Mark chapter 16, 17, and 18. These are the words of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 16 chapter mention
-
He says, and these signs will follow those who believe.
-
In my name or in my authority, they will cast out demons.
-
They will speak with new tongues.
-
Verse 18 says, they will take up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly,
-
it will by no means hurt them.
-
They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.
-
Over the last few weeks, we've been talking about our ability to speak in tongues.
-
Jesus said that new believers will speak with new tongues.
-
Tongues just simply means languages.
-
There are over 7,000 known languages in the earth.
-
And there are more unknown languages in the earth, actually countless and innumerable
-
amount of unknown languages in the earth.
-
And Jesus said that we as believers would speak in a language that is unknown to humanity,
-
a language that only us as the speaker and God would understand.
-
And that language is called tongues. And Jesus said here that believers will speak with tongues.
-
It is an important aspect of our development and our cultivation as believers
-
in order to fulfill the call and the mission that he's placed upon our life.
-
We're going to have to go deeper.
-
If you're tired of your routine and your mundane relationship,
-
it's time to go deeper. It's time to tap into a unlimited reservoir of life-giving water.
-
And that happens when you begin to yield your members and begin to get outside
-
of your understanding and begin to speak with tongues.
-
And Jesus said new believers would do that. They would speak with tongues.
-
I believe that every believer can have a prayer language.
-
Everybody, not just some, every believer can. And we found out a couple of weeks
-
ago, there are three different baptisms in scripture.
-
The first baptism is the Holy Spirit baptizing you in the body of Christ. That is salvation.
-
Sinners become or are made righteous through salvation. The Holy Spirit convicts
-
our heart that we are sinners and we give our life to Jesus, right?
-
And he baptizes us into the body of Christ. That's salvation.
-
The second baptism is water baptism. That water baptism is an identification
-
with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. I believe it's a literal
-
cutting away of our sinful nature.
-
When we are dipped, fully immersed in the water, we died with him.
-
We're buried with him when we're under the water.
-
And when we come up, we're raised to new life with him.
-
And so water baptism, any disciple can baptize somebody.
-
You don't have to wait for me as a pastor. I believe you as disciples could
-
baptize people, give them the gospel, and then baptize them. Amen.
-
Now, I love baptizing you, okay? Bring everybody you want. I'll baptize you. But you can do it, too.
-
Don't wait. Well, when's baptismal serve? I need to wait until the... No, no, no.
-
Get you a swimming pool, a tub, and dip them in that water.
-
Amen. man, anybody could water baptize. And then the third baptism is the baptism
-
with or in the Holy Spirit.
-
Jesus will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
-
And every gospel, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John talks about that.
-
The books of Acts talk about being baptized with the Holy Spirit as well.
-
And when you are baptized with the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit no longer is
-
in you. He becomes on you.
-
He's in you for you, but he's on you for others.
-
Scripture says that he comes down and will reign upon you. He will rest upon you.
-
Upon means up on you. And when he's up on you, it's for power purposes. It's for fire.
-
It's to rearrange and to change things.
-
And one of the ways that the Holy Spirit comes upon us is he allows us to begin
-
to speak in a new language, which is called tongues.
-
We see here in Ephesians chapter 6, verse 18, Ephesians chapter 6,
-
verse 18, the Apostle Paul says, praying always, watch this,
-
with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. Somebody say in the Spirit.
-
This is important, praying in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all
-
perseverance and supplication for all the saints. I want you to notice that
-
he says we can pray always with all prayer.
-
There are different varieties and types of prayer. You know,
-
you have the prayer of agreement.
-
You have the prayer of faith. You have the prayer of healing.
-
You have intercessory prayer, prayer of sanctification, and you also have praying in the spirit.
-
That's the type of prayer is part of your arsenal and your weaponry.
-
If you're a cook, it's a good utensil in the kitchen for you that you can use
-
whatever you need. Praise God.
-
My wife's a cook and she has these all unique types of utensils in the drawer that she uses.
-
Why? Because it's an arsenal. It's for us. It's beneficial for us.
-
And so we can pray all type of prayers in the Spirit. Somebody say, in the Spirit.
-
Now, this is important because we find out in 1 Corinthians chapter 14, verse 2,
-
1 Corinthians chapter 14, verse 2, the Apostle Paul says, For he who speaks
-
in a tongue, that's a heavenly language, does not speak to men, but to God.
-
For no one understands him. Watch this. However, there it is, in the Spirit.
