How you guys doing Patriot? You're feeling good? Who was
-
ready to squeeze them scriptures? Hey? What book are we in?
-
That's what I'm talking about, Mark chapter thirteen.
-
If we haven't met yet, my name is Aaron. I'm
-
your friend.
-
Get the honor to be the campus pastor here, and
-
just give a round of applause for our church so
-
far being in one book.
-
For the entire year? Has that been beneficial for you? Hey? Man? Amen?
-
Who is here?
-
Last week when Pastor Joel Home was in Mark chapter thirteen,
-
wasn't that amazing?
-
You know, I'm a.
-
Little upset with Pastor Nathan right now because he schedules
-
me right after Pastor Joel Home and then he gives
-
me a little sliver of scripture at the end. So
-
what happened is Pastor Joel he did the whole rib.
-
There's no more meat on the bone. And then so
-
now I'm just gonna put some barbecue saw'. That's what
-
That's what I got for you tonight, you guys? Okay?
-
With that, we're gonna be in Mark chapter thirteen.
-
We're gonna be in verses thirty two through thirty seven.
-
But before we go there and stand to read the scriptures.
-
I wanted to.
-
I wanted to put all families on notice. Everybody, anybody
-
know what this is? What is this online?
-
What is this? So I don't even really know about
-
this this much.
-
Well now I do, but this is an elf on
-
a shelf, and families, you have a little over two
-
months to decide what you're gonna do with your family
-
as to not have arguments with.
-
Your spouse, if that's your situation.
-
But if elf on the shelf from December one through
-
December twenty fourth, what ends up happening. When our kids
-
were smaller, we will wait till they go to sleep,
-
and we would deceive them by hiding this elf somewhere
-
in the house, and then they wake up in the morning.
-
Like, oh my god, look what the helf is.
-
And I don't know who named it elf on the
-
shelf because it's not elf on the shelf. They'll be
-
in crazy places, They'll be in toilets, they'll be on
-
your tree, they'll be in the kitchen and so forth.
-
And I don't even really know if this is for
-
the kids or if this is like competitions with mom
-
on Instagram.
-
Right, so, my wife, she sees this. He's like, I
-
think this will be cool. I'll wake up, I'll do
-
it myself.
-
But then, if you don't know my wife, what ends
-
up happening is she's a great starter, and then she'll
-
move on.
-
So what happens is the first.
-
Week of December, she's putting out elf on the shelf
-
and doing different things, taking the pictures, the girls are
-
getting up in the morning.
-
Oh my god, look at the sign. The elf is here.
-
That means Santa's closer. And I'm like, yeah, I don't
-
know if this is okay.
-
I'm a Christian, but yeah, right, So that's about the
-
first week. Now it's like December ninth, and then my
-
wife forgets.
-
But I wake up earlier.
-
Than her in the morning, and somehow she can feel
-
when I get up in the morning.
-
So I get up around five forty five.
-
She's like, hey, remember elf on the shelf. Oh, now
-
it's our responsibility. I'm getting up for devotion time. So
-
now I'm going downstairs trying to figure out a place.
-
And the kids could always know when mom does it
-
versus when Dad does it, because I'm just trying to
-
finish the task.
-
So then I'll just be like, hey, he was right
-
there by the cereal. Hey, you know.
-
But the whole point of it is is that this
-
is a sign pointing to Santa coming.
-
And the only way that.
-
We could deceive our kids with it is if they're sleep.
-
If they're awake and.
-
They catch us doing it, they know it's all fake,
-
But we deceive.
-
Them while they're sleep.
-
Why am I saying this, Well, if we stand to
-
our feet and go to Mark, there are some things
-
that Jesus wants to warn us about, and it's not
-
about being asleep.
-
It's about being.
-
Awake, because once we're sleep is easy to be deceived.
-
In signs that Santa is coming is fake.
-
But in March chapter thirteen, Jesus talks about some real
-
signs that we'll be able to see for the Son
-
that's coming, and that's real. So March chapter thirteen, verse
-
thirty two through thirty seven, I'll read from ESV.
-
It says, but concerning.
-
That day or that hour, no one knows, not even
-
the angels in heaven nor the Son, but only the Father.
-
Be on guard.
-
Keep awake, for you do not know when the time
-
will come. It is like a man going on a
-
journey when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge,
-
each with his work, and commands the.
