Thank you for joining us today.
-
We hope God speaks to you.
-
We hope dreams come alive and faith is ignited so you can impact the world and those around you.
-
For God's kingdom.
-
Enjoy the message.
-
All right, well let's, let's jump into to God's Word today.
-
Uh, I'm taking us back to take us forward, um, because I wanna make sure that we don't lose sight of, uh, the prophetic declaration that the Lord gave us, that this is going to be different.
-
Yes.
-
And, uh, I'm gonna take us back to week number one, and then, uh, we're going to springboard into the next couple of weeks as well through God's Word.
-
In Joshua chapter 2, Joshua has sent the spies over to look out the land.
Joshua 2 chapter mention
-
He sent two of them, and when they went to the land, the Bible says that they went to the house of, uh, of a prostitute by the name of Rahab, and when, uh, they got there, her response to them was, "Wait a second.
-
Wait a second.
-
We already know that the land that we currently occupy, God has already given you."
-
Yeah.
-
So like she says that to them.
-
I'm paraphrasing.
-
I want you to read the chapter.
-
She says, "Now, here's the thing.
-
Uh, please show kindness to my family."
-
At the same time, the king heard that the spies were in the land, and he becomes, and he sends a threat, and they knock on her door and, uh, she hides them on their roo- on her roof.
-
And then when it, when, when, when they come down and the, and the, and the people have gone and fled and trying to find them, she reminds them, she says, "Hey, listen, I've kept you safe.
-
Will you keep me safe?" Yeah.
-
And they say to her, "Listen, because you showed kindness to us, if you will allow this scarlet rag to hang from your window when we come through to...
-
Watch now, take what the Lord has already given us, repossess what He's already given us- Then we will show kindness to you.
-
But if at any point, if at any point you respond differently, the blood is on your own hands.
-
But here's what's crazy, and this is where the Lord began to speak to me about this series This Is Different.
-
It's their response based on what they had heard and seen that they gave to Joshua that let the people know that this was going to be different.
-
Yeah.
-
Okay? And so Joshua chapter 2, in the last...
Joshua 2 chapter mention
-
Let's just go over the last four verses, five verses.
-
In verse 21, this was her response.
-
I gave us the paraphrase.
-
It says this, "Then she said, 'According to your word, so be it.'
-
And she sent them away and they departed.
-
And she bound the scarlet cord in the window.
-
They departed and went, uh, up to the mountain and stayed up there for three days until the pursuers returned.
-
The pursuers sought them all along the way, but did not find them.
-
So the two men returned, descended from the mountain and crossed over; and they came to Joshua, the son of Nun, and told him all that had befallen them.
-
And they said to Joshua," watch this, "Truly the Lord has delivered all of the land into our hands.
-
For indeed all," somebody say all.
-
All.
-
"All of the inhabitants of the country are fainthearted because of us."
-
Uh-huh.
-
This morning, we're still in our series This Is Going To Be Different, but I felt like the Lord wanted me to actually refine that title for this morning that this time- Come on will be different.
-
Come on.
-
This time will be different.
-
Yeah.
-
I don't know if you've ever had to, to go back again to something- Yeah and, and it was almost felt like it was a redo- Yeah or a walk around the circle again.
-
I felt like as I was reading it this time, the Lord was like, "Damon, this time it's going to be different."
-
Yeah.
-
Like, it may look the same.
-
Come on.
-
It may look similar, but prophetically, this time- This time it's different.
-
Come on.
-
It's different.
-
Have you ever been there where, uh, uh...
-
We, we were praying earlier, or actually Jacob talked about how we've seen miracles in our students.
-
Yeah.
-
And we've been praying, and we've been, been seeing God show up for them, and there's this response and this boldness that I feel like the Lord wants us to have to where when we walk into a room, we would walk into the room going, "This time- Yeah it will be different."
-
Yeah.
-
I don't need to wear a billboard, I just know spiritually, God shifted something.
-
Yeah.
-
Are y'all gonna preach me down or- No.
-
Do I need to, like, go in your row and be like, "Ah!" No.
