-
But I'm so honored to kick off this the series.
-
And listen, I'm.
-
I'm not stupid.
-
I understand women preachers are controversial.
-
So I've heard.
-
But I want to explain to you, especially if you're visiting here
-
or you're online, maybe you're trolling, I'm not sure.
-
But we believe in strong male headship.
-
And I'm doing this to honor my husband out of obedience.
-
Obedience that was asked of me.
-
And so I'm not up here.
-
I don't have, like, lofty crazy, you know, like, ambition like
-
that.
-
Like, I'm here to serve our church today.
-
So I'm honored to do it.
-
And thank you guys for receiving this word from me.
-
So.
-
And for those of you who are scripture counters, I have 21.
-
I already counted for you.
-
I know.
-
Isn't it a slow news day when somebody's like watching your sermon
-
on slow mo, counting your scripture?
-
Yeah.
-
Okay, there's 21.
-
I did the work for you.
-
But we are so excited to kick off this series today.
-
But before we.
-
Anytime we talk about marriage, I wanna just give a couple
-
of disclaimers.
-
Is I understand that we have single people, single, ready to mingle.
-
Look around, look around.
-
We have single people, we have married people, we have divorced
-
people, and we have people who don't wanna be married.
-
Right?
-
And I guess, praise God.
-
But I just wanna give a couple of disclaimers is that when we're
-
talk and we're talking about communication and we're talking about
-
covenant and staying in your marriage and not giving up, I want
-
you to understand that abuse and addiction is incredibly complicated.
-
And so I do not want you to weaponize this sermon of me telling
-
you to stay in a place that is not safe for you.
-
Okay?
-
So I'm giving that disclaimer way up on the front end.
-
Are we all in agreement there?
-
Okay, awesome.
-
And then if you are single, I want you to look at this series in
-
a couple different ways.
-
Is one, it's healing from you witnessing a broken marriage, or
-
it's preparation for your future.
-
And if you are living in a reality where you've experienced
-
divorce, I wanna tell you that the Lord is a healer, that he can
-
go into those moments, heal, restore.
-
There can be miracles, but there can also be new beginnings.
-
And so I just wanna encourage your heart.
-
This is so if you fall in any one of those categories and you are
-
not married, this is like back pocket marriage material.
-
Okay?
-
So you may not.
-
It's like a pocket knife.
-
You know those people that always have a pocket knife.
-
And you're like, why do you always carry that until you need
-
to borrow their pocket knife?
-
Okay.
-
Did it hit ya?
-
Did you catch it?
-
Okay.
-
Okay, great.
-
So this is your pocket knife.
-
Got it.
-
If you're in New York, you should have a pocket knife.
-
If you don't, I don't.
-
Maybe it's Indiana stuff.
-
I don't know.
-
They got a lot more than pocket knives up in here, I can tell
-
you that much.
-
New York don't know about that.
-
But I'm going to.
-
Just going to get into the Word.
-
Before I do, I want to pray.
-
Lord Jesus, we just pray that this word God would be received into
-
hearts.
-
I pray that you'd prepare them now to receive the word God.
-
I just.
-
I pray that we would have a test this month.
-
Would be a testimony of reconciliation and restoration in
-
Jesus mighty name.
-
That's what we're praying and believing.
-
Can the church say Amen?
-
Amen.
-
Amen.
-
I'm going to get into the scripture.
-
We're in Genesis 2, 1825, it said, then the Lord God said, it
-
is not good that man should be alone.
-
I will make a helper fit for him.
-
Now, out of the ground, the Lord God had formed every beast of
-
the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the
-
man to see what he would call them.
-
And whatever the man called every living creature, that was his
-
name.
-
And the man gave names to all the livestock and to the birds of
-
the heavens and every beast of the field.
-
But for Adam, there was not found a helper fit for him.
-
So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while
-
he slept, took one of his ribs, closed up the place with flesh,
-
and the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man, he made into
-
a woman and brought her to man.
