-
We believe that God has a powerful word for you today.
-
So let's dive in into this amazing message.
-
If you are taking notes today, the title, and we're saying this discipleship series, the title of my sermon is Patient Zero.
-
Patient Zero.
-
And what this concept is, is this is a scientific concept, and where this concept comes from, this concept comes from epidemics and pandemics.
-
Whenever there's an epidemic or a pandemic or COVID-19 or Ebola or the swine flu, and there's a crazy breakout in the world, what the scientists and the researchers are asking, they're asking one question.
-
They're asking, who is patient zero?
-
And I got a question for you before I start my sermon.
-
Who is patient zero?
-
Who is it?
-
Who is patient zero?
-
Now you don't know how to answer that, but by the end of my sermon, you will know how to answer that question.
-
Now, the reason why scientists and researchers are asking the question, who is patient zero?
-
Is because they want to understand the outbreak.
-
They want to understand the virus, the sickness, they want to know where it came from.
-
So they're tracing it back.
-
What village, what island, what's the first person that we could find that was contracted with this virus.
-
Because if we can find patient zero, we can now study the virus.
-
We can see how do you catch it, we can see what are the symptoms when you're carrying it, we can see how contagious it is, and we can also see how to prevent it.
-
So when we find patient zero, we get a ton of information on how to fight, on how to combat, on how to prevent and stop the spreading of a virus.
-
Who is patient zero?
-
And that question isn't just a medical question or a scientific question.
-
I believe it's also a personal question.
-
Because a virus ain't the only thing that can be caught.
-
An attitude can be caught too.
-
Frustration can be caught too, insecurity can be caught too, worry can be caught too, anxiety can be caught too.
-
And if you be honest with yourself, a lot of the things that you're carrying in your life right now, it isn't something that you created, it's something that you caught.
-
That you caught that from somewhere else.
-
Yeah, you got a bad attitude, but you wasn't born with that attitude.
-
You was a cute little goo-goo, goo goo gaga baby, and now you got a bad attitude.
-
You didn't come in this earth like that, you caught that attitude.
-
You didn't come into the earth bitterness, you didn't create bitterness.
-
Do you know bitterness was here before you and bitterness is gonna be here after you?
-
Which means you are not the author and finisher of bitterness, you did not create bitterness.
-
So, how did you get it?
-
You caught it.
-
You are not the author of fear.
-
God ain't even the author of fear.
-
Why?
-
Because he said, I've not given you a spirit of fear, but a power, love, and a sound mind.
-
He's the author of power, love, and a sound mind.
-
God's not the author of fear, and if God didn't author fear, who did?
-
The devil.
-
Then he passed it to people and they caught it from him, and now there's an outbreak of fear into the world, and now you're a little kid, and all of a sudden you're around your parents, or you're around a friend, or you watch something bad, and you caught a spirit that you didn't create.
-
And now we're walking around, we're catching stuff, we're catching stuff all around us.
-
We're picking up on things that did not originate with us.
-
I want you to know something, it's gonna make you feel really good.
-
You ready?
-
Every issue in your life, you did not create, you caught.
-
Well, why is that good news, preacher?
-
It means that it's not you.
-
I've never seen someone walk around and say, I'm a code.
-
I have a code, but I'm not a code.
-
Why are you saying you're not a code?
-
It's because you knew you caught it.
-
And if I caught it, that means I'm not it.
-
Which means everything else you caught, you're not it.
-
But the only difference is this when you catch a cold after 14 days, you lose a cold.
-
Oh, but when you catch bitterness, you never lose it until you renew your mind and get rid of it.
-
So the difference between a virus and you catching a perspective is a virus leaves after the duration because your body is fighting the virus out, but the things that you've been through don't leave.
-
You were around people, you were in environments, and you started catching things.
-
I remember when I was young, I was listening to rap music, and man, it was going, it was it was amazing.
-
I'm listening to this rap music, but all of a sudden, the music was boastful and it put and it demeaned women and it put women down and it and it and exalted myself over other people.
-
And there was some cool flow, there were some cool bars.
-
I'm a fan of music, but then I realized I gotta lay this music down and pick up gospel because I'm catching stuff.
-
And when you catch something, you start carrying stuff.
-
So I'm not I can't listen to that no more, I can't watch that no more, I can't be around these people no more because I'm catching stuff.
-
If you be honest with yourself, there is way more that you catch than you're actually taught.
-
No one sat you down and taught you to be an insecure person.
