  1. I think I heard somebody over here saw

  2. thems on the big screen during that

  3. video it's a big deal

  4. Uh Kevin Love You Kevin Welcome To Life

  5. Church my name is Ryan I hope you

  6. enjoyed the worship today I know I did

  7. and I hope you enjoy just the beautiful

  8. weather out there uh I was telling my

  9. kids this the other day that um when I

  10. was a kid you you went to school often

  11. not knowing what the temperature was

  12. going to be that day like you didn't

  13. have an app you had to work to kind of

  14. get the weather a little bit harder and

  15. so I as a kid I developed this strategy

  16. that I I would understand how cold it

  17. was simply based on how fast my nose

  18. hairs would freeze and you just knew if

  19. they freeze right away it's a cold day

  20. if not you're good so I anticipate today

  21. is a nose hair

  22. freezing type of day um I do every once

  23. in a while I look at the the town I grew

  24. up in it's always colder there so it was

  25. -17 there today I'm like that's right

  26. it's only negative one here so this

  27. Coastal climate here in Milwaukee uh but

  28. it is good to be here today it's good to

  29. have you here we're in a series called

  30. the way uh Pastor Aaron is actually in

  31. Bangladesh right now he's avoiding this

  32. negative one degree weather he's

  33. probably sleeping right now Pastor Aon

  34. if you're not sleeping if you're

  35. watching this thanks for tuning in but

  36. it he's actually there with fire Bible

  37. he's I don't want to steal his Thunder

  38. because I know he's going to be talking

  39. a lot about this um over the course of

  40. the next year but a a really cool

  41. opportunity has opened up in the country

  42. of Bangladesh for us to go in and be

  43. able to partner with fire Bible there

  44. and so he'll be back next Sunday uh but

  45. this series called the way uh what we're

  46. doing is we're walking through different

  47. things throughout scripture that Jesus

  48. modeled for us they're things that uh

  49. not only Jesus taught but they're things

  50. that we should adopt in our own lives

  51. and so the first week if you were here

  52. we looked at uh the Great Commission

  53. that we are to go and make disciples

  54. what does that mean what does that look

  55. like and so Pastor Aaron even talked

  56. about what we're doing here at Life

  57. church and we believe this is a year

  58. we're going to see more people come to

  59. faith in Christ than ever before and if

  60. you haven't seen it yet there's a big

  61. cross in the foyer that has little light

  62. bulbs in it every time somebody makes a

  63. decision to follow Jesus this next year

  64. and lets us know about that we're going

  65. to put a light bulb in there and so far

  66. we already have 12 light bulbs just

  67. through these first couple of

  68. weeks every one of those is a story of

  69. life change and we're going to celebrate

  70. that this next year uh and then last

  71. week we talked about prayer Jesus

  72. modeled for us what it looks like to

  73. have conversation with god even though

  74. he was fully God fully man he said I'm

  75. going to lay out a strategy and a model

  76. for everyone to adopt and so we looked

  77. at the Lord's Prayer uh and how we

  78. should Implement that into our own lives

  79. uh today we're looking at how Jesus

  80. modeled Community this is something that

  81. Jesus did extremely well uh Jesus had a

  82. tendency to gather others around him and

  83. so it's it's something that I know

  84. there's some people in this room you're

  85. doing really well at this there's others

  86. of you that this is a struggle and so

  87. I'm going to speak to both groups today

  88. but we want to look at scripture today

  89. of how Jesus gathered people around him

  90. we live in a world that is increasingly

  91. becoming more and more we call it

  92. independent but it's really more and

  93. more isolated it's more and more

  94. insulated it's more and more getting

  95. away from people we're living apart more

  96. than ever before and the problem with

  97. that is there will come a day each and

  98. every one of us we will have times

  99. multiple times most likely where we need

  100. others we need somebody that's going to

  101. encourage us we need somebody who's

  102. going to just physically help us with

  103. something we need somebody who's going

  104. to just pray for us that we can call at

  105. any time and yet more and more people in

  106. America especially don't have anybody to

  107. turn to in those moments I uh live in a

  108. neighborhood that I am very uh glad to

  109. be a part of because it it's it's kind

  110. of like an old school neighborhood it's

  111. one that you still borrow ingredients

  112. from each other you know like I just I

  113. like that I remember as a kid that would

  114. happen frequently it seems to be lost

  115. now but especially with you can have

  116. stuff door dashed to your door at

  117. anytime I don't need neighbors I'm going

