  1. Welcome to Life City. This podcast was created to celebrate

  2. what God is doing and what Protexas our vision is

  3. to reach the hungry, the hurdy, and the hopeless. God

  4. has given us our heading. Join us today as we

  5. listen to the Word and we pray that God speaks

  6. to you in this message.

  7. Ephesians chapter three, verse fourteen, for this season, for this reason, Amen,

  8. for this cause, I bow my knees unto the Father

  9. of our Lord, Jesus Christ, verse fifteen, of whom the

  10. whole family in heaven and Earth is named, verse sixteen.

  11. That He would grant you, according to the riches of

  12. His glory, to be strengthened with might by His spirit

  13. in the inner man. Amen, you can just keep strolling,

  14. do You don't have to wait on me to call

  15. the number out. That Christ may dwell in your hearts

  16. by faith, everyone say by faith that you, being rooted

  17. and grounded in love, Amen, may be able to comprehend

  18. understand with all saints, what is the breadth and the length,

  19. and the depth and the height, And to know the

  20. love of Christ, which passes knowledge. Scared me too, that

  21. you might be filled with all the fullness of God. Amen. Amen, Amen,

  22. I want to say that it is an honor and

  23. a privilege to have Beckian all Stags with us today. Amen.

  24. This is Becky Stags is a principal at TCA where

  25. my girls go to school. And so it's not every day,

  26. London you get to worship with your principal on a weekend. Amen.

  27. They have chapel together. But Amen, so good to have

  28. them here with us today and all of you. Amen,

  29. So good to have you with us and worshiping the Lord. Amen.

  30. We began a new Focus series last week titled Disciples,

  31. and we talked about being rooted, grounded and established in

  32. our faith in Jesus Christ. Man. Faith in Christ is

  33. an essential attribute of a disciple. Amen, it's you you.

  34. You don't have one without the other, Okay, it's it's

  35. an essentiality. And not. When I say faith, I'm not

  36. just talking about a believing faith that you believe in Him.

  37. I'm not I'm not just talking about mountain moving faith

  38. or parting sees faith. I'm not talking about just that

  39. kind of faith. I'm talking about an unrelenting faith while

  40. you're in a storm. I'm talking about a fervent faith

  41. while you're in a fiery trial. Amen. I'm talking about

  42. faith when everything is stacked against you, faith when nothing

  43. is going your way. That kind of faith is what

  44. it means to be rooted, grounded and established. Amen. In

  45. the faith, Amen, when everything stacked against you, I know

  46. that God is able. Amen. Paul said in Second Corinthians,

  47. chapter four, verse eight, he says, we are hard pressed

  48. on every side, yet not crushed. You ever feel squeezed

  49. by life? You ever feel pressure by life? That's what

  50. Paul's saying. He says, we are hard pressed, we are squeezed.

  51. We get pressure from every side sometimes in life, he says,

  52. But no, you may feel squeezed, you will not be crushed. Amen.

  53. We are perplexed, but not in persecuted, but not forsaken.

  54. Come on, I want to repeat that for somebody here today,

  55. persecuted but not forsaken. Somebody needs to know that Jesus

  56. will never forsake you. Amen. Somebody needs to get it

  57. in their mind, set it in their heart and in

  58. their spirit that I am not forsaken. No matter what

  59. I feel emotionally, I am not forsaken. He is faithful,

  60. He is omnipresent. There is no place I can go

  61. the darkest hole I can find in this world. I

  62. cannot escape the love of Jesus Christ. I cannot escape

  63. the hand of my God. Amen. He is always there.

  64. We are struck down but not destroyed. Paul had this resolve,

  65. He had some grit. Amen. Sometimes grit is developed, not

  66. necessarily innate, Amen. Some people are just born with grit,

  67. but grit can be developed. Amen. And I believe the

  68. Church of the Living God needs to develop some grit. Amen. Amen.

  69. We need to develop some resolve. Amen, that we're not

  70. tossed to fro by every whim of life, every storm

  71. and every trial, and every time the waves splash upon us.

