I'm excited that you are here today. Thank you so much for coming.

You have spent your most valuable asset with us today, and thank you so much

for coming. Thank you for tuning in online.

We appreciate you being here, being a part of what God is doing here.

My name is Devon Alexander, and I have the honor of pastoring True Life Fellowship

Church, and I'm excited about the word that we will share together today.

Thank you for connecting with it and spending time with me.

Over the last several weeks we've

been talking about the names of God and how many have been

excited about this series the names of God come on yeah put

your hands together if you have been I've been really thrilled

about this series the names of God matter of fact Wayne came to me last week

and said man I'm learning so much in these names and Tenelle came to me and

said I haven't heard of some of these names and I think that's the purpose for

talking about the names of God because God reveals different aspects of himself

through the many names that he uses.

Each one with its unique meaning and power, offering us a deeper glimpse into his limitless nature.

And three reasons why we started this series is because we want God's nature

to be revealed and his character to be known.

We want to deepen our relationship with him, and we also want our prayer life

to be guided and our worship experience to be enhanced.

And so every name of God is like a perfect puzzle piece fitting exactly where we're broken,

filling what's missing and completing the picture of who we were created to be.

Just like you I have many

names that I go by right I've shared some with you in the past I'll share it

again my nickname as a kid was boo boo was my nickname and so until I was about

12 years old everybody called me boo and then when I got into middle school

my nickname became smiley,

And while I was in middle school playing football, one of the football coaches

gave me that nickname, Smiley.

And around town, I became known as Smiley. I didn't really like that nickname,

but nevertheless, I was known as Smiley.

They said because I smiled a lot, but so the joy of the Lord is our strength. Amen.

And then as I got going, my nickname became Devo.

And so I know where you met me when you say the name Devo.

I know how we met. I know where we met. And as we got going,

obviously, my government name is Devon, Pastor Devon, so on and so forth.

We all have various names that we go by that will distinguish the relationship

that we have with someone or even a time frame that we have with them.

Recently, I was sharing this message and Zage, my six-year-old,

was listening and she started calling me Smiley around the house. Hey, Smiley.

I just laughed. I just smiled. at least she's paying attention. Amen.

And so that's exciting. And so just like you and I, God has many names.

Matter of fact, Stacey said she went to a Jewish barista.

Is that right? There you go. Say it again.

Barmista. She went to a Jewish barmista and she said, as they were praying,

they were calling out the various names of God.

I thought that was so special. She would say, and as they would say,

El Shaddai, the mighty God, and Jehovah Shammah, God is here.

And they begin to call out his specific names. And I thought that's very special.

I believe we're supposed to do the same thing in our prayer life and in our

worship experience, call out his various names because it identifies who he

is and who we're calling upon in the time of need.

And so today we're going to talk about a new name. And let's start out in Matthew

Matthew 9 · chapter mention

chapter 9, meet me at verse 35, and we'll read through to verse 38,

Matthew 9, 35 through 38.

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages,

teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom,

and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

But somebody say, but when he saw the multitudes, watch this,

he was moved with compassion for them because they were weary and scattered

like sheep having no shepherd.

Verse 37, then he said to his disciples, the harvest truly is plentiful,

but the laborers are few.

Therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.

I want to back up to verse 36.

And verse 36 is a powerful verse because when he saw the multitudes,

Jesus saw the multitudes, scripture said he was moved with compassion.

He wasn't moved with sympathy.

Sympathy just simply means I feel bad.

Compassion means I'm going to do something about it. He was moved with compassion

because the people were weary, aimless, tired, helpless, and scattered.

And he said they were like sheep having no shepherd.

And what impacted me in this passage of Scripture was the problem is the people are aimless.

The people are helpless, scattered.

The people are tired, confused.

But the solution is also found in that passage of Scripture.

The solution is people need a shepherd.

Every person needs a shepherd. Somebody say shepherd. Say it again, shepherd.

People need a shepherd and the shepherd is the solution to being weary,

scattered, confused, aimless and helpless.

But then he said in the next passage, he said, pray to the Lord of the harvest

that he would send laborers into the harvest.

