God’s Wrath||The Day Of The Lord And The Church||Philippians 1:6 amplified study Pt 2

What is going on, my beloved brethren and sisters in Christ?

This again is Evangelist Toby Thouted.

And uh, we've been studying the first chapter of Philippians chapter 1, and the whole goal is to get through all four chapters in this spiritually mature letter that the apostle Paul sent and wrote to the churches and Philippi.

Philippians 1 · chapter mention

Uh, from unfortunately, he's in prison at this point.

There's at least, I believe, four epistles that he wrote from behind the prison cells.

Uh, this is one of them.

I believe the book of Colossians, the book of Ephesians, and the book of Philemon, if I'm not mistaken, are all four letters that are written while the apostle Paul was indeed in prison.

And these are very powerful letters.

These letters that I mentioned to you, they are they have a lot of spiritually mature wording in them, uh, as opposed to some of the other letters to the churches in Galatea, uh, the churches in Corinth, the churches in Roman.

Um although they have some deep meat in those letters, they are not as deep from a spiritual standpoint, in my opinion, as these four letters that I mentioned: Colossians, Ephesians, Philemon, and uh the book of Philippians, which we are currently in right now.

You're gonna see some of that mature writing in here.

Uh, like I said before, this is the only church, these churches in Philippi that the apostle Paul did not have to address the issue of sexual immorality.

Let that sink in for a minute.

The only issue that we will find as we study through here is that there were two women that were bickering and uh uh back and forth about some things that he had to address, but that's minor considering the other things that he had to address in many of these letters, especially to the churches in Corinth.

They had a lot of deep-seated carnal issues that needed to be worked through.

Now, as you get to the second book in Corinthians, you'll see that they started to mature a little bit more.

Uh, but when that that first book, boy, they it was rough.

It was rough.

The apostle Paul had to get on them constantly uh about things that they were doing disorderly within the church, and he had to keep getting on them, how they were getting arrogant because they were flowing in the spiritual gifts that were given by the Holy Spirit.

Uh, they were so arrogant to the point that they were ignoring obvious big huge sins that were right up under their nose and they weren't addressing it.

And uh those things were very serious that they were not attacking within the congregation.

And don't we have those issues today?

Uh so many pastors are more concerned about the group numbers, and they're unable to tend properly to the sheep.

Now, not that the sheep would actually like that, because there are things that they do while they pose as church people.

You know, the Bible, the apostle Paul spoke it himself, they give an outward appearance of godliness, but their inside is wrecked, and they don't want those things to be discovered while they're on in church service on Sunday praising the Lord.

On Saturday night, they're hanging in the club.

On Saturday night, they're watching.

I don't even want to say, but you know what I'm talking about.

You know, uh, just don't let your mind stay there too long because I don't want to get you in trouble with doing something you're not supposed to be doing.

But you see where I'm getting at.

But as we're looking at this group of uh people in Philippi, we've read through the first six verses, and I stopped at verse six for a reason.

We saw how eager this group of the Bible calls it severely in poverty.

They were severely in poverty, okay?

Yet out of their deep poverty and their extreme persecution that they were going through, they were still eager to help others.

They weren't as concerned about themselves.

Not only were they eager to help others, the apostle Paul said most importantly, before any of that, because none of that would count if they did not receive openly and welcomely the salvation call of Jesus Christ through the Apostle Paul and the others that were laboring in the Word with the Apostle.

Okay.

Now, we get in here in the book of Philippians, we see that he addresses more than just one bishop or overseer, he addresses more than just one deacon because churches were established back then in people's homes, especially Gentile churches.

Now, I explained a little bit briefly about who a gentile was.

A gentile is someone who is not a Jew.

And these are the people that the Apostle Paul, although he was a Jew, he was assigned to by our resurrected Lord Jesus Christ.

You can see that back over there in Acts chapter 9, verse 15, to go to the Gentile nations.

Now, we see one experience where Peter was sent as a precursor for what God was getting ready to do in this apostle, uh, who was a former persecutor of the Jewish church, the apostle Paul, who was known as Saul at first.

Okay, similarly to the Saul that we know of as King Saul in the Old Testament in the book of Samuel.

But nonetheless, Peter was doing a precursor of what God was getting ready to introduce as he was going to send someone to the Gentile nations.

