit to the wind.

  438. You can't see the Holy Spirit either.

  439. You can't control the Holy Spirit. And

  440. you don't know when he's going to cause

  441. somebody to be born again. You don't

  442. know when that's going to happen. And

  443. you know, you don't know that because

  444. the people that you want to be saved

  445. most as Christians, you pray for. You

  446. pray for them to be saved. And what are

  447. you praying? You're praying that God

  448. would intervene in their life. You've

  449. probably talked to them about the gospel

  450. and maybe they've rejected it. No, I'm

  451. not a sinner. No, I don't need

  452. forgiveness. So maybe you haven't been

  453. harping on that because it just kind of

  454. blows up and yet you come to pray for

  455. them because you know God is in control

  456. of that. That's what we do when we pray.

  457. It's it's like the the human mind and

  458. heart and soul just knowing I can't

  459. control this, but I want that to happen.

  460. And so, you pray for it. You pray for

  461. that person. But it is not the opiate of

  462. the masses. God's already told you it's

  463. not something that you can just like

  464. cause yourself to

  465. see. He does say that being saved is a

  466. function of hearing God's word preached.

  467. So you hear this, but you know how many

  468. people hear God's word preached and

  469. don't come to be saved, who don't become

  470. tr who reject it. So what's really the

  471. difference between that those who then

  472. reject it and those not are the ones who

  473. accepted it? Are they weak because they

  474. needed something? That's not what

  475. scripture is

  476. saying. Scripture is saying and Jesus is

  477. saying is that yeah, you don't know

  478. where it comes from, where it goes. You

  479. don't know when the Holy Spirit's going

  480. to act in that way, but it's a function

  481. of the Holy Spirit to be born again. And

  482. notice Nicodemus doesn't say can these

  483. things be. He says in verse n, Nicodemus

  484. said to him, how can these things be? He

  485. wants he's still wanting to understand

  486. how what does this mean? How can you be

  487. born again? And Jesus answer uh seems at

  488. first flesh kind of strange. Uh you

  489. would think that if somebody's asking

  490. then then you would you would

  491. immediately tell them because they're

  492. ready for it. But here's what he says.

  493. Verse 10. And Jesus answered him, "Are

  494. you the teacher of Israel and yet you do

  495. not understand these

  496. things?" Right? So at that time they

  497. didn't have the Bible we have today.

  498. They had the Old Testament and they

  499. didn't call it the Old Testament. They

  500. just called it scripture, Torah. So if

  501. Jesus is saying that as a teacher in

  502. Israel, as a ruler, you ought to know

  503. what I'm actually talking about about

  504. being born again, then it must be able

  505. to be found in scripture. And at least

  506. by now, it's found in probably one of

  507. the most or the most famous Old

  508. Testament scriptures you can find. So

  509. let's go there. This is Ezekiel

  510. 36 26. Let's actually start in verse 25.

  511. Ezekiel

    Ezekiel 36:25

  512. 36:25. I will sprinkle clean water on

  513. you and you shall be clean from all your

  514. uncleanness and from all your idols I

  515. will cleanse you and I will give you a

  516. new heart and a new spirit I will put

  517. within you. and I will remove the heart

  518. of stone from your flesh and give you a

  519. heart uh from your flesh and give you a

  520. heart of

  521. flesh. So the concept of becoming new,

  522. becoming a new creation in a sense,

  523. being born again, it's already

  524. there. He should have already understood

  525. this metaphor that Jesus is using for

  526. something truly transforming, changing,

  527. remarkable that has to happen if you're

  528. even going to become a child of God in

  529. the first place.

  530. And it's a significant thing that

  531. someone who considers themselves a

  532. teacher of the law didn't really have

  533. any clue what Jesus was was talking to

  534. about. And he could have I think most

  535. Pharisees would have been pretty

  536. offended by having been called out like

  537. that. Um but Nicodemus is still

  538. listening. And I'll I'll if I remember

  539. to give you evidence of whether

  540. Nicodemus actually took this to heart.

  541. Um if I don't it's in chapter 19 of John

  542. so you can look at it for yourself. But

  543. here's what Jesus says. Truly, truly, I

  544. say to you, we speak of what we know and

  545. bear witness to what we have seen, but

  546. you do not receive our testimony. If you

  547. have told, if I've told you of earthly

  548. things and you do not believe, how can

  549. you believe if I tell you of heavenly

  550. things, you might think, well, being

  551. told about this, being born again from

  552. the spirit, that's a heavenly thing. And

  553. in a way, it is. But Jesus is calling

  554. that an earthly thing. How much greater

  555. are the things of heaven going to be if

  556. the things that are earthly are by Jesus

  557. defined as being born again by the

  558. spirit? No one has ascended. Verse 13,

  559. no one has ascended into heaven except

  560. he who descended from heaven, the son of

  561. man. I don't know if you've ever thought

  562. about this, but anybody who's ever

  563. preached the gospel, including

  564. me, is not someone who can say, "We came

  565. from heaven. We have a heavenly purpose.

