  1. In the name of the glorious Trinity, Father and Son and Holy

  2. Spirit, forever Amen. Glory be to the.

  3. Everlasting mercies which? Sent you to us, O Christ, the

  4. light of the world and the life of all.

  5. Give us wisdom. By your law and enlighten our

  6. impulses. By your knowledge sanctify our

  7. souls. By your truth and grant that we

  8. may be obedient to your words and may fulfil your commandments

  9. at every hour. O you who?

  10. Enlightens the rational with the knowledge of Your greatness.

  11. Do enlight, O my Lord, our thoughts, that we may meditate

  12. upon Your holy and divine Scriptures at all times, O Lord

  13. of all, Father and Son and Holy Spirit.

  14. Forever Amen. Nowadays, forgiveness of sins is

  15. at times seen to be understood, perceived and proclaimed in many

  16. different ways, and the one most disappointing yet factual reason

  17. for the various views on this topic is that there are more

  18. than 45,000 denominations of. Christianity worldwide did.

  19. That knock you off your chair. That's the truth. 45,000

  20. denominations of. Christianity worldwide all.

  21. Claiming that the Holy Spirit is.

  22. Revealing to them. And the Holy Spirit is working

  23. through them. Now these denominations are

  24. divided into 6 main groups, that is Eastern and Western theology,

  25. the Church of the East, the Oriental Orthodoxy, the Eastern

  26. Orthodoxy, the Roman Catholicism, Protestantism and

  27. Restorationism. Now the understanding the

  28. mystery of the forgiveness of sins is understood to be common

  29. and equal amongst two of the six groups, namely Orthodoxy and

  30. Catholicism, that is, the Apostolic denominations.

  31. But let's take a look at the Holy Scriptures and ascertain

  32. who alone can forgive sins. I can already hear, I can feel,

  33. I can sense the answer and the obviously remarks that who is

  34. able to forgive sins except God alone.

  35. You know that's what some of the Pharisees and scribes thought in

  36. their hearts and in their minds in Mark chapter 2 verse seven,

    Mark 2 chapter mention

  37. when Jesus said to the paralytic who was lowered from the rooftop

  38. by his friends, he said, my son, your sins are forgiven.

  39. You see, they should have listened to what he said and

  40. not, you know, be poised and ready to argue and to attack my

  41. son. You know, they turn around and

  42. say who can forgive sins except God?

  43. But they didn't pay any attention or take notice that

  44. Jesus is calling this paralytic boy son.

  45. Notice he says my son, but hang on, he is not the Father.

  46. Jesus is not the Father, is he? And also in Daniel Chapter 9

    Daniel 9 chapter mention

  47. verse nine, we read that mercies and forgiveness of sins are of

  48. the Lord God, for we have rebelled against Him.

  49. That is God the Father. So what is Jesus doing?

  50. Forgiving sins? Rightly so beloved, rightly so.

  51. Praise me to His name, because He is the Lord God who came down

  52. from heaven and was Incarnate, that is taking on our flesh of

  53. the Holy Spirit. He, God the Son, possessed the

  54. same Omni characteristics as did God the Father.

  55. By the power of God the Holy Spirit, He knew what was in man.

  56. The scriptures say Jesus knew what was in man, that is in the

  57. mind, the heart and the thoughts of man.

  58. Hence He did not entrust Himself to any man because He knew all

  59. men. Listen to this.

  60. These words have not been said to any other person on earth.

  61. Jesus Christ is the only true Son of God, the Messiah, He is

  62. God. The scriptures tell us that He

  63. did not entrust himself to any man because he knew all men and

  64. he did not need a man to testify to him about anyone, for He

  65. Himself knew what was in a man. John chapter 2, verse 24 to 25.

    John 2:24–25

  66. This is the Gospel reading for the sacrament of baptism.

  67. Jesus had power over nature because He created nature.

  68. Luke chapter 8 verse 24 rebuked the wind and the waves of the

    Luke 8:24

  69. Seas. He rebuked them and they were

  70. still. Why?

