  1. I've been longing to get into the book

  2. of james with you. We're going verse by

  3. verse... Our fellowship has gone verse by verse

  4. through several books since we started. We have

  5. topical message at times, but we often have

  6. verse by diverse studies through books and

  7. that's my favorite thing to do. Although I

  8. love to talk about topical things as they

  9. come up. And and as we're going through

  10. the book of James, it doesn't mean we

  11. won't have topical teachings here and there where

  12. we get away from the book of James

  13. for a week or 2 here and there.

  14. We'll still talk about

  15. current events. We'll talk about what's going on.

  16. In popular culture that threatens the church, government,

  17. we'll talk about end times. We'll have messages

  18. when things go down that our everybody's questioning

  19. and what's going on, how does this fit

  20. in the bible. You know me. We get

  21. all that stuff. We'll continue to do that.

  22. But I'm so excited about getting in the

  23. book of James with you because James will

  24. revolutionize your life

  25. I started memorizing the book of James a

  26. while back. I'd always memorized surf certain portions

  27. of James, but I started James 1 1

  28. and started I started working my way through

  29. memorizing the book. And it's amazing what you

  30. get out of it because I've literally been

  31. through chapter 1 several hundred times just going

  32. through chapter 1 in preparation

  33. for getting together with you. And it's such

  34. an amazing book because

  35. James is

  36. basically

  37. articulating

  38. the sermon of the mount

  39. that Jesus gave. When you look at it,

  40. it's a blow mind because he has the

  41. mind of Christ.

  42. And I wanna challenge you to look at

  43. James in the way that you don't typically...

  44. You... I think we'll incentivize you if you

  45. understand this. I really got to understand this

  46. through

  47. seeking to memorize the book, and I've got

  48. it quite a ways to go to memorize

  49. the entire book, but I've been working on

  50. it, and my hope in prayers have by

  51. the time we're done going through this. I'll

  52. have every verse of James memorized.

  53. But what blew me away is how much

  54. he... A lot of times people thinks, oh,

  55. he relies a lot on proverbs. No he

  56. doesn't.

  57. There's t mentioned

  58. throughout the book of James a bit, references

  59. to the old testament for sure, but it's

  60. basically the new testament book of proverbs and

  61. he's leaning heavily on the sermon of the

  62. mountain.

  63. Because when he received the sermon on the

  64. mount, this James that wrote this book. It

  65. transformed his life

  66. and it's called Paul calls the mind of

  67. Christ.

  68. And he takes a sermon the mount throughout

  69. the book of James and applies it to

  70. the situation of a church that's scattered in

  71. the early century in the early first century

  72. of church history.

  73. And we're supposed to live by the sermon

  74. mount. Remember Jesus when he gave the sermon

  75. mount. Talked about, at the end of the

  76. sermon he talked about the 1 who puts

  77. these words into practice would be like a

  78. man who builds his house on a what

  79. on a rock. Then when the storms come,

  80. his his house will stand.

  81. In contrast the man who builds his house

  82. on the sand,

  83. Not a God's word

  84. and the house is incredibly destroyed when the

  85. floods come.

  86. By the way, remember to certain out. Talks

  87. about that. Well, James, what does he say

  88. James chapter 1.

    James 1 chapter mention

  89. Right?

  90. You know, be doers the word not mary

  91. merely hears who d yourselves. Amen?

  92. That's right. 1 of those connections to the

  93. sermon on the mount. He tells us to

  94. be doing, the we're not here is only

  95. who deceive ourselves. So James out being a

  96. genuine believer. Truly build your house on the

  97. rock. And it blows me away when I

  98. look at James, I'm so blown away by

  99. James. Because by way of introduction, I'll notice

  100. a lot of people

  101. I've got some 30 or so commentaries that

  102. I'm using right now,

  103. as I as I study the book of

  104. James, seen different

  105. insights, different understanding he's challenging my view on

  106. certain things and and so forth, confirming my

  107. view and other things,

  108. expanding

  109. my horizons and enhancing my perspective. I think

  110. it's great to check out commentaries,

  111. but many of them say that James... Many

  112. of these commentaries and their introductions,

  113. will say that James is kind of a

  114. bunch of new testament proverbs just thrown together.

  115. There's no rhyme or reason.

  116. Having

  117. embarked on memorizing the book. I already thought

  118. that was not untrue, but it's so ridiculous.

  119. You'll see as we go through the book

  120. of James.

  121. How connected it is. It's a bunch of

  122. precious

  123. you know, res

  124. pearls strung together beautifully

  125. as a whole pearl.

  126. But if you don't really study the book

  127. of James Fact, when I read that I'm

  128. thinking you shouldn't to be writing in the

  129. commentary here, James, I'm sorry. Some of these

  130. comment, like, because if you don't even see

  131. how this under... This links together, I'm sad.

  132. I'm shocked.

  133. So we're gonna see how it connects together,

  134. but what blows me away

  135. is we're call that Christians be transformed by

  136. the renewing of our mines.

  137. By the word of God amen.

  138. And to have the mind of Christ and

  139. look at reality through the lenses of god's

  140. eyes, Amen, spiritually,

  141. the natural man doesn't receive the things the

  142. spirit. But they are spiritually app praise. And

  143. when you have the mind of Christ, you

  144. can spiritually app praise things. You can walk

  145. to no path that Jesus talked about in

  146. the sermon in the mount. And when you

  147. look at James, you see he is a

  148. man that's been revolutionized by the teaching of

  149. the Lord Jesus Christ. By the sermon in

  150. the mount. And he exceeds he's addressing

  151. chapter 1 verse 1 is James a bond

  152. servant of Jesus Christ. Right?

  153. And and not have just God. A demons

  154. of God and of Jesus Christ to the...

  155. Who's addressed to you to those who are

  156. scattered or dispersed the 12 tribes of Israel.

  157. He's addressing believers who have been scattered because

  158. of persecution.

  159. And we're gonna... These first 2 messages are

  160. gonna be devour verse 1.

  161. Okay? By way of introduction. And you're going

  162. understand that James,

  163. a bonds of God and it lord you

  164. this Christ the 12 tribe of who. 12

  165. tri israel, of course, who are what.

  166. Dispersed abroad greetings.

  167. They've been dispersed because the church has undergone

  168. persecution in the early chapters in the book

  169. of acts, not long after acts chapter 2

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  170. and 3 and the church has grown by

  171. the thousands. It's been scattered throughout the Roman

  172. empire, where the apostles are hanging out still

  173. in Jerusalem as God uses as Jerusalem as

  174. a headquarters for a while.

  175. And now these new believers

  176. are trying to get their bearing spiritually.

  177. They're tempted. Some of them have anger

  178. because how their being mistreated by wicked people.

  179. That's why James says be angry. Right? But

  180. don't sin. That's what Paul says. But James

  181. is a very interesting thing. He says, the

  182. anger man is not wet.

  183. Produce the righteousness of God. Amen.

  184. So you're saying don't don't sin. If you're

  185. upset, don't... Like Paul was say, don't don't

  186. send in it. And that's why you're seeing

  187. a lot James...

  188. In the very next versus is considered all

  189. join my brother when you encounter various what.

  190. Trials. He knows they're going through trials.

  191. So you have to get the understand of

  192. and I don't wanna give you. I could

  193. give you an introduction by way. Oh, let's

  194. talk about James theology. Let's talk about his

  195. es methodology. Let's talk about this. That the

  196. other. And I thought I don't wanna bog

  197. us down.

  198. Get into everything James teaches by way of

  199. introduction, and and then get it into it.

  200. I wanna say a little bit by way

  201. of introduction,

  202. a little bit for me is,

  203. a, lot deeper than you're getting almost any

  204. commentary okay with first couple versus, you'll see

  205. that first verse, especially, but I don't want

  206. to get down. I don't wanna go forward

  207. and talk about the entirety of the book.

  208. You know, this and this and this is

  209. out and this... No. I wanna take it

  210. first by verse but I wanted to devour

  211. what we're looking at

  212. in James chapter 1, and I want you

    James 1 chapter mention

  213. to have the mind of Christ.

