  1. Just to say hello again, welcome.

  2. If this is your first time, my name is James.

  3. I'm part of the community here.

  4. Actually, today is a special day because we've been here in this place doing this for one year now.

  5. This is technically week 52 of what we've been doing.

  6. Well, yeah, that's great.

  7. Yeah, we've...

  8. No one's died yet here.

  9. We've not run away from...

  10. Had to run away from any fires just yet, but we're praying the Lord will continue to bless us.

  11. But you know, there's one reflection that I had about this year.

  12. I was like, you know, I love this time that we get together.

  13. I love this time that we get to just come to worship together.

  14. But honestly, we're not doing anything that different.

  15. If you think about the service that we are putting on on a Sunday, it's pretty similar.

  16. You come in, and then we put some lyrics on, and then we all sing karaoke for a little bit.

  17. And then we do some announcements, and then someone comes up and shares for a while.

  18. And then we have one response song that we like to sing.

  19. So instead of responding to the sermon with our lives, we choose just to do it with a song first

  20. and just sometimes leave it at that.

  21. And then we pray, and then we leave, and we have lunch, and then we go play volleyball,

  22. and that's kind of it.

  23. And it made me think, you know, I think we're still young enough as a church.

  24. Or did I just get cut off?

  25. Should I try this one?

  26. I think we're still young enough as a church to really keep asking ourselves,

  27. what are we doing?

  28. What are we doing?

  29. Why are we here?

  30. Do you agree?

  31. Can we do that?

  32. Like, we read those gathering statements because we're asking ourselves,

  33. do you know why you're here?

  34. Why did you choose to come here on a Sunday morning?

  35. What is it for?

  36. And, of course, the answer sometimes is always different.

  37. But for us, can we keep reminding ourselves that?

  38. So we're at this place where we're like, you know what?

  39. Lord, we want to focus on you.

  40. We want to be here for the right reason.

  41. And I've told you before that I have this fear that we turn up to church,

  42. and it's a memorial service.

  43. We're talking about a guy who lived a long time ago who was a good guy,

  44. and that's it.

  45. And then last week I shared with you I have another fear,

  46. which is that we're basically running a birthday party

  47. and ignoring the person whose birthday it is.

  48. So we all gather and say, hey, we're here for Jesus.

  49. We're here to hang out.

  50. We just worship him.

  51. And then, to be honest, we spend the whole time not really thinking about him,

  52. wanting to hear from him, and we leave.

  53. And that seems sad too, right?

  54. Does that seem sad to you?

  55. If you've come here and you've not been able to encounter Jesus,

  56. then that's sad.

  57. Because that's what we're here for.

  58. And so then, actually, myself and a few of our leaders were like,

  59. you know what?

  60. We want to focus on prayer.

  61. You know, Acts 2.42, before I went away, I preached about it,

  62. and I was like, are we devoted or are we dabbling?

  63. Are we devoted to what they were doing in the beginning,

  64. or are we just simply dabbling and then wondering why we're not growing,

  65. wondering why we're not known by the people,

  66. wondering why we're just not feeling that connection.

  67. But maybe we should devote ourselves.

  68. And that's when we came across, in our minds, this idea,

  69. we need to devote ourselves to prayer.

  70. We need to devote ourselves to prayer.

  71. But then another thought came into my mind is actually,

  72. if I want all of us to have, if we want to be a praying church,

  73. and now my suspicion is around the world, we're a pretty prayerless church.

  74. And that's ironic, almost, because we say we're here to meet Jesus,

  75. but yet we don't talk to Jesus at all.

  76. And for me, I'm like, if we're going to have a praying church, we need to have praying people.

  77. In order, if we're going to convince people that praying is important,

  78. not in the righteous, religious sense, but just in the sense of, hey,

  79. if we're here for God, then we should really talk to Him.

  80. We should really listen to Him.

  81. Then I realized we can't really do that if we don't change the way we do our Sunday service.

  82. Not all the time, not forever.

  83. And actually, the team that came here, and there's a whole group that came here really early

  84. just to pray and dream this up with us.

  85. We're like, hey, we're going to try this for one week.

  86. And if it's an absolute disaster, we'll just go back to doing,

  87. like, we're not afraid of trying different things.

  88. The last thing we want is to get so stuck into what we're doing

  89. that we actually forget why we're here.

  90. And we're back to the memorial service.

  91. We're back to the birthday party, but ignoring the birthday boy.

  92. It makes me think, the early church, how did it start?

  93. And can we at least experiment and try with some of those things?

  94. So if you're here for the first time, bear with us.

  95. Thank you.

  96. I love that you're here.

  97. We don't always do it like this.

  98. But I hope you get a sense of at least what we're trying to do here.

  99. And we welcome you.

  100. And I truly believe that actually God's brought you here for a reason as well.

  101. And if there's anything that He wants to say to you, I pray that you'll be open to it.

  102. I think about Acts.

  103. When Jesus flies off, ascends into heaven, and He says, I'll be back.

  104. And then the people who are watching Him fly off suddenly don't really know what to do.

  105. Can you imagine that in Acts 1?

  106. You see Jesus fly off and says, the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and you'll be my witnesses

  107. in Jerusalem, in Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

  108. I'll be back.

  109. And then they just all stood there going, well, that's a bit strange.

  110. We've never seen that before.

  111. What now?

  112. What do we do?

  113. What do they do?

  114. They did what I think what we would do after seeing something like that.

  115. Oh, what should we do now?

  116. You talk to you.

  117. Oh, I guess we'll head back home.

  118. But we can't head home.

  119. It feels weird to head home having seen what we've just seen.

  120. We've got to do something.

  121. Oh, actually, there's a group there who are just going to go into someone's house over

  122. there.

  123. They have a big house, and they're just going to go over there, and they're just going to

  124. start praying.

  125. And so that's what we see, and that's what we read here in Acts 1, the upper room.

  126. Because they didn't know what they were going to do.

  127. Jesus said He'll be back, but He didn't say whether it will be in seven days or whether

  128. it will be 2,000 years.

  129. So they don't know what to do.

  130. And when in doubt, they did the thing that they thought best, which is they went to pray.

  131. And I can actually imagine it's probably the size of a room like this, where there's a

  132. group of people who saw Him ascend, don't know what to do from this point because they

  133. can't act as though they've not seen it.

  134. So then they said, you know what?

  135. Let's not go home just yet.

  136. Let's just go and pray.

  137. I would say that's the beginning of the early church.

  138. What was the early church started by?

  139. It was started by a prayer meeting.

  140. It was started by a 10-day prayer meeting.

  141. People like you and I, about the same number of people here actually, gathered together because

  142. they couldn't unsee what they saw.

  143. They couldn't just go back to their normal lives.

  144. They're like, we just got to get together and pray.

  145. Somehow along the way in the 2,000 years, we've kind of lost our way a little bit.

  146. And now we've ended up in a place where it's a show.

  147. It's a very slick performance of a show.

  148. There's certain parts to a service that we must follow because that's what church is,

  149. when in reality, it looked a little bit like this.

  150. So we're going to try and do something here.

  151. And I'm going to try not to talk for too long, but I want us to be able to talk to God.

  152. And here it is.

  153. I want to encourage you.

  154. If you've never done this before, or if you don't even know what I'm about to ask you to do,

  155. and you're feeling a little bit nervous, don't worry.

