  1. Oh, what a mistake?

  2. Had man come into the movies today?

  3. The end of the week.

  4. Everybody's here, but of course they are.

  5. How hard is it to order food?

  6. You know, there's only a few items. You get some popcorn,

  7. you get some soda, you get some candy. It's going

  8. me look like you shouldn't have any candy. Maybe he's

  9. off on the suitets, you know what I mean?

  10. Look at this line. What a waste of my time?

  11. Oh you don't know what I'm.

  12. Doing here previewsly like forty five minutes anyway, a waste. Now,

  13. these people need to learn how to order their food.

  14. You know, you go up, you.

  15. Pick out what you want, You give them your.

  16. Money, credit card, right, your PayPal, whatever it is. You

  17. take your stuff and you take your seat.

  18. It's not that hard.

  19. You give it to the dumb gen z working behind

  20. the register, who probably doesn't even know how to count

  21. the money anyway, because they got no initiative. That's the problem.

  22. That's the reason we're in line, because the kid behind

  23. the counter doesn't know what they're doing. Come on, what's

  24. the matter with you?

  25. Excuse me who said that you got a problem? You

  26. got a problem?

  27. Is it you who's got you got a problem with me?

  28. Is there a problem?

  29. Huh?

  30. It doesn't sound like there's a problem, because I don't

  31. hear you saying anything now, huh, your keyboard warrior, Yeah,

  32. you're a big man. You'll show your face next time,

  33. all right. And by the way, the popcorn is burning.

  34. I don't know if you're aware of that. Do you

  35. not know how to cook popcorn?

  36. It's really easy.

  37. You put oil in the pan and corn.

  38. That's it.

  39. That's the recipe. Your people don't smell this.

  40. You don't smell the burning popcorn though nothing. Do you

  41. believe this? You see this? You okay with this?

  42. I can smell it from here?

  43. Are you growing the popcorn? Back there? Let's go.

  44. You burn the popcorn like that, It defeats its own purpose.

  45. What are you staring at a little too smiling?

  46. All right? All right? Who said that?

  47. Let me see your face? Come on, show me your face.

  48. Come on, come on, I want to see you. Come on,

  49. come on, give me a reason. I'll break your legs.

  50. I'll put them back together. I'll break them again. How

  51. about that. Look, I'm on my knees. I'm begging you.

  52. Give me a reason. On my children's lives. All right,

  53. I will sacrifice a year of my life just for

  54. you to say that one more time than my face.

  55. Come on, nobody, nothing, Yeah, get out your phones, make.

  56. Me go viral, make me a star.

  57. Uh maybe you come see me in the movies. How

  58. about that?

  59. How about that?

  60. Hey that's what I thought. Yeah, I'm going, I'm going.

  61. It's my time now, all right, I'm up here. Now

  62. my time to order, thank you?

  63. All right?

  64. I want to get a small popcorn and a uh

  65. wait a minute. How much more is the large?

  66. Fifty cents?

  67. All right, that's you know, the large is what a

  68. medium used to be. By the way, Yeah, that's why

  69. everybody's yeah exactly. Some of these people don't need the candy,

  70. you know what I mean. Right, don't worry about it.

  71. I'll get a large, no scratch that. Give me the

  72. hot dog, yeah you know what, And now forget the

  73. hot dog. Too many nitrates. Give me give me a water,

  74. take of water, and uh, nachos.

  75. That's good.

  76. Can you hurry up please?

  77. All right?

  78. Thanks?

  79. Unbelievable. And now preview time. That's good. Oh that's great.

  80. Your talk the all time.

  81. Well, it's just good doing it, you know. It's fune.

  82. That's good.

  83. Yeah, hey, in a business meeting throwing a movie.

  84. That's great. It's forty minutes of previews.

  85. Okay, really.

  86. How did they get these made? I mean, who's paying

  87. for this? Now?

  88. There's fifty five production companies, there's ten production companies.

  89. Where does the movie start? Oh?

  90. Look there's the.

  91. Logo now of the companies that you.

  92. It's what is this? What are we?

  93. What are we doing here with this?

  94. Like?

  95. What do we? Wow?

  96. Wow?

  97. Is it a garbage bag full of popcorn? Really? Yeah?

  98. Did you buy all the popcorn?

  99. No? Just just home off?

  100. Can you can you clear your throat like a little

  101. well quieter?

  102. Maybe? What do what? Do? Who eat? Meals?

  103. They're serving meals? Just hear?

  104. Sorry, this is Anger.

  105. He will make sure the world knows Anger is in control.

  106. But what you really need to watch out for is

  107. when he's out of control.

