Come on, it wasn't for nothing that you shed

your blood. So I'm going to live like my

shame is gone. I won't be shackled to the way I

was. So I'm going to live like my

chains are gone. Gone Now my stead is done and

gone, and I sing Hallelujah. Rising and it's done.

And I sing Hallelujah. Oh, praise is a weapon that will

overcome. So I'm going to shout like the

battles won. Yeah, fall back there because

your time is up. Oh, I'm going to live like the

storm is gone. Time now my sin is dead and gone

and I see Hallelujah. Time, time, he is rising, it is

done. And I sing Hallelujah.

Come on church, give them a shout of praise in the house.

That's right, man. Our sin, our shame is dead and

gone. When there's freedom in that,

then you can build your life on a God who loves you, who takes

your past and erases it. Your sin and shame is gone when

you walk. With him.

So come on, let's. Continue to worship him this

morning. Worthy of every soul we could

ever see. Worthy of all the praise we

could ever breathe. Worthy of every praise we could

ever breathe. Is there for you.

Beside opening up my eyes in wonder and show me who you are

with your heart and leave me in your love to those around me.

my life upon your head. It is effort, foundation and I

God, open up our eyes and wonder to see you for who you are, for

bear my shame. The cross has spoken, and I am

Jesus. Christ, my living world.

Hallelujah that has lost its grip on me.

You have broken every chain. There's salvation.

In. Your name, Jesus Christ, My name

is. Then came the morning that

sealed the Haram is when your buried body began to breathe,

and out of the silence the roaring lion declared, the grave

has no claim on me. If you believe it today, give

him a shout of graves. No grave and then?

Came the morning, that's you, the promise, because you're very

body begin to breathe. The end of the silence, the

Would you take a moment in your mind, Go back to that place

where his hope? Was fresh in your.

Life, that moment when you first saw him, when he first saw you,

you saw him take you from death to life, from old to brand new.

Go there in your mind, think about that great chasm that we

sang about that was separate. And I want you to just think

about how good he is and how boundless his grace, how good it

is. We'll give him some.

Hallelujah. Pray to only set me free.

Let's give it up to God this morning, man, I got I was

reading through Romans this week.

Man, that living hope is expressed through the words of

Paul. So there's neither Jew nor

Gentile. Man, we don't have a hope based

on who we've been as as a race. It doesn't matter what's in our

bank account, where we've been, what we've done.

Man, our living hope is based on the finished work of God.

Man, let's go to him in prayer this morning.

Just lift up his name. God, we just come before you.

God, we just honor you. We magnify you.

God, so many of us live in a in a world where hope is is given

falsely and then it's just torn away and destroyed.

But God, we look back to the living hope, man, we look back

to the cross, we look back to the gospel and you rule today on

the throne. And when you promises apply to

us as much as now as they did then, man, we look forward to a

time man, we're glorified with you.

We we live with you. We worship you.

We're honor you face to face and man, we just give you all the

honor and glory. God, we just worship you with

everything that we have, everything that we are.

And man, we pray this in Jesus name, Amen.

real life we are a church on a mission.

Can I get an Amen Amen. If you guys know what that is

that mission is to see people far from God discover their real

life and purpose in Jesus and we break this down for you real

simple. We believe the world just

destroys people week in and week out tears people down takes away

their meaning takes away their hope.

We talked about the living hope, right?

And God's put a calling on our life and the life of this church

to be on mission. And that is to that people that

get connected, you know, back to Jesus and find that meeting and

purpose. And so when people are broken,

we know that they have a community they can come and lean

on. And so my prayers is that if

that's you today, you walked in and you're broken and you don't

have any hope, maybe this is the community that God's going to

use just to get you connected back to him.

And so we're excited to see how God moves today and that

everything that we do flows out of that mission.

And so we're in the middle of something called at the movies.

And if you've never been at the movies here in real life, we're

almost done. We've got one more week after

this, but it's going to be something a little different.

Maybe you haven't experienced it.

And So what we do is we like to take some media, whether it's a

movie or a show, and we like to pull out a gospel theme and just

go back and run to the scriptures and say this is the

principle that God's talking about in this clip.

And we've been in the middle of the of the of the TV series

called Chosen. Maybe you've seen it, maybe you

haven't. And so in a minute, you're going

to get to see a clip and then Pastor Shawn's going to bring a

good word. So I want you guys just to relax

and here's what I'm going to ask from you.

How is God going to change your life today through the message

you're going to receive through the reading of God's word, allow

God to search your soul, love God to move you, shape you.

And then on top of that, maybe there's somebody that God puts

on your heart today to invite next week, somebody that you

know has has a whole they're lacking, you know, God in their

life and you'll have an opportunity to invite them.

So a lot of those two things just to to percolate in your

life. So relax, get ready for at the

movies. We're going to in a minute,

we're going to have popcorn, soda and a water come up free

charge. Take all you want.

And so you guys relax, have a good time, and let's put our

hands together for Pastor Sean as we go back to at the movies.

Good morning, guys. Oh man.

So first of all, is that workshop on fire today?

That was awesome. I noticed this was really either

hot up here. Really good because Holly and

Diane are both on the front row fanning themselves right now.

They said woo. It's hot up there, you know, Oh

man, but I'm excited. Before we jump in, let me brag

on what God did this week just a little bit for our kids camp.

So check out this first picture. These kids, we had 20 kids go

out to, we part up a summit park church, Summit Park, man, the

Summit church, there's different summits, all right, all sorts of

summits. But the Summit Church and these

kids did all sorts of fun stuff. You'll see archery, they had

crafts, they had a thing called nap time.

They did not nap. Then I'm like.

Asking kids, what does this mean?

