Welcome to the City Place Church podcast.
-
My name is Josiah Williams, and here is my challenge for you.
-
As you're listening to the message, I challenge you to remove as many distractions as possible, to write out a few notes and things that stand out to you, and afterwards, share what you've learned on one of your social media outlets.
-
We level up by giving a level 10.
-
Thanks again, and enjoy the message Listen, hey, thank you all.
-
Um, last Sunday, thank you for, one, uh, just your heart.
-
I heard that there was some things that took place in the building as it relates to the heat.
-
Yeah.
-
Uh, because the AC was missing.
-
We, we've dealt with that, uh, this week and, and tried to go and find out what was going on.
-
So thank you for worshiping, uh, in spite of.
-
And, uh, now you all see this is the reason why we're in our Courageous project to believe the Lord for a property.
-
Amen.
-
And so thank you for that.
-
Uh, thank you for trusting.
-
Thank you, Ty, for preaching last week and, uh, delivering the Word of God.
-
I do wanna let you know that the reason why I was away was because, uh, Pastor Chris Rue was caring for his mom.
-
Uh, he lives in Delaware, but she lived in Florida, and she went to be with Jesus yesterday.
-
Amen.
-
And so, uh, he was very grateful, um, for our church and for just the love that, uh, we displayed to him.
-
Uh, this will be his third week away, and as a pastor, there is a...
-
You focus on your family, but there's a tension for what you also feel called to.
-
And so the fact that he could focus on his main priority, which was his family, uh, it meant a lot to him.
-
And so I just wanted to say thank you.
-
Uh, I know Tysha mentioned it last week, I just wanna say thank you for being a church, uh, that is kingdom-focused and, uh, not self-focused to where, you know, such and such isn't here, so you grab your stuff and you leave.
-
Uh, we've been in places like that where it's like, "Oh, Pastor such and such ain't here.
-
Let's go home this week."
-
And so that's not what God has called our church to be.
-
God's called our church to impact others, and so I just wanted to say thank you.
-
Um, and we were in a thought last week, and we've been continuing this thought, this is going to be different.
-
And well done, her message, she gave us some neo-pathways, and I was like, "Girl, you better go ahead with them big words."
-
That's when you know I'm gone.
-
That's when you know I'm not here, 'cause y'all get ain'ts and, and alms write down, "And the Lord will," and alms.
-
And like, you're filling in your own words, and so that was good to just pull us a little bit higher.
-
But, uh, for the men, I just wanna just say, uh, well done.
-
Um, this, this day is to speak life to you, and I feel like the Lord put something in me for you, but it's actually for everyone.
-
And so ladies, if you'll give me a little bit of space this morning, I'm gonna direct some things to the men, but it's for you as well.
-
And so if I'm referencing the men, don't tune out, because it's for all of us.
-
But I just felt this charge, uh, men, for you to be spoken life into today, the same way Ty spoke to the ladies on sisterhood Sunday.
-
But we as men grab hold of the Word of God for all of us.
-
Um, so just give me a little bit of space this morning.
-
Um, and then, and then I wanna address something publicly as well.
-
I am tired of when I'm not here, people telling y'all that they gonna fill in these blanks.
-
What have I done to anyone? To where my own wife Would say, "Listen, y'all," and she did it like this, she was like, "Look, let me just tell y'all."
-
Pastor's not here, and she don't talk like that.
-
But, but, but in the way I tell the story, you do.
-
I'm gonna fill these blanks in.
-
You don't have to worry about that.
-
That's exactly what she said.
-
And then when she got to blank number one, she was like, "Like I said, blank number one is gonna be filled in."
-
Genesis chapter 14, deal with her heart.
Genesis 14 chapter mention
-
All the men say, "Please."
-
No, I'm just playing.
-
My man.
-
That's why we got the man cave.
-
That's why we got the man cave.
-
I'm just playing.
-
Well done.
-
Listen, just so y'all know, I'm gonna be judged for all of that.
-
Okay, Genesis chapter 14.