-
No one was like, hey, this is how you be insecure, this is how you not think much of yourself.
-
All you gotta do is just never believe in yourself.
-
Try that out.
-
Okay, I'll try it.
-
No, that never happened.
-
You watched another insecure person, and maybe they inflicted their insecurity on you, and all of a sudden you caught that insecurity like you catch a virus, and now you're walking around insecure, not because you created it, but because you caught it.
-
And you have to ask yourself whenever you're walking in something, is where did I get this from?
-
Where did I get this from?
-
And who did I get this from?
-
And how did I catch it?
-
Why do I respond like that when I'm created?
-
Um, when I'm corrected, why do I respond like that when something done gone my way?
-
Why do I get so mad?
-
Why do I get so frustrated?
-
I got a hot temper.
-
Where did I get it from?
-
We have to ask ourselves, who is patient zero?
-
Because patient zero is the person that's responsible for spreading this outbreak, and there's been outbreaks in your life, and you have to ask yourself, who is patient zero?
-
Maybe it was someone that you dated, and you were around them and had a spirit on them, and then you looked up and you had a spirit on you.
-
Who is patient zero?
-
Who is patient zero?
-
Maybe it was an uncle.
-
He was promiscuous, he looking at everybody at the gym, all perverted.
-
Next thing you know, you at the gym looking at everybody all perverted.
-
If you're like this in the gym, you need to get out.
-
It's creepy.
-
If you see a dude like this in the gym, exit the premises, okay?
-
He will follow you to your car.
-
Get out of there.
-
So you have to ask yourself these questions.
-
Where did I?
-
Boy, it's hot up in here today.
-
Get this.
-
We forgot to turn on the AC last night.
-
We won't forget again.
-
But this is a reminder that you do not want to go down to the hot place, amen.
-
Boy.
-
I had to re-ax my salvation.
-
I'm like, am I really safe?
-
Because I can't deal with this.
-
Um, who is patient zero?
-
Where did you get the attitude from?
-
What did you get the fear from?
-
Where did you get the habits from?
-
Where did you get that way of thinking?
-
Where did you get that mindset from?
-
That's not your mindset.
-
You got it.
-
Where did you get it from?
-
Who is patient zero?
-
Once upon a time, my daughter was a cute little baby who wasn't a little spoiled, a little brat.
-
I'm gonna just call it what it is.
-
She ain't in here, we good.
-
As a parent, you love your kids, but sometimes you just look at them, you're like, you know what?
-
You a brat.
-
You a brat.
-
And my daughter had become brat.
-
She came a little spoiled.
-
Don't tell her I said it, because she will get me.
-
Okay.
-
I'm talking behind her back right now.
-
I love you, baby girl.
-
But she became a little brat.
-
And I was wondering what she getting.
-
Here's what she would do.
-
When she couldn't get something, she wanted, she would do this.
-
She'd be like, Daddy, can't I get a child?
-
I'm like, not right now.
-
I'm like, where do you get this from?
-
I don't like that.
-
She like, hmm.
-
One day she's sitting on my bed, watching our tablet, and all I hear is, hmm, hmm, hmm.
-
But it didn't sound like her.
-
So I rushed over there, and all of a sudden she's watching this little girl on a cartoon talking about some hmm every time she didn't get something.
-
Hmm.
-
Can I go to the park?
-
No.
-
Hmm.
-
So then they would give the kid what they wanted.
-
Who makes these things?
-
So the kid, when the kid just went, hmm, everyone would bend around her and give her what she wanted.
-
So my daughter was like, you know what?
-
Let's try this on daddy.
-
Hmm.
-
Hmm.
-
And I'm like, whoa.
-
So immediately I turned it off.
-
I'm like, we don't watch that.
-
I'm like, hey, we're Johnsons, okay?
-
Which means we suck it up, buttercup.
-
That hmm ain't gonna work in this family, okay?
-
We don't get what we want, we suck it up, we keep moving, and we trust God.
-
Amen.
-
We ain't finna be hmm.
-
But it wasn't something she came here with.
-
She wasn't like that.
-
She caught it.
-
Her patience zero was that cartoon.
-
Can I go a little deeper?
-
Patience zero isn't always something negative, though.
-
Patience zero could be something positive.
-
I caught generosity.
-
I didn't come in generosity.
-
My mama got stories of me having 17,000 toys and wouldn't share once.
-
She got stories.
-
My mama said one time at Christmas, my cousins came over, had like a trillion toys.