It's like some kids, it's a secret, then some kids fold,

others wouldn't. But it was awesome.

So they got a chance to connect to check out this next picture.

Then all sorts of fun hanging out in groups and just learning

about Jesus worshipping. It was high energy, I'll tell

you that. But I want to thank this next

picture. I want to thank our leaders.

Lots of spiritual moments, but we had Tanya, Where's Tanya at?

Alyssa. I know she's in the she's

probably back kids. I don't know.

Was there any bells that came out all week or helped out a

little bit? Yeah.

OK. Besides, you all right?

But they came out there every day.

I mean, we drop off the kids at 7:45.

They're like, yeah, I'm like, man, there's nothing to be

excited about right now. You know, I'm just kidding.

It was fun. But Christy Hardy, she was out

there all. Week.

If you talked to her today, her voice is gone.

I said, are you sick or did you lose your voice?

And she said she is tired. It was she went to Columbia to

youth camp to the kids stuff. And so, but we're so thankful

for you, what you did and leading it.

And the, the kids had a great time.

You always make it way better. But I, I noticed in some of the

pictures she was in the back going like this.

I'm not 22, the average age of people serving like 19 to 20,

But it was a packed day. They're they're with the kids, I

think 9 hours a day. So that that's, that's the

extent. But anyway, give it up for our

kids one more time. Let them know we love them.

We'll present more later. So on 2 Sundays we're going to

do a camp Sunday. We're doing the the youth kit,

the teens and the kids and you'll hear everything about it.

So it's really good. So today is our 4th part of at

the movies. We're diving in.

It's really dedicated to those of us.

And I say us because there's probably a lot of us in this

camp that struggle with always being in control, that we

struggle with perfectionism, achievement, everything,

everything figured. Out, lined out.

Maybe even people pleasing a little bit I'd see people

nudging each other right now. So this give me some good news

for all of us. I'm in this camp as well.

This text, this passage we're going to walk through.

I think it's going to speak to you guys heart and so we're

going to jump in. This can be season 4, episode 5

of the. Chosen and it's called sitting,

serving and scheming. Check it out.

That's interesting. The horses love.

How was your opinion holding up? Especially the highest is

delayed, but we're managing. What's the going there for

Waters and Pruners? Why you need a job?

Yes. I'm disappointed.

I thought you were shrewd. I'm a gentleness man that you

are. That reminds me of a story.

Is everything all right, Martha? I'm fine.

System I've got a Kenny on. She's Please continue.

OK. The Kingdom of Heaven is like

the master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire

laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers

for Denarius Sede, he sent them into his vineyard.

You make it sound so simple. In going out about the third

hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace and to them

he said, you going to the vineyard too, and whatever is

right I will give you. So they went going out again

about the 6th hour and the 9th hour he did the same and about

the 11th hour he went out and found others standing.

He said to them, why'd you stand here idle all day?

They said to him, because no one has hired us.

He said to them, you go into the vineyard too.

When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his fore,

call the neighbors, pay them their wings, beginning with the

last up to the first. So when those hired at the 11th

hour, each of them received at the last.

Now when those hired first? Cable.

They thought they would receive more.

Each of them also received the numbers when they got it, they

grumbled the master of the house saying these last worked only

one hour and you've made them equal to us who've been here all

day in the scorching heat. To the Clyde friend, I'm doing

no wrong. You do not agree with me, for

Donatus people belongs to you. Go.

I choose to give to this last worker the same.

Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me?

Or do you begrudge my generosity so the last will be 1st and the

1st last? Where are we?

Hold on. The ones who worked the hour

were paid the full to naughty that's that's 12 times more than

what they were owed. Sounds to me like the owner of

the vineyard was getting cheated.

Is the Kingdom of heaven unjust? I get it.

I'm happy to be lost. Through earthly eyes, I suppose

it looks unfair. But I didn't say the Kingdom of

this world, I said of heaven. It's a different calculus.

But people are not measured by what they deserve.

Thank you, this looks delightful.

Would have been better if I didn't have to do it all alone.

Better. Yes, better, more befitting of

someone as important as you. It seems you didn't notice my

sister has left me to serve alone.

From the moment you got here, she hasn't done anything to

serve you. She's completely ignored

everything I've been doing to make all of you comfortable, and

it's clear that she's not going to notice how hard I'm working

on her own. The only thing that could change

it is if you tell her to help me.

Martha, Martha, please sit down here with me.

How can I sit? Only half your followers have

been served. We can discuss this later.

I'm sorry. I know, but I want others to

hear this. There's nothing to be

embarrassed about. You've done a wonderful thing.

You are anxious. I'm troubled about many things

and it is not for nothing. Hospitality will always matter

and I'm grateful for what you have done.

It's. What you deserve and more.

Your intention is well meaning, but only one thing is truly

necessary. The best way to serve me is to

pay close attention to my words. That is the priority.

That is what your sister has chosen.

It is a good portion and it will not be taken from her.

Taken. The food, the servings, they are

wonderful, but they'll pass away.

But the rest of this world, my words, they'll never pass away.

Mary has chosen to. If he's done something of

eternal value. I want you all to hear this

clearly. I do not rebuke Martha.

Acts of service are beautiful. Action is good.

You're doing what you thought was expected of you.

And what you do is valuable. And Mary, I probably could have

helped a little, but listen, I don't want you distracted from

being able to be present with me and the friends that I have

brought. I'm inviting you to something

that is better to sit at my feet, listen carefully to my

words, and devote flour the mass, a meal more nourishing

than pure food. That said, I definitely don't

want to waste Martha's amazing food.

