Please and turn to first timothy chapter 6
1 Timothy 6 chapter mention
-
if you haven't it. And I know most
-
of you are there.
-
But what a powerful book we've been in.
-
I can't believe we are you know,
-
over halfway through this book by the time
-
we get through this message
-
because we will end with verse 11. Lord
-
willing.
-
There's 20 verses in this book. And we
-
looked at 9 and 10 a little bit
-
recently last couple of weeks, but I wanna
-
take a little bit deeper look at 9
-
and 10 and and really... Because these are
-
strong warnings,
-
and we read in first Timothy 6 as
-
Paul instruct Timothy, who a young pastor
-
on how to
-
basically
-
guide the church
-
to teach the church to disciple
-
the new converts and older converts and help
-
them become Christ.
-
And Timothy is amazing because
-
you're getting an insight the letter to the
-
apostle,
-
to Timothy
-
and what he's to instruct. And we learned
-
so much from that as to how where
-
to be the church and howard would to
-
be as Christians.
-
Because there's personal instructions to Timothy as to
-
how he is to be a man of
-
God. But he he's to replicate what's being
-
taught to him personally
-
in the life of the believers, and he's
-
supposed to second Timothy 2 2,
-
commit these teachings to others and there commit
-
them to others and still others, and that's
-
how the church grows. It also instruct how
-
the church is what's supposed to look like
-
regard to elders and dea and government and
-
so forth.
-
But here he's giving a very, very solemn
-
warning,
-
and he's warning about those who turn god
-
or turn
-
God this, in a means to, as a
-
means to financial gain. We talked about that.
-
We've done I've done some extensive teaching against
-
the
-
word faith gospel, the prosperity movement. The money
-
grabbing preacher who are always talking about. Give
-
give give to me and then God make
-
you rich and these guys get super rich
-
and then comes all about money.
-
And we're not gonna be discussing that so
-
much today. We've discussed that quite a bit
-
and we hammer on that off and on
-
because that's
-
such a prevalent false gospel that's out there.
-
But he gives this instruction to Timothy in
-
verse 9, but those who want to get
-
rich
-
Doesn't say
-
as as for the rich, you know, that
-
all the rich
-
are doomed.
-
Otherwise, brother Rich would be in big trouble
-
over here. Get to see, Rich for always
-
from Idaho.
-
But we're calling to be rich in God.
-
Jesus talked about being rich in the Lord.
-
Amen.
-
And
-
when the bible speaks of Riches,
-
sometimes there's just very strong declarations harder for
-
a rich man. Jesus said,
-
get to heaven then it is for candle
-
to get through the I have a needle.
-
And then the disciples was like, well, how
-
can anybody be saved then and
-
and he said, you know, what's impossible with
-
man possible with God.
-
And, of course, Joseph Air,
-
who was a rich man who lent Jesus
-
his garden tomb
-
for 3 days and 3 nights,
-
was a rich man. Nico dim was probably
-
pretty rich, we believe. Job, Abraham, these were
-
rich men
-
they possessed riches, but Riches did not wet.
-
Possess them,
-
that is after they came to know the
-
Lord.
-
Abraham, of course, and
-
Job probably became quite enriched when they knew
-
the Lord, but their pursuit
-
the pursuit was not riches.
-
The pursuit was a Lord.
-
So if you're pursuing the Lord and you're
-
seeking him and you're living for his glory,
-
and the lord bless you
-
financially.
-
You know, just don't let those riches possess
-
you. And he goes on to say later,
-
which we're not gonna really get into
-
to tonight because we're gonna stop at verse
-
11, but it's gonna talk about instructions to
-
those who are rich in the church. How
-
they're supposed to use their wealth to bless
-
others. And how God has given us all
-
things to enjoy.
-
So just as the scriptures warn that we're
-
not supposed to look a scant look down
-
upon those who are poor, James chapter 2.
James 2 chapter mention
-
The scriptures are also clear that we're supposed
-
to make sure that we love all people,
-
amen.
-
And we also don't wanna be en and
-
jealous of those who, you know,
-
you know, come to church on a in
-
a l jet, you know,
-
not that anybody does, but we need to...
-
But at the same time, God instruct those
-
folks
-
who have money to make sure they're living
-
for him. And they're not living to get
-
rich and be rich.
-
So it's... But so it's important because look
-
at the warnings he gives those. And these
-
are... This warnings is pretty heavy. This is
-
for those who want to get rich.
-
Man heavy that that are like, and I'm
-
not talking about, man you're like, you know,
-
wow, Lord, I'd I'd like to Can you
-
give me another job so I can pay
-
my bills, you know? And so I can,
-
you know, bless my children with he, maybe
-
send them the college or something like that?
-
I'm not talking about that. We're talking about
-
where money becomes your God. It becomes the
-
main thing. It becomes your pursuit
-
above and over god.
-
And by the way, money shouldn't even be
-
a close second to the Lord amen.
-
The Lord should be first. But look what
-
he says, but those who want to get
-
rich
-
fall into temptation
-
and a snare
-
and many, not some
-
not a few many
-
foolish and harmful desires,
-
which plunge men into ruin
-
and
-
destruction
-
I mean, he just builds the the case
-
of, you know, of how
-
destructive
-
living for riches is and And if you
-
think, whoa, you know, yeah, You've been over
-
these first a little bit and why don't
-
we move on? Because this is such an
-
important topic.
-
Because when I first dealt with, I wanna
-
do with the word Faith teach teaching the
-
hell, the whole false gospel built around this,
-
that that this scripture just destroys. So it
-
talks about those who believe that god means
-
they will have financial gain,
-
and he calls them corrupt men false teachers.
-
So we had to deal with that. But
-
we also need to make sure when we
-
leave this scripture that we are have a
-
strong, resolve within our hearts not to live
-
for money.
-
Because so many people are in such trouble.
-
And look at what happens. They end up
-
in ruin and destruction verse 10.
-
For the love of money is a root
-
of what.
-
All sorts of evil.
-
I mean, just think of the evils around
-
the world.
-
I mean, you think of the greatest evils
-
around the world. How about sex trafficking? What
-
I think of Evils. I think the sex
-
trafficking is a horrendous evil?
-
Where women,
-
and children,
-
girls and boys are kidnapped
-
by the tens of thousands. I mean, it's
-
in the tens of thousands, perhaps millions.
-
It's a leading
-
cry it's a huge crime here in the
-
United States.
-
And guess what drives that? The love of
-
wet.
-
Love of money.
-
You how many babies have been killed via
-
abortion?
-
Because of the love of money.
-
Well,
-
I won't be able to get that boat.
-
Are hope be able do these drugs or,
-
you know, not saying everybody has abortions for
-
that reason or this reason, but a lot
-
of times it has to do with finances?
-
It really is. Or how about the drug
-
cartel?
-
Is there any money or left for money
-
involved in that sin, which is destroying, you
-
know, what we have over a hundred thousand
-
overdoses a year in the United States of
-
America.
-
Because of fentanyl and other drugs,
-
many of them coming over the border.
-
For love money a root of all sorts
-
of evil. And some by longing for it,
-
there that that wished to be or
-
desi to be longing for it, have wandered
-
wet.
-
They've wandered away from the faith
-
and pierce them through
-
themselves pierce themselves with many grief
-
caused a lot of grief,
-
but they've wandered away from the faith that
-
serious
-
Because if first Timothy chapter 4,
1 Timothy 4 chapter mention
-
couple chapters before this,
-
he says the holy spirit speaks expressly that
-
in the latter days, some will depart from
-
the faith. Keeping hates us inducing spirits and
-
doctors and demons. So he warns that false
-
doctrines could lead people away from the faith.
-
Hey amen, and we've talked about that.
-
But he is saying a desire to be
-
rich,
-
can cause people to wander from the faith,
-
and come on you guys.
-
There's all kinds of people that you probably
-
work with that grew up in church, you
-
know?
-
Many people that
-
Remember, we went if you what don't we...
-
Why don't when did I teach on Sunday?
-
The parable of the wet.
-
Parable is over.
-
Remember the 4 different hearts we looked at.
-
The first heart was what?
-
The Call heart, who good memory.
-
The Call heart or the heart and heart.
-
Right?
