  1. Last week I talked about Exodus 34 where the Israelites mess up.

  2. !

  3. What?

  4. When you make a mistake, that's what God wants to tell you.

  5. And then, of course, I'm thinking about Jesus and I'm thinking about how he acted.

  6. He was gracious and compassionate.

  7. I've been reflecting on just this unhurried Jesus as he walks around doing a million things,

  8. being asked to do a million things, but yet he has this calm spirit.

  9. But then there was one time that I can remember where he really lost it.

  10. When was that time?

  11. Where did Jesus really lose his will?

  12. The temple.

  13. This is Matthew 21.

  14. This is one week before he goes and does the thing that saves mankind once and for all.

  15. And he goes in the temple and then he gets so mad.

  16. What does he see?

  17. Bill, what does he see?

  18. What happens in the temple that causes him to be like this?

  19. The unbelievers weren't allowed to worship.

  20. What did he see in the temple as well?

  21. So that's one thing.

  22. What else did he see in the temple that really?

  23. They are doing business.

  24. You see, it's actually hard to blame them because the thing about the temple at that time is people would travel from really far to worship.

  25. And one of the ways to worship is to sacrifice and to bring an animal, a lamb.

  26. So, of course, if you've traveled really far, okay, I actually, this is one of my things.

  27. When I like to walk around and travel anywhere, this frustrates Christina, I like to travel with my hands in my pockets without a bag.

  28. As few items as possible, I will do.

  29. That's me.

  30. So you can imagine if you've traveled from hundreds and hundreds of miles and there's no high-speed rail and there's no MTR and you hear, oh, actually, you don't need to bring your goat because right outside the temple, you can buy a goat.

  31. And actually, you don't need to do currency exchange beforehand.

  32. There's Alipay and WeChat at the temple door.

  33. And so then you've got these entrepreneurs who are like, hey, we can make a business out of this.

  34. And so that's how the business starts.

  35. And then, of course, it becomes this whole thing.

  36. And then people now go to the temple to do all these things.

  37. And it becomes a different kind of place that is what it should be.

  38. And so Jesus walks in.

  39. This is one week before he ends up getting arrested and on the cross.

  40. And he goes in and he sees us.

  41. And what does he say?

  42. Well, he just completely tears the place apart.

  43. And then what does he say?

  44. Who knows what he says?

  45. Huh?

  46. Well, he eventually will build it back up in three days.

  47. But absolutely, that's something that he says.

  48. What does he say, Johnny?

  49. He says, guys, you've got it all wrong.

  50. Well, this house was supposed to be a house of prayer.

  51. And you've turned it into a den of thieves.

  52. You're businessmen ripping people off.

  53. And I realize the one thing that really gets to Jesus isn't us breaking rules necessarily.

  54. It's when our relationship with God is threatened.

  55. Because the whole point, everything, the end game is about us having a relationship with him.

  56. In his final prayer in John 17, he says, pray that they would have eternal life, which is what?

  57. Is to know you.

  58. And now you're in this temple where people are supposed to know God.

  59. But instead, our minds are completely distracted.

  60. Why are we doing this?

  61. Because I'm just, I want this.

  62. My prayer is that this would be a house of prayer.

  63. Paul prayed earlier in our pre-service meeting that we would be a people of prayer.

  64. I don't know why you walked in here today.

  65. But my hope it isn't to sing songs and to listen to someone speak.

  66. It's that you would meet the living God.

  67. And that you would speak to him.

  68. And that you would hear from him.

  69. That's why we're doing this.

  70. If you're here for the first time, and this is all a little bit strange.

  71. Apologies.

  72. This is a little bit strange.

  73. But this is why we're doing what we're doing.

  74. And today, I hope, we'll have this chance where you can walk out of here going, man, I heard from God.

  75. And I spoke to God.

  76. This will be the last week.

  77. And then we're going to take a pause and we're going to go into a more standard sermon series.

  78. But I think we're going to keep revisiting this again.

  79. Just constantly reminding ourselves of why we're here.

  80. Because I need reminding.

  81. Those mission statements are for me.

  82. Every time I walk in, I'm like, what are we doing?

  83. Just running through the motions?

  84. No, this is us trying to connect with God.

  85. May we be a house of prayer.

  86. So we started a few weeks ago.

  87. We did the Lectio Divina.

  88. I hope some of the, has blessed some of you.

  89. We did the Body Prayer.

  90. And I had a friend tell me that they've been doing that every day.

  91. And it's been really good just to kind of wake yourself up at least.

  92. And then we did the ABC Prayer where we talked authentically.

  93. And so we started saying, hey, just pray what you've got.

  94. If you're angry, if you're frustrated, if you're confused, whatever it is, just pray what you've got.

  95. You don't have to be worried.

  96. Psalm 22, you have this psalm which is like, God, why have you forsaken me?

  97. Why have you turned your back on me?

  98. You can pray that kind of prayer.

  99. You know you can pray that kind of prayer because Jesus quoted that prayer.

  100. And so after that, it's just a simple, whatever you've got.

  101. And then it's a prayer of surrender.

  102. Whatever building projects you have.

  103. You're like, God, I've been trying.

  104. I've been straining, striving, stressing.

  105. Ultimately, if you don't build the house, it'll be me building in vain.

  106. Last week, we came and said, God, sorry.

  107. Sorry, we've messed up.

  108. The art of confession that the modern church is guilty of losing.

  109. Of us saying, sorry, that we've drifted away, that we've made it about ourselves.

  110. Now, finally, we get to the one where we get to talk about asking.

  111. Now, if you are honest with yourself, if I'm honest with myself, most of our prayers are us asking for things.

  112. As soon as I jump into it, God, thank you.

  113. I'm praying for this.

  114. Can you do this?

  115. Can you do that?

  116. Can you do this?

  117. Can you do that?

  118. And actually, it's okay to get there.

  119. It's okay to be there.

  120. And our prayer is that our asks, our requests won't be childish ones, but they will be childlike ones.

  121. So God does want us to ask.

  122. Of course, when you reflect on your own prayer life, and if all you do is ask and you have no surrender,

  123. you have no sorry, you have no bigger picture,

  124. then, of course, that's where the problem is.

  125. But we are allowed to ask.

  126. Paul Miller described, if you look at the Gospels and how Jesus teaches prayer,

  127. if you were to summarize it all in one word, it is to ask.

  128. Matthew 7, ask and it will be given to you.

  129. Seek and you will find.

  130. Knock and the door will be opened up to you.

  131. Whatever you ask to the Father in my name, you will get.

  132. Now, of course, when you ask in his name,

  133. you're invoking your status as a co-heir with Christ,

  134. you're not asking for selfish things,

  135. things that you want.

