  1. Take our Bibles here this evening and turn over to 2 Chronicles chapter 31.

    2 Chronicles 31 chapter mention

  2. ! And so we'll find 2 Chronicles chapter 31 tonight.

    2 Chronicles 31 chapter mention

  3. !

  4. Because we know the days of Hezekiah were filled with blessings.

  5. But you know, like anybody's days, they're also filled with challenges.

  6. You know, oftentimes I think we forget that God can give us seasons of blessings,

  7. but also there's going to be seasons that come with challenges.

  8. There's going to be things that come into our life that are sometimes put to test to our faith.

  9. And we're going to look at a test of faith here tonight in the life of Hezekiah and for the children of Israel.

  10. Because those are the moments that make the difference in your life,

  11. is when, not when things are going good, but when things are not going well.

  12. When things are struggling, when things that don't make sense sometimes, you know,

  13. sometimes when you don't have that answer of why something is happening,

  14. is some of the greatest challenges.

  15. And that's when we have things of doubt and we have things of fear that creep in.

  16. And how we respond to that is important in our life.

  17. And we're going to look here tonight at Hezekiah.

  18. And we're going to see some things about his life here tonight that might help us.

  19. Because if you remember the first part of Hezekiah's reign, he right out of the gate,

  20. he organized the house of God.

  21. He got everything back in order.

  22. Got the priests lined up.

  23. The people had a revival after the Passover celebration.

  24. You know, lives were changed.

  25. And they put away the gods that they'd been worshiping and sought the Lord himself.

  26. And we see all these things taking place.

  27. And the Passover was restored in the land that hadn't been accomplished for a long time.

  28. And we know the Bible tells us that Hezekiah saw blessings both, you might say, politically or socially, but also spiritually.

  29. And there was a great blessing upon the land.

  30. And here in 2 Kings chapter 18, let's take a look down here in verse 18 here tonight.

    2 Kings 18 chapter mention

  31. As we see in verse 7, as we get here tonight, it tells us this.

  32. It says,

  33. You know, we see that Hezekiah enjoyed political gain.

  34. But we see also, if you turn over to chapter 31 of 2 Chronicles here, we find also down in verse 20,

  35. the Word of God tells us this.

  36. And it says,

  37. You know, we see something here from Hezekiah that his faith in God was strong by the choices and the actions that he did.

  38. And so, let's pray here as we start our lesson here tonight.

  39. Heavenly Fathers, we just come before you tonight, Lord, as we see the test of faith.

  40. And Lord, even the test of our faith in our life, Lord, there's things that are going to challenge our trust in you and our faith in you.

  41. Lord, we pray Jesus would work upon each heart, each life might be encouraged and strengthened, Lord,

  42. even in those moments to say, Lord, we keep our eyes upon you.

  43. And Lord, we pray Jesus would work in a mighty way, might be encouraged and strengthened as we meet together here this evening.

  44. Lord, we just give you all the praise in Jesus' name.

  45. Amen.

  46. You know, we see here that the Hezekiah, in his time, he had seen why he was having blessing,

  47. and God was working in the lives of people and in his life, the decisions he made.

  48. We know the northern tribes during that time because the king of Assyria had come in at the fourth year of Hezekiah's reign.

  49. And in the seventh year, he conquered Samaria and took all the northern tribes captive.

  50. You know, he took them out and away, and we see they were exiled.

  51. And it was really a vivid testimony of God's accountability and judgment upon those that had rejected him.

  52. Because flip back in 2 Kings chapter 18 here tonight, and we'll look down at verse 11 here in chapter 18

    2 Kings 18 chapter mention

  53. as we set the stage here for this tonight.

  54. Because we see here in verse 11,

  55. the king of Assyria did carry away Israel into Assyria and put them in Halah, in the harbor, in the river of Gozan,

  56. in the city of the Medes, because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord their God,

  57. but transgressed his covenant and all that Moses, the servant of the Lord, commanded,

  58. and would not hear them nor do them.

  59. And so we see here that the children of Israel, that had separated out from Judah,

  60. they made a choice to turn their back on the things of God.

  61. To say, we're not going to trust God.

  62. Now, I want you to understand, as we've talked about,

  63. because sometimes trusting God is kind of this, people put it on a scale,

  64. where really God doesn't put our trust on a scale as far as,

  65. okay, I'm going to trust him this much.

  66. You know what God says?

  67. He wants you all in.

  68. But oftentimes we try to separate or segregate it out,

  69. and we see that even in lives of people today,

  70. where they say, well, I'll trust God in this area of my life, but not this one.

  71. And the children of Israel, one of the things that they suffered from the northern kingdom,

  72. it's not that they didn't understand there was a God that brought them out,

  73. it's they wanted to do things their own way,

  74. incorporate their own things, and serve God the way they wanted to,

  75. instead of the way God prescribed it to come about.

  76. And we see this as a very important, as we see here tonight,

  77. this dynamic, they refused the covenant,

  78. and this was in the middle of Hezekiah's reign in the beginning of it,

  79. and then we find in the middle Hezekiah faced the test.

  80. The Bible tells us in his 14th year of his reign.

  81. Now, we know Hezekiah reigned for 29 years.

  82. That's what the Bible tells us.

  83. So, the 14th year would be right about smack dab in the middle of that time frame.

  84. And so, things have been going very good for him.

  85. Remember, he had thrown off the yoke of the Assyrians.

  86. He wasn't paying them tribute.

  87. He had been able to subdue the Philistines and others.

  88. He was thriving.

  89. The nation of Judah was thriving.

  90. Things were going well.

  91. Everybody was comfortable, you might say,

  92. in the blessings that God had given.

  93. But now, we come to this 14th year and the Assyrians return.

  94. The Assyrians returned to the land,

  95. desiring to finish what they'd started seven years before.

  96. Because remember, seven years before,

  97. they had taken Samaria and all that region and put them into exile.

  98. Now, we know that now they come with the intent of capturing Jerusalem and Judah and doing the same thing.

  99. And we see this happening here.

  100. And Sennacherib was now the king of Assyria.

  101. He arrives with a mighty army that had conquered the people and cities.

  102. And as we're going to look here tonight,

  103. Sennacherib had a pride issue in the fact he said,

  104. I'm greater than the gods of the land.

  105. And we're going to see he treats the God of Israel,

  106. he treats the God that created heaven and earth in the same manner.

  107. He's lifted up with pride,

  108. thinking I can accomplish all these things on my own means.

  109. And we're going to see how God works through these things,

  110. even in the life of Hezekiah and in the life of the people of Israel.

  111. And so when he comes and begins to lay siege to the land,

  112. it becomes a test.

  113. A test of faith of Hezekiah and the people.

  114. Do you really trust me?

  115. You know, the one thing,

  116. if you don't have to be saved very long to realize,

  117. it's easy to trust God when things are going easy.

  118. A true trust in God happens when it's tested.

  119. There's a test that comes,

  120. and we need to understand this dynamic of a test of faith,

  121. because your faith is easy to say you trust God when things are going well.

  122. You know, think about Job.

  123. Turn back to Job for a moment.

  124. Job chapter 1.

    Job 1 chapter mention

  125. And we see here in the life of Job,

  126. because this is one of the accusations that the devil threw

  127. at God about Job.

  128. You know?

  129. Think about what he says here in Job chapter 1 and verse 9.

    Job 1 chapter mention

  130. The Bible says this.

  131. It says,

  132. And Satan answered the Lord and said,

  133. Doth Job fear God for naught?

  134. Hast not thou made a hedge about him and about his house,

  135. and all that he hath on every side?

