  1. Good morning, family. How are you guys doing?

  2. Turn to 2 Timothy chapter 4. We will finish this

    2 Timothy 4 chapter mention

  3. letter today after we do the reading. Yep. Just

  4. getting ready. Thank you. All right. I will read

  5. a question. Heidelberg Catechism, you will read

  6. the answer. Question number 52. How does Christ

  7. return to judge the living and the dead comfort

  8. you? In all distress and persecution with an

  9. uplifted head, I confidently await the very judge

  10. who has already offered himself to the judgment

  11. of God in my place and remove the whole curse

  12. from me. Christ will cast... all his enemies

  13. and mine into everlasting condemnation, but will

  14. take me and all of his chosen ones to himself

  15. into joy and the glory of heaven. Amen. Isn't

  16. that beautiful? I don't know, that gives me comfort.

  17. So let's pray and we'll get started. Father,

  18. I want to thank you so much for your goodness.

  19. Thank you, Lord, for your word. Thank you for

  20. this wonderful letter. I pray, Lord, as we go

  21. through this, a letter of 2 Timothy chapter 4,

    2 Timothy 4 chapter mention

  22. that we really see the emphasis on the Word of

  23. God. that the truth of God prevails, and that

  24. we are responsible to be a steward and a caregiver

  25. of that word, and to proclaim the word in the

  26. gospel in season and out of season, Lord, and

  27. that we stand firm on the rock of Christ, the

  28. sureness of our salvation. Lord, we do praise

  29. you and thank you for your faithfulness and goodness.

  30. May the full counsel of your word be spoken.

  31. Help us to rightly divide it for your glory.

  32. In Jesus' name, amen. So we do have several new

  33. people. We are an expository church. We preach

  34. verse by verse. You will see that. Even though

  35. I'll be summarizing this chapter, we will go

  36. through every verse. I will not give you all

  37. the information because if I did, I'd run out

  38. of things to preach, and I want to go back eventually

  39. in a couple years to these letters, hopefully.

  40. So we have a lot to look forward to, and we have

  41. a lot to look forward to through the Word. So

  42. let's get started. I charge you in the presence

  43. of God, chapter 4, verse 1. and of Christ Jesus,

  44. who is to judge the living and the dead, and

  45. by his appearing and his kingdom. Preach the

  46. word. Be ready in season and out of season. Reprove,

  47. rebuke, and exhort with complete patience and

  48. teaching. For the time is coming when people

  49. will not endure sound teaching and have itching

  50. ears that will accumulate for themselves teachers

  51. to suit their own passions and will turn away

  52. from listening to the truth and wander off into

  53. myths. As for you, always be sober -minded. Endure

  54. suffering. Do the work of an evangelist. Fulfill

  55. your ministry. For I am already being poured

  56. out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure

  57. has come. I have fought the good fight. I have

  58. finished the race. I have kept the faith. Henceforth

  59. there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness,

  60. which the Lord, the righteous judge, will reward

  61. to me on that day, and not only to me, but also

  62. to all who loved his appearing. Do your best

  63. to come to me soon. For Demas, in love with this

  64. present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica.

  65. Cretans has gone to Galatia. Titus to Damasia

  66. is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you,

  67. for he is very useful to me for the ministry.

  68. Tychicus, I have sent to Ephesus. When you come,

  69. Bring the cloak that I have left with Carpus

  70. at Troas, also the books and above all the parchments.

  71. Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm.

  72. The Lord will repay him according to his deeds.

  73. Beware of him yourself, for he strongly opposes

  74. our message. At my first defense, no one came

  75. to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not

  76. be charged against them. But the Lord stood by

  77. me and strengthened me so that through me the

  78. message might be fully proclaimed and all the

  79. Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from

  80. the lion's mouth. The Lord will rescue me from

  81. every evil deed and bring me safely into his

  82. heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and

  83. ever. Amen. Prisca and Aquila and the household

  84. of Onesiphorus. Eretus remained in Corinth, and

  85. I left Tromfimus at Maltus. Do your best to come

  86. before winter. Eubulus sends greetings to you,

  87. as do Pudens and Linus, Claudia, and all the

  88. brothers. The Lord be with your spirit. Grace.