-
And she said, literally, I fought all seven of them to surrender to because they couldn't touch one of my toys.
-
Now I caught that from somewhere, but I don't know who Patience Zero was.
-
But I remember Patience Zero that broke that from me and taught me generosity.
-
And Patience Zero was my sister's ex-boyfriend.
-
His name was Dwayne.
-
He was the most generous human I had ever encountered.
-
Even to this day, he still is.
-
He would buy my sister everything.
-
Valentine's Day, everything.
-
She just had a day.
-
He's like, You're alive today.
-
Here, boom, he just spoiled her.
-
Some of y'all like, where he at?
-
I'll give you his number.
-
Um, right?
-
He got her everything.
-
And not only did he get her everything, he was smart.
-
He would get my mom everything.
-
So he bring her gifts, then he would bring my mom gifts.
-
And then I'm looking like, where's my gift at?
-
He started bringing me gifts.
-
I'm like, oh my gosh, he's amazing.
-
My mom was like, You need to marry him, marry him.
-
You're 14, 15, 16, marry him, marry him, marry him.
-
Now, marry him.
-
And then my mom, when they would want to go on date, she would send me as a little Cud Scout spy.
-
And I would be the third will on their dates.
-
And I was there for one reason and one reason alone.
-
And that was the snitch, snitch, snitch.
-
Snotty no, snitching little brother.
-
And I would just see everything.
-
And then they would like ditch me out looking at some toys that run off.
-
I'm like, yeah, mama, they ran off.
-
They left me, mama.
-
They ditched me.
-
Mm-hmm.
-
Then he just kept getting me stuff.
-
And he started getting me toys and shoes and stuff.
-
And my mom was like, so what they do?
-
I was like, me know nothing.
-
Mama, like, you didn't see nothing.
-
I was like, I can see barely.
-
I can't say.
-
I don't see nothing because he was so generous.
-
But I remember walking away from that.
-
And I was like, one day, when my pockets ain't full of lent, I want to be generous like Dwayne.
-
Shout out Dwayne.
-
And when I got my first girlfriend in middle school, I broke the piggy bank.
-
I got her the biggest bear I could find.
-
And the whole day I was like, I'm just like Dwayne.
-
And it marked me.
-
And I've been generous ever since.
-
And that's a part of me because first I caught it, but now every day I carry it.
-
Once upon a time, I was a coward.
-
And then I watched this movie called Troy.
-
Amazing movie.
-
And Troy was the greatest warrior of all time.
-
He was such a great warrior, he had never been hit.
-
No, you can you can't defeat him.
-
You can't even hit him.
-
He had never been hit.
-
He was the greatest warrior he can look.
-
He take out a whole army by itself almost.
-
He was spectacular.
-
But then there was a prince named Hector.
-
He accidentally executed Troy's nephew because he thought it was.
-
I mean, uh, he accidentally executed Achilles, his nephew, because he thought it was Achilles.
-
Achilles was mad, and the prince Hector was behind the walls, and Achilles came.
-
Hector, come down and fight me.
-
Fight me.
-
Fight me.
-
I was watching this people like Hector, you better not go down there.
-
Don't go fight him.
-
Don't go fight Achilles.
-
Like you better hide.
-
Like I was thinking of all the places I would hide.
-
Oh, that's a good hiding spot right there.
-
That's a good hiding spot.
-
I said, Oh, yeah, right here.
-
Then he had his whole army.
-
He did not have to fight.
-
He could have stayed behind the wall.
-
He had archers on the wall.
-
He had his whole army.
-
And at one command, he could have said, whatever they said, and then all the arrows would have flew.
-
But Achilles said, Come fight me.
-
And Hector kissed his wife as she slid down crying because she knew her husband would be executed.
-
He kissed his kids.
-
He left his army behind.
-
He put on his armor and he went down there and gave Achilles the best fight Achilles ever had, and he lost his life.
-
And when I saw that scene, I learned courage.
-
Courage isn't always winning, but it's always going.
-
It's always standing for truth.
-
It's always fighting necessary battles.
-
And it's not being a coward.
-
And I remember next time I went to football practice, I was little, everyone was big, and I was gonna go home, and I'm like, Hector, give me my helmet.
-
And I went out there and I got laid out.
-
But I was like, Hector, praise God.
-
Give God a shot of praise.
-
Come on, somebody.
-
I was laid out like Hector, but he was my patient zero.
-
Everyone has a patient zero.