-
And that was the 1 who the seed,
-
which represents what's the seed? Word the word
-
of God
-
And the sow is who.
-
Jesus said a man, but we are the
-
body of christ hands in his feet. So
-
he sow through us now. We preach the
-
word. We plant the seed amen.
-
The seed was not able to penetrate that
-
first soil that represents the call heart because
-
it was just so hard and the birds,
-
which represent satan in that parable court Jesus,
-
they steal that see before Germ.
-
And Satan seals the seed to keep people
-
from coming to faith and being saved. Amen.
-
That was the first heart. What was the
-
second heart?
-
The second heart was
-
the
-
first who was Call. The second was... The
-
Rockies coming up The second was was a
-
shallow heart.
-
That was when where it says, the roots
-
were not firm.
-
I mentioned to you in Israel, there's a
-
lot of bedrock,
-
which you'll see if you go on an
-
Israel trip with us. There's just rocks everywhere.
-
There's a lot of bedrock where the soil
-
is just couple inches sick, 2, 3 inch
-
inches sick, thick, and the roots don't go
-
very deep and when sun comes out after
-
they spring up,
-
These plants just die because Don't have deep
-
roots, and we talked about the importance of
-
having deep roots.
-
But these represent
-
those who
-
Well, it doesn't say they were sincere.
-
Certain theology wanna just believe they were ins
-
insecure at first because it doesn't fit their
-
their theology, but it says, they actually received
-
the word with wed. Joy with joy. They're
-
excited about the Lord at first. They had
-
joy.
-
You know?
-
And
-
they believe for a while. And why is
-
the first go back now again to the
-
Call heart? Satan takes a seat out so
-
they will not want and be saved.
-
So Not believe and be saved. So becoming
-
to belief in that context of that parable
-
brings what.
-
Salvation amen.
-
But here, it does say they do believe,
-
which quoted Jesus in this purple brings salvation.
-
And they believe it says for a while,
-
but it times of temptation they fall away.
-
Even though they received the word with joy,
-
So you can't have joy.
-
And and you can leave your first love,
-
the Bible says in revelation chapter 2.
Revelation 2 chapter mention
-
It's very clear. Sad.
-
So you have to beat yourself down like
-
Paul said, so we need become a doc
-
us. You have to take up your cross
-
daily, Amen.
-
And Jesus put Jesus first when you get
-
up in the morning, he's first
-
and and continue to look to him. So
-
there's that
-
Tell heart, then there's that shallow heart. And
-
then after that was the rocky or the
-
crowded heart.
-
The crowded heart.
-
And that is a heart that
-
there's satan can't keep that person from believing.
-
Fact, that person starts out becoming a little
-
bit somewhat fruitful.
-
But
-
and there's life.
-
Second first soil, there's no life. There's no
-
regeneration.
-
Second, so, there's life. There's joy at first,
-
but then there's a death.
-
Third soil. That's the crowded heart. Call heart.
-
Shallow heart, then the crowded heart. What's it
-
crowded with? Remember this, which fits with what
-
we're looking at in first Timothy, interesting timing.
-
Right? Or chapter 8 verse 14 of Luke,
-
the seed which fell among the Thorn. These
-
are the ones who had heard
-
And as they go on their way, they
-
are what, choked with worries and riches and
-
pleasures of this life. I bring no fruit
-
to maturity.
-
Mark chapter 4 verse 19 listen to what
-
Jesus says. But the worries of the world
-
and that the seat of
-
riches or wealth
-
and the desires
-
for the things of this world
-
enter in and choke the word, and it
-
becomes it becomes un.
-
So you don't wanna become un. Second Timothy
-
or second Peter or chapter 1. Talks about
-
adding to your faith, 7 virtue and growing
-
your faith. So you don't become un,
-
you know, near sight and then blind,
-
forgetting that you were saved or purified from
-
your past sins. You can get to the
-
point, According to scripture thus say at the
-
word of God and second, Peter Chapter 1
-
where you forget that you're even saved.
-
Says they forget that they were purified
-
from their past sins.
-
And that's very important to understand because here
-
we see the love of money.
-
Has caused people to what? Wander away from
-
the faith.
-
K?
-
And
-
pierce themselves with many grief.
-
Now it's interesting. It says, in verse 10,
-
notice it says, but plunge men into ruin
-
and destruction.
-
Plunge men into ruin and destruction
-
And I thought, yeah, it's interesting such a
-
powerful, you know, in the Greek when you
-
look at the Greek, and you try to
-
parse the Greek, it kept be ruin and
-
destruction in 2 different things.
-
Many scholars say, well, if they point out
-
it probably means the same thing as just
-
ruin and destruction describing the same, which I
-
prop think is probably correct.
-
You know, describing the final end of these
-
folks, you know?
-
And by the way, plunge men into ruin
-
and destruction.
-
That word plunge was used the first century
-
of ship wreck ships that would go down,
-
and you just see the ship of all
-
these people just go
-
plunge down in into ruin and destruction.
-
And that's a powerful picture.
-
Oh, and by the way, when I was
-
looking at this greek word for destruction,
-
it's used of somebody who was longing to
-
be rich.
-
Who plunged himself like a ship down to
-
hell.
-
In fact, he was nicknamed by Jesus a
-
son of destruction, same Greek word. And that
-
was J,
-
who betrayed Jesus out of greed, have betrayed
-
him with a kiss
-
and plunge himself
-
he hung himself.
-
And the rope or the branch broke, We
-
don't know how exactly it happened. And his...
-
He went down and crane,
-
smashed the bottom of the cliff and out
-
came his bowel. Talk about plunging.
-
Being plunged structure. He's called the son of
-
destruction. Now I was looking at this text,
-
I was like, wow, Lord,
-
this guy, J is such a powerful picture
-
of this warning here.
-
Is not amazing.
-
Now,
-
And as I said, yeah, J has called
-
by Jesus is a son of destruction. And
-
what's interesting
-
about J,
-
some people try to exon J.
-
You know, the liberals, you know, the the
-
no,
-
the No had a gospel called the gospel
-
of J.
-
And I like to read, you know,
-
from time to time. The early church fathers
-
and and how they're fighting no and so
-
forth. And then No basically taught that all
-
creation was evil
-
because it was created by an Evil God.
-
And
-
and that Evil God is not the 1
-
ultimate god and so forth and therefore, since
-
he created the physical universe, everything physical.
-
They said was evil, which is alive from
-
the Pit of hell,
-
And they have a gospel called the Gospel
-
of J,
-
In the Gospel of J, the No 6
-
made the evil guys just like Satan do
-
today. There at Satan.
-
Satan was a hero because he told Eve,
-
she could become god,
-
and was freeing her from Y way to
-
creator.
-
And that didn't work out so long.
-
How actually he led her into bondage in
-
destruction.
-
She wanted power? She wanted be as God.
-
But it's interesting when you think about it,
-
the No cora
-
kane,
-
these are heroes and the no Gospel.
-
The serpent is a hero.
-
J was a hero in the gospel of
-
J, which the church fathers talked about
-
But, you know, the No or I should
-
say liberal scholars said, oh, probably never existed.
-
You know, there's make the no look bad
-
that it was discovered not too many years
-
ago.
-
You know, just... I don't think it was,
-
like, 15 years ago or so 20 years
-
ago it was discovered.
-
Get... That might have my date wrong. I
-
wasn't too long. I was, wow. They found
-
that thing. And when you read through it,
-
I've looked through it. J is a hero,
-
and he... Because he does betray Jesus,
-
but it's to
-
get him crucified, but so we could free
-
him from
-
his body, which he's trapped in a body
-
because the body is a prison os.
-
Rather than a blessing it's a prison.
-
So they twist it. Liberal theologian say, well,
-
J, you know, he probably was the discouraged
-
because
-
this the the revolution that he thought Jesus
-
was bringing to the Earth to overcome the
-
Romans and free Israel from the Roman Hill
-
of oppression.
-
Was back firing, and it wasn't working outright.
-
So he didn't like the way Jesus was
-
going about it, and course, Jesus was talking
-
about going to the cross and stuff. Right,
-
guys. Even Peter struggled with that. Remember.
-
You go, far it for me, You know,
-
Jesus says get behind me satan.
