glad you're here today if you're not in

the sanctuary yet would you make your

way in here we're going to start this

morning off with some praise just giving

the Lord glory and confessing who he is

and what he's done don't you know the

Lord has done some wonderful things for

you and in you and today is a day where

he is working let's just all praise him

together would you stand up with us and

of people in my life that I can trust

but there's some things in my life that

I mean God's

it it's just like He's it

him or with him on some things in my

life he's just

it and it's okay because he is enough

enough god is enough i just want to

share that God's enough amen he is

enough isn't he just turn and tell

somebody this morning I trust God

completely he's never let me down if

he's with me if he's for me no one can

stand against and just invite you to

take your seats this morning church as

we celebrate that

he's able don't you know God's able to

do exceedingly abundantly above more

than you could ever ask think or imagine

that means you can trust him everybody

if he's able to do it and he's willing

to do it then he will do it can you say

amen to that and so uh we look to God we

trust in God we put our faith holy in

him because he is the one who is

faithful and we're we're grateful for

that we celebrate that um church this

morning I' I'd like to just speak a

moment to his faithfulness as we prepare

to give today I'm going to go to Matthew

Matthew 6 · chapter mention

chapter 6 if you'd like to join me there

as we prepare to give and worship in

this way through offering God of you

know the substance that he's provided

for our life I'd like to encourage your

hearts out of the word and we're going

to look at Matthew 6 starting in verse

26 to do that uh while you're turning

there if anybody needs an envelope just

put your hand up and an usher will come

find you with one of our envelopes

otherwise uh we'll have some online

giving options on our screen here in a

minute you can find that on our app or

website or uh wherever you connect with

us digitally matthew chapter 6 um if you

would pull that up with me I just want

to encourage your heart as we get ready

to worship God in our giving this

morning and and really to what we were

just singing about a moment ago the fact

that we put our trust in him you know we

do trust in God for everything that we

need and you know physical things

substantial things material things are

just another area of life another arena

where God is victorious where God

supplies for our every need where if

he's for us nothing can stand against us

and so just like we may believe that

about spiritual things about you know

spiritual victory um maybe about

physical victory in our body with

healing and things of that nature uh we

can trust God in this area too because

just like we trust him all other places

we can trust him in this area of

material things as well let's look at

Matthew 6 26 jesus is speaking this and

he says "Look at the birds they don't

plant or harvest or store food in barns

for your heavenly father feeds them and

aren't you more valuable to him than

they are?" Can all your worries add a

single moment to your life and why worry

about your clothing look at the liies of

the field and how they grow they don't

work or make their clothing yet Solomon

in all his glory was not dressed as

beautifully as they are yet Solomon in

all his glory not dressed as beautiful

as they are if God cares so wonderfully

for wild flowers that are here today and

thrown into the fire tomorrow he will

certainly care for you he says why do

you have so little faith and he speaks

this to people who were worried about

these material things you know he's

addressing the issue of hey I I need

something for myself i need to store

something for myself so that I have food

so that I have clothes so that my

physical needs are met and Jesus knows

that the people have this concern in

their heart as they're being asked to

give things as they're being asked to

you know give to the poor and fund uh

ministry so that he can go and preach

the gospel in these areas he's saying

you know you're worried you're worried

about this call to offer something to

God but why why are you worried he goes

on and says in verse 31 don't worry

about these things saying what will we

eat what will we drink what will we wear

these things dominate the thoughts of

unbelievers but your heavenly father

already knows all of your needs seek the

kingdom of God above all else and live

righteously and he will give you

everything that you need see Jesus is

presenting to his disciples a totally

different way of life compared to what

they know and what they're familiar with

in the world in the world the

unbelieving way the way that's not of

faith but is of natural senses is I I

need to I need to retain possessions i

need to store up enough for myself i

need to work until I'm at a point where

I'm comfortable and I'm secure and then

when I'm there you know then I can trust

in what I've earned trust in what I've

accumulate trust in what I've done to

feed me clothe me house me provide for

me and what Jesus is saying here is that

in the kingdom there is a totally

different paradigm we should be living

with a totally different perspective we

should be looking with and he's saying

it's that we look to the father first to

the supplier of our needs and he makes

this comparison he says you know God has

been so caring and so loving for his

creation that he has not failed to

provide food for the birds i don't even

like birds that much and yet here God is

caring for them loving them providing

for them i stepped out of my house the

other day and this is one of the way you

know spring is here i saw a flock of it

must have been close to like a million

of these little blackbirds just in every

tree every branch i mean our whole

skyline at our place just looked like

blackbirds and they swarm up and it was

like a cloud in the sky and you know as

I read this verse I think about them and

I think man God has provided food so

that each and every one of those little

stinkers can stay alive this spring and

make it where they need to go i don't

even like birds but you know what god

loves them and God created them and he

cares for them he goes on and he talks

about the flowers of the field i'm not a

big flower person i think they look nice

sometimes they smell nice but I I don't

give a lot of thought to flowers and yet

God in his his love his care his perfect

fatherliness out of his nature not only

does he you know put them on earth so

they have life it says God raised them

in beauty even such that Solomon like

the most you know ornate king to have

ever lived even as beautifully and

ornately as Solomon was clothed the Lord

says never once was he as dressed as

well as all of these flowers God

providing for them too and it just makes

me think this if God cares so much about

these flowers that most of us don't

think that much about and he cares so

much about these little black birds that

fly in the sky and he meets their every

need he provides each and everything

that they need how much more would God

care for us who were created in his

image the the final piece of the week of

creation the final work which he did and

then he stopped and he said "This is

very good." If God cares so much for the

rest of creation that he upholds it by

his word and his power and his provision

how much more does God want to meet your

every need provide for every concern

every satisfaction that you may have god

loves and so he gives it's out of his

love and out of his care that he

provides each and everything and the

Lord Jesus teaches us this it's in verse

33 he says "Seek the kingdom of God

above all else and live righteously and

he will give you everything you need."