  136. Hast thou blessed the work of his hand,

  137. and his substance is increased in the land?

  138. You know?

  139. If you read that chapter 1 of Job,

  140. you'll find out the devil's accusing Job of saying,

  141. Job serves you just because you do all these good things for him.

  142. Because you've blessed him, does he serve you?

  143. And the accusation is,

  144. if you take it all away, he'll curse you.

  145. You know what that is?

  146. That's a test of faith that Job was being put through.

  147. You know, I don't think anybody here,

  148. if you've read the book of Job,

  149. wants to be tested of your faith like Job was tested.

  150. You know?

  151. I wouldn't wish what Job went through on somebody I didn't like.

  152. But Job went through that challenge.

  153. God put him through a test of faith,

  154. and we know that Job's faith was greater than what God's blessings were.

  155. He didn't trust God because he blessed him.

  156. He trusted God because of who God is.

  157. That's the difference that we see,

  158. and we even need to look at in our own lives.

  159. Because such as Hezekiah,

  160. God had blessed him greatly,

  161. and now we see a test that God allowed,

  162. was that of Assyria.

  163. Hezekiah is said to let his fear of man direct his course of actions.

  164. We're going to see this tonight,

  165. that when initially come,

  166. he's distracted by the things,

  167. or the fear overcomes him.

  168. You know, sometimes when something comes suddenly,

  169. fear comes with it.

  170. When the unknown happens or hits you,

  171. when you don't realize what's going on in life,

  172. or life situations turn life upside down.

  173. I mean, when the Assyrians came into the land,

  174. it had been rumored for a long time

  175. as they had conquered people.

  176. In other words, it wasn't like,

  177. oh, the Assyrians are here.

  178. No, it's like, no, the Assyrians are here.

  179. And everybody knew why.

  180. And everybody knew what was going to take place.

  181. And it was, as you read through this passage,

  182. you'll find out that basically they besieged cities

  183. until people were willing to do horrible and horrific things

  184. just to survive.

  185. And we see this dynamic taking place.

  186. But we find here in 2 Kings chapter 18.

    2 Kings 18 chapter mention

  187. Take a look with me tonight,

  188. because we see, look down at verse 13.

  189. It says,

  190. Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah,

  191. did Sennacherib, king of Assyria,

  192. come up against all the cities of Judah,

  193. and took them.

  194. And Hezekiah, king of Judah,

  195. sent to the king of Assyria, to Lachish,

  196. saying, I have offended.

  197. Return from me.

  198. That which thou puttest on me I will bear.

  199. And the king of Assyria pointed unto Hezekiah,

  200. king of Judah,

  201. three hundred talents of silver,

  202. and three hundred talents of gold.

  203. And Hezekiah gave him all the silver

  204. that was found in the house of the Lord,

  205. and in the treasuries of the king's house.

  206. And at the time did Hezekiah cut up the gold

  207. from the doors of the temple of the Lord,

  208. and from the pillars which Hezekiah,

  209. king of Judah, had overlaid,

  210. and gave it to the king of Assyria.

  211. Now think about this for a moment.

  212. What happened?

  213. Here's Hezekiah.

  214. His faith in God had transformed the nation.

  215. The Assyrians had come and captured

  216. all the cities outside of Jerusalem.

  217. What's Hezekiah's first response?

  218. He responds in fear.

  219. What's he do?

  220. He sends a messenger.

  221. I'm sorry.

  222. I'll pay you whatever you want.

  223. And we see a man who opened the house of God,

  224. take from the offerings people had given to God,

  225. because of his fear.

  226. The fear of man is a devastating thing.

  227. When we allow others to take things that happen,

  228. and we see this coming about,

  229. as Hezekiah sends messengers to Sennacherib,

  230. desiring terms, basically,

  231. to fall back under their oppression,

  232. just as his father had been under.

  233. Remember, at the beginning of his reign,

  234. he threw that off.

  235. He hadn't been paying tribute to him.

  236. He said, I serve God,

  237. and we're not going to be subject unto you.

  238. He'd done that for 14 years.

  239. Now Assyria returns,

  240. and he has a knee-jerk reaction.

  241. You know what fear does?

  242. Sometimes it gives us knee-jerk reactions.

  243. We respond,

  244. because we'll notice something here.

  245. When fear took over,

  246. instead of going to the Lord,

  247. what'd he do?

  248. He did,

  249. what's my solution?

  250. How do I solve the problem?

  251. How do I buy my way out of this?

  252. You know,

  253. that's not much different than people today.

  254. When something tragic happens in life,

  255. you know what?

  256. Most Americans do,

  257. the first thing they do is check their checkbook.

  258. How can I cover this?

  259. Where do we get the resources from?

  260. You know,

  261. do I have enough money to handle the problem?

  262. We look to the wrong thing,

  263. don't we?

  264. Because there's nothing wrong

  265. with God blessing you with resources.

  266. The problem comes

  267. when those resources become our solution

  268. instead of God becoming our solution,

  269. God maintaining,

  270. being the solution.

  271. We see here that

  272. as the Assyrians come,

  273. you say,

  274. well,

  275. why did he capitulate so quickly?

  276. You know,

  277. he remembered what happened to Samaria.

  278. And only seven years earlier,

  279. Samaria wasn't that far away.

  280. Trust me,

  281. he knew exactly what happened to the city,

  282. and what took place.

  283. And I think he let fear

  284. cause a reaction.

  285. You know,

  286. when we're scared,

  287. sometimes we do things

  288. we wouldn't do otherwise.

  289. But you know what?

  290. When we trust God,

  291. we have to slow down

  292. and understand exactly

  293. what's taking place.

  294. Because in this moment

  295. of where fear distracted him,

  296. he goes and tells the king,

  297. oh,

  298. I'm sorry,

  299. I'm offended.

  300. I've offended you.

  301. What can I do?

  302. And that puts a large

  303. tribute upon him.

  304. And so he goes back

  305. and starts stripping the gold

  306. off the walls

  307. of the house of God.

  308. Takes the silver

  309. out of the offerings

  310. that people had given.

  311. And he gives it

  312. unto them.

  313. Because notice here

  314. what's happening.

  315. Look down

  316. in the verse,

  317. the next verse here,

  318. as we look down

  319. in verse 14,

  320. or back up in 14.

  321. Notice what appointed

  322. Hezekiah,

  323. the king of Judah,

  324. 300 talents of silver

  325. and 30 talents of gold.

  326. Now let me tell you,

  327. that's a lot.

  328. That's tons of both.

  329. Hezekiah is going

  330. to try to pay it.

  331. But I want you

  332. to understand

  333. that fear,

  334. we have to be careful

  335. because fear

  336. can be a motivator

  337. for good

  338. or fear can be

  339. a motivator for bad.

  340. How we deal

  341. with our fear

  342. in those moments

  343. is.

  344. Now let me rephrase

  345. because you might

  346. look at fear

  347. in other ways,

  348. insecurity.

  349. When we feel insecure

  350. it's because we're scared.

  351. Because something in life

  352. has knocked us off.

  353. Hezekiah didn't,

  354. life had turned

  355. upside down suddenly

  356. when Assyria came in,

  357. took the cities.

  358. You know,

  359. you think about it,

  360. here's a king,

  361. he's been blessed

  362. and all of a sudden

  363. God allows him

  364. to take all these cities

  365. around him.

  366. Look over to Proverbs

    Proverbs 29 chapter mention

  367. chapter 29

  368. for a moment.

  369. Proverbs chapter 29

    Proverbs 29 chapter mention

  370. and verse 25.