It wasn't going to be Peter and the other apostles, but it was going to be an induct introduction through Peter to see what new thing God was getting ready to do.

And God had done that thing through the apostle Paul and these Gentile churches who were not Jews, okay, uh, they were indeed Gentiles, and you can read all throughout the Old Testament the type of lifestyles that Gentiles lived, and it wasn't a good one.

And the Bible tells us that they were once without God, okay, in the world, and that's a dangerous place to be.

But now thanks be to Jesus going to the cross.

Tells us this in Ephesians chapter 2, verses 11 through 13, that because Jesus going to the cross and his blood being shed now has brought Gentiles near to God, such as the Jews.

Ephesians 2:11–13

Where once the Jews had uh an advantage at one time, the apostle Paul tells us they no longer have that advantage anymore because now the word, this completed word, okay, has now been brought to the Gentile nations, and it is this word that we as Gentiles enjoy today.

Yes, uh, is there neither Jew nor Greek?

Yes, that is true, but it is only true when the salvation call has been answered, and that is the gospel of believing and confessing with our mouths that Jesus had died for our sins, was buried, and rose from the dead on the third day, according to scriptures.

1 Corinthians 15, 1 through 4, and Romans uh chapter 10, verses I believe 9 through 10 tells us this, okay?

We make that public confession, and we not only make that public confession, we walk in alignment in obedience to that confession.

The apostle Paul tells us those who walk in obedience to God are children of God, okay?

Not those who claim to be uh children of God, but their obedience and their walk is still living in the world of darkness.

Okay, so I just wanted to shed that out there.

But the apostle Paul is commending these people in Philippi for their contributions, even though they didn't have a lot, for their partnership and fellowship and joining and advancing the good news, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is believing on his death, burial, and resurrection.

Okay, and it is because of those things you get to verse, I believe, verse six now.

So let's go ahead and get to verse six.

And I am reading from an amplified Bible.

Um, you know, but if you have your own Bible that you're comfortable with, then go for it.

Uh, but if you want to join me with the Amplified Bible, and you don't currently have one physically in your possession, such as I have right here, you can go on Bible Gateway.

They have an AMP edition, which I also have physically, and I'm reading from today.

Okay, so because of their partnership and their comforting fellowship and gracious contributions, the apostle Paul is now led to say in verse 6, I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a good work in you will continue to perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus, the time of his return.

Now, there's a reason why I stop right there.

Because when you get to that last part, the apostle Paul says that he is confident that the work will be continued and perfected and completed until the day of Christ Jesus, the time of his return.

Now, that is very important because the apostle Paul does not just mention this just to the church, churches in Philippi, he mentions this again in the first chapter, if I'm not mistaken, to the churches in Corinth.

And so we're gonna go there right now.

And I want to explain something, the reason why I stopped right there, because there is a distinct difference in when the apostle Paul says, in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ and his return versus the day of the Lord itself.

Okay, and so this is what we're going to go through today and talk about, and then we'll get back into the book of Philippians if time permits for us to see how much further we can go in that chapter.

So I want to go over here to the first chapter in 1 Corinthians and read the first verses 6 through 8.

Okay.

Alright, verse 6.

In this way, our testimony about Christ was confirmed and established in you.

The moment that you believed that Jesus, God, was buried and rose from the dead, that the testimony was confirmed in them.

Okay, that the beginning of their walk has started.

Okay, and this is what the apostle Paul is is alluding to here.

So it says, now, verse 7, so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift, and we know they definitely worked, but them spiritual gifts that were bestowed upon them as the Holy Spirit chose to whom he wanted to give certain gifts to, they became very arrogant and prideful in these gifts.

Okay, so they were not lacking in any spiritual gift which comes from look at this, the Holy Spirit, as you eagerly wait with confident trust for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ when look at this, he returns, and he will also confirm you to the end, keeping you strong and free of any accusations, so that you will be blameless and beyond reproach in the day of the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now, these are very strong words, but because of what Jesus Christ did at that cross, okay, he has made us blameless and restored us as though we had never sinned.

Now, although we deal with personal sins in our lives today, we fall.

And it is because of the wounds that he took on our behalf, especially going to that cross, is why we are now healed from the slavery of sin.

We've been free from sin.