So if you all got the lesson, let's all thank her and eat

I'll help you. What is that bright flavour in

the bread? I snuck a little bit of mint and

lemon into the dough. Brilliant.

All right. Who didn't get any?

You just had one. No, no, no, no, no.

Over here first. Over here first.

It was a small, small piece. I'll fight to the death.

I've been pushing the cart all day and I feel that.

Yeah, that story is pretty powerful.

It's super simple, but it's super powerful.

And you might ask, is that in the Bible?

And the answer is somebody said no, the answer is yes, it is in

the Bible. There's some parts obviously

made-up in the story, but that is the gist of the story.

And so if you got your Bibles, you're going to be in Luke

Luke 10:38

chapter 10, verse 38. You're going to find this story,

and it says this. It says as Jesus and disciples

were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named

Martha opened her. What?

What's it say? Yeah, she opened her home.

I want you to note that it's going to be important for later.

She opened her home to Jesus, and she and her sister, she had

a sister called Mary who sat at the Lord's feet.

Doing what? What's it say listening to what

he said? But Martha was distracted by all

the preparations that had to be made.

She came to him and asked, Lord, don't you care that my sister

has left me to do the work by myself?

Tell her to help me. She interrupted Jesus to remind

Jesus that there's other people not doing all the work and then

insisted and demanded that Jesus order her to help and then Jesus

response our love and kindness. Martha, Martha Lord answered,

you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are

needed or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better

and it will be not taken from here.

You guys pray with me today Father to come before you.

God, I pray you to teach us to sit at your feet.

God to show us that we're maybe too busy or too focused.

God, that we need to take a step back and walk with you.

God, for those of us that are focused on achievement or

perfectionism or or all this worry and everything being

perfect, God, just soften the heart.

God be with us today. God, show us your will.

God, show us your presence. God, give us your word and

praise in Jesus name and everybody said Amen.

Let me encourage you. What's not happening in this

story? Jesus is not rebuking Martha

because she is practicing hospitality.

Matter of fact, hospitality is found all over the Bible.

We're called to be hospitable. Actually, one of the

qualifications of a Deacon is a pastor.

It says they're fit, they're able, they're ready for

hospitality. There's a pastor.

As a leader, you're called to get your feet on people's

tables, to open your home, to invite people into your life.

You can't be reclused behind a gated community, be in the green

room, and to keep everybody at arm's length.

Amen. You're fit for hospitality.

Matter of fact, the Bible goes on by hospitality so far that it

says that we even have entertained angels unbeknownst

to us that we supposed to care for and and consider others

around us. So Jesus isn't rebuking her on

this, but this is an instance of doing good things and not doing

God things. This instance of staying busy

doing the work of God without being the work of God.

This is staying busy, all the good things in life and Martha

missed the rhythm of what it is to have a healthy soul, but what

it is to really be in the essence of Jesus.

In a lot of sense. You would have said, well, this

is messages for someone else. I'm awful busy doing God's work.

And so I want to walk through the context of this passage and

it's going to take a lot of the morning here, but I want to walk

through things so important. So the context is this is about

6 months out from the crucifixion.

They've been together for almost 2 1/2 years.

They're ministering at and around Jerusalem.

They're surrounding the area of the Gospel.

They're coming in out of town, they're in Judea.

Jesus had just sent out the 70 right before this.

They went out two by two. They found people of peace then

taking with them. They met in their homes.

They shared the gospel, just had an amazing message sharing the

Good Samaritan and they're busy. You can imagine the life of

Jesus isn't any less busy than ours.

He, he is going in and out. He's walking everywhere.

He's sharing the, the gospel he found time to do with his

father, but it was a busy time. They came to this place that

relaxed in Bethany. This, this is a place of kind of

a, a base camp for Jesus. They're meeting in this, this

home that's just outside the Mount of Olives.

It's about two miles away from Jerusalem.

And they would come in probably every day or a few times a week.

And they do minister at the temple.

They share the gospel. They'd be healing people, but

they'd go back to this base camp at this home and Bethany.

And this is the home you find here with Martha and Mary.

So the question I asked this morning is why did Jesus, we

read this? Why did Jesus pick this home to

be his base camp? Do you guys remember?

Because they opened their home, it wasn't anything crazy.

They, they, they simply welcomed Jesus, Amen.

There's a lot of people don't open their homes of Jesus.

There's a lot of people who never would do that.

But they, they actually opened the house and said, you know,

Jesus, you're welcome to stay here.

If you need a place to stay, my house is open.

Amen. That's a good thing.

You think about Jesus in the the miracle, the great miracle.

Turning water into wine was first great miracles.

He was at the wedding because he was invited.

Him and the salvage were invited.

That wedding became the first miracle.

And it's just something special about inviting and welcoming

Jesus. As far as I know, Jesus shows up

every time you invite and welcome into your life.

When you make time for him, he always meets with you.

Matter of fact, it says in Revelation chapter 2, he knocks

Revelation 2 · chapter mention

on the door. He's talking about Christian,

he's talking about the church he's knocking and it says he

wants to sit down with us and us with him and dine together.

Amen. I think Ada chose said this way.

Jesus, he is, he is, He waits to be wanted.

He waits to be wanted, like he's not going to steamroll through

your life. He could maybe a few times, but

he waits for you to invite him in.

Amen. He waits for us to patient and

say, Lord, I need you, Lord, show yourself to me.

Lord, I want to hear from you. God, I want to know you, and he

waits for us. And so the question this morning

is, have you had a spirit of inviting and welcoming Jesus

into your life? And oftentimes, at least in our

culture, we stay way too busy. We over commit.

We don't have time for Jesus. We don't read our Bibles, we

don't pray. I think the stat I saw last time

was 2% of Christians actually read their Bible.