  118. to just do it on my own type of we had a

  119. neighbor uh ask the other like a couple

  120. years ago if we had any more if we had

  121. any tater tots they were

  122. out yes we always have tater tots have

  123. at it and so I I like that community

  124. that we're a part of we look out for

  125. each other you know we'll get text

  126. messages occasionally where it's like

  127. hey your your uh downspout fell off your

  128. house thank you I would have never seen

  129. that back in the back corner what we

  130. like sometimes it is a little ominous

  131. because it's like did you hear those

  132. voices in the woods last night

  133. everything okay what no we didn't I I

  134. wish I you didn't tell me that but uh

  135. there's a sense of community in our

  136. neighborhood and I was especially glad

  137. to have that sense of community this

  138. past summer when we needed neighbors to

  139. step in and help now just to give a

  140. little backdrop of the story uh we moved

  141. into this house uh a little less than 5

  142. years ago and early on uh we actually

  143. had a gas leak and it was a big deal it

  144. ended up not being a huge deal but it

  145. was a learning moment for our kids where

  146. we were explaining to them what happened

  147. we got it fixed apparently on a Tuesday

  148. Morning in Washington County there's not

  149. a lot going on so we had every fire

  150. truck and every first responder like 45

  151. people came to be at the scene or

  152. whatever but we were able to explain to

  153. our kids this is what happened and if

  154. you smell this if you if the carbon

  155. monoxide detector goes off here's what

  156. you do so our kids were maybe a little

  157. bit amped up on knowing what to

  158. expect so fast forward to this past

  159. summer and uh I was gone Amanda was home

  160. and we just had two of our kids I told

  161. them I wasn't going to say say their

  162. names okay so you'll but you'll figure

  163. it out if you know my family at all but

  164. uh two of our kids were home alone for

  165. about 30 minutes okay Amanda was running

  166. to the store real quick or running to

  167. get food and was going to be back and

  168. she said hey while I'm gone take showers

  169. okay we always like we always strategize

  170. there you got to do things that are not

  171. going to involve getting injured you

  172. know so like it's this is not a time to

  173. play tackle football while Mom and Dad

  174. are gone so just you're going to take

  175. showers okay and so one of our kid get

  176. he gets ready to get in the shower

  177. turns on the water and the water is

  178. coming out completely

  179. Brown and he gets his other brother

  180. involved and they're looking at this and

  181. they're assessing what is happening

  182. right now and they say that's a gas leak

  183. right

  184. there and I mean you can see the logic

  185. of it a little bit like gasoline leak

  186. and so that's a gas leak right there so

  187. they turn off the water and go into and

  188. I I we actually proud of them in this

  189. moment like it wasn't a gas leak I'll

  190. get to that but but you did the right

  191. thing if you sense that something was

  192. wrong so they get out of the house now

  193. mind you one of our kids is just wearing

  194. underwear at this moment okay didn't

  195. take time to put clothes on runs out of

  196. the house gets to the front yard grabs

  197. the dog they're in such a panic one of

  198. our kids actually like hit his back on

  199. the garage door when they he was like

  200. going under and trying to like close the

  201. garage door and and they just started

  202. yelling for help in the

  203. neighborhood kind of operation they got

  204. going on at the cogin house that's what

  205. people are wondering what what's

  206. happening over here but I I tell you

  207. that because I was so thankful there

  208. were two neighbors that stepped into

  209. action immediately one of them that

  210. texted my wife he only heard the boys

  211. yelling for help and was like is

  212. everything okay and she's like I don't

  213. know what she called them she's like I'm

  214. abandoning whatever she was going to do

  215. she came right home in the meantime they

  216. went over to my other neighbor's house

  217. and uh again this guy answering the door

  218. is like what what's going on here guys

  219. this is a weird way to sell cookies in

  220. just your underwear so he opens the door

  221. and they're explaining he could tell

  222. something was wrong could and they're

  223. explaining what happened and he's like

  224. you know I I thought I saw earlier today

  225. that you guys got a a new hot water

  226. heater and they're like yeah he's like

  227. then that that's all it is the water

  228. just needed to flush through a little

  229. bit and I'm sure it's not a gas leak

  230. you're okay Amanda got home right around

  231. the same time calmed everything down

  232. everything was good but I tell you that

  233. because I'm so glad that I have