Genesis 14 chapter mention
-
Genesis chapter 14.
Genesis 14 chapter mention
-
It says this, "Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits.
-
And when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of the men fell into them, and the rest fled to the hills.
-
The four kings seized the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food.
-
Then they went away.
-
They also carried off Abram's nephew Lot and his possessions since he was living in Sodom.
-
A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew.
-
Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshcol of Anar- of Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram.
-
When Abram heard," listen to this now, "When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out 318 trained men born in his household, and he went in pursuit as far as Dan.
-
And during the night, Abram divided his men to attack them, and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah."
-
Verse 16, "He recovered all," somebody say all.
-
All.
-
"He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the men and the other people."
-
Mm-hmm.
-
We've been in a series called This Is Going To Be Different, and I felt like the Lord wanted me to charge us all in this room under this thought, my fight is going to be different.
-
Oh, yeah.
-
Come on.
-
My fight- Fight is going to be different.
-
Yeah.
-
When we hear about Abram, who eventually his name is changed to Abraham, we hear about the faith of Abraham, but we don't hear about the fight of Abraham.
-
Okay.
-
We hear about the, the ups and downs of the one who was believing for a son, but we don't hear about the sword-wielding Abraham.
-
Yeah.
-
And as I was reading Genesis chapter 14, man, I wanted to let you know that in this season, and ladies, hear me because this applies to you, too, that your fight is going to be different.
Genesis 14 chapter mention
-
If I could take us to Genesis chapter 12 really quick.
Genesis 12 chapter mention
-
In Genesis chapter 12, God speaks to Abraham.
Genesis 12 chapter mention
-
He says, "Leave your father's house and go to the place that I will send you."
-
I am going to make your name great.
-
Nations will be blessed through you, and if anybody curses you, I am going to curse you."
-
It says that he gets up out of where he is living, and he grabs his cousin Lot.
-
And he says, "Lot, you and your family are coming with us."
-
It says as you read 12, 13, and 14, it says that the g- the possessions grew so great that Lot and Abraham looked at each other and says, "Hey, listen, every, every bit of who we are is growing.
-
So you pick a place, and I'll take what you don't."
-
And, and Lot chose Sodom and Gomorrah because it was good to his eyes.
-
And then Abraham went to the other side, and it says that they both settled, and that brings us to the chapter that I read.
-
Because there were some kings that were coming against the king of Sodom and Gomorrah, so much so that they went and took everything from that place.
-
And then the Bible says, "And they took Lot."
-
Now, I don't know about you, I may not worry about a lot of things, but if you mess with my family- Uh-oh.
-
Mm.
-
Mm something different happens when I hear you mention their name.
-
See, it, it, there was a trigger that caused Lot to say...
-
Lot coulda said this, "He's not my problem anymore."
-
But no, Lot was like, because the bloodline...
-
Wrestling reference.
-
The OTC.
-
Uh-oh.
-
All the wrestling fans.
-
Listen.
-
Appreciate you, Josiah.
-
There was only two of us who watch wrestling anymore.
-
Now listen, listen.
-
Because of the bloodline, Abraham said, "Oh, wait a second.
-
This is gonna be different."
-
Yeah.
-
"Because I am not gonna stand by and watch him and everyone attached to him lose what they are supposed to walk into."
-
This is gonna be different.
-
And as I was praying for us this Sunday, I felt like there was some takeaways that I wanted to highlight about the power and authority, men that God wants to have rest in you and ladies that God wants to have rest in you in this season.
-
Because if, if, if we're not careful, it looks like they just went and got and came back.
-
But it says that there was 318 men.
-
Watch now, write this first place down.
-
Write this down.
-
Here's-- Did y'all write the title down in the first blank? Yes.
-
I wanna make sure 'cause I don't want y'all to blame me My fight is gonna be different.
-
That's the title.
-
But look, look, look I want you to think about this.
-
I want you to think about this.
-
You and I have not been invited to consume- Yeah but to take territory for Christ- Yeah and repossess what the enemy thought he could take.
-
Mm-hmm.
