  1. Turn in your Bible to Matthew 25.

  2. We've taken a long time to get here.

  3. We've really slowed down. I can't take time every single

  4. week to remind you of the fullest context possible.

  5. But remember, Jesus has been a man on a mission marching

  6. towards the cross. Imagine if you knew when you

  7. were going to die. It's a game that we'll play a

  8. lot of times at dinner. Me and the boys will ask all

  9. kinds of different questions. We'll have these family talking

  10. cards. And it's like if you could be an

  11. animal for a day or if you could this or if you could that, or if

  12. you could travel in in the past or in the future, which would it

  13. be and why? And all kinds of things.

  14. One of them is if you if you could find out when you were

  15. going to die and you wouldn't impact it by finding it out, it

  16. would just be like, no, this is it's set.

  17. If you could find it out, would you want to know?

  18. Just an interesting thought experiment.

  19. Some people say, yeah, I want to know because I want to maximize

  20. the time. Other people like, no, I'd

  21. rather just be surprised when the bus comes and hits me or

  22. whatever's going to happen there and just let it be a wow, didn't

  23. see that coming. But Jesus knew.

  24. He knew and Jesus chose his death.

  25. That's the difference. Most of us, I'm trying to avoid

  26. mine. I don't want to prolong mine as

  27. long as possible, delay it. And Jesus saying I'm choosing

  28. mine. I know when it's coming.

  29. And he's been marching towards the cross.

  30. He has been orchestrating his own death.

  31. He's been creating the circumstances that he knew would

  32. lead to his own death. Remember, he's not a victim of

  33. circumstance. They tried to kill him multiple

  34. times. They wanted to stone him.

  35. Not going to happen. They wanted to throw him off a

  36. Cliff. Not going to happen.

  37. He lays his life down. He has the power to lay it down.

  38. He has the power to take it back up again.

  39. But he also has that weight coming upon him knowing that

  40. he's not just going to die any death.

  41. He's going to have a tormented, tormented suffering, a physical

  42. and excruciating. That word excruciating actually

  43. means literally means from the cross.

  44. That's where we get the word excruciating.

  45. So if we're trying to describe something as it was

  46. excruciatingly painful, that word excruciating come means

  47. from the cross. So the cross was the most

  48. horrific thing that humans had been able to come up with.

  49. And the Romans were very, very, very good at their jobs.

  50. They knew how to prolong your death.

  51. They knew how to make you suffer in your hands, in your feet and

  52. your head, and simultaneously you're suffocating.

  53. And of course, that's after the beating that Jesus endured.

  54. He knows what's coming, and he chooses what's coming because

  55. he's good, because he's perfect, because he wants to please the

  56. Father, because he loves you. But he has this weight on him.

  57. It's a heavyweight. It's a dread.

  58. Jesus isn't fearful, but Jesus feels the dread and the

  59. pressure, not to mention the separation he's going to

  60. experience from the Father, which he reveals when he cries

  61. out on the cross. My God, my God, why have you

  62. forsaken me? The Father forsakes Jesus.

  63. Why does the Father forsake Jesus?

  64. So that you will not have to be forsaken.

  65. Somebody's got to be forsaken. The enemies of God had to be

  66. forsaken. But Jesus said I'll be forsaken,

  67. Father, and we'll have a substitution.

  68. And now if you put faith in Jesus, he becomes the one who

  69. was forsaken and you can become the beloved Son of God.

  70. We say son that includes daughters because all throughout

  71. Scripture the Son is the one who receives the inheritance.

  72. So the Bible is not sexist. To say that you're a son of God

  73. is a good thing to women and to men.

  74. You're to be a son of God is to say like you're a sheep in his

  75. pasture. I'm not a sheep, I'm a human

  76. being. Yes, I know.

  77. And also it's good to be a sheep.

  78. It's good to be a son of God. That means you'll receive the

  79. full inheritance that applies to male and female.

  80. So now we've come. Jesus has been preaching.

  81. He was dropping the nuclear bombs to really ensure ensure

  82. what's going to happen to him in the next couple of days.

  83. He humiliates the Pharisees, He humiliates everybody who who

  84. opposes him. They test Him and remember He's

  85. the Passover lamb who's going to be sacrificed.

  86. Nobody realizes that yet, but He realizes that, and the Passover

  87. lambs had to be inspected and tested first.

  88. Jesus is inspected and tested and inspected and tested.

  89. They think that they found flaws and that they found fault.

  90. They have not. He passes every test perfectly

  91. and in fact, He tests those who tests Him and He finds them

  92. lacking. And then he shares in in chapter

  93. 24, Jesus leaves the temple. He's going away in verse 1 of 24

  94. when his disciples came to the to point out to him the

  95. buildings of the temple. So they're probably just saying,

  96. Lord, like this play, isn't it magnificent?

  97. I mean, I know we've been here multiple times together, Jesus,

  98. but the temple, the whole complex is so amazing.

  99. And they're just saying, like, look at the architecture, Lord,

  100. They're just, hey, Jesus, look at that.

  101. Like it's just amazing that we did that the, the, the Lord's

  102. design and they're just enjoying it and they're pointing it out.

  103. Not, not too different from what me and the family did this week

  104. at Universal Studios. Wow, wow.

  105. Look what they did. Just enjoying it, delighting in

  106. the beauty of it. And Jesus, Jesus answered them.

  107. You see all of these, do you? Not truly.

  108. I say to you, there will not be left here 1 stone upon another

  109. that will not be thrown down. So kind of a turns the corner

  110. there. Why he has a heavyweight on him.

  111. He's not grumpy, in a bad mood, but he needs his disciples to

  112. understand the stakes of what's going on.

  113. Today's not a day to admire architecture, Boys.

  114. You've got less than 72 hours left with me.

  115. I need to make sure that all the lessons land and that they land

  116. deeply. All these stones.

  117. You see, boys, this whole place is going to be destroyed.

  118. Which leads them to their question.

  119. Then as he sat on the Mount of Olives in verse 3 of 24, the

  120. disciples came to him privately saying, tell us when will these

  121. things be and what will be the sign of your coming at the end

  122. of the age? That was the question or

  123. questions that they asked. Tell us when will these things

  124. be and what will be the sign of your coming at the end of the

  125. age? And now Jesus gives what?

  126. Matthew devotes 2 chapters to his answer to that question.

  127. The longest answer we've had from Jesus for any question he's

  128. been asked anywhere in the gospels.

  129. He gives 2 chapters and he starts to talk about this is

  130. what it's going to look like at the sign of my coming.

  131. And I showed you, hey, there are faithful Christian perspectives

  132. on how the world's going to end. Some of us feel really sure.

  133. Some of us are like me, like I'm not exactly sure how it's all

  134. going to unfold. I know for sure he's coming

  135. back. We celebrated the unity that we

  136. have there together. And then Jesus goes on and he

  137. tells 3 parables he's still answering their question of what

  138. it will be like at his coming. He gives the parable about the

  139. the faithful servant and the foolish servant, The foolish

  140. servant who says to himself, the wicked servant says, my master

  141. is delayed and he begins to act wickedly.