-
So they say, and what J was getting
-
discouraged
-
because they weren't ruling, like he was hoping
-
they'd be ruling sooner
-
And that... We... I don't have a hard
-
time with saying, that. You just might have
-
been getting very discouraged because it wasn't turned
-
out because Jesus was getting closer to fiction
-
and stuff, and He didn't like that idea
-
of how things were gonna turn out. But
-
they taken it a step further and say,
-
and what do wanna do is turn Jesus
-
and have and betray him. So Jesus be
-
forced
-
to call the legions of Angels to save
-
him from rome and build the King of
-
israel on the earth and then J and
-
the other apostles could rule the earth. And
-
that was his desire
-
just to hurry up Jesus kingdom.
-
It's not that really that complicated though, guys.
-
It's not the J gospel no.
-
It's not what some liberals say that he
-
had good motives. It just, you know, was,
-
you know, miss missteps or whatever they're trying
-
to say there.
-
It it's a lot less complicated to that.
-
J problem was greed.
-
It's that simple. Okay?
-
In fact, the scriptures make it clear that
-
god portrays him as that way,
-
Not saying there weren't more complicated things going
-
on, but ultimately,
-
he was a greedy person,
-
and
-
it's important to understand that
-
Jesus addressed that greed in J,
-
you know?
-
And he warned him
-
in fact, it's interesting,
-
J, we read in the gospel of John
-
that the 2 sisters, Mary and Martha, remember
-
them,
-
Mary Bethany,
-
and the 2 sisters
-
we're having a, basically a dinner and honor
-
of Jesus.
-
And,
-
they were doing this because
-
He just resurrected their brother. Sound like a
-
good plan to me. You know, it's honor
-
the 1 who just resurrected Lazarus,
-
and they're having a dinner for him and
-
so forth. And we read in John 12
-
3 that then Mary took a pint of
-
pure na.
-
An expensive perfume, she poured it on Jesus
-
feet and wiped his feet with her hair,
-
and the house was filled with a fragrance
-
of the perfume,
-
John 12 3.
-
That's pretty pretty beautiful.
-
And, you know, we don't have time to
-
get into the story too much, but she's
-
taking this pint of Pure yard which was
-
worth a lot of money,
-
and she breaks it as she pours on
-
his feet.
-
And she wipes his feet with this beautiful,
-
you know aroma
-
perfume that's filling the home.
-
And J is gonna get ticked off about
-
this.
-
Because J really, really, really, his heart hurting
-
for the poor. It could help a lot
-
of poor people. That's what he says basically
-
because the hip and he's pretending,
-
but
-
by the way, and
-
Jesus basically,
-
I love jesus except for Mary this, and
-
he speaks the truth.
-
He Jewish says in versus 4 5, he
-
could read if you want. Why wasn't this
-
perfume sold and the money given to the
-
poor.
-
It was worth a year's wages.
-
She's taking something
-
that's very valuable. Right?
-
And
-
she's using it for Jesus.
-
And that... There's a lot of implications They
-
would have time to get into.
-
And a verse, you know, why was this
-
perfume So forth then, John, when he tells
-
the story, he makes sure we understand,
-
that it was because of J greed that
-
he said this, and John explains, quote, in
-
verse 6, J did not say this because
-
he cared about the poor. But because he
-
was a thief.
-
As keeper the money bag, he used to
-
help himself to what was put into it.
-
K?
-
And then Jesus says to them because they
-
kinda join the other disciples apostles kinda join
-
with J like, yeah, what are you doing?
-
And that Jesus says I love this. I'll
-
leave her alone.
-
It was intended that she just should, save
-
this perfume. For the day of my burial.
-
You will always have the poor among you.
-
Meaning continue to love them administer them. You're
-
gonna have them with you, but you will
-
not always have me
-
he's the son of God with him. He's
-
going to his burial.
-
And
-
and I trip out on this because it
-
just
-
They had their clueless about his burial. Right?
-
Right?
-
They're all tripping out. And and but I've
-
I shared with you before.
-
Through the years 1 my... I love this
-
because
-
what what... How did she have this insight?
-
Very simple
-
because when Martha was badger her about helping
-
her in the kitchen because Jesus was there.
-
Right?
-
And
-
Mary is at Jesus feet
-
talking about it's another it's incident,
-
Jesus says,
-
you know, Martha,
-
she's actually chosen the better part
-
and what has been given to her, will
-
not be taken away from her.
-
So Jesus is discussing is speaking truth. Guess
-
who is guess who has ears to hear
-
Mary Bethany.
-
And while all the disciples don't always have
-
ears to hear about the crucifixion because they
-
don't wanna see Jesus crucified.
-
That's doesn't fit and they're understanding how the
-
kingdom is supposed to come.
-
She gets it.
-
She seems to be the only 1
-
humanly speaking
-
at this point in time.
-
That understands that Jesus is going to
-
die on the cross.
-
Not that he didn't tell the others, but
-
he told them a lot of things, but
-
they had selective hearing. Amen.
-
Now,
-
Judah so,
-
he's just involved... He just wants the money
-
at this point.
-
And he becomes, you know, greedy and more
-
and more greedy as he sees the time
-
getting closer.
-
But keep in mind, he had already begun
-
stealing,
-
from the money bag.
-
So when first Timothy,
1 Timothy 6 chapter mention
-
chapter 6 warns us,
-
god warns
-
through Paul Timothy, Timothy, that warning comes to
-
us,
-
because we're supposed to be reading this is
-
studying it.
-
That greed can lead to
-
ruin and destruction or it will eventually,
-
J is the son of destruction same word.
-
And his life was
-
basically characterized
-
by greed.
-
Now, Jesus warned him over and over again.
-
Jesus
-
Here heard the seat was there on the
-
certain of that,
-
when jesus says in chapter 6 verse 19
-
through 21. Lay out for yourselves treasure on
-
earth where mouth and rust do crept in
-
fees, bacon and steel. But J you too,
-
they have for ourselves treasure have when either
-
mouth or rust corrupt and thieves can't break
-
it in steal.
-
And He was there for that. He was
-
there in Matthew chapter Matthew chapter 6 first
Matthew 6 chapter mention
-
24 His first versus later. When Jesus says,
-
you can't serve 2 masters.
-
Either you're what.
-
Hate the 1 and love the other. You
-
love the 1 hate the other you can't
-
both God and m and. Amen.
-
But guess what? You can't only have 1
-
Lord.
-
You can't have both God and money as
-
your Lord.
-
J chose money as his Lord.
-
It's that simple.
-
He chose to put money first in his
-
life.
-
What a what a sad existence for people
-
who
-
put money first
-
in their lives.
-
Dud was there,
-
when
-
Jesus
-
made a whip and went to the temple
-
and overturn the tables. Right?
-
Took a chair and said and and got
-
the money changers out of the temple
-
and said that you're not to make my
-
my house aid Dan of Robbers, Amen.
-
Because they were all about money.
-
But the thing is is when that was
-
going down, guess what, The disciples all should
-
have been taking note. It's not about money.
-
Jesus warned about those who devour Widows houses
-
as the ph.
-
They devour widows houses. They look at widows
-
as opportunity to exploit them for the money
-
that's left over. These widows who have
-
little,
-
modi of money left from their husband dying
-
or have a lot or somewhere in between
-
the ph he's would scheme to get their
-
money.
-
How wicked is that?
-
Sometimes these widows would have little children
-
and they'd scheme. Jesus said that these guys
-
that do that have the greater judgment.
-
Have greater condemnation than other people.
-
So greed is very, very serious.
-
J was there.
-
When they were talking about the vote of
-
gifts that were given at the temple and
-
how beautiful the temple was, and jesus said
-
not when stone would be standing on the
-
other
-
Jesus... J was there
-
when Jesus talked about
-
the d of riches,
-
crowded out the word of God.
-
J was there
-
when he pointed out when Jesus pointed out
-
to his apostles
-
how that widow
-
they gave the widow might. It's a Widow
-
mite, which is worth just couple pennies.
-
But said she gave more than all the
-
rich folks.
-
Because she gave out of her poverty. She
-
gave everything she had
-
because she was so much wanting to see
-
the word word of the work of God
-
go forward.
-
She was very sac superficial or giving.
-
That would not compute in J brain. Would
-
it? No
-
which is heartbreaking.