  89. be with you. Today's message is still on biblical

  90. manhood and biblical womanhood. I want the men,

  91. specifically all believers, but specifically

  92. men, pay attention to how Paul talks to Timothy

  93. here. Living by the truth in the days of apostasy

  94. is the message. Principle number one, God's people

  95. must always be ready to proclaim the gospel to

  96. anyone and everyone. So some very important things

  97. I want you to pay attention to in verse 1 and

  98. 2. The first is the word charge. I charge. I

  99. earnestly call you Timothy. This is a earnest

  100. call to Timothy in the presence of God and of

  101. Christ Jesus. This word presence is not that

  102. he's just here, even though he's here. This word

  103. presence means by the authority of. So look at

  104. here from this perspective. I earnestly call

  105. you by the authority of God and of Christ Jesus,

  106. who is to judge the living and the dead by his

  107. appearing and his kingdom. This is what you need

  108. to do. The charge is to preach. The charge is

  109. to reprove. The charge is to rebuke. You'll see

  110. this. I charge you. I earnestly call you by the

  111. authority of God to do these things. Preach.

  112. Keruso. Keruso means to proclaim. Proclaim what?

  113. The word, the logos. What are you to proclaim?

  114. The gospel. The gospel in its entirety. Your

  115. responsibility is to preach the full counsel

  116. of God's word, specifically the full counsel

  117. of the gospel of God. It isn't. It isn't, and

  118. I'm going to call names out because I've been

  119. on a soapbox since I started preaching this morning.

  120. So I'm going to be on a soapbox. I'm warning

  121. you, okay? It is not Rick Warren. Say this prayer.

  122. Welcome to the family. Saying a prayer doesn't

  123. get you in heaven. Your prayer doesn't get you

  124. there. It's the work alone in Christ alone by

  125. the blood of Christ alone through the cross alone,

  126. which is by the scripture alone that gets you

  127. there. Christ alone gets you there. I want you

  128. to get that. Okay? That's important. So when

  129. we preach, we preach the full counsel of the

  130. word of God. What is the gospel? You guys know.

  131. We've been talking about it. What's the gospel?

  132. Christ? Crucified? Buried? There you go. Let's

  133. go, you guys. All right. That's the gospel. Full

  134. gospel. And God, Christ, calls all to repent

  135. and believe the gospel. Notice, repentance is

  136. a necessity. Repentance is a turning to God away

  137. from sin. It's not just the changing of the mind.

  138. It's a total regeneration, transformation, renewal

  139. in the life and the heart of the individual.

  140. And only the Holy Spirit can do that. We know

  141. that through the regeneration work of God, takes

  142. a dead person, makes them alive through the preaching

  143. of the gospel by which faith is planted into

  144. the person. The Holy Spirit regenerates that

  145. faith into the life of the believer, into the

  146. life of the person. That dead person becomes

  147. alive and they say, happy birthday. Jesus is

  148. Lord. Happy birthday. You'll get it. It's Frosty

  149. the Snowman. I said this at Christmas. If you

  150. ever watch Frosty the Snowman, I told you I'm

  151. convinced it is a Christian cartoon. He puts

  152. a hat on, and what's he say? Happy birthday.

  153. He's dead, and now he's alive. Okay? So I want

  154. you to pay attention to that. And the other thing

  155. I want you to notice is he puts on a hat. He

  156. puts on the helmet of salvation. I'm just saying.

  157. I'm just saying. Okay. So pay attention. Here

  158. we go. So you preach the word, he says. Don't

  159. just earnestly call by the authority of God to

  160. preach the word. Teach the full counsel of the

  161. word of God to your families, men. Your responsibility

  162. is to prove that what I'm teaching is true. The

  163. problem in churches today is they have preachers

  164. that sit behind pulpits, tell people what they

  165. want to hear. The people go, well, it's got to

  166. be the final authority of the word of God because

  167. the preacher said it. They don't go home and

  168. test the word through the word to determine if

  169. that was true. They believe it, and immediately

  170. churches explode into this massive growth, and

  171. they fill you full of fluffy. No, your job as

  172. man is to listen to the preacher, teacher, take

  173. what the preacher, teacher has said, verify that,

  174. and instill it, if it's true, into your family.

