  1. extend that greeting today. Thank you so much

  2. for being in the house of the Lord this morning.

  3. In case I forget a little bit later, I've been

  4. prone to get wound up and forget things. If you

  5. go out those doors to my left, your right, we'll

  6. have a smiling face there to bless you and just

  7. to let you know how much we do appreciate you

  8. being here today. And trust and pray that The

  9. Spirit of the Lord has already met your heart

  10. through your praise, through your worship. Amen.

  11. And you've already encountered the grace of God.

  12. Amen. For He is truly here. He's truly faithful,

  13. is He not? Amen. God is truly good. There's an

  14. old song. Come to my mind, I don't know. A former

  15. pastor of mine, when I was just a boy, this was

  16. his favorite song. It's on page 285 in that old

  17. red back end. If you look at 1 Kings 20, around

  18. 23 is where we're going to take our text from.

  19. I want to preach to you this morning from the

  20. thought, he's the God of the low places. He's

  21. the God of the low places. And then a large portion

  22. of this message is about valleys. And then I

  23. got to thinking about this old song on page 285

  24. in that old redback. It says, The Lily of the

  25. Valley. How many has ever heard that old song?

  26. Anybody not heard it? Anybody not heard that

  27. old song? It's one of those little bit quirky,

  28. rhythmed. type songs, and sometimes it's hard

  29. for me to get. I get all jumbled up, but we'll

  30. catch up on it. Let's see if I can get this.

  31. Well, I have a friend in Jesus. He's everything

  32. to me. He's the fairest of 10 ,000 to my soul.

  33. The lily of the valley, in him alone I see all

  34. I need to cleanse and make me fully whole. In

  35. sorrow, he's my comfort. In trouble, he's my

  36. stay. He tells me every care on him to roll.

  37. Well, he's the lily of the valley, the bright

  38. and morning star. He's the fairest of 10 ,000

  39. to my soul. Let's try that third verse. He will

  40. never, never leave me and yet forsake me here.

  41. By faith and do his will. I told you. A wall

  42. of fire about me, I've nothing now to fear. With

  43. his manna he my hungry soul shall feel. Then

  44. sweeping up to glory to see his blessed face

  45. where rivers of delight shall ever roll. Well,

  46. he's the lily of the valley, the bright and morning

  47. star. He's the fairest. Let's do that first one

  48. again. That's my favorite anyway. Well, I found

  49. a friend in Jesus. He's everything to me. He's

  50. the fairest of 10 ,000 to my soul. The lily of

  51. the valley, in him alone I see all I need to

  52. cleanse and make me fully whole. In sorrow, he's

  53. my comfort. In trouble, he's my stay. He tells

  54. me every care on him to roll. For he's the lily

  55. of the valley, the bright and morning star. He's

  56. the fairest. of 10 ,000 to my soul. Aren't you

  57. glad for the lily of the valley? Aren't you glad

  58. that he still blooms? Huh? Aren't you glad he's

  59. still faithful? Aren't you glad he still tells

  60. us to own him all our care roll? I am. Hallelujah.

  61. He's the fairest of 10 ,000 to my soul. Amen?

  62. Amen. I've broken a rule where We're live this

  63. morning, at least at my house. I can do that.

  64. I'm the pastor, you know. Miss you, baby. 1 Kings

    1 Kings 20 chapter mention

  65. chapter 20. We're going to read a couple of verses.

  66. I want to read verse 23 and verse 28. Several

  67. years ago, I preached a version of this message,

  68. and we're going to see what the Lord does with

  69. it again today. He stirred my heart on this message.

  70. Amen. Half of the crowd is going to be happy

  71. today, and the other half are going to be not

  72. so happy. That being, how many of you are normally

  73. freezing to death in here on Sunday? Raise your

  74. hand. Come on, don't be shamed. Okay, you should

  75. feel a little better because we've got one side

  76. of the compressors down through one of the lightning

  77. storms this week. And so that means the rest

  78. of you have to suffer while they feel a little

  79. bit more comfort. You know, you get half one

  80. week and half the next week. If you can break

  81. half, you're doing good. Amen. Verse 23. Chapter

  82. 20 of the book of 1 Kings. And the servants of

  83. the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are

  84. gods of the hills. Therefore, they were stronger

  85. than we. But let us fight against them in the

  86. plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

  87. Verse 28. And there came a man of God. Aren't

  88. you glad that when you need something, God will

  89. send you a word? Amen. He'll send a word. When

  90. you're in need, he will send a word. And there

  91. came a man of God and spake unto the king of

  92. Israel and said, Thus saith the Lord. When you

  93. get to there now, it's on, right? It's done settled.

  94. It's done done. Thus saith the Lord, because

  95. the Syrians have said, the Lord is God of the

  96. hills, but he is not God of the valleys. Therefore

  97. will I deliver all this great multitude into

  98. thine hand, and you shall know that I am the

  99. Lord, the God of the low places. I'll pray for

  100. you if you pray for me. Father, we love you.