  136. If you're asking in his name, on his behalf,

  137. you're asking for things that you know that Jesus would want.

  138. That's where the psalmist in Psalm 37 says,

  139. delight in the Lord and he will grant you the desires of your heart,

  140. which sounds great if you take the second statement,

  141. the second half, that he will grant you the desires of your heart.

  142. That would be so good.

  143. But the first half is delight in the Lord.

  144. So prayer really is just this reorienting of our hearts.

  145. It's formation prayer where you're saying,

  146. actually, you're bending your will to his.

  147. That's what you're doing.

  148. You're not giving him requests and commands.

  149. What you're actually doing is, God,

  150. it's what Jesus prayed in the garden.

  151. This is what I want.

  152. I would quite fancy not being hung on a tree.

  153. So if you can remove this suffering, please do.

  154. But not my will, but yours be done.

  155. But we can ask.

  156. Charles Spurgeon said,

  157. actually, if you were to summarize the whole rule of the kingdom,

  158. it is to ask.

  159. And so we reach this final prayer that we're going to go through today,

  160. which is the prayer of supplication to ask.

  161. But before we do that,

  162. I'm actually going to invite my dear wife, Christina, up

  163. because I'm going to ask her to share a little bit about what it is,

  164. what her relationship is like with asking.

  165. So can we give her a gentle round of applause as MJ is sleeping on that?

  166. Don't wake him up.

  167. Just in the spirit of confession,

  168. I actually asked my wife to do this this morning.

  169. So anyway,

  170. she has a fascinating testimony

  171. and a story of her relationship with God.

  172. Because when I talk about asking,

  173. I wonder how you relate to that.

  174. I think some of us have grown up with lots of blessings

  175. and we're a little bit spoiled

  176. and we're a little bit entitled.

  177. So everything about God is,

  178. God, I need this.

  179. I need that.

  180. But some of us,

  181. maybe our relationships with our parents

  182. is influential in this.

  183. because we don't even dare ask him at all.

  184. That actually God is just so far.

  185. We are so sinful.

  186. We don't deserve to ask him anything.

  187. I don't know where you fall in this,

  188. but Christina has a wonderful testimony to share with you

  189. that really encourages me.

  190. Hi.

  191. Gosh.

  192. I hope this doesn't wake him up.

  193. Yeah.

  194. So,

  195. no,

  196. I guess just to give you a bit of context,

  197. I'm the eldest of three girls.

  198. And at a very young age,

  199. I was needed to help around in the house.

  200. My parents were very, very busy.

  201. And at one point,

  202. my dad worked for three years straight

  203. without one day off,

  204. not even in the weekends,

  205. working at multiple locations.

  206. And so my relationship with my parents

  207. was very much like,

  208. I am almost a co-parent.

  209. To look after my sisters,

  210. my younger sisters,

  211. was the thing that I was expected to do.

  212. And so,

  213. when it comes to asking,

  214. I would,

  215. I think initially when I was young,

  216. I would ask my mom or dad,

  217. it's like,

  218. oh,

  219. I want to go out to play.

  220. This was in the summer holidays.

  221. And then they would say,

  222. why do you want to go out to play?

  223. What's the point of that?

  224. As if it was something

  225. that was a terrible thing to do.

  226. Because what was important

  227. was for me to

  228. do the chores

  229. or make sure I do the homework

  230. and academia

  231. and things like that.

  232. And so,

  233. I then realized

  234. that there was a really good thing

  235. to get some things

  236. that I wanted,

  237. which was to ask my younger siblings

  238. to ask my parents.

  239. I was like,

  240. oh,

  241. my mommy,

  242. just ask mom

  243. if we can go out to play

  244. for a little bit

  245. or can we go and have a,

  246. can we have a snack

  247. or go to the ice cream van

  248. to get an ice cream.

  249. Now,

  250. I think growing up,

  251. what happened was

  252. I grew a lot of fear

  253. in asking for anything.

  254. And eventually,

  255. I stopped asking at all.

  256. And,

  257. you know,

  258. as I grew to know God,

  259. and who he was for me,

  260. I had a reverence awe

  261. towards him.

  262. And that wasn't a problem.

  263. I recognized his majesty,

  264. his power.

  265. But it wasn't until

  266. later on,

  267. I realized that in my prayers,

  268. I would not ask him for anything.

  269. Um,

  270. which is really interesting

  271. because

  272. when I'm walking with people,

  273. I was like,

  274. oh,

  275. just ask,

  276. just ask.

  277. Um,

  278. until,

  279. um,

  280. yeah,

  281. I didn't really realize

  282. the extent

  283. of my lack of asking

  284. until I went on a journey

  285. of going through,

  286. um,

  287. an adoption process

  288. because I wanted,

  289. I felt the Lord

  290. place on my heart,

  291. um,

  292. when I was 15,

  293. um,

  294. that I should adopt.

  295. And I was like,

  296. oh,

  297. I really want to adopt.

  298. To my parents,

  299. um,

  300. disagreement and horror.

  301. Like,

  302. if you can have your own,

  303. why would you adopt?

  304. Anyway.

  305. Um,

  306. so,

  307. I started the process

  308. of adoption

  309. just after Ruben

  310. was born,

  311. my first son.

  312. And,

  313. uh,

  314. after that,

  315. uh,

  316. sadly,

  317. that didn't,

  318. um,

  319. happen.

  320. Um,

  321. which I was frustrated about.

  322. I was like,

  323. oh,

  324. why,

  325. why,

  326. you know,

  327. why did that not work out?

  328. Um,

  329. and then I had Alicia,

  330. um,

  331. my second one,

  332. which was great.

  333. Came over here

  334. and then we thought,

  335. okay,

  336. um,

  337. I'll try again.

  338. Let's,

  339. uh,

  340. try the adoption route.

  341. Um,

  342. and sadly,

  343. that didn't happen

  344. the second time around.

  345. And so,

  346. actually,

  347. about two years ago,

  348. um,

  349. I felt the Lord

  350. asking me to

  351. spend time with him.

  352. So,

  353. at the beginning of the,

  354. of each year,

  355. I would always,

  356. always ask God,

  357. it's like,

  358. oh,

  359. is there anything

  360. that you want me to do?

  361. Is there anything

  362. you want me to do?

  363. Um,

  364. now,

  365. doing things

  366. is not my problem.

  367. In fact,

  368. Paul,

  369. um,

  370. told me

  371. to calm down,

  372. to take a chill pill

  373. earlier today.

