  1. Well, thank you for allowing me to come back.

  2. I want to thank Pastor Smith and his faithfulness and his commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ

  3. ! and to our ministry over in Burkina Faso.

  4. And I do praise the Lord for that.

  5. I believe that this church had taken us on when Brother Inman was here,

  6. back when we were on deputation several years ago.

  7. And I do thank you for that.

  8. I want my wife to stand because she's the better half if she would stand.

  9. This is my faithful help me for 42 plus years and God has blessed us.

  10. And I thank the Lord for someone like her as my help me.

  11. Okay.

  12. On the table, there's a little brochure doesn't mean anything,

  13. but basically it's just nothing but pictures.

  14. And you're more than welcome to take that.

  15. I wish I can give you all kinds of pictures, but I can't do it.

  16. And then when we talk about pictures, we always want to stop and talk about something that we had done in relationship to them.

  17. And I've had missionaries that would show their slides.

  18. And before you know it, this is three hours later.

  19. They're still talking because every picture has a story attached to it.

  20. Now, I'm not sure how many people had heard me before.

  21. How many people have been here with me before?

  22. Okay.

  23. So there's a few.

  24. So if you find these stories repetitive, it's by design.

  25. There are all kinds of stories.

  26. There are all kinds of illustrations.

  27. And the point of the stories, the points of these illustrations is to show you how God actually works.

  28. Because the truth of the matter is, it has nothing to do with the missionary and everything to do with the grace of God.

  29. And, you know, people say, well, the missionaries, the whatever.

  30. And the truth is, I love what I'm doing.

  31. I wouldn't want to do anything different.

  32. So when people say, well, missionaries really suffer.

  33. Not me.

  34. I certainly enjoy what God has called me to.

  35. And I would not want to do anything else.

  36. And I know my wife feels the same way.

  37. So turn in your Bibles to 2 Corinthians chapter number 1.

  38. And I just want to give you a couple verses.

  39. And then another one in Ecclesiastes.

  40. And then basically share with you what we're doing in Burkina Faso.

  41. And what we continue to do.

  42. And it's the same thing that what we as Christians ought to do right here in Lincoln, Nebraska.

  43. And what we ought to do all over America.

  44. And all over the world.

  45. The truth of the matter is, if Christianity is in trouble,

  46. it's because Christians are not fulfilling what God had called them to do.

  47. And I'll talk about that in Sunday school.

  48. But 2 Corinthians chapter number 1.

  49. Look at verse number 3.

  50. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies,

  51. and a God of all comfort.

  52. God is a God of all comfort.

  53. Is he not?

  54. Now this verse is written to who?

  55. To us.

  56. It's also written to Burkina Bay.

  57. It's written to Chinese.

  58. It's written to every single person in the world.

  59. He is the God of all comfort for me, for you, and for all others.

  60. And sometimes we don't really comprehend that.

  61. Look at verse number 4.

  62. Who, that is the God of all comfort, comforted us in all our tribulation.

  63. Do we go through tribulation?

  64. Who doesn't go through tribulation?

  65. I think we all do.

  66. Job said, man that is born of a woman is full of trouble.

  67. Is that not true?

  68. If you're married, you're full of trouble.

  69. So, we live in a sin-saturated world.

  70. We live in a body that is sin-saturated.

  71. And so, certainly we're going to go through all kinds of trouble and tribulations.

  72. That is the lot of life.

  73. We can't escape the fallen nature of this world.

  74. We can't escape the fallen nature of our own selves.

  75. And so, we will go through tribulation.

  76. We'll go through trials.

  77. We'll go through temptations.

  78. But listen to what he says.

  79. That we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble.

  80. Well, the question is, how do we comfort those who are in trouble?

  81. See, that's the question that we have to pose ourselves, or that my wife and I pose ourselves, on a continual basis.

  82. When we went to Burkina Faso, the average life expectancy was 37 years of age in our country.

  83. Four out of ten children died by the age of ten.

  84. Death is a reality in our country.

  85. Now, I will say, we're over 60 years of age now.

  86. So, we're increasing.

  87. When we got to the country, we were the third poorest country in the world.

  88. The third poorest.

  89. Right now, we're the 19th poorest country in the world.

  90. So, we are up and coming.

  91. But the point I'm trying to make is that we see suffering on a daily basis.

  92. We see people that are without constantly.

  93. And we sit there and we pray and we wonder, how can we help these people?

  94. How can we comfort them in their trials and tribulations?

  95. That's a question that I think we all need to pose ourselves.

  96. As we look around Lincoln and see people that are suffering.

  97. Now, I'm not talking about people who put on that smile and walk around as if everything is fine.

  98. Because we know, in the human heart, it's not fine.

  99. We know, in our own families, we struggle.

  100. And that's a fact of life.

  101. And I want you to understand that.

  102. How do we comfort someone who's going through all these trials and tribulations?

  103. Many of the trials and tribulations that we ourselves have gone through and are going through presently.

  104. Where does that comfort come from?

  105. Well, turn over to Ecclesiastes chapter 4.

    Ecclesiastes 4 chapter mention

  106. Now, as you're turning over there, when Jesus says in John 14,

  107. If I do not go away, I will not send a comforter to you.

  108. Who was he referring to?

  109. The Holy Spirit.

  110. Is that not true?

  111. The God of all comfort.

  112. God himself, the Holy Spirit, is the one that comforts.

  113. We don't have the ability to comfort people in tribulation.

  114. We don't have the knowledge.

  115. We don't have the know-how.

  116. We don't have the resources to help others that are going through tribulation.

  117. But there is something we do know.

  118. We know one who can.

  119. Is that not true?

  120. Look at Ecclesiastes chapter 4, verse number 1.

    Ecclesiastes 4 chapter mention

  121. The wisest man in the world that ever was.

  122. The smartest man.

  123. The richest man.

  124. The one that said he tried everything under the sun.

  125. This is what he said in verse number 1.

  126. He said,

  127. So I returned and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun.

  128. So I looked around.

  129. I saw the oppressions.

  130. I saw the trouble.

  131. I saw the tribulations.

  132. I saw the afflictions of people throughout the world.

  133. He said,

  134. That are done under the sun.

  135. And behold, the tears of such as were oppressed.

  136. And listen to what he said.

  137. And they had no comforter.

  138. The comforter is the Holy Spirit.

  139. When a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior,

  140. according to the Word of God,

  141. they receive the Holy Spirit of comfort.