  156. I'm super nervous because I'm leading this, and I don't really know how it's going to end.

  157. And it's okay.

  158. But I'm like, if we're not even willing to try different things, then what are we here for?

  159. I'm here to want to hear from the Lord.

  160. I'm here wanting to have a connection, and I'm willing to try all kinds of different things,

  161. throw all kinds of things at the wall to see if it sticks.

  162. And if it doesn't, hey, we're going to come back next week.

  163. The seats will be in the normal place, and we'll all continue to do what we do.

  164. And that's okay, too.

  165. Do you hear my heart?

  166. Can I get a nod or an actual...

  167. Is that okay?

  168. Are you with me in just trying this?

  169. Brilliant.

  170. That's good.

  171. So what we're going to do is we're actually going to switch the service around a little bit.

  172. So okay, next week I won't be doing this little spiel because I did want to at least kind of intro it.

  173. We're going to switch the service around.

  174. The sermon isn't going to be the climax that we had because actually the sermon itself hasn't always been the climax

  175. or the kind of centerpiece of a church, which seems to be the case these days.

  176. It was only 500 years ago when a guy called Zwingli was like,

  177. we need to go back to preaching the word of God, and he moves the pulpit right into the center of church.

  178. And it's from that moment the church service almost revolved around the service.

  179. The songs were to prepare you for the sermon.

  180. The song afterwards would prepare you to respond to the sermon, and everything was about the sermon.

  181. Actually, for 1,500 years, it wasn't about that.

  182. It was about communion.

  183. It was about being together, praying together.

  184. So we're going to experiment that, and so we're going to follow the format of what maybe an early church service would have looked like,

  185. which is it would have started off with scripture reading.

  186. And then it would have been a short message about that, and then it would just be worship and prayer.

  187. Now, don't worry.

  188. It won't be a 10-day one that we're trying to do.

  189. We will still get you to lunch on time.

  190. But my heart is this, and when we were praying as a group in the morning, I was like, you know what?

  191. May we get to a place where prayers never have to start because they never stop?

  192. Does that make sense?

  193. Can we get to a point where prayers never have to start because it just never stops?

  194. So we're always – this is what we're striving for into being here.

  195. So this is what we're going to try and do.

  196. Hey, kids have actually already started, so feel free to jump straight into the kids if you've just been able to join us.

  197. So we're going to do this.

  198. We're going to start with scripture.

  199. I've decided for these next few weeks we're going to go through a very short passage of scripture each time,

  200. and it's going to be based on a set of psalms which are called the Songs of Ascent.

  201. I don't know if you know about these Songs of Ascent.

  202. These are short psalms.

  203. They're not like the super, super long ones.

  204. They were psalms that were sang by people back in those days as they were heading to Jerusalem to worship,

  205. to attend a festival, and groups of people, maybe smaller groups and bigger groups,

  206. they would start walking up towards Jerusalem, walking up the hill of Jerusalem,

  207. and they would start singing these songs together.

  208. Think about football fans singing an anthem as they are supporting their team.

  209. It's that kind of – and, of course, the lyrics are easy to learn, easy to catch.

  210. Even kids will know them.

  211. Because when I think about prayer, what did Jesus pray?

  212. Jesus would have prayed these psalms because he would have known these psalms.

  213. And so we're going to try and root ourselves in this,

  214. and we're going to start by simply just reading this scripture.

  215. I'm going to read it to us a few times.

  216. And so I invite you, as I read it to you,

  217. we're actually going to try something that actually, again, is an old thing called Lectio Divina.

  218. Put your hand up if you've heard of Lectio Divina before.

  219. Brilliant.

  220. Lectio Divina actually just translated simply means divine reading.

  221. Lectio being reading.

  222. And it's basically the idea of just, God, we're going to hear from you.

  223. And each time we read it, we're going to go through different phases.

  224. We're going to first, we're going to read it.

  225. And then we're just going to reflect on it.

  226. And then we're going to respond to it in our hearts.

  227. And then we're just going to rest in it.

  228. And so there's these stages that actually, the other thing is,

  229. I want us to be equipped with different tools to pray.

  230. Because I find it hard to pray.

  231. Some of you find it hard to pray, especially on your own.

  232. Wouldn't it be great if, in a time like this,

  233. we can give each of the tools that actually help us when we go home?

  234. That's kind of the heart behind it.

  235. So I'm going to read this to you.

  236. We're going to read it a few times.

  237. So maybe the first time we'll do it in the usual fashion that we do,

  238. which is, can I invite you to stand for the word of the Lord?

  239. Today I'm going to be reading from Psalm 131,

  240. a song of ascent of David.

  241. So Lord, as we stand and we hear your word, we revere it.

  242. We hold it.

  243. With respect, with awe, with reverence.

  244. Because these words give life.

  245. So would you prepare our hearts now as we receive your word.

  246. Psalm 131.

  247. O Lord, my heart is not lifted up.

  248. My eyes are not raised too high.

  249. I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.

  250. But I have calmed and quieted my soul like a weaned child with its mother.

  251. Like a weaned child is my soul within me.

  252. O Israel, hope in the Lord.

  253. From this time forth and forevermore.

  254. Please take a seat.

  255. So we've read it the first time.

  256. I don't know if there's anything that jumped out to you.

  257. I'm going to read it a second time now.

  258. Actually, Charlotte's going to put it on the screen for us.

  259. As I read it a second time,

  260. again, I encourage you.

  261. So we've just read it.

  262. Now what I want us to do is to reflect on it.

  263. As I read these words to you,

  264. what jumps out?

  265. What does it make you think of?

  266. Psalm 131.

  267. Oh Lord,

  268. my heart is not lifted up.

  269. My eyes are not raised too high.

  270. I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.

  271. But I have calmed and quieted my soul.

  272. Like a weaned child with its mother.

  273. Like a weaned child is my soul within me.

  274. Oh Israel,

  275. hope in the Lord.

  276. From this time forth

  277. and forevermore.

  278. So now we've read it for the first time.

  279. We've reflected on it

  280. on the second time.

  281. The third time I read it,

  282. let's ask the question,

  283. Lord, how can we respond?

  284. Is there anything that you want us to do

  285. to respond to this?

  286. Or why

  287. did certain lines pop up?

  288. What do they mean?

  289. What's he trying to say?

  290. So now we read it for a third time.

  291. Oh Lord,

  292. my heart is not lifted up.

  293. My eyes are not raised too high.

  294. I do not occupy myself with things too great

  295. and too marvelous for me.

  296. Like a weaned child

  297. with its mother.

  298. Like a weaned child

  299. is my soul within me.

  300. Oh Israel,

  301. hope in the Lord

  302. from this time forth

  303. and forevermore.

  304. And now I'll read it one final time

  305. and this is the final bit

  306. where we just rest in it.

  307. O Lord,

  308. my heart is not lifted up.

  309. My eyes are not raised too high.

  310. I do not occupy myself

  311. with things too great

  312. and too marvelous for me.

  313. Like a weaned child

  314. with its mother.

  315. Like a weaned child

  316. is my soul within me.

  317. O Israel,

  318. hope in the Lord

  319. from this time forth

  320. and forevermore.

  321. Lord,

  322. we seek to hear from you.

  323. We seek to meet you.

  324. Commune with you.

  325. Speak with you.

  326. Be with you.

  327. So would you be with us.

  328. So now we've done that.

  329. That's some,

  330. we did that in five minutes

  331. but if you're wanting

  332. to try different things at home,

  333. that's something that you can do

  334. over let's say 30 minutes,

  335. take a short passage like that,

  336. read it,

  337. reflect on it,

  338. respond to it

  339. and then rest in it.