If everybody in Charlotte, all of the population in Charlotte were to show up

at church on the same day in our great city,

do you know that we don't have enough space in all of our buildings combined

to fit the entire population in a Sunday morning service?

That tells me that there should be prayer, that there will be more laborers.

And I believe, as I was setting this out, I believe what the Lord was saying

there is pray that there will be more shepherds.

Pray that there'll be more shepherds to take care of people.

Pray that people would have a shepherd's heart to care for their neighbors,

to care for those that are aimless and weak and suffering and confused and are helpless.

That there would be laborers, shepherds that would take care of people because

that is the solution to a weary heart.

That is the solution to confusion. that is the solution to waywardness,

is a shepherd. And I believe every person needs a shepherd.

One of the names that we're going to talk about today is the name Jehovah-Rohai.

Jehovah-Rohai. Say Jehovah-Rohai.

Now say it like you mean it. Jehovah-Rohai.

Jehovah-rohi is the name that means the Lord is my shepherd.

The Lord is my shepherd.

Notice this name does not mean the Lord is the shepherd.

This name does not mean the Lord is every Christian's shepherd.

This name means the Lord is my shepherd.

I don't know what he is to you, but to me, he's my shepherd.

The Lord is my shepherd. That word shepherd means the Lord is the lover of the flock.

He is the one that will lead, feed, and protect his people.

The Lord is my shepherd. So when we call on Jehovah Rohi, we're calling on the

shepherd who is my shepherd.

Not your shepherd. I don't know who your shepherd is. He's my shepherd.

And he's the one that's going to lead, feed, and protect. Your shepherd,

Jehovah Rohi, meets your spiritual, emotional, and physical needs.

Every need you have, your shepherd, Jehovah Rohi, will meet those needs.

His character is revealed as a personal, caring, and guiding shepherd who watches

over his people with love, protection, and provision.

Say, the Lord is my shepherd.

In John chapter 10 let's look at verse 11 and we're going to go through several

verses here in John 10 verse 11 Jesus says I am the good shepherd,

John 10:11

Jehovah Rohi I am the good shepherd the good shepherd watch this,

gives his life for the sheep let's look at verse 14.

John 10 and verse 14, he says again, I am the good shepherd and I know my sheep and am known by my own.

Let's look at verse 16.

And other sheep I have which are not of this fold, them also I must bring and

they will hear my voice and there will be one flock and one shepherd.

And let's look at verse 27.

My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me.

So in John chapter 10, and I encourage you to read the entire chapter of John

10, Jesus says, I am the good shepherd.

I am the one who will lead, feed, and protect you.

The shepherd knows each sheep by name, showing there's a real, genuine bond.

He knows each sheep by name. He knows your name.

I said the shepherd knows your name. He knows who you are. He sees you.

He knows when you were born. He knows why he placed you on the earth.

He knows exactly what you're thinking, how you feel, where you come from, where you're headed.

He knows the obstacles you're going through, the challenges you're going through.

He knows you by name.

Isaiah says that your name is actually written in the palm of his hand so that

when he looks at his hand, he sees your name.

And not only does he see your name he sees your face he sees you he sees your soul.

He sees you. How many of you know it's exciting when people remember your name?

I went to a place recently and I walked in and they just remembered my name

and something about that just excited me. Wow, you remembered my name.

Well, guess what? The good shepherd has never forgotten your name.

He knows your name and he sees you and he has not forgotten about you.

When others overlook you, Jehovah Rohi knows you.

When you feel forgotten by others, family members, friends, children,

Jehovah Rohi knows who you are.

And he calls you by your name.

That's important that you're being called by your name, not calling you big

head, not calling you apple head. He calling you by your name,

Robert, Jeannie, Josh, Charles.

He calls you by your name.

And although a shepherd, although watch this, although a shepherd has not been a sheep, right?

A shepherd, just think about it. A shepherd is not a sheep.

But, somebody say but. It's different with Jesus. Jesus came to earth and lived as a sheep.

And now he's your shepherd. Who could be a better shepherd than one who has been a sheep?

Amen. He came, stripped himself of all divinity to come, put on human flesh

to know how you feel and think and act,

know how to correspond and interact with you.