-
Like, like, like, like I, I, I feel like I, I, I have to give what the Lord is pushing me to- Yeah and, and, and I can't give it to you quietly.
-
Come on.
-
Like, because if you're like me, sometimes I get tired of being tired.
-
And when God says things like, "This is different," I'm gonna take Him at His word.
-
Yeah.
-
The soldiers go over, the spies go over.
-
Yeah.
-
And because of what they had sensed, the response that they gave Joshua was, "We won."
-
Yeah.
-
Like, they haven't fought yet.
-
Come on.
-
They haven't loaded up the cavalry yet.
-
Yeah.
-
It hasn't even gone to the people yet.
-
Yeah.
-
But he goes back, and he's like, "Joshua..."
-
This is just how, how I see it.
-
"Joshua, the time you went over- Yeah the other ones who were with you, they doubted."
-
Yeah.
-
"But you sent us two, and I just want you to know our response this time is different."
-
Come on.
-
"You know, Joshua, God told you to go."
-
Yeah.
-
"And y'all were ready to go, and you had to wait 40 years.
-
This time is different."
-
Come on.
-
"Joshua, you remember when you and Caleb were so furious because no one wanted to move.
-
I just want you to know, us two have come back to let you know our response is different."
-
Come on.
-
"This time is different."
-
Yeah.
-
Like, what if for the remainder of this summer, we already have God's prophetic utterance to our church that this is going to be different.
-
But what if over the first few weeks of the summer and month of the summer it didn't seem like it was? What if we woke back up tomorrow and say, "My Monday this time is different"? Come on.
-
Anybody else? So let me remind you of a couple of things that we said during week one, and I just need you to catch it.
-
Listen, I am so focused on filling in, in y'all's blanks today that I didn't even put any information on the second page Watch this, watch this.
-
Write this down.
-
Write this down.
-
This time, because we said this during week one, we said, "What's gonna be different?" We said, "Our confidence and our boldness is gonna be different."
-
But actually, this time, my confidence and my boldness is gonna be different.
-
Maybe when I showed up the first time, because PD, I was charged, I was excited, but maybe the doubt still outweighed the confidence and the faith.
-
But boy, when I walk into the doctor's office this time, I'm gonna be different.
-
Right.
-
Yeah.
-
This time it's gonna be different.
-
If I have to tell myself that it's gonna be different, then the way I speak to myself this time is gonna be different So we said, I'm trying to preach, Shawn Come on.
-
Shawn said, "You better preach."
-
Shawn, I, I got the microphone in my hand Watch, watch.
-
My boldness and my confidence this time is gonna be different It's gonna be different.
-
I have seen a glimpse of His goodness.
-
I've seen a confirmation of His promise.
-
If I have to borrow your faith- Come on.
-
Come on my faith this time will be different- Different because He did it for you.
-
Yes.
-
Yes.
-
If I have to lean on what God's done for you- Come on so that my faith can grow, my faith is gonna grow different this time.
-
Yes.
-
Yes.
-
If I need you to pray me through it- Come on so that I can get through it, this time I'm gonna allow you to pray me through it.
-
Yes.
-
Because this time is different My response this time is gonna be different.
-
It's gonna be different because my confidence and my boldness will be different this time.
-
Oh, yeah.
-
I'm not repeating steps no more.
-
Yeah.
-
Joshua, guess what? This is not a replay of the previous 40 years.
-
Yes.
-
This time is different This time is different, so we said our confidence and our boldness will be different.
-
The other thing that we said in week number one, and I'm reminding you, we said that our enemies will tremble and run in fear.
-
I just shared with you that Rahab said, "Hey, listen, just seeing your face, I just want you to know we already are defeated."
-
Like, we've already been defeated.
-
Like, the courage that we once had is gone because we heard about what your Lord has already done Like sometimes we can't keep quiet on how good God's been because maybe your enemy needs to hear your voice- Yeah and the stories of God's faithfulness.
-
Yeah.
-
That's the reason why we have to testify in church.
-
I love testimony service- Yeah when I grew up.
-
I talked about it a few weeks ago, months ago.
-
I love testimony service.
-
I love it now.
-
I didn't love it then because I wanted to get home.