  371. Notice what the word

  372. of God tells us

  373. here tonight

  374. because this is important

  375. because look what Proverbs,

  376. very simple Proverbs

  377. of Solomon.

  378. It says,

  379. the fear of man

  380. bringeth what?

  381. A snare.

  382. But whoso putteth

  383. his trust in the Lord

  384. shall be safe.

  385. This verse applies

  386. to Hezekiah

  387. as we're going to

  388. look at it tonight.

  389. Because Hezekiah

  390. is the epitome

  391. of both of them.

  392. You know what?

  393. Sometimes we can be

  394. the epitome

  395. of both of them.

  396. When we allow

  397. circumstances of life

  398. to dictate,

  399. but the good thing is,

  400. the question is,

  401. do you come to your senses

  402. about what you really

  403. need to trust

  404. and who you can trust?

  405. We're going to find

  406. that Hezekiah

  407. didn't remain fearful

  408. but he did respond

  409. with fear.

  410. You know,

  411. people can respond

  412. with fear,

  413. you know.

  414. Think about some other

  415. examples in Scripture.

  416. Who are some others

  417. you can think of

  418. that responded in fear?

  419. Within a few chapters

  420. of Genesis,

  421. you have a couple people.

  422. One's Abraham.

  423. Oh no,

  424. she's my sister.

  425. Why did he respond

  426. that way?

  427. That was based out

  428. of what?

  429. Fear.

  430. A few decades later,

  431. his own son shows

  432. back up

  433. and Isaac with Rebekah

  434. and what happens?

  435. She's my sister.

  436. Why did they do that?

  437. It was out of what?

  438. Fear.

  439. You know,

  440. I want you to understand

  441. that sometimes

  442. we fear

  443. and security,

  444. why were they scared?

  445. Because they didn't

  446. feel secure.

  447. They said,

  448. God can't really

  449. handle the situation

  450. is what they thought.

  451. Even in our own lives

  452. oftentimes,

  453. we can be caught

  454. very quickly

  455. when something happens

  456. instead of stopping

  457. and saying,

  458. in whom do I place

  459. my trust here?

  460. Is it in myself?

  461. Because fear oftentimes

  462. as we see Hezekiah,

  463. we see Abraham,

  464. we see Isaac.

  465. What was the fear?

  466. It's how do I survive

  467. myself?

  468. How do I use

  469. what I have

  470. to accomplish it

  471. instead of

  472. what has God done?

  473. You know,

  474. we see here

  475. that when fear comes,

  476. we need to keep our guard

  477. because in the moment

  478. of fear,

  479. we can lose sight

  480. of the Lord

  481. and respond in fear

  482. and not faith.

  483. You know,

  484. because I want you

  485. to understand,

  486. I'm not looking down

  487. on Hezekiah

  488. because you know what?

  489. Every one of us

  490. is guilty

  491. of the same thing

  492. Hezekiah did.

  493. Where we can seem

  494. overwhelmed

  495. and let fear dictate

  496. instead of faith.

  497. Because look what

  498. the Scripture tells us

  499. for us today.

  500. Look over to Romans

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  501. chapter 8.

  502. You know,

  503. Romans chapter 8,

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  504. look here in verse 15.

  505. Because if you're

  506. a child of God today,

  507. God has given you

  508. something.

  509. God has given us

  510. His Spirit.

  511. Notice what Romans

  512. 8, 15 says,

  513. For ye have not

  514. received the Spirit

  515. of bondage again

  516. to what?

  517. Fear,

  518. but have received

  519. the Spirit

  520. of adoption

  521. whereby we cry

  522. Abba, Father.

  523. You know what it is?

  524. It's like,

  525. hey, when I'm scared

  526. I can go to Dad.

  527. That's the picture.

  528. You know what

  529. little kids do?

  530. What do little kids

  531. do when they're scared?

  532. They go to Dad.

  533. Or they go to a parent.

  534. They go to that

  535. one that they have what?

  536. Trust.

  537. That they trust in Him.

  538. Look a little later.

  539. Go to 2 Timothy chapter 1.

    2 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  540. 2 Timothy chapter 1.

    2 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  541. Look at verse 7.

  542. You know,

  543. these are things

  544. that we need to keep

  545. in our mind

  546. because I want you

  547. to understand

  548. it's easy to respond

  549. in fear sometimes.

  550. Fear of what

  551. other people think.

  552. Fear of how other people

  553. are going to respond.

  554. Or fear because

  555. of how somebody responded.

  556. Those things

  557. all drive us.

  558. Notice what here

  559. in 2 Timothy chapter 1

    2 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  560. and verse 7.

  561. For God

  562. has not given us

  563. the spirit of what?

  564. Fear,

  565. but of power

  566. and a love

  567. of a sound mind.

  568. Because I want you

  569. to see here's

  570. Hezekiah

  571. paying out

  572. to the king

  573. of Assyria

  574. in fear.

  575. But now look

  576. at verse 17

  577. because

  578. there's a change

  579. happens between

  580. 16 and 17.

  581. And we'll look

  582. and see.

  583. But look at verse 17.

  584. It says this,

  585. And the king of Assyria

  586. sent Tartan

  587. and Rabish

  588. from Lachish

  589. to King Hezekiah

  590. with a great host

  591. against Jerusalem.

  592. And they went

  593. and came up to Jerusalem

  594. and when they were come up

  595. they came and stood

  596. by the conduit

  597. of the upper pool

  598. which is in the highway

  599. of the fuller's field.

  600. And when they had

  601. called to the king

  602. there came out

  603. one Elkema

  604. the son of Hezekiah

  605. which was over

  606. the household

  607. and Shebna

  608. the scribe

  609. and Joah

  610. the son of As

  611. the recorder.

  612. And Rosheth

  613. said unto them

  614. speak ye now

  615. to Hezekiah

  616. thus saith the great king

  617. the king of Assyria

  618. what confidence

  619. is there therein

  620. thou trustest?

  621. I want you to understand

  622. there's something

  623. changed here

  624. because Hezekiah

  625. had been sending him

  626. the tribute

  627. in verse 16

  628. and in verse 17

  629. Shennacherib

  630. sends his servants

  631. to say

  632. why hasn't it showed up?

  633. Why hasn't it all

  634. been delivered?

  635. He says

  636. who are you trusting in?

  637. Why would he ask

  638. that question?

  639. Well I think

  640. as we're going to

  641. look at what

  642. happens here tonight

  643. something changed.

  644. Things in the life

  645. of Hezekiah

  646. changed

  647. because Hezekiah

  648. went from operating

  649. in fear of the moment

  650. back to focusing

  651. upon God.

  652. There was a change

  653. in his life

  654. we find there's a change

  655. that had taken place

  656. and an Assyrian king

  657. now sends messengers

  658. to Jerusalem

  659. a declaration

  660. not to trust

  661. in the Lord God

  662. of Hezekiah.

  663. We're going to look here

  664. because there's something

  665. that changed

  666. in this situation

  667. as you find

  668. a little later

  669. I think

  670. because Hezekiah

  671. had another life

  672. changing situation.

  673. Look a little later

  674. look over there

  675. to chapter 20

  676. in 2 Kings.

  677. I want you to understand

  678. 2 Kings here

  679. is not all in

  680. chronological order

  681. on some of these

  682. because you said

  683. at that time

  684. where you'll find

  685. these other phrases

  686. here as we look

  687. in chapter 20

  688. notice what it says

  689. here in chapter 20

  690. in verse 1

  691. it says

  692. in those days

  693. in other words

  694. while this other

  695. was happening

  696. over here

  697. this took place.