  108. You know, between me and you, I'm kind of glad

  109. he's not in the theater anymore. Anger sure is hard

  110. to be around. Sometimes it's entertaining to watch and see,

  111. but really, when you're in the crosshairs of anger, nobody

  112. really wants to be around that. You think of many

  113. movies where anger is at the center of a person's emotion.

  114. At first the reason and the motive at which they're

  115. doing everything, Anger is at the center of it. You

  116. think of the famous movie Gladiator, where a man loses

  117. his entire family and he's angry and all he wants

  118. to do is go after Caesar and kill Caesar. All

  119. that becomes about is retribution, but by the end of

  120. it he sees a broader side of these things. Or

  121. you think of the movie The A Bruce Banner has

  122. this side of him that anger. The Hulk only comes

  123. out when he gets most angry. So and there's a

  124. famous line where he looks at some individuals and he says,

  125. you may be wondering when I turn green and how

  126. I get angry? He said, The reality is I'm always angry,

  127. and really, he says, he's always ready to go. That's

  128. really an intimidate thing to be around. Have you ever

  129. been around someone where you got to walk around on

  130. pins and needles wondering is this the moment? Is this

  131. the thing that's going to like them on fire? Is

  132. this the thing just like inside out, where the flame

  133. is gonna come out and they're gonna be angry at everyone.

  134. I kind of felt that. Not too long ago. A

  135. few months back, I was on a flight headed back

  136. home to California and there was a woman that was

  137. next to me who was probably having a little bit

  138. too many of the free drinks on the flight. By

  139. the end of the flight, she leans over at me

  140. after a five hour flight because I was working on

  141. my computer and I was working on a message, and

  142. she said, do you happen to be a Christian? And

  143. I thought, oh, this is you know, this is great.

  144. She notices I'm a Christian. It's gonna have a fun conversation.

  145. I said yes. She goes, do you happen to be

  146. work at a church? Because she saw my computer the

  147. things that I was doing. I said, yes, absolutely, and

  148. she said, please tell me your church's name so that

  149. I can never go to it. And she begins to

  150. angerly spill how she hates Christians, how she hates people

  151. who go to church. And by this time, I said, man,

  152. we've been on a five hour flight, We've had minimal talk.

  153. I don't want to argue, but there was a sight

  154. of me where I started getting a little angry because

  155. she started getting personal. And she said, by the way,

  156. if you're a Christian. You should have been talking to

  157. me about Jesus this whole flight. And I looked at her,

  158. I said, would you want me to talk about Jesus?

  159. And she said, no, I don't, And so I found

  160. that I was. I was in trouble either way. By

  161. the end of it, she says, I'm angry and I

  162. want nothing to do with people who go to church

  163. because my son recently became a Christian and I don't

  164. have a relationship with him anymore. At that point, I

  165. realized that her anger was really be fueled by something

  166. that was really personal and really painful. At that moment,

  167. I actually calmed down because I realized her offense wasn't

  168. with me. She was hurting. And a lot of times

  169. we got a pinpoint why our anger comes from where

  170. it comes from, and the only way that you can

  171. heal from anger is if you address anger head on.

  172. All right, let's continue to talk this week for at

  173. the movies. Let's talk further about anger by show hands.

  174. You know, often in church we talk about shame the

  175. devil until the truth. Okay, so I want some of

  176. y'all to shame the devil this morning, and I want

  177. to see by show of hands. If you've been angry

  178. within the past twenty four hours, raise your hand. You've

  179. been angry the past twenty four Okay, we're already at

  180. about a third of the room. With that, all right,

  181. If you've been angry within the past forty eight hours,

  182. let me see a show of hands. Okay, we see.

  183. Now we're probably about fifty percent. Let's just say, if

  184. you've been angry the past seventy two hours, the past

  185. three days, raise your hand. You've been angry. Okay. Think

  186. we're almost at seventy percent of the room. Now, let's

  187. see if you've been angry within the week, raise your hand.

  188. Let me see hand. Okay, think we're at ninety percent

  189. of the room. Okay, so we can just safely say

  190. within the past seven days, almost one hundred percent of

  191. the room has dealt with anger in some way, shape

  192. or form. Let me see any bold people in here

  193. who showed up to church angry today. By a show

  194. of hands, okay, we got some honest people, at least

  195. fifty people, and here you are. Okay. If there's any

  196. place to be angry, let it be church. Okay, But man,

  197. you see something that we all deal with on a

  198. regular basis. Some anger is sometimes justified. Other anger sometimes

  199. we could say probably isn't justified. But the reality is

  200. we struggle with it, we have to deal with it.