Okay?

Now that's hard for many of us to understand because we still fall in sin today.

But ladies and gentlemen, I submit to you, it is our remembrance of sin that causes us to fall, not the force of sin itself, because sin is dead because Jesus killed it at the cross in his own body.

The Bible tells us, although that he knew no sin, he took on the sins of the world, and God punished him in our place.

Because he was the only one who qualified to go to the cross.

Okay?

Nobody else is qualified to do what he did for us.

But this is what the apostle Paul is talking about that Jesus in his return will confirm in us that we are blameless in his sight.

The reason for that is because the church, which is the body of Christ, is a representation of Jesus' bride.

A virgin bride, however, that has never been touched by any man before.

And that's only because of the works of what Jesus Christ has done that has provided us to be that virgin bride.

Matter of fact, I wasn't I was debating if I was going to do this, but let's go over to 2 Corinthians.

2 Corinthians chapter 11.

2 Corinthians 11 · chapter mention

And I want to look at verses 1 and 2.

And here goes the apostle Paul again as he is dressed addressing in this second book.

Well, we can see there was improvement between the first book that was, or letters that were sent to the churches in Corinth to the second one.

Now watch what he says here concerning us being the bride, as he's telling them these truths right now.

Watch what he says.

2 Corinthians chapter 11, verses 1, it says, I wish now, again, in the Amplified Bible, these two words, I wish, is in capital letters.

2 Corinthians 11:1

It's like yelling to the top of your lungs.

And although it's not great typing etiquette, they are emphasized here.

Okay, you would bear with me while I indulge in a little foolishness, but indeed you are bearing with me as you read this.

Watch this.

Verse 2 I am jealous for you with a godly jealous jealousy, because I have be I have promised you to one husband.

Who is that one husband?

He's about to tell us to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.

This is what it means about Christ will confirm us as being presented as blameless because we are going to be presented as a virgin bride never touched.

Now that is hard to understand, but that is the position in which we are currently sitting tonight.

We have been justified by Christ.

Therefore, there is no condemnation.

Does that give us permission to keep sinning just because we know we've been justified?

We know we've been freed from sin.

We know we have a superabundance of grace.

We know that we have been made blameless.

No, that does not.

And the apostle Paul addresses that in Romans chapter 5 and 6.

Romans 5 · chapter mention

We don't keep on sinning just so we because we know that grace will more abound and cover it.

The grace is there to help us, just like when you go bowling and you don't know nothing about bowling, especially as a child.

Well, they have tools there that can help that child be able to bowl that ball down the lane without it going in the gutters.

They call it bumpers.

Okay?

So it doesn't go into the gutters.

And they have this tool where you can put the ball on there when you line it up with the arrow in the middle.

You see these arrows that are on the lane.

And this is how I normally bowl.

I don't look at the pins themselves, I focus on that middle arrow and I bowl my ball as good as I can, lined up with that arrow.

And usually I'm hitting stripes when I do that.

But they have a tool that you can take where you can allow the ball to roll, line it up with the arrow, allow the ball to roll down, and even if it gets ready to go into the gutters, the bumper is there to buffer the ball back on the lane so that it does not fall into the gutters, giving you a chance to at least hit one of them pins.

This is grace, ladies and gentlemen.

God knows that He has given us and made us blameless, He's justified us and He has uh made us to live a life with no condemnation.

But He also knows, as the word says, a just man will fall seven times and get back up again.

It is not making an excuse for man to sin, but God is helping man to grow.

Grace is there to help us to grow maturely so that we can finally get past the things that Satan has set as obstacles and blocks and traps in our way.

See, even though he might be laughing at us, grace is helping us to be able to get to a place where we outgrow the sin that we've been freed from by Jesus Christ.

Alright?

And so this is what he means by Jesus confirming us as he is coming to get his bride, which is the church, which is the body of Christ, that is going to be presented to him blameless, washed in the word.

Okay?

Now, so let's let's get on back.

As we see, we're gonna we're gonna do some things and and do a comparison between the day of our Lord Jesus Christ versus the day of the Lord.

I want to attack the day of the Lord first, because so many people keep trying to place the church in this event.

And there's nowhere in here where the church, a body of Christ, will be involved in these horrific, horrific moments in time that are coming at some point based on prophecy.