-
Then the man said, this at last is bone of my bone, flesh of
-
my flesh.
-
She shall be called woman because she was taken out of man.
-
Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold
-
fast to his wife that they shall become one flesh.
-
And the man and his wife were both naked and not ashamed.
-
Men.
-
We are not talking about that scripture today, okay?
-
Save it.
-
But isn't it funny that God was addressing about conflict in
-
marriage before conflict even started, Right?
-
So we have A husband shall leave his, his, his family and cleave
-
to his wife, who was Adam's dad, who was Adam's mama.
-
It was that the Lord was already up ahead in our future saying,
-
you don't have conflict yet.
-
But you will.
-
And when you do, I have.
-
So I want to tell you, maybe you're in a season of joy in your
-
marriage, but keep your safety belt on, because, honey, a crisis
-
is on the way.
-
That's not prophesying doom.
-
That's life.
-
How many have been married more than a week?
-
Okay.
-
How many had some crisises in their life?
-
And I also want to say that I've been married almost 20 years.
-
I'm not a kid up here that's been married for five years.
-
I know I look like a teenager.
-
Just kidding.
-
Just kidding.
-
Amen.
-
Thank you.
-
I'll receive it from the front row.
-
But I'm going on 20 years in this, so I feel like.
-
And I know some of y'all have more.
-
My parents were married until my dad died over 40 years.
-
I mean, they got some.
-
We've seen long marriages run on my side of the family, so we feel
-
like, you know, we have something to deposit today.
-
But I want to say this, and this is really important for you
-
guys to understand, and maybe not for our.
-
Our lead gener, or maybe not for our millennial generation, but
-
I want to tell you, for Gen Alpha, Gen Z, marriage is good.
-
It doesn't mean it's not hard.
-
It doesn't mean there's not heartache.
-
It doesn't mean that there's not things that you have to go through.
-
But I want to overemphasize, get in your heart that marriage is
-
a good thing.
-
It doesn't matter what kind of marriage that you saw in your life.
-
I'm telling you that the Lord has someone for you, and marriage
-
covenant is good.
-
Can I get an amen?
-
Amen.
-
Now, I know what you're thinking.
-
Like, oh, yeah, she doesn't get it.
-
She's got 2.5 kids.
-
She's got a dog.
-
They're happy.
-
They don't fight.
-
Okay?
-
We lived our life in a toxic cycle of horrible marriage.
-
For the first, we've been married 20 years.
-
We've had, like, eight good ones.
-
Can anybody relate?
-
So we had a long season, a long history of drama, drama, drama.
-
We had infidelity.
-
We had abuse.
-
We had poverty.
-
We, you know, I left him for, you know, a length and duration of
-
time.
-
I was like, I'm done with you.
-
So, like, when we say, we know, we know.
-
So when I say, hold on, hold on, like, I'm not talking about,
-
like, oh, we just didn't get along.
-
I'm talking about, like, I hated his guts.
-
So I want you to hear me when I say, When I say marriage is good,
-
that is a deep work of healing that the Lord has done in me.
-
So I just want to prophesy that over you.
-
Maybe your marriage isn't good, but it can be good.
-
God hasn't got in there yet.
-
There's hope for you and there's restoration.
-
But it's so sad that we have to emphasize the fact that marriage
-
is a good thing.
-
And some people say, like, it's just a piece of paper, Julie.
-
It's not a big deal, especially in the younger generation.
-
And I would say, well, then why is it that in Hollywood we see
-
people who live together for decades?
-
They talk about, it's just a piece of paper.
-
It's just a piece of paper.
-
Then they go and they have the wedding and they're divorced within
-
three days.
-
Why is it?
-
Because it's not just a piece of paper.
-
It's a covenant that was instituted by God.
-
And so we've got to differentiate covenant from commitment.
-
Dating is commitment.
-
Living together is commitment.
