  1. Praise God.

  2. Go please 2 first Timothy,

    1 Timothy 6 chapter mention

  3. chapter

  4. 6

  5. We're in the last chapter of first Timothy

  6. and we're over halfway through, believe or not.

  7. We won't be in this book too much

  8. longer.

  9. Timothy, last week, we kinda left off where

  10. Timothy was told to flee,

  11. certain things and to pursue

  12. you know, the Lord god and so forth.

  13. And we wanted to read those verses again,

  14. but just to put you remember it's what

  15. we left off of briefly

  16. Timothy has been instructing or Paul has been

  17. instructing Timothy

  18. to watch out for those

  19. who have more of an interest in

  20. controversial issues and for them god is a

  21. means of financial gain.

  22. And then he gives really powerful instruction

  23. about the believer relationship to riches and how

  24. disaster is is it is if you put

  25. money first to your life. If your goal

  26. is to be rich and how that's not

  27. the call that God's given to us. And

  28. that's not even the blessed life really. He

  29. talks about how those who want to be

  30. rich plunge themselves into many painful grief and

  31. and ultimately destruction and they wander away from

  32. the faith.

  33. So he... As he's instructing Timothy in that

  34. regard,

  35. that he tells him to flee those things,

  36. but to pursue god this and he mentions

  37. about 5 things that he's supposed to pursue.

  38. He calls him by the way, oh man

  39. of God.

  40. Which is interesting because you see the term

  41. man of God throughout the old testament in

  42. a number of times. That's the first and

  43. only time you see that term

  44. man of god use of someone in the

  45. new testament.

  46. And Paul is calling Timothy, a man of

  47. god. Hey, Amen, I love that.

  48. And Timothy indeed is a wonderful

  49. man of God and Paul's is helping him

  50. grow.

  51. But now when we get to verse 12,

  52. Paul is telling Timothy to fight the good

  53. fight of the faith

  54. to lay hold on eternal life.

  55. To what you were called in the presence

  56. of many witnesses.

  57. And and then in verse 13, he

  58. he gets says something incredibly

  59. powerful.

  60. As I was working through this.

  61. I was praying about and I was working

  62. on it and I wanted to it all

  63. the way through verse 16,

  64. And then I was, like man, I don't

  65. even know if I can get out of

  66. verse 12.

  67. But I know we're gonna get to verse

  68. 13 and finish verse 13 today, Lord Willing.

  69. Unless I go through a Trump situation and

  70. somebody actually hits me, but, you know, y'all

  71. always gotta trust the Lord.

  72. Thank you, Jesus. I'll be with you, Lord.

  73. But

  74. anyway, it's kind of a trip when you

  75. think about it because when you look at

  76. this verse this

  77. this command,

  78. fight the good fight of the faith. Right?

  79. Fight the good fight of faith.

  80. By the way, our ministry, we have a

  81. ministry that had long before blessed started, you

  82. know, going way back,

  83. called good fight ministries.

  84. And it's taken from first Timothy 01:18 and

    1 Timothy 1:18

  85. first Timothy 06:12 right here

    1 Timothy 6:12

  86. because God calls Timothy twice to fight the

  87. good fight amen.

  88. And Timothy is told that second Timothy 2

  89. 2 to teach others what Paul taught him.

  90. So they could teach other faithful men. So

  91. we're also supposed to be fighting the good

  92. fight amen.

  93. And this instruction is really for all of

  94. us.

  95. So let's look at this and and verse

  96. 12 is just so packed.

  97. But if we look at this

  98. Timothy is being given in versus 12 and

  99. 13, which we're gonna examine today. And we're

  100. taking a deep dive.

  101. I mean,

  102. I praise God. I mean, I I love

  103. to get in the word with you guys,

  104. and I praise God that you are people

  105. of the word.

  106. I remember when I was young Christian. I

  107. was under a certain church, and I was

  108. just desi

  109. just...

  110. I wish and hope Lord. Hope I could

  111. find a fellowship where they just devour the

  112. word and teach sound doctrine and and it's

  113. strong and it's powerful, and it's it's and

  114. you can grow in it. And it was

  115. hard to find, but I found ones right

  116. here.

  117. And I think you guys I just have

  118. to say we should

  119. praise God that we have his word that

  120. we could dive into together.

  121. And it's interesting

  122. because

  123. He gives 3 reasons as to why Timothy

  124. is to persevere

  125. in his faith

  126. in verses 12 and 13.

  127. He gives 3 reasons that Timothy is to

  128. persevere

  129. in

  130. his faith. And number 1, it's because God

  131. has called him to eternal life.

  132. And then we look at verse 12, fight

  133. the good fight of faith take hold of

  134. the eternal life to which you were called,

  135. and you were may... And you made the

  136. good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

  137. Now,

  138. let's just break this down, fight the good

  139. fight.

  140. Right?

  141. Fight the good fight. And the Greek word

  142. there is ag.

  143. It's related to the Greek word ag my.

  144. Which is related to and from which we

  145. get the word

  146. Ag,

  147. alpha, Ag, you know, or you can... It

  148. say Ae, but it's Ag.

  149. If we pronounce it how the acceptable way

  150. to pronounce the Koi Greek is today because

  151. we don't know how exactly pronounce it back

  152. then.

  153. But an Was a arena,

  154. I, a were at athletic or, you know,

  155. Olympic contest took place in those days The

  156. word also

  157. refers to

  158. more generally as, you know, fighting,

  159. take it to stand. We get the re...

  160. Word ago

  161. it right? Agony from this word, a

  162. or ago I.

  163. So we're called to fight to ago

  164. over something here.

  165. And it's... And I love that he calls...

  166. He says fight that what, fight.

  167. The good fight. That tells me that there's

  168. a lot of fights people that that people

  169. have that are not good fights.

  170. I remember far as a Christian.

  171. I got fights at times. I was a

  172. brawl type of guy. And they were... None

  173. of them were good fights, you know?

  174. I... And I just remember growing up in

  175. a household that was very loud.

  176. You know, with

  177. 7 people, including the 5 kids, and it

  178. was 1 of the louder houses if not

  179. the allowed house on the block. We're always

  180. fighting about something, You know? Dad was gone

  181. at work, then mom became a nurse and

  182. she was gone, and we're out each other's

  183. throats quite often.

  184. And,

  185. I remember being, you know, all kinds of

  186. fights and seen all kinds of fights all

  187. my life, man. It wasn't until I came

  188. to Christ that I was introduced to the

  189. good fight.

  190. Because fights that you get in when you're

  191. in the world,

  192. oftentimes, you know, you feel guilty or you

  193. feel like you should said this or you

  194. shouldn't have done that. You have guilt, you

  195. know?

  196. But guess what? There's a fight that you

  197. can get into that you can have a

  198. really good conscience about Amen,

  199. fighting for souls, fighting for the gospel.

  200. Fighting for the good news. Fight the good

  201. fight. Hey, man, It's a good fight that

  202. we're in, and it's beautiful. And I praise

  203. God because so many people, they litter the

  204. world. Hundreds of millions billions of people. They

  205. they wake up with no reason to live.

  206. No purpose to live. It's kinda like the

  207. ec deal where it's just, you know,

  208. it's nothing new under the sun. Light becomes

  209. born and everything else. Man. Haven't had a

  210. boring day since I became a christian.

  211. Because guess what? There may be a time

  212. where I think, oh, there's not much to

  213. do. Guess what? I know there's a lot

  214. to do. I could seek the lord in

  215. prayer. I can witness. I could get the

  216. word. I can praise God. I can, you

  217. know, share my the love of Christ with

  218. people. There doesn't have to be any boring

  219. days for us.

  220. And because we've got the purpose of fighting

  221. the good fight. Amen. And we're all call

  222. to be involved in this fight of getting

  223. the gospel out. Of snatch souls from Hell.

  224. Amen, snatch them from the fire. So what

  225. a joy it is to be able to

  226. fight the good fight. And these at the

  227. Ag, these athletic contests

  228. that they would... You know, they'd have these

  229. assemblies.

  230. And they would have cherry races, and they

  231. would have foot races

  232. They'd have wrestling. They'd have different things. And

  233. this this terminology that Paul uses is quite

  234. interesting because

  235. it's both it can be taken as

  236. Reference to the athletic context.

  237. Paul has already referenced athletics in chapter 4,

  238. where it talks about discipline yourself under god.

  239. Some comment will say it also has a

  240. military aspect to it. Other comment disagree.

  241. I don't have a problem with that because

  242. when you say fight the good fight, there

  243. is a Paul in second timothy chapter 2

    2 Timothy 2 chapter mention

  244. versus 3 and 4, uses both a military

  245. and an athletic metaphor.

