The Wheat and The Weeds || Pastor Diego Mesa

Welcome to the ALSC podcast. Here at ALC, we seek the loss,

teach the found, and send the disciples. We truly hope you're encouraged by

this week's message. I want to do a little bit of an expository teaching.

This is a little bit of an ecclesiastic seminary Bible School type of teaching,

but I'm gonna break it down so that it's very very applical, applicable

in our lives, and not just bringing information and contact and knowledge, but

true application for our lives. Father, thank you for the few moments.

Would we depend on the Holy Spirit. There are needs here. You know

what these needs are. There will be needs tomorrow. You know what we're

facing. And I pray for this word to be very very relevant for people's

lives. Holy Spirit, Would you do what only you are capable of doing

and break this word down to people today that they could live it out in

Jesus' name. Amen, would you stand for the reading of God's Word today?

And we're going to start off here in Matthew thirteen and verse thirty six,

Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house, and his

disciples came to him. Saying, explain to us the parable of the terrors

of the field. He answered, and said to them, he who sows

the good seed is the son of man. The field is the world.

The good seed are the sons of the kingdom. The terrors are the sons

of the wicked. The enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest

is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. Therefore

the terrors are gathered and burned into the fire. So will be at the

end of this age the Son of men will send out his angels. They

will gather out his gather out of his kingdom all of the things that offend

and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire.

There will be there will be, there will be wailing and gnashing of

teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the son and the kingdom of

their father. He who has an ear to hear, let him hear.

You may be seated. We're going to talk a little bit. They read

to you the version from the New King James, but we'll break it down

from another version in a minute. But I want to talk about the story

or the parable that you just read of the wheat and the weeds. Old

King James says, terrors, But it's really weeds that he's talking about.

It's a darn now, which very much looks like wheat, but it's a

weed. So right here, I have something in my hand. This in

my left hand is a weed. In my right hand is an herb.

This is not good, this is good, This is unproductive. This is

productive. But oftentimes, like in your vegetable garden or where your bushes are

and your trees are, these things seem to grow side by side, and

sometimes it's very difficult to tell the difference between the two. And sometimes if

you plant a vegetable garden and you see all of a sudden your vegetables or

whatever you're going starting to sprout, you also see weeds next to it.

And there's a tendency to want to pull the weeds. But sometimes they're so

close to the vegetable or the fruit or whatever you sometimes can pull them out

together. Are you with me today? So I want you to recognize that's

what we're talking about today, the story of the wheat and the weeds.

Now, I'm not talking about the kind you smoke, okay, but the

kind that's really in the ground that can hinder a harvest, or can bring

about crop failure, or could stop your prayers from being answered, or for

you to have godly success in your life. All of that is a great

picture of what we're talking about. But first, let's let's do a little

bit of an explanation of what you just read in the text. In the

text, there's clearly there's a difference between Jesus and the devil. They're mentioned.

There's a difference between believers and unbelievers. They're mentioned. There's a difference

between between a child of God and a child of an enemy. It's mentioned.

There's a difference between judgments and rewards, punishments and blessings. And in

this parable, there is a profound regret that takes place for one person where

there is an overwhelming, profound relief for the other person. That's the Bible,

guys, and the Bible says for those outside of Christ, there's going

to be a whole lot of weeping for eternity and a whole lot of gnashing

of teeth. And I'm not saying that with any sense of anger or judgment

other than mercy. We've got to share the Gospel with those people that don't

understand that there is coming that one day. Three people say Amen, But

it's the Bible. It's the Bible. Weeds are bothers, some in our

lives, the bother some in our garden. Weeds are annoying in our lives,

and weeds can be a new sum And I'm not talking about Gavin.

So let's move on. Here's the first breakdown that you and I could look

at. So now I'm gonna go now to chapter thirteen and verse twenty four.

Because now Jesus doesn't do this often. He doesn't explain the parable.

But in this parable of the wheat and the weeds, he gives a level

of explanation. But here's how it started off as well. Look at it.

Another parable he put forth to them, saying, the Kingdom of Heaven

is like a man who sowed good seeds in his field, but while he

slept, he was sleeping his enemy, the enemy, and sewed terrors.