  340. That's Lectio Divina

  341. and this is a new thing.

  342. This has been around

  343. for hundreds and hundreds of years

  344. and it's just a great way for me

  345. that I found

  346. to help still my mind,

  347. to root my prayer

  348. in the word of God

  349. and that's been super helpful for me.

  350. And I hope that helps you.

  351. It reminds me of the quote

  352. that I shared from Pete Gregg last week

  353. which was,

  354. pray what you've got.

  355. CS Lewis says,

  356. let's lay before the throne

  357. not what ought to be in us

  358. but just lay before the throne

  359. what is in us.

  360. Just pray what you've got.

  361. Keep it simple.

  362. The Lord's Prayer

  363. that I shared about last week,

  364. the Matthew version,

  365. before Jesus prays,

  366. teaches them how to pray,

  367. he tells them,

  368. hey,

  369. there's some of you

  370. who have made prayer

  371. too complicated.

  372. You're standing

  373. on your street corners,

  374. you're using the longest words

  375. that you can find

  376. and you're praying

  377. as loud as you can

  378. because you want people

  379. to see how good you are

  380. at praying

  381. and that you know

  382. what the word sanctification

  383. and justification mean.

  384. We get it,

  385. you're smart

  386. but do you have a connection

  387. with God

  388. and Jesus says

  389. when you pray

  390. just go into your room

  391. and just quiet

  392. and just say

  393. the simplest of prayers.

  394. And that's what

  395. really resonated

  396. with me this week

  397. because actually

  398. we all come from

  399. very different levels

  400. of prayer.

  401. There's some of you here

  402. who have come here

  403. to church this morning

  404. and you've already done

  405. a two hour prayer service

  406. at home

  407. and there's

  408. the rest of us

  409. who actually

  410. we've struggled

  411. to pray this week

  412. for two minutes a day.

  413. So the first week

  414. I wanted to focus on

  415. is just this idea

  416. of simple prayer

  417. that you pray

  418. what you've got

  419. and that we're all

  420. very different.

  421. God created us

  422. all very differently

  423. so don't look to the person

  424. next to you

  425. and go oh well

  426. they probably like that

  427. that's how I should pray

  428. because we're all

  429. so different.

  430. We were created different

  431. from the moment

  432. we were born.

