  1. Welcome to Life City. This podcast was created to celebrate

  2. what God is doing and what protects us. Our vision

  3. is to reach the hungry, the hurdy, and the hopeless.

  4. God has given us our heading. Join us today as

  5. we listen to the Word and we pray that God

  6. speaks to you in this message.

  7. You know, I love the Lord seems pretty obvious, right,

  8. should be. Hopefully somebody called to be a pastor loves

  9. the Lord be a good start. Do you love him?

  10. I mean, really, really really love him? Amen? You know

  11. that kind of love separates you from a large population.

  12. I would say of the world, but I'll say this

  13. even of Christians. Amen. I love my wife. I really, really,

  14. really deeply love her, even while everybody start laughing at that. Yeah,

  15. even when we don't agree. I love her. Even when

  16. she frustrates me. I love her. She loves me. Proof

  17. is that she rode in the vehicle with me here today. Amen.

  18. She may not always like me, but she does love me. Amen.

  19. You see, love is something that gets you through those

  20. times where not everything is hunky dory. Amen, hallelujah. Do

  21. you love the Lord today? Amen? I love him. I'm

  22. gonna talk about Summer of miracles. We're gonna talk about

  23. the miracles of jeeps. My title today is just Summer

  24. of Miracles, amen, and that's what we're gonna dive into

  25. for the most part, this whole summer, at least through

  26. the next six seven weeks, however, and so it's uh

  27. summertime is you know, it's a lot of fun. My

  28. family and I were out of town last week. We

  29. weren't here, amen, we were in San Antonio, not my

  30. ideal spot for summer getaway, but we went down there

  31. to London, had a state skeet shoot and she did great.

  32. Lord helped her and she knocked him out of the sky.

  33. And so it was a lot of fun. And so

  34. got people traveling today, families out of town. And that's good.

  35. It's good to take some time away and spend some

  36. time with family and friends and loved ones. But today

  37. I want to start by talking about the miracles that

  38. we read about, the miracles that we find throughout Matthew, Mark,

  39. Luke and John and I thought about this. Have you

  40. ever thought about this question? What is a miracle you

  41. ever had? That we talk about miracles as believers, as Christians,

  42. as followers or price we talk about miracles. But have

  43. you ever stopped long enough to think what truly is

  44. a miracle? The scholar John Stott says, a miracle, by definition,

  45. is an extraordinary event. It's a creative deviation from God's

  46. normal way of working. He goes on to say, if

  47. miracle were to become commonplace, but cease to be miracles,

  48. now I can see that, And then I don't know. C. S.

  49. Lewis described miracles as supernatural events. Anybody ever had a

  50. supernatural event in your life? Amen, I have, and I

  51. know many of you have. The fact that we're all

  52. here loving Jesus is a supernatural event, hemen. Man, So

  53. we find Jesus performing a lot of these supernatural events

  54. or miracles. And what I find interesting is that the

  55. miracles that Jesus performed were not just some random act

  56. of his daily life. It wasn't just something he was

  57. bored so he just to do. No, there was they all.

  58. If we look deep enough, we will find a greater

  59. purpose for every miracle that he did in his journey

  60. on the sourcet. Amen, there's a deeper meaning than just

  61. what could be seen. We rejoice about the lame man

  62. taking up his bed and walking. Amen. We rejoice about

  63. blind eyes being open. We rejoice about all of these

  64. miracles taking place. They're awesome, they're amazing, and we rejoice

  65. for what we see. But for every act of the Lord,

  66. there is a greater purpose, you see. This is the

  67. thing about God. If you ever get to the point

  68. where you think you have him figured out, well you don't.

  69. If you live to be one hundred and eighty nine

  70. years old, I just threw that number out if you lived,

  71. and nobody lives that long anymore. That's my goal is

  72. to live to be the oldest man ever. Amen, I

  73. really do. Amen. I've got a job. I've got just

  74. enough meanness. I think it's possible. Amen. My dad always

  75. told me the good die young, and so and so

  76. you can live to be however old. And our understanding

  77. of God is minute. That's how great he is. Ephesians

  78. three twenty says, now unto him who is able to

  79. do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. Amen.

  80. The scripture says, as far as the heavens are from

  81. the earth, that's how high his ways are, and how

  82. much greater his thoughts are than ours, basically saying you

  83. have no clue who I am. You don't understand his power,

  84. You don't understand his ability to work, because he works

  85. in ways in our life that we haven't even lived through.