  142. He does evil things, actively does bad things.

  143. And then he gave us the parable of the 10 virgins, 5 are wise

  144. and five are foolish. The five foolish virgins, they

  145. didn't actively go do an evil thing, but they were negligent

  146. of the work that was assigned to them.

  147. And then the parable of the talents again, the foolish

  148. servant, the one with one talent, he didn't actively go do

  149. an evil thing. He didn't go spin his the the

  150. wealth foolishly or wickedly. He just preserved it and did

  151. nothing with it. And the Lord said that was also

  152. wicked And we said, man, I, I like the wicked servant story

  153. because I see like go do wicked stuff.

  154. You get terrible punishment, but the the the foolish virgins,

  155. these beautiful young girls, the bridesmaids, they've been so

  156. excited. Let us into the wedding.

  157. Sorry we're late, we had to go get oil.

  158. He says I don't know you and you're not coming in.

  159. The wedding is the is eternity with the Lord.

  160. That's what the wedding is in reference to.

  161. And then the parable of the talents.

  162. He says take from the one who has one and give it to the one

  163. who has 10 already. Take from him and give to him.

  164. Why? Because the Lord is smart.

  165. He's a smart investor. He's saying I'm going to reward

  166. faithfulness. I'm going to reward

  167. fruitfulness. And we found that the Lord wants

  168. a return on our lives. So he's finished these three

  169. parables. The wicked servant is thrown out

  170. into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and

  171. gnashing of teeth. And now we've come to Jesus's

  172. final clarification, His final answer, His final teaching as he

  173. answers this question. Chapter 25, verse 31.

  174. When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with

  175. him, he will then sit on his glorious throne.

  176. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will

  177. separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the

  178. sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on

  179. his right, but the goats on his left.

  180. Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you are

  181. blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you

  182. from the foundation of the world.

  183. For I was hungry and you gave me food.

  184. I was thirsty and you gave me drink.

  185. I was a stranger and you welcomed me.

  186. I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me.

  187. I was in prison and you came to me.

  188. Then the righteous will answer him, saying, Lord, when did we

  189. see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?

  190. When did we see you a stranger, and welcome you, or naked and

  191. clothe you? And when do we see you in sick

  192. or in prison, and visit you? And the king will answer them

  193. truly. I say to you, as you did it to

  194. one of the least of these, my brothers, you did it to me.

  195. Then he will say to those on his left, depart from me you cursed

  196. into the eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.

  197. For I was hungry, and you gave me no food.

  198. I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink.

  199. I was a stranger, and you did not welcome me naked, and you

  200. did not clothe me sick and imprisoned, and you did not

  201. visit me. Then they will answer also

  202. saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or

  203. stranger or naked or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to

  204. you? Then He will answer them,

  205. saying, truly I say to you, as You did not do it to one of the

  206. least of these, you did not do it to me.

  207. And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the

  208. righteous into eternal life. Heavenly Father, we have been

  209. seeing the weight of Jesus, the weight of your judgments, the

  210. perfection of your judgments, and all your justice and all

  211. your grace. God, I pray to day that we would

  212. see both the love of God and the fear of God.

  213. I pray that you would mark us that way as Christians.

  214. That we would truly be mature, that we would truly grow up,

  215. That we would truly love you. That we would truly not not air

  216. towards one or the other. That we would not be more of a

  217. grace focused person or more of a fear of the Lord focused

  218. person. But that we would be a person

  219. trained and instructed by the scriptures who are marked deeply

  220. by the Holy Spirit led to be the right thing at the right time.

  221. That we would receive your grace.

  222. That we would walk in a holy fear and that it would compel us

  223. with your love to tell the truth to everyone that we know and

  224. love. That they would be spared, that

  225. they would be rescued. In Jesus name.

  226. I thank you, I need you. Amen.

  227. One of the things we need to point out, and I'll continue to

  228. do so throughout the sermon today, is that a quick reading.

  229. If I don't know any else, if I don't know anything else in my

  230. Bible and this is all I read, I would come away from this

  231. passage thinking these people go to heaven because of the good

  232. things that they did, and these people went to hell because of

  233. the bad things that they did. Could you agree with that?

  234. Could you see that? If this is all I ever read and I

  235. had nothing else, I would go. They took care of the poor and

  236. they didn't. So that's why they go to heaven

  237. and that's why they go to hell. That's the opposite of what I

  238. shared. You know, before the service,

  239. what we were talking about earlier is that you don't earn

  240. anything. But what we're recognizing here

  241. is judgment. The judgment is what we're

  242. seeing here. This is just the judgment at the

  243. end. And he's using these things as

  244. evidence of what was in the heart.

  245. So they're not going to heaven and they're not going to hell.

  246. You are nice to poor people. You get to come to heaven.

  247. You earned it. You deserved it.

  248. You sacrificed for poor people for crying out loud.

  249. You were very kind and now you deserve to be in heaven forever.

  250. It's not what's happening. And he doesn't say you were mean

  251. to poor people and therefore you're going to hell forever.

  252. What he's saying is this is the evidence that you were saved.

  253. Yes, this proves who you always were, not always were who you

  254. became in Christ. This proves who you were.

  255. These are just the evidences that are being brought up in the

  256. courtroom before the judge. So we've often said, and it's

  257. often been said, hey, if you were convicted, if you were

  258. charged with being a Christian, they dragged you into court,

  259. you're under arrest, you're standing there.

  260. Is there enough evidence to convict you?

  261. You would hope that the answer would be yes, But remember, the

  262. evidence needs to actually be good fruit, not look at all my

  263. church attendance. Anybody can put their body in a

  264. seat on a Sunday morning. We're talking about fruit that

  265. came out of the heart. Well, look how much Bible I

  266. know. Anybody can stuff information

  267. into their brain. We're talking about fruit that

  268. came out of the heart. Those are the evidences that the

  269. Lord says proves what's already happened in the heart.

  270. So salvation is by God's grace through faith.

  271. Judgment does not make a person a sheep or a goat.

  272. The judgment here is just exposing what they already were.

  273. That's what's happening. Faith that is real always

  274. produces love that is real. Empty religion gets exposed when

  275. Jesus shows up. So what Jesus is describing in

  276. this passage is not how people earn heaven, but Jesus is

  277. showing how heaven shows who already belongs to him.

  278. I'll say it another way. Salvation is not earned by

  279. action, but salvation is revealed by action.

  280. Salvation is not earned by action, but of course it is

  281. revealed by action. They'll know us by our love.

  282. They'll know us by our fruits. Jesus tells us over and over and

  283. over to judge a tree by its fruit.

  284. That's how we know what kind of tree it is.

  285. That's how we can be certain the fruit it produces tells us all.

  286. I know what kind of tree this is.

  287. This is a Christian tree. How do you know?

  288. We'll look at all the good fruit that doesn't come from anything

  289. else except the work of God inside of that tree.