  433. My wife and I

  434. had a funny conversation

  435. yesterday

  436. because MJ's been

  437. in this kind of

  438. five, six month period

  439. and apparently

  440. there's a six month

  441. sleeping regression

  442. that is similar

  443. to the four month

  444. sleeping regression

  445. that is a little bit

  446. different than the

  447. eight month sleeping

  448. progression

  449. and the idea

  450. and it was funny

  451. she was laughing

  452. because when you read

  453. okay of course

  454. she's sleep deprived

  455. so mums who have

  456. done this through the

  457. nights will know this

  458. she was like

  459. you know what

  460. when you're reading

  461. these kind of

  462. oh why is my baby

  463. doing this

  464. doing that

  465. and then you read

  466. these articles online

  467. and they'll tell you

  468. Rocky's just like

  469. I know

  470. he's like

  471. why is my baby

  472. doing this

  473. and the article

  474. will say

  475. well you know

  476. some babies

  477. most babies

  478. will have this

  479. happen to them

  480. at six months

  481. and this will happen

  482. and this will happen

  483. unless

  484. it doesn't

  485. and then this will

  486. happen

  487. unless it doesn't

  488. nearly all babies

  489. do this

  490. unless they don't

  491. and then you finish

  492. reading the article

  493. you're like

  494. you know what

  495. you guys don't know

  496. either

  497. you're literally

  498. just making it up

  499. and every baby

  500. is different

  501. so by that definition

  502. every prayer

  503. is different as well

  504. because we're all

  505. created to speak to him

  506. in different ways

  507. but one thing

  508. that I have learned

  509. is that we have to

  510. pray what we've got

  511. you look at this

  512. prayer here

  513. that they would have

  514. sang

  515. it's a simple prayer

  516. and it starts with this

  517. oh lord my heart

  518. is not lifted up

  519. my eyes are not

  520. raised too high

  521. what is that

  522. that's the same thing

  523. from last week's prayer

  524. the lord's prayer

  525. it is humility

  526. that is just

  527. kind of going

  528. God

  529. I'm not going

  530. to keep my

  531. I'm not going

  532. to keep my eyes

  533. focused on these

  534. high things here

  535. how I'm going

  536. to change the world

  537. up here

  538. I'm not going

  539. to think about

  540. trying to become

  541. the CEO of this

  542. and trying to be

  543. the best of this

  544. this prayer

  545. is just one

  546. that just

  547. completely strips

  548. you down

  549. to the humblest

  550. level going

  551. God my heart

  552. is not lifted

  553. too high

  554. my eyes are not

  555. raised too high

  556. man

  557. I do not

  558. occupy myself

  559. with things

  560. too great

  561. and too

  562. marvelous

  563. for me

  564. don't we do

  565. that sometimes

  566. that we occupy

  567. ourselves

  568. of things

  569. too great

  570. and too

  571. marvelous

  572. we're trying

  573. to solve

  574. the world's

  575. problems

  576. our young life

  577. staff and I

  578. this week

  579. during our

  580. meeting

  581. I felt compelled

  582. to buy a couple

  583. of newspapers

  584. and take them

  585. to the office

  586. and before we

  587. started we just

  588. all grabbed a

  589. newspaper

  590. and read a

  591. newspaper

  592. and actually

  593. a lot of my

  594. staff which are

  595. who are millennials

  596. and gen z's

  597. they're like

  598. I've never

  599. touched a

  600. newspaper before

  601. what are you

  602. doing

  603. there's so many

  604. parts to it

  605. and I was like

  606. hey let's

  607. let's just read

  608. what's happening

  609. in this city

  610. and let's not

  611. be consumed

  612. with thinking

  613. that we can

  614. solve it

  615. but let's just

  616. pray

  617. for the different

  618. parts of this

  619. city

  620. for the rental

  621. market

  622. for the gambling

  623. for

  624. the mental

  625. health

  626. for the suicide

  627. rates

  628. for the guys

  629. in Mira

  630. let's pray

  631. for them

  632. because everyone

  633. cares about them

  634. let's pray

  635. for Anson

  636. Lowe

  637. and Gungthal

  638. those are the

  639. only two I

  640. know

  641. and the other

  642. guys who all

  643. look very similar

  644. to them

  645. but let's pray

  646. and so we did

  647. that and actually

  648. that's us going

  649. God

  650. we don't occupy

  651. ourselves with

  652. things too great

  653. for us

  654. we don't

  655. understand what's

  656. happening

  657. but we will

  658. pray

  659. and so there's

  660. that sense of

  661. humility

  662. that sense of

  663. just being

  664. simple

  665. and then it

  666. goes into the

  667. second part

  668. which is an

  669. interesting one

  670. which actually

  671. took me a

  672. while to

  673. really understand

  674. it said this

  675. but I have

  676. calmed and

  677. quieted my

  678. soul

  679. like a

  680. weaned child

  681. with his

  682. mother

  683. like a

  684. weaned child

  685. is my

  686. soul within

  687. me

  688. what does

  689. that mean

  690. what does

  691. that mean

  692. for those

  693. who have

  694. nursed a

  695. baby

  696. I've calmed

  697. and quieted

  698. my soul

  699. and I think

  700. there's a

  701. contentment

  702. there

  703. there's a

  704. I just

  705. sit

  706. and I'm

  707. just content

  708. which is so

  709. different to

  710. the city

  711. of Hong Kong

  712. people just

  713. being restless

  714. wanting the

  715. next thing

  716. right

  717. but like a

  718. baby

  719. like a

  720. weaned

  721. child

  722. so this

  723. isn't a

  724. baby

  725. like

  726. MJ our

  727. baby

  728. just goes

  729. nuts

  730. when he's

  731. hungry

  732. for milk

  733. and he

  734. can't

  735. shut him

  736. up

  737. it's just

  738. but a

  739. weaned

  740. child is

  741. someone who

  742. doesn't need

  743. milk anymore

  744. who just

  745. sits and

  746. you know what's

  747. interesting when a

  748. baby cries for

  749. mum

  750. like a

  751. nursing child

  752. they're crying

  753. for milk

  754. they're just

  755. going for

  756. that's what

  757. they want

  758. something

  759. that's why

  760. they're crying

  761. but a

  762. weaned

  763. child

  764. when they're

  765. crying for

  766. their parent

  767. what are they

  768. doing

  769. they just

  770. want company

  771. they just

  772. want a

  773. hug

  774. they just

  775. want to

  776. rest on

  777. your lap

  778. and not

  779. worry about

  780. a thing

  781. they don't

  782. need anything

  783. from you

  784. they just

  785. want to

  786. sit with

  787. you

  788. I've

  789. calmed

  790. and quieted

  791. my soul

  792. like a

  793. weaned

  794. child

  795. I'm just

  796. going to

  797. sit

  798. which brings

  799. me to my

  800. question for

  801. us today

  802. as we pray

  803. what we've

  804. got

  805. are our

  806. prayers

  807. childish

  808. prayers

  809. or childlike

  810. prayers

  811. your prayer

  812. if I snuck

  813. into your

  814. prayer life

  815. is it a

  816. childish

  817. prayer

  818. or is it

  819. a childlike

  820. prayer

  821. what's the

  822. difference

  823. I'm going to

  824. ask the

  825. question just

  826. to keep us

  827. awake a little

  828. bit because

  829. it's getting

  830. quite warm

  831. in here

  832. what's the

  833. trait of a

  834. childish

  835. prayer

  836. what's the

  837. trait of a

  838. childish

  839. prayer

  840. you don't

  841. really know

  842. what you're

  843. talking about

  844. you don't

  845. even know

  846. what you

  847. want

  848. so you're

  849. just like

  850. God I

  851. need this

  852. but you

  853. don't really

  854. know

  855. that's

  856. definitely

  857. a part

  858. of it

  859. what else

  860. is there

  861. Mel

  862. what's a

  863. childish

  864. prayer for

  865. you

  866. a needy

  867. one

  868. like just

  869. God all

  870. I need

  871. is this

  872. this is

  873. what I

  874. need

  875. like I

  876. know that

  877. you've

  878. given me

  879. eternity

  880. with you

  881. and complete

  882. satisfaction

  883. but I

  884. just need

  885. a girlfriend

  886. I know

  887. that I'm

  888. going to

  889. spend

  890. eternity

  891. just being

  892. completely

  893. fulfilled

  894. but could

  895. you just

  896. give me

  897. that job

  898. the one

  899. that I

  900. won't be

  901. able to

  902. take

  903. into

  904. heaven

  905. but I

  906. just want

  907. it now

  908. I'm

  909. just needy

  910. that's

  911. all I

  912. want

  913. what's

  914. a child

  915. like

  916. prayer

  917. Kelly

  918. what's