  566. We have a heavenly commission. We're

  567. preaching things of both earth and

  568. heaven. But I didn't come from heaven.

  569. I've never seen heaven. I don't know

  570. what it looks like other than by faith

  571. in what Christians uh teaching says, the

  572. Bible says about it ultimately. But

  573. Jesus has actually been there. That's

  574. where he was from the beginning. That's

  575. where he descended from. He is the man

  576. from heaven. And so he doesn't teach

  577. these things by faith like I do.

  578. I I don't even know what Jesus looks

  579. like. I know what his character is like.

  580. I don't even tend to imagine what he

  581. looked like because I know someday I'll

  582. see

  583. him. But Jesus knows exactly what God

  584. the Father looks like. And he knows what

  585. the Holy Spirit looks like. I'm not

  586. saying imagine what the Holy Spirit

  587. looks like, but it is unimaginable.

  588. Shows up as a dove at Jesus' own

  589. baptism, but I'm not sure that he always

  590. looks like a dove. We don't know. What

  591. do you imagine? Even these things are

  592. beyond our imagination. And Jesus has

  593. seen them by sight. And so he preaches

  594. heaven by

  595. sight. That's a who should you believe?

  596. There is no other witness who has seen

  597. heaven with his own eyes who can be

  598. totally trusted. There's no other man

  599. from

  600. heaven who came from heaven and will

  601. eventually go back, you know, in his

  602. ascension after resurrection. So again,

  603. I I want to ask you, is that wind

  604. blowing for you today? Are you maybe not

  605. suddenly maybe you've been slowly drawn

  606. seemingly like Nicodemus and you just

  607. want to know more, but maybe things are

  608. just suddenly making sense. Like you

  609. know they're true and you can't unknow

  610. it. That's happened to me before where I

  611. just, well, I know that's true now. I

  612. can't unknow it. It becomes, this sounds

  613. like nonsense, but it becomes truer than

  614. gravity. And I'm not jumping off

  615. buildings anytime soon, but I believe it

  616. like as a founding reality and it's been

  617. revealed to me. I didn't understand it

  618. at first and then all of a sudden I

  619. understand it. If that's happening to

  620. you, you can be certain that the Holy

  621. Spirit is drawing

  622. you that God wants to give you the right

  623. to become a child of God. So listen in

  624. and ask your questions. How can this how

  625. can these things

  626. be? And Jesus actually gives the answer

  627. in verse 14 and 15, but it's it's going

  628. to take more investigation of scripture.

  629. You think he just make it so easy, but

  630. what he points out, if you want to know

  631. about spiritual things, even earthly

  632. spiritual things, you need to look to

  633. the word of God. And as Moses lifted up

  634. the servant serpent in the wilderness,

  635. so must the son of man be lifted up that

  636. whoever believes in him may have eternal

  637. life. Have you have I I know many of you

  638. have, but some of you may have never

  639. even heard of the passage that Jesus is

  640. referencing. This is in Numbers, and

  641. I've got it up on the screen, too, but

  642. if you want to turn there, this is

  643. Numbers chapter 21. In my Bible, it's

    Numbers 21 chapter mention

  644. titled the bronze serpent. This is

  645. certainly what Jesus was referring to.

  646. I'll start in verse

  647. four. Do we have it up already? Yeah.

  648. From Mount Hor, they set out by the way

  649. of the Red Sea to go around the land of

  650. Eden. And the people became impatient on

  651. the way. And the people spoke against

  652. God and against Moses, "Why have you

  653. brought us out of Egypt to die in the

  654. wilderness, for there is no food and no

  655. water, and we loathe this worthless

  656. food." And then the Lord said, "Fiery

  657. serpents among the people, and they bit

  658. the people, so that many people of

  659. Israel died." And the people came to

  660. Moses and said, "We have sinned, for we

  661. have spoken against the Lord and against

  662. you. Pray to the Lord that he may take

  663. away these serpents from us." So Moses

  664. prayed for the people, and the Lord said

  665. to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent and set

  666. it on a pole. And whoever is bitten when

  667. he sees it shall live." So Moses made a

  668. bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And

  669. if a serpent bit anyone, he would look

  670. at the bronze serpent and live. That's

  671. what that's

  672. about. Again, like comparing the spirit

  673. to the wind, he is comparing himself to

  674. what?

