God Our Savior Is Jesus Christ||John 1:1-3 Study Pt 1

I am evangelist Toby Doubtit.

I am back with another teaching video.

Today we're going to talk about a topic that is heavily controversial across all cult religions.

And yes, I do say cult religions because most of them have devised their own Bible in order to refute what we're talking about today.

Unfortunately, even in the body of Christ, those who are claiming to be Christ's believers, Christ's followers, are also heavily in confusion about the position of who Jesus Christ really was.

And I will say this tonight: if we are going to believe in Christ as our Savior, then we have to be secure biblically in who the Bible says he was.

I want to start off in this topic tonight by looking at John chapter 1.

We're going to break down the whole chapter of John chapter 1.

And I can tell you right off the rip, it starts off with this controversial topic.

And as you all know, you have different accounts in the four gospels of Matthew, Luke, Mark, and John that give different sides and depictions of who Jesus was.

Now, when you read the whole book of John, you will see that John is looking at Jesus in the way that we are getting ready to explore and talk about him tonight.

There's plenty of biblical scripture that um happens to confirm who Jesus is.

And it's unfortunate that you see people who deny this very fact in the Bible.

So without further ado, let's get go ahead and jump on into it.

And uh, I just want to thank before I get started, everyone who uh participated and watched the first video that I put out.

I'm so thankful.

Um, God is is great, He is good at who He is, and He says that if we are good over the few, He will make us ruler over many.

And I just want to thank you guys tonight, even the one who responded, Rosie, uh, with a the first comment to that video.

Uh, I mentioned before in the last video, I do use an amplified Bible, so I just want to make sure that that is known.

This is the amplified Bible that I currently have right now.

But if you don't have one, you can go to BibleGateway.com.

It is a free uh Bible app that you can go online and look at.

They have many different versions.

I would prefer that you go and highly suggest to get the AMP version, which is the version that I have right here physically that I will be reading from tonight, so that we can be on the same page.

Uh, I heavily suggest this Bible.

The reason why is because it already does a good job in my mind and helping us already fill in the blanks to the Hebrew and Aramic texts that are in the Old Testament as well as the Greek texts in the New Testament.

Uh, I've been reading and studying this Bible a long time, and know I'm not professed to be a Hebrew, Aramic, and Greek scholar.

Uh, I don't dabble in that a whole lot at all.

But what I can tell you is that God has helped me to study this Bible enough uh and have heard so many different teachers that have used uh Hebrew and Aramic words that line up with what this Bible already talks about for you to help get you past some of the Hebrew, Aramic, and Greek headaches that you will have.

Because, yes, you can go and look up Hebrew and Greek and Aramic words, but guess what?

So many people have their own developed translation of what that one word might mean, that they can still mislead you, okay, in this word.

So that's why I have this Bible, uh, great Bible.

I had one back in the day.

I I picked it back up again about two years ago, uh, and have been studying through it from beginning to end.

I'm on my second time studying through it as a matter of fact, uh, and it gets more wonderful with the Holy Spirit uh at the same time.

With that being said, make no mistake about it.

Regardless of what Bible you have, you do have to have the guidance of the Holy Spirit because the Bible says Jesus told us that when he left, he would send us not only a comforter, but someone to guide us into all truth.

And the Holy Spirit has to help you as a partner to guide you through understanding what the scriptures are saying, how to be able to line up the Bible the way that it was intended to be lined up.

And we're going to be looking through a lot of scriptures tonight.

So, you guys, please go and do your due diligence to take notes on these things.

You can always go back, watch these things again, uh, to really understand.

But I'm gonna try to go as slow as I can through these first five verses in John because we have a lot of scriptural backing that we're gonna need uh in order to be able to securely believe in the foundation on who Jesus Christ is.

So let's get ready to go.

Um, we're going in the book of John tonight.

I'm gonna be reading from the book of John, the very first chapter.

And if you notice in the Amplified Bible, it already gives you a title of where this is going in the first five verses.

It's called the Deity of Jesus Christ.

So, with that being said, let's get to reading.

In the beginning before all time was the word Christ.

Now, the Amplified Bible already tells you that the word is Christ.

Okay, and the word was what with God, and here's the controversial and the word was God Himself.

Now we're gonna stop right there because this gets a lot of people going and not in the right direction, unfortunately.

I've seen Bibles that have been created to refute this.

There's been versions out there that have been created that says that Jesus was a God, but not God Himself.

Okay, like I told you about the book of John, there's many times where Jesus proved to us that he is not only Jesus Christ, but he is God Himself.

He says it many times that I and the Father of one.