And so for most of the time, we're just running through life.

And then we wondered, man, I don't feel like I'm connected to

God. God did not move.

We did, Amen. Like we got to get back into the

presence of Jesus. So in this passage, there's

three siblings. So we had Martha, Mary, and

who's the 3rd sibling? Anybody know?

Lazarus. Lazarus is the third sibling.

Jesus was a super close to this family.

Bible says that Jesus loved Lazarus.

But men I know this. Jesus actually says in the Bible

love Martha and Mary as well. The only thing about Lazarus I'm

just like huge spoiler, but Lazarus gets really sick, he

dies. Mary's pleading with Jesus that

he'd show up. He's not there, he doesn't heal

and he dies and Jesus shows up and they weep.

It's the shortest verse in the Bible.

Jesus wept. Now you got a verse memorized.

Amen, got it. And and Jesus moved to

compassion resurrects Lazarus because we come out of the grave

and it comes out of the grave and Martha and Mary are are

grateful and Mary goes on the Bible.

You may not know this, but she was on the Bible and takes one

of the most expensive perfumes she owns, probably worth a year

of wages and it's a special nard and she breaks at the feet of

Jesus. She washes his feet with her

hair and worship worships and anoints Jesus, the only

anointing Jesus would get before he died.

And this, this is the kind of love.

They're more than just a story that these were family, Amen.

There's a deep relationship. There's a deep connection.

And I think of the story, I think this is the kind of

relationship Jesus wants with us, Amen.

That we know him deeply. There would be this love

relationship. It wouldn't just be a religion

where we just show up to church on a Sunday or we have to, we

have to read our Bible. We have to do these things, we

have to all these pieces, but we actually walk with Jesus.

You have to understand how in depth they're in love with each

other. This family had means.

This is really interesting to open a home to all the disciples

and all the other people that would have been in with them,

all the plus ones. This had to be a pretty decent

sized house and to open their house, they would have some kind

of wealth to provide for the food and all the utilities and

all the beds and all the different things.

They had money, they had affluence.

And it brings up an interesting conversation because in our

culture, often times if you're wealthy, it's, it's seen as like

an evil. You, you must have done

something evil to earn your wealth.

And if you're poor, you must have been taken advantage of by

somebody who's wealthy. That's why you stay poor.

And this is, this is kind of the way it's like, it's like the

sinful wealthy and the victimized poor in Scripture.

It's, it's really interesting because God is not concerned as

much of what's in your hand as much as in your heart.

He's not concerned how much you own or the, the amount of

resources you're given or how big your, your wealth is your

assets. He's concerned about has the,

has that script into your heart. So the world would say that the

root of evil is money and say money is wrong.

And if you're wealthy, you must, it must be this way.

And there's all these things that people say, but that's how

the Bible says. The Bible says what the the love

of money, it's the greed. It's the love of money.

So when it slips from your hand into your heart, that is where

it's a problem. Amen.

Jesus is less concerned about what you have.

He's more concerned about what you do with what you have.

He's concerned what what you do with the things that God has

given you. And, and it's funny too,

ironically, you can have no money and still love money,

Amen. You can be greedy and selfish

and have nothing. And let's be honest, that's

majority of people. They, they don't have it, but

they're in love with it. And they kind of project that

everybody else, this family was wealthy and their mentality was

to steward the wealth that God had given them to, to host all

these disciples that, that that makes a messy house.

Amen. That that that is, it's chaotic,

that's outside the schedule. They could be doing anything

they wanted to, but they brought these people into their homes.

They had Murphy beds and food and all the different

commodities and things. They're trying to keep up.

They want to serve Jesus. There's a lot of wealthy

families in the Bible. You think of Joseph Amarthea,

you think of Nicodemus, you think of Susanna, you think of

Joanne, you think of Mary Magdalene, you think of Lydia

the cellar purple that would have starred the Church of

Philippi under under Paul. God used affluent people.

Amen, Amen. I mean, sometimes it's like, Oh

well, you know, and God uses all of us too.

I don't want you to get the idea just for the wealthy.

It's just special call that we all have to be a servant as

steward of what God has given us.

It's an exercise of faith. It's simply saying, Jesus, I

want your Kingdom come and your will be done.

I want to help fund your Kingdom.

Amen. So get the context.

These people had a huge heart to serve.

They wanted the will of God and the things of God to happen and

Martha was one of those people. Martha obviously was the the

party planner. Come on somebody.

She had the Pinterest board. She had the little name tags.

You see the bread in the video. I mean, come on somebody, right?

I mean, you know, they didn't bake that on the show.

Somebody put some shoe Polish on that bread, right?

I mean, maybe somebody that's excellent did something right.

But the reality is like that. That's just what she want

everything to be perfect. And Jesus showed up.

He had been tired. He he preached his soul out.

They would travel all day there and back and Martha's

distracted. That's what I says about Martha

and Luke 1040. But Martha was distracted by all

the, what preparations that had to be made.

She, she, she had set the standard like beyond excellence.

I mean, she, she was just over the top.

She was elaborate. She had everything ready.

She was trying to serve Jesus, but she actually missed Jesus in

an effort to serve the King of Kings.

She actually missed being with the King of Kings.

It was the trap that many people fall into, especially you step

in the ministry and you step in a leadership or you're walking

with God is to make the trap of doing the work of God without

being the work of God. We make the trap of all this can

get all this stuff done and yes, we did it.

Woo. But we spent no time with Jesus.

We, we, we forgot that the God is speaking to us as well.

Like Martha was like, that's a good message for the people in

the other room. I've got some stuff to do.

It's all the people that hang out.