-
Door key to stay awake.
-
Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know when the
-
master of the house will come in the evening, or
-
at midnight, or in the rooster crows, or in the morning,
-
lest he comes suddenly and he finds you asleep. And
-
what I say to you, I say to all stay awake.
-
Look to your neighbor and say, stay awake, online, stay awake.
-
Let's pray.
-
Heavenly Father, thank you for this opportunity to open your scriptures.
-
Now use your word to penetrate our hearts. I thank
-
you that will understand your scriptures by the inspiration of
-
the Holy Spirit. Convict us, challenge us, free us, kill
-
us in Jesus' name.
-
Amen, you may be seated five little chunks of verses.
-
And if I were to organize these chunks of verses,
-
mark chapter thirty two through thirty seven, I would say,
-
thirty two, verse thirty three is the play. Verse thirty
-
four through thirty six is the parable. And everynytime that
-
there's a parable, you know that there's gonna be the principle.
-
So those are the three things.
-
On how I would break it down the play and
-
the play is beyond guard. That's defense, and then the
-
offense is keep awake the parable.
-
We're going to venture to interpret.
-
This parable, but we'll do it last because in order
-
to do that, we got to look at context. But
-
we're also going to see what principle is being driven
-
Tonight in Mark thirteen is a complex chapter if we
-
allow it to be. Pastor Joe Holme did a great
-
job explaining a lot of it. But we're just gonna
-
bounce around a little bit so we can know the
-
context for the parable. But what we're talking about tonight
-
is eschatology. And eschatology is two words escatoast, which means
-
the last or the final or the end of time.
-
And logos or logio means the study of just like
-
theology is the study of God, Eschatology is the study
-
of last things. And there's three things that Jesus is saying.
-
He said it three I mean he said it three times.
-
He said you won't know when he said it three times.
-
Now you know how many people have predicted that it's
-
about to happen right here?
-
And now let me.
-
Give you one for example, there's a cat named Edgar Wisenepp.
-
He wrote a book called eighty eight Reasons Why the
-
Rapture's Coming in nineteen eighty eight.
-
You remember that, Paster Kenny. Now here's the thing.
-
The rapture didn't come in nineteen eighty eight, So then
-
he wrote a book in nineteen eighty nine, got another
-
reason didn't work, Pastor Kenny. Do you remember Harold Camping
-
twenty eleven. He was a Christian radio broadcast guy and
-
he says the end of the world is coming Judgment Day,
-
May twenty.
-
Seven, twenty eleven. Anybody's seen that on billboards that was everywhere.
-
It did not happen. And when it didn't happen, instead
-
of him saying, man I got that wrong, he said
-
it happened in the spiritual but in November is happening
-
and it didn't happen. Even recently, it was going crazy
-
on X on April eight, two thy twenty four.
-
Are you ready the raptures coming?
-
Because that's when we got our glasses and we were
-
trying to see the sun and the moon.
-
We're like, is that Jesus?
-
But if we look at the Bible, it says three
-
times you will not know when we won't know when.
-
So what ends up happening is we try to be
-
smarter than what Jesus is expected us to be, and
-
then we end up being wrong.
-
But there's something deeper that I think Jesus is trying
-
to get us to emphasize. If we squeeze a little
-
a couple of verses in Mark chapter thirteen, and then
-
we can look at the parable.
-
But let's look at here in verse one through four.
-
Let's look at what he does which actually starts this
-
conversation with the disciples. Mark chapter thirteen, verse one through four.
-
It'll be I'll read it from here. And as he
-
came out of the temple, one of his disciples said
-
to him, look, teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings.
-
And Jesus said to him, do you see these great buildings?
-
There will not be left here one stone upon another,
-
that it will not be thrown down. And as he
-
sat on the mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter
-
and James and John and Andrew asked him privately.
-
Tell us when will these things be and what will
-
be the sign?
-
Everybody say, sign when all these things are to be accomplished.
-
So the title of this message is stay awake.
-
But Jesus wants to challenge us tonight, what do we
-
staying awake for?
-
Are we staying awake to.
-
See the signs? Are we staying awake to see the sun?
-
Or is it our sin that keeps us awaken? And
-
that's what we're gonna do, is we look at a couple.
-
Of verses, because if I look at this verse, in
-
verse one through four, I can picture the disciples looking
-
at this great temple, because this great temple.