  234. neighbors that identify if there's a

  235. problem and are going to step in and

  236. help we've lost that in our uh in

  237. America we've lost this sense of

  238. community not entirely but it's become

  239. something that has definitely diminished

  240. where do you turn when you don't know

  241. what to do where do you turn where

  242. you're like I I don't have any answers I

  243. need help where do you turn when you

  244. need encouragement the the Bible warns

  245. against this type of isolation that so

  246. many people have in Ecclesiastes 4:10 it

    Ecclesiastes 4:10

  247. says but woe to the one who falls when

  248. there is not another to lift him

  249. up I'm genuinely concerned about where

  250. so many people are when it comes to

  251. their community that they've insulated

  252. themselves from others we're more

  253. connected than others I mean than ever

  254. before you take out your phone you can

  255. you can reach anyone in just a second

  256. and yet we're so disconnected in so many

  257. different ways there's a a study done in

  258. 2019 that was asking uh different

  259. Americans about loneliness and it found

  260. that 61% of Americans identify as being

  261. lonely 61% now if you look specifically

  262. at Millennials My Generation if you look

  263. specifically there it's 79% four out of

  264. five say that they are

  265. lonely 25% of American adults live live

  266. alone which may not seem like a high

  267. number but that's double what it was

  268. just 50 years ago uh most Americans say

  269. they have less than two close friends

  270. and a lot of this there's a lot of

  271. reasons for this increased Mobility uh

  272. people move every three years on average

  273. can you believe that that sounds like a

  274. nightmare to me every three years

  275. getting a moving truck and everything

  276. involved with that but there there's

  277. they not time there's not time to build

  278. community when there's that much

  279. turnover happening modern conveniences I

  280. love modern

  281. conveniences but a lot of them have

  282. continued this trend even air

  283. conditioning you know many decades ago

  284. thank God for air conditioning but it

  285. absolutely has changed the way we live

  286. our lives that you know instead of

  287. hanging out outside in the evening when

  288. it was cooler outside you'd stay inside

  289. you'd stay inside or garage door openers

  290. you know like just the fact that I can

  291. open up my garage and have a attached

  292. garage and close the door I don't have

  293. to talk to anybody that that that's kind

  294. of I don't know if you've ever find

  295. yourself doing that before where you're

  296. like you see a neighbor out and it's so

  297. bad but you're like I just don't want to

  298. I don't have time for a conversation

  299. right I don't maybe I'm the only one

  300. that's ever guilty of that Amazon I love

  301. Amazon but man the number of times we're

  302. just out and about going to stores is

  303. way down uh some of you don't know this

  304. but

  305. voicemail you used to have to answer the

  306. phone like if you wanted to know who was

  307. calling you and you didn't know it is it

  308. an emergency is it not you had no idea

  309. talk about anxiety that what what would

  310. happen if we went back to those days so

  311. you'd answer the phone now today it's

  312. like don't call me Tech you ever get a

  313. voicemail that says don't leave a

  314. message I won't listen to it just text

  315. me or what maybe you're one of those

  316. people it's like we don't even want to

  317. talk to each other and and social media

  318. I mean we could spend an entire week

  319. just talking about all the pitfalls

  320. involved with that we're more connected

  321. than ever before and yet we've become

  322. very

  323. isolated it's so easy to be

  324. isolated but yet the Bible explains in

  325. Matthew 18 when Jesus is talking about

  326. Community he says that his very presence

  327. is found in community if you have your

  328. Bibles Matthew 18:20 many of you know

    Matthew 18:20

  329. this verse but it says for where two or

  330. three are gathered in my name there am I

  331. among them Jesus says that the very

  332. presence of God Jesus's presence is

  333. found in community and so the question

  334. for us today is we know this when you

  335. read through scripture and we're going

  336. to turn to some different passages today

  337. we know that we were designed and

  338. created for Community we know that the

  339. benefits of community and yet so often

  340. we don't have it what do we do about

  341. that how do I experience Godly community

  342. and I I think like anything else I think

  343. it's so important that we look back at

  344. the original intention God's design for

  345. Humanity and so if you have your Bibles

  346. in Genesis chapter 1 I think so much

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  347. goes back to the Book of Genesis and how

