  14. Double-edged sword. A Christian podcast Ministry

  15. presented by father, jonard Lazar father.

  16. Jernard is a parish priest of the mud edit Parish of the

  17. Assyrian Church of the East and Turlock California.

  18. Here's father jernard in our last episode.

  19. Last week we spoke about the benefits of Temptations and we

  20. touched upon a few verses and we ascertained that the temperature

  21. or Temptations. Come from Satan.

  22. As we read in Matthew 4:3 and the tempter came and said to

    Matthew 4:3

  23. him. If you are the Son of God,

  24. command these stones to become bread.

  25. And we were again warned by Saint Peter.

  26. In his first epistle, 5:8 be sober and guarded because Satan,

  27. your adversary like a lion roars and goes about and seeks whom he

  28. may devour. And why does he tempt us?

  29. We learned that because of our desires, James 1:14, but every

    James 1:14

  30. man is tempted by his own lust. And he covets, and he's drawn

  31. away today, I'd like to speak about the progression of

  32. Temptations. Where does it begin?

  33. And what do we do at every stage?

  34. Well, firstly Begins, by let's call it, baiting enticing, or

  35. inciting seducing suggestion. Suggesting.

  36. And when this happens when Satan begins to entice, it eventually

  37. will snowball into a passion, a burning desire.

  38. Approval and conceding. Now there is no sin here because

  39. as we said last week, Jesus was tempted yet, he battled, he

  40. battle, Temptation through scripture with scripture, that's

  41. why the church fathers and the church recommends that all her

  42. children, know, the Psalms off by heart and in particular, the

  43. acolyte the deacons, the priest. So that when Temptations come we

  44. to battle with With scripture and the Psalms being the prayer

  45. booklet of the church. But let's not take enticement.

  46. Likely beloved, this is where we need to nip it in the butt.

  47. Change the channel. Don't even watch when you're

  48. aware of the ratings. Don't say well, I'm going to

  49. fast forward those scenes, but I'm interested in this film,

  50. turn off the computer is some of you are probably saying maybe

  51. chuckling and you know thinking well what land is this priest

  52. coming from La La Land? As they say well no if you if

  53. you take it serious, these are the Extreme Measures.

  54. We need to take. Don't listen to that song.

  55. Don't click on play on that Tik Tok.

  56. Post, when you see the thumbnail is inappropriate.

  57. Seek Jesus Christ. You know, this is from the

  58. get-go. Do the sign of the cross.

  59. This is what the demons hate Temptations.

  60. Come from demons. People who are angels of Satan

  61. do the sign of the cross cry out to Jesus Christ.

  62. Oh Lord absolve. The sins and transgressions of

  63. your servant singer him. It clan he we be your Maria.

  64. You know it's we have hope in You O Lord our savior Cry out to

  65. the name of the Lord, shim adalah.

  66. You know why our forefathers or our parents today.

  67. Each time they perform an act of maybe there's danger involved

  68. and you know, they've been very very precocious when they would

  69. switch on a light so that the darkness would be illuminated.

  70. They would say, shimmered Allah so that if there is any demonic

  71. positions, they will flee in the name of God.

  72. Why do I say this? Well, I don't say it.

  73. Saint Paul writes that in Ephesians 5:19, but speak to

    Ephesians 5:19

  74. yourselves in Psalms and hymns and song of the spirit spiritual

  75. songs, be singing in your heart, to the Lord God.

  76. Why? So that we, when are being

  77. tempted, can overcome and stand firm, even in that Temptation

  78. because we learned that Temptations.

  79. God allows for a perfect reason. Why the simple right?

  80. That will he goes on to say in Philippians chapter 5 verse 8 to

  81. 9, therefore my brethren, those things that are true, those

  82. things that are honorable, those things that are righteous, those

  83. things that are pure, those things that are precious, those

  84. things that are praiseworthy Deeds of glory, and of, Praise

  85. meditate on these things. The things that you have learned

  86. and received and heard and seen. Buy me.

  87. Wow, Paul is talking about Deeds here seen by me.

  88. It would do things. His deeds were good because they

  89. were God's Deeds. Do is the do these things.

  90. And the God of Peace shall be with you.

  91. So when you're singing constant, Psalms and praising, Jesus

  92. constantly and, and calling out to the name of our heavenly

  93. father, and doing the sign of the cross and attending church,

  94. That's the one way of nipping, The Temptations or the

  95. progressions of The Temptations in the butt.