-
But marriage is covenant.
-
Going to a conference for my single people is commitment.
-
But local church, marrying one local church is covenant.
-
Call out culture on the Internet is commitment.
-
You can be committed to a cause, you can be committed to an
-
injustice, but reconciliation and repentance, that's covenant.
-
Marriage is a covenant.
-
Let's just talk about the secular definition, definition of
-
commitment, the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause
-
or activity.
-
But a covenant is a lease or deed agreement.
-
When you own the deed to a house, that is a permanent situation.
-
Marriage is a covenant.
-
It is a deed, it is an agreement.
-
And commitment is, I can leave at any time, but covenant says, I'm
-
not leaving, no matter what.
-
So the foundation of this church needs to be built on healthy,
-
godly marriage.
-
And guess what?
-
It's gotta start with me.
-
Now, I'm not perfect, but I do respect the covenant that I made
-
to the Lord.
-
It's our covenant to our spouse before God.
-
All right, let's read in Ephesians 5, 31, 33.
-
Now, wives, I need you to take a deep breath.
-
And husbands don't say, I told you so.
-
Okay?
-
As I read this scripture, do not weaponize God's word.
-
We call that scripture shade.
-
When you're mad at your spouse, and then you post a scripture
-
at him, that's called scripture shade.
-
You're throwing shade at your spouse using the word, we ain't doing
-
that today.
-
But in Ephesians 5, 31, 33.
-
Ladies, I need you to hear me.
-
I'm just reading the Word.
-
These are not my own opinions.
-
It says, wives, submit to your own husband.
-
Not submit to your pastor and be unsubmissive to your husband.
-
Not submit to your connect group leader and respect him, but
-
be disrespectful and dishonoring to your husband.
-
It says, wives, submit to your own.
-
Say your own husband as to the Lord, for the husband is the head
-
of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body,
-
and is himself its savior.
-
Now, I need you to feel the depth in that.
-
I want you to underline the word savior, especially if you're
-
a woman.
-
Because sometimes we talk about submission as if it's a dirty
-
word.
-
We talk about submission as if that's something for an older generation.
-
But I would say that there is power in the submission to your spouse,
-
and we need to bring submission back into marriage and
-
into the church and talk about the joy of being submitted to a godly
-
spouse.
-
Men, did you catch it?
-
Okay, because you have to think, all right, I'm getting ahead
-
of myself.
-
I'm not going there.
-
All right?
-
Now, as the church submits everything to Christ, so also wives
-
should submit in everything.
-
Ladies, it says everything.
-
Our finances.
-
Okay, I'm going.
-
No secret credit cards.
-
You know, you gotta submit it all.
-
It says to their husbands.
-
Husbands, are y'all listen.
-
Are the men listening?
-
Lean in, men, because this is you.
-
You got a much larger chunk of scripture here.
-
It says, husbands, love your wives as Christ love the church and
-
gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed
-
her by the washing of water with the Word, so that he might present
-
the church to himself in splendor.
-
Do you know how much work it is to make something inspirational?
-
Splendor.
-
So if you're a man and you're saying, she don't submit to me, well,
-
my thing is, are you working on her to get to splendor?
-
Because Jesus isn't asking us to do anything that he's not willing
-
to do.
-
His marriage is to the church, and he gave everything up for her.
-
Okay, I'm going to keep going.
-
Without spot or wrinkles or any such thing that she might be
-
holy without blemish.
-
In the same way, husbands should love their wives as their
-
own bodies.
-
He who loves his wife, loves himself, for no one ever hated his
-
own flesh, but nourishes it and cherishes it, just as Christ
-
the church, because we are members of his body, in order.
-
In other words, if you hate your wife, you hate yourself.
-
Yeah, we'll get There, hold up back pocket.
-
Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast
-
to his wife and the two shall become one flesh.
-
This mystery is profound and I'm saying that it refers to Christ
-
and the church.