  142. The moment they're saved.

  143. One of the hardest things that I have in relationship to teaching the Burkina Bay

  144. is that, hey, the same Holy Spirit in my heart

  145. is the same Holy Spirit in your heart.

  146. See, they think,

  147. Well, because you're an American,

  148. you don't have the need of the comfort of the Holy Spirit

  149. because you have all you ever want.

  150. They don't understand human nature at this time.

  151. And Solomon continues,

  152. And on the side of their oppressions,

  153. there was power.

  154. But,

  155. they had no comforter.

  156. The point I'm trying to make is,

  157. the greatest thing that we can do to anybody in trial and tribulation

  158. is to present to them the Lord Jesus Christ.

  159. To point them to the Savior of the world

  160. that will send them the Holy Spirit of comfort.

  161. That will lead them and guide them

  162. and help them overcome the trials and tribulations

  163. that they're going through.

  164. Anywhere in the world,

  165. it works.

  166. You say,

  167. Well,

  168. what do you mean it works?

  169. I mean the Word of God is true.

  170. I mean the Word of God is effective.

  171. If I could solve all the problems in Burkina Faso

  172. with my own intelligence,

  173. I would.

  174. If I had a pocketbook big enough

  175. to alleviate all the suffering

  176. because of the financial distress that people are under,

  177. I would.

  178. If I had all the knowledge of

  179. the greatest medical profession in the world,

  180. I would help if I could.

  181. But I'm not smart.

  182. I'm not rich.

  183. I don't have a whole lot.

  184. But this one thing I know.

  185. I know Him.

  186. And I know He is able

  187. to help them

  188. that call on Him by faith.

  189. And one of the greatest joys

  190. that I see in ministry

  191. is to be able to

  192. point people

  193. without any knowledge of Jesus Christ,

  194. point them to Jesus Christ

  195. and let God work in

  196. and through their hearts and lives.

  197. And you know what's amazing?

  198. He does!

  199. That's just amazing.

  200. God's Word is true.

  201. It actually works.

  202. What do you mean it works?

  203. I mean,

  204. when a person comes to Jesus Christ,

  205. immediately they get that

  206. Holy Spirit of comfort in their hearts.

  207. How does he do that?

  208. I don't know.

  209. I never claimed any knowledge.

  210. You know,

  211. I'm like that blind man in John chapter 9.

    John 9 chapter mention

  212. I don't know anything.

  213. But this one thing I know.

  214. Where I was blind,

  215. now I see.

  216. We don't need to have

  217. all the knowledge in the world.

  218. We don't need to figure out

  219. what these people

  220. ought to do

  221. and ought not to do.

  222. That's not my function

  223. as a missionary.

  224. I wish I could.

  225. I wish I understood

  226. the problems of the world.

  227. I'll give you a little hint.

  228. I'm still trying to figure out

  229. the problems in my own life.

  230. To worry about the problems

  231. that everyone else has.

  232. But I'm not there

  233. to solve the problems

  234. of the Burkina Bay.

  235. I'm there to introduce them

  236. to the one who can.

  237. And that's our goal.

  238. I'll give you an illustration.

  239. Actually, there's several.

  240. And I'll give you more

  241. if you ask me afterwards.

  242. But these are the three

  243. main illustrations

  244. that really touched my heart

  245. and proved to me

  246. that I don't know anything.

  247. But God does.

  248. And God actually fulfills His Word.

  249. We had a young lady.

  250. Of course, everyone's young

  251. compared to my wife.

  252. I want you to know.

  253. But we have a young lady.

  254. For some reason,

  255. she knocked on our door

  256. in Wagadougou.

  257. And so I went out

  258. and answered the door.

  259. She said,

  260. Hey, I understand

  261. there's this old fat missionary

  262. that picks up people

  263. to come to church.

  264. And I looked at her

  265. and said,

  266. Well, I don't know about

  267. the old and the fat part,

  268. but we pick people

  269. to come up to church.

  270. So she said,

  271. Well, will you start

  272. picking me up?

  273. I said, sure.

  274. So Mary and I,

  275. we went out every Sunday morning,

  276. picked her up in our car

  277. and brought her to church.

  278. She would come

  279. with her three kids

  280. and they were faithful.

  281. They were excited.

  282. It was amazing.

  283. And then one Sunday,

  284. she came forward

  285. and got saved.

  286. We were excited about it.

  287. She said,

  288. I'll never get baptized.

  289. Well, guess what happened?

  290. She got baptized,

  291. became a member of the church.

  292. Everything was going great.

  293. Now, you understand

  294. that she's a typical Burkina babe.

  295. She did not have any education

  296. being a woman.

  297. She was from a village,

  298. married a man,

  299. and they moved into Ouagadougou

  300. and had three children by him

  301. and then he left.

  302. Here she is in the capital city,

  303. two to four million people,

  304. without any income,

  305. without any ability

  306. that they even communicate effectively.

  307. and she had to go

  308. and do whatever she could

  309. to feed her kids.

  310. I've seen her

  311. out there on the street corner

  312. with a mango in her hand

  313. that fell from a tree,

  314. holding it up

  315. for the pastor buyers

  316. and the cars

  317. and the mopalettes

  318. to stop by

  319. and buy that mango

  320. for a penny

  321. or less than a penny.

