  1. In the name of the glorious Trinity, Father and Son and Holy

  2. Spirit forever. Amen.

  3. Glory be to the. Everlasting mercies which?

  4. Sent you to us, O Christ, the light of the world and the life

  5. of all. Give us wisdom by your law and

  6. enlighten our impulses by your knowledge.

  7. Sanctify our souls by your truth, and grant that we may be

  8. obedient to your words and may fulfill your commandments at

  9. every hour. O you who?

  10. Enlightens the rationale with the knowledge of your greatness.

  11. Do enlight, O my Lord, our thoughts that we may meditate

  12. upon your holy and divine scriptures at all times, O Lord

  13. of all Father and Son and Holy Spirit.

  14. Forever. Amen.

  15. sometimes feel that when we speak about suffering,

  16. persecutions and death, the message may come across somehow

  17. a little confusing and maybe even non realistic.

  18. Although sufferings, persecutions and death are to be

  19. tolerated as an element of faith in our Lord God, Jesus Christ,

  20. in this most wicked and twisted world, it is by no means

  21. justified in its essence. We are not to entice suffering

  22. and persecutions. We are not to provoke them.

  23. Let's look at suffering and persecution.

  24. I pose you to this question. Do you think that God had in his

  25. plans, in His perfect kind, loving holy will and in His

  26. perfect purpose the idea and prospect of pain and suffering

  27. and persecution when he created all things visible and

  28. invisible? Do you think Genesis chapter one

  29. verse 31 doesn't indicate that we read and God created of

  30. heaven and earth and all that we see and don't see, tangible and

  31. non tangible. God saw everything that he had

  32. made, everything that he had made, and behold it was good and

  33. pleasing. Good according to the standards

  34. standards of our perfect God and pleasing in the eyes of God.

  35. Do you think in the goodness and pleasure of God there was an

  36. element, an intention of suffering and persecutions?

  37. For His creation? Wasn't God's act of creation an

  38. act of love in the 1st place? That in His power and wisdom He

  39. created the universe and all that is in there to share that

  40. love with us and with His creation?

  41. After all, in the first Epistle of St.

  42. Paul to the. Corinthians, the Church.

  43. In Corinth, chapter 6, verse 13, it is said that love rejoices

  44. not in evil, and yet suffering and persecutions are evil.

  45. So suffering and persecutions are not to be justified, though

  46. tolerated, persevered, and accepted joyfully for Christ's

  47. sake. Some people question that as

  48. well. Why?

  49. Why does Christ want me to suffer?

  50. And why does Christ want me to be persecuted?

  51. Well, it wasn't Christ that in the 1st place wanted you to

  52. suffer and be persecuted. To answer your question, let me

  53. give you this equation from where it all began.

  54. Once Upon a real time there was man who was created by God,

  55. disobeyed the God that created him, and this was sin against

  56. the God that created him. And that sin brought curse in

  57. the eyes of God that created him.

  58. And from that point suffering and persecution were born.

  59. So suffering and persecutions are a product of the fall, a

  60. consequence of human disobedience, which is sin

  61. against God the Creator. Suffering and persecutions are

  62. not to be justified, as I said, though tolerated and accepted

  63. and persevered joyfully for Christ's Christ's sakes.

  64. Why? Because Christ suffered so that

  65. our suffering will not be in vain.

  66. So we dropped the ball in the 1st place.

  67. Our race, our kind dropped the ball in the 1st place.

  68. Through that suffering and persecutions and death that

  69. we're talking about sufferings and persecutions, we'll cover

  70. death. Soon we're.

  71. Introduced, We're born. Christ, then, this is the glory,

  72. the love, the grace and mercy of Jesus, our Lord God, which

  73. you'll find in no other person living on the face of this

  74. earth, no other religious leader living on the face of this

  75. earth. Beloved, they did not suffer for

  76. mankind, and even if they did, it was to no veil.

  77. There was it was it was invalid. It didn't bring you and I any,

  78. any grace, any mercy, any fruits.

  79. Christ suffered so that our suffering will not be in vain.

  80. That's why, excuse me, the suffering and persecutions that

  81. we introduced in the world because of our disobedience we

  82. need to tolerate and accept and persevere in joyfully is because

  83. Christ through his suffering made our suffering not to be in

  84. vain. In His first letter.

  85. Saint Peter Simon the Rock writes chapter 3 verses 17 to

  86. 18. For it is profitable to you, not

  87. for God, not for Jesus. Whether we suffer or not, Christ

  88. is glorified, God is Almighty. Praise be to His name, for it is

  89. profitable to you that you suffer evil while you do good

  90. deeds, not suffering, because you provoke.

  91. You entice, and you brought it upon yourself because of evil

  92. and sin, no suffering while you do good deeds, if this should be

  93. the pleasure of God. So if God allows you to suffer

  94. and to be persecuted, not because it was in His plan, but

  95. because of your free will, our free will, the free will of

  96. mankind, suffering and persecutions entered, I have to

  97. continue to reiterate, because we point the finger at God

  98. pointed back to yourself, there's a three fingers pointing

  99. at yourself. So now that suffering and

  100. persecutions are in the world, and God through His pleasure

  101. allows you to go through those sufferings and persecutions.

