  1. Morning, everyone. Morning, morning. That's it. Are we here? Are we live? Morning.

  2. It's good to see you. I'm James, again, just like Alex, part of this gathering here.

  3. We're doing something different. Actually, I feel obliged to at least give an intro,

  4. because I think each week there's probably different people who are coming for the first time.

  5. This is not what we normally do, but it's something that we're trying to do.

  6. Actually, I'm going to take this off.

  7. With the sole reason of, I have this fear, and these intros are getting shorter and shorter,

  8. so if you're here every week, then don't worry, it'll get less painful.

  9. My fear is that we run through the motions.

  10. You come to church on a Sunday morning, and you do church.

  11. You sing a few songs, you listen to someone do a TED Talk, and then you sing one more song,

  12. and then you go for lunch, and then that's it.

  13. And so I have this fear that, one, the church ends up, the service ends up like a memorial service.

  14. We're just here to talk about a guy, remember a guy who used to live, who was a good guy, and that's it.

  15. And we all kind of just say hello and then goodbye.

  16. I'm also afraid that we turn our church service into like a birthday party,

  17. where we celebrate, we hold this party for someone,

  18. but then the birthday boy, we leave in the corner, and we completely ignore him.

  19. I don't know why you're here.

  20. Part of it is to meet friends and to hear someone speak,

  21. but the main thing is to meet Jesus and to hear him speak.

  22. And then it makes me think, what on earth are we doing if we want to meet Jesus and want to hear from him,

  23. and yet we don't spend any time or enough time praying?

  24. I think the church globally is going through this pandemic, epidemic of prayerlessness.

  25. Have you been in a service where actually you've barely prayed?

  26. I have.

  27. And so for us, we're like, you know what, let's just stop.

  28. We're still small enough just to be able to say, hey, let's stop.

  29. Let's keep reminding ourselves, like with the statements, like with just what we're doing here,

  30. let's just keep reminding ourselves why we're here.

  31. Isn't that the most important thing?

  32. That you don't want to just hear from me, you want to hear from Jesus.

  33. You want to walk away from here and go, man, I heard from God, and I spent time with him,

  34. and I spent time with his people.

  35. And so we're changing things up.

  36. We're not going to sing songs at the beginning just to kind of shock ourselves out of the system.

  37. If anything, this is a little bit more like the early church, how it began.

  38. It was only 500 years ago when a guy called Zwingli, a theologian from Switzerland,

  39. put the pulpit into the middle of the service and said, this is the most important thing.

  40. And so you have the long sermon and you have everything else stressed around the side.

  41. Like in reality, when they first gathered, it was just to pray.

  42. And then they would open up the word and they would, back then it would have been the Old Testament

  43. and they would have just read through it.

  44. And then someone would have taught a little bit on it.

  45. And then they would have just worshipped and prayed.

  46. So we're going to try and do that for these next few weeks.

  47. And I hope that, yes, it may make you feel uncomfortable,

  48. but the goal is, can we get to a place where actually, man, I want to pray.

  49. I want to get to know these people.

  50. I want to get to know God.

  51. And so that's kind of the heart behind it.

  52. Last week, and hopefully through these next few weeks,

  53. teach us some different tools about how to pray that may help you when you go home.

  54. And last week we talked about the simple prayer.

  55. Pete Gregg talked about how you just pray what you've got.

  56. C.S. Lewis says, don't pray, don't lay before the throne what ought to be in you,

  57. just lay before the throne what is in you.

  58. And if it's anger, if it's frustration, if it's fear, if it's anxiety,

  59. just pray those things.

  60. That's okay.

  61. You can be like a child to God and just tell him, I want this.

  62. I need this.

  63. I'm so tired of this.

  64. I'm so angry about this.

  65. I'm so worried about this.

  66. And you just come to him and you just go, God, this is where I'm at.

  67. No pretense, no pretending.

  68. This is what I'm worried about and I want to give it to you.

  69. And I trust that you care about me.

  70. And so that was a simple prayer where you just pray what you've got.

  71. And I taught us a different kind of different things to help us.

  72. Because why?

  73. Because prayer is hard.

  74. Prayer is hard.

  75. Whether you pray on your own, whether you pray in a group, it's often very hard.

  76. So we're trying to just equip each other with some tools.

  77. St. Teresa was the one who said, everyone's a beginner when it comes to prayer.

  78. Even if you've prayed for years, you can still go back to this childlike prayer and say, God, I'm angry.

  79. That's okay.

  80. And so that's what we're going to try and do.

  81. And I told you that actually different people have different things to pray, ways to pray.

  82. John Mark Homer was the one who every morning wakes up and faces east and just prays east because that's where the Bible says that's where Jesus is going to return.

  83. And so it's kind of his way to remind himself, Jesus is returning.

  84. I want to focus on him.

  85. I want to be ready for him.

  86. So we're going to teach different ones.

  87. And I'm going to teach us one today that I found particularly interesting.

  88. It will require a little bit of movement.

  89. So what I'm going to ask you to do, actually, before I ask you to stand, because at the moment you stand, none of you will see me.

  90. So this is what we're going to do.

  91. Now, it's called the body prayer that I've been doing every day.

  92. And actually, I only recently learned this.

  93. And so I'll do it in front of all of you first, just to kind of embarrass myself a little bit.

  94. It's called the body prayer.

  95. And there's four parts that I'm going to talk you through.

  96. I do this every morning because actually when I wake up in the morning, I'm super groggy.

  97. My mind is all over the place.

  98. And something about prayer is that you've got to do it like if you're really going to connect and pray to God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, your body is a part of that.

  99. You know, typically, actually, the most common prayer style body posture wise in the Bible is lying prostrate on the floor.

  100. Okay, so that's the most common one.

  101. So you won't see this, but I'll just do it.

  102. That's the prayer.

  103. The second most common style is this.

  104. Every time you see someone pray in the Bible, they're doing either lying on the floor completely prostrate or they are standing with their hands up.

  105. The kind of prayer that we do these days, you cannot find one example in the Bible.

  106. Isn't that interesting?

  107. And yet here we do.

  108. I'm convicted that when we pray, our bodies are very important.

  109. If you watch friends talk, I had a lunch with Aidan and Alex and Ken just in the summer and we had lunch and man, that group is loud.

  110. And they're talking and their arms are waving and it's just, they're just so impassioned about roast goose and all those kinds of things that you pray with your body.

  111. So this is the body prayer.

  112. So the first part is this and you feel free to do it at home.

  113. I really enjoy doing it myself every morning.

  114. And the first one is this.

  115. Okay, so the guy who taught me, he was like, hey, touch your toes.

  116. And I was like, I've never been able to touch my toes, even when I was 10 years old.

  117. But anyway, you do this.

  118. And then you shake, you just basically shake.

  119. And what you do is when you're praying this prayer, you're basically just shaking off any, anything that's not of God.

  120. Any bad vibes, any fears, any anxieties, any pride, anything that you know that shouldn't be in your heart and shouldn't be in your body.

  121. You're just shaking it off.

  122. Just shake, shake, shake it off.

  123. Okay, so that's the, that's the first prayer.

  124. Okay.

  125. Okay.

  126. And after that, you then stand up and then you lift up your hands to do the very common posture of prayer in the Bible, which is you lift it up and you go, actually, I've shaken off all the things that aren't of you.

  127. And now I just focus on you.

  128. God, you are worthy to be praised.

  129. Hallowed be your name.

  130. What's that?

  131. It means you're different.

  132. God, you are so different.

  133. You're so big.

  134. I don't even dare imagine knowing who you truly are.

  135. And then after that, you do this.

  136. And it is the kind of a hugging yourself prayer.

  137. And this is the one where you just receive whatever God has given you, the warm embrace of what God has given you.

  138. Actually, may I operate from today, knowing that I am loved, knowing that I'm safe, knowing that he is near and he's close to me.

  139. And after that, you open up your hands like this and you offer a prayer to God and say, whatever I've just received from you, I now give back to you.

  140. Use it for your glory.

  141. Just take it back.

  142. Use it.

  143. Use me.

  144. And freely I receive and now freely I give.

  145. So those are the four parts.

  146. Is that okay?

  147. Right.

  148. Can I invite you to stand?

  149. We're going to quickly do the body prayer together.

  150. So you might have to kind of make a little bit more space for you, for yourself.

  151. Now, you can do this for however long you want.

  152. My back won't let me do it for too long.

  153. And we'll do it short.

  154. But actually, I encourage you, if you're looking for ways to start your day, this is a great one.

  155. Okay?

  156. So let's start by just kind of reaching towards your toes and shaking off.

  157. Shake it off.

  158. And I will lead us in a prayer now.

  159. God, we come to you with any fatigue we have, any cynicism we have, any fears, any worries, any pride, any insecurity.