  322. And she did that

  323. over and over again.

  324. And I remember one time

  325. going to her house,

  326. and this was after a while,

  327. that she had a goat's head

  328. that she was cooking.

  329. And I said,

  330. wow, I said,

  331. your kids are going to eat good today.

  332. She said,

  333. oh, no, missionary,

  334. that's not for my kids.

  335. I'm going to take them out

  336. on the street

  337. and sell them

  338. to the pastor buyers.

  339. That's how she made her money.

  340. Now, she also had

  341. one advantage

  342. that most of these other ladies

  343. don't have.

  344. She had her in-laws

  345. live in the capital city.

  346. So they said,

  347. we'll give you money

  348. each week

  349. to feed our grandchildren.

  350. So she took it.

  351. Well, one Sunday,

  352. Mary and I went to pick her up

  353. and she got in the car

  354. and she was really quiet.

  355. We come to church.

  356. She got out of the car.

  357. She went into church

  358. and she sat down

  359. in the front row

  360. as she always does.

  361. But when the singing commenced,

  362. she did not sing.

  363. That's unusual

  364. because she's loud

  365. and boisterous

  366. when she sings.

  367. But she wouldn't sing

  368. and she just kept

  369. her head bowed.

  370. After the services,

  371. we said,

  372. something's wrong

  373. with Jermaine

  374. and so let's bring

  375. her home last.

  376. So we brought everyone

  377. home first

  378. and then we brought

  379. her home last.

  380. She was getting out

  381. of the car.

  382. I said,

  383. Jermaine, honey,

  384. tell me what's wrong

  385. with you.

  386. And tears began

  387. to flow down her cheeks.

  388. She said,

  389. missionary,

  390. she said,

  391. I don't know

  392. what to do.

  393. I said,

  394. what do you mean?

  395. She said,

  396. my in-law said,

  397. if I keep coming

  398. to your church,

  399. they will not give me

  400. any more money

  401. to feed my children.

  402. And that made me mad.

  403. And I thought,

  404. well,

  405. who are they?

  406. Don't you worry about it.

  407. I will take care of you.

  408. I got the money.

  409. It wouldn't cost much,

  410. two dollars a week

  411. to feed her kids.

  412. But I really felt

  413. God touched my heart

  414. and said,

  415. now wait a minute.

  416. Are you her God?

  417. Or am I her God?

  418. And I knew God

  419. didn't want me

  420. to say anything.

  421. And you know

  422. how hard that was?

  423. It's devastating.

  424. And so I said,

  425. Jermaine,

  426. we can't,

  427. we can't do anything.

  428. We don't know

  429. what to do.

  430. We can't answer

  431. your question.

  432. But we'll pray

  433. with you.

  434. So we prayed

  435. and she got out of course,

  436. tears still flowing

  437. down her cheeks.

  438. And we didn't know

  439. what to do.

  440. We prayed that entire week

  441. about what we should do.

  442. I thought about

  443. giving money

  444. to the neighbor

  445. to give to her.

  446. I thought about

  447. sending it indiscreetly

  448. and everything.

  449. And God kept saying,

  450. no, no, no,

  451. she has to trust me,

  452. not you.

  453. And so we,

  454. when it came time

  455. for us to go pick her up

  456. on Sunday,

  457. I actually thought

  458. about not going.

  459. Why waste her time?

  460. But we went there anyway

  461. and she actually

  462. got in the car

  463. and her kids

  464. and came to church.

  465. But she's still quiet,

  466. wouldn't say anything,

  467. sat in the front row,

  468. didn't sing.

  469. And we didn't know

  470. what to do again.

  471. So we brought her back home

  472. and she got out of the car,

  473. still quiet.

  474. Second week,

  475. same thing happened.

  476. By the third week,

  477. she's out there

  478. singing

  479. and just like her old self.

  480. Well,

  481. being the nosy preacher

  482. that I am,

  483. I wanted to know

  484. what happened.

  485. So after church,

  486. I said,

  487. Jermaine,

  488. whatever happened

  489. between you

  490. and your in-laws?

  491. And you know

  492. what she said?

  493. She said,

  494. me and my in-laws?

  495. Oh,

  496. I'm just trusting the Lord.

  497. I don't understand that.

  498. She has no education.

  499. She can't read and write.

  500. She has no job.

  501. She has three kids to feed.

  502. Her husband had left her.

  503. Her in-laws

  504. had discarded her.

  505. And yet,

  506. here's this girl

  507. with every problem

  508. in the world

  509. and she's saying,

  510. I'm just trusting the Lord

  511. and smiling about it.

  512. How did God

  513. comfort her heart?

  514. Because who she had

  515. in her heart.

  516. Do you understand that?

  517. God worked

  518. in her heart.

  519. Wow.

  520. That's just amazing.

  521. And we get to see

  522. what God does

  523. all the time.

  524. I'll give you another story.

  525. Caddy,

  526. actually Mary

  527. knew Caddy's older sister

  528. and she said

  529. her sister needed a job.

  530. She was a young Muslim woman

  531. and so Mary hired her

  532. to come into our house.

  533. And Mary is very evangelistic

  534. and so she started witnessing

  535. the Caddy

  536. and Caddy pretended

  537. she didn't want to hear it.

  538. But she did

  539. and she just kept quiet.

  540. Mary would bring in

  541. these vegetable ladies

  542. to her house

  543. and she would witness to them

  544. knowing that Caddy

  545. was listening.

  546. and Caddy,

  547. even though she was raised

  548. with her dad

  549. and the two wives,

  550. grew up in Ouagadougou

  551. as a Muslim.

  552. But after,

  553. I don't know,

  554. several months,

  555. if not a year,

  556. she came to us.