  374. As I came in

  375. and saw the chairs

  376. went,

  377. um,

  378. lay down,

  379. I was like,

  380. okay,

  381. let's go,

  382. go,

  383. go,

  384. go,

  385. go.

  386. I need to do this

  387. before I feed.

  388. Um,

  389. and he was like,

  390. Chris,

  391. Chris,

  392. take,

  393. take a chill pill.

  394. Okay,

  395. okay,

  396. just tell us what to do

  397. and we'll do it.

  398. Okay,

  399. oh,

  400. yeah,

  401. okay.

  402. Um,

  403. anyway,

  404. so doing is not my problem.

  405. Sitting still is my problem.

  406. Um,

  407. and also asking.

  408. Um,

  409. now,

  410. asking God,

  411. what do you want me to do?

  412. Became,

  413. turned into God

  414. impressing on my heart

  415. a heavy burden

  416. of him saying,

  417. I just want you

  418. to spend time with me.

  419. And I was like,

  420. but God,

  421. I do.

  422. I spend time with you

  423. all the time.

  424. So I would talk to him,

  425. pray with him

  426. in the most random places.

  427. Um,

  428. and,

  429. he would give me visions

  430. and signs

  431. and I love that.

  432. But at the beginning

  433. of,

  434. um,

  435. that year,

  436. he was like,

  437. no,

  438. just want you to spend time

  439. with me.

  440. And I told James that,

  441. I'm like,

  442. oh,

  443. I don't know what

  444. that means.

  445. I mean,

  446. that's,

  447. that's hard.

  448. I felt convicted

  449. to share it

  450. because I knew

  451. what he was asking.

  452. What he was asking

  453. was,

  454. don't do anything.

  455. Don't do anything.

  456. Just be with me.

  457. And so,

  458. I felt so convicted

  459. that I took 40 days

  460. out

  461. of my

  462. usual schedule

  463. to spend time

  464. with God

  465. in prayer.

  466. and I messaged

  467. all the leaders

  468. and said,

  469. oh,

  470. I feel like the Lord

  471. is asking me to do this

  472. and I think it's something

  473. to do with adoption.

  474. And this was in the middle

  475. of our

  476. second adoption process.

  477. And,

  478. um,

  479. what happened was

  480. I began

  481. just spending time

  482. with the Lord

  483. as soon as the kids

  484. went to school.

  485. I would just pray

  486. and it was,

  487. I would read

  488. and before I know it,

  489. the day would

  490. be gone.

  491. um,

  492. and it was about

  493. seven days in.

  494. Um,

  495. God just

  496. overwhelmed me

  497. with this

  498. conviction

  499. that I

  500. did not know

  501. how to be

  502. a child of God.

  503. And I just,

  504. I just remember

  505. I just wept

  506. because I was like,

  507. what do you mean?

  508. I do know,

  509. I know that you are

  510. my father.

  511. I know that you are

  512. my God.

  513. I know

  514. that I am your child,

  515. your beloved child.

  516. And then

  517. he kept saying,

  518. he's like,

  519. no,

  520. you don't.

  521. No,

  522. you don't.

  523. And I was like,

  524. what do you mean?

  525. And

  526. what happened

  527. was,

  528. as I

  529. spent more

  530. and more time

  531. just with God,

  532. the message

  533. was,

  534. you do not

  535. know that you

  536. are my child

  537. even though you

  538. proclaim it,

  539. even though you

  540. share it,

  541. even though you

  542. encourage others

  543. that they are

  544. a child

  545. of God

  546. because you

  547. do not ask.

  548. And I think

  549. on a reflection

  550. I thought,

  551. well,

  552. I always ask.

  553. I was like,

  554. I ask for your will

  555. to be done in my life

  556. every single day.

  557. And

  558. what the spirit

  559. was

  560. reminding me

  561. was like,

  562. no,

  563. that's not asking

  564. me.

  565. that's just

  566. submitting

  567. under my

  568. authority,

  569. which is good.

  570. But your

  571. problem is

  572. that you

  573. don't come

  574. to me

  575. as

  576. a child

  577. who can

  578. just simply

  579. ask.

  580. And so

  581. I then

  582. yeah,

  583. I then

  584. just

  585. stopped

  586. and I

  587. complained

  588. I said,

  589. God,

  590. but I

  591. have,

  592. you know,

  593. dedicated

  594. these 40

  595. days and

  596. all you're

  597. telling me

  598. is that I

  599. don't know

  600. that I

  601. am your

  602. child.

  603. And

  604. that's it.

  605. So I

  606. was quite

  607. frustrated.

  608. But then

  609. what he

  610. kept telling

  611. me was

  612. true.

  613. And I

  614. looked back

  615. and I

  616. was like,

  617. oh yeah,

  618. I can't.

  619. I don't,

  620. I find it

  621. so difficult

  622. to ask.

  623. In fact,

  624. if you

  625. ask those

  626. who know

  627. me a

  628. little

  629. better,

  630. I find

  631. it very

  632. ask to

  633. ask for

  634. help in

  635. any way.

  636. It takes

  637. a lot

  638. for me to

  639. get to a

  640. point where

  641. I should

  642. just ask.

  643. And what

  644. happened after

  645. that was

  646. when I

  647. went to

  648. James after

  649. the 40

  650. days,

  651. actually before

  652. I went to

  653. James,

  654. God put

  655. this desire

  656. on my

  657. heart to

  658. have more

  659. children.

  660. And I

  661. went to

  662. God and

  663. said,

  664. Lord,

  665. you know

  666. my desire

  667. is to

  668. have more

  669. children,

  670. hence why

  671. I went

  672. through the

  673. adoption

  674. process.

  675. Now I'm

  676. not going

  677. to have

  678. more

  679. children

  680. with

  681. James

  682. because

  683. James

  684. has

  685. said,

  686. no,

  687. he does

  688. not want

  689. to need

  690. more

  691. children.

  692. And you

  693. know that

  694. story.

  695. He's like,

  696. I'm done.

  697. I feel

  698. complete.

  699. I don't

  700. need any

  701. more

  702. tiredness

  703. in my

  704. life.

  705. And so

  706. anyway,

  707. you know

  708. my desire,

  709. God.

  710. So I

  711. just bowed

  712. on my

  713. knees and

  714. actually

  715. asked.

  716. And it

  717. wasn't just

  718. asking,

  719. oh God,

  720. can I

  721. have this?

  722. It was

  723. bowing

  724. before him

  725. with

  726. confidence

  727. that not

  728. only do

  729. I know

  730. who he

  731. is,

  732. that I

  733. know who

  734. I am

  735. because of

  736. him and

  737. because he

  738. calls me

  739. beloved.