-
Gave national pride for the Jews. It was a center
-
of religion.
-
It was something great, and they're like, wow, this is
-
a sign of.
-
The presence of the Lord while they're walking with the Lord.
-
So notice in verse I think three, it says that
-
he went on the other side, opposite the temple. It's
-
kind of what he did in John chapter four. And
-
then if you guys know that story the woman in
-
the at the well, the woman was at the well
-
with natural water and.
-
Jesus will sit right next to it.
-
Which one do you value more natural water or me
-
as the living water?
-
Or just like John chapter.
-
Six, he would give thousands of people bread and fish,
-
and as they're eating bread.
-
He's saying, I'm the bread of life.
-
This is kind of what he's doing here in Mark
-
chapter thirteen, where he's saying, this is who I am.
-
I'm the sun. That's only a sign. That sign is
-
gonna be destroyed. But I am the Temple. I am
-
the fulfillment. Are you staying awake to see the signs?
-
Or are you staying awake to see the sun? A
-
lot of times I've been in Christian circles will people
-
do a lot of study about the signs, And I've
-
learned that the smarter we are with people, sometimes it's
-
easier to hide that we're not surrendered to Jesus.
-
So if I just get.
-
More intellectual about scripture, that doesn't necessarily mean.
-
That my values are changing. That's right, right.
-
So I could talk of all these hypotheticals about what I.
-
Think these things mean. But if it's not drawing me
-
closer to Jesus, what am I really doing? John chapter
-
five talks about that.
-
He said, Hey, you search me because you think you
-
know the scriptures, But I am the fulfillment of the scripture.
-
You're missing Jesus by looking at the signs. That's what
-
Jesus tried to tell them.
-
So what I want to do here is get us
-
more acquainted with the Son.
-
And I want to I want to draw on the
-
board here.
-
Because I think a lot of us know the first
-
Coming of Jesus, but Mark chapter thirteen has a lot
-
to do with.
-
The second Coming of Jesus.
-
So I want to I want to kind of draw
-
some things on the screen. Now here's what I will say.
-
I'm about to share some things that many Christians on
-
their way to have it disagree with.
-
We're not gonna major on the miners. Let me give
-
you an example. Let me give you an example. A
-
major minor, major minor.
-
It is a major thing that my wife and I
-
should go out on dates. But you know what when
-
we go out on dates, you know what I can't
-
stand about my wife. She has the nerve to think
-
that corn tortillas are better than flower tortillas. Online, tell
-
me which ones are better corn or flower tortillas. Okay, okay,
-
make some noise for corn tortillas, Make some noise.
-
For flower tortillas.
-
Hey, we're a multiculture, multi generational.
-
Hey, somebody said you gotta be healthy. That's good. I'm
-
gonna come back to that. Okay. So what what I'm
-
gonna do? How do I do it? Okay? Yeah, what
-
I'm gonna do is I'm.
-
Gonna talk about the first Coming. Hey, don't don't laugh
-
at my drawings either, please, And then we got the
-
second coming. Okay.
-
Now here's a lot of things that we do agree with.
-
Let's talk about the first coming.
-
Okay, because right now we're talking about seeing the sun.
-
Okay, the sun came in a manger, stone manger. Here's
-
the baby Jesus. This baby Jesus. I told you. Okay,
-
we're all in agreement. So far Jesus. Jesus came from
-
living the earth.
-
Now we're gonna fast forward about thirty three years died
-
on the cross. Okay.
-
Then here's the tomb he resurrected, where no hate. Man.
-
I think that's pretty good.
-
I mean, okay, everybody, everybody good, come on, man, Okay.
-
Then after that, now he's King Jesus, right, happy, all right,
-
this is Jesus, right, and come on, man, I think
-
you're learning low key too. Okay, So this is King Jesus.
-
And then what King Jesus does is he goes to heaven, right,
-
and then he promised the Holy Spirit.
-
But the Holy Spirit came in the wind, you know,
-
and it looks like a dove.
-
So here's a dove, okay, Okay. Then so then Holy
-
Spirit comes and here's the church. Okay, here's Patrio, here's
-
the door, and then here's.
-
You, pastor Kenny.
-
Since you laughing at me, okay, says okay, I think
-
we all know this. Okay, Now, who wants to come
-
up here and talk about the second coming?
-
Somebody said, I got.
