  1. In the name of the glorious Trinity, Father and Son and Holy

  2. Spirit forever. Amen.

  3. Glory be to the everlasting mercies which sent you to us, O

  4. Christ, the light of the world and the life of all.

  5. Give us. Wisdom by your law and enlighten

  6. our impulses by your knowledge. Sanctify our souls by your

  7. truth, and grant that we may be obedient to Your.

  8. Words. And may fulfill your

  9. commandments at every hour. O you.

  10. Who enlightens the rationale with the knowledge of your

  11. greatness? Do enlight, O my Lord, our

  12. thoughts that we may meditate upon your holy and divine

  13. scriptures at all times, O Lord of all Father and Son.

  14. And Holy Spirit forever. Amen.

  15. Six days remaining to the end of our fast and for the.

  16. Celebration of the. Crown of the Feasts, the holy

  17. feast of the resurrection of our Lord from amongst the dead.

  18. Those who have neglected this great fast, it's never too late.

  19. Do it for these last remaining days.

  20. Last remaining 6 days now. Often times when I would prepare

  21. the congregation of the faithful for the Great fast, that is on

  22. the Sunday entering the Great Lent or the Great Fast.

  23. I would somewhat discount the nitty gritty aspects which

  24. people would harp on or cling to pertaining to food.

  25. Stressing and emphasizing that we need to be extra cautious and

  26. alert when examining food products for fasting.

  27. For example, reading the ingredients for each food broad

  28. product to avoid any milk contents, any traces of cheese

  29. or any dairy, etcetera, etcetera.

  30. After all, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, praise me to His

  31. name, teaches that it is not what goes into a man that

  32. defiles men or defiles him, but rather what comes out in Matthew

    Matthew 15 chapter mention

  33. chapter 15. However, however, today on this

  34. podcast, in this episode, I would like to call myself out on

  35. this and claim that I stand myself corrected after diligent

  36. examination into the ACT of scrutinizing food products and

  37. the deep intent behind it all. Why should we be extra cautious

  38. now? I know it's not about food.

  39. I know it's about depriving yourself from the pleasures of

  40. the flesh and stopping from sinning.

  41. But why should we be extra cautious when it comes to food

  42. products? Well, since fasting is a process

  43. of disciplining and subduing the body and its desires, that is

  44. its evil desires and weaknesses, which are the target, the target

  45. that Satan aims, his trickery and temptations, we must go

  46. hard. We must go all out, and we must

  47. go all the way. You see, when we are reminded in

  48. the Holy Scriptures that Christ our Lord, our God our king, our

  49. life giver and the forgiver of our sins, who had not known sin,

  50. made himself to become sin in our place, that we would become

  51. the righteousness of God in him. Second Corinthians chapter 5

    2 Corinthians 5:2

  52. verse 2. Paraphrase when we are convicted

  53. if there is any such reaction these days, but giving it the

  54. benefit of the doubt. When we are convicted by the

  55. fact that Christ our Lord our King, our God our life giver and

  56. the forgiver, our sins, stripped himself and took the form of a

  57. servant and was in the form of the children of men, and was

  58. found in fashion as a man, and he humbled himself and was

  59. obedient unto death, even the death of being crucified.

  60. Philippians chapter 2 verses 7 to 8 again for our sakes.

    Philippians 2:7–8

  61. And St. Theodore of Absustia, one of the

  62. church fathers, comments on this and says by emptying by the word

  63. emptying, the Holy Scripture signifies becoming of no

  64. account. Just as in Corinthians, Paul

  65. speaks of faith as if it has been made of no account or

  66. emptied of significance if Christ be not raised. 1

  67. Corinthians 1514 When we recall God's commandment to Adam in

  68. Genesis chapter 2 verses 16 to 17 in the Garden of Eden, saying

    Genesis 2:16–17

  69. to him from all the trees that in paradise you shall eat from

  70. the true of knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat from

  71. it because in the day that you will eat from it, you will die

  72. the death. And this was in order to keep a

  73. relationship of love and obedience with God.

  74. How about Romans chapter 8, verse 32, when it's rebuking us

    Romans 8:32

  75. with the fact that God did not show pity upon his son, but he

  76. handed him over for the sake of all of us.

  77. This is for us to reinstate us to one more time, justify us and

  78. make us right, bring us into the righteousness of God.

  79. You see, from these verses, beloved, we learn and are woken

  80. up to the fact that the holiness to which you and I have been

  81. called is not something to be taken lightly and carelessly,

  82. but rather seriously in every way, in every shape and form,

  83. including the scrutinizing of our food products during Lent,

  84. which is again subduing the body.

  85. We must accept that what God the Father did and continues to do

  86. through God the Son, by God the Holy Spirit, by the power of God

  87. the Holy Spirit was to and is to bring us and to keep us in

  88. righteousness away from sin and separation from God.

