  1. Thank you, Ron. Appreciate that this morning.

  2. Do you want to take your Bibles from Mark chapter 12 this morning?

    Mark 12 chapter mention

  3. Mark chapter 12 as we continue on our series going through the book of Mark

    Mark 12 chapter mention

  4. and just seeing how God has revealed His Son Jesus Christ to us through the Gospels.

  5. And we find here in Mark chapter 12, we're in Tuesday of the last week here before the crucifixion.

    Mark 12 chapter mention

  6. And Tuesday in the temple, we find here was a long day for our Lord as He was faced with multiple rounds of questioning.

  7. And we're going to walk through those.

  8. And this is one of those days in the life of Jesus that has much recorded about it.

  9. And so we're going to begin here earlier in the day.

  10. If you remember last week, the scribes and the elders and the chief priests had come and questioned Jesus about His authority.

  11. You know, who gives you authority to do these things?

  12. And Jesus had replied back to them about the question of John the Baptist.

  13. By whose authority did He come?

  14. You know, who is He?

  15. And they thought they could bring everything to a stalemate by saying, we don't know.

  16. You know, but we're going to find here this morning that Jesus had much to say about this as He brings forth a parable to them about the landowner that planted a vineyard.

  17. And He prepared and He protected the vineyard that He left in the hands of a husbandman.

  18. And this was something similar.

  19. We're going to find this idea and concept we're going to read about.

  20. Today we would call it sharecropping.

  21. You know, where you have a portion of land that somebody takes and produces on.

  22. And then the owner expects fruit or reward to be manifest from it.

  23. And so Jesus brings them with a very familiar illustration that they would have known and understood in His day,

  24. which is really a dynamic that's very practical.

  25. We understand the spiritual through the physical of the things that we can relate to with that.

  26. And so we need to understand, though, that as a parable, the Bible tells us here very clearly this is a parable.

  27. So we need to interpret it as a parable, okay?

  28. A parable is simply this.

  29. It's a parable is just a common, a fictitious narrative of common life conveying a moral.

  30. You know, in other words, it's something about common life that everybody would understand that had a moral attached to it

  31. or some sort of moral reality attached to it to say, okay, you need to understand the principle here,

  32. and this will help you do it.

  33. And so we see here this morning as Jesus is going to use this tool to help His disciples

  34. and help the leaders to grab a hold of that.

  35. And so if you found Mark chapter 12 this morning, we're going to stand together in honor of the reading of the Word of God.

    Mark 12 chapter mention

  36. And we're going to read down through this parable here that the Lord gave here this morning.

  37. And so we find here in Mark chapter 12, it says,

    Mark 12 chapter mention

  38. And he began to speak unto them by parables.

  39. A certain man planted a vineyard and set a hedge about it and digged a place for the vineyard

  40. and built a tower and led it out to husbandmen and went into a far country.

  41. And at the season he sent to the husband and the servant that he might receive from the husbandman of the fruit of the vineyard.

  42. And they caught him and beat him and sent him away empty.

  43. And again he sent unto them another servant.

  44. And at him they cast stones and wounded him in the head and sent him away shamefully handled.

  45. And again he sent another and him that they killed and many others beating some and killing some.

  46. Having yet therefore one son is well beloved.

  47. He sent him also last unto them saying,

  48. They will reverence my son.

  49. But those husbandmen said among themselves,

  50. This is the heir, come let us kill him and the inheritance shall be ours.

  51. And they took him and killed him and cast him out of the vineyard.

  52. What shall therefore the Lord of the vineyard do?

  53. He will come and destroy the husbandmen and will give the vineyard unto others.

  54. And have ye not read this scripture?

  55. The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner.

  56. This is the Lord's doing and is marvelous in our eyes.

  57. And they sought to lay hold of him but feared the people for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them.

  58. And they left him and went their way.

  59. Let's pray.

  60. Heavenly fathers we come before you this morning Lord as we see here today the parable of the vineyard.

  61. The Lord of the vineyard.

  62. Lord we pray just would reveal those truths to us today Lord that we would need.

  63. Lord to realize the facts about you that are revealed in it.

  64. To understand how those things apply to us as individuals even today.

  65. And Lord we pray just work in a mighty way.

  66. We ask it all in your precious name.

  67. Amen.

  68. May you be seated.

  69. You know as we find here today we know from the end the parable definitely hit home.

  70. You know.

  71. The Bible makes it clear that they knew the parable was spoken against them.

  72. You know those that had came and questioned Jesus' authority.

  73. Remember Jesus didn't directly answer the question of authority.

  74. But this parable is that.

  75. It gives them a practical application of the idea of authority.

  76. And the structure of why there is this level and this dynamics of authority.

  77. And it hit the point very directly to them.

  78. And he did this by pointing out three facts about God and what God has done.

  79. And what God is going to do.

  80. You know we're going to look at those things that Jesus pointed out this morning that hit home with them.

  81. Because they're the same three things that are going to hit home with you and me.

  82. When we understand what Jesus was telling them about through this parable that is here.

  83. You know we notice here as we begin in verse 1.

  84. When he spake to them he says a certain man planted a vineyard.

  85. You know.

  86. In other words we're going to see here this man planted a vineyard.

  87. And he prepared all the things that were necessary for it to succeed.

  88. You know as you read through verse 1 you find that he planted it.

  89. He put a hedge about it.

  90. That was a way of protection from the animals.

  91. He put a tower so they could watch over and protect and defend the vineyard.

  92. We're going to see here that all these things were prepared.

  93. And so we're going to see here the first thing that Jesus is going to point out to them very clearly is God's goodness.