  675. the serpent on a

  676. stick. It seems very strange really. I

  677. thought we were supposed to think of

  678. Satan as the serpent. Well, I want to

  679. show you and let's just go to uh 2

    2 Corinthians 5:21

  680. Corinthians 5:21. If you want to turn

  681. there, you can. I have it up as

  682. usual. Here's what Paul

  683. says. And the hymn in this case is

  684. Jesus. For our sake he made him to be

  685. sin who knew no sin so that in him we

  686. might become the righteousness of

  687. God. God made him the snake. So what

  688. that story is about is that our sin has

  689. lethal poisonous

  690. consequences. And again it's not

  691. something you have the control to get

  692. yourself out of because it comes from

  693. your very fleshly nature.

  694. and it will just populate more sin. Even

  695. if you feel like in your own power

  696. you've conquered a sin. And besides,

  697. even if, and by the way, you can only

  698. hear what I'm about to say and believe

  699. it if God is drawing you. Even

  700. if you did everything really well,

  701. there's something wrong in you that

  702. would want to then point back to your

  703. own glory rather than to God's glory.

  704. And so even good acts done with that

  705. kind of self- glorifying content, even

  706. the best things you've ever done, God

  707. will call filthy

  708. rags because it's only him that's to be

  709. glorified. And none of us could even

  710. ever be close to leaving leading a sin

  711. sinless life. And yet it said of Jesus,

  712. he knew no sin and yet he would made him

  713. to be sin. So now when you look at Jesus

  714. Christ and you know you're experiencing

  715. the poisonous effects of

  716. sin, if you have that guilt and you know

  717. that like the consequence of that is

  718. condemnation, death forever, not eternal

  719. life, if you know that, if you're

  720. experiencing that, then then all you

  721. have to do according to Jesus, is to

  722. believe on this man that came from

  723. heaven, who's dying for your sin, who's

  724. even been made to be sin, who knew knew

  725. no sin and God had to crush him for it.

  726. He had to make him suffer. He had to

  727. have Jesus be punished in yourstead. If

  728. you if you believe that, you are

  729. saved. You might think, well, some just

  730. choose to believe that. But you've seen

  731. what the word says. It's God who gives

  732. the right. It's the spirit. You don't

  733. even know when he's going to act. I have

  734. prayed and the elders have prayed and

  735. the prayer team has prayed and I know

  736. there are many in our Bible studies that

  737. have been praying for if you're hearing

  738. this and are not yet saved that you

  739. would hear it and believe and have

  740. eternal life. Let's go back to John

    John 3 chapter mention

  741. chapter 3 and finish

  742. out. Did you know we're in the chapter

  743. of John that has most certainly the most

  744. famous verse in it? And we're getting

  745. there. It's a big claim to say it's the

  746. most famous verse, but you're all going

  747. to agree when you hear it. Let's

  748. continue. Let's start over in verse 14.

  749. Though, and Moses lifted up the serpent

  750. in the wilderness, so m as Moses lifted

  751. that serpent up, so must the son of man

  752. be lifted up that whoever believes in

  753. him may have eternal life. There's no

  754. life apart from the cross. But this this

  755. double meaning, John does it multiple

  756. times where being lifted up means both

  757. being lifted up in the cross, but also

  758. ascending into heaven. So, you never

  759. separate the crucifixion from the

  760. resurrection. There would be no hope if

  761. Jesus wasn't resurrected. And that's why

  762. we have such joy when we're saying he is

  763. risen. But verse 16 says this, "For God

  764. so loved the world that he gave his only

  765. son that whoever believes in him should

  766. not perish but have eternal life. For

  767. God did not send the son into the world

  768. to condemn the world but in order that

  769. the world might be saved through him.

  770. Whoever believes in him is not

  771. condemned, but whoever does not believe

  772. is condemned already because he has not

  773. believed in the name of the only son of

  774. God. If there's something moving in you

  775. to believe that, if you find yourself

  776. wanting to believe that, if you if the

  777. greatest thing that in your mind could

  778. be is just getting a brand new fresh

  779. start, you're born again. Do you know

  780. what 2 Corinthians 5:17 says? You can

    2 Corinthians 5:17

  781. probably get there faster than I can s

  782. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is

  783. a new creation. The old has passed away.

  784. Behold, this new has come. I see

  785. neighbors in my neighborhood and all

  786. over to Alton who have more than 99% of

  787. the world, boats, cars, nice houses, and

  788. there's this forloren and lost and

  789. sometimes a bitter look in their eyes.

  790. When enough sin piles up in your life,

  791. and when enough sin of others against

  792. you piles up in your life, bitterness,

  793. it just it it like little black

  794. tentacles just start to destroy

  795. everything. You're no longer thankful.

  796. You don't feel grateful. You're just

  797. angry and bitter. And and maybe you

  798. don't want to be bitter anymore. And

  799. maybe you just don't want to feel that

  800. guilt anymore. And maybe you're hearing

  801. this for the first time with ears that

  802. believe. And to that, I want to show you

  803. from Romans 10 that being saved is not

  804. complicated. It's not about the rules.