-
And praise the Lord, we have a decent
-
amount of people here tonight.
-
You're here because guess what you're doing first,
-
seeking the kingdom of God.
-
And as righteous the say, amen.
-
You know this world's temporary.
-
It's been around for a while, you know
-
it goes quick to you. Amen.
-
He can't take it with you as Paul
-
earlier and versus
-
7 8 and 7 8 before the verses
-
I just read.
-
You bring nothing in the world. You take
-
nothing with you.
-
But we still have to be careful
-
because paul's warning those who are in the
-
faith that if they do this, they can
-
wander away from the faith.
-
He's warning believers.
-
Not warning non believers in the church non
-
believers. You... If you wanna a anomaly, you
-
tell you what longer that we need to
-
get saved. Amen. You don't worry about wandering
-
from the faith. They're not in the faith
-
yet. Amen.
-
So,
-
this is all very, very important.
-
And
-
J man,
-
he betray jesus He throw throat... He shows
-
up
-
with
-
the soldiers,
-
a large crowd that says in Matthew 26
-
47
-
with armed with swords and clubs
-
and Judah spotted Jesus.
-
And then he gave a signal
-
because it's gonna be dark out.
-
And
-
it's gonna be dark and there's be these
-
different disciples, and I wanna... And how are
-
we gonna know who it is.
-
I'll kick him my kiss.
-
How wicked is that, man? So J was
-
gonna betray Jesus with a kiss
-
and going out,
-
once we read that Judah said greetings, rabbi
-
and kissed him. That's Matthew 26 versus 48
-
and 49.
-
And J
-
Jesus says J, are you going to betray
-
me with a kiss?
-
He could translate that, the the the para
-
phrase that. Are you really going to
-
betray me with a kiss, really?
-
Like, how wicked is that? You know?
-
So J was driven
-
in his actions
-
by the love for money.
-
What can you say about our lives by
-
wave application?
-
What are we driven by?
-
Better better yet, who are we led by?
-
Satan in the spirit of the riches of
-
this world
-
are we led by the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
And his love
-
and his goodness and his righteousness, you know?
-
And it's sad because, you know, J
-
Basically, he was driven by
-
this love for money, and he traded
-
the love of Jesus. The infinite love of
-
Christ
-
The if infinite on ending love a Christ
-
he traded for 30 pieces of silver.
-
Which he didn't even keep. He realized what
-
he had done How was sick it was,
-
but he didn't repent.
-
He regretted what he did.
-
But the bible says Godly sorrow leads to
-
repentance which leads to
-
life.
-
Amen, but worldly sorrow leads to
-
death.
-
And worldly Sorrow is your sorrow sorrow because
-
your plan didn't work out.
-
Because it did get your way. Things that
-
work out the way you wanted them to
-
God sorry, you're you're sorry because you've sinned
-
against, thrice Holy God. Amen.
-
You offended the holy 1 of Israel.
-
The creator of all things, the 1 who
-
made you in his image who loves you
-
who sent his son to die for you.
-
You've spur his love, his goodness his grace,
-
his mercy, you spit in his face.
-
It was 1 thing to deny Christ, which
-
was horrible and Peter did that. Right? If
-
other disciples. But it's another thing that ce
-
jesus is out betray with a kiss.
-
That's a whole another level
-
of evil.
-
So Timothy is concerned about those who had
-
wandered from the faith.
-
And we should take heed to this because
-
You don't ever wanna get to the place
-
where you think,
-
yeah. But I'm a chosen man.
-
I could never wander from the faith.
-
I'm a real disciple.
-
I could never want for the faith.
-
I would never become a traitor
-
Paul didn't have that on.
-
Paul said in chapter 10 and chapter 9
-
at first corinthians that him who thinks he
-
stats take he lest he fall.
-
You have to realize the capacity of evil
-
that is in your heart if it's un
-
unsettled.
-
You don't want awesome think your flesh is
-
better than else's is flesh.
-
We don't know all the evil that we
-
are capable of except by the grace of
-
God. Go we, amen. So that's why Paul
-
said in the same section where he says
-
that he thinks he stands, take he lest
-
he fall. That's where he said I beat
-
my body down so after I've preached the
-
gospel with others I myself would not become
-
rejected by god to doc us.
-
And that's why you... You're chosen Well, Julius
-
was chosen.
-
In fact, Luke chapter 16 verse 13 says,
-
And when the day came, he called his
-
disciples
-
to him. Juice was a disciple. Well w
-
I'm a disciple. Juice was a disciple.
-
He called his disciples to him and chose.
-
He was chosen. Chose 12 of them.
-
Whom we also named as apostles.
-
Simon, whom we also named Peter, Andrew Andrew,
-
his brother and James and John and Philip
-
anna Boom and then verse 16 J, the
-
son of James.
-
And J is.
-
Listen into this. This is verse 18 of
-
John or Luke chapter 6. And J is
Luke 6 chapter mention
-
scary.
-
Who became a traitor.
-
Notice it's that? Doesn't say who was a
-
traitor from the time he was chosen. No.
-
Says he became a trader.
-
Okay?
-
It's very possible like the first or the
-
second soil
-
that he received the word with joy
-
that he was excited. He actually followed Jesus
-
for 3 years.
-
But toward the end of those years, he
-
became a trader,
-
and I believe even before he became a
-
trader, he started
-
from Jesus money bag.
-
It shocks me that he kisses Jesus, but
-
then it doesn't shock me because he's already
-
stealing from Jesus.
-
And how disgusting is that, you know?
-
He became a traitor,
-
you know, J?
-
Was given
-
eternal life. He was given to Jesus. In
-
fact, go to John chapter 17,
John 17 chapter mention
-
you'll see this.
-
Because some will say, oh, well Jesus was
-
never saved. Where does it say that?
-
Well, it says in John that Jesus knew
-
who
-
you know,
-
who really believed and who would betray him.
-
Yeah.
-
That's 2 different groups.
-
1 is Plural 1 singular. He knew who
-
didn't really believe
-
plural, those that didn't really believe. And he
-
knew who would betray him That's second. That's
-
secondary class.
-
Knew that J was gonna betray him. It
-
doesn't say that J was a thief from
-
the beginning.
-
He chose... In fact, we read in the
-
gospel counts we read that J was confer
-
the apostolic authority by the power of the
-
holy Spirit to go and do miracles
-
to heal the le to heal the sick
-
you know, those who were lame to cast
-
out demons and he came back with the
-
other apostles, and they all had success.
-
And we read in John chapter 17, go
John 17 chapter mention
-
to john Chapter 17.
John 17 chapter mention
-
John 17.
-
And we read in verses 1 and 2,
-
Jesus high priest sleep prayer. He's praying
-
for his apostles,
-
you know, who gonna percent... Bring the good
-
word out and goes extends that prayer beyond
-
the apostles. Of course, even to us, those
-
who hear the word through their preaching.
-
And for the world, he actually pray for
-
the lost world that they would see the
-
witness of the believers who love 1 another,
-
it come to Christ to understand who he
-
is through our witness.
-
But he pray initially for his apostles
-
and look at chapter 17 verse 1. Jesus
-
spoke these things and lifting up his eyes
-
to heaven. He said this,
-
Father, the hour has come, glorify your son
-
that the son may glorify you.
-
Look at verse 2.
-
Even as you gave him authority over all
-
flesh that as to all whom you have
-
given him to all you what you have
-
what?
-
All whom you have given him,
-
he what.
-
He he he may give eternal life. So
-
when the father is, you know, When the
-
father gives the son,
-
people, he gives them what,
-
eternal life.
-
What does it mean the father gives the
-
son people?
-
Is that some kind of unconditional election where
-
God the father has certain people only? And
-
and then he just gives him the son
-
and you have no choice or salvation. No.
-
No. What happens when you read the gospel,
-
is there certain people that belong to the
-
father before Jesus comes on the scene.
-
There's Adam,
-
not An fire, but niacin
-
Simeon,
-
right, and Anna, for instance, They're Simeon and
-
Anna, take take those 2. They're waiting for
-
the cost of Israel. They're waiting for the
-
messiah to be born. Remember, Adam wants to
-
hold the Messiah. Right? She can't wait. They're
-
just hold them Messiah. They're looking for... They
-
already belong to the father. Amen. There's all
-
sorts of people that already belong to the
-
father. Remember talks about branches that were broken
-
off the Jews because they're un unbelievable, but
-
not all the branches were broken off.