  740. And I

  741. can confidently

  742. come to

  743. him as

  744. his child

  745. and ask.

  746. And so

  747. you know

  748. the

  749. passage

  750. seek and

  751. you will

  752. find,

  753. knock and

  754. the door

  755. will be

  756. open and

  757. ask and

  758. it shall

  759. be given

  760. to you

  761. was

  762. resonating

  763. in me.

  764. And of

  765. course the

  766. other

  767. part was

  768. to ask

  769. in confidence

  770. to know

  771. who he

  772. is and

  773. then in

  774. accordance to

  775. knowing who

  776. he is,

  777. then also

  778. in accordance

  779. to his

  780. will,

  781. you will

  782. receive.

  783. and then

  784. afterwards

  785. when James

  786. said,

  787. oh so what

  788. did you do

  789. in those

  790. 40 days?

  791. I was like,

  792. yeah,

  793. God was

  794. teaching me

  795. about how

  796. I should be

  797. a child

  798. of God.

  799. And that

  800. was it.

  801. I didn't

  802. tell him

  803. what I

  804. asked for.

  805. I didn't

  806. tell him

  807. the challenge

  808. of what

  809. I asked

  810. for.

  811. So yeah.

  812. And so

  813. God's a

  814. troll and

  815. so is my

  816. wife.

  817. Now just

  818. to reiterate,

  819. you couldn't

  820. find anyone

  821. more against

  822. having children

  823. than me.

  824. Of course,

  825. I love them,

  826. they're in

  827. there.

  828. But I was

  829. like,

  830. I'm so done.

  831. I'm so done

  832. with this.

  833. John knows,

  834. I'm so done

  835. with this.

  836. And so

  837. I was so

  838. happy.

  839. My tank

  840. was so

  841. full.

  842. And we

  843. hadn't

  844. fought over

  845. this issue,

  846. but this

  847. was the

  848. sensitive

  849. point of

  850. contention

  851. that husbands

  852. and wives

  853. find themselves

  854. in.

  855. So then

  856. unbeknownst

  857. to me,

  858. a month

  859. later,

  860. I'm in

  861. Singapore

  862. for a

  863. conference.

  864. And I,

  865. okay,

  866. this is a

  867. bit,

  868. okay,

  869. the place

  870. this happens

  871. is a little

  872. bit weird,

  873. but you

  874. should have

  875. to bear

  876. with me.

  877. So we

  878. were in

  879. the night

  880. safari.

  881. Me and

  882. my colleagues

  883. and we

  884. were just

  885. kind of

  886. sitting on

  887. those,

  888. who's been

  889. to the

  890. night

  891. safari in

  892. Singapore?

  893. Where you're

  894. kind of on

  895. that little

  896. tram,

  897. that cart

  898. thing,

  899. and you're

  900. just walking

  901. and we go

  902. past and we

  903. see the

  904. flamingos.

  905. And in

  906. that moment,

  907. the most

  908. random

  909. thought,

  910. it was,

  911. James,

  912. if you had

  913. a third,

  914. you'd be

  915. okay.

  916. Just the

  917. most random

  918. thought.

  919. I don't know

  920. why it was

  921. the flamingos.

  922. I've committed

  923. to never

  924. seeing them

  925. ever again.

  926. And it

  927. was,

  928. James,

  929. if you had

  930. a third,

  931. you'd be

  932. okay.

  933. I said,

  934. no,

  935. I won't

  936. be okay.

  937. You know

  938. I won't

  939. be okay,

  940. God.

  941. And then

  942. it was just,

  943. of course,

  944. we're looking

  945. at other

  946. animals and

  947. it just

  948. starts swirling

  949. in my head.

  950. What would

  951. it look like

  952. to have a

  953. third?

  954. That would

  955. be so crazy.

  956. I mean,

  957. I'm getting

  958. pretty old.

  959. This is not,

  960. let's leave it.

  961. And anyway,

  962. our two kids

  963. are already

  964. very happy

  965. and also

  966. getting older

  967. as well,

  968. so the gap

  969. would be

  970. pretty big.

  971. And then

  972. I turned,

  973. and actually,

  974. one thing I've

  975. always said is,

  976. actually,

  977. my puzzle

  978. is complete.

  979. I am so happy

  980. in every way.

  981. I'm not needing

  982. anything.

  983. And so I turned

  984. to my colleague

  985. who I'd just

  986. met,

  987. who'd come

  988. from the US,

  989. and I said,

  990. hey,

  991. so how many

  992. kids do you

  993. have?

  994. He said,

  995. we have

  996. three.

  997. But the

  998. third one

  999. was a surprise

  1000. and it was a

  1001. gift that we

  1002. didn't know

  1003. that we were

  1004. going to

  1005. receive.

  1006. And it was

  1007. a medically

  1008. impossible

  1009. gift.

  1010. He'd done

  1011. something to

  1012. make sure

  1013. that that

  1014. wouldn't

  1015. happen,

  1016. and it

  1017. happened.

  1018. Right?

  1019. He went

  1020. back to

  1021. that doctor

  1022. and the

  1023. doctor had

  1024. already

  1025. tucked a lot

  1026. close down.

  1027. But he

  1028. said this

  1029. one thing.

  1030. He said,

  1031. oh,

  1032. but it

  1033. was a

  1034. missing

  1035. piece of

  1036. the puzzle

  1037. I never

  1038. knew I

  1039. needed.

  1040. I was

  1041. like,

  1042. whew,

  1043. that's a

  1044. good line.

  1045. And then I

  1046. said,

  1047. how old

  1048. were your

  1049. kids when

  1050. the surprise

  1051. happened?

  1052. He was

  1053. like,

  1054. 11 and

  1055. 7.

  1056. I was

  1057. like,

  1058. oh,

  1059. shoot,

  1060. my kids

  1061. are 11

  1062. and 7.

  1063. And none

  1064. of,

  1065. she didn't

  1066. tell me

  1067. any of

  1068. this.

  1069. And I

  1070. was having

  1071. my own

  1072. little moment

  1073. freaking

  1074. out.

  1075. But anyway,

  1076. as the

  1077. good,

  1078. honest

  1079. husband,

  1080. after my

  1081. conference,

  1082. I went

  1083. back home,

  1084. I said,

  1085. hey,

  1086. let's talk

  1087. about

  1088. something.

  1089. I just

  1090. had the

  1091. most weird

  1092. experience

  1093. of encounter

  1094. in the

  1095. night safari

  1096. with the

  1097. flamingos.

  1098. And I

  1099. think God's

  1100. telling me

  1101. that I

  1102. need to

  1103. surrender

  1104. my fear

  1105. and

  1106. control

  1107. of having

  1108. another

  1109. kid.