What I see is this when it comes to

having our needs met the answer is not

to work harder oursel not to try harder

oursel but to come to the Lord to seek

his way to seek who he is to seek his

instruction and to follow after him when

we seek first the kingdom when we seek

first the counsel and the love and the

care and the provision and the glory of

our king what's going to happen is he

will pour out a blessing in our life

like it says in Malachi 3 so that

there's not room enough to receive it he

will absolutely fill your life over and

beyond with the things you need if you

just come and seek him first the answer

to having our needs met is is not doing

enough it's coming to the provider who

is enough can you say amen to that

church and so this morning I just want

to encourage you come with your

possessions seeking the kingdom of God

if you're going to give this morning I

hope you do because I know this is an

action of worship that pleases and

honors him and it's something that he

uses to do great things for his kingdom

in the world as we come and we seek him

and we seek his way and we seek to obey

him and please him first what's going to

happen as a result is he's going to meet

your every need he will take care of

every kind of thing you could ever think

about needing he will satisfy it he will

provide it because that is who he is a

loving and caring generous father so

when it comes to giving I just want to

say seek what God says first seek his

way first seek the way of God first and

you will never be disappointed he will

take care of every other need that you

have when you seek first his leading and

so can we all be led this morning as we

give will you just take a moment as the

ushers come forward and I prepare to

pray just seek the Lord in your heart

right now if you're planning to give

today and and you're seeking the Lord

and and he has given you a witness of

peace to that then hey follow along with

it if I'm sharing right now about God's

ability to provide and you feel him

stirring you in the heart to do

something if he's leading you speaking

to you about something right now I don't

know what that might be I just tell you

do it do it because seeking first the

kingdom seeking the Lord's way first is

the best way to live can you all say

amen to that let's pray over this

offering and call it blessed in the name

of Jesus father I do thank you for your

care for your provision over all

creation what a miracle it is that life

is so well sustained as you've created

it and you uphold it and you provide all

things for it lord I'm constantly amazed

at how each and every little intricacy

of this created world works because you

make it work by your power lord we seek

you we seek your glory we seek your way

your wisdom we seek to please you we

seek that blessing that comes with life

dwelling in and with and among you and

so Lord I just pray that as we seek you

this morning as we respond to your voice

this morning as we do what you've put on

our heart to do I pray that just like

your word says Lord you'd you'd be

faithful once again you always are but I

look to you with expectation today Lord

because of your word and your

faithfulness that just like you said

seek you first the kingdom and all these

things will be added lord I expect all

these things to be added every need to

be met all provision to be made for each

person in this room who is seeking first

the kingdom even through this action of

giving this morning lord we call this

offering that is given blessed in Jesus'