  246. Back to back

  247. about how the athlete... The Christian athlete has

  248. to... You know, an athlete has to operate

  249. a according to the rules. Right? But right

  250. before that, he says that as soldiers for

  251. Christ. We're not to ent ourselves in the

  252. affairs of this world. Amen, but to serve

  253. the 1 that's illicit us. So Paul uses

  254. both metaphors of athletics

  255. and of

  256. military,

  257. prowess and being involved in in the in

  258. the war for souls. So it's very important

  259. to keep in mind. We are in AAAAA

  260. battle that is very much a spiritual war.

  261. Rest... We wrestle not against wet.

  262. Flesh and blood, but against principles and powers.

  263. Paul first corinthians 06:12. Right?

    1 Corinthians 6:12

  264. Second Corinthians chapter 10 versus 4 and 5.

    2 Corinthians 10 chapter mention

  265. The weapons of our warfare for there. Our

  266. warfare... Therefore are not what Car or physical,

  267. but they're mighty through God that's pulling down

  268. struggles.

  269. Hey, man cast that imaginations. So Paul definitely,

  270. when I believe with Paul says fight the

  271. good fight, I believe he has different things

  272. in mind, the spiritual battle that we're in,

  273. but also that we're supposed to, like, those

  274. the the the Ag, supposed to fight man,

  275. and, you know, persevere.

  276. So he tells him to fight the good

  277. fight of faith. He's already told him this

  278. at first Timothy chapter 1 back up the

    1 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  279. first Timothy chapter 1.

    1 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  280. And Paul has... Gives him a command.

  281. This command I ent you verse 18,

  282. Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies

  283. previously made concerning you that by them you

  284. what.

  285. You fight the good fight. There is again.

  286. How he supposed to fight the good fight?

  287. Look at Verse 19 keeping faith

  288. because guess what Satan wants to destroy your

  289. faith.

  290. You have it you're in a spiritual war,

  291. keeping faith and a what.

  292. Good conscience,

  293. which some have what,

  294. rejected and what?

  295. Suffered ship wreck in regard to their faith.

  296. In other words, their faith was floating lawn,

  297. and

  298. it

  299. took on water and it sunk.

  300. And if you looked at a ship that's

  301. wrecked on the on the beach, you could

  302. say, hey, that was... That's a picture of

  303. some people's faith. And then he mentions who

  304. they are.

  305. Look at verse 20. Among these are Jaime,

  306. whom mana in the Greek and Alexander,

  307. whom I have handed over to Satan, so

  308. that they will be taught, not to bla.

  309. We don't have time to get into their

  310. whole story.

  311. We've done this because we've studied this this

  312. book verse by verse but it's good to

  313. know and understand that when he's telling Timothy

  314. to fight the good fight,

  315. he's given an example of what to not

  316. as to what not to let happened to

  317. your faith amen.

  318. And earlier in this chapter, he talks about

  319. certain people have gone astra from the truth.

  320. And then he gives these guys as examples,

  321. but he warns Timothy

  322. to keep the faith at a good conscience.

  323. And make sure and watch out.

  324. That does become ship back like it did

  325. with these guys.

  326. So to

  327. emphasize his point He uses these 2 men

  328. whose lives were destroyed in regard to the

  329. faith and says don't become like them.

  330. So he's letting them know, and I think

  331. this is heavy.

  332. Because of what he does and we'll discover

  333. this a little bit later in the study

  334. because he kind of reverses this,

  335. it gives a a totally opposite type of

  336. example. But here he wants to show Timothy

  337. why he needs to fight the good at

  338. fight of faith

  339. because he doesn't want his faith to become

  340. ship brick on the rocks of apostasy

  341. or wicked living.

  342. And you need to make sure that you're

  343. fight of the good fight of the faith.

  344. Amen.

  345. So

  346. because you can look around and say that

  347. would never happen And me, don't do that.

  348. Why Paul said, let him think he stands,

  349. take heed lest he fall. Amen.

  350. Peter should have take taken heed when Jesus

  351. warned him to tray unless he fell in

  352. temptation because he didn't think he could fall

  353. and he fell big time, denied the Lord.

  354. So these are really powerful examples as to

  355. why it's important to

  356. fight the good fight. Now let's go back

  357. to 06:12, fight the good fight of what?

  358. Of faith. What kind of fight are we

  359. fighting?

  360. We're fighting the fight of faith.

  361. Now,

  362. you have, you know, there's some... There's some

  363. things in here that, you know, comment and

  364. scholars will, you know, debate as to what

  365. he's talks about the good fight of faith

  366. in here. Is he talking about Paul's personal

  367. faith or is Paul talking about Timothy personal

  368. faith? Fight the good fight of your personal

  369. faith meaning continue to trust Jesus? Or is

  370. he talking about fight the good fight of

  371. faith meaning the content of Christian doctrine

  372. stand up for that, You know? And actually

  373. linguistic,

  374. it either interpretation with suffice as far as

  375. what the the the grammar says. It it

  376. could be either or.

  377. I personally believe it's both.

  378. Why do I believe that? Because I believe

  379. we gotta be really careful about not

  380. basically

  381. segmenting our Christianity.

  382. What do I mean? That we have to

  383. make sure that we don't look at our

  384. Faith as though,

  385. we compartment it, you know?

  386. K? Is it paul's...

  387. Is it Timothy personal faith is concerned about?

  388. Or is it the content of doctrine?

  389. And not that we don't speak to those

  390. different aspects of our lives, but I believe

  391. our I believe everything's is in view here

  392. because in first Timothy 4 verse 1,

    1 Timothy 4:1

  393. Couple chapters earlier, Paul warns that the holy

  394. spirit speaks expressly that in the latter times,

  395. some will depart from the faith.

  396. Given heat to person and doctors of demons.

  397. How does he encourage Timothy

  398. to fight the good fight in that context

  399. and not fall away? In chapter 4 verse

  400. 16.

  401. He says that Timothy watch your life,

  402. your behavior. That would have to do with

  403. his personal faith. Amen.

  404. And you're what,

  405. doctrine

  406. that would have to do the content of

  407. Christian belief.

  408. Both of them

  409. He says, Timothy watched your life and your

  410. doctrine and so doing you will say both

  411. yourself and those who hear you.

  412. Amen?

  413. So I like to look at the my

  414. Christian faith, not as a Tv dinner. We're

  415. okay. Here's the,

  416. you know, here's a little bit of a

  417. meatloaf for

  418. whatever it is,

  419. or and, you know, salisbury steak. I don't

  420. know if they still they still have that.

  421. I know what as was a kid they

  422. had Salisbury steak. You remember that? It actually

  423. pretty good with potatoes.

  424. But I like to mix my meat with

  425. the potatoes, man.

  426. And

  427. Christian faith is not a Tv dinner as

  428. much as it's more like a gum or

  429. a stew.

  430. Your faith should perm everything you do.

  431. Oh, you know, joe, there's my Christian faith

  432. when I go to church, but then I

  433. then I go home. Well, wait a minute.

  434. You go home, well, I just go spend

  435. time with the, but I'm not really christian

  436. And really? Supposed to love your wife as

  437. Christ love the church you gave himself for.

  438. Oh, yeah. I'm a I'm a Christian on

  439. my wife just not my kids. Really? Supposed

  440. to train them up the lord. Amen?

  441. Bringing up the nurture national Lord? Oh, but

  442. not my work. Really, the bible says, do

  443. your work hard under the lord? Amen?

  444. All of our lives

  445. should

  446. be perm with Jesus. Amen.

  447. In fact,

  448. when you're at work when you're at school

  449. when you're the neighborhood when you're around these

  450. friends around those friends, whoever, you ought to

  451. be making sure that you're following Jesus that

  452. he's first in your life. You're not compromising

  453. your Christian faith. Amen.

  454. So we should be fighting for the, the

  455. reality of our personal faith in Christ.

  456. And now let the enemy en encroaching into

  457. our lives,

  458. it'll allow hearts to be hardened or anything

  459. like that. We have to fight the good

  460. fight. Amen. But we also need to fight

  461. the good fight in regard to Christian doctrine.

  462. In regard to the articles of the faith.

  463. Hey, amen.

  464. Fight the good fight of the faith. Amen.

  465. So,

  466. I believe that both are in view here

  467. and why limit it, you know?

  468. Because guess what? If I'm

  469. personally

  470. emphasizing fight a good fight for my personal

  471. faith in Christ,

  472. That's gonna also entail what I believe in

  473. Christian doctrine amen. And if I'm fighting for

  474. Christian doctrine and the the totality you what

  475. God's word says about truth. Guess what? That's

  476. gonna affect my life because my doctrine has

  477. not due just what I believe, but how

  478. I live for jesus how I love with

  479. all my heart. Amen. So to me it

  480. all goes together. So I believe paul's is

  481. encouraging him.

  482. And if Paul wanna be more specific, I

  483. believe he easily could have with the grammar.

  484. So it's important that we fight the good

  485. fight of the faith

  486. Now,

  487. let's go back to 06:12. Let's go a

  488. little deeper.