  348. the what was the original intention the

  349. first thing that we see here is that God

  350. lives in community if you're taking

  351. notes that's the kind of the first point

  352. today God lives in community there's a A

  353. peculiar verse in Genesis chapter one

  354. where God is talking about the creation

  355. of the

  356. world and he says this Genesis 1:26 he

    Genesis 1:26

  357. says then God said let us make man in

  358. our image after our

  359. likeness God is referring to himself in

  360. the plural form and that's not the only

  361. place in Scripture that that happens

  362. it's a couple other times in the Book of

  363. Genesis in fact in in the book of Isaiah

  364. when God God calls Isaiah he actually

  365. says Whom Shall I sin and who will go

  366. for

  367. us there's this plural form of God and

  368. Bible scholars would say that uh that

  369. this is in reference to the Trinity God

  370. the Father God the son and God the Holy

  371. Spirit that it's three in one and it's

  372. not just a theological concept for us

  373. it's actually a model for what it looks

  374. like to have community that God himself

  375. had Community Tim Keller a pastor and

  376. theologian said it like this he says at

  377. the center of the universe is a

  378. community it is out of that community

  379. that you and I were created and

  380. redeemed the very center of the universe

  381. at the very core of everything around us

  382. is a community God lived in community

  383. God lives in community which leads to

  384. the second point which is similar but a

  385. little different that we were created

  386. for Community we were created in the

  387. image and likeness of God therefore we

  388. were also created for Community it says

  389. it in Genesis 1: 27 it's the very next

  390. verse it says so God created man in his

  391. own image in the image of God he created

  392. him male and female he created him

  393. and then we go to the very next chapter

  394. and at this point God has created the

  395. entire world he's created all of the you

  396. know the the stars and the Moon and the

  397. Sun and mountains and rivers and animals

  398. and man but he says something's not

  399. right here something's not good in

  400. chapter 2: 18 it says then the Lord God

  401. said it is not good that man should be

  402. alone Pastor Aaron says it all the time

  403. but God addressed man's aloneness before

  404. he addressed his sin before sin ever

  405. entered the The World God recognized

  406. that being alone is not good he sees

  407. this in Adam we were never designed as

  408. as as humans to be alone and I think

  409. it's more difficult in our current

  410. makeup in this current time in history

  411. to understand that because for thousands

  412. of years it was just assumed that we

  413. needed community that we needed each

  414. other every culture has been a hunting

  415. and Gathering culture that would

  416. organize into groups of about 150

  417. typically and you needed each other for

  418. survival you needed each other for

  419. protection you needed each other for

  420. food you needed each other for

  421. everything it you know the whole phrase

  422. it takes a village that that's how

  423. humans have been for thousands of years

  424. it hasn't been until the last 100 to 200

  425. years that we've started to drift away

  426. from that and sociologists have actually

  427. done studies on the human brain that

  428. when you remove somebody from a close

  429. social group it creates a fight ORF

  430. flight dynamic in the brain it can be

  431. documented that that happens as soon as

  432. that happens and today uh it it it's not

  433. just life and death as it was you know

  434. hundreds of years ago but it's a anxiety

  435. it's loneliness it's depression these

  436. are some of the things that come out of

  437. removing somebody from a social group we

  438. were never

  439. created to do life alone we were never

  440. created for

  441. isolation once we understand uh how we

  442. were created and designed that God

  443. created us to be social people that he

  444. created us in

  445. community we can look at the model of

  446. Jesus in scripture and that's really

  447. what I want to get to today if you're

  448. taking notes Jesus chose intentional

  449. Community Jesus modeled for us what it

  450. looks like to have

  451. intentional community in fact the very

  452. first thing that Jesus did in his public

  453. Ministry was he gathered men around him

  454. to do life together we read about it in

  455. Mark chap 1 it says passing alongside

  456. the Sea of Galilee he saw Simon and

  457. Andrew the brother of Simon casting a

