  1. Welcome to Life City. This podcast was created to celebrate what God is doing

  2. and what's for Texas. Our vision is to reach the hungry, the hurdy,

  3. and the hopeless. God has given us our heading. Join us today

  4. as we listen to the Word, and we pray that God speaks to you

  5. in this message. Familiar passage of Scripture Mark four, verse thirty five says,

  6. on the same day, when evening had come, he said to them,

  7. let us cross over to the other side verse thirty six. Now,

  8. when they had left the multitude, they took him along in the boat as

  9. he was, and other little boats were also with him, And a great

  10. wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat so that it was

  11. already filling. He was in the stern on a pillow. That's great,

  12. and said to him, teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?

  13. Do you not give an iota of concern toward our well being? Amen,

  14. you can be seated. It's it's funny how quickly we as humans turned

  15. to the blame game. Amen. It just happens naturally to us when our

  16. favorite team loses, well, it's because of the refs or the umps or

  17. the other team cheated, or the ump couldn't see, you know, the

  18. broad side out of a bar, and you know that strike was a strike,

  19. it wasn't a ball, you know. They all of those things.

  20. We turn to the blame game. That's what happens. The coach is an

  21. idiot, you know, those kind of things. But the disciples immediately do

  22. you not care for us? It's this whole thing has been going on from

  23. the very beginning of humanity. When things go wrong, then we are very

  24. quick to begin to blame others outside of our own self. Look at the

  25. garden of Eden, all right, beautiful garden right, just picture esque place.

  26. And he puts Adam and Eve there and he tells him you can eat

  27. of anything except and we know the story. Eve goes and she eats of

  28. the apple and then gives it to Adam, and he eats of the apple,

  29. and then they figure out that they've messed up, and so they run

  30. and hide, which is you know, you're hiding from God hello. And

  31. so he goes and he finds them and like, what are you doing?

  32. And it's funny how Adam is very quick to say, God, this woman

  33. that you gave me, see how you did that? God, this is

  34. your fault. You gave me this woman and she messed things up. And

  35. then he turns to Eve, and Eve blames it on the devil. It's

  36. his fault. It's very quick how Sin brings about the blame game in our

  37. life. Man, and so in marriage, I will give you this word

  38. of wisdom that for your benefit, gentlemen, it's never her fault. It's

  39. just nineteen years of experience speaking somehow I don't I still have not. I'm

  40. not just you know, the super super smart guy, but I'm not just

  41. dumb as a box of rocks either. And so but I've never I still

  42. have not figured out how in all of the things that have happened in our

  43. marriage and our life, somehow I'm the one that's most of the time saying

  44. I'm sorry, I just you know, that's that's a head scratcher. But

  45. however, it's worked. It's worked for nineteen years. So if it ain't

  46. broke, don't fix it. Amen. Men are very silent right now,

  47. and I get it, I get it, amen, But ladies understand understand

  48. that, uh, you know, it's not always his fault. And here's

  49. the man, amenity. Yeah, do you hear that woman. First of

  50. all, don't ever call her woman. That's a that's you'll Yeah, you'll

  51. mess things up right there, because and you know, and as as Adam

  52. and Eve are playing the blame game, God's going I gave you one thing

  53. not to do, and that's what you did. At that point, I'm

  54. sure God was like, Okay, maybe I need to rethink this whole humanity

  55. thing. They're not starting out on a really good foot. But uh,

  56. it's it's funny how that happens, how quick we are to look at God

  57. and say, God, why didn't you do this? Why didn't you do

  58. that? Amen? I'm just glad we live in his grace man, because

  59. in our humanity and all seriousness, we are very quick to start looking at

  60. Instead of looking internally, we look externally as to why certain things. And

  61. I get it. There are things out of your control that impact your life.

  62. And it's not necessarily because of a decision that you made, but it's

  63. things that impact. But even in those moments, it's how are you going

  64. to respond? How are you going to respond to the things that impact your

  65. life, whether they're happening because of your own doing or just something that's been

  66. thrust upon you? What do you do? How do you respond? You

  67. remember, years and years ago, everybody who was at WWJD, you know,

  68. what would Jesus do? And man, that's the real thing is we

  69. got to think how should I respond to this? Now? Most of the

  70. time I get it wrong. When I'm driving and somebody cuts me off,

  71. I think, what would Jesus do? After the fact that my wife tells

  72. me, hey, you need to bring it down a little bit turbo because

  73. you know that road rage hits and you're like, you know, you're like

  74. eating their bumper. But I don't ever do that. Lord, forgive me.