  214. I want you to see how the sermon

  215. of the mount is being applied

  216. by James to believers that are being persecuted.

  217. Into their in their specific situations because guess

  218. what's gonna happen in the church?

  219. And guess what has happened in the church

  220. in places like China. K?

  221. The Middle East, it's already being scattered.

  222. There are pastors that are arrested and put

  223. to death, believers that are put to death.

  224. Our country, United States America, Australia, New Zealand.

  225. These countries are anomalies in church history.

  226. Most believers in most places have

  227. have gone through incredible

  228. persecution.

  229. Armenia was called the first Christian country, but

  230. it was decimated and destroyed practically by

  231. millions of millions of them killed, profess Christians

  232. by Muslims.

  233. K? We have not had that kind of

  234. persecution here, but we can see the woke

  235. writing on the wall. Can't we?

  236. Where a lot of this is headed. We

  237. see that Jesus says all those who live

  238. godly or Paul said, all those who have

  239. godly in christ. Jesus will suffer persecution amen.

  240. So we know

  241. ab even in a Christian country where we're

  242. not being fully persecuted yet.

  243. They're still persecution against Christianity.

  244. So this book is such a gem because

  245. it has so many so much encouragement as

  246. how to live as a christian in a

  247. fallen wicked world.

  248. Now,

  249. It's not a hodgepodge

  250. of prop proverbs that are just slapped together.

  251. So some say, well, it's written by James

  252. disciples, and they kinda put his teachings together

  253. and threw them together. No. It's not like

  254. that either.

  255. So James

  256. also was attacked by Martin Luther,

  257. the father of the reformation

  258. Martin Luther said, quote, James Mango scriptures, and

  259. thereby opposes Paul.

  260. Now what's a trip is some say, well,

  261. James doesn't talk a lot about Jesus. In

  262. fact, you barely see a reference to Jesus.

  263. It they does say in in James to

  264. not hold your faith in the... Our glorious,

  265. lord Jesus. He all. And then the time

  266. he mentions he call him our glorious Lord

  267. Jesus. He mentions him in verse 1 as

  268. well.

  269. But understand this, I know of no

  270. teaching in the new testament outside of Jesus

  271. own teachings. I know of no new testament

  272. letter epi that more

  273. communicates, Jesus is teaching than this book right

  274. here.

  275. Because I mentioned the sermon on the mount

  276. Amen,

  277. Jesus most radical, most amazing

  278. most powerful message.

  279. It's perm.

  280. James has so caught up in Jesus and

  281. is teaching.

  282. But he's trying to get practical wisdom to

  283. a church

  284. that is in disarray

  285. that They're not getting paid when they mow

  286. people's fields James chapter 5, and they're being

    James 5 chapter mention

  287. thrown in, they're being taken to court by

  288. rich people. They're going through all kinds of

  289. persecution.

  290. Because they're they're in different regions, they're different

  291. provinces. They're scattered abroad. So it doesn't get

  292. too specific into 1 specific region. So it

  293. basically

  294. addresses all of them.

  295. But when Martin Luther says James Mango of

  296. scriptures and thereby opposes Paul.

  297. He actually said, he... His view is he

  298. feels like Jimmy. Speaking of James. Jimmy should

  299. be thrown in the fire. You know? That's

  300. what Martin Luther was saying about James.

  301. And that's because

  302. during the reformation when he was disputing with

  303. the Roman Catholics and emphasizing that, hey, Paul

  304. states that were saved by Grace you faith,

  305. the Roman Catholics during the reformation would say,

  306. well, faith of that works as dead. And

  307. they would use changes writing as it was

  308. an opposition to what Paul Taught in some

  309. way. Right?

  310. And Luther actually

  311. lost that part of the debate in the

  312. sense that he back pedal on James. Later

  313. on, he except... He accepts James as part

  314. of the cannon because Christians have for for

  315. thousands... If we're almost 2000 years, guys. He

  316. accepts it, but he says it should be

  317. put in the back of the cannon, relegated

  318. to the back of the cannon.

  319. But he loses the debate, not on whether

  320. we're saved by Grace or by merit, Roman

  321. catholicism teaches that were saved by our merits,

  322. what we do, burning ourselves out of purgatory

  323. things of that nature, and it's it's here.

  324. Luther right. We're saved by Grace to faith.

  325. That not of ourselves paul says a gift

  326. of God, not it works us any much

  327. of boast. Amen.

  328. But James is not opposing Paul.

  329. James is opposing those who abuse grace, which

  330. the apostle paul opposes as well.

  331. How many times did Paul say, like, at

  332. first Corinthians 6 9 through 11. Second,

  333. Galatians is chapter 5 versus 19 through 21

    Isaiah 5 chapter mention

  334. with chapter 6 versus 7 through 9. Or

  335. go or ephesians? Chapter 5 versus

  336. 7 through 8.

  337. Really 538. How many times this Paul warned

  338. don't be to deceived those who live wicked

  339. lives? Not inherit the kingdom of God, amen.

  340. How many of his times as Paul say,

  341. warren about those who profess to know him,

  342. Titus 116, but by their works deny him.

  343. Paul states to the Galatians church who he's

  344. emphasized were saved by grace. He goes on

  345. to say faith works through love.

  346. And Paul... So Paul And james both oppose

  347. those

  348. who twist grace into a license

  349. and teach an empty form of faith.

  350. They're not opposed to 1 another. In fact,

  351. I'm happy to say most of modern scholarship

  352. that's evangelical now. Much of it. I should

  353. say,

  354. understands that James was written very early. Okay?

  355. And was not... And Paul's writings and Paul's

  356. teaching of justification by faith,

  357. was not on... Not even on his radar.

  358. Okay? And by the way, Jesus taught, were

  359. justified by faith. For Jesus have forgot To

  360. love the world that they gave him and

  361. let got said that whoever wet.

  362. Believes in shall not purest but have ever

  363. last life. That's the message of the gospel.

  364. He amen of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  365. That was Peter's message. To believe in the

  366. Lord Jesus the early chapters of acts be

  367. before while Paul is having Christians killed.

  368. So there's no opposition between James and Paul.

  369. In fact, James is written very early. It's

  370. probably the the book of James it's probably

  371. the earliest book many scholars believe this that

  372. was written in the new testament.

  373. Before Matthew Mark Luke and John, even before

  374. first Corinthians

  375. and other books.

  376. Many dated it to the early mid forties,

  377. mid forties

  378. Ad,

  379. which is really remarkable.

  380. And because it's so primitive in,

  381. the way it

  382. is dealing with who. Who it dealing with?

  383. Who it addressed to? James, the bon of

  384. God and Lord jesus is christ to the

  385. what? 12 tribes who are scattered or dispersed

  386. abroad It's dealing with the early Christians were

  387. all Jewish for the most part. Do you

  388. remember that. Right?

  389. All the early Christians were Jews before the

  390. gentile towels, of the door that was opened

  391. the gentile towels, it acts 10 and 11

  392. and so forth began to that door started

  393. the swing open.

  394. And most believe that James, many, I should

  395. say many

  396. very good eventually sellers believe that James was

  397. written well before.

  398. Acts chapter 15 when there was a dispute

    Acts 15 chapter mention

  399. as to how gentile towels were to be

  400. saved. In fact, the big dispute is on

  401. the torah.

  402. In in

  403. acts chapter 15, with James brother Jesus, Peter

    Acts 15 chapter mention

  404. John Paul there, whether Gentile towels have to

  405. be.

  406. A big dispute to be saved.

  407. And

  408. James, the brother Lord writes a letter, crafts

  409. it from the apostle say no, Gentile tells

  410. do not have to keep the law of

  411. Moses to be saved.

  412. Well,

  413. James doesn't even deal with that issue in

  414. the book of James. If that was a

  415. big issue, and acts 15 had already happened.

  416. You think James would mention, especially since he

  417. mentions the law a few different times, but

  418. it's not even on his radar.

