Let the Redeemed of the Lord Say So

I sang plenty of songs, so I gave you every opportunity to raise your hands and worship God.

Aren't you glad for the opportunity tonight? Aren't you glad that we live in

America, we can come into the house of God, and we can raise our hands,

and we don't have to worry about the Gestapo,

or we don't have to worry about anybody coming in and trying to tell us that

we can't worship God. I'm glad for our freedoms tonight.

Praise the Lord. I said, I'm glad for our freedoms tonight.

Amen. I'm glad for the liberty to worship him. And I'm glad that I can.

I'm glad that there's something in my heart that wants me to worship him tonight.

Amen. I said, I'm glad there's something in my heart that wants to worship him

tonight. Praise the Lord.

I had dropped this little thought when I was looking here tonight.

Psalms 107, beginning at verse one.

Oh, give thanks unto the Lord for he is good for his mercy endureth forever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.

And my little thought tonight is, let the redeemed of the Lord say so.

Amen. Let's pray one more time. Jesus, hallelujah.

Hallelujah. We're thankful for the liberty that's here tonight.

We're thankful, Jesus, because you're here with us tonight. I feel like I'm

in church tonight, Lord, and I'm glad about it.

Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.

Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus. Praise your holy name. Help us with your word tonight, O God.

We ask you to be with us tonight.

Amen. Amen. You may be seated. Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.

For his mercy endureth forever. You know, if whatever state we find ourselves

in, we should give thanks unto the Lord for no other reason than he's just good.

He's just good, that's all. He's been good to us, hasn't he?

Amen. And then it goes on to say, let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Amen.

And then it goes on to describe those whom the Lord has redeemed.

And I like the verse two in the Bible in basic English.

It says, let those whose cause the Lord has taken up say so.

If God has ever taken up our cause and ever helped us out, we ought to say something about it.

Amen. We ought to say, thank you, Jesus. We ought to say, thank God for taking

up my cause and helping me along the way. Amen.

We don't ever want to get to a place where we're not thankful.

Amen. The opposite of being thankful is not good, but I always want to have

a thankful heart. Don't you?

I always wanted to say, you know, and we need to be thankful for the good things.

We need to concentrate on the good things.

Sometimes we can concentrate on the bad things, but we know one thing,

God is good and he'll always be good. Praise the Lord. Amen.

He's taken up our cause. What kind of testimony do we have? He's taken up my cause.

And he says, those whose cause the Lord has taken up, say so.

His people whom he has taken out of the hands of their haters.

That's kind of modern English, isn't it?

The haters you know you know

sometimes we have haters like i felt impressed tonight to talk about brother

i don't know why i just feel that way it could be true could be not true but

the lord wants to work for brother foster maybe and give give him where he don't

have to be out of town but sometimes there might be a hater involved you know

what i mean there might be somebody,

Sometimes they're just haters be haters. That's all.

They just be haters. That's all. For whatever reason, they might not like you.

They, for whatever reason, and

let me say the world's full of them and you don't have to ask for them.

And sometimes you don't have any reason that you know of to have a hater, but sometimes we do.

Sometimes if you're blessed, somebody will hate you.

They won't like it. If you got something better than them, I'll never forget.

I've told you this before i know i have when i got that new truck one time 1996

let's see no it was a 19 yeah 19 no it was a tooth that no what year was it

anyway it don't matter does it.

It was brand new and the company bought it and i drove it down i think it was a 2004 tahoe,

brand new took it down to the atterbury job

core had a load of welding rods and stuff in the

back and I backed up to the overhead door and

the custom was the students and these

are this is job corps people okay this this

is people that go to job corps like remember George Foreman George Foreman was

in the job corps because he kept beating people up getting in trouble these

are people that get in trouble so they put them in the job corps they try to

give them a job so I go in there and the custom was they these people these

men would unload your truck for you because You take, you know,

20 boxes of rod or whatever, and they would all grab it.

So, and I, well, I opened the door and I went in there to talk to the instructor

and I walked back out and I shut the door on the truck and I just kind of looked at the side of it.

And somewhere along the line, a hater came along.

Somewhere along the line, somebody got their key out or something,

and they just went right down the back side of the quarter panel.