  290. And the work of God in that tree makes that tree a Christian

  291. tree. That tree is saved not because

  292. it's giving good fruit. It's giving good fruit because

  293. it's saved. The Lord saved the tree.

  294. The Lord made the tree new, and now the tree can't do anything

  295. except give good fruit. Oh, is there an exception to

  296. that? Well, there is.

  297. Oh, the tree has a piece of bad fruit, but everywhere else is

  298. good fruit that needs to be cut off and burned.

  299. That's an exception. It's not who the tree is.

  300. The tree is capable of producing a piece of bad fruit.

  301. Any Christians in here ever produce a piece of bad fruit

  302. even after they've been in Christ?

  303. I have. Does that mean that you lost

  304. your salvation in that moment? No, it doesn't.

  305. And yet the Lord says put on the new man and don't put on the old

  306. man. So once we become saved, imagine

  307. the Lord puts us in the shower and he washes us and cleans us.

  308. Ta da, you're a new creation. But you walk back into the

  309. bedroom and there's two sets of clothes now.

  310. There's the old set that you used to wear, and there's a new

  311. set that the Lord laid out for you.

  312. You are brand new and you are clean.

  313. And when we put on that old set of clothes, it's just a gross

  314. thought, isn't it? Imagine coming in, taking a

  315. shower for a hot, sweaty day, working in the yard, and you put

  316. on that same set of clothes. It's not right.

  317. That's how it feels to a Christian when we sin, we put

  318. it's we're putting on the old man and the Lord's going, what

  319. are you doing? That's not who you are.

  320. That's not who you are. Yes, you're wearing the wrong

  321. clothes. Take those off.

  322. You've been washed, you've been cleansed.

  323. We need to burn the old clothes. We need to get rid of the old

  324. clothes and put on the new man. So remember, Jesus here is

  325. describing the judgement at the end.

  326. He's not describing the means of salvation.

  327. Remember our context. He's saying when the Son of Man

  328. comes in his glory, this is what the judgement will be like Verse

  329. 31, when the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels

  330. with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.

  331. This is the final return. When Jesus is coming back, all

  332. the boys, all the disciples are there listening.

  333. They're leaning in. He's going, this is going to

  334. happen, this is going to happen, this is going, they're going.

  335. That's a lot. That's a lot coming.

  336. And, you know, they had more questions that they didn't ask

  337. them. And because they didn't ask

  338. those follow up questions, then the church has been disagreeing

  339. on certain parts there for 2000 years ago.

  340. I think it says something, it says something isn't.

  341. I wish one of the guys would just be like, hey, abomination

  342. that causes desolation. And the thing about all the they

  343. didn't go there. The final return.

  344. This is when he comes back and he's sitting on a, he's still

  345. sitting on a throne, but it's a different throne.

  346. He comes in all his glory and all the angels with him.

  347. Then he will sit on his glorious throne.

  348. The first time Jesus came, he didn't come in all his glory.

  349. He came modestly. He came quietly.

  350. The next time Jesus comes, it's not modest and it's not quiet.

  351. This is really actually going to happen.

  352. And those who believe it are going to live in preparation for

  353. it because they do care and they do believe and they do know that

  354. the Lord is going to return in glory.

  355. Whether or not you think it's going to be a rapture first, or

  356. whether or not you think there's just going to be 1 grand return

  357. all in one moment, no matter how you think it's going to happen,

  358. we all agree that it's going to happen.

  359. We all know that he's actually coming, that he's going to break

  360. open the sky. And it's not just going to be

  361. angels appearing to the shepherds on in the countryside.

  362. It's going to be the King coming in his glory, opening up the

  363. sky. And all his angels, all the

  364. angels will accompany their King, the Lord Jesus Christ, and

  365. the whole world will see the King.

  366. And everyone will either be rejoicing or horrified.

  367. And they'll know instantly what they should do.

  368. Because those who are rejoicing are exciting going.

  369. Yes, I knew it. I've been living for it.

  370. And this is the moment I've been looking for.

  371. My master has returned. I can't wait to to sit with him

  372. and to show him what I've been working on.

  373. Remember the faithful Stuarts, Master?

  374. I took what you gave me and I multiplied it.

  375. They're not afraid when the boss comes back.

  376. Oh, boss is here. Boss is here.

  377. Everybody look busy as a bumper sticker that used to be on the

  378. on cars Christians would put on Jesus is coming soon.

  379. Look busy. You need to do more than it was

  380. a joke, but it's not a good one. We need to do more than look

  381. busy. We need to be fruitful.

  382. So some are going to rejoice and go, my King, my Lord, and others

  383. are going to go. They will say to the mountains,

  384. fall on us, to the hills. They'll say cover us, hide me

  385. from the wrath of the Lamb, because I know exactly what's

  386. about to happen, because I know exactly who he is and I know

  387. exactly what I've done with him. I've been I've wanted to be

  388. separated from him, and now He's going to give me that desire

  389. permanently and eternally. I haven't wanted to submit to

  390. him. I haven't wanted to yield to

  391. him. I haven't wanted to be in

  392. fellowship with Him, and now he's going to give me the desire

  393. of my heart and he's going to produce righteous judgment for

  394. all eternity. The throne of grace in this

  395. moment, when this happens, this future moment, it's ended.

  396. There is no more throne of grace.

  397. That's a wild thing to say. The throne of grace will stop.

  398. Praise God, right now, the throne of grace is open.

  399. Come to the throne of grace and receive mercy and help in a time

  400. of need. That's the throne that he's

  401. sitting on right now. Rejoice in it, be thankful for

  402. it. Come to it over and over and

  403. over and over. But there's a day where he's

  404. going to stand up. The Father's going to say, now's

  405. the time. And the Son is going to come for

  406. his bride and he is going to judge.

  407. And he's going to separate the sheep from the goats.

  408. And it will not be any more grace.

  409. There will not be any more mercy.

  410. It will be time for judgment. The cup of wrath will have

  411. filled up. That bowl will be finished.

  412. And the Lord will say, and now it pours out on who?

  413. On the goats, on those who don't love the Lord, on those who

  414. don't want the Lord. He sits on the throne because he

  415. is in authority and everyone has gathered to him.

  416. Notice before he came in a lot of humility before this time.

  417. He's coming with all the grandeur and all the power that

  418. anyone could ever imagine. The judge does not come to your

  419. house to hear your case, does he?

  420. Now you go to the judge. You go and stand before the

  421. judge. He is the one in authority.

  422. He sits above you. He runs and is in charge of the

  423. courtroom. You will dress how he tells you

  424. to dress. You'll speak how he tells you to

  425. speak. You'll stand when he tells you

  426. to stand. You'll sit when he tells you to

  427. sit. Because he's in charge, Because

  428. he has authority. This is Jesus, the angels are

  429. going to be doing the gathering and we all come before the Lord.