  94. The goodness of God is something where we need to start to understand that God is a good God.

  95. He is good to us.

  96. And we're going to see here he was good to Israel because this idea of a vineyard is directly connected to Israel.

  97. And we're going to look at that here in just a moment.

  98. But understand God's goodness to us.

  99. He starts out at this point with them because the leaders had just questioned his authority.

  100. And Jesus replies here using a picture of a vineyard.

  101. Now I want you to understand in the temple they tell us that in Herod's temple on the front doors of the temple area there was a big grape vine that was engraved upon the doors.

  102. In other words this picture of a vineyard, a picture of grapes, a picture of all these things was very clear to the children of Israel what they were talking about and how it was connected.

  103. And we find here that Jesus uses this picture of the vine and God had been good to Israel.

  104. And the picture here is that he had brought them out of Egypt into the land of promise and put them into the land.

  105. You know, take a look over into Isaiah chapter 5 for a moment.

    Isaiah 5 chapter mention

  106. Isaiah chapter 5 because Isaiah the prophet uses this same illustration.

    Isaiah 5 chapter mention

  107. That Jesus brings forth.

  108. That's the other reason I think they understood it very clearly because they would have known Isaiah's writings.

  109. And Jesus made a parable directly from this because you'll see the correlations that are here.

  110. You know, Isaiah chapter 5 and verse 1.

    Isaiah 5 chapter mention

  111. Notice what it says.

  112. Now I will sing to my well-beloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard.

  113. My well-beloved hath a vineyard and a very fruitful hill.

  114. And he fenced it and gathered out of the stones thereof and planted it with the choicest vine.

  115. And built a tower in the midst of it and also among the winepress made a winepress therein.

  116. And he looked and it should bring forth grapes and it brought forth wild grapes.

  117. Verse 3.

  118. And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, between me and my vineyard,

  119. what could have been done more to my vineyard that I have not done in it?

  120. Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, it brought forth wild grapes.

  121. You know, Jesus here is using this same illustration as the vineyard and the master of the vineyard.

  122. The man who owned the vineyard, who took and planted and prepared and protected all the things that were there.

  123. It was a picture of Israel.

  124. And he says he lent it out to husbandmen.

  125. And to understand, if we look down in Isaiah, look down in chapter 5, verse 7.

  126. It says,

  127. For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant.

  128. And he looked for judgment, but behold, oppression.

  129. For righteousness, but behold, a cry.

  130. You know, you see the parallels that Jesus uses here from Isaiah in this parable.

  131. It stood out very clearly in their mind that what he was speaking of was them.

  132. You know, the parable is very direct here in this,

  133. because God's goodness is revealed that the vine was planted and protected.

  134. It had the hedge to keep the wild beasts out.

  135. It had a wine press.

  136. That's that wine fat that's mentioned there.

  137. And a place, you know, it's a place to process the vineyard and along with the tower.

  138. And clearly the Lord was good.

  139. You know, the Lord's been good to us by giving us all that we have.

  140. When we understand what he has given to us, God is good.

  141. Clearly he is good to us.

  142. Even today, you think about all the things God gives to us.

  143. You know, we have all the things around us.

  144. We have the very creation.

  145. We have the things that God provides.

  146. You know, even the rain that falls and the sunshine we have is from the goodness of God.

  147. God gives it to us.

  148. But we see here the pictures of a man that left his vineyard in the hands of the husband to work the vineyard,

  149. giving them a share to enjoy.

  150. Now, notice at the end of verse 1 here, he says this,

  151. You know, the husband here represent those that were to watch over the vineyard while the master was gone.

  152. There was a direct connection between those leaders that had come and addressed him.

  153. It was their responsibility of their position to guide and direct the nation.

  154. To guide and protect and oversee and to keep on track and to make fruitful the vine that the Lord had planted,

  155. and that is Israel.

  156. And we see that bringing forth here.

  157. And as we see here that the harvest was prepared,

  158. and when this man sends his servant, which is a representative of the prophets,

  159. to receive his share, instead of giving what's owed,

  160. he gets a pretty cold reception.

  161. You know, we see here what happens.

  162. That husbandmen that were supposed to be willing to give back the reward of a portion of what they had been blessed,

  163. refused.

  164. And they beat the servant and sent him away.

  165. God had been good to them, and they said,

  166. We don't care.

  167. You know, it's not unlike today.

  168. Oftentimes we forget how good God is to us.

  169. And we look at him and say, I don't care.

  170. Jesus reminds them here of a very important fact that God gives us and reveals his goodness.

  171. God is good to us.

  172. Jesus makes a very important point here in the fact that God is good.

  173. He is there.

  174. And we find, though, that they rejected him.

  175. You know, we need to consider how good God has even been to us today.

  176. You know, look over in the New Testament.

  177. Look over at Colossians chapter 1 for a moment.

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  178. Colossians chapter 1 tells us this.

    Colossians 1 chapter mention

  179. It's just a reminder for us here this morning.

  180. Notice here in verse 12, it says,

  181. You know, God's very salvation that he gives to us is proof of his goodness.

  182. Of what he provides for us.

  183. But as we see here, this man that owned the vineyard sends his servant,

  184. and they beat his servant, and they send him away.

