  2. Spirit, forever Amen. Glory be to the everlasting

  3. mercies which sent you to us. O Christ, the light of the world

  4. and the life of all. Give us wisdom by Your law and

  5. enlighten our impulses by Your knowledge.

  6. Sanctify our souls by Your truth and grant that we may be

  7. obedient to Your words and may fulfill Your commandments at

  8. every hour. O You who enlightens the

  9. rationale with the knowledge of Your greatness, do enlight, O my

  10. Lord, our thoughts, that we may meditate upon Your holy and

  11. divine Scriptures at all times. O Lord of all, Father and Son

  12. and Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.

  13. A heartfelt thank you and gratitude to all our brothers

  14. and sisters, our beloved listeners, for their expression

  15. of joy and pleasure in the interview that was arranged and

  16. conducted with our beloved patriarch.

  17. He's holding a smart hour, the third Catholicos patriarch.

  18. A great thank you to our producers who put that interview

  19. together. And I know that many of you

  20. liked it and you've shared it and you've loved it and many

  21. comments. Great feedback and thank you and

  22. God bless you. We like when we hear from you

  23. and when we you know, we get your feedback so that we can

  24. only better this program, these episodes and only for one reason

  25. 1 focal focal purpose, which is for the glory of God and the

  26. salvation of our souls. Today we are blessed one more

  27. time with the interview that we're going to conduct with our

  28. two beloved brothers and sisters very well known within the youth

  29. community of the same Church of the East North America, all the

  30. diocese. The names will not be strange to

  31. you. And we are recording currently

  32. at the 36th Annual Youth Conference of the Ascent Church

  33. of the East, North America. And we the producers saw that it

  34. was a great opportunity to speak with these lovely people and to

  35. get to know them, to get to hear their beautiful voices.

  36. We've, we've done 35,000 sound checks.

  37. So it's great and to ask them questions.

  38. And I believe and I pray that I will ask the questions that are

  39. on your minds, minds and on your heart.

  40. My beloved newly ordained one week, one week ago.

  41. Well, this will be Monday. So my one week or two weeks ago,

  42. newly ordained priest, my beloved brother, Rabbi Kasha

  43. Roman Father Andrew Aziz. Rabbi, welcome.

  44. Rabbi Kasha, thank you very much for the kind and warm welcoming.

  45. It's my honor and joy, and I'm very humbled to be on this

  46. podcast for the second time. I believe it was last year at

  47. the 35th Conference in Sacramento that I was also

  48. blessed to be on the podcast with you as we discussed last

  49. year's theme and the overall conference.

  50. So it's it's my joy and pleasure to be with you again.

  51. So you've been on the episode before?

  52. I have. Oh.

  53. So this is not new. No, no, no.

  54. OK. Well, this changes the mood now.

  55. Now. Yeah.

  56. And also our beloved first lady, my sister Ninva Aziz.

  57. Misses Ninve Aziz. Welcome, Khati.

  58. I know the first time on episode.

  59. We'll be. We'll be gentle with you.

  60. We'll be kind with you. Thank you, Ravi.

  61. Yeah, my first time on the podcast.

  62. I heard you were very, very excited to be on the podcast.

  63. Very excited. Yeah, a little nervous, but I'm

  64. excited. Next, and I'll give you the $100

  65. afterwards. OK, let's get straight into it.

  66. Rabbi Kasha Aziza. Rabbi Kasha means teacher,

  67. priest, beloved Rabbi Kasha, the 36th annual conference, the

  68. youth conference hosted by the Diocese of Western USA and in

  69. the city of Irvine in California.

  70. You both are very much involved. Please give me a rundown of the

  71. conference and the preparations and where we are at at the

  72. moment. This is we're recording on

  73. Saturday. Sunday.

  74. Oh, this is Sunday, today is Sunday, today is Sunday.

  75. I'm sorry. So yes, we had the Holy

  76. Eucharist and the party's going on downstairs, right?

  77. And we're here, we are talking to each other every conducting

  78. interview. Steven, timing.

  79. You got to look at timing. So yes, just a rundown on the

  80. conference thus far, please. Yeah.

  81. So I want to take it back to the first thing you just mentioned,

  82. the 36th annual. This is something that is

  83. really, really an amazing effort by the entire Church of the

  84. East. That's something that we see the

  85. fruits of the, the, the the conference had a do.

  86. There was a today, there was an ordination of some of the youth

  87. deacons that belong to one of our parishes in in the diocese

  88. from Saint Mary's and two youth members were ordained to one was

  89. elector, one was a sub Deacon. And as I was in the altar, I

  90. looked down and there was about 14 other sub deacons from across

  91. the across the other diocese. And that shows the fruitful acts

  92. that we see from, from the, from the conference itself.

  93. I think it has, it's played a, it's played a vital role in its

  94. development and the nurturing, the spiritual nurturing that we

  95. see from our, our young brothers, primarily those that

  96. are receiving the, the ranks in the church.