And now he's the good shepherd, and he knows how to lead you,

Protect you and provide for you Come on

somebody say amen He knows how you feel

And he knows exactly How to

lead you This is Jehovah Rohi He is

your shepherd You are not alone You are not worthless You are not doing life

By yourself You are not just trying to get by You're not just trying to make

it You're not just trying to figure it out You have your personal shepherd.

And he loves you and he knows you and he knows everything about everything.

Glory to God. And he's rich.

Glory to God. And he's a healer. Amen. And he's always present.

Glory to God. Say, the Lord is my shepherd. The Lord is my shepherd.

Now, let's read Psalms 23.

Psalms 23, very familiar and famous passage of scripture. And like we said earlier,

pride says, I've heard this before.

Humility says, I need to hear it again. Amen.

The Lord is my shepherd. Matter of fact, read it with me. Read it with me. Ready?

Read. The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside the still waters.

He restores my soul He leads me in the paths of righteousness For his name's sake Yea,

though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil

For you are with me Your rod and your staff,

they comfort me You prepare a table before me In the presence of my enemies,

You anoint my head with oil.

My cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Come on, somebody say amen. Amen.

Years ago, Stacey, I just felt led to share this story.

Stacey went to a workout class, and now she goes to workout classes,

but this story I'm telling you was years ago. Okay.

All right, that makes sense? So she works out.

But years ago, she went to this class and she said, Devon, there was this lady

in the class who didn't do anything. The instructor said the instructor would

say, come on, let's do some jumping jacks.

The lady would stand there and watch. The instructor say, come on, let's touch your toes.

Lady would stand there and watch. The instructor would say, come on, let's do some squats.

The lady would stand there and watch. And she said, it was kind of weird.

The lady didn't do anything. And when she told me that, the first thing that

came out of my mouth was, well, at least she showed up.

And the Holy Spirit arrested me. As soon as I said that.

He says, what good is it to show up and not participate?

And that hit me because a lot of times we come to church.

And I don't want to say all this stuff. Pastor, make me say all this stuff.

Make me read all this. I don't want to do none of that. what good is it?

To show up and not participate. We got to engage and participate. Amen.

See, what happens is that we have created, unintentionally I think,

the church has created this show up and sit mentality.

Show up, the pastor would do everything for me, the worship leader would do

everything for me, and y'all just sit.

And if you like it, you know, then maybe you smile. If you don't like it,

then you won't come back. Screw all that.

We are here to participate.

Amen. Come on, put your hands together.

We come to engage and to participate. Amen.

I was talking to a guy one time. He's like, I never say when the pastor says

something, I never say what he says back. Well, stay broke then.

You know what? Stay poor. Stay lacking then. We're trying to get you from point A to point B.

Amen. And so follow our lead. Amen.

And so we're up here reading all this stuff. It's so that we can participate.

I didn't come to get you going.

Come on, somebody. If you would just run. I didn't come do all that.

I came to encourage you that Jehovah Rohi is with you. And he's my shepherd.

And he shall, I shall not want.

Amen. And so we say, read the chapter. We're gonna read the chapter.

Out loud, amen. Somebody say out loud.

Amen. So watch this, Psalms 23, the Lord is.

That's a promise that he is anything and everything you need him to be.

The Lord is, watch this, my shepherd. That's a promise to lead, feed, and protect you.

I shall not want. That's a promise of provision that you will lack nothing.

Glory to God.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures. That's a promise of rest.

Sheep won't rest unless they feel safe.

And so the shepherd makes you feel safe. And then you will lie down in green pastures.

Watch this. He leads me. That's a promise of his leadership.

He leads me beside the steel waters.

What's that? The promise of peace and refreshment. Glory to God.

He restores my soul.

That's a promise of renewal and a promise of strength.

Even though I walk, that's a promise of continuation. Glory to God.

Through the valley of the shadow of death, shadows can't hurt you.

A shadow of a dog ain't never been anybody.

You're listening to me now. Shadows can't hurt you. But I like this part.

Let me pause here through the valley.

Somebody say the valley. The valley is only a transition or a pathway between two mountains.

And mountains are always synonymous with victories. And so when you're walking

through the valley, you're just walking from victory to victory.

It's a season of transition. And God is stripping you of what you don't need.

So when you get to the next mountain, you got everything you do need.