-
However, let each one of you love his wife as himself and let
-
the wife see that she respects her husband.
-
So we hear a lot about love and respect.
-
Every man wants respect.
-
Every woman wants to be loved.
-
This is what we all want.
-
But so often we are in toxic cycles that keep us from respecting
-
our husband and keep men bound from loving their wives.
-
So this series is called what Women Want.
-
What Men Want.
-
And what you want from me is just a bunch of things that you can
-
do to try to have a better marriage.
-
But can I be real?
-
That is just an evangelical Christian marriage wish list.
-
Because the reality is, is that you do want things already and
-
they're not what Christ want.
-
So I.
-
A lot of the things that you wish you wanted aren't what you really
-
want.
-
Are y'all catching me?
-
Okay, so a lot of the things that you.
-
I'm gonna repeat it.
-
A lot of the things that you wish you wanted are not what you
-
really want because we have toxic tendencies.
-
We've got brokenness, we've had generational trauma.
-
And so I'm gonna give you a list of what we should want in a
-
little bit.
-
But right now I'm gonna speak to some of the demonic activity that's
-
taken root in our home, that tries to take hold and choke out
-
the life giving gift of marriage.
-
So I know what you should want and we're going to talk about that.
-
But I just want to speak to the elephant in the room of what
-
you actually want.
-
So what you want is control.
-
What you want is revenge.
-
What you want is to withhold, to make him pay or to make her pay.
-
What you want is to lie about your finances.
-
What you want is somebody else's spouse.
-
What you want is to escape responsibility.
-
Hello.
-
That's why I wanted out.
-
I'm like, this is too much.
-
What you want is to lie.
-
What you want is to distract yourself in the busyness of ministry
-
so you don't have to pay attention to your marriage.
-
What you want is something in another man's field.
-
But can I be honest this morning?
-
Because many of you don't even want love or respect.
-
You want a scorecard.
-
You want to not apologize.
-
You want to win.
-
You want the last word and you want to be their mama.
-
So a lot of times what we actually want is unhealthy.
-
Toxic, controlling, manipulative.
-
And so the books that we read in the Christian, Christian kingdom
-
are talking about what we should want from the most healed,
-
healthiest place.
-
But we have to acknowledge that sometimes we want the bad stuff.
-
So what I'm trying to do is tell you what I wish somebody would
-
have told me.
-
Girl, you don't want love.
-
You want to win.
-
Girl, you don't.
-
You don't want love.
-
You want revenge.
-
You want him to hurt like he hurt you.
-
That's really what I wanted.
-
So a lot of times we want unhealthy things, and we have to
-
go through a season of getting healed from those sinful, selfish
-
desires so that we can make things right in our marriage.
-
And what I listed above, it's not typically what sinners want.
-
It's what church people in pews want.
-
Leading ministries and wondering, why isn't God bringing
-
the increase?
-
It's like, get your marriage right, bro.
-
Get your marriage right, sis.
-
Like, we gotta get our priorities straight.
-
And we wonder, why is the divorce rate so high in the church?
-
What is the church doing about it?
-
And I'm like, it ain't the church's fault.
-
It's that these humans aren't looking in the mirror.
-
Sanctification is a process.
-
We have to be willing to look at Christ's example for marriage
-
and wholeheartedly fulfill not our desire for our marriage, but
-
his desire for our marriage.
-
And be honest about the areas that are not measuring up to Jesus
-
standard and Jesus commitment to the church.
-
Sanctification, it is a lifelong process.
-
So today, before we go any further, we're going to deal with
-
some flesh in our marriage and how to redeem some of those sinful
-
things in our life that's trying to take root in our marriage.
-
So we're just going to do that right now before we go any further.
-
So we're just gonna take a minute, and you can close your eyes
-
if you'd like, and this is gonna get awkward, and we're okay
-
with it.
-
And we're gonna ask the Holy Spirit, before we go any further
-
in this sermon, show me right now what my heart really wants.