  698. Doesn't that sound

  699. like life?

  700. You've got problems

  701. over here

  702. and you've got problems

  703. over here.

  704. Wouldn't it be nice

  705. if you only had

  706. one problem at a time?

  707. The reality is

  708. life is filled

  709. with what?

  710. Lots of problems.

  711. Hezekiah had a problem.

  712. Notice what happens here.

  713. It says

  714. in those days

  715. was Hezekiah

  716. sick unto death

  717. and the prophet Isaiah

  718. the son of Amos

  719. came to him

  720. and said unto him

  721. thus saith the Lord

  722. now think about

  723. this conversation

  724. the prophet brings him

  725. you know

  726. this is always good news

  727. this is not

  728. hospital etiquette

  729. let me tell you.

  730. You know

  731. you don't show up

  732. at the hospital visit

  733. and say

  734. set your house

  735. in order

  736. you're going to die

  737. but notice what

  738. he says there

  739. he does exactly that

  740. set your house

  741. in order

  742. for thou shalt die

  743. and not live

  744. you know

  745. in those days

  746. Hezekiah became sick

  747. Isaiah comes to him

  748. and tells him

  749. get things arranged

  750. because you're not

  751. making it.

  752. I want you to understand

  753. we know this was

  754. in the same year

  755. that Assyria came

  756. because Assyria came

  757. what?

  758. In the 14th year

  759. now I'm telling you

  760. the rest of the story

  761. this is kind of like

  762. that Paul Harvey moment

  763. you know

  764. where you tell

  765. the rest of the story

  766. some of the older ones

  767. know who Paul Harvey is

  768. maybe some of the younger ones

  769. don't

  770. he always had to show

  771. that that was just saying

  772. now for the rest

  773. of the story

  774. the end of the story

  775. with Hezekiah

  776. in regard to this

  777. is God gives him

  778. another 15 years

  779. of life

  780. now it doesn't take

  781. a major math person

  782. to figure out

  783. if you're in the 14th year

  784. and you're getting 15 years

  785. you got a 29 year reign

  786. what year did this

  787. take place?

  788. in the 14th year

  789. the same year

  790. that the Assyrians came

  791. so we need to ask

  792. what changed

  793. well what changed

  794. as Hezekiah got sick?

  795. we don't know

  796. what the sickness was

  797. but we know

  798. that God sent

  799. the prophet to him

  800. and said

  801. hey

  802. you're not going

  803. to make it

  804. and we see

  805. Hezekiah

  806. change a direction

  807. to get back

  808. on track

  809. look at verse 2

  810. of chapter 20

  811. it says

  812. then he turned

  813. his face to the wall

  814. and prayed unto the Lord

  815. saying

  816. did you notice

  817. something in the first part

  818. where he was operating

  819. in fear

  820. what didn't happen?

  821. he never prayed once

  822. he didn't ask God

  823. is this what should I do?

  824. he just tried to solve

  825. his fear problem

  826. by what he possessed

  827. how can I buy myself

  828. out of the problem?

  829. I want you to understand

  830. the things that people

  831. do in today's culture

  832. is no different

  833. than people used to do

  834. how can I buy things out?

  835. you know

  836. think about the problems

  837. we have today

  838. I mean you hear that

  839. all the time

  840. government will solve it

  841. if you just give them

  842. what?