Hallelujah. Glory to God.

Hey, we're not supposed to stay in the valley. We're supposed to walk through

the valley. Keep your head up because the shepherd is leading you every step

of the way. Say amen to that.

Valleys are seasons of difficulty, but God promises the good shepherd,

Jehovah Roha, that he will walk with you through the valley into something greater.

I will fear no evil. That's a promise of love.

You know, love casts out all fear.

Amen. 1 John 4, 18, love casts out all fear. You are with me.

That's a promise of nearness to God.

You are with me. Last week, we talked about Jehovah Shema.

The Lord is here. The Lord is there. The Lord is with you.

And that is a promise that he's with you.

I mean, y'all this week need to be thinking more about the Lord being with you than anything else.

Robert don't got to be with you. Shanene don't got to be with you.

Your mama may not be with you.

Your grandchildren may not be with you. Your boss may not be with you.

Your spouse may have transitioned to heaven, but God is with you.

Come on, somebody. And that's all you need.

You don't need anybody but Jehovah with you. Say amen to that.

Watch this. Your rod, that's a promise of protection.

Your staff, that's a promise of power, shall comfort you. That's a promise of reassurance.

You prepare, that's a promise to get you ready. Come on, somebody, it's time to get ready.

T.D. James used to say, get ready, get ready, get ready. We got to get ready

for what God has ahead of us.

You prepare, a promise to get ready, a table, a promise of abundance.

I love this. You will even be blessed while your enemies watch a table set before

you in the presence of you while they are looking.

You're being blessed. Glory to God. Can you take the hate? That's the question I have for you.

Can you take the hate people when you're blessed?

People will hate you. They don't even know why.

And it's probably someone closest to you. They're going to start hating you.

Start talking about you. Start making fun of you. Start saying that you're doing something illegal.

And hate you. Can you handle the hate? If you can't, you don't want the blessing.

Because the blessing comes with persecution. Can you handle it?

When God begins to increase you more and more, can you handle the talking,

the gossip, the things that people will say behind your back and even to your face?

Can you handle relationships being broken because you're so blessed?

I'm talking about what I know, how God has had to sift certain people out of

my life because they can't handle someone being blessed.

Can you handle it? Can you handle the talking? That's the key, the making fun of.

I may have shared this story in the past, but someone had given me this Rolex.

No, no, it wasn't a Rolex. It was a Breitling. A Breitling watch.

You ever familiar with a Breitling? There was an expensive watch.

As a matter of fact, short story, we went to the mall, and there was a little Brightlands store.

And I told Stacey, I said, I didn't know how much Brightlands cost at the time.

I said, let's go in this Brightlands store. And I started looking,

and I saw this watch right here. It was on sale.

I said, oh, glory to God. I looked. I said, woo, that's a nice watch.

And she came with me, and I asked the man, I said, how much is this watch,

Dana? I said, how much is this watch?

I said, this is nice. He said, $10,000.

I said, glory to God.

Woo. That's a nice. I'm a pass on that today today. I'm a pass on it,

but that's nice. Nice I you give me your car cuz I you know,

I'll be back. He was like, okay, you know, it won't be on sale for long Yeah,

I know. I know that's really nice.

I kept it moving but one time someone gave me a.

A nice Breitling type watch. I think it was sort of a knockoff,

but it was bling bling, okay?

It was shining and glistening, okay?

And I used to not wear the watch because I was ashamed that someone may talk about me.

Somebody would be like, Pastor, up there preaching, look at that big old watch he got on.

I was ashamed, Wayne, and I didn't wear it.

And I'd be lifting my hands up and I thought, oh, I better put that hand down

because, you know, You know, somebody might see the bling bling on that watch.

And I start and the Lord start talking to me, say, you ain't ready for the blessing

there. If you ain't ready to be talked about, you ain't ready for the blessing.

And so I had to I actually gave that watch away because I was too embarrassed to wear it.

Now, I'm believing for a hundredfold harvest to come back on that watch.

And when it does, I'm going to be up here wearing it. OK, I don't care what y'all say about it.

The Lord can get anything to me from anyone, anywhere, at any time.

It don't mean I paid for it.

You don't know how I got it. And let me share this with you.