And then I got to looking, and it was on the other side.

Somebody just a hater. But you know what? I'm glad God can deliver us out of the hands of our haters.

Amen. Those that hate us. Praise the Lord. Those taken out of the hands of their

haters. You know, we ought to say so.

We ought to let people know God's been good to us, and we ought to say something

about it. Praise the Lord.

Sometimes we talk about witnessing for God, but we ought to live for God because he's just so good to us.

Not just talk about him, but we ought to really make an effort to live for him

because he's been so good to us.

We need to witness for him, not just in what we say, but how we live. Praise the Lord.

We ought to let the world know I'm living for God because he's been good to

me. I'm living for him. I'm not just talking about him.

Everywhere I want my life to be saying so. God's redeemed me. God's been good to me.

God's helped me. And everywhere I go, I want to be a reflection of that. Amen.

Can I get a witness tonight? Anybody else feel that way?

You know, living for God's not just talking. And we should talk.

We should invite people to church. But we We need to say so,

not necessarily with our lips.

We got too many people in the world, their lips are talking Jesus,

but their life is not backing it up.

Their lips are talking Jesus, but their life's not backing it up.

Oh, I was trying to think who I was.

I was talking to Chad yesterday, and we was talking about Jelly Roll.

You guys see anybody? You young people know who Jelly Roll is, don't you?

And Jelly Roll is not necessarily any different than a lot of other music celebrities

or Hollywood celebrities. They talk about Jesus, but if you watch what they're

doing, they're not letting the redeemed of the Lord say so.

They're not saying so. They might be talking about Jesus, but their life's not

saying so. I want my life to say so.

Amen. I want to know I'm redeemed. Praise the Lord.

I want to live in a manner that says so because he's been good to me.

I said, has he been good to you tonight?

Praise the Lord. He took us out of the hands of our haters.

He delivered us from our haters. He brought us together out of all the lands

from the east and the west and from the north and from the south.

I tell Ruthie, stick with me. We're going places.

We got we met she is from fountain square i'm

from brightwood god put us together in string

town and now we are in mars hill hallelujah

and i i said stick

with me we're going places praise the lord but you know god brings people he's

you were from maybe kentucky maybe from indianapolis maybe from another place

but i want to tell you god brings people god can deliver people from their haters

and bring them out of the bad things, no matter where they come from,

amen, no matter where you were, no matter what your physical locality or no

matter what your spiritual locality.

Maybe you were a long way spiritually away from Him, but He can bring you out from the east.

He can bring you back from the south. He can bring you back from the north. It doesn't matter.

And they were wandering in the waste places.

Can anybody relate to that tonight besides me? I was wandering in the waste places.

$5 Quaaludes, 1980s. I was talking to somebody about that today.

And I hadn't thought about that, but it was the truth. We'd spend $5 and buy

$15 and buy three Quaaludes.

And just spend your money.

I don't guess you all never did that. You was all perfect. You all never spent

no money on alcohol, never blew no money on cigarettes, never blew no money

on marijuana. You ain't never done none of that.

God didn't bring you from any waste place, but he did me, praise the Lord.

And let the redeemed of the Lord say so. He's been good to me.

He brought me from the waste places and I want to let the world know,

amen, I'm living for him. Hallelujah.

Woo, praise the Lord. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Praise God.

We ought to say so when we come to church. We ought not have to be primed and pumped to worship God.

We ought to come into the house of God as soon as that first note goes on the piano.

Our hands ought to go up. Hallelujah.

Amen. First note on the bass. First note on the guitar.

There ought to be something in our heart that says, he's been good to me.

And I want to say so. Hallelujah.

I want to praise him. I want to glorify him.

I want to do it because I want to, because he's been good to me.

He brought me from the south, the waste places.

He's delivered me from my haters.

And we were wandering around in the waste places, and there was no resting place.

And our souls became feeble for need of food and drink.

You know, you can be out in the world and still be hungry.

You can come out of a restaurant and still be hungry, still be thirsty in your soul.

Anybody else, was you ever thirsty in your soul?

Was you ever hungry in your soul, praise the Lord? And you would wander around

in the waste places and didn't have a rest, didn't have a resting place,

couldn't sleep, couldn't get along.