  71. Because everything was in His hand and without Him not even

  72. one thing existed of the things that existed.

  73. John chapter one verse 3 He will judge beloved, He will judge.

  74. According to Matthew 25, He will judge the world.

  75. He will judge mankind according to their deeds, whether good or

  76. evil. You see in ecclesiastics chapter

  77. 3 verse 17, the righteous and the wicked God judges.

  78. And in Matthew chapter 25 we read that Jesus will judge.

    Matthew 25 chapter mention

  79. He is God praise His name in Isaiah chapter 3333 verse 22,

  80. because the Lord God is the judge.

  81. So Jesus Christ being the Lord in the Aramaic language, Maria,

  82. Lord God, Jesus Christ is Lord God the God praise his name.

  83. You see, he that is Jesus may not be who the Father is.

  84. Jesus is not the Father, the Son is not the Father, but He most

  85. certainly and assuredly is what the Father is, and that is God

  86. by nature, and we become divine through Him by grace.

  87. He is our Lord, our King, our Savior, our life Giver, and the

  88. forgiver of our sins. Now this Jesus, praise be to His

  89. name, the Forgiver of sins, is no longer with us, is He?

  90. He's no longer with us on earth, right?

  91. So how do we receive this gracious and merciful act of

  92. forgiveness of sins? How, where, through whom?

  93. By whom? Jesus may have left us

  94. physically, but He has left us His gracious gifts and

  95. provisions readily available with His apostles within the

  96. Apostolic Church. Let us not forget that on the

  97. eve of the day of His resurrection, beloved, He

  98. visited his disciples in the upper room where the doors and

  99. the windows were closed, and he entered through the walls and

  100. gave them the Peace of Mind. When He said peace be with you,

  101. He gave them a Peace of Mind and heart.

  102. But look at what He did next. He breathed on them the Holy

  103. Spirit, not in its fullness, no. Not the Spirit in His fullness,

  104. no, though He said something interesting and encouraging to

  105. His disciples. In John chapter 20, verse 23,

    John 20:23

  106. we're talking about forgiveness of sins.

  107. If you, O disciples and apostles, will forgive a man's

  108. sins, they will be forgiven him. And if you hold a man's sins,

  109. they will be held. You know, this coincides,

  110. coincides with what he said previously in verse 21.

  111. Again, peace be with you. Just as my Father has sent me, I

  112. also, with the same exact power and authority and intention and

  113. plan, am sending you. The Father sent me for the

  114. forgiveness of sins. I have the same authority as the

  115. Father, because I am God by my nature.

  116. I now send you, O Apostles, who will be the foundation of the

  117. Church. According to Saint Paul's letter

  118. to the Thessalonians, we have been built upon the foundations

  119. of the apostles. You will do the exact same work,

  120. plan, signs, powers as I have. So forgiveness of sins began

  121. with God, was fulfilled through Jesus Christ, and continues in

  122. the one Holy Apostolic Catholic with a lowercase C denoting then

  123. universal character of the Church, not denoting the Roman

  124. Catholic Church, no one holy Apostolic universal church.

  125. So what is the process of the forgiveness of sins?

  126. Again, let's have a look at the Prodigal Son as an example, as a

  127. model #1 finding one's self in life and in particular in

  128. relation with God, admitting to sins and transgressions which

  129. have been committed through foolishness and frailty and evil

  130. desires, admission, repentance. That means to return to the

  131. Father, to come back to the Father, to come back to the

  132. care, the authority, the will, the plans, the most importantly

  133. calling of the Father, which is to holiness and sanctity, which

  134. we all have been called to confessing of one's sins and

  135. transgressions to the Church through her priesthood, which is

  136. the reflector of the light of the world that is Jesus Christ.