  458. net into the sea for they were

  459. fishermen and Jesus said to them follow

  460. me and I will make you become Fishers of

  461. Men and immediately they left their Nets

  462. and followed him and going on a little

  463. farther he saw James the son of Zebedee

  464. and John his brother who were in their

  465. boat mending their Nets and immediately

  466. medely he called them and they left

  467. their father Zebedee in the boat and the

  468. hired servants and followed

  469. him this is just one example Jesus goes

  470. on to call eight more men um to be his

  471. disciples and that's how he started his

  472. ministry and I what I love most about

  473. when you really study the disciples is

  474. there it was such a diverse group of

  475. people I mean you had fisherman which

  476. was just kind of a blue collar Average

  477. Joe type of a person and then you had

  478. Matthew the tax collector he would have

  479. been more an elite and would have not

  480. been viewed favorably by the fisherman

  481. he took advantage of people like that

  482. then you have you know Simon the Zealot

  483. was he was more of a rebel he would he

  484. was kind of trying to overthrow the

  485. government type of a person you have

  486. this wide swath of people see Community

  487. was never is never meant to be

  488. Conformity it's not just getting around

  489. people that think exactly the way you do

  490. on every topic it there was a diversity

  491. to it as

  492. well sociologist Robin

  493. Dunbar maybe you've heard of Robin

  494. before but uh he did a very famous study

  495. that he talked about the different types

  496. of relationships that human beings need

  497. that were were it's not just one type of

  498. relationship there's many different

  499. types and so you think of it in terms of

  500. like concentric circles right around you

  501. the first group is you need Intimate

  502. Relationships that might be up to five

  503. people uh that may be a spouse hopefully

  504. it's a spouse that may be a a close

  505. friend these are people who you bear

  506. your soul to these are people there's no

  507. secrets it's kind of like these are your

  508. goto relationship and then there's this

  509. the second ring of relationships which

  510. are just friendships it's up to about 15

  511. people um maybe you don't bear your soul

  512. to them but these are these are your

  513. good friends maybe it's even some family

  514. members uh a brother or a sister that

  515. are just genuinely good friends these

  516. are people you've you know on vacation

  517. with these are people that you hang out

  518. with regularly and then you have this

  519. next ring which would be your village

  520. this is up to 150 people uh and that's

  521. kind of where uh for for decades for for

  522. centuries uh humans have organized into

  523. groups of about 150 people that's about

  524. how many people you can be in

  525. relationship with and so this is your

  526. village these are people you may not

  527. know every single one of them but

  528. they're people that you're connected to

  529. maybe it's people that you go to church

  530. with maybe it's your class in school

  531. whatever it may be but it's your village

  532. then beyond that there's your tribe and

  533. these are not people that you all know

  534. these are people that but you have a lot

  535. of affinity with and so maybe let me

  536. give you an example how many people in

  537. this room you're Packer fans raise your

  538. hand less than I thought ra okay that's

  539. your tribe okay maybe it's a a I'm not

  540. going to make you raise your hand on

  541. political party okay uh we want to stay

  542. connected here today but that could be

  543. another tribe these are people that you

  544. have uh this could be other Christians

  545. probably everybody in this room you're

  546. connected to that's part of your tribe

  547. and and Robin Dunbar in this study says

  548. you need all four types of relationships

  549. and we see Jesus model this I think it's

  550. so cool in Scripture that you even see

  551. that Jesus had an inner circle he had uh

  552. Peter James and John these are people

  553. that he was really really close with he

  554. would do extra things with them that he

  555. didn't do with the rest of the disciples

  556. and then you see his his friend group

  557. which is really the disciples plus Mary

  558. Martha Lazarus we read about a few

  559. people like that that were kind of part

  560. of his friend group and then you see

  561. that he had the 120 uh in Jerusalem in

  562. Acts chapter 1 this is kind of his his

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  563. village so to speak and then you see