  97. And then also from, from those that aren't receiving ranks.

  98. And then from, from our beloved sisters as well.

  99. That, that we see their, their zeal, their, their passion for

  100. their church, for their, for their Lord and, and for serving,

  101. wanting to serve in the church and, and we see their constant,

  102. you know, participation in all of the, in all of the

  103. conferences and, and they're in the back in their parishes as

  104. well. So we look back when we began

  105. planning this conference about a year and a half ago, two years

  106. ago, when, when we knew it was in the diocese.

  107. Archdeacon, you at the at the moment, at the time he was core

  108. Bishop and you know, he he elected, he selected me to be

  109. the chairman of the conference and my wife and then why we've

  110. we've worked well together in our parish with with the youth

  111. community and you know, she was able to help me form a

  112. subcommittee of conference planning and and for about a

  113. year and a half, we've been all in constant communication.

  114. One thing about our diocese is that we're spread across four

  115. different states, California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas.

  116. But thankfully for technology, we've been able to work together

  117. and simultaneously really put our minds and efforts together

  118. to bring this conference to fruition.

  119. So today, like you mentioned this Sunday, we began our our

  120. conferences obviously on the first day with with the

  121. welcoming. But to take a step back, we're

  122. looking at the theme, the theme of this year that was selected

  123. by the NEC, the National Executive Committee.

  124. On which rabbit Asha is the secretary?

  125. Yes, yes, I, yes, I am. And the theme was Thy will be

  126. done from our Lord's Prayer in Matthew chapter 6, how it was

    Matthew 6 chapter mention

  127. like we say that will be done. And the lectures gave, I think,

  128. amazing lectures on the Friday and Saturday of the conference.

  129. And we've been receiving very, very positive feedback from all

  130. 680 attendees. That was also a record-breaking

  131. number that we've had at this conference.

  132. So just just the very basic structure that we that we are so

  133. used to now with this conferences.

  134. But it's always refreshing and, and such a beautiful sight to

  135. see all of the new faces and, and the old faces that we see

  136. them grow that every, you know, year by year that passes their

  137. own spiritual development and, and we know the work, we see the

  138. work that they do in their own parishes.

  139. So it's something that's very positive and and very

  140. encouraging to see everybody coming together and, and, and

  141. enjoying the conference itself. So Friday, Saturday we had our

  142. own programs. Friday we had the dinner with

  143. with our patriarch, His Holiness Marawa the 3rd and Saturday we

  144. had classes. We had a sports picnic that went

  145. very very well. It was the best one.

  146. It was the best one. Why?

  147. No dancing, no music, no, it was the best.

  148. But you know, His Grace Marpolis was complaining.

  149. He said he was cut Jack music. I said no, Jesse, don't even go

  150. there. They had fun and the the the

  151. sports competition, the volleyball competition, AZ and

  152. LA right. Yeah, it was getting heated

  153. sometimes I was sort of walking away, but no, it was a great

  154. okay, congratulations that I'll be AZ one.

  155. Arizona one, we were very happy it was it was a.

  156. Dice lucky I wasn't playing it was.

  157. We would have lost the the diocese competition was supposed

  158. to be the volleyball tournament between the diocese, but we had

  159. so many of our members that that wanted to participate.

  160. So we were able to open it to almost every parish was was able

  161. to put together some teams. So we had a, we had eight teams

  162. participating and, and that that tournament turned out to be very

  163. successful. And that that adds, I think a

  164. fellowship factor that, you know, although we have the

  165. spiritual aspect of the conference, but you know, the

  166. volleyball, the fellowship time, it builds those bonds that that

  167. that last, those are memories that last forever for those for

  168. those young. Men, we had some injuries as

  169. well, right? I don't don't get me started.

  170. I think we, we did have a few, but it was, thank God it was

  171. okay. Everybody was fine.

  172. The great thing about the conference is the new

  173. friendships that are made and you know when they go back home,

  174. they're constantly talking and keeping in contact with one

  175. another until the following year.

  176. Misses as misses. Robbie Pasha Aziz.

  177. I know Robbie mentioned that you were by his side and helping

  178. out. Did you guys ever not see eye to

  179. eye on any points or was that all done behind the scenes?

  180. Never publicly. But there you go.

  181. Yeah. What was your involvement?

  182. Just. Honestly, Robbie, everything

  183. that Robbie Asha does, I always somehow end up getting involved

  184. in it. Whether by default?

  185. Yeah, by default, but whether he wants me or not, my opinions

  186. come up and he accepts most of them.

  187. So the process was, you know, we just jumped into it and as he

  188. continued doing things, we did start planning about what was it

  189. two years ago. About a year and a.

  190. Half ago, a year and a half ago, at first, I wasn't as involved.

  191. I was busy with my own things at the time.

  192. And then as we got closer, I started to step in and help out

  193. through the subcommittee's and all the director positions.

  194. And I think, you know, for the most part, everything went

  195. smoothly. We do pretty good as a team.

  196. You've made it this far. There's always going to be

  197. shortfalls and issues. I mean, hosting 680 young men

  198. and women already away from their parents, from their homes,

  199. in their hotels room. We always have issues.