  843. more money

  844. you know

  845. there's a lot of things

  846. in life

  847. you don't solve

  848. with money

  849. because it doesn't matter

  850. whether you're rich

  851. or poor

  852. it's not going to

  853. be a solution

  854. you know what

  855. when the doctor

  856. shows up

  857. and says

  858. you're not going

  859. to live very long

  860. it doesn't matter

  861. how much money

  862. you have

  863. you're in trouble

  864. you can't buy

  865. yourself out of it

  866. and we see here

  867. Hezekiah's response

  868. was praying to the Lord

  869. look here at verse 3

  870. it says

  871. he said this

  872. I beseech thee

  873. O Lord

  874. remember now

  875. how I have walked

  876. before thee in truth

  877. and with a perfect heart

  878. and have done that

  879. which is good

  880. in thy sight

  881. and Hezekiah

  882. wept sore

  883. now I want you to understand

  884. when you see how this

  885. plays out

  886. and you understand

  887. other principles

  888. from scripture

  889. I think Hezekiah

  890. realized

  891. what he'd done

  892. when it says

  893. he wept sore

  894. he realized

  895. that yeah

  896. I had been walking

  897. with God

  898. but now I wasn't

  899. I had been

  900. but now I'm not

  901. you know what

  902. sometimes one decision

  903. in life changes course

  904. Hezekiah had a course

  905. correction

  906. because we're going to

  907. see from this point

  908. Hezekiah changed

  909. from fear

  910. back to faith

  911. it took faith

  912. to do what he did

  913. at the beginning

  914. but you know what

  915. sometimes we can get

  916. coasting along

  917. and forget that

  918. faith is still important

  919. of trusting God

  920. so we see here

  921. notice what takes place

  922. Isaiah had come

  923. and notice how quick

  924. God responds

  925. in this situation

  926. look at verse 4

  927. it came to pass

  928. afore Isaiah was gone

  929. out in the middle

  930. of the court

  931. that the word of the

  932. Lord came to him

  933. saying

  934. turn again

  935. and tell Hezekiah

  936. the captive of my people

  937. thus saith the Lord

  938. the Lord God of David

  939. thy father

  940. I have heard thy prayer

  941. and have seen thy tears

  942. behold I will heal thee

  943. on the third day

  944. thou shalt go up

  945. to the house of the Lord

  946. and I will add unto thee

  947. fifteen years

  948. and I will deliver thee

  949. in this city

  950. out of the hand

  951. of the king of Assyria

  952. and I will defend

  953. this city

  954. for mine own sake

  955. and for my servant

  956. David's sake

  957. and think about

  958. God's promise

  959. to Hezekiah

  960. He says

  961. number one

  962. you're going to get better

  963. number two

  964. He says

  965. in three days

  966. you're going to be

  967. well enough

  968. to go stand

  969. and go to the temple

  970. to worship me

  971. He says

  972. and then don't worry

  973. because I'm going to

  974. defend Jerusalem

  975. that's some big promises

  976. isn't it

  977. I mean

  978. God came to him

  979. and made him

  980. some big promises

  981. remember

  982. what was his health condition

  983. he was what

  984. going to

  985. die

  986. in three days

  987. he's going to be up

  988. and walking

  989. being able to walk

  990. into the house of God

  991. and worship the Lord again

  992. and God says

  993. don't worry Hezekiah

  994. I've got this

  995. He said

  996. Hezekiah

  997. don't operate in fear

  998. but operate in faith

  999. because we're going to see

  1000. why did

  1001. Snackarib send people

  1002. to Jerusalem

1003. because there was a change

  1004. Hezekiah said

  1005. yeah I messed up

1006. but there's going to be

  1007. a course correction

1008. I'm not going to be

  1009. operating in fear

  1010. I'm going to operate

  1011. in faith

  1012. I'm going to operate

  1013. I'm going to trust

  1014. the Lord

  1015. in these things

  1016. and you know

  1017. the answer that

  1018. Hezekiah received

  1019. was great

  1020. it was a wonderful

  1021. response

  1022. it's great to know

  1023. that God can handle

  1024. any crisis

  1025. in your life

  1026. no matter the situation

  1027. yet it's important

  1028. to note

  1029. that when we find

  1030. ourselves in these

  1031. situations

  1032. we have a responsibility

  1033. to pray

  1034. to turn our face

  1035. towards Him

1036. to cry out to Him

  1037. if we genuinely

  1038. want to turn

1039. our life over to God

  1040. you know what

  1041. God responds

  1042. to genuine

  1043. repentance

  1044. and humility

  1045. before Him

  1046. the Bible tells us

  1047. if you come humbly

  1048. before God

  1049. He will no way

  1050. reject you

  1051. a humble spirit

  1052. says I realize

  1053. who I am

  1054. and I realize

  1055. who you are

  1056. and when we

  1057. understand who God

  1058. is and His authority

  1059. you know

1060. if we turn our life

  1061. over to Him

  1062. you know

1063. I want you to understand

  1064. this case

  1065. He miraculously healed

1066. but I want you to

  1067. understand

  1068. sometimes God

  1069. gives you strength

  1070. to walk through

  1071. the situation

  1072. you know

  1073. there was a lot

  1074. of strength

  1075. needed

  1076. not just physically

  1077. but Hezekiah

  1078. had to trust God

1079. for what was to come

  1080. and God told him

  1081. He was going to

  1082. defend the city

  1083. and Hezekiah

  1084. is going

  1085. I have no idea

  1086. how this is going

  1087. to happen

  1088. I have no concept

  1089. of how you're going

  1090. to do this

1091. He just had a promise

  1092. from God

  1093. that God would

  1094. defend the city

  1095. and as we read

  1096. through this

1097. you're going to find out

  1098. God did something

  1099. miraculous

  1100. that put fear

  1101. even in the nations

  1102. around him

  1103. and Hezekiah

  1104. trusted God

  1105. God didn't give

  1106. Hezekiah

  1107. a great

  1108. military victory

  1109. in the sense

  1110. of Hezekiah

  1111. didn't go out

  1112. and face him

  1113. in battle

  1114. as you're going

  1115. to find a little

  1116. later

  1117. as you read

  1118. through this

  1119. passage

  1120. God got involved

  1121. and the Assyrians

  1122. decided it was

  1123. time to go home

  1124. because the mighty

  1125. army that had

  1126. crushed all the

  1127. other gods

  1128. found out

  1129. that the God

  1130. could take care

  1131. of himself

  1132. you know

  1133. sometimes we

  1134. forget that

  1135. the Lord God

  1136. of heaven

  1137. doesn't need us

  1138. to defend him

  1139. he is more

  1140. than capable

  1141. sometimes I think

  1142. we need to

  1143. keep that in mind

  1144. as we work

  1145. through

  1146. but you know

  1147. look over to

  1148. Psalm 91

  1149. for a moment

  1150. Psalm 91

  1151. look at verse 1

  1152. the Bible tells us

  1153. this

  1154. he says

  1155. he that dwelleth

  1156. in the secret

  1157. place of the

  1158. Most High

  1159. shall abide

  1160. under the shadow

  1161. of the Almighty

  1162. I will say

  1163. of the Lord

  1164. He is my refuge

  1165. and my fortress

  1166. my God

  1167. in Him

  1168. will I

  1169. trust

  1170. you know

  1171. a prayer

  1172. that God

  1173. heard and

  1174. answered clearly

  1175. for him

  1176. even giving him

  1177. a sign

  1178. you know

  1179. God says

  1180. hey

  1181. three days

  1182. you're going

  1183. to get up

  1184. and go

  1185. into the temple

  1186. and Hezekiah

  1187. goes

  1188. well I want

  1189. a sign

  1190. so God

  1191. moves the sun

  1192. in the sky

  1193. back

  1194. you know

  1195. we don't have

  1196. time to get

  1197. into all that

  1198. tonight

  1199. but I want you

  1200. to understand

  1201. that God

  1202. gave him a sign

  1203. I mean

  1204. you think about

  1205. that looking

  1206. for a sundial

  1207. if you ever

  1208. watch a sundial

  1209. you see the

  1210. shadow going

  1211. imagine

  1212. that day

  1213. the sundial's

  1214. going

1215. and all of a sudden

  1216. it goes

  1217. and everybody's

  1218. going

  1219. okay

  1220. it was distinct

  1221. there was no

  1222. question

  1223. something took

  1224. place

  1225. God gave him

  1226. a sign

  1227. and it's clear

  1228. that something

  1229. happened here

  1230. even in the

  1231. heart of the

  1232. king

  1233. between

  1234. 2nd Kings

  1235. 18

  1236. and verse

  1237. 17

  1238. so now

  1239. let's look over

  1240. to 2nd Chronicles

  1241. chapter 32