-
Like, God has not called us to consume.
-
Abraham could've been like, "I've got my land."
-
Right.
-
"Bro should've protected himself better."
-
No.
-
He was like, "On this journey, if the enemy starts to rise, I move too, and I am gonna repossess that which belongs to me."
-
Now, sometimes we get frustrated when we don't pay the bills, and they come and get our stuff back.
-
Come on.
-
They say, "They took my car."
-
No.
-
No, no, no, no, no.
-
They took their car back.
-
Right? Until the balance is zero, it's theirs Like, so whenever we go back to the enemy and we let him know about the God that lives on the inside of us- All right we're not taking his stuff.
-
We're taking the stuff that belongs to the Father.
-
All right.
-
Amen.
-
So I'm not going to possess my stuff.
-
I'm repossessing what he tried to take.
-
Come on.
-
So the joy that the Lord gave you, that the enemy tried to take, when God gives it back to you, he just repossessed it.
-
Come on.
-
It never belonged to the enemy.
-
Yes.
-
There's nothing that the enemy has tried to take from you that he's ever owned.
-
He didn't pay a price for you.
-
Come on.
-
He didn't die for you.
-
I read it to us earlier, Isaiah 53.
-
Jesus paid it all.
-
All to Him I owe, right? Old school song.
-
So when God says, "I am giving it back to you," the enemy never controlled it.
-
Yeah.
-
He had no controlling interest.
-
It's just that we needed to show up, position ourselves so that this would be different So God didn't calls us to call us to consume.
-
Yeah.
-
We've gotta respond and take back what God said that we could get.
-
Yeah.
-
And so Abram, the Bible says, is believing for a son, yes.
-
He's left his father's house, but the minute there was a problem in the neighborhood, and it involved his family, he said, "They will not have to fight b- for themselves.
-
My fight's gonna be different."
-
Yeah.
-
What if we had that same approach for the body of Jesus Christ? Yeah.
-
What if instead of letting the person two sections over from you suffer, what if instead of him go, "Man, I hope they get through it," what if we both postured ourselves and says, "You know what? My fight's gonna be different in this season.
-
I won't be selfish, and I won't consume because it's about me.
-
Actually, I'm gonna stand in the gap for them"? Y'all trending all right? So let me give you a couple of takeaways.
-
Because men, God wants to raise you up in this house.
-
Yeah.
-
God wants to raise up men and women of the house who are kingdom-focused.
-
So here's a couple of takeaways, 'cause it says that there was 318 men, write this, write this down, that were born in the house.
-
Born in the house.
-
There was 318 men that were born in the house, and the lo- the Holy Spirit was letting me know that there's some of you that have began to walk in a new relationship in Jesus since you've been a part of this local church.
-
There are some of you that even today, you raised your hand and you said, "Jesus, I'm accepting you as my personal Lord and Savior."
-
You have walked into a new relationship with the Father that now declares that all of the authority that's been given to us through the Son, and by the power of God's Spirit, you can now begin to walk in.
-
Yeah.
-
Because you have been, as Jesus told Nicodemus, born again.
-
There's something different about you because of the encounter that you've had with Jesus Christ.
-
See, here's the thing, write this down, that it matters because some of the takeaways and some of the, the benefits of being born in the house is that we get to connect with Jesus Like they, they, they, they were born in the house, the Bible says, and since they were born in the house, they felt the conviction of what the house should walk in and the possession that belonged to the house It wasn't us and them, it was just us See, the results of coming alive in God's house is that you and I are connected to Jesus Christ.
-
John 15, "I am the vine, you are the branch.
-
Remain in me, you bear much fruit.
-
You can't do nothing without me."
-
The minute we connect to Jesus through salvation is the minute we connect to Him on a permanent basis Born in the house.
-
Says there was 318 men who were born in the house, which then means, number two, that they could recognize the father's voice See, write this down, write this down.
-
When we connect with Jesus, we connect and establish a personal spiritual relationship.
-
This is so simple.
-
You may have already heard some of this stuff in your own personal study.