  101. We thank you for your goodness, your mercy, and

  102. the abundance of your grace. I ask God that you'd

  103. have your way in our hearts and our minds this

  104. morning, for truly you are good and your mercy

  105. endures forever. Lord, not to be absent -minded

  106. of the happenings of our nation and all that's

  107. going on in this world. Again, another second

  108. hand on the time clock of eternity has already

  109. clicked. Lord, we know the despair that's in

  110. the world. We know the wars and rumors of wars

  111. that are going on in this world. And I ask God

  112. today that you would speak of peace. that only

  113. you can. Lord, may you intervene on behalf of

  114. nations of this world. Unless it be the time

  115. of the sending of your son, and if it be so,

  116. even so, Lord, come quickly. Maranatha, hallelujah.

  117. Come quickly. Help us today, Father God, in Jesus'

  118. mighty and holy name. And the church said, amen

  119. and amen. Tell your neighbor, he's God in the

  120. low places. I want you to keep in mind today,

  121. because once I get wound up, I know I'll forget.

  122. Remember Pastor Brian and Sister Erica and the

  123. team, they're going over to minister this evening

  124. at a district service in the Sequatchie Valley

  125. over at the Dunlap District. So that's the reason

  126. he's not singing. He's kind of got a little bit

  127. of stuff going on. He's saving all he's got for

  128. tonight. Amen. So just pray the Lord use them

  129. in a mighty way. Souls be saved, touched, sanctified,

  130. filled with the Holy Ghost, healed, delivered.

  131. And the Lord just use them in a mighty way. Amen.

  132. God of the low places. Something I think would

  133. prove well for us to remember is that the devil

  134. is a loud mouth. I just want you to know that.

  135. The old term and the old phrase is he's a blowhard.

  136. Anybody know what I'm talking about? He likes

  137. to boast. He likes to brag, amen, and just blow

  138. his smoke as the old saying goes. And especially

  139. he will do that if he ever gets a little bit

  140. of an inkling of victory over God's people. If

  141. he thinks he's getting the upper hand on you,

  142. he's going to try to brag about it. He's going

  143. to try to boast about it to you mainly. You know,

  144. he tries to boast. and those in whom he's trying

  145. to gain victory over. But God, however, is very

  146. jealous for his namesake, amen, his reputation,

  147. and his people. Therefore, allowing the enemy

  148. to win and to brag actually rubs God the wrong

  149. way. He's not for that, amen. So God is invested

  150. in the overthrowing of the schemes of the wicked

  151. one, the enemy against God's people, and he's

  152. all about vindicating God's children. You do

  153. remember the word of the Lord says, vengeance

  154. is mine. saith the Lord. Amen? You don't ever

  155. have to worry about getting back at the devil

  156. or anyone. If you'll just hold on. If you'll

  157. just hold on, you'll see God do something for

  158. you that you can sit back. Now, I know we don't

  159. like to do this, but, you know, you do. You'll

  160. sit back and kindly smile when you see the Lord

  161. overtake your enemy. You know, we feel sorry

  162. for them, but we kindly say, like, yeah, mess

  163. with me again. Right? Come on. God's got me.

  164. He's got you. Amen. We'll pray for them, but

  165. we can pray for them with a smile on their face.

  166. Amen. In our text this morning, we see to what

  167. extent God will actually go to and how God intervenes.

  168. And he will stop short at nothing will hinder

  169. him from short -circuiting the plan and all that

  170. the enemy has devised against his people. God

  171. loves to mess up the devil's plan. He enjoys

  172. putting the enemy off. Amen? He does. And so

  173. what we need to see this morning from this text

  174. is a very encouraging word. It encouraged me

  175. all over again. It's really stirred in my heart

  176. that God is on our side. Amen. No matter what

  177. the enemy's trying to do, no matter how he's

  178. trying to destroy, deceive, God is on our side,

  179. and he'll not allow the enemy to try up over

  180. you very long. Amen. He's not going to allow

  181. him to have super superiority over your life,

  182. especially if you come before him and you do

  183. what his word says and you cast all your care

  184. on him for he cares for you. When you do that,

  185. God is on your side. He will take up your cause.

  186. He will take up your plight. Your battle becomes

  187. his battle. Amen. And God will be on your side.

  188. And when we think about this God of the low places,

  189. understand that it's... It's a reference to valleys

  190. in our life. Amen. And we need to know that God

  191. encourages us in our low moments, in our low

  192. times. Amen. Here we have the Syrian army. The

  193. Israelites defeated them in the hill country.

  194. And you've got some king's servant who had a

  195. bright idea. Hey, hey, their God is the God of

  196. the hill country. That's why we lost. That's

  197. why we got to feed. He's the God of the hills.

  198. And I tell you what, if we can get them down

  199. in the valleys, we can take them. We can take

  200. them if we get them down in the valley. Amen.

  201. The term valley actually means an elongated depression

  202. in the earth's surface. But the term many years

  203. ago has begun to relate to the body and the people

  204. of God who have found low places in their life.

  205. It's an elongated, long, depressive state sometimes.

  206. that we find ourselves getting into. It's not

  207. a pleasant moment. Sometimes valleys are pleasant.

  208. Amen. Sometimes they are. They're not always

  209. to be despised and rejected. Sometimes there's

  210. some beautiful moments in the valley. Can I tell

  211. you, that's going to be one of the closest places

  212. you'll ever walk with God is when you're walking

  213. in the valley because that's when I need him

  214. the most. Amen. That's when I need him to come

  215. nearer. That's when I need that kindness and

  216. the gentleness and the comfort of the Holy Ghost.