-
In the Spirit. Say, in the Spirit. In the Spirit. He speaks mysteries.
-
So we notice Paul is saying when he mentions in the spirit, he's talking about
-
praying in tongues He's talking about praying in the spirit and you can be sure
-
that when you're praying in the spirit You are praying to God,
-
You're not you are not talking some devil language You're not making something up.
-
It's not jibber-jab And you may ask well, how do I know if it's jibber-jab or not?
-
You know, how do I know it just feels like I'm just stuttering or making sounds
-
and syllables? What's the difference? The difference is faith.
-
I am not trying to talk jibber jab. I'm trying to talk to God in a language
-
that I'm unfamiliar with, but he is very familiar with.
-
So I want my spirit to communicate with his spirit.
-
And then he will begin to download what he said here in first Corinthians mysteries.
-
Those mysteries are divine secrets, coded information that you do not know.
-
And when you're praying in the spirit, last week we talked about you're building
-
yourself up, you're charging yourself, you're uplifting yourself,
-
you're erecting like a building, an edifice in yourself.
-
You're getting stronger because life is difficult.
-
Life is hard. Life drains you. Life can cause you to have a weak spirit.
-
And so in order to strengthen your spirit, you're going to have to pray in the spirit.
-
And not just pray in the spirit, you're going to have to pray in English as
-
well. Matter of fact, you're just going to have to pray.
-
You're going to have to pray. MC Hammond said we need to pray what? Just to make it today.
-
There's a lot of truth in that. We're going to have to pray.
-
And you know they say that most people pray less than seven minutes a day.
-
And here's what's alarming. They said most pastors pray the same amount of time,
-
less than seven minutes a day.
-
So there have been times when I heard that that I set my watch for seven minutes.
-
I'm going to hit at least the bottom half. Right. And then I'm going to go more than that. Praise God.
-
And so we're going to have to pray in the spirit.
-
You're going to have to open up your mouth. yield your members to sounds and
-
syllables that come from the spirit that you're unfamiliar with and as you get
-
going you will begin to sense that the Holy Spirit will help you.
-
As you get started he's never going to open up your mouth and make you do or
-
say something you don't want to say. He's not the devil.
-
He's the Holy Spirit. And so you're going to have to yield. You're going to have to relax.
-
You're going to have to trust and you're going to have to open up your mouth
-
and allow him to speak mysteries through you.
-
And as you're praying in the spirit, I believe that God is also talking to you
-
as you are talking to him.
-
He's talking to you. You know, you can do more than one thing at a time.
-
I know I feel like this is me. I can't watch more than one show at a time.
-
Sacha's like, well, watch this show. I'm like, well, I'm already watching this other show.
-
Well, watch this one. I can't watch both of them at the same time.
-
I know that's silly, but that's just me.
-
I don't know why I feel like I can't watch two shows. I can't read two books at the same time.
-
I've got to finish one, and I've got to start. I just, I can't do,
-
but you know what? You actually can.
-
You can do more than you think you can do, and you can receive,
-
you have the capacity to receive from him more than you think you can.
-
And as you pray in the spirit, one more time, guys, put 1 Corinthians 14, 2 back up there.
-
As you pray in the spirit, he says, if you speak in a tongue or pray in the
-
spirit, you're not talking to men, but to God. You're talking to God.
-
Amen. When you're in the shower, pray in the Holy Ghost and talk to God.
-
When you're driving the car, pray in the Holy Ghost and talk to God.
-
When you're sitting on the porch, praying, when you're walking around Walmart
-
or Target, under your breath, don't go into Target, no, no, no,
-
no. That's not beneficial for anybody.
-
That's just crazy and wacky. Just under your breath, pray in the Holy Ghost.
-
I do it all the time, just under my breath. When someone is praying and you're
-
in a prayer setting, someone's praying, pray in the Holy Ghost.
-
Pray in the Holy Ghost. When someone's up here worshiping and singing.
-
Pray, sing in the Holy Ghost under your breath, but just sing in the Holy Ghost.
-
If you get loud, just don't be a distraction because we don't know what you're saying.
-
Amen. And so out loud edifies out loud is not beneficial to others.
-
Praying is beneficial to you when you do it in a private setting.
-
Say amen to that. It says that you will speak mystery.
-
Somebody say mysteries.
-
Now, I saw this in First Corinthians chapter two. Go there and we're going to
-
read several verses in First Corinthians chapter two.