  160. There are so many things that trouble us in this day.

  161. And so we shake it all off.

  162. Holy Spirit, we give it to you.

  163. Release it all to you.

  164. And then we stand up, reach out.

  165. Try not to hit the person next to you.

  166. There we go.

  167. Can you imagine the upper room in Acts 1?

  168. This is probably how they prayed.

  169. Look around.

  170. Isn't that crazy?

  171. It's just people going,

  172. God,

  173. you alone are holy.

  174. You alone are worthy.

  175. There is none like you.

  176. You are God in heaven.

  177. And here we are on earth.

  178. Let our words be few.

  179. You are so much bigger than we realize.

  180. And we are so much smaller.

  181. So we lift our prayers up to you.

  182. And then we embrace ourselves and hug ourselves.

  183. Give yourself a really big hug.

  184. Lord, there are so many of us who are in need of intimacy.

  185. We yearn for love.

  186. We struggle with loneliness.

  187. And yet here you are all wrapping your arms around us.

  188. Can you allow us to feel your warm embrace today?

  189. Whatever we think,

  190. whatever we say,

  191. whatever we do,

  192. comes from a place of knowing that we are loved by you.

  193. But just like a parent with a child,

  194. just

  195. you hug us,

  196. you wrap your arms around us.

  197. Never let us forget.

  198. We are loved.

  199. We are your children.

  200. Your grace just covers us.

  201. Even when we don't feel it.

  202. And finally,

  203. we open up our hands

  204. and we offer it to you.

  205. That love that we've just received from you.

  206. We seek to pass on to those who need it.

  207. Those gifts you've given us.

  208. We seek to use them for your glory.

  209. Our cups, they overflow.

  210. May they overflow.

  211. For those of us who feel empty,

  212. Lord, would you fill us up

  213. so that we can then pour out to others?

  214. We know this day isn't about us.

  215. We know it's about you

  216. being lifted high,

  217. being glorified.

  218. And so we serve you.

  219. We look to you.

  220. We worship you.

  221. And we give everything that we have to you.

  222. In your name we pray.

  223. Amen.

  224. Please take a seat.

  225. So I hope that's helpful.

  226. I hope that's a

  227. that'll be a fun way for you to try.

  228. If you're thinking,

  229. okay, I've got to stop my prayer.

  230. And you could do all of those actions

  231. within 10 seconds.

  232. It'll probably really hurt you.

  233. But

  234. it's just a good way

  235. just to

  236. start your day.

  237. And I hope that helps you.

  238. The other thing I taught

  239. us last week,

  240. again,

  241. it's not because

  242. I created it,

  243. but it's called Lectio Divina.

  244. Lectio Divina is just a way

  245. to pray through scripture.

  246. And we're actually going to do that again today.

  247. Does anyone remember

  248. how many parts there is

  249. to Lectio Divina?

  250. Anyone remember?

  251. Me?

  252. Four.

  253. Yes.

  254. Four.

  255. Of course,

  256. they're described in Latin,

  257. but in English,

  258. the first one will be read.

  259. So you simply read it.

  260. When you open up the scripture,

  261. let's say you've just done

  262. the body prayer in the morning

  263. and you're like,

  264. okay,

  265. I want to start the day

  266. with some scripture.

  267. So I'll pick a passage

  268. and we've been going through

  269. the songs of ascent,

  270. which are just simple prayers

  271. that Jesus would have prayed,

  272. that all the Jewish people

  273. heading to worship

  274. would have prayed these prayers.

  275. and you take a simple passage,

  276. doesn't have to be too long,

  277. and then you do these four steps.

  278. And the first stage

  279. is simply you read it.

  280. Okay?

  281. And Lectio Divina

  282. simply means divine reading.

  283. So you're reading it

  284. and then asking God,

  285. show me something.

  286. Tell me something.

  287. I want to hear from you.

  288. I don't just want to read

  289. and tick it off.

  290. I want to hear from you.

  291. If the word of God

  292. is living and active,

  293. this is what I want to hear from.

  294. So what you do is

  295. first you read it

  296. and then afterwards

  297. you read it again

  298. for the second time,

  299. but this time you reflect on it.

  300. And as you read those words,

  301. you're like,

  302. oh, what does that actually mean?

  303. Oh, that's interesting.

  304. And you just reflect.

  305. You can let your mind

  306. wander a little bit

  307. if you need to.

  308. And then you read it

  309. for a third time

  310. and this time you respond.

  311. You're like,

  312. oh God, man.

  313. Yeah, I'm reflecting on that

  314. and that means something to me.

  315. You're telling me something here.

  316. I need to do something.

  317. I need to act on this.

  318. And then the fourth one

  319. is you rest in it.

  320. You read it again

  321. because it's not all about doing.

  322. It's not all about instructions

  323. and obeying.

  324. It's about then just resting in him

  325. going, oh God,

  326. I receive this

  327. and I'm just going to rest

  328. in this passage,

  329. this word.

  330. Okay, so we're going to do that today

  331. and we're going to do it

  332. on another Psalm.

  333. It's Psalm 127.

  334. Afterwards,

  335. I actually asked

  336. two of our dear members

  337. of this family,

  338. one Hank and Cara,

  339. who actually have been doing this

  340. this week already

  341. and just reflecting

  342. and they're going to come up

  343. and share with us

  344. what their experience was like

  345. as they went through this passage.

  346. Is that okay?

  347. So we're going to try it.

  348. This is Lectio Divina.

  349. If you need more information

  350. about this,

  351. if you're like,

  352. oh, that's a cool way.

  353. I'd like to,

  354. I'd be interested in that.

  355. Just Google it,

  356. Lectio Divina.

  357. Actually, there's an app.

  358. There's multiple apps

  359. that lead you through it.

  360. So feel free to have a look at those.

  361. But what we're going to do is

  362. I'm going to read through Psalm 127.

  363. Because we're doing it four times,

  364. I won't ask us to stand.

  365. But I hope you share that thought with me

  366. that the Word of God

  367. is something to be revered.

  368. This is a big deal.

  369. This isn't just reading tweets

  370. or Instagram posts.

  371. This is the Word of God

  372. that has lasted thousands of years

  373. that is still here today.

  374. That speaks to us today.

  375. And we're asking the Holy Spirit

  376. to speak to us in it.

  377. Okay?

  378. So why don't we spend a moment now

  379. just to calm our hearts.

  380. I'm actually going to sit down

  381. because I'm not the center of this.

  382. But...

  383. Whatever we've come in here with today,

  384. we calm our hearts

  385. and we seek only you.

  386. The words of this psalm,

  387. a song attributed to Solomon,

  388. will be on the screen.

  389. But you can also feel free

  390. just to close your eyes

  391. and listen to it.

  392. It's a short one.

  393. It's five verses,

  394. just in case you're worried.

  395. And we're going to do the first one

  396. where we're just simply going to read it.

  397. Holy Spirit,

  398. as we open up your Word,

  399. speak to us.

  400. Calm our hearts.

  401. Steady our thoughts.

  402. So that we can hear from you.

  403. Amen.

  404. Amen.

  405. Amen.

  406. Psalm 127.

  407. Psalm 127.

  408. Unless the Lord builds the house,

  409. those who build it labor in vain.

  410. Unless the Lord watches over the city,

  411. the watchman stays awake in vain.

  412. It is in vain that you rise up early

  413. and go late to rest,

  414. eating the bread of anxious toil,

  415. for he gives to his beloved sheep.

  416. Behold,

  417. children are a heritage from the Lord,

  418. the fruit of the womb a reward.

  419. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior

  420. are the children of one's youth.

  421. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.

  422. He shall not be put to shame

  423. when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

  424. This is the word of the Lord.

  425. I'm going to read it for a second time now

  426. and this time reflect on the words.

  427. What's the author trying to say?

  428. What's God trying to show you?

  429. A Song of Solomon.

  430. Psalm 127.

  431. Unless the Lord builds the house,

  432. those who build it labor in vain.

  433. Unless the Lord watches over the city,

  434. the watchman stays awake in vain.

  435. It is in vain that you rise up early

  436. and go late to rest,

  437. eating the bread of anxious toil,

  438. for he gives to his beloved sheep.

  439. Behold,

  440. children are a heritage from the Lord,

  441. the fruit of the womb a reward.