-
You, and here's what it was for me for years.
-
Man, really foggy.
-
I just know that I go to church, and when
-
I die, I'm gonna go to heaven.
-
And when people will talk about.
-
Esca top esca, I don't even know a schatology, When
-
people will talk about the millennial period, when people will
-
tell I don't my sins are forgiven right and as
-
long as my sins are forgiven, I'm gonna go to heaven.
-
And this will be very cloudy for a lot of people.
-
We know Jesus is coming back, but do we all
-
have clarity.
-
On what that's gonna look like.
-
See, we know baby Jesus, we know crucified Jesus, resurrected
-
Jesus ascended Jesus. Do we know white throne Jesus. Do
-
we know when he comes on a horse with a sword, Jesus?
-
Do we know? The millennial period? So remember we talked
-
about tortillas.
-
Right, let's talk about well, I'm gonna say I was
-
gonna say corner cheese, but let's let's just do it
-
like this. People have a position of being pre millennial.
-
This is millennial A there's a millennial period. You're gonna
-
look at Revelation nineteen through twenty to get the context
-
of what I'm saying of.
-
That thousand year period. And people are.
-
Saying pre millennial, which means that Jesus he's in heaven.
-
But if you're pre millennial and have this position, Jesus
-
is coming down, King Jesus.
-
Here is right here, he's on he's on a horse though.
-
Okay, I'm helping, y'all. Okay, So he comes down and
-
then there's this thousand year period, and then's this thousand
-
year period. Satan is gonna be bound in a pit,
-
but he's gonna come out at a time and then he'll.
-
Be crushed by Jesus or here's Jesus' feet, he'll crush.
-
Him, there's gonna be judgment, and then we're gonna live
-
forever with him and the new heavens and a new Earth. Okay,
-
that looks clear, right, Okay, there's a camp that's post millennial.
-
So if pre millennial means that Jesus is coming before
-
the thousand year period.
-
What does post millennial mean.
-
Yeah, and in this view, it means things get better
-
and better and better and better, and then we the
-
church usher in Jesus. Here's Jesus, because now the whole
-
world got the gospel. Jesus is coming in on his horse,
-
and now this thousand year period is here, and now
-
Jesus is here.
-
He crushes the enemy with his feet.
-
We have forever, guys, root me corn tortilla, flora tortilla.
-
But somebody said you got to be healthy. Somebody said
-
no tortillas. That's a millennial.
-
So homemade is fire, Homemade is fire. But that that's
-
not no Bible.
-
Okay, So I'm millennial, says, Hey, we're in the Kingdom
-
of God now. So when Jesus ascended, Jesus is on
-
the throne. We're in the Kingdom of God now. So
-
it's not really a thousand year period that's more of
-
a spiritual symbol that represents a time that we're in
-
in Jesus.
-
I'll just bring this down.
-
It's gonna come down because it's kind of similar to
-
the post millennial position, but it's just that this time
-
frame is on a thousand year period. The reason why
-
I'm taking the time to do that is because I
-
avoided this.
-
Type of language for years.
-
All I knew was this Jesus and Mark thirteen is
-
in our Bibles. So I'm just trying to do a
-
commercial to say I have you.
-
More acquainted with who this Jesus is.
-
Now for us all to be on the same page,
-
because there will be people that disagree about this that
-
will still rejoice in heaven. So what ends up happening
-
is if I know the who, I don't have to
-
get stuck on the wind.
-
I know who Jesus is.
-
This is in the Bible, so I want to get
-
more acquainted with it. But as I'm more acquainted with it,
-
I won't let the miners have me arguing with other Christians.
-
I may look at this five years from now and
-
be like, what.
-
Was I doing?
-
Because we grow as Christians and we got to allow
-
people to be in their faith journey. But as you
-
grow in your faith journey, sometimes you're gonna need more
-
than just baby Jesus.
-
You're gonna need to need more than crucify Jesus. The
-
fog that's going on in our life.
-
If we start clearing this up, it'll give more color
-
to what we read. And faith comes by hearing hearing
-
the word of God.
-
Does that make sense?
-
So if we know this, this is really cool to
-
know because we'll come back to that later. But at
-
the same token, we're recognizing that Jesus is saying, I'm giving.
-
You some signs only to point to the sun.
-
So let's look at another case study Mark chapter thirteen,
-
verse twenty four through twenty six.