  185. We find that we see the second fact about God that Jesus reveals.

  186. Because the second thing we see is God's grace.

  187. Because at the first rejection,

  188. did the owner not have a right to come and cast judgment just from one time?

  189. He had a right to come and to retake and to regain his possession.

  190. To have judgment and authority over it.

  191. But I want you to see what happened here.

  192. Because it's a picture of God's grace to us.

  193. You know, I'm thankful God's gracious to us.

  194. And we see here, notice, as we look through this passage here,

  195. notice in the end it says,

  196. And received from the vineyard the husband and the fruit of the vineyard.

  197. And they caught him, verse 3,

  198. And beat him and sent him away.

  199. You know, the first one was beaten.

  200. Verse 4, And again he sent unto them another servant.

  201. And at him they cast stones and wounded him in the head

  202. and sent him away, shamefully handled.

  203. You know, here he is.

  204. He sends the first one that's beaten and returns.

  205. The second one has rocks thrown at him and is injured.

  206. And returns and tells.

  207. And the master, they send another one.

  208. Look at verse 5.

  209. And again he sent unto them another servant.

  210. And at him they cast stones and wounded him in the head

  211. and sent him away.

  212. Excuse me, verse 5.

  213. And again he sent another.

  214. And him they killed.

  215. And many others, beaten some and killing some.

  216. In other words, we don't even have a total of how many the master sent.

  217. And we see that he continued to send them

  218. and make a request.

  219. He says, Hey guys, this is what you need to be doing.

  220. Son, I'm calling out to you.

  221. And finally we find here in verse 6,

  222. the landowner sends his son.

  223. The last one to come is his son.

  224. Saying they will reverence my son.

  225. But we find here in verse 7,

  226. their response was not to accept the son as a landowner

  227. instead of plotting to kill the son

  228. and claim the grapevine as their own.

  229. Now I want you to see here,

  230. this parable speaks directly to those religious leaders

  231. in the fact about God's grace to them.

  232. But it also speaks to us when we understand

  233. as they were listening to that there that day,

  234. we see a picture of God sent a man of God to Israel.

  235. But Israel refused to heed the messenger.

  236. You know, oftentimes we forget how many times

  237. you read through the Old Testament,

  238. it's filled with prophet after prophet after prophet

  239. that God sent.

  240. Saying, repent and turn to me.

  241. The Old Testament's filled with prophets

  242. that were abused and rejected.

  243. Those that were denied what God has done.

  244. And what God has proclaimed.

  245. And we see here as he's continually,

  246. he begins to send prophet after prophet.

  247. And they were beaten and killed and rejected.

  248. And then as we find in chapter 11,

  249. we find the last prophet there,

  250. John the Baptist.

  251. You know, John was the one who came

  252. calling for them to be prepared for the son.

  253. To be prepared for the last that was going to come.

  254. But remember, they refused John also.

  255. You know, we looked at that last week in chapter 11,

  256. how the leaders rejected John.

  257. Remember, they didn't know what to do with John.

  258. The people said he was a prophet,

  259. so we don't want to make the people mad.

  260. But, you know, we don't want to say he was a prophet,

  261. because that means we should have accepted him.

  262. They were in a quandary.

  263. There was a problem that was there.

  264. And so when Jesus speaks this parable,

  265. you've got to remember it was immediately following.

  266. So in other words, the conversation is still on their mind.

  267. This dynamic is directly connected.

  268. And we said that he sends John the Baptist,

  269. and as they refused him,

  270. and now they're faced with the last one, the son.

  271. Jesus had come, the very son of God, the well-beloved,

  272. had come and arrived on the scene,

  273. saying, they will reverence my son.

  274. Israel should have recognized Jesus.

  275. They had everything that they needed to recognize him.

  276. God had given them everything they needed

  277. to make recognition and to acknowledge who he is.

  278. To understand who he is and why he came.

  279. God had given them a witness about who and how things were going to be

  280. and how to identify the son.

  281. But instead of accepting the witness, they rejected him.

  282. You know, I want you to understand,

  283. when it comes to God's grace,

  284. God's grace is tied to the witnesses that God leaves to us

  285. so we can understand who he is.

  286. Because we've rejected the Lord.

  287. We reject God and his authority.

  288. But we have witnesses that God gives to us.

  289. You know, today we have,

  290. the two of the witnesses are exactly the same

  291. as they were and have been

  292. because, you know, the Bible tells us

  293. that we have a witness of creation.

  294. When you get out and see God's creation,

  295. there's no other explanation.

  296. People try to explain away

  297. and they try to materialize creation.

  298. They try to say, you know, it was an accident.

  299. You know,

  300. and logically in the back of our mind,

  301. everybody understands that you don't get order out of chaos.

  302. I would love if it worked that way.

  303. You know,

  304. wouldn't it be great to throw things in the garage

  305. and they just put themselves away?

  306. Or ladies, wouldn't it be neat, you know,

  307. especially if you got kids at home,

  308. if you threw clothes in the dryer

  309. and they came out folded and pressed?

  310. You know,

  311. we all understand logically that doesn't happen.

  312. You don't get order out of chaos.

  313. Order has to happen because of intention

  314. and something interacting

  315. and moving it that direction.