  442. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior

  443. are the children of one's youth.

  444. Blessed is the man

  445. who fills his quiver with them.

  446. He shall not be put to shame

  447. when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

  448. Amen.

  449. Amen.

  450. Amen.

  451. .

  452. a third time.

  453. This time, ask yourself, how can I respond to this?

  454. What about my life is he trying to address?

  455. A song of Solomon, Psalm 127.

  456. Unless the Lord builds the house,

  457. those who build it labour in vain.

  458. Unless the Lord watches over the city,

  459. the watchman stays awake in vain.

  460. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest,

  461. eating the bread of anxious toil,

  462. for he gives to his beloved sheep.

  463. Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord.

  464. The fruit of the womb a reward,

  465. like arrows in the hand of a warrior,

  466. are the children of one's youth.

  467. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.

  468. He shall not be put to shame

  469. when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

  470. So we've read

  471. We've reflected

  472. We've sought to respond

  473. And so finally we just rest

  474. As we read it one last time

  475. Just rest

  476. In these words

  477. These words that transcend time

  478. Heaven and earth shall pass away

  479. But the word of the Lord remains

  480. And just rest in

  481. The security we get from reading this

  482. And learning from this

  483. A song of Solomon

  484. Psalm 127

  485. Unless the Lord builds the house

  486. Those who build it

  487. Labour in vain

  488. Unless the Lord watches over the city

  489. The watchman stays awake in vain

  490. It is in vain that you rise up early

  491. And go late to rest

  492. Eating the bread of anxious toil

  493. For he gives to his beloved sheep

  494. Behold

  495. Children are a heritage from the Lord

  496. The fruit of the womb

  497. A reward

  498. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior

  499. Are the children of one's youth

  500. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver

  501. With them

  502. He shall not be put to shame

  503. When he speaks

  504. With his enemies

  505. In the gate

  506. This

  507. Is the word of the Lord

  508. So

  509. That's 10 minutes

  510. 12 minutes

  511. I've found that it's just a

  512. Good way to start your day

  513. Just to be like

  514. Oh gosh

  515. Hey Freddie

  516. This is the most important thing

  517. These are words of truth

  518. That I can impact

  519. Into

  520. How I go about my day

  521. So

  522. I actually asked

  523. Two friends

  524. To reflect on this passage

  525. This last week

  526. Just to kind of

  527. See what they received

  528. I don't know what was going through your mind

  529. Maybe the first time

  530. You were just like all over the place

  531. It was just

  532. What's happening here?

  533. What are we doing?

  534. And then the second time

  535. You're like

  536. Oh okay

  537. I'm stilling a little bit

  538. Oh what does that even mean?

  539. And the third time

  540. You're like

  541. Oh

  542. Oh that's for me

  543. And so just

  544. To go through that

  545. I've got two friends

  546. I'm going to invite

  547. I want to invite ladies first

  548. So Cara

  549. If you're around

  550. I'm just going to

  551. Bring her up here

  552. And as she was praying

  553. Through this

  554. Trusting that the Lord

  555. Has something for her as well

  556. Alex and Cara

  557. Our dear friends

  558. Alex is in the back

  559. Carrying Ari

  560. I think right now

  561. They were with us

  562. From the very beginning

  563. From KFCI

  564. And then

  565. When we started

  566. The family gathering

  567. And they're just

  568. Actually long long long

  569. Long time friends

  570. Of senior pastor

  571. Peter Lam

  572. From Kongfuk Churchside

  573. So that's

  574. I really wanted to

  575. Bring Cara up

  576. And she's going to

  577. Share with us

  578. How she thought

  579. About this passage

  580. And I don't know

  581. Maybe

  582. Did you read it

  583. In English or Chinese?

  584. You read it in both

  585. Okay that's cool

  586. So anyway

  587. I'm just going to

  588. Give it over to you

  589. Just to share

  590. What you received

  591. It's here if you need it

  592. Thank you James

  593. For asking to share

  594. I'm not usually

  595. Asked to be

  596. Speaking in a public

  597. Place so

  598. Bear with me

  599. This week

  600. I've been

  601. Meditating and

  602. Reflecting on this

  603. Passage

  604. I actually

  605. Took James'

  606. Advice

  607. I did it in

  608. English and

  609. Chinese

  610. And he

  611. Encouraged me

  612. To memorise

  613. This as well

  614. So I did

  615. And it's actually

  616. Very helpful

  617. Because once

  618. You actually

  619. Internalise it

  620. It just comes

  621. In even more

  622. So here

  623. A couple

  624. Quick personal

  625. Thoughts that I

  626. Have

  627. First thing

  628. Is

  629. In reflection

  630. When I'm reading

  631. I just feel

  632. A lot of comfort

  633. I have a lot of

  634. Peace reading

  635. This passage

  636. Because

  637. Knowing that

  638. God is in

  639. Control

  640. Of it all

  641. And I think

  642. That this is

  643. Very important

  644. To me

  645. Like growing up

  646. I know that

  647. God is there

  648. And that

  649. He is in

  650. Control of

  651. Everything

  652. It just brings

  653. Me a lot of

  654. Peace

  655. And he

  656. Talks about

  657. How God

  658. Is actually

  659. Partnering

  660. With the

  661. People

  662. Unless

  663. God is

  664. Building

  665. Unless

  666. The Lord

  667. Builds the

  668. House

  669. Those who

  670. Labor

  671. Those who

  672. Build it

  673. Labor in

  674. Fain

  675. And unless

  676. God watches

  677. Over the

  678. City

  679. The watchman

  680. Stays awake

  681. In faint

  682. And not

  683. Only

  684. Is he

  685. In control

  686. He is

  687. Actually

  688. Asking me

  689. To partner

  690. With him

  691. And knowing

  692. That God

  693. Is partnering

  694. With us

  695. Gives me

  696. A lot

  697. Of comfort

  698. And he

  699. Provides

  700. As well

  701. Later on

  702. In the passage

  703. He talks

  704. About children

  705. And I

  706. Just feel

  707. So so

  708. Loved

  709. By the

  710. Lord

  711. When I

  712. Was resting

  713. In the

  714. Word

  715. In his

  716. Presence

  717. I can

  718. Feel that

  719. He

  720. Is so

  721. Loving

  722. And

  723. After all

  724. I'm just

  725. A sinner

  726. You know

  727. I for sure

  728. Every day

  729. I'm just

  730. I'm undeserving

  731. Of all

  732. These but

  733. Time after

  734. Time

  735. Lord is

  736. Still

  737. Pursuing

  738. After me

  739. And he's

  740. Loving

  741. Me

  742. To like

  743. No end

  744. This gives

  745. Me a lot

  746. Of comfort

  747. And then

  748. The second

  749. Thing is

  750. The word

  751. Unless

  752. Unless

  753. Means

  754. It's like

  755. Conditional

  756. Like unless

  757. God is

  758. There

  759. In reflection

  760. I feel like

  761. If God

  762. Is not

  763. In the

  764. Things that

  765. We do

  766. Like it's

  767. Meaningless

  768. The passage

  769. Talks about

  770. Everything is

  771. In vain

  772. If he's

  773. Not there

  774. Like whatever

  775. You do

  776. Is a waste

  777. Of time

  778. And it

  779. Just gives

  780. Me like

  781. It reminds

  782. Me it's a

  783. Good reminder

  784. That whatever

  785. I do

  786. Like cannot

  787. Leave God

  788. Out of it

  789. Like he

  790. Just has to

  791. Be there

  792. And then

  793. Later on

  794. The passage

  795. Talk about

  796. Children

  797. I grew

  798. Up in

  799. Church

  800. This passage

  801. Is actually

  802. Very familiar

  803. To me

  804. I read

  805. About it

  806. Many many

  807. Times

  808. But I

  809. Think I

  810. Did not

  811. Understand

  812. It deeper

  813. Until I

  814. Have my

  815. Own

  816. So my

  817. Daughter

  818. Is one

  819. Year old

  820. Now

  821. She's

  822. Actually

  823. Turning

  824. 13 months

  825. End of

  826. The week

  827. Sometimes

  828. Well when

  829. I read

  830. The passage

  831. Children

  832. Like they

  833. Are like

  834. Arrows

  835. In the

  836. Hand of a

  837. Warrior

  838. Some days

  839. I feel like

  840. This passage

  841. Read

  842. They are

  843. Like grenades

  844. In the

  845. Hand of a

  846. Warrior

  847. My child

  848. Is so

  849. Wildcat

  850. But then

  851. She is a

  852. Heritage

  853. She is a