Sowed wheat, I mean, sold weeds among the wheat, and went his

way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced began to produce a crop,

then the terrors also appeared. Notice when they appeared, so The servant

of the owner came and said to him, sir, did you excuse me,

did you not sew good seed in the field? How then does this

weed, this terror, this bad thing in our lives, this unfortunate thing?

How then does it? How did does it? How did did it

happen? How did it come? And he said to them, an enemy,

that's how it happened, has done this. The servant said to him,

do you want us then to go and gather them up or pull them

up the weeds? But he said, say this one word with me.

No, Okay, you guys, I don't know where you've been tonight,

but you you're in church now, you're in the presence of God. Be

a little bit more enthusiastic. Don't have given the world your job or your

pleasure the best emotion and then come to church and give God you're left over.

So say one more with me. What does this word say? Very

very important because most of us would have thought he said yes, or would

have said yes, because I would have done that, and you would have

done that. I would have went to my garden right away and pulled out

that weed. But he said, no, we're quick to pull out the

weeds. And sometimes God says no. And now that I got you confused,

you'll stay awake to understand the explanation. But he said no less,

while you gather up the terrors the weeds, you also uproot the wheat with

them. Let both grow together until the harvest. And at that time of

the harvest, I will say to the reapers, first, gather together the

weeds and bind them in a bundle. And here's what you're gonna do with

those weeds. You're gonna bind them in a bundle. You're gonna gather them,

and you're gonna burn them. But gather the wheat into my barn.

And that's where it ends. So let's look at these five things that you

and I can apply in our lives. Here are five principles taken from this

parable of the weeds and the wheat. Say it with me, weeds and

wheat. Okay, kingdom people or kingdom minded people, so good. See

that's the first point. Kingdom minded people, Christians, kingdom people sow good

seeds. Their life is about sowing, giving, planting, investing, scattering,

spreading, distributing good good everywhere, that which is wholesome, that which

is healthy, that which is productive and that which is righteous. And everything

in their life is a seed. Their words are a seed, their attitude

is a seed, their thoughts are a seed, their actions are a seed.

Their habits are a seed. They sow love, hope, and faith.

That's a seed. They sow the seed of responsibility, commitment, accountability,

and consistency. That's what they do. What am I trying to tell

you tomorrow's harvest and tomorrow's crops in your life comes from today's sowing. I

want you to recognize the harvest you have today is because of what you sewed

yesterday, and the harvest that you want for tomorrow is what you sew today.

And no matter what weeds that you don't want in your life, the

reality is is you could change the outlook of your life, the harvest and

the crop in the field of your life by today's starting to sow good seeds

into your life rather than bad seeds. It's reversible, and we ought to

say, thank God, as long as I have breath, it's reversible.

My marriage could change, my finances could change, my health could change.

My emotional and mental health can change. I just have to start sewing good

seeds. We had amazing meeting last night with the five hundred men that were

here, and praise God for that. I believe it all my heart.

Men are being touched and ministered to and fabriglassted that on a Tuesday night five

hundred guys would show up. That's a new season. That's a passing.

Kitty knows what I'm talking about. There'd be a time when we have a

men's fellowship on a Saturday morning and do raffles and feed them with food and

have party gifts for them. And we're lucky if we got a couple hundred

men. Now on a Tuesday night after work their work, you got five

hundred men showing up. God's doing something that's amazing. But afterwards, a

younger man. Everybody seems to be younger now to me, but he seemed

to be maybe I don't know, I don't want to give too much away,

but he was younger than me. And he was talking about just simply,

you know, a little bit of work and a little bit of his

finances and a little bit of his marriage. And he kept saying, it's

tough, man, it's hard. And I'm sure he didn't say's tough.

He said it's hard. It's hard, it's hard. What do you want

me to how can you help me? It's hard. Here's what you need

to first start doing. Stop saying it so hard. Stop saying it so

hard, and to see. Because he's been sowing bad seeds, he's been

reaping that. But you start sowing some good seeds out of your mouth and

out of your attitude, and out of your habits, and out of your

lifestyles and out of your disciplines, you're gonna start getting a good harve it.