  419. So

  420. no. Don't throw Jimmy in the fire, guys.

  421. Study Jimmy. Hey, man. Study James.

  422. Be thankful that God has given us this

  423. book. It's the favorite book of many people

  424. for reason because many people's lives have been

  425. transformed, and I'm so excited about this book

  426. for you and me.

  427. Because I believe as we study this book

  428. together, if your prayer, your heart cry is

  429. being Lord God.

  430. Help me to become more like Christ.

  431. Lord help me to know your word better.

  432. Help me to walk this straight and narrow

  433. better. Help me to glorify your name better.

  434. Help me to understand what it means to

  435. not be under the love Moses, but to

  436. be under the love of Christ and obey

  437. it.

  438. We've got the right book man.

  439. Help me practically know how to apply your

  440. truth to my life. We're in the right

  441. book.

  442. Help me be a radical believer. James is

  443. radical.

  444. 1 thing everybody agrees about regarding James is

  445. he is a radical

  446. Christian.

  447. Now,

  448. the question

  449. arises.

  450. Okay.

  451. Which James is this?

  452. Which James is writing here.

  453. And that's 1 of the questions that people

  454. have. There's about 4 James in the bible

  455. at in the new testament.

  456. James name is really Jacob, You know, you

  457. know, a Ko in a, the old testament,

  458. the hebrew.

  459. But king James, when the king James bible

  460. was being made.

  461. James sounds a lot like Jacob. So let's

  462. call it James after me.

  463. Wrong. Not good. Okay. So you could call

  464. them Jacob if you want, you know, so

  465. much for king James Goalie.

  466. Hey, amen.

  467. Anyways, it's interesting

  468. because when we look at who wrote the

  469. book of James.

  470. There's some things that you really have to

  471. think about.

  472. You really have to consider.

  473. And when you penetrate this, it's a blow

  474. mind man.

  475. When we really,

  476. think about it. The most prominent James is

  477. there's 2 of them. It has to be

  478. a prominent, James. How do... Why do I

  479. say this?

  480. It has to be 1 of the prominent

  481. James. Why?

  482. Because he doesn't say, he doesn't identify which

  483. James he is.

  484. He just says James. Right?

  485. Right?

  486. A bond servant of of God of the

  487. Lord Jesus Christ the 12 tribes who are

  488. just... Burst to broad greetings.

  489. So he just says James.

  490. So we should... In other words, his audience

  491. first should know who he is.

  492. Right? So if if you're Alexander the great

  493. or you're Napoleon. Right? And you're writing a

  494. letter.

  495. Right?

  496. If if you are writing a letter of

  497. a bunch of people and people are already

  498. know who you are polling, You don't have

  499. to say anything beyond Napoleon. Right?

  500. If for Alexander the. You don't have to

  501. even say the Great. Alexander and sent out

  502. to all the people. K?

  503. This James takes for granted that people, I

  504. believe will know who he is. When he

  505. writes his letter.

  506. So this only leaves 2 James as I

  507. believe as

  508. strong possibilities

  509. That would be James the apostle.

  510. 1 of the sons of Thunder, which is

  511. in Jesus Inner circle,

  512. James, his brother, John, the sons of Z,

  513. who Jesus nickname the sons of under.

  514. John wrote 5 books,

  515. Gospel John, first segment third, john the book

  516. revelation. Peter wrote first and second, Peter under

  517. Did James, the apostle not write what book

  518. even? What he's the inner circle who Jesus

  519. charging for leadership?

  520. Or did he did he write this? James?

  521. And then there's another James

  522. who's prominent.

  523. That is the brother of the Lord Jesus

  524. Christ.

  525. Right?

  526. And he's the 1 who crafted the letter

  527. in acts chapter 15, although there's different scholars

    Acts 15 chapter mention

  528. through the history that don't believe. James in

  529. chapter 15 is even the brother of jesus

  530. because it's not identified there as a brother

  531. of Jesus.

  532. Something he was James, you know, the son

  533. of A, 1 of the set... 1 of

  534. the 12 apostles. Fact, a number of people

  535. who trip I trips me out. When I

  536. look back at the reformer and stuff thought

  537. that.

  538. Although I personally believe that James, the brother

  539. of Jesus is the is the apostle, or

  540. I'm not the apostle. The James in

  541. acts chapter 15.

    Acts 15 chapter mention

  542. And

  543. some will say, well, you know, it's it's

  544. A, you know?

  545. How many you remember James the son of

  546. Alt. It it's not very common. A lot

  547. of people, Christians be like, who what you

  548. talking about? He was 1 of the 12

  549. apostles too.

  550. There were 2 James

  551. that were apostles.

  552. If we're gonna use the word James.

  553. Okay?

  554. And I think it's interesting

  555. to to think about because,

  556. well,

  557. the Jam Macarthur study bible. And I don't

  558. agree with this comment.

  559. States of the 4 men named James in

  560. the new testament,

  561. only 2 are candidates.

  562. For the authors ship of the epi. Argue

  563. with that much. He's right there Only 2

  564. are probably really good candidates

  565. for the authors ship of the epi. Then

  566. he says no 1 seriously considered James. No

  567. 1 seriously considered

  568. James, the less, the son of Alt.

  569. And he's saying that because

  570. James, the son of Alt

  571. is not prominent at all. He's just mentioned

  572. among the 12. You don't see him really

  573. engage really leading

  574. as you see James the apostle,

  575. John

  576. Peter

  577. and so forth.

  578. But he's wrong when he says in the

  579. study bible, no 1 has seriously considered James

  580. the less, the son of Alt.

  581. Because John Calvin and he's a Calvin. John

  582. Calvin believe it was john James was a

  583. son of Alt at apostle. Thomas Man, who

  584. has probably the most popular commentary from from

  585. years back, on the book of James,

  586. I've had that for many, many years since

  587. I was young Christian. He believes that. Matthew

  588. Henry, Have you read Matthew Henry's commentary. He

  589. believes it's Apostle, of James, the son of

  590. Alt.

  591. Matthew Pool, another popular Commentary that's online also

  592. believes it refers to James the son of

  593. a. So

  594. I think,

  595. I'm getting my pages. If I seem a

  596. little rattle that first because I got some

  597. disarray going up here, but I, you understand

  598. where... But I'm making sense to you.

  599. Okay. So I'm... But do I believe was

  600. James and Son of? No.

  601. I don't believe there's... I haven't seen any

  602. good evidence for that. You know? Like, why?

  603. Hawaii.

  604. So, you know, that's 1

  605. consideration though. Now,

  606. Most

  607. believe it's James, the brother of Jesus.

  608. Some,

  609. Out of the 30 or so plus commentaries

  610. that I have on James, I've only found

  611. 2

  612. that believe it's James the apostle.

  613. Every other 1 believes this James, the brother

  614. of Jesus?

  615. Now do we put our finger in the

  616. air and say, oh, who what what do

  617. most caller say? We've never done that here.

  618. Okay? So we're not gonna do that. When

  619. gonna say, okay, What's the evidence?

  620. And I think it's interesting because I wanna...

  621. I'd like to have a good idea of

  622. who's writing to me, you know?

  623. And and and I I hate to say

  624. this to you. My

  625. Ey lean a certain way, but I'm not

  626. definite on this.

  627. K. 1 of my favorite reform scholars, and

  628. we're not reformed here, but I like,

  629. some reform scholars when they're not writing on.

  630. Reformed theology.

  631. When they're writing on this sufficiency description and

  632. so forth, they could be great. And in

  633. certain other topics. But it's interesting.

  634. 1 of my favorite reform scholars is Douglas

  635. moo.

  636. And Douglas Mu,

  637. he just discard,

  638. James the apostle with like 1 sentence. Well,

  639. it's probably too early for him to written

  640. it.

  641. Just... And he says probably. And he has

  642. 2 different commentaries on James. And the other

  643. 1 he says it's likely

  644. In otherwise, it's probably. Really probably based on

  645. what?

  646. Well, first of all, let's clear this up,

  647. how many of your thinking, Joe, you're saying

  648. he had to be a very prominent James.