-
This is helpful for you, guys.
-
Okay, March chapter thirteen, verse twenty four through twenty six.
-
Watch this, watch his signs, right, he says, But.
-
Let me see.
-
Let's do that, it says, But in those.
-
Days after the tribulation, the sun.
-
Will be darkened. That's crazy.
-
The moon will not give its light because the moon
-
gets light off the reflection of the sun.
-
And look at this.
-
The stars will be falling from heaven and the powers
-
in the heavens will be shaken, and then they will
-
see the Sun of Man coming in the clouds with
-
great power and glory.
-
Now, if I'm.
-
Focused on the signs, the whole thing I'm thinking is.
-
Like, wait, what the Sun's gonna be dark?
-
So then when I go and try to try to
-
charge my tesla and it doesn't work, oh that's a sign.
-
That's a sign something's going on with the sun. I'm
-
going to the beach with my wife. You're using that
-
sun block, Well, you know the sun's gonna be darkened.
-
Where's your faith? I'm only looking at the signs. But
-
what is saying is, hey, there will be some signs.
-
If I look at the signs, what are the signs.
-
That everything that I look to for natural light I
-
can't look to for natural light. And then I see Jesus.
-
What is the spiritual application of that? Whenever it gets
-
dark in your life, don't look to the world. Look
-
to the sun when it's dark. Then you will see
-
the sun. So as long as I'm looking to the sun,
-
it doesn't matter what the signs look like. But we're
-
building the case of what Jesus is doing because in
-
verse one through four, Hey, this temple's gonna be destroyed.
-
What is he doing in verse twenty four through twenty six,
-
He's saying the sun, the moon, and the stars are
-
going to be destroyed.
-
Because what is he saying in verse thirty one. Let's
-
go to verse thirty one.
-
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words won't
-
pass away. Do you want the sign or the sun?
-
And we know that the Sun is the word of God?
-
So what Jesus is trying to convey?
-
No matter how you interpret Revelations nineteen through twenty, no
-
matter how you look at pre millennial, post millennial, whenever
-
it's dark in your life, you can see the sun
-
and the Sun is coming for you. So when we
-
read the scriptures, we're not trying to be smarter about
-
the signs.
-
We're trying to be surrendered to the sun. Does that
-
make sense? I give a practical example of that.
-
I live in Ontario and there was two earthquakes that
-
happen within half hour of each other.
-
The first earthquake.
-
Happened, it was three point five magnitude. So I go
-
and I go check on my daughter's faith in Trinity.
-
You guys, good now Trinity.
-
She was like, wow, this is crazy, Dad, I said,
-
what happened?
-
She said, I had a dream it was gonna be
-
an earthquake, but I was on the toilet, ping and
-
then p.
-
Got everywhere and I'm like, word, okay.
-
So then thirty minutes later, the next earthquake come. It's
-
three point nine. So I go and check on my girls.
-
Girls you're okay. And Triny was like, oh my god,
-
Oh my god. I said, what happened? Will happen? She said,
-
another earthquake came and I wasn't on the toilet.
-
What an example of being so caught up in a
-
sign that we missed that the sun keep us safe,
-
and sometimes we miss gratitude on what's actually happening. But
-
I got a word spoken over me when I was
-
fifteen years old, and I need that to come up. Wait, wait,
-
but are you looking at that word? Are you looking
-
in this word? Because heaven and earth will pass away,
-
but God's bringing a new heaven in the earth, and
-
his word will not pass away a man. Now with
-
that context, now let's interpret the parable. You guys are
-
ready to interpret the parable thirty two through thirty seven.
-
Now what is a parable? By a round of applause,
-
let me. Know, if you went to the Bible, sprint great, great,
-
So that means you know what a parable is. It
-
means too the paera means beside or alongside. Both a
-
means throwing or placing aside. So I'm casting aside a
-
teaching to help drive a principle.
-
That's what a parable is. So if I look at
-
this parable, let's go to.
-
Verse thirty four through thirty seven and just interpret this parable.
-
Now that we have a little bit more of understanding,
-
it says, let me.
-
Let me, let me do this. Boom, you guys doing good. Okay.
-
So it is like when he says it is like,
-
you know, he's about to do a parable. Now we
-
gotta squeeze this a little bit, so we gotta pay attention.
-
It is like a man going on a journey. Sometimes
-
I read the Bible, make it about me.