  430. Verse 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he

  431. will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates

  432. the sheep from the goats. Last time He came to the

  433. nations, this time the nations come to him.

  434. Everyone is being rounded up for assessment.

  435. The Lamb who was inspected, the Lamb who was tested, the Lamb

  436. who was found perfect is now the judge.

  437. Everybody judged him before. People been judging Jesus for

  438. 2000 years. Well, I think he's this.

  439. I think he's this, I think he's this.

  440. Your time to judge Him is all finished.

  441. Hope you judge rightly because the one that you thought was

  442. under your thumb, it's been the opposite the whole time Now.

  443. Although like I said earlier, although men thought he was

  444. flawed, the Father knew that he was flawless.

  445. He was perfect. The Lamb is now the Judge and

  446. all are gathered to Him because He is in all authority.

  447. Angels gather and Jesus separates people one from

  448. another. Jesus has been separating people

  449. one from another for a long time.

  450. He said he would, but it wasn't his.

  451. It wasn't his desire, but he said it was inevitable.

  452. He said I've come to I've I'm going to not bring peace, but a

  453. sword. He said you'll have enemies in

  454. your own household. I will turn father against

  455. daughter. I'll turn mother against son.

  456. I'll turn the whole family against one another.

  457. Is that his motive? Is he sowing discord?

  458. No, he's just saying I am that dividing line.

  459. So as some choose to follow me and others don't, there will

  460. inevitably be friction. It's not that the Lord wanted

  461. it, but there will inevitably be friction.

  462. Christians have been turned over by their family members over to

  463. death. That still happens to this day

  464. in Muslim nations. There's still much persecution

  465. that brothers and sisters in Christ experience, and they have

  466. for thousands of years now. But Jesus did not intend for

  467. people to be separated from him or from each other, because

  468. everyone should have and could have chosen to love Him, chosen

  469. to follow Him, chosen to obey Him.

  470. Remember, we're talking about a future moment to come.

  471. When's it coming Soon. Jesus is coming soon, and He's

  472. coming in all of His glory. Here we see not one more chance.

  473. The throne of grace is closed. Now He clarifies who is the

  474. sheep and who is the goat. Sometimes shepherds would mix

  475. their sheep and their goats temporarily, but later they

  476. would divide them. The sheep here represent people

  477. whose hearts are right with God. Goats are stubborn, goats are

  478. defiant. Goats will ram into people, ram

  479. into sheep, ram into the shepherd.

  480. So Jesus punishes them permanently.

  481. Verse 33. And then he will place the sheep

  482. on his right and the goats on his left.

  483. The right hand throughout Scripture is a sign of blessing,

  484. a sign of favour, a sign of provision, a sign of strength, a

  485. sign of selection, a sign of inheritance.

  486. This is where the sons go. This is why Jesus is sitting at

  487. the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

  488. This is why we will sit at the right hand of Jesus.

  489. Sheep will go to the right and goats are disposed of.

  490. Jewish listeners, as soon as they're hearing this, they

  491. already know this is that this is going to be bad for whoever's

  492. on the left hand. As soon as Jesus says, hey, he's

  493. going to separate the right from the left.

  494. They weren't waiting in suspense to wonder which meant which some

  495. some commentaries, some historians have said that in

  496. ancient times they would wipe themselves with the left hand.

  497. And you know, that was they didn't have all of the hygiene

  498. tools that we have today. So the right hand was considered

  499. more preserved and more clean. So you don't want anything to do

  500. with the left hand, but that's where the goats go.

  501. Verse 34. Then the king will say to those

  502. on his right come, you who are blessed by my father, inherit

  503. the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the

  504. world. This makes the humble sheep say

  505. Hallelujah. What a promise, what a treasure,

  506. what a blessing. They are blessed by the Father

  507. and they inherit the Kingdom, the Kingdom that was prepared

  508. from the foundation of the world.

  509. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, and

  510. at that point He still had a Kingdom prepared in God's heart.

  511. He was already preparing. He knew what was coming.

  512. He knew Adam was going to sin. He knew He was going to blow it.

  513. He knew he Jesus was going to come and rescue us, and He knew

  514. He would gather His bride once again and we would all live

  515. happily ever after. And He knew that the goats would

  516. be dealt with as well. From the foundation of the

  517. world. This is what the Lord prepared.

  518. In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God, and the

  519. Word was God. The Lord's been planning this

  520. for a long time. This should just bring you

  521. encouragement. This should just remind you of

  522. grace. Again, even in the middle of all

  523. this judgement, there's much grace still being distributed.

  524. It's still favor, it's still blessing, it's still the Lord's

  525. pleasure to give you the Kingdom, which is just crazy.

  526. I would think if it was me, I would just make me a servant.

  527. Why make us sons? God is that loving.

  528. He cares about us that much. Verse 35, He tells him why I was

  529. hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me

  530. drink. I was a stranger and you

  531. welcomed me. I was naked and you clothed me.

  532. I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to

  533. me. These are the sheep, and this is

  534. the evidence that he uses to show them that they're his

  535. sheep. He knows his sheep and his sheep

  536. know him, but as judge, he still measures particular things.

  537. This is how he knows you're his sheep.

  538. These are Christian virtues and Christian kindness.

  539. Christians caring for Christians, Christians loving

  540. their enemies. These are the things that the

  541. Lord measures. This is how He judges.

  542. Jesus is our advocate and this is how He makes a case against

  543. our accuser. He can say look at the fruit,

  544. look at the fruit, look at the fruit, look at the fruit.

  545. No, the fruit didn't save them, but the fruit proves something

  546. about them. Salvation is not earned by

  547. action, but salvation is revealed by action.

  548. It is not great works of power that prove your salvation.

  549. It is not miracles that prove your salvation.

  550. It is not the driving out of demons that prove your

  551. salvation. Why?

  552. Because many will say on that day, Lord, did we not prophecy

  553. in your name? Did we not do miracles in your

  554. name? Did we not cast out demons in

  555. your name? That's crazy.

  556. How many Christians? How many people?

  557. We should clarify that. How many people do you know who

  558. are doing miracles, who are prophesying and driving out

  559. demons? Well, Jesus said that many who

  560. do those things will stand before Him on that day and say,

  561. Lord, look what I did, and he'll say depart from me.

  562. I never knew you, you worker of iniquity.

  563. I don't have a good theological explanation for that.

  564. You just got to settle that one for yourself.

  565. But people who drove out demons, people who work miracles, and

  566. people who prophesied in His name are going to be separated

  567. and lost forever from them. I I just chalked that up to God

  568. and His kindness is still going to get His good gifts to people

  569. no matter what flawed vessel might be using them.

  570. But this should give you pause to inspect basic and simple

  571. fruits in people's lives before you trust them not not that you

  572. should condemn everyone. I'm not telling you to condemn,

  573. but I'm saying before you trust a minister, before you trust

  574. that favorite preacher, Is there fruit that is inspectable?

