Dependence Day

So, I know you guys have a lot

going on, and so I'm not gonna make

a real long message. It'll be a little

more on the brief side.

But

I do want to touch on the war

of 18 12, which is known as the

second

revolutionary war,

independence where I'm sorry.

It's also known as the un the the

forgotten

more.

So we'll get in that just a minute,

and then

that is gonna tail into...

Do you wanna be independent or dependent on

Christ.

So that is the outline tonight and we'll

see how it goes.

You know, when when Dough was singing that

1 song

the it it brings up, the lord put

on my heart

to

just talk about the heart for just a

minute.

It just started, you know,

after studying it, the heart

You know, I always thought of it being

as this having the right heart towards the

lord, but didn't know exactly what it meant.

I looked it up 1 day. And it

means a heart that is from a guilty

point of view,

knowing that you're guilty

and you are still coming to the judge

or to the authority,

knowing that you are

wrong. You've broken the law, and you're placing

yourself into his

powers to be so to speak. And then

I started thinking about, you know, police officers.

I've heard that they hate it when people

lied to him. And they know they're lying.

You know, if officers ask you a question

and they... This blatantly lie, but they really

appreciate it when you tell them the truth.

I'm like, that's so interesting because our heavenly

father is the exact same way. He loves

when we just, you know, come to him.

You know what? I messed up. I did

this wrong.

Father, here I am, you know,

do what you need to do to me,

and I love you, and I want... You're

you're the you're the the perfect judge

and I'm putting myself at your mercy and

so at contract heart. I don't know. Just

was on my heart to talk about that

for a moment,

because it's just we always need to be

because we are guilty. We do mess up

and

none of us are perfect. No not 1.

And

If you've messed up, just come to Lord,

say Lord. I'm sorry. I messed up.

Maybe will be done in my life.

So whatever that's worth, Praise the Lord, I

hope somebody's receiving that.

Okay. So

I wanted to... Instead of talking about, you

know, for the July Independence day, which is

tomorrow.

You know, we all know about Paul Revere

and the minute, and we've all heard about,

you know, 17 76, and, you know, that's

all real real

well known in our American history. But the

word of 18 12 is not. And it's

a fascinating war.

It took place over about 3 years. A

lot of us in Michigan, Bowman.

A lot of war of 18 12 was

fought in Michigan Detroit and you know, the

the fort of Detroit, I think it was

called.

And so a lot of history in Michigan.

So it's also... It's known as a forgotten

war in the second word of independence.

And reason I'm bringing up this war is

because the Lord is in the prayer, the

Lord has a plant for the Us. He

always has. It's an interesting timing that the

Lord brought the Us on the scene,

you know, the Us did a lot of

wicked things. Yes,

but still the

the basic

Christian principles that we'll see through some of

these generals,

some of the prayers from some of these

generals are just fantastic. And I've read before

prayers from some of the presidents that are

just beautiful prayers,

beautiful speeches that are very biblical based So

there was a lot more

Christianity. A lot more people

following Christ back then in a in a

very deep and real way. There's such person.

I mean, they, they came here literally

for religious freedom.

And once they had it, they exercised it,

and it was fascinating

but the lord did not want the... You

know, we won the first battle, but Britain

was far greater than the young America was.

And so

the War of 18 12 was actually the

first war that the Us declared on another

country.

It wasn't the other way around. Us were

going after Great Britain because they have tried

to put sanctions on us, they're they're seizing

our men. They're seizing, you know, a thousand

of our boats because at the time,

Great Britain was battling Napoleon and France. And

that's another huge interesting fact that there was

a huge distraction for

great Britain,

fighting deployment. An unemployment was AAA vicious vicious

fighter, and

it was huge problem for great britain. As

Might great britain was

a very good problem. So

they didn't wanna really spend a lot of

effort. Have the ability to spend a lot

of effort coming after the Us. But when

the work with napoleon was over, they had

all the resources and battle hardened soldiers and

everything.

They could possibly need, but the timing was

just so that the Us got by and

they didn't come after the Us a third

time.

So,

Britain had a kind of a skeleton,

not as great of a a military as...

You know, it wasn't there all their a

soldiers. Just put it that way. That were

fighting in the Americas.