  649. Because people would just know him as James.

  650. But you're saying there's 2 prominent James.

  651. That kind of destroys your view, your theory,

  652. it doesn't make sense. No. It makes perfect

  653. sense when we you understand this. 1 James

  654. is more prominent at 1 time in church

  655. history.

  656. The other James is more prominent at the

  657. other time in church history.

  658. Are you with me? Which James was prominent

  659. in the early chapters of the book of

  660. acts?

  661. Who say loud?

  662. The apostle James. Right? In fact, the brother,

  663. the Lord Jesus and his family members,

  664. They weren't even be believers. His brothers and

  665. sisters until Jesus rose from the dead. Amen.

  666. So he was not gonna all be, you

  667. know, born again

  668. right after these rise to the dead, and

  669. then the popular James that are already listens

  670. to because he now needs to find out

  671. what it teaches it was really meant by

  672. and what his teaching really was and and

  673. so forth. So in the first chapters, you

  674. don't see James, the brother, Lord accept the

  675. fact that he was there at the day

  676. of Pent, and you see later that Paul

  677. says that Jesus appeared to him after he

  678. risen from the dead.

  679. Yeah, I love James brother, Lord. He's awesome.

  680. Could you imagine? Jesus being your older brother?

  681. And now your... If this is him, and

  682. that's gonna be the way I roll throughout

  683. most of this series

  684. is I believe it could be either or.

  685. I don't believe he be could be dogma

  686. on this.

  687. In fact, Lug at Douglas mood admits, even

  688. though he believes as James as the brother

  689. of the Lord.

  690. Douglas Moo says on page 10 if his

  691. letter of James commentary.

  692. The case for authors ship to this point

  693. is

  694. influential.

  695. Meaning, you really can't know who the author

  696. is. It's it's influential.

  697. He says proof is, proof. Actual proof is

  698. in the nature of the case unavailable.

  699. Meaning if we don't have proof

  700. that's clear and decisive

  701. which James it is.

  702. Although he offers up some of the influential

  703. evidence that suggest It may be the brother

  704. of Jesus.

  705. Now,

  706. it's interesting.

  707. Understand this

  708. when the early church formed

  709. and the book of Ax filled the holy

  710. spirit.

  711. In acts chapter 2, 3000 get saved and

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  712. acts chapter 4, 4000 mortgage saved. There's all

    Acts 4 chapter mention

  713. kinds of believers. Right?

  714. And right soon after that, they're scattered all

  715. over the Roman empire.

  716. It's very easy you see James, the apostle

  717. writing to them. And if and if James

  718. the apostle wrote to them at that time,

  719. or even 10 years later or whatever it

  720. was.

  721. He would be the James that was known.

  722. At this point.

  723. He wouldn't have to put James in apostle

  724. Jesus.

  725. So I'm say, why did he just say

  726. James the apostle, Jesus if he's the apostle?

  727. You could say, well, why didn't... The other

  728. James say James, the have brother of Jesus...

  729. It's an argument from silence,

  730. kinda null fight each other don't they?

  731. So if James was written by James the

  732. apostle,

  733. it would have been in the earlier chapters

  734. the book of acts sometime after the church

  735. had been scattered, which we find out church

  736. was scattered in verse 1. That's who has

  737. been addressed.

  738. However,

  739. James, the apostle,

  740. becomes the first marty among the apostles.

  741. In church history had that privilege.

  742. He was the first marty, acts chapter 12.

    Acts 12 chapter mention

  743. It's just at that time

  744. in chapter 11 and so forth and 12,

  745. and following, we see the other James coming

  746. to Prominence.

  747. And then we see in acts 15,

  748. not Peter wasn't the first pope. There was

  749. James,

  750. this... The brother of Jesus.

  751. What we do see, which is quite remarkable.

  752. As we see James, as I mentioned, he's

  753. the 1 that craft that letter,

  754. which is really interesting. He writes a letter

  755. too

  756. not the Jews though, by He writes a

  757. letter to gentile titles,

  758. believers that they don't have to be.

  759. And, of course, it's not his letter alone

  760. Peter and John or there and so forth.

  761. But he says, basically, he concludes.

  762. And he was a leader of the church

  763. there in Jerusalem. So now, let's say some

  764. time goes by after the apostle James dies.

  765. Right?

  766. Now who's the prominent James. Who?

  767. James the brother, Jesus, Amen. So say a

  768. few years goes by. Right? You're maybe in

  769. the late forties now, Right? Mid to late

  770. forties in the church is scattered,

  771. Then guess what.

  772. Then you get a letter from James. You're

  773. probably thinking it's from who. Unless you speak

  774. is a really old letter

  775. is from James brother of Jesus. Amen.

  776. So we do understand that it's gotta be

  777. 1 of the prominent James because he's a

  778. qualify which James he is, number 1.

  779. Number 2, it doesn't contradict the idea that's

  780. it's from 1 of the prominent James because

  781. Both James were prominent at what,

  782. different times in church history. Amen.

  783. Now I know I'm getting a little bit

  784. technical.

  785. But I wanna get a little more technical

  786. because to me, the best evidence

  787. that's used by those that say, this is

  788. a good inference that I think it's the

  789. best evidence is, I don't believe dating is

  790. not the best evidence because we don't know

  791. when it was written. It could've have been

  792. written in the mid thirties. Some have it

  793. being written in 33, 34 ad.

  794. Some have it in the later thirties, you

  795. know? Because the church had been dispersed. And

  796. they would eat counsel. And I know as

  797. a pastor. If you guys all got dispersed,

  798. and I didn't have email and I didn't

  799. have texting and that didn't exist, And our

  800. fellowship got disperse all over the place. I

  801. went sit around and wait 10 years to

  802. write to you.

  803. Okay? So I I think it was probably

  804. written personally in the mid to late thirties

  805. or early forties.

  806. Or mid forties before James was marty, James

  807. marty in 44 ad d guys.

  808. That gives James the apostle plenty of time

  809. to write this letter.

  810. And there's no staunch evidence. This is when

  811. it was written. We don't know.

  812. So you're just looking at a letter written

  813. by a James. That's to those who are

  814. scattered abroad. What I do believe is this.

  815. I believe there's good evidence that that shows

  816. us very very possible that James the brother

  817. of Jesus wrote it.

  818. But I also believe there's good evidence

  819. that suggests it could have been the apostle,

  820. James.

  821. But what's ironic is when I read commentaries,

  822. they'll just miss him with Oh, it probably

  823. as Moose says, and I love move, but,

  824. oh, it's probably too early for him. Probably,

  825. how do you know? You don't have any

  826. give me any evidence when it was written.

  827. You don't know when it was written.

  828. People beep some have it written as 69

  829. Ad, which is really late. Know,

  830. So we don't know when it was exactly

  831. written.

  832. In fact,

  833. moo believes, and I agree that James was

  834. written before acts chapter 15. And he states

    Acts 15 chapter mention

  835. it was probably written. He says, and I'm

  836. not kidding. We'll see this next time in

  837. the mid forties.

  838. Well the mid forties be anywhere from 43

  839. 44, 45 46 47.

  840. And then he says probably 44 80. I'm

  841. like, probably 44 ad. That's right when James

  842. dies. The apostle. The prominent James at that

  843. time.

  844. How come it could have been written 43

  845. 80 or maybe it was 44 just before

  846. he

  847. before he died and was murdered by King

  848. Ag grip.

  849. Her Grip, or maybe it was written in

  850. 40. We don't know.

  851. So I love these kinds of things to

  852. look at them. Of course,

  853. I'm a

  854. student of scripture and I love to see

  855. various arguments. And I'm not a contra. And

  856. I don't wanna be contrary. I usually agree

  857. with assessments that are made by evan scholars

  858. regarding authors, conservative scholars. On this 1, I'm

  859. on the fence.

  860. You know? I'm on the fence in this

  861. 1.