-
There were Jews that were believing in and
-
Jesus says if you believed Moses, you would
-
believed me, there were those who believed in
-
Moses. They belonged to the father, Amen. Amen.
-
So when Jesus came on the scene,
-
The good shepherd, Jesus was given by the
-
father, those that belong to him to Jesus.
-
Okay?
-
It's that simple. But all those that are
-
given to Jesus, he gives what,
-
eat eternal life.
-
But go ahead and look at verse 12.
-
While I was with them, I was keeping
-
them.
-
Praise God. While I was with them, I
-
was keeping them in your name.
-
Which you gave which you've given me,
-
Those was the ones he gave me to
-
her life.
-
And I guarded them and not 1 of
-
them perished
-
but who,
-
the set of tradition
-
that the scriptures would be fulfilled.
-
J was given to Jesus by the father.
-
He was chosen. He was 1 of the
-
12.
-
He was given eternal life. First 2.
-
And eternal life is in the sun by
-
the way. Amen. He's the vine where the
-
branch is a amen. Amen. K. We only
-
have internal life in relation to him. Whether
-
you... Have or not. He has it. He
-
has he is the... He is the way
-
the truth and the life. He is first
-
John chapter 1 verse 1. First John chapter
-
05:19 and 20. He is the eternal life.
-
So
-
look at verse 12 again. While I was
-
with them, I was keeping them in your
-
name,
-
which you have given me and I guarded
-
them and not 1 of them perished, but
-
the son of tradition.
-
So the scriptures would be fulfilled. So he
-
lost none of these apostles
-
except 1
-
that the may be fulfilled.
-
Now was... Of course, it was J
-
choice,
-
Jesus warned him. Even at the last supper.
-
Jesus hat to him the sop. Right?
-
He made the sop available to him.
-
He tried to appeal his conscience.
-
Know, you betray me with a kiss.
-
He said to to J, he says, you
-
know, the 1 that betray me
-
because Jews.
-
It's better for him that him that he
-
would never be born. That's before he betrayed
-
him by the way.
-
J is getting some severe warnings.
-
And
-
there are certain scriptures that reveal that J
-
would commit apostasy.
-
That he would fall away.
-
The scriptures would have to be fulfilled,
-
not because god forced him to do that,
-
but because God knew he would do that.
-
Like, I believe personally
-
be God his sovereignty could've have chosen any
-
12, but he chose J. He chose J
-
because he knew that J would be the
-
kind of guy.
-
Who would first be excited and receive the
-
word with joy,
-
but become a traitor later,
-
and that be perfect to pull off the
-
what, the crucifixion,
-
did he predetermined him and make him do
-
it? Yes or no. No. That was J
-
choice.
-
But he knew even across even against those
-
warnings. He would still choose to be that
-
way because certain people,
-
you know, god knows all things. Amen.
-
Amen In fact, it says in John chapter
John 2 chapter mention
-
2, that Jesus did commit himself to certain
-
people because he knew what was in their
-
hearts.
-
God makes choices based on what he knows
-
about people in their choices.
-
But if you respond to the gospel positively,
-
of course, he'll make good in his word
-
he'll accept you,
-
but he calls you to persevere,
-
and J did not persevere.
-
When it says that the scripture would be
-
fulfilled, what scriptures? Well, their scriptures about b
-
jesus being crucified, course and so forth. But
-
there also specific scriptures
-
that related to
-
Jesus being betrayed.
-
And to really understand this,
-
it gets kinda deep.
-
And but we we can hand we can
-
handle it is,
-
you'll remember
-
a prophecy
-
which ends up being a messi prophecy in
-
Psalm 41
-
regarding J.
-
That's quoted in John chapter 13 verse
-
18, and that's Psalm 41, and it's about
-
the apostle J.
-
However, when you read Psalm 41, it's like,
-
you know don't, realize the props about
-
J
-
because...
-
And it's... Well, it's really about Jesus and
-
J, but really it's also about David and
-
the Hit.
-
Was King David's trusted counselor,
-
his good friend
-
that a great relationship.
-
Nfl ended up turning on David. Right? And
-
up counseling an And how to take his
-
kingdom and destroy David.
-
And it's... And it's of
-
That he says in chapter 41.
-
Even my close friend whom I trusted
-
he shared my bread has lived up his
-
healed against me.
-
David says that about a close friend.
-
Even my close friend,
-
who broke bread with me. We shared fellowship
-
has said that was heel against me.
-
So that was a.
-
Why it if they'll do that by the
-
way?
-
It's a mystery, not really. I think it
-
is, but it's not.
-
Because if you look at it fell in
-
the gene ideologies,
-
he was stabbed in the back by David.
-
Not betrayed by David,
-
but he had...
-
David had sexual relations with Be toshiba.
-
Nfl was her
-
grandfather.
-
K? When you check it out, and just
-
get steep.
-
So if it felt felt betrayed by Dave
-
in the way,
-
you took, you know, my granddaughter from Uri
-
mariah, who he probably really loved because R
-
was such a amount of god. And he
-
felt so let down by David.
-
David Sin had far reaching,
-
you know,
-
consequences that we don't always recognize That's 1
-
of them that we don't talk about much.
-
But that's heavy. And that's way... I love
-
getting together. Are you guys love by say
-
the ball together. So we search the scripts
-
scriptures we learn things together. And... And all,
-
everything just can can come together as you
-
study scripture together. But there's other things that
-
come together here as well. It nfl ends
-
up what,
-
committing suicide.
-
What a picture of J is?
-
David
-
and the David dynasty, right?
-
King of Judah, right?
-
There's another king that's coming down the road,
-
the son of David Amen, who actually dave
-
refers to as his lord because it's talking
-
about the coming masa messiah amen,
-
And there's all these prophecies in the old
-
testament about this prophetic
-
king,
-
which will be the son of David, and
-
these prophecies about how David will reign in
-
the future.
-
But their prophecies ultimately about the David king,
-
the ultimate David.
-
Okay?
-
Jesus, the Lord Jesus.
-
And
-
David's
-
life
-
in many ways the picture of Jesus. Remember
-
is David in Psalm 22,
-
who talks about my God by God, Why
-
has self forsaken me, Right? I'm like a
-
worm. Right? A tow fifth. Right? We have
-
time to get that. But remember the tow
-
fifth worm, you know, that's a picture Jesus
-
on the cross.
-
And he says, you know, they've divided my
-
garments. Right?
-
They've they've, you know, pierce my hands and
-
my feet.
-
That's Psalm 22 about david, but really who's
-
that about?
-
Jesus.
-
So when you read the psalms,
-
oftentimes there's what we call messi psalms.
-
These are prophetic songs about Jesus.
-
And David is singing about what's happened in
-
his life regarding a real person, real event,
-
had fell betray him.
-
Not that David understands fully what he's even
-
writing. Knows what's happened in his life, but
-
the holy spirit saying guess what. There's a
-
prophetic technological
-
trajectory where David's life is being and is
-
acting out of future with what the messiah
-
is going to go through. Are you still
-
with me? Amen. Because Messiah is going to
-
betray him. I'm sorry. The messiah is gonna
-
be betrayed by J.
-
Nfl betray David his close friend.
-
Good relationship with him.
-
Things don't work out the way have felt
-
thinks there should work out with David.
-
He betray him.
-
It phil realizes that he's the robo betray.
-
Commit suicide.
-
J,
-
this verse is quoted of J,
-
in John chapter 13. If you wanna look
John 13 chapter mention
-
at it, go to John chapter 13. Verse
John 13 chapter mention
-
18.
-
Jesus talks about the 1 who's gonna betray
-
him, and he says, in John chapter 13
-
verse 18,
-
He says this. I do not speak of
-
all of you.
-
I know the ones I have chosen,
-
but is that the scripture may be fulfilled?
-
He what.
-
Eats my bread. Has lifted up his heel
-
against me.
-
He's calling Psalm 41 9.
-
What Davis said it at the nfl has
-
happened to me right now. He says.
-
And the picture is
-
that he was at 1 time.