  1242. because here

  1243. in 2nd Chronicles

  1244. notice what

  1245. says

  1246. after these

  1247. things

  1248. at the

  1249. establishment

  1250. thereof

  1251. Sennacherib

  1252. king of

  1253. Assyria

  1254. came and

  1255. entered into

  1256. Judah

  1257. and encamped

  1258. against the

  1259. fenced cities

  1260. and thought

  1261. to win them

  1262. for himself

  1263. and when

  1264. Hezekiah saw

  1265. that Sennacherib

  1266. was come

  1267. he had purpose

  1268. to fight

  1269. against Jerusalem

  1270. he took

  1271. counsel

  1272. with his

  1273. princes

  1274. and his

  1275. mighty men

  1276. to stop

  1277. the waters

  1278. and the

  1279. fountains

  1280. which were

  1281. without the

  1282. city

  1283. and they

  1284. did help

  1285. him

  1286. so they

  1287. would gather

  1288. much people

  1289. together

  1290. who stopped

  1291. all the

  1292. fountains

  1293. and the

  1294. brook

  1295. that ran

  1296. through the

  1297. midst of

  1298. the land

  1299. saying

  1300. why should

  1301. the king

  1302. of Assyria

  1303. come and

  1304. find much

  1305. water

  1306. you know

  1307. I want

  1308. you to see

  1309. here

  1310. here's

  1311. the land's

  1312. changed

  1313. now I want

  1314. you to see

  1315. here there's

  1316. something distinct

  1317. because remember

  1318. originally

  1319. Sennacherib was

  1320. at Lachish

  1321. which is about

  1322. 30 miles south

  1323. this passage

  1324. says he actually

  1325. came up

  1326. towards Jerusalem

  1327. or at least

  1328. sent his army

  1329. up to actually

  1330. attack the city

  1331. so in other

  1332. words we see

  1333. this time frame

  1334. taking place

  1335. as he sends

  1336. his men

  1337. and the others

  1338. but I want

  1339. you to understand

  1340. he now takes

  1341. counsel with his

  1342. princes and

  1343. mighty men

  1344. and he takes

  1345. action because

  1346. he stops

  1347. the wells

  1348. out around

  1349. because he's

  1350. basically saying

  1351. why should we

  1352. give the enemy

  1353. water

  1354. you know

  1355. that's pretty

  1356. good logic

  1357. you know

  1358. you know

  1359. what we need

  1360. every day

  1361. water

  1362. you know

  1363. how hard it

  1364. is to keep

  1365. a large army

  1366. in the ancient

  1367. world with

  1368. water

  1369. that was a

  1370. task to

  1371. itself

  1372. he says

  1373. we're not

  1374. going to

  1375. just let

  1376. them come

  1377. in

  1378. now look

  1379. down at

  1380. verse 7

  1381. of chapter

  1382. 32

  1383. and he

  1384. says this

  1385. as he

  1386. sets over

  1387. them

  1388. and he

  1389. says

  1390. verse 7

  1391. be strong

  1392. and courageous

  1393. be not

  1394. afraid

  1395. nor dismayed

  1396. for the

  1397. king of

  1398. Assyria

  1399. nor for

  1400. all the

  1401. multitude

  1402. that was

  1403. with him

  1404. for there

  1405. be more

  1406. with us

  1407. than with

  1408. him

  1409. and with

  1410. him is

  1411. an arm

  1412. of flesh

  1413. but with

  1414. us is

  1415. the lord

  1416. our god

  1417. to help

  1418. us

  1419. and to

  1420. fight

  1421. our

  1422. battles

  1423. and the

  1424. people

  1425. rested

  1426. themselves

  1427. upon

  1428. the

  1429. word

  1430. of

  1431. Hezekiah

  1432. king

  1433. of

  1434. Judah

  1435. now

  1436. I want

  1437. you

  1438. to

  1439. understand

  1440. there's

  1441. a lot

  1442. contained

  1443. right there

  1444. because

  1445. Hezekiah

  1446. makes a

  1447. declaration

  1448. he says

  1449. I don't

  1450. know how

  1451. God's

  1452. going to

  1453. do

  1454. it

  1455. but he

  1456. says

  1457. I know

  1458. God

  1459. has

  1460. more

  1461. with

  1462. him

  1463. than

  1464. the

  1465. Assyrians

  1466. have

  1467. let's

  1468. ask your

  1469. Bible

  1470. trivia

  1471. where

  1472. did

  1473. you get

  1474. that

  1475. idea

  1476. he got

  1477. over

  1478. in

  1479. 2nd

  1480. Kings

  1481. chapter

  1482. 6

  1483. remember

  1484. the

  1485. prophet

  1486. Elisha

  1487. when they

  1488. came out

  1489. after

  1490. Elisha

  1491. and

  1492. Elisha

  1493. servants

  1494. trembling

  1495. in his

  1496. boots

  1497. going

  1498. hey

  1499. do you

  1500. see all

  1501. these

  1502. people

  1503. around

  1504. Elisha

  1505. goes

  1506. they're

  1507. outnumbered

  1508. you know

  1509. 2nd

  1510. Kings

  1511. 6

  1512. 16

  1513. Elisha

  1514. answered

  1515. his

  1516. servant

  1517. and said

  1518. this

  1519. fear

  1520. not

  1521. for

  1522. they

  1523. that

  1524. be

  1525. with

  1526. us

  1527. are

  1528. more

  1529. than

  1530. they

  1531. that

  1532. be

  1533. with

  1534. them

  1535. it

  1536. says

  1537. Elisha

  1538. prayed

  1539. and opened

  1540. his

  1541. eyes

  1542. the

  1543. servant

  1544. eyes

  1545. and they

  1546. saw

  1547. the

  1548. hills

  1549. filled

  1550. with

  1551. the

  1552. angels

  1553. of

  1554. the

  1555. Lord

  1556. now

  1557. when

  1558. you

  1559. study

  1560. that

  1561. out

  1562. that

  1563. ought

  1564. to

  1565. scare

  1566. you

  1567. because

  1568. you

  1569. understand

  1570. God

  1571. wiped

  1572. out

  1573. entire

  1574. armies

  1575. by

  1576. sending

  1577. one

  1578. angel

  1579. you

  1580. imagine

  1581. what

  1582. the

  1583. hills

  1584. filled

  1585. full

  1586. of

  1587. them

  1588. would

  1589. look

  1590. like

  1591. I

  1592. mean

  1593. you're

  1594. well

  1595. protected

  1596. you know

  1597. what the

  1598. king

  1599. said

  1600. he

  1601. said

  1602. guys

  1603. were

  1604. well

  1605. protected

  1606. !

  1607. because

  1608. God

  1609. with

  1610. God

  1611. there's

  1612. more

  1613. with

  1614. us

  1615. than

  1616. there

  1617. is

  1618. with

  1619. them

  1620. we

  1621. find

  1622. that

  1623. the

  1624. people

  1625. rested

  1626. upon

  1627. the

  1628. words

  1629. of

  1630. the

  1631. king

  1632. you

  1633. know

  1634. that's

  1635. a

  1636. powerful

  1637. statement

  1638. right

  1639. there

  1640. you know

  1641. what

  1642. that

  1643. let me

  1644. put it

  1645. out

  1646. to

  1647. you

  1648. it

  1649. says

  1650. the

  1651. people

  1652. trusted

  1653. God

  1654. and

  1655. they

  1656. trusted

  1657. what

  1658. Hezekiah

  1659. had

  1660. said

  1661. about

  1662. God

  1663. trust

  1664. makes

  1665. a

  1666. difference

  1667. doesn't

  1668. it

  1669. look

  1670. over

  1671. to

  1672. the

  1673. book

  1674. of

  1675. Isaiah

  1676. Isaiah

  1677. 41

  1678. look

  1679. down

  1680. in

  1681. verse

  1682. 10

  1683. that's

  1684. a

  1685. good

  1686. verse

  1687. to

  1688. remember

  1689. it

  1690. when

  1691. you're

  1692. afraid

  1693. one of

  1694. the

  1695. things

  1696. you

  1697. got to

  1698. keep

  1699. in

  1700. mind

  1701. is

  1702. who

  1703. do

  1704. I

  1705. trust

  1706. to

  1707. get

  1708. our

  1709. focus

  1710. on

  1711. the

  1712. right

  1713. thing

  1714. and

  1715. not

  1716. just

  1717. the

  1718. circumstance

  1719. but

  1720. upon

  1721. who

  1722. are

  1723. you

  1724. trusting

  1725. in

  1726. this

  1727. one

  1728. thing

  1729. you

  1730. can

  1731. count

  1732. on

  1733. is

  1734. if

  1735. you

  1736. declare

  1737. your

  1738. trust

  1739. in

  1740. the

  1741. Lord

  1742. God

  1743. is

  1744. going

  1745. to

  1746. come

  1747. through

  1748. look

  1749. at

  1750. Isaiah

    Isaiah 50:7

  1751. 50

  1752. verse

  1753. 7

  1754. it

  1755. says

  1756. for

  1757. the

  1758. Lord

  1759. God

  1760. will

  1761. help

  1762. me

  1763. therefore

  1764. shall

  1765. I

  1766. not

  1767. be

  1768. confounded

  1769. wherefore

  1770. have

  1771. I

  1772. set

  1773. my

  1774. face

  1775. like

  1776. a

  1777. flint

  1778. and

  1779. I

  1780. know

  1781. that

  1782. I

  1783. shall

  1784. not

  1785. be

  1786. ashamed

  1787. he

  1788. is

  1789. near

  1790. that

  1791. justifies

  1792. me

  1793. he

  1794. who

  1795. will

  1796. contend

  1797. with

  1798. me

  1799. let

  1800. us

  1801. stand

  1802. together

  1803. who

  1804. is

  1805. my

  1806. adversary

  1807. let

  1808. him

  1809. come

  1810. near

  1811. to

  1812. me

  1813. you

  1814. know

  1815. what

  1816. when

  1817. you're

  1818. !