  316. You know, consider what Romans chapter 1 and verse 20 tells us.

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  317. It tells us this,

  318. for the invisible things of Him

  319. from the creation of the world are clearly seen,

  320. being understood by the things that are made,

  321. even His eternal power and Godhead,

  322. so that they are without excuse.

  323. I want you to understand,

  324. God gives us His creation as a witness to who He is.

  325. When you see the masterful handiwork of the Lord,

  326. of how everything,

  327. you know,

  328. oftentimes when we talk about that,

  329. we talk about the beauty

  330. and the things that we see

  331. that just make us awe-inspired.

  332. But I want you to understand,

  333. it's everything in creation

  334. as you study it down

  335. all the way to the very means

  336. of how an atom is put together.

  337. You know,

  338. there's a lot of things

  339. we take for granted in science today

  340. that we have no idea how it works.

  341. We have no idea.

  342. We might say,

  343. well, I understand how it works,

  344. but you don't know why it works.

  345. The why is still a problem.

  346. We don't understand magnetism

  347. or you don't understand those things.

  348. You understand the principles

  349. of what it functions,

  350. but you don't understand why it does it.

  351. The why is God.

  352. God designed it that way.

  353. His creation.

  354. But how about our conscience?

  355. You know,

  356. those in Jesus,

  357. they had the world that they could see.

  358. They had a witness all around them.

  359. And we also have their conscience.

  360. You know,

  361. yes,

  362. God gives us a conscience.

  363. Notice what it says in Romans chapter 2

    Romans 2 chapter mention

  364. in verse 14.

  365. It says,

  366. For when the Gentiles,

  367. which have not the law,

  368. do by nature the things contained in the law,

  369. these things having not the law

  370. are law unto themselves,

  371. which show the work of the law

  372. written in their hearts,

  373. their conscience also bearing witness,

  374. and their thoughts,

  375. and their thoughts the mean

  376. while accusing

  377. or else excusing one another.

  378. I want you to see here,

  379. very importantly,

  380. that everybody has a sense

  381. of right and wrong.

  382. The problem with the conscience is

  383. a conscience can be twisted.

  384. But I don't care who you are,

  385. if you pin people down,

  386. they have a conscience that says,

  387. there's some things that I believe are right,

  388. and I have some things I believe that are wrong.

  389. It's innately wired within us.

  390. God gives us a conscience

  391. to understand

  392. there are some things that are wrong

  393. and some things that are right.

  394. He gives us a conscience as a witness.

  395. Your conscience bears witness to you.

  396. You know,

  397. we also wonderfully and thankfully

  398. we have the witness of the Word of God.

  399. You know,

  400. today we have the Word of God,

  401. the completed Word of God.

  402. You know,

  403. when you understand

  404. in the Old Testament,

  405. there were some things,

  406. especially early on,

  407. that they didn't know

  408. or they didn't understand completely

  409. how we do today.

  410. You say,

  411. why not?

  412. Because God had not directly

  413. revealed that to them.

  414. But today,

  415. we have absolutely no excuse.

  416. We have the Word of God.

  417. And notice how important it is.

  418. Ephesians chapter 1 and verse 13

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  419. says this,

  420. in whom ye also trusted,

  421. notice this,

  422. after that ye heard

  423. the word of truth,

  424. the gospel of your salvation,

  425. in whom also,

  426. after ye believed,

  427. you were sealed

  428. with the Holy Spirit

  429. of promise.

  430. I want you to understand

  431. it's the Word of God.

  432. Faith cometh by hearing

  433. and hearing by the Word of God

  434. that makes a difference.

  435. It works upon our conscience.

  436. It works upon our being.

  437. The Holy Spirit convicts

  438. us of sin

  439. and we realize

  440. our need

  441. to turn to Him.

  442. You know,

  443. I want you to understand

  444. we also have a witness

  445. of believers.

  446. Because your life

  447. ought to be a witness

  448. to those around you.

  449. A testament.

  450. And that witness

  451. ought to go forth.

  452. You know,

  453. it's a great

  454. and wonderful thing.

  455. You know,

  456. Matthew 24,

    Matthew 24:14

  457. verse 14,

  458. it says,

  459. in this gospel,

  460. the kingdom

  461. shall be preached

  462. in all the world

  463. for a witness

  464. unto all nations.

  465. I want you to understand

  466. we'll just talk

  467. a little bit here

  468. but that word

  469. preach just means

  470. proclaimed.

  471. Proclaimed means

  472. somebody went

  473. and said it.

  474. That proclamation

  475. comes from believers

  476. of who God is

  477. as we consider

  478. the grace of God.

  479. We see God's grace

  480. with us today.

  481. You know,

  482. as we walk through life

  483. we see God's grace

  484. played out

  485. and Jesus here

  486. is pointing to them

  487. and saying,

  488. guys,

  489. God has been good to you

  490. and you've seen

  491. His grace

  492. throughout time.

  493. You've seen

  494. the grace of God

  495. as God continued

  496. to have mercy

  497. upon you.

  498. As He sent

  499. the prophets

  500. to proclaim

  501. and now finally

  502. He sent His Son.

  503. when we see here

  504. the reality

  505. as we consider

  506. God's grace

  507. He's still

  508. patiently waiting

  509. for us

  510. to call upon Him

  511. because He will save.