I'm going to call them out today in the hub all morning and don't

come in. Amen.

Just going to say it. I'm just going to say it because

of the reality is like, that's just good enough for somebody

else. I've got some, I got to serve

out here. I've got some work to do.

I'm past that spiritually. I've got all figured out.

And just as a preacher, you're like, man, nobody's above this.

Like we need to hear the word of God.

I'm good. I've got it on my own in in

Martha's mind, the work was greater than his words.

The work, her work was greater than his words.

Amen. She she saw herself.

All my values. So great.

I don't even need to hear from Jesus.

Now think of Mary, the complete opposite.

Jesus preaching and teaching. And where was Mary?

Do you remember? Yeah, those feet.

Luke 1039. Mary, who sat at the Lord's

feet, listening to what he said. This idea is sitting at the

Lord's speech that sat at the Lord's feet.

That's actually a technical term.

Like we we read it and go like concrete, like she's at the feet

of Jesus. You know, she's got her legs

crossed and she's like this, right, Right.

That's not what it's saying. OK.

I mean, there's a technical sense to this.

Like like Paul sat at the feet of Gameliel, like he, he, he was

under the lead Pharisee, the lead leader, like he was being

taught by these people. It was a technical term used for

a disciple, A rabbi to a disciple.

When she sat at Jesus feet, it was saying, Jesus, you are my

rabbi and I'm your disciple. And when the rabbi teaches, the

disciple listens. Amen.

It's it's amazing. And this is, this is amazing

because this is shocking and it should be shocking, at least in

that culture of being extremely shocking, that Mary was a

disciple. You did not have women as

disciples in this time period, and they should have, but they

didn't. But this is what you think about

that culture in the Talmud when they, the Jewish law that they

supersede everything with. This is one of the refrains.

This is what they would chant. This is what they taught their

disciples. This is one of the prayers.

Blessed are you God of the universe who has not made me a

gentile, a slave or a woman. Could you imagine teaching that

to somebody? And so for Jesus to have a woman

as a disciple, it blew the lift off the culture.

There's no one of the refrains. They'd say it'd be better to

burn the Torah than to teach it to a woman.

Isn't that crazy that that there's a culture there in and

Jesus crossed all those lines, Amen.

And here's Mary, she's sitting at the feet of Jesus.

And Jesus, if you know anything about Jesus, he's always

welcoming, dignifying, equipping, encouraging,

commissioning, sending women everywhere he went.

Amen, Amen. I think the women sing that a

little louder, right? This is how Jesus did it.

He did. He had no partisan, male or

female, very kind of letting that verse earlier.

They're junior Greek, male or female, slave or free.

We're all one in Jesus. And Mary took all advantage of

this. You see her three times the

Bible, Luke 10 over to read in John 11, Matthew 23.

The three times you see Mary in the Bible, you know what she's

doing, she's sitting at the feet of Jesus.

Every time you see her in the Bible, she's at the feet of

Jesus. What an example, Amen, of what

it looks like to really get the essence of who God is and what

we should be about. Well, Martha, after slaving

away, she grew so irritated at Mary, she loses it.

She went Gordon Ramsay on her, you know, I mean, she lost her

frustration. And she points out to Jesus in

the middle of this message that, that, that that Mary should be

working. But instead I'm doing all the

work. How unfair.

And it's really your fault because you just tell her do it

and she'd do it. She's so frustrated.

You think about being under the same roof, but in a different

room that that's Martha, like, well, God's over there.

I kind of hear in the background.

I've got all figured out. I'm getting I'm so I'm getting

so irritated to be serving Jesus right now.

You know, she's looking at everybody else.

She's she's she's so conflicted because there's people are doing

less than she's doing. That is going to happen as a

leader. Amen.

You don't fix your eyes on people, fix eyes on Jesus.

She was close enough to see the fire, but she's too far away to

feel its warmth. Like she had ears to hear, but

her heart was absent. Like she heard the words of

Jesus, but her heart wasn't into it because she was she was above

it. She was too busy.

She was distracted by all these things.

And so today I want to do is encourage you guys.

It's easy to be distracted in our culture.

I mean, you got Facebook, TikTok, every app in the world

next to you version. Amen.

You see 6000 ads a day, That's one every 15 seconds.

You're always being sold something all the time.

I do a little research here that the studies show that our

attention span in this last year has dropped by half a second

further lower. So it makes it 8.5 seconds is

our average attention span as an adult United States.

And you compare that to a goldfish is 9 seconds, but

goldfish has more attention span than a human in America.

Come on somebody right? Like we live in the most

distracted time period. The average screen time for an

American is 4 1/2 to 7 hours a day.

It's just in front of a screen. So I want to help you with some

4 truths, how not to be distracted, but ultimately how

to get to the essence of having a healthy soul of Jesus.

Like what's the lesson that Jesus is truly teaching Martha?

Was he showing us so many four things?

Be a good time, take notes. If not, you're going to be

farther back in heaven. It's OK, all right.

Number one. Good things can keep you from

God things. Good things can keep you from

God things. Martha wasn't sinning by being

hospitable. She wasn't sinning.

She's not. It's not a sin to make bread.

It's not a sin to serve everybody.

Hospitality actually honors God. Excellence honors God.

Details on their God. She wasn't bad.

She was just busy. She was just busy.

She she had all this To Do List. And then when Jesus showed up,

she just said, oh, I'm gonna keep doing my To Do List instead

of saying no, I'm in the presence of God.

The most important place I can be right now in this moment is

at his feet. She focused her attention to

everything else. Eugene Patterson, he wrote the

message, which the message, you know, people kind of crack on it

because it's like, oh, it's not, you know, this type of

translation, this and the other, it's a lot like the chosen,

honestly, it's a form of art. Like Eugene Patterson, he's got

an incredible story we'll have time to give you.