  175. If it's not true, instill the word, because that's

  176. what you're doing. If the preacher's preaching

  177. the word, he's preaching the word in its entirety,

  178. and it's sound, you're preaching and teaching

  179. the word to your family. Okay? And for the ladies,

  180. if there's not a man in the home, your support

  181. is the church. Okay? We have pastors and elders

  182. to help you do that. Very important. Preach.

  183. Preach the word. Every single morning. One of

  184. the things I didn't mention in first service

  185. that I'll mention now is preach the word to yourself.

  186. The gospel. Love the gospel. There is nothing

  187. greater on the planet than the gospel and King

  188. Jesus, the one who has given us his gospel. Be

  189. ready in season. This word, be ready in season,

  190. means when the opportunity arises. Example, Jesus

  191. sends them out two by two. What do they do? They

  192. knock on the door. Jesus says, if you knock on

  193. the door and a man of peace answers and he lets

  194. you in, stay as long as they allow you. And when

  195. your welcome is done, leave and go on to the

  196. next house. If you knock on the door and there's

  197. not a person of peace and they reject you, wipe

  198. the dust off your feet and go to the next person.

  199. That's what this means here. When the opportunity

  200. arises, there should be people of peace when

  201. you go to preach the gospel and tell someone

  202. about Jesus that they're going to want to hear

  203. it. If they want to hear it, your opportunity

  204. is there. But there's one more. It's the out

  205. of season. Be ready in season and out of season.

  206. Out of season means when there is no opportunities.

  207. In other words, you should be preaching the gospel

  208. to every creature, even when there isn't an opportunity.

  209. Even when you knock on the door and the person

  210. of peace doesn't want to hear it, and you go,

  211. you know, Jesus loves you, and if you die in

  212. your sin, you're going to go to hell, and he

  213. died on the cross, was buried, rose again on

  214. the third day to give you life. Sorry, I don't

  215. want any. No, it's not Jehovah's Witness. It's

  216. okay. The point is that we preach when we have

  217. the opportunities, and we preach even when. How

  218. do we preach? Why should we preach? Well, we

  219. preach for the purpose of reproving. We have

  220. been charged by the authority of God to preach

  221. and to reprove. Reprove means to reprehend severely.

  222. How about in the church? Can you think about

  223. that? So the scripture says in Corinthians that

  224. are we to judge those outside of the church?

  225. Most people say, no, thou shall not judge. For

  226. the measure by which you judge, you shall be

  227. judged. Take the log out of your own eye before

  228. you judge the speck in your brother's eye. But

  229. you know the Bible says that we are to judge

  230. those in the church. It's right here. And it's

  231. in 1 Corinthians chapter 4. 1 Corinthians chapter

1 Corinthians 4 chapter mention 1 Corinthians 4 chapter mention

  232. 4, reprove. How can I reprehend you severely

  233. for your junk, for your trash, for your sin,

  234. if I have to worry about you thinking that I'm

  235. being judgmental? Will iron sharpen iron? No.

  236. We must reprove, especially as elders. That's

  237. why we must walk circumspect. We don't go in.

  238. condemning and beating, we come in with patience

  239. and teaching. So we reprove, we reprehend severely,

  240. and we admonish. The second, rebuke, censure

  241. severely, and assign fault. That's why we have

  242. church discipline. Church discipline not only

  243. assigns fault, but removes the unrepentant, deals

  244. with the unrepentant, or severely censures the

  245. unrepentant. limits the amount of activity that

  246. person has within the body because they're not

  247. willing to align themselves with Christ. It's

  248. hard. The third, exhort, means to urge, admonish,

  249. warn, and advise. Isn't that interesting? So

  250. God has called us, earnestly called us, and has

  251. given us authority by his own purpose and plan

  252. to preach, to reprove, to rebuke, and to exhort.