  200. But considering the great amount I, I'm, I'm hearing great

  201. positive feedback and we'll wait till, I mean, we're going to

  202. have that survey obviously and we'll wait till see after the

  203. conclusion what is the final feedback that we're saying.

  204. I'm sure it's going to be positive.

  205. I'm sure it's going to be. God willing, God willing, we've

  206. been hearing a lot of positivity.

  207. Obviously, like you said, you can't fulfill everybody's needs

  208. in the especially with such a large group.

  209. But one thing about Nenua I wanted to add, she didn't

  210. mention was with with regards to her involvement.

  211. I'm not very tech savvy. So when when things get brought

  212. up for me to do a design or any sort of, you know,

  213. organizational thing on that's not my expertise.

  214. So. When?

  215. When she, when she, when she sees that I'm, you know, sort of

  216. struggling or falling behind, she's done an amazing job at,

  217. like you said, of, of, of being there for me and being there for

  218. the church. She's not really there for me.

  219. It's just I've been selected to be a chairperson or to kind of

  220. lead this group. But her among many others that

  221. were able to help. They did all of the work, as you

  222. know, like you just mentioned to my ordination was a week ago.

  223. And so I was very busy with, with regards to, you know, sort

  224. of doing the transition between my, my, my job in the past, my

  225. engineering job and then transitioning into preparations

  226. for the priesthood and the, the ordination.

  227. So really Ninoy and the rest of our directors were the ones

  228. working on this conference day-to-day.

  229. And I just kind of came in at the end and, you know, took.

  230. All the credits. Yeah, that's it, That's it.

  231. We say in a serum the workers work and those who are arrested

  232. eat from the fruits. Talking about tech savvy, my, my

  233. Indian support group, India support group is Steven and and

  234. and Robert Gluella, elector Robert, sometimes I call him,

  235. he's in Australia. Some of it's 3:00 in the

  236. morning. I'll call him Robert.

  237. Why can I not get into my so tech savvy man?

  238. We don't need it. I'll be and next year's

  239. conference is obviously was decided two years ago, oh, a

  240. year ago. Let's talk about that, Canada.

  241. Toronto, Canada. Yeah, for.

  242. The first time we'll be. Hosting internationally for our

  243. North American conference here. So I think it's gonna be a very

  244. fruitful 1. Yeah, and they're very, very

  245. excited. This is the second year that

  246. Canada is involved. I believe this is the third

  247. year, third year, third year that Canada is involved.

  248. There's a great number of youth that have attended this year's.

  249. You know, you have to, it's an international flight and they're

  250. very excited and always, there's always going to be help and

  251. we're always there to help them. And I'm very excited.

  252. And I think the youth are very excited too.

  253. So hopefully they'll host a great, a great conference and,

  254. and the years will go on and on and on.

  255. And one day we'll be one of those old people walk in and say

  256. I was a part of this. The first Canadian conference

  257. and. I wonder how the conference is

  258. going to be in 2036 or 202045, Right.

  259. Yeah, we'll be around, God willing, if not your children

  260. and my grandchildren. So.

  261. We'll be teaching them. I was one thing you, I I

  262. mentioned the other day when one of our breakout sessions was

  263. that my second conference, 2010, The slaps, the slaps.

  264. You were you were one of the priests.

  265. That was we everybody Father Gennard was notorious for.

  266. For the slaps, yeah, yeah, No, it was a loving slap.

  267. It was a loving slap just when we answered.

  268. Yeah, when? We answered.

  269. Correctly. And look where you are today.

  270. It must have been the slap. OK, let's go into the not the

  271. private life, but let's go and and ask a little bit about Rabbi

  272. Asha Andrew. And Mrs. Rabbi Asha Andrew, tell

  273. us a little bit about Father Andrew Aziz.

  274. My name is Andrew Aziz. No, I am.

  275. I'm 28 years old. I'll be soon to be 29.

  276. I was. Recently, every single day I was

  277. up until the final day of his birthday.

  278. I was I was recently ordained to the priesthood where I will be

  279. serving in the Diocese of Western United States primarily

  280. with the Youth Association as well as being an assistant to

  281. our parish priests in in Arizona which now we have 3 parishes.

  282. Mario Sep Nani Sugar Gilbert, AZ with Reverend Hoshaba Schleman,

  283. who is the parish priest, our cathedral in Glendale, AZ, Saint

  284. Peter's Cathedral with Reverend Sargon Yarrow as the parish

  285. priest. And we have a new mission parish

  286. in Surprise, AZ with Reverend Ninos Isaac, who was ordained

  287. with me as well. So I will be assisting those

  288. three pair, those three parish priests and, and, and their, you

  289. know, daily ecclesiastical life. And I and I look forward to it.

  290. It's it's a calling from, from God.

  291. It's a vocation that I felt the passion and I felt the calling

  292. with so many years, so many, so many times throughout the years

  293. where Reverend fathers like yourself have approached me with

  294. regards to, you know, taking that leap of faith and, and,

  295. and, and answering that calling. And I am blessed to have

  296. somebody that is by my side as, as the person sitting next to me

  297. is by allowing me to, to follow that vocation to, you know, as I

  298. mentioned earlier, I was, I was an engineer, a mechanical

  299. engineer for a semiconductor company.