name we ask you to use it to multiply it

to increase it and bring yourself glory

glory be to the name of the most high

God through what's given today use it

Lord for the proclamation of the gospel

for the making of disciples and the

expansion of this kingdom of which we're

so grateful to be a part lord we love

you we pray these things to you be all

the praise and glory in Jesus name amen

can you say amen church we believe it's

done we believe it's true so we expect

to see it hey before we let our kids out

for class this morning uh just a couple

of announcements and then we're going to

have them go if anybody here has

magazines all right this is an abnormal

announcement but if you have magazines

maybe you've got like a drawer full of

them or you've got a pile or something

or maybe you get magazines and then they

end up in the trash um Midwest Wellness

and Recovery has asked if anybody in the

church has magazines they'd be willing

to donate they want to use those for

some projects uh in their programming

and so if you have extra magazines

laying around or you get magazines and

then throw them away start saving those

and you can just bring them to church uh

set them in the south desk uh in our

foyer kind of where we've been

collecting candy or give them to an

usher and and they'll get them where

they need to go but uh if you have

magazines please do bring those those

would be helpful and useful as a

resource to Midwest Wellness and

Recovery so if it's spring cleaning time

and you want to get rid of some

magazines I've got a place for them all

to go so bring them all here over the

next few weeks and uh we'll put those to

good use um speaking of things that

we've been collecting for projects I

just wanted to say thank you to

everybody who has donated Easter candy

um we did kind of rough count last uh

this last week and I think we are at our

goal for candy and so thanks to

everybody who bought some to provide for

that we are really looking forward and

making some great plans for this

community egg hunt i'll be sharing more

about that over the next couple of weeks

um we we have a lot of fun events

planned with it we're going to be

putting it in the paper and online and

all these things and so we're hoping for

a really great turnout um this year we

are going to have food we're going to

have a train running and giving rides

we're going to have a coloring contest

with some prizes and so um the last

couple of years the egg hunt has been

everybody swarms into the church in

about 10 minutes and then we have a

fiveminute egg hunt and then people kind

of trickle out um this year you know

with the new pavilion out by our park

with the new playground equipment that

we have and then some of these other

components we're really hoping that this

will be an effective outreach day and so

um I'll kind of plant this seed now a

few weeks early if you are available to

come on Saturday at 11:00 the Saturday

before Easter I think it's April 19th if

you can come and be here on that

Saturday from 11 to about noon we would

love to have you there um we will have

some teams that we're setting up we need

volunteers to help serve some different

needs uh but more even than that I I

think this is one of the best outreach

opportunities that we get during the

year i mean this is this is the weekend

that Christians should be celebrating

the most amen we have more reason than

anybody in the world to celebrate on

Easter weekend because hey you might

like your bunnies you might like your

eggs but I've got an empty grave to

celebrate on Easter Sunday amen and so

we want to celebrate that well and as

people from the community come out and

you know they come for the chocolate the

candy the fun but there are people who

are dealing with grave situations in

their life people who are dealing with

emptiness and dissatisfaction and

they're looking for answers in other

places let's point them to the answer to

the hope to the life which is Jesus amen

and so if you can come out and join us

that weekend I mean I I won't even ask

you you don't even have to sign up to

wear a vest or do some job just come and

talk to people just come and invite

people to church tell them about why

you're celebrating Easter weekend tell

them about the love you have for Jesus

what he's done in your life and I just

think there's no better opportunity to

reach people that are lost in the world

than to have them show up at the church

campus maybe not even expecting to you

know be ministered to in the way that

they think of at church but then to have

a conversation with somebody that could

totally change the trajectory of their

life and so I want to encourage you if

you have kids uh we're going to be egg

hunting from zero to age 11 so bring

them out for that but if anybody is

available that day we'd love to have you

here at the church so that you can be a

witness so that you can encourage and

show God's light to the people that are

here that day so uh just just consider

that pray about that we'd love to have

just a full I guess a full yard that day

because we're all going to be outside

it's going to be a lot of fun we'd love

to have you be a part of that and the

good things that happen on that day um

couple more announcements before we have

kids go out women of Life is meeting

Tuesday um April 8th so ladies just mark

your calendars for that second Tuesday

in April we'll have a text and some of

that stuff going out next week and then

a final announcement here the Cuba

mission trip that I've been talking

about the last few weeks we are having

um an official meeting about that today

after service and so if you are

interested in Cuba just stick around

after service i'll just hold a short

meeting right up here we're going to go

over pricing and dates and uh the

structure that we have for that trip at

this point and um there there there is

one thing we need anybody interested to

do like by the end of today and so it's

it's not a hard barrier to entry but if

you are interested if you think maybe I

could go to Cuba on this trip this year

then you need to be at this meeting

today um so that I can get you the

information because there are some

things that are going to have to move

pretty quickly to pull this trip off uh

by early July so uh Cuba meeting after

service today stay for that if you're

interested in Cuba um let's dismiss our

kids and our teachers at this time they

can head out to their classes so glad

that they worshiped with us we're here

we love having kids in the church with

us amen everybody else who's staying in

if you want to open your Bibles where

I'm going to begin today I'll be

starting in the book of Romans in the

eth chapter and I'm really really

excited about this sermon uh this is

this is actually I'm going to be talking

about a word this morning that is is

just so personal and one that I love so

much it's on the screen so this morning

we're going to be talking about

quickening and I I'll admit to you this

is actually a message I kind of wanted

to save for Easter Sunday um I just I

love it that much and I think it's just

that good and what it's about is is so

connected to spring and this Easter

season this time of new life but what

I've learned is that you know when the

Lord is speaking something anointing

something leading on something it's best

to just respond in that time i thought

about a couple of verses in Proverbs

they talk about how a fitly spoken word

is like apples of gold set in silver or

a word spoken in due season how good it

is and so I believe it's important to

deliver messages as the Lord leads and

not just according to the schedule that

I would like to set and so I'm I'm still

believing that we're going to have a

good Easter message but I'll tell you

I'm really excited about quickening

today this word quickening is one of my

favorite words that you can find in the

Bible it describes the working of life

and uh one of my favorite Bible verses

is this Romans 8:11 i'll read it first

Romans 8:11

in New Living Translation and then I'm

going to actually look at it in the KJV

so let me read you New Living first and

then I'll I'll read you the KJV the

spirit of God who raises who raised

Jesus from the dead lives in you and

just as God raised Jesus Christ from the

dead he will give life to your mortal

bodies by this same spirit living within

you so let's look at King James here it

says "But if the spirit of him that

raised Jesus up from the dead dwells in

you he that raised up Christ from the

dead shall also quicken your mortal

bodies by his spirit that dwelleth in

you." And this word quicken is one

you're not going to find in every

translation but it's the word I remember

because when I was back in Bible school

I had a teacher that liked King James

version and they would take us to King

James version we would read that and we

came across this word quickening and

I'll I'll I'll be honest with you the

first thing I thought of was like the

financial program quicken that's not

what it is i found out pretty quick that

this word quickening is a pretty awesome

piece of truth about the Christian life

and it is a scripture I have stood on

time and time and time again in my life

and there is a promise contained here in

Romans 8 that is so wonderful for the

life of a New Testament believer i'll

tell you this not a KJV only person but

I am a person that likes to understand

and remember what the Bible says amen

and that's what the word quickening does

for me it would have been easy to title

this message something different it

would have been easy to call it like

give life or raise up or something like

that but quickening kind of sticks in my

mind because that's not a word I hear

anywhere else if I hear quicken the only

thing I think of is Romans 8:1 and so I

Romans 8:1

hope this morning that this message this

word quicken will stick in your heart i

pray that quickening will stick in your

heart and it's something you can go with

and carry with you through life to

strengthen and empower and encourage you

in times where you need some quickening

and so this is a word that in my

vocabulary quickening specifically

speaks to the special work of life that

the Holy Spirit does in us who belong to

Jesus so I've got three points for you

this morning i'm going to start with the

first one it's this number one this

morning quickening is the lifegiving

power of God and so let's just start

there quickening is the

lifegiving power of God and I could

maybe even extend that a little bit

further and say it's the lifegiving

power of God at work in you quickening

is the lifegiving power of God at work

in you and why that's so important is

because I think most people recognize

that God has power god is alive he does

great and miraculous things i mean we

see that all through the word but let's

make it personal here quickening is when

that life begins to work in your life

say "My life." It's when God's power

works in me the Greek word for

quickening let's give it a roll here

zupia zupia is how uh YouTube

pronunciations told me that that's said

and it's spelled like this it's up on

the screens for you zoo P O I E Oo and

it means to give or to make alive to

give life or to make something alive

here are some of the ways it's used

through the word i'll give you a couple

references in 1 Timothy 6:13 Timothy or

1 Timothy 6:13

Paul writes to Timothy and he says "I

charge you before God who gives life to

all and before Jesus Christ who gave a

good testimony before Pontius Pilate."