And,

reason I bring all this up is because

there was there was 3 attacks that were,

you know, major attacks that were proposed

by the British.

1 was just to come in from the

east

land near Michigan and and come in and

destroy the White House. And then the second

attack was gonna be from the north through

Canada, using the Canadians and Indians to fight

against the young Americans. And then the third

and final battle which is supposed to be

the end all for the Us. Was from

the south through New orleans

with

general Jackson

and New Jackson.

And

what's fascinating about? I'm gonna I'm gonna and

read a little story here about

about the war. And you'll see why it's

so fascinating

that we are still standing.

Our military were literally farmers with Pitch forks.

Fighting against

the British empire who ruled the world literally,

and we won.

And it just takes me back to when

King David would go out and fight

and just have these radical wins You know

it it's all because of God's faith it

wasn't as David was a phenomenal soldier. I

mean, he what, I mean, Lord gave him,

you know, incredible strength. On their stories in

Samuel,

and it still blows me away where

I forget who it was exactly, but it

says that he took the blunt end of

his spear

and stab it into this man,

and it went through him all the way

through him with a blunt end.

And you how a strength that takes. I

mean, so who

you know, what the lord is doing with

for these soldiers back then to be such

vicious

winning,

warriors

We don't know. We don't know the full

details of it or the or the extent

of it. But there was something going on.

And I believe a similar thing was happening

in here in the Us. Lord wanted to

preserve the Us. And so he went forward

and what he did in this battle for

preserving.

Okay. So

we have

it start the story of 18 12. So

landing in Benedict Maryland on 08/19/1814,

a British force of roughly 5000 men March

towards Washington.

Washington Dc. An American force of roughly 7000

led by b general William Winder

made a largely pathetic attempt to stop the

British at the battle of Bla,

Maryland on August 20 fourth.

The battle is so poorly planned. The American

forces so confused it turned into an awful

route very quickly,

and the road to Washington Lee wide open

to the British.

So

First battle done. There were 3 like stops

at the Us had created that, like, 3

lines of defense before they got to the

capital.

They wanted to slow the british down, they

was hoping it would take 3 days have

3 days worth of battles.

Well, the British went through all 3 and

a day. And they got to Washington in

a day.

We didn't... They just marched right through.

It was kind of well,

So,

they marched right through. We there was no

defending the

White House.

Once in Washington, the British burned the White

House,

after sitting out, they they had made a

a meal. They were getting, you know, the

heads of cabinet together to have a meal,

and they had to leave because of British

were coming. And they and they split.

Everybody had to leave all the

heads of state, and

it says the meal was prepared

by Dolly Madison,

the staff had to leave. The Cabinet members

had to leave.

And so they sat down the ate this

meal. The British

leaders sat down in the White House and

ate that meal. And they're probably just saying

these Americans, doesn't gonna be the easiest battle

ever,

who knows that the conversation was? I can...

You can... You know, you can really get

going with that.

But I'm sure there's a lot of mock

macquarie.

Really they know what's gonna happen the very

next day.

The war department, the state department, the treasury

department and many other government offices were burned.

And of course, the capital building with the

original library of Congress was destroyed.

The next day, August 20 fifth,

as fires still raged a massive storm hit

Washington.

The driving rain put out most of the

fires threatening the city.

Perhaps more important, the invading British were so

battered and demo,

the storm played a large role in the

decision to cut short the occupation of Washington.

The storm was so fierce that it tore

buildings apart, literally lifting them off their foundation.

The winds uproot trees and knocked men to

the ground. A number of houses collapsed killing

the British soldiers taking shelter therein.

1 British officer reported seeing cannons lifted off

a ground and thrown through the air.

Red coats on the streets of Washington,

trying to enforce a curfew were forced to

live prostate in the mud,

Based on the first firsthand accounts,

weather historians generally agree that the storm that

struck Washington on 08/25/1814

sparked 1 or more tornadoes.

As a storm began to subside,

1 of the British officers in command of

the invasion emerged from his shelter and said

to 1 of the inhabitants of Washington,

Great God, Madam. Is this the kind of

storm to which you are accustomed in this

infer country?

She reply she responded. No, sir. This is

a special

inner position of providence to drive our enemies

from the city.

The quick wit officer shot back, not so,

Madam. It is rather to aid your enemy

in the destruction of your city. Which is

absolutely not true.