  489. Fight the good fight of faith. What's the

  490. next term?

  491. Take hold.

  492. Take hold

  493. of the eternal life to which you were

  494. called.

  495. Supposed to take hold of eternal life.

  496. Take hold. Take hold. I love that.

  497. Take hold. That words can be used at

  498. times as

  499. intensified,

  500. meaning to grab onto to to hold tightly.

  501. And I believe that's the meaning here.

  502. In Matthew chapter 14 verse 31. You remember

    Matthew 14:31

  503. when Peter tried to walk on the water

  504. and he actually was successful at first.

  505. Then he saw the waves. And he started

  506. to sink. And said Jesus,

  507. Grabbed him. Same greek word. He took hold

  508. of him.

  509. How do you think he grabbed Peter. Just

  510. saw? No big deal. No. He grabbed him.

  511. Kept him from sinking name amen. And that's

  512. the way we ought to be grabbing eternal

  513. life. It's used 3 times

  514. in the book of acts of Paul being

  515. taken hold of by his enemies.

  516. Act 16, I'll just give you 1 example.

  517. When Paul and Silas

  518. cast demon out of the Fortune teller and

  519. the slave owners that owned her had them

  520. beaten, it says they took hold of Paul

  521. silas.

  522. Okay?

  523. They took hold of them.

  524. Like Peter was taking hold of by jesus.

  525. We're supposed to be taking hold of eternal

  526. life. Amen.

  527. So it's interesting,

  528. because there's many, many scriptures that deal with

  529. taking hold of

  530. whether it's life,

  531. eternal life,

  532. which is the context here or the things

  533. that have to do with eternal life, taking

  534. hold of Jesus who is our life.

  535. Holy fast to our confession and so forth.

  536. In fact, Hebrews 03:14 says we have come

    Hebrews 3:14

  537. to share in Christ if we hold

  538. firmly till the end, the confidence we had

  539. at first.

  540. Hebrews 3 6, but christ is faithful as

  541. the son over God's house, and we are

  542. his house. If we hold on

  543. to our courage and the hope which we

  544. boast.

  545. Hebrews was 04:14.

  546. Therefore, since we have this great high priest

  547. a great High priest Jesus, who has passed

  548. through the Heavens. Jesus son of God led

  549. us hold fast our

  550. confession.

  551. Hebrews 10:23.

    Hebrews 10:23

  552. Let us hold fast our confession of hope

  553. without wave for you promise is faithful.

  554. First corinthians 15 verse 2 in regard to

    1 Corinthians 15:2

  555. the gospel.

  556. Paul writes,

  557. by this gospel you are saved if you

  558. hold firmly

  559. to the word. I preached you. Otherwise, you

  560. have believed to know purpose or in vain.

  561. Revelation 03:11, Jesus says to the church at

    Revelation 3:11

  562. Philadelphia there. I'm coming soon.

  563. Hold on to what you have so that

  564. no 1 will take your crown.

  565. Go with me to Philippians it's chapter 3

  566. verse 10 where Paul talks about this as

  567. well. And and I love it, especially, I

  568. love all these verses

  569. I love Philippians 3 because Paul talks about

  570. when he came to the Lord.

  571. He considered his past life as done,

  572. right?

  573. As refuse.

  574. As garbage that he might gain Christ.

  575. And he refused to let go of Jesus,

  576. and Paul went through

  577. all these horrific things in life.

  578. He stoned and left for dead,

  579. whipped several times, you know, all these things.

  580. We've talked about this before. He had a...

  581. He went through a lot of things, but

  582. he refused to let go of the Lord.

  583. And that's what we ought need to make

  584. sure we're doing that we're refusing to let

  585. go. And if Philippians is chapter 3 verse

    Isaiah 3:10

  586. 10,

  587. Paul says that I may know him. This

  588. is his hope that I may know him.

  589. He wants to know Jesus. It's not just

  590. about knowing about him is knowing him. Have

  591. a relationship with him. And the power of

  592. his resurrection

  593. And the fellowship of his suffering

  594. being conform to his death verse 11. In

  595. order that I attain to the what.

  596. The resurrection from the dead,

  597. and in the Greek it's the out resurrection

  598. and that being distinct from the resurrection of

  599. those who are perish. This is the resurrection

  600. of the righteous or the just, and the

  601. Greek Greek is literally e out from among

  602. the dead. That I might attain, he says

  603. to the out resurrection from the dead

  604. first 12, not that Have already obtained it

  605. or have already become perfect, but I what.

  606. I press on.

  607. If you call my phone,

  608. which has always filled up because I have

  609. all my messages kicked to my

  610. my text because I just text now, and

  611. I'll talk on the phone at times, but

  612. I don't like to listen to 30 messages.

  613. You know, when...

  614. So I... My my iphone is always filled

  615. up, so then you'll have head up having

  616. to text me, which is great. That's what

  617. I want because I I get way more

  618. done texting. And then I get people I

  619. was talking with Doug on the phone today.

  620. I was on the phone with somebody else

  621. for 2 hours. Actually, so I think that

  622. was skype an interview. Right?

  623. So Always talking.

  624. But, you know,

  625. my my ears were flat. I didn't know

  626. why. No. I'm kidding.

  627. You talk a lot, you know.

  628. But you'll hear on my phone. My messages

  629. is, I say press on. I've said that

  630. since I was young Christian, encourage people to

  631. press on in Jesus, and pauses says, but

  632. I press on. So that I may what.

  633. So I may lay hold

  634. of that for which also I was laid

  635. hold of by Christ Jesus.

  636. Brother Did not regard myself as having laid

  637. hold of it yet.

  638. But 1 thing I do for getting

  639. what lies behind and reaching forward to what

  640. lies ahead. I press on to toward the

  641. goal. Of the prize of the upward upward

  642. call of god in christ Jesus.

  643. Now he has eternal life. He's not doubting

  644. that he has life. But he has not

  645. yet received the resurrection from the dead amen.

  646. He's he's looking forward to that out. Therefore,

  647. he's holding on to his faith and he's

  648. refusing to let go. Now let's look at

  649. Chapter 6 verse 12 again.

  650. Fight the good fight of faith,

  651. take hold, take hold of what.

  652. Take hold of the what.

  653. The eternal life,

  654. you guys.

  655. There's a lot of things people are taking

  656. hold of today,

  657. tonight,

  658. this week throughout the year that they're grabbing

  659. on that they want. You know, they want

  660. this. They want that. And they can't take

  661. it with them, and that was Paul's point

  662. earlier. Right? Which is interesting. I think in

  663. light of what Paul was saying about how

  664. not to live for riches, and those who

  665. want to be rich in this world wander

  666. from the Faith Pure themselves in in the

  667. ruined destruction and so forth, and he says

  668. that you came in the world nothing and

  669. you you're gonna leave the world nothing.

  670. You could take hold of anything you want

  671. here, you got can take it with you.

  672. But guess what.

  673. You could take and half forever, take hold

  674. of eternal life.

  675. Was it the gains the whole world What

  676. if you could take take it to some

  677. place. Well, was it prophet jesus says if

  678. you gain the whole world? And you lose

  679. your what?

  680. Your soul. There's no profit in that. So

  681. Paul's is saying, take hold of eternal life.

  682. Now we're talking about fighting the good fight.

  683. Right?

  684. We're talking about... Athletic contest or a war

  685. and whether it's a war or a battle

  686. or set. Athletic contest there's a prize.

  687. That's why somebody gets involved in this athletic

  688. a contest

  689. that they might get this wreath. Right?

  690. Today that they might get the gold, you

  691. know, or silver bronze,

  692. that they might get some surprised. Well, the

  693. prize that we are fighting the good fight

  694. for blows all that away. Amen?

  695. It's eternal life.

  696. It's eternal life,

  697. and that's important to keep in mind because

  698. that's the prize.

  699. Is... And I ask the question sometimes, is

  700. there anything more important that you

  701. could have in life?

  702. In this world. I'm asking all you.

  703. So there's anything more important that you could

  704. have than eternal life?

  705. No.

  706. Well, Jesus well, Jesus is eternal life. He's

  707. the way the truth and the life.

  708. First, John, chapter 1, the first couple verses

    John 1 chapter mention

  709. say he is the eternal life. And first

  710. John... Chapter 5, les versus ed with him

  711. being the eternal life.

  712. Wow.

  713. You know, Jesus said, I am the resurrection

  714. and the

  715. life.

  716. Well, the context there is his eternal life.

  717. Thief comes to still killing story destroyed, but

  718. I've come to give you life and to

  719. give you more abundantly.

  720. He is our life, Amen.

  721. But Paul is talking about this contest here.

  722. And the prize that he's telling Timothy to

  723. fight the good fight for is to stand

  724. in the faith, not to fall away, whether

  725. his personal faith lord or from content of

  726. biblical doctrine, both.