-
But I love it now- Yeah because of the faithfulness of God, and it wasn't over the big stuff It was the small victories- Come on that the seasoned saints celebrated.
-
I just thought they were talking.
-
But now, I'm not seasoned yet, but now Right Somebody said, "Yes, you are."
-
Security.
-
Hadn't said, haven't needed security in weeks.
-
But now since I'm getting older, I realize that they were modeling for me- Yeah how good God had been.
-
Yes.
-
But I saw that they were also modeling that in front of their enemies.
-
They were telling them, "You don't want none of my God."
-
Yeah.
-
They would say stuff like, "He woke me up this morning."
-
Come on.
-
"Started me on my way.
-
Put food on my table, clothes on my back."
-
I'm like, "Ma'am, we can see that part."
-
But no, they were testifying.
-
Yeah.
-
They were literally being bold in front of their enemy.
-
Yeah.
-
Come on.
-
Why? Because if they boast about their God, then their enemy gotta deal with Him.
-
Yeah.
-
Come on.
-
And they go to Joshua, and they say, "Joshua, just want you to know."
-
They're waiting for us to repossess what's ours.
-
Ooh, that'll preach too.
-
What if our focus was so on God that your enemy already knows that it's a defeated foe? The enemy's just like, "Oh, I just hope they don't realize."
-
If, if victory was given to us because of the sacrifice of Jesus, then that means that our enemy is just a mirage.
-
Now listen now, he will throw attacks, and the attacks will hurt.
-
There's no doubt about it, that on our own strength, he will kick us from left to right.
-
But with the Jesus that's on the inside of us, what if he's standing and trembling, "I hope they don't realize how powerful His name is.
-
I hope that they don't really lock in and go to prayer and fasting.
-
I hope, I hope, I hope that they never realize the one that's living on the inside of them."
-
What if we took the posture that this time is different? What if this time that enemy of lack, yeah, because I'm disciplined now- Yeah in my spending plan.
-
I grabbed hold of what Mr.
-
Andre was preaching about.
-
Yeah.
-
Oh, I was living a lie at first.
-
Now? Oh, no.
-
I look at the enemy and be like, "You cannot have God's finances.
-
I thought those were mine.
-
Now all of it belongs to Him.
-
What you gonna do about touching His finances? You don't want no peace on Him."
-
Yeah.
-
What about your peace? It's God's peace.
-
Yeah.
-
Your family? It's God's family Y'all okay? Yes.
-
I feel okay Proverbs chapter 28 verse one, I read this week one.
Proverbs 28 chapter mention
-
It says, "The wicked flee when no one pursues But the righteous are as bold as a lion The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
-
Let me read that one more time.
-
The enemy of your life flees, and you haven't even chased it yet.
-
Yeah.
-
But the righteous are bold as a lion That's spiritual first- Yeah with a natural response.
-
Yeah.
-
I spend my time in the spiritual, and God has the enemy moving in the, in the spiritual.
-
So then when I see it happen in the natural, I go, "Oh, wow.
-
The time I spent pursuing Him in private produced something publicly."
-
Yeah.
-
Whoo.
-
My enemy couldn't stay.
-
Come on.
-
My enemy can't stay.
-
When He steps in spiritually, your enemy cannot stay We said this, we said this, we said this And this was kinda like a little slangish, but it's still proper.
-
We said God's word is confirmed in your face and in your enemy's face I don't know if that's the best point to write down or not, but sometimes I wanna see the faithfulness of God, like David said, in the land of the living And I have to be sensitive enough to give God credit when I see it happen That's the reason why I go back to the church moms and the deacons in the church, because the, it was the small things that allowed them to praise God so that when the big things happened, it was on the same level as the small things.
-
Come on.
-
They weren't just praising God for the big.
-
They were praising God even when he woke me up this morning, started me on my way.
-
So then when they go, "Man, he healed the back pain I'd already seen his faithfulness in my face And then when the enemy flees, I know it was God, had nothing to do with me.
-
Oh, yeah.
-
Like, if we could take a step back, because this time is different, and go, "You have been good."
-
Yeah.