-
You catch good things, you catch bad things.
-
And everything, if you stop, some things you wouldn't remember, but everything can be traced back to a TV, a show, to a movie, to a moment, to a person, to a family member.
-
Everything has a patient zero.
-
You came into this earth, born in sin, shaped into iniquity, but even the sins you would commit, you caught those.
-
You were born in sin, but you was also born with a clean slate, and now your sin would get activated by catching everything around you in your environment.
-
You catch what you're around.
-
This is why environment is so important.
-
When someone is struggling, I'm always asking, who are you around?
-
What are you listening to?
-
Who are the influences in your life?
-
Who is patient zero?
-
Because we look at people in this world, and all people are made in the image of God.
-
All people are all people are the Amago Day of God.
-
There isn't good, there isn't all this race of people are good, and this race of people are bad.
-
And they're like that.
-
No.
-
Who is patient zero?
-
If patience zero is bad, nine times out of ten, you're gonna catch bad things.
-
If patience zero is good, generous golly, you're gonna catch good things.
-
And I want you to know, not only bad things can be caught, good things can be caught.
-
You know you can catch someone's prayer life.
-
Come on.
-
You know you can catch someone's peace.
-
Get around a peaceful person, everything starts falling apart, and you see the shalom of God radiating out of them, the power of God, the essence of God.
-
Next time you get in a situation, you're like, forget that.
-
I got the peace of God on me.
-
Why?
-
Because it can be covered, or the joy of the Lord on somebody.
-
And every time you go to them, they have the joy, and they're always happy, and they're always upbeat.
-
You like, you know what?
-
I need to get off this dark cloud, I got a little dark cloud flying on me around.
-
I'm gonna dish this little dark cloud.
-
Why?
-
Because I want joy like this person, I want peace like this person, I want love like this person, I want to be able to forgive like this person and let things go and not be bitter like this person.
-
You catch more than you're taught.
-
You can teach what you know, but far more often you will impart who you are.
-
Your kids are catching things.
-
They're catching things, they're catching things, they're catching things, they're they're catching your mentality, they're catching the way that you handle things.
-
They are catching way more than what you're teaching.
-
Many things can be taught, but most things are God.
-
So let's dig a little deeper.
-
When you catch something, in order to get rid of it, you have to renew your mind.
-
The Bible says to be transformed by the renewing of the mind.
-
And then when you become a believer, you get a new patient zero, and his name is Jesus.
-
And now Jesus is your patient zero, and Jesus is the person you learn from, and Jesus is the person you follow, and he's the one you watch, and he's the one you mirror, and he's the one you become like.
-
Jesus should be your patient zero, which means if we look at you close enough, we should see him.
-
Jesus is patient zero.
-
And everything I read about Jesus, he wasn't coming to bring information, he was coming to bring transformation, and he was coming to bring an outbreak.
-
Jesus was coming to bring revival.
-
He's patient one.
-
So I have a question.
-
If Jesus is patient one, which means he's the place where uh where where generosity starts, he's the place where love starts, he's the place where peace starts, he's the place where joy starts.
-
Jesus is the person where all of these things start because he's patient one.
-
Why?
-
Because Adam was patient one, and then the Bible calls Jesus what the second Adam, which is the second representative, he's the second patient one.
-
Because Adam was defective, God sent us Jesus, who's effective, to be our patient one.
-
So my question is if Jesus is patient one, where did he catch it from?
-
I don't know, let's find out.
-
Go to Luke chapter 4.
Luke 4 chapter mention
-
Luke chapter 4.
Luke 4 chapter mention
-
Are you guys ready to turn there?
-
We'll start at verse 18.
-
But you gotta identify who's the patient one.
-
Because when you identify who patient one is, you can study the condition and figure out how to reverse it.
-
Who is patient one in my life?
-
Where did I get this from?
-
Why do I think like this?
-
Why do I act like this?
-
Why do I walk in this?
-
And then you have to make a conscious shift to say, I'm no longer letting the people that influence me be my patient one.
-
I'm letting Jesus be my patient one, and I'm getting all my cues and everything I'm catching from Christ.
-
Can we give him a shout of praise?
-
Okay, Luke chapter 4, verse 18.
-
It says, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor.
-
He sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recover the sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are being oppressed.
-
Let's read again.
-
The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he has sent me to heal a broke to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and to recover of the sight to the blind, to set liberty to those who are being oppressed.
-
Jesus said, The spirit of the Lord is upon me.