  96. When you do that, beloved your you're changing, the the realm',

  97. the environment of your mind and your heart, you know you see

  98. some people slap themselves when they want to wake themselves up

  99. while they're driving. Some people say, well, pinch

  100. yourself so that you wake up when you're drowsy and you're

  101. driving. No, you should just go and have

  102. a rest by the way, right? Well, this is what you do.

  103. When you switch off, when you totally flee.

  104. You totally walk away. You're walking away to rest from

  105. that evil ring that you were almost about to enter the gates

  106. of sin. But you have walked away, you

  107. know, playing music with the with the f-bombs and sexual

  108. stimulant stimulants for your celebrations, or your Gatherings

  109. or just blasting it in your car doesn't help.

  110. You know, it it boggles my mind that a Christian would sit in

  111. the car, touch the cross that is hanging on the rearview mirror,

  112. do the sign of the cross. And I start playing music that

  113. are evil. And filthy with the effort,

  114. every second word is an effort, how can that be that's

  115. hypocrisy. Please take away that cross from

  116. Erica. Don't do the sign of the cross.

  117. Hide everything. There is a religious because I'd

  118. rather people not see the cross there and you You know, blasting

  119. the F music and for people to look at all those are that's

  120. that's Christianity. Well great, that's not

  121. Christianity beloved, that's evil, having belly dancers.

  122. Perform at your celebrations, is certainly harming and dangerous.

  123. So if we don't take action from the get-go, we then take

  124. ourselves in the next step after the baiting.

  125. And the inciting of the that, you know, Satan and his demons

  126. comes the commotion, you know? Your mind has been already

  127. stirred. There is a, an inkling of a, an

  128. attraction to Temptation at that moment.

  129. And there is an opportunity to continue to pursue because Satan

  130. has found that weakness. Satan has found that desire,

  131. Satan has found his Target and he's now again shooting those

  132. flaming arrow arrows Shooting him at our weaknesses, our

  133. justification, everyone. Does it.

  134. God knows my weakness. God is merciful.

  135. He's a righteous God. He's a righteous judge, beloved.

  136. I'm not sinning against others. You know?

  137. Just this one time. I'll just let it go this one

  138. time. And here Satan even works harder

  139. to do one thing to discourage to bring you down to to put you in

  140. that understanding or that that corner where you say, well, I'm

  141. not worthy anymore. How am I going to go back to God

  142. with these bad thoughts? But remember there is still no

  143. sin, bad thoughts. I'm not the the reason for being

  144. a bad person, doesn't make you a bad person.

  145. But we can choose to either walk away or to entertain these

  146. thoughts. How do we walk away again?

  147. If you've been careless in the first step and you've reached

  148. this second point and you are now alert and you feel your

  149. conscience is is hammering. You cry out to the Lord.

  150. Again, Place yourself at the feet of the cross.

  151. Our Lord hearing his cry to his father.

  152. Forgive them for they do not know what they're doing.

  153. Father, he or she were careless. They didn't nip it in the bud.

  154. They're a little bit careless. They thought they can take it on

  155. but right now they are Fallen at my cross.

  156. Father, forgive them for, they do not know what they're doing,

  157. what they're doing. That's why some Paul instructs

  158. in his letter to the Colossians 3:2, think of things on high,

    Colossians 3:2

  159. not of the things on earth or set your mind on the things that

  160. are above y. So that we do not steer

  161. ourselves toward the evil. Thought, because if we do the

  162. next step of Temptation, Is called.

  163. Conforming or connecting or joining?

  164. The idea begins to stimulate our desires, our weaknesses even

  165. more pushing us on the path of sin.

  166. Entering us even further into the gate of sin, say, until this

  167. point, there was no sin. There was no blame for you to

  168. have been, you know, enticed and feel for you to have been, you

  169. know, Disturbed. But now we're getting closer to

  170. that to that point where yes we don't have.

  171. Just to figure. There's no reason we weren't to

  172. be blamed for enticement and commotion cause but this is

  173. where we start to get into the range where you're thinking now.

  174. Oh yeah, you know let me show this body to the whole world.

  175. Let me get those likes in those. Sexy body girl and those

  176. comments on my post oh wow. What a body, what a cute butt,

  177. right? And I speak like this so don't

  178. be surprised. Don't turn off your where, if

  179. you're listening to you're going to hear a lot of this.