  919. a child

  920. like

  921. prayer

  922. a prayer

  923. where you're

  924. really seeking

  925. just to be

  926. with the

  927. father

  928. where you

  929. want to

  930. be with

  931. him

  932. where you

  933. want to

  934. sit on

  935. his lap

  936. it's the

  937. prayer

  938. that let's

  939. say

  940. my

  941. daughter

  942. gives

  943. to me

  944. when I

  945. say

  946. hey

  947. do you

  948. want to

  949. go here

  950. can you

  951. come

  952. with me

  953. that's

  954. it

  955. that's

  956. the

  957. child

  958. like

  959. prayer

  960. it's

  961. where

  962. she's

  963. not

  964. asking

  965. for

  966. anything

  967. that

  968. don't

  969. don't

  970. get me

  971. wrong

  972. she

  973. asks

  974. for

  975. tons

  976. of

  977. things

  978. but a

  979. child

  980. like

  981. prayer

  982. is

  983. like

  984. God

  985. I

  986. don't

  987. actually

  988. I

  989. don't

  990. really

  991. know

  992. what

  993. I

  994. want

  995. I

  996. don't

  997. really

  998. know

  999. but I

  1000. just

  1001. want

  1002. to be

  1003. with

  1004. you

  1005. and then

  1006. there

  1007. comes

  1008. a point

  1009. where you

  1010. can

  1011. ask

  1012. for

  1013. things

  1014. as

  1015. well

  1016. that's

  1017. what

  1018. the

  1019. Lord's

  1020. prayer

  1021. showed

  1022. us

  1023. right

  1024. when you

  1025. seek

  1026. communion

  1027. with

  1028. him

  1029. there

  1030. are

  1031. moments

  1032. where

  1033. God

  1034. can

  1035. I

  1036. just

  1037. have

  1038. some

  1039. bread

  1040. today

  1041. I

  1042. need

  1043. something

  1044. today

  1045. I

  1046. need

  1047. this

  1048. today

  1049. but let's

  1050. not have

  1051. our prayers

  1052. be childish

  1053. prayers

  1054. let's

  1055. have them

  1056. be

  1057. childlike

  1058. prayers

  1059. where we

  1060. are not

  1061. afraid

  1062. to go

  1063. to

  1064. God

  1065. I

  1066. really

  1067. need

  1068. this

  1069. God

  1070. I'm

  1071. really

  1072. angry

  1073. right

  1074. now

  1075. because

  1076. that

  1077. person

  1078. is

  1079. really

  1080. frustrating

  1081. me

  1082. God

  1083. I'm

  1084. actually

  1085. really

  1086. struggling

  1087. right now

  1088. because

  1089. mentally

  1090. emotionally

  1091. I'm

  1092. just

  1093. not

  1094. there

  1095. I

  1096. don't

  1097. even

  1098. know

  1099. what

  1100. I'm

  1101. trying

  1102. to

  1103. ask

  1104. for

  1105. I

  1106. don't

  1107. even

  1108. know

  1109. what

  1110. I

  1111. need

  1112. and

  1113. I

  1114. guess

  1115. I

  1116. can

  1117. come

  1118. to

  1119. you

  1120. with

  1121. that

  1122. yes

  1123. you

  1124. can

  1125. praying

  1126. for

  1127. childlike

  1128. prayers

  1129. and

  1130. not

  1131. childish

  1132. prayers

  1133. we

  1134. call

  1135. them

  1136. simple

  1137. prayers

  1138. is

  1139. what

  1140. Richard

  1141. Foster

  1142. calls

  1143. them

  1144. and

  1145. I

  1146. love

  1147. it

  1148. so

  1149. actually

  1150. my

  1151. favorite

  1152. book

  1153. on

  1154. prayer

  1155. if

  1156. you're

  1157. wondering

  1158. I'm

  1159. eager

  1160. to read

  1161. about

  1162. prayer

  1163. Richard

  1164. Foster

  1165. book

  1166. on

  1167. prayer

  1168. is

  1169. my

  1170. personal

  1171. favorite

  1172. and

  1173. he

  1174. talks

  1175. about

  1176. different

  1177. kinds

  1178. of

  1179. prayers

  1180. and

  1181. the

  1182. first

  1183. one

  1184. is

  1185. simple

  1186. prayer

  1187. where

  1188. you

  1189. simply

  1190. just

  1191. go

  1192. he

  1193. says

  1194. it's

  1195. the

  1196. most

  1197. common

  1198. prayer

  1199. in

  1200. the

  1201. Bible

  1202. where

  1203. it's

  1204. basically

  1205. the

  1206. prayer

  1207. of

  1208. whatever

  1209. you

  1210. have

  1211. on

  1212. your

  1213. heart

  1214. you

  1215. say

  1216. to

  1217. God

  1218. you

  1219. look

  1220. in

  1221. the

  1222. Bible

  1223. that's

  1224. how

  1225. people

  1226. pray

  1227. just

  1228. here

  1229. it

  1230. is

  1231. sometimes

  1232. as

  1233. overzealous

  1234. Christians

  1235. keep wanting

  1236. to try

  1237. move

  1238. beyond

  1239. that

  1240. simple

  1241. prayer

  1242. so

  1243. we're

  1244. not

  1245. just

  1246. asking

  1247. for

  1248. things

  1249. but

  1250. Richard

  1251. Foster

  1252. says

  1253. the

  1254. only

  1255. way

  1256. you

  1257. move

  1258. beyond

  1259. simple

  1260. prayer

  1261. is

  1262. if

  1263. you

  1264. move

  1265. through

  1266. it

  1267. where

  1268. you

  1269. do

  1270. acknowledge

  1271. God

  1272. actually

  1273. I know

  1274. what

  1275. Pastor

  1276. James

  1277. said

  1278. but

  1279. I

  1280. am

  1281. yearning

  1282. for

  1283. a

  1284. spouse

  1285. I

  1286. am

  1287. yearning

  1288. for

  1289. a

  1290. girlfriend

  1291. or

  1292. a

  1293. boyfriend

  1294. I

  1295. am

  1296. worried

  1297. about

  1298. my

  1299. job

  1300. situation

  1301. I

  1302. don't

  1303. want

  1304. to

  1305. but

  1306. I

  1307. am

  1308. so

  1309. I

  1310. am

  1311. going

  1312. to

  1313. pray

  1314. what

  1315. I

  1316. have

  1317. got

  1318. and

  1319. I

  1320. am

  1321. going

  1322. to

  1323. start

  1324. there

  1325. so

  1326. there

  1327. is

  1328. something

  1329. to

  1330. that

  1331. that

  1332. that

  1333. is

  1334. why

  1335. today

  1336. I

  1337. wanted

  1338. to

  1339. focus

  1340. on

  1341. that

  1342. simple

  1343. prayer

  1344. what

  1345. simple

  1346. prayer

  1347. do

  1348. you

  1349. have

  1350. in

  1351. your

  1352. heart

  1353. before

  1354. we

  1355. try

  1356. and

  1357. consider

  1358. all

  1359. the

  1360. other

  1361. kinds

  1362. of

  1363. ways

  1364. we

  1365. talk

  1366. to

  1367. God

  1368. let's

  1369. start

  1370. with

  1371. where

  1372. we

  1373. man

  1374. God

  1375. I'm

  1376. just

  1377. worried

  1378. that

  1379. I'm

  1380. not

  1381. in

  1382. the

  1383. right

  1384. place

  1385. that

  1386. I'm

  1387. not

  1388. in

  1389. the

  1390. right

  1391. relationship

  1392. I'm

  1393. just

  1394. worried

  1395. for

  1396. my

  1397. adult

  1398. child

  1399. who

  1400. no

  1401. longer

  1402. goes

  1403. to

  1404. church

  1405. that's

  1406. the

  1407. thing

  1408. that's

  1409. on

  1410. my

  1411. mind

  1412. a lot

  1413. what's

  1414. your

  1415. simple

  1416. prayer

  1417. what's

  1418. the

  1419. prayer

  1420. that

  1421. you

  1422. have

  1423. and

  1424. as

  1425. we

  1426. seek

  1427. to

  1428. be

  1429. calmed

  1430. and

  1431. quieted

  1432. in

  1433. our

  1434. souls

  1435. as

  1436. we

  1437. seek

  1438. to

  1439. have

  1440. child

  1441. like

  1442. prayers

  1443. !

  1444. this

  1445. psalm

  1446. 131

  1447. is one

  1448. of the

  1449. shortest

  1450. psalms

  1451. but

  1452. Charles

  1453. Spurgeon

  1454. said

  1455. this

  1456. it's

  1457. one

  1458. of the

  1459. shortest

  1460. psalms

  1461. to

  1462. read

  1463. but

  1464. it's

  1465. one

  1466. of the

  1467. longest

  1468. psalms

  1469. to

  1470. learn

  1471. to

  1472. learn

  1473. to

  1474. be

  1475. children

  1476. of

  1477. God

  1478. who

  1479. are

  1480. content

  1481. who

  1482. are

  1483. calmed

  1484. and

  1485. quieted

  1486. within

  1487. the

  1488. soul

  1489. like

  1490. weaned

  1491. children

  1492. are

  1493. who

  1494. just

  1495. want

  1496. to

  1497. spend

  1498. time

  1499. with

  1500. their

  1501. parents

  1502. and

  1503. not

  1504. need

  1505. milk

  1506. just

  1507. to

  1508. hold

  1509. their

  1510. hands

  1511. that's

  1512. what

  1513. we're

  1514. praying

  1515. for

  1516. but

  1517. to

  1518. get

  1519. there

  1520. we

  1521. have

  1522. to

  1523. move

  1524. through

  1525. the

  1526. simple

  1527. prayer

  1528. and

  1529. start

  1530. with

  1531. hey

  1532. what

  1533. have

  1534. I

  1535. got

  1536. in

  1537. my

  1538. heart

  1539. that

  1540. actually

  1541. I

  1542. do

  1543. want

  1544. to

  1545. ask

  1546. God

  1547. about

  1548. God

  1549. why is

  1550. there

  1551. so

  1552. much

  1553. evil

  1554. in

  1555. the

  1556. world

  1557. I

  1558. look

  1559. at

  1560. the

  1561. leaders

  1562. around

  1563. the

  1564. world

  1565. and

  1566. politics

  1567. and

  1568. I'm

  1569. just

  1570. confused

  1571. just

  1572. like

  1573. they

  1574. are

  1575. and

  1576. we

  1577. can

  1578. take

  1579. those

  1580. prayers

  1581. !