So here we see quickening is translated

as to give life to put in you the things

of life to put in you the things that

are fruitful that are productive that

are beneficial that are are satisfying

that's life and what we're talking about

here let's look at another way it's used

in 1 Corinthians 15:22 i'm just giving

1 Corinthians 15:22

you some references to see how

quickening this word is translated in

other translations through the Bible 1

1 Corinthians 15:22

Corinthians 15:22 says ' But there is an

order to this resurrection christ was

raised or we could say quickened it's

this zupia word he was raised as the

first of the harvest then all who belong

to Christ will be raised when he comes

back and so we see the giving of life

the bestowing of life the working of

life in someone but we also see it's the

raising up it's the resurrecting it's

the putting life where there was no life

it's the you know reanimation of

something it It is the adding new breath

to something it is the making useful

something that was once unuseful making

fruitful something that was once

unfruitful and so we see these words as

other ways quickening is translated and

so I'm not telling you quickening today

because I think that that's the only way

to reference what this thing is i'm just

telling you quickening is how I remember

that God has sent the Holy Spirit to

work life in my life and so that's what

I want to share with you this morning

this word zoo pow is the compound of two

the first one being zun which is a being

with life and pia which is to make or to

work or to do and so it is the working

of life in someone that's what

quickening really is it is the working

out of life in someone else in something

else and the kind of life that God

always works is called Zoey in the Bible

it's ze is how it's spelled you can look

it up yeah that's where the name Zoey

comes from it's Zoe is the Greek word

life and it's a very specific kind of

life it doesn't just mean something that

like is green like a tree here's a

definition from the Greek of what Zoey

life means a life active and vigorous

devoted to God blessed lasting forever

bringing unending joy and blessing and

as I think about life as it's referenced

through scripture it's always this Zoey

kind of life and it's always this life

that is drawn to God that is infused

with the power of God a a life that is

devoted to God honoring him a life that

is blessed by God a life that is eternal

in nature a a life that brings joy and

blessing you know we'll talk later this

morning about the abundant life in John

John 10:10

10:10 when Jesus says that's his purpose

is to bring this kind of life new Living

says it's a life that is rich and

satisfying and so this is what Jesus

came to bring and in Romans 8:11 we're

Romans 8:11

told this is the work of the Holy Spirit

in you is to bring that kind of life

into your life to bring this vigorous

active devoted to God blessed

foreverlasting unending joy unending

blessing abundant and satisfaction kind

of life that's what the Holy Spirit was

sent to work in you the work of the Holy

Spirit one of his works is to quicken

the believer to make alive the believer

it's this which is only obtained through

connection to Jesus because it's only

through Jesus that the Holy Spirit is

sent into our heart and it's what Jesus

I mentioned this a minute ago it's what

he was talking about in John 10:10 when

John 10:10

he says that my purpose is to give them

a rich and satisfying life jesus is

saying this is the whole reason that

I've came is so that you can receive

this life so before Jesus none of us

could ever receive this kind of life now

people have been living on earth for

thousands of years so there was a type

of life available but it wasn't this God

kind of life that's available and see

here's the thing when when we grow up

and we spend some time learning life

without God we learn to accept a life

that is not God's life right but God

wants you to have his life christ said

his whole purpose was that you would

have this kind of life the Bible tells

us the Holy Spirit one of his works is

that he comes and he works life in those

who believe in Jesus and so all of us

have to change our expectations when we

get saved we have to renew our mind to

not accept the old kind of life but to

expect a new kind of life and I truly

believe one of the reasons that the the

church as a whole across the world at

times does not experience or doesn't

look any different than the world has

all the same problems as the world

struggles with all the same stuff as the

world is because the expectation never

changes that we should be different

we should be made alive we should be

renewed we we should live satisfied i

mean we shouldn't have a bunch of

unsatisfied Christians can you say amen

to that that might be a revolutionary

thought to someone but that's okay you

shouldn't live your whole life on earth

unsatisfied without joy unthankful

bitter offended that's not what we're

supposed to live like because Jesus said

"I came to give you a different kind of

life we're not supposed to be the

devil's punching bag the whole time

we're on earth." Do you know that jesus

in John 10:10 he said "The thief's

John 10:10

purpose is to steal kill and destroy but

I've got a whole different purpose it's

life." And so if the enemy is stealing

from you that's not what Jesus came to

give you if he's destroying things if

he's killing things in your life it's

not because the Holy Spirit's power is

working on that it's because the devil

is attacking and we need to stand firm

on the expectation hold fast to the hope

of our faith in Jesus that he came to

give us this kind of life amen amen you

see it starts with this belief that

there is a better life available in

Christ that I've been given another

option i'm on a roll this morning this

is way more right here than I was going

to do but it's so true we get we get so

complacent to accept things the way that

that they are oh this is just the way

the world is that's just the way my life

works no jesus said "I came to give you

a rich and satisfying life a life full

of joy and unending blessing a life that

that never ends a life that you don't

have to wake up and wonder if it's going

to work today or not." Jesus is sure the

Holy Spirit is sure the Father is sure

and they're all in agreement that life

is what they want for you you know God's

will for you is life god's will for you

is good god's will for you is

satisfaction it is joy it is blessing

don't let any other false teacher false

preacher tell you that God wants you

sick hurt depressed hopeless

he wants life for you amen

and he has done everything that has to

be done for you to receive life that's

what I'm here to tell you that's what

quickening is all about is the working

of life in

you is available because of Christ and

active because of the Holy Spirit