  557. She said,

  558. well,

  559. you know,

  560. I'd like to start

  561. going to your church.

  562. We said,

  563. okay.

  564. So we started picking her up

  565. to come to church.

  566. She started coming

  567. and started listening

  568. and before you know it,

  569. guess who got saved?

  570. Caddy got saved.

  571. Caddy got baptized.

  572. She really began to grow

  573. and it was exciting

  574. to see God transform

  575. this young Muslim woman.

  576. Well,

  577. as is a habit

  578. in Burkina Faso,

  579. you get a month off,

  580. a complete month,

  581. 30 days off

  582. and many of them

  583. will take time out

  584. to go visit family

  585. in the villages.

  586. Well,

  587. Caddy took her month off

  588. to go visit

  589. in her village

  590. and she brought

  591. her little

  592. 10-year-old nephew

  593. and something terrible

  594. happened.

  595. She said that,

  596. and with tears,

  597. again,

  598. flowing down her cheeks

  599. as she related the story,

  600. she said,

  601. missionary,

  602. I demanded,

  603. I asked,

  604. I pleaded with the boy,

  605. her nephew,

  606. to go greet

  607. his grandmother.

  608. His grandmother

  609. was a shaman

  610. and so

  611. with Caddy

  612. deer prodding him,

  613. he went

  614. and

  615. introduced himself

  616. to the grandma

  617. and the grandmother

  618. placed a curse

  619. upon him

  620. and he got sick

  621. that night.

  622. Caddy

  623. got worried

  624. so she brought him

  625. back to Ouagadougou,

  626. put him in the best

  627. children's hospital

  628. we had in the entire

  629. country

  630. and he died

  631. because of a curse.

  632. I don't know,

  633. but he died.

  634. Caddy come to work,

  635. tears flowing down

  636. her cheeks.

  637. She said,

  638. I can't,

  639. I don't know what to do.

  640. Why did God

  641. allow this to happen?

  642. What do you say?

  643. What do you say?

  644. We're going to try

  645. to defend God?

  646. We're going to try

  647. to speak for God?

  648. We just watched her

  649. cry

  650. and we prayed

  651. for her.

  652. She said,

  653. missionary,

  654. I don't think I can

  655. go to church anymore.

  656. So she stopped

  657. coming to church.

  658. We watched her

  659. cry

  660. day after day,

  661. week after week.

  662. Why

  663. did this happen?

  664. Well,

  665. after a while,

  666. she came to us

  667. and said,

  668. well,

  669. I think I need

  670. to start going

  671. back to church.

  672. And she started

  673. going back to church

  674. little by little.

  675. And after

  676. a few

  677. months,

  678. she was back

  679. to normal,

  680. singing

  681. and

  682. fellowshipping

  683. and having a good

  684. time just like

  685. she did before.

  686. In fact,

  687. in our Bible

  688. Institute,

  689. all the guys

  690. didn't even

  691. understand or

  692. didn't even know

  693. what had happened

  694. to her and

  695. her nephew

  696. because something

  697. had completely

  698. changed in her

  699. heart.

  700. How did God

  701. wipe away her

  702. tears?

  703. I don't know.

  704. But I know

  705. He did.

  706. Why?

  707. Because He's God.

  708. And He is the

  709. God of all

  710. comfort.

  711. He didn't say

  712. that we're the

  713. God of all

  714. comfort.

  715. He said He's

  716. the God of all

  717. comfort.

  718. So when we

  719. point people

  720. to Him,

  721. He's the one

  722. who will deal

  723. with their heart

  724. and comfort

  725. their heart

  726. through the

  727. trials and

  728. tribulations

  729. that they are

  730. presently going

  731. through.

  732. That's what He

  733. did.

  734. I'll give you

  735. another

  736. illustration.

  737. Dominic

  738. was raised

  739. in the village

  740. of Uwando,

  741. one of the

  742. first works

  743. we started.

  744. His parents

  745. had died

  746. when he was

  747. young,

  748. a young adult,

  749. a teenager.

  750. So he lived

  751. on his own

  752. in his own

  753. hut.

  754. He decided

  755. by his own

  756. testimony,

  757. he was

  758. determined to

  759. be the best

  760. animist that

  761. he could be.

  762. And then we

  763. came to the

  764. village and

  765. God allowed

  766. us to go

  767. from hut

  768. to hut

  769. to hut.

  770. Now we

  771. were going

  772. hut to hut

  773. to hut.

  774. We didn't

  775. knock on

  776. doors,

  777. so we

  778. would clap.

  779. People would

  780. come out

  781. and then they

  782. would sit

  783. under a tree

  784. and then you

  785. talk to them

  786. for two or

  787. three hours.

  788. Visiting over here

  789. is a long

  790. time.

  791. But their

  792. point is,

  793. hey, you

  794. asked them

  795. to come

  796. out, so

  797. now you're

  798. going to

  799. talk.

  800. And you

  801. can't leave

  802. until they

  803. give you

  804. permission to

  805. leave.

  806. So sometimes

  807. you're stuck

  808. there for

  809. hours.

  810. But anyway,

  811. we were out

  812. there and we

  813. were witnessing

  814. to the family

  815. after family

  816. and Dominic

  817. saw us and

  818. saw the car

  819. and came up

  820. to us the

  821. first day and

  822. he started

  823. following us

  824. around.

  825. First day,

  826. followed all

  827. the huts.

  828. Second day,

  829. he met us

  830. in the morning,

  831. followed us

  832. through all

  833. the huts.

  834. Third day,

  835. he did the

  836. same thing.

  837. He didn't

  838. respond.

  839. Dominic had

  840. a sixth

  841. grade education

  842. which was

  843. pretty high

  844. for that

  845. village.

  846. We held

  847. our first

  848. services that

  849. Sunday and

  850. Dominic came

  851. forward and

  852. got saved.