  805. It's not about, well, I don't even know

  806. the Bible. I got to know the whole

  807. Bible. It's like a couple sentences

  808. worth of content. You want to hear it?

  809. Verse eight. But what does it say? The

  810. word is near you. It's definitely near

  811. you right now. I see some of you holding

  812. the Bible, but he's talking about the

  813. spiritual word in your mouth and in your

  814. heart. That is the word of faith that we

  815. proclaim. Because if you confess with

  816. your mouth that Jesus is Lord and

  817. believe in your heart that God raised

  818. him from the dead, you will be

  819. saved. That's all it

  820. takes. All those years of trying to do

  821. better and then failing again. And maybe

  822. you failed in a way that you've lost

  823. some relationships. Maybe you failed in

  824. a way that relationships are really

  825. broken. It happens in marriage. I I see

  826. the faces of some married couples

  827. driving and they both just look like

  828. they're walking dead. So un no joy, no

  829. smile. The eyes are just downcast. So

  830. even when you stay married together,

  831. things can be so broken that you're not

  832. experiencing any joy. And did you know

  833. you could just be made brand new, born

  834. again, being given the right to become a

  835. child of God, and there's nothing you

  836. can do to earn it. And there is just one

  837. thing you have to

  838. believe. I want to read it

  839. again. Because if you confess with your

  840. mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in

  841. your heart that God raised him from the

  842. dead, you will be saved.

  843. It's April 20th or 20th, 2025. Remember

  844. the day if today was the day that you've

  845. believed because it's the day of your

  846. salvation. And I'm going to pray a

  847. prayer that everyone in the room,

  848. whether you already believe, whether you

  849. need to recommmit in your faith, or

  850. whether this is the day of your

  851. salvation, can pray again. It's not

  852. unfaithful to pray it. God knows what

  853. you're doing. And it will be a very

  854. simple prayer, and you'll know exactly

  855. where I got it from. Just read the

  856. verse. And it's not a magical prayer.

  857. It's it's God knows if you actually

  858. believe. Can't say the words not believe

  859. and have it happen. But if you actually

  860. believe, and by the way, do you want to

  861. know how? If you desire to believe, he's

  862. moving in your heart. You can be sure. I

  863. can't cause it. I don't even know when

  864. it's going to happen, when not. I ask

  865. God. I give him the

  866. control. And I hope the Holy Spirit is

  867. moving in you. So, I'm going to ask you

  868. to close your eyes and just repeat after

  869. me. And I'll try to keep them in short

  870. sentences, but if you say this with

  871. sincerity and honesty before God, you

  872. are saved and you've become been given

  873. the right to be a child of God and you

  874. have eternal life. Let's

  875. pray. Lord

  876. God, I admit that I've sinned.

  877. I repent

  878. and I ask for your forgiveness.

  879. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is

  880. Lord Jesus.

  881. And I believe in my heart

  882. that God raised him from the dead. God

  883. raised him from the dead.

  884. I'm not going to ask for a show of

  885. hands. You can open your eyes. But if

  886. you prayed that prayer for the first

  887. time or if you prayed that prayer and

  888. have not yet been baptized, the very

  889. next step is that you'd be baptized. And

  890. it does not have to be at Boon's Fairy.

  891. But we do our baptisms and it it won't

  892. seem like it's going to be very long. We

  893. do them in August, the second week of

  894. August in this case, at our pig roast.

  895. When you walk out the door today, you'll

  896. see the baptismal. doesn't matter what

  897. kind of weather it is because that's a

  898. hot tub. So, we we warm it up and we get

  899. in there and and you be baptized and you

  900. don't it's not baptism that saves. In

  901. fact, why would you baptis baptize

  902. someone who's not yet a child of God?

  903. So, we baptize simply as a profession of

  904. an inward reality that's now being

  905. professed outwardly and it's a matter of

  906. obedience and blessing to do so. And so

  907. I would love to know, the elders would

  908. love to know and we feel a sense of

  909. responsibility to know if this day is

  910. the day of your salvation. What a

  911. glorious thing that would be. Let me

  912. pray. Father, I'm so thankful that you

  913. gave me the right to become one of your

  914. children. I don't know why except I know

  915. it's for your glory. And I believe and I

  916. know it's true. I pray it'd be the very

  917. same for the people in this room that

  918. they would receive

  919. you and that even if today was not the

  920. day of commitment that a seed will be

  921. planted that the enemy cannot take away

  922. and that doesn't get scorched by the

  923. cares of this

  924. world. Thank

  925. you for resurrecting your son and Jesus.

  926. Thank you for the agony you endured for

  927. our sin.

  928. We want to worship now as new creations

  929. filled with your spirit offering you

  930. praise that delights you, glorifies you,

  931. and witnesses to you. And we cannot wait

  932. to do it in Jesus name. Amen.