  1819. with

  1820. God

  1821. there's

  1822. more

  1823. with

  1824. you

  1825. than

  1826. against

  1827. you

  1828. and

  1829. we're

  1830. going

  1831. to

  1832. see

  1833. this

  1834. because

  1835. we're

  1836. going

  1837. to

  1838. see

  1839. faith

  1840. is

  1841. going

  1842. to

  1843. be

  1844. challenged

  1845. because

  1846. yeah

  1847. he had

  1848. a

  1849. restored

  1850. faith

  1851. but

  1852. that

  1853. doesn't

  1854. mean

  1855. it's

  1856. still

  1857. not

  1858. going

  1859. to

  1860. come

  1861. without

  1862. a

  1863. challenge

  1864. it

  1865. wasn't

  1866. long

  1867. before

  1868. the

  1869. king

  1870. of

  1871. Assyria

  1872. sends

  1873. his

  1874. three

  1875. jokers

  1876. with the

  1877. message

  1878. to say

  1879. hey

  1880. don't

  1881. trust

  1882. in

  1883. Hezekiah

  1884. don't

  1885. trust

  1886. in

  1887. the

  1888. God

  1889. of

  1890. Hezekiah

  1891. you

  1892. know

  1893. take a

  1894. look

  1895. at

  1896. what

  1897. it

  1898. says

  1899. here

  1900. look

  1901. down

  1902. back

  1903. in

  1904. 2

  1905. Chronicles

  1906. 32

  1907. look

  1908. down

  1909. in

  1910. verse

  1911. 9

  1912. after

  1913. this

  1914. did

  1915. Sennacherib

  1916. king

  1917. of

  1918. Assyria

  1919. send

  1920. his

  1921. servants

  1922. to

  1923. Jerusalem

  1924. but

  1925. he

  1926. himself

  1927. laid

  1928. siege

  1929. against

  1930. Lachish

  1931. and

  1932. all

  1933. the

  1934. power

  1935. with

  1936. him

  1937. and

  1938. they

  1939. and

  1940. to

  1941. Hezekiah

  1942. king

  1943. of

  1944. Judah

  1945. and

  1946. all

  1947. Judah

  1948. and

  1949. they

  1950. were

  1951. at

  1952. Jerusalem

  1953. saying

  1954. thus

  1955. saith

  1956. Sennacherib

  1957. king

  1958. of

  1959. Assyria

  1960. wherein

  1961. do

  1962. you

  1963. trust

  1964. that

  1965. ye

  1966. abide

  1967. in

  1968. the

  1969. siege

  1970. of

  1971. Jerusalem

  1972. doth

  1973. not

  1974. Hezekiah

  1975. persuade

  1976. you

  1977. to

  1978. give

  1979. over

  1980. yourselves

  1981. to

  1982. die

  1983. in

  1984. famine

  1985. and

  1986. by

  1987. thirst

  1988. by

  1989. saying

  1990. the

  1991. Lord

  1992. your

  1993. God

  1994. shall

  1995. deliver

  1996. us

  1997. out

  1998. of

  1999. the

  2000. hand

  2001. of

  2002. the

  2003. king

  2004. of

  2005. Assyria

  2006. you

  2007. know

  2008. think

  2009. about

  2010. what

  2011. is

  2012. happening

  2013. there

  2014. what

  2015. what's

  2016. the

  2017. Assyrian

  2018. guys

  2019. showing

  2020. up

  2021. doing

  2022. their

  2023. questioning

  2024. their

  2025. faith

  2026. your

  2027. faith

  2028. is

  2029. foolishness

  2030. is

  2031. what

  2032. they're

  2033. saying

  2034. that

  2035. sound

  2036. familiar

  2037. from

  2038. today

  2039. what

  2040. do

  2041. people

  2042. often

  2043. say

  2044. well

  2045. you

  2046. know

  2047. to

  2048. trust

  2049. God

  2050. is

  2051. foolishness

  2052. you

  2053. have

  2054. a lot

  2055. of

  2056. people

  2057. who

  2058. deny

  2059. who

  2060. God

  2061. is

  2062. and

  2063. say

  2064. you

  2065. know

  2066. we

  2067. don't

  2068. need

  2069. to

  2070. trust

  2071. God

  2072. and

  2073. you

  2074. are

  2075. going

  2076. to

  2077. see

  2078. a lot

  2079. of

  2080. parallels

  2081. here

  2082. because

  2083. you

  2084. know

  2085. if

  2086. you

  2087. want

  2088. to

  2089. read

  2090. through

  2091. you

  2092. know

  2093. you

  2094. look

  2095. at

  2096. verse

  2097. 19

  2098. here

  2099. of

  2100. chapter

  2101. 32

  2102. and

  2103. it

  2104. says

  2105. they

  2106. spake

  2107. against

  2108. the

  2109. God

  2110. of

  2111. Jerusalem

  2112. and

  2113. against

  2114. the

  2115. gods

  2116. of

  2117. the

  2118. people

  2119. of

  2120. the

  2121. earth

  2122. which

  2123. were

  2124. the

  2125. work

  2126. of

  2127. hands

  2128. of

  2129. man

  2130. for

  2131. this

  2132. cause

  2133. Hezekiah

  2134. the

  2135. king

  2136. and

  2137. the

  2138. prophet

  2139. Isaiah

  2140. the

  2141. son

  2142. prayed

  2143. and

  2144. cried

  2145. unto

  2146. heaven

  2147. oh

  2148. excuse

  2149. me

  2150. we're

  2151. going to

  2152. go back

  2153. to

  2154. 2nd

  2155. Kings

  2156. that's

  2157. what

  2158. I'm

  2159. wanting

  2160. 2nd

  2161. Kings

  2162. chapter

  2163. 18

  2164. verse

  2165. 19

  2166. grab

  2167. shaken

  2168. said

  2169. unto

  2170. them

  2171. speak

  2172. ye

  2173. now

  2174. to

  2175. Hezekiah

  2176. thus

  2177. saith

  2178. the

  2179. great

  2180. king

  2181. the

  2182. king

  2183. of

  2184. Assyria

  2185. what

  2186. confidence

  2187. is there

  2188. and

  2189. thou

  2190. trustest

  2191. thou

  2192. say

  2193. but

  2194. are

  2195. but

  2196. vain

  2197. words

  2198. I

  2199. have

  2200. counsel

  2201. and

  2202. strength

  2203. for

  2204. war

  2205. now

  2206. on

  2207. whom

  2208. dost

  2209. thou

  2210. trust

  2211. and

  2212. that

  2213. thou

  2214. rebellest

  2215. against

  2216. me

  2217. you know

  2218. think

  2219. about

  2220. what

  2221. the

  2222. king

  2223. of

  2224. Assyria

  2225. is

  2226. saying

  2227. here

  2228. he

  2229. says

  2230. why

  2231. are

  2232. you

  2233. trusting

  2234. Hezekiah

  2235. why

  2236. are

  2237. you

  2238. trusting

  2239. the

  2240. God

  2241. that

  2242. Hezekiah

  2243. told

  2244. you

  2245. about

  2246. why

  2247. are

  2248. you

  2249. doing

  2250. this

  2251. important

  2252. question

  2253. because

  2254. really

  2255. what

  2256. they're

  2257. saying

  2258. do

  2259. you

  2260. really

  2261. trust

  2262. God

  2263. they

  2264. were

  2265. in a

  2266. circumstance

  2267. going to

  2268. face

  2269. a

  2270. dire

  2271. situation

  2272. you know

  2273. when

  2274. cities

  2275. were

  2276. besieged

  2277. in the

  2278. ancient

  2279. world

  2280. it

  2281. got

  2282. ugly

  2283. I

  2284. mean

  2285. you

  2286. read

  2287. through

  2288. some

  2289. of

  2290. that

  2291. in

  2292. the

  2293. scripture

  2294. you know