  512. You know,

  513. what grace

  514. that He would even

  515. call us to

  516. keep calling us

  517. to Him

  518. for salvation.

  519. What grace

  520. that He would keep

  521. seeking

  522. and calling

  523. and loving

  524. and drawing

  525. until we come to Him.

  526. You know,

  527. God's grace

  528. is prevalent today.

  529. Consider 2 Peter

    2 Peter 3 chapter mention

  530. chapter 3.

  531. 2 Peter chapter 3

    2 Peter 3:9

  532. verse 9

  533. tells us this,

  534. the Lord is not slack

  535. concerning His promises

  536. as some men

  537. count slackness.

  538. You know,

  539. sometimes people

  540. confuse God's grace

  541. and mercy

  542. for God's slackness

  543. of accountability.

  544. don't be confused

  545. because they are

  546. different.

  547. God's grace

  548. we ought to be

  549. thankful

  550. because none of us

  551. would be here today

  552. if God's grace

  553. was not in full effect.

  554. Because it wasn't

  555. for God's grace

  556. the moment you sin

  557. you'd be totally

  558. 100% condemned.

  559. It wouldn't just be

  560. a sentence

  561. it would be

  562. the sentence

  563. carried out.

  564. Notice what He says

  565. but long suffering

  566. toward us.

  567. In other words

  568. God says

  569. I know

  570. that you've sinned

  571. but I still want

  572. to give you

  573. an opportunity

  574. to call upon Me

  575. to repent

  576. of your sin

  577. and turn to Me.

  578. Because notice

  579. why is He saying

  580. He's not willing

  581. that any should perish.

  582. You know

  583. a lot is said today

  584. about God's love

  585. that's God's love.

  586. God's love

  587. He's not willing

  588. that any should perish

  589. but that all

  590. should come to repentance.

  591. God says

  592. I'm going to extend

  593. My grace

  594. to them

  595. I'm going to display

  596. My love to them

  597. through that

  598. and have mercy

  599. upon them.

  600. for all those

  601. who will call

  602. upon Him

  603. Jesus

  604. makes it

  605. you know

  606. we need to understand

  607. that if we come

  608. to Him

  609. Jesus is clear

  610. the rest of the

  611. New Testament

  612. is clear

  613. the Old Testament

  614. is clear

  615. if you come

  616. to God

  617. and call upon Him

  618. as Savior

  619. He will save.

  620. He is clear.

  621. I want you

  622. to look here

  623. at verse 9

  624. in our text

  625. it says

  626. what shall therefore

  627. the Lord

  628. of the vineyard do?

  629. Because we see

  630. that Jesus

  631. has revealed

  632. God's goodness

  633. He reveals

  634. God's grace

  635. but I want you

  636. to see

  637. Jesus now

  638. points that

  639. God

  640. will be glorified

  641. above all.

  642. He reveals

  643. the glory

  644. of God.

  645. God's glory

  646. is revealed

  647. that He will

  648. hold to account

  649. He will hold

  650. all mankind

  651. to account.

  652. Notice what

  653. He tells us here

  654. how is the answer?

  655. You know

  656. what should

  657. the Lord

  658. of the vineyard

  659. do?

  660. Well what's

  661. the premise

  662. of that?

  663. How should

  664. the Lord

  665. of the vineyard

  666. respond

  667. when the one

  668. sent

  669. have been

  670. beaten

  671. and killed

  672. and rejected?