  300. But when the calling grew and I felt the calling and, you know,

  301. I, one of the things that a lot of people were telling me was

  302. that, oh, you're young, you should wait.

  303. You know, Mukhmad, you said, why are you rushing into this?

  304. You know you can. You have so many years ahead of

  305. you. King David wasn't too old, was.

  306. He he was young. He was the youngest.

  307. One, he was the youngest one, yeah.

  308. And, and for me, it wasn't really about my age.

  309. I didn't feel like the age was really a factor into any of

  310. this. It was more of, you know, the

  311. calling is there and if I have somebody and then not just my

  312. wife, but my entire family was some was the people that were

  313. supporting me, but more so you need your wife's support in

  314. this. So she was able and and willing

  315. and, and just this passion, if not more so, to allow me to

  316. follow this. And, you know, she said, if we

  317. have the right circumstances and we have, you know, the, the

  318. right environment where, you know, you have the support from

  319. other priests and, and you have the support of the youth in the

  320. community, you know, this is something that you're willing to

  321. do. And, and, and if this is God's

  322. calling, God's going to guide you through it.

  323. God's going to guide us through it.

  324. So, you know, I, I, I was, I, I spoke with Archdeacon Giudgis,

  325. who is currently our patriarchal vicar in, in the diocese.

  326. And, you know, we, we spoke at length about the responsibility

  327. and, and what my role in the diocese is going to be.

  328. And after further prayer and, and meditation on the subject,

  329. I, I was, I was, you know, I, we were able to commit to it.

  330. How long did you serve as a Deacon?

  331. I was I was serving as a Deacon for 10 years, 2014 May of 2014 I

  332. was ordained and June of 2024 I was ordained a priest.

  333. And when did Madame Nineveh coming to play?

  334. And the has to be in the conference, right.

  335. Conference crush. Well, was it a conference crush?

  336. It was parish. It was a parish.

  337. Parish crush. Oh, OK, Yeah. 20 Would you want

  338. to answer this? Or do you want?

  339. To answer, I guess we can admit to it now.

  340. Yeah, so 2014, we were serving in the committee together.

  341. We were the. So myself, Nuet and I were very

  342. good brother, dear brother Marcel, we were the three sort

  343. of first committee members of our parishes youth group, OK and

  344. Ninoy was our vice or she was our secretary slash treasurer.

  345. Marcel was my vice president and.

  346. No. Secretary slash Treasurer slash

  347. parish crush, Yes. Yes, but so that that the

  348. working in the in the parish developed our relationship, I I

  349. noticed besides her, her beauty, but I noticed just her works and

  350. her zeal and her passion and all of these things.

  351. And I didn't look. Like this in 20?

  352. 14 so I don't know what he's talking.

  353. About we we built a great friendship.

  354. That's what it was first and and working together.

  355. So that that was what allowed us.

  356. We started going out, hanging out during those times and.

  357. We would have committee meetings and we would tell Marcel that,

  358. you know, we got it, don't worry about it.

  359. We'll take care of. It I would invite her out to

  360. coffee just for, you know, Starbucks.

  361. Don't call us, we'll call you. Master.

  362. Well, isn't it, you know, as it was speaking Bobby, God made Eve

  363. in one of the the doctrinal hymns we say Adam is lamenting

  364. because he was expelled from paradise in the garden of Edom

  365. and he's laments and he says she who was made to be a helper.

  366. Tane turned, turned and became a pusher and she brought

  367. destruction to me and my children.

  368. But you were in that Garden of Eden which is the church, and

  369. thank God that Nineveh became that helper.

  370. And little did you know back then, This is why God says my

  371. ways are not your ways, Your thoughts are not my faults.

  372. Or is it the other way around? Regardless, little did you know

  373. back then was that she would be your helper for this day and for

  374. the future. We don't know what God has

  375. installed, you know, But it's great because while you're

  376. focused on the Word of God, then God blesses you with this union

  377. and you know the attraction and what have you.

  378. None of it as a star being being with Ravi as a Shamasha.

  379. You were still studying by then and your your field is.

  380. Architecture graduated with my master's in architecture in

  381. 2022, the same year we got married.

  382. I graduated 10 days before our wedding, actually.

  383. Oh wow. Yeah, congratulate.

  384. When did you get married? Sorry.

  385. May 21st of 2022. I'm sorry I should have asked

  386. that. I'll be if you remembered.

  387. Yeah. I have it.

  388. No, I have it in my notes. So it's been May 25th.

  389. Oh, you have one Year 2? Years, OK.

  390. OK, so back then, obviously Shamasha more available to go

  391. out for coffee and what you're saying and you know, more time

  392. to spend together then this curveball, if we may say lack of

  393. a better term comes around and it the priesthood comes in then.

  394. And you know, I'm sure you're you're very smart and clever to

  395. know that. And being in the church, you

  396. know that that responsibility requires a lot of sacrifice.