  853. It was a

  854. blessing.

  855. And so

  856. soon after

  857. he was

  858. baptized and

  859. we were

  860. beginning to

  861. start our

  862. Bible Institute

  863. so I asked

  864. Dominic if he

  865. would like to

  866. come in and

  867. be a part of

  868. our Bible Institute.

  869. He said,

  870. sure.

  871. So he

  872. started coming

  873. into our

  874. Bible Institute.

  875. He'd come in

  876. on the

  877. weekdays and

  878. be a part of

  879. our Bible Institute.

  880. After two

  881. years, I

  882. realized God's

  883. hand was upon

  884. him.

  885. So I said,

  886. Dominic,

  887. would you like

  888. to go out to

  889. your village and

  890. preach?

  891. He said,

  892. sure.

  893. So we

  894. got him on

  895. Mopelet and

  896. every Sunday

  897. morning he'll

  898. make that

  899. trip out

  900. there to

  901. his village

  902. about two

  903. and a half

  904. hours away.

  905. He'd preach

  906. and come

  907. back that

  908. Sunday evening.

  909. Well, in

  910. our Bible

  911. Institute, we

  912. had a get

  913. together and

  914. I asked

  915. Dominic if

  916. he would

  917. like to

  918. give a

  919. testimony to

  920. the other

  921. Institute

  922. students.

  923. He didn't

  924. tell me what

  925. he was going

  926. to say.

  927. He didn't

  928. say anything.

  929. He said,

  930. yeah, I'll

  931. do it.

  932. So without

  933. saying anything

  934. to me,

  935. he got up

  936. there in

  937. front of

  938. all the

  939. other students

  940. and he

  941. related this

  942. story that

  943. I want to

  944. tell you.

  945. It's the

  946. first time I

  947. ever heard

  948. of it.

  949. He said

  950. that one

  951. Sunday he

  952. was going

  953. out to

  954. his village

  955. and as

  956. he was

  957. driving his

  958. Mopelet,

  959. he came

  960. upon a

  961. rock quarry

  962. which was

  963. on top

  964. of a

  965. hill.

  966. As he

  967. started

  968. going up

  969. to the

  970. top of

  971. the hill,

  972. he looked

  973. up and

  974. he saw

  975. a man

  976. all in

  977. red.

  978. And he

  979. was hovering.

  980. His feet

  981. was not

  982. touching the

  983. ground.

  984. He said,

  985. did he

  986. really see

  987. that?

  988. I don't

  989. know.

  990. He thought

  991. he did.

  992. So he

  993. stopped.

  994. He said,

  995. I didn't

  996. know what

  997. to do.

  998. So he

  999. said,

  1000. I started

  1001. praying and

  1002. asking God

  1003. what I

  1004. should do.

  1005. As he

  1006. was down

  1007. there

  1008. praying,

  1009. another

  1010. Mopelet

  1011. come by

  1012. and he

  1013. jumped up

  1014. to get

  1015. the guy

  1016. to stop

  1017. and the

  1018. guy

  1019. wouldn't

  1020. stop.

  1021. So he

  1022. watched the

  1023. guy get

  1024. all the way

  1025. up to the

  1026. top of the

  1027. hill where

  1028. that man

  1029. in red

  1030. was.

  1031. When he

  1032. got up to

  1033. the top,

  1034. the Mopelet

  1035. crashed.

  1036. So Dominic

  1037. immediately ran

  1038. up there

  1039. and helped

  1040. this man

  1041. on his

  1042. Mopelet

  1043. and brought

  1044. him into

  1045. the next

  1046. town of

  1047. Moteiru

  1048. and dropped

  1049. him off

  1050. at the

  1051. clinic.

  1052. Never saw

  1053. that man

  1054. in red

  1055. again.

  1056. As he

  1057. got out

  1058. to his

  1059. village,

  1060. he began

  1061. to walk

  1062. towards his

  1063. hut and

  1064. he looked

  1065. around and

  1066. there was

  1067. blood all

  1068. over the

  1069. place.

  1070. There was

  1071. chicken

  1072. pieces all

  1073. over the

  1074. place that

  1075. was spread

  1076. around,

  1077. all around

  1078. his hut,

  1079. his house.

  1080. And he

  1081. knew what

  1082. it was.

  1083. See,

  1084. that's a

  1085. curse.

  1086. It's an

  1087. animistic

  1088. curse.

  1089. See,

  1090. they slaughter

  1091. a chicken

  1092. as a way

  1093. to say

  1094. that you're

  1095. in danger

  1096. and you

  1097. need to

  1098. leave.

  1099. So Dominic,

  1100. he understood

  1101. what was

  1102. happening.

  1103. He understood

  1104. that somebody

  1105. was trying

  1106. to drive

  1107. him out

  1108. of that

  1109. village.

  1110. It ended

  1111. up being

  1112. his brother.

  1113. But he

  1114. said,

  1115. he said,

  1116. I did not

  1117. know what

  1118. to do.

  1119. He said,

  1120. I looked

  1121. around,

  1122. I saw

  1123. all that

  1124. blood,

  1125. I saw

  1126. all those

  1127. chicken

  1128. pieces.

  1129. He didn't

  1130. know what

  1131. to do.

  1132. He said,

  1133. so I picked

  1134. up all

  1135. these chicken

  1136. pieces and

  1137. I cooked

  1138. them and

  1139. I thank

  1140. God for

  1141. my meal

  1142. that night.

  1143. God is

  1144. God.

  1145. God is my

  1146. witness.

  1147. That's

  1148. exactly what

  1149. he said.

  1150. He said,

  1151. well,

  1152. how could

  1153. a guy

  1154. who grew

  1155. up in

  1156. animism,

  1157. not fair

  1158. animism

  1159. anymore,

  1160. who he

  1161. had in

  1162. his heart?