-
He wasn't always a traitor.
-
But guess what? Hit fell lost heart regarding
-
David because things didn't happen the way he
-
thought they should. Right?
-
Judah lost heart. Toward Jesus because things were
-
happened the way he thought they should.
-
Are you with me? Man. So his heart
-
became hard. He began to steal.
-
And then he became a traitor.
-
And it's quite interesting because there's other scriptures
-
about 2 that we're fulfilled in this. Go
-
to acts chapter 1.
Acts 1 chapter mention
-
Acts chapter 1.
Acts 1 chapter mention
-
And we read here. We don't have time
-
to read the whole
-
section acts because I wanna get other versus
-
as well.
-
And
-
is that clock already 08:13?
-
I got 15 minutes.
-
Okay. Lord, helped me.
-
Acts chapter 1 verse 17.
-
Is it... Just beer is going kinda of
-
fast?
-
Just me? Oh, going fast good. Least for
-
some you right.
-
Acts chapter 1 verse 17, it says for
-
he speaking of J
-
was counted among us and received his share
-
in this ministry. He's part of the ministry.
-
K? Look at verse 20.
-
For it is written in the book of
-
psalms. Now this is this a prophecy about
-
J.
-
For his written in the book of Psalms,
-
let his homestead
-
be made desolate
-
and let no 1 dwell in it.
-
And let another man take his place.
-
Wow.
-
And
-
and if you look at, you know, versus
-
24 and 25 and following, and they prayed
-
their praying for juices replacement. And they prayed
-
and said, you Lord,
-
who know the hearts of all men
-
show which 1 of these 2
-
you have chosen. They're picking new apostle to
-
occupy this ministry and a ship from which
-
J what?
-
Turned aside to go to his own place.
-
He turned away.
-
K? He's the 1 that committed the rebellion.
-
But that prophecy when you go look at
-
it,
-
that had... Says, I've kept all those that
-
you given to me, but
-
except that 1. To speaking of J.
-
That the scriptures may be fulfilled.
-
Well, we just looked at 1 Psalm 41,
-
profit that's 1 prophecy. It's also another 1
-
about J in Psalm 69,
-
which is quoted here when we read in
-
verse 20 of acts 1 verse 20, for...
-
It is written in the psalms, let his
-
homestead be made desolate and let
-
him not know 1 dwell in it. Go
-
to Psalm chapter 69 verse 25.
-
Says may their camp be desolate,
-
may non dwell in their tents.
-
K, Jesus.
-
Specifically, points this to J not that there's
-
not more... There's others that will come commit
-
a apostasy, No doubt, but J was the
-
preeminent ap date at this point.
-
At verse 26
-
for they have persecuted him who you yourself
-
have Sm.
-
That's a trip.
-
And they tell of the pain of those
-
whom you have wounded,
-
added in add add an equity David praise
-
to their ini equity.
-
And may they not come into your righteousness.
-
Look at verse 28.
-
May they be what?
-
May they be b out of the book
-
of life.
-
And may they not be recorded with the
-
righteous.
-
So David even praised at J
-
and other ap, so it's such as J
-
that become a post
-
that his name would be played out of
-
the book of life.
-
And by the way, the book of life
-
is not...
-
Everybody's name is not in the book of
-
life guys. Okay.
-
That's why the believers are told to rejoice,
-
not that you had power of the devils
-
but rejoice that your names are written where
-
in heaven amen. Do we tell non believers
-
rejoice that your name's are written in Heaven.
-
No. They're not not written in Heaven. Amen.
-
So warning about being bought out of the
-
book of life are for believers and here
-
it indicates that J because the props about,
-
his name was blood out of the book
-
of life. He went belong to Jesus.
-
K? I say that because some will say,
-
oh, J probably never really loved Jesus. He
-
never really followed him it doesn't say that.
-
I'll see scripture say that.
-
Show me a script scripture that says Jews
-
never really believed.
-
Doesn't say that. It does say he became
-
a traitor.
-
Does say that he was,
-
prophetic speaking, a close friend of Jesus that
-
Jesus trusted in,
-
to a degree.
-
And that he betrayed Jesus,
-
and he broke Jesus heart. You betrayed me
-
with a kiss? He know? This is a
-
real heartache
-
you know? Jesus became possessed by the devil.
-
And you start giving yourself in a sin,
-
you don't even recognize your open yourself up
-
to demonic forces. You start with portraying jesus
-
and put putting money before Jesus, you're open
-
yourself up to demonic entities.
-
Okay? J end up getting possessed
-
by Satan. Right?
-
So
-
He should have come to Jesus, say, have
-
mercy sent.
-
I can't believe what I've done.
-
You know?
-
And
-
but
-
Jesus knew he wouldn't. That's why the prophecies
-
read as they do read.
-
So how many people
-
come to Jesus, planning them becoming ap dates.
-
How many people get married to do a
-
lot of people get married thinking, I don't
-
need get married mcdonald's just divorce my wife
-
a few days later. They will typically get
-
married thinking that way either.
-
So people do wander though from the faith.
-
So how can we be
-
make sure that we don't wander from the
-
faith. Look at verse 11.
-
First timothy chapter 6,
-
verse 11.
-
But flee from these things,
-
you man of God and pursue righteousness,
-
god
-
faith,
-
love, perseverance
-
and gentleness.
-
And then at verse 12, he's gonna say
-
fight the good fight. Lay hold on eternal
-
life.
-
Amen? Amen
-
eternal life is something that you lay hold
-
on. It's something that you have relationship with.
-
Amen.
-
So it's interesting that we we see these
-
these
-
incredible
-
warnings and promises and But it's interesting, here
-
says that we're supposed to flee
-
these things? What things, the love of money?
-
The doctrines that god means will be financially
-
rich, those kinds of things.
-
The word flea and agree the a few
-
days a the greek word. It means to
-
flee to escape to Shu, to run away
-
by application to shu,
-
Joseph literally applied that idea Fleeing sydney when
-
Pot wife tried to seduce him and married
-
women, he literally fled
-
Right? For his life, we need to flee
-
the desire to become rich and put riches
-
before Jesus and run from that thought. Amen.
-
If you're involved in that kind of thinking
-
you need to
-
expel that from your heart and your mind.
-
But Joe, don't, I, I'm not supposed to
-
live earn a living them. I mean, I
-
could use money to glorify god, and and
-
I... What about, you know, taking care of
-
my bills and everything. That's fine.
-
As long as you're not making money your
-
God. You're not putting money first. Amen. That's
-
what we're talking about here. K?
-
So
-
so we're supposed to flee temptation, but knows
-
what he says it's to flee these things
-
but pursue wet.
-
Supposed to pursue righteousness.
-
Okay? And the word pursue there is die
-
okay in the Greek and it means to
-
to be relentless. It means it's in the
-
active voice. In other words, it's a daily
-
choice that you're constantly pursuing these things. What
-
are you pursuing? You're pursuing righteousness.
-
Jesus said in Matthew chick 06:33,
-
seek first to what
-
the king of God,
-
add his what,
-
righteousness.
-
And all these things to be added to
-
you. That's the cool thing. We seek first
-
of father and his kingdom, and we seek
-
the king who god it his what, righteousness
-
and then all these things are added to
-
us.
-
That's a deal. You just put God first,
-
and he's gonna take care of you amen.
-
You're gonna find yourself with a decent enough
-
job to pay bills.
-
Well, I'm seeking it first. I'm putting it
-
first, but I'm still flipping burgers after 35
-
years. Well, and also helps to pray and
-
say, Lord, I could use another job and
-
seek the Lord to be diligent about those
-
things too. Amen,
-
or maybe God wants you to witness to
-
the people where you're at. And all say
-
it's like, wow. There's a revival going up
-
my Mcdonald's, man. All these people know Jesus.
-
I don't know what he's got planned for
-
you, but I know he's got great plans,
-
and I know he doesn't fail us.
-
Psalm 0 2 or 01:01 verse 2. I
-
will be careful to lead a blame life.
-
When will you come to me? I will
-
conduct the affairs of my house with a
-
blame heart. We're supposed to seek to be
-
righteous before the lord,
-
following his word. And then he says to
-
pursue what. God.
-
The Greek word is uc see.