-
"You have been kind.
-
I praise you because you did this," then what's happening is, is I'm going, "I recognize your faithfulness to me in my face."
-
Yeah.
-
How many of y'all have food on your table today? Yeah.
-
Let me see your hands.
-
If you don't, let us know.
-
Like, what if we go, "I see your provision right in my face"? His word is being fulfilled in our face.
-
Amen.
-
But do you know what I do sometimes, and maybe you're there with me? I overlook that because I need this And so I'm like, "God, are you doing anything?" And he's like, "Food on your table.
-
Clothes on your back.
-
Woke you up this morning.
-
Roof over your head.
-
Kids and family are healthy.
-
I know they may not be perfect, but I'm still there.
-
When you read my word, you can hear my voice.
-
When you pray, I talk back to you.
-
When you enter into worship, I show up.
-
I am showing you who I am in your face, which means then your enemy is also looking at me too."
-
That was week one All of this is happening as they go, "Joshua" This time is different Which then, let's fill in some more of your blanks.
-
That way I'm a man of my word.
-
Do you know what? I said, I said that a couple of weeks ago, and, uh, I was so encouraged by, by some of you all in the church.
-
'Cause I was like, "Oh man, the blanks."
-
And do you know what? Some guys came up to me like, "Yo, PD, we appreciate it when you don't fill in the blanks."
-
This is what they said, "Because the Holy Spirit is guiding the message."
-
Oh, yeah, boy.
-
Ugh.
-
And I was like, "That's God speaking."
-
But I'm gonna do my best.
-
I'm gonna do my best.
-
Look at the person beside you and say, "Let the Holy Spirit lead."
-
Somebody, somebody yelling out, "Fill in the blank."
-
The two security officers in the back is the two right here.
-
We got two available seats on the front row now.
-
Don't mind them being dragged out, it's for your goodness, okay? Write, write, write, write this down.
-
Write this down.
-
Write this down.
-
Write this down.
-
This time is gonna be different.
-
Watch now.
-
Watch, because I'm sensitive to what God is doing in me- Yeah through me, and for me.
-
This time is gonna be different because now, even in the waiting season- Yeah I realize God's doing something in me I, while I wait and I'm a little frustrated with Him, actually, I realize that I should not be frustrated with Him because this time's different.
-
He's doing something in me.
-
Come on.
-
He's doing something through me.
-
Yeah.
-
And ultimately, He's gonna do something for me Like, because it's going to be different, but this time for me it's different.
-
I realize that He's actually working on me Like Joshua waited 40 years And eventually he became the leader.
-
I don't know what the stories are like.
-
I don't know what God was doing in Joshua.
-
I don't know the development process, but I know that he was equipped after 40 years to lead Some of you have been waiting.
-
And the main question, if you're like me, sometimes you ask why What if, because this time is different, what if we actually give God more of a sentence? Can I, can I give it to you? Yeah.
-
I know that you're working on my behalf.
-
Yeah.
-
And I know that it's gonna work out for good.
-
Yeah.
-
And I know that you're working on me.
-
Yeah.
-
And so I know this time is different I've asked him why.
-
And maybe if you're like me sometimes too, he hasn't responded yet What if we give him more of a statement that says, "I may not see it, I'm still waiting, but my response is still tied to who you are."
-
Yeah.
-
Because this time is different.
-
Yeah.
-
Like, I realize that what God is gonna be doing, he's doing it in me.
-
He's gonna do it through me, and he's gonna ultimately do it for me I love it because the spies go up to the roof and they're literally seeing the protection of God take place.
-
They're seeing their enemy like, "No, I'm not gonna, uh, rat you out."
-
Their enemy's like, "No, listen, I want God to change my family and my legacy as well."
-
Y'all, y'all, I, I, I...
-
If I had time, I would take you throughout the New Testament where Rahab is mentioned for her faith She becomes the bridge for Jesus.
-
Like, I don't have the time for that though.
-
But like, it was her step of boldness and her step of courage to go, "You know what? The God who's saving you, I know, I know I'm your adversary right now, but I need the God that saved you to be the God that saves me too."