  862. But this is a good point that is

  863. made those who are in favor of Jesus

  864. being the brother,

  865. are John or this James being the brother

  866. of Jesus. And this point is this,

  867. is,

  868. although many make it wrong. Okay? They'll point

  869. out and say, well, James 1 1, if

  870. you look at the James 1 James a

  871. demons of God and the Lord Jesus Christ,

  872. to the 12 tribes are scattered abroad at

  873. greetings. That word greetings right there.

  874. There's various words that could be used for

  875. greetings usually related to Cairo or

  876. a cara, the Greek word for,

  877. you know, grace and so forth. But it's

  878. interesting, let's look at the next slide in

  879. James 1 1,

  880. You'll see, look at this and james 1

  881. 1 James a servant of God out of

  882. the Lord Jesus Christ to the 12 tribes

  883. who are scattered among the nation's greetings.

  884. Okay? And there's a greek word. Okay. And

  885. it's chi.

  886. Ky related to Ky.

  887. And guess what? People will point out that

  888. James 1 1

  889. different commentaries I have will say, the only

  890. other place you see that, a number of

  891. them make this point.

  892. The ones that get in more depth. They'll

  893. say the only other place you see that

  894. is in James letter in acts chapter 15,

    Acts 15 chapter mention

  895. James brother Jesus.

  896. Let's look at the next verse.

  897. With them, they sent the following letter,

  898. this is acts chapter.

  899. 15 verse 23. With them, they sent the

  900. following letter, the apostles and elders. So it's

  901. really from all the apostles and elders, but

  902. James the 1 who were at writes at

  903. your brothers to the wet.

  904. Gentile towels and antioch, Syria, and Ce,

  905. greetings. Guess what the Greek Word is I

  906. have it up there for you. Ky,

  907. same word.

  908. That's not a common word used for greetings.

  909. In fact, many of these commentaries will point

  910. out it's only used in these 2 letters.

  911. But guess what I did.

  912. I had to do word search. So I

  913. look for Ky.

  914. And every time it's easy It's usually sound...

  915. I found Was usually translated I rejoice and

  916. so forth. But guess what I found out.

  917. There's another letter,

  918. you know, that it uses the word greetings

  919. as well. It uses the same 1, but

  920. it's not eaten... It's not either James or

  921. this James.

  922. That's acts chapter 23.

    Acts 23 chapter mention

  923. And we don't have that up. I'm sorry.

  924. I have it in my notes and it

  925. just when it was... When I gave the

  926. scriptures to be put up there, it got

  927. missed. And I know how I got mixed

  928. this whoever was putting them down, looked saw

  929. acts. Oh, I already got x. But t

  930. forgot... Got this axe. This is... And you

  931. could go there if you want acts chapter

    Acts 23 chapter mention

  932. 23 versus 25 and 26.

  933. And it's... And this is a letter from

  934. a pagan ruler

  935. regarding Paul and the Jews saying that he's

  936. up, you know, through overthrow the lot of

  937. Moses and so forth. And he wrote a

  938. letter with the following content

  939. Cla, that's and I'm quoting the text. Text

  940. says in verse 25, and he wrote a

  941. letter with the following content,

  942. Cla.

  943. To the most excellent governor Felix

  944. greetings.

  945. Guess what the greek word is there. Ky.

  946. Okay? So it's not uncommon term and it's

  947. so actually kinda overthrow the idea while so

  948. uncommon. No it's not so uncommon. It was

  949. used. It's actually used by someone other than

  950. James.

  951. So it could've have been used by both

  952. James.

  953. But the idea that it's used by this

  954. James, which he's writing the letter, so he

  955. probably picked by the holy spirit,

  956. what word to use and then James 11I

  957. believe is at least suggested that it very

  958. well. It's it's influential. It could've have been

  959. the brother Lord.

  960. That I I still believe though there's... The

  961. the better point to be made... I mean,

  962. more accurately it would say it's only used

  963. 3 times, but tour by James here and

  964. then this James. So it's possible at the

  965. same James. But as

  966. Douglas mood admits,

  967. it's not proof. It's just.

  968. It's suggestive evidence.

  969. And scholars who point out a couple other

  970. features in the Greek that are similar to

  971. James, which I think are interesting, but not

  972. as strong as this. This 1 is actually

  973. pretty strong. III

  974. concede. I agree. And it's because of these

  975. things that I'm not sure It's not this

  976. James.

  977. You know? I I usually could put my

  978. foot down, but this isn't a matter of

  979. doctrine. But since we're starting James, I was

  980. gonna bug me if I don't give you

  981. the arguments throughout the book of James, and

  982. and just say, well, it could be this

  983. James or without, James. Right?

  984. But, however,

  985. having said all that guys.

  986. I could give you the evidence for the

  987. other James, which is, I think is incredibly

  988. strong by the way. Okay?

  989. And I breaks my heart when I go

  990. through these commentaries. I'm not seen anybody make

  991. it. And even,

  992. a comment from the 18 hundreds kinda makes

  993. some good points. And 1 comment I have,

  994. he doesn't make enough points, but he makes

  995. a couple good points. Seen But,

  996. and you can search online. Evidence for the

  997. Apostle James. You have... You'll scarce find arguments.

  998. It's it's actually kinda sad. When you put

  999. them together, it's a blow mind actually, which

  1000. it's it's still influential. It's not proof positive.

  1001. It's written by James Apostle, but it'll it'll

1002. make your head the whoa.

1003. Know... I on the property that says when

1004. 1 presents his case, it seems true. But

1005. then when you see the other side of

  1006. the case,

1007. and that seems true. Right? So So the

1008. good thing is this isn't an about salvation

1009. issue. Amen. It's not whether... It's not an

1010. issue to to argue about. Not even an

1011. issue. I'd I wanna say the debate on

1012. because it's just not that consequential.

1013. What I do. So... But I thought if

1014. I spend the rest of the time

1015. on the arguments for the other James,

1016. We will have only gotten through the arguments

1017. of which James wrote it in this

  1018. service, which is cool

1019. and some of things I mentioned about James.

  1020. But I don't wanna do that.

1021. So... But some of your you're thinking, I'd

1022. like to hear the evidence for the other

1023. James. Right? I've seen heads go like this.

1024. Well, I wanna share that with you, but

1025. I'll do that next week.

1026. Because I wanna challenge you

1027. and and get into a little bit of

1028. what James says in the first verse, and

1029. we'll get the more when he says next

1030. week in the first first,

1031. because I don't want you to leave here

1032. just thinking about which James wrote it. So

1033. I'll get the evidence for... I was talking

1034. Lisa over with Lisa over lunch.

1035. About this. So she was, how you gonna

1036. resolve the issue? Ago... I wanna talk about

  1037. James,

1038. who wrote at the entire message.

1039. She was, well, you should maybe do the

1040. second 1 on Wednesday. To show the other

1041. James I go, nah. I thought about that

  1042. too, but

1043. he he he he deserves a Sunday too.

1044. So he'll gets someone next Sunday.

1045. Okay? Because what I wanted to do is

  1046. get into

  1047. What he says, James 1 1, James a

1048. bond servant of God, of the lord Jesus

1049. Christ. Amen. I wanna get into what we

1050. do know about this James.

1051. Is that he's a bond servant of God

1052. and of the lord Jesus Christ Amen.

  1053. And what that means

1054. and how if you don't identify as a

1055. bond to Jesus Christ, the rest of the

1056. book is not gonna impact you. You have

1057. to make sure you are a servant of

1058. Jesus Christ. And then again, think if

  1059. if this is

1060. the brother of the Lord Jesus.

1061. And Jesus his older brother who he'd rejected,

1062. and then he saw him resurrected.

  1063. That's pretty powerful.

1064. He identifies him as his Lord. The big

1065. brother finally won. Little brothers don't like to

1066. let big brothers win. They fight against them.

1067. I mean, I remember my brother, Tom, and

1068. I I was always... As always been bigger,

1069. You know, he's a tough. Fighter, man. After

  1070. I got saved, and I a brawl, he

1071. became a brawl, but he... I always had

1072. the size and the age and just the

  1073. age. If I was half a size, I

1074. think the age would be intimidating. Right? You

1075. bigger brothers who were a little smaller than

  1076. your

  1077. younger brothers, by size.