  575. And and apparently miracles, prophecy and demon casting out

  576. is not the inspectable fruit that matters most to Jesus.

  577. Which is wild because those sound pretty good to me.

  578. Like ma'am, this dude's working miracles in his ministry.

  579. He's got, you know, active prophetic ministry and they

  580. drive out demons. Like for real.

  581. It's legit. But is, but are you able to

  582. inspect the other fruits that the Lord cares about, like

  583. clothing people, like feeding people, like all the things that

  584. aren't spectacular, but all the things that everyone can do?

  585. I don't know if I can do this and this and this.

  586. Well, you can drive out demons, you can prophecy, and you can't

  587. work miracles according to your New Testament.

  588. And yet, even if you never did any of those things, apparently

  589. that wasn't the evidence that the Lord was like, hey, you

  590. prophesied. You didn't prophecy, you drove

  591. out demons. You didn't drive out demons.

  592. You to my right hand, you to my left hand.

  593. That's not what he pointed out. It was simple things that the

  594. the most simple among us. Who could say, I don't know if I

  595. could ever. First of all, you're wrong.

  596. And you should pray and seek to prophecy and pray and seek to

  597. drive out demons and do the work of the ministry and walk in

  598. Christian authority in the name of Jesus to drive out the works

  599. of darkness around you. And yet those aren't the things

  600. that the Lord is pointing out as evidences of salvation.

  601. Many will say, Lord I did all this for you, but He will say I

  602. never knew you. What he looks for are

  603. measurements of love and caring for those in need.

  604. Simple things that everyone can do Keep going.

  605. Verse 36 I was naked and you clothed me.

  606. I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to

  607. me. Simple obediences.

  608. This is likely, most theologians have thought throughout history,

  609. this is likely Christians caring for Christians.

  610. Why are Christians in prison? Well, because they broke the

  611. law. Well, why would Christians break

  612. the law? Because the law was wicked.

  613. That's the point. You're not allowed to do this.

  614. You're not allowed to do that. And Christians who are faithful

  615. are going to go, oh, I will do that.

  616. Think about Paul. He gets imprisoned for living

  617. righteously, for doing the right things.

  618. And you should go visit Paul. You should go care for Paul.

  619. You should go bring him an extra coat.

  620. Why? He's he's not in prison because

  621. he killed somebody. Well, he killed a lot of people,

  622. but he's not in prison for that, ironically enough.

  623. He's in prison for righteousness sake, so this is likely

  624. Christians caring for Christians, especially those who

  625. have suffered for righteousness sake.

  626. Sometimes you break an unrighteous law to obey Jesus.

  627. Christians should prioritize one another, and these are things

  628. that the Lord watches for. What he lists here is attainable

  629. for everyone, no matter how much money you have or what your

  630. status is or how experienced you are as a Christian.

  631. Basic obediences. That's the freedom that I keep

  632. wanting you to receive and enjoy.

  633. The Lord just wants you to walk out the faithfulness that's

  634. right in front of you. What does He put in your hand?

  635. What obedience has He given you to do?

  636. What has He called you to in this season even of life?

  637. What would faithfulness look like?

  638. What would wise stewardship look like?

  639. If the Lord were to return next week, what would you be?

  640. What would you want this week to look like?

  641. Where would you want to emphasize?

  642. Where would you want to say, man, my fruitfulness is right

  643. here, man, I need to be. I am going to double down on my

  644. gentleness to my wife. I'm going to double down on my

  645. respectful speech to my husband. I'm going to double down on my

  646. obedience to my parents. Like those are simple.

  647. They if you're a husband, you don't have to go far to figure

  648. out. I wonder what I should be doing.

  649. There's a lot of New Testament commands for you husbands.

  650. If you're a wife, you don't have to be like, what should a

  651. Christian wife do? Let me go ask the bloggers.

  652. No, don't do that. Go ask your New Testament.

  653. There's lots there, Christian wife, and you don't have to

  654. like, it's not complicated. You don't need a new book study

  655. like it. There's plenty to get started.

  656. Kids, it's not complicated. You know what to do.

  657. If you have a job, you know what to do, don't you?

  658. It's not that complicated. Work diligently and do

  659. everything you're doing as unto the Lord, not as unto this

  660. terrible client, not as unto your terrible boss.

  661. You're doing everything under the Lord.

  662. So when your boss goes on another vacation and another

  663. vacation and blames everything on you, you're going, it's OK.

  664. I wasn't doing it for my boss. I was doing it for the Lord.

  665. So the Lord is pleased and the Lord is keeping the books.

  666. Simple obediences flow out of love, and that reveals

  667. salvation. It doesn't earn salvation, but

  668. it proves salvation. Miracles are good.

  669. Driving out demons is good. We should pray for those and

  670. expect them, but they are not the determinations that He uses

  671. at the judgement. Verse 37, He's saying you did

  672. all these things. And then the righteous answer in

  673. verse 37, Lord, when do we see you hungry and feed you, or

  674. thirsty and give you drink? This is a pleasant exchange.

  675. He's saying you're blessed, you're getting the smile of

  676. Jesus in this moment. My father loves you enter into

  677. the eternal Kingdom that's always been prepared for you and

  678. because you did this and then and then they go, when did I do

  679. that? When when did this happen?

  680. When did I see you hungry and feed you or thirsty and give you

  681. a drink? When did I see you a stranger

  682. and welcome you? When were you naked and I

  683. clothed you When were you sick and or in prison and I visited

  684. you and the King will answer them truly.

  685. I say to you as you did it to the least of these, my brothers,

  686. you did it to me. Look at their surprise.

  687. They didn't even realize that they had done it.

  688. That's a big green flag. That's a good sign.

  689. Their ignorance about what? When they did these things that

  690. reveals their humility and their sincerity.

  691. Why? Because it was natural to them.

  692. It was just who they were and they did not think any of these

  693. things were exceptional. When they did these things, they

  694. didn't think I did a good thing. They just thought it's just

  695. called living. Why?

  696. Because that's what happens when you're an orange tree.

  697. You just make oranges. You don't think, how do I come

  698. up with an orange today? Orange trees just make oranges.

  699. That's just what they do. Oranges flow out of orange trees

  700. automatically. They don't have to work at it.

  701. The Lord has built it so that the orange tree just produces

  702. fruit and the Lord has built as Christians so that there is a

  703. new heart and new desire inside of them.

  704. That's why they had done these things.

  705. They lived their lives. And the Lord said, you did all

  706. this for me and I what, when did I do that for you?

  707. He's like, and he's going to rollback the tape and go see

  708. this. And they're like, but that that

  709. was just a Tuesday. And he's like, I know, I know.

  710. And it was me working in you to do it and you were faithful to

  711. do it. It proves that you had been

  712. saved. This fruit, this orange is

  713. evidence that you are an orange tree.