The Bible says, is there anything too hard for the Lord? So

it speaks opposite when you say, oh, it's hard to be a Christian,

it's hard to live holy, it's hard to forgive. Well, God

doesn't seem to say it. Outside of God, everything is hard. But

with God and in God, it's not that hard. It may be hard

to your flesh, and that means your flesh has gotta die if it's so

hard for you. But the Bible says, the spirit is willing, but

that flesh he's weak, sometimes absolutely weak. Sometimes I don't do it often.

I used to do it much more, but I don't do it often,

but I every once in a while, I'll plant some vegetables in the

garden, and I've never gone back there and been surprised, and say,

where did this watermelon come from? Look at that I got six watermelons.

Where did it come from? How many of you know it's not gonna happen

because I didn't plant and sew no watermelons. But when I go back there,

and I could go back there right now and I could see carrots coming,

I said, I remember, I planted you six months ago. I

expected you that it's not unexpected for me to see you. And that's the

way our lives ought to be. If our marriages are good, then that's

because we sow good See. It may have taken six months, six years,

or sixty years, but at least I'm getting what I want. So

we recognize that the Kingdom of God functions with us sowing good seed. The

second thing, when something is going good, watch this one. Be alert

and watchful that the devil will try to sabotage and to steal your harvest.

He's gonna start messing and he's gonna start stirring things up, and he's gonna

start sabotizing your harvest. Notice that this is where the weeds starts showing up.

When it started to produce a harvest. When we start to sprout,

boom, all of a sudden, here came the weeds. And the moment

you make a decision to follow Christ, to surrender your life to God,

to serve God, to deny your flesh, to come out from the past

sins of your life, then all of a sudden you recognize there is a

devil. When I was a sinner, I didn't even know there was a

devil. Now, all of a sudden, I'm serving God and it seems

like, oh, Hell is breaking loose against me. That's a sign of

the enemy's presence that wants to steal the good harvest of what God is about

ready for you to reap in your life. When you're on the verge of

a breakthrough, when you're on the verge of a miracle, when you're on

the verge of God doing something supernaturally, you think the devil, the enemy

is just gonna sit back and let it happen, or he's gonna start sowing

things into your mind. He's gonna start bringing temptation your way. He's gonna

try to get you to divert from this new path. I'm preaching a whole

lot better than your amen in me tonight. You need to be aware of

that, the Bible says in Galatians, and let us not lose heart and

grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time

at the appointed season, we shall reap if we do not loosen or relax

our courage and fate. Another translation says, and don't allow yourself to be

weary in planting good seeds. Don't stop for the season of reaping the wonderful

harvest you've planted. It's coming. Tell somebody it's coming. But I gotta

keep planting. So I want you to recognize the fact that the enemy and

you need to be watchful, and you need to be alert that when you

make draw a line in the sand and make a commitment for Christ, the

enemy is going to show up, and he's going to try to sabotage your

harvest. So all of a sudden, now jealousy will rise, and strife

will rise, and division will rise, and disunity will rise, and all

of a sudden, discouragement will come into your life, and all of a

sudden you'll be distracted in your life, and all of a sudden you'll start

doubting. All of those are weeds that the enemy is sowing into your life.

Three amazing deeds that the enemy is doing to still people harvest. He

brings discouragement your way, he brings distraction your way, and he wants you

to start doubting whether God heard your prayer, or whether you're really saved,

or whether this prayer is really going to be answered. But wat's this.

Don't be found sleeping. Don't be found sleeping, because this story says and

while he was sleeping, the enemy came and sewed. Oh oh, how

many of you know that some sleeping is good, but then some sleeping is

bad? Okay, So he's talking symbolically. Don't fall asleep. Don't fall

asleep, because when you fall asleep, that's when the enemy gets active in

your marriage and in your health and in your finances. When you are asleep.

How many of you know when you're asleep, you can't naturally defend yourself.