  1582. there's

  1583. a

  1584. type

  1585. of

  1586. prayer

  1587. that

  1588. we've

  1589. been

  1590. trying

  1591. with

  1592. some

  1593. of

  1594. our

  1595. teams

  1596. here

  1597. and

  1598. it's

  1599. called

  1600. ABC

  1601. prayer

  1602. it's

  1603. not

  1604. a

  1605. new

  1606. thing

  1607. everyone

  1608. calls it

  1609. different

  1610. things

  1611. it's

  1612. popcorn

  1613. prayer

  1614. it's

  1615. basically

  1616. when a

  1617. group

  1618. of

  1619. people

  1620. get

  1621. together

  1622. and

  1623. want

  1624. to

  1625. pray

  1626. but

  1627. we

  1628. don't

  1629. want

  1630. that

  1631. long

  1632. winded

  1633. person

  1634. to

  1635. take

  1636. over

  1637. the

  1638. prayer

  1639. and

  1640. completely

  1641. dominate

  1642. and

  1643. the rest

  1644. of us

  1645. switch

  1646. off

  1647. we've

  1648. been

  1649. in

  1650. those

  1651. prayers

  1652. where

  1653. there's

  1654. that

  1655. person

  1656. who

  1657. just

  1658. uses

  1659. long

  1660. words

  1661. and

  1662. prays

  1663. a

  1664. long

  1665. time

  1666. so

  1667. we

  1668. call

  1669. it

  1670. ABC

  1671. prayer

  1672. because

  1673. we

  1674. start

  1675. off

  1676. wanting

  1677. to

  1678. keep

  1679. it

  1680. simple

  1681. A

  1682. stands

  1683. for

  1684. authentic

  1685. I'm

  1686. going to

  1687. test

  1688. you

  1689. on

  1690. this

  1691. so

  1692. remember

  1693. A

  1694. stands

  1695. for

  1696. authentic

  1697. let's

  1698. just

  1699. be

  1700. real

  1701. if

  1702. you're

  1703. not

  1704. feeling

  1705. it

  1706. then

  1707. just

  1708. say

  1709. God

  1710. I'm

  1711. not

  1712. feeling

  1713. it

  1714. but

  1715. I'm

  1716. here

  1717. because

  1718. I'll

  1719. tell

  1720. you

  1721. even

  1722. whatever

  1723. your

  1724. certain

  1725. place

  1726. is

  1727. just

  1728. show

  1729. up

  1730. and

  1731. that's

  1732. the

  1733. main

  1734. thing

  1735. so

  1736. first

  1737. thing

  1738. just

  1739. be

  1740. authentic

  1741. A

  1742. number

  1743. two

  1744. is

  1745. be

  1746. brief

  1747. so

  1748. when

  1749. we

  1750. do

  1751. this

  1752. kind

  1753. of

  1754. prayer

  1755. that

  1756. we're

  1757. going to

  1758. try and

  1759. practice

  1760. as a

  1761. community

  1762. just

  1763. one

  1764. line

  1765. just

  1766. one

  1767. line

  1768. I've

  1769. had

  1770. people

  1771. who

  1772. have

  1773. struggled

  1774. with

  1775. this

  1776. sometimes

  1777. because

  1778. they

  1779. use

  1780. more

  1781. words

  1782. so

  1783. I've

  1784. had

  1785. a

  1786. little

  1787. polite

  1788. bell

  1789. on

  1790. the

  1791. side

  1792. where

  1793. just

  1794. as

  1795. they

  1796. head

  1797. into

  1798. the

  1799. fifth

  1800. sentence

  1801. I'll

  1802. do

  1803. a

  1804. thing

  1805. it's

  1806. okay

  1807. you

  1808. could

  1809. pray

  1810. again

  1811. in a

  1812. minute

  1813. but

  1814. just

  1815. let's

  1816. keep

  1817. it

  1818. going

  1819. together

  1820. because

  1821. we're

  1822. trying

  1823. to

  1824. practice

  1825. this

  1826. together

  1827. okay

  1828. what's

  1829. A

  1830. stand

  1831. for

  1832. authentic

  1833. be

  1834. real

  1835. brief

  1836. one

  1837. sentence

  1838. of course

  1839. you get

  1840. to

  1841. put

  1842. another

  1843. sentence

  1844. later

  1845. okay

  1846. so

  1847. let's

  1848. just

  1849. keep

  1850. the

  1851. just

  1852. like

  1853. at

  1854. a

  1855. dinner

  1856. table

  1857. or

  1858. a

  1859. coffee

  1860. shop

  1861. we

  1862. just

  1863. all

  1864. are

  1865. those

  1866. kinds

  1867. of

  1868. prayers

  1869. too

  1870. but

  1871. right

  1872. now

  1873. let's

  1874. start

  1875. with

  1876. a

  1877. simple

  1878. prayer

  1879. God

  1880. I'm

  1881. so

  1882. tired

  1883. I'm

  1884. so

  1885. worried

  1886. about

  1887. the

  1888. thing

  1889. that

  1890. I'm

  1891. trying

  1892. to

  1893. do

  1894. let's

  1895. just

  1896. be

  1897. conversational

  1898. with

  1899. how

  1900. we

  1901. do

  1902. it

  1903. A

  1904. authentic

  1905. B

  1906. C

  1907. conversational

  1908. so

  1909. that's

  1910. what

  1911. we're

  1912. going

  1913. to

  1914. do

  1915. and

  1916. yes

  1917. just

  1918. to

  1919. prepare

  1920. you

  1921. give

  1922. you

  1923. maybe

  1924. 10

  1925. minutes

  1926. of

  1927. mental

  1928. emotional

  1929. preparation

  1930. we're

  1931. all

  1932. going

  1933. to

  1934. try

  1935. this

  1936. with

  1937. the

  1938. people

  1939. next

  1940. to

  1941. us

  1942. so

  1943. you

  1944. either

  1945. got

  1946. really

  1947. lucky

  1948. today

  1949. or

  1950. you

  1951. are

  1952. lucky

  1953. but

  1954. we're

  1955. going

  1956. to

  1957. try

  1958. it

  1959. no

  1960. matter

  1961. what

  1962. okay

  1963. we're

  1964. going

  1965. to

  1966. try

  1967. and

  1968. do

  1969. that

  1970. but

  1971. before

  1972. that

  1973. I

  1974. want

  1975. to

  1976. invite

  1977. some

  1978. of my

  1979. friends

  1980. up

  1981. to

  1982. come

  1983. and

  1984. share

  1985. with

  1986. you

  1987. a

  1988. little

  1989. bit

  1990. first

  1991. !

  1992. so

  1993. !

  1994. there's

  1995. three

  1996. friends

  1997. I wanted

  1998. Wes

  1999. where are

  2000. you

  2001. Wes

  2002. Wes

  2003. is

  2004. over

  2005. there

  2006. Wes

  2007. give them

  2008. up

  2009. we're

  2010. all

  2011. going

  2012. to

  2013. stand

  2014. and

  2015. some

  2016. of

  2017. you

  2018. are

  2019. going

  2020. to

  2021. see

  2022. some

  2023. of

  2024. us

  2025. maybe

  2026. we'll

  2027. stand

  2028. so

  2029. that

  2030. at

  2031. least

  2032. people

  2033. can

  2034. see

  2035. people

  2036. just

  2037. FYI

  2038. I asked

  2039. these

  2040. people

  2041. to do

  2042. it

  2043. a few

  2044. days

  2045. ago

  2046. and

  2047. I

  2048. haven't

  2049. given

  2050. them

  2051. much

  2052. prep

  2053. after

  2054. that

  2055. so

  2056. they're

  2057. a

  2058. little

  2059. bit

  2060. anxious

  2061. just

  2062. as

  2063. I

  2064. am

  2065. !