-
The Apostle Paul wrote First Corinthians. I want to say something real quick about the scriptures.
-
This Bible was written over 1,500 years ago.
-
Praise God. 1,500 years ago, 66 books,
-
1,500 year span, over 40 authors in three languages across three continents,
-
and there has never been a correction.
-
In this Bible, there has never been anything that any of the 40 authors over
-
1,500 years disagreed on.
-
They all agreed over a large span of time.
-
No contradictions in the scripture.
-
This Bible can be trusted. It can be trusted. This is incorruptible seed.
-
This is what we're preaching today, the Holy Bible, the best-selling book in
-
the world, the oldest book in the world, amen?
-
And I've been hearing that more and more, that Bibles are selling like crazy now.
-
Glory to God, people are getting hungry for the things of God.
-
Now watch this, 1 Corinthians chapter 2, meet me at verse 4.
1 Corinthians 2 chapter mention
-
Apostle Paul says here, And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive
-
words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the spirit and of power.
-
So he's saying, I didn't come to give you articulate, sort of enticing,
-
sort of embellished type of preaching to get you going a little bit. I didn't come to do that.
-
I came to give you the demonstration of the spirit and of power that your faith
-
should not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
-
Today, a lot of our faith is in the wisdom of men.
-
Whoever is the best preacher, whoever has the most extensive vocabulary.
-
Whoever can make the words rhyme and tingle and tickle and all type of stuff,
-
we just follow that person because boy, they can preach.
-
They preached the house down and didn't tell you nothing, but they shown up preach the house down.
-
That's following the wisdom of men. We need to be looking at people that have
-
the power of God in operation in their life. Amen?
-
Someone that's operating in the
-
spirit and the power that's preaching the word of God in the same vein.
-
And this is what Paul said I came to do. I didn't come to rock the house.
-
I came that your faith should be not being the wisdom of men but the power of God.
-
Look at verse 6. However, we speak wisdom,
-
Among those who are mature, this is what I want to get to.
-
He says, we speak wisdom among those who are spiritually mature,
-
not the wisdom of this age or this world, nor the rulers of this world who are coming to nothing.
-
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery.
-
So Paul told us in 1 Corinthians 14, 2 That praying in the spirit Speaking in
-
the spirit We're speaking mysteries Now he's saying here that we're speaking The wisdom of God.
-
So we're not just talking to God, we're speaking the wisdom of God in a mystery.
-
I like this, the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the ages for our glory,
-
for which none of these rulers of the age knew, for had they known,
-
they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
-
But as it is written, eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into
-
the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love him.
-
How many people love him today?
-
Yes. But God has revealed them. Watch this. Verse 10.
-
He's revealed them to us through his spirit. There it is again.
-
He's revealing things to us through his spirit for the spirit searches all things.
-
Yes, the deep things of God. I want you to go deeper in God.
-
This is one of the things I think Ron and I were talking about this that I really want you to do.
-
I want you to go deeper in your
-
relationship with God going into 2026 go
-
deeper with him and here he's saying the spirit is going to reveal the deep
-
things of God for what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of man
-
which is in him even so no one knows the things of God except the spirit of
-
God look at verse 12 now we have received somebody say I have received,
-
Say it again. I have received.
-
Say it one more time. I have received not the spirit of the world,
-
but the spirit who is from God that we may know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
-
Remember, they're hidden in a mystery.
-
Look at verse 13. These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches.
-
So we're not talking about speaking English. Are you listening to me today?
-
Not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches.
-
Comparing spiritual things with spiritual, but the natural man does not receive
-
the things of the Spirit of God.
-
Why? For they are foolishness to him. Nor can he know them because they are
-
spiritually discerned.
-
And so notice Paul is alluding to, I believe, speaking and praying in the spirit.
-
Mysteries, hidden wisdom that is for the mature.
-
That the hidden wisdom is not in what humanity is teaching us.
-
We're not going to a person to get some wisdom.
-
No, no, no. We're talking to the Holy Spirit who knows everything about everything.
-
How many of you want wisdom from me or do you want wisdom from the Holy Spirit?
-
I mean, he knows way more than I know.
-
Now, you should come to me as a pastor and that sort of thing for some confirmation advice, etc.
-
But the Holy Spirit, you don't have to wait on an appointment with me.
-
At any moment, you can talk to the Holy Spirit.
-
And get downloaded wisdom, and then you talk to me, and I'll confirm it or not,
-
praise God, because we can miss it.