Nobody has seen God, but if you have seen me, then you have seen the Father.

Okay?

He also goes on to tell us that no one can get to the Father but through me, and vice versa.

No one can get to him unless the Father draws them.

So it should be a privilege tonight to know that if you've been drawn to the Father and Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit, that you are in a great position tonight, and this is why it already starts off letting us know that not only was he with God before time ever began, the Bible says that he is God himself, he came as God in the flesh.

So, with that being said, I want to go over to the book of Philippians.

I'm gonna look at Philippians chapter 2.

I'm gonna say this.

I'm gonna look at Philippians chapter 2, and we're gonna go over here.

I always tell you guys the biblical secret is to always cross-check what you are reading with the epistles of the apostle Paul.

And the reason why I always suggest this is because Jesus Christ, our ascended Lord tonight, who is seated at the right hand of the Father, gave us these epistles, these writings through the Apostle Paul, so that we can have more clarity on the things from the scriptures from Genesis all the way to Revelations, and we do not have to live in the land of deceit.

Okay?

We do not have to live in the land of deceit as long as we get these understanding of the epistles of the Apostle Paul that Jesus, our sinned Lord, gave him all of these revelations.

So let's go to Philippians chapter 2.

And I want to look at I would like to take a look at verses here 5 through 11.

Because here the Apostle Paul is going to give us an even clearer picture of what we saw in John chapter 1, verses 1.

I already told you that it was going to start off powerful from the beginning.

Okay, now there's many other directions I could have gone.

I could have gone to Genesis chapter 1, 1, where it also talks about in the beginning God.

But I decided not to do that tonight due to the simple fact that so many people really confuse that, Genesis chapter 1, 1, and so many people will refute that.

And so I want to get into the obvious portions of who Jesus Christ is tonight.

Now, like I said, I'm going to um slow it down.

I'm going to try not to uh teach too long so that you guys can grasp it section by section.

So we may not get to all five verses tonight.

Okay, because I want to make sure that this is understand and that we get through these scriptures so that we can build, begin to build a solid foundation on who we believe in.

So let's go.

Let's look at verse 5 first, Philippians chapter 2.

And it reads, have the same attitude in yourselves, which was in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Look to him as your example in selfless humility.

Now that is a teaching all within itself, but we're not going to touch that tonight.

Verse 6, who although, watch this, he existed in the form and unchanging essence of God.

Who?

He existed in the form and the changing, unchanging essence of God.

Remember, I told you that Jesus said that him and God the Father are one.

And we have the apostle Paul confirming that right here through the scriptures, as one with him, possessing, look at this, the fullness of all the divine attributes.

Whatever divine attributes that God has, and we're going to see one of them that he is sovereign.

Which means there is nothing that can be out of place before God already knows the move that is already being made.

Okay.

There's no move that can be made that God does not know of and not aware of because at all, regardless whether you try to abort God's divine nature, you can't do it.

You might not want to go to the store.

But the next day you find yourself subconsciously still going to the store that you didn't want to go to the day before.

That means that it was in God's divine for you to go to that very store.

Even though you tried to avoid going.

That's what God's sovereignty is.

Nothing can thart it.

Okay?

Now, so it says, He is the unchanging essence of God as one.

Look at this, with him possessing the fullness of all, not some, of God the Father's divine attributes, but all of them.

The entire nature of what?

Deity.

And the first verse that we started was from, and what I told you that the Amplified Bible said, it is talking about the deity of Jesus Christ.

And we're seeing it right here, telling us more about who Jesus was.

Now let's keep going.

The entire nature of deity did not regard equality with God, a thing to be grasped or asserted as if he did not already possess it.

So he could have easily, when he came into this world, said that he was God.

Although he did give us many topics and many situations where he did, and he upset people when he did do that.

But yet he didn't use it as a platform of a bragging source to compare himself in equality.

And there was a reason for that because he needed to become, as the Bible told us, even lower than the angels in humility and humbleness so that he could go to the cross and not be stubborn to do so.

Okay, now we saw the human side of Jesus when he goes up to pray and asks the cup to be removed.

That's the human side of him.

But he understood that God's divine calling on his life, he had to do this for all mankind.

Alright, so let's keep going.

So he did not see it to be grasped or asserted as if he did not already possess it.

He already possessed it.

Now there were some human limitations in him possessing it because we know eventually he had to die, which someone of immortality does not do.

Okay, or was afraid of losing it.

Verse 7, but emptied himself.

Look at this, without renouncing or diminishing his deity, but only temporarily, giving up the outward expression of divine equality and his rightful dignity.