  397. And, you know, being a priest, a married priest, actually being a

  398. grandfather, the sacrifice, you know, people say, oh, you've

  399. sacrificed your life for Christ. I mean, but I believe the

  400. sacrifice is greater on the partner or the wife.

  401. What was your first initial reaction thought when Shamasha

  402. Andrew back then came and said, honey, darling, whatever you

  403. call this is God is calling me to this.

  404. Honestly, Robbie, a lot of people, especially in the last

  405. few weeks have asked me about how I feel about all of this and

  406. what my initial reaction was and all that.

  407. And a lot of times it was hard for me to I, I always go, I

  408. don't know, like I still can't answer that.

  409. But initially when it was brought up, of course I'm human.

  410. I had the, I had the initial reaction of starting to worry

  411. and started to think about all the factors that were to come in

  412. the future. And at first I was very hesitant

  413. about it. And then, but I didn't reflect

  414. that on Shamasha at the time. I wouldn't, I wasn't very

  415. negative to him because I knew deep down that this is, this was

  416. always his calling and he's very passionate about it.

  417. And I know very well what it, what it's like to be passionate

  418. about something and how I feel living that as my career

  419. day-to-day and applying it to everything that I do.

  420. And I knew that was his passion. Engineering was never his

  421. passion. I think he did it just because

  422. he's, he, anything he puts his mind to, he kind of gets it

  423. done. So I knew that's what he wanted

  424. to do internally. I would think about it a lot.

  425. I'd, I'd kind of, you know, go back and forth.

  426. But at the end of the day, I also always had a very strong

  427. passion for serving the church. And I remember being very young

  428. and thinking to myself, in what ways can I serve when I'm older?

  429. I want to serve, I want to serve.

  430. And very recently I told Shamasha at the time, you know,

  431. look, God's made it happen. I used to have these thoughts as

  432. a kid, like serving the church, and not just the church, but

  433. also the Assyrian community in different ways.

  434. And, and now I feel like we have that opportunity and we have

  435. that platform and we have that, you know, through Christ to be

  436. able to do all of that. So, you know, I just went for it

  437. and supported him in everything that he wanted to do and.

  438. Let me take a step back. Blessings and kudos to your

  439. parents obviously, because they instill the passion big time.

  440. They lit that light and Christ illuminated it and, and let it

  441. glow. And now here you are today.

  442. And I'm sure when your parents are praying both of you, I'm

  443. sure they thank God and they thank him for the blessings that

  444. you have received because it is their blessings as well.

  445. So you know, then you're ready to go.

  446. You're, you've made-up your mind obviously through prayer and,

  447. and you know, fasting and consultation, obviously.

  448. But I know not going too much into details that you mentioned

  449. engineering, obviously Ravi Raja, and that didn't come

  450. overnight. A lot of studies and what have

  451. you, but again, another sacrifice on both of your behalf

  452. where you left that field, that profession, you sacrificed a lot

  453. and you've obviously we, you know, we say mental ill and

  454. Allah, God doesn't own us, owe us anything for us, you know,

  455. but you sacrificed a lot. How difficult or was it easy for

  456. you to come, both of you together collectively, say, you

  457. know what, no, I'm ready to sacrifice and to serve the Lord.

  458. I can take this one and then you can add anything if you'd like

  459. for, for me again, Robbie, like, like Nuno said, engineering was

  460. something that I studied obviously in, in school and I

  461. received my bachelor's degree in that and, and I've been working

  462. in the semiconductor field for about, it's about a little past

  463. three years. But when the calling came and it

  464. got more serious and I really began devoting my time to, to my

  465. own studies for, for the, for priesthood and pastoral studies,

  466. my, my profession and my role in the engineering field to me took

  467. second, third, fourth priority. And you know, I still gave it my

  468. all in, in my work. And I had, you know, I can have,

  469. I have my, my boss's, I guess, approvals for, for that.

  470. But I, I always really prioritized my pastoral studies.

  471. So when the time came, and again, this is, you know, this

  472. is just, I think the nature of it with regards to the major

  473. thing is finance. That's the major thing that we

  474. look at because of the country we're living in, the needs, the

  475. basic necessities. But thankfully, and thank, you

  476. know, thank our Archdeacon Uetikus and, and you know, the

  477. supporting committees and, and our parish and our diocese, you

  478. know, and he told me that the basic necessities will be, you

  479. will be, you'll be OK, you'll have received and, you know, as

  480. soon as long as I was confident and knowing that that was OK, I

  481. didn't need anything more than that.

  482. And I'm lucky to have a wife again to that she has her

  483. profession, she's passionate about the architecture field

  484. that she's, that she's in and we're blessed in in that aspect.

  485. So to me, I didn't need anything more than my basic necessities

  486. to be covered. And after I was, you know, after

  487. that was verified and I, I knew we were going to be OK, I fully

  488. trusted in, in God calling us to this and God guiding us through

  489. this. So it wasn't something that I

  490. was like questioning about, you know, how are we going to get

  491. through this? How are we going to make, you

  492. know, basic payments and think it wasn't, that was not, I don't

  493. think that was a question that I even brought up.