-
Not what I wish I wanted, but what have I really been after?
-
What are some of the demonic tendencies that have been trying
-
to take a root in my marriage?
-
And just let the Holy Spirit speak to you.
-
Now.
-
I want you to take those sinful desires, and I want you to
-
take a few moments, and I want you to repent for desiring those
-
things that bring destruction and division in your marriage.
-
And if your spouse is sitting by you and there's some changes that
-
you need to make, I want you just very discreetly just tap their
-
leg or squeeze their hand or just a gesture to let them know,
-
like, hey, we're not talking about it now.
-
But there are some changes that I need to make.
-
There's some desires that I need to realign with his kingdom.
-
And now what I want you to do is ask the Lord to show you the root
-
of why you desire some of those things.
-
Just real quietly, just keep your eyes closed at every location.
-
Let the Holy Spirit speak.
-
Some of it it's because of what you saw growing up.
-
Some of it's the trauma that you've experienced.
-
Some things you just have never dealt with and you have a victim
-
mentality and you just feel like the world is just crushing in.
-
Or maybe it's because you never thought you could have a different
-
marriage because of what you've seen.
-
We're just gonna ask the Lord, Holy Spirit, show us the route now.
-
We're gonna take those lies that the Holy Spirit so graciously
-
revealed to us and we're just going to give them to Jesus right
-
now.
-
Just.
-
Just imagine yourself just picking them up, giving them to Jesus,
-
putting them at his cross.
-
I'm going to pray this prayer over you, Father.
-
I bind the enemy that tries to divide the married couples of this
-
church in our community.
-
I rebuke the devourer that tries to create cycles of death that
-
choke the life out of our marriage.
-
We bind the enemy and we rebuke him out of our homes, out
-
of our marriages, and out of our families.
-
And today is day one of a brand new marriage of a brand new
-
generation.
-
The blessing starts with me and the curse breaks with me.
-
And.
-
And by his stripes.
-
Say it with me, Church.
-
We are healed in Jesus name.
-
Did y'all feel a shift?
-
Come on now.
-
I think we're ready to talk about the things that we should want,
-
right?
-
So what should we desire in marriage?
-
So what I did was I just took Ephesians and I broke it down.
-
And so women, I'm gonna start with you.
-
But men, I want to tell you, just hold on because your list is
-
longer.
-
I was laughing so hard.
-
We'll get there in a second.
-
But women, I'm going to talk about submission now again.
-
I know some of yalls eyes are twitching.
-
You're like, I hate submission.
-
I don't want to do this.
-
Like it's so hard.
-
You don't get it.
-
I get it, I get it.
-
I Walked this path, I walked this road.
-
And so I want to tell you, this is an area where I struggle
-
the most and I have the most healing.
-
Like, there are certain areas that, you know, there are just certain
-
areas you have authority.
-
And some people have authority in, you know, in the area of peace.
-
Right?
-
They have authority in the area of faith.
-
I'm telling you.
-
And this is not, this is not a brag.
-
I have authority in the area of submission.
-
So this is an impartation over your life.
-
Women, if this is an area you struggle, I want you to just pull
-
the anointing off my life.
-
I'm telling you, I struggled.
-
And in the area of the most pain is usually the area of your
-
greatest breakthrough and ministry.
-
So I'm just, I'm just telling you because not everybody knows ourselves
-
story.
-
So I want to set that expectation.
-
Women in Ephesians, it says that we should desire to be submissive.
-
So what I believe that the Lord is going to take you on this
-
journey from this over the next month is from a time where you
-
didn't want to be submit submissive to a season of you, a
-
lifetime of you desiring it.
-
I know it's triggering.
-
I know it's hard there.
-
I have times where I don't want to do it.
-
When my husband said we were doing the domino revival, I was like,
-
I'm out.
-
That looks like a lot of work.
-
We're gonna take a lot of heat.