But there can be no doubt that the

Tornado that struck Washington

that day did more to save the capital

than the United States army ever did. The

fires were largely extinguished and the British limp

back to their ships.

There's 7 recorded tornadoes in Washington.

3 never made f 1

in the last 200 years. So this

is

not just a random act. It's just a...

It was a a fascinating

thing that the lord did to

to preserve her our little country. And that

was the first attack. That was the first

way from the British, and they got... It

handed to them via weather.

Praise the Lord. Who's the weather man?

Cheated his that's hi man. That's to gives

your ring song. Who's the weather man.

Okay. So we have that attack. Now There's

another attack that came from the north. We...

I was talking about it earlier,

and it lasted

It was an upside down battle. We had

less men than the opposition, and it only

lasted

36 hours and we won.

There's not a whole lot information I I

couldn't find on the on the general that

led those that that battle.

But it was a very quick battle, decisive

and we won, and that was over. So

now the third and final battle that was

tremendous is with Jackson and New orleans.

And so I wanna go and read about

who andrew Jackson

as a man was, what he believed in,

What his who his god was, what

what he was all about.

So,

Andrew Jackson, New Orleans, defender and finale.

Andrew Jackson's national prayer. I was brought up

a rigid

presbyterian, to which I have always adhered. Our

excellent constitution guarantees to everyone 1 freedom of

religion. And Charity tells us, and you know

Charity is a real basis of all true

religion. And Charity

says judge the tree by its fruit. All

Christianity,

believe in a savior in that by and

through him, we must be saved.

We are therefore to consider all good Christians

whose want corresponds with their professions, the presbyterian

and epi opinion,

Baptist, methodist or Roman Catholic that it be

remembered by your grandmother

that no established religion can exist under our

glorious

constitution.

He was fighting.

He was... Evening being proposed

a day

They there was a a proposal... They wanted

to make it a day, a religious day,

and he was like, no. We're not gonna

have a religious. We're not gonna have It

was a day of fasting,

humbling. I think I heard my notes. And

he's like, nope.

He's all, We're not gonna start impress laws

of religion on the people

and as other

countries did.

He's like you'll have the right to serve

the lord, the way you want to, you'll

be able to right to serve

really any God you want to, in the

Us, you'll have religious freedom.

And, you know, in that, of course, we

hope and pray that people will find the

lord, but they will have religious freedom. So

he did not do that.

So let's see. So battle of New Orleans.

On 01/08/1850,

18 15, Jackson and his men heavily outnumbered,

handed the British the most lopsided defeat in

their history.

Inflict a little over 2000 casualties,

including the slain general Pack

in exchange for 71

American casualties.

Yeah. Is that gnarly? 71 to 2000.

Back in those days, that just was unheard

of.

It was it was just unheard of. It

was so barbaric. The the weapons that they

had, knives. It was a... It was like

a 1 to 1 ratio almost always.

71 to 2000.

So huge victory for Jackson.

And I wanted to go through a couple

of chairs that Jackson made just even more

idea of what kind of man was.

There was a young Nashville lawyer. He said,

mister Kart right, do you believe there is

any such place as hell.

As a place of torment.

Reverend

Peter Cart writes said, yes, I do. The

young national lawyer says, well, I thank God.

I have too much good sense to believe

any such thing.

Andrew Jackson.

Well sir, I thank god that there is

such a place of torment as hell.

Young know, Nashville lawyer says, why general Jackson,

what do you want with such a place

of torment as hell?

Andrew Jackson

to put such damned Ras as you are

in

that oppose and verify the Christian religion.

Interesting, He didn't hold any punches on that

now, Did.

Another... Here's a couple of

more from him and then we'll move on

to the dependence or independence. I trust that

God. Here's another

prayer

from Jackson. I trust that. The God of

Isaac and Jacob will protect you and give

you health in my absence.

In him alone, we ought to trust he

alone can preserve and guide us through this

troublesome world, and I am sure he will

hear your prayers.

We are told that the prayers of the

righteous prevail much, and I add mine for

your health and preservation until we meet again.

That was a letter to his wife, Rachel

Jackson 21,

December 18 23.