  494. I just I, I, we pursued it together full head on, you know,

  495. and it was, it was something that today I'm, I'm very

  496. grateful that we've, that we're able to, to take that step and

  497. go forward in. That so you move the motion and

  498. says she's seconded, Yeah. Exactly.

  499. Anyway, for those brothers and sisters of those sisters who are

  500. dating or have been engaged to or are married to an acolyte

  501. being a Deacon, what would your advice be pre warning about

  502. something like this happening? How should they be preparing

  503. themselves for God's calling? Not everyone's going to be

  504. called to this position, but God will call.

  505. Many are chosen or few are elected.

  506. What would your advice be for those who God will elect?

  507. In the most simplest way is trust in God, right?

  508. He has a will for all of us and we have to trust that.

  509. Going back to this Gears conference theme, thy will be

  510. done just trusting in God and not worrying, believing in him

  511. and every single thing that he has to provide for all of us

  512. that he's, you know, going to give it to us in our lifetime.

  513. So it it's just as simple as that.

  514. If I sat here and worried about, you know, how am I going to

  515. financially be stable? How am I going to do this?

  516. A lot of questions got asked me about, oh, how are you going to

  517. live a normal life? Can you go on vacations?

  518. Can you do this? Can you do that?

  519. If I sat here and worried about all of that, I'd panic.

  520. I wouldn't be able to do this right.

  521. So the advice to everyone is just to to trust in his will and

  522. trust in God and go from that. Have a strong relationship.

  523. You know that relationship that you have together, that

  524. communication, that's, that's really it.

  525. Saint Paul commands parents that they are.

  526. What's the word? They are not entitled.

  527. What's that word? They are incumbent to place and

  528. to prepare for their children good deeds and what have you

  529. good examples. And I think this is what you're

  530. doing for your children. This will be a sacrifice or a

  531. commitment or an answer or reply to calling from God where one

  532. day they will refer back to this and say, well, our parents did

  533. this, so we must be doing this. And again, going back to your

  534. parents, they obvious obviously sacrifice in a different manner.

  535. And the chain keeps going. It's growing and, and the, the,

  536. the effect and the fruits continue until the Lord returns.

  537. You know, any plans, you know, future plans and what you have

  538. in mind as far as working together together for the

  539. church, because really this is a unit where a husband and a wife

  540. are both engaged in working for the, for the Lord.

  541. And it's, it's a, it's amazing because the priest or the clergy

  542. is not alone in decision making. What do you have planned?

  543. Do you have any plans as as far as what you want to do in your

  544. parish And for the youth, obviously.

  545. Yeah. I think one of the blessings in

  546. disguise that we're that we're looking at here Robbie, is that

  547. I wasn't assigned a specific parish, whereas I was more of

  548. assistant and then the youth overseeing the youth group in

  549. Arizona. And then also I've been sort of

  550. given some responsibility across the diocese.

  551. So working with them at a local level at our parish, at, in, in

  552. Gilbert, at Mario Sapkanen issue and, and also more recently

  553. working closely with the Saint Peter's youth group in Glendale.

  554. I see the fire. I see the zeal that, that, that,

  555. that, that they have. And it's encouraging to me that

  556. I, I look at, OK, I took this on, I took on this

  557. responsibility through God's guidance and, and Providence.

  558. And I have his guidance and I have his strength.

  559. And then I see the, the, the youth members that I'm going to

  560. be working with and it's something very, very

  561. encouraging. So I've talked with some, with

  562. some committee members, some just, you know, youth members

  563. of, of both parishes, some across the diocese as well.

  564. Speaking with Nina, she has she's full of ideas and and you

  565. know that are are. Close.

  566. That's where you get it from I. Let's tell the truth.

  567. So I, I, I look, I, I really look forward to working with

  568. them, some of the projects or I guess activities that we want to

  569. do mainly in Arizona, because that's our, that's where, that's

  570. where we live. And that's, you know, where I'll

  571. be spending most of my time is I really want to unify, build a,

  572. build a stronger bridge between the two parishes, the two the

  573. two youth groups, because this year alone, they brought near

  574. nearly 100 youth members just from Arizona.

  575. And looking at the future, looking at our children's

  576. ministries are both parishes. And that that bridge that the

  577. children's ministries is going to funnel into the youth group.

  578. And then the youth members that you have between that age of

  579. like 18 to 21 and, and they're so they're so passionate about

  580. their youth, are so passionate about their church and serving.

  581. It's almost going to make my job so very easy.

  582. And I don't want to call it a job, but my responsibility is

  583. going to be very easy because I have people around me that are

  584. willing to work. And now that they see one of

  585. their own youth members, I think receiving these ranks, it's,

  586. it's encouraging them to come and, you know, want to serve and

  587. want to help me out so that we can both serve together.

  588. It's not like I'm their, you know, their boss or their

  589. leader. I'm I'm leading them and we're

  590. all working together to serve, to serve the church and, and all

  591. for his glory. For those who are not familiar

  592. with the demographics, driving distance from Gilbert to

  593. Glendale. Glendale and.

  594. Surprise. Surprise.

  595. What are we looking at? So looking at Mariosa Parish,

  596. which is in Gilbert all the way to Saint Peter's Parish in

  597. Glendale, it's about 50 minutes and then surprise, about another

  598. 20 minutes from their city from Glendale to surprise.