I didn't mean to go this direction.

But if you got something nice and someone compliments you on it,

don't say, well, I got that on sale at the JCPenney.

Now you're trying to justify why you got something nice. Are you listening?

Don't justify it and say thank you.

Thank you. The Lord blessed me with this. Thank you. But we're trying to justify,

well, you know, I got to say, oh, this is just a little hand-me-down.

No, just say, thank you. The Lord blessed me with this. And guess what? He can bless you too.

Amen. And so can you eat a feast in the presence of your enemies?

That's the question you have to answer. Can I operate with increase on my life

in the presence of all of the haters?

That's the question you're going to have to answer. And for me,

I gave that watch away because I did not want to be talked about.

I wanted to hide under the radar, and I don't want anybody to know about this.

And the Lord blessed me with it, but I didn't want to wear it.

I've heard of a minister say that he was blessed with a nice new car, and he never drove it.

Someone bought it for him. As a matter of fact, it was an anniversary and their

church got together and bought him a nice car.

And he never drove it because he was embarrassed because it was so nice.

My question is, can you handle the haters that are going to talk about you?

Because there's a table prepared getting you ready in the presence of will you eat?

Will you eat at the table or will you say nah I'm unworthy we know you're unworthy,

we know that God through Christ Jesus has made you worthy in and of your own

self you are filthy rags we understand that but God has made you worthy through

Christ Jesus can you receive it.

Can you receive it I was promoted at my secular job three times in two years,

started out making $28,000, started making well over $100,000.

People started talking about me. Well, who does he know?

Who is he booty kissing? You know, what's going on? All this stuff. None of that was true.

Just the blessing of the Lord will make you rich and add no sorrow to it, right?

I just stood and just smiled. Y'all just keep talking. This is the blessing of the Lord. Amen.

And I'm going to eat at the table that's being prepared for me. Say amen to that.

You anoint my head. That is a promise of an assignment.

An anoint meaning is also an appointing or a promise of notoriety.

You anoint my head with oil. Praise God.

My oil is abundance, is the Holy Spirit.

You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over.

Are you ready for a life that just runs over?

Not a life that just barely half full all the time.

A life that runs over. And you have to ask your spouse or your friend,

what do I do with the extra?

I'm just running over. What do I do with the extra? Say that.

What do I do with the extra? See, we're so used to saying, well,

how am I going to make it? because I got all this lack.

Start the same energy that it takes to think more about lack is you can think about extra.

I do the bills in our home and I sit down, I do them, you know,

the bill pay or whatever.

And, you know, I see that bank account

dwindling down and I get a little nervous. I start biting my nails.

Oh Lord, the count's going down to zero. And I changed all that several years

ago. I said, when I'm paying the bills, I say, there's extra.

Lord, what do you want me to do with the extra? Amen. What do you want me to

do with that? My cup overflows.

I went and spoke somewhere. This was pre-COVID and it was an impromptu speaking

somewhere and someone asked me to come and I don't charge anybody to go speak anywhere.

I don't have a charge to preach the gospel.

Now, if you want me to officiate your wedding, I do have a charge.

Okay. That's another thing.

That's not preaching the gospel And I get a lot of people ask me Tasha handles

this for me They're not in our church Don't get me wrong If you're in our church

I handle that But I get asked a lot to do weddings That are not in my church

And I do have a charge for that But I don't know why I'm telling you that Back to this thing,

In case somebody trying to ask me Just know I will charge If you got an open bar,

I'm going to charge Because you're paying a whole lot of money For that open bar,

Somebody say amen to that Sometimes the open bar Is more than the venue,

But we don't want to get Pastor nothing for No, no, you know I'm going to charge,

Pastor, we want you to do Pastor Devon, can you do our wedding?

Yeah, we don't have no budget for you You have a budget for the bar?

We do Hey, you got a budget for me too Amen You with me, H&G? Yeah Yeah.

And so this particular ministry really blessed me.

They blessed me for coming to speak. And it was a nice honorarium check for

coming. And they really honored me with it.

And Stacey and I got really, really excited about it. Yes, we're going to go on vacation.

Nothing wrong with vacation. We're going to, you know, buy this.

Nothing wrong with buying something.