Another prayer. I could not do otherwise

without transcending the limits prescribed by the constitution

for the president,

and without feeling that I might and some

degree disturb the security which religion nowadays enjoys

in this country in its complete separation from

the political concerns of the general government.

That was a letter to the sign out

of the reformed church of North America,

and this is that explanation Was telling you

about, explaining his refusal of their request that

he

a day of fasting,

humiliation and prayer. He wouldn't do it. He

wouldn't put on the calendar.

God will... Another 1. God will take care

of you for me. I am Gods. I

belong to him. I go, but a short

time before you. And I want to see

you all in heaven both white and black.

And

last but not least from Jackson, When I

have suffered sufficiently, the Lord will take me

to himself. But what are all my suffering

compared to those of the blessed savior? Who

died upon the cursed tree for me, minor

or nothing.

Statement made during his final illness June

18 45.

That's kind of man. The Lord sent into

battle to go fight against the British to

preserve the United States of America.

Man, I just wish we had generals today

that had half that enthusiasm,

and or even knew the lord at all,

and

would do what is right in the side

of the Lord, and the order to give

him favor, and the lord's will would be

done. And... But man, it's just as it's

not the case anymore today now is it?

Are you guys? So that is

the war of 18 12 and not in

know, with independence day tomorrow, like I said,

and I started thinking about, man,

independence Day,

in the... With Lord had mind for the

Us.

And then,

you know, do we wanna be independent

of the Lord or gonna be independent on

the Lord?

Dependent. Amen. We have someone to be dependent

on the lord. You know, it sounds...

Man, when you're depending on somebody else,

it sounds like a sign of weakness.

And that's just our first natural knee jerk

reaction. I hate to say it.

But man, when it comes to depending on

the lord, it is

like,

the best thing ever. So I'm gonna go

through some scriptures,

that are

telling us

what we would be like

if we were

I think you're.

Independent of the Lord. So typically, this would

be a Bc before Christ

person we're gonna be talking about.

So

first 1 is Romans 08:26,

and it says you don't know what to

pray for.

If you are independent of Christ, you don't

even know what to pray for it. So

it's funny people say, I pray all the

time. Why Ask who you pray to? I

just pray.

Yeah. You are just praying. You are... You

don't know what to pray for. You you

don't know. And so they're they're praying to

nobody,

talking to themselves essentially.

And and they don't know what what the,

you know, what to what the outcome is

gonna be, not that we do. But so

Romans 08:26 says now in the same way,

the spirit also helps our weakness but we

do not know what to pray for as

we should. But the spirit himself inter seeds

for us with groan too deep for words,

and he who searches the heart's knows what

the mind of the spirit is.

Because he inter seeds for the saints according

to the will of god.

I love it. At a soon Gnarly,

The Lord, Jesus gets in there,

and he searches our hearts,

and he works with us. He seeds for

us

and

he knows the big picture, so he directs

us. While he's doing that. Why he's in

there inter intercept for us and working with

us, the h bruce is working us.

He has the big picture, so we go

the right way, we do the right thing.

Even though we don't necessarily know what it

is.

You know what I think a really good

manifest of that illustration is when Peter

said, Jesus may never be so

meaning that when you said I'm gonna die,

Peter says, you know, no. You're you're not

gonna die. And she says get behind me

Satan.

Peter was working on his own understanding. And

we do too. But if we seek the

Lord in his will, he's gonna correct us

out of doing things like what Peter did.

As Jesus did

live, you know, manifest.

So

we seek the Lord because we don't know

what to pray for. Not mean you can't

pray for specific things, but

ultimately, there doesn't know the way you want,

Lord,

you know,

if doesn't go the way you want,

No the words listening,

and he's guiding you and he's and he's

inter seating for you, and he's guiding you,

and he's having you go the direction, Did

he want you to go? Uni is not

what you wanted to be or you think

it should be? But if you're seeking him,

it's happening.

It's happening.

Hard didn't you get our heads around.

Next 1, you don't have life.

You don't have life. You don't know, Jesus.

If you're dependent, you don't have life. First

on 05:11 says, and the testimony is this

that God has given us eternal life. And

this life is in his son. The 1

who has the sun has the life, the

1 who does not have the son of

god does not have the life.