-
So okay, it's me and it's my faith journey.
-
So I already have a bias, but I got to
-
just look at the Bible without bias.
-
Who is he to who is this man?
-
And when he leaves home? Yeah, I be leaving home
-
and puts his servants. Okay, wait a minute, his servants.
-
So I'm getting a clue of what Jesus is trying
-
to drive about his second coming that we looked at
-
at looked at in Mark chapter thirteen.
-
So he left his service in charge. Okay, must not
-
be me. Okay, faith and training. You don't be listening
-
to me like that. Each with his work and commands
-
the doorkeeper.
-
So this is what I do when I'm just looking
-
at the scriptures. So there's a man going on a journey.
-
He leaves, he puts service in charge to work, and
-
he commands their work as a doorkeeper to stay awake. Therefore,
-
stay awake. You don't want to know when the master
-
of the house. Ah okay.
-
So this man is a master. Now I know it's
-
not me.
-
This is like Jesus who went away, but he's coming back.
-
I'm the servant and my work is to be a doorkeeper.
-
Ah okay, okay, okay, okay.
-
And I don't know when he's gonna come when the
-
rooster comes in the morning, unless he comes suddenly.
-
He finds you asleep. And what I say to you,
-
I say to all stay away. So as I try to.
-
Interpret this, I can say, okay, you know what Jesus
-
went on a journey. We just plotted out his first
-
and second his first and second coming, he.
-
Went on a journey. He's going on a journey.
-
And as he's on this journey, I'm a servant and
-
I have work to do. It's my calling, it's my assignment,
-
that's my purpose. That's for you guys as well. But
-
it's described as a doorkeeper. So that's when we start
-
using our holy imagination and reading the Bible.
-
Slour that's a doorkeeper, doorkeeper, doorkeeper.
-
So okay, John Chapter ten, verse nine, Jesus said he's
-
the door.
-
So Jesus is the door, and I'm the doorkeeper. Okay.
-
What does door represent? Door represents entrance, door represent security, And.
-
I'm gonna keep the door. I gotta keep myself close
-
to the door. Ah, I'm hospitality. Okay, okay, okay. So
-
Jesus is the door. I'm the doorkeeper. So as long
-
as I'm close to the door, as people are coming
-
to the door, I'm inviting them into a relationship with Jesus,
-
which means that my life should shine, so people should want.
-
To see Jesus.
-
Oh that's why I need to stay awake, because if
-
I go to sleep, I can miss people that I'm
-
a call to sign to win my work. See, I'm
-
making this about the sun. I'm not making this about
-
the signs. So then if I use my holy imagination.
-
Oh wait, Genesis chapter four, verse seven. King killed Abel,
-
and he said if you do well, But he says,
-
sin is crouching at the door.
-
So Jesus is the door. We are the doorkeepers. So
-
we are the doorkeepers of the church, just like dream ting.
-
When people come in, hopefully you got a smiling face
-
and a greeting me an environment inviting you in.
-
To the door.
-
So when you enter, you have security in the presence
-
of God. Now, as I go to the door, sins
-
crouching at the door. So a sin is crouching at
-
the door, I will be tempted when I come to
-
the door to look down at my sin or look
-
up to the sun. Now I have a better understanding
-
of how I apply this in my life. This is
-
why he's telling me to stay awake, because there are
-
times where I can get tripped up by temptation and
-
be out of my post trying to fight battles that
-
aren't assigned for me to fight.
-
And now I'm not at my post. Stay awake, Stay awake,
-
Stay awake.
-
There are so many temptations for distractions that stop us
-
from being a doorkeeper, and we want to ask ourselves
-
the question.
-
Last week, Pastor Joe said today, Lord, Today, Lord.
-
So if that is the case, you got to ask
-
ourselves the question, if Jesus were to come right now,
-
what do we want him to find us doing.
-
That's why he's saying that we have work to do.
-
Doesn't that bring more emphasis to our coworkers.
-
To our spouse. I want to be found by Jesus
-
loving my wife, loving my kids.
-
I want to be found by Jesus being kind to
-
my enemies.
-
What about you? But there's so many.
-
Times when we get tempted and we get away from
-
the door that we haven't kept the commitment that we
-
have to Jesus. And that just brings color to us
-
as we conclude this discernment tonight.