  2295. would

  2296. you pay

  2297. a day's

  2298. wages

  2299. for

  2300. a

  2301. bird

  2302. dung

  2303. I

  2304. mean

  2305. that's

  2306. pretty

  2307. desperate

  2308. most

  2309. of us

  2310. would

  2311. say

  2312. I

  2313. would

  2314. never

  2315. do

  2316. that

  2317. you

  2318. know

  2319. what

  2320. that

  2321. tells

  2322. you

  2323. how

  2324. far

  2325. and

  2326. how

  2327. desperate

  2328. people

  2329. became

  2330. in a

  2331. siege

  2332. that's

  2333. what

  2334. they

  2335. knew

  2336. they

  2337. were

  2338. going

  2339. to

  2340. be

  2341. facing

  2342. that's

  2343. what

  2344. the

  2345. Assyrian

  2346. king

  2347. do

  2348. you

  2349. really

  2350. trust

  2351. God

  2352. to

  2353. get

  2354. you

  2355. through

  2356. this

  2357. do

  2358. you

  2359. know

  2360. what

  2361. you're

  2362. going

  2363. to

  2364. go

  2365. through

  2366. do

  2367. you

  2368. know

  2369. the

  2370. that's

  2371. chronicles

  2372. yep

  2373. get back

  2374. to verse

  2375. 21

  2376. over here

  2377. notice

  2378. verse

  2379. 21

  2380. of

  2381. second

    2 Kings 18 chapter mention

  2382. kings

  2383. chapter

  2384. 18

  2385. he says

  2386. now

  2387. behold

  2388. thou

  2389. trust

  2390. upon

  2391. the

  2392. staff

  2393. of

  2394. this

  2395. bruised

  2396. reed

  2397. even

  2398. upon

  2399. Egypt

  2400. of

  2401. which

  2402. a

  2403. man

  2404. leaned

  2405. I

  2406. will

  2407. go

  2408. into

  2409. his

  2410. hand

  2411. and

  2412. pierce

  2413. it

  2414. and

  2415. so

  2416. is

  2417. the

  2418. king

  2419. of

  2420. pharaoh

  2421. of

  2422. Egypt

  2423. and

  2424. all

  2425. that

  2426. trust

  2427. in

  2428. him

  2429. now

  2430. often

  2431. times

  2432. if

  2433. you

  2434. might

  2435. read

  2436. this

  2437. you

  2438. say

  2439. where

  2440. does

  2441. that

  2442. fit

  2443. if

  2444. you

  2445. go

  2446. to

  2447. Isaiah

  2448. we

  2449. won't

  2450. go

  2451. there

  2452. tonight

  2453. but

  2454. Isaiah

  2455. 36

  2456. gives

  2457. you

  2458. some

  2459. explanation

  2460. because

  2461. there

  2462. were

  2463. some

  2464. people

  2465. that

  2466. said

  2467. hey

  2468. let's

  2469. send

  2470. instead

  2471. of sending

  2472. money

  2473. to

  2474. Assyria

  2475. let's

  2476. send it

  2477. down

  2478. to

  2479. Egypt

  2480. and

  2481. see

  2482. Egypt

  2483. will

  2484. come

  2485. up

  2486. and

  2487. save

  2488. us

  2489. there

  2490. were

  2491. some

  2492. within

  2493. Jerusalem

  2494. that

  2495. had

  2496. that

  2497. attitude

  2498. and

  2499. Hezekiah

  2500. said

  2501. no

  2502. but

  2503. you know

  2504. the

  2505. Assyrian

  2506. king

  2507. probably

  2508. intercepted

  2509. the

  2510. people

  2511. or

  2512. the

  2513. exchange

  2514. in

  2515. between

  2516. because

  2517. he

  2518. seems

  2519. to

  2520. have

  2521. quite

  2522. an

  2523. insight

  2524. of

  2525. what's

  2526. happening

  2527. within

  2528. the

  2529. city

  2530. it

  2531. wouldn't

  2532. be

  2533. unheard

  2534. of

  2535. that

  2536. they

  2537. had

  2538. spies

  2539. within

  2540. the

  2541. city

  2542. finding

  2543. out

  2544. what

  2545. people's

  2546. thoughts

  2547. and

  2548. processes

  2549. were

  2550. and

  2551. then

  2552. they

  2553. used

  2554. that

  2555. against

  2556. them

  2557. you know

  2558. what

  2559. do

  2560. they

  2561. fear

  2562. and

  2563. we

  2564. see

  2565. this

  2566. now

  2567. look

  2568. at

  2569. verse

  2570. 22

  2571. but

  2572. if

  2573. you

  2574. say

  2575. unto

  2576. me

  2577. we

  2578. trust

  2579. in

  2580. the

  2581. Lord

  2582. our

  2583. God

  2584. notice

  2585. what

  2586. he

  2587. says

  2588. here

  2589. is

  2590. not

  2591. that

  2592. he

  2593. whose

  2594. altars

  2595. Hezekiah

  2596. had

  2597. taken

  2598. away

  2599. and

  2600. has

  2601. said

  2602. to

  2603. Judah

  2604. in

  2605. Jerusalem

  2606. he

  2607. shall

  2608. worship

  2609. before

  2610. the

  2611. altar

  2612. in

  2613. Jerusalem

  2614. now

  2615. and

  2616. we're

  2617. out of

  2618. time

  2619. I

  2620. want

  2621. you

  2622. to

  2623. understand

  2624. what

  2625. he's

  2626. saying

  2627. their

  2628. accusation

  2629. is

  2630. this

  2631. why

  2632. are

  2633. you

  2634. trusting

  2635. in

  2636. a

  2637. God

  2638. that

  2639. Hezekiah

  2640. is

  2641. narrowing

  2642. you

  2643. in

  2644. to

  2645. say

  2646. that

  2647. there's

  2648. only

  2649. one

  2650. way

  2651. because

  2652. you

  2653. know

  2654. what

  2655. most

  2656. people

  2657. think

  2658. I

  2659. got

  2660. to

  2661. practice

  2662. many

  2663. things

  2664. why

  2665. were

  2666. they

  2667. worshipping

  2668. on

  2669. the

  2670. hills

  2671. why

  2672. were

  2673. they

  2674. worshipping

  2675. in

  2676. the

  2677. high

  2678. places

  2679. and

  2680. Hezekiah

  2681. says

  2682. no

  2683. God

  2684. says

  2685. you

  2686. need

  2687. to

  2688. go

  2689. where

  2690. for

  2691. them

  2692. they

  2693. had

  2694. to

  2695. go

  2696. where

  2697. they

  2698. had

  2699. to

  2700. go

  2701. to

  2702. Jerusalem

  2703. to

  2704. the

  2705. house

  2706. of

  2707. God

  2708. and

  2709. you

  2710. say

  2711. well

  2712. why

  2713. is

  2714. that

  2715. important

  2716. you

  2717. know

  2718. what

  2719. everything

  2720. that

  2721. took

  2722. place

  2723. there

  2724. in

  2725. the

  2726. sacrifices

  2727. pointed

  2728. to

  2729. one

  2730. person

  2731. all

  2732. the

  2733. sacrifices

  2734. pointed

  2735. !

  2736. to

  2737. Christ

  2738. you

  2739. know

  2740. what

  2741. today

  2742. there's

  2743. not

  2744. multiple

  2745. ways

  2746. there's

  2747. one

  2748. way

  2749. it's

  2750. a

  2751. picture

  2752. but

  2753. you

  2754. know

  2755. what

  2756. makes

  2757. it

  2758. clear

  2759. that

  2760. Jesus

  2761. says

  2762. I'm

  2763. the

  2764. way

  2765. the

  2766. truth

  2767. and

  2768. the

  2769. life

  2770. and

  2771. no

  2772. man

  2773. cometh