-
Did you know that? Did you know you could miss it? I don't know if you knew that. You can miss it.
-
You can miss it. And so there was one particular time I have a good friend.
-
He'll probably listen to this message. And I came up with some theory.
-
This long time ago, and I was in Bible school and I came up with some theory
-
that God didn't know everything.
-
Forgive me. I know I came up. I had this theory going to if he'd have known,
-
he would not have let Eve eat of it and convince Adam to eat. if he'd have known.
-
And I had this whole theory. I hadn't preached it, but it was coming up.
-
And I was digging into it. God don't know everything. And I shared it with one
-
of my friends. He looked at me and said, dude, all of that's wrong.
-
He's like, all of it. Just stop right now. All of it's wrong.
-
It's not right. God knows everything. And I thought, you're right. I don't know.
-
If you can go down the path and begin to miss it, and thinking you're hearing
-
from God and you hear it from a deceiving spirit that's trying to manipulate
-
you in the form of an angel of light.
-
Trying to sound like God, but it's not God at all. And so you can miss it.
-
That's why it's good to have each other.
-
Amen. The body of Christ will help one another.
-
You should have four, you know, not many, but two to four good friends.
-
And you can say, let me bounce this off. And they tell you that's wrong.
-
You know, that's not right. You know, you should have that because we all want
-
to get it right. and the Spirit will help us get it right when we begin to pray in the Spirit.
-
First, we're just going to have to pray and then cross over into praying in tongues.
-
I encourage you, every time you charge your phone, we said that in our last
-
message, man, I'm going to pray in tongues for just a few minutes right now.
-
Every time you get in the car, I'm going to pray in the Spirit.
-
Just a few minutes right now. You're going to get so addicted to this because
-
you're going to start getting solutions and answers and wisdom from God that
-
you're going to want to pray even more.
-
I mean, wisdom is the greatest wealth.
-
It's money is not the greatest wealth. Influence is not the greatest wealth.
-
Who you're connected with is not the greatest wealth.
-
Wisdom is the greatest wealth. You get wisdom. You get everything else that you need.
-
I like when the Lord went to Solomon.
-
Y'all know the story and said, I want to give you anything you ask for.
-
And Solomon, you know, could have said, you know, I need a Nintendo switch.
-
You know, I need I need something, all this stuff.
-
But what he did say was I need wisdom.
-
And God said, because you ask for wisdom, I'm going to give you everything. He has glory to God.
-
Amen. Wisdom is a great as well. We need solutions.
-
We need answers.
-
We've got to know what to do when we don't know what to do.
-
And this is what praying in the spirit does You are downloading In real time
-
answers And solutions that will be revealed Later,
-
Not all the time do you get the answer solution In that moment because you have to walk by faith,
-
And without faith And patience you're not going to inherit the promise And so
-
God's going to always require Right that you walk by faith And not by Sight
-
and so wisdom When you lack clarity, get wisdom.
-
Let me say it again. When you lack clarity, get wisdom and get wisdom from above.
-
Over this season of us looking for a new location, I've been praying in the
-
spirit more than I've ever prayed before because I need clarity.
-
I need wisdom. I need discernment. I need to hear from him. He's leading.
-
He's guiding. He's directing.
-
And I got to hear from him. I got to know what to do when the time is right
-
and we're not talking you know five ten dollars these are million dollar conversations.
-
That we're having, I got to know what to do. So I need his wisdom.
-
I'm listening to him. I'm praying in his spirit. And let me tell you this footnote.
-
Let me say it this way. When you don't know what to do, sometimes you pray, you get his wisdom.
-
But then there are times you got to make some decisions.
-
Yeah, I mean, I just ain't heard clearly, but I got to make a decision like
-
right now because I didn't hear clearly.
-
Don't think in terms of right and wrong.
-
The right decision or the wrong decision Because we all are scared of the wrong
-
decision That's why we're indecisive a lot Because we don't want to make the
-
wrong decision It could set us back, right?
-
Think in terms of wise and foolish.
-
Don't think in terms of right and wrong. Think in terms of wise and foolish.
-
What do I mean? So here it is.
-
OK, is that foolish? Yeah, that that's pretty foolish. I should I should probably not do that.
-
Wisdom is the opposite of foolishness. Right. And that's what that's how I live
-
my life. If I don't really know what to do, I'm praying.
-
I'm seeking clarity. I'm praying in tongues. I haven't gotten the exact direction, instruction.