1078. And I remember Tom. Little brothers, they admire

1079. the big brothers, but they also wanna beat

1080. them They challenge them. You just watch justice

  1081. and Eli.

  1082. Okay? It's kind of a... It's it's a

1083. trip watching them, and I, we all encourage

1084. them to love each other, which they do

1085. deep down. You know? But they're also very

  1086. competitive, and they got a dad who's a

1087. wrestling coach. So you can imagine,

  1088. there's some

1089. rough times we see sometimes in our living

1090. room, backyard, their house, even more probably.

  1091. But I remember Tom,

1092. I got boxing gloves, and I was, like,

  1093. probably 13 12:13 14. I don't know. And

  1094. I wanted to box him I go let's

1095. I go, their gloves that won't hurt. And,

1096. of course, box his ears off. He's say

  1097. doesn't want a box anymore. So then I

  1098. I said, hey, I'll just do it 1

1099. hand. And I'm the older brother still, and

1100. I'm still boxing his ears off with just

1101. a jab or whatever I was doing. And

1102. then he quit again. I was like, I

1103. got these new gloves and he doesn't want

1104. a box, So then I said, hey, Tom.

1105. Please. Let's box again. You can box. I

1106. will have no gloves. I'll put my hands

1107. behind my back. I just wanna a box.

1108. Because I love them play around, you know

1109. So that it starts throwing... I'm just going

1110. like this, you know? Having a good time

1111. as the older brother. It's poor a little

1112. brother Tom, you know? And then

1113. I start laughing so hard because he couldn't

1114. hit me at first. And you know when

1115. you laugh and you're laughing really hard to

  1116. get really weak.

1117. Like, you're laughing and you lose all your

  1118. strength. I start laughing A I can't move

1119. now. And then he starts p me. He

1120. knocks me into the closet on a bunch

  1121. of clothes. You know

  1122. And I thought, wow,

1123. I would have John or James,

1124. you know, and The younger brother of Jesus,

1125. if this is the James wrote it.

1126. Felt about Jesus being the older brother.

1127. But then now, if this is that James,

1128. referring to him as the Lord.

1129. The Lord Jesus Christ. That's a big deal.

1130. And look at the humility, whether it was

1131. apostle James or James brother Lord. Look at

1132. the humility, a bond servant, James a bond

1133. servant of God in the Lord Jesus Christ.

1134. That's incredible humility you guys.

1135. In fact, James could have identified himself if

1136. was the apostle, James the apostle.

1137. The brother of John, who wrote the book

1138. revelation, the Gospel of John first second the

1139. third, John. Well, it was earlier than those

1140. books. So he probably wouldn't said that, but

1141. he said he's could've said the son of

1142. Thunder which Jesus named him. You know. Right?

1143. Or if it was James, the brother of

1144. Jesus, he could've have said, James, the brother

1145. of Jesus, the brother of the creator of

  1146. the universe. You know.

1147. But he's so humble, you know?

1148. And that's a big part of Christianity energy

1149. said you cannot be a Christian

1150. unless you're converted and become like a child.

  1151. Amen.

  1152. And James

1153. identifies himself here as a bond servant of

1154. god and of the Lord Jesus Christ. And

  1155. I love the humility

  1156. that he has here.

  1157. Now,

  1158. the word,

1159. branch of it there in the Greek is

  1160. 1 word Du las.

  1161. Du las.

1162. And Du los, we are servants. We're creating

  1163. the universe.

1164. And we should consider a privilege to be

1165. a servant of the most high God. Amen.

1166. Because everyone is Bob Dylan used to sing

  1167. is gonna serve somebody

1168. you're gonna serve the devil. You're gonna serve

1169. the lord. You're gonna serve somebody.

1170. Okay? The doo loss is use 127

1171. times this greek word. In the new testament.

  1172. And

  1173. it's translated slave,

  1174. a servant,

  1175. bond servant,

1176. hundred and 27 times, in the new testament.

1177. And you what do you you think about

  1178. a do loss?

1179. You know how many rights

1180. how many rights a du loss had? Guess

1181. how many rights he had

  1182. 0, none, not a z.

  1183. No rights.

1184. In fact, to do us,

  1185. his

1186. existence was for serving his master.

1187. And here we see James calls Jesus,

  1188. What?

  1189. Lord?

  1190. His Lord. K?

1191. Now, keep in mind, I've shared this with

1192. you before, and I think it's so important.

1193. Because the new testament, when you became a

1194. Christian new testament, when him when you came

1195. to belief and faith in christ. It wasn't

1196. just a man Pam mental ascent. It meant

1197. you were trusting Jesus Christ says your Lord,

1198. you were declared him as your Lord and

1199. savior, and that was a big deal because

1200. who was Lord in the Roman empire, according

1201. to the Romans, Caesar, and and they would

1202. have no lord. That was a chance sometimes

1203. bad even by the Jews. We have no

  1204. lord, but Caesar.

1205. So it was considered s judicious,

  1206. treason,

1207. to call Jesus, your lord, especially for a

  1208. jew,

1209. a jew in a row with empire.

1210. Okay. This is very, very important that we

  1211. get this because

1212. the early Christians when you see them identify

1213. Jesus as their master as the lord.

1214. And as we're studying first, Timothy, we've only

1215. got a few weeks left in first, Timothy

  1216. chapter 6, Paul's talking about how

1217. Timothy, you've made this great confession.

1218. And he gave the example of Jesus who

1219. made a confession before po pilot. And jesus

1220. made the confession that he is king he

1221. is Lord before po pi. Goes you're doing

1222. the same. And then he says to... And

1223. he's talking about the Lord God he says

1224. to Jesus and he says that to the

1225. only sovereign. The only sovereign

  1226. that was considered treason.

1227. These new testament writers were considered treason in

1228. Roman Empire, and many times they were burned

1229. many different emperors depending on where the empire

1230. emperor worship was the greatest Roman empire and

1231. what time in history. Chris wife often put

1232. the death because they refused to call Caesar

1233. of the Lord. They call Jesus of Lord.

1234. And that's very more important to understand.

1235. Because when you look at this

1236. whole reality that Jesus is Lord,

  1237. you see

  1238. that

  1239. 1 day, that's gonna happen to believers. It's

1240. happened to believers all over the world at

  1241. times.

1242. But when the mark of the beast comes

1243. out, and you don't take his name or

1244. the number of his name on your right

1245. handed or forehead because you're saying he's not

  1246. my Lord.

1247. It's gonna cost millions of Christians their heads.

1248. And you have to ask a question right

  1249. now.

1250. Because that may not even happen in your

1251. lifetime, but guess what could happen in your

1252. lifetime to depending and where you're hearing right

1253. now, what country you're in?

1254. If you call Jesus Lord of All in

1255. islamic an islamic nation that's really strong in

1256. Islam, that's considered s judicious as well. We

1257. have to right now make sure Jesus our

1258. Lord. And right now, your life isn't on

  1259. the line

1260. because you can't lose your head in the

1261. United States typically for Declaring jesus Lord. But

1262. guess what is on the line. Your very

1263. soul is on the line.

1264. Because if you do not, have jesus as

  1265. your Lord, You're lost.

1266. Jesus said you cannot serve 2 masters.

1267. You'll hate the 1 or love the other.

1268. You can't serve both God and money, you

1269. can't serve God and Satan. You have to

1270. make sure that Jesus is first in your

1271. life. And I'd love it because

1272. James is a straight shooter.

1273. James does not sugar coat things.

1274. And what's incredible to me about James is

  1275. There's a hundred and 8 versus in the

  1276. book of James.

  1277. 59

  1278. imperatives.

1279. Imperative is the mood of command. There's 59

1280. commands in the book of James. This little

  1281. book

  1282. 59

1283. commands in the book of James.

1284. Now, it's interesting to me

  1285. that when you consider

  1286. this reality.