  217. Amen. Just walk with me. Sister Kathy and I was

  218. riding the other day, and I began to sing that

  219. old song. He comes in the garden. Amen. I walked

  220. in the garden alone while the dew was still on

  221. the roses. And the voice I hear calling on my

  222. ear, the voice of God gently calling and walks.

  223. with me and he and he tells me and the voice

  224. I hear falling home my ear none other has ever

  225. known see that's the valley you get that in the

  226. valley he comes to you he'll walk with you and

  227. the voice that you hear and the joy that you

  228. hear and the comfort that he provides is in the

  229. valley. Amen. When we're on the mountain, we're

  230. flying high in our own strength. Amen. We're

  231. going in the victories that we have just fought

  232. and God has helped us win and we're doing pretty

  233. good. But when we begin the descent, amen, when

  234. we begin to go down and we all go down, don't

  235. ever think for a moment that the characteristics

  236. of the valley aren't applicable to every one

  237. of us because these low places will appear in

  238. our Our lives from time to time. Some characteristics

  239. of the valleys are this. They are unavoidable.

  240. Valleys in life are unavoidable. You can't get

  241. around them. Amen. You can't get away from them.

  242. At one point or another or maybe many times in

  243. your life, the longer you live, the more valleys

  244. that you will trod through. Amen. The more that

  245. you will have to go through. Things are going

  246. on and things are going to happen in our lives.

  247. It's going to bring us to some elongated journey.

  248. It's going to bring us to a depressed section

  249. of life, and we're going to be low, and we're

  250. going to be down. You can count on it. It's unavoidable.

  251. You're going to find one. It's always been said,

  252. either this, you're either coming out of a valley

  253. right now, or you're in the middle of a valley,

  254. or you're at the threshold about to go into a

  255. valley. That's just the way life works. That's

  256. just the way the enemy is out to steal, to kill,

  257. and to destroy every single one of us. And you

  258. don't think for a moment that he's going to give

  259. us ample peace, do you? No. oh, he's coming tomorrow.

  260. He's coming on Tuesday. He'll show up on Wednesday.

  261. He'll show up on Thursday. But that's all right

  262. because there is a blooming lily in every single

  263. valley, and he's the fairest of 10 ,000 to my

  264. soul. Okay, devil, I know there's a valley coming

  265. my way. I may be in it. I may be coming out.

  266. I may just be getting started, but that's okay

  267. because my God is the God of the valley. Hallelujah.

  268. I don't care what the enemy says, but he's only

  269. fighting for you. you on the hillside. No, he's

  270. fighting for me and walking with me and talking

  271. with me as I'm going through the valley. Every

  272. valley that I go through, the anointed one is

  273. with me. And there is a rose of Sharon that blooms

  274. with the lily. I'm here to tell you today, he

  275. is the God of the low places. these characteristics.

  276. They're unavoidable. You can't go around it.

  277. You can't go over it. You can't tunnel under

  278. it. You've got to go through it. You've got to

  279. go through it. So they're unavoidable. Another

  280. characteristic about valleys is they're unpredictable.

  281. Isn't that the truth? It's like all three stations

  282. of our weather people. All of our meteorologists

  283. around our area. The Tennessee Valley weather

  284. is unpredictable. They try. I know they do. Or

  285. at least I think they do. They spend a lot of

  286. money to get an education. And why we watch the

  287. European model for our weather to begin with

  288. just baffles me. I mean, what do they know? It

  289. rains over there all the time anyway. Valleys

  290. are unpredictable. You cannot plan valleys. You

  291. can't time valleys out. Amen? They're unscheduled.

  292. They're usually and most always come at the most

  293. inconvenient moments of your life. Because if

  294. it wasn't inconvenient for you and the worst

  295. possible time for a valley to show up, then why

  296. would the enemy carve it out in front of you?

  297. It has to be unpredictable. It's like a... Have

  298. you ever had a flat at a good time? Come on.

  299. Have you ever had a flat tire at an opportune

  300. moment when you've got all the time in the world

  301. to fix it? No. That's not when your tire's flat.

  302. It's when you hit snooze three times and you're

  303. late for work already and you get up and run

  304. out the door and there it is. Flat is the old

  305. saying, a flitter. Flatter to flitter. Anybody

  306. ever heard that? That's not opportune. That's

  307. not scheduled. It's so unpredictable. You didn't

  308. decide to run over a tack that the roofer let

  309. out of the truck yesterday coming home. That

  310. was not scheduled. That was not planned. Matter

  311. of fact, it's the most unopportune moment for

  312. a flat there is. Or if you're going down the

  313. highway and you run over something going to some

  314. place that you needed to have been 10 minutes

  315. ago, pow, pow. pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop,

  316. and over on the side of the road. And you're

  317. sitting there wanting to pull every hair of your

  318. head out. Unless you're Randy. I don't know what

  319. he does. How frustrated do you have to be? There's

  320. no opportune time for valleys. Amen? They're

  321. unpredictable, but they're coming. So just get

  322. ready. That's why you carry a spare tire, hopefully.

  323. I don't. Just call AAA or somebody. Something

  324. else about valleys. Valleys are impartial. They're

  325. equal opportunity offenders. Hello? No one is

  326. immune, so thereby we are all subject to. Amen?