  253. How should we, as men, do these things? And as

  254. women of God do these things, we must do it with

  255. complete, in all manner, patience. This word

  256. patience means forbearance and teaching. We don't

  257. just do this because we think we have authority.

  258. The only thing that can change the heart of any

  259. and every individual is the word. Not your way,

  260. not what you think, not what you demand. What

  261. the word of God says, the word of God becomes

  262. the teacher, as Paul states. We also know that

  263. because he states it in Timothy, 1 Timothy, 2

  264. Timothy, sorry, chapter 1. Look what it says.

  265. Chapter 1, verse 13 and 14. the good deposit

  266. entrusted to you. Pay attention. It's the word

  267. of God that matters, okay? Patience and teachings,

  268. forbearance and teaching. Look what it says here,

  269. 2 Timothy 2, verse 1 and 2. And then, my child,

    2 Timothy 2:1

  270. be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ

  271. Jesus and what you have heard from me in the

  272. presence of many witnesses. Entrust to faithful

  273. men who will be able to teach others also. You're

  274. starting to hear a common theme here, aren't

  275. you? Chapter 3, verse 13 through 17. On from

  276. bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But

  277. as for you, continue in what you have learned

  278. and have firmly believed, knowing from who you

  279. learned it. and how from childhood you have been

  280. acquainted with the sacred writings which are

  281. able to make you wise for salvation through faith

  282. in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out

  283. by God and is profitable for... teaching, reproof,

  284. correction, and training in righteousness, that

  285. the man of God may be complete, equipped for

  286. every good work. What is the common theme here

  287. in all four chapters? The Word of God. I can

  288. preach and teach all day long, but if you don't

  289. go home and allow the Word of God to do the work

  290. in your life, you will not change. You guys should

  291. know that. I've asked you guys to memorize it.

  292. If you haven't memorized it, please memorize

  293. it. It's one of the main verses I memorized when

  294. I first got saved. Therefore, I urge you, brothers,

  295. in the view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies

  296. as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing unto

  297. God, for this is your reasonable act of worship.

  298. And do not be conformed to the pattern of this

  299. world, but be transformed by the renewing of

  300. your minds so you can test and approve what God's

  301. will is, His good, pleasing, and perfect will.

  302. And there is only one place to find His will.

  303. It's not with those false... That call themselves

  304. pastors tell you the will and purpose of God

  305. is here. You don't have to go discover it. God

  306. didn't create your own purpose for you. Your

  307. job is not your purpose. Jesus is your purpose.

  308. Proclaim Christ where you're at. That's the important

  309. part. Whatever you do, whatever you do, it's

  310. Christ is your purpose. Now, second principle.

  311. God's people hold to sound doctrine and to stand

  312. solely on the rock of truth. Ephesians 4, 13

  313. through 14. until we attain the unity of the

  314. faith and the knowledge of the Son of God to

  315. mature manhood to the measure and stature of

  316. the fullness of Christ so that we may no longer

  317. be tossed to and fro by ways and carried about

  318. by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning and

  319. by craftiness and deceitful schemes. Why? Look

  320. what it says in verse 3 and 4 of 2 Timothy 4.

  321. For the time is coming. The time is when people

  322. will not endure. People will not bear. They will

  323. not tolerate sound teaching. They will not tolerate

  324. the inerrant truth and doctrine of God. We are

  325. now. We have people that are teaching and preaching,

  326. and we have things going on in our society that

  327. are antithetical in every way to Christ and his

  328. gospel and his word. Not every preacher that

  329. you see on TV is good. I'm about to offend some

  330. older folks, maybe some younger ones. So I'm

  331. going to give you one. You guys are going to

  332. be shocked. Let's deal with this issue. They

  333. will not tolerate sound teaching, but having

  334. itching ears, they will accumulate, they will

  335. heap up, they will accumulate in piles. Teachers

  336. to suit their own passions, their own desires

  337. that are forbidden, their own lusts, and will

  338. turn away from listening to the truth and wander

  339. off, go astray into myths, into fictions, into

  340. fables, into imaginations, and into dispensationalism.