-
Who is the spirit of the Lord?
-
The spirit of the Lord is the Holy Spirit.
-
We have the Trinity, God, the Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
-
He's saying, The Holy Spirit is upon me.
-
Why is the Holy Spirit upon him?
-
Because the Father sent the Holy Spirit down and he descended as a dove unto Jesus.
-
So the Holy Spirit is upon him.
-
And guess what Jesus caught from the Spirit?
-
He caught the anointing.
-
What he said, he said, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, He has anointed me.
-
Why?
-
Because whenever the Spirit is, the anointing, the oil of God follows the Spirit.
-
So Jesus caught the anointing, and to be in literally, um, Jesus the Christ, Christ means anointed one.
-
Christ isn't his last name.
-
So when we say Jesus Christ, we're saying Jesus the anointed one.
-
He's the anointed one because the spirit of the Lord is upon him, he's the anointed one.
-
So, what are we trying to catch?
-
We're catching the anointing.
-
That's what we're catching.
-
When the Spirit of God comes upon us, we catch the anointing.
-
But just like when you catch a cold, you catch a cold, you don't just catch a cold.
-
No, no, no, no, no.
-
You catch symptoms too.
-
Because the moment you're carrying a cold, guess what else you're carrying?
-
A sneeze, a cough, a fever, some shivers, and if it's COVID-19, a uh loss of appetite and loss of taste buds.
-
You can't you can't taste nothing.
-
Not loss of taste buds, but you get what I'm saying.
-
Like you can't taste nothing.
-
You know what I'm saying?
-
Where my taste buds go?
-
That's weird.
-
I don't know.
-
I feel you feel like you lose them.
-
Um, I remember during COVID-19, the Lord spoke to me in the prayer.
-
He said, I want you to pray for everyone in the church with this.
-
I said, Yes, sir, Lord.
-
Send me.
-
Where you send me, I'll go.
-
He said, but I don't want you to go with a mask.
-
I'm like, but the news said, Wear a mask.
-
The medical field says, wear a mask.
-
The doctor said, wear a mask.
-
He said, but what did I say?
-
He said, don't wear no mask.
-
Who you gonna listen to?
-
Uh patient zero Jesus.
-
I'm gonna listen to you.
-
And he told me, he said, and I won't let you catch it.
-
He said, you can pray for them.
-
You ain't gotta run to wash your hands.
-
Wash your hands though, because cleanliness is next to godliness.
-
That's not a scripture, but hey, you get it, right?
-
Um, so I went and I laid hands on everybody that had this COVID-19.
-
I prayed for them, I did not use a mask, and many of them healed, got healed from COVID-19.
-
Amazing, we can clap.
-
And I never caught it.
-
Now, if the Lord would have said, go pray for people with a stomach virus, I'd have been like, find another.
-
I don't play with the stomach virus, okay?
-
I don't play with the if you got it, fist pump me today.
-
Please don't shake my hand because I'm not trying to be walking around all week like this.
-
We don't want that life, you know what I'm saying?
-
Um, but no, if he sent me, I would go for real.
-
Even if I had to walk like that.
-
Um, but it's you know what I'm talking about.
-
Like it's it's it's brutal, it's brutal, okay?
-
It's the most disrespectful thing that can happen to an adult.
-
I'm like, this is for kids, because that's a you too big to be throwing up out of both sides of you.
-
That's too much.
-
Back to Jesus.
-
Let's get back to Jesus.
-
Okay.
-
Back to Jesus.
-
So he's patient zero.
-
So Jesus didn't only have the spirit of the Lord upon him, Jesus had symptoms.
-
What are the symptoms?
-
He preached the gospel to the poor, he healed the brokenhearted, he opened the eyes of the blind, he unstopped deaf ears, he mended the brokenhearted, he brought captivity to those who was held prisoner, which means that the moment he caught the anointing, he carried the symptoms.
-
Which means, if you're not carrying the symptoms of the anointing, are you sure you caught it?
-
Because everything we read about the anointing is not passive, it's active.
-
The anointing is healing people, it's casting out demons, it's setting people free, it's doing ministry, it's making disciples, it's helping people, serving people, loving people, strengthening people.
-
The anointing is active, which means if you're a passive Christian that just stays on your seat, in your seat, are you sure you have an active anointing?
-
Because the anointing isn't just an ornament, it's for assignment to do the work of the Lord and the work of the Holy Spirit to go make a difference, to transform this world.