  72. We're not doom and despair and we're going under and

  73. we're sinking. No, but we have the word of God

  74. hid in our heart. That's why David wrote, I have

  75. hid the Word of God in my heart. Why David understood,

  76. if all I have it is in my mind, then

  77. there may be times where I can be deceived. But

  78. my heart, when it's written on the tables of my heart,

  79. I could bend them. God is still the peace speaker

  80. in my life. Amen. And if we are disciples, Amen.

  81. This world needs to see a discipled church that is

  82. willing to stand in the storm and still declare that

  83. God is faithful. Amen, Still stand in the fiery furnace

  84. and know that God will show up. Amen. A resolve,

  85. a fervor, a passion, Amen, or say it this way,

  86. Just be plain old, hard headed. I'm not wrong. Sometimes

  87. we just need to be hard headed about God. We

  88. love to be hard headed about other things. Don't look

  89. at your spouse right now, Amen. How quickly are we tossed?

  90. We can be so fickle, Amen. But if we're a disciple, Amen,

  91. there's something set within us that nothing can move me.

  92. Why because I'm founded, I'm built upon the rock that

  93. is Jesus Christ. Amen. Nothing can move me, nothing can

  94. sway me, nothing can can can can blow my life

  95. off kilter or off path. Why because I have set

  96. my feet upon the rock that is Jesus Christ. Amen. Amen,

  97. I will not build my life on the sand. Amen.

  98. And though I may walk through the valley of the

  99. shadow of death, I will not fear. Why because I

  100. know His Rod and his staff are with me. They

  101. guide me, they cut hurt me. He anoints my head. Amen,

  102. he leaves me beside still waters. Amen. It doesn't matter

  103. what I go through I know he's there in my fear,

  104. he's there in my doubt, he's there in my darkness.

  105. He's there. He's always there. Amen. Amen, Hallelujah, resolve God

  106. is able. Look at somebody and tell him God is able. Amen.

  107. So he wrote, let's go back to verse seventeen of

  108. Ephesians three, Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith

  109. that you say me being rooted and grounded in love.

  110. Now we know words from Romans eight. Nothing can separate

  111. us from the love of God in Christ Jesus right.

  112. We know that, and then there's a long list of

  113. things that we know and we quote that. But what

  114. about your love of God? We know God's love for us.

  115. We know his love for us. This is why he came,

  116. why he died. What about your love? My love for him? Amen?

  117. Is it established? Is your love established? Is it rooted

  118. and grounded? Is it the source of your walk with him? Amen?

  119. Are you built upon the rock that is Jesus Christ,

  120. out of love, rooted and grounded in love? Is your

  121. love conditional circumstantial? Amen? Or is it unconditional? A love

  122. that lasts over time, through storms and trials. Do you

  123. love him when he doesn't show up on your timing.

  124. Do you love him, truly love him when he doesn't

  125. answer your prayer? Amen? Amen, hallelujah. It's about being a disciple.

  126. Being a disciple isn't a convenient love or a conditional love.

  127. It's a sacrificial love. Amen. It's a love that drives

  128. us to obedience to his word, to his will and

  129. to his way. That's what this is. This isn't Jesus

  130. loves me. This I know, for the Bible tells me so.

  131. This is a love that is born deep within our soul. Amen.

  132. A disciple, a disciple, Amen, is somebody that has developed

  133. a love. The life of a disciple is birth from

  134. a place of prayer while in his presence. That's where

  135. we become a disciple. We become a disciple, not on

  136. a Sunday morning with our hands lifted. We become a

  137. disciple when it's just you and God and you're in

  138. his presence and you're pouring your heart out to him

  139. and he's speaking to you and you're hearing him. Amen.