To said, in John 10 9, I on

the door. If anyone enters through me, he

will be saved, and I

and will go in and out and find

Pasture. The thief comes

only to steal and kill and destroy. I

came so that you would have life and

have it more abundantly.

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd

lays down his life first sheep.

I find 10 very interesting.

Because people will go through life.

You'll go through life. Whether or without Jesus,

you will go through life. And it says

every knee will confess.

You say they're in this life or the

next life. You will confess jesus Your knee

will bow to him either in this life

or the next life.

But people that go through this life without

Jesus, they just go through life, and they

just Yeah. They get through it, and they

might

make money. They might not, Who knows what

the, you know, but, you know, just... They

was literally to just go through

this thing that could be so

precious

and so full of of

beautiful things,

seeing people saved, and but they just go

through life with, like, no salt, so to

speak.

They go through life. Jesus said I came

that they would have life and have it

more abundantly. No Jesus, you you go through

life. Yes. You go through it abundantly. And.

That's always

made a a big impression on me.

Fall the lord, you'll have an abundant life

You can't hold together. The next 1. C

01:17 says, he is before all things and

in him all things hold together.

You can't save yourself.

Ephesians 2 8. For by grace you have

been saved through faith, and this is not

of yourself.

You start right there for a minute. It's

interesting

how the lord will give you an a

possible situation, like this scripts right here, in

impossible situation,

for by grace, you have been saved through

faith, and this is not of yourself. You

didn't do it.

It is the gift of God, not a

result of works so that no 1 may

boast.

The next also is gonna show you as

an impossible situation with then he gives you

the solution. I love it. In impossible situation,

then solution. And he it does it all

the time. In impossible situation, you can't deal.

You can't achieve it. You can't go through

the eye needle,

but through... With God, all things are possible.

I mean, he always has an impossible. And

then but with him, it's not impossible.

You cannot come to the father.

According to Jesus, no other religion works. John

14 6. I'm the way the truth and

the life

No 1 comes to the father.

No 1 comes to the father.

But by me.

There's a solution. When it comes to the

father. That's the problem, impossibility,

but by me.

There's a solution. Simple solution.

You are condemned.

Romans 8 1. Therefore, there is now no

condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

You can do nothing of spiritual value. If

you are

dependent,

if you're independent of Christ,

You can do nothing of spiritual value. John

15 5. I am the vine. You are

the branches, the 1 who remains in me

and I in him bears much fruit. For

apart from me, you can do nothing.

So you're gonna bear fruit. Everybody. Well, you're

the kingdom or not, you're gonna bear fruit?

What's the fruit gonna be that you are

going to produce

Matthew 07:15,

Matthew 7:15

beware of the false prophets who come to

you in sheep clothing, but inward our raven

wolves.

You will know them by their fruits

Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor

figs from this. Are they?

So every good tree bears good fruit, but

the bad tree bears bad fruit a good

tree cannot bear bad fruit. Working a bad

tree, bear, good fruit. Every tree that does.

Not very good fruit is cut down and

thrown into the fire.

So then you will know them by their

fruits.

Praise the Lord. It's awesome. You know, I

love 1 you meet a brother. I mean,

you can almost tell or sister right away

when you're out in, like, in general public

out doing something whatever.

Just I don't know what it is. It's

just that there's just a demeanor

that someone that loves the lord has that

is different from the rest of the world.

I don't if it's a smile. I don't

know if it's a just being

polite. I don't know what it is, but

there's always

You know, it's very recognizable and I love

it, and that's our fruit, and it happens

all the time. Right?

Let's see. Okay. You cannot come to Jesus

on your own.

No 1 can come to me.

There you go. There's the impossible. No 1

can come to me. You can't come to

me.

You can't come to me.

Unless the father who sent me draws him.

There's a solution

And I will raise him up on the

last day. People who don't honor our God

even today will not honor Jesus.

So

independent of Jesus,

You can't come to him. Dependent on Jesus.

Yeah. You're in.

Your righteousness is... Your righteousness is filthy. Isaiah

64. All of us have become like 1

who is uncle unclear.

And all righteous acts are filthy rags are

like filthy rags. We all s up like

a leaf

and like the wind or sins sweep us

away.

The human heart is a sequel and wicked

Jeremiah 79

The heart is d see above all things

and just be wicked, who can know it,

but the lord will give us take away

our heart heart and give us a heart

of skin. New skin.