  854. Gift

  855. From the

  856. Lord

  857. Which prompts

  858. Me to

  859. Think like

  860. What kind

  861. Of legacy

  862. I can leave

  863. Behind for my

  864. Child

  865. Like what

  866. Gift can I

  867. Give to her

  868. Now that I've

  869. Received such

  870. A great gift

  871. From God

  872. Very early

  873. On in

  874. Our

  875. Journey of

  876. Expecting

  877. That my

  878. Daughter is

  879. Born

  880. Alex and

  881. I just

  882. Recognize that

  883. She is

  884. Our child

  885. That is

  886. Entrusted to

  887. Us by

  888. The Lord

  889. But after

  890. All she

  891. Is God's

  892. Child

  893. She is

  894. God's

  895. Daughter

  896. So am

  897. I

  898. I'm

  899. God's

  900. Daughter

  901. I think

  902. The best

  903. Thing that

  904. We can

  905. Do as

  906. Parents

  907. Is to

  908. Point

  909. Her

  910. To God

  911. So that

  912. She can

  913. Have a

  914. Personal

  915. Relationship

  916. With God

  917. I think

  918. That is

  919. Like the

  920. Biggest

  921. Legacy

  922. If we're

  923. Talking about

  924. Heritage

  925. It's like

  926. The biggest

  927. Legacy that

  928. I can give

  929. To her

  930. Other than

  931. Well we

  932. Don't have

  933. A lot of

  934. Fortune

  935. We

  936. We just

  937. Don't have

  938. Anything

  939. But I

  940. Think

  941. Like a

  942. Reflection

  943. My prayer

  944. For her

  945. Is that

  946. She will

  947. Learn

  948. Grow to

  949. Understand

  950. The Lord

  951. Know

  952. His heart

  953. And love

  954. People around

  955. Her well

  956. So yeah

  957. I think

  958. That's like

  959. The biggest

  960. Legacy

  961. Thank you

  962. Thank you

  963. Thank you

  964. So much

  965. Thank you

  966. Thank you

  967. So much

  968. Actually it's

  969. Incredible

  970. Even just

  971. Having

  972. Being able to

  973. Hear other

  974. People hear

  975. From God

  976. As well

  977. And it's

  978. Just different

  979. She picked

  980. Out things

  981. That I

  982. Never noticed

  983. Either

  984. And that's

  985. The beauty

  986. Of what

  987. We're doing

  988. Here

  989. We all

  990. Have access

  991. To him

  992. To hear

  993. From him

  994. To commune

  995. With him

  996. So the

  997. Second person

  998. I'm going

  999. To bring

  1000. Up

  1001. Is Hank

  1002. Now

  1003. Hank

  1004. Can I

  1005. Invite you

  1006. Up

  1007. We can

  1008. Give Hank

  1009. A round

  1010. Of applause

  1011. As well

  1012. Unless the

  1013. Lord builds

  1014. The house

  1015. Those who

  1016. Build it

  1017. Build it

  1018. In vain

  1019. Unless the

  1020. Lord used

  1021. Hank

  1022. We actually

  1023. All wouldn't

  1024. Be here

  1025. Okay

  1026. Because Hank

  1027. Here is

  1028. The chairman

  1029. Of the deacons

  1030. Board of

  1031. The wider

  1032. Church

  1033. Gong

  1034. Ful

  1035. Tong

  1036. He looks

  1037. Like a

  1038. Very serious

  1039. Man

  1040. But I

  1041. Assure you

  1042. This guy

  1043. This man

  1044. Is God

  1045. Fearing

  1046. And just

  1047. Has the

  1048. Softest

  1049. Heart

  1050. Honestly

  1051. And actually

  1052. There's often

  1053. This thing

  1054. About okay

  1055. What are your

  1056. Church leaders

  1057. Doing

  1058. What are they

  1059. Like

  1060. Are they

  1061. Like CEOs

  1062. In a boardroom

  1063. And they

  1064. Have their

  1065. Meetings

  1066. In the

  1067. Dark

  1068. No

  1069. This

  1070. Actually

  1071. Himself

  1072. Tony

  1073. And

  1074. Agnes

  1075. I've

  1076. Just watched

  1077. Them just

  1078. Be such

  1079. Faithful

  1080. People

  1081. Who pray

  1082. There's one

  1083. Time

  1084. I

  1085. Try not

  1086. To embarrass

  1087. Him

  1088. We're

  1089. In a

  1090. Smaller

  1091. Prayer

  1092. Meeting

  1093. And

  1094. Hank

  1095. Got down

  1096. On his

  1097. Knees

  1098. To pray

  1099. And I

  1100. Saw from

  1101. Across the

  1102. Room

  1103. I was like

  1104. That's

  1105. Someone

  1106. That I

  1107. Want to

  1108. Follow

  1109. Someone

  1110. Who just

  1111. Is willing

  1112. To do

  1113. That

  1114. I was

  1115. Mildly

  1116. Worried

  1117. He

  1118. Wouldn't

  1119. Be able

  1120. To get

  1121. Back up

  1122. But he

  1123. Did

  1124. To

  1125. But it

  1126. Was

  1127. That

  1128. Show

  1129. Of

  1130. Humility

  1131. That

  1132. Just

  1133. Inspires

  1134. Me

  1135. To keep

  1136. Serving

  1137. With a

  1138. Brother

  1139. Like him

  1140. So he

  1141. Also has

  1142. Been

  1143. Reflecting

  1144. On the

  1145. Same

  1146. Passage

  1147. And he's

  1148. Now just

  1149. Going to

  1150. Bless us

  1151. With what

  1152. He

  1153. Received

  1154. Thank you

  1155. Very much

  1156. For inviting

  1157. Me

  1158. I

  1159. Happen

  1160. To have

  1161. Recently

  1162. Built

  1163. A house

  1164. And I

  1165. Happen

  1166. To have

  1167. A lot

  1168. Of kids

  1169. But I'm

  1170. Not going

  1171. To talk

  1172. About my

  1173. Personal

  1174. Life

  1175. About my

  1176. House

  1177. Or my

  1178. Kids

  1179. I'll

  1180. Spend

  1181. The next

  1182. Few minutes

  1183. Just talk

  1184. About

  1185. The thing

  1186. That

  1187. Mostly

  1188. Occupers

  1189. My

  1190. Time

  1191. And my

  1192. Life

  1193. I'm

  1194. Very much

  1195. Retired

  1196. And most

  1197. Of the

  1198. Time I

  1199. Spend

  1200. I spend

  1201. Serving

  1202. In the

  1203. Church

  1204. This

  1205. Church

  1206. Is my

  1207. Church

  1208. It's our

  1209. Church

  1210. But at

  1211. The same

  1212. Time

  1213. It's

  1214. Really

  1215. God's

  1216. Church

  1217. It's

  1218. Not

  1219. Really

  1220. Mine

  1221. I'm

  1222. Just

  1223. Helping

  1224. To take

  1225. Care

  1226. Of

  1227. I

  1228. Think

  1229. This

  1230. First

  1231. Part

  1232. Of

  1233. The message

  1234. Of

  1235. Psalm

  1236. 127

  1237. Is

  1238. Very

  1239. Clear

  1240. This

  1241. Is

  1242. God's

  1243. Church

  1244. The

  1245. Privileged

  1246. To have

  1247. A small

  1248. Part

  1249. In it

  1250. And

  1251. God

  1252. Allow

  1253. Me

  1254. To

  1255. Spend

  1256. Some

  1257. Time

  1258. Helping

  1259. To

  1260. Shape

  1261. Some

  1262. Of

  1263. The

  1264. Strategy

  1265. Of

  1266. The

  1267. Church

  1268. The

  1269. Things

  1270. That

  1271. We

  1272. Need

  1273. To

  1274. Do

  1275. God

  1276. So

  1277. The

  1278. Fact

  1279. That

  1280. It's

  1281. God's

  1282. Church

  1283. Also

  1284. Gives

  1285. A lot

  1286. Of

  1287. Comfort

  1288. That

  1289. I

  1290. Don't

  1291. Need

  1292. To

  1293. Worry

  1294. About

  1295. Messing

  1296. Up

  1297. Okay

  1298. By the

  1299. Way

  1300. Everywhere

  1301. You

  1302. Go

  1303. You

  1304. Always

  1305. Face

  1306. Criticism

  1307. Even

  1308. In

  1309. A

  1310. Church

  1311. So

  1312. Many

  1313. Of

  1314. The

  1315. Things

  1316. That

  1317. We

  1318. Do

  1319. We

  1320. Get

  1321. Criticized

  1322. But

  1323. It's

  1324. God's

  1325. Church

  1326. As

  1327. Long

  1328. As

  1329. We

  1330. Truly

  1331. Believe

  1332. We

  1333. Following

  1334. His

  1335. Will

  1336. I

  1337. Think

  1338. There's

  1339. One

  1340. Fellow

  1341. In

  1342. North

  1343. America

  1344. Called

  1345. Larry

  1346. Osborne

  1347. He

  1348. Wrote

  1349. A

  1350. Book

  1351. About

  1352. Sticky

  1353. Church

  1354. Very

  1355. Good

  1356. Book

  1357. By

  1358. The

  1359. Way

  1360. He

  1361. Talk

  1362. About

  1363. In

  1364. Many

  1365. Settings

  1366. Including

  1367. A

  1368. Church

  1369. You

  1370. Always

  1371. Have

  1372. Squeaky

  1373. Wills

  1374. They

  1375. Will

  1376. Always

  1377. Make

  1378. Noises

  1379. Doesn't

  1380. Matter

  1381. How

  1382. Much

  1383. You

  1384. Fix

  1385. It

  1386. It

  1387. Will

  1388. Always

  1389. Make

  1390. Noises

  1391. That

  1392. Bother

  1393. You

  1394. Don't

  1395. Be

  1396. Bothered

  1397. By

  1398. It

  1399. Okay

  1400. This

  1401. Is

  1402. God's

  1403. Church

  1404. Do

  1405. The

  1406. Best

  1407. You

  1408. Can

  1409. To

  1410. Help

  1411. Be

  1412. Grateful

  1413. To

  1414. Be

  1415. Part

  1416. Of

  1417. It

  1418. I'm

  1419. Very

  1420. Grateful

  1421. I'm

  1422. Part

  1423. Of

  1424. This

  1425. I'm

  1426. Very

  1427. Grateful

  1428. I've

  1429. Been

  1430. Able

  1431. To

  1432. Help

  1433. Not

  1434. Just

  1435. In

  1436. Building

  1437. !