-
But when we connect with Jesus, we connect and establish a personal spiritual relationship, which then bridges the gap so that I can begin to recognize the Father's voice.
-
Abraham comes back, his name is Abram at the time, and he goes, "Hey, man, uh, we've got a issue.
-
And, um, our family member Lot, the enemy is attacking."
-
And so what happens is, is look now, they don't wait.
-
He says, "I need 318, born in the house.
-
We're gonna go get our stuff back."
-
So we can connect with Jesus, we begin to recognize the Father's voice, and then watch this now, practically speaking, we encounter the person of the Holy Spirit.
-
We encounter the person of the Holy Spirit.
-
Acts 1:8 says, "And you shall receive power.
-
After that the Holy Spirit is come upon you and you'll be my witnesses where you are, and even to the ends of the world."
-
It's that word power that stirs me up because that lets me know that once God's power is released in me, then I can see supernatural things done through me Like once I realize that I've been born into the family, then I connect with the Son.
-
I recognize the Father's voice, and the power of His Spirit- Yeah begins to flow because I'm connecting to the person of the Holy Spirit.
-
I realize that my fight can be different.
-
Yeah.
-
Think about the fact that they grow up, and we get a chance to see in this chapter that Abraham wasn't just believing for himself.
-
He was also fathering the ones who were being developed.
-
Men in this house, can I just be open and honest? As your pastor, I don't need you to just sit As, as leaders in your own home, on your job, God won't need you to just sit.
-
He's gonna need us to grab somebody else and help them take one step in their relationship with Jesus 318 bow and men because the fight's gonna be different.
-
Y'all okay? Listen, if we're gonna recognize the Father's voice, we're gonna have to listen to God's voice in everything and everywhere.
-
I said that during our prayer series.
-
Like, we have to listen for God's voice in everything and everywhere we go Father, what are you saying? Father, where are you going? Father, what do you want from me? God, what are you trying to show me? I wanna listen to God's voice in everything that we do, which leads me to takeaway number two.
-
So it says that there were men who were born in the house, and then it says that there were 318 men, all the same men, who were born and they were trained in the house.
-
They were trained in the house.
-
All of us are called to be discipled- Yeah to be equipped, to be restored, to be armed, and to be mobilized for kingdom impact.
-
Like I said, God didn't call us to consume- Yeah on the journey.
-
He called us to engage so that we can repossess what the enemy's tried to take.
-
Here's the thing, and I'm learning this particularly as I get older and older, is that, uh, the enemy's not satisfied that there's a church- Yeah at Hidden Oaks.
-
Come on.
-
Because this was territory that he owned for a long period of time.
-
Come on.
-
So do you know what that means? Just because we showed up doesn't mean he's like, "Grab your g- gear."
-
No.
-
Because we're leaning in and locking in, he realized that he's in for a fight.
-
Yeah.
-
And as we prayed this morning, do you know what we were doing? Give us back- Come on.
-
That's right what you tried to take.
-
That's right.
-
Yes.
-
And sometimes it may take 12 rounds It may take spiritual warfare and praying in the Spirit and engaging in the Spirit one night, three nights, 21 days, one month, six months, one year.
-
Trust me, I don't wanna hear that either.
-
But if I'm pursuing Him not for results, then guess what? On day one and day three and day seven and one month and six months and one year, I will know Him more than I ever did in day one Abraham knew the Father.
-
And so when the enemy came, he wasn't fearful.
-
He was like, "We're going to repossess what belongs to us because this is different.
-
And since this is different, my fight's going to be-" So it says that there was trained men.
-
Colossians chapter two, verse six says this, "As you therefore have received Christ Jesus, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him."
-
Y'all see that? "As therefore," I'm gonna read it again.
-
"As you therefore have received Christ," verse one, born in the house, "so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, and established in faith as you have been taught."
-
Abounding with thanksgiving.
-
Look at, look, look at verse eight though.
-
Look at verse eight.
-
It says, "Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, not according to Christ."
-
Listen, you need to be in a small group.