  727. Don't fall away.

  728. Because you have the prize of eternal life

  729. and you need to take hold of that

  730. eternal life.

  731. And think about how Paul uses this metaphor

  732. in first Corinthians 9. Remember that, we're not

  733. gonna take the time to go there because

  734. many of you are very aware of it.

  735. I talked about this passage not too long

  736. ago. But that's where Paul says, at, I

  737. beat my body down. So after I preach

  738. the gospel to others, I myself would not

  739. be rejected by God. A doc. Amen. He

  740. says, he says in the Olympic games, I'm

  741. para him. He goes, you know,

  742. they run. They do all... They do these

  743. things, he says for a perishable wreath.

  744. They worked their tails off.

  745. But something that they just gonna dis deteriorate.

  746. That even wasn't even go bed then it

  747. was a wreath, you know?

  748. Woven wreath is beautiful, but, man,

  749. days, weeks go by, just deteriorate it. And

  750. then before you know it's gone.

  751. All that work.

  752. And then eventually you were forgotten.

  753. Do you know the top 10 Olympic athletes

  754. in the first century,

  755. what their names were?

  756. Either do I.

  757. They just... They're not even

  758. remembered

  759. ultimately in the end.

  760. But eternal life is forever.

  761. And that's what we're supposed to be fighting

  762. for. And Paul says,

  763. I run. I beat my body down, and

  764. He says, I box is not boxing the

  765. air man. I run the race to win

  766. that I may have the imp

  767. Though says inc crown.

  768. Inc. That's eternal. The crown of life.

  769. And that's what James talks about. James 01:12,

    James 1:12

  770. you know, blessing are those who persevere.

  771. Right? Why?

  772. For once they have been approved, or once

  773. they have stood the test as 1 translation

  774. says, they will receive the crown,

  775. which is life.

  776. Which God will give to all those who

  777. love him. James 01:12.

    James 1:12

  778. So if you persevere in the race, you'll

  779. receive what, the crown of life

  780. First Corinthians 9, the incredible crown.

  781. Revelation chapter 2 from Jesus lips.

    Revelation 2 chapter mention

  782. I should say from his

  783. lips to the

  784. 7 angels that he spoke to.

  785. He told the church Sm to be faithful

  786. in the death. They're gonna go to prison.

  787. Be faithful and the death and I will

  788. give you the crown what? The crown of

  789. what?

  790. The crown of life,

  791. and then he goes on and say, he

  792. that overcomes will not be hurt by the

  793. second death.

  794. Top about the lake of fire.

  795. So here, we're talking about eternal life and

  796. contrast to eternal damn nation.

  797. And many people look at the Christian faith

  798. I told you before it over and over

  799. again, the look at it as a little

  800. sprint up an aisle.

  801. To make a decision for Jesus.

  802. And that's it.

  803. No. It's not a sprint up the aisle

  804. or ginger walk.

  805. It starts. You get in the race by

  806. coming to Jesus z amen. If you sincerely

  807. came up an aisle, and you could confess

  808. your your sin before Christ and accepting him

  809. his Lord to Save. You got saved.

  810. But that's the beginning of the race. Say,

  811. amen.

  812. You have to persevere in the faith

  813. to the end, and that's what Paul is

  814. telling Timothy needs given him reasons that he

  815. ought to persevere.

  816. In fact, reach eternal life is something that

  817. we ultimately reap through faith in Christ.

  818. We have. Now. It's... I would just saw

  819. something from Ellen White, who is basically the

  820. main leader of the seventh day dentist movement.

  821. And I saw where she would say nobody

  822. can know they have eternal life now.

  823. Well, that's biblical. First john 05:13.

    1 John 5:13

  824. These things are First on 05:12. He that

  825. has the son has the life. Amen, He

  826. that does not have the son does not

  827. have a life. First on 05:13, these things

  828. are written that you may know that you

  829. have eternal life. Amen? We have eternal life

  830. right now because Jesus bore our sins on

  831. the cross. Amen, and we're not saved by

  832. works of righteousness at week. Righteousness that we

  833. could do. We could never earn our salvation.

  834. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross

  835. and rose again. And through faith in him,

  836. we have the gift of eternal life. Amen,

  837. what a beautiful truth that is. But you

  838. know what?

  839. Jesus talked about those who will inherit eternal

  840. life.

  841. There's a already, but not yet. We haven't

  842. moved into the fullness of that life.

  843. And it's important to understand that, the scriptures

  844. say, for instance, in galatians 6 7 through

  845. 9. Remember those verses,

  846. do not be deceived. God has not mocked.

  847. He that sow the flesh from the flesh

  848. re what.

  849. Corruption, but he that sow to the spirit

  850. will reap

  851. eternal life.

  852. And we shall reap Po goes honestly say,

  853. if we do not give up.

  854. If we do not give up.

  855. Meaning, hold on.

  856. Amen.

  857. Hold on to Jesus. He is our life

  858. John 12:25 G jesus says the man who

    John 12:25

  859. loves his life will lose it.

  860. While the man who hates his life in

  861. this world will keep it for eternal life.

  862. Romans 2 7, Paul talks about those who

  863. by persistence,

  864. those who continue in the faith. Right? And

  865. in doing good, seek glory, honor and immortality,

  866. he will give he will give eternal life.

  867. The good works there are evidence of your

  868. faith.

  869. You don't earn your salvation. Romans 06:22 paul

    Romans 6:22

  870. says, but now that you have been set

  871. free from sin. And I become slaves to

  872. God.

  873. The benefit you reap leads to h and

  874. the result is eternal life. He's talking about

  875. that final aspect of

  876. salvation.

  877. Titus 3 7.

  878. Paul's so... Paul said so that have been

  879. justified by his grace. We've been justified. Right?

  880. By his grace, we might become heirs having

  881. the hope of eternal life.

  882. So in 1 sense, we already have eternal

  883. life because we have Jesus. He lives in

  884. his a amen.

  885. But we look forward to the full manifestation

  886. of that life at the resurrection. Amen.

  887. So it's quite beautiful.

  888. I love Jude, 20 and 21.

  889. But you beloved in building yourselves up in

  890. your most holy faith, praying in the holy

  891. spirit keep yourselves in the love of God

  892. waiting anxiously listen to this, waiting anxiously for

  893. the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to

  894. eternal life. We waiting for Jesus to bring

  895. us eternal life.

  896. We've been saved

  897. from our sins, amen.

  898. We're being san

  899. and continually

  900. set apart from sin. And 1 day we'll

  901. be glorified and be totally separate the very

  902. presence of Sin. Amen, and and and inherit

  903. at the fullness of our salvation. So it's

  904. quite robust, it's Christian theology,

  905. and that's why I challenge you as Christians.

  906. When I was being interviewed today, the person

  907. I was interview interviewing me interviewing me, a

  908. brother from England named Chris. Really neat brother.

  909. And I've been interviewed by

  910. Tal, who... They do a lot of shows

  911. together, but he was encouraging, very encouraging. He

  912. He loves our ministry in a a good

  913. fight and in a blessed hope. And but

  914. he said he's been a church to church

  915. to church church, and he goes I've been

  916. all over the place. And he said finally

  917. when he found our ministry, and not that

  918. where was doing it, but it's sad it's

  919. kind of far few between, he goes, I

  920. finally found, you know,

  921. where you, you know, there's exit jesus of

  922. the scripture,

  923. where we actually go through the bible and

  924. learn what it means and and and go

  925. deep, You know, and that's what what we

  926. ought to be doing amen. So,

  927. looks look at 06:12 again of first Timothy.

  928. Fight the good fight of faith,

  929. Take hold of eternal life.

  930. We've looked at that right, to which you

  931. were what,

  932. to which you were called.

  933. Let's look at that. To which you were...

  934. Now that's the first

  935. reason he gives him as to why he

  936. needs the persevere.

  937. Because you were Timothy. You were called

  938. you were called to eternal life.

  939. And that's very, very

  940. important to understand and

  941. what it mean to be called.

  942. That's even... A lot of things in this

  943. verse are actually, you know,

  944. controversial depending on what system theology you believe

  945. and or what have you and And to

  946. me, this really shouldn't be very complex.

  947. You know, Some will talk about how there's

  948. a general call,

  949. and there's an efficacious call.

  950. A general call is whereby God calls everybody

  951. to himself and

  952. makes it sound as though he wants to

  953. save everybody

  954. But the efficacious call a secret call because

  955. really, he wants to damn most people, but

  956. he efficacious works in certain people and it's

  957. inter... Also called the inter call whereby God

  958. actually reveals the gospel to you because you've

  959. been predetermined to be saved, and then you

  960. can understand the gospel, but the other people

  961. you didn't really want. You know?

  962. That's not... That that makes it to

  963. act... Actually, that moves away from what we're

  964. really called to you guys.

  965. The salvation that we're called to and how

  966. god's call is sincere for everyone.