-
I think in terms of wise and foolish.
-
Is that a wise decision or is that a foolish decision?
-
And I usually know wise and foolish answers way quicker than I know right and
-
wrong answers. Say amen to that.
-
Wise and foolish. Think in terms of is that wise or is that foolish?
-
And as you are praying in the spirit, God's downloading wisdom unto you so that
-
you'll know what to do. You have clarity.
-
Even when you don't know what to do, you'll know what to do.
-
And when somebody asks you, what do we do?
-
Don't say, I don't know. Say, I always know what to do. And I'll tell you when I know.
-
I'll tell you when it's discovered. But I always know what to do because God
-
is leading and he's guiding. Somebody say amen.
-
And so prayer in the spirit is downloading mysteries, secrets, and wisdom.
-
Wisdom. Wisdom is the principal thing Proverbs 4 said. So we got to get wisdom.
-
Wisdom. Proverbs 8 talks about by wisdom we can gain all these things.
-
How many of you want to know answers and solutions to maybe things going on
-
in your body, things going on in your finances, things going on in your children,
-
things going on with your relationship with your parents and your aunts and
-
uncles and things going on at work. You got to have these solutions.
-
They're found in praying in the spirit.
-
There are heavy decisions that really need to be made.
-
If you even take a look at our country, major decisions that need to be made.
-
In our localities, major decisions.
-
Somebody needs to be praying in the spirit to get these answers from heaven
-
because there are solutions to every problem that we've ever faced.
-
And we get that when we pray in the spirit. I want to encourage you.
-
Every believer can. To take a step To pray in the spirit Open up your mouth
-
and begin to declare things By yourself.
-
Not at work By yourself Quietly, you can do it at work But make sure it's quiet
-
And you just begin to pray in the spirit You know, somebody telling you something
-
you don't understand Just,
-
Just pray in the spirit under your breath. I got to get this.
-
I got to get this because I don't understand. How do I respond?
-
There was one particular time I was playing pickup basketball.
-
I used to play a lot of pickup basketball.
-
I don't play that much anymore because I got hurt one time and it took like a year for me to heal.
-
I mean, a normal ankle sprain used to a couple. Man, I used to be back out there
-
the next day in my early 20s.
-
Right, man, that thing was hurt for like a year.
-
I retired. I said, I don't play pick up ball anymore. So I don't play.
-
People ask me want to play.
-
No, I don't. I don't have time to rehabilitate if I get hurt.
-
I just don't have the time. And so we were playing one time and this one particular
-
guy was whispering to another guy and we were playing pick up ball.
-
And I walked up and I saw him whispering and I said, what are y'all whispering
-
about? Because we're about to get on the court and play next.
-
And the guy turned to me. And he said, Devon, I smoke, I drink, I sin.
-
That's what he said to me. I was like, whoa, I thought we were about to fight.
-
That's how forceful it was.
-
We're about to play basketball and you turn to me and you smoke, you drink, and you sin.
-
And I turned and I didn't know in the natural. What do you say to that in the natural?
-
I don't know. but I was praying in the spirit earlier
-
consistently and the
-
Holy Spirit say to him I didn't I just it came out of my mouth I said what if
-
nobody's in hell for smoking and drinking and sinning and he said what I said
-
yeah what if nobody's in hell for smoking and drinking and sinning.
-
He said, well, why would they be in hell? I said, because they rejected Jesus,
-
the Savior, the one that can take them from a sinner and make them righteous.
-
He was like, what? He said, I need to talk to you after the game.
-
I said, yeah, yeah, we need to talk.
-
We do need to talk because I thought we was going to fight. Now we got to talk, you know.
-
So afterwards of the game, we ended up talking a little bit,
-
and I led him to the Lord right there on that basketball court. Praise God.
-
In the natural, you don't know what to say to that kind of stuff,
-
but when you pray in the Spirit consistently, God will give you answers in real time.
-
Real time, you'll get these answers when you just consistently pray in the Spirit.
-
Now, let's go to Romans chapter 8 and meet me at verse 26.
Romans 8 chapter mention
-
And we'll read through the verse 28. Are y'all getting something out of today?
-
Let me ask you, are you getting something out of today? There we go.
-
And the Holy Spirit helps in our weakness. In the living translation, new living.
-
For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for.
-
But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. Look at verse 27.
-
And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying.
-
For the Spirit pleads with us, for us believers in harmony with God's own will. Verse 28.