  341. Why? Because it doesn't teach the sovereignty

  342. of Christ. It doesn't teach the kingship of Jesus.

  343. It teaches the kingship of you. While you're

  344. busy looking at the world events, you're not

  345. looking up, as Paul states. We loved his appearing.

  346. While you're busy looking at whether the mark

  347. of the beast is coming or whether Israel's built

  348. a temple or you're busy looking at whether...

  349. Israel owns the land of Israel. You're not busy

  350. looking for Jesus. It takes your focus off the

  351. king and puts your focus on you. Why? Because

  352. you want to escape what's coming. God has promised

  353. we will escape that. So why are we so focused

  354. on escaping it? Why are we so intent of getting

  355. ready when the only thing we should be ready

  356. on is the earnest call of the believer to preach

  357. the word? Now here's my, I had a particular individual

  358. I talked about today. I know some of you probably

  359. watch him and you feel like he was a good teacher

  360. and I felt he was pretty okay. But it's at a

  361. level where it's ridiculous. David Jeremiah.

  362. He makes millions off of selling the end times

  363. to you. It's enough. My call to him is to preach

  364. the gospel, David. Preach the full counsel of

  365. the word of God, which you've done in the past,

  366. which you're not doing now. You're too focused

  367. on what you think is happening in the world.

  368. The people of God, if they're preaching the full

  369. counsel of God's word, focused on the gospel,

  370. are ready for his return. Stop trying to get

  371. people ready. You get people ready by preaching

  372. the gospel and getting them to do the work of

  373. the ministry. How do we know that? What does

  374. Jesus say? We're going to see that next. What

  375. does Jesus say? Be ready. How are we ready? Do

  376. the work of an evangelist, he says. Isn't that

  377. what he just said? Do the work of an evangelist.

  378. Preach the gospel. He doesn't say, hey, get ready

  379. for Jesus' return. I'm looking up as I'm working

  380. out. That's the idea here. Third principle. God's

  381. people work with all diligence not to be found

  382. idle when our Lord returns, eagerly watching

  383. and serving. Until that great day. That's what

  384. you need to be doing. That's your purpose. That's

  385. the purpose and plan. One purpose, one plan.

  386. Whether you work in construction. One God. One

  387. faith. One baptism. One way. The gospel. Christ.

  388. That's your purpose. Whether you do art. Whatever

  389. you do. The gospel. Christ. That's it. Whether

  390. you're an electrician. Whether you work at a

  391. donut shop. The gospel, a bank, the gospel. Everywhere

  392. you go, it's Christ and him crucified. Do the

  393. work of an evangelist. Look what he says here.

  394. Luke chapter 12, verse 43. Blessed is the servant.

    Luke 12:43

  395. Blessed is that servant whom his master will

  396. find so doing when he comes. 2 Timothy 3, 5 through

  397. 8. As for you, Timothy. Always is the term in

  398. the ESV. Empos, meaning in all circumstances,

  399. in all things, in all ways, all the time. Be

  400. sober -minded. Be circumspect. Be clear -headed.

  401. Young men, be circumspect. Clear -headed. Focus

  402. on the goal that is set before you. Run the race.

  403. Run it hard. Don't stop running. Endure suffering.

  404. I want you to notice that. He doesn't say you're

  405. going to have your best life now. He doesn't

  406. say that God doesn't want you to suffer. God

  407. wants you to suffer. Godliness. Suffer produces

  408. endurance. Endurance produces patience. Patience

  409. produces character. Character produces integrity.

  410. Look, endure suffering. You cannot be an evangelist

  411. if you're not suffering. People must be comfortable

  412. with the gospel preach. Do the work of an evangelist.

  413. Fulfill. Bring to bear. Make full your ministry.

  414. Hear that, Owen. That is your focus, okay? For

  415. I am already being poured out as a drink offering,

  416. and the time of my departure has come. Paul realizes

  417. I am going to die, and my work is finished. I'm

  418. done. Look at his attitude. It's beautiful. Many

  419. preachers preach on this, but I want you to hear

  420. why Paul states it the way he does. I have fought.