  75. I just, I just I just I just told one right there in

  76. front of God and everybody. Amen. Verse thirty nine says, then he

  77. arose talking about Jesus and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, peace

  78. be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

  79. Now it was October fourteenth, nineteen forty seven, and there was a B

  80. twenty nine bomber that took off from an airstrip in southern California, and it

  81. had an experimental aircraft attached to its belly, an aircraft called the Bell X

  82. one. We're for so very, very long. It was believed by many

  83. aeronautical engineers that the speed of sound was an unbreakable barrier. However, there

  84. was a pilot named Chuck Yeager who believed otherwise. And so when that plane

  85. reached twenty five thousand feet, the B twenty nine bomber releases the bell X

  86. one and it fired its engines. It accelerated to five hundred six hundred miles

  87. per hour seven hundred miles per hour, and at point nine six' five

  88. mock, the control panels started going haywire. The plane starts shaking. The

  89. controls or needles are going everywhere because in nineteen forty seven and not everything was

  90. digital. You know, it didn't have this big flat screen like the teslas

  91. have now, you know, the autopilot. So everything's going haywire. Needles

  92. are bouncing back and forth, the plane shaking, and at nine at point

  93. nine nine five mock, Chuck Jaeger becomes blurred because everything's shaking so much.

  94. His stomach is in knots because of the g force on his body. And

  95. just when it felt like this plane was gonna come completely apart or implode,

  96. there was a sonic boom. It was described as the perfect storm became the

  97. perfect calm, and you see a supersonic speeds. The air pressure that has

  98. been pounding the front nose of that plane shifts to the tail and what was

  99. once a headwind that was beaten the sam hill out of the front of that

  100. plane becomes a tailwind that propels it. Why because the plane was now traveling

  101. faster than the sound waves it created. It's pretty incredible, isn't it.

  102. It's amazing. At nineteen forty seven, the first sonic boom was felt,

  103. was heard. It's very possible, even probable, that some of you are

  104. living and leading at point nine mock. The control panels of your life are

  105. going crazy. Everything's shaking, your job, your kids, all of it

  106. seems like it's gonna either implode or it's just gonna completely tear apart. And

  107. maybe you walked in this morning to this service and you're sitting there and your

  108. vision is blurred because your life is just tied up in knots and everything's going

  109. crazy, and everything's going and you don't know where to go, and you

  110. don't know what to do. Well, the good thing is you're in the

  111. right place because what you need is a breakthrough. You need a spiritual sonic

  112. boom to happen in your life. Amen. And the truth is this,

  113. as long as Jesus is in the boat, then your breakthrough is on deck.

  114. Amen. That's why I want to tell somebody it's very simple, very

  115. very very clear. As long as Jesus is in your life, then your

  116. breakthrough is on deck. Your moment of shift is just a spoken word away,

  117. amen, whether you believe that or not, whether you can see it

  118. or not. And if you're in what I just described and everything's shaking and

  119. everything's going crazy and going haywire, if that's the describing your life, I

  120. want to tell you that all it takes is a single spoken word by the

  121. Master, his outstretched hand upon your life, and he can bring about a

  122. complete breakthrough for you and in you, because his spoken word, his outstretched

  123. hand is going to lead you to experiencing that shift of feeling like you're constantly

  124. fighting a headwind and all of a sudden, all of a sudden, it

  125. changes to a tailwind, and what felt like was going to destroy you is

  126. yell you forward, amen, amen. Because Paul wrote in Philippian's Three,

  127. he wrote he wrote this beautiful little things he said. He said, Brethren,

  128. I do not regard myself as as having laid hold or having apprehended yet,

  129. he said, But this one thing I do forgetting what lies behind me

  130. and reaching reaching forward to what lies ahead. He says, I press on

  131. toward the mark, the goal of the prize of a high calling of Jesus

  132. Christ in my life. Amen. And see that's what God wants to do.

  133. Whatever you face today, whatever storm you're facing, whatever trial you're facing,

  134. whatever thing is shaking your life, God wants to take it and he

  135. wants to turn it to use it to propel you instead of what the enemy

  136. meant to do, and that is destroy you. Amen, Because that's what

  137. God does. Because there is this thing in scripture, and you may have

  138. heard certain preachers mention it. It's a peace that passes all understanding. And

  139. see, nothing in this world, nothing in your life, can give you

  140. that only Jesus. Only Jesus can give you that peace that passes all understanding.