-
Jesus said, I'm not only catching the anointing, and this is metaphorically speaking, I'm carrying the symptoms of it.
-
This is what anointed ones do.
-
There should be an outbreak.
-
There should be an outbreak.
-
And then the next thing we see, you catch it, you carry it, and you have symptoms.
-
And then lastly, you become contagious and you spread it.
-
And now everyone around you should be catching it.
-
You spread it, and now you're spreading it.
-
And I want you to know something Jesus came to bring a revival, He came to bring a spiritual revival, He came to bring a pandemic all across the world.
-
So every country, every nation, every tribe, every tongue would catch the fire in the presence of God that would catch the anointing of God because he didn't bring something passive, he brought something active and contagious.
-
And if someone gets around you, they should get around him because we was always taught there's four gospels, and that's not true.
-
There is five.
-
We were taught there's Matthew, Mark, look, and John, there's one more gospel, and it's called you.
-
It's Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and you, and sometimes you're the only Bible someone will read.
-
Sometimes you're the only gospel some people will see.
-
And what do they see when they see you?
-
Because when they look at you, they should see him.
-
Are you carrying his spirit?
-
And if you are, you should be walking in his symptoms.
-
And if you're walking in his symptoms, you should be spreading his anointing.
-
So the first thing we have to do is catch it.
-
Everyone say catch it.
-
Everyone again say catch it.
-
I have a scripture I want to read.
-
And the scripture is Mark chapter 3, verse 14 through 15.
-
It says, Then he appointed 12 that they may be with him and that he may send them out to preach.
-
And to have power to heal sickness and to cast out demons.
-
So catch it.
-
Catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it, catch it.
-
How do we catch it?
-
We catch it by getting close to it.
-
You don't catch the flu from across the street.
-
You don't catch a code from across the street.
-
You don't catch a you don't catch COVID-19 from across the street or from or from overseas.
-
You gotta get close to it to catch it.
-
One of the things that catch and get requires is proximity.
-
Proximity.
-
And what did Jesus church access do?
-
He said, Hey, follow me.
-
What do you have to do to follow somebody?
-
Be close.
-
And Jesus said, get close to me, because if you don't get close to me, you will never catch it.
-
The Bible says he called them, he appointed 12.
-
Then he said he called them to be with him.
-
Before he sent them out, he called them to be with him.
-
Why did he call them to be with him?
-
Because how can I catch something from someone I'm not with?
-
I have to be with you to catch anything from you, good or bad.
-
I catch things from people by being with them.
-
Whoever you're with, everything that you do, everything that you have caught in your life, it was from being with somebody.
-
Anything I ask you to do, if you're in this room and you like, if I asked you, you like basketball?
-
Yeah.
-
When did you start playing basketball?
-
Well, when I was a kid, someone gave me a ball.
-
When I was a kid, I went to the park and played with these kids.
-
When I was a kid, my dad played ball with me.
-
When I was a kid, I played basketball with my cousin.
-
When I was a kid, I got put in little league and I played basketball with all the kids in little league.
-
Everything you do is caught.
-
Fact, if you fish in this room, you don't just learn how to fish on your own.
-
How you know that, preacher?
-
Because I didn't learn how to fish on my own.
-
I learned how to fish when I moved to good old Texana.
-
And some of my country friends said, You know how to fish?
-
I said, What's that?
-
They said, Oh, you ain't a man.
-
I said, I guess not.
-
They said, We're gonna make you one day Saturday.
-
We going fishing.
-
We caught a fish, they tried to hand it to me.
-
It's moving.
-
There's like a duh, it's alive.
-
Um, and my friends taught me how to fish.
-
It was something I caught from being around people.
-
I want to fish on my own if I went around people fishing, and you won't fish for lost people unless you're around other people fishing for lost people, because it's not just something you are taught, it's something you catch.
-
That's what Jesus said, follow me, and I'll make you fishers of men.
-
Why?
-
Because if you follow me, you're gonna catch fishermanship.
-
That's not a word, but we're gonna make it one today.
-
Praise God.
-
So you have to be close.
-
When you're close, you start catching stuff.
-
This is why sometimes you send your kids to school and you send your little babies out to school, and then they come back, and you're like, Who are you?
-
And I don't know this attitude you got with me, but ain't nothing in my house trying to be talking back that ain't paying bills.
-
Well, this is how Ashley talks to her parents.
-
I don't care how Ashley talked to her parents.
-
We ain't Ashley parents.
-
Okay?
-
They may deal with that.