But he, he had the time to actually just interpret the

Bible and just speak with the Holy Spirit saying to him, it's

really the form of art of his personal interpretation of, of

the Bible. And it's very challenging at

times. And he said this about Martha.

He said Martha had an appetizer and a dessert, but missed the

main course. That's a good way of saying it,

isn't it? We had all the things in the

world, but we actually missed the essence of why we're even

doing. She forgot why she was there.

And so we have to fight to keep the main thing, the main thing,

Amen. We have to remember why we do

this. We're not set up chairs, not put

up curtains. We're not just staying busy

doing our jobs. We're not just making money,

paying bills, surviving the day that we're here on mission for

Jesus, to worship Jesus, to love Jesus, and to show people the

light of the world. Number 2, When you focus on

others, you often leave yourself unattended.

You often leave yourself unattended.

And it's not that you shouldn't focus on others because you

really should, but if you focus too much on other people, you

leave yourself vulnerable because you're not taking care

of yourself. It's like when you get in the in

the in the plane, they say if the oxygen mask falls down, put

on everybody else and then yourself, right?

I mean, right, Like epoxy will set in it instantly, right?

Like you have to take care of yourself to a healthy level if

you're really going to serve. If you start serving others and

you're not spending time with Jesus, you will get burned out,

you will get bitter and you will quit.

Amen. I've seen it too many times.

There's a recipe that the devil even uses as you serve Jesus.

And so Martha was focused on Mary.

Isn't it amazing? Jesus talking about whatever

he's sharing in this story? We really don't know when you

read the Bible what he actually was sharing.

But instead of listening to Jesus, she was so focused on

Martha, not or Mary not helping out.

What's Mary doing? You saw the looks in the video

and she's just getting frustrated.

And she got so frustrated when she looked at other people.

I'm going to encourage you today.

If you stare at other people, you will be frustrated.

It will not take you very long to start saying, well, look what

they didn't do and look how they didn't measure up and look what

they didn't give and blah, blah, blah.

They didn't show up earlier. I was here.

You could compare yourself all the young people and you'll find

a way to get bitter really quickly.

We we serve Jesus, Amen. We we, we set up like we set up

for Jesus. We serve people are serving

Jesus. We don't we don't going to focus

on the people. So Mary, instead of sitting or

Martha says sitting and listening was upset of Mary who

was doing the right thing. And she accuses Jesus, not even

caring, you know, Jesus, if she listened to some of the stuff he

said earlier, she could apply this as we could too, right.

The sermon on the Mount, like be careful not to take the the

speck out of your brother's eye when you got a plank A2 by four

shoot out of yours. Instead, take out your two by 4

right? And then you can help to get

somebody's spec out. I mean, she was she was so

irritated at Mary's little speck, she forgot about her own

being. You can.

Here's the point, don't neglect yourself when you care for

others. Don't.

Don't serve on the dream team and not spend time with God.

Don't be a spiritual light to your family and a man of God, a

woman of God and do all the things of God but not actually

walk with God like we have to get in the presence of Jesus

every single day. He is your strength.

He's the one that sustains you. He makes you bold, He gives you

courage, He makes you steadfast. If you're not walking with

Jesus, you're on a dead end road.

You are you put an expiration date on yourself if you're not

walking with Jesus closely. I'll say it this way, running on

empty and being a workaholic even for God will burn you out

is not a badge of honor. Amen.

It is not a badge of honor to talk about how hard you work and

not walk with Jesus. It doesn't work that way #3 work

without worship makes you weary. Work without worship makes you

weary. It's kind of counterintuitive.

You can actually get more done slowing down and resting and

being with Jesus and actually the right things done.

It's about resting. We talk about Sabbath, we talk

about resting from from work. We're talking about slowing down

your schedule enough to actually spend quality time with Jesus.

We're talking about not filling up every day of your life with

stuff. Good stuff, awesome stuff, fun

stuff, sports, games, friends, all these things.

But do we spend time with Jesus? There's something

counterintuitive that we get something done.

Ecclesiastes 10/10 it says this way if the axe is dull and its

edge unsharpened, more what more strength is needed, but skill

will bring success. If you don't sharpen the axe,

you're going to take more effort to do the same thing.

And in the reality is we have to sharpen the axe of our souls.

Amen. We have to slow down and sharpen

the axe of our souls. If you don't rest, you will burn

out. You know, it's interesting about

rest. Jesus, it says he rested on the

7th day from creation. God Elohim, you know Jesus the

Creator, and it says he rested. This is before the law, this

before the prophets, this before New Testament.

God created in six days and then rested on the 7th.

Now how many guys think God was tired?

God didn't get tired. Amen.

God does not get weary. He's not tired.

That's a lot of work, making those stars as humans are going

to fail me, but I love him. He didn't.

He didn't. He didn't get tired.

He rested. It's a different type of rest.

It's a contemplative rest. It's a communal rest.

It's a consecration type of rest.

It's where you look back at the week and you go, man, that's

good. Wow, God, you deserve this.

Look what you did. I give you honor.

Thank you for this week or God help me this week.

That was a hard week. You commune, you spend time.

Jesus, God himself set this up for us, Amen.

Now most people, I talk about Sabbath, you guys are like, what

are you talking about? Are you for real right now?

I'm for real, Amen. It's not even a New Testament

principle. It is, but it was founded long

ago, before the days of creation.

We need to spend time with Jesus.

You could pick like a sundown to to a sundown, pick a day.

So I'm going to be intentional to find some spiritual habits.

I'm going to read my Bible, I'm going to pray.