1287. Paul says in first Corinthians 11 1 be

1288. I tit of me just as I also

  1289. am of Christ.

1290. But it was considered... We follow Paul because

1291. he follows Jesus as the Lord. He identifies

1292. himself as a servant. But you know what?

  1293. Being a servant

1294. was a good thing if you were servant

  1295. for a good master.

1296. And it was an elevated position if your

1297. master was elevated that you were associated with

1298. him. If you were 1 a Caesar servants

  1299. in his palace,

1300. you had... You could have even great... There

1301. was... There was great privilege in that. When

  1302. I just did a message on slavery a

1303. few weeks ago on a Wednesday night. And

1304. I pointed out 1 of the richest people

1305. in the Empire was a a servant

  1306. of Caesars.

1307. Well, guess what? We're not service of seizures,

1308. man. We're servants of Jesus.

1309. Okay? We're not servants of Joe Biden.

  1310. Amen?

  1311. Okay.

  1312. He's

  1313. well,

1314. I love who called servants, numbers chapter 27

    Numbers 27 chapter mention

1315. or chapter 12 or 7. God says my

  1316. servant Moses.

  1317. Hebrews 03:13 5 says Moses was... Or 3

    Hebrews 3:13

1318. 5 says, Moses was a faithful servant

1319. as A servant in got all of God's

1320. house. In first Samuel 3 9, Samuel says

1321. speak lord for your servant hears. Caleb, Joshua

1322. King David, Solomon, Elijah, Hannah, Mary, Jonah, Isaiah.

1323. Paul, James Peter Jude, John.

  1324. All identified as servants.

1325. You know the greatest servant of All,

  1326. Jesus.

1327. He's called the suffering servant in the old

  1328. testament.

1329. In Isaiah 52 and 53 in other passages.

  1330. He's God,

1331. but he's the most awesome of the servants

1332. because God became a servant.

1333. In fact, look at philippians

    Philippians 3 chapter mention

  1334. chapter 3 or chapter 2 verse 3.

  1335. Philippians is chapter 2 verse 3.

    Isaiah 2:3

1336. We read this. Paul rex. Don't be selfish.

  1337. K?

1338. Don't try to impress others.

  1339. Be humble.

1340. Thinking of others as better than yourselves.

1341. Don't look out for only your own interest

  1342. That's hard to do.

1343. Our humans were filled with flesh. We gotta

1344. deny flash. Don't look out for not only

1345. your own interests, but take an interest in

  1346. what.

  1347. Others too.

1348. You must have the same attitude that Christ

1349. Jesus had. So if your your flesh sq

1350. when you hear the word servant.

  1351. I don't wanna be a servant. I wanna

  1352. live like a king. I want everything. I

1353. wanna be all about me myself and I.

1354. But you know what? Don't let that happen,

1355. man. The best example the 1 who

  1356. denied,

  1357. all his privileges

1358. help others when they were in need is

1359. our Lord Jesus Christ. It says goes on

1360. to say, though he was God, though he

1361. was god, then Iv existed in the very

1362. as the nate in the nature of God.

1363. King James the form of God. Though he

1364. was God, he did not think of equality

1365. with God as something to cling to.

1366. Could've just stayed up there and having being

1367. worship by all the angels, but he didn't

1368. cling to that. Instead, he gave up his

1369. divine privileges. He didn't stop being god. He

1370. just gave up the divine privilege as he

1371. had as he's being worship in heaven. And

1372. he took the humble position as a what.

1373. Slave. The Greek word is do loss, the

  1374. same

1375. word that shoes that James identifies himself as

1376. because he's a slave of God who became

  1377. a slave himself.

1378. And he was born as a human being.

1379. When he appeared in human form, he humbled

1380. himself in obedience to God and died a

  1381. what,

1382. criminals death on a cross. Therefore god elevated

1383. him to the place of highest honor and

1384. gave him a name above all other names

1385. that the name of Jesus, every knee should

1386. bow in heaven and on earth and under

1387. the earth. And every tongue to clear that

  1388. Jesus Christ is what.

1389. Lord, to glory to the glory of God,

1390. the father. I love that because

1391. He became god became a man, and I

1392. tell you often, that's like you becoming a

  1393. cockroach

  1394. to save the cockroaches.

1395. You say no. That's a bigger step down

  1396. to become a cockroach On I'm a human

  1397. being. No. It's a lesser step down. I

1398. always say that. Because a cockroaches is another

  1399. creature. We're just creatures.

1400. Amen This is the un creator of all

  1401. things.

1402. Becoming part of his creation

  1403. as the God man.

1404. Think about that, man. That just blows me

1405. away. What an awesome God. And you know

1406. what? He for so his privileges,

1407. not cease and be God. Still God. But

1408. how himself became a man and died a

1409. horrible death of the cross. They just become

  1410. a du loss, a servant,

1411. but he suffered a death on the cross

1412. pain for our sins guys.

1413. So we could elevate us.

1414. So we could become what.

1415. Children of God. We're not just servants. He

  1416. says, I call you in John 15. I

  1417. call you friends. Amen.

1418. And then in John 01:12 as men has

    John 1:12

1419. received him he gave the right to become

1420. the children of God. And now we can

1421. call our father Ab father. And come to

1422. him in the name of the Lord Jesus

1423. Christ. What I blessed, wonderful, privilege that is.

1424. So, man, what an awesome thing like Moses,

1425. you're a servant of the lord. Right? Like,

1426. Elijah, you're a servant of the lord. Like

1427. the apostles your servants, the lord. It's a

1428. privilege to be the servant of the Lord.

1429. And this is what blows me away

  1430. about this text

1431. that I thinks quite quite fascinating

1432. is literally in the Greek.

1433. You read the literal Greek in James 1

1434. 1, it can be translated,

1435. g James, a bonds of God, the Lord

  1436. Jesus Christ.

1437. As though Jesus is being called God there.

1438. Grammatically, it can go either way. Most translators

1439. translate is always speaking to the son and

1440. the father there. I'm okay with that I

1441. can see it going either way. But guess

1442. what? Is still incapable that Jesus being referred

1443. to as God and James 1 1 why?

1444. Because James is a bond of God and

  1445. of the

  1446. Lord. Jesus Christ. Amen.

1447. What's Lord of the Greek do you remember?

1448. It's the common word used for Lord in

  1449. the new testament. Curry.

  1450. KURI0S.

1451. Curiosity is a name that's given throughout the

1452. old testament. When the old testament is talking

  1453. about God, Y.

1454. El. Guess how the sep, the Lx x,

1455. the translation that the lord Jesus Christ used

1456. over and over again. Guess how they often

1457. or it's typically translated Y, which is God.

  1458. Carry.

1459. So if you're reading Jesus day about Y

1460. the old testament in the Greek, which is

1461. a common language among the those that were

1462. living in Israel on those days, Roman empire.

1463. You'd be reading Curiosity, Curiosity, Curiosity, Cr that's

1464. what I'm saying is a big deal for

1465. Jesus to be called. What? Carr.

1466. You're calling him lord. You're call him God.

  1467. Amen?

1468. In fact, look at Philippians chapter 2 versus

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

1469. 10 and 11 on this slide. And look

  1470. what it says here.

1471. At the name of Jesus every knee should

1472. bow, in heaven and on earth and under

1473. earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ

1474. Lord to the glory of God the father.

  1475. Amen.

1476. Is gonna bow. You know that's taken from

  1477. Isaiah, chapter 45.

    Isaiah 45 chapter mention

1478. And you know who who's referring to in

  1479. Isaiah 45.

1480. When is gonna bow and every time gonna

  1481. confess.

1482. Let's go to the next passage. Look at

  1483. it.

1484. Turn to me and be saved all the

1485. ends of the earth for I am what.

1486. I am God and there is no other.

1487. Whoever saying what they're saying here is saying

1488. he's the only god there's no weather.

1489. I have sworn by myself. The word has

1490. gone forth from my mouth and righteousness

1491. and I will not turn back that to

1492. me, every knee bow and every time we'll

  1493. swear allegiance.