-
You need to be around believers.
-
You need to take foundations class even if you've walked with the Lord for a while.
-
Why? Because the gospel can be watered down so much that it sounds like fresh revelation today Like trained growing up.
-
It says, "Just like you've heard and just like you've been taught, walk boldly, rooted and established Trained in the house Let, l-l-let's, let, let's look at some results of being trained in the house.
-
When we're trained in the house, when we're established in the house, men and sisters, look now, we become and we build a brotherhood and sisterhood.
-
We build a brotherhood and we build a sisterhood Like this week The, the way that this church converged on Layla converge on some of the other moms, someone pulled me aside and they were like, "Hey, we wanna do this for one of the guys in the man cave converge."
-
And I'm like, "Oh, Lord, you're building a brotherhood and a sisterhood in this church."
-
Like, I'm watching you grow, and I'm watching you love people just because you love them, not trying to get anything from them.
-
See, Abraham goes, "Hey, family, one of ours needs to get his family back.
-
We need to get our family back."
-
Like, if Jesus would leave, we read it, the 99 for one person, shouldn't we too? Like if Jesus would wait on you Shouldn't we too? If Jesus would hang on a cross for you, shouldn't we pray until you walk in your freedom too? Y'all are looking at me.
-
Is that a yes or no? Like, shouldn't we stand and fight for you as if it was me? It's the bloodline, right? It's the bloodline.
-
My fight has to be different.
-
My fight has to focus on you a little bit more so that you walk out who God's called you to be God never designed us to do life alone.
-
Write this down.
-
When we connect to the house We establish a spiritual family and a tribe We connect to the house, we establish a spiritual family and a tribe.
-
We, we can be born in the house, and some of us, we've been born into the family.
-
Some of you have been coming to Cityplace, and you've been attending.
-
And this, I'm not making this about Cityplace, but just to use God's house as an example.
-
You've been coming for a while, but you haven't made that next step to connect.
-
You can come in, but you aren't known yet.
-
You aren't loved yet, and you haven't been challenged yet.
-
For some of us, it might be taking that next step just to simply say, "Hello, my name is..."
-
You might have to go, sisters, you might have to go to Glam Night just so that you can grow in relationship.
-
Men, you might have to go to the men's barbecue and throw down.
-
Why? So that I can begin to grow in brotherhood, because my fights needs to be different Y'all, I real, I realize that when we're trained in the house, we build brotherhood and sisterhood, but we also grow in the knowledge of God.
-
We also grow in the knowledge of God.
-
Write that down Acts chapter 2:42, it says that after Peter had preached to them, thousands and thousands were baptized, and it says, "And they continued steadfast in the teachings from the apostles."
-
And they were growing together in community, but it's the focus around the Word of God that sealed the community.
-
It was a f- the hunger and thirst, and then because they were hungry for the Word of God and stayed in brotherhood and sisterhood, it says that they were blown away by the awesome wonders that God was doing amongst them.
-
They made sure that each and every person didn't have any lack.
-
And that was all because the Word of God was being birthed on the inside.
-
Number three.
-
Number three.
-
Number three.
-
Number three.
-
How am I doing so far on these blanks? Everybody, everybody getting them? We doing all right? S- experiencing growth today? Yeah, yeah.
-
I hear someone say, "For right now."
-
Write this down.
-
Write this down.
-
It says that they were, it says that they were born in the house, they were trained in the house, but watch, they were also planted in the house.
-
They were rooted That you placed us in Abe's family and Lot is family and I'm planted in the, in the house.
-
Psalms 92 is one of my favorite verses.
-
It says that those chapters, it says, "Those who are planted in the house of the Lord will flourish in the courts of our God."
-
Potted is different than being planted.
-
Man, my wife, my wife, she's, uh, doing some garden stuff, and she's got some things that start off in a pot, but eventually it moves from the pot to being planted so that the roots can go deep.
-
I can begin to be nurtured while I'm still a little uncertain about my journey, but the minute I become closer and closer to Jesus Christ and I'm being discipled, I have to have my roots planted where God can cause me to grow.