  714. Enter into the joy of your master.

  715. They're not like the Pharisees who do things to be seen.

  716. That was the issue with the Pharisees.

  717. Remember, doing good stuff is good everybody, but the issue is

  718. they were doing good things to be seen or doing good things to

  719. earn favor. Doing good is not a problem, but

  720. your motive is what matters. So when something is natural to

  721. you, you're not overthinking it. Humility and sincerity are what

  722. you're seeing here though. They're honestly confused

  723. because they were not keeping score along the way.

  724. The righteous Christian is not keeping score.

  725. The righteous Christian is saying, look at this, look at

  726. that, look at that. I'm stacking it up today.

  727. I am a super Christian. They're just going, God is good,

  728. God is good. Let me pass along the goodness

  729. and the blessing of the Lord. The righteous are not tracking

  730. their goodness. They're just good because

  731. they've been made new and it's who they are.

  732. If you're tracking your goodness, that's a red flag

  733. because you see goodness as an exception instead of your

  734. standard operating procedure. So do good things and you're

  735. not. And it's not that you have to be

  736. ignorant of them, but you're also don't let your right hand

  737. know what your left hand is doing.

  738. That means that you're not. You're just you're not trying to

  739. be seen. Now the tender hearted overthink

  740. that they're like, I can't go put my offering in because then

  741. everyone will see that I'm giving in to the Lord and then

  742. what do I do? All right, if it's really

  743. bothering you, you can give online, but don't worry about

  744. putting your money in the offering.

  745. It's going to be OK. The point is the motive, your

  746. blessing is not robbed. If you walk up here and put

  747. money in the offering plate, I assure you, unless of course

  748. you're doing it to be seen. Now, if you did a cartwheel on

  749. the way up here and you're like, hey, everybody, here's how much

  750. is on the check today, that would be different.

  751. Enjoy your reward from people because that's the only one

  752. you're getting. If you're tracking your

  753. goodness, that's a red flag because you see goodness as

  754. exceptional instead of your standard operating procedure.

  755. If you make an orange and you go look everybody instead of like,

  756. yeah, I'm an orange tree. It's just what orange trees do.

  757. Yeah, it's just Christian stuff. Just a Christian being a

  758. Christian. I love the Lord.

  759. I love people, man. I don't always get it right,

  760. that's for sure. And and I repent when I sin

  761. because I still produce bad fruit sometimes.

  762. But yeah, more and more there's just oranges and oranges and oh,

  763. that one's bad. Lord forgive me and people

  764. forgive me. Whoever needs to forgive me,

  765. please forgive me. Verse 40.

  766. The king will answer them. Truly.

  767. I say to you as you did it for the least of these, my brothers,

  768. you did it for me. He rewinds the tape for him.

  769. Whether it was food or money or visits or time or phone calls or

  770. love, he's been keeping the record.

  771. Proverbs 1917 says whoever gives to the poor lends to the Lord.

  772. So whoever gives to the poor, you gave to the poor freely.

  773. God says that you actually let him borrow from you, and that

  774. means he's going to pay you back.

  775. So you're thinking, I gave that away, I'll never see that again.

  776. That's not true. If you gave to the poor, the

  777. Lord says I owe you 1 now you know, like you don't owe me

  778. anything. He's like, no, I know I don't

  779. actually owe you anything, but I'm going to repay.

  780. I'm going to repay. Whoever gives to the poor lends

  781. to the Lord. So you give to the poor and you

  782. just, the Lord has just taken out a loan from you and he's

  783. like, I owe you, thank you for that, and I'm going to pay you

  784. back. That's how he sees this.

  785. So they thought they were giving to the poor, and the Lord says,

  786. you actually were lending to me. And now it is my pleasure and

  787. joy to pay you back for it. What they did in private is now

  788. rewarded and honored in public. Verse 41 Here's the tragic turn.

  789. Then he will say to those on his left, depart from me.

  790. You cursed into the eternal fire, prepared for the devil and

  791. his angels. For I was hungry, and you gave

  792. me no food. I was thirsty and you gave me no

  793. drink. I was a stranger and you did not

  794. welcome me naked, and you did not clothe me sick and in

  795. prison, and you did not visit me.

  796. The others were blessed and now these are cursed.

  797. Jesus is black and white over and over and over and over.

  798. There will be blessing and there will be cursing.

  799. Everyone had the opportunity to be blessed, but many of them had

  800. mental awareness of the King without devotion to the King.

  801. They had never allowed the King to actually change them.

  802. They believed in God. I've known lots of people who

  803. believe in God, and I've known lots of people who believe that

  804. the whole Bible is true, from Genesis all the way through to

  805. maps. And still that's not saving

  806. faith. It's just knowledge.

  807. Of course Jesus is God. I think anybody with half a

  808. brain in one eye should be able to come to that conclusion.

  809. And yet, not everybody comes to a saving faith.

  810. The path is narrow and few find it.

  811. The road to destruction, Jesus says, is wide, and many are on

  812. it. It certainly seems that the

  813. majority of people throughout history will experience eternal

  814. torment. Not oblivion, which would be

  815. relief for them, but eternal fire, eternal darkness, eternal

  816. terror. Hell was prepared, Jesus tells

  817. us here, for the devil and his angels.

  818. That's why God build hell, by the way.

  819. God built hell. The devil didn't invent hell.

  820. The devil's not sitting on a throne in hell with a pitchfork

  821. poking at people. Jesus built hell.

  822. Jesus is in charge of hell. The devil's not in charge of

  823. hell. It is where God sends sends his

  824. enemies for all eternity. And then the revelation tells us

  825. that hell is going to be thrown into the lake of fire.

  826. That doesn't sound good either. The devil is not in charge.

  827. Jesus is in charge of everything.

  828. People in hell are people who do not love God and did not want

  829. God. And now they get what they've

  830. always wanted, to be away from God.

  831. So he says get out of my sight, be separated from me forever.

  832. They join his enemies because that is exactly what they are.

  833. Verse 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food.

  834. I was thirsty, You gave me no drink.

  835. I was a stranger. You did not welcome me naked.

  836. You did not clothe me sick and imprisoned, and you did not

  837. visit me. This is what they did not do.

  838. They're judged by the same list as the sheep.

  839. They did not feed, they did not give drink, they did not

  840. welcome, they did not clothe, they did not visit.

  841. Their neglect is the evidence of who they actually are.

  842. And then verse 44, then they will also answer.

  843. Now they're panicked because they know what's coming for

  844. them. Lord, Lord, Lord, when did we

  845. see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in

  846. prison and did not minister to you?

  847. They're saying no, no, if you had been there, we'd have done

  848. right by you, which isn't true either.

  849. They're saying no, no, no, no. We saw all these other filthy

  850. people throughout life and all these people in need and people

  851. who needed our love and people who needed grace.

  852. We didn't give them anything. But if you had been there,

  853. certainly we would have cared for you.

  854. It's gone. You're revealing exactly who you

  855. are. Exactly my point.

  856. They've just proven their point. And that also will be used

  857. against them. The Lord always uses people's

  858. words against them. Oh, is that the way you see it?