  1438. KFCI

  1439. Helping

  1440. To

  1441. Recruit

  1442. John

  1443. Snell

  1444. Grove

  1445. And

  1446. John

  1447. Help

  1448. Recruit

  1449. James

  1450. And

  1451. James

  1452. Spott

  1453. And

  1454. All

  1455. These

  1456. Young

  1457. Leaders

  1458. That

  1459. We

  1460. Have

  1461. So

  1462. Be

  1463. Grateful

  1464. For

  1465. It

  1466. Because

  1467. It's

  1468. God's

  1469. Church

  1470. The

  1471. Second

  1472. Part

  1473. It's

  1474. To

  1475. Me

  1476. It's

  1477. All

  1478. About

  1479. Building

  1480. Up

  1481. The

  1482. Next

  1483. Generations

  1484. I'm

  1485. Very

  1486. Grateful

  1487. That

  1488. While

  1489. Nominally

  1490. To

  1491. The

  1492. Board

  1493. Tony

  1494. And

  1495. I

  1496. Are

  1497. Still

  1498. Very

  1499. Much

  1500. Involved

  1501. In

  1502. Leading

  1503. This

  1504. Group

  1505. But

  1506. We

  1507. Didn't

  1508. Have

  1509. To

  1510. Do

  1511. Much

  1512. Of

  1513. Anything

  1514. It's

  1515. Joseph

  1516. It's

  1517. Alex

  1518. It's

  1519. Aaron

  1520. It's

  1521. Obviously

  1522. James

  1523. Doing

  1524. All

  1525. The

  1526. Leading

  1527. Okay

  1528. I

  1529. Am

  1530. Truly

  1531. Seeing

  1532. God's

  1533. Work

  1534. In

  1535. This

  1536. In

  1537. Bringing

  1538. Up

  1539. Our

  1540. Next

  1541. Generation

  1542. Leaders

  1543. That

  1544. Tony

  1545. And

  1546. I

  1547. Will

  1548. Be

  1549. Facing

  1550. Out

  1551. Pretty

  1552. Soon

  1553. But

  1554. This

  1555. Is

  1556. The

  1557. Whole

  1558. Point

  1559. About

  1560. This

  1561. Church

  1562. We

  1563. Want

  1564. To

  1565. Do

  1566. It

  1567. In

  1568. A

  1569. Family

  1570. Setting

  1571. Bring

  1572. Up

  1573. The

  1574. Next

  1575. Generation

  1576. And

  1577. You

  1578. Guys

  1579. Will

  1580. Carry

  1581. On

  1582. And

  1583. Build

  1584. This

  1585. Church

  1586. Up

  1587. Thank

  1588. You

  1589. Very

  1590. Much

  1591. Thank

  1592. You

  1593. Hank

  1594. Just

  1595. It's

  1596. Good

  1597. Just

  1598. To

  1599. Hear

  1600. For

  1601. All

  1602. Of

  1603. Us

  1604. To

  1605. Hear

  1606. A

  1607. Little

  1608. Bit

  1609. Of

  1610. The

  1611. Heart

  1612. For

  1613. The

  1614. Church

  1615. Leadership

  1616. And

  1617. Just

  1618. Maybe

  1619. To

  1620. Add

  1621. On

  1622. One

  1623. Thing

  1624. There

  1625. Is

  1626. No

  1627. Joe

  1628. Without

  1629. Alex

  1630. There

  1631. Is

  1632. No

  1633. Alex

  1634. Without

  1635. Kara

  1636. There

  1637. Is

  1638. No

  1639. Aaron

  1640. Without

  1641. Rebecca

  1642. And

  1643. There

  1644. Definitely

  1645. Is

  1646. No

  1647. James

  1648. Without

  1649. Christina

  1650. Okay

  1651. So

  1652. This

  1653. Is

  1654. A

  1655. Whole

  1656. This

  1657. Is

  1658. A

  1659. Whole

  1660. Team

  1661. And

  1662. A

  1663. Whole

  1664. Family

  1665. Together

  1666. Just

  1667. Wanting

  1668. To

  1669. Just

  1670. Seek

  1671. The

  1672. Lord

  1673. In

  1674. All

  1675. Of

  1676. This

  1677. And

  1678. Recently

  1679. I

  1680. Introduced

  1681. A

  1682. Few

  1683. Friends

  1684. To

  1685. A

  1686. Mentor

  1687. Of

  1688. Mine

  1689. And

  1690. I

  1691. Told

  1692. Her

  1693. Hey

  1694. This

  1695. Is

  1696. My

  1697. Friend

  1698. And

  1699. He's

  1700. In

  1701. Charge

  1702. Of

  1703. This

  1704. Ministry

  1705. And

  1706. This

  1707. Is

  1708. My

  1709. Other

  1710. Friend

  1711. And

  1712. She's

  1713. In

  1714. Charge

  1715. Of

  1716. This

  1717. And

  1718. My

  1719. Mentor

  1720. Just

  1721. Said

  1722. Oh

  1723. James

  1724. You

  1725. Have

  1726. People

  1727. In

  1728. Charge

  1729. Of

  1730. Things

  1731. Do

  1732. You

  1733. Implying

  1734. That

  1735. You

  1736. Don't

  1737. You're

  1738. Not

  1739. In

  1740. Charge

  1741. Or

  1742. Anything

  1743. God's

  1744. In

  1745. Charge

  1746. And

  1747. God's

  1748. In

  1749. Charge

  1750. And

  1751. That's

  1752. Okay

  1753. We're

  1754. Just

  1755. Here

  1756. To

  1757. Follow

  1758. Instructions

  1759. So

  1760. Thank

  1761. You

  1762. Cara

  1763. Thank

  1764. You

  1765. Hank

  1766. And

  1767. What

  1768. I'm

  1769. Going to

  1770. Do

  1771. Now

  1772. Is

  1773. In

  1774. A

  1775. Bit

  1776. I'm

  1777. Invite

  1778. Paul

  1779. To

  1780. Lead

  1781. Us

  1782. In

  1783. A

  1784. Time

  1785. Of

  1786. Worship

  1787. And

  1788. Prayer

  1789. But

  1790. Before

  1791. Then

  1792. I

  1793. Want

  1794. Share

  1795. A

  1796. Unless

  1797. The

  1798. Lord

  1799. Builds

  1800. The

  1801. House

  1802. Those

  1803. Who

  1804. Build

  1805. It

  1806. Labor

  1807. In

  1808. Vain

  1809. And

  1810. Then

  1811. It

  1812. Talks

  1813. About

  1814. Security

  1815. Unless

  1816. The

  1817. Lord

  1818. Watches

  1819. Over

  1820. The

  1821. City

  1822. Those

  1823. Who

  1824. Are

  1825. Watching

  1826. Over

  1827. It

  1828. They're

  1829. Staying

  1830. Awake

  1831. In

  1832. Vain

  1833. It

  1834. Is

  1835. In

  1836. Vain

  1837. That

  1838. You

  1839. Rise

  1840. Up

  1841. Early

  1842. And

  1843. Go

  1844. Late

  1845. To

  1846. Rest

  1847. And

  1848. You're

  1849. Eating

  1850. The

  1851. Bread

  1852. Of

  1853. Anxious

  1854. Toil

  1855. And

  1856. Then

  1857. He

  1858. Talks

  1859. About

  1860. Children

  1861. What

  1862. The

  1863. Psalmist

  1864. Is

  1865. Security

  1866. And

  1867. We