  967. He doesn't will that any with Perish. Amen?

  968. He is a good God. God is love.

  969. And he did still love the world that

  970. he gave his only begun son. So what's

  971. the difference. And what happens is because sometimes

  972. Christians throughout the new testament are called the

  973. called.

  974. Right?

  975. Oh, we're the called?

  976. What about the knob believers?

  977. Were they called yes.

  978. Oh, why we called the called?

  979. And I believe when you look at the

  980. script description, you can say in that some

  981. sense there maybe, you know what you might

  982. call a general call, but I believe it's

  983. a very sincere call.

  984. And anyone can respond to it. It becomes

  985. efficacious meaning effective in your life when you

  986. mix your faith

  987. with God's grace.

  988. When you put trust in Jesus and the

  989. gospel of Christ, Amen,

  990. then it becomes efficacious.

  991. But it doesn't mean that God doesn't want

  992. everybody to answer the call.

  993. Isn't faith a gift though?

  994. In the objective sense it is,

  995. none of us could believe if Jesus didn't

  996. die for us if there was no incarnation

  997. if God didn't reveal himself to his amen,

  998. So in that sense, we couldn't even... The

  999. grace of god that brings salvation though has

1000. appeared to all men. Amen. So we couldn't

1001. believe so in 1 sense faith is a

1002. gift. In another sense is a gift too

1003. in the sense that, certain people have the

1004. gift of faith, certain Christians, Romans is chapter

    Isaiah 12 chapter mention

1005. 12, there's different gifts. Certain people just have

1006. an ability just to trust God

1007. for certain things because they've been given,

  1008. a gift of faith.

1009. But when we're talking about salvation,

1010. the gift of faith is something god calls

  1011. everyone to, He offers

1012. he brings us all evidence

1013. to believe if we respond the light that

  1014. he gives us.

1015. In fact, you know how I know that

1016. Jesus wants us to believe,

1017. and how our belief is all on a

1018. on a subjective level, it's your belief though.

  1019. You're the 1 believing.

1020. You could it be call it a believer.

1021. You could be called the believer if you

  1022. weren't the 1 believing.

1023. Otherwise, it would be a mis no. Amen,

1024. but you truly are a believer.

1025. You truly are... And that's the subjective aspect,

1026. and that is your responsibility.

1027. Because belief is not merit. It's not something

1028. that we are doing that's credited as some

1029. kind of work whereby we merit or earn

  1030. our salvation.

1031. Belief or trust is simply

  1032. receptive of his goodness.

1033. Amen. Is that which turns to he receives

  1034. his grace.

1035. And I challenge you guys to understand deeper

  1036. theology

1037. because I want us to be deeper in

1038. our walks with Jesus understand how God works.

1039. And grow. It's my prayer for our fellowship

1040. in and the people that hear me are

1041. that they grow in the knowledge of Jesus

  1042. in his word.

1043. That way, you don't get let astra by

1044. every window of doctrine that comes by. You

1045. don't get confused about the goodness of god.

  1046. So we understand faith

1047. there is the aspect where it's a gift

1048. in the sense that god god calls everyone,

1049. and he reveals his son, and he lights

1050. hard everyone that comes in the world. Hey,

  1051. amen.

1052. But it's subjective in the sense that is

  1053. your decision.

1054. And so much so is it your decision,

1055. that Jesus is upset with his disciples,

1056. oh, y of little faith.

  1057. Right?

1058. He he rebuke him for not believe he

1059. meaning they should have at times. Amen.

1060. And he's blown away by the Roman leader

1061. or was also a blown away by the

1062. came I haven't to seen faith like this

1063. in all of Israel. Why is he blown

  1064. away?

1065. If he just gave it to her and

1066. she couldn't help but have it. No, because

1067. it's her own response to him.

1068. And that's why Jesus says, if you don't

1069. believe my words believe my what.

  1070. Believe my miracles.

1071. Because we do have to put our trust

1072. in the Lord, and we have to fight

1073. the good fight of faith and we have

1074. to continue to trust the Lord.

  1075. Now it's interesting here

1076. to go a little bit deeper now.

1077. What does he mean by this call,

  1078. the

  1079. Timothy,

1080. fight the good fight of faith,

1081. lay hold on eternal life to which you

1082. were called because you were called by God.

1083. God calls us to eternal life. Is that

1084. awesome that he really does love us and

1085. he calls us to eternal life. He provided

1086. salvation through the cross. Amen. The provision has

1087. been made, but he calls us to eternal

  1088. life. God's called you

  1089. personally.

1090. And and he's reminding Timothy that you've been

  1091. called to

  1092. eternal life.

  1093. Now,

1094. as I said, it's not that complicated.

1095. Go to Matthew chapter 22.

    Matthew 22 chapter mention

1096. You remember the teaching that Jesus gave in

1097. regard to the wedding feast. Amen.

1098. And go ahead when you go to Matthew

  1099. 22, look at verse 14.

1100. And verse 14, this is there's that famous

1101. phrase there for many are called, but fewer

  1102. are what.

  1103. Fewer are chosen.

1104. For many are call, but few are chosen.

1105. How's is that many are call, but only

  1106. a few

  1107. are chosen.

1108. Many would say, oh, this is the general

1109. call God calls people generally, but he really...

1110. Some would say he doesn't really wanna save

1111. them though, and that's why they're not chosen.

  1112. I say that that's not

  1113. biblical accurate

  1114. that god calls him

1115. any sincere in his call. The reason to

1116. call it doesn't move from general to f

1117. efficacious is because they refuse to respond to

  1118. the call.

1119. Just back up and look at the context.

  1120. Chapter

1121. 22 verse 1. Jesus spoke to them again

1122. in parable saying the kingdom of heaven may

1123. be compared to a king who gave me

1124. wedding feast for his son, and he sent

1125. out his slaves to what?

1126. See that word call? To what?

1127. Are you with me? To call those who

  1128. had been invited?

1129. Sometimes when I see the word call, you

1130. know, I look at it.

1131. Many are called, fewer were chosen invited, you

1132. know? When Paul says, you are the called.

1133. That means I look at call and I

  1134. think that's a privilege to be called. I

1135. look at it as invited. It's a sin.

1136. I'd be called to eternal life. That's an

  1137. invitation.

1138. So when I see Call I also see

  1139. invited.

1140. And I love it because that helps me

1141. get my brain around the idea. That many

1142. are invited, but few are what chosen.

1143. Many are invited, but not a very response

  1144. to the invitation.

1145. Therefore, in a special sense as Christians you

1146. can be called the called. You'd be called

1147. the invite go through next new testament that

  1148. you're 1 the invited. Well, we're others invited.

1149. Yeah, they were, but they didn't accept it.

1150. But be happy that you were invited. Amen.

1151. So he says, look at verse 3, and

1152. he sent out as slaves to call those

1153. who had been invited to the wedding feast

  1154. and they were what?

  1155. Unwilling to come.

1156. Do you think the fault of them not

1157. being at the wedding feast is

1158. to put the 1 who invites

1159. them his fault or their fault.

1160. It puts the blame on the person

1161. It puts the blame on the person.

1162. If you don't end up in heaven in

1163. the end, it's not because God doesn't love

  1164. you. It's not because he's didn't die for

  1165. you, It's not because God didn't

1166. didn't invite you. It's because you rejected his

  1167. invitation in the end.

1168. They're called, but they... What?

  1169. They were unwilling.

  1170. Right? To come,

  1171. which I love John chapter 5 versus 34

    John 5 chapter mention

  1172. 35 39 40, where Jesus says to the

1173. Jewish leaders that hey Wanna kill him later.

1174. He says, I'm saying these things to you

1175. that you may be saved.

1176. But you're unwilling to come to me that

  1177. you may have life.

1178. I don't know how much clearer it can

1179. be made than right there.

1180. I'm saying they seems to that you may

1181. be saved for your unwilling economy that you

1182. may have life. And here we see verse

1183. 4. Again, he sent out other slaves saying,

1184. tell those who have been invited behold, I

1185. have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my

  1186. fat and livestock,

1187. all are butcher, and everything is ready, come

  1188. to the wedding feast.

1189. But they paid no attention and went their

1190. way. 1 to his own farm another to

  1191. his business.

1192. And the rest sees his slaves and mistreated

  1193. them and killed them.

1194. But the king was enraged,

1195. he sent his armies and destroyed those murders

1196. and set their city on fire

1197. That was what happened in 70 ad d

1198. when God allowed, you know, Israel

1199. to be destroyed by the Romans after they

  1200. rejected

1201. Messiah about 30 some years later. Verse 8,

1202. then he said to his slaves, the wedding

  1203. is ready.

1204. But those who were invited were not worthy,

1205. Go there for to the main highways. And

1206. as many as you find there, invite to

1207. the wedding feast. It's not just for the

1208. Jews. Now it's open to the gentile. Amen.

1209. Those slaves went out into the streets and

1210. gathered together all they found, both evil and

1211. good and the wedding hall was filled with

  1212. dinner guests.