  859. Yes, Lord, consider it done. They don't realize that they're

  860. just proving his point. No, Lord, we would have done it

  861. for you. Yeah.

  862. You're doing things to be seen because it's not really who you

  863. are. You can put on temporarily.

  864. You can muster out an orange from time to time, but the tree

  865. is rotten. The tree is dead, and the tree

  866. is bad. It's full of rotten fruit.

  867. It's the weird exception when you produce a good orange and

  868. you go, look, Lord, I can do some stuff sometimes, but it's

  869. not who you are. You haven't been saved.

  870. You haven't received new desires and a new identity.

  871. If it had been you, we would have done it.

  872. They cared about being seen and did not believe He was always

  873. actually watching. If they really cared about being

  874. seen, they would have obeyed all the time because the Lord was

  875. always watching. And we're closing verse 45.

  876. Then he will answer them saying, truly, I say to you, as you did

  877. not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.

  878. Neglecting others is neglecting the Lord.

  879. He is their shepherd and he watches them.

  880. How you treat them reveals who you are.

  881. Some of you are already thinking, man, I need to go out

  882. there and do better today. No, if that's what you've heard,

  883. you've missed the sermon. If that's what you've heard,

  884. you've missed the Lord. Man, I got to go out and I

  885. really need to go out and do better today.

  886. No, you don't. It will profit you nothing to go

  887. out and do better today to muster up some oranges.

  888. What matters is that you become a new tree.

  889. That's what you need. When you become a new tree,

  890. oranges will flow. Non Christians and false

  891. Christians always think that genuine Christians are mustering

  892. it up, and they're not. That's their secret.

  893. They're not doing it. They're so much better than me.

  894. They're not what the What you might be seeing, though, is

  895. someone who's saved, and you might not be.

  896. Christians struggle, Christians suffer, Christians walk through

  897. difficulties, and Christians sin.

  898. But when Christians sin, they have an advocate and they

  899. confess their sins and they hate their sins.

  900. And it feels to them like putting on filthy clothes on a

  901. clean body. Non Christians, when they send

  902. feels right. It's who I am outside of Christ.

  903. That's who I am outside of Christ.

  904. That's who you are. What's wrong with my clothes?

  905. They feel good to me. Yeah.

  906. Filthy clothes on a filthy body. It's it's it's a good pair.

  907. But the Lord wants to wash everybody and make everybody new

  908. so that at the judgement he can say all these oranges that

  909. proves you're an orange tree. Orange trees enter into the joy

  910. of the Lord. Orange trees enter it not

  911. because of the oranges. The oranges are just the

  912. inevitable outcome of being an orange tree in my orchard.

  913. Biblical knowledge is not the same thing as being saved by

  914. Jesus. Church attendance is not the

  915. same thing as being saved by Jesus.

  916. Many are going to hear and depart from me and they were

  917. sure that they were going to hear.

  918. Well done. Verse 46.

  919. There's two outcomes and these will go away into eternal

  920. punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

  921. Hallelujah, eternal life. That means life with God, not

  922. just living forever. Timeline that's included, but

  923. that is not the greatest advantage.

  924. The closer your heart gets to Jesus, the less you're going to

  925. be focused on the length of time and the more you're going to be

  926. focused on the person of Jesus, the person of the Father, the

  927. Son, and the Holy Spirit to be with them, to be present with

  928. them. The Christian would never be

  929. satisfied in a heaven without Jesus in it.

  930. Oh, it's beautiful, it's perfect, it's paradise, it's

  931. utopia. Where's Jesus?

  932. Oh, there's no Jesus here, There's just a utopia.

  933. Shoot me now. He was the reward, He was the

  934. point. This created place, this new

  935. heaven and new earth. You know who the Maker is,

  936. right? It's Jesus.

  937. There are two categories. Eternal punishment is terror and

  938. horror. There are many near death

  939. experiences and stories and the majority of the public ones

  940. create very, very rosy pictures. The majority they get shared

  941. publicly, have very, very positive stories to go along

  942. with them. I was going to light and there

  943. were angels. Why is that?

  944. What's because those are the popular ones to share, because a

  945. lot of the people who experienced torments and near

  946. death experience, oftentimes they don't go and write books

  947. about it. There's actually a Doctor Who

  948. wrote a book about he's, he's a heart doctor and he's had, I

  949. guess he's not very good because a lot of his patients died, but

  950. he's experienced hundreds of people who, who, who died on his

  951. table or came back and he saw plenty, he said where they were

  952. like, Oh my goodness, I was in heaven with the Lord and he

  953. found out these people are Christians.

  954. He said the majority, though, had terrifying, horrifying

  955. experiences. He said those actually affected

  956. me more and those were what led him to becoming a Christian.

  957. He said, we don't want to be led by people's near death

  958. experiences. We're led by the word of God and

  959. still the people who experienced those things.

  960. He wrote a book, I forget what it's called, I forget his name,

  961. but the people who experienced the near death experiences, who

  962. went to hell, it was unpleasant. It was horror and terror.

  963. They talked about the certainty of the permanence of it.

  964. And then God in his mercy allowed people on earth to

  965. resuscitate a body, and God allowed that spirit to return

  966. back to the body in his great grace and his great kindness.

  967. Being in hell for two minutes and being able to come back.

  968. And they would be screaming on the table, I'm in hell, save me,

  969. save me, I'm in hell. Pastor.

  970. That's a little bit heavy. Guys.

  971. Read the Bible. It's really heavy.

  972. It's your soul and it's forever. I don't know about that fire and

  973. brimstone stuff. OK, go read the Bible.

  974. Go read the Bible. Go read Jesus.

  975. And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the

  976. righteous into eternal life. Or let's move back to verse 30

  977. where Jesus is talking. Cast the worthless servant into

  978. outer darkness. In that place there will be

  979. weeping and gnashing of teeth. Heavy.

  980. Yeah. And I'm not supposed to remove

  981. that heaviness for us. The Lord didn't.

  982. But thank God, eternal life is real.

  983. Heaven is going to be better than you could ever imagine.

  984. We had, we had a couple moments. I did anyway.

  985. I don't know about Clark family member #5 who said it was not

  986. the best family vacation ever. I had, I had a few moments this

  987. week of just bliss. I don't know if you've ever

  988. done, you know, a vacation or a trip where you're just like, you

  989. just have a few moments like this moment.

  990. It's everything. This moment is just perfect.

  991. The beauty, the goodness that just the blessings of all you're

  992. like, this is just opulence. Can you think of 1?

  993. Can you think of a moment just a pleasure or a delight or a

  994. beauty that is a shadow of a shadow of a shadow of the

  995. greater glory that is to come? We're not going to be fat babies

  996. and diapers playing harps on clouds in heaven.

  997. It's not going to be anything stupid like that.

  998. It's going to be amazing and glorious.

  999. We're going to rule and reign with him.

1000. The scripture says we're going to judge the angels and there's

1001. going to be reward and there's going to be rulership.