-
We will put you out.
-
Want to tell you why?
-
Because I caught homelessness when I stepped to my mama.
-
That's what I caught.
-
And you gonna catch the same.
-
I also caught her hands, too, so be careful.
-
You know what I'm saying?
-
But they go out and they get around friends and they start catching stuff that didn't come from you.
-
And what you gotta start doing is rebuking stuff that you're not gonna have in your house.
-
But that's a different sermon.
-
So you gotta watch who your kids are friends with, you gotta watch who you're around because you catch stuff.
-
You don't just catch stuff from people, you catch stuff from what you watch, from what you listen to, from what you're exposed to.
-
Then we go to the next point, and it's carrying something.
-
You don't just catch it, you start carrying what you caught.
-
You don't just catch pride, you're now a carrier of pride.
-
You don't just catch frustration, you carry frustration.
-
You don't just uh uh uh uh uh catch promiscuity, you start carrying it.
-
You don't just catch lust, you you become a carrier of lust.
-
You carry it, but also you don't just catch peace and not become a carrier of peace, or catch love, and not become a carrier of love, or catch joy, and not become a carrier of joy.
-
When you catch something, you begin to carry what you caught.
-
I wanna I wanna I'm gonna show you if you caught the spirit.
-
Jesus said, the spirit of the Lord is upon me, he has anointed me.
-
I'm gonna show you if you caught the spirit, because if you have the spirit, there should be proof, there should be evidence.
-
I'm gonna show it to you, Galatians 5, 22 to 23, it says, but the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
-
Love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, which means if you have the spirit, the proof of the spirit is the fruit of the spirit.
-
If you don't have fruit, you don't have proof.
-
If you don't have fruit, you don't have proof.
-
Which means that if you have the spirit and you're a carrier of the spirit and you're maturing in it, you should have love.
-
Love should flow out of you.
-
People should be like, Man, you are so loving.
-
Like, oh my gosh, like you're just loving.
-
Why are you so loving?
-
You should have a joy, and people get around you, and they're like, you know what?
-
I want to be around her because she just got so much joy, man.
-
Every time a situation happens, she just has joy or peace, and you go through hardships and chaos and turmoil and things get really tense, and this is where people get mad, and they start fussing and cussing and busting, and you stand in the peace of the Lord, and you say, Peace be still, and you're not taken away by the circumstances of this world because you have the shalom of God and the peace of God that girds your waist.
-
And now, when the storm hits your kids, don't like I want to respond like mama responded, I want to respond like daddy responded, because you have the peace of God, and your fruit is contagious.
-
Or some of you guys are like, I got the fruit of the spirit, but you don't have the proof of the spirit because you can't suffer long.
-
It said long suffering, it's the ability to suffer long.
-
That means you can take it.
-
Some of y'all just I can't take it anymore.
-
Well, your fruit.
-
He has you have long suffering.
-
What is long suffering?
-
The ability to suffer long.
-
You've been suffering for five minutes, you're gonna be okay.
-
We're teaching our kid long suffering now because she's like, I'm hungry.
-
We're like, wait, she's like, I'm hungry! We're like, you got no long suffering.
-
We're gonna make you wait another minute because we do three minutes, you're gonna run us crazy.
-
Um but you gotta have the fruit of the spirit, gentleness and kindness, fruit of the spirit.
-
You know, I've had a chance to meet a ton of pastors, and pastors with big churches and amazing online presences, uh, online ministries and stuff, you meet these guys, you're excited to meet them, and then immediately you realize they don't have no fruit.
-
I don't care how good you preach and how big your church is, you're never like Jesus.
-
You have no fruit.
-
You can build a church, I don't know what all goes into that.
-
You can build a platform or an online audience, but you have no fruit, my friend.
-
And if you have no fruit, it makes you a fraud.
-
You're a fraud.
-
You should have fruit.
-
A man of God, a woman of God, a child of God should have fruit.
-
You should have fruit.
-
You judge a tree by the fruit that it bears.
-
You can actually judge fruit, don't judge me.
-
Judge a tree by the fruit, don't judge you, judge a tree, don't judge judge a tree, don't judge judge a tree by the fruit it bears.
-
I shouldn't prejudge you.
-
Oh, but I could judge the fruit on your tree.
-
You should, which means that if you say you're a believer and you are not kind, I can judge that.
-
If you don't have goodness, I can judge that.
-
If you're not if you don't have faithfulness, if you're not gentle, if you have no self-control, I can judge that because you should have fruit.