-
And the Bible says that they were trained in the house, but they were also planted in the house.
-
Write this down.
-
When we're planted in the house, we become rooted in God's family and His house.
-
We become rooted in God's family, in God's house.
-
Psalms 5:7 says, "But as for me, I will come into Your house in a multitude of Your mercy.
-
In fear of You I will worship towards Your holy temple."
-
Psalms 23:6 says, "Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
-
Psalms 27:4 says, "One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life."
-
Men, I'm speaking to us today.
-
We wanna be m- make sure that as God is growing us and birthing us in His house, that we remain trained and developed in God's house, but we're also planted in God's house, which leads me to the last takeaway, and that's this.
-
The Bible says that He goes to the men, 318, that had been born, trained, planted in the house, and He says...
-
And He called them up.
-
Says that He called them up and He says, "Now it's time to fight."
-
Men, I wanna challenge you, ladies, I wanna challenge you that God is calling us to fight different.
-
God is calling us to be spiritual in our warfare.
-
God's calling us to be spiritual in our worship.
-
God's calling us to go after Him in the Word like never before.
-
He's calling us up, watch now, to protect and possess.
-
He's calling us up to be focused on, "Nope, the enemy won't even have a sniff towards grabbing hold of my stuff that God's given me."
-
calling us up to protect To possess Because my fight's gonna be different.
-
How many of y'all would be like me and you would be honest and you would say there are times when you spend too much time fighting it in the flesh on your own? Anybody ever get tired of just trying to fight it on your own? What if our fight's different? What if we committed as a church that we'd fight together for the person beside us? Why? Because it's the bloodline.
-
Y'all, I love 2 Corinthians chapter 10.
2 Corinthians 10 chapter mention
-
It says, "For though we walk in the flesh, we don't war according to the flesh.
-
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but they're mighty in God for the pulling down of strongholds."
-
Born in the family, trained in the family, planted, called up to protect and possess.
-
The Bible says Abraham says, "Men, we're going."
-
And it says that by the time they attacked, they grabbed hold of everything that they were owed but was already theirs I wanna challenge us to let our fight be different this week.
-
One of my favorite verses is this right here, Acts 4:13 The apostles had been preaching the gospel like crazy, and there was this rumble about them because no matter what they endured, they just kept fighting.
-
And it says this, "Then the members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the scriptures.
-
They also recognized them as men," watch now, "who had been with Jesus."
-
Remember I told you that if we're born in the house, we c- get to connect with Jesus.
-
Let it be said, men, about you and I, let it be said, ladies, about you, that you may not have all the skill in the world, but because you're turning the world upside down, let it be said about you that you've been with Jesus.
-
Can I pray? Father, in Jesus' name, we thank you this morning that our fight's gonna be different.
-
We thank you this morning, Lord Jesus, that in this season where the enemy's trying to take some things, God, that we're not gonna be comfortable and consumed, but God, we're gonna repossess.
-
We're gonna take territory that you've called us to take.
-
God, I pray for every man in this house.
-
God, I pray that we'll walk differently.
-
God, you've created us to lead.
-
You created us to declare your Word.
-
God, you declared, God, that as we stand before you, that you've given us boldness.
-
You've given us a confidence.
-
I pray f- that the confidence of these men would rise.
-
God, I pray for every lady.
-
God, I pray for the strength and the leadership that you've called them to.
-
God, I pray that they will not be fearful and that they will not back down, God, but they will rise as called-up ones in this season.
-
I pray for our church, God, that our church would be a place that raises up healthy men and healthy ladies who will fight the good fight of faith like Paul talked about, because this is different.
-
In Jesus' name we pray.
-
Can you say amen? Thanks so much for tuning in.
-
We hope that you've been encouraged by today's episode, and we have one final challenge for you.
-
Take something that you've learned today or something that stuck out to you and share it with a friend or a loved one.
-
Spread a little of what I like to call that wisdom wealth with someone else.
-
Wherever you are, I hope that you have an incredible rest of your day.