-
Because the person who ghost rolle this is Peter.
-
Peter is the one that is giving Mark the plays
-
to write, and Peter being the first, Peter, being the
-
first pastor, would have an understanding of what it's like
-
it's supposed to be at your post and go away
-
from your post. So as we conclude, when you stay awake,
-
one of the reasons why you're staying.
-
Awake is because you're looking at your sin. And as
-
we look at our sin, sometimes we may feel like
-
we're too far from the sun.
-
And when we feel like we're too far from the sun,
-
the only thing that we would want, I just need
-
a sign. So if that person treats me better, I
-
must be in good graces with God. If I get
-
this job, I must be in good graces to God,
-
if I get this compliment. And we look for signs
-
because we're staying awake from our sin. Peter Will Peter
-
Will relate to that he was supposed to be a
-
doorkeeper with Jesus.
-
I'm ready to die for you, Jesus. But when it
-
got hard and you got the temptation, he said, I
-
don't even.
-
Know who Jesus is, and I know I get tempted
-
to be like that. And this is not saying that
-
I say, or you say, I'm not a Christian, not
-
saying that that.
-
We do that.
-
But could it be that we deny Jesus and how
-
we treat people that we say we love because we're
-
not as bold to say I don't know Jesus. We
-
have the liberty of living in a free country when
-
we can say that, But we also have the liberty
-
of flipping.
-
Somebody off when they cut us off. That's denying Jesus.
-
We have the liberty of staying silent when we're doing
-
our emotions, or we got the liberty to really share.
-
All of our feelings.
-
Doorkeeper, doorkeeper, if we are next to the door and
-
we recognize that he keeps us. Let us be an
-
example that can invite others to have an invitation for Jesus.
-
So Peter, when he was at his worst, Jesus still
-
offered him his best. Peter gave up on Jesus, and
-
Peter would be known as the first pastor. And that
-
should give us all hope that no matter how far
-
you've gone from the sun, he stretches his hands out
-
to you right now. So I would invite everybody to
-
bow their heads and close their eyes for a moment.
-
So we looked at Mark chapter thirteen.
-
We talked about some abstract concepts, hopefully gave you more
-
interest in knowing about the Bible. We also want to
-
drive the point of has your sin been causing you
-
to stray from the Sun. There's hope for you tonight.
-
It starts with the prayer, and prayer directs our attention
-
to the son. Peter would be confronted with that in
-
John chapter twenty one, where he failed, he was at
-
his worst, and Jesus would meet him where he was at.
-
That's called compassion, and that same compassion Jesus offers to you.
-
He doesn't want to talk about the sin right now.
-
What he just wants to talk about as your surrender.
-
Would you be courageous enough to confess that you may
-
not have a.
-
Relationship with Jesus yet, would.
-
You be courageous enough to confess that maybe you have
-
been looking at the signs and not looking at the sun,
-
looking at good things happening to your life, and that's
-
like a sign to.
-
You that you have a relationship with Jesus. No, you
-
having a relationship with Jesus. Me having a relationship with
-
Jesus start.
-
With saying, Hey, I confess that I'm a sinner and
-
I believe in the Gospel and the Gospels the good
-
news that Jesus lived the life that I couldn't live,
-
died the death that I deserve, and is seated on
-
the throne and he's my advocate in heaven for me.
-
And then I live a life according to the value,
-
believing that I'm.
-
Worth dying for. So what your head bowed and your
-
eyes closed? If you haven't made that decision.
-
Yet, we invite you tonight to make Jesus Christ the
-
lord of your life.
-
Or you've already made that decision years ago. You know
-
Mark chapter thirteen. You know Peter's story. But there are
-
things that have happened in your life.
-
That cause you to stray from the door. Jesus has
-
an open door policy. You could come right back to
-
him as you are. And as you come back to
-
him and experience his compassion that influences you to continue
-
your faith journey. So I would invite us all to
-
pique this prayer, to encourage those that are praying this
-
prayer for the first time to give your life to
-
Jesus or to continue your faith journey with Jesus. Say
-
this woman, Please, Dear Lord Jesus, I confess that I'm
-
a sinner, but I thank you for dying on the
-
cross for all of my sin. From this moment forward,
-
you are my savior and my Lord.
-
Teach me to trust you.
-
With my decisions, guide me with the right community to
-
help me to follow you.
-
In Jesus' name,