  673. and when

  674. they take

  675. the one

  676. that He

  677. sent

  678. His well

  679. beloved

  680. His only

  681. beloved

  682. Son

  683. when Jesus

  684. came

  685. and then they

  686. took here

  687. in just a few

  688. short days

  689. you're going

  690. to find

  691. that these

  692. men

  693. took Jesus

  694. and they

  695. nailed Him

  696. on a cross

  697. they rejected

  698. once again

  699. they rejected

  700. the Son

  701. Jesus was

  702. telling them

  703. what was

  704. going to

  705. happen

  706. He understood

  707. the hardness

  708. of their

  709. hearts

  710. notice what

  711. He says

  712. here

  713. He says

  714. He will

  715. come

  716. and destroy

  717. the husband

  718. and will

  719. give the

  720. vineyard

  721. unto another

  722. notice

  723. what's

  724. happening

  725. here

  726. after

  727. repeated

  728. attempts

  729. to come

  730. and to

  731. reconcile

  732. and to

  733. make

  734. provision

  735. He says

  736. finally

  737. it's too

  738. late

  739. I want you

  740. to understand

  741. there's coming

  742. a day

  743. it's too

  744. late

  745. it's going

  746. to be too

  747. late to

  748. repent

  749. we understand

  750. that without

  751. a doubt

  752. the leaders

  753. caught the

  754. moral of

  755. the story

  756. they understood

  757. the authority

  758. that Jesus

  759. had

  760. had and

  761. who gave

  762. him

  763. that

  764. authority

  765. as Jesus

  766. reveals

  767. these things

  768. this morning

  769. because after

  770. repeated

  771. attempts

  772. finally

  773. God says

  774. that those

  775. that have

  776. rebelled

  777. against the

  778. Lord's

  779. command

  780. are going

  781. to face

  782. judgment

  783. accountability

  784. you know

  785. God cannot

  786. be a just

  787. God

  788. if he

  789. doesn't

  790. hold to

  791. account

  792. justice

  793. requires

  794. accountability

  795. now where we

  796. get caught up

  797. in that

  798. often times

  799. is we

  800. think God

  801. ought to

  802. do it

  803. right now

  804. the problem

  805. with that

  806. is

  807. have you

  808. ever noticed

  809. that when we

  810. want God's

  811. judgment

  812. right now

  813. it's usually

  814. on somebody

  815. else

  816. you ever

  817. notice that

  818. that's exactly

  819. in our

  820. mind

  821. isn't it

  822. they

  823. deserve

  824. it

  825. the reality

  826. is what

  827. I deserve

  828. it

  829. I deserve

  830. God's

  831. judgment

  832. but the

  833. good news

  834. is

  835. is Jesus

  836. came

  837. Jesus

  838. is the

  839. one who

  840. took care

  841. of the

  842. judgment

  843. for me

  844. when we

  845. understand

  846. that they

  847. had rebelled

  848. against the

  849. Lord

  850. and faced

  851. judgment

  852. look in

  853. Romans

    Romans 11 chapter mention

  854. chapter 11

  855. for a

  856. moment

  857. because

  858. Romans

  859. 11

  860. deals

  861. with

  862. Israel

  863. and we

  864. see here

  865. some

  866. things

  867. it says

  868. well

  869. because of

  870. unbelief

  871. they were

  872. broken

  873. off

  874. and thou

  875. standest

  876. by faith

  877. be not

  878. high-minded

  879. but fear

  880. for if

  881. God spared

  882. not the

  883. natural

  884. branches

  885. take heed

  886. lest he

  887. also

  888. not

  889. spare

  890. not

  891. thee

  892. I want

  893. you to

  894. understand

  895. what's

  896. taking place

  897. here is a

  898. warning

  899. to even

  900. us today

  901. to understand

  902. to understand

  903. the importance

  904. of what

  905. God has

  906. done

  907. his

  908. goodness

  909. and his

  910. grace

  911. to us

  912. this

  913. final

  914. messenger

  915. the son

  916. the one

  917. whom they

  918. rejected

  919. we're going

  920. to find

  921. here that

  922. God removes

  923. Israel

  924. Israel's

  925. cut off

  926. this is

  927. Daniel chapter

    Daniel 9 chapter mention

  928. 9

  929. happening

  930. that

  931. Israel

  932. is cut

  933. off

  934. for a

  935. time

  936. I want

  937. to make

  938. that clear

  939. because God

  940. says he gave

  941. it to another

  942. he didn't

  943. create

  944. a replacement

  945. for Israel

  946. he put

  947. Israel on

  948. hold

  949. because one

  950. day God's

  951. going to

  952. finish

  953. holding them

  954. to account

  955. when we

  956. understand

  957. what's

  958. happening

  959. I want

  960. you to

  961. understand

  962. that we

  963. are now

  964. the vineyard

  965. of the

  966. Lord

  967. in holding

  968. the truth

  969. of the

  970. word of

  971. God

  972. and proclaiming

  973. it the

  974. local church

  975. is the

  976. foundation

  977. of those

  978. things

  979. when we

  980. understand

  981. the importance

  982. here

  983. look over

  984. in 1

  985. Peter

  986. because remember

  987. Jesus said

  988. that they

  989. were going

  990. to come

  991. and condemn

  992. the husband

  993. and give

  994. it unto

  995. another

  996. I want

  997. you to

  998. understand

  999. New

  1000. Testament

  1001. believers

  1002. have been

  1003. given

  1004. this

  1005. responsibility

  1006. and we

  1007. have the

  1008. same

  1009. responsibility

  1010. that those

  1011. in Israel

  1012. had

  1013. we have

  1014. the same