-
Like, I'm gonna be sensitive enough that, to know that I need Him to do something in me, through me, and for me And worship team, you can come forward 'cause I'm getting ready to close So since this time is different, write this down I'm gonna allow my testimony to become his victory I'm gonna allow my testimony to become his victory Joshua, I just want you to know, we saw it It was waiting for us But just so you know, we're victorious.
-
Yes.
-
And so is the Father.
-
That's good.
-
Like, what if the previous seasons become the victorious moments that we testify about? Yeah.
-
It's ultimately His victory.
-
That's what Rahab said, "We heard the victory that your God gave you."
-
Like, "We heard that it's your God that brought you to victory.
-
We heard about the God that you serve.
-
He's the one that took our courage away.
-
We already know that He's handing you our land."
-
We've heard the testimonies of his victories already.
-
What if this time Your testimony becomes his victory That person in your office needs to hear about the faithfulness of your God.
-
What if, watch now, what if we get the thing and instead of just going, "Thank you," it may seem cheesy, but what if we go, "Man, you, thank you for, for saying that, but I have to let you know that it was the Lord."
-
Like, and sincerely pause- Yeah so that they feel awkward.
-
Yeah.
-
Because I've been in environments where I talk about the Lord and they're like, "Oh, man.
-
Okay, yeah, man."
-
And then they try to go to the next thing.
-
No, no, no.
-
Like, I really want you to know, like- Yeah.
-
Yeah it was all him So that your testimony begins to be the seed that maybe God waters.
-
It may not be you who are constantly watering, but it may be a replication of what they've already heard.
-
Yeah.
-
But maybe they didn't believe, or maybe you're the one that shifts them to go, "Well, I need to surrender too."
-
Y'all can start playing.
-
Yeah.
-
Give me like something really nice and slow Look, write this down.
-
Write this down.
-
And I'm just, I'm just gonna go through the next ones, okay? Because there's this rhythm.
-
There's so much in Joshua chapter 2, y'all, I could just...
Joshua 2 chapter mention
-
And, and, and they say that really, uh, when you're in a, in a service, they say that all of us in a service, we only catch really about 15 minutes And they say that we can give as many points as we want, but you all, myself, we may only catch three.
-
I just want you to know that.
-
The reason why I, one, I love scripture so much, and the reason why we try to go, uh, further in God's Word is so that as a church we fall in love with His Word.
-
The other reason why we may have a number of things for you to write down on a Sunday and it may seem like, whoa, is because we just don't know which thought the Lord has for you and for you and for you So I just want you to know the why.
-
The goal is so that we love scripture, not so that Sunday mornings become the only time that you jump into scripture.
-
That means that the other six days you're at a deficit So write this down because as I was reading it, there is this thought process that they mention as they're talking to Joshua that I felt like the Lord just showed me is that, watch now, that this time is different.
-
Watch.
-
Because I know that I know People, uh, they, when Ty and I were in marriage counseling, one of the questions that they asked us, and one of the questions that I like to ask in marriage counseling is like, "Well, how do you know that, uh, you know, you love them?" And this is the response consistently: "Ah, I just know."
-
"Well, no, no, what do you mean?" "No, no, I just...
-
It's hard to describe.
-
I, I, I just know.
-
I know that I wouldn't wanna live without this person.
-
I know that when I'm around them, they make me better.
-
I just, I just know."
-
Like, this time, what if we walked into every situation just knowing that we know? It may be hard to describe.
-
I just know that I know that God's gonna show up for me.
-
I just know it.
-
Like, and nothing can change that.
-
I know that I know that I just wanna be with Him.
-
Like, I know that I know that He has my life forever.
-
I just know that I know that I'm not walking away.
-
I know that I know that even in the middle of tests and trials and heartache and pain, that He still loves me.
-
I just know that I know.
-
I know that I know that in this season of moving from cautious to courageous, I know that I'm not going by myself.
-
I just know that I know, and nobody's gonna change my mind.
-
Even if you talk to me in doubt, I just know that I know that CityPlace is gonna have a permanent home.
-
I just know that I know that we're gonna impact the one.