  141. Amen, it's not attainable. Like you might have formally believed that peace

  142. that passes all understanding, and like Chuck Jaeger, I believe there is a

  143. breakthrough that is possible even in the face of unbelief. Amen, even in

  144. the face of chaos. The world can stand against the Church. But when

  145. Jesus is in the room, when Jesus is on the boat, it doesn't

  146. matter what anyone else says or believes. Amen. And every negative word spoken

  147. about your marriage, about your life, about your kids, it does not

  148. matter what people say. It only matters what Jesus has spoken over your life.

  149. It only matters what Jesus has to say about you. And what I

  150. read in Scripture is that He's got a plan for your life. Amen.

  151. And I don't have to know anything about you to know that there is a

  152. divine and or aimed plan for your life. Amen. And his word has

  153. been spoken. When he called you out of darkness and into his marvelous light,

  154. there was a calling of Jesus Christ upon your life. And this is

  155. the thing about the word of the Lord. Scripture tells us it does not

  156. return void. You know what that means. It does not return empty,

  157. Amen, until it accomplishes what it was spoken to accomplish. Has for you

  158. is still attainable, It's still available. It doesn't matter what your past was.

  159. Your past cannot kill the voice and the promise of God. Amen.

  160. Do we believe that your past mistakes cannot destroy the calling of God upon your

  161. life. I know may people may look at your life at one point or

  162. another and say, ah, there's there's hopeless. God works in hopelessness,

  163. And I'm a testimony to God working in hopelessness. Amen. Well, they're

  164. they're too far gone that they they're broken. God is a mender of hearts.

  165. Amen. God works in the broken. He takes the broken, He

  166. takes the shattered dust of life, and he begins to mold it into something

  167. beautiful. Amen. I think of the words that Jesus said he told the

  168. disciples before he went to the cross. He says, he says, this

  169. tabernacle, this temple, this body, this my flesh and blood is gonna

  170. be destroyed, he said, But in three days I'm gonna rise again.

  171. Amen. I'm gonna tease the devil and let him think he won. Then

  172. I'm gonna flip the switch and he's gonna realize for all of eternity he's defeated.

  173. Amen. And this is the beautiful thing about that. That's not just

  174. a story we read, that's your story because His resurrection is your resurrection.

  175. Amen. When he the scripture tells us that when he rose, we rose.

  176. Amen. He overcame death, hell and the grave for us. Amen.

  177. And so our resurrection from all of the dead things that that that once

  178. that mistakes and passed all life that's dead and gone. Amen. All it

  179. takes is a word from Jesus to say, come forth, like he did

  180. Lazarus from the Great just he was four days, Bubba was thinking, okay,

  181. I mean, like nobody wanted to roll that stone back. They're like,

  182. Lord, let's let's let's talk about this, because he's been dead four

  183. days. He's been in there for four days, and he's gonna he's gonna

  184. be rank. And he said roll it back, come forth, Amen.

  185. And that's what he wants to speak to some of you today. And man,

  186. there's been some callings and some promises and some things in your life that

  187. you thought were dead and gone. Amen. And he wants to speak to

  188. those things this morning, and he wants to call them forth. Amen.

  189. But you find yourself everything is this turbulent. Everybody in here is. If

  190. you ever flown, most everybody flies has flown at least once in their life

  191. and and that's the one thing. My wife, she she's a brave soul,

  192. but man, when a little bit of turbulence, she's like, he's

  193. like death grip. I'm like, it's like the super Woman's like strength,

  194. like like you know, it's like Wonder Woman grabbed a hole, like crushing

  195. me. I'm like, oh, yeah, be wrong, wrong, yeah,

  196. Like why are you crying? I'm crying for you, you know.

  197. But a little bit of turbulence, that's how we react. You know.

  198. It's like the cat you throw off the roof. No, I'm just playing,

  199. you know. Oh, we don't do that. I'm just playing.

