  1. Thanks.

  2. Such amazing stories about faith heroes all throughout the Bible.

  3. It wonders me, what did they touch on which caused them to do such amazing things?

  4. Today I'm going to be talking about working for the Lord.

  5. Before I begin, I want us to go into two things.

  6. The first is that God died for you.

  7. It's something that's told to us again and again,

  8. especially if we've grown up in church families or communities.

  9. But I think because we are told it again and again,

  10. it begins to lose its meaning.

  11. I mean, just think, the God that was in heaven came to earth,

  12. experienced all sorts of temptation,

  13. and died so that you could know him.

  14. For some...

  15. Oh, he said that, sorry.

  16. I want you to imagine this is the first time you have ever heard

  17. that the God of the world wants a personal relationship with you.

  18. And he knows everything about you.

  19. It should invoke something in us that makes us want to run for him,

  20. not so we can earn his love, he offers it freely,

  21. but instead to learn to experience all of God as our will aligns with his.

  22. I think the people mentioned in this passage we have just been reading knew this,

  23. and it gave them a zeal,

  24. a love so great that they would go down in history as true faith heroes.

  25. The second thing I want to touch on before we begin

  26. is when we were on our weekend away a couple weeks ago today,

  27. I was sitting at lunch with a man called Wyatt

  28. from the group called YWAM,

  29. that youth with a mission,

  30. a missions group that were visiting us.

  31. Me and Wyatt talked over our lunch,

  32. and one of the things we discussed was

  33. that me, as a 15-year-old boy,

  34. is just as cool as all of these faith heroes

  35. and the different speakers we hear.

  36. And it's something I feel like I know,

  37. but it really hit me

  38. of those people we just heard about,

  39. Paul, David, Abraham,

  40. or any of the other apostles.

  41. They were all called to different things,

  42. and we're just as cool to our calling as they were.

  43. So those are the two things I want you to remember.

  44. God loves you and died for you,

  45. and we are called just as much as one another.

  46. So what does it actually mean to work for the Lord?

  47. Well, for one, I think it starts with knowing

  48. that it is not in our timing.

  49. David was appointed to become king before Goliath,

  50. and when Goliath came around,

  51. there was a promise that whoever killed Goliath

  52. would become king.

  53. But when David killed Goliath,

  54. he didn't go to Saul and claim his throne.

  55. Instead, he went back to his job.

  56. I think David knew that he wasn't in charge

  57. and that when he was meant to become king,

  58. it would happen.

  59. But there was a time before that

  60. that he had to go through to reach his calling.

  61. We all have these callings

  62. that we are all called to,

  63. but there was a time before that

  64. that we must work for the Lord

  65. before we can reach it.

  66. This can sound terrifying

  67. or like it's too much to do,

  68. but it's okay,

  69. because honestly, it is too much

  70. for us alone.

  71. The people in these passages,

  72. they didn't have to do it alone.

  73. They had a God in heaven

  74. who now walks with us on earth

  75. to help them.

  76. It says in the Bible,

  77. in this world,

  78. you will have trouble.

  79. And that is true.

  80. As Christians,

  81. we live our lives daily

  82. and we have troubles that face us.

  83. But then it says,

  84. to take heart

  85. for he has overcome the world.

  86. Let's look at a story in the Bible

  87. where we see this.

  88. In the Old Testament,

  89. a king made a statue

  90. and he commanded everyone

  91. to bow down

  92. and they ordered

  93. the whole nation

  94. on their knees

  95. to this false god.

  96. And there were three men

  97. out of everyone

  98. in a whole country

  99. standing to,

  100. Meshach,

  101. Shadrach,

  102. and Abednego.

  103. They end up with being

  104. thrown into a furnace

  105. for doing this.

  106. And at this point,

  107. if they were alone,

  108. they would surely die.

  109. But instead,

  110. they were seen

  111. walking around the fire

  112. with a fourth man

  113. described as looking

  114. like a son of the gods.

  115. They knew they didn't

  116. have to do it alone.

  117. They did it with

  118. an all-powerful God

  119. that protected them

  120. when they needed it.

  121. I doubt we are going

  122. to face trials

  123. like they did.

  124. But day in and day out,

  125. we have a responsibility

  126. to reflect the love

  127. we have been given

  128. on this earth

  129. by God.