  327. They are impartial. Can I tell you, the devil's

  328. out to kill, steal, and to destroy us all. Amen.

  329. I know I'm God's favorite son. I know I am. I

  330. know he loves me more than he loves any of you.

  331. I know that. Favor, God's grace and favor leans

  332. my way, even in my valleys. No matter how low

  333. they are and no matter how low they become, God...

  334. God loves me. And let me just share it with you.

  335. I know I like to say that, but God loves you

  336. every bit as much as he loves me. Amen. His grace

  337. is extended to you every day as much as he extends

  338. his grace toward me every single day. As valleys

  339. are impartial, so is God. All that call upon

  340. the name of the Lord shall. Be saved. Call unto

  341. me and I will answer you. Show you things that

  342. are higher than you and more mightier than you.

  343. I'll show you. I will baffle you. You just prove

  344. me and see. That's for you. That's for me. As

  345. the valleys are impartial, so is God's abundant

  346. grace and love. Yes, you're going to make it.

  347. Yes, you're going to hold on. Yes, you're going

  348. to go down. Yes, you're going to go into the

  349. valley. It's impartial. It's truly coming your

  350. way. The Word of God says in Matthew 545, God

  351. causes his son to rise on the evil and the good,

  352. and he causes it to rain. He sends rain on the

  353. righteous, and he sends rain on the unrighteous.

  354. What does that mean, Pastor? Everybody's going

  355. to get wet from time to time, but the sun is

  356. also going to shine for everyone at one time

  357. or another. So get your Eeyore off of you, amen.

  358. Go ahead and pin your tail on right and start

  359. walking now. God, Eeyore. Pick your head up.

  360. Linus, wring out your blanket because the cloud

  361. isn't going to follow you every single day. Hallelujah.

  362. You might as well. I've come to tell myself.

  363. I've come to tell everybody listening. I've come

  364. to tell everyone sitting here today. We've got

  365. to tell ourselves by his grace which is sufficient

  366. for our life. Pick up our head. Pick up ourselves

  367. and get ready, get ready, get ready, get ready,

  368. get ready because the grace of God is all sufficient.

  369. Come on, Eeyore. Pick up. We need to get a little

  370. tigger in our life. I wish the kids was in here

  371. that morning. They'd be laughing. We need a little

  372. tigger in our life. We need a little spring to

  373. our step. It's hard to spring in the valley,

  374. trust me. But that's when we need the spring.

  375. That's when we need to understand and realize

  376. that God's grace is with us in the low places.

  377. Here we have the Syrians saying that God is only

  378. God on the mountain and he's not God in the valley.

  379. Well, they never heard that Bestow Goodman song,

  380. didn't they? He's a God on the mountain and he's

  381. still God in the valley. When things go wrong,

  382. he'll make them right. Amen? They didn't hear

  383. that song. They'd have heard that song. They

  384. would have never said that and cost them the

  385. ultimate defeat that entered into their life.

  386. He's only God on the mountain. They did not know

  387. who Jehovah really was. Had they known for sure

  388. that Jehovah was the God of the universe and

  389. the God of the creations and the God who spoke,

  390. he was Elohim. Had they only known, they would

  391. have never let those foolish words out of their

  392. mouth. Oh, we have to be careful what foolish

  393. words we let out of our mouths. Another characteristic,

  394. valleys are temporary. Say that with me. Say

  395. it again. Valleys are temporary. Valleys are

  396. temporary. Valleys are not caves. Valleys are

  397. temporary. Elongated depressions in the earth's

  398. surface. That's a valley. The longest valley

  399. in the world is the Great Rift. I wrote it down

  400. here somewhere. Here it is. It's the Great Rift

  401. Valley. It stretches 4 ,300 miles from Asia,

  402. Jordan in Asia, all the way through Mozambique

  403. into Africa. 300 miles. But can I tell you, it

  404. doesn't go all the way around and come back and

  405. meet itself. No, valleys are like tunnels, not

  406. caves. You may have to get around a little bit

  407. of geography change, but you'll eventually see

  408. the light at the other end. It's just not a cave

  409. that you're in. The devil's trying to tell you

  410. that it's over. It's all finished. You're done.

  411. You're washed up. There's no more good for you,

  412. but I'm here to tell you right now, you're not

  413. in a cave, and they're not going to put dirt

  414. over you and bury you. It's like a rut. A rut

  415. is like a grave with both ends knocked out, and

  416. if there's a way out, I'm going to find it. Hallelujah.

  417. I'm not stupid. staying. You've got to determine

  418. I'm not staying in this temporary condition.

  419. I'm not remaining in this valley forever because

  420. Osama said, yea, though I walk through the valley

  421. of the shadow of death, his declaration is I

  422. will fear no evil while I am here on my temporary

  423. journey. Temporary. Keep a cool head. Keep calm,

  424. collective. Preaching to myself. On my first

  425. missionary trip to Ecuador with Brother Ronald

  426. Reagan, we're sitting on a bus for a couple hours

  427. waiting on the local folk to get around, get

  428. up, and let's get going. And he told us something.