  564. everybody every Christ follower beyond

  565. that and that Beyond chapter 2 and and

  566. on this is kind of the tribe these are

  567. people who identify as Christ followers

  568. that was his tribe we need relationships

  569. at all four

  570. levels but when it comes to your

  571. spiritual growth when it comes to really

  572. what uh the areas that we need to dig

  573. into it's it's these first two circles

  574. it's this the intimate relationships and

  575. the friendships the question for you

  576. today is who's in your intimate

  577. Circle in this study uh by by Robin

  578. Dunbar he said the average person

  579. doesn't have anybody that they would

  580. really say is in that intimate Circle

  581. that's a scary

  582. thought who's in your friend Circle we

  583. were designed to have relationships in

  584. both of those

  585. areas so who's in those two inner

  586. Circles of your

  587. life and I know that you may be saying

  588. today Ryan I get it I I understand I'm

  589. supposed to have friendships but that's

  590. more that's easier said than done how do

  591. I find

  592. that let me tell you just a little bit

  593. about my experience here and um I'm not

  594. trying to say hey I did this the right

  595. way and you should do it my way or

  596. anything like that but let me just tell

  597. you a little bit about my experience

  598. because I I grew up in a home that I

  599. feel like my parents did this very well

  600. they were very intentional about having

  601. Godly relationships with other couples

  602. and for us as kids to have with other

  603. kids and so my parents parents would

  604. often do uncomfortable things like they

  605. would have strangers over to our house a

  606. lot they did something called dinner for

  607. six I remember it distinctly because

  608. sometimes we would know the families

  609. sometimes we wouldn't but they would

  610. invite families over to our house and

  611. then they threw all the kids in the

  612. basement again sometimes we didn't know

  613. these kids at all and said go play for

  614. four hours and sometimes it was awkward

  615. sometimes uh and they would then connect

  616. with other couples and I can tell you

  617. that my closest friendships over the

  618. years people that I'm still in

  619. relationship today came out of that

  620. people that are now in Ministry people

  621. that I mean I can just I can name person

  622. after person that I was in relationship

  623. that I met that I got to know simply

  624. because my parents were intentional

  625. about that and so when Amanda and I got

  626. married I just knew that's got to be a

  627. part of our life that's not something I

  628. would naturally do I'm extremely shy I

  629. was always a shy kid very introverted

  630. but I knew that's that's what being a

  631. Christ follower looks like I need to

  632. model that for my kids someday and so we

  633. moved

  634. here uh about 17 years ago it's a long

  635. time ago uh 17 years ago and we didn't

  636. have any kids we didn't have any family

  637. in the area we didn't know anybody in

  638. the Milwaukee area uh really and so

  639. right away we knew we got to get in

  640. relationship with people not just

  641. because it's my job as a pastor but

  642. because that's what being a Christ

  643. follower looks like and so we began to

  644. look for Life groups to be a part of we

  645. were part of a couple different life

  646. groups and just trying to figure out you

  647. know kind of who's who are the people we

  648. want to run with and a couple years into

  649. that we started to find some couples and

  650. I'm looking out I actually see some of

  651. you right now that we just really

  652. connected with we were about the same

  653. age we you know maybe had newly had kids

  654. and so over the last 15 years or so

  655. we've really done life with a group of

  656. people here at at Life Church that um

  657. love God that uh would do anything for

  658. each other that we hang out not just

  659. during life group season believe it or

  660. not where there's times outside of Life

  661. groups we've gone on trips together

  662. we've gone on missions trips together

  663. our kids have grown up together uh We've

  664. prayed for each other many times we've

  665. been there for each other during

  666. difficult Seasons it's not always been

  667. uh it's not always been great because

  668. you know there there's been somebody in

  669. our group that actually lost their

  670. husband that we were there during that

  671. season to pray with them and be with

  672. them and I know beyond a shadow of a

  673. doubt that if I needed anything that I

  674. could call anybody in this group and

  675. they would be right there uh again it's

  676. not always been perfect it's not you

  677. know I'm not saying it's not been

  678. without struggle it it it took some

  679. intentionality there's times there's

  680. been times where we have you know life

  681. group on a particular night and I'm not

  682. feeling it I'm like I don't want to

  683. tonight and it's like you kind of pushed

  684. through that sorry if you're in the room

  685. and uh I've all I've never thought that

  686. of you uh no but there's times where

  687. it's like it's not always convenient

  688. it's there's times where it's like I got

  689. we got a busy schedule we got a lot

  690. going on and yet I'm just telling you

  691. right now if you take time for

  692. intentional Godly relationships that's

  693. how God designed it that's what we were

  694. created for that there's going to be

  695. times where you need to rely on a group

  696. of people like that to encourage you to

  697. pray with you and so

  698. today there's there's two different

  699. types of people in this room uh there's

  700. those of you who you say everything I'm

  701. talking about right now you're like I

  702. got that Ryan I'm telling you I have a