  89. Go back and re listen to those verses and read them again.

  90. When we during the period of fasting are serious and nitty

  91. grit at the food aspects of our Lent, we are portraying

  92. seriousness about the subjection of the body and its deprivation

  93. from all its desires and pleasures.

  94. You see, we subdue the body to stir up the soul, to lust, to

  95. yearn for the Lord in the night and the Spirit within us to rise

  96. to His presence. According to Isaiah chapter 26,

    Isaiah 26:9

  97. verse 9. How?

  98. By praying, fasting, reading the Holy Scriptures, attending

  99. Church, if we are serious and nitpick in every aspect of our

  100. flesh which will return to thus how much more than an extra

  101. serious and intense will we be in every aspect of our

  102. spirituality and relationship with God?

  103. Now this all can be summed up in three very significance

  104. significant points. Why do the above?

  105. Why go to that discream? And again, the disc disclaimer

  106. is it's not only about food. I understand, but we're talking

  107. about how important the food factor is because many people

  108. have their own philosophies. When fasting, I'm going to not

  109. drink Coke. Oh wow, excellent.

  110. Not drink Coke. But I'll have my fish and I'll

  111. have my in and out and I'll have my burgers.

  112. Why? Because the flesh wants that.

  113. Well, what type of a fast is that?

  114. Are you subduing the flesh? This all can be summed up in

  115. three very significant points. Why we do this is because of

  116. motive, intent, and purpose. The Holy Scriptures are precise

  117. and clear that in all that we do, the motive should be to draw

  118. near to God. The intent should be to please

  119. God and the purpose should be to glorify God.

  120. So let's apply what we've been discussing about our fast, the

  121. nitty gritty details of our fast and mostly the food aspects.

  122. Let's apply this number 1.1. Our motive in examining in depth

  123. the ingredients of the food we consume during fasting, amongst

  124. many other things which go without saying, should be to

  125. draw us. Need to God.

  126. Now you may say, how is that going to draw me new to God,

  127. Rabi, when I pick up a a packet of chips and I'm reading the

  128. ingredients to be cautious as to what I'm going to consume

  129. because right now I'm fasting, I'm depriving my body.

  130. How does that work then? Well, by being serious about

  131. subduing our bodies to the Max, to provoke our soul to

  132. spirituality by which and through which we can worship

  133. God, according to John chapter 4, verse 24, This draws us

    John 4:24

  134. closer to the desire and the will of God #2.

  135. Our intent behind examining deeply the ingredients of the

  136. foods we consume during fasting should be to please God.

  137. How does that please God? By being serious about subduing

  138. our bodies to the Max, To provoke to stir up our soul to

  139. spirituality, because of the righteousness of our commitment

  140. level, at which God looks upon favorably and to which He will

  141. say, well done, good and faithful servant, Matthew 2523.

  142. We are then pleasing to God. Why?

  143. Because these words of well done good and faithful servant

  144. express satisfaction from our Lord when we go all the way.

  145. Yes, when we do examine every food that we are going to

  146. consume during Lent, and lastly, our purpose in examining in

  147. depth the ingredients of the foods we consume during fasting

  148. should be to glorify God as we have ascertained.

  149. And if you ask how? Well, simply, when we fulfil

  150. points one and two, we express and affirm the seriousness of

  151. our concern towards our sinful nature and state, which sees us

  152. deprived of the glory of God. Because as it stands and as

  153. sinners we do not have our own glory and we surely lack

  154. ascribing genuine glory to God. However, when we mourn and feel

  155. sorrow for our sins and separation from God due to the

  156. overwhelming empowerment of our fleshly desires and cry out, oh

  157. Lord have mercy upon us sinners. God will be glorified by our

  158. deeds which go to extremes. Beloved, again, we're talking

  159. about examining the fruit products or depriving ourselves

  160. from how many of our social aspects God will be glorified.

  161. And that glory is our reply to God's gift of fasting to

  162. overcome and to defeat Satan and sincerely worship him.

  163. Our God and him we serve alone. So if you have been a little

  164. laxed and complacent regarding the food aspects and elements of

  165. fasting, because it's not about food or if it's not about food,

  166. well why are we then abstaining from non fast food?

  167. Why are we going total vegan? Well it is about food because

  168. Christ fasted, God said to Adam do not eat.

  169. Moses fasted for 40 days and 40 nights before he received the

  170. commands. So it is about food.

  171. So if you've been a little relaxed and complacent regarding

  172. the food aspects and elements of fasting, do it this week and you

  173. will see that though the body is weak, yet the Spirit is ready to

  174. draw NI to God, to appease God, and to glorify God.

  175. I know, I know, I know. Again, I know that fasting is

  176. not merely going all out vegan. It's not merely about that, but

  177. going all out vegan is a starting point.

  178. To show remorse and discipline again.

  179. To draw near to, to appease and to glorify God to whom be

  180. praise, glory and honor, now and at all times and forever.

  181. Amen. We hope you enjoyed this week's

  182. message. Please don't forget to rate and