The seven-year tribulation.

So let's go here and see what the apostle Paul has to say about this.

I want to go to Second Thessalonians first and let's look at the day of the Lord and track that down first.

The day of the Lord.

And I want to look at verses one and two.

Now let's go.

Make sure I'm on the right one here.

And I would be correct.

All right, let's go.

Chapter 2.

Now, in regard in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to meet him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, verse 2, not to be quickly unsettled or alarmed either by a so-called prophetic revelation of a spirit or a message or a letter alleged to be from us to the effect that the day of the Lord has already come.

Now, aren't we in a time today where we see such people doing the same thing that they were doing to the church, to those churches in Thessalonica?

Lies about a seven-year tribulation that the church will go through.

And they were actually telling these people that it has already happened.

You are experiencing it right now, and the apostle Paul had to get this letter out ahead of this to dispel that.

Because these people in Thessalonica they were going through so much hard, terrible persecution, such as these people in Philippi.

And their minds and hearts were unsettled, and the apostle Paul had to write these letters to settle them.

To remind them of his teachings about this modern, to remind them that you will not be a part of that matter, and we're going to see that in a minute.

All in the book of Thessalonians.

And it's very befitting that it was put here.

As we also search out what it means to be in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ladies and gentlemen, the day of the Lord is God's wrath and indignation on the obedient.

You can look all through the Old Testament and you will see numerous amounts of scriptures talking about this horrible day.

And we're going to go to some of that in a few minutes.

But I wanted to show y'all that you see the Apostle Paul actually mentioning both these events.

He starts off by mentioning the event in which the church, the body of Christ, will be involved in first, which is to be gathered up with Jesus Christ in the day of his return.

This is what he means by the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So when you see that, you should automatically know that this does not entail wrath in the day of the Lord.

Okay.

But he makes a distinction between both of them right here in these first two verses.

The day of Jesus Christ's return, as we are gathered up with him.

We're going to further examine that in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, verses 13 through 18.

1 Thessalonians 4:13–18

And he differentiates that from the day of the Lord.

Tells them, Do not be unsettled.

You need to focus on the first part of what I said in this verse, not the second part.

Because despite what you're going through, you are not experiencing the tribulation period.

It may seem that way, but you have not missed it.

You have not missed Jesus Christ's call to be gathered up with him in the clouds.

Okay?

And this is what he wanted to affirm to them.

This is the day of the Lord, ladies and gentlemen.

So let's let's go to Isaiah chapter 13 and see more about this horrific, terrifying moment in time that is going to come in the future.

Isaiah 13 · chapter mention

We don't know when just yet.

But what we do know, and I'm going to show you this again before I get to those scriptures about us exempting the wrath in 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians.

Alright, so now let's go chapter 13 in Isaiah.

We're going to look at verses 9 and 11 as it talks about this coming wrath.

Alright?

Now watch this.

Verse 9.

It says, Listen carefully, the day of the Lord is coming.

Now we just saw the apostle Paul talk about the day of the Lord and had to admonish the Thessalonica churches to settle down, not to be unsettled or alarmed.

You haven't missed the rapture.

You haven't missed the resurrection.

Okay?

Now I know a lot of people don't like to use rapture because it says not in the Bible, but it essentially means to be caught up in the presence of the Lord.

Okay?

Now, so he says, listen carefully, the day of the Lord is coming.

Cruel with what?

Wrath and raging anger.

It's going to tell us why that anger is going to come and why the wrath is going to come.

Watch this.

To make the land a horror of devastation.

Terrible time.

Church doesn't want to be a part of that.

And we won't be.

And he shall exterminate its sinners from it.

He's going to cleanse the world of all sin.

And unfortunately, these sinners who still refuse to believe on what Jesus Christ did for them will be banished to eternal punishment.

I know people don't want to teach that and preach that, but it's the Bible, ladies and gentlemen.

We got to teach what the Bible tells us.

So He's going to exterminate its sinners from it.

For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not flash with their light.

The sun will be dark when it rises, and the moon will not shed its light.

In this way I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their wickedness, their sin, their injustice, their wrongdoing.

I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud, and I will abase the arrogance of the tyrant.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is what the wrath is.