  703. group just like that I agree with

  704. everything that you're saying I have a

  705. group like that praise God for that my

  706. encouragement or my challenge to you

  707. would be is there somebody not in that

  708. group that you could invite into that

  709. group oh I don't know about that I mean

  710. we kind of got got a good thing going we

  711. got you know or whatever I don't want to

  712. throw off the Dynamics or you know I

  713. just encourage you is there somebody

  714. else that you can invite into that

  715. Circle somebody else who needs that type

  716. of

  717. community there's others of you in this

  718. room today that you're like I honestly

  719. don't have a lot of those types of

  720. relationships and my encouragement to

  721. you today would be look around you're

  722. you're in a room filled with men and

  723. women that are probably likeminded in a

  724. lot L of ways and sometimes it's simply

  725. Reaching Across the aisle introducing

  726. yourself that's why at Life Church we

  727. actually do life groups I know a lot of

  728. this is is kind of building towards

  729. getting in a life group and that's

  730. you're kind of waiting for me to push

  731. that it may happen in a life group it

  732. may not it may just be that know healthy

  733. churches group together whether it's

  734. part of a formal life group or an

  735. informal group of any kind that that

  736. part of it doesn't really matter we

  737. simply do life groups to create an easy

  738. onramp for people to try to organize it

  739. as best we can and I get it you look at

  740. if you you know this card that Luke

  741. mentioned before if you look at all the

  742. groups you see a ton of them I think

  743. there's 80s something in there at

  744. Germantown that there's a lot of

  745. different groups it's intimidating it's

  746. like which one do I go and be a part of

  747. uh you can try multiple groups they're

  748. they're only 90 days long and then

  749. there's kind of a reset that happens and

  750. it might be right here at Life Church

  751. that you find a group that you can get

  752. connected to and be a part of of I'm not

  753. telling you you're going to just be best

  754. friends day one maybe maybe that will

  755. happen but it may take some time but

  756. just begin somewhere begin to develop

  757. that my other challenge for you

  758. today is simply this I don't know if we

  759. always do a a good job of just being

  760. neighborly and friendly I'll speak for

  761. myself I don't always do a good job of

  762. that I have to be intentional about that

  763. and I'd encourage you before before you

  764. leave today find one person in the foyer

  765. in the parking lot maybe in the foyer

  766. parking lot's a little cold right now in

  767. the foyer that you can just simply say

  768. hey Ryan told me I'm supposed to

  769. introduce myself to somebody you can you

  770. can use that as your opening line if you

  771. would want to uh but find somebody

  772. you've not met before introduce yourself

  773. that's what we were created for uh not

  774. just coming here to worship God yes that

  775. is absolutely part of Why We Gather here

  776. together but it's also to do life with

  777. one another another if you read through

  778. the book of Acts especially chapter 2 it

  779. talks so much about this it says that

  780. they had everything in common now again

  781. different day and age there's different

  782. dynamics that were going on then but

  783. they had deep relationships with each

  784. other and I'd encourage you today if

  785. you've not experienced that start

  786. somewhere maybe it is signing up for a

  787. life group and we got a lot of great

  788. ones we got a lot of great leaders here

  789. in this room in fact if you're leading a

  790. life group this next semester your hand

  791. how many how many life group leaders do

  792. we have in this room lots of people in

  793. this room you see the people with their

  794. hands raised go if you see somebody

  795. that's like I like the I like the little

  796. vest they're wearing go up to them and

  797. say I want to be a part of your group

  798. what how do I get involved with that

  799. just start somewhere and so today as we

  800. close uh that that's simply my challenge

  801. to you

  802. today get involve do life with other

  803. people I'm going to invite you to stand

  804. with me today we're going to actually

  805. close just by singing a song together a

  806. declaration that we already sang earlier

  807. and I simply just encourage you to join

  808. in with us and then on your way out

  809. again hopefully break the awkwardness

  810. telling you I'm telling you just just go

  811. up to people meet somebody before you

  812. leave here today would you pray with me

  813. today Father God we thank you that you

  814. designed us to be in relationship with

  815. one another that we don't have to go

  816. through life alone

  817. that there are others that are there to

  818. encourage us and lift us up and build us

  819. up we thank you for your church that we

  820. get to be a part of and I pray for the

  821. people in this room that do this really

  822. well I pray that you'd help them

  823. continue to do this well and even invite

  824. others into that Circle and those of us

  825. who are looking for

  826. relationship maybe we're desperate for

  827. somebody that we that can encourage us

  828. somebody that we can count on to pray

  829. for us I pray that you would bring

  830. Divine appointments even today that we

  831. would meet somebody that can that can be

  832. somebody to to lift us up during a

  833. difficult season God I pray that we

  834. would always continue just to be your

  835. church to do relationship with one

  836. another to Spur one another on toward

  837. love and Good Deeds just as your word

  838. says we thank you for it it's in Jesus

  839. name we pray amen