I'm do stuff that fills my soul. It's not time off, it's time up.

OK, I'm not taking this. Just just watch TV and veg out

and take a day off work. That's what I'm asking to do.

I'm asking you to pull some time, some time up with Jesus

where you get your Bible, you get solitude, you pray, you

spend time with your family, you bite some loved ones over, you

share a meal like you, you do some spiritual things in life.

You just commune like Jesus said, I'll dine with you, dine

with Jesus one day a week, Amen. And if you come here on Sunday

and you're like, man, this preacher, I might feed my cup

and man, I'm getting burned out. I'm not learning from the Bible.

It's like feed yourself. Amen.

You have to feed yourself. There's a guy we were launching

our church and he was training me, said, man, all the babies

crying, they're hungry. Tell people to go make a

sandwich. You know, I mean, they expect a

lot from one meal a week, right? You have to get the habit of

walking with Jesus. There's an interesting rhythm

you find between anxiety and idolatry.

It's really interesting like like if you elevate the idols in

your life, if you elevate perfectionism, if you'll like

self help, if you elevate having to have everything perfect or

elevate people pleasing and making everybody happy.

If you elevate validation, like you just need to be needed.

Maybe it's your old man, maybe it's somebody in your life you

looked up to and you have to have them approve you and you

elevate all these other idols besides Jesus.

It always, every time elevate your anxiety every time.

There's a sick, direct correlation between the owls of

worship and the anxieties we face.

In worship, it is the way to break the chain.

Worship is the way to break the chain of those idols.

When you say, like, you go all the way back to Gideon and you

go back home and you tear down the Astra pole right in the

altar to bow and you go back home and you say, yeah, I'm no

longer going to worship the same things.

I'm going to worship God. You got to do some heart surgery

with Jesus. You got to, you got to stop

worshiping at the feet of other things.

You have to spend time to sit at the feet of Jesus, man, He is

good, Amen. His yoke is easy and his burden

is light. Like there's something special

about being the feet of Jesus. And so I encourage you guys to

take, take a Sabbath, spend time with Jesus.

Last thing #4 when you lose your why, you lose your way.

When you lose your why, you lose your way.

Martha didn't set out. She remember who why was or why

to serve Jesus. Jesus, my house is open.

Come on. This be great base camp if you

need it. Come on here.

I'll cook the meals all cleaned. I'll get everything going.

You do what you need to do, Lord.

I'll make it as easy as possible.

She doesn't serve Jesus. She wasn't trying to get bitter.

She wouldn't try to get burned out.

She wouldn't try to get angry. She wouldn't try to be mad or

said she wouldn't try to rub Jesus.

She wasn't trying to do all those things.

But she lost her. Why?

And here here's the reality. If your life is busy, like what

you do for God, you don't spend time with God.

You'll eventually act like your God.

Like if you don't spend time with God when you're doing life,

you will act like God yourself. She ordered Jesus to tell Mary

to start working. If you think about how dumb that

is, like he didn't know there's a problem.

I mean, Peter did this a few times.

No, Lord, I'll. Never let you die.

No Lord, this will never happen and and Jesus like get behind me

Satan, you have no idea what you're talking about.

It's so easy to get a spot your lives.

We start telling God what to do because it doesn't look like

what we want and and Martha is a picture in here that we need to

spend time with God. But if you don't, but we'll

always complain about the life we didn't have.

We get entitled, we get bitter, we get burned out, but I love

Jesus response. It's it's so special.

It it's just the heart of God his his response Martha Martha

like I love the idea in the video.

Didn't you like how how soft Jesus was and how loving Jesus

was if he didn't come down to her.

He gently encouraged her and and and showed her a better way and

it says it says in John 1115. Now Jesus loved Martha, Jesus

love Martha, and Jesus loves you, Amen.

And Jesus might be speaking to you and say your name, your

name, right? I could go around you.

You'll get offended if I start calling your names, right?

But but he can say your name and he's trying to teach you a

lesson. What good things in your life

are keeping you from God? Things.

What places are you sitting that aren't the feet of Jesus?

What what areas occupy your life?

What would it look like to have time with Jesus?

It would look like to say, you know what?

I don't have to get all this done When there's a presence of

God in the room, I'm gonna let that go.

I'm gonna spend time with Jesus. What would it look like?

I'm gonna go back. This is Matthew 11.

This is the words of Jesus. This is from Eugene Patterson.

He wrote the message talked about a minute ago and it just

just speaks. This is what it says.

Don't you just breathe this over you as we end this message

today. He says, are you tired?

Are you worn out? Burned out on religion?

Come to me. It's the words of Jesus and

Eugene Patterson's way. Get away with me and you'll

recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real

rest. That sounds good.

Walk with me. Work with me.

Watch how I do it. Learn.

Look at this. The unforced rhythms of grace.

That's good. Amen.

What does it look like to the unforced rhythms of grace?

It should be a natural part of our soul.

I won't lay anything heavy or I'll fitting on you.

Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and

lightly. Father, come before you.

Dave. God, we ask that we find

ourselves at your feet. God, we know your burden is

easy. Yoke is light.

And God, I pray you didn't move us today.

God call us by name to sit at your feet.

I'll speak to those who are Jesus followers across this room

and say, you know what? I need to get to the feet of

Jesus. I'm that person.

I've been busy, I've been distracted.

I'm a lot like Martha. I'm doing a lot of things for

God. I'm busy.

I forgot what it's like to sit down.

Just simply dine with Jesus. But he's calling me to sit with

him. He's calling me to a Sabbath.

He's called me to rest. I've got to do some things

differently. I recognize my life is not

balanced. My soul is unhealthy.