  137. Now I can hear, I can hear, I can feel again.

  138. Why do I need to confess to man when I have Jesus Christ?

  139. I can go straight to the Lord Jesus Christ.

  140. Yes, Amen. Amen to that.

  141. Did you notice I didn't say confessed to men, but rather to

  142. the priesthood, the light of Jesus Christ, to the world, the

  143. authority, the office of the priesthood.

  144. After all, beloved St. James encourages us in chapter 5

  145. verse 16, two, be confessing your offenses or sins to one

  146. another and pray one for another to be healed.

  147. So why don't we pose the same questions to Saint James?

  148. St. James, why do I need to confess

  149. my sins to another person? I have the Lord Jesus Christ and

  150. he goes on to say that through prayers, sins may be forgiven.

  151. Now again, you may be saying, see we don't need a specific

  152. priest. Let me read the previous verses,

  153. beloved James chapter 5 verses 13 to 16.

    James 5:13–16

  154. And if any of you is suffering, let him pray, and if rejoicing,

  155. let him sing songs. And if one is ill physically or

  156. spiritually, let him call the elders, today known as the

  157. presbyters or the priest. The priest is not a bad word.

  158. Priest is not a dirty word, right?

  159. Call the elders or the presbyters or the priest of the

  160. church and let them pray over him and anoint him with the oil

  161. in the name of our Lord. And the prayer of faith heals

  162. the one who is ill this healing, and our Lord raises him up.

  163. And if sins were done, listen to this.

  164. If sins were done by him, they are forgiven him because John

    John 20:23

  165. chapter 20 verse 23, if you forgive the sins of men, they

  166. are forgiven and if you don't they are not forgiven through

  167. Jesus Christ, not by the priest, but by the power vested in the

  168. priest through Jesus Christ. Jesus forgives sins, they are

  169. forgiven him, but he can be confessing your offenses 1 to

  170. another and pray one for another to be healed, not forgiveness to

  171. be healed. For the power of the prayer

  172. which a righteous person prays is great.

  173. One of the Church Fathers comments on this and take heed,

  174. Shilia O Shlao, stop everything, stop the cooking, stop the

  175. cleaning, stop the vacuuming, pull over to one side.

  176. Very important, he comments. We must use our common sense,

  177. which is not common obviously, in applying this commandment.

  178. As far as a small everyday sins are concerned, we ought to admit

  179. them to one another and believe that we are saved from them by

  180. praying for each other. But if we have sinned in a more

  181. serious way, adultery, fornication, homosexuality,

  182. abortion, denouncing Jesus Christ, murder, then we ought to

  183. follow the principles of showing our leprosy to the priest and do

  184. penance for it as much and for as long as he thinks is right.

  185. Why? Why is the Church Father

  186. commenting? Because he is going back to his

  187. reference to Christ's precious and and gracious gift of

  188. forgiveness, John chapter 20 verse 23 to his disciples.

    John 20:23

  189. So we must keep in mind, beloved, forgiveness of sins

  190. didn't come at the click of a hand and instantaneous.

  191. It took for one innocent, holy, perfect man to be hanging on the

  192. cross crying out. Father, forgive them for they do

  193. not know what they are doing. We too must be mourning in

  194. sorrow, remorse and deprivation when we ask, Father, forgive me

  195. for what I for I have sinned, when we cry out, Lord, absolve

  196. the sins and transgressions of your servant, when we beseech

  197. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a Sinner.

  198. We must be bold and courageous, yet in humility to admit and

  199. confess our sins. We must be willing with a

  200. contrite spirit, to confess our sins to the renowned physicians.

  201. Let me quote to you and share with you one of the prayers that

  202. the priest recites during the preparation of the host, the

  203. Qurbana while he is cooking the bread.

  204. And bear with me because in my mind I'm singing it in Aramaic

  205. and trying to translate it in English.