  1494. Wow,

1495. They will say of me only the Lord

1496. Y way. By the way,

  1497. our righteousness and strength

1498. curiosity in the except too.

1499. And here we see well Flipping has already

1500. says, even though he was in the very

1501. form of God, he became a man. I

1502. says his god. But then it says every

1503. knee about every time it fence. If apostle

1504. Paul knows very well that Isaiah, that that

1505. this the reference to Y, and every is

1506. gonna bow to him. And he applies to

1507. Jesus. Make no mistake. Jesus is God. And

1508. when a Drove when it comes to your

1509. door, go ahead and share philippians chapter 2

    Philippians 2 chapter mention

1510. with him, and I isaiah chapter 45. Amen.

    Isaiah 45 chapter mention

1511. Because they deny that Jesus god, I think

1512. some of the most powerful evidence is of

1513. Jesus being God is the quotations of the

1514. old testament about Y that applied to Jesus

1515. in the new testament. Like in the old

  1516. testament

1517. year my witness say Lord to My servant

1518. who Have chosen before me, There's no god

1519. formed me neither shall be after me. No.

1520. It's only 1 God form. So how can

1521. Jesus have been in the form of god?

1522. If there was another God.

  1523. And Isaiah,

1524. I am the first last,

  1525. beside, there's no god, Isaiah 44 6.

  1526. Revelation chapter 19 or chapter 01:18

    Revelation 19 chapter mention

1527. through 20 there, Jesus says, I... Am he

1528. that was dead, but I'm my alive for

1529. more, I have the keys that the hell

1530. of death Am says, I am the first

1531. and the last. Hey, amen??

1532. He is God. Make no mistake about it.

1533. Why do I emphasize that point? Because when

1534. we're talking about me servants, We're talking my

1535. servants of God the created of the universe.

1536. Amen. We're not talking about serving Joe Biden

1537. Donald Trump. Amen. We're not serving the Lord

1538. Jesus Christ. He is our god. Amen.

1539. We serve God the father. We serve God

1540. the son, and we serve the father of

1541. the son by the power of God, the

  1542. holy spirit amen.

1543. And let us get excited. Man, these all

1544. these people in the truck Goes. Yeah

1545. We should be fireworks more excited about Jesus.

1546. Trump took a bullet in the year. You

1547. know, 1 on 3 levels are saying that

1548. that didn't happen. It's all fake. Michael they

1549. sound like 1 and 3 conservative sometimes another

1550. issue issues I'm sorry. You know, just... I'm

1551. like, well, the world, you know?

  1552. He took a bullet

  1553. in the ear.

1554. That's pretty cool. He stood up. Fight fight

1555. fight. My god took thorn, took nails took

  1556. just totally obliterated.

1557. Rose on the third day conquered to grave

1558. and he is our god. Amen. And people

1559. are getting excited about that. How much works

1560. excited should we get about the Lord Jesus

  1561. Christ. Amen.

1562. What awesome God we have.

  1563. I'm glad I'm splitting my message 2. I'm

1564. looking at that clock I'm like, no way.

  1565. It's gone already.

1566. But I wanna encourage you right now.

  1567. You cannot.

1568. Receive the messages this letter, and the 59

1569. commands about how to walk with the Lord

1570. and be the Christian he's calling to be

1571. a servant of the most high God.

  1572. Unless you

1573. have become a servant of the most high

  1574. God.

1575. And I'm not talking Playing church

1576. I'm talking about being serious before the Lord.

  1577. Amen.

  1578. I'm talking about

1579. recognizing that when you're servant, That means if

1580. he says go to this land to be

  1581. a missionary,

1582. are you willing to do that

1583. for the rest of your life. If he

1584. says, for sake all your possessions and go

1585. live poor among the poor at being evangelist

1586. over here or share the gospel there? Are

1587. you willing to do that? If your answers

  1588. are no,

1589. You're not serving Jesus as your Lord.

1590. And Jesus says why do you call me

1591. Lord Lord and not obey the things I

  1592. say. Amen.

1593. If he says, hey, I don't want you

1594. to get drunk, which he says in his

1595. word Don't be drunk with wine, but phil

1596. the spirit. And he refused to obey him

1597. Is he really your Lord? Are you really

  1598. a servant?

1599. If he says not to be involved in

1600. pharma illicit drugs, but you're still doing meth

1601. and or heroin or, you know,

1602. Fentanyl all or, you know, smoking pot getting

1603. the stoned in La la land and not

1604. sober because if I what command you be

1605. sober, that's not sober. Are you really following

1606. as your Lord? You're really a servant?

1607. If you're married and you're not laying your

1608. life down for your wife,

1609. but you're living for yourself

  1610. and your flesh.

1611. And you're not seeking to be patient with

1612. her and love her or vice versa,

1613. not loving your husband. Are you really being

1614. a servant if you're rejecting what Jesus said?

  1615. Hey, amen?

1616. If you're parent and you're not be the

1617. best example that you could beat to your

1618. children trying to bring them up in the

1619. nurture and admission the Lord? Are you really

  1620. a servant of Jesus?

1621. He said you can't serve 2 masters. You

  1622. can't serve your flesh.

1623. You can't serve the devil.

1624. You have to serve Jesus.

1625. So I encourage you right now, make sure

1626. you know the Lord Jesus Christ. And by

1627. the way, you can have a heart to

1628. do these things. But if you're sitting here,

  1629. you're not born again,

1630. you're gonna be just falling flat on your

  1631. face

  1632. because you cannot

1633. obey his moral law, the law of Christ

1634. unless you're empowered by the holy spirit. And

1635. you can't be empowered by the holy spirit.

1636. If you're just trying to follow rules because

1637. you wanna be a good, but you're not

  1638. truly born again.

1639. Jesus said you must be born again to

1640. enter the king of God, amen. That means

1641. you must recognize that your sinner that's under

  1642. condemnation.

1643. And that Jesus bore, the penalty of your

1644. sin, your condemnation on the cross and died

  1645. in your place.

1646. And when he died in the cross, he

1647. took the weight the wrath that you deserved

1648. upon himself so that you would be able

  1649. to be pardoned.

1650. And Jesus says whoever calls God's word says

1651. Paul says Romans chapter. 10. Whoever calls upon

1652. the name of Lord, Shelby be saved amen.

1653. So make sure as we get in the

1654. book of James. Don't, yeah I wanna give

1655. me James, but I'm not really sold out

  1656. I'm really following Jesus.

1657. Being born again. Well, you're not gonna have

1658. the power to obey what he said? And

1659. you're still gonna be obedient to the flesh

1660. the world. The devil and subjected to hell

1661. and sin and final judgment.

1662. He sets us free pi love and death.

  1663. By

1664. his precious blood that was shed in the

1665. cross. Jesus said that the sunset you free,

1666. you shall be free indeed, a, amen? Amen.

1667. And you shall know the truth and the

1668. truth shall set you free. The irony is

1669. that when we're servants to the Lord were

1670. set free from all these wicked things, man.

1671. But we say, no, I don't wanna be

  1672. a servant, you're a servant of sin.

  1673. Of death

1674. of the flesh of the world of Satan

1675. of hell. Jesus sets it's free from all

1676. that, Amen. So make sure you choose Jesus

1677. as your lord and savior. So you can

1678. be obedient to what's called the law of

1679. Christ or James calls the royal law. Or

1680. the law of liberty. It's not the mosaic

1681. glass lot of liberty. It's worth set free

1682. by his truth, which sets us free to

1683. walk in obedience and it righteousness on the

1684. straight narrow path at least the life. Amen.

1685. Make sure you make that decision to turn

1686. Jesus as if you have not, and embrace

1687. him as your lord to savior now, and

1688. you'll pass from death, to eternal life. Amen.

1689. Are you guys excited about James?

1690. Praise guy. Let us all stand. Give him

1691. glory Amen, we love you Lord. We praise

1692. you for your word. We praise you for

1693. your great goodness. We praise you for your

1694. great love. We love you Lord Jesus. Hallelujah.