You are a dead center, Romans 06:23 for

Romans 6:23

the wages of Sin death,

There you go. You're done. It's impossible. The

wages you sinner death.

You're done. But with Jesus, but the gift

But God. Right? But God.

But the gift of God is eternal life

in Jesus,

Christ our Lord.

Simple.

Is so simple.

The mindset set on flesh death.

Romans 8 6 for the mind set on

the flesh is death

isn't that amazing. But the mindset on the

spirit is life and peace.

Because the mindset on the flesh is hostile

toward God

for it does not subject itself to the

law of God for it is not even

able to do so.

And those who are in the flesh cannot

please God.

As Gnarly.

You know... When it says,

when you are, like, witnessing to somebody, and

you're not in the spirit, and you're in

the flesh.

It says you can become a noisy gong,

a clan symbol.

In that a trip.

If you're doing it on your own, on

your own flesh, on your own understanding, your

own will, your own way, and it's not

the lord doing it, the holy spirit working

through you, you can be

just

annoying.

And that right there tells us, hey, you

know what?

If we're in the flash which you can.

I some of... Have you seen some of

these guys that go out and street witness

and people get their face

and it's like man lord, how that guy

is not getting in the flesh

and

losing it is

amazing

his spirit is keeping that guy cool as

a cucumber.

Ray comfort. You know, you had people like,

just in his... I mean, just

in, you know, spit coming out and and

comfort just stays

by the power of the lord, man, by

the How holy spirit just stays cool.

As like, praise the Lord. But in your

flesh,

you cannot please God.

Romans 03:10

Romans 3:10

says,

as it is written, none

is righteous. No not 1.

No 1 understands, no 1 seeks for God

all have turned aside together, they have become

worthless.

No 1 does good,

not even 1.

Gotta know the Lord. You are def filed

at Mark 7 verse 20. As he was

Mark 7:20

saying, that which comes out of the person,

that is what def files a person

for from within out of the heart of

people come evil thoughts acts of sexual immoral,

immoral morality, T murders, acts of adultery, deeds

of greed, wicked, to seat and dis behavior,

envy sla,

pride and foolish,

all these evil things come from within and

def the person.

The man

independent of Christ is that.

The woman

independent of Christ is that, and it's so

sad.

And so sad. It's our job you guys

to help them become dependent on the lord.

Go where he leads. So let's talk about

being dependent on the lord for a little

bit. See how sweet it is.

John 15 5 says I am the vine.

You are the branches. If you remain in

me and I and you, you will bear

much fruit, Apart from me, you can do

nothing. What we read that before, but that's

another way of looking at it. Proverbs 3,

5 through 6. Trust in the lord with

all your heart and lean not on your

own understanding.

It sounds like being dependent. That's a pretty

good outline there for being dependent.

In all your way to submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight.

Isaiah 26 4 trust in the Lord forever

for the Lord? The Lord himself is the

Rocky eternal.

Man. Why would you wanna be dependent on

the Rocky eternal,

You know

you have nothing to lose at a trip.

Matthew 06:33,

Matthew 6:33

but seek First, his kingdom and his righteousness

and all these things will be given to

you as well.

Philippians 4 6, do not be anxious about

anything, but in every situation by prayer and

petition

with Thanksgiving.

I love that with Thanksgiving right there in

the middle of all that.

Present your request to God and the peace

of God which transcend all understanding will guard

your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Amen.

No doubt. You know, it's so interesting that

with Thanksgiving,

it's like, you know what? Always have a

joyful heart. You know, so funny. Suddenly becomes

a lord you know, when things are, you

know, maybe

you know, difficult,

and we sit there and just kinda of

moaning and grown.

And the lord like, you know what?

You got 1 thing the moaning grown about,

but you have, like,

a thousand things to be thankful for.

And he's just helping us keep it in

proportion I think. Like, hey. Remember, you need

to thankful for some stuff too. You may

not have Mind be go the way you

want him to?

But still be thankful.

Yeah. I love it. Do

philippians, we read that psalm. 55 22. Cashier

your cares on the Lord and he will

sustain you.

He will never

let the righteous be shaken.

Me if he wanna be dependent on the

Lord.

But those who hope in the Lord will

renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles. They