  1015. accountability

  1016. 1 Peter

    1 Peter 2 chapter mention

  1017. chapter 2

  1018. look at

  1019. verse 9

  1020. it tells us

  1021. this

  1022. but ye are

  1023. a chosen

  1024. generation

  1025. a royal

  1026. priesthood

  1027. a holy

  1028. nation

  1029. a peculiar

  1030. people

  1031. that ye

  1032. should show

  1033. forth the

  1034. praises of

  1035. him who

  1036. hath called

  1037. you out

  1038. of darkness

  1039. into his

  1040. marvelous

  1041. light

  1042. which

  1043. in time

  1044. past

  1045. were not

  1046. a people

  1047. but are

  1048. now the

  1049. people of

  1050. God

  1051. which had

  1052. not obtained

  1053. mercy

  1054. but now

  1055. have obtained

  1056. mercy

  1057. I want you

  1058. to understand

  1059. that God

  1060. took

  1061. and Israel

  1062. is on hold

  1063. God has

  1064. removed that

  1065. from them

  1066. and has given

  1067. it unto

  1068. his church

  1069. unto the

  1070. believers

  1071. today

  1072. and we

  1073. understand

  1074. the importance

  1075. of it

  1076. I want you

  1077. to know

  1078. this morning

  1079. as we

  1080. look at

  1081. this

  1082. the reality

  1083. of God's

  1084. goodness

  1085. God has

  1086. been good

  1087. to us

  1088. God's been

  1089. gracious

  1090. to us

  1091. those same

  1092. facts hold

  1093. true today

  1094. just as

  1095. Jesus was

  1096. calling them

  1097. to repentance

  1098. I want you

  1099. to understand

  1100. Jesus wasn't

  1101. condemning them

  1102. directly

  1103. in the sense

  1104. of saying

  1105. I'm picking

  1106. you

  1107. I've

  1108. rejected you

  1109. no the fact

  1110. is they

  1111. rejected him

  1112. he gave

  1113. them a

  1114. parable

  1115. that they

  1116. might

  1117. understand

  1118. that their

  1119. conscience

  1120. might work

  1121. that the

  1122. Holy Spirit

  1123. might prick

  1124. their heart

  1125. and say

  1126. you know

  1127. what

  1128. he's

  1129. right

  1130. you know

  1131. what

  1132. he's

  1133. accurate

  1134. about

  1135. what

  1136. he's

  1137. saying

  1138. you know

  1139. what

  1140. I'm

  1141. guilty

  1142. the

  1143. reality

  1144. of that

  1145. that mercy

  1146. that God

  1147. gives

  1148. I want

  1149. you to

  1150. know

  1151. that very

  1152. clearly

  1153. that God

  1154. is good

  1155. and God

  1156. is gracious

  1157. but I want

  1158. you to

  1159. understand

  1160. he also

  1161. is going

  1162. to hold

  1163. sin to

  1164. account

  1165. his glory

  1166. demands

  1167. an accounting

  1168. look back

  1169. in Romans

  1170. for a moment

  1171. Romans chapter

    Romans 11 chapter mention

  1172. 11 again

  1173. look down

  1174. at verse

  1175. 22

  1176. look at

  1177. the beginning

  1178. of this

  1179. verse

  1180. you know

  1181. behold

  1182. therefore

  1183. the goodness

  1184. and severity

  1185. of God

  1186. I want you

  1187. to understand

  1188. when God

  1189. judges

  1190. God judges

  1191. accurately

  1192. and completely

  1193. you know

  1194. today we

  1195. have a lot

  1196. of question

  1197. about judges

  1198. and courts

  1199. and legal

  1200. systems

  1201. but I want

  1202. to tell you

  1203. there's no

  1204. fancy lawyer

  1205. going to get

  1206. you off the

  1207. hook

  1208. when it

  1209. comes to

  1210. standing

  1211. before the

  1212. Lord

  1213. they might

  1214. try to

  1215. sweet talk

  1216. themselves

  1217. out of

  1218. things

  1219. or try

  1220. to manipulate

  1221. or maneuver

  1222. but the

  1223. Bible

  1224. tells us

  1225. there's

  1226. coming a

  1227. day

  1228. and God's

  1229. going to

  1230. open up

  1231. a book

  1232. a book

  1233. in which

  1234. your life

  1235. and every

  1236. thought

  1237. everything

  1238. of your

  1239. life

  1240. has been

  1241. recorded

  1242. I want

  1243. you to

  1244. understand

  1245. that

  1246. look how

  1247. Jesus

  1248. replies to

  1249. them

  1250. look down

  1251. here in

  1252. verse 10

  1253. and have

  1254. ye not

  1255. read this

  1256. scripture

  1257. now that

  1258. was kind

  1259. of a

  1260. rhetorical

  1261. question

  1262. considering

  1263. the crowd

  1264. when you

  1265. got the

  1266. chief

  1267. priests

  1268. and the

  1269. scribes

  1270. and the

  1271. elders

  1272. there

  1273. of Israel

  1274. it's really

  1275. a rhetorical

  1276. question

  1277. because all

  1278. of them

  1279. have probably

  1280. read this

  1281. many times

  1282. now look

  1283. what Jesus

  1284. says

  1285. the stone

  1286. which the

  1287. builders

  1288. rejected

  1289. has become

  1290. the head

  1291. of the

  1292. corner

  1293. this was

  1294. the Lord's

  1295. doing

  1296. and is

  1297. marvelous

  1298. in our

  1299. eyes

  1300. you know

  1301. Matthew's

  1302. account of

  1303. this

  1304. adds this

  1305. he says

  1306. this about

  1307. it in

  1308. Matthew

  1309. 21

  1310. 44

  1311. it says

  1312. whosoever

  1313. shall fall

  1314. upon this

  1315. stone

  1316. shall be

  1317. broken

  1318. but whomsoever

  1319. it shall

  1320. fall

  1321. it will

  1322. grind him

  1323. to powder

  1324. the reality

  1325. is this

  1326. Jesus is

  1327. the corner

  1328. stone

  1329. he is

  1330. the stone

  1331. you either

  1332. fall upon

  1333. it for

  1334. mercy

  1335. or later