  421. I have struggled with difficulty and danger.

  422. What has he struggled with difficulty and danger?

  423. The good fight. The praiseworthy contest. Do

  424. you guys know that the Christian life is a praiseworthy

  425. contest? It's a praiseworthy race. Win, run as

  426. if you are going to win the prize because you

  427. will. Christ is your prize. Look what it says

  428. here. I have finished. My race, my praiseworthy

  429. contest has come to a close. The race, the course

  430. of life, I have kept the faith. How many of you

  431. guys thought about that? Your life literally

  432. is a race, a course of life. You're literally

  433. on the running course of life in everything that

  434. comes with it. Then look, henceforth, meaning

  435. the future, in the future, there is laid up,

  436. there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness.

  437. Isn't that nice? And what's amazing is I get

  438. to take this wonderful, beautiful crown of righteousness

  439. and lay it at the feet of Christ and say, no,

  440. you are my righteousness. What a beautiful picture.

  441. Notice, it's the Lord, the righteous judge. That

  442. will reward it to me on that day is what he says.

  443. Christ, when you're done and you ran the race,

  444. he will take that crown and lay it before you.

  445. And you will in love and adoration and worship

  446. lay it before his feet and say, no, you're my

  447. righteousness. You deserve the glory and the

  448. praise and gratitude. Look at verse 1. What day

  449. is he talking about? Verse 1, chapter 4, verse

  450. 1. I charge you in the presence of God and of

  451. Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and

  452. the dead by his appearing and his kingdom. That

  453. day is what Paul's talking about. What day? Revelation

  454. 20. There is only one judgment seat. There's

  455. not the Bema seat, as the dispensationalists

  456. teach, for the righteous of God. And then there's

  457. not the throne judgment for the wicked. Read

  458. Revelation 20. Look what it says here. And the

  459. sea gave up the dead that were in it. And death

  460. and Hades gave up the dead that were in them.

  461. And they were judged, each one according to what

  462. he has done. Let's go up a little bit. Verse

  463. 12. Okay? Verse 12. And I saw the dead, great

  464. and small, standing before the throne, and books

  465. were opened. Then another book was opened. Notice.

  466. Which is the book of life. By what was written

  467. in the books according to what they had done.

  468. Everyone is judged on that day. Everyone is judged

  469. on that day. Turn to Luke chapter 12. Luke chapter

Luke 12 chapter mention Luke 12:41

  470. 12 verse 41. Peter said, are you telling this

  471. parable for all of us? For us or for all? And

  472. the Lord said, who then is the faithful and wise

  473. manager? whom his master has set over his household

  474. to give them their portion of food. Blessed is

  475. the servant whom his master will find so doing

  476. when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will set

  477. him over. all his possessions. But if that servant

  478. says to himself, my master is delayed in coming

  479. and begins to beat the male and female servants

  480. and to eat and drink and get drunk, it doesn't

  481. matter. Jesus isn't going to return. I can live

  482. any way I want to. The master of that servant

  483. will come on a day when he does not expect him

  484. and at that hour he does not know and will cut

  485. him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful.

  486. Look what it says in 47. And the servant who

  487. knew his master's will but did not get ready

  488. or act according to his will will receive a severe

  489. beating. And look what else it says. But the

  490. one who did not know. will receive a light beating,

  491. everyone to whom which much is given, of him

  492. much is required. And from him to whom they entrusted

  493. much, they will demand the more. Now understand

  494. this, those who claim that they're believers

  495. in Jesus and know the truth, live like the devil,

  496. I'll give those quotes, God will demand a higher

  497. accountability for you. God will rescue his people

  498. and bring us safely home. Colossians chapter

    Colossians 1:13–14

  499. 1 verse 13 through 14. He has delivered us from

  500. the domain of darkness and transferred us to

  501. the kingdom of the son he loves in whom we have

  502. redemption, the forgiveness of sin. I'm going

  503. to summarize verses 9 through 21. I want you

  504. to pay attention to a couple things here. First,

  505. Demas. Demas was a quote unquote believer. Supposed

  506. to be in unity with Paul and the mission of the

  507. gospel. But Demas was in love with this present

  508. world. And as a result, he deserted and the kingdom

  509. and the gospel and gone to Thessalonica. He abandoned

  510. his post. Don't abandon your post. Next, verse

  511. 11. Out of everybody. Luke alone is with him.