  1110. And can

  1111. you just

  1112. imagine from

  1113. her

  1114. perspective,

  1115. the wrestling

  1116. that she

  1117. went on

  1118. on these

  1119. 40 days,

  1120. she just

  1121. broke down

  1122. into his.

  1123. And I

  1124. was like,

  1125. yeah,

  1126. I'm

  1127. crying too.

  1128. Oh,

  1129. he's

  1130. awake.

  1131. And then,

  1132. so then it

  1133. was a

  1134. wrestling

  1135. match.

  1136. It was

  1137. like,

  1138. okay,

  1139. look,

  1140. we'll

  1141. try,

  1142. but we

  1143. can't

  1144. try for

  1145. long.

  1146. Just a

  1147. little try,

  1148. just a

  1149. little knock,

  1150. and then

  1151. we'll

  1152. run at

  1153. if the

  1154. door opens.

  1155. And I

  1156. was like,

  1157. hey,

  1158. look,

  1159. we're just

  1160. going to

  1161. try for

  1162. a very

  1163. short period.

  1164. She's

  1165. like,

  1166. oh,

  1167. but that's

  1168. too short

  1169. a period.

  1170. Then I'm

  1171. like,

  1172. well,

  1173. if your

  1174. God wants

  1175. this to

  1176. happen,

  1177. then he

  1178. will make

  1179. it happen.

  1180. And

  1181. anyway,

  1182. of course,

  1183. it happened

  1184. fairly quickly.

  1185. And then I

  1186. was just

  1187. like,

  1188. man,

  1189. God loves

  1190. Christina so

  1191. much.

  1192. And he

  1193. really doesn't

  1194. like me

  1195. very much.

  1196. And just

  1197. to watch

  1198. that journey

  1199. where I

  1200. know that

  1201. she doesn't

  1202. like asking

  1203. for help.

  1204. She doesn't

  1205. like asking

  1206. for anything.

  1207. But to

  1208. watch her

  1209. go through

  1210. this journey

  1211. and learn

  1212. what asking

  1213. means was

  1214. inspiring to

  1215. me.

  1216. And of

  1217. course,

  1218. we're

  1219. blessed with

  1220. this cute

  1221. little

  1222. baldy right

  1223. here.

  1224. But I'll

  1225. tell you

  1226. this,

  1227. and I want

  1228. to be

  1229. sensitive

  1230. because,

  1231. actually,

  1232. I know that

  1233. there are

  1234. people also

  1235. in the room

  1236. who have

  1237. asked for

  1238. children.

  1239. Actually,

  1240. you've asked

  1241. for different

  1242. things over

  1243. the years,

  1244. and you've

  1245. not got

  1246. them yet.

  1247. And I

  1248. tell this

  1249. story not

  1250. just to

  1251. say,

  1252. oh,

  1253. man,

  1254. this is,

  1255. God is so

  1256. good,

  1257. and he

  1258. blessed

  1259. with this.

  1260. It's,

  1261. what I do

  1262. know is

  1263. that,

  1264. actually,

  1265. God is

  1266. good.

  1267. He does

  1268. know what

  1269. you want.

  1270. But,

  1271. yes,

  1272. there are

  1273. some times

  1274. where you

  1275. don't get

  1276. what it

  1277. is.

  1278. And,

  1279. actually,

  1280. I'm here

  1281. to tell you,

  1282. I'm not

  1283. here to tell

  1284. you why,

  1285. like,

  1286. why.

  1287. I don't

  1288. know why.

  1289. I don't

  1290. know.

  1291. And,

  1292. as a

  1293. pastor,

  1294. I'm

  1295. learning over

  1296. and over

  1297. again.

  1298. Why,

  1299. God,

  1300. won't you

  1301. answer the

  1302. prayers that

  1303. we've had

  1304. for all

  1305. these years?

  1306. And,

  1307. maybe,

  1308. a final

  1309. thing I

  1310. wanted

  1311. Christina

  1312. to share

  1313. in all

  1314. this is,

  1315. actually,

  1316. this is

  1317. one prayer,

  1318. but you

  1319. have tons

  1320. of prayers

  1321. that you've

  1322. not had

  1323. answered.

  1324. There are

  1325. long-standing

  1326. prayers right

  1327. now about

  1328. your family

  1329. that are

  1330. still not

  1331. answered.

  1332. What's

  1333. your process

  1334. when it

  1335. comes to

  1336. unanswered

  1337. prayer?

  1338. I think,

  1339. first of

  1340. all,

  1341. is admitting

  1342. that I'm

  1343. angry and

  1344. frustrated.

  1345. But,

  1346. going to

  1347. him with

  1348. that,

  1349. just as

  1350. raw as

  1351. it can

  1352. be,

  1353. and being

  1354. honest with

  1355. God,

  1356. and being

  1357. reminded that

  1358. he is

  1359. faithful,

  1360. being reminded

  1361. that he is

  1362. good,

  1363. and being

  1364. reminded that

  1365. it's not

  1366. about the

  1367. things in

  1368. this world.

  1369. God,

  1370. this whole

  1371. time that

  1372. we have

  1373. on earth

  1374. is just

  1375. God chasing

  1376. us,

  1377. and us

  1378. alone,

  1379. that he

  1380. wants us

  1381. to really,

  1382. really know

  1383. that we are

  1384. his child,

  1385. his child,

  1386. his precious,

  1387. beloved child,

  1388. and there's

  1389. nothing that we

  1390. can do,

  1391. wrong or

  1392. right,

  1393. that would

  1394. make him

  1395. love us

  1396. any more

  1397. or less.

  1398. And just

  1399. reminding of

  1400. that truth

  1401. then puts

  1402. everything into

  1403. perspective,

  1404. that even

  1405. if he

  1406. gave me

  1407. what I

  1408. wanted,

  1409. that that

  1410. isn't what

  1411. he wants

  1412. from us,

  1413. that we

  1414. just go

  1415. and ask,

  1416. but we

  1417. go and

  1418. ask in

  1419. acknowledgement

  1420. of who

  1421. we are,

  1422. that we

  1423. are beloved,

  1424. and that's

  1425. all that

  1426. matters,

  1427. that's

  1428. what God

  1429. cares about

  1430. most,

  1431. not to

  1432. just

  1433. fulfill

  1434. our

  1435. desires,

  1436. but for

  1437. us to

  1438. desire

  1439. him as

  1440. our

  1441. father.

  1442. Thank you.

  1443. Can we

  1444. give her a

  1445. round of

  1446. applause?