  180. I call a spade a spade and I'm not afraid of anyone.

  181. And I could have one person listening to this.

  182. I still praise the Lord God, because Jesus was hated and

  183. murdered for the truth. Not because he spoke love for

  184. the truth. So I'll The truth, you know, the

  185. the dollar signs behind the likes and the views, you know,

  186. let me show my shame to the world and if I get a million

  187. likes I start getting money right enjoying that that short

  188. period of stimulation and passion, satisfying, this is

  189. where it begins. This is where there is an

  190. intention behind our enticement and commotions by Temptations.

  191. Jesus said, sit, straight Matthew 5:28.

    Matthew 5:28

  192. But I am saying to everyone. Who looks at a woman, has not

  193. sinned. Looking at a woman or looking at

  194. a man is not a sin, but looking at a woman or a man.

  195. So, as to lust for him and her immediately commits adultery

  196. with her, or him in his heart, you know, it's like when Jesus

  197. says, If you do your charity to be seen by people, that means

  198. you want people to see you. You want people to applaud you,

  199. you want people to bet you. Pat?

  200. You on the back you want people to recognize and acknowledge.

  201. What you've done. If you do your charitable Deeds

  202. with that intention or they're not accepted by cross, you've

  203. already received your reward. But it's still not too late to

  204. engage. To disengage, I'm sorry to

  205. engage forcefully in the battle and putting on the armor of God.

  206. This is where we need that armor constantly Ephesians 6:10 to 17,

    Ephesians 6:10–17

  207. therefore my brethren be strengthened in our Lord and in

  208. the force of his power. And I'm going to tell you how we

  209. can do this and put on all the armor of God, so that you can

  210. stand against the strategies of the devil because your fight has

  211. not been with flesh and blood. But with principalities and the

  212. rulers and the powers of this dark world, and with Wicked

  213. Spirits, which are under Heaven because of this, put on all the

  214. armor of God, that you shall be able to confront the evil one.

  215. And when you are ready in all things, you shall stand stand.

  216. Therefore, and good. Your waist with the truth who is

  217. Jesus Christ and put on the breastplate of righteousness. -

  218. through Jesus Christ and shushu your feet or put on shoes, on

  219. your feet with a Readiness of the gospel of peace, which is

  220. Jesus Christ. And with these take to you the

  221. shield of faith in Jesus Christ, that with it, you have the power

  222. of Jesus Christ to quench. All of the Blazing bolts of the

  223. evil one. By the way, I was adding the

  224. name of out, the precious name of Jesus Christ.

  225. Put on the helmet. Of Salvation through Jesus

  226. Christ and grasp the sword of the spirit which is the word of

  227. God himself. Jesus Christ, praise and glory

  228. to his name or the written word, the gospel which is Jesus

  229. Christ. So if we neglect and take this

  230. for granted, we are hate with the final stage of the

  231. Temptation, which is the drooling, the desire, the

  232. hunger, the passion to submit sin becomes the norm.

  233. You are pruned to it and become obsessed by the act of that.

  234. Particular sin though. Extremely difficult to remove

  235. yes. And I will say this, but the

  236. father's say, and write and encourage that we must

  237. absolutely devout ourselves to removing it.

  238. We must absolutely devout ourselves to getting rid of this

  239. evil demon. Whatever it may be, sexual

  240. desires, gossip, hatred Pride, Envy extortion, Paul writes.

  241. All these, you have desires, like zaccheus Zacharias was the

  242. chief tax collector. Beloved And being a chief tax

  243. collector means that he had other Tax Collectors under his

  244. authority. So what he would do it, he would

  245. take his that he would take tax from the Jewish people, very

  246. simply put, give it to the room and governments but he would

  247. defraud people. Meaning if the person was to pay

  248. 20%, he would take 30% and keep 10% for himself and yet.

  249. Still get paid he would probably make Money from his agents as

  250. well. Chief tax collector.

  251. And yet. when he came to Jesus Christ, when he had heard Jesus

  252. Christ, when he was seeking, Jesus Christ, looked for this

  253. Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ, entered into his house, his

  254. heart, his mind his life, he changed his life 180 degrees

  255. Gave half of his wealth to poor people and returned four times

  256. to those that He defrauded. So we can absolutely make every

  257. effort fight, every battle to rid ourselves from the sin that

  258. we have caused ourselves to being because of our evil

  259. desires, our carelessness and our foolishness.