  512. I talked to you guys before about how I really

  513. believed that the letter to the Hebrews is Paulian.

  514. I believe that Paul is the one who gave the letter

  515. and that Luke is the one who penned it for him.

  516. Why? Because there is Paulian language and there's

  517. Lukean language in the letter. So as Paul was

  518. communicating this through Luke's personality,

  519. you see. his hand in it. Why? Because both were

  520. inspired writers of the Word of God. Next, notice

  521. he says, Mark, bring him with you. He is very

  522. useful to me for the ministry. I want you all

  523. to be like a mark. Be useful to the ministry

  524. of the gospel of Jesus Christ in every and all

  525. circumstances, as we read earlier. Paul requests

  526. several things. First, he says, bring the cloak.

  527. I think the reason why he asked for the cloak

  528. It's because I think he wants to be buried in

  529. it. Okay? Next. And then he asks for the books.

  530. Why the books? Why books? Because Paul has written

  531. all of these letters. He asks for books. Bring

  532. the word of God to me. Of the things he's asking

  533. for, he wants the parchments. He wants the word

  534. of God. Amazing. Do you desire the word? This

  535. is before the New Testament was completed. The

  536. Bible was not in its entirety. And Paul says,

  537. I want the word. Man does not live by bread alone,

  538. but by every word that comes from the mouth of

  539. God. The law of God is honey, sweet to the taste.

  540. Then he says, concerning Alexander, this guy,

  541. this fake believer, this faux Christian, he's

  542. evil. Straight up just basically says that. He

  543. did great harm to me, and the Lord will repay

  544. him according to his deeds. And then he warns,

  545. and I warn you all. Pay attention to those. You'll

  546. know them by the word. Here's what he says. Avoid

  547. him too. Guard yourself. Beware. 17. Out of everyone

  548. that left Paul, everyone abandoned Paul when

  549. he was under the pressure. And he begs for mercy

  550. on them. He says, but one did not. One did not

  551. abandon me. The Lord stood by me and strengthened

  552. me. You're never alone. God is always present.

  553. Christ is always present. He is in you. If you

  554. know him, he lives in you. You are the temple

  555. of God. So that. Here's why Christ did not abandon

  556. him. Christ stood by him because he belongs to

  557. Christ. Christ strengthened him because he belongs

  558. to Christ. This is why we are reformed. It's

  559. called the perseverance of the saints. You will

  560. persevere. Not only in this life here, but in

  561. the life to come, you will. He will keep you

  562. from the hour of trial. You are not children

  563. of darkness, but children of light. You are not

  564. children of wrath, but children of God. He will

  565. deliver you. And this is what Paul says. Why?

  566. So that the message, the gospel, might be fully

  567. proclaimed to every Gentile. That's what he says

  568. in verse 17. But notice some very important things

  569. here. Verse 18. The Lord will rescue me. No one

  570. else will. Christ and Christ alone will rescue

  571. you. Guaranteed. And bring me safely into his

  572. heavenly kingdom. I will go home one day. And

  573. he ends it with this statement. To him be glory

  574. forever and ever. Amen. That's our God. Preach

  575. the gospel. Do the ministry. Work hard. It's

  576. my charge to you. So when I get back, we work

  577. hard together. Amen? All right. Father, I want

  578. to thank you so much for your goodness and faithfulness.

  579. Thank you, Lord, for your word. Thank you that

  580. you have accomplished and continue to accomplish

  581. your will and plan and purpose in Christ. All

  582. things are complete in him. We give you praise.

  583. Thank you for your work of sanctification. In

  584. Jesus' name, amen.