-
And it broke my heart to see how many pastors had none.
-
You should have fruit.
-
It should be evident.
-
Someone should get a gist that you're a strong believer, leader, or pastor without you telling them.
-
I was uh in my office this week um doing a sale.
-
Um, you know, we make baseball, softball, jerseys, basketball jerseys, all that good stuff.
-
You need some uniforms, holler at us.
-
Free plug, let's go.
-
Um but we make all that.
-
So I'm building a guy's jersey.
-
We're in my office, and he's talking to me, and he's just like, Man, there's something different about you, man.
-
I'm like, okay, awesome.
-
He's like, man, it's just some.
-
He's like going back and forth because he just he just can't relent.
-
He's like, something's like, what is it?
-
Why, why, why, what, what?
-
And you know, I try not to just always just throw my faith on everybody.
-
I try to build relationships and and and you know, relationally evangelize.
-
You know, I will sometimes just jump out there.
-
I ain't scared, let's go.
-
I just try to be effective.
-
Um, and he just kept hammering me about what's different about me.
-
And finally, I was like, Well, I am a pastor, too.
-
He said, Ah, that's it.
-
He said, I knew I felt God.
-
I never said anything about God, I never quoted a scripture or a verse or used weird Christian needs like some of you guys.
-
Blessing Holly Faith God's made his jersey and had fruit radiating out of me.
-
And you should be the same way at your job, in your family, around everyone, around your kids, they should pick up on guiding you.
-
Are you contagious?
-
Are you spreading the gospel?
-
Because Jesus said, Go into all the world and make disciples.
-
And when you spread the gospel, it should get contagious.
-
It should be contagious.
-
You should be spreading the gospel.
-
People should be getting, uh, people should be catching the spirit and catching God.
-
Um, there was a guy on Facebook, you guys probably saw him.
-
He said he was gonna do a 30-day challenge of reading the Bible and praying and doing all the Christian things to prove God ain't real.
-
He got to like day 14.
-
He was like, I was loving his job.
-
You're gonna catch what you're close to.
-
You don't get that close to God and his word and not catch it.
-
You don't get that close to God's people and not catch it, you don't get that close to God's spirit and not catch it.
-
Um, you carrying the anointing, because if you are, everyone around you should be catching it.
-
Can we give God a shout of praise in this place?
-
As I get ready to close.
-
As I get ready to close.
-
Paul said something so powerful.
-
He said, Imitate me as I imitate Christ.
-
Imitate me as I imitate Christ.
-
What was he saying?
-
He was saying, I got it from Jesus because I was close to him.
-
I know him, I talked to him, I had a relationship with him.
-
I got it from Jesus, now you can come and catch it from me.
-
I am spreading what I got from Jesus.
-
And I want you to know something, because I asked a question at the beginning of the sermon.
-
I said, Who is patient zero?
-
There's three of them.
-
The first patient zero is the people that influenced you in your past.
-
The second patient zero is Jesus who's influencing you in the present.
-
And the third patient zero is you.
-
It's who you're gonna influence in the future.
-
You are patient zero.
-
You can say what you want to your kids, but they're gonna catch who you are.
-
You can say what you want to this world, they're gonna catch who you are.
-
You can preach to your blue in the face, but the greatest sermon you will ever preach is the life you live.
-
He didn't say they would go and witness, though we do that.
-
He said they shall be witnesses.
-
This is who you become.
-
I will make you fishers of men.
-
This is who you are.
-
You catch it, you carry it, and you become contagious, and you spread it all across the world.
-
He said, Go into all the world and make disciples.
-
Let there be an outbreak, let there be a spiritual pandemic where the presence of God is all over your job, all over your house, all over your city, all over our society and our nation because we are radical for Jesus.
-
We're not backing down, we're not standing ground, we're taking force and ground for the kingdom of God.
-
We're not bound to the things of this world, we're not bound to society, we're not bound to agendas, we're gonna stand tall for Jesus, and we're gonna spread this gospel across this planet because that's what our patient zero asks us to do.
-
You have to stop for a moment, and you have to answer one question.
-
Who is my patient zero?
-
That can't be your drunk uncle, that can't be your culture, it can't be your skin color, it has to be Christ.
-
And when he's patient zero, we turn this world upside down.
-
Everyone's saying Wow, what a powerful message.
-
We hope it blessed you.
-
Make sure to share it with your friends, family, and coworkers so they can be blessed as well.