-
And it's an interesting word because it's from
-
you, which means well and and sub, which
-
is means to reverence or to fear God.
-
And it literally... It literally means well worship.
-
Means to reverence or to to to to
-
serve God and fear in a in a
-
in a in a well... To do it
-
do it in a well way, you know,
-
well worship is sign of an interesting translation.
-
But it means that we should be people
-
that we're supposed to be pursuing not money
-
in riches, we're supposed to be pursuing the
-
fear of God, serving God in a revere
-
way, being aware of God at all of
-
our dealings.
-
Recognizing that he's gonna bring all things into
-
judgment.
-
Recognizing that he is the living god. He's
-
in our very midst. He sees everything. He's
-
he's here but he's a loving Gracious god
-
who gave himself for us, but also demands
-
that we truly follow him and says to
-
us in Luke chapter 6. Why do you
Luke 6 chapter mention
-
call me Lord Lord and not obey the
-
things I say that we need to be
-
serious about following him and revere him, Amen?
-
So it's a very interesting word it's to
-
have an awareness of God's holy presence,
-
a fear of God that flee from sin
-
And by the way, we don't get god,
-
you know, which is what this word I'm
-
talking about right now means Eu see. We
-
don't get it by osmosis.
-
You know?
-
You just don't come out of the shower.
-
And I said, oh, I got. No. It's
-
something you pursue.
-
In fact, We read in first timothy chapter
-
478, We studied it actually, where we're told
-
that we're supposed to discipline
-
ourselves for the purpose of god this.
-
What are we doing today?
-
We got together for a mid week fellowship,
-
Amen,
-
and we're learning to fear the lord more.
-
We leave here what we, I don't want
-
be like J.
-
I wanna be more like Jesus and on
-
wanna a pursue Lord amen. So we grow
-
in God. So you're doing it right now.
-
You're pursuing God is by even being here
-
right now if your heart is to grow
-
in the lord, which I believe it is.
-
We pray Hall would be thy name, amen.
-
We pray that he'd show his name as
-
being holy.
-
You know? And we also have to use
-
wisdom.
-
Right now, as I speak, the Rn, the
-
Republican national convention.
-
See what's going on there. They just decided
-
that they're going to get rid of their
-
platform
-
that the party stands for a nationwide
-
ban on killing babies. They don't wanna present
-
that anymore.
-
And Jd Vance who's Ohio... Say, House senator,
-
maybe, end up being,
-
Trump's pick for
-
vice president.
-
He's profess Christian. He says he just... Now
-
he agrees with Trump that the abortion pill,
-
I call the kill pill. That should be
-
legal, you know, for... That should be legal
-
throughout the United States.
-
That's not biblical, guys. Okay. That's not Christian.
-
Don't confuse a republican party as a godly
-
righteous party.
-
Well, it's way better than the democrats.
-
I don't disagree screw that at all.
-
But
-
I'm not comparing it to the Democrats. I'm
-
comparing it to what God's word says, and
-
you need to know our kingdom then we
-
seek his kingdom. His righteousness, amen. The kin
-
of this world is not the kingdom of
-
a Christ.
-
Amen.
-
The next thing on the list, which is
-
is pursue what.
-
Faith of the international standard version in the
-
the net viable T, both translated faithfulness, the
-
word pissed could be translated faith or faithfulness.
-
I believe in this context The best translation
-
is faithfulness, we're supposed to be pursuing
-
faithfulness, you know, which is a fruit of
-
the spirit by the way, amen. So as
-
we pursue Jesus, we pray, we seek him,
-
we learn God's word. We become more and
-
more faithful and more and more godly
-
K. The next word is to pursue what,
-
love. The Greek word Ag agave there.
-
K?
-
The agave. The the the the sold out
-
kind of love of god.
-
And we don't have... I wish we had
-
times to just get into each of these
-
words, but we'll will never get out of
-
first Timothy 6 if we do that. I
-
do a whole message on every word here,
-
but
-
A copy.
-
It's the word that Jesus used in John
-
03:16 when he said for God so wet.
-
Love the world that he went.
-
Gave has only beg got son
-
that whoever believes them shall not Perish but
-
have ever last life. It's the word that
-
jesus... That Paul used when he says husband's
-
husband's
-
love your wives are guppy. Right?
-
The Greek verb there as as Christ love
-
the church.
-
As he gave himself for. And so it's
-
sac love. God Soul world he gave. So
-
he's calling us to have that sac
-
love.
-
It's the word that's used for love in
-
first Corinthians as chapter 13, which describes love
-
as being sac official and selfless Amen.
-
So we're supposed to be pursuing
-
being more Christ like in serving 1 another.
-
Laying our lives out for another. Amen.
-
So if I have the mindset, and I
-
have the mind of Christ that, hey, at
-
Bless hope Chapel, and any other fellowship I
-
visit among my brothers and sisters Wherever I
-
know them, I wanna serve them, I wanna
-
wash their feet I wanna be like Jesus.
-
I wanna be a servant of all. Jesus
-
said if you wanna be great in my
-
kingdom.
-
God's skin king, you gotta be a servant
-
of all Amen. I wanna at wash, I
-
wanna be a servant.
-
That's why even though I feel like sleeping
-
right now, I'd rather be here loving you
-
guys and pour it out. And I could
-
sleep later. Okay? Our lives should be spent,
-
loving 1 another. Okay? Now next time, he
-
he didn't come this time if he must
-
been really sick. Doesn't have that much loved
-
love then. No. There's times you just gotta
-
be home okay.
-
So where I'll growing into, you know? And
-
that's not very loving if I get everybody's
-
sick either. But
-
you guys, we need to pursue... So if
-
you're pursuing these things. Right? You don't, have
-
I've time to pursue riches.
-
Again, we... Most of us. I mean,
-
almost all of everybody here works for living
-
to 1 1 way or another. Right? So,
-
yeah, we are going to work because we
-
need put bread on the table. Hey amen
-
and pair our bills and so forth. But
-
we don't live for things. We live for
-
Jesus.
-
Seek first it can of God and his
-
righteousness and all these things will be wet.
-
Added to attitude you it's it's simple math
-
guys. It's not that complex.
-
It's not that complex.
-
And then seek what... And then what pursue
-
what?
-
Pursue what?
-
Perseverance.
-
Thanks said pursue bitterness. I'm like, I know
-
her She say that. She's like the least
-
better person. I know. You know,
-
Pursue perseverance,
-
Meaning, when you're doing these things, continue to
-
pursue the idea is continue to pursue them
-
and pursue the reality of never giving up
-
men.
-
Hoop men or Hoop Mona is the Greek
-
word. Hoop Hoop is the word
-
is to, like, be underneath something and Mona
-
is from, like men, which means to abide
-
to continue
-
men.
-
It's this... It's a a favorite word of
-
of John. A favorite word of Jesus when
-
he talks about how we need to biden
-
men in Christ.
-
Hoop
-
or Mona, Mona has to do with enduring
-
under trial, you continue even under hard times.
-
Amen?
-
In fact, let's look at some scriptures really
-
quick on that. If you look up at
-
the screen,
-
you'll see John 15
-
we'll start with John 15.
-
And John 15, many of you know that.
-
And that's where Jesus said on the vine
-
and you're the branches.
-
You know?
-
And
-
he says to them in verses 1 and
-
2. He's not J, by the way, in
-
chapter 13 of John already went to the
-
betrayed Jesus.
-
Is gone.
-
And John 15, he warns the arrested of
-
the apostles
-
because you are clean through the word that
-
have spoken to you. Says on the vine,
-
you know,
-
he says the the father's the vine dresser,
-
but he says you're the branches.
-
He says abide me, you'll bear much fruit.
-
Amen.
-
So the word of abide is used over
-
and over again, rest the Greek word there
-
men
-
related to the word we're looking at here
-
at perseverance.
-
Fact, look at the next
-
slide, and we see... If you could jump
-
down in the next slide,
-
15,
-
5 and 6,
-
Jesus just talks about if they biden it
-
him, they'll bear much fruit. But says if
-
they do not abide him what.
-
They don't remain in him the vine. That's
-
attached to the branch,
-
By the way, he warning fake branches or
-
is he or is he torn telling him...
-
He's talking to his who, apostles here. They're
-
not fake branches.