  1447. If you

  1448. join me in

  1449. just praying

  1450. these words

  1451. with me,

  1452. Psalm

  1453. 121.

  1454. I lift

  1455. up my

  1456. eyes to

  1457. the hills,

  1458. from where

  1459. does my

  1460. help come

  1461. from?

  1462. My help

  1463. comes from

  1464. the Lord,

  1465. who made

  1466. heaven and

  1467. earth.

  1468. He will

  1469. not let

  1470. your foot

  1471. be moved.

  1472. He who

  1473. keeps you

  1474. will not

  1475. slumber.

  1476. Behold,

  1477. he who

  1478. keeps Israel

  1479. will neither

  1480. slumber nor

  1481. sleep.

  1482. The Lord

  1483. is your

  1484. keeper.

  1485. The Lord

  1486. is your

  1487. shade on

  1488. your right

  1489. hand.

  1490. The sun

  1491. shall not

  1492. strike you

  1493. by day

  1494. nor the

  1495. moon

  1496. by night.

  1497. The Lord

  1498. will keep

  1499. you from

  1500. all evil.

  1501. He will

  1502. keep your

  1503. life.

  1504. the Lord

  1505. will keep

  1506. your going

  1507. out and

  1508. your coming

  1509. in from

  1510. this time

  1511. forth and

  1512. forevermore.

  1513. These are

  1514. the words

  1515. of the

  1516. psalmist in

  1517. Psalm

  1518. 121.

  1519. This is our

  1520. final song of

  1521. ascent in

  1522. this series.

  1523. This is a

  1524. very well-known

  1525. one.

  1526. In fact,

  1527. actually,

  1528. if you talk

  1529. about the

  1530. well-known

  1531. psalms that

  1532. people use

  1533. to memorize,

  1534. it's probably

  1535. Psalm 23,

  1536. Psalm 46,

  1537. and then

  1538. Psalm 121.

  1539. You've heard

  1540. this before.

  1541. I lift up

  1542. my eyes to

  1543. the hills.

  1544. From where

  1545. does my

  1546. help come

  1547. from?

  1548. My help

  1549. comes from

  1550. the Lord

  1551. who made

  1552. heaven and

  1553. earth.

  1554. Some people

  1555. call this

  1556. Psalm the

  1557. Psalm of

  1558. the sojourner,

  1559. the Psalm of

  1560. the person

  1561. who just

  1562. journeys in

  1563. life.

  1564. Life is

  1565. hard, and

  1566. there's an

  1567. anxiety that

  1568. comes of

  1569. this as

  1570. they're

  1571. walking and

  1572. they're

  1573. seeing the

  1574. hills.

  1575. Now, just

  1576. a reminder,

  1577. walking in

  1578. the hills

  1579. those days

  1580. was not like

  1581. walking in

  1582. Dragon's Back

  1583. for hiking or

  1584. Lion Rock.

  1585. here in

  1586. Hong Kong,

  1587. when you're

  1588. walking the

  1589. hills back

  1590. in those

  1591. days, there

  1592. was danger.

  1593. There were

  1594. thieves.

  1595. That's where

  1596. even the

  1597. parable of

  1598. the Good

  1599. Samaritan

  1600. comes, because

  1601. someone is

  1602. walking through

  1603. and ends

  1604. up getting

  1605. jumped.

  1606. So I

  1607. lift my

  1608. eyes up to

  1609. the hills.

  1610. Where does

  1611. my help

  1612. come from?

  1613. God, I

  1614. do not

  1615. go to

  1616. God, this

  1617. journey, this

  1618. journey is

  1619. hard, it's

  1620. long, I

  1621. can't even

  1622. see around

  1623. the corners,

  1624. I don't even

  1625. know if

  1626. there's something

  1627. that's going

  1628. to be out

  1629. there for

  1630. me.

  1631. And the

  1632. psalmist is

  1633. reminding

  1634. himself, I

  1635. lift up my

  1636. eyes to the

  1637. hills, from

  1638. where does my

  1639. help come

  1640. from?

  1641. And then he

  1642. answers

  1643. himself, my

  1644. help comes

  1645. from the

  1646. Lord, who

  1647. made heaven

  1648. and earth.

  1649. I'll tell you

  1650. what that

  1651. means, that

  1652. means there

  1653. is no hill I

  1654. need to be

  1655. afraid of.

  1656. This guy

  1657. made heaven

  1658. and earth, I

  1659. don't have to

  1660. be afraid of

  1661. storms because

  1662. he can stop

  1663. the storm just

  1664. like that.

  1665. It's that

  1666. person.

  1667. Do you have

  1668. anxiety as

  1669. you walk this

  1670. life and this

  1671. journey that

  1672. you're on?

  1673. You're like,

  1674. where is my

  1675. help going to

  1676. come from?

  1677. Then this is

  1678. the prayer that

  1679. you remind

  1680. yourself with,

  1681. I lift up my

  1682. eyes to the

  1683. hills, from

  1684. where does my

  1685. help come from?

  1686. My help

  1687. comes from the

  1688. Lord, who

  1689. made heaven

  1690. and earth

  1691. and he

  1692. will not let

  1693. my foot be

  1694. moved.

  1695. Ken and I

  1696. will know this

  1697. through our

  1698. injury that we

  1699. had in the

  1700. early days when

  1701. we had the

  1702. crutches.

  1703. Actually, there

  1704. was danger,

  1705. there was

  1706. slipping,

  1707. especially in

  1708. the rainy

  1709. season,

  1710. right?

  1711. But there's

  1712. someone who

  1713. actually won't

  1714. let me slip,

  1715. who won't let

  1716. me fall and

  1717. he won't slumber

  1718. nor sleep.

  1719. And one of the

  1720. things the

  1721. doctors told us

  1722. was when you

  1723. sleep in the

  1724. early days,

  1725. you have to

  1726. lift your

  1727. foot.

  1728. Right up.

  1729. You have to

  1730. lift it up

  1731. because all

  1732. the blood

  1733. cannot clot

  1734. up in the

  1735. leg area.

  1736. So I put a

  1737. couple pillows

  1738. under my

  1739. feet as I

  1740. sleep.

  1741. But of

  1742. course, the

  1743. moment I

  1744. fall asleep,

  1745. I'm a

  1746. martial arts

  1747. expert during

  1748. my sleeping

  1749. time.

  1750. So by the

  1751. time I'm

  1752. done, the

  1753. cushion's

  1754. completely

  1755. somewhere else.

  1756. Well, actually

  1757. no, my

  1758. wife's kicked

  1759. me out of

  1760. bed by then.

  1761. So I'm in

  1762. the other

  1763. room anyway.