Watch this by assuming the form of a bond servant and being made in the likeness of men, he became completely human.

See this, but was without sin, being fully God and fully man.

Verse 8, after he was found in terms of his outward appearance as a man for a divinely appointed time, he humbled himself, he became lower than the angels, still further by becoming obedient, which we just talked about to the Father, to the point of death, even death on the Christ, for this reason.

Verse 9.

Also because he obeyed and so completely humbled himself.

Now you see the continuous mentioning of the word humbled.

Okay, now make no mistake about it.

Jesus knew that he was God in every sense, and I know there were times it had to be hard for him, especially with the opposition that he faced coming on his earth.

Okay, but yet he humbled himself so that he could be obedient to the Father's divine calling and go to the cross on our behalf.

Now let's keep going.

God has highly, look at this, exalted him and bestowed him on him the name which is above all every name.

And how he's become exalted now.

Because after his death, the Holy Spirit resurrected him from the dead.

This is the reason why we receive the Holy Spirit upon our call to salvation tonight, ladies and gentlemen.

Because the same self-Holy Spirit that raised him is our hope now that we can also, if we should die before the Lord comes, be raised from the dead.

Okay, now let's keep going.

Okay, his name is above all names.

Verse 10.

So that watch this at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow in submission of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth.

And watch this verse 11.

And that every tongue will confess and openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord.

What did I say about this word?

Sovereign God.

And we spoke about that briefly.

To the glory of the of God the Father.

Everything God the Father is, ladies and gentlemen, Jesus Christ is.

Now, let's go back to John chapter 1.

Let's go back to John chapter 1.

Probably going to do uh 30 minutes here, and we'll probably have to stop.

Because I, like I said, I don't want to get too far before we can really get deep down and understanding this thing.

But we see that Jesus was not only with God, the Bible says that he was God himself.

Jesus kept confirming this and he upset people with it, just like people get upset today.

But the truth of the matter is, ladies and gentlemen, this is the very nature of who Jesus was and still is tonight.

Now he has full power in an immortal body, such as we have hoped to have one day as well.

Now, verse 2.

This is probably all we'll do is get to verse 2 and 3 tonight.

Alright, verse 2, it says, He was continually existing in the beginning.

Watch this word that people don't like, co-eternally with God.

God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost, ladies and gentlemen, are co-eternal.

They coexist, they're co-equal.

Yet, although they have distinct jobs, now I always like to denote it as this Jesus speaks it, which we saw in John 1, that he was the word, and that's what the word means to communicate.

God approves it, the Father, and the Holy Spirit puts in the work, calling the manifestation of what was approved of and spoken of.

Okay?

That's how I always like to look at it.

But they are all three.

There's some parts in the scriptures that call them the determinate counsel.

There were some things that they talked about that the sons of God, the angels, weren't invited to.

And one of them they weren't invited to was the secrecy of Jesus going to the cross in the first place to restore what Adam calls pain toward.

Adam brought sin and death into the world.

The secret was that Jesus was going to go to that cross and not only go to the cross and die for us, he would be raised from the dead to put bring restoration not only to our reconciliation in God, but to give us hope in bodies of immortality where we did not have to die, such as was the original plan.

But this is why God kept this a secret since before the beginning of time until the right time to be revealed.

Okay?

Now, so it says, verse 2, he was continually existing in the beginning, co-eternally with God.

He didn't just come on the scene, he didn't just become a created being, such as most people try to denote him as being.

The reason why is because Jesus wants us to know if that he was the one talking in that burning bush to Moses.

I want y'all to let that sink in for a minute.

When he told them, when Moses says, Who should I tell them I am?

That you are, excuse me.

He says, Tell them I am, that I am.

Jesus continues to confirm that throughout the book of John.

I am the truth, the way, and the life.

I am the door.

I am the good shepherd.

You see that?

Alright, so now verse 3.

All things were made and came into what?

Existence through him, and without him, not even one thing was made that has come into being.

Nothing was created without Jesus.

And when we get over here to Colossians, which is probably the place we're probably going to stop tonight in Colossians chapter 1, verses 15 through 18, where the apostle Paul is confirming this through these revelations that he was given to, given, that was given to him by our sinned Lord Jesus Christ.

So let's get on into the book of Colossians, and that's probably where we will stop tonight.

And uh, like I said, I want to break these things up so that we're not going too far and helping your understanding tonight.

Watch this.

It says here Colossians chapter 1, starting in verse 15.

Watch what it says.

He, Christ, that is, is the exact living image, the essential manifestation of the unseen God.

Look at that.

The visible representation of the what?

Invisible.

What did you say?

If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.