  599. OK, so. OK.

  600. You know, as you were speaking lobby that you want to unify a

  601. little bit about the Central Valley parishes, Modesto, Ceres,

  602. CA. We have what we call a Central

  603. Valley youth group. Joey Hermes, who's one of the

  604. members of the NEC national National Youth Executive.

  605. We've got to call NYC National Youth Executive Committee and

  606. Kristen, our sister as well. We have the Central Valley youth

  607. group where the three parishes come together.

  608. They have a a monthly worship night.

  609. They arrange a lot of activities and events.

  610. And for example, when the conference is being hosted by

  611. the Central Valley parishes, they all come together.

  612. It's, it's a great unity. It's.

  613. Yeah, there are issues. There's always issues because,

  614. you know, yeah. But I what we've seen, and I

  615. think my sister Kristen or, or Joey Orgizzo can vouch for this,

  616. that the unity that becomes very tight and they're bound together

  617. and it then makes it easier to work together.

  618. And obviously we're not, I mean, I think from Turlock to Modesto,

  619. 25 minutes, but I think that's a great idea.

  620. And I'll be because you have numbers, you have more power and

  621. you work together and and then it doesn't become the burden is

  622. not upon one parish. And so I'll vouch for that.

  623. Yeah, yeah, I'll definitely need your need your help.

  624. No, no, I was just telling you what it's no.

  625. No, no, no. You mentioned it.

  626. I have to get the help. It's.

  627. On the list of things to do for. Yeah, always there for you.

  628. Always. We are one church.

  629. We are one body wherever we may be, we are one body.

  630. We are one church and we are that great, amazing and I love

  631. saying that that great amazing Assyrian Church of the East,

  632. rich history. Let's go too much into that and

  633. we're not Tooting any horns, but we're just stating the facts and

  634. the truth and something amazing that I'll be you've seen this

  635. when the youth from the 13 year olds to the 25 year olds when

  636. they learn something different about their church and what this

  637. church has given for Christianity.

  638. I mean, it's a blessing again, they that's when they are more

  639. prone to be drawn to serve within the diaconate or the

  640. priesthood. And I said, when was it?

  641. I was talking to one of my brother priests and during the

  642. sessions, my session, some of the answers that were being

  643. given and and to in my heart in my mind, I was saying to myself,

  644. you know this church has future and 680 if not even 80 if twenty

  645. of those young men decide to take on the orders of the

  646. church, that is a great blessing from the Lord.

  647. That's a great success story to tell Last comments, closing

  648. comments that have you the mic's mic is yours and.

  649. OK, the one thing I do want to mention, Robbie, I think one of

  650. the things that's very important for I think our youth and all of

  651. our audience and every listener to, to know is that one thing

  652. that we also looked at and I, I think Nunua wanted to mention

  653. this or was, was thinking about this too.

  654. Something that we discussed was with regards to this earthly,

  655. because everybody asks questions that regard to temporal earthly

  656. passion and desires. And you know, one of the things

  657. Nunua mentioned was like vacations and all these things.

  658. And I, you know, nobody, I think you'd be out of your mind to not

  659. enjoy a vacation. But you know, those things are

  660. temporal and those things are earthly and those things.

  661. But when, when we're taking on not even just the priesthood,

  662. just any rank, anytime we're serving in the church and then

  663. we're serving Christ and his faithful, it's something that

  664. we're looking to do. And, and you mentioned this

  665. today on the car ride back home was, was gaining souls.

  666. The, the, the young men and women that we're serving, you're

  667. doing something that's going to be lasting in eternity when

  668. we're working and we're making an impact on, on their souls

  669. and, and the way they view Christ and the way they view

  670. their own spiritual lives and the way they view, you know, how

  671. to take when to make a right decision on following a good

  672. path versus a bad path in their lives and.

  673. Discerning God's voice. Exactly, And and so that that,

  674. you know, is, is a greater calling and is a greater

  675. purpose. And for sure, as you know, as

  676. we're living in these countries and, and we're living in the

  677. West and we know what, what, what is to come.

  678. And, you know, we, we, we are blessed to have the

  679. opportunities to to go out and to, you know, enjoy the world,

  680. enjoy our time. But I think time best spent is

  681. serving our Lord and, and one of the main things that we see in

  682. this, this passion that, you know, he's given us and, and

  683. we're grateful for it and we want to reciprocate that to

  684. everybody that we can is, is the ability to, to serve, the

  685. ability to draw people closer by the way we live our lives.

  686. And, and we need to be a beacon of, you know, if I'm speaking

  687. something, if I'm teaching something, I ought to be living

  688. it myself. And so that's one of the

  689. beautiful things about this, this calling.

  690. And I'm, you know, a one weekend, but I'm, I feel

  691. especially I'm very blessed that it was, it happened.