1002. The one who ruled over the talents, well, gets put over 10

1003. cities, literal cities that are made new on Earth.

  1004. I don't know. I don't know, but I know there

1005. will be rank, there will be reward, there will be delight,

1006. there will be pleasure, there will be worship, there will be

1007. beauty, there will be goodness. There will be civilization, it

1008. will be Kingdom civilization, and it will be perfectly ruled

1009. by a king. Nobody voted him in, nobody can

1010. remove him. He's king forever, and of his

1011. Kingdom there will be no end. And the smoke of his enemies

1012. also will rise up forever. But his Saints and his sheep

1013. will be with him, enjoying him. So thank God, eternal life is

1014. real. Not just quantity, but quality,

1015. entering into the joy of our Master, entering into the

1016. pleasure of our master enjoying Jesus.

1017. I think we are too easily satisfied.

1018. I think our prayers are too easily satisfied.

1019. Lord, solve this temporary issue.

1020. OK, I will. There's promises for that.

1021. Yes, thank you, Lord, Congrats. Your 80 years was just enhanced.

1022. Lord, fix this thing and that thing and this thing.

1023. But often times, Mike, I'm so easily satisfied.

1024. It takes so little to satisfy me.

1025. Lord, I'm focused on these smaller things.

1026. Lord said, I want to expand your vision for a walk with me.

1027. I want to expand your vision for not just yourself, but for

1028. others. Who are you caring about?

1029. Who else are you praying for beyond your own needs to be met?

1030. Who else are you approaching the throne of grace with boldness to

1031. plead for that loved one, that they would come to Christ, that

1032. they would turn from their sin, that they would be delivered

1033. from strongholds, that they would be sanctified, that they

1034. would grow in maturity? That's a marker of the Christian

1035. life. That's a marker of your maturity

1036. or immaturity. Babies only care about

1037. themselves. I'm not insulting you, but I am

1038. educating you. Babies only care about

1039. themselves. And there's a time in my

1040. Christian walk where I only cared about myself.

1041. I was a baby. It's OK, Babies are babies.

1042. We love babies, but babies aren't supposed to be babies

1043. after 15 years. Babies after 15 years.

  1044. That's a problem. There's an issue and many

1045. Christians have been babies for decades and they go, I'm going

1046. to heaven, please grow up. We need you to my sons.

1047. I would say the same thing if they were still babies and they

1048. still couldn't do any son, please grow up.

1049. I need my 15 year old to be able to take out the trash.

1050. Please grow up. I need my 17 year old to be able

1051. to run to the grocery store. Please grow up.

1052. That's not my mess. I don't need to clean that.

1053. Please grow up. This is development, this is

1054. growth. This is what the Christian life

1055. is supposed to look like. Remember to grow.

1056. The Lord is growing us. The Lord is building us.

1057. Don't be so easily satisfied. Seek true and deep satisfaction

1058. in the Lord, because that is the greatest satisfaction you can

1059. possibly get. All right, my final closing

  1060. bill. Ephesians 2.

1061. And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you

1062. once walked, following the course of this world, following

1063. the Prince and power of the air, that spirit that is now at work

1064. in the sons of disobedience among whom we all once lived, in

1065. the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the

1066. body and the mind. We were by nature children of

1067. wrath, like the rest of mankind, but God being rich in mercy

1068. because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we

1069. were dead in our trespasses, he made us alive together with

1070. Christ. By grace you have been saved.

1071. And He raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the

1072. heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages He

1073. might show the immeasurable riches of His grace and kindness

1074. toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved

1075. through faith. This is not of your own doing.

1076. It is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one

1077. can boast. We are his workmanship, created

1078. in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand

1079. that we should walk in them. It lays it all out.

1080. You're saved, and now you're prepared for good works, but

1081. you're not saved by good works. But now, if good works aren't

1082. flowing out of you, what's going on?

1083. What in the world is going on? If you're seeing bad works

1084. flowing out of you, you are one of two things not saved.

1085. Good news, you still can be or #2 you're a believer who is

1086. backsliding. And that is also very dangerous.

1087. Both are correctable because right now we still enjoy the

1088. throne of grace. And it is not too late until

1089. Matthew 25 is fulfilled. And as of this moment, right

1090. now, it's not so today. That's why the Lord says today

1091. is the day of salvation. Today, right here, right now.

1092. Come to Jesus the Savior before he's Jesus the judge.

1093. Come to Jesus while he's still on the throne of grace.

1094. Turn from your fake religion. Turn from your love of yourself,

1095. Turn from your comfort, turn from your pride.

1096. Jesus is Lord, he's not just your helper.

1097. Repent and believe the gospel and receive new life.

1098. The same Jesus who warns us, the same Jesus who will judge us all

1099. is the same Jesus who died for you to save you from all that

1100. judgment. This passage is not a history

1101. lesson about just what happened that day.

1102. The words of Jesus demand a response today to determine your

1103. future. Be saved by Jesus and then you

1104. will obey Jesus. Heavenly Father, thank you for

1105. Jesus. Thank you for the cross.

1106. Thank you for the throne of grace.

1107. Would you just raise your hands, everyone in a posture of

1108. submission and humility? I want to lead you in a prayer,

1109. but saying these words will do nothing unless they're prayed

1110. out of a genuine heart. I myself and many other

1111. preachers have foolishly and accidentally, I believe, misled

1112. people into a false security because they thought that there

1113. was something magical about reciting a particular prayer.

1114. What matters is a humble heart, genuinely confessing sin and

1115. being saved by the Lord. That is business between you and

1116. the Lord that I cannot participate in.

1117. But I will lead the humble, the backsliding, the unsaved in this

1118. prayer. Heavenly Father, I know that I

  1119. need help. I know that I'm a Sinner.

1120. I know that I have fallen short of your standards.

  1121. I haven't been good enough. I'm a child deserving wrath.

1122. I've followed the Prince and the power of the air.

1123. I've obeyed my flesh and followed my own mind.

1124. I renounce all of that now. I need to be made new.

1125. I need to be rescued. I'm a rotten tree, and I need

1126. salvation. Give me a new heart, give me new

1127. desires, give me a new life, and then produce your good fruit in

1128. me. I can't make it on my own, but

1129. through the power of the Holy Spirit I receive this gift of

1130. grace to be a new creation, to be a devoted disciple, to be a

1131. faithful follower. To be a wise steward.

1132. I belong to you, you now own me. I give up my rights over myself

1133. and I am yours. What a joy, what a blessing to

1134. be saved to love you. I devote my life to you now and

1135. forever teach me to grow in Jesus name.

1136. Amen. Lord, I thank you for your

1137. people. I thank you for grace.

1138. I thank you for your justice. All of that makes you perfect

1139. and good. And now the Lord bless you and

1140. keep you. The Lord make his face Shinedown

1141. upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance

1142. upon you and give you great peace in Jesus name, Amen.