Our souls were feeble because we were hungry and because we were thirsty in

our soul, maybe even in our bodies. Praise the Lord.

But then they sent up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow,

and he gave them salvation out of all their troubles.

Hallelujah. I'm saying let the redeemed of the Lord say so.

We've got a reason to say so, and we ought to say so. Praise the Lord.

We ought to give him praise, and we ought to give him all the glory that's due

unto his name. Praise the Lord.

And you know what? He guides us now, guiding them in the right way.

You know, I'm glad we can be led

by him. Listen to me. You can be led by him. You can be led by him now.

I said, you can be led by him. And what we do, we want to do our thing.

We want to do our own thing. And we want to follow what we want and what we

feel. But sometimes we need to just be led by him.

I had a crazy boss one time. I was working at these apartment complexes, building the decks.

They hired four of us to replace these decks, and it was a good job.

Every day, they had so many apartments. We'd go to apartment underneath,

tear out the ceiling, then cut the deck off above, and then go out there,

put new joists in, and there was four of us.

And then they got a new boss, and then we started getting the decks done,

and they started letting one guy go, and then they let another guy go.

So, but in the meantime, this boss, he was kind of a maniac.

He would walk around with his little recorder, you know, and you'd be working.

All of a sudden, you see him peeping around the bushes, you know.

You know, he's watching to see if you're working, praying, and you think, man, this is, you know.

And so I got to a place where I thought this, you know, this is crazy.

And I thought, I'm just going to quit.

I'm just going to quit. I'm just going to do what I think I want to do.

You know, you can't always do what you think you want to do.

It's best to be led by the Lord.

That's one of the blessings of those that have been redeemed.

We wandered around. See, we wandered around in waste places.

We wandered around doing our thing. But he brought us out.

He delivered us from our haters, brought us where we need to be.

Now we are in a position as the redeemed to be led by him. I said, that's a blessing.

That's a blessing to be led by him. I don't know about you, but I feel good

in church tonight. Praise the Lord.

I said, I feel good tonight in my soul. Praise the Lord. and I'm glad I got redeemed one day.

I'm glad he brought me out of the miry clay and set my feet on a rock to stay.

Amen. I said, I'm glad about it. Praise the Lord. I don't want to just talk

about it. I want to live it. Praise God.

I want it to consume my being. I want to live life as though of somebody that's

being redeemed. Praise the Lord.

I want people to know I've been redeemed. I want people to understand it and

see the difference, praise the Lord.

When I got saved, it was the talk of the praxer.

Cause well, it was Lindy back then and we would, it's Sutton Garton.

We would load our, what was it? I get too many stories going here.

We, we would send a truck load over to Lindy and get in unload and load.

And then we would bring a truck back.

And, and the guys from settling products knew the guys at Lindy and,

and we would go over there and, and, and, but after I got in church,

they told me, they said, they was talking about you today, Jim, in the break room.

And it was all talking about the wild man that's not wild man anymore.

Because see, you don't realize that I was wild man. I was the wild man for the

devil. When I was out in the waste places, I was out there.

Speaking of quaaludes, I didn't take one, I'd take three or four,

you know, and then get out and run around and carry on and just get buck wild,

stay up all night and do all that stuff. And I was a wild man.

And I had that reputation as a wild man, you know.

But when I got saved, I quit being a wild man.

I said I quit being a wild man. And I told somebody yesterday,

I think it was, I said, you know what?

I didn't have any, when I got saved, I didn't have no trouble giving up stuff.

I didn't have no trouble quitting smoking because when I got in church,

I knew saints didn't smoke.

So I figured if I got in church, I wasn't supposed to smoke. So I just quit smoking.

I just did it because, you know, I just knew that's the way it's supposed to be.

So that's what I did, you know, so it didn't bother me, but you know,

and, and they, and so I quit that my buddies would all come on.

We'd all, we'd all go to Rusty Gardens and smoke some doobies and shoot.

And what's that called? Putt, putt miniature golf. And we'd all go smoke doobies and go to Rusty Garden.

So I got in church and they come over, come on, Jim, let's go.

We're going to Rusty. Now looking back, I should have been more sociable, bro.