-
Casting out devils in a park.
-
Like, come on.
-
Like, I'm not meant for jail, you know, like, it's not my story.
-
And we had the cops called on us a few times.
-
I'm like, as soon as the cops rolled up, I'm like, wrap it up.
-
We're good.
-
Bye.
-
Like, shut her down.
-
So I'm not the one.
-
But I'm so thankful when I began to trust what the Lord did
-
with my yes.
-
Because I was a big fat no.
-
And he'll tell you so.
-
But here's the thing I learned that when I'm loved, it's easy to
-
submit.
-
Now, men, I want you to pull from this, okay?
-
Because these are lessons where my husband received victory
-
that allowed me to be free and joyfully submit.
-
So when I'm not lorded over, it's easy to submit.
-
When I'm heard, when my heart is heard.
-
You may not take my advice, but when you hear me, it's easy.
-
When I trust.
-
Here's the thing, you're not always going to agree with their
-
decisions.
-
Ladies, you're not always going to Agree with the house they
-
want to buy or the job they want to take or the turn they want
-
to take or the vacation they want to take.
-
But here's what I'm going to tell you.
-
In the seasons and in the times and in the test that I trusted
-
when I submit, even if he's wrong, that the Lord was still my
-
defender and still honored and blessed my obedience.
-
So when you think about it like that, when you're obedient and
-
you're submissive now, you are blessed in every direction.
-
My going is blessed.
-
My coming is blessed.
-
My right is blessed.
-
My left is blessed.
-
I am blessed on every side.
-
Your obedience has power.
-
And when I fully submitted to Mike with a heart that truly wanted
-
to honor and respect him, the weight of my joy and submission sat
-
heavy on his shoulders, and it made him want to make the best and
-
better decisions for our family.
-
Trust me, ladies, I'm telling you, this is not easy.
-
But if you will do this, he will feel the respect that he is
-
craving.
-
Okay, ladies, that was yours.
-
You got one.
-
Men, you have eight.
-
I know some of y'all would if I was a man.
-
Well, really, do you want eight?
-
Cause it talks about them dying.
-
I'm good.
-
You could take it.
-
So, men, your list is longer.
-
Are the men leaned in?
-
Do I have permission to say some hard things?
-
Okay.
-
All right.
-
So, men, you have to love your wife, not.
-
You should.
-
You have to.
-
Jules, that's a little strong.
-
What if I don't feel like it?
-
The Bible says that you have to.
-
You have to do whatever you got to do.
-
Get free.
-
Get deliverance.
-
Get rid of this.
-
Get rid of that friend.
-
Pray in your prayer closet.
-
Read your scriptures fast.
-
You got to get to the point where you could say, I love her.
-
No compromise.
-
You have to love your wife here at number two.
-
You have to give up everything for her.
-
Yes.
-
Video games are included.
-
Somebody felt that.
-
Now, here's the thing.
-
There's no problem with hobbies.
-
Every.
-
Every man should have a hobby.
-
I'm not against hunting.
-
I'm not against fishing.
-
I'm not against gaming.
-
But when it takes precedent over your family, there has to be
-
a reprioritization, because Jesus gave everything up for the
-
church, and you have to be at least willing to give it all up for
-
your spouse.
-
Now, I'll tell you, when Mike's come to me with different
-
things that he's had to give up, do you know what actually happened
-
is when he met me with that, I said, you know what?
-
Truthfully, I wanted control.
-
I wanted you to give that up.
-
But just knowing you're willing, I'm good.
-
Keep doing it.
-
So sometimes, men, you can live in fear, but I would just encourage
-
you, be willing.
-
Number three.
-
Gave his life.
-
Gave it up.
-
Gave everything.
-
Everything.
-
All of it.
-
Everything.
-
Sanctify her.
-
Number four.
-
Sanctify her by washing her in the water.
-
And the word.
-
This is not an option.