On the disobedient that still refuse to submit their lives that Jesus Christ paid a price for to him.

That's what the wrath is.

Now let's go to one more place.

Now, I'm not going to go to Job chapter 2, but you can definitely go there because Peter is basically going to prophesy everything in a hole.

Job 2 · chapter mention

Now, when Peter is prophesying this as he's prophesying it out of the Old Testament, he's not realizing that he is actually speaking of future events as well as the present event that took place for them once the Holy Spirit descended upon them.

Okay?

But we're going to go to it right now.

Let's get on over there to Acts chapter 2 and look at verses 14 through 21.

For your homework, you can look at Joel chapter 2, verses 28 through 32, because it's essentially the same thing the apostle Peter is going to say.

Joel 2:28–32

Okay.

So let's go over here to verse 14.

And let's start here.

Peter's sermon.

Okay, now they were able to, because of the Holy Spirit, speak in new tongues in the native languages of the people that were there.

And the people were in a maze, they were astonished.

But it was the Holy Spirit causing this so that the gospel could be spread to all those who did not speak the same language.

And this is what Peter is doing.

And he's getting ready to speak something and quote from the Old Testament of Job.

Okay, now let's go.

Verse 14 it says, But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, men of Judah and all you who live in Jerusalem.

Let this be explained to you.

Listen closely and pay attention to what I have to say.

These people are not drunk.

As you assume, since it is only the third hour of the day.

Now these people thought that it was like, how these people able to speak in our tongue.

They don't know nothing about our native tongue like that, but yet they were able to do it because of the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

And Peter is saying, We're not drunk.

Now you always hear it say, Be drunk in the Holy Spirit, and not drunk with wine.

And they were drunk with the Holy Spirit.

And that evidence of that is the prophecy that's getting ready to come forth.

That was mentioned.

The first part of this prophecy is being fulfilled right here, mentioned in Job.

Okay.

Watch this.

But this verse 16 is the beginning of what was spoken of through the prophet Joe.

Watch this.

It says, And it shall be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my spirit upon all mankind, which we're starting to see the evidence of that as Peter them are speaking in these new tongues, okay, of languages.

Alright.

And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see divinely prompted visions, and your older men shall dream divinely prompted dreams.

Even on my bond servants, both men and women, he's still quoting from the old testament.

And as I told you before, a lot of times when you see all these words and caps, that is what he's doing, quoting from the old testament.

Okay, other than the times when we see it emphasized in the amplified Bible of specific words, all right, putting an emphasis on those words.

It says, verse 18, let's go back there.

Even on my bond servants, both men and women, I will in those days pour out my spirit, the Holy Spirit, which we saw now as evidence has happened to Peter, them who were up in the upper room.

All of them received the Holy Spirit, and evidence for that of that for them was speaking in tongues.

Okay, and but in this version of tongues, it is speaking in tongues that are recognized, albeit not by them, but by the people that they are speaking to.

Because there were different native tongues who were at this gathering of a time of jubilee.

Okay, now so it says, Verse 19, and I will bring about wonders in the sky above, and signs attesting miracles on the earth below, blood and fire and smoking vapor.

Now we are now getting from the fulfillment of the first part of this prophecy about uh older women, older men uh seeing dreams, younger men seeing visions, younger women prophesying.

Now we're getting into the wrath.

This has not happened yet.

But Peter didn't know at this time because he's taken over by the Holy Spirit to stop at that first part of the prophecy.

He keeps going.

Okay, now he says, And I will bring about wonders in the sky above, and signs attesting miracles on the earth below, blood and fire and smoking vapor.

The sun shall be turned to darkness.

Now we saw a little bit of this mentioned in the book of Isaiah, chapter 13, verses 9 through 11.

Isaiah 13:9–11

And he's Joel is reiterating it, and but and Peter is is speaking it from that from that prophet, okay?

And the moon into blood before the great and glorious day, look at this, of the Lord comes.

It's wrath and indignation, ladies and gentlemen.

All right now, and it shall be that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord, invoking, adoring, and worshiping the Lord Jesus, shall be saved, rescued spiritually.

Now, that we've gotten a taste of what the day of the Lord means.

Let's see.

Is the church going to be involved in that?

Alright.

Now, the first place I want to go before we get to Thessal back to Thessalonians.