1213. But when the king came

1214. in to look over the dinner guest, he

1215. saw a man there who was not dressed

  1216. in wedding clothes.

1217. And he said to a friend,

1218. How did you come in here without wedding

1219. clothes and the man was speechless.

1220. The king has said to the servants, bind

1221. him hand and foot and throw him into

1222. the outer darkness in that place where we

1223. weeping says Jesus and national teeth. For many

1224. are calm, but fewer are wet.

1225. Fewer are chosen. So the invitation goes out,

  1226. whose will may come.

1227. But there is a condition.

1228. You have to come on god's terms.

1229. Not on your own terms.

1230. You can't see, oh, you know what?

1231. I I get it. You know, their signs

1232. as we sing come just as you are.

1233. If you say come, just as you are

  1234. meaning,

  1235. you know, just

1236. come, don't have to pretend you're something different

1237. than you are. Just be real. That's 1

1238. thing. But if you may come just as

1239. you are and don't repent of your sins

1240. and don't you you know, don't put your

1241. trust in christ and so forth though that's

1242. not what that... That's about.

1243. We have to meet the terms of god's,

1244. we have to come to him with repent

  1245. faith. Amen.

1246. And this guy came in his own wedding

  1247. clothes.

1248. You know, if you come in your own

1249. wedding clothes and your own righteousness, the bible

1250. says that all my rights. This is like

1251. filthy rags before God. Hey, amen?

1252. And Paul says is not that he wanna

1253. be found not that I'll be found in

1254. my own righteousness, but the righteous that comes

1255. to faith in Christ. Amen.

1256. You can only get into heaven. If your

1257. sins have been washed away by the blood

1258. of Christ. And he is your righteousness.

1259. Otherwise, it's all like, just bunch of filthy

  1260. rags before god's disgusting.

1261. So that's why this guy's booted out. Many

1262. are calm, but fewer are what, chosen.

1263. If this guy simply would have put on

1264. the righteous of Christ, which be faith in

1265. the messiah, which is really what this is

  1266. talking about here.

1267. If others were willing to come,

1268. So first of all, you might need to

1269. be willing to come. And when you come,

1270. you have to come on God's terms, Amen

  1271. to salvation.

1272. You have to put your faith in Jesus

  1273. as your messiah.

1274. In fact, flip over just 1 chapter to

1275. chapter 23 verse 37, and you see Jesus

  1276. lament over Jerusalem,

1277. God bless you. Jerusalem, Jerusalem verse 37.

1278. Jerusalem Jerusalem who kills the prophets and stones

1279. those who are sent to her. How often

  1280. I what?

1281. Wanna gather your children together, the way a

1282. hand gathers her chicks under her wings,

  1283. and you were what.

  1284. Unwilling.

1285. He will it, but they were wet.

  1286. Unwilling.

1287. K? So the call of God is this

  1288. perfectly sincere.

1289. He wills to gather Israel the Jews together

  1290. in faith,

  1291. but

  1292. They were unwilling.

1293. We need to make sure that we're willing

1294. amen. How do you answer the call? You

1295. are willing. You have ears here. You say,

1296. yes, lord, I'm coming. Amen.

  1297. You receive that call.

1298. And it's imperative that you recognize

1299. because some people get the car before the

  1300. horse.

1301. They think people are destined for damn nation,

  1302. Therefore,

1303. they won't respond to the call of God.

1304. But the bible actually teaches that God pre

1305. destiny us based on his foreign knowledge.

  1306. Says in chapter 8 versus 28 and 29

  1307. of Romans

1308. verse 28 God works all things together for

1309. the good for those who love him. In

1310. order the call the according purpose, amen.

1311. So if you're loving God. Right? Says those

1312. who love God and Corinthians paul, Those who

1313. love God are known by god. So if

1314. you love God, Faith works through love the

1315. bible says, you're known by god.

1316. He knows that you responded to his grace,

1317. and he works all things together for you,

  1318. for the good,

1319. for those who love him and are call

  1320. the queen's purpose.

1321. How so. Very next verse 4 to conjunction

  1322. connects to verse 28.

1323. For whom he fore knew those who would

  1324. love him,

1325. Right? He pre desi them to be conform

1326. to what, the image of his son.

1327. So god knows who for... He fore knows

1328. who loves him and And if you come

  1329. to him,

1330. he's gonna work everything for the good in

1331. your life and pre destiny you to become

  1332. by his son.

  1333. Beautiful,

1334. Well, when did he know that before the

  1335. world was created,

1336. He knew who had come to when he

  1337. went.

1338. And so this call though,

1339. if you respond to the call,

  1340. it is for knowledge.

  1341. You receive the gospel.

1342. Your hope destiny for salvation.

1343. In fact, go to Isaiah chapter 65 since

    Isaiah 65 chapter mention

1344. we're looking at the call,

1345. this is really powerful. Really eye open. And

1346. I think this will really help you out

1347. and your understanding of what we're talking about

1348. here. It's not super complex. It's beautiful actually.

1349. And it just shows you how God is

  1350. perfectly

  1351. impartial,

  1352. full of love,

1353. you know, full of loving kindness.

  1354. Slow to anger,

1355. giving people opportunity to repent.

1356. Look at Isaiah 65 and what says in

  1357. versus 1 and 2.

1358. The Lord God says, I permitted myself to

1359. be sought by those who did not ask

  1360. for me.

1361. And this is quoted in the book Romans

1362. about how an in salvation plan.

1363. Some of this. I permitted myself to be

1364. sop by those who did not ask for

1365. me. I permitted myself to be found by

1366. those who did not seek me. I said,

1367. here am I? Here in Miami, he revealed

  1368. himself. Right?

1369. To a nation which did not call on

1370. my name. I have spread out my what.

  1371. Hands

  1372. all day long.

  1373. Sounds like

  1374. Matthew chapter 28 3 verse 37, when he's

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

1375. crying over Jerusalem, Jerusalem who kills the prophets

1376. and Stones those who are sent to her

1377. how often I would have gathered together and

1378. does chicks. I would have gathered you, but

1379. you unwilling. Here saying all day long I've

1380. been stretching on my hands to you guys.

  1381. Right?

1382. I've spread out my hands all day long

1383. to a rebellious people who walk in the

  1384. way, which doesn't

1385. which is not good, following their own thoughts.

1386. So check this out. What does he do

  1387. about that?

1388. There are those he goes on to talk

1389. about who are faithful, who turned to him

1390. who seek him. That's beautiful.

1391. But look what he says of those who

1392. don't that he's spreading out his hands. Do

1393. you look at verse 11, Very clear.

1394. But you who for forsaken the Lord,

1395. who forget my holy mountain

1396. who said a table for fortune, a demon

1397. God, and who fill cups with mixed wine

1398. for destiny, another demon God.

  1399. I will what.

  1400. I will went?

1401. Destined in you for the sword.

1402. Why does god destined people for the sword?

1403. Oh, because he just never wanted them begin

1404. with no? He spread out his on hands

1405. all day lied for these guys. Even when

1406. they were rebellious. Why? He tells us why.

1407. I will destiny you for the sword.

1408. And all of you will bow down for

1409. the slot to the slaughter. Why? Why Lord?

1410. He says it right because?

1411. Because this is the cause. Be cause the

1412. cause. That people are destined for destruction because

  1413. I went.

  1414. I called,

1415. but you did not what.

  1416. Answer.

  1417. I spoke.

1418. But you did not wet

  1419. here.

1420. And you did evil in my sight and

  1421. what? And what?

1422. Chose. You might wanna kinda circle some of

1423. these words. They're making a choice and you

1424. chose that in which I did not delight.

  1425. So isn't that powerful?

1426. God destined you based on the choices that

  1427. you make.

1428. And if you respond to the gospel,

1429. and God's goodness. Say amen, He'll save you.

1430. You're destined become like Jesus.

1431. But if you reject his call, which all

1432. day long cries out to you to be

1433. saved and you reject that call,

1434. he'll destiny for destruction why?

  1435. Because you chose evil

1436. because you rejected his call.

  1437. Are you with me?

  1438. Really powerful. I think that's 1 of the

1439. clearest places in scripture what shows you how

1440. god's calling and and destiny people and and

1441. choosing people and their choices work together.

  1442. And this principle

1443. is throughout the new testament regarding the gospel.

  1444. Those who are unwilling,

1445. reject the salvation that could be theirs.

1446. So many are called, but fewer are chosen.

1447. In fact, it's interesting, We're told in second

  1448. Peter

  1449. that,

1450. chapter 1, it talks about how God's called

  1451. this.

1452. But according his divine power. Right?

1453. And it praise God It's, you know, it's

  1454. beautiful,

1455. but then he warns them to not to

1456. fall away, but to grow in grace,

1457. and not to get the point where they

1458. forget. Remember that text where they forget that

1459. they were purified or cleansed,

1460. forgiven of their past sins.