  86. He's working in our future just as much as he's

  87. working here and now today. Amen. Amen. And so, and

  88. as we look at miracles, this is what he did,

  89. this is what happened. We find all these miracles, and

  90. there's the greater purpose and the deeper meaning. And I

  91. think that's the beautiful thing of how God works, that

  92. it's not just what we see. He gives us enough

  93. to thank him for it. He lets us see enough

  94. so that we'll give him praise, But that's only scratching

  95. the surface of what he's really doing in our life. Amen.

  96. And So if God has done something recently in your life,

  97. just know, give him praise for what you know about,

  98. but give him praise for the ways he's working that

  99. you don't even realize yet. Amen. I praise him for

  100. what I see, but I also give him glory for

  101. what will I don't know and what I can't see,

  102. because He's working in realms and in ways that I

  103. can never even fathom. Amen. That's a good God. Amen.

  104. I hear music. Amen. Yeah, yes, Lord take me, now,

  105. take all of us, not just me, all of us.

  106. Sorry that was a little selfish. We're ready, Amen, hallelujah.

  107. The Lord is good. So I want to start this

  108. series off with a miracle that we find in three

  109. of the four Gospels. We're gonna look at Mark chapter

  110. four for this. Matthew depicts this miracle. Mark depicts this miracle,

  111. and Luke. But Mark has a little nuance to this

  112. story that Matthew and Luke don't detail. And it's not

  113. a big thing, but it's it. That's why I chose Mark.

  114. So Mark chapter four, verse thirty five. And on the

  115. same day, when evening had come, he said to them,

  116. let us cross over to the other side. Now. When

  117. they had left the multitude, they took him along in

  118. the boat as he was meaning, they didn't take time

  119. to go gather material, supplies, change of clothes. They just went, okay,

  120. it's like rushing out. And the other little boats were

  121. also with him verse thirty seven. And a great windstorm arose,

  122. and the waves beat into the boat so that it

  123. was already filling up verse thirty eight. But he was

  124. in the stern asleep on a pillow, and they awoke

  125. him and said to him, teacher, do you not care

  126. that we are perishing? Verse thirty nine. Then he arose,

  127. and he rebuked the wind and said to the sea,

  128. peace be still. And the wind ceased, and there was

  129. a great calm, And he said to them, why are

  130. you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?

  131. And they feared exceedingly and said to one another, who

  132. can this be that even the wind and the sea

  133. obey him? I want to quickly point out something here

  134. that we find in this story by mark the weariness

  135. of the body of Jesus. Though he had power, dominion,

  136. and all authority of heaven, he was still flesh and blood,

  137. and his physical body wore down. Anybody testify to that, man.

  138. And I point to that to remind you that the

  139. Lord understands weariness. Amen. He understands being weary in mind, body, soul,

  140. and spirit. Amen. Man, he understands what it means to

  141. feel the tiredness of mind, the tiredness and the weakness

  142. of spirit. And Jesus understands the need for rest, amen,

  143. the need for stillness of mind, stillness of body and spirit.

  144. That's why David wrote the words in Psalms twenty three

  145. to two. He leads me, he maketh me to lie

  146. down in green pastures. Man, he leads me beside the

  147. still waters. Amen, he makes me lie down in green pastures. Amen.

  148. There's a new restoration when we find ourselves at rest.

  149. And so this summer, some are on vacation now this week,

  150. and and that's great, But vacations can be a lot

  151. of things. Sometimes they are just being just going out

  152. of town. It's not really rest. We can fill our

  153. vacation time with so much stuff that when we get

  154. home from vacation, we feel like we need a vacation.

  155. Anybody testify to that. Amen. So whatever you do this summer,

  156. you need spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically to find rest. It's

  157. good for the soul. Amen, it is. It's good for

  158. the soul. And the Lord understands that that was the

  159. whole design behind the Sabbath. It was a day of

  160. rest to focus on him. Amen. And so you get

  161. away this summer, fine time to rest. If you go

  162. to the beach, don't fill your day with nine to

  163. five busyness. Spend a day just flaking out. Amen. There's

  164. power in the flake out, I promise you, Amen. So

  165. all right, I'm gonna move on from that. That's not

  166. my message this morning. So this body of water that

  167. they were on was was surrounded by mountains, and it's

  168. been documented that in that part of the world, and

  169. that that body of water that storms could blow in

  170. over the mountains in an instant, really really fast, and

  171. they would the winds would pick up, and they would

  172. come in and they would create this this storm on

  173. the on the water, very very quickly and almost in

  174. an instant. And this appears to be what took place,

  175. that this sudden storm blows in and begins to ravage

  176. the boats. And I've heard it preached about our life

  177. being like this, the storms come out of nowhere. Amen.