  692. My ordination was just 2-3 days before the youth conference.

  693. I think coming here in the priesthood was, was definitely a

  694. blessing, was definitely a humbling experience.

  695. And, and seeing all of the youth sort of gravitate towards the,

  696. the, the priesthood, I feel like that that makes my impact on

  697. them so much more greater. And I'm blessed to, to have that

  698. opportunity. Amen.

  699. Thank you, Robbie. Thank you, dearest.

  700. Final statements I, I hope that a lot of our ACOE youth members

  701. and you know, just in general, everyone in the ACOE can kind of

  702. take a look at the two of us. And I pray that we can be the

  703. role models that I've been hearing people say that we are.

  704. But I pray that we continue on that path.

  705. And, you know, I want them to know that we are there for them

  706. and in this new generation, being in the, you know, 27 and

  707. 28, almost 29, and serving in the church in the way that we

  708. are right now. It's for us, it's very humbling

  709. and I hope that our brothers and sisters can also look at that

  710. and you know, anytime they have questions or need us, both of

  711. us, they can come to us in in any ways and you know, kind of

  712. carry that, carry that cross as well.

  713. I mean, I mean that they may see your good deeds and glorious

  714. glorify your Father in heaven. You know, I always say it, I'll

  715. be that if Christ hadn't come down on earth and had died for

  716. you and I and the entire world, we would not be sitting here and

  717. we would not have these blessings.

  718. It is only but from yes, the church or the East knows grace.

  719. We know grace. We have two words for it.

  720. I always say shove up at the plate with we know grace.

  721. It's by the grace of God. But then again, Christ is

  722. commanded that they know our good deeds and that they may

  723. through the deeds, glorify our home, not just the faith.

  724. You know Christ didn't say so that they can see how strong

  725. your faith is and how many verses you can quote.

  726. No, no, He said so that they may know, see your good deeds and

  727. they may glorify your God in heaven.

  728. And we always keep in mind that we are those unworthy servants,

  729. those rusty tools in the shed where God takes out in His

  730. amazing, glorious, powerful, almighty sovereign hands.

  731. And he, he uses those rusty tools to gravitate people around

  732. us, to see your priesthood, to, to come to you and to grow and

  733. be encouraged to draw even closer to God.

  734. And for my sister Nimba to be an example for those sisters who

  735. are, as I said, engaged in a relationship with a with a

  736. someone who's an acolyte who has a lot of other orders.

  737. At the end of the day, Rabi, you said it and we we're beginning a

  738. liturgical with this is that the church and those who serve are

  739. there to glorify God, first and foremost, to glorify God and to

  740. save souls. And that is done through God's

  741. mysterious ways and power and grace and and mercy.

  742. Praise me to his name. Thank you so much for

  743. reluctantly. No, no, no, I know I know you.

  744. You're very happy to be to be a part of the podcast.

  745. There's such a plug, plug the double double edged sword

  746. podcast ministry. It's too late.

  747. It's late, but that's OK. The double edged sword No

  748. honestly, Robbie, thank you again for the opportunity.

  749. Double edged sword from I have heard personal testimonials of

  750. some of our own youth members in Arizona of how, how you've

  751. impacted them to for some, for some of our youth members in

  752. Arizona, those that may have not been as close to Christ, not as

  753. close to the church. But after hearing your podcast,

  754. some of them are now currently working in our children's

  755. ministries and, and actively zealous in the youth and, and,

  756. and working and serving. And, and so you've, you know,

  757. through the podcast and it's just glory to God for, for the,

  758. for the use of technology for good.

  759. That's, that's what you've been doing you and your team in

  760. California and, and, and God bless you guys always.

  761. Kudos to the the producers, but it's not my podcast, it's not

  762. Stevens or Adrina's, it's no one's podcast.

  763. It's only again a tool and a mean by through life through

  764. which God is using to draw people to His.

  765. Glory. Glory to God, I just ask that

  766. you keep the podcast and all those out there who are

  767. preaching the the truth of the Gospels and Jesus Christ that

  768. the Lord will increase and with the Lord will will raise

  769. laborers in the vineyard so that we can work for this amazing

  770. ministry which is preaching the gospel of Christ.

  771. Robbie, will you bless us with a closing prayer and, and thank

  772. you so much to both of you, Robbie, Robbie, Asha Robbie and

  773. Missus Andrew Aziz. I think that would be the right

  774. title. Reverend Father and Missus

  775. Andrew Aziz, God bless you all. Thank you so much and we'll look

  776. forward to speaking to you more on the podcast.

  777. Please close with the prayer for us.

  778. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  779. Amen. Dear Lord, we thank you for this

  780. opportunity to join with our Reverend Father Gennard, my wife

  781. Nene, the blessed producers, thank you for always giving us

  782. the opportunities and the grace and the blessings from your

  783. heavenly hand. May the glorious Trinity always

  784. bless and strengthen and guide our youth and our church in the

  785. future. You are everlasting and strong,

  786. and may you always bless and protect and guide this Church.

  787. You are our guide, and by you we are strengthened by the name of

  788. your glorious Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I.