  1163. We're

  1164. not

  1165. supposed

  1166. to solve

  1167. the problems

  1168. of the

  1169. world.

  1170. That's

  1171. his job.

  1172. And so

  1173. many people

  1174. try to

  1175. solve other

  1176. people's

  1177. problems

  1178. without

  1179. introducing

  1180. people to

  1181. the problem

  1182. solver.

  1183. You know,

  1184. as you read

  1185. the Word of

  1186. God,

  1187. you see

  1188. where God

  1189. says he

  1190. brings

  1191. tribulations

  1192. and trials

  1193. into people's

  1194. life for

  1195. them to

  1196. say,

  1197. hey,

  1198. wake up,

  1199. pay attention.

  1200. I love

  1201. you and

  1202. I want

  1203. you to

  1204. come to

  1205. me.

  1206. And

  1207. sometimes

  1208. those trials

  1209. and tribulations

  1210. are actually

  1211. all the time,

  1212. it's meant

  1213. to draw

  1214. each one

  1215. of us

  1216. closer to

  1217. him.

  1218. And

  1219. right in

  1220. the midst

  1221. of all

  1222. the trials

  1223. and tribulations

  1224. that we

  1225. go through

  1226. and that

  1227. others around

  1228. us are

  1229. going through,

  1230. God says

  1231. I have

  1232. an opportunity

  1233. to use

  1234. you,

  1235. to reach

  1236. others

  1237. with the

  1238. gospel

  1239. of the

  1240. Lord

  1241. Jesus

  1242. Christ.

  1243. And it

  1244. does not

  1245. depend on

  1246. how much

  1247. knowledge

  1248. you have.

  1249. You don't

  1250. got to

  1251. get a

  1252. psychological

  1253. degree,

  1254. you don't

  1255. got to

  1256. get a

  1257. medical

  1258. degree,

  1259. you don't

  1260. got to

  1261. get all

  1262. this other

  1263. stuff.

  1264. What you

  1265. really need

  1266. and what

  1267. I really

  1268. need is

  1269. just a

  1270. relationship

  1271. with

  1272. him.

  1273. And our

  1274. goal is

  1275. to point

  1276. to

  1277. him.

  1278. Behold

  1279. the Lamb

  1280. of God

  1281. which

  1282. takes away

  1283. the sins

  1284. of the

  1285. world.

  1286. after saying

  1287. all that,

  1288. guess what?

  1289. Who's

  1290. qualified to

  1291. be a

  1292. missionary?

  1293. Those who

  1294. love the

  1295. Lord Jesus

  1296. Christ.

  1297. Show me

  1298. in the

  1299. Bible where

  1300. the

  1301. qualifications

  1302. are your

  1303. knowledge.

  1304. Huh?

  1305. Well,

  1306. what did

  1307. the Sanhedrin

  1308. say about

  1309. the

  1310. apostles in

  1311. Acts chapter

    Acts 4 chapter mention

  1312. 4?

  1313. These are

  1314. unlearned and

  1315. ignorant

  1316. men.

  1317. I qualify.

  1318. Right there,

  1319. I qualify.

  1320. These are

  1321. unlearned and

  1322. ignorant men,

  1323. but they

  1324. took knowledge

  1325. of them that

  1326. they had

  1327. been with

  1328. Jesus.

  1329. The issue

  1330. is not

  1331. our knowledge.

  1332. The issue

  1333. is our

  1334. faith in

  1335. him.

  1336. Is it

  1337. not?

  1338. So,

  1339. when people

  1340. say I

  1341. don't

  1342. qualify to

  1343. be a

  1344. missionary,

  1345. what does

  1346. that mean?

  1347. I don't

  1348. understand that.

  1349. If I

  1350. thought that

  1351. everything in

  1352. Burkina Faso

  1353. depended on

  1354. my knowledge

  1355. and Mary's

  1356. knowledge,

  1357. we would

  1358. last.

  1359. We would

  1360. not last.

  1361. But see,

  1362. the ministry

  1363. does not

  1364. depend upon

  1365. me or

  1366. my wisdom.

  1367. it depends

  1368. upon him.

  1369. And our

  1370. goal in

  1371. Burkina Faso

  1372. is to say,

  1373. hey,

  1374. look,

  1375. the Savior

  1376. of the

  1377. world,

  1378. he died

  1379. for you.

  1380. He will

  1381. give you

  1382. that Holy

  1383. Spirit of

  1384. comfort if

  1385. you just

  1386. turn to

  1387. him in

  1388. faith.

  1389. I mean,

  1390. that's exactly

  1391. what we

  1392. do.

  1393. We don't

  1394. go around

  1395. and try

  1396. to solve

  1397. all the

  1398. problems

  1399. in

  1400. Burkina Faso.

  1401. My goodness,

  1402. that would

  1403. take a

  1404. lifetime and

  1405. I wouldn't

  1406. even have

  1407. done anything.

  1408. But we

  1409. are confident

  1410. in one

  1411. thing,

  1412. his ability

  1413. to help

  1414. people,

  1415. his ability

  1416. to help

  1417. my family

  1418. here in

  1419. America,

  1420. his ability

  1421. to help

  1422. my neighbors

  1423. right here

  1424. in America.

  1425. Because it

  1426. doesn't depend

  1427. on us,

  1428. it depends

  1429. on him.

  1430. and the

  1431. work we

  1432. do in

  1433. relationship

  1434. to Jesus

  1435. Christ is

  1436. simply

  1437. single-fold.

  1438. We have a

  1439. single purpose.

  1440. Look.

  1441. Look.

  1442. Look.

  1443. What's that

  1444. song?

  1445. Look and

  1446. live?

  1447. That's what

  1448. we do.