  178. Everything seemed to be going good. You've got plans and

  179. you're following your plans and everything going good, and all

  180. of a sudden a storm blows in your life and

  181. you're like what And it takes us by surprise, and

  182. we feel tossed about, and we feel overwhelmed, and life

  183. seems to be that way. Amen. This story, though, as

  184. I mentioned earlier, has greater purpose than just what we read,

  185. just what we see in front of us. It has

  186. a deeper meaning, and this is what I want to

  187. focus on for just a few more minutes. This miracle

  188. was not just about keeping the disciples safe. It wasn't

  189. just about making sure they reached the other side, Amen,

  190. though that was important. This was about revealing something about

  191. himself that even his disciples didn't know yet. Man. And

  192. I know I've said this before, but I believe that

  193. God desires to use every time he shows up in

  194. our life to reveal something brand new about him. Amen.

  195. I believe he does that. I believe he desires to

  196. know that. And that's when I say that's why I

  197. say be careful of thinking you have it all figured out,

  198. because He might just create something in your life to

  199. reveal something new about him. Amen. And sometimes in our stubbornness,

  200. it takes a storm in order for us to pay

  201. attention enough to learn something new about him. And so

  202. what happens here is a revelation if we really strip

  203. it down and look at it, It's a revelation of

  204. who he really is. And so every trial, every storm,

  205. and every battle is an opportunity for a brand new

  206. revelation in your life. Amen. It is I've often thought,

  207. what did they expect Jesus to do when they woke

  208. them up? I mean when they went to him and said, Lord, teacher, master,

  209. we are about to drown. Do you not even care?

  210. At that point when he woke up? What was their expectation?

  211. Because obviously they were surprised by what he did? When

  212. we call on him? What is your expectation when you

  213. hit your knees in desperation and cry out, Lord, God

  214. of Heaven, and you awaken him? What's your expectation? Do

  215. you have one? That's something to think about? When we

  216. cry out to him? What is our expectation of his

  217. response to our cry? Amen? And so they awake him,

  218. and a teacher, you don't even care? Do you expect

  219. a miracle when you cry out to him? Do you

  220. expect to see something you've already seen? For him to

  221. show up the same exact way he has in the past. Amen?

  222. What do you expect? A miracle? Is a deviation from

  223. the normal? Amen? And I believe we are such creatures.

  224. I know we're such creatures of habit that we attach

  225. that to the Lord, and that when we go before

  226. him and we begin to cry on him, cry out

  227. to him in our mind and our expectation. We think

  228. he's going to show up and move the same way

  229. he does he has before. Amen. And that's not how

  230. the Lord works. Amen. If you need evidence of that,

  231. just look throughout scripture. Amen. You'll find that he works

  232. in mysterious ways. Amen. He will get your attention, he

  233. will reveal himself to you. Amen. If you don't leave

  234. that there's a certain donkey that talked, I mean, that's

  235. pretty mysterious. A dead man walked out of the tomb,

  236. that's pretty mysterious. Amen. Peter of all people, anger issues,

  237. walked on water. That's pretty mysterious. Amen. Man. None of

  238. those things were the normal. Amen. It was a deviation

  239. from the normal. And sometimes we need our faith to

  240. believe for something more than the normal. Sometimes our faith

  241. has got to reach a point where we believe God

  242. will show up in a brand new way, so we

  243. can see Him in a brand new light, and so

  244. we can reveal have a revelation of who He is

  245. in a brand new way. Amen. We need that kind

  246. of faith. Simply, we need to believe for a miracle. Amen. Hallelujah.

  247. Amen.

  248. And so I don't know what the disciples expected. It's

  249. obvious that they didn't expect this, because we find this.

  250. And he arose, and he rebuked the wind and said

  251. to the sea, peace be still. And the wind ceased,

  252. and there was a great call. But he said to them,

  253. why are you so fearful? How is it that you

  254. have no faith? And they feared exceedingly and said to

  255. one another, who can this be? That phrase struck me,

  256. Who can this be? They'd already seen him perform miracles,

  257. they'd already seen him do supernatural things. But just in

  258. a few spoken words, Jesus revealed the words that we find.

  259. Paul wrote in Colossians two nine when he said, for

  260. in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead. Bodily. Amen,

  261. You see that peace be still wasn't about safety for

  262. the disciple. It was about revealing his true identity to

  263. his followers. It was about showing them I don't just

  264. have authority over sickness. I don't just have the ability

  265. to speak and forgive sins. He says, I have all

  266. authority in heaven and earth. Even nature obeys my spoken word. Amen.

  267. That's what this miracle was about, is a revelation of

  268. who he truly was. Amen. The power that he holds.

  269. And so this instant is not the only time we

  270. find Jesus simply speaking a word and the miracle occurs.