-
This is not a suggestion.
-
This isn't something that we think is a good idea.
-
This is scripture.
-
If you want a loving spouse that respects you, you have to teach
-
the word over your life.
-
And let me tell you, we don't care about the delivery.
-
When my husband texts me a scripture, I don't care what he's
-
willing to buy me.
-
No, thank you.
-
I will take the verse.
-
We have to be willing to wash our wives in the word.
-
Number five.
-
Love as their own bodies.
-
Bro, I've seen your trip to the gym.
-
I've seen you go to the tanning thing.
-
I've seen you go to the barber.
-
You guys get all lined up.
-
You crisped your shirt.
-
Like, it's a real whole culture.
-
It's like, I think women get a bad rap for being, like, high maintenance,
-
but I feel like men, y'all have, like, a whole thing.
-
Or maybe it's the way you obsessively clean your car or your
-
gun or you're this or you're that.
-
Like.
-
Like, it's whatever.
-
Like, pick your thing.
-
But the Bible says that if you love, like, however you treat yourself,
-
you have to be willing to give your spouse the same energy back.
-
So if you spend all that time and all that effort into your hobby
-
to make you feel good, my encouragement to you is keep a log
-
of how much time you spend and invest that back into your marriage.
-
You have the time.
-
Delete Netflix off your TV if you have to.
-
And invest into her.
-
Did y'all not like that one?
-
It was quiet.
-
All right.
-
All the women are like, hey.
-
Men number six, leave his family.
-
If you care more about what your mom thinks.
-
Men.
-
Than what your wife thinks, there is a really big red flag.
-
The Bible says it's not about.
-
And I know the boy moms are glaring me down.
-
They were in first service.
-
They're like, keep talking.
-
This is not about leaving your family.
-
In the sense of you don't talk, you don't have a relationship.
-
What it's talking about is that the loyalty is to your wife
-
and the relationship is connected to your family.
-
Does that make sense?
-
So this is not boy moms about you raising up sons to be closer
-
to you.
-
It's raising them up so that they love their wife.
-
And every time they come to you with a complaint, an argument,
-
something she did wrong, you point them back to their spouse,
-
back to their pastor, back to Jesus, back to therapy, and you don't
-
create a toxic bond with yourself.
-
Are you hearing me, boy?
-
Moms.
-
Okay, men, are you hearing me?
-
Okay?
-
Number seven, give his life, give his whole life, everything up.
-
Are you willing to give up the truck so you can get a bigger house
-
for, you know, your other baby?
-
Are you willing to ditch the game console so you can buy a computer
-
for your kids school?
-
Are you willing to give it all up for your spouse and family?
-
Your opinions.
-
Number eight, all of the sacrifice with no glory.
-
Deflecting all glory to the father.
-
Jesus is not asking you men to walk out something that he didn't
-
already walk the road.
-
He gave everything up for the church.
-
And anytime he received glory or accolades, he pointed it right
-
back to the father.
-
So women, we got one.
-
And men, you got eight.
-
I'm sorry.
-
My condolences, ladies.
-
I think we got the good end of the deal.
-
I'm not as offended at submission anymore.
-
I'm good.
-
And I know what you're thinking.
-
You're sitting there, you're like, yeah, if she did that, I would
-
love her.
-
Or, yeah, if he did all those things, I would respect him.
-
And I get it.
-
But you guys are at a stalemate.
-
Nobody can move in any direction because both of you are
-
fighting your own flesh.
-
You're not even fighting each other anymore.
-
So somebody has to be the redeemer.
-
I'm gonna ask the keys to come up at every location.
-
And I wanna encourage you guys that when it comes to this area of
-
going first, you know, a lot of you see my husband and you know,
-
he's funny and our marriage is good and we laugh and, you know,
-
we're able to spend time as a family and it all looks normal.
-
But there was a time in our life where nothing about our life
-
was functional.
-
We threw peanut butter jars.