  1764. But the

  1765. one who

  1766. keeps my

  1767. foot, the

  1768. one who

  1769. looks after

  1770. me, does

  1771. not slumber

  1772. nor sleep.

  1773. It's 24-7.

  1774. He's

  1775. always there.

  1776. And the

  1777. Lord is your

  1778. keeper.

  1779. He is your

  1780. shade on your

  1781. right hand.

  1782. So the

  1783. sun won't

  1784. strike you,

  1785. nor the

  1786. moon by

  1787. night.

  1788. Do you

  1789. believe that?

  1790. That there

  1791. is a God

  1792. who is

  1793. with you

  1794. every step

  1795. of the way

  1796. that is

  1797. sovereign over

  1798. everything that

  1799. you're going

  1800. through, even

  1801. the pain, even

  1802. the uncertainty,

  1803. even if you

  1804. don't know what

  1805. is just around

  1806. the corner on

  1807. that hill, he

  1808. is there with

  1809. you.

  1810. Now, there's

  1811. an equivalent

  1812. prayer in the

  1813. New Testament

  1814. that is very

  1815. quite similar.

  1816. It's probably

  1817. one of the

  1818. most well-known

  1819. passages in the

  1820. New Testament, and

  1821. that's Philippians

    Philippians 4:4–7

  1822. 4, verse 4-7.

  1823. And it is,

  1824. Do not be

  1825. anxious about

  1826. anything, but

  1827. in everything, by

  1828. prayer and

  1829. supplication, with

  1830. thanksgiving, let

  1831. your requests be

  1832. made known to

  1833. God.

  1834. Do not be

  1835. anxious about

  1836. anything, but in

  1837. prayer and

  1838. supplication,

  1839. supplication means

  1840. to ask for

  1841. things, earnestly,

  1842. sincerely,

  1843. persistently.

  1844. John Calvin

  1845. says, keep

  1846. asking, two

  1847. times, three

  1848. times, a

  1849. hundred times.

  1850. That is the

  1851. nature of

  1852. prayer, to

  1853. keep going, just

  1854. like the

  1855. persistent widow

  1856. that Jesus

  1857. talks about, just

  1858. keep asking.

  1859. Now, yes, some

  1860. of those prayers

  1861. you don't think

  1862. get answered.

  1863. And I don't

  1864. want to say

  1865. this in a

  1866. cliche, cheap

  1867. kind of way, but

  1868. I can tell you

  1869. by my own

  1870. testimony that

  1871. actually some

  1872. of the Lord's

  1873. greatest refusals

  1874. of my prayer

  1875. actually ended up

  1876. being the things

  1877. that I really

  1878. needed.

  1879. God doesn't

  1880. give you what

  1881. you want, he

  1882. gives you what

  1883. you need and

  1884. what you need

  1885. the most is

  1886. to be with

  1887. him.

  1888. And I don't

  1889. say this

  1890. cheaply.

  1891. I say this as

  1892. someone who has

  1893. lost loved

  1894. ones.

  1895. I say this as

  1896. someone who

  1897. has seen

  1898. their children

  1899. in ICU.

  1900. And the Lord

  1901. doesn't seem to

  1902. be quick to

  1903. answer.

  1904. So I know, and

  1905. I don't say

  1906. this without a

  1907. sensitivity of

  1908. that, but what

  1909. I do, so I

  1910. don't know why

  1911. sometimes he

  1912. doesn't answer,

  1913. but I do know

  1914. who he is.

  1915. And he is

  1916. the one that

  1917. keeps us, who

  1918. does not

  1919. slumber nor

  1920. sleep.

  1921. And so we

  1922. go to him and

  1923. we pray and

  1924. we ask, mostly

  1925. saying that we

  1926. trust you, God,

  1927. that you are

  1928. sovereign over

  1929. us.

  1930. That whether

  1931. you are my

  1932. keeper, even in

  1933. my going out and

  1934. in my coming

  1935. in, that you

  1936. are just always

  1937. with us.

  1938. So then the

  1939. question becomes

  1940. how do we

  1941. pray or what

  1942. do we pray

  1943. for?

  1944. There's two

  1945. kinds of prayer

  1946. of supplication

  1947. that I want to

  1948. briefly talk about

  1949. and one is

  1950. petition.

  1951. Petition is

  1952. basically you

  1953. going to God

  1954. and asking for

  1955. things for you.

  1956. Okay, so that

  1957. could be, God, I've

  1958. just got all this

  1959. anxiety, I've got

  1960. all this pain, I've

  1961. got all this hurt,

1962. can you free me of

  1963. these things?

  1964. I want to be a

  1965. better person, but

  1966. I know I can't

  1967. get there without

  1968. you.

  1969. It's, God, I

  1970. really need a

  1971. parking space

  1972. right now because

  1973. I'm running late

  1974. and I think, God,

  1975. would you give me

  1976. a parking space?

  1977. God, I really,

  1978. that thing I could

  1979. really do with that

  1980. project coming

  1981. through.

  1982. Now, of course,

  1983. we've got to

  1984. search our hearts

  1985. and go, is that

1986. for me or is that

  1987. for his glory?

  1988. But we're allowed

  1989. to ask these

  1990. questions to him

  1991. and that is

  1992. petition.

  1993. And then there

  1994. is intercession,

  1995. which is, petition

  1996. is you praying for

  1997. yourself, intercessory

  1998. prayer is you praying

  1999. for others.

  2000. You're praying for

  2001. things that are

  2002. beyond yourself.

  2003. And we could do

  2004. with both of

  2005. those prayers.

  2006. We want to pray

  2007. those kind of

  2008. prayers and I

  2009. want to give us

  2010. some time now to

  2011. pray for those

  2012. kinds of things

  2013. because even in

  2014. the Lord's prayer,

  2015. it's, God, would

  2016. you give me this?

  2017. Would you forgive

  2018. me of this?

  2019. Would you deliver

  2020. me from evil?

  2021. So even baked

  2022. into the Lord's

  2023. prayer are basically

  2024. questions asking God

  2025. for something.

2026. And so what do we

  2027. pray for?

  2028. whether it's

  2029. petition or whether

  2030. it's intercession.

  2031. Today, given that

  2032. we're all gathered

  2033. here, I would love

2034. for us to spend a

  2035. bit of time in

  2036. intercession to

  2037. pray.

  2038. I said this last

  2039. time and I'll

  2040. confess this again.

  2041. I watched the

  2042. presidential debate

  2043. with arms crossed,

2044. with a smirk on my

  2045. face and somehow

2046. if you looked at me

  2047. you'd be like, oh,

  2048. you enjoy watching

  2049. the world burn

  2050. and on fire.