  206. Let me say it in an in Aramaic. Samadatyahwutayawa Maran.

  207. The message the the medicine of repentance the Lord gave

  208. Shamasha Alan will be singing this along with me.

  209. Samadatyahwutayawa Maran El Asawata Mahira he gave to the

  210. renowned physicians the Tehun Kahnet Ayeta, who are the priest

  211. of the Church. Aina dum hai satana prepared

  212. Ola. He who has been stricken by the

  213. wounds of Satan, let him come and show his wounds.

  214. That is repentance, that is confession to the wise

  215. physicians, which are the priest, and they will give him

  216. the spiritual medicine, Samaru Haniah, which is the Holy

  217. Eucharist. See, forgiveness again, beloved,

  218. is not at the click of the finger.

  219. Lord God, I've seen forgive me. It's not repeating a prayer.

  220. Let me tell you a little bit about the the liturgy, the

  221. Divine Liturgy of Absolution that the faithful can request

  222. that the Church will provide. And think about this.

  223. I think we've spoken about it, but just a refresher, if you

  224. feel that you want to be absolved according to the

  225. liturgy, the tradition and the commands of the Church, you need

  226. to consult your spiritual counselor, your priest, and

  227. confess. Yes, don't be shy.

  228. You know, if Saint James is telling you that you can confess

  229. your sins to your BBF, is it BBF or BFF?

  230. Steven? BBF, BFF.

  231. See getting old to your BFF, your bestest, bestest friend to

  232. a childhood friend, How much more to your spiritual father

  233. who's your priest, and confess. And the priest will go to the

  234. grave with that confession, must go to the grave with that

  235. confession. And if the priest takes

  236. advantage of that confession, then he will go to the grave and

  237. face his Maker and has to be held accountable.

  238. And the priest will then, according to what the Father was

  239. commenting on, James chapter 5, verses 13 to 16 will then

    James 5:13–16

  240. examine and he will then prescribe that medicine, that

  241. that treatment, usually it's fasting, refraining from

  242. partaking in the Holy Eucharist and continuing to read your

  243. scriptures, reading the lives of the holy Saints and consulting

  244. with you continuously to that day, that point where the priest

  245. will feel comfortable along with you that you are ready to

  246. receive them up the absolution. And you will have to come to the

  247. priest, to the altar at the altar of Christ, and kneel with

  248. your hands crossed on your chest.

  249. It denounced death. You know, people who die, their

  250. hands are folded against their chest.

  251. And the Deacon will be standing behind you, and the priest will

  252. be standing in front of you by the power vested in the priest

  253. through Jesus Christ, not man Jesus Christ.

  254. The liturgy will be said over you, beseeching the Lord that

  255. you get forgave the Republicans, you forgave the sinners, the

  256. prostitutes, the harlest, the extortionists, the sinners, the

  257. Republicans, the Zacchaeus. So to have mercy on this soul, O

  258. Lord Jesus Christ, while at at that time you are beating your

  259. chest and constantly crying out, Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God,

  260. have mercy on me. And when that is concluded, you

  261. stand up, the priest will kiss you on your forehead and he will

  262. say your sins are forgiven by Jesus Christ.

  263. And then he will remit or he will commune you.

  264. He will, he will have you partake in the holy body and

  265. blood of Christ, the Holy Eucharist.

  266. Qurbana, Qadisha, don't be afraid if you haven't heard

  267. this. You know when I say, when I

  268. speak about the, the literature of the absolution, people say

  269. I've never heard this. Well, it is, it's in the, it's

  270. in the liturgical books. We do have that.

  271. We have it in English and we have it in Syrian as well.

  272. So contemplate and think about it.

  273. Forgiveness of sins, beloved, didn't come at the click of the

  274. finger. Instantaneous.

  275. There was one holy sinless man hanging on the cross with his

  276. blood being shed. Cried out Father, forgive them,

  277. for they do not know what they are doing.

  278. And this is what we need to cry out to the Lord while being

  279. absolved by the authority of the Church, which is the priesthood

  280. of our Lord Jesus Christ. Praise and glory between His

  281. name now and at all times and forever.

  282. Amen. We hope you enjoyed this week's