-
K?
-
He's only his 11 apostles, and they're out...
-
No 1 can dispute that they're saved. There
-
are chosen apostles. He says he warns them
-
if they don't abide, they'll dry up
-
like branches
-
that we thrown in the fire and burned.
-
Amen. That's that Greek word men. Let's look
-
at the next scripture.
-
Jesus says, or or I'm sorry, the author
-
Hebrews says, for you have need of endurance.
-
You. We need of what? Endurance though that
-
when you
-
have done the will of god, you may
-
what.
-
Perceive what is promised. So you wanna make
-
sure you persevere. Amen, and pursue perseverance. Because
-
if you don't have perseverance, you're not going
-
to receive
-
the end reward or I should say the
-
end promise, which is... Well, let's go to
-
the next 1.
-
On the next scripture Hebrews 12 1. Therefore
-
since you, we are surrounded by such a
-
great
-
Therefore since were surrounded by such a great
-
cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything
-
that hinder.
-
Right?
-
And the sin that's so easily ent.
-
And let us run with what.
-
You know, If that greek word is,
-
Hoop, same Greek word that's used in first
1 Timothy 6 chapter mention
-
timothy, chapter 6. Verse 11. That we're supposed
-
to be pursuing. And then it shows that
-
Jesus is our is our example. Let us
-
run with perseverance,
-
the race marked out for us, fixing our
-
eyes on who.
-
Jesus.
-
Okay?
-
And you can go the next slide because
-
end of verse 3 because I'm right out
-
of time here, it says at the very
-
end so that you will not grow what.
-
Weary and lose heart. Keep your eyes on
-
Jesus.
-
How can I make sure I persevere, Joe,
-
how can I persevere
-
pursue perseverance
-
pursue Jesus and don't stop?
-
And look at him as your example,
-
And then guess what, then you won't grow
-
weary and lose heart. You me mean I'll
-
never get tired. No. He'll grow weary from
-
time time, but you won't lose heart, ultimately
-
amen because those who wait on the Lord
-
and wet. He though... The Lord will renew
-
their strength. Amen.
-
And and and it's just awesome. Look at
-
the next 1, Hebrews chapter 10 versus 38
Hebrews 10 chapter mention
-
and 39.
-
Says now the just shall live by faith.
-
That's those who are justified. Those who've been
-
raped right with by Christ's blood. Amen? Are
-
you justified? That's he was talking about. The
-
judge shall live by faith. Not just come
-
to Christ by faith, but live by faith,
-
but if,
-
big word there.
-
If
-
he draws back, who? The justified 1.
-
If the 1 who's been justified.
-
If he, that's the earliest only time, I
-
the justified right here, But if he draws
-
back my soul will have no pleasure in
-
him. But we are not of those who
-
we're not of those. There are those who
-
do. We're not of those who draw back
-
to tradition like J.
-
Some do drive back to tradition, but of
-
what, those who what,
-
believe to the what,
-
saving of the soul final salvation. Amen?
-
So we need to hold fast to the
-
faith.
-
And
-
he's confident that these hebrew believers will make
-
it.
-
Why?
-
Because right before this, he says, you lost
-
your homes, you know, some of them, you
-
visit the prisons, you lost homes, but you
-
know you have a some of you of
-
lost, you have an a abiding hope in
-
heaven.
-
So they persevere a long way.
-
But at... But they're... At the same time
-
he recognize recognizes also what. Those
-
who did draw back to prediction. So both
-
realities are true.
-
Jesus hot said in Matthew 05:13. If salt...
-
He says yours a salt through the earth,
-
but if a salt used loses its flavor,
-
what's it good for?
-
Good for the done pile be tram under
-
foot. Right?
-
He said in Luke chapter 9 verse 62,
-
no 1 who after putting his hand in
-
the plow and looking back is fit for
-
the king of God. And last week, I
-
dealt with Lost wife and Jesus weren't his
-
apostles. His disciples. Remember lot's wife.
-
So this all ties into the parable of
-
the solar
-
because remember it was the fourth soil,
-
the good and honest, hearted people,
-
These are people that
-
humble themselves for lord recognizing they have no
-
merit of themselves
-
and says they hold fast to those seed.
-
Right? The seed is a word. Right? They
-
hold fast the seed.
-
They don't give in.
-
They persevere.
-
And they bring forth fruit with perseverance. It
-
says, that's gotta be us, guys.
-
That's what we have to choose to do.
-
In fact, look at first, John chapter 3.
John 3 chapter mention
-
First 9.
-
This is powerful. You won't see this a
-
lot of churches because people don't wanna preach,
-
but there it is, man, The 1 who
-
practices sin is of the devil
-
because the devil has been sitting from the
-
very start.
-
This is why the son of God was
-
revealed to what,
-
destroy the works of the devil. Isn't that
-
right?
-
Anyone born of God in the Greek word,
-
by the way in the Greek it's in
-
the perfect tense.
-
Born of God. It means anyone who is
-
born of God and continues to stand born
-
of god could remains born of God.
-
Anyone who is born of God continues he's
-
a stand born of God. Perfect tense.
-
Refuses to practice sin because god's wet.
-
God's seed. There it is. What's the seed?
-
It's a word of God
-
because God's seed, his word abide in him,
-
meadows in him. He can't go on city
-
because he has been born of God. He
-
continues. He's born of god. He continues to
-
be born of God.
-
It doesn't say he this more of God
-
never commits As, doesn't it.
-
But it's talking about track what a sin.
-
John says sin is trans
-
of the law. Rebellion against God's law. So
-
if you're practicing sin, that means you're living
-
and rebellion to God
-
because you'll look at this anyway, I'm not
-
perfect. No. Nobody's. Here perfect.
-
And John says at first John 2 1
-
if anyone sins,
-
you know, Write these things that you send
-
not.
-
But if anyone does Cindy has advocate with
-
father Jesus Christ at the right to amen,
-
and John is a first John 2919.
-
If we confess our since he's faithful and
-
what, just to what.
-
Forgive us our sins and cleanse from all
-
the righteous the same amen. So if you
-
fall short, you go to Lord. Right? But
-
you, don't live in rebellion.
-
To God. Amen.
-
First John chapter 2, verse 24 says let
-
that remain in you, what you heard from
-
the beginning.
-
That's the seed, guys, the gospel, the word.
-
First John 02:24.
-
Let that remain in you, men. There is
-
again.
-
Remaining you what you heard for the beginning
-
of the gospel.
-
And then he says, and you receive
-
the promise.
-
It says let thought remaining you what you
-
heard for forgetting and you receive the promise,
-
eternal life. He says, and you will remain
-
in the father and then the son, because
-
you'll be a abide in them, you receive
-
the promise, eternal life. These things have written
-
concerning those who trying to seduce you meaning
-
those people, trying to deceive you, do not
-
leave the word of God. Amen. And I'll
-
just close by saying the last thing he
-
mentions in verse 11,
-
We went a little bit late. I wanna
-
make sure I get this done. In verse
-
11,
-
he says pursue what.
-
Patience. And that greek word for patience there
-
is related to pros,
-
and that's the word where Jesus says the
-
meek will inherit the earth.
-
K? We're supposed to be or gentleness,
-
pursue gentleness Is... I'm sorry, it's not patients
-
there. It's gentleness.
-
And you could transit meekness, but meekness does
-
not mean weakness.
-
K.
-
In fact, the word that Jesus or that
-
Paul uses there, and the word that Jesus
-
also uses, which is related to this word
-
refers to being calm,
-
during
-
confusion,
-
commotion, hard times. That takes a strong person.
-
In fact, the root of that word that
-
Paul uses there that's translated meekness is used
-
for Alexander, the great horse.
-
Which has been broken.
-
It's humble It's submitted to
-
Alexander the great,
-
but it's a strong and powerful horse. That's
-
common in times of war.
-
That's what we're calling to be for Jesus
-
amen. Don't freak out when everything freaking out
-
around. You everybody else is say, I'm gonna
-
say calm because Jesus is king. Amen.
-
He is my Lord. He's gonna get me
-
through this, and I'm going to exercise Hoop.
-
I'm gonna continue to put him first in
-
his kingdom at his righteous the amen.
-
Alright. Can we please stand?