that was better than the response that I

just got this morning church

life is available in Christ and active

in the Holy Spirit available in Christ

active through the Holy

Spirit and I'll say this before I go on

and get into that more this life is not

just limited spiritual things this is an

all-encompassing life for the entirety

of your being in the word we're told

that we are a spirit a soul and a body

that scripture is found in 1

1 Thessalonians 5:23

Thessalonians 5:23 we'll go there a

little bit later this morning but I'll

tell you this life that Jesus makes

available and the Holy Spirit works in

you it's not just a spiritual thing it's

also a physical thing it's a body

raising life in fact Romans 8:11 speaks

Romans 8:11

specifically to that it says the Holy

Spirit the same spirit that raised Jesus

in physical body from the dead he will

quicken or give life to your mortal

physical body that's right so it's the

same spirit the same power the same

intention that raised Jesus to life from

the dead works in your body to make you

well i can't tell you how many times

I've stood on this scripture when I've

felt sick when when I've felt broken

i've shared testimonies with you before

about like my ankles getting jacked up

because I'm wearing bad shoes and doing

things I shouldn't do i I've shared with

you before about times where I've had

like terrible headaches and just weird

stuff going on this is a scripture that

I base my expectations on when I'm

feeling sick I'm feeling broken this is

one of the verses I always go to and I

say "Lord your word says that the same

spirit that brought Jesus back to life

from the grave is at work in my body and

that he makes my body well that he gives

me life." And so I receive it i thank

you for it i believe that that's true

and so whatever's broken the Holy

Spirit's in here fixing it the Holy

Spirit is bringing power to make that

well i believe that's what the Bible

says i believe that's what gives life to

your mortal or physical body means and

so the power that brought Jesus back to

life the power that raised Lazarus from

the dead the life that healed all sick

who were brought to Jesus is the same

life that heals broken bones arrests

cancer and destroys viruses in your life

today it's Holy Spirit power it's Holy

Spirit quickening in our mortal bodies

it is true as well that life is not just

a physical thing but it is a spiritual

thing the Holy Spirit works life in us

so that we who were once spiritually

dead to God are alive once again so that

we can know him we can hear him we can

see him we can be connected and related

to him that we can experience the

fullness of life that comes from

relationship with God this eternal

connection with God is only available

because the Holy Spirit gives us

spiritual life once again this is what

Jesus was talking about in John 3 when

he said "Man must not only be born of

the flesh but born of the what?" Spirit

spirit giving life to your spirit holy

Spirit giving life to your spirit making

you new and alive to the things of God

once again that's the quickening power

of God and it's true as well that the

Holy Spirit also quickens us in our soul

that third part of who we are we're a

body well we are a spirit we have a soul

we live in a body so sometimes my body

needs life given to it life worked in it

and that's when healing and deliverance

from disease and things of that nature

come my spirit needs to be made alive so

that I can be born again made new be

given a new nature be made a new

creation so that I can know and receive

from God but my soul also needs the

working of life in it i need my mind my

will and my emotions to come into line

with the truth you see there there are

dead ways to think and alive ways to

think there are worldly ways to think

and heavenly ways to think there are

dark ways to think and believe and

expect and feel and there are light ways

to think and expect and feel amen and we

need the Holy Spirit to do this

quickening work of giving life in our

soul as well that that he reminds us of

what's true that he teaches us what's

right what's good that he comforts us

that's a soul thing that the comforter

our helper comes and brings comfort to

our soul that's him giving you life in

that area of of your life and so the

Holy Spirit wants to quicken every

single part of you there is no part of

you that the Holy Spirit is not

concerned with and actively desiring to

make more alive than it was before this

is the kind of life that God wills for

us and the word is so expressly clear

that it happens by the power of the Holy

Spirit romans 8 isn't the only verse to

this in fact Jesus said in John 6 verse

John 6:63

63 if you want to find it in your Bible

John 6:63 you might just want to you

John 6:63

know mark this highlight it make sure

you can find this and come back to it in

John 6:63 Jesus says "The spirit alone,"

John 6:63

isn't that interesting the spirit alone

gives eternal life human effort

accomplishes nothing and the very words

I have spoken to you Jesus says are

spirit and life and Jesus is

acknowledging here these words I'm

speaking are by the power or by the life

or by the quickening by the help of the

Holy Spirit isn't that cool that Jesus

even says what I'm sharing with you

right now these words of life they're

coming through the Holy Spirit because

he's the one that works life jesus said

he gives all the credit he says the

spirit alone gives eternal life the

spirit alone is the one who works this

life and I can tell you I've certainly

tried the human effort accomplishing it

part i've I've tried to make that work

in my life at times where I need

something to change i need something to

work i need a breakthrough on something

and I just think I'm going to figure it

out i'm going to work this one through

i'll study a little bit and I'll I'll

figure it out let me tell you I I have

never seen the best results coming

through my own effort it's always when

the Holy Spirit interjects into the

situation because he brings life

I I have I have wrestled with problems

in my mind for hours for days and not

come to any viable conclusion and then

in a moment like I'm not even thinking

about that

thing and and the wind the Holy Spirit

just blows in the answer that I needed

and in a moment I've got I've got the

whole of what's going to work you know

why not by my power not by my might not

by my human effort but by his spirit who

brings

life and so it is the Holy Spirit who

brings us this kind of life this

abundant satisfying rich life and so I

think first if we're going to step into

this kind of life I I I mean the first

thing we need to recognize is we don't

do it on our own we don't earn it on our

own we we don't make it happen on our

own and that if we're going to receive

the life we have to be receptive to the

Holy

Spirit jesus himself said "It is the

spirit alone who brings eternal life."