  260. So what do we do? Beloved?

  261. Well from the get-go, don't lead yourself into the first step of

  262. Temptation. When you feel it, when you know

  263. that the enemy is trying to, you know, shackle you and put you in

  264. bonds, get rid of it, nip it in the butt.

  265. As I said, turn off the computer, turn off the or change

  266. the channel switch the radio channel or or, you know, turn

  267. off that song. Flee from every evil matter st.

  268. Paul instructs to the Thessalonians.

  269. In his first epistle 5:22 have nothing to do with it, Ephesians

    Ephesians 5:11

  270. 5:11 and you and have no association with the works of

  271. darkness which are unfruitful, but reprove them.

  272. How can we claim that? I am a God-fearing god-loving

  273. Christian and I've been invited or I, you know, I have been

  274. called to join an association, not an association or to, you

  275. know, to attend a gathering where I know that there is going

  276. to be evil. I know that there is going to

  277. be, you know, deeds and and temptations that are And to be

  278. totally against God's appeasing and God's perfect will flee from

  279. that. That's what the scriptures are

  280. telling us submit to God. James, 4:7 subject yourselves,

  281. therefore, to God and stand firm against Satan and he will flee

  282. from you don't hang around evil people, avoid Bad Company, 1,

  283. Corinthians, 15:33, evil Communications, meaning gossip.

  284. Cussing, lies corrupt, good manners, beloved, we will be

  285. corrupted. We have a fallen nature,

  286. remember that? We have a fallen nature.

  287. We have free will in our baptism.

  288. The punishment of the first sin is washed away.

  289. From us is wearing his paid by Jesus blood, but our Free Will

  290. is not washed away. Satan wasn't completely

  291. destroyed. Upon the cross through Jesus

  292. sacrifice sacrifice know, Satan is still roaming the world.

  293. Our Free Will is still within us.

  294. And we Fallen nature, we can still continue to sin.

  295. Why put ourselves in those situations.

  296. Come to church, come to church to give, thanks to God, come to

  297. church as zaccheus seek Jesus Christ.

  298. When we come to church, we come to give.

  299. Thanks to the Lord because we are all blind.

  300. When we come to church, we come to change our lives.

  301. We want Jesus to change as because we're all zaccheus has,

  302. when we come to church, we want to be given that site of the

  303. truth and Holiness because we're all blind.

  304. We're all Mary magdalene's, we are all Matthew the tax

  305. collector, we are all that Pharisee that has so much pride

  306. in himself. When he prayed, beloved come to

  307. church to Humble ourselves before the feet of our heavenly

  308. father, and to partake in the all sanctifying body and blood.

  309. The Holy Eucharist, the body and blood of our Lord.

  310. Jesus Christ. Don't come to church to attract

  311. someone to meet someone. We have a trend in the Assyrian

  312. community that when a mother wants her son to find himself a

  313. bride, she will encourage him to go to church and check out the

  314. choir group because they mainly mainly female, no, you don't

  315. come to church to find someone to get married to.

  316. You don't come to church to seduce someone.

  317. You don't come to church to impress.

  318. Anyone beloved, we come to church because we are so

  319. attacked by Satan and he's Demons that we want to throw

  320. ourselves at the merciful feet of our Lord and our Savior Jesus

  321. Christ, and ask for forgiveness and ask for strength and ask

  322. that if God you permit me to go through these Temptation deliver

  323. me from the evil one, don't come to church.

  324. For the wrong reasons because it will do nothing come to church

  325. for the right motive. Read the Holy scriptures with

  326. the right motive. Pray with a contrite heart and a

  327. right motive, fast with a contrite heart and a right

  328. motive. Give arms to the needy with a

  329. contrite heart and the right motives. so that our heavenly

  330. father who sees in secret will reward in public, let us pray

  331. continuously beloved Lord do not lead us into temptation but

  332. Deliver Us from the evil one. Let us beseech his gracious,

  333. loving kindness, and mercy. And pray and beseech that Lord.

  334. Make me worthy to abide in you and you abide in me.

  335. So that all that I Do. I Do For Your Glory now and at

  336. all times and forever and ever. Amen.