  2066. Wes

  2067. is

  2068. a dear

  2069. friend

  2070. I've

  2071. known

  2072. Wes

  2073. since

  2074. him and

  2075. Nathan

  2076. have been

  2077. family

  2078. friends

  2079. all the

  2080. way

  2081. from

  2082. Leicester

  2083. we knew

  2084. your

  2085. family

  2086. before

  2087. you

  2088. were

  2089. even

  2090. born

  2091. Wes

  2092. is

  2093. also

  2094. my

  2095. physio

  2096. just

  2097. to

  2098. shout

  2099. out

  2100. there

  2101. now

  2102. if

  2103. anyone

  2104. needs

  2105. a

  2106. physio

  2107. he's

  2108. right

  2109. here

  2110. and

  2111. he's

  2112. also

  2113. single

  2114. so

  2115. just

  2116. in

  2117. case

  2118. just

  2119. in

  2120. case

  2121. he's

  2122. a

  2123. good

  2124. guy

  2125. sorry

  2126. I

  2127. told

  2128. you

  2129. I

  2130. wouldn't

  2131. embarrass

  2132. you

  2133. but

  2134. he's

  2135. definitely

  2136. handsome

  2137. right

  2138. right

  2139. definitely

  2140. handsome

  2141. you

  2142. see

  2143. not

  2144. quite

  2145. the

  2146. person

  2147. you

  2148. want

  2149. shouting

  2150. it

  2151. but

  2152. it's

  2153. still

  2154. good

  2155. he

  2156. has

  2157. a

  2158. market

  2159. he

  2160. has

  2161. a

  2162. market

  2163. oh

  2164. my

  2165. goodness

  2166. okay

  2167. change

  2168. stop

  2169. okay

  2170. next

  2171. Rachel

  2172. Rachel

  2173. is

  2174. one

  2175. of

  2176. again

  2177. her

  2178. and

  2179. Sam

  2180. are

  2181. one

  2182. of

  2183. the

  2184. first

  2185. people

  2186. that

  2187. we

  2188. met

  2189. when

  2190. we

  2191. first

  2192. moved

  2193. to

  2194. Hong

  2195. Kong

  2196. one

  2197. of

  2198. the

  2199. best

  2200. things

  2201. about

  2202. Rachel

  2203. is

  2204. she

  2205. is

  2206. just

  2207. so

  2208. real

  2209. and

  2210. she

  2211. won't

  2212. be

  2213. afraid

  2214. to

  2215. let

  2216. you

  2217. know

  2218. like

  2219. she

  2220. is

  2221. just

  2222. very

  2223. !

  2224. and

  2225. how

  2226. !

  2227. the

  2228. reason

  2229. why

  2230. I

  2231. brought

  2232. Wes

  2233. up

  2234. here

  2235. not

  2236. just

  2237. to

  2238. make

  2239. fun

  2240. of

  2241. him

  2242. I

  2243. watched

  2244. this

  2245. young

  2246. man

  2247. grow

  2248. in

  2249. how

  2250. he

  2251. speaks

  2252. to

  2253. God

  2254. I

  2255. hope

  2256. it

  2257. can be

  2258. an

  2259. inspiration

  2260. to

  2261. someone

  2262. here

  2263. Rachel

  2264. again

  2265. I

  2266. know

  2267. she

  2268. speaks

  2269. to

  2270. God

  2271. I

  2272. know

  2273. she

  2274. rebukes

  2275. God

  2276. and

  2277. complains

  2278. to

  2279. God

  2280. about

  2281. all

  2282. kinds

  2283. of

  2284. things

  2285. and

  2286. her

  2287. relationship

  2288. with

  2289. him

  2290. is

  2291. real

  2292. !

  2293. that's

  2294. why

  2295. she's

  2296. here

  2297. and

  2298. of

  2299. course

  2300. Trevor

  2301. Dr.

  2302. Trevor

  2303. Chan

  2304. here

  2305. again

  2306. real

  2307. just

  2308. has

  2309. this

  2310. fire

  2311. for

  2312. God

  2313. that

  2314. passed

  2315. from

  2316. his

  2317. family

  2318. nurtured

  2319. and

  2320. discipled

  2321. through

  2322. his

  2323. family

  2324. and

  2325. always

  2326. eager

  2327. to

  2328. hear

  2329. from

  2330. him

  2331. he'll

  2332. be like

  2333. let me

  2334. pray

  2335. about

  2336. it

  2337. let me

  2338. ask

  2339. God

  2340. let me

  2341. see

  2342. whether

  2343. he

  2344. wants

  2345. me

  2346. to

  2347. do

  2348. this

  2349. and

  2350. so

  2351. I

  2352. admire

  2353. these

  2354. people

  2355. maybe

  2356. just

  2357. to

  2358. start

  2359. off

  2360. so

  2361. everyone

  2362. else

  2363. gets to

  2364. know

  2365. you

  2366. a

  2367. little

  2368. Wes

  2369. what's

  2370. your

  2371. journey

  2372. with

  2373. prayer

  2374. been

  2375. like

  2376. how

  2377. would

  2378. you

  2379. describe

  2380. it

  2381. praying

  2382. is

  2383. honestly

  2384. praying

  2385. is kind

  2386. of boring

  2387. sometimes

  2388. I think

  2389. growing up

  2390. we used to

  2391. have to pray

  2392. as a family

  2393. sometimes

  2394. and

  2395. I used

  2396. to try

  2397. and pray

  2398. first

  2399. or like

  2400. maybe

  2401. after Nathan

  2402. so I could

  2403. sleep

  2404. when my

  2405. mom

  2406. prays

  2407. because

  2408. she

  2409. prays

  2410. for so

  2411. long

  2412. don't

  2413. tell my

  2414. mom

  2415. if you

  2416. know

  2417. her

  2418. yeah

  2419. but

  2420. it's

  2421. now

  2422. shorter

  2423. so

  2424. it's

  2425. but

  2426. yeah

  2427. praying

  2428. just

  2429. used

  2430. to

  2431. be

  2432. really

  2433. boring

  2434. but

  2435. now

  2436. it's

  2437. just

  2438. kind

  2439. of

  2440. growing

  2441. into

  2442. more

  2443. like

  2444. a

  2445. conversation

  2446. with

  2447. God

  2448. yeah

  2449. what do

  2450. you think

  2451. changed

  2452. what was

  2453. the switch

  2454. for you

  2455. I think

  2456. definitely

  2457. attitude

  2458. like

  2459. and how

  2460. you perceive

  2461. God

  2462. because

  2463. God

  2464. when you're

  2465. younger

  2466. I think

  2467. God's

  2468. kind

  2469. of like

  2470. Santa

  2471. right

  2472. like

  2473. kind

  2474. of

  2475. equivalent

  2476. because

  2477. you

  2478. just

  2479. don't

  2480. know

  2481. if

  2482. he's

  2483. actually

  2484. there

  2485. or

  2486. and

  2487. I think

  2488. as you

  2489. grow

  2490. or as

  2491. I grew

  2492. up

  2493. it's

  2494. you kind

  2495. of

  2496. realize

  2497. actually

  2498. this is

  2499. real

  2500. this is

  2501. so

  2502. real

  2503. and

  2504. like

  2505. he wants

  2506. to talk

  2507. to you

  2508. and like

  2509. you want

  2510. to just

  2511. be in

  2512. constant

  2513. conversation

  2514. together

2515. usual kind of lingo prayer. And then the guy just hit me with some real prayer. And I'm like, whoa,

2516. what just happened? This guy knows God. This guy is speaking to him in a way he actually knows him.