Let's go to Revelation chapter 3 and look at verse 10.

Revelation 3 · chapter mention

Now, Jesus here personally is addressing seven churches in this time period.

Okay?

As John is writing about these things.

And Jesus is personally going to say this himself.

He had some churches he tells us that he had some things against, and there were churches he had nothing against.

But watch what he tells this specific church right here in chapter 3, verse 10.

Watch this.

Watch what he says here concerning the hour of tribulation or the seven-year tribulation period.

Watch what he says.

He says, Because you have kept the word of my endurance, my command to persevere, I will keep you safe from the hour of trial.

Meaning, if he were to come at that time, they would not have to bear the burden of the seven-year tribulation period.

He will rescue them from it immediately before it started.

And this is what he's saying right here.

Alright now.

He says he will keep them safe from the hour of trial, that hour which is about to come on the whole inhabited world to test those who live on the earth.

Now he was telling even them that because they've kept his commandment, they've walked in their obedience despite all the trials and tribulations that were facing them, the persecution, they kept his commandment, and therefore he would keep his promise and rescue them from the hour of trial.

Now, let's get on over here and see what the apostle Paul has to say about this day that everybody keeps trying to put us in.

You have hopefully an idea of what this wrath looks like.

It's not pretty.

Alright.

So now let's get over here.

Let's go to 1 Thessalonians first.

1 Thessalonians, the first chapter, and I want to look at verses 8 through 10.

Now watch what it says here concerning the day of the Lord.

It don't get no plainer than this, ladies and gentlemen.

But for some reason, people keep trying to avoid these epistles of the Apostle Paul.

And I tell y'all this.

The Apostle Paul has been called the master builder on the foundation of Jesus Christ for a reason.

That's not coincidence.

That is not just something he wrote on his own religion.

I know people want to argue the fact that some things the Apostle Paul wrote.

He didn't write it because the Holy Spirit told him to write it.

And he actually says there are times this is not the Holy Spirit telling me this, this is me writing it.

But, ladies and gentlemen, make no mistake about it.

Whatever's been put in this Bible, it can't be put in here without the express permission of God to do it.

I need y'all to understand that.

People can accuse me of whatever they want to, but I'm telling you the biblical truth and how you build on this word.

And if you do this, you won't be caught in people telling you stuff that does not line up with what these epistles, the apostle, was given by Jesus Christ, our ascended Lord, is saying.

So let's go.

Alright?

Because truth is getting spoken here.

First Thessalonians chapter 1, verses 8 through 10.

1 Thessalonians 1:8–10

Watch what it says here.

For the word of the Lord has resounded from you and has echoed like thunder, not only in Macedonia and Archaia, but in every place the news of your great faith in God has spread, so that we never need to say anything about it.

These people were walking in a righteous way.

So much so that it was echoing throughout everyone, even those in Macedonia.

Now you can imagine the competition now of walking in spiritual righteousness now.

Because they're not only the only ones walking in this spiritual righteousness.

Now, these people in Thessalonica, it is ringing loud.

They are receiving with welcoming open arms the words of the apostle Paul and those that came with the apostles.

Now there are few that the apostle Paul had to address.

That did not want to work, they were lazy, and they were gossipers.

And Paul had to address that in these churches of Thessalonica.

Says, has nothing have nothing to do with these people that are walking in sexual immorality, they are gossiping, they don't want to work.

This is where it comes when you see hear the scripture.

A man that does not work should not eat.

This is why the apostle Paul was saying that.

Okay, now so their righteousness was echoing loud like thunder.

Okay.

It was being heard all over the place.

Verse 9 for they themselves report about us telling what kind of reception.

See this?

We had among you, how they openly welcomed the word with joy, and how you turn to God from idols to serve the living and true God.

Most of these people, Gentiles, they worship idols.

That's what they did.

All the way from the old testament.

You will see this.

Okay.

But now watch this.

And to look forward and confidently wait for the coming, look at this, of his son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead.

Jesus, who personally, watch this, rescues us from the coming wrath.

It don't get no plainer than that.

Then you just see Jesus Himself over there in Revelation chapter 3, verse 10, say that he would rescue them from the hour of trial.

Revelation 3:10

The apostle Paul is confirming that to these churches in Thessalonica, these Gentile churches, the same thing.