  140. That's where the life of a disciple is born, because

  141. that's where you fall in love with Jesus. That's where

  142. it goes from just a feeling. Oh, I love him

  143. because he blessed me. I love him because he died

  144. for me. No, I love him and I want to

  145. live my life for him, and I love my life

  146. for him. It's in his presence in that place of

  147. prayer that it becomes sacrificial, not conditional. Amen. You see

  148. children of Israel. We see this in the children of Israel.

  149. How quick they were to turn. He rolls back the

  150. red sea. Woo. We walk her along dry ground. We

  151. turn around. Pharaoh in his armies following us. The sea returns. Amen.

  152. The chariots are floating in the sea, and we're rejoicing.

  153. We're singing songs. We're clapping our hands. How great is

  154. our God? How great is our God. Just a few

  155. days later, Oh, he's forsaken us. We're gonna die of thirst. Amen.

  156. A disciple. To be a disciple is to have a

  157. resolve and a love and a faith that pushes past

  158. what we see, what we go through, and is buried

  159. deep within the word of God, that he is a

  160. God that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all

  161. that we ask or think. Amen. That's right. Here is

  162. where a disciple is born. Being a disciple happens in

  163. his presence. It's where the heart is molded, the mind

  164. is renewed, and the soul is connected. Amen. It's in

  165. his presence is where the brand vine and that life

  166. giving source that flows through the vine begins to flow

  167. through the branches. Then and only then can we as

  168. disciples be fruitful, Amen, when we're connected to the vine.

  169. Jesus responds to a question about what is the greatest

  170. commandment Matthew twenty two, verse thirty six. He says, teacher,

  171. what is the great commandment in the law? And Jesus

  172. said to him, you shall love the Lord your God

  173. with all your heart, with all your soul, and with

  174. all your mind. Love the Lord your God with all

  175. your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind. Hallelujah.

  176. This is the first in great commandment. Do you love

  177. Him with all your heart, with all your soul, with

  178. all your mind. Discipleship is not a job description. It's

  179. not a church program. It's a calling that is answered

  180. from the depth of a heart that truly loves Jesus. Amen.

  181. That's where it's answered, That's where it's felt, a heart

  182. completely given and open to him. Paul gives us a clue.

  183. In Second Corinthians, chapter four, Verse five, he says, we

  184. don't preach ourselves, but Christ, Jesus our Lord, and ourselves

  185. as your bond servants for his sake. Verse six. But God,

  186. who said let light shall shine out of darkness, is

  187. the one who the light of the knowledge of the

  188. glory of God in the face of Christ. Amen. And

  189. then in verse seven, but we have this treasure in

  190. earthen vessels. Man, do you know that you are that

  191. earthen vessel? Amen? What he's talking about. He's saying, light

  192. shall shine out of darkness, the one who has shone

  193. in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge

  194. of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

  195. You remember the story of Gideon, won't you think about

  196. the story of Gideon. He goes and he stands there

  197. and he tells him, all right, now, I want you

  198. to go up against this army. But I don't need

  199. your sword and I don't need your shield. All I

  200. want you to carry is a picture and a trumpet.

  201. That's all I want you to carry. And I want

  202. you to encamp around the the the enemy. And when

  203. the time comes, I want you to smash and break

  204. that picture so that the light that's in it will

  205. be exposed into the darkness. Amen. And then I want

  206. you to blow the trumpet. It's a pretty interesting way

  207. to fight a battle, is it not. So think of that.

  208. And then when we read what we just read from Paul,

  209. he says, for God, who said light shall shine out

  210. of darkness, is the one who has shown in your

  211. hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the

  212. glory of God in Christ in the face of Jesus.

  213. He says, But we have this treasure in earthen vessels,

  214. that the excellence of the power may be of God

  215. and not of us. Amen. Jesus told us that we

  216. are the light of the world. Amen. That's our purpose,

  217. that's our calling. To be a disciple means to be

  218. filled with His light. Amen. But how this is the

  219. How do we rever that light? David wrote and gave

  220. us the answer in Psalms chapter fifty one. He said,

  221. behold you desire in the inward parts, and in the

  222. hidden part, you will make me to know wisdom. Purge

  223. me with hissop, and I shall be clean. Wash me

  224. and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me hear

  225. joy in gladness that the bones you have broken may rejoice.