  102. It's because it will not be in vain, because Christ suffered

  103. for us when we do good. That is by the way, and not

  104. while you do evil deeds. For the Messiah also once died

  105. for our sins, the righteous for sinners that he might bring you

  106. to God and he died in body but lived in spirit.

  107. So our sufferings and persecutions caused by our free

  108. will to disobey God are fruitful for you and I beloved.

  109. That's why we need to tolerate and persevere but not justify

  110. and say it's OK God gave us suffering.

  111. You know we say in Assyrian this is the 4th time I'm mentioning

  112. this. I've mentioned it in a in a

  113. funeral sermon and what have you.

  114. We say Allah, Allah. God has given us illness and

  115. sicknesses and he also has given us the remedies.

  116. God did not give illness and sicknesses.

  117. No, we did. We brought it upon ourselves.

  118. But God was there to grant us the remedies, beloved.

  119. It was because of our disobedience.

  120. So let's not be LAX and complacent when it comes to

  121. suffering and persecutions. In actual fact, we need to do

  122. one thing that is, learn from it a very important lesson, and

  123. that is the severity, the danger and destruction of sin, that is

  124. disobedience to God. Our God is not the cause, nor

  125. did he bring to effect, nor was he the playwriter of sickness,

  126. diseases, and sufferings and persecutions in general, but

  127. rather the provider of remedies. Praise be to his name.

  128. So as we don't wish sufferings and persecutions and pain upon

  129. others, so too we don't pray for suffering and pain and

  130. persecutions for ourselves. We pray.

  131. And the Lord taught us to pray. Deliver us from evil.

  132. Not please, allow us to go through persecutions.

  133. Oh please. I want to provoke and entice

  134. persecution upon myself so that it is profitable, so that it is

  135. not. No, no, we don't ask for that.

  136. Jesus has taught us to deliver us from sin.

  137. You see, let me give you an example.

  138. I have a dog, Thor. I call him Torah, which is.

  139. Equivalent to. The Assyrian Thor.

  140. Now when he goes out in the in the backyard when he's LED

  141. outside, he has this territorial issue.

  142. I think he, he, he, he. The message he gives is when I'm

  143. outside no other neighbors are to come out in the backyards

  144. because he'll start barking and barking.

  145. That's what dogs do, right? But he goes on, I don't like

  146. that. So that's his nature.

  147. Now someone said oh he's being protective because he wants to

  148. protect you bro. As they say, I'm not outside,

  149. I'm in the house. I'm even protected by my house.

  150. He just likes barking. OK, that's his nature, that dogs

  151. bark. I've never heard of a dog meow.

  152. I've never heard of a dog chirp. But there are times when I

  153. approach Larissa, my daughter, pretending that I want to strike

  154. her. He'll bark and then I say my

  155. wife will say, well, you provoked him to do it.

  156. Don't do that. You know, she doesn't say.

  157. She says it in love. You know that he barks.

  158. So what are you doing that? So it's the same.

  159. Let's not provoke, entice and wish suffering and persecution

  160. about it upon ourselves. No, but when they do come in

  161. this wicked world, they are bound to come.

  162. We must tolerate and accept and receive them.

  163. It's like considering and saying, well, it's my fault,

  164. It's my racist fault. Now As for death, God didn't

  165. create us and breathed the breath of life in our nostrils

  166. so that he would one day put us to death.

  167. That would be first degree murder wouldn't it?

  168. Premeditated right? Or God didn't do that?

  169. Praise his name in Romans chapter 5, verse 12.

    Romans 5:12

  170. As by means of one man, sin which was an extension of

  171. disobedience to God, sin entered into the world, and by means of

  172. sin, death, we brought death into the world.

  173. And so death passed upon all the sons of men, inasmuch as they

  174. all have sinned. We don't wish death upon

  175. ourselves. Yes, we we confidently and you

  176. know, being encouraged of the resurrection, we say, oh, I wish

  177. I could go now and be with my Lord.

  178. But just by saying that, beloved, we are not saying that

  179. death is justified. No, it was not an act of God.

  180. It was the misuse of the free will of man that brought sin and

  181. sin brought death into the world.

  182. But we tolerated, we accepted, we persevered.

  183. And we'll talk about that. Why?

  184. So who then is the murderer? Beloved, Now the crime is sin.

  185. But who enticed the sin and became an accessory?

  186. It was Satan. So it's the doing of Satan and

  187. also the dropping of the ball. They're letting down the guard

  188. of mankind that sin entered through sin, sufferings,

  189. persecutions and death. Jesus says to the Jews in John

    John 8:44

  190. chapter 8, verse 44, You are of your father, the liar and the

  191. lust of your father You are disposed to do he was from the

  192. beginning and Manslayer A Manslayer A manslaughterer, an

  193. abode, Not in the truth, for the truth is not in him.