1461. That's believers. Only believers were cleansed of their

1462. past ins. Right? And then he says to

1463. them, make your calling an election sure.

1464. So even though we've been called,

  1465. chapter 1 versus 3 and 4 second, Peter

  1466. 1.

1467. Now we need to make our call election

1468. sure by continuing in the faith by taking

1469. hold of eternal life. And continuing simply to

  1470. trust Jesus.

1471. That's how you make your calling an election

  1472. sure.

1473. You know who Jesus is coming back for?

1474. No. He's coming back with,

1475. Right when the antichrist comes and rains, and

1476. then the church was caught up just before

  1477. the antichrist destroyed Armageddon

1478. we meet Christ the air on his way

  1479. down.

1480. But, you know who comes with him. Most

1481. believers are already with the lord. Did you

  1482. know that?

1483. Because there's been 2000 years of of of

1484. believers dying and going to heaven.

1485. And the dead increase rise first. So they'll

1486. comprise the armies of heaven. Right?

1487. And we'll be caught up to meet them

1488. in the air. Listen to what it says

  1489. in revelation 17 14.

1490. These meaning the 10 kings that give their

1491. power to the antichrist, their kingdoms.

1492. These will wage war against the lamb, and

1493. the lamb will overcome them because he is

1494. Lord of Lords and king of kings And

1495. those who are with him are the called.

1496. Oh, listen to this. They're the called and

  1497. chosen.

1498. Why are they chosen because he answered the

  1499. call?

  1500. He knew they'd the call. He's already... He's

1501. telling, Steven this is a future prophecy before

1502. it's totally fulfilled yet. But shows his foreign

1503. knowledge. But listen this. Those who are with

  1504. him are the call

  1505. and chosen

  1506. and

  1507. faithful.

1508. What guys joined together let know man

1509. or woman set apart. Amen.

1510. Being called and chosen to faithful go get...

  1511. Go together, guys.

1512. Because they made their calling an election sure.

1513. Call and chosen to call election. You make

1514. sure how do you make sure by continuing

  1515. to trust Jesus.

1516. And when you go through hard times. When

1517. your faith is tested, you continue to hold

1518. on to eternal life. Hey amen. You continue

1519. to fight the good fight of faith. You

  1520. continue to say Lord,

1521. I believe, if I'm struggling my faith help

1522. my un belief, help me grow in my

  1523. faith. Amen.

1524. You go through some hard time some temptation.

1525. You you fall short. You you you you

1526. fall the city even. He says, I write

1527. these things that you don't send. But if

1528. you do send, you have a you have

1529. an advocate with Father Jesus, Christ Righteous. Now

1530. you confess your scene you say father forgive

1531. me of my sins cleanse me of all

1532. the righteousness. Then you walk in the light.

1533. First John 1 7. If we walk in

1534. light, As he's in light. We have fellow

1535. 1 with another lot of Jesus christ son

1536. cleanse from all sins. Amen.

1537. You have to depend on Jesus every day.

1538. Don't be waiting for purgatory?

  1539. Oh.

1540. I'll get right in purgatory Man. I'll burn

1541. off my sins. That's a lie in the.

1542. If you're not right with Jesus, When you

1543. leave this earth, you'll never be right with

  1544. Jesus.

1545. You have to make sure you're in the

  1546. faith right now.

1547. So we have all these wonderful passages, and

1548. it's it's amazing too. When you look at

  1549. hebrews,

    Hebrews 3 chapter mention

1550. Chapter 3, it says verse 1. Therefore holy

1551. brethren, partake of a heavenly calling.

1552. Partake of a heavenly calling. Where this heavily

1553. calling in chapter 3 verse 1. Yet, he

1554. warns them, listen to this,

1555. 3 different times, he warns them don't harden

1556. in your hearts to that call.

1557. And don't tune out the holy spirit.

1558. As they did in the wilderness, when I

1559. laid their car as low and wipe them

1560. out before they entered the promised lamb.

1561. Yeah. Your holy brother. Your partake is loving

1562. call... Emily calling. You are in your calling.

1563. You're going forward, but 3 different times he

1564. warns them don't harden your parts.

  1565. And it's

1566. amazing when you you think it through in

1567. in verse 12. That's that famous verse

1568. famous if you go to this church, take

  1569. care of brethren

1570. that there not being in any 1 of

1571. you and un an evil, unbelievable heart that

1572. falls away from the living God. But encourage

  1573. 1 another

1574. day by day or day after day, as

1575. long as it's still called the today. So

1576. that none of you will be hardened by

1577. the d forgetful of sin,

  1578. And that's just... That's a fourth time. 3

1579. times it says, don't be hardened. Don't harden

1580. your hearts. Here he gives them this word

1581. it talks about don't be... Don't let this

1582. happen. About those who will be hard by

1583. the People of sin. That 14. For we

1584. have become partake of Christ. If we hold

1585. fast it this again, if we hold fast

1586. the beginning of our assurance, firm until the

1587. end, while it is said today, if you

1588. hear his voice, do not harden your hearts

1589. as when they provoke me. So Paul is

  1590. telling Timothy, Timothy,

1591. You should fight the good fight. You need

1592. to fight the good fight

1593. of faith. You need to lay hold on

1594. eternal life because you recall Timothy.

1595. You've been called. Now fulfill that calling.

1596. Now let's go back to chapter 6 verse

  1597. 12.

  1598. Now

1599. Look at what we've looked at so far.

1600. Fight. The good fight of faith, take hold

1601. of the eternal life to which you were

  1602. called

  1603. and I love this.

1604. Here's reason number 2 that Timothy is told

1605. by Paul that he should persevere in his

  1606. faith.

1607. And reason number 2 is because Timothy has

1608. made a good confession in the presence of

  1609. many witnesses.

1610. Verse 12, fight the good fight of faith

1611. take hold of the eternal leg to which

1612. you were called and you made the good

1613. confession in the presence of many witnesses.

  1614. Wow, that's powerful.

  1615. So Timothy,

1616. don't give up. You made a great confession

  1617. of your faith

1618. And the idea of confession became a technical

1619. term for confessing Christ as your Lord.

1620. And Timothy had confessed Jesus Christ says as

  1621. Lord.

1622. You know, different comment will say this could

1623. have been at a tri when he was

  1624. at, you know, facing

  1625. some kind of

  1626. you know,

  1627. hostility

1628. in court because of his faith. Others say

1629. it could have been his...

1630. Some commentaries have say maybe Paul is talking

1631. about when they or ordained him and the

1632. elders of pre laid hands on him. I

1633. think the best explanation is probably talking about

  1634. Timothy baptism.

1635. In the early church, that's where you gave

1636. your public testimony, and it talks about many.

1637. Not just a few that were many witnesses

1638. to Timothy giving his testimony

  1639. given his public

1640. confession. And Praise God, we just had a

  1641. baptism Sunday.

1642. And baptism are just so awesome because that's

1643. where you what it means to give a

  1644. confession is a public

  1645. declaration

1646. that you belong to Jesus that you a

1647. follower of Christ. It's a beautiful thing, guys.

1648. And I love baptism and, you know, it's

  1649. a joy. It's such a joy to see

  1650. people.

1651. Their lives their hearts just being changed and

  1652. transformed

1653. and through faith in Christ and then going

  1654. into the water

1655. and and and giving testimony that I belong

  1656. to Jesus,

1657. And what Steven and I will do and

1658. sometimes the other elders, you know, we'll we'll

1659. pray for them, but we'll also make a

1660. declaration of faith, you know, And if you've

1661. been baptized, you know what that's like, You

1662. know, you'll confess Jesus Christ as as your

1663. lord, you confess him as God in the

  1664. flesh, Amen.

1665. Your faith in God, you know, God God

1666. made all things. Amen, and that he

1667. became flesh and that he lived a perfect

1668. life and you'll repeat that and that He

1669. went to the cross, and he paid for

1670. sins and he rose again, and he ascended

1671. the father. He's paying for us now and

1672. he's coming back again. Amen, and receive us

1673. to himself and we with him forever, and

1674. you'll confess that he's your Lord and they

1675. are saved by create... By Grace to faith

1676. and that you you reno the wicked of

  1677. the world.

1678. Amen and Jesus christ is your Lord.

  1679. And you'll have a testimony

1680. in regard to what your faith is. And

1681. if you haven't been baptized it's important,

1682. You know? Now we believe that you're saved

  1683. prior to baptism,

1684. we don't have time to get into that,

1685. But if you're trusting Christ, you're sad, but

1686. if you're truly saved, you'll wanna be baptized

1687. because Jesus says if you love me, obey

1688. my come command and say amen. So that's

1689. very, very important that we confess him.