-
I just know that I know that our students next week are gonna encounter the presence of the Lord.
-
I just know it.
-
I just know that I know that as you serve during Impact Week, we're gonna make such a great impact for the Kingdom of God.
-
I just know that I know Like, I just know that I know.
-
What if this time, because it's so different, we settle our heart to just know that we know that God's been faithful.
-
Why? Because I walk in a different level of boldness.
-
I'm willing to give Him my testimony as His victory.
-
I just know that I know.
-
I just know that I know James 1 verse two says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds."
-
Because watch now, you know, you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
-
Lets perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
-
Like, you just know that you know that if God takes us through a process, I know that I'm gonna be stronger, wiser, and more mature because of Him.
-
I just know that I know.
-
Write this down.
-
Write this down.
-
Because I know that I know, I step with courage.
-
I step out with courage.
-
Now, we talked about moving from cautious to courageous.
-
We said that God meets us in our comfort, and then that first step that we normally take is cautious.
-
I don't know about this.
-
I...
-
Reluctantly, I may take a step.
-
And then we said the thing that gets us to where we need to be courageously is that we connect to the Father through the Son.
-
And as we connect with Him, we become more consistent.
-
But that's not it.
-
We go back to Jesus because we wanna remain connected to the Father.
-
And a- as we remain connected, we then become consistent, and then com- become committed.
-
But then what...
-
We don't just stop there.
-
I go, I, I remain connected to Him, and then I become courageous.
-
Like, because this time is different, I'm stepping with courage.
-
Y'all, we've been reading a scripture verse as a church, Joshua chapter 1.
Joshua 1 chapter mention
-
It says this in verse six through seven, and then together we're gonna read verse nine It says this, God is speaking to Joshua.
-
He says, "Be strong and courageous because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them."
-
Now remember in chapter two, Rahab's like, "You know what? This land belonged to you anyway."
-
Verse seven says, "Be strong and very courageous.
-
Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you.
-
Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go."
-
Verse nine.
-
Can you read verse nine with me on the count of three? Ready? One, two, three.
-
"Have I not- This time is different because I'm taking a step of courage.
-
God's called us to move from cautious to courageous because this time is different.
-
Last two things, and you guys can write these down This time is different because I'm going to cherish His Word.
-
I wanna cherish His Word.
-
I changed the slide, by the way.
-
I changed the slide.
-
I'm gonna cherish His Word.
-
The way I originally wrote it was a little bit longer.
-
It, it was, "I will read, I will absorb, and I will live out His Word."
-
But we wanna cherish His Word.
-
Like, His, His Word should be valuable to us.
-
That was the original.
-
But as I was, uh, fine-tuning yesterday, I just felt like, no, you know what? I wanna l- I wanna love His Word so much.
-
Because otherwise it's, it may become a habit.
-
"Hey, I had my reading today.
-
I took down some notes."
-
But no, I actually love His Word because like Joshua said, "If I will just delight myself in Your Word day and night, and observe to do all that is written in it, then my way will be made prosperous, and then I'll experience good success."
-
I'm, I'm gonna cherish Your Word.
-
And then the last one is, is that you and I just simply have to prepare for different.
-
We have to prepare for different We have to prepare for different What, what, what, what's the, what's the phrase? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result, right? Like, uh, sometimes we have to, we just have to prepare for different.
-
And Ty, you can come on up.
-
Joshua chapter three, watch this.
-
The soldiers come back, the spies come back, and they say, "Hey, just want you to know God's given us the land."
-
Now watch, watch the preparation for different.
-
It says this, "Then Joshua rose early in the morning.
-
They set out from the Acacia Grove and came to the Jordan.
-
He and all of the children of Israel lodged there before they crossed over.
-
And so it was after three days that the officers went through the camp, and they commanded the people, saying, 'When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God and the priests and Levites bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.
-
Yet there shall be a space between you it, between you and it, about 2,000 cubits by measures.'"
-
Watch now.
-
"'Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before.'"
-
And look at verse five.
-
"Joshua says to the people, 'Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders amongst you.'"
-
Set yourself apart.
-
Prepare, because what you are about to see this time is different.