And so how could I expect to receive

life apart from the spirit who brings

life how could I expect like I'm I'm

going to live this this kind of life

that the word promises and Jesus shows

and exemplifies but I'm going to try to

do it without the Holy Spirit i'll just

tell you that doesn't work

and the many disappointments that you

know Christians have felt I believe is

because they reject the Holy Spirit they

don't receive this quickening power this

quickening work of the Holy Spirit

because they reject him and who he is a

verse we'll talk about in a few minutes

speaks of quenching the Holy Spirit

that's a very dangerous thing to do

because when you quench the worker of

life you also quench the work of life

amen

i mean if if I was having a plumbing

problem in my home and I've had them

before and I invited a plumber to come

in and fix this thing for me but then I

said "You know what i I want the fix but

I I don't want you working in here so

why don't you just take it all outside i

don't want you in my house would it be

foolish to think my pipes are getting

fixed that day as I push the one who's

there to fix them out?" Well this

happens with the Holy Spirit we say

"Lord I want you to do something in my

life i I need comfort for this thing or

I need revelation on this thing i I need

understanding about this thing i I need

healing on this thing but you know what

i'm just not sure about the Holy Spirit

i I don't know that I I want the Holy

Spirit in the way that the Bible talks

about the Holy Spirit i I've got

concerns about the Holy Spirit because

I've been taught things by people who

reject the Holy Spirit and and they

don't see the Holy Spirit working in

their life but hey I don't I don't want

to get off so I'm going to just reject

who the Holy Spirit is and what he does

and we miss out on life as a result of

that the reality of this wonderful

promise of life is appropriated by

walking in the spirit there's just no

other way to experience life manifest in

us other than walking by the spirit you

want to know how to how to get words in

your life walk in the spirit you want to

know how to experience healing in your

life walk in the spirit you want to know

how to see needs miraculously met walk

in the spirit i mean it it seems like a

blanket answer but it's really not that

it it is a dependency on the active work

of our helper the Holy Spirit in our

life every single day that's how we live

in a state of quickened that's how we

live this life that Jesus shows and

describes to

us there is general agreement throughout

Christianity about what God is able to

do can we pretty much agree with that i

I think every Christian would say "Yeah

God is able to do anything he can do

amazing things." Yeah God is able to

heal he's able to deliver he He's able

to do a lot of stuff and I think there's

general agreement on that but many in

the Christian faith do not see the life

of God at work because they're not open

to the way in which he works jesus said

"The spirit alone gives life." The same

spirit will quicken you even in Jesus's

life and

ministry the amazing things that

happened were accomplished by the spirit

in him you know before Jesus was

baptized and the Holy Spirit descended

upon him like a dove we don't see one

miraculous thing happen we we don't hear

about him speaking these prophetic

things out we don't see him raising

people from the dead we don't see him

driving demons out we don't see him

multiplying bread and

fish but after the Holy Spirit fills him

what happens the miracles begin amazing

ministry happens he he brings you know

there's this conviction to his word

where people come and want to be

baptized and want to repent of their old

ways and give their life to him and it

all happens because the Holy Spirit

comes and he quickens the ministry of

Jesus he puts life into Jesus ministry

and life jesus was raised by the spirit

isn't that an interesting recognition

that that Jesus didn't just raise

himself up out of the grave no it says

the same spirit that raised Jesus out of

the grave works in you even Jesus needed

the ministry of the Holy Spirit to come

and work life in him had Jesus rejected

the Holy Spirit he he wouldn't have been

Christ he wouldn't have been he couldn't

have been the Messiah without the help

of the Holy Spirit could Jesus have

accomplished the plan of God apart from

the Holy Spirit i truly believe the

answer is no

so can you and I accomplish God's plan

for us without the help of the Holy

Spirit

i don't think I've got more than Jesus

does so if he needed the Holy Spirit I

absolutely need the Holy Spirit if Jesus

needed the Holy Spirit I don't have a

shot without the Holy Spirit amen we

need the Holy Spirit we need to stay in

and stay full of the spirit if we wish

to live in this promise of quickening

and I'll just tell you God doesn't make

it hard he He really does make it so

easy for us people think that it's hard

to get the promises of God to work in

your life like I've got to I've got to

make myself so holy isn't that trying to

get something through human efforts but

doesn't the word say it's not by human

efforts but by the spirit working in us

you know we try to earn things mira we

try to earn miracles we try to earn

words we try to earn these things from

God and we just can't do that god makes

it so simple he doesn't give a a

formula he just asks us to receive the

gift of the Holy Spirit in first or 2

2 Corinthians 3:6

Corinthians 3:6 i love this verse i kind

of found I stumbled upon this

unexpectedly studying this week and I

just I love it so much this might be one

of my favorite things in the message so

you ready you ready for a little nugget

of goodness here in 2 Corinthians 3:6

2 Corinthians 3:6

says "He has enabled us to be ministers

of this new covenant." This is a

covenant not of written laws but of the

spirit the old written covenant ends in

death but the new covenant the spirit

gives life i've never thought about this

before that the new covenant is the

covenant of the spirit the covenant of

the spirit the covenant that is ruled by

the spirit the covenant that is dictated

by the spirit the covenant that is

fulfilled by the spirit just think for a

moment because this is the comparison

that is made here if if the law was what

ruled in the old covenant the spirit is

what rules in the new covenant so that

tells me the the responsibility that the

law had in the old covenant has been

given to the Holy Spirit in the new

covenant that tells me like this in the

old covenant the way that you got

blessing was by fulfilling the law in

the New Testament the way you live

blessed is by being full of the Holy

Spirit amen because it's his covenant

the covenant of the spirit he is the

central piece to this covenant just like

the law was the central piece to the old

covenant i I mean let me say this the

old covenant it was it was established

by blood on Mount Cyani that there was

blood sprinkled to seal that covenant

just like Jesus blood was sprinkled to

seal the new

covenant but it wasn't just the blood of

the sacrifice that made the old covenant

the old covenant no it was also the

presence of the law the written law i

mean that's that's what the covenant was

made up of right well in the new

covenant it's made up of the Holy Spirit

it's made up of the power the leading

the direction the blessing of the Holy

Spirit so how could we ever live this

Christian life apart from the Holy

Spirit

how can I live in this covenant of of

blessing apart from the spirit who who

makes up this covenant a covenant of the

spirit the Holy Spirit is the key to

carrying out the new covenant without

the Holy Spirit we just can't carry out

the new covenant it would be impossible

to live out the old covenant without the

laws in a similar way it's impossible to

live out the new covenant without the

Holy Spirit do y'all see that like I see

it this morning

without the Holy Spirit I I just don't

see any way to live this to do this it's

impossible to live the new covenant

without the Holy Spirit who is who is

central to it this is where we talk

about walking in the spirit and

Galatians 5 we'll go there in a moment

has some things to say about it before

we do this let let me show you something

Jesus emphasized this is what he was

telling his disciples about what he was

going to accomplish and what he was

going to do for them in John 7:38 it

John 7:38

says "Anyone who believes in me," Jesus

is speaking this out jesus says "Anyone

who believes in me may come and drink."