1690. As our Lord and Savior.

  1691. Second, Timothy 02:12,

1692. paul says if we endure,

1693. we shall also reign with him. If we

1694. deny him, he also would deny us. Paul's

1695. emphasizing the importance of Timothy continuing to hold

  1696. on to his early

  1697. confession

1698. when he publicly declared whether it was his

1699. baptism or somewhere else before many people that

1700. that Jesus is his lord, which by the

1701. way, a big deal in those days guys.

  1702. It's a big deal today because you can't

1703. be saved if you refuse to confess christ

  1704. your Lord.

1705. But in those days, man, it could cost

  1706. you your life.

1707. In fact, it caused many people lives because

1708. they looked at Zeus as the chief God.

1709. And the... And, basically, it came to a

1710. Zenith regarding persecution if you confess jesus Christ

1711. Lord because guess what that meant.

  1712. That meant that

  1713. he's

  1714. higher than

  1715. the Caesars.

1716. And Caesar was supposed to be the head

  1717. guy.

1718. And you were threatening... Well, in fact, look

1719. at what Paul says, Go to first Timothy

    1 Timothy 6 chapter mention

  1720. chapter 6, of verse 12,

1721. and I want you to

  1722. look beyond verse

  1723. 12 to verse 13 and then 14.

1724. I charge you in the presence of God

1725. who gives life to all things and of

1726. Christ Jesus who testified the good confession before

1727. punches pilot, that you keep the command without

1728. staying or rep approach until the appearing of

  1729. our lord Jesus Christ,

1730. which he will bring about at the proper

1731. time. He who is what.

1732. The... The blessing and the only what. The

1733. only sovereign. He say guess what? Caesars not

  1734. the sovereign.

1735. In fact, our Lord God is the only

  1736. sovereign.

1737. The king of kings and the Lord of

1738. Lords? Do you know how?

1739. How s this would seem if you're reading

1740. this in the first century?

  1741. Because

1742. Caesar's... I mean, Jesus was crucified under the

1743. pre pretext that he was claiming to overthrow

  1744. rome. Right?

1745. And that's what the jews said, hey, He.

1746. Oh, we have Caesar or king because that

  1747. was a big deal.

1748. So to call Jesus your Lord, you're only

  1749. sovereign.

  1750. That's a big deal.

1751. And that's what Paul is telling Timothy to

1752. keep up that confession. And by the way,

1753. this is... He's ready at Timothy and Ethic

1754. Ep is a hotbed for Emperor worship.

1755. The emperor was held as Supreme, and Paul

  1756. was writing

  1757. pete Timothy?

1758. Our God supreme. He's the king of kings

  1759. He's a Lord of Lords.

1760. Any of these earthly kings are subs soviet

1761. to him. That's a big deal. He say,

1762. don't quit your confession. Just read the book

1763. of acts. These testimonies got them in a

1764. lot of trouble, but it was very important

  1765. because in chapter 10 versus 9 and 10.

1766. And I'm reading from the complete Jewish Bible

1767. because it brings out the continuous tenses in

1768. these verses. Listen to Romans 10 9 and

1769. 10 about confessing Jews as Lord. That if

1770. you confess publicly or acknowledged publicly,

1771. with your mouth that Yes asu is Lord

1772. and trust in your heart that god raised

1773. him from the dead, you will be delivered.

1774. For with the heart 1 goes on trusting

1775. and this continues toward righteousness

1776. while the with the mouth 1 keeps on

1777. making public acknowledgment and that's continues toward deliverance.

  1778. It's a continual

  1779. confession

1780. fighting the good fight, the idea there is

1781. continuing to fight the good fight. Of course,

1782. Jesus said, if you confess him before the

1783. father or before man, he'll confess before the

1784. father in Heaven in Matthew 10:32

    Matthew 10:32

  1785. and 33 or 31 and 32. But if

1786. you deny him before, man, He'll deny before

1787. the father. Who is in Heaven, and hebrews

1788. reads 04:14 says, therefore since we have a

1789. great high priest, who has passed through the

1790. heavens. Jesus is the son of God, let

1791. us hold fast our confession. So 1 of

1792. the things you're supposed to hold fast to

  1793. is what, to our

1794. confession. The third and last reason

  1795. that Jesus

1796. or Paul gives Timothy to persevere in the

  1797. faith isn't in chapter 2 verse 13, which

1798. we will look at briefly.

  1799. Chapter 2 verse 13.

1800. Paul says I charge you. He's charging Timothy.

1801. In the presence of God, Timothy, God's here

  1802. watching you.

1803. Who gives life to all things. He's the

1804. 1 who deserves your allegiance because he's the

1805. 1 that gives life to all things. And

1806. of Christ Jesus who check this out. Who

  1807. testified

1808. the good confession before po pilot. In other

1809. words, Timothy, you keep your confession. You fight

1810. the good fight of faith. You lay hold

1811. on eternal life to which you were called

1812. and made a confess before many witnesses. You

1813. be a powerful witness. You don't let go

1814. of your testimony. You don't let over your

1815. confession and look to Jesus who before po

1816. pilot gave a good confession. Let him be

1817. your example. And by the way, Jesus, what

1818. was his confession before Pie like are you

1819. king? He says, you said it. I am

1820. a king. And for that reason I was

  1821. born.

1822. He coulda called 12 leads angels to rescue

1823. and what he didn't and he knew he's

1824. was gonna get him crucified. That admission. Yeah.

  1825. I'm king.

  1826. But guess what?

1827. Jesus testified that he was king not so

1828. he could be saved. He persevere his testimony,

1829. so he could die as arcing king for

1830. our sins, so we could be saved, amen.

1831. He didn't have to do it. He did

  1832. it.

1833. But he's telling Paul was telling Timothy, you

1834. need to make sure you keep your confession.

1835. What's the confession the same thing, not that

1836. we're king, that Jesus king. Amen. That he

1837. is king, that he is save Amen? That's

1838. our confession. When do we give it? Whenever

1839. you can, man? Where do you give it

1840. before it believers before non believers because they

1841. need to be saved to amen, We need

1842. to keep our confession and stand fast in

  1843. the faith.

  1844. Where

  1845. everywhere you can. Why?

1846. Because you won't be safe if you don't

1847. confess you as Lord, Romans 10 9 and

1848. 10, and other people need to hear it

  1849. at Amen.

  1850. Now I think it's fascinating

1851. because I started with how Timothy

1852. first Timothy 01:18 through 20, he tells the

    1 Timothy 1:18–20

1853. fight the good fight. The first time he

1854. gives example examples like Hi chai

  1855. And Alexander,

  1856. who didn't

1857. fight the good fight and ship record their

1858. faith. Now he turns to a positive example.

1859. He turns to Jesus. Amen, look to Jesus.

1860. Looked how, he testified before Po pilot, and

1861. he did not give in.

1862. List to Hebrews chapter 12 verse 1 guys.

    Hebrews 12:1

1863. Therefore, since we have so great a cloud

1864. witnesses surrounding us. Let us also lay aside

  1865. every en comforts

1866. and the sin which so easily ent us

1867. and let us run with endurance the race

1868. that is set before us. There are the

1869. races again. Verse 2 fixing our eyes on

1870. Jesus as the author and perfect of faith,

1871. who for the joy sent before him endured

1872. the cross, despise the shame and has sat

1873. down at the right hand of the throne

1874. of god. For consider him,

1875. who has endured such hostility by sinner against

1876. him so that you will not grow weary

  1877. and lose heart. Amen?

1878. So let's fight the good fight of the

  1879. faith.

  1880. That's stand fast. Let's not give in. I

  1881. wanna challenge you. A,

1882. fight the good fight. Don't give in. Don't

  1883. throw in the towel.

1884. Be of fight for your personal faith and

1885. word, and prayer, c, fight for the content

1886. of Christian faith. Stand, for God's truth. Being

1887. ap. For Jesus d, lay hold on eternal

1888. life. Never let it go. E, make your

1889. calling election sure, Continue respond to guys called

1890. don't let your heart get hard because of

1891. sin. F, remember, your public confession before the

1892. many witnesses when you first got saved, and

  1893. g, remember Jesus,

1894. that Jesus testified the Good confession before punches

1895. pilot. He didn't have to do it. He

1896. did it for us because he loves this.

1897. And lastly, h looked to Jesus who finished

1898. and sat down at the right hand of

1899. God, the father Amen, and then guess what.

1900. Revelation 21. I promised the church of Philadelphia,

1901. but everyone has to here,

  1902. Jesus says,

1903. even as I overcame and sat down with

1904. my father on his throne in heaven.

1905. If you overcome, he that overcomes also sit

1906. down with me on my throne amen.

1907. Happy days guy's ahead, Amen.

1908. You can't be at that convention right now,

1909. but you get to be somewhere far better,

1910. the eternal throne of God.

1911. And you'll hear the words well done good

1912. and faithful servant and enter into the Joy

  1913. of the Lord, Amen.

  1914. Out, please stand.