  1868. Need

  1869. Family

  1870. Right

  1871. Those

  1872. Are

  1873. Things

  1874. When

  1875. You

  1876. Think

  1877. How

  1878. Good

  1879. Is

  1880. Your

  1881. Life

  1882. Right

  1883. Now

  1884. You're

  1885. Thinking

  1886. About

  1887. This

  1888. Do

  1889. I

  1890. Have

  1891. A

  1892. House

  1893. Do

  1894. I

  1895. Have

  1896. A

  1897. Place

  1898. To

  1899. Stay

  1900. Or

  1901. Can

  1902. I

  1903. Pay

  1904. Rent

  1905. That's

  1906. The

  1907. Big

  1908. Thing

  1909. Right

  1910. And

  1911. The

  1912. Second

  1913. Thing

  1914. Is

  1915. Do I

  1916. Feel

  1917. Safe

  1918. Those

  1919. Of

  1920. Of

  1921. Who

  1922. Have

  1923. Grown

  1924. In

  1925. The

  1926. West

  1927. And

  1928. We've

  1929. Gone

  1930. Recently

  1931. That's

  1932. All

  1933. Of

  1934. Us

  1935. That's

  1936. All

  1937. We're

  1938. Doing

  1939. And

  1940. Of

  1941. Course

  1942. We're

  1943. Also

  1944. Looking

  1945. For

  1946. Family

  1947. This

  1948. Psalm

  1949. Tells

  1950. You

  1951. Something

  1952. Which

  1953. Is

  1954. Interesting

  1955. Which

  1956. Is

  1957. Hey

  1958. God's

  1959. The

  1960. One

  1961. Who

  1962. Gives

  1963. You

  1964. All

  1965. These

  1966. Things

  1967. And

  1968. The

  1969. First

  1970. Question

  1971. I

  1972. Had

  1973. Was

  1974. This

  1975. What

  1976. Building

  1977. Projects

  1978. Do

  1979. I

  1980. Have

  1981. In

  1982. My

  1983. Life

  1984. James

  1985. What

  1986. Are

  1987. The

  1988. Projects

  1989. That

  1990. You've

  1991. Got

  1992. Going

  1993. In

  1994. Your

  1995. Life

  1996. That

  1997. You

  1998. Think

  1999. You're

  2000. Building

  2001. Maybe

  2002. It

  2003. Is

  2004. A

  2005. House

  2006. That

  2007. You're

  2008. Trying

  2009. Maybe

  2010. It

  2011. Is

  2012. A

  2013. CV

  2014. Maybe

  2015. It

  2016. Is

  2017. Some

  2018. Kind

  2019. Of

  2020. Ambitions

  2021. For

  2022. Your

  2023. Work

  2024. Whatever

  2025. It

  2026. Is

  2027. We

  2028. All

  2029. Have

  2030. Our

  2031. Building

  2032. Projects

  2033. Do

  2034. We

  2035. Not

  2036. We

  2037. All

  2038. Have

  2039. Them

  2040. Whether

  2041. We

  2042. Admit

  2043. To

  2044. It

  2045. Or

  2046. Not

  2047. We

  2048. All

  2049. Have

  2050. Our

  2051. Building

  2052. Projects

  2053. Of

  2054. Where

  2055. We

  2056. Want

  2057. To

  2058. Get

  2059. To

  2060. And

  2061. What

  2062. God

  2063. Is

  2064. Saying

  2065. !

  2066. Hey

  2067. He

  2068. Will

  2069. He

  2070. Might

  2071. Give

  2072. Us

  2073. These

  2074. Things

  2075. But

  2076. Unless

  2077. He

  2078. Builds

  2079. It

  2080. You're

  2081. Doing

  2082. It

  2083. In

  2084. Vain

  2085. What

  2086. He

  2087. Wants

  2088. To

  2089. Do

  2090. Is

  2091. Partner

  2092. With

  2093. You

  2094. In

  2095. It

  2096. He

  2097. Doesn't

  2098. Need

  2099. You

  2100. But

  2101. He

  2102. Does

  2103. Desire

  2104. You

  2105. That's

  2106. The

  2107. Goal

  2108. Of

  2109. What

  2110. He's

  2111. Trying

  2112. To

  2113. Do

  2114. Here

  2115. And

  2116. So

  2117. What

  2118. Building

  2119. Projects

  2120. Do

  2121. We

  2122. Have

  2123. That

  2124. Actually

  2125. We

  2126. Need

  2127. To

  2128. Surrender

  2129. This

  2130. Is

  2131. A

  2132. Prayer

  2133. Of

  2134. Surrender

  2135. This

  2136. Is

  2137. Well

  2138. God

  2139. You

  2140. Know

  2141. Actually

  2142. None

  2143. Who's

  2144. Fairly

  2145. Comfortable

  2146. With

  2147. Where

  2148. They're

  2149. At

  2150. In

  2151. Their

  2152. Life

  2153. Like

  2154. I've

  2155. Got

  2156. A

  2157. Decent

  2158. House

  2159. I've

  2160. Got

  2161. A

  2162. Nice

  2163. Family

  2164. I've

  2165. Got

  2166. This

  2167. Freddie

  2168. You're

  2169. Happy

  2170. That's

  2171. Good

  2172. Man

  2173. Long

  2174. May

  2175. That

  2176. Continue

  2177. !

  2178. Work

  2179. That

  2180. I

  2181. Put

  2182. In

  2183. I

  2184. Studied

  2185. Hard

  2186. I

  2187. Am

  2188. Studying

  2189. Hard

  2190. As

  2191. A

  2192. Doctor

  2193. To

  2194. Pass

  2195. My

  2196. Exams

  2197. I

  2198. Am

  2199. Working

  2200. I

  2201. Got

  2202. To

  2203. Where

  2204. I

  2205. Am

  2206. Because

  2207. Of

  2208. What

  2209. I

  2210. Did

  2211. My

  2212. Efforts

  2213. And

  2214. That

  2215. Sounds

  2216. Admirable

  2217. And

  2218. That

  2219. Sounds

  2220. Almost

  2221. Right

  2222. Until

  2223. You

  2224. Realize

  2225. Well

  2226. But

  2227. Aren't

  2228. You

  2229. Just

  2230. Where

  2231. You're

  2232. At

  2233. Because

  2234. Of

  2235. Where

  2236. You

  2237. Were

  2238. Born

  2239. And

  2240. The

  2241. Family

  2242. You

  2243. Were

  2244. Born

  2245. Into

  2246. !

  2247. You

  2248. Can

  2249. Work

  2250. As

  2251. Hard

  2252. As

  2253. You

  2254. Want

  2255. You're

  2256. Probably

  2257. Not

  2258. Sitting

  2259. Where

  2260. You

  2261. Are

  2262. Right

  2263. You

  2264. Might

  2265. Have

  2266. Studied

  2267. Really

  2268. Hard

  2269. For

  2270. Your

  2271. DSEs

  2272. And

  2273. For

  2274. Your

  2275. University

  2276. Degree

  2277. But

  2278. If

  2279. Your

  2280. Family

  2281. Didn't

  2282. Put

  2283. You

  2284. Into

  2285. The

  2286. School

  2287. You

  2288. Went

  2289. Into

  2290. You

  2291. Didn't

  2292. Have

  2293. A

  2294. Choice

  2295. Which

  2296. Family

  2297. You

  2298. Got

  2299. Put

  2300. Into

  2301. !