  1449. We point

  1450. people to

  1451. Jesus.

  1452. Anything

  1453. else doesn't

  1454. matter.

  1455. You want

  1456. to know how

  1457. to help

  1458. people in

  1459. the flesh?

  1460. You've got

  1461. a whole

  1462. world out

  1463. there trying

  1464. to do

  1465. that.

  1466. The whole

  1467. world is

  1468. trying to

  1469. help people.

  1470. Are they

  1471. not?

  1472. You walk

  1473. around and

  1474. people are

  1475. trying to

  1476. say what

  1477. this world

  1478. needs.

  1479. Well,

  1480. we need

  1481. what's that

  1482. thing called?

  1483. We need

  1484. democracy.

  1485. We need

  1486. these other

  1487. things.

  1488. Really?

  1489. You actually

  1490. think democracy

  1491. is going to

  1492. change the

  1493. heart of a

  1494. person.

  1495. Well,

  1496. a person

  1497. really can't

  1498. hear unless

  1499. you feed

  1500. them.

  1501. Okay?

  1502. You give

  1503. them food.

  1504. So they

  1505. go to hell

  1506. with a full

  1507. belly.

  1508. What does

  1509. that change?

  1510. What does

  1511. that change?

  1512. I'm trying

  1513. to encourage

  1514. you,

  1515. however

  1516. feeble

  1517. I'm doing

  1518. it,

  1519. is for you

  1520. to realize

  1521. that what

  1522. you're doing

  1523. for this

  1524. month during

  1525. the missions

  1526. emphasis

  1527. month that

  1528. you're in

  1529. right now

  1530. is to

  1531. realize that

  1532. the greatest

  1533. need in

  1534. this entire

  1535. world and

  1536. even in

  1537. Lincoln is

  1538. him.

  1539. It's for

  1540. this church

  1541. to stand

  1542. pointing to

  1543. him.

  1544. Try that.

  1545. Walk

  1546. outside

  1547. downtown

  1548. Lincoln and

  1549. just start

  1550. staring out.

  1551. Others will

  1552. start looking

  1553. up with you.

  1554. What you

  1555. looking up?

  1556. Jesus,

  1557. that's who

  1558. I'm looking

  1559. at.

  1560. It works.

  1561. It works.

  1562. Why?

  1563. Because it's

  1564. not about

  1565. us.

  1566. It's about

  1567. him.

  1568. And so

  1569. as you go

  1570. through this

  1571. missions month

  1572. and you hear

  1573. these different

  1574. missionaries

  1575. realize

  1576. it's about

  1577. you.

  1578. It's about

  1579. what you're

  1580. willing to

  1581. do to

  1582. point others

  1583. to him.

  1584. Does that

  1585. mean you're

  1586. willing to

  1587. go to

  1588. your neighbor?

  1589. to that

  1590. family member

  1591. that told

  1592. you don't

  1593. talk to me

  1594. anymore about

  1595. Jesus?

  1596. Yeah,

  1597. there's a lot

  1598. of problems

  1599. that we all

  1600. go through.

  1601. We're not

  1602. exempt because

  1603. we're in

  1604. church.

  1605. We're not

  1606. exempt because

  1607. we're Christians.

  1608. We still

  1609. live in the

  1610. flesh.

  1611. We still

  1612. live in the

  1613. fallen world.

  1614. Paul can

  1615. say at the

  1616. end of his

  1617. life after

  1618. writing 13

  1619. New Testament

  1620. epistles,

  1621. this is a

  1622. faithful saying

  1623. and worthy

  1624. of all

  1625. acceptation

  1626. that Christ

  1627. Jesus came

  1628. in the

  1629. world to

  1630. save sinners

  1631. of whom

  1632. I am

  1633. present

  1634. and chief.

  1635. See,

  1636. now that's

  1637. the first

  1638. error in

  1639. a Bible

  1640. I ever

  1641. found.

  1642. Paul could

  1643. say that

  1644. but he

  1645. didn't know

  1646. me.

  1647. That's the

  1648. truth.

  1649. We have

  1650. not arrived

  1651. yet.

  1652. And if

  1653. any man

  1654. thinks they

  1655. have arrived,

  1656. they have

  1657. deceived

  1658. themselves.

  1659. Each one

  1660. of us

  1661. struggle in

  1662. the flesh

  1663. right now.

  1664. And our

  1665. need,

  1666. each one

  1667. of us,

  1668. is him.

  1669. And in

  1670. the midst

  1671. of our

  1672. own

  1673. struggles,

  1674. our own

  1675. trials and

  1676. tribulations,

  1677. God says,

  1678. remember,

  1679. keep your

  1680. eyes on

  1681. him,

  1682. looking unto

  1683. Jesus,

  1684. the author

  1685. and finisher

  1686. of our

  1687. faith.

  1688. And that's

  1689. what we

  1690. do.

  1691. Hey,

  1692. we go

  1693. through

  1694. struggles,

  1695. but we

  1696. don't

  1697. him.

  1698. We know

  1699. how the

  1700. story ends.

  1701. We know

  1702. exactly

  1703. what we

  1704. need.

  1705. And we

  1706. all,

  1707. if we're

  1708. a Christian,

  1709. a born-again

  1710. believer,

  1711. we have the

  1712. Holy Spirit

  1713. of comfort

  1714. in our

  1715. hearts.

  1716. And there

  1717. hath no

  1718. temptation

  1719. taken me,

  1720. but such

  1721. as is

  1722. common

  1723. to men.

  1724. But God

  1725. will with the

  1726. temptation

  1727. also make

  1728. a way

  1729. to escape

  1730. that I

  1731. may be

  1732. able to

  1733. bear it.

  1734. And as

  1735. you continue

  1736. reading,

  1737. we're not

  1738. going to,

  1739. but as

  1740. you continue

  1741. reading 2 Corinthians

  1742. chapter number

  1743. 1, he talks

  1744. about that

  1745. very thing

  1746. in that

  1747. chapter.