  429. He could tell we was all getting kind of... A

  430. bunch of us were pastors, and once you set things

  431. up, let's get it going. Eight o 'clock means

  432. eight o 'clock, doesn't it? Well, along about

  433. ten, they finally showed up. Brother Reagan told

  434. us, he said, listen, be flexible, and you won't

  435. get bent out of shape. I was kindly already getting

  436. twisted sitting on that bus. Sort of getting

  437. twisted out of shape. And then he said that.

  438. I always remember. Be flexible and you won't

  439. get bent out of shape. Look, in your valley,

  440. don't become rigid. Rigid breaks. Rigid fractures.

  441. Amen. Rigid will warp if you're not careful.

  442. But flexible. Come on. I about threw one out

  443. right there. I felt it click. Oh, Lord. Be flexible

  444. and you won't get bent out of shape. When it

  445. comes to things of the Spirit in your life, be

  446. flexible. Amen? If you're flexible, you won't

  447. get bent out of shape. 1 Peter 5 and 8 and 11

  448. says, Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary,

  449. the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking

  450. whom he may devour. Whom resists. steadfast in

  451. the faith. Can I tell you the only way you're

  452. going to resist him is in the faith? You can

  453. try yourself. You can try your anger. You can

  454. try your doubt. You can try everything, your

  455. frustration. You can try to resist him and all

  456. of that, and all you're going to get is more

  457. frustrated. All you're going to get is madder

  458. by the minute because that's not how we resist

  459. the devil that's coming against us, that's roaring

  460. against us in our low places, in our valleys

  461. of life. The only way we stand steadfast against

  462. him as if we resist him in the faith. And how

  463. do we do that, Pastor? Oh, Lord, we resist him

  464. in the faith because greater is he that's in

  465. us than he that is in this world. That's how

  466. I resist him by faith, knowing that if God be

  467. for me, then who can be against me? That's how

  468. I stand. That's how we're going day by day. That's

  469. how I'm going to walk through and out the other

  470. end of any valley that presents itself in the

  471. duration of my faith. on this earth. You'd be

  472. well to serve yourself notice as well. There

  473. is a devil out there. Whom resists steadfast

  474. in the faith? Knowing. Here's something else.

  475. You got to know some stuff. Amen. Knowing that

  476. the same afflictions are accomplished in your

  477. brethren that are in the world. The next time

  478. that you take a break in your valley at the juniper

  479. tree of life and you start making yourself some

  480. sour grape juniper drink and you're supping on

  481. the bitter root of life and you're trying to

  482. sit under the shade in the depression of your

  483. valley and you start declaring, well, woe is

  484. me. Oh, despair and agony. Why me, oh God, why?

  485. I'll tell you why you. Why not you? Why not me?

  486. Why not us? Why not the church? Why not the people?

  487. We're the ones that are supposed to be walking

  488. by faith, amen, trusting in God's unchanging

  489. hand. Why not us? Because the afflictions of

  490. the brethren, knowing that they've already endured,

  491. they have already come through victorious, knowing.

  492. That the same afflictions are accomplished in

  493. your brethren that are in the world. Next time

  494. the devil jumps up on your shoulder or sends

  495. one of his little imps to whisper in your ear,

  496. well, God don't love you. If he loved you, you

  497. wouldn't be going through this. I have you to

  498. know he loves me because I'm going through it.

  499. I'm going through it because he loves me. Huh?

  500. He trusts me. I know some of you are saying,

  501. I wish he didn't trust me so much. But I've not

  502. endured in life anything such as old man Job.

  503. I've not endured that stuff. Neither have you.

  504. Hello? Neither have you. He made it. If he made

  505. it, you and I are going to make it. Why? Because

  506. we serve the same God he did, the God of the

  507. low places. And I'll tell you what he'll do when

  508. you're all piled up and scraping the sores off

  509. your body and your friends have come up and said,

  510. well, what did you do? Right? Your good friends,

  511. one come up and sat across the fire and looked

  512. at you for a week and never said a word. You

  513. know what it'd make you want to do? Crawl around

  514. the fire and slap somebody. Come on. That's one

  515. of my slim winter jackets. It's hot out there.

  516. I had on one of my loose -fitting summer jackets,

  517. but it was way too loose. Yeah, it makes you

  518. want to slide around the fire and slap somebody.

  519. And then when they do start talking to you, they

  520. say, well, what did you do? You had to have sinned

  521. against God, Job. What did you do? And Job's

  522. sitting over there, I know, thinking, I can't

  523. think of a thing. I offer up sacrifices for my

  524. children. I worship for myself. We give. We've

  525. done everything that we're supposed to do. We

  526. show up at time for worship. I don't know what

  527. I could have done against God. It's not that

  528. you've done anything against God. Hear me now.

  529. Somebody needs to hear the pastor this morning.

  530. You haven't offended God just because you're

  531. going through a rough patch. You haven't made

  532. him mad and you've searched. I always search

  533. myself. I pray, seek God as the Holy Ghost. If

  534. there be any sin in me, purge me and cleanse

  535. me. Convict me, bring it to my knowledge that

  536. I may utter my repentance. Amen. Because I don't

  537. want anything between me and God. And I tell

  538. God that God. Do not let me sin against you.

  539. And if I have, oh, bring it to my mind that I

  540. may repent unto you. And if I can't think of

  541. it, purge me anyway. Cleanse me anyway. Let the

  542. blood that flows from Emmanuel vein, let it cleanse

  543. me, Lord, so that I have not ought against you.