2517. That's different. And so that's why you're here. Rachel, like describe to us your relationship

2518. with God and how you speak to him. So for me, I think prayer for me is very conversational.

2519. So I think prayer for me is a lot of times is on the go where I would just be kind of having a

2520. conversation about what I'm thinking about. And so prayer, a lot of times I pray in the shower or on

2521. my way to work. And a lot of times it's very like I'm thinking about something, something's on my

2522. heart and then I would pray about it. And so, yeah. So for me, I think it's more conversational.

2523. Conversational with God. Conversational, of course, when we're talking about conversation,

2524. there's two ways in the conversation. There's talking and there's listening, right? And actually

2525. a lot of us have this question, which is like, well, how do you hear from God? And actually

2526. I've heard you speak, share multiple times, oh man, God told me this and it was a, it was a hard word

2527. to hear, but it was so true. Like, how do you hear from God when you talk to him?

2528. Um, this is, I, so for me, I hear from God through a voice and I, I, and I understand that not everybody

2529. experiences that. Um, but for me, I think, uh, that was just the way that I was able to communicate

2530. with God. Like, and, and the way that I was taught that I could communicate with God. Um, my mom had

2531. always taught me that like, yeah, like you pray to him, but you also leave room to listen to him.

2532. And so I guess that's how I've always, yeah. Experience that. Yeah. No, that's cool. Thank

2533. you. Thank you. Trevor, like, again, I've, I've heard you talk about prayer a lot. I know that you

2534. pray a lot, but what's one of the like biggest challenges for you when you pray? Like, like

2535. what's, what do you find the hardest? The hardest thing is probably believing that it's powerful.

2536. Sometimes you pray and it seems like things don't change. Yeah. You don't change. The

2537. situation doesn't change, but to have the perseverance and to realize God is listening.

2538. And sometimes his answer, whether it's a yes, no, maybe, or something more complex,

2539. isn't always in line with what you want. It's just what he wants to tell you. And

2540. just to have the patience to still go to God and realize he still cares and he still listens.

2541. And for things that you do want to change, to continue to pray and to see that maybe God is

2542. trying to change your desire instead, instead of trying to change the situation, or maybe he is

2543. trying to change the situation. It just takes more time. Yeah. That's good. Actually, we're going to,

2544. we're going to jump into some prayer, but maybe one thing that, uh, I've just been reminded of is the

2545. three of you stand here with me, whether your parents were boring in prayer or not, you three

2546. come from families. Actually, I would dare say the three of you have stood here, the four of us have

2547. stood here because we've had praying parents. Yeah. And just if you're a parent in the room and again,

2548. every child is on a different journey, uh, but to never stop praying because I think there's children,

2549. uh, the next generation that need our prayers. Uh, and this is a testament to that and the different

2550. journeys we've taken to get there, but man, they're powerful and man, they work. Um, so just let's,

2551. let's bear that in mind as we, as a family figure out what praying even means. Um, we're going to

2552. try it out. This is the bit where I'm probably the most anxious about because what I wanted us to do

2553. is all of us to do this kind of ABC prayer in small groups, but I wanted us to do it here first to show

2554. you. But I was asking Christine, I was like, is this going to be cringe and weird that we're like

2555. pretending? Well, not pretending because we're real. We are praying to God, but you guys are all

2556. listening in anyway, but I'm just going to do it anyway, because I know some of you like it. ABC

2557. prayer sounds logical, but I don't know what it looks like. I don't know how it sounds. And just

2558. like how we talk, teach babies to talk, you have to hear it first. So bear with us, please be gracious

2559. to us. We're going to pray in an ABC prayer and lead us all together to pray together in this way.

2560. And we want, I invite you to come to us, to God together with us, bearing in mind that later we'll,

2561. we'll, we'll split into smaller groups to do this ourselves. Is that okay?

2562. Does that make sense? Um, so we're going to start a, just be real, authentic B. Let's just be

2563. brief in one sentence and we'll just fly it around and then C. Let's be as confrontational as,

2564. as we can be. Is that good? I'll start us and I'll, um, maybe Trevor, you can wrap us up at the end.

2565. So everyone, would you join us in, join us in prayer?

2566. God, we're so glad that you're here. We come to you together.

2567. God, thank you for your goodness and your faithfulness in all of our lives. Um, and I just,

2568. uh, pray that we would, um, seek you more, um, and that we would, um, that would be reflected in our

  2569. prayer life.

2570. Especially when we're not even feeling it. Lord, we want to seek you. We want to hunger for you.

2571. We're grateful for the small little things in life that we get to enjoy.

2572. Father, thank you for the sun. Thank you for shade and air con. Thank you that we just get to be here

  2573. today.

2574. God, I thank you for who you are. Thank you that, um, that you were good all the time.

2575. And God, um, when times in times we can't see it, God, I just pray that you would, uh, reveal more

  2576. of yourself to us.

2577. So we pray what we've got. Um, I'm anxious. I'm nervous.

2578. Yes. Hong Kong life is stressful. Would you give us peace that surpasses understanding?

2579. We pray for those who are mentally drained. Um, who just, who just feel tired and fatigued.

2580. We ask for, uh, rest and, uh, wholeness.

2581. Lord, also please teach us to number of days, um, that we might get a heart of wisdom.

2582. Help us to fix our eyes and our minds on things that are important, the things that are on your heart,

2583. not just things that we want ourselves.

2584. But I thank you too that you care about the things that we want as well.

  2585. Yeah.

2586. Lord, you are the main thing. Help us keep us having you as the main thing.

2587. God, I pray that you help us forgive one another.

2588. I pray that you help us forgive those who trespass against us

2589. and choose to love one another, even when it's hard.

  2590. Yeah.

2591. Father, thank you that none of us are here today without reason.

2592. You've handpicked each and every one of us to walk through these doors,

  2593. to be here today.

2594. And I ask that you deepen us and you transform us to be more like Jesus every single moment.

2595. And we love you and we pray these things in Jesus' name.

  2596. Amen.

  2597. Amen.

  2598. Thank you. Thank you.

  2599. Thank you, friends.

2600. Um, I'm going to invite Kelly to jump on the keys for us.

2601. We're going to jump into a time of prayer,

2602. but, uh, the early church would have, would have jumped into the time of prayer,

2603. but also coupled it with worship, with song.

2604. Sometimes worship, not karaoke worship,

2605. but sometimes, I mean, this song of ascent was a song.

2606. They would have sang it.

2607. I don't quite know what the melody would have been,

2608. but they would have sang it because there's something about music

2609. that is just like this low hanging fruit of intimacy

2610. that helps gives you words that,

2611. that maybe you find hard to actually express.

2612. And music does that to you.

2613. That's why people cry at Taylor Swift concerts.

2614. Um, but music gives you that space to move into.

  2615. Okay.

2616. Uh, so we're going to, we're going to,

2617. Kelly's going to lead us in a song.

2618. Uh, feel free to engage with it.

2619. If you're sat and you're, you're not facing the screen just,

2620. and it's hard, just, just listen, just, just to be blessed by it,

2621. just be ministered by it.

2622. And then we'll go from there and then we'll break into some time of prayer.

  2623. Is that good?

2624. Lord, we need you every hour, every day,

2625. even when we don't realize we need you.

2626. And so we come to you as your children,

2627. as your family, as one body,

2628. and we pray what we've got.

2629. Help us pray the simplest, deepest prayers of our hearts.

  2630. Amen.