  130. Let's look at Adam.

  131. That's Adam from

  132. the Old Testament,

  133. not me.

  134. What did he do

  135. in the garden

  136. before him and Eve

  137. made the mistake

  138. of eating the apple?

  139. The fruit.

  140. It doesn't actually say apple.

  141. In the perfect paradise,

  142. there was a form of work.

  143. He tended to the garden.

  144. Adam showed us

  145. the role in working

  146. for the Lord

  147. is to develop

  148. and take care

  149. of what which we have

  150. been given by the Lord

  151. and to do it with a joy

  152. that's rooted in him.

  153. And that sounds

  154. so simply put like that.

  155. So why can it be

  156. such a struggle sometimes?

  157. I think it's because

  158. it's easy.

  159. We've been given

  160. free will

  161. and that means

  162. we can choose

  163. to follow God

  164. or to not.

  165. And I think

  166. so often

  167. the easiest choice

  168. in the moment

  169. is to not

  170. and we will

  171. get it wrong.

  172. But luckily,

  173. even when we do

  174. get it wrong,

  175. we will

  176. because none of us

  177. can live that perfect life

  178. that Jesus came down

  179. to live for us,

  180. God will still call you

  181. a son and daughter

  182. and he will still

  183. call you

  184. to this amazing life

  185. that he's got

  186. prepared for you.

  187. if you're sitting

  188. here wondering,

  189. I want to work

  190. for the Lord

  191. but I don't know

  192. where or how

  193. to start,

  194. I challenge you

  195. to get stuck

  196. into your Bible

  197. and prayer life.

  198. Over time,

  199. you will begin

  200. to fall in love

  201. with God

  202. and it will invoke

  203. you to do so much

  204. more from a fascination

  205. of this amazing love

  206. we've been given

  207. and a determination

  208. to earn it

  209. because nothing

  210. you do

  211. will ever be enough

  212. to earn it,

  213. unfortunately.

  214. But that's okay

  215. because he gave it

  216. to you.

  217. When Jesus

  218. gave his life

  219. up on that cross,

  220. he said,

  221. it is finished.

  222. Just sit on that.

  223. Yes,

  224. it is finished.

  225. Our debt is paid

  226. and that means

  227. we can have

  228. this relationship

  229. with God.

  230. The sweetest thing

  231. that we can ever

  232. be offered

  233. and this work

  234. I have talked about

  235. will very quickly

  236. become a part

  237. of this relationship

  238. because it is

  239. so worth it.

  240. So if you're

  241. to remember

  242. one thing

  243. from today,

  244. I'd say this.

  245. God died for you.

  246. You are called

  247. and you don't have

  248. to walk this earth alone.

  249. God has given us

  250. each other

  251. to help us thrive

  252. with him

  253. and I want you

  254. to consider it all.

  255. The God who made

  256. the stars,

  257. the earth,

  258. and other planets

  259. billions of light years

  260. away,

  261. he looked at you

  262. and he said,

  263. I have a plan

  264. for this one

  265. who I'm very glad

  266. with.

  267. And he is calling you

  268. to something

  269. so much greater.

  270. Thank you.

  271. Heavenly Father,

  272. we thank you

  273. that you created

  274. each and everyone

  275. in your perfect plan,

  276. your perfect purpose.

  277. and we just pray

  278. now, Lord Jesus,

  279. that in whatever context

  280. we're going into

  281. this week,

  282. whether that be

  283. in school,

  284. in college,

  285. at work,

  286. in our own homes,

  287. Lord Jesus,

  288. we just pray

  289. that you would help us

  290. to do everything

  291. as if we are working

  292. for the Lord.

  293. As those great heroes

  294. of faith did,

  295. just like Adam

  296. talked to us about.

  297. Lord,

  298. would we work

  299. not for our own glory

  300. but for yours.

  301. And would you give us

  302. opportunities

  303. and eyes to

  304. see those opportunities

  305. for what they are,

  306. to take you

  307. into the places

  308. that we're going

  309. into this week.

  310. Amen.

  311. Amen.

  312. Amen.

  313. Amen.

  314. Amen.

  315. Amen.

  316. Amen.

  317. Amen.

  318. Amen.