-
And we know that God causes everything to work together for good of those who
-
love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
-
Now, let's dissect this. Let's take a time, the time and really go through this.
-
Excuse me. In verse 26 says the Holy Spirit helps in our weaknesses.
-
The King James says the Holy Spirit helps in our infirmities.
-
Infirmities simply mean weaknesses and we all have weaknesses. But here's one of them.
-
We don't know what God wants us to pray for or we don't always know how to pray.
-
That's one of our weaknesses. We don't know what to pray, and we don't always
-
know what God wants us to pray.
-
But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
-
That literally means the Holy Spirit, when you begin to pray in the Spirit,
-
the Holy Spirit will pray with you and begin to express things in inarticulate speech.
-
We don't understand the speech So it's not expressed in words that we understand,
-
It's in words that only the spirit understands Now you guys can take that verse
-
down But I want you to notice this where it says That he helps in our weaknesses.
-
We don't always know what to pray for But he helps The term he helps in our
-
infirmities in the King James means that he will hold tightly together with against.
-
Hold tightly together with, against.
-
Okay, so what does that mean? When you pray in the Spirit,
-
one of the things the Holy Spirit will do is he will hold tightly together with
-
you against any obstacle, any hindrance, any weakness,
-
any not knowing what to do.
-
He's going to hold together against you with, against.
-
Let me give an example. Let's take these steps for example,
-
I can't pick these steps up by myself So I can say hey I need a couple of guys
-
To come help me pick up these steps We're going to carry these steps off Well
-
what are we doing We are actually coming together tightly,
-
With one another.
-
Against the weight Of those steps So that we can carry it together,
-
And take care of what God wants us to take care of Amen Do you see that illustration
-
He's going to help us hold together with us against any hindrance,
-
any obstacle, or any not knowing what to do or how to pray.
-
And so he's saying there, and when you pray, he's going to speak to you in words
-
that are not expressed in articulate way in a way that we understand.
-
He's going to talk to us in a heavenly language. which we're going to open up
-
our mouth, we're going to yield, and he's going to help us pray.
-
And in verse 27, let's put that on the screen, verse 27. And the Father who
-
knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying.
-
Glory to God, for the Spirit pleads
-
for us believers in harmony with God's will. What is he saying there?
-
We can be sure we're praying the will of God when we pray in the Spirit,
-
Because he's going to help us and look at verse 28,
-
It says here and we know that God causes everything to work together for the
-
good of those who love God and are called according.
-
For them. In the King James, we know that verse is, all things work together
-
for good to those who love God. How many of you love God?
-
So all things are going to work together for your good. But can I submit this to you?
-
Is it possible that Romans 8.28, that everybody quotes, is actually talking
-
about praying in the Spirit?
-
That when you pray in the Spirit, all things are going to work together for
-
the good are those who are called according to his purpose.
-
I mean, we just see in verse 26, he's talking about praying in the spirit.
-
Verse 27, praying in spirit.
-
Verse 28, is it possible that he's also talking about praying in the spirit?
-
All things working together for good when you just pray in the spirit.
-
A few years ago, normal night, get in the bed, 1030, usually I get in the bed
-
around 1030 or so, laid down.
-
Now, I'm one of those guys that believe in spending money on a bed.
-
Let me I just you spend a third of your life in bed.
-
Might as well just get you a nice bed.
-
Go on, spend a little extra money And get you a nice bed Because a third of
-
your life is spent in bed So when I heard that one time Somebody told me that
-
several years ago I said, we ain't skipping on no beds no more I used to skip on the bed Oh,
-
just give me that hand-me-down And nothing wrong with hand-me-downs Don't get
-
me wrong, nothing wrong with hand-me-downs But I said, it's time for me to spend
-
some money on the bed So I got a nice bed, okay Darren It's comfortable,
-
And I got me a nice pillow.
-
This pillow is, what is that called? where you put your head and your head go down in it.
-
Yeah, y'all know what I'm talking about. I got a memory foam.
-
Our bed is memory foam, praise God. And our pillow, memory foam.
-
I just spent a little extra money, put it, and I just, they got,
-
the kids got it for my birthday, and I love this new pillow I got.
-
I mean, it's perfect for my head.
-
When I get in the bed, I'm in the bed, okay? I'm not getting out the bed.
-
You know, the kids holler or something, stop it, And you know,
-
I'm not getting out checking on get back in the bed.
-
I'm in the bed, right? I'm exaggerating. I'm sorry I do get up.