  194. And when he speaks a lie, he speaks from himself, for he is a

  195. liar and the father of it. He's talking about Satan.

  196. How can God, beloved, who does not desire the death of a

  197. Sinner, but that he would return from his evil way and he will

  198. live? According to Ezekiel chapter 18

    Ezekiel 18:23

  199. verse 23 be blamed for murder and wants us to justify death.

  200. That's what we imply ignorantly when we state that God caused

  201. death, suffering and persecution henceforth.

  202. That's why we have to prey it upon us and and provoke it so

  203. that it can't may come on upon us.

  204. For example, suffering. You can't go to a place.

  205. You go somewhere with the intention that I'm going to go

  206. there so that I can suffer, so that I can I can experience

  207. suffering. No, you cannot put yourself into

  208. situations where you will be persecuted.

  209. It's my will that I go to this place to be persecuted.

  210. No, you cannot take on your life, your own life.

  211. Suicide. You can't do that because, oh,

  212. death is great. I'm going to go to God.

  213. No, but we accept those. We tolerate them, and we

  214. persevere in them. Beloved, beloved, Death is a

  215. thief, an enemy. According to One Corinthians

  216. chapter 15, verse 26, Actually the last enemy which will be

  217. abolished. Can we at any time justify a

  218. thief pronounced he or she? We may be affected, we may

  219. suffer, we may be inconvenienced by his or her theft.

  220. However, we cannot justify his or her deeds, can we?

  221. We're affected by it because theft is destructive.

  222. But as with a thief, and This is why we need to tolerate as with

  223. a thief and his or her theft, we are protected by one thing, our

  224. insurance policy right to be compensated or have our property

  225. reinstated. So too.

  226. Beloved with suffering and persecutions, we are assured

  227. this is our insurance policy. From Christ himself we are

  228. assured comfort and healing by Christ's promises and the

  229. Scripture relief and Christ's suffering itself.

  230. In Matthew Chapter 11 verse 28, Jesus invites Jesus is inviting

    Matthew 11:28

  231. you. Stop cooking.

  232. Stop vacuuming. Give or get off the the

  233. keyboard. Pull to one side and listen to

  234. this. Please listen to this.

  235. Don't just shake your head and maybe even praise God.

  236. Listen to this. This is an invitation.

  237. Come on to me, all of you who labor and are forced to bear

  238. burdens and I shall give you rest.

  239. Where did labor and burdens come from?

  240. It was the produce of the disobedience of man, our

  241. disobedience. And yet God is extending this

  242. invitation. Come to me in the Second Epistle

  243. of Saint Paul to Timothy, chapter 2, verse 12, we read And

  244. if we suffer, we shall also reign with him.

  245. But if we renounce him, we will also he will also renounce us.

  246. That's why we tolerate, we accept, and we, Sir, persevere

  247. because the suffering that we brought upon ourselves and

  248. Christ pay the debt, that suffering that we are permitted

  249. to go through. Now look at what it ends up in

  250. reigning with Jesus Christ. Praise be to his name.

  251. Now As for death, we have the insurance, the assurance, the

  252. promise of the resurrection from the dead.

  253. We have the participation in the resurrection of Christ.

  254. We are candidates of the resurrection of Christ from the

  255. time of our rebirth in the waters of baptism.

  256. That's why we tolerate, but we do not provoke and entice

  257. suffering and persecution and death upon ourselves.

  258. But we tolerate according to God's perfect plan, perfect

  259. will, when He allows us to go through that in Romans chapter

    Romans 6 chapter mention

  260. 6, verses four and five, worried.

  261. For we are buried with him in baptism unto death, that as

  262. Jesus the Messiah, arose from the dead into the glory of his

  263. Father, so also we to walk in a new life.

  264. For if we have been planted together with Him into the

  265. likeness of his death, so shall we also into his resurrection be

  266. in John chapter 6, verse 40, when Jesus is talking about

    John 6:40

  267. himself being the bread of life. That bread we celebrate Christ

  268. with every time we break it at the altar.

  269. Yes, the Korabana Kadisha, the Holy Eucharist.

  270. Look at what Jesus is saying, for this is the will of my

  271. Father. Everyone who sees the Son and

  272. trust in him shall have eternal life.

  273. And I shall raise him in the last day, Resurrection.

  274. This is a promise of resurrection.

  275. So you see, beloved, we are not called to justify, to provoke,

  276. to entice, and OK suffering and persecution and death, which

  277. were not good and pleasing to God when creating the world.

  278. But because of the fallen and corrupted state of man, we are

  279. now tolerant, accepting, and persevering.

  280. Why? Because of the remedies and

  281. promises of the Christ. Yes, the Christ, the Son of the

  282. one true God. To him be glory, honor,

  283. Thanksgiving, and worship, now and at all times and forever.

  284. Amen. We hope you enjoyed this week's