And for all those who try to discredit his epistles, he's got this stuff from Jesus Christ.

That's why it echoes some of the same stuff that you see in the Old Testament.

That's why it echoes some of the same stuff that you see in the four gospels.

For that specific reason to let you know that he's been chosen personally from the ascended Lord from the position of heaven, seated at the right hand of the Father.

So look, we will exempt the coming wrath and draw us to himself, granting us all the privileges and rewards of a new life with him.

It don't get no plainer than that, ladies and gentlemen.

Now let's go over here again, 1 Thessalonians, and look at chapter 5.

Let's look at chapter 5, and I want to look at verses 7 through 9.

I want to look at verses 7 through 9.

Watch what it says here.

For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night.

But there's something we should be doing as believers, and here's the reason why.

But since we believers belong to the day, let us be sober, sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love.

Now he's briefly mentioning some of the same things about the putting on the the uh armor of God, like he mentioned in more detail in Ephesians chapter 6.

Ephesians 6 · chapter mention

He says, But since we believers belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope and confident assurance of salvation.

Verse 9.

For God has, look at this, y'all, not destined us to incur his wrath.

It don't get no plan in that.

That is, he did not select us to condemn us, like he's going to condemn those that are not justified in their evil that we saw in Isaiah chapter 13, verses 9 through 11.

Isaiah 13:9–11

We are not set up for the hour of condemnation, but to obtain, look at this, salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

It don't get no plainer than that, ladies and gentlemen.

Somebody's out there right now trying to deceive you with that mess of the church is going to not exempt the wrath of God, the seven-year tribulation.

Don't even say anything to them.

Just, hey, God bless you.

Keep walking the other direction.

It's not even worth having an argument with them over something that they are ignorant and know nothing about.

They clearly can't be studying their Bible because if they were, they would know these places where we just went.

This is what the day of the Lord is.

Now, as we saw over here in 2 Thessalonians, how possible Paul mentioned the day of our Lord Jesus Christ as we are gathered up with him.

We're getting ready to go to 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, 13 through 18, as we close it with that, looking in with more detail on what it means to be a part of the day of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 4 · chapter mention

But he differentiates that, starting off first, briefly mentioning the gathering that we're going to have with Jesus Christ, versus the day of the Lord that we're not going to be a part of.

Alright?

Now, let's get on over here to 1 Thessalonians, chapter 4, verses 13 through 18.

1 Thessalonians 4:13–18

And see the most controversial that even people who say they're in the body of Christ refuse to believe this.

When it's here in the word.

It's here in the word.

Now, let's go.

Let's start at verse 13.

Now, we do not want you to be uninformed believers, which there are so many ignorant believers that are out there right now.

And the apostle Paul addresses certain letters this way at certain points in time.

We do not want you to be ignorant of these truths, such as most are, especially the cult religions.

Believers about those who are asleep in death or have fallen asleep in death.

Being watchers, waiting on Jesus Christ's return.

This is why the apostle Paul says that we are children of the day.

We just read briefly about that.

Being sober-minded, watchful for his return, making sure that we're not in the wrong place when he does return and call the children up to join him and gather us together with him.

Alright, now, in depth so that you will not grieve for them as the others do who have no hope beyond this present life.

Now, look, this doesn't mean you can't grieve your loved ones that have gone on, especially those in the Lord.

But if there are someone that you know that was in the Lord, don't hold too long in that grieving period because you have hope tonight that one day you will be gathered up with them again.

Alright?

Now, for if we believe that Jesus, here he goes, mentioned in the gospel again, because this is the qualifications for being gathered up with Jesus Christ.

You have to believe and confess this.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, as in fact he did, even so God in this same way by raising them from the dead because of Jesus, now he is able to call us by name, like he did Lazarus, call us out of the grave to be joined up with him in the clouds.

Watch this.

Alright.

So now he in the same way is able to raise the dead from the grave, will bring with him those believers who have fallen asleep in Jesus.

Verse 13, verse 15.

For we say this to you by the Lord's own word, not ours.

By the Lord's own word, personally has said this that we who are still alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will in no way proceed into his presence those believers who have fallen asleep in death.

In other words, the hope is that we don't have to taste death, and we can still be alive and be caught up with those that have fallen asleep in the Lord.