  1336. it falls

  1337. upon you

  1338. now logic

  1339. if you're a

  1340. logical person

  1341. I would

  1342. much rather

  1343. be on top

  1344. of the stone

  1345. calling for

  1346. mercy

  1347. than it

  1348. would be

  1349. to be

  1350. under

  1351. the stone

  1352. Jesus

  1353. is asking

  1354. you today

  1355. to fall

  1356. upon the

  1357. stone

  1358. of him

  1359. to understand

  1360. that he

  1361. is the

  1362. one

  1363. just as the

  1364. leaders there

  1365. that day

  1366. had to make

  1367. a choice

  1368. you and I

  1369. have a choice

  1370. to make

  1371. today

  1372. that's what

  1373. everything

  1374. came down

  1375. to

  1376. either you

  1377. will fall

  1378. on Jesus

  1379. and be

  1380. broken

  1381. in conviction

  1382. and repent

  1383. and turn

  1384. to him

  1385. or one

  1386. day

  1387. the stone

  1388. is going

  1389. to fall

  1390. upon you

  1391. and crush

  1392. you to

  1393. powder

  1394. the choice

  1395. is yours

  1396. the choice

  1397. is yours

  1398. because God's

  1399. offering you

  1400. a chance

  1401. to be saved

  1402. he's offering

  1403. you a chance

  1404. to have all

  1405. your sins

  1406. forgiven

  1407. he's offering

  1408. you an

  1409. opportunity

  1410. to avoid

  1411. hell

  1412. and make

  1413. heaven

  1414. with him

  1415. your eternal

  1416. home

  1417. God is there

  1418. he's calling

  1419. you

  1420. the question

  1421. is how

  1422. are you

  1423. going to

  1424. respond

  1425. because you

  1426. got two

  1427. choices

  1428. you can either

  1429. come to him

  1430. or reject

  1431. him

  1432. that's where

  1433. those men

  1434. stood that

  1435. day

  1436. look at

  1437. verse 12

  1438. look at

  1439. their response

  1440. and they

  1441. sought to

  1442. lay hold

  1443. on him

  1444. but they

  1445. feared the

  1446. people

  1447. here they

  1448. are

  1449. living their

  1450. life based

  1451. on opinion

  1452. again

  1453. opinion

  1454. and perception

  1455. sadly

  1456. today

  1457. opinion

  1458. and perception

  1459. keep many

  1460. people from

  1461. Christ

  1462. because they're

  1463. more worried

  1464. about what

  1465. somebody else

  1466. thinks than

  1467. what and

  1468. where they

  1469. stand between

  1470. them and

  1471. God

  1472. for they

  1473. knew that

  1474. he had

  1475. spoken the

  1476. parable

  1477. against

  1478. them

  1479. and they

  1480. left him

  1481. and went

  1482. their way

  1483. I want

  1484. you to

  1485. understand

  1486. today that

  1487. you have

  1488. a choice

  1489. you can

  1490. either turn

  1491. to God

  1492. or you

  1493. can walk

  1494. away

  1495. the reality

  1496. is everybody

  1497. in the room

  1498. here makes

  1499. a choice

  1500. today

  1501. there's

  1502. going to

  1503. be a

  1504. choice

  1505. made

  1506. what

  1507. choice

  1508. will you

  1509. make

  1510. this

  1511. morning if

  1512. you need

  1513. to come

  1514. to the

  1515. Savior I

  1516. encourage you

  1517. to come

  1518. we can have

  1519. somebody show

  1520. you clearly

  1521. from God's

  1522. word how

  1523. you can be

  1524. saved

  1525. because I

  1526. want you to

  1527. understand it's

  1528. not my

  1529. way it's

  1530. not the

  1531. preacher's

  1532. way it's

  1533. not a

  1534. historical

  1535. way it's

  1536. God's

  1537. way

  1538. there's no

  1539. other way

  1540. I encourage

  1541. you not to

  1542. walk away

  1543. but maybe

  1544. you're here

  1545. today and

  1546. you know

  1547. that you've

  1548. called upon

  1549. him that

  1550. you've been

  1551. mercifully upon

  1552. the stone

  1553. been broken

  1554. by the

  1555. conviction of

  1556. the Holy

  1557. Spirit

  1558. maybe you

  1559. know clearly

  1560. there's a

  1561. time in your

  1562. life when

  1563. you called

  1564. upon him

  1565. as Savior

  1566. maybe you

  1567. just need to

  1568. take a few

  1569. moments today

  1570. to remember

  1571. God's

  1572. goodness to

  1573. you

  1574. and his

  1575. grace

  1576. that we

  1577. ought to

  1578. come to

  1579. him

  1580. heavenly

  1581. father as

  1582. we just

  1583. finish here

  1584. this morning

  1585. lord with an

  1586. opportunity

  1587. an opportunity

  1588. to respond

  1589. to your

  1590. word

  1591. lord I

  1592. pray that you

  1593. have your

  1594. hand upon

  1595. each heart

  1596. each life

  1597. here today

  1598. you know

  1599. each one

  1600. just as you

  1601. knew the

  1602. hearts of

  1603. those men

  1604. there that

  1605. day

  1606. you know

  1607. the hearts

  1608. of each

  1609. individual

  1610. in the

  1611. auditorium

  1612. this morning

  1613. lord I

  1614. pray that

  1615. your spirit

  1616. would work

  1617. in a

  1618. mighty

  1619. way

  1620. you know

  1621. the need

  1622. of each

  1623. one

  1624. lord we

  1625. just ask

  1626. that be

  1627. met

  1628. today

  1629. and that

  1630. we would

  1631. respond

  1632. to you

  1633. and lord as

  1634. we turn this

  1635. invitation to

  1636. you and your

  1637. spirit lord we

  1638. pray that you

  1639. just work

  1640. mightily in

  1641. hearts here

  1642. today

  1643. and this we

  1644. ask in the

  1645. precious name

  1646. of Jesus

  1647. amen

  1648. heads are

  1649. bowed and

  1650. eyes are

  1651. closed