You can't see nothing, you can't hear nothing. And I know some

of you sleep sound because we could hear you snore it. I mean,

a locomotive training can go through your house and you don't hear it, and

the devil gets busy. When Christians are sleeping, naive, neglectful, complacent,

lazy, passive, you're sleeping, Ephesian says, for what makes everything

visible is light. Therefore it is said, get up, sleeper and rise

from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. I want you to

recognize. Let's just look at it symbolically. The disciples were sleeping when they

should have been praying. Samson was sleeping on Delilah's lap rather than walking in

his calling. Jonah was sleeping in the boat instead of repenting, and General

Cessar was sleeping while j L puts a tent peg through his head. For

examples of Christians that should not be spiritually sleeping. You are to be alert

and watchful, and one of the greatest things to keep you awake is absolutely

your prayer life. Your prayer life. I'll never forget. I was in

a I was sitting around a table many years ago on a corporate meeting,

and we were trying to resolve and we were trying to solve something and everybody

was giving their input on the matter, and we were we were just you

know, in the war room, trying to resolve this, and uh,

you know, in between somebody taking a breath or the next person speaking and

sharing their opinion, we we we heard like a snore going on. But

then, you know, we kept going because we you know, we look

around and everybody was engaged and everybody was looking, and so we'd go on

and we'd go on, and then you know, there'd be a next break

and then the snoring would come back, and we look around everybody, and

one person in the meeting was sound asleep, but they slept with their eyes

open. It was the most weird, eeriest thing I've ever seen. I

had never seen anybody sleep with their eyes open. And that's the way so

many Christians are. You're sleeping, but your eyes are open, and you

don't even know what's going on. How the devil is still in killing and

destroying or bringing discouragement in your way, distracting your way and doubt your way,

and he's still in your harvest. And you think he can't because your

eyes are open. But the reality is is you're sleeping, and that's the

way the enemy works. And Second Corinthians is a great scripture. Second is

a great I'm not sorry. Second Samuel Sacond Samuel is a great scripture.

Again, the enemy is always going to try to sabotage your harvest. When

you start sowing good seeds. Watch out. When the Philistines heard that David

had been anointed? What king? Who are the Philistines? The archenemy of

Israel? But when the Philistines heard that David had been promoted, that David's

being blessed, that there's increase happening in his life, good things are happening

in their lives. The Philistine heard it, they all went in search for

David. They showed up. The devil shows up when God's people are about

ready to be promoted or blessings are coming your way, he's going to try

to come and distract and discourt and try to bring some doubt. Weed people

say, weed people. I'm not talking about marijuana people now, weed listeners.

Weed people can be undetectable, camouflage, stealth pretenders. They can act

like friends and brothers and sisters until your harvest starts coming in and then they

start revealing themselves. Oh I just slapped somebody right now, just for that.

Say, as long as you're struggling, they're your friend. But the

moment you start getting blessed, they starts showing their true colors. They could

be like they could be like wolves in sheep's clothing sometimes, And that's the

way it is with these weeds. They look very much like the wheat or

the earb. So they know our Christian language, they know our lingo,

they know scripture, they know how to say Hallelujah, Praise the Lord,

thank you Jesus. But they're weeds in your life. And a lot of

single men and women have fallen for the weeds thinking it's wheats because they could

say a Hallelujah and a Praise the Lord. A lot of people have entered

into business partnership because someone said they're a Christian. But weeds will eventually show

their colors. I'm gonna tell you what'll bring it out, what'll bring it

out, what'll bring out the weed in you? What it'll bring out the

weed in someone else? And I ain't talking I'm not talking about that.

He finally woke up thirty minutes into the message. They have a way of

exposing themselves, showing themselves and revealing themselves and often telling on themselves. But

the reality is is that they can easily blend in, and we cannot be

deceived by the weeds. Judas was a weed, but when it came to

money, he exposed himself. So that was his trigger. All the hallelujah,

the miracles, the signs and wonders. I'm down for that. But

the money, money, money, money, I'm gonna get me paid.

I'm won't get me some the weeds start showing up. I'm trying. Absalom.

Absalom can act like a wheat, but the weed starts showing up when

he wants a position of authority, when he wants to call the shot,

when he wants to be in curcil, when he thinks he's unjustly treated,

Here comes the weed in him. Until then he's a Hallelujah Christian. He's

quiet, he's meek, Oh hit the fel. He's a wheat. But

the weed will will come out of him. When David did what he did

with his granddaughter Bathsheba, and he never forgave David for that, And he

waited, and he waited for the opportune time that thing festered in him,

and it came in him. The weed came out of the ten spies.

They didn't want change they were. They were wheat until we were going forward.

We're gonna change. We got to get rid of this fear. They

want didn't want to go forward. So the weed came out. You're not

gonna forget this message and GAHESI is a wheat until the weed of greed.