  2302. Builds

  2303. The

  2304. House

  2305. Those

  2306. Who

  2307. Build

  2308. It

  2309. Labor

  2310. In

  2311. What

  2312. Building

  2313. Projects

  2314. Have

  2315. You

  2316. Taken

  2317. On

  2318. I

  2319. Got

  2320. To

  2321. Do

  2322. This

  2323. This

  2324. Makes

  2325. Me

  2326. Think of

  2327. This

  2328. Church

  2329. As

  2330. Well

  2331. Hank

  2332. Was

  2333. Talking

  2334. About

  2335. Church

  2336. I'm

  2337. Looking

  2338. At

  2339. This

  2340. Church

  2341. Such

  2342. Such

  2343. A

  2344. Such

  2345. A

  2346. Great

  2347. Thing

  2348. That

  2349. We're

  2350. Doing

  2351. It's

  2352. So

  2353. Exciting

  2354. We

  2355. Get

  2356. To

  2357. Have

  2358. Wine

  2359. !

  2360. Tasting

  2361. Class

  2362. And

  2363. Classes

  2364. And

  2365. Those

  2366. Who

  2367. Are

  2368. Frustrated

  2369. With

  2370. Each

  2371. Other

  2372. But

  2373. What

  2374. Good

  2375. Are

  2376. We

  2377. If

  2378. God

  2379. Is

  2380. Not

  2381. Building

  2382. This

  2383. What

  2384. Terrifies

  2385. Me

  2386. The

  2387. Most

  2388. Is

  2389. You

  2390. Could

  2391. Build

  2392. Something

  2393. That

  2394. Looks

  2395. Very

  2396. Shiny

  2397. And

  2398. Big

  2399. On

  2400. The

  2401. Outside

  2402. But

  2403. God

  2404. Is

  2405. Not

  2406. In

  2407. It

  2408. Jesus

  2409. Talks

  2410. To

  2411. The

  2412. Church

  2413. In

  2414. Revelation

  2415. And

  2416. Says

  2417. That

  2418. You

  2419. You

  2420. Forgotten

  2421. Why

  2422. You

  2423. Were

  2424. Here

  2425. And

  2426. Now

  2427. What

  2428. Am I

  2429. Going

  2430. To

  2431. Do

  2432. I

  2433. To

  2434. Tear

  2435. You

  2436. Down

  2437. I

  2438. Want

  2439. To

  2440. Break

  2441. It

  2442. Down

  2443. These

  2444. Things

  2445. Unless

  2446. The

  2447. Lord

  2448. Builds

  2449. The

  2450. House

  2451. Those

  2452. !

  2453. Who

  2454. Build

  2455. It

  2456. Labor

  2457. In

  2458. Vain

  2459. We

  2460. Seeking

  2461. Prosperity

  2462. We're

  2463. Seeking

  2464. A

  2465. Building

  2466. And

  2467. Security

  2468. Unless

  2469. The

  2470. Lord

  2471. Watches

  2472. Over

  2473. The

  2474. City

  2475. Those

  2476. Who

  2477. Watch

  2478. Over

  2479. It

  2480. Stay

  2481. Awake

  2482. In

  2483. Vain

  2484. Don't

  2485. We

  2486. All

  2487. Want

  2488. That

  2489. Like

  2490. The

  2491. Security

  2492. Don't

  2493. You

  2494. Want

  2495. That

  2496. When

  2497. It

  2498. Comes

  2499. To

  2500. Health

  2501. We

  2502. Were

  2503. Just

  2504. My

  2505. Brother

  2506. And

  2507. We're

  2508. Just

  2509. Sharing

  2510. Actually

  2511. We've

  2512. Always

  2513. Enjoyed

  2514. Flying

  2515. But

  2516. Him

  2517. And

  2518. Alex

  2519. And

  2520. EJ

  2521. Have

  2522. Just

  2523. Came

  2524. Back

  2525. And

  2526. Christina

  2527. That

  2528. Turbulence

  2529. That

  2530. She

  2531. Experienced

  2532. Flying

  2533. Back

  2534. To

  2535. The

  2536. K

  2537. With

  2538. The

  2539. Kids

  2540. And

  2541. When

  2542. You're

  2543. On

  2544. A

  2545. Plane

  2546. You

  2547. Put

  2548. That

  2549. Seat

  2550. On

  2551. That

  2552. That

  2553. That's

  2554. Cute

  2555. But

  2556. If

  2557. There's

  2558. Something

  2559. Wrong

  2560. With

  2561. The

  2562. Plane

  2563. If

2564. there's something wrong with outside, you're not in control. You can hold tight onto that seatbelt,

2565. but you're not really in control. We look for security. We look for health. Those of you who

2566. have kids, you're like, oh God, please just look after my kids. Please just, when they cross the

2567. road, like, you know, you don't have any control and you have to surrender. You know, I could do

2568. it. I could be right next to my kids and they will still get hurt. Unless the Lord watches over the

2569. city, those who stay awake, stay awake in vain. And that's the pandemic showed us that you can do

2570. whatever you want. You can spray your hands as much as you want to. You can wear three masks,

2571. but if it's coming for you, it's coming for you and it's coming for the whole world. And there's

2572. nothing you can do about it. Where's your security? So one, what building projects are you embarking on?

2573. Number two, where do you think you're actually getting that security from? What security are you

2574. craving? And do you realize that actually God is the only place you can find that?

2575. And then it says this, and it's interesting. It says, it is in vain that you rise up early and go

2576. late to rest, which is what Hong Kongers do. Eating the bread of anxious toil. You'll get some bread,

2577. but it is anxious toil. You're eating it and you're just anxious. You're like, oh, I've worked hard for

2578. this. I'm still nervous. And you see this everywhere. You see, I've met people who are

2579. very high up in their industry and they're contemplating giving up their job. And I've

2580. heard them say this and it's surreal. The moment they say it to me, they're like, oh yeah, I might,

2581. I might finish my job, but you know, I'm just, I'm just worried about my finances. And they're like

2582. a partner of this firm. And I'm like, oh, you're worried about your finances.

2583. Oh, anyway, your driver's just about pulling up and coming to pick you up now.

2584. And that's an extreme example, but don't we have that? Oh God, I'm so worried.

2585. And every time I do work harder, and that's why I have to work harder. Because when you're working

2586. harder, when you're staying up late and when you're getting up early to do the best that you can,

2587. now that isn't a bad thing. God created us to work and do well. But if that is coming from a place of,

  2588. if I don't do this, I won't get what I want. I won't get the prosperity that I want. I won't get the

2589. security I won. Then you've got it wrong. Then you've got it twisted. Because then this next line

2590. is key. And I wanted to show you another type of prayer that you can do. The next line says this,

2591. for he gives to his beloved sheep. He's like, you're doing everything in vain. You're building

2592. that project. You're trying to stay awake to keep your family healthy and safe. You're trying to work

2593. hard. All of it is in vain. Why? Why is it in vain? Because he gives to his beloved sheep.

2594. And this is another type of prayer I want to help you. If doing Lectio Divina for a whole psalm is

2595. too long, I encourage you just to pick one line like this and pray that one line. And this is how

2596. you do it. And I think this is a fascinating, it is an easy way to do it. What I would do is I would

2597. actually highlight different words as I'm praying this prayer. So, and I'll reflect on it. I'll tell you

2598. what I mean. For he gives to his beloved sheep. While I do, as I'll pray, I'll go, for he gives to his beloved

2599. sheep. Him, not anything else. For he gives to his beloved sheep. And just rest in that and just remind

2600. he's the one who is doing this. And once you've finished the first word, you can do the second one.

2601. For he gives to his beloved sheep. What does that mean? That means it's not from us. We can't get it

2602. ourselves. He's the one who gives. He's the giver. Man, it's not even me. For he gives to his beloved

2603. sheep. Then I reflect on that. And then I'm like, oh, are we okay? You okay there, Flo?

  2604. Sleep.

2605. It is not sleep. Though sleep is also very important.

  2606. Sleep, sleep, sleep.

2607. Oh my goodness. Anyway, sorry. I'm wrong. Thank you, Flo.

2608. Flo. Thank you, Flo, for that. Helpful. Let me try and spin that. So.

2609. Well, then this is the beautiful thing about prayer. It does not have to be perfect.

2610. And it can be broken up. It can be laughed about. Thank you, Flo. That's super helpful

2611. because that changes my sermon altogether. For he gives to his beloved sleep.