  544. It's not that you've messed up. It could be that

  545. as the enemy against your soul has showed up,

  546. To staff meeting in heaven. And God said to the

  547. devil, have you considered my servant Job? Come

  548. on now. I know we don't like this one, but remember,

  549. things are temporary. Things are temporary. Have

  550. you considered my servant Job? Well, I love the

  551. devil's answer. Well, yeah, I thought about him,

  552. but look, I can't even get to the old boy. You've

  553. got a hedge built up around that boy. I've thought

  554. about him many times. I've walked by Job's compound

  555. and think, man, if I could get in there, I could

  556. really do some work against that old boy. I could

  557. really destroy him. And don't you know that God

  558. knew that the devil wanted at Job so bad? He

  559. knew, but he knew Job too. Have you considered

  560. my servant Job? I have considered him, but if

  561. you'll take that hedge down, I'll have him cursing

  562. you before the month's out. Okay, here's the

  563. line. You leave him alone. His life is mine.

  564. You do whatever you want to, but you cannot take

  565. his life. He is mine. So the devil set out to

  566. do his best. He broke him. He took his family.

  567. He took everything, but he couldn't take his

  568. integrity. Are you hearing me this morning? Are

  569. you listening to me? In his low place when he's

  570. sitting with broken pot shards and scraping scabs

  571. and pus running out of sores that's all over

  572. his body. And his wife sitting across from him

  573. so broken, so in despair because all of her children

  574. are now deceased. And she's in agony. And she

  575. said, Job, are we going to keep doing this? Let's

  576. just curse God and die. But I love the answer

  577. of the man of God. I'm telling you, there's a

  578. word. when there's a man of God that shows up

  579. on the scene. Job said, I'm not going to curse

  580. him, honey. Shall we not receive good at the

  581. hand of God? And shall we not receive the hardships

  582. of life? Can we not take it both? He's still

  583. God. And he said as he bowed his face to the

  584. earth and he began declaring, he said, the Lord

  585. giveth and the Lord taketh away, but blessed

  586. be the name of the Lord. And all his dilemma,

  587. the Bible says, that Job never sinned against

  588. God with his mouth. Hey, he's the God of the

  589. low place. Jump ahead just to prove that it's

  590. temporary, but the time it's all over, said and

  591. done with, God shows up at the lowest point,

  592. and he shows up out of a whirlwind. I call it

  593. a 38 special. Job chapter 38. My Lord. And out

    Job 38 chapter mention

  594. of the whirlwind. Isn't life a whirlwind sometimes?

  595. Don't you feel like you're just getting picked

  596. up and tossed around like a rag doll? Amen. Because

  597. of the hardships and the valleys and the depressions

  598. that you have to go through in life. And out

  599. of all of that, all of his despair, three friends,

  600. amen, just never found anything good to encourage

  601. him with. Bless her heart, Sister Jo was in such

  602. despair, but Job maintained his faith. Amen.

  603. Oh, it wasn't that he didn't complain. Oh, he

  604. complained. He said it cursed be the day it was

  605. announced that a man child was born and mama

  606. named him Job. That day cursed be that day. He

  607. said, oh, that I had a pen that I could carve

  608. and put lead in a stone regretting my birthday.

  609. Now that's pretty much complaining. Right? God's

  610. okay with your complaint. Just don't turn it

  611. into an accusation. Because he's still good.

  612. Temporary they are. He said, after that you have

  613. suffered a while. First Peter, back to there.

  614. Long way around to get back to here. After that

  615. you have suffered a while, he's going to make

  616. you perfect. It's going to establish you. It's

  617. going to strengthen you. These trials are going

  618. to settle you. And then he says this, to him

  619. be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

  620. Can I tell you, every victory that you and I

  621. win out over the enemy in the valleys of life

  622. simply magnifies and glorifies God to a greater

  623. level and a greater degree. When we pick ourselves

  624. up by the bootstraps, we get our lip rolled up

  625. off the ground and declare it, the Lord giveth

  626. and the Lord taketh away, but blessed be the

  627. name of the Lord. Hallelujah. When we get the

  628. resolve to know that we are not alone in our

  629. suffering, the only one. The devil will tell

  630. you you're the only one that's been where you

  631. are and he is lying to you because the brethren

  632. around this world have already accomplished the

  633. afflictions that you and I are dealing with and

  634. going. We're not the first nor will we be the

  635. last as long as the Lord tarries. We're not the

  636. first and we're not the last. It's proven good

  637. things happen to bad people, and bad things happen

  638. to good people. But know this, it changes not

  639. the faithfulness of God. So many people want

  640. to know why God permits and allows, and I mentioned

  641. to you a little bit the other week, why all this

  642. stuff's going on in the world. It's our fault.

  643. It's sin. I said, well, God could do something

  644. about that. He did. He sent Jesus. Oh, you mean

  645. he should make everybody be good. Oh, he's going

  646. to. He's going to. Just don't be in a hurry for

  647. it. Oh, it's going to get better. Amen. Matter

  648. of fact, let me tell you how sad it is. He's

  649. going to remove. Everybody that don't. Now, instead

  650. of that smile I mentioned earlier, our hearts

  651. should have just shattered. Because that means

  652. they're going to be moved from the love and the

  653. joy and the light of God's grace. They're going

  654. to be cast into outer darkness forever and ever.