But I turned to the Lord. I said, Lord, this is extra.

What do you want me to do with the extra? Amen.

The Lord said, here's what I want you to do. I want you to take half of it.

I want you to do this one. I want you to take the other half of it. It was nothing for me.

And I said, okay, that extra came in for somebody else. Amen.

So you need to begin to ask yourself, what should I do with the extra?

Now watch this. Where were we?

You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over a life that overflows. Watch this.

Goodness. Somebody say goodness. That's a promise of generosity Goodness and

mercy A promise to not give you what you deserve.

Mercy is you're not going to get what you deserve,

Man, I deserve a whole lot of bad things But the mercy of God doesn't give me

what I deserve Watch this We'll follow Somebody say follow,

So this is a promise to cover your rear end, cover your rear. This is a promise.

It's going to follow me all the days of my life.

This is a promise of daily blessings.

This is what Jehovah Rohi is promising us.

If we allow him to be our shepherd and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

forever. This is a promise of longevity, longevity, dwelling in the house of the Lord forever.

When we call on Jehovah Rohi, we're calling on the shepherd,

the shepherd that promises all these things to us.

Now, I want to read this from the Passion Translation.

This is Psalms 23, 1 through 6 from the Passion. Watch this. Let me read it to you.

The Lord is my best friend and my shepherd.

I always have more than enough. Can that be your testimony? I always have more than enough.

He offers a resting place for me in his luxurious love. His tracks take me to

an oasis of peace, the quiet brook of bliss.

That's where he restores and revives my life.

He opens before me pathways to God's pleasure and leads me along in his footsteps

of righteousness so that I can bring honor to his name.

Lord, even when your path takes me through the valley of deepest darkness,

fear will never conquer me, for you already have.

You remain close to me and lead me through it all the way.

Your authority is my strength and my peace.

The comfort of your love takes away my fear. I'll never be lonely for you are near.

You become my delicious feast even when my enemies dare to fight.

You anoint me with the fragrance of your Holy Spirit. You give me all I can

drink of, you, until my heart overflows.

So why would I fear the future?

For your goodness and love pursue me all the days of my life.

Then afterward, when my life is through, I'll return to your glorious presence to be forever with you.

Amen. Amen. Again, Jehovah Rohi, your shepherd, you have a shepherd that loves you, sees you.

Even when you feel forgotten, he sees you.

Even when you feel overlooked, he sees you.

He still has plans for you. He knows how to lead you.

He knows how to get you from point A to point B.

He knows how to direct you. He knows what you don't know.

I'm glad I know someone that knows what I don't know.

That's so comforting that I don't have to know it all, but I know someone that knows everything.

I have access to someone that has excess. Glory to God.

It is time for you and I to yield and surrender to Jehovah Rohi.

Stop trying to figure it all out.

Even as we're searching for this new building and the Lord's leading and guiding

and directing us, I've been leaning into Jehovah Rohi.

Like, Lord, you're the shepherd. I'm not going to worry about this.

You're going to lead and you're going to guide and you're going to direct.

And you're going to make the crooked places straight in. And you're going to

reveal exactly what needs to be revealed at the right time.

That's Jehovah Rohi. One translation says, Yahweh is my shepherd.

I shall not want or lack or decrease.

Oh, I love that. He's going to always be there for you.

But you have to make him your shepherd.

He's not the shepherd. He's my shepherd. He's my shepherd. Say he's my shepherd.

He's my shepherd. He he's going to my emotions don't leave me.

My feelings don't leave me. The bank account doesn't leave me.

Pookie and Ray Ray. They don't leave me.

Jehovah Rohi leads me. He he guides me and he will protect me.

Amen. Man, even when you miss the mark and make a mistake, Jehovah Roi is still

there, leading, guiding, protecting.

He'll never leave you nor forsake you. And it's time for you and I to just surrender.

Surrender. Surrender all of your cares.

Surrender all of your concerns.

Surrender all of your fears. As a matter of fact, just close your eyes right now.

All of your fears, all of your concerns, all of your cares,

all of your anxieties, surrender them to him. Humble yourself.

One of the reasons you're carrying a lot of worry is because you're carrying

it and you haven't surrendered it to him.