But the apostle Paul says, From the Lord's own words, by no way will we proceed those who have fallen asleep, for they will be raised from the dead first to join the Lord in the air, and almost like simultaneously, those who are still alive will be caught up with him.

That were fortunate enough not to have to taste death, such as Enoch and Elijah were able to do.

Elijah E-L-I-J-A-H and Enoch in the book of Genesis, the first one to have this encounter where he did not have to taste death.

The Lord says he took him for he was no more because he pleased God in walking in righteousness, took him right before the flood happened.

Let that sink in for a minute.

So if that happened with him and he did not have to incur the flood, how much more would it happen for you?

And the scriptures tell you this.

Alright?

Now let's keep going.

No way proceed into his presence those believers who have fallen asleep in death.

For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven with a shout of command.

Now he will not come feet to the ground.

There's a reason for that.

He's going to feet on the clouds in the air, because we are his heavenly people.

So he's gathering us from a heavenly position.

When Jesus' feet steps back down on that very mountain that people watched him ascend from, that means now his enemies will be made completely his footstool, and it is time for the millennial kingdom, which we have been translated into tonight, even though we can't feel it, will come to the earth and rest on the earth.

And the everlasting King Jesus Christ Himself will reign and rule.

And those of us who have walked obedient and have brought souls into the body will receive reward and rule with him as heirs, joint heirs to the promise.

Romans 8 tells us this.

Alright.

So now, for the Lord Himself, let's go back over 16, will come down from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel, angel, and with the blast of the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Now, I'm gonna briefly explain this a little bit because in the old testament you hear about these trumpets.

These trumpets represent victory.

I'll give you an idea when you go over to the book of Joshua and how they were given instructions to walk around once a day for seven days around uh once a day, I believe it for the first six days around Jericho.

Okay, and on the seventh day, they walked around seven times.

And the Bible says, once that happened, victory was wrung out with these trumpets, these horns, letting them know that the victory has been gathered because the wall is getting ready to come down.

So the same way these trumpets are used to represent victory, they will be representing victory as telling us that death and the grave for us has finally been swallowed up, and our our bodies of immortality has been earned.

Ladies and gentlemen, we ripe then in a twinkling of an eye will be light as Jesus is tonight in an immortal body.

And we're gonna get to that in Philippians chapter 3, I believe, verses 20 through 21.

Philippians 3 · chapter mention

But look at what he's saying, he's gonna come with a blast of a trumpet, a trumpet of victory.

And the dead in Christ will rise first, they will be called up first.

Verse 17.

Then we who are alive and remain on the earth will simultaneously be caught up, raptured together with them, the resurrected ones.

In the where clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.

Verse 18, therefore, because of these great things that we ought to be looking forward to, we are to comfort and encourage one another with those words concerning our reunion with believers who have died.

Don't mean that you can't mourn those who have fallen asleep in death.

But if they are in the Lord tonight, don't mourn and grieve long, because you know one day you will see those who have fallen asleep in the Lord again.

But in no way will we proceed those that have fallen fallen asleep in the Lord, they will be raised from the dead first, called up by name, just like an army.

Okay, just like an army, called up, and then those that are still alive, which I'm hoping I'm one that's still alive, and don't have to taste death.

But if I do, I have confidence.

The apostle Paul says to live is Christ, to die is gain, and I can't wait to get to that one, and it's in the first chapter because we got a lot to cover there.

So either way, I got Christ.

But my hope is, and it should be all of our hope, that if we're still alive and we got breath in our body, is to be awaiting his great appearing and not have to taste death.

In doing so.

Now we're gonna stop right there, and when we come back, we will pick back up at Philippians chapter 1 and we'll start reading from the seventh verse on.

Philippians 1 · chapter mention

But I needed to explain there is a difference in the day of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

That is talking about what we just looked at the resurrection and the great being caught up and gathered up with Jesus.

That's not a second coming, which consists of the day of the Lord, which the church will be coming back with him like an army.

But we won't be experiencing what he's gonna bring on the world.

We will see it and witness it, but we won't have to experience it because we will be on the other side of that thing.

Alright?

Now, I hope that I was able to explain this enough where you gather an idea of the difference between the two.

That's why we couldn't just skip it.