2612. Fine. We can go with that. For he gives to his beloved. What's that? That's my goodness.

2613. I'm his. I belong to him. For he gives to his beloved. And then that word beloved is the

2614. key one that I would just stay on. I'd be like, beloved, what does that mean? That I'm actually

2615. loved. That's the key of all of this. Because if we don't get that point, we will build our

2616. own projects. We will stay awake at night because we don't realize that we are loved.

2617. Oh. And then sleep, not sheep. But sleep is very important, isn't it, Christina?

2618. Super important. For he gives to his beloved. Sleep. Rest. When you can sleep at night

2619. sleep, it's because you know that you're not in control. But you can close your eyes because

2620. it's going to be okay. When you don't sleep, when you can't sleep, that's when you're worried

2621. because you think that by you not sleeping and by you grafting and doing something, you'll

2622. get what you need. No, you can rest easy like a weaned child with his mother from last week.

2623. You are content. For he gives to his beloved sleep. So that's one way to pray and you can

2624. laugh about that, how I got the words wrong there. And when you understand that, that you

2625. can rest, there's a couple of things that happen. First of all, you're just filled with

2626. gratitude. You're like, oh God, I'm yours. You give it and I can rest. I'm just thankful.

2627. The second thing is you're gracious because you're like, man, it's not from me. It's not

2628. because of me. That means, wait, that means on the surface, I look better than you and

2629. I've got my life together in a way that you don't. But that's only because he gives me

2630. the gifts of grace right now that I'm receiving. It's not because of me. It's not because of

2631. how good I am. And so I'm praying for the same grace to fill your life. And then you're

2632. also generous with your time, with your efforts, with your love. For he gives to his beloved

2633. sleep. And finally, it's the children part. And we're actually not going to focus too much

2634. on this because Kara already said it. Children are a gift. And it really convicted me of something

2635. which is, oh, I don't know if I pray for my children enough. And I'll tell you, Christina

2636. and I, we pray for our kids every day. But I don't think we pray for them enough.

2637. Because they're growing up in a broken and twisted and crooked world.

2638. And they need prayer. And I don't know if we pray for them enough.

2639. There's a slide that actually has the name of our children that I'm going to put up on the

2640. screen. Roger's going to find it for me. And the idea is actually, can we lift up the

2641. kids in our community and pray for them? Because I'll tell you this. If the kids are

2642. only going to do well because of their parents, then we're in trouble. Our kids need our prayers.

2643. Our kids need our prayers. And so what I want to do is I'm going to invite Paul just to

2644. start us off on a time of reflection. And we're going to pray about different things today.

2645. But we're going to go work our way back and we're going to start with praying for the children

2646. who are a heritage from the Lord.

2647. Hank talked about the next generation. I mean, I hope that him and Tony are not tapping out soon

2648. because I'd love for them to continue sharing their wisdom with us. But that's the heart.

2649. That's the heart. Do we care enough about the next generation that we would pray for them?

2650. And here are just some of the names. I hope, I sincerely, earnestly hope that I've not made

2651. any mistakes and made any spelling mistakes or missed any kids out. But I want to invite us to pray.

2652. There's different groups of children I want to invite you to pray for. If you have kids of your own,

2653. I want you to pray for them. Pray with the person sitting next to you and tell them

2654. your kids' names and pray for them. Second, if you don't have kids, then you will have nieces and

2655. nephews and friends who have kids. Pray for them. After that, there are the kids who are specifically

2656. part of this family here. Pray for them. Pray because their parents often don't know what we're doing.

2657. We're trying to figure out how to not make so many mistakes so we don't screw up our children's lives

2658. in the future by saying the wrong thing, doing the wrong thing, not prioritizing them.

2659. Pray for them. And afterwards, we're going to then spend some time praying for some of the different

2660. things, health, security, and even some of the building projects that we've got. And we just

2661. surrender and go, this building project that I have, whatever it might be, and it might actually

2662. be a building project. Then you surrender that and go, oh God, thank you for partnering with me

2663. and helping me build this. But it's not going to work unless you're the one who's actually building it.

2664. Thank you for letting me take part in choosing some of the furniture and the curtains. But it's you.

2665. It's you. It's always been you. So why don't we do that? Paul's going to sing a song over us. Feel

2666. free to join him as he sings as well, or just listen to his lovely voice and have it be blessed by it.

2667. And then just pray. Children first. Let's spend time. This is where this, just to clarify, this is

2668. where you have to turn to your neighbor. I'm sorry. Love your neighbor. Turn to your neighbor.

2669. You don't have to say much. Just your own name. Just the names of the kids that are on your heart

2670. or the ones here. And just spend some time praying for a few minutes. Is that okay?

  2671. All right.

2672. Now we've finished introducing, maybe let me start us off in a word of prayer.

2673. Jesus, this is a prayer of surrender. This is our prayer of surrender. Whether it's building

2674. projects, whether it's security, whether it's our children. First of all, we give our children

2675. to you. We surrender our children to you. I mean, they were never ours in the first place,

2676. as Kara said. They're from you, for you, and ultimately will return to you.

2677. So as a body, as your body, as your family, we lift up these children to you.

2678. I know there's a lot of people in the room, so maybe we have to keep our voices low, but

2679. why don't we start praying now for the kids that are on the screen and also in our own lives.

  2680. Let us pray.

  2681. So Lord, we surrender.

2682. We give up our dreams, our fears, our ambitions for our kids.

2683. We surrender everything because we know that children are a gift from you, a heritage from

  2684. the Lord.

2685. We pray for baby Theo, for Akachi, for Josiah, for Ellie, for Bella, for Sam, for Ruben, Alicia,

2686. Micah, Roro, and Riri, Ari, EJ, Jacob, and Talia, Estelle, and Angelica, and Theo, and Myla,

2687. and Asher, and Evelyn, and Theoden, Alvin, Aaron, baby Rotho, and any other children in our

2688. care in this family, the children that are yet to be born, the children that are being

  2689. faithfully and wonderfully made.

2690. We lift them up to you.

2691. We surrender any control that we think we have over them.

  2692. You are their strength.

  2693. You are their shield.

  2694. You are their refuge.

2695. And Lord, we need refuge from this.

  2696. From this world.

  2697. From the hurt.

  2698. From the brokenness.

  2699. Would you cover them?

2700. Would you cover them as they enter into school?

2701. Would you cover them as they grow up and see the

2702. brokenness that surrounds, the anxiety that surrounds?

2703. Let them know that they are dearly beloved.

  2704. Dearly beloved.

2705. The next and final part of prayer.

2706. Can we bring those building projects that we have to each other now?

2707. And if there's something that you just need to share with the group,

2708. maybe you don't know that person, maybe you know them super well.

2709. Is there a building project in your life that you need to surrender?

2710. And recognizing that unless the Lord builds it, you will build it in vain.

2711. Is there security that you're after?

2712. That actually, that won't come from you.

2713. That your efforts in rising early, going late to rest, are in vain.

2714. Share with each other what the building projects are.

2715. And then just pray for one another.

2716. Lord, we just want you.

2717. Lord, we just want you.

2718. Lord, take everything else away.

  2719. We just want you.

2720. You are the one who's been there all along.

2721. You are the one who grants us rest.

2722. You are the one who builds our house.

2723. You are the one who keeps us safe.

2724. You are the giver of gifts.

2725. Every good and perfect gift comes from you.

  2726. And so we surrender.

2727. Lord, your will be done.

  2728. Your kingdom come.

  2729. Nothing else will do.

2730. So we surrender our building projects to you.

2731. The things we're trying to build for ourselves.

  2732. The reputation.

  2733. The reputation.

  2734. Accomplishments.

  2735. Our church.

  2736. Our house.

  2737. Our family.

  2738. Our careers.

  2739. Our health.

  2740. Our safety.

2741. I guess it's funny because none of those things are really from us and by us anyway.

2742. They were all from you.

  2743. By you.

  2744. For you.

  2745. Through you.

2746. And we're here just to give it back.

2747. And we seek to experience the freedom that comes of letting go.

  2748. In surrendering.

2749. Knowing that it's not on us.

2750. That we can make mistakes.

2751. That there will be complaints.

2752. And there will be disappointments.

2753. But Lord, that you are sovereign.

2754. That you are building something.

  2755. You are doing something.

2756. And you are making something beautiful.

2757. Out of the broken vessels.

2758. That we have in this room.

  2759. Thank you, Lord.

  2760. Thank you, Lord.

2761. In your name we pray.

  2762. Amen.

  2763. Amen.

  2764. Amen.