-
I get up if they get if they're acting crazy, but.
-
Nevertheless when I get in the bed I'm in the bed and I laid down and went to
-
sleep momentarily, but I couldn't really Get into a deep sleep.
-
I started tossing started turning and I had this urge Get out the bed and go pray.
-
So I said, let me just lay in the bed and pray. Forgive me, but I said,
-
I'm going to lay here, and I'm just going to lay here and pray.
-
Don't look at me like that. Y'all do the same thing.
-
I'm just going to lay here, and I was hoping I would just pray as I'm laying
-
there and just fall asleep. And I started praying, no sleep.
-
I'm tossing, I'm turning, and I hear this urge, get out the bed and go pray.
-
You know, at this point, it's 1 a.m., right? I'm laying there for three hours, tossing, turning.
-
Stacy looking at me like, why do you keep moving? I said, I got it.
-
I got to get them go pray. She goes, go do it then. Goodness, let me sleep.
-
And so I was like, OK, so it's about 1 a.m.
-
Okay, Lord. Now, here's my weakness. I don't know. I don't know why I'm praying.
-
Why am I? Well, I got to get out the bed and get up and go pray.
-
I wanted to stay in the bed.
-
And so I get I go to my office. I have no idea.
-
Why I'm in there, except the Holy Spirit said, get up and go pray.
-
So what do you do then? Do you just pray in English the whole time and make up things to pray about?
-
You don't have to cross over into into tongues.
-
You're going to have to cross because you don't know. And this is where the
-
Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. So here's what I did.
-
I turned some worship music on really low because it was 1 a.m.
-
Or so in the morning. I had my Bible.
-
I started out in English, but I said, I'm going to cross over into praying in tongues.
-
And I crossed over into just praying in tongues. I have a chair in my office.
-
I sat in the chair and I had my Bible and I would read a little bit and I would pray in tongues.
-
I would sing a little bit. I would sing in tongues I would pray in English a
-
little bit I would read my Bible I would pray in tongues I would sing a little
-
bit Are you listening to me?
-
This is what you do when you have that urge And so I would just do that And
-
the next thing I know it's 3 in the morning,
-
Whatever popped in my mind I'm just, oh in English I pray for them in English
-
And whatever, whatever I didn't
-
know why I was up For about 2 hours I was just up And then about 3 a.m.
-
I felt good, felt woo, you know, started to rejoice a little bit.
-
This is how you know you've broken through when you start to rejoice.
-
I just started to get excited. OK, wow, I'm excited. Maybe I was excited to get back in the bed.
-
I don't know. But I was I was excited and I said, OK, all right, it's 3 a.m.
-
I'm going to go lay down and, you know, I had a busy day. The next day I go,
-
go, go lay down and get back, wake up and have my routine. At this point,
-
my routine was to go to the gym early.
-
And there was a class that I liked, and I went to the gym and worked out, it was great.
-
But on my way home from the gym, normal drive, a man runs the stop sign and
-
completely smashes into me.
-
And guys, put that on the screen, watch this video here.
-
I want you to see the context of my car.
-
So, man hits me.
-
Coming back from the gym, as you can see the pictures. That was Betsy,
-
by the way. Betsy was my car. I love Betsy.
-
I said it to my dad once. I said, I miss Betsy. And he said,
-
Betsy protected you when you needed it the most.
-
I said, hey, man, okay, Betsy, you came through for me, okay.
-
But the airbags deployed. I hit my head really, I mean, if it wasn't for the
-
angels and the airbags, I hit my head really hard. You saw that big old knot
-
I had on my head. I was angry.
-
I was frustrated because he just came out of nowhere and just ran to me.
-
I jumped out my car really upset.
-
OK, I was I was hot. And I go to his car and he's kind of, you know,
-
he can't even really get out.
-
He's kind of laying in and I look in and I open the door and he's he's just saying sorry, sorry.
-
Sorry. And I realized, I said, I think he has a concussion. Right.
-
And so the ambulances came and the fire department and so on and so forth.
-
And I'm calming down because, you know, I was I was hot. I was upset.
-
And when when that took place, I called Stacy to come pick me up.
-
And Stacy was like, I said, say, I got a little car accident and come get me.
-
Where are you at? Tell her I was.
-
She comes and she freaks out because of the devastation of the car and how I'm
-
looking. and what's going on.
-
And so we finally get things settled.
-
We go back home. I remember sitting on the couch and I was thinking, wow, man, my car's gone.