I said, that's all right. I'm not going because I didn't want to go smoke doobies no more.

For you perfect people, a doobie is a marijuana cigarette. I just let you know.

For those of you that don't know what a doobie is, let me tell you.

But I didn't want to smoke marijuana no more. But I knew myself if I went with

them, I'd be smoking it. And I knew that I didn't want to smoke it no more.

And so I was a wild man.

And they would say, they're talking about. So you see, that's the way it is. We are now in a position.

He brought us out, folks. We've been redeemed. Praise the Lord.

We've been redeemed. God's been good to us. He's been good to anybody here tonight.

I said, has he been good to anybody tonight?

He brought us out of the miry clay, set our feet on a rock to stay.

And now we are in a position to be led by him.

And I had a crazy boss, and I thought, I'm just going to quit.

I took a day off, and I had done some little framing.

I knew how to do a little framing, carpenter work, and I knew a little bit.

So I thought, I'm going to find another job.

So I took a day off, and I thought, you know, it'd be good to swing by the church and pray about that.

Pray about this situation. Let me tell you, whatever situation you got,

it'd be good to pray about it.

Amen. Brother Matthews was big on that, and I think we ought to be big on that.

Praise the Lord. Lord, you don't just run off and do something.

You better pray about it first. Come on, somebody.

So I went to church that day. I can remember it was early morning,

not early, early, because I mean, like 10, 1030, something like that, if I remember right.

And I'm in there and I'm praying, Lord, you know, I'm going to go look for another job.

But God, you know, I really wanted to be led, but I want to,

you know, do the right thing. And I'm praying.

And something said, just hang on.

You know, if the Lord says, just hang on a little bit, it's good just to hang

on a little bit. The blessings of being led by him.

Okay. Now, this is just my little testimony. I'm just, I'm just,

this is just the redeemed.

You see, I can give my testimony, but you can give your testimony.

I might have a testimony and I've got one. God brought me out.

I've been redeemed and I want, and I don't mind talking about it.

I don't mind, I don't mind saying that God is good and I don't mind living it.

And I want to live it. Now, I tell you what, I'm just in this thing because

I want to be, and I'm in this thing to live for God, and I want that world to

know that I am, and I'm not perfect.

I'm not saying I'm somebody, but I'm trying to be saved.

I'm doing it because I feel like I want to, and I want to do something for God,

and I want to live for God, and I'm trying the best I can.

Praise the Lord. Anybody else feel that way tonight?

I know I'm not perfect. I'm not claiming to be perfect, but I am sincere.

Are you sincere tonight? Praise the Lord. Are you really trying?

That's a wonderful thing if you really are.

So I said, okay, I better just hang on.

So I went back to work and Boston was still crazy.

And, but it wasn't just a matter. Like I told you, it started with four,

it went down to three, went down to two.

There was an old man, old Ed, his name was Ed and me.

And about two weeks, three weeks later, they called me in the office and they

said, we're going to let you go.

We're running out of work and we're going to let you go.

Now, see, I could have been depressed about that, but I felt like I was being led by God.

See, I waited. I waited, and I was letting it unfold.

Let me say, it's always good to let the rose unfold because you can't, you know.

Now, I talked. There's an evangelist. You'd know who he was if I told you.

And we was talking one time. It's been years ago. and we were talking one time

and he was talking about what he was going to do and doing this and I said well

you know and in the conversation I said they always taught me to let the rose unfold.

Just kind of let things happen a little bit and he kind of looked at me like

that was a foreign concept you know some people are always worrying about their

career always thinking about what can they do to get ahead how can I do it how

about just letting the rose unfold because you can't make a rose unfold.

No matter how you try, if you get a hold, I looked at my rose bushes the other

day and I told Sister Young, they're getting ready to explode. They got buds.

Both of them's got buds all over and there won't be long to be beautiful roses on there.

But if I go out there and try to open that bud up and try to bring that rose

out before it's time, I'm going to destroy it.

But if I wait, just step back and let God do his thing, hallelujah,

and let that rose do like a rose does and let that thing unfold, then I got the beauty.

I got the beauty there. So you can't go wrong letting the rose unfold.