  226. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all

  227. my iniquities. We know this one verse ten. Create in

  228. me a clean heart, O God, and renew a stead

  229. fast spirit within me. Verse sixteen. You do not desire sacrifice,

  230. or else I would give it, but you do. You

  231. do not delight in burnt offerings Verse seventeen. The sacrifices

  232. of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a

  233. contrite heart. These, Oh God, you will not despise. Amen. Amen,

  234. let me tell you how this works. To be a disciple.

  235. It takes brokenness. You're like, well, that's easy, I'm all

  236. broke up a man. No, what I mean is it

  237. takes a heart that is broken before God. You see,

  238. something that is broken can't hold on to anything. Amen.

  239. You see, when you're completely broken before him, you can't

  240. hold on to anything. If you have a clay pot

  241. full of water and you break it, all the water

  242. spills out. Man. That's what he wants from us, Amen.

  243. He wants us to come before him and break a

  244. hard thing that's inside of us is spilled out before him.

  245. Why because he wants to put something in us that

  246. will impact the people around us, that will impact the

  247. world around us. And he takes the broken pieces and

  248. he begins to mold and reshape, because he is the

  249. potter and we are the clay. And he begins to

  250. put his hands on us, and he begins to reshape us. Amen.

  251. And it's in that place of brokenness where we can

  252. be filled with something so powerful and it impacts our world. Amen,

  253. something so powerful that when all of the forces are

  254. stacked against against us, we know that God is still faithful. Amen.

  255. It's about becoming a disciple, a true disciple. Amen. This

  256. whole idea of a Christian has for years and years

  257. and years now has become just a fad, a trend,

  258. a thing to be. Everybody is a Christian. Amen. And

  259. so to say you're a Christian, that doesn't that doesn't

  260. separate you. But to be a disciple, but to be

  261. a true disciple of Jesus, Amen, Nothing, nothing can steer

  262. me away. Amen. I am firmly planted. I come before

  263. him with a broken and a contrite heart. Amen. That's

  264. what he wants. God asks for your heart that so

  265. he can fill it with light. And in this earth

  266. and vessel that he can reveal himself to the hurting,

  267. to the hungry, and to the hopeless through you and I.

  268. But it begins with being rooted and grounded in love.

  269. Bible commentator Matthew Henry said this I like the way

  270. he wrote it. He said, there is an excellency of

  271. power in the Gospel of Christ to enlighten the mind,

  272. to convince the conscience, to convert the soul, and to

  273. rejoice the heart. But all this power is from God

  274. the Author, and not from men, who are but instruments.

  275. So that God and all things must be glorified. The

  276. disciple is the instrument used to accomplish the work. Amen.

  277. It's gonna take us being rooted and grounded in faith

  278. and in love. Rooted and grounded in faith and in love,

  279. you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,

  280. all your soul, all your mind. Amen. Why Because there's

  281. gonna be persecution, There's gonna be trials, there's gonna be storms.

  282. There's gonna be things that come your way that test you. Amen.

  283. But those things may persecute you, those things may strike you,

  284. but you're not destroyed. Amen. Amen, Grounded, think of your home.

  285. You know why Your home should be electrically grounded so

  286. that if a lightning strikes strike hits your home, your

  287. home doesn't burn to the ground. That's why your home

  288. needs to be electrically grounded, so that when, not if

  289. a strike comes, you're protected. You know why we must

  290. be grounded in faith, grounded in a love of God

  291. that is deep, is because when a strike comes, when

  292. a fight comes, when a battle comes, when a storm comes,

  293. when a hardship comes. Amen, We're not destroyed. Amen, We're protected.