  2051. And then the Lord

  2052. convicted me.

  2053. Have you ever

  2054. prayed for those

  2055. two candidates?

  2056. Have you ever

  2057. prayed for your

  2058. leaders?

  2059. Have you ever

  2060. prayed for your

  2061. boss?

  2062. Paul tells Timothy,

  2063. hey, you should

  2064. pray for the

  2065. leaders of this

  2066. world.

  2067. Have we spent

  2068. time doing that?

  2069. Have you prayed

  2070. for your enemies?

  2071. Jesus says, pray

  2072. for those who

  2073. persecute you.

  2074. We can pray for

  2075. ourselves, we can

  2076. pray for our

  2077. loved ones, we

  2078. can pray for our

  2079. friends, especially

  2080. if they're in

  2081. dire need of

  2082. something.

  2083. But do we pray

  2084. for the things

  2085. that are out

  2086. there that are

  2087. not so fun to

  2088. pray for?

  2089. So if you would

  2090. allow me, if you

  2091. would allow us,

  2092. let's spend some

  2093. time to pray for

  2094. those things.

  2095. Now I won't get

  2096. you all to turn

  2097. and pray with

  2098. each other.

  2099. Today we're

  2100. going to just

  2101. pray prayers of

  2102. supplication of

  2103. intercession to

  2104. the things that

  2105. actually are out

  2106. there that we as

  2107. believers need to

  2108. pray for.

  2109. And so the first

  2110. one is actually

  2111. to pray for

  2112. our enemies.

  2113. Now whilst I

  2114. speak and I

  2115. turn to the

  2116. verse just to

  2117. quote it to you

  2118. correctly, you can

  2119. think about enemies

  2120. right now.

  2121. Or you can think

  2122. about the people who

  2123. really frustrate you

  2124. right now.

2125. I have some in my

2126. head even as I am

  2127. scrolling through the

  2128. scriptures.

  2129. People that really

  2130. annoy you.

  2131. People who are

  2132. actually out to get

  2133. you.

  2134. Jesus said, you

  2135. have heard that it

  2136. was said, you

  2137. shall love your

  2138. neighbor and hate

  2139. your enemy.

  2140. But I say to

  2141. you, love your

  2142. enemies and pray

  2143. for those who

  2144. persecute you.

  2145. Actually, I'm not

  2146. doing this myself.

  2147. There's another

  2148. pastor who actually

  2149. likes to pray in

  2150. this order.

  2151. It starts with

  2152. enemies and then

  2153. it goes into

  2154. leaders and then

  2155. it goes into

  2156. sinners and finally

  2157. it's your loved

  2158. ones and your

  2159. friends.

  2160. So let's pray.

  2161. If you would

  2162. join me now,

  2163. let's spend a few

  2164. moments to pray

  2165. for your enemies.

  2166. Pray for those

  2167. who have hurt you.

  2168. Pray for those

  2169. who are threatening

  2170. you.

  2171. Pray for those

  2172. who frustrate you.

  2173. Let us spend

  2174. some time now and

  2175. pray for those who

  2176. persecute us.

  2177. Lord, we pray for

  2178. those who have

  2179. hurt us, who are

  2180. hurting us, those

  2181. who we perceive as

  2182. enemies, those who

  2183. frustrate us.

  2184. Lord, we muster up

  2185. every piece of

  2186. courage that we

  2187. have inside us and

  2188. we pray that you

  2189. would bless them,

  2190. that you would

  2191. keep them safe,

  2192. that they would

  2193. know the warmth

  2194. of your embrace,

  2195. that any hurt and

  2196. brokenness that is

  2197. within them, that

  2198. causes hurt and

  2199. brokenness in others

  2200. and other people,

  2201. we pray that you

  2202. would heal and you

  2203. would restore them.

  2204. And we find the

  2205. courage to pray that

  2206. prayer from the

  2207. cross.

  2208. As Jesus, when you

  2209. asked God to

  2210. forgive them

  2211. because they know

  2212. not what they do,

  2213. remembering that we

  2214. once were enemies,

  2215. that we didn't know

  2216. what we would do.

  2217. And Lord, can you

  2218. soften our hearts

  2219. towards them?

  2220. Can you be our

  2221. protector, but can you

  2222. also be theirs?

  2223. Can you be their

  2224. comforter, just as you

  2225. are our comforter?

2226. Help us to see them

  2227. as you see them.

  2228. Help us to forgive

  2229. them.

  2230. Help us to be

  2231. gracious and

  2232. compassionate and

  2233. slow to anger towards

  2234. them.

  2235. moment.

2236. and then Paul tells Timothy

2237. first of all then I urge that supplications

  2238. prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings

2239. be made for all people

  2240. for kings and all

2241. who are in high positions

2242. that we may lead a peaceful

2243. and quiet life, godly and dignified

  2244. in every way

2245. let's spend a few moments now and pray for the leaders

  2246. in your circle

  2247. in this city

2248. let's pray for John Lee

2249. let's pray for President Xi

2250. let's pray for Donald Trump

2251. let's pray for Kamala Harris

2252. let's pray for the leaders of this world

2253. so Lord we lift up the leaders of this world to you

2254. we know that mankind is made in your image

2255. that we know that we have chosen our own way

2256. that we all fall short of your glory

2257. Lord there is no system that is perfect

2258. because there are no people that are perfect

2259. we know that every system is broken

  2260. because people are broken

2261. Lord we appeal to you

  2262. God almighty

2263. still sovereign and on your throne

2264. the kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall

2265. that you remain unchanged above them all

2266. would you have your way

2267. even what the enemy means for evil

2268. would you turn for good

2269. Lord we pray for this world to repent and turn

  2270. and choose you again

2271. we know that starts with us repenting

2272. and turning to you again

2273. and turning to you again

2274. and turning to you again

2275. Lord we pray for this world to repent and turn to you again

2276. and turn to you again

2277. and turn to you again

2278. Lord we pray without any sense of pride

  2279. or judgment

  2280. as you said

  2281. who is to condemn

2282. Christ Jesus is the one who died

2283. more than that who was raised

2284. who is at the right hand of God

2285. who indeed is interceding for us

2286. who shall separate us from the love of Christ

2287. we pray for us from the love of God

2288. we pray for us from the love of Christ Jesus our Lord

2289. as we come to an end here

2290. I want to pass the time over to Johnny

2291. to lead us in communion

2292. let us stay in this space of

  2293. intercession

  2294. reflection

2295. and come to God together as

  2296. one family

  2297. moment

  2298. moment

  2299. moment

  2300. moment

  2301. moment