  655. Where the Bible says there's weeping, wailing,

  656. and gnashing. Where the worm, the flesh eating,

  657. died not. Forever. And ever. And ever, and ever,

  658. and ever, and ever. You get the point. So don't

  659. let despair. Cripple you in your temporary condition.

  660. Valleys have purpose. Now I come, I don't have

  661. my clock today. So I'm just going to preach.

  662. Valleys have purpose. God has a reason for allowing

  663. and permitting and taking us through the valleys

  664. of life. We may not understand them even when

  665. we get through them. We may still have no clue

  666. as to why we had to go through what we went through.

  667. But whether you have a valley that's filled with

  668. doubt, despair, discouragement, defeat, and any

  669. other this or the that can enter into your life.

  670. You have to know that God has a purpose for you

  671. being there. Romans 8, 28 probably defines it

  672. as well as anything. And we know that all things

  673. work together for good. To them that are loving

  674. God and to them who are called according to His

  675. purpose. It may be that the purpose has nothing

  676. to do with you or me. The purpose may be someone

  677. who is watching us. It may be someone else who's

  678. looking on to your faith that you've been testifying

  679. of. And God needs to get a word to them. And

  680. he's going to use you to get it to them. How

  681. many is going to jump in line first for that?

  682. Not many of us. Ooh, ooh, ooh. Use me, God. No,

  683. here, you get in front of me. I'm going to prefer

  684. my brother and nine sisters. That ain't the line

  685. we jump in first for. We jump in that bless me

  686. line. Woo. Put me there up front. Hello. We don't

  687. get in this purpose line, but there is a purpose

  688. for every ordeal of our life, and it may have

  689. nothing to do with us at all. But one thing that

  690. it has to do with you and I is that as we're

  691. going through it, if it's for someone else's

  692. benefit, His grace is to us, not necessarily

  693. to them. You receive the grace to make it through,

  694. that His purpose, He being glorified, you being

  695. lifted. You being equipped, you and I being perfected,

  696. you and I being strengthened, you and I being

  697. established, settled, but it may be to their

  698. deliverance. People are watching our lives. And

  699. how we deal with the low places testifies to

  700. them. More than what we say when we're on the

  701. high places. They don't really watch you too

  702. closely when things are going real good because

  703. we kind of get obnoxious. You know, I like everybody

  704. to know I'm blessed. You know? But they get real

  705. attentive when the wheels fall off. Let's see

  706. what they're going to do now. Let's see where

  707. that joy they come in here every morning to work

  708. is now. Let's see where that song, are they going

  709. to sing that lily of the valley again today?

  710. It's the low places that tell them about God's

  711. grace. They all have purpose. Wherein you greatly

  712. rejoice, though now for a season. Temporary,

  713. somebody say it. Temporary. For a season, if

  714. need be, you are in heaviness. Through manifold

  715. temptation. Manifolds more than one. A manifold

  716. flows many aqueducts into one single aqueduct.

  717. Your car got a manifold unless you're Brother

  718. Randy over here. Brother Randy over here. It

  719. has to do something with the Randy that wants

  720. to drive a battery around. Double A. But mine's

  721. got a manifold on it. Mine just so happens to

  722. be a V8. I got two manifolds on each side that

  723. funnel four cylinders exhaust out to one. Sometimes

  724. we got more than one thing going on at a time

  725. in our life. Sometimes you got more than one

  726. issue. Sometimes we got more than one problem.

  727. Sometimes we got more than one dilemma. You go

  728. over a hill and there's another valley. But if

  729. need be, we're going to make it through there

  730. that the trial of our faith being much more precious

  731. than of gold. What time is it? Huh? Twelve? That

  732. we might be found under praise and honor and

  733. glory at the appearing. There's the purpose.

  734. It shows up again. At the appearing of Jesus

  735. Christ. You know what, this declares a couple

  736. of things. Trials come to help shape us. Like

  737. the fire of a forge. You got to get steel hot

  738. and pliable before you can shape it. And some

  739. of us. Pretty stiff. Takes a little more heat.