  200. So that's how we react when turbulence hits us. We want to grab a

  201. hold of something. Ah, we we panic. And that's what the disciples

  202. did. They panicked. They said, we do you not care that we're

  203. going to be destroyed? And Jesus was like what, And he questioned their

  204. faith. He questioned, why are you so fearful? And it's incredible to

  205. me to behold his power and authority in this situation, but not just in

  206. this situation, but in our life. His power and his authority in our

  207. life trumps everyone and everything else that you see and that you go through.

  208. So don't panic, stand still and know that he is God. Amen.

  209. I'm gonna repeat that in your spirit. Amen. Don't panic, stand still

  210. and know that he is God. Amen. Amen. So Jesus stops the

  211. storm in its tracks. Okay. The disciples had no previous category for what

  212. just took place, and so they end up asking a very obvious question like

  213. who is this? Like how can he command the waves? How can he

  214. order and control the wind? How does that happen? In verse forty one.

  215. And they feared exceedingly and said to one another, who can this be

  216. that even the wind and the see obey him? How is this possible?

  217. The short answer is because it's the one who made them. Let me explain

  218. that to you this way. The wind and the waves, who were created

  219. by the voice of God, recognized the voice of their creator, Amen,

  220. and had to submit to his authority he man. They recognized the voice of

  221. the Creator. They were spoken into existence by his voice, And when Jesus

  222. spoke, they recognized the voice of the creator, and they had to submit

  223. to his authority. Colossians Paul wrote to the Church and Colossians and Calisi in

  224. chapter one, verse fifteen He says, who is the image of the invisible

  225. God, first born of every creature. And Verse sixteen says, for by

  226. him were all things created? Amen? And I want to speak that into

  227. your over your life right now. By him, were all things created?

  228. Everything? He has a creator, and it is Jesus. Amen. And

  229. he goes on. He says, that are in heaven, that are in

  230. earth visible and invisible. This is where it rubber meets the road. The

  231. things you can see were created by him. The things you cannot see,

  232. we're created by him. That's why we don't have to fear the unknown.

  233. We just have to trust the God of the unknown. We just have to

  234. put our faith in him. We have to stand upon him. And when

  235. things come, and when the waves come and our boat is filling up,

  236. we don't have to panic and we don't have to fear because we know Jesus

  237. is on board. And he says, whether they be thrones or dominions,

  238. or principalities or powers, all things, everyone say, all things we're created

  239. by him and for him, And he is before all things, and by

  240. him all things consist. Amen. Everything you see, everything you don't see,

  241. has to submit itself to his voice. Amen. And that's why Jesus

  242. asked the disciples, why are you so fearful? How is it you have

  243. no faith? Jesus was saying, you've seen me perform miracles, and yet

  244. this amazes you. Listen, this is the thing, and this hit me

  245. when I was studying for this. We either believe that he is omnipotent,

  246. which means all powerful, or we believe that he has no power. There

  247. is no in between. Amen. We either believe that he controls everything or

  248. that he controls nothing. A man, you can't dance in the middle somewhere.

  249. Amen. Revelations talks about being lukewarm. Amen. And when when you're

  250. lukewarm, when you're riding the fence. Well, he's got control on this

  251. side. But this side, ah, that's just willy nilly baby, that's

  252. just free floating. No, no, no, no. He either has

  253. all control he has no control. He either has all power he has no

  254. power. You believe. I believe he has all power in heaven and earth.

  255. I believe that by him all things are created and for him. Amen.

  256. And so there is nothing in your life that is happening right now to

  257. you, or to to you or in you that the voice of the Master

  258. cannot command Amen. The only thing hindering your storm from being calmed is your

  259. submission to his authority. The wind and the waves they had no choice because

  260. they were created to obey him. You have a choice this morning. You

  261. can break out them the pails and you can try to get all of the

  262. water out of your own boat while the storm rages. How many have tried

  263. that, every one of us, you know, And you look back and

  264. there's more water than when you started, and you're like, what is happening

  265. here? So you can try it your own way, or you can simply

  266. submit yourself, your marriage, your job, your storm, your battle to

  267. Jesus and let the one who commands the wind and the waves speak peace into

  268. your situation. I want my wife to come to the piano, please,

  269. because there are two truths here. I want I want them to put that

  270. on the screen. Sometimes there's words behind that. Sometimes God delivers from and

  271. sometimes God delivers through. It's much easier for us when he delivers from.