Now, here goes the apostle Paul once again, confirming what he also wrote in Philippians chapter 2.

Jesus could have easily kept calling himself equal to God the Father, but yet he chose not to make that a bragging point so that he could become humble and even lower than the angels in order to be obedient to go to the cross and die on our behalf.

Alright, now let's keep going.

So he is the representation of the invisible God, the firstborn, the preemption.

Eminent one, the sovereign and the originator of all creation.

Now we're gonna come back to verse 15 and address the firstborn issue.

Because, ladies and gentlemen, it is an issue.

Okay, and I'm gonna talk about that in a minute.

For by him, look at this, the same confirmation that we're getting in two and three in John.

For by him all things were created in heaven and on earth, things visible and what?

Invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities, all things were created and existed, look at this, through him, that is, by his activity and for him.

Verse 17.

And he himself, look at this, existed and is before all things in him, all things hold together, confirming what we just saw in John 1, all the way from now, verses 1 through 3.

His is the controlling, look at this cohesive force of the universe.

Now imagine this.

As we saw in John chapter 1, without Jesus, nothing holds together, ladies and gentlemen.

For the stars to hold in place, for the sun to hold in place, for the moon to hold in place.

Guess who is keeping all those things holding in place?

It is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ tonight.

Verse 18, he is, look at this, also the head, the life source, and leader of the body, which is the body of Christ.

Because of him, we now have hope that if we should die before the Lord returns, and I'm not talking about his second coming, because that's a whole nother topic within itself, too.

Then we shall, because the Holy Spirit that we received upon our salvation will raise us from the dead, and we will have bodies such as Jesus Christ, which Jesus is the head of.

Okay, by becoming the firstborn of all corrupted everything in the earth.

Now I could go to Romans chapter 8, and we could talk about how the earth and all that are in it grown tonight.

The animals, all of that, because what do they do?

They die in corruption.

But Jesus gave hope.

And the Bible says that all creation is awaiting on God's children to come through those clouds to confirm that death and sin have been lifted off the earth.

Okay?

Now, you don't believe me?

Let's go here to 1 Corinthians chapter 15.

And then I think we're gonna stop right there.

Now calls Jesus the first fruit.

He is the first of the first fruit.

Okay.

So let's go to First Corinthians 15, and we're gonna start at verse 19 and end in 23, and we're gonna stop right there.

So let's go.

It says here if we who are abiding in Christ have hoped only in this life, and this is all there is, then we are all, then we are of all people most miserable and to be pitied.

If nothing that happened to Christ was true, this is what the apostle Paul is talking about, about his death, his burial, resurrection, then we are a hopeless group tonight.

Everything that we talk about is vanity.

Okay, so let's keep going.

Verse 20, watch this.

But now as things really are, look at this.

Christ has in fact been raised from the dead.

This is a biblical fact, the apostle Paul is saying, you can dispute it all you want to.

And he, watch this, became the first fruits.

That is the first to be, look at this, resurrected with an incorruptible, immortal body.

This is what being the firstborn of the dead is.

Christ is the first one to be raised in a body of immortality, giving hope to all creation tonight.

What the book of Romans, chapter 8, speaks of.

That hope that we have in all creation is awaiting for the revealing of God's children, so that that would signal that death and sin have finally been given victory over.

Alright?

Now, and that's all it means, ladies and gentlemen, to be the firstborn of the dead, the firstborn, the preeminent one.

Okay, now foreshadowing, look at this, the resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in death, continuing to drive home the fact that he is our hope.

Verse 21, for since it was by a man that death came into the world, Adam, that is, it is also by a man, Jesus Christ, that the resurrection of the dead has come.

Hope is here.

Hope is here because of what Jesus Christ did at that cross.

Verse 22, for just as in Adam, now he mentions his name, all die.

So also in Christ all will be made alive.

Verse 23, but each in his own order, Christ the first fruits.

It was important for Christ to be the first one, but he wasn't the only one of the first fruits.

Now that's another teaching that I will teach about.

We're gonna get to it, okay.

But tonight, ladies and gentlemen, I'm emphasizing that firstborn does not mean literally God's first creation of all creation.

He was here before time.

He's the one who spoke everything out of eternity in time.

Okay.

Now, so verse 23, and we'll start right here.

But each in his own order, Christ the first fruits, then those who are Christ's own will be resurrected with incorruptible immortal bodies at his coming.

We're gonna stop right there.

But when I come back, we're gonna go and finish from John 2 and 3, and we're gonna hit 2 Colossians.

Uh hit the book of Colossians again, chapter 2, verses 8 and 9.