Or you could say "Come and receive come

and take of what I'm offering what I'm

giving." For the scriptures declare

"Rivers of living water will flow from

his heart." But when he said living

water he was speaking of the Spirit who

would be given to everyone believing in

him but the spirit had not yet been

given because Jesus had not yet entered

into his glory and so when Jesus

sacrificed himself when he was given on

the cross what he did was he gave the

opportunity for people to receive the

Holy Spirit to be filled with the Holy

Spirit so that they could live and carry

out this kind of life that he had

promised to them this living water he

says will flow out of your heart that

when you receive Jesus and what he's

done for you when when you are bought by

his blood you are made able to receive

the gift of the Holy Spirit who will

come and work life in you says out of

our heart we're we're the ones who

believe and this is who he's talking

about anyone who believes may come and

drink he says "And out of their hearts

will flow rivers of living water." Later

in John 14 and 16 those two chapters

Jesus speaks more about the Holy Spirit

he he he describes some of the

lifegiving things that the Holy Spirit

would come to do jesus talks about how

the Holy Spirit would come to be a

helper to be an advocate someone that

walks with us and next to us to

strengthen us to support us to make us

able to do the things we were created to

do jesus talks about how the Holy Spirit

would teach us how he would remind us

how he would declare to us things that

are to come he would give us an

assurance about the things of the future

he would glorify Jesus and he would

bring conviction these are all things

that the Holy Spirit does and so this

river of living water brings life by

doing these different things that Jesus

said he would come and do and then later

if we if we go over to 1 Corinthians 12

I'm not going to go and read through the

list this morning it could probably be a

whole series in itself but we see gifts

of the spirit working and over in Romans

I think chapter 12 we we see these

motivations these other kinds of gifts

that the Holy Spirit uh works these

motivations that the Holy Spirit works

in our hearts and purifies us with so

that we can be useful in the kingdom and

so the Holy Spirit has these these many

different ways that he works in our life

does these many different wonderful

things in our life but it all comes out

of the flow of having received him into

our heart you see I would say it this

way to you jesus said "Out of his heart

out of our heart flow rivers of living

water." That tells me that the Holy

Spirit does not only do these things the

Holy Spirit does not only flow in church

services or in my morning devotional

time but his quickening power is meant

to work in my life

24/7 did you know a river of living

water is a river that continues to flow

when it stops flowing it's no longer

living when a river stops moving it's no

longer a living river living water it

becomes a pond becomes stagnant the Holy

Spirit is always moving the Holy

Spirit's always alive and living and

working things of life he's always

bringing freshness into your life always

working life in

you always moving always working amen

can you say that amen that the Holy

Spirit's always moving you know other

places in scripture the Holy Spirit's

likened to wind i've never known wind

not to be moving amen i mean sometimes

there's a lack of wind and then there's

not a lot of movement but man when

there's wind there's movement amen and

the Holy Spirit is always moving always

working always doing and so the issue is

this if if we have the Holy Spirit in

our heart if I've been filled baptized

in the spirit then it's out of my heart

that he wants to flow i I can't just

show up at places and hope that

someone's going to have the Holy Spirit

flowing out of their heart

today because he's been given to me

you see G Jesus he doesn't say "Hey

after you believe in me and you get

saved and you're you receive go chase

after places where the Holy Spirit's

showing up." That's not what Jesus said

is it

he didn't say go chase after you know

the place where people are yelling the

loudest dancing and hey I'm all for that

i'd love to do more of that but he said

in your heart there's going to be living

water so let it flow out of your heart

amen now can we benefit from can we be

encouraged by the flow uh that comes out

of other people's hearts absolutely and

we ought to be but we need to make a

choice to join into that amen i need to

make a choice that I'm not going to

restrict i'm not going to quench i'm not

going to inhibit the flow of life that

God wants to bring through and out of me

he's always moving always working and

the Holy Spirit wants to bring life

through you the Holy Spirit wants to

flow in his life through and out of you

out of the heart of the one who believes

in Jesus flows rivers of living water

but we must choose to

cooperate you see we got a choice in

this thing

the Holy Spirit doesn't make you accept

his quickening power he He doesn't make

you accept his guidance his leading his

help his comfort y'all ever rejected the

comfort of the Holy Spirit i've done

that before no Lord I just want to feel

bad about this for a little bit okay all

right you do that you know what he's

waiting for me that river's waiting for

me when I'm ready to step

in all right every day is quickening

season when we're full of the Holy

Spirit if you have the river of living

water in you then we don't have to wait

on it to be poured out somewhere else if

the river's in me then every day should

be quickening time

you see I love spring season because we

have all these examples of new life all

these examples of quickening that happen

around us but I want you to know this

god does not restrict his life to only a

certain season god is not holding back

his power and life because oh it's just

not time yet well we're in the winter

well no it's a matter of let the flow go

let the flow go cooperate with the Holy

Spirit let him lead you let him comfort

you let him heal you let him work in

your life expect it receive it with

gladness don't quench it every day ought

to be quickening season when we walk

full of the Holy Spirit in Galatians

Galatians 5:25

5:25 says "Since we are living by the

spirit," what does that mean because we

are alive by the power of the Holy

Spirit you know I truly believe this if

if God just pulled all his power out of

the earth we'd all just die in a moment

i I don't believe that we could survive

without the power of God in fact the

word says uh in him we live and we move

and we have our being without him how

how can we even live i don't know the

word says that Jesus upholds he sustains

the world by the word of his power and

so we must choose to to walk with our

life in the spirit but so Galatians 5:25

Galatians 5:25

since we're living by the spirit let us

follow the spirit's leading in every