  294. We're protected because I know things are gonna come against me.

  295. I know things are gonna happen to me. But I

  296. am a disciple of Jesus Christ. Amen. I have built

  297. my life upon him. Amen. I have broken myself before

  298. him in his presence. I have renewed my mind by

  299. his spirits. Amen. I have poured my soul out to him. Amen.

  300. I am a disciple. My wife comes, Amen, are you

  301. are you established this morning? Man? Would you close your

  302. eyes all over this place? The great commission is to

  303. go into all the world and preach the gospel. The

  304. gospel the gospel the gospel death, burial, and Resurrection. Amen.

  305. We were baptized with him, and if we are baptized

  306. with him, We too will rise with him, are risen

  307. with him. Amen, new life, born again, endued with power

  308. from on high. All of these things we hear, we know,

  309. we read. This is what the world desires. This is

  310. what they're missing, those that are out there and they've

  311. never felt the embrace of their heavenly Father. Amen. Disciples,

  312. earthen vessels, vessels of flesh and blood meant to carry

  313. the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world.

  314. The Gospel was never meant to be contained in temples, tibernacles,

  315. or sanctuaries. The gospel message was meant to be lived

  316. and preached into all the world, every nation, every neighborhood,

  317. every business, every school. Amen, Disciples, Disciples, it's a decision,

  318. it's a calling. Am I just going to be a

  319. church goer? Or am I going to be a disciple

  320. of Jesus Christ? Amen? Does my love for him have

  321. its limits? Or am I willing to pour my heart

  322. out to him and break my life at his feet?

  323. Holding on to nothing, not holding on to any hate,

  324. not holding on to any hurt, not holding on to

  325. any wound, not holding on to any bitterness. Not holding

  326. on to anything at all, but broken before him, poured

  327. out before him, and in his presence, falling in love

  328. with him, Amen, falling in love with him. Why he

  329. loved us? His love wasn't conditional. In fact, in the

  330. face of sin, he loved us while we were yet sinners.

  331. He loved us. Amen, cast aside, spit upon, crucified, nothing

  332. could separate us from his love. How much do you

  333. love them today? How much do you love them? I

  334. know that's an odd question to ask in church because

  335. everybody would raise their hand and say, oh, I love him.

  336. But does your love move you to live the life

  337. of a disciple? Would you stand with me this morning? Hallelujah, hallelujah.

  338. Our society doesn't need a church that is satisfied with

  339. just going to church. Our society needs disciples of Jesus Christ. Amen, Amen.

  340. I felt something this morning as I was praying over

  341. the service. I felt and I told those that were here,

  342. early told them, I feel a healing, but a specific healing,

  343. a healing of people's relationship with the Lord Man, because

  344. you know, life can cause a lot of things to

  345. shift and to change, and I felt like the Lord

  346. was desiring to heal somebody's relationship with him this morning.

  347. And so I know if I ask if your relationship

  348. with the Lord needs healing this morning, step out and come.

  349. I don't know if anybody would because that would be

  350. admitting something. Amen. But honestly, you know what, sometimes we

  351. have to get that spirit of paw and where we

  352. just don't care. I'm not here to please you, I'm

  353. here to please him. Amen. That has to be our

  354. our mindset. Amen. And if there's something in my relationship

  355. with Him that needs healed, Amen, then I'll be the

  356. first one. Lord heal me, do it work in me.

  357. If there's something that I haven't broken before you, Lord,

  358. I'll break it today. Amen. So, as my wife begins

  359. to sing, I want to give that opportunity. Yeah, I

  360. want to give an opportunity to anybody in this building

  361. that has an area of relationship with the Lord be healed.

  362. Maybe there's something that you haven't broken before him. Maybe

  363. there's something that you haven't fully given him. And in

  364. order to be a disciple, is gonna take this. It's

  365. gonna take a process of breaking before him. Man. If

  366. you're here today with every eye close, thank.