And I want the attention now, I want the rewards of Elyshah and I'm

not getting them. Give me a little glory too now, and then I

play a part in his success, and the weed comes out. The weed

often comes out when we're When a person is corrected, you'll see their true

colors. When they're confronted, you'll see their true colors. When they're asked

to change, you'll see their true colors. When they're asked to cease and

cease to stop doing something, you'll see their true colors. And when they're

asked to raise their level of commitment, you'll see their true colors in them.

That was good. Weat people. Let's talk about weak people now.

We people need to learn who how to live in close proximity to the weed

people. Man, I just feel like slapping somebody. This is so good.

I had to take up another offering right now because we people need to

learn how to live in close proximity to the weed people. Well, just

let them go to hell, let them get fired off my job, let

them get evicted and move out of my neighborhood, kick them out of the

church, move them out of my family. See that, that's all you

want to resolve. God said, I've allowed them. That's why I said,

you want me to say no. I'm not saying no. I'm saying,

allow them to grow next to you. Stay with me. Fifty percent

of you got at the other fifty percent don't know what I'm saying yet,

get them out, rip them out, pull them out. God said,

no, lem alone, I'm gonna allow them to be there. But there's

a plan behind that. So I want you to recognize God will allow that.

God wants tension in your life times, He'll allow the tension in your

life. He'll allow the turmoil something. See, we don't believe that God

will allow tension in our lives, and we don't believe that God will allow

turmoil in our lives by the weeds of what they do to us sometimes.

But you've got to learn how to let God remove them, not you.

Let God protect you. Let God judge them. Let God use you as

a light to the weeds, and let God develop the fruit of the spirit

in you called love, joy, peace, and long suffering through being around

the weeds. I've had weed neighbors. God get them out of my neighborhood.

But God said, We're going to develop your prayer life through the weeds.

We're gonna develop your love life through the weeds. We're gonna develop your

patience, your long suffering, your mercy through the weeds. We're gonna develop

your witness and your light through the weeds. I would work with coworkers that

were weeds. Fire them, God, get them off the job. But

again God had a plan. God had a plan that I didn't always understand.

See, you recognize and we know the teaching that a diamond is extremely

valuable. But diamond is nothing more than a hunk of coal that stays in

the ground and under that pressure it's shaped into a diamond. And if God

removes all the pressure from your life, you'll never produce diamonds. You'll remain

a hunk of coal. Now listen to me. The pressure is not to

produce stress. The pressure is to produce success. Yeah yeah, hashtag that

but it's a great way to look at it. When he says, don't

pull it up, just leave it alone. Absolutely, leave them alone.

So I have a quote, and then I'll move. I'm zeroed out.

Don't let terrors be a terror to you, don't let them scare you,

and don't be scared by them. And the last one, show no mercy

to the weeds in your life. I'm talking about in you, not the

people. The weeds in you. Show no mercy. Here's what the Bible

says. I want to read you some scripture about this. The Bible says

this. Therefore, therefore, then, since we are surrounded by so great

a cloud of witnesses we have bored testimony to the truth, let us strip

off and throw aside every encumbrance and unnecessary weight and the sin which so readily,

definitely, defiantly and cleverly clings to and entangles to us. Let us

run with patience and endurance and steady active persistence, the appointed course of race

that is set before us. Show no mercy, he tells. Here's what

he tells him. Gather up those weeds, bundle those weeds, and burn

the weeds that are in our lives. Chelsea talked about those weeds in our

lives. They could be addictions, they could be bondages, they could be

compulsions in our lives. They could be negative behaviors in our lives, self

sabotaging beliefs. Let's walk in liberty of those things. So show no mercy

to the weeds inside your life for the sake of the weeds of your life.

What weeds today are in your life that are choking and stealing and limiting

your harvest. You got to get rid of all those false attractions and all

those false attachments. Now, the weeds in your life could be a bad

diet, bad eating habits, bad friendships, bad associations. Again, they

could be excuses in my life. Those are weeds. Procrastination in my life,

gossip, complaining, criticizing. All those are weeds. And the Bible

says, don't show no mercy to them, or I'm gonna draw the conclusion,

gather them, then bundle them and burn them. Don't play with them,

and don't tolerate them. I like to end with this little analogy.