-
They do break drywall.
-
Just so you're in case you're wondering, we broke every dish of
-
every box of dishes we ever received to the point where I bought
-
Corelle.
-
Do you know what Karel is?
-
Corelle is unbreakable dishes.
-
I was like, I got you, sir.
-
And he still broke one of those.
-
He was an adulterer, he was abusive.
-
And I know that not everybody should stay in those kinds of situations.
-
Like, I get it, I know the scriptures.
-
But I had a picture of restoration in my family, and I said,
-
lord, I'm willing to go first.
-
Now.
-
It should have been him, but someone in the family has to be the
-
Redeemer in the relationship.
-
Obedience does not wait.
-
Obedience is a redeemer.
-
Obedience is a force that unifies marriage.
-
So, men.
-
Yeah.
-
Go first.
-
I think you should.
-
I think it would be beautiful, and I think it would minister to
-
your wife greatly.
-
But, ladies, if you're waiting for him, you are in disobedience.
-
Because redeemers go first.
-
Jesus went all the way to the cross without ever knowing that you
-
would accept him as Savior.
-
And if Jesus is the metaphor for him and the Church, if that's
-
marriage, then we go all the way first.
-
Without any promise of reconciliation, without any promise
-
of change, without any promise that he's ever going to love or cherish.
-
You go first.
-
When I read Ephesians, there's such a conviction that settles in
-
my heart.
-
And I see Jesus as the bridegroom to the church.
-
And I can't help but think that our marriage is a direct reflection
-
of our relationship with Jesus.
-
There is no such thing as a passionate relationship with Jesus
-
and a passionless marriage.
-
Those things cannot be separate.
-
I understand you go through things, but there's.
-
There's a conviction that should settle in your heart.
-
There should be a mirror image of those two worlds.
-
People who don't pray in their relationship with Jesus.
-
My hunch is that you also don't communicate with your spouse.
-
It's a mirror.
-
And we're just going to take a few minutes as we take communion
-
and we're going to reprioritize because some of you
-
have relationships where Jesus is not on the throne.
-
And we're going to put Jesus back on the throne because the Lamb
-
is worthy of his suffering.
-
Would you stand with me, Jesus?
-
We put you on the throne.
-
A bridegroom that gave everything up for his bride, the
-
Redeemer that went first, that paid the debt of our sin and our
-
punishment.
-
His body was broken and his blood was spilled out for the redemption
-
of our sins.
-
And God, we can't do marriage without you.
-
We can't do life without you.
-
There is no healing without you.
-
And so today we remember your body that was broken and beaten for
-
us.
-
If you need the elements at every location, just wave your hand.
-
They'll come to you.
-
Jesus, your body, the pain and the hurt and the suffering of my
-
marriage was on his back.
-
His body was broken for our pain, for our sin.
-
And God, we take your body.
-
Jesus, we remember.
-
Go ahead and take the bread.
-
Ephesians 5:25, 27.
-
It says, Husbands, love your wives.
-
As Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he
-
might sanctifier, having cleansed her by the washing of the
-
water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself
-
in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she
-
might be holy and without blemish.
-
God, we do not receive anything without your blood.
-
And the only way that we can be washed clean is through your blood.
-
And God, as we take the cup, we remember the blood that was poured
-
out for our sin and our shame.
-
He gave up his life for the church, his body broken and his blood
-
spilled out.
-
Let us remember his sacrifice.
-
Would you drink this with me today?
-
How many just felt healing?
-
Come in the room, Church.
-
Would you do this?
-
Would you just lift up your hands at every location?
-
Jesus, we receive your healing virtue in our bodies, in our mind
-
and in our marriage.
-
Lord, we thank you for the healing work of the cross, the finished
-
work.
-
Lord, we thank you that there is power in his blood.
-
And God, I thank you that that power is flowing today in Jesus mighty
-
name.
-
And the church said, Amen.
-
How many feel.