And I'll never forget one time at our old house and it was hard times.

Life was hard. And I walked out and Sister Young knows very well.

We had a rose bush there on one corner of the little porch there.

And I walked out there one day and a rose was out there and it hit me.

There ain't one thing I can do to make that rose grow.

I can't make that rose grow. I can't make it. I can't do anything about it.

That belongs to God. And let me say, some things belong to God.

And sometimes timing belongs to God.

You just let God work in his time.

The Bible said he makes death beautiful in his time.

So we are in a position to be led by God.

And two weeks later or whatever, they said, we're going to let you go.

And I didn't feel bad about it. And I worked with Brother Don Brown from the west side.

He worked and he was doing a job and he wanted some studs done up in the attic

or something. I forget what it was exactly.

So I worked with him for about a week and a half.

And in the meantime, I had went back to my old employer at Acetylene Products

and told him that I was looking for a job.

And it wasn't just a week, week and a half. I got a phone call.

Sutton Garton Company needing a driver.

Okay. So I go in there and I knew, I can tell you this. I felt this. I could tell you.

It's different now. They've changed the building, but there was a ramp.

And when I was going up that ramp, I knew that I had waited on God.

I knew that the call had gone.

You know, I knew that I had prayed about it, and I knew that the rose was unfolding,

and I knew I was going to get that job.

I felt that way anyway. And I tell this all the time. Remember,

let the redeemed of the Lord say so.

We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

It's good every now and then to rehearse what God has done for you.

It's good to let somebody know what God has done for you every once in a while.

Or just sit in a chair and rehearse it to yourself.

You know, maybe instead of being down in the dumps, you need to rehearse and

think about what God's done for you.

Think about how good he's been to you. Praise the Lord. So anyway,

they said, okay, we'll hire you.

We'll hire you part-time to see how it works. And so the next day I went in.

Just raise your hands right now. I feel the Holy Ghost in here.

There's all kind of liberty. I wish I knew what to do with it. Praise the Lord.

Somebody needs to raise your hands and get the Holy Ghost tonight.

Somebody says, hey, I want to be one of those redeemed. Let the redeemed of

the Lord say so. I want to be one of the redeemed. Hallelujah.

Because the Bible says when the redeemed are gathering in. Hallelujah.

Wash like snow and free from all sin. Praise God. When the redeemed,

the song says, when the redeemed are gathering in. Hallelujah.

I want to be in that number, don't you? when the redeemed are gathering in.

I want to be in that number, and everybody in here has the ability to be in that number tonight.

Come on, come on. Let's worship God right now. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.

Hallelujah. Come on, somebody. Say, hey, hey, hey, come on.

Let God get you out of the hands of your haters. Let God bring you from wandering around in a waste place.

Amen. Doesn't matter where you are, north, south, east, west, how far away you are.

Praise the Lord. Bring, come on in and get yourself in a position to be led by him. Hallelujah.

Let the world know what he's done for you. Praise God. Let the world know what

he can do for you. Hallelujah.

First day I worked till about three o'clock or three 30.

Every day for 35 years, I was full time.

35 years, same place. Check never missed a bounce. Check never bounced.

We used to tease about Mr. Garton's checks. You don't have to worry about his.

They ain't going to bounce. Unless I told you his sweep account got mixed up. Praise the Lord.

And God was good to me. God gave me a job that the guys working younger than

me all had college educations.

I didn't have no college education.

But I had the same job they had.

Come on, somebody. I said I had the same job they had. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.

And guess what? When they bought them a new vehicle, next time it come around, I got a new vehicle.

Come on, I'm not bragging. And I'm just letting the redeemed of the Lord say so here tonight.

Now, listen to me. I worked on the truck for a year and a half,

went inside, worked inside sales for a year and a half.

Then I got a chance to go out on outside sales.

So about 33 of 32, 30-something years of that was in outside sales.

When I first went into outside sales, they gave me a little minivan that had

like 100,000 miles on it and gave me a little list of customers.

Just within a few months later, he wrote a check, and I got a brand-new 1992

Dodge Caravan. He paid for it. He never even saw it.

Four years later, I got a 1996 Tahoe that he never even saw until they came

down and brought the papers.