  271. And man, he didn't touch the water. He just spoke,

  272. and the wind and the water obeyed. Hallelujah. When Jesus

  273. said peace be steal, the voice of authority exercised dominion

  274. over the created wind and waves and water, and it

  275. became calm. Amen. And what was in a moment a

  276. storm became illness. Amen, from storm to steal, from chaos

  277. to calm peace. Amen. I want my wife to come. Hallelujah.

  278. The enemy loves to disrupt one thing, and that is

  279. our peace. Amen. He loves to create havoc. He loves

  280. to create chaos in our mind, in our lives and

  281. our emotions, spirit, and our families and our marriages, all

  282. of it. He is. He's a creature of chaos. Amen.

  283. And if he can rob us of our peace, he

  284. can plant seeds of doubt in our mind and our spirit. Amen.

  285. But I believe that there is still a peace that

  286. passes off understanding, hallelujah. And I believe it's still available, Amen.

  287. And I believe it's available at just the spoken word. Amen,

  288. I still believe in his spoken word, we find Jesus

  289. doing this. He spoke, peace be still, and the wind stopped,

  290. and the water became still. He spoke, and Lazarus walked

  291. out of the grave. He spoke and sins were forgiven.

  292. He spoke, and diseases were healed. Amen, by his spoken word,

  293. by his spoken word. Hellelujah. Paul wrote in Philippians chapter two,

  294. verse ten, that at the name of Jesus, every knee

  295. will bow. Of those in heaven and those on earth

  296. and those under the earth.

  297. Amen, at the name of Jesus, every knee would bow.

  298. Amen. Your storm must bow at the name of Jesus.

  299. Your battle is one at the name of Jesus. Amen,

  300. chaos becomes calm at the name of Jesus. Hallelujah. By

  301. Jesus said that whatever in you, I quote this all

  302. the time. Whatever we bind on earth is bound in Heaven.

  303. Whatever we lose on earth is used in heaven. Man.

  304. And I believe this this morning, as I was preparing

  305. for this, as I was reading this, I just felt

  306. this nudging of the spirit to speak peace over every

  307. mind in every life here today. Amen, So I want

  308. to ask you to stand with me. Hallelujah, hallelujah. Ak Jesus, hallelujah.

  309. Do you believe him? Do you believe in his power?

  310. Why don't we take a moment right now before we

  311. move on. I wonder if we could take a moment

  312. to just close our eyes, and I want us to

  313. declare our faith and our belief in his power. Hey, man,

  314. why don't you just talk to him right now? Make

  315. a declaration. Lord. I place my trust in you. Lord.

  316. I believe in your word. I believe in your power

  317. to speak peace over my life. I believe in your

  318. power and your ability, and your authority and your dominion hallelujah,

  319. over all of the things that go on in my life. Lord,

  320. I speak it right now. Lord, I make a claration

  321. today in this place, in your presence, Lord, that I believe,

  322. I believe in your word. I believe in your spoken word. Hallelujah,

  323. in the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.

  324. Thank you, Lord, Thank you Lord, hallelujah, hallelujah. With every

  325. eye closed. This is what I felt to do at

  326. the end of this service. Hallelujah. If you came in

  327. this morning and you have been your mind, your spirit,

  328. your soul has been in the midst of chaos and turmoil.

  329. If there's a storm brewing, if there's a storm raging

  330. in your life, a man, I want to speak peace

  331. over you right now. And if any of these define

  332. where you may be today or this week or this month,

  333. I wonder if you would lift your hands to Heaven Helenua,

  334. signifying a surrender to the power and the authority and

  335. the dominion of God Almighty, Hello, Amos, and the mighty

  336. name of Jesus. Right now, not by my power, but

  337. by your power, Saith the Lord. I speak peace over

  338. this congregation right now. I speak peace over every mind

  339. in the name of Jesus. Or every lie of chaos,

  340. I rebuke it in the name of Jesus, every lie

  341. of the enemy and of Hell, I rebuke right now

  342. in the name of Jesus. And by the power of

  343. the Blood of Jesus Christ, I speak peace, and I

  344. lose peace in this building and in every life, and

  345. in every heart and every mind and every soul and

  346. every spirit. God Still, those raising waves of every storm

  347. right now, that's raaking havoc in every life and every

  348. heart and every mind. In the name of the Lord

  349. God Almighty. I speak it in Jesus' name, hallelujah. Why

  350. don't you raise your voice right now and receive the

  351. peace of God that passes understanding in this place. Hallelujah,

  352. in the Mighty name of Jesus. Hello, Moo shanda yaha,

  353. in your precious and holy name, in the mighty name

  354. of the Lord. Hallelu hallelu hallelu yah. Yes, Lord, we