-
Car accident. Now watch this. I'm not even thinking about the Lord that spared
-
me or thank God that I got up and walked out of that.
-
Fine. Just with a little knot on my head. I'm not even thinking about that.
-
I'm just thinking about, oh man, we got to look for a new car. You know?
-
Oh man, we're going to do this and that. And the Holy Spirit,
-
it was either the Holy Spirit or Stacey, I can't remember, sometimes they sound
-
the same, but the Holy Spirit said.
-
To me, you were up last night, maybe it was Stacey, you were up last night praying.
-
Six hours after the prayer is when that happened.
-
Six hours. I went to bed at three and I would come back from the gym at nine.
-
Six hours after that. The Holy Spirit woke me up to get out of bed to pray because
-
there was an attack that was coming against me the very next day,
-
six hours later.
-
And so he said, you got to get out the bed and you got to pray.
-
And what I didn't know was he he came together with me against that demonic attack.
-
That's what praying in the spirit does. And so I said, oh, my goodness.
-
You're right. I was up last night. She said, that's what we that's what you
-
were praying against. I said, wow.
-
I mean, here we are at this point, a son, right?
-
A father, a husband, a pastor. The enemy wanted to take me out.
-
But when you pray in the spirit, what I'm talking about to you today is life and death.
-
I wish I can give you a Happy Meal message and get you going.
-
And you don't even know what I talked about when I left. And, oh, we had church today.
-
Boy, he preached. What did he talk about? I have no idea what he talked about. No, no, no, no, no.
-
I want you to know life and death.
-
You're going to have to pray in the tongues because there's an enemy that is
-
plotting against you at all times.
-
And you're going to cross over and speak in a language that he doesn't even understand.
-
He doesn't even know. And here we are coming in together, my spirit,
-
the Holy Spirit against that attack and praise God I'm here today.
-
Amen. Only one person happy I'm here today. Okay.
-
I know you're happy. I'm here today. Why? I believe praying in the spirit.
-
You're going to have to go deeper in your relationship. Stop trying to understand everything.
-
Stop trying to figure everything out. Stop trying to know everything.
-
And yield. In order for you to have peace that passes understanding,
-
you're going to have to give up your right to understand.
-
Think about that. In order to have peace that passes all understanding,
-
You're going to have to give up your right To understand.
-
Why are they doing that? I don't understand it But I got to operate in this
-
peace that passes understanding I can't believe my family's acting like that Why?
-
I don't know, but I've got to cross over Into this peace that passes All understanding,
-
and I'm going to have to Pray in the spirit,
-
Say this, close your eyes, say this, I will pray in the Spirit.
-
It's urgent. It's necessary that you pray in the Spirit.
-
And I challenged you a couple weeks ago, maybe it was a midweek boost, take two minutes today.
-
I mean, that's short. That's just to get you started.
-
And just pray in the Spirit, in tongues. Pray in a language that you understand.
-
Well, Pastor, it seems odd. It seems weird. It seems ridiculous.
-
Yeah, I agree. It does but cross over anyway Yield your members to them and
-
just begin to pray If you don't pray in the spirit and you are a believer My
-
question for you is why not?
-
Why do you not pray in the Spirit? Because I have biblical evidence that believers can pray in the Spirit.
-
They can pray in new tongues. Let's look at my last verse.
-
What is it? Luke chapter 11. We're going to read verse 9. Watch this. My last verse.
Luke 11 chapter mention
-
Zayven, you can help me. So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you.
-
Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you.
-
For everyone who asks receives And he who seeks finds And to him who knocks
-
it will be opened If a son asks for a bread from any father among you Will he give him a stone?
-
That's a terrible father Or if he asks for a fish Will he give him a serpent instead of a fish?
-
Terrible Or if he asks for an egg Will he offer him a scorpion? No.
-
If you then being evil know how to give good gifts to your children,
-
how much more will your heavenly father give the Holy Spirit to those that ask him?
-
Praying in the spirit is simply.
-
The Holy Spirit and your spirit communicating you start.
-
He helps you cannot pray in the spirit without the Holy Spirit.
-
Can't pray in the Spirit without the Holy Spirit. So why don't you ask for him today?
-
Stand to your feet.
-
Close your eyes and just lift up your hands. And I want you to just say this after me.
-
Father God, send me the Holy Spirit.
-
I receive the Holy Spirit today. Right now, I can pray in the Spirit and bypass my understanding.
-
This is how you experience true life.