Four years later, I got a 2001 Suburban that he never even saw until they come

down and sign the papers. Are you with me?

I'm saying let God lead you. Let God do it, and God will unfold it. Hallelujah.

God will guide you. He takes care of the redeemed. Amen. He brought us out.

He leads us. He guides us. Hallelujah.

2004, I got a 2001 Suburban. 2004, I got a 2004 Envoy. 2008, I'm losing track.

Brother Means said, who buys the gas for those? I said, they do.

Brother Means said, who pays for the oil change? I said, they do.

Who does the maintenance? They do. Brother Means, if you ever knew Brother Means,

he looked at me, he said, brother.

He said, brother, you ain't got a job. You got a position.

I'm going to tell you, God will take you from a job and give you a position. Come on, somebody.

I'm talking about let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Praise the Lord.

Live your life and let the world know he's redeemed you. Amen.

Be led by him. Hallelujah.

Praise the Lord. He'll lead you. That's the blessing of being redeemed.

He guides them in the right way so they might come into the town of their resting place.

You see, you've got a resting place in God, And we all need to seek that resting place in God.

And that resting place is being led by him and let him bring you to the place where you belong.

Your resting place. The place where you feel good. The place where you're not

all tormented. Come on, somebody.

He brought a man to the resting place. So let men give praise to the Lord for

his mercy and for the wonders which he does for the children of men.

I think we ought to raise our hands and do that right now.

Lord, we love you tonight. Hallelujah. Woo!

You have been good to us, Lord. Hallelujah. He gives this desire to the unrested

soul so that it is full of good things.

Listen, those who were in the dark, in the black of night, in chains of sorrow and iron.

And it goes on to let us know why men end up their way and why they end up like

they do. But when we cry out to God.

Psalms 107, 14, he took them out of the dark and the black night,

and all their chains were broken.

Anybody got any broken chains in your life tonight?

Has he delivered anybody tonight?

Has he done anything good for you tonight? Has he lifted you up? Has he blessed you?

Has he done anything good for you? If so, you ought to say so.

Hallelujah. You ought to praise him.

Somebody clap your hands. If your hands are working, give him a little bit of praise. Hallelujah.

Somebody say hallelujah.

Somebody say glory to God. Somebody lift him up. Praise the Lord.

Woo! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.

I love you, Jesus. Anybody say I love you, Jesus. I worship you, Jesus.

We ought to say so. Praise the Lord. This place ought to erupt with our praise.

It ought to erupt with our worship. Praise God.

It ought to erupt with a dance. It ought to erupt with a run.

It ought to erupt with a shout. Hallelujah.

Because God has been good to us. Woo!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Woo! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! James says, they cried unto the Lord in their trouble,

and he saved them out of their distresses.

As the music comes tonight.

Saints, let's be one of those that say so. Whether it's living our life in a

manner that speaks to our redemption,

let us speak of our redemption with our vocal cords, but not only with our vocal

cords, let our life reflect a life of redemption.

Let the world see a difference.

Hallelujah. And then when they ask you, then when they ask you,

why do you do what you do? Why do you not do what you do?

Well, let me tell you. The reason is because I was wandering in the wilderness in a solitary way.

I had no city to dwell in.

I was hungry and thirsty, and my soul was fainting.

Hallelujah.

Hallelujah. But I cried unto the Lord in my trouble, and he delivered me out

of their distresses, hallelujah.

And he led me by the right way that I might go to a city of habitation.

That's why I live like I live. That's why I do like I do. God has been good to me.

God has blessed me, hallelujah, God has done things in my life that I never

thought possible, hallelujah.

Somebody clap your hands, come on, come on, come on, you know, let's think about it.

Been good to us we come to church we've been redeemed he's done all these good

things for us and we sing a song and we go he brought me out of my recline,

but i'm going to tell you what that's all the praise we give him.

Hey they give more praise to somebody down there that throws a touchdown you

know what i mean somebody will throw a touchdown and that place goes nuts Those people go crazy.

You know what we ought to do? We ought to come into the house of the Lord and

give him a little praise because we've been redeemed.

praise God. And we ought to praise him.

We ought to say so, praise God. We ought to lift him up in everything we do.