  740. Takes a little more heat. I watched that forged

  741. in fire probably too much. And you can see. Those

  742. blacksmith's faces, on their anvil, they'll have

  743. a cloth covering up a piece of steel. And I've

  744. learned some of the ones that they do not want

  745. to fool with. When they pull that cloth off,

  746. and there's this two -inch W2 ball bearing, their

  747. faces just melt. Because they know it's going

  748. to take twice as much heat. It's going to have

  749. to stay in that forge at least two times longer

  750. than spring steel. A leaf spring out from under

  751. your car. And they just melt. But their steel

  752. doesn't. Because they know it has to get really,

  753. really hot. before they can ever begin to shape

  754. it. That's you and I, some of us. Sometimes it

  755. takes some intense heat in order for God to get

  756. the shape in us that he wants to get. But if

  757. we'll not bail out, he'll shape us. Amen? I'm

  758. trying to get there. I'm trying to get to this

  759. page. Understand the enemy's endeavor is to intimidate

  760. in the valleys. I'm not going to go over them,

  761. but there's at least seven different valleys

  762. mentioned throughout Scripture. And the valley

  763. of Elah is one of them. It's the valley where

  764. fierce battles take place. It's where you meet

  765. the giant of your life. It's where Goliath, your

  766. Goliath. David met him there in the valley of

  767. Elah. But he didn't just begrudgingly go into

  768. the valley. Did he? If you read the story of

  769. David and Goliath, you'll see that he hastened.

  770. What's that mean? He ran. He ran to meet his

  771. enemy, his Goliath, the giant of his life. He

  772. ran to meet him head on. And as the enemy was

  773. intimidating all the way down, you're just a

  774. dog. They've sent me a dog. You've sent me a

  775. boy. Who do you think I am? I'm the champion

  776. of Philistia. And you send this. Boy, I'm going

  777. to feed you. Before this day is over, the dogs

  778. and the buzzards are going to pick your bones.

  779. Come on, if you want some of this. David getting

  780. madder by the minute. Because it was that giant

  781. that was defying his God. Amen. He knew who Jehovah

  782. was. He knows what the anointing is on his life.

  783. And it just causes something to stir up in him.

  784. And he started running. He said, no, it's going

  785. to be you today. I'm taking your head today.

  786. You don't even have a sword. I'm going to use

  787. yours. I got all I need. I've got the anointing

  788. that rests upon my life. I've got what I've proven

  789. up to this day. I've taken the bear. I've taken

  790. the lion and any and every other thing that threatened,

  791. and you're going to be no different today because

  792. the battle is not mine. The battle is the Lord's,

  793. and he's going to give me the victory because

  794. it belongs to him. I'm just coming to collect.

  795. I'm just coming to collect. Somebody needs to

  796. get enough audacity and get ready to go collect.

  797. The intimidation works in a couple different

  798. factors. One, he'll tell you, you can't. Secondly,

  799. he'll tell you, God won't. And thirdly, he'll

  800. say, God don't. You can't do it. God won't do

  801. it. And he can't do it. Now, that's all he's

  802. got. He can't do anything about whether God will

  803. or whether God won't. He just says God won't,

  804. don't, and you can't. And what does he know?

  805. Stand to your feet. I'm going to quit. The devil

  806. will try to tell you you can't get out of your

  807. valley. He'll try to tell you you're never getting

  808. out. He's going to try to tell you that God doesn't

  809. care because you're there. But I'm here to tell

  810. you he's the God of the low places. If I would

  811. have kept preaching, I would have got to the

  812. point where I would have finally got around to

  813. telling you the rest of the story. About the

  814. Syrians. When a man of God showed up. And began

  815. to prophesy. Hey look. They made God mad. Thus.

  816. When the man showed up and said, thus saith the

  817. Lord, it's done. Because they said he was only

  818. the God of the hills. And that was the only reason

  819. that we won. He's going to give you a great victory.

  820. And he's going to show them that he's God in

  821. the low places too. It's a beautiful story. Go

  822. read the rest of it. They encamped. They went

  823. down to the valley where they wanted to fight.

  824. Scripture says that they were in two camps, the

  825. children of Israel in two camps, and they looked

  826. like a herd of kids, which are baby goats. And

  827. the Syrians. We're a multitude. But God showed

  828. up and in one day they took out a hundred and

  829. something thousand. Then the bunch that left

  830. and ran off into the city ran up against the

  831. wall and the wall fell on 27 ,000 of them. When

  832. the word of the Lord shows up. It doesn't matter

  833. about your valley. Because he's going to come

  834. in the valley where you're at to let you know,

  835. I'm God down here too. When the enemy says you're

  836. not going to be blessed, when the enemy says

  837. you're not going to grow old, when the enemy

  838. says you're not going to make it, when he looks

  839. and tries to speak against the church and says,

  840. you'll never have revival. The word of the Lord

  841. says, I'll give unto you the keys to the kingdom

  842. of heaven. That's what the word says. And whatsoever

  843. you bind on earth. Man, I was using this one

  844. last night. Be bound in heaven. Whatsoever you

  845. loose, it's going to be loosed. Amen? It's going

  846. to be set free. God's on your side. It declares

  847. it over our lives. His word proclaims to us,

  848. upon this rock, I'll build my church. And the

  849. gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I

  850. don't know if you get the full grasp of it or

  851. not, but you and I are lively stones which build

  852. up a spiritual house. That's us. You and I, we're

  853. the church. Not this building, not any other

  854. building in this city, town. No other building.

  855. You and I. And the gates of hell shall not prevail

  856. against it. I will build my church. He's building

  857. on you and I. He's building on us. He's the God

  858. of your low place. Father, I love you this morning.

  859. I thank you so much for your goodness and grace.

  860. I thank you so much for your anointing and helping

  861. me preach this morning for I sure have felt you

  862. and your anointing. So God, I ask now over the

  863. household of faith. That you empower your people.

  864. And remind us that you're God in the low place.

  865. Quickly this morning, if you're in a low place

  866. and you've been reminded this morning, I want

  867. to pray over you. I want you to just come down

  868. to the front real quick. You're in a low place

  869. in life. You're in a valley. He's God of the

  870. low places. Come on. Doubt, despair, discouraged.

  871. He's still God. He wants you to know this morning

  872. that in your low place, he's going to show up.