part of our lives let us So that's not

that's not a decision that's already

been made right that's a call to make

the right choice let us do

this you know if I said "Hey after

church let us all go to the Mexican

restaurant and eat some chips." You

would have a choice to make right i

think that's a pretty easy choice

and if Taylor's watching downstairs I

just got sentenced to go into the

Mexican restaurant after church i

shouldn't say sentenced we like going

there anyway if I say let us that's a

choice to make right i'm offering you an

opportunity you should choose to do this

this is what is being spoken inspired by

the Holy Spirit through the writer Paul

since we're living by the spirit let us

let's choose let's make the right choice

and follow the spirit's leading in every

part of our lives but that also tells me

we can also choose to

not see we have this offer before us

choose to follow after

him will you say with me every part

every part that's what Galatians 5:25

Galatians 5:25

says doesn't say let us follow him in in

the place where we need it most says let

us follow the spirit's leading in every

part of our lives so our points so far

this morning are these quickening is the

lifegiving power of God point number two

we live quickened as we follow the Holy

Spirit here's my third point for you

this morning quickening is a bundle

deal quickening is a bundle deal and I

take it back to Galatians

Galatians 5:25

5:25 let us follow the Spirit's leading

in every part of our lives you know when

you buy a bundle deal it's not like the

dollar menu you buy a combo you get

everything that's in the

combo i mean if if you want to pick and

choose well then you're not getting

you're not getting the combo you're not

getting the bundle you're you're just

trying to get items off the value meal

right god isn't the value meal god isn't

a pick it choose it take what you want

and leave the rest god's not a

scrapyard that was I like that god's not

a scrapyard where you just get to pick

and choose from what you see laid out

before you oh I read the Bible i just

take the verses I like and leave the

rest we don't like that

right and yet at

times we can be prone to living this way

when it comes to the Holy Spirit oh yeah

i like the Holy Spirit's comfort but I

don't want any conviction in my life hey

I like that he wants to heal me but I

wish he would just leave me alone about

this sin that I I've been entertaining

for so

long quickening is a bundle

deal you take the Holy Spirit or you

don't you walk with the spirit or you

don't you see the Holy Spirit he he is

so kind so gracious so

merciful but when the Holy Spirit walks

with you you don't get to set the rules

and say "Holy Spirit you can talk to me

about these things but not these things

you can work in this way but not in this

way no Holy Spirit's God he's going to

do what he wants to do he's going to

work how he wants to work and he's going

to give you the opportunity to walk with

him in that or or not you can choose

will I walk in the spirit or will I walk

apart from him you see the Holy Spirit's

not only interested in the area of your

life where you would like

help as much as we all love a good

self-help message as much as we all like

getting the thing that we want for

dinner and we like getting told the

thing we want to hear the Holy Spirit's

not only interested in working life in

the area where I want it he desires life

for the whole of your being he desires

you to be alive spirit soul and body in

every area and we see this resounding

through scripture third John 1:2 says

3 John 1:2

"Dear friend I hope all is well with you

and that you are as healthy in body as

you are strong in spirit." What is that

whole life your whole life i mentioned

earlier 1 Thessalonians 5:23 now may the

1 Thessalonians 5:23

God of peace make you holy isn't that an

interesting word to interject here

holiness in every way and may your whole

spirit soul and body be kept blameless

until our Lord Jesus comes again and so

even there this holy set aart sanctified

alive way it's it's not just for me to

feel good but it's for me to be refined

for me to be made useful for for me to

be cleansed by the power of God cleansed

by the Holy Spirit of God this is what

he wants for you total life total peace

total blameless total

holiness quickening is according to his

will for your life not your will for

your life can you say amen to that

church see Holy Spirit will quicken you

according to what God says according to

God's will not our will quickening is a

work according to his will his will I'll

tell you this God's will is for you to

be healed it's everywhere in scripture

god's You will not find a scripture that

confirms the point that God does not

want people healed it's not in the Bible

god's will is for you to be healed god's

will is for you to be saved that's what

the Holy Spirit works toward is healing

toward salvation let me give you another

one the Holy The Holy Spirit and God the

Father Son and Spirit god's will is for

you to be free from

sin god's will for your life is freedom

from sin he doesn't want you to stay

stuck doesn't want you to stay

captivated doesn't want you to stay uh

oppressed by it he wants you free from

sin in 1 Thessalonians 4:3 we we see

1 Thessalonians 4:3

this is verbatim it is God's will that

you be

sanctified that you be set apart made

different god wants you to be different

than the rest of the world the Holy

Spirit will make you different than the

rest of the world and so if the goal

that you have for your life is to fit in

to the world you're going to have a hard

time walking in the

spirit oh that got a really good amen

this morning don't we love

that but it's the truth

he's going to make me different because

he's different than the world is his

nature is different than the world's

nature 1 Thessalonians

1 Thessalonians 5:18

5:18 his will for you is to be thankful

in every circumstance and so what's the

Holy Spirit going to do he's going to

make you

thankful he's going to put gratitude in

your heart so if you don't like being a

thankful person you're going to have a

hard time walking walking along with the

spirit or you're going to have to choose

to give some things up you're going to

have to choose to let go of some things

so you can walk with the spirit and that

that is just the case all of these

things are accomplished by the work of

his quickening power i'll say it again

it's not by our might it's not by our

trying it's not by our strength it's by

the Holy Spirit's power and so this

should encourage you because like if I'm

talking about this and I I'm I'm talking

about sin for example and you're

thinking of some sin maybe you've dealt

with some sin for a long time and you're

thinking "Oh well then I I guess I'm

ineligible i guess I can't walk in the

spirit because I can't overcome this

thing i haven't been able to fix myself

with this thing it's not your work to do

that