How many of you know, I think there's a picture that there's a difference

between a candle and a wildfire. Do you know the difference between those two?

How many even though they both they both have a fire, they both

have lights. Okay, what keeps them burning? What keeps them burning?

Scientifically? What keeps them burning? I heard it oxygen? Right, so

two oxygen keeps them burning? Correct? All right? But how many of

you know? If I go like this to the candle, watch says,

tell me, what's gonna happen to that candle? What I blew it out?

What if I go to the one on the right and go what's gonna

happen there? The one on the left is very very fragile and the other

one on the right is very very flexible. You and I have to decide

what type of Christian we're gonna be in our lives. Am I going to

be more of the fragile one in my life? Or more of the flexible

one? Am I gonna let every wind that comes my way blow them out

my candle? Or am I gonna let it make me stronger in my life?

Father? I thank you for the message today. I pray that it

really really finds good soil in people's heart and let it be more than just

something that goes in one ear. Or out the other. This this really,

for some was an answer. It was really an answer. They've been

really praying about the wives in their lives. They've been really praying about their

crop failure and the harvests that they're not getting. And you reveal things to

us today, God, And thank you. Thank you for the for the

beauty of your word, God, the beauty of your word that's alive and

so attentive. Thank you for the for the word of God today that ministered

to us. Father, in the name of Jesus. Now, Father,

I don't know where everybody's at today with you. I don't know if they

were raised in religion, they were raised in faith, or they were they've

never been raised in faith. I don't know if they grew up as a

Muslim, or as a Hindu, or or as a Buddhist or a more

Men or or Jovah's witness, or an atheist or an agnostic. You know,

I don't know. Here's the amazing thing. God, if people genuinely

want to know the one and true and Living God, you will reveal yourself

to them. If we would seek the Lord with all our hearts, you

would reveal who you really are and you would settle the issue. So many

people would say, well, all roads lead to Rome, and all that

matters is that you believe in a higher power and a creator and a God.

And you call Christians call your God Jesus, and we call our god

Allah or Mohammed, and we call our god Hodi Christian. But you know

what, as long as you believe in a power, what reality is is

there's only one God. His name is Jesus Christ. And I'm you could

refute me all day long, and you have the right to do that.

But if you genuinely want to know who is the true and living God,

what is his name? Who is he? God will reveal himself to you.

You'll see who he is. And you'll not see that he's a rock

or a tree, or that he's air, or that he's ritualisms or ceremonialisms,

or he's a real person, a real person. And it's amazing that

this person came down to earth or most religions we have to go up to

heaven, or most religions we have to die for our God. Yet our

belief says our God died for us. It's a vast difference most religions.

People are trying to die for their God, our religion or our faith Christianity.

Our God died for us. Most people are trying to do righteous acts

to go up to God. Where our God says, you're a sinner and

you'll never reach me. So I'm going to come down to you through Jesus

Christ and walk amongst you today. Are you ready to give your life to

God? Are you ready to rededicate your life to God? Are you willing

to sell out to Him? Today? We read a beautiful passage today.

It's not made up, it's real. There is going to come an in

and there is going to come a judgment, and it may not be what

people think, and there will be levels of suffering, damnation, punishment,

and torment. And I'm not saying that happily to you. I'm saying that

with reservation to you. He gives two descriptions of what is going to happen

in eternal damnation in a place called hell. He said, there'll be eternal

weeping. That's not happy place. And there's gnashing of teeth, which means

there's so much pain and torment. You gnash at your teeth, you're grinding

your teeth and pain like when somebody has to have a wound taking care of

they put a stick and they put in their mouth to grind it to take

away the pain. Or when whenever you fall and hurt yourself, you unconconsciously

grind your teeth, and the Bible says, that's what's your somebody's future looks

like outside of me. Come to Jesus today, while there's time, give

lot your life to the Lord. Today. When I count to three,

I'm gonna invite you to raise your hand to give your life to Jesus,

to rededicate your life. Or maybe you just want to be filled with the

Holy Spirit. You want everything that God has for you to have the evidence

of speaking in tongues, the infilling of the Holy Spirit in your life.

So I've never heard anything like that. I don't know about that. Well,

we'll help you. One two you raise your hand right now. I

will pray for you. Don't be a shame. Your hand won't be the