I spend time with Jesus. If that's you, just raise your

hand in his place. Say, that's me.

Put those hands up high, Jesus sees them, and slow down and

rest with Jesus. Jesus, you see the hands of the

hearts. You know exactly what's going

on. God, call us in those sacred

places. Lead us, God, to spend time with

you. Teach us the sacred habit of

slowing down solitude of rest, of contemplation, of

consecration, God, those deeper areas of our life, God in our

hearts that we we try to fill with perfectionism and doing and

measuring up and validation and achievement.

But God, just do something, our soul, God, only you can do.

God. Teach us that it's not many

things, but indeed it's only just one thing, that it's enough

to do one thing. It's enough to be at your feet.

Help us to get fed by you, God. We desire you, God, you don't

have to wait anymore, God, because we want you right now.

We're going to dine with you. I'll pray for one more group

people. That's those you say, you know

what? Today I recognize that this God,

this Jesus is so much different than I thought.

I recognize that Jesus died so I can actually have a relationship

with him. Maybe for you it is news, it is

brand new news that God will love us as humans, so much like

Martha and Mary and Lazarus that he weep for us.

He wants to show us a better way.

He's not an absent God, a distant God.

He's not a dead God. He is alive and active and he

wants a relationship with you. Today.

You may feel something today that's the Holy Spirit just

drawing to himself, convicting you of sin, showing you a better

path where Jesus name is the Lord of your life.

The Bible says that Jesus came 2000 years ago.

He's the Son of God, perfect in every way, and he came as a

substitute for a sin and he died on the cross and he made a way

for us back to God. He bridged the gap of our sin

that we could never pay. All says in Romans 65 that when

we're yet helpless, Christ died for us, and so we could do

nothing in a million lifetimes to earn a way to God.

Jesus died for us so we could simply know Him.

So today if you need Jesus, you're going to confess your

sin. I'm a Sinner, needed a savior?

You want to walk out of here with a relationship with the

Lord of Lords, the King of kings, the One who rules it all

and owns all. He wants to know you today.

Be forgiven today Have a new name.

Today be changed today. If you need Jesus today, He will

meet with you. The Bible says the day of the

day of salvation and that anyone and everyone that calls the name

of Jesus will be saved and forgiven and made new.

And so if you need Jesus today, this invitation is for you.

Am I going to make it weird or awkward or something to call you

out? But I still want to invite you

if you need Jesus, we just raise your hand behind this place for

today because I need Jesus relationship with Christ today.

I need a new name. I need you forgiven.

My life is a full of myself and he's be full of God.

If that's you, just pray this prayer.

The prayer does not save you. It's just your heart towards

him, your confession, your brokenness.

Say, Father God, thanks so much for loving enough to send Jesus

to die on a cross. Then you'd love me when I was

unlovable, when I was at my worst.

God, you're at your best. God, you care for me.

You see me. You know me by name.

You've been with me this entire time.

God, I can see it. I don't want to serve you.

I don't get too busy. I always sit at your feet.

God thank you for loving enough. God you can have my life.

I surrender you. God, I trust you in every way.

God take my sin. God, you know every one of them,

replace them with your grace. God, I don't want to be in that

rhythm of grace today. I pray that in Jesus name that

you have said, hey man, give some worship to Jesus, Amen.

Love know you love him today. It's such a good reminder in

that line that if we lose our why we lose our way and just

drawing us back to the feet of Jesus this morning, and maybe

that's you. You had that stirring.

You were drawn to the feet of Jesus for the first time this

morning and you prayed that prayer and accepted Jesus.

You committed your life to him. We are so excited for you.

We would love to walk alongside you to help you and support you

as you start your journey with Jesus.

youth group, the teens shared kind of did a reflection of camp

from the week before and they all shared their one word and,

and it was amazing just the depth and the honesty from these

teens. They had words like forgiveness,

change, focus, bold, and you could just sense God's during

something in that next generation.

And then last week, all week long, we had about 20 kids from

real life go to kids camp and it was amazing.

They had a blast. They had so much just fun in

general that made new friends. But ultimately they learned that

God is their one true friend and and it is so incredible to see

how God moves in those ways. And then today Sean shared about

Mary and Martha and the story about them and they were women

who were well off, but they use their home.

They open their home and use their resources to support the

ministry of Jesus. And their home honestly became

kind of like a base camp as Jesus was in Judea.

And it's so much more than just wealth.

It really is about generosity. So many other people in that

time too gave of what they had to support Jesus ministry.

And that's because it's more generosity is more than just

what's in your hand, but it really is a posture of your

heart. And so I want to ask just a

couple of questions. Do you love money or do you

steward it for the Kingdom of God?

Do you hold money in your hand or has it crept into your heart?

And this is something we all struggle with, but we believe if

we get this right, that God is going to do something massive in

our city. And we see real life church kind

of as a base camp for our city and beyond as a launching point

for the ministry for the work of God.

And that takes all of us seeing money not just as something that

we hold tight in our hand, but really as a who we can release

to the Kingdom of God. We see 10s of thousands of lives

transformed by Jesus, but it takes all of us even right now,

getting our relationship with money in the right place.

And so I invite you to give today.

Man, were you guys blessed today, man, if you guys were

Here's my challenge and I talked to you about it in in earlier.

If you're an extrovert, this is another reason for you to talk

to somebody, right? This is goes for everybody, man,

Gods put somebody on your heart. I guarantee it if you if you're

honest with him that you need to invite this week and somebody

that needs some encouragement, somebody that needs some love,

somebody that needs some hope and some purpose.

Take this card, take five of them and take them all.

I don't care and just do what God asked you to do in this

moment and give it to somebody that needs it.