  272. That's our preference. Just deliver me from the storm that way I never had.

  273. Hey, everywhere we go, just deliver me from the storm. But

  274. as we see in scripture, He often delivers through through the fiery furnace.

  275. He delivered through the lions, did he delivered through the wilderness? Amen?

  276. Because when God delivers us through, do you realize he could have kept that

  277. storm from ever hitting their boat, but he didn't. Because adversity creates an

  278. intimacy in relationships, and when we go through the storm, it creates an

  279. intimacy in our relationship with Jesus that nothing else can create, and that adversity

  280. builds a bond that cannot be broken. And this is true in our earthly

  281. relationships. My marriage of nineteen years to this beautiful, talented woman right here.

  282. She loves it. When I do that. It isn't strong because we've

  283. never went through hard times. It's strong because of the hard times. We're

  284. closer now than we've ever been because of those tough times, because of the

  285. adversities. Your trial, your storm, is going to reveal something about God

  286. to you. So don't be so quick to hit the eject button. Don't

  287. be so quick to hit the escape button. Just let Jesus be Jesus in

  288. your life. Just submit your storm to him and let him step up and

  289. begin to speak, and you'll come out of that storm, knowing that He'll

  290. never leave you nor forsake you. Amen. Because what God brings you through

  291. elevates you and glorifies him. What God brings you through elevates you, glorifies

  292. him. Amen. Would you stand with me this morning? Romans eight twenty

  293. says, Then we know, oh that all things, everyone say, all

  294. things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are

  295. called according to His purpose. But the part that I want to focus on

  296. are the second and third words of that scripture. We know? Do you

  297. do you know in the face of tribulation? Do you know that in the

  298. face of a trial, and the face of a fiery furnace, and the

  299. face of of what Chuck Yeger faced, when when all everything's going crazy,

  300. and all the controls and all the panels and everything feels like it's going to

  301. be ripped apart? Do you really know that all things work together for good

  302. to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.

  303. See that's the other key. Is his purpose, not my purpose,

  304. not your purpose, his perfect will. I want to ask you to close

  305. your eyes if you don't mind, just so that the focus is not on

  306. me. But we can we can turn our attention to him. Because I

  307. want to tell you this. Your storm is there. Your storm is present

  308. to reveal his peace. Your fiery furnace is there to reveal his protection and

  309. his provision. Your mountain is there to reveal his power. All it takes

  310. is a single act of mission. Submit to How do I do that?

  311. Lord? I give this to you. Your will be done, not mine.

  312. I give it to you. And so as you stand there today with

  313. your eyes closed, if there is something that you're facing today that you don't

  314. You've tried to break out the buckets and the pails, and you've tried to

  315. get all the water out of the boat, but you feel you still feel

  316. like you're sinking. Amen, with every eye close, I wonder if you'd

  317. be willing to submit, and if you're willing to submit to him and just

  318. lay everything at his feet this morning. I wonder if you'd just slip up

  319. both of your hands this morning. Hallelujah, Complete surrender, complete surrender.

  320. Or everything in my life I give to you, or everything I face,

  321. I give it to you right here, right now, Lord, I give

  322. you that, I give you that situation in my life. I give you

  323. my marriage I give you the issues I'm having with my kids and my grandkids.

  324. I give you my job and the situations there and my business and what's

  325. going on there. Lord. I give it to you right here, right

  326. now, Lord, and I release it to you, and I submit to

  327. your will and your power and your authority. Lord, to you, Lord,

  328. to take control. Come on, let that be your prayer here all

  329. over this building, all over this place. Lord. It's not about my

  330. future. It's not about my dreams. God, It's about what you want

  331. to do in me and through me. In the name of Cheese the Lord.

  332. Right now, God, I release your peace to begin to speak to

  333. each and every heart in this place. Hallelujah. If you want to take

  334. it one step further, you can step out from where you're at and come

  335. up and pray around this altar right now, hallelujah. But let's turn this

  336. entire place into an altar. Lord, right here, right now, I

  337. lay it all at your feet. Well, because I know that you're the

  338. Master, and I know that by you all things are created, all things