  1748. We are

  1749. comforted by

  1750. God in

  1751. the tribulations

  1752. and the trials

  1753. that I am

  1754. going through

  1755. so that I'll

  1756. be able to

  1757. comfort those

  1758. who are in

  1759. a similar

  1760. trial of

  1761. affliction.

  1762. So,

  1763. anything that

  1764. I go

  1765. through,

  1766. God has

  1767. prepared me

  1768. to reach

  1769. others with

  1770. Him.

  1771. With Him.

  1772. Maybe that's

  1773. one of the

  1774. reasons Paul

  1775. said,

  1776. most gladly,

  1777. therefore will

  1778. I glory in

  1779. tribulations.

  1780. Why?

  1781. Because he

  1782. understands that

  1783. his testimony,

  1784. his witness

  1785. will be more

  1786. secure because

  1787. of the things

  1788. that he went

  1789. through.

  1790. Why?

  1791. Because we

  1792. found out in

  1793. our daily

  1794. walk that

  1795. God is

  1796. faithful.

  1797. What He

  1798. said to me,

  1799. He will

  1800. perform.

  1801. What He

  1802. said to you,

  1803. He will

  1804. perform.

  1805. In whose

  1806. timing?

  1807. Well, in

  1808. His timing.

  1809. Hey, if it

  1810. was my timing,

  1811. I wouldn't

  1812. have any

  1813. problems.

  1814. But see,

  1815. that's not

  1816. what problems

  1817. are designed

  1818. to do.

  1819. We have a

  1820. wonderful

  1821. opportunity

  1822. to reach

  1823. out with

  1824. the love

  1825. of Jesus

  1826. Christ.

  1827. You know,

  1828. I was

  1829. reading J.

  1830. Vernon McGee

  1831. again,

  1832. and he

  1833. said that

  1834. if you go

  1835. through what

  1836. God expects

  1837. of us,

  1838. he said

  1839. that these

  1840. shall know

  1841. ye are my

  1842. disciples by

  1843. the fundamentals

  1844. of the

  1845. faith.

  1846. Is that

  1847. what he

  1848. said?

  1849. No.

  1850. By your

  1851. love.

  1852. By your

  1853. love.

  1854. We love

  1855. those who

  1856. are in

  1857. trials and

  1858. afflictions.

  1859. There's only

  1860. one way.

  1861. Pointing them

  1862. to Jesus.

  1863. Pointing them

  1864. to Jesus.

  1865. You've got

  1866. millions of

  1867. people all

  1868. over the

  1869. world giving

  1870. out money

  1871. to help

  1872. those in

  1873. poverty.

  1874. And I

  1875. wish I had

  1876. the money

  1877. to hand

  1878. out.

  1879. Just like

  1880. Peter,

  1881. silver and

  1882. gold have

  1883. I none,

  1884. but such

  1885. as I

  1886. have,

  1887. give I

  1888. they in

  1889. the name

  1890. of Jesus

  1891. Christ.

  1892. Well,

  1893. what's he

  1894. talking about?

  1895. You can

  1896. do this

  1897. all the

  1898. time to

  1899. the poor.

  1900. Jesus said

  1901. the poor

  1902. you're always

  1903. going to

  1904. have with

  1905. you,

  1906. but their

  1907. greatest

  1908. need is

  1909. Jesus

  1910. Christ.

  1911. And we

  1912. who are

  1913. here in

  1914. this church

  1915. who know

  1916. Jesus Christ

  1917. have the

  1918. answer for

  1919. the problems

  1920. of this

  1921. world.

  1922. I didn't

  1923. say you

  1924. know how

  1925. to solve

  1926. them,

  1927. but you

  1928. know the

  1929. problem

  1930. solver.

  1931. And so

  1932. that's

  1933. what we

  1934. want to

  1935. do.

  1936. That's

  1937. what we

  1938. do in

  1939. Burkina

  1940. Fossil.

  1941. That's

  1942. what we

  1943. try to

  1944. do

  1945. everywhere

  1946. else we

  1947. go.

  1948. And that's

  1949. exactly what

  1950. this church

  1951. is doing

  1952. in relationship

  1953. to the

  1954. missions and

  1955. in relationship

  1956. to bringing

  1957. in people

  1958. and to

  1959. reach out

  1960. to those

  1961. in this

  1962. community

  1963. and around

  1964. Nebraska

  1965. and even

  1966. in Iowa

  1967. the gospel

  1968. of the Lord

  1969. Jesus Christ.

  1970. Let's pray.

  1971. Father, we

  1972. come before

  1973. you.

  1974. We want to

  1975. thank you,

  1976. Lord, for

  1977. your blessings

  1978. and your

  1979. mercy and

  1980. your grace.

  1981. And Father,

  1982. I pray that

  1983. your will

  1984. will have

  1985. a free

  1986. course.

  1987. I pray that

  1988. you'll touch

  1989. hearts.

  1990. Lord, the

  1991. greatest need

  1992. that I have

  1993. is Jesus.

  1994. Lord, the

  1995. greatest need

  1996. that others

  1997. have is

  1998. Jesus.

  1999. my family,

  2000. my friends,

  2001. my neighbors,

  2002. my fellow

  2003. countrymen.

  2004. This world

  2005. needs Jesus

  2006. Christ more

  2007. than anything

  2008. else that we

  2009. can offer.

  2010. Father, I

  2011. pray that you

  2012. give us a

  2013. passion to

  2014. have all

  2015. our energy

  2016. devoted to

  2017. making Christ

  2018. known among

  2019. the heathen.

  2020. For it's in

  2021. his name we

  2022. pray.

  2023. Amen.

  2024. Thank you.