  201. We're going to talk about it today, hopefully in a

  202. different lens that you haven't particularly thought of before that's

  203. been in line with this series. So if you brought

  204. a Bible today, or you have it on your smart device,

  205. or you simply want to follow along on the screen,

  206. would you turn for just a few moments to Ephesians

  207. chapter four. We're going to read out of Ephesians chapter

  208. four that's in the New Testament. So so far in

  209. this series we've been in the Old Testament. I thought

  210. it'd be appropriate as we talk about anger, we talk

  211. about the New Testament, because the New Testament begins to

  212. speak about what it means to be a Christian, a

  213. believer and deal with these emotions. And the Apostle Paul

  214. particularly encourages us on how to view anger, but also

  215. what anger can lead to if we don't view it

  216. in its proper place. Ephesians chapter four, verse twenty five.

  217. If you guys are ready, would you do me the

  218. honor of standing for reading of God's word this morning today.

  219. We do that just because we want to give God

  220. our focus and make sure we're You know, whenever someone

  221. of high prominence in society comes in a room, mostly

  222. everybody stands up, and we believe that the highest thing

  223. we can read today or know today is God's word,

  224. and we stand for it. And here's what it says. Therefore,

  225. having put away falsehood, let each of you speak the

  226. truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.

  227. Be angry and do not sin. I want you to

  228. repeat that for just a moment. Be angry and do

  229. not sin. There we go. Do not let the sun

  230. go down on your anger. Next versus, and give no

  231. opportunity to the devil. So far, what we've learned is

  232. that we are encouraged to be angry and not sin.

  233. That's what we've encouraged to do. We've also been encouraged

  234. not to let the sun go down on our anger.

  235. What immediately that means is if you are angry and sin,

  236. or if you are angry and let the sun go

  237. down on your anger, then you give opportunity for Satan

  238. to use you or to abuse you, or to implicate you.

  239. And so he says let the thief no longer steal,

  240. but rather let him labor. Seems a little odd that

  241. we were talking about anger and now we're talking about

  242. a thief. There's a reason why, he says, so that

  243. he may have something to share with anyone in need.

  244. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but

  245. only such as is good for building up, as fits

  246. for the occasion, that it may give grace to those

  247. who hear and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of

  248. God by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption,

  249. the Last Peace. Let all bitterness and wrath, and anger,

  250. and clamor and slander be put away from you, along

  251. with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving

  252. one another, as God in Christ forgave you amen. You

  253. may be seated today. What I want to do is

  254. look at for just a moment that whole verse that

  255. we just read. I want you to see something that

  256. be begins to stand out. So what we've already noticed

  257. is there's an encouragement for us by Paul to not

  258. be angry. Okay, And what he doesn't want is he

  259. doesn't want our anger. We're gonna mark our Bible up

  260. for a little bit, for just a few moments. He

  261. doesn't want our anger to lead to sin. What is sin, well,

  262. according to the word of God, the word sin is

  263. to miss the mark. It's like an archer who is

  264. shooting for a target and they miss the bull's eye,

  265. and so you're missing the mark. You're missing who's our mark.

  266. Our mark is holiness in God. Our mark is God's way.

  267. And so he says, anger can make you miss the mark.

  268. And then what he begins to do is he goes

  269. to a place where then he says that and says,

  270. don't give any opportunity to the devil. But then it's

  271. odd because then he jumps over here and he says,

  272. let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him

  273. labor and do something honest. It seems a little odd

  274. that he would jump to that, but not necessarily when

  275. you put it into a picture. So what happens is

  276. now he says, so that he may have something to

  277. share with anyone, And now he goes like this, He says,

  278. let no corrupting talk come out of your mouth, okay,

  279. And then from that point Paul continues to talk and

  280. he says this, let all he says this, you are sealed.

  281. And he says, let all bitterness and wrath and anger

  282. and clamor and slander be put away from you. Okay,

  283. So you'll notice he talks about anger, He talks about

  284. not letting the sun go down on your anger. Then

  285. what does he do. He says, don't let the thief

  286. steal anymore. Then he says, let no corrupting talk come

  287. from your mouth. And then he says, and all bitterness

  288. and wrath and clamor and slander be put away. Okay,

  289. I know you're not following yet, but we're gonna get

  290. to somewhere. Now, give me the blank page. So what

  291. happens is is what happens is the apostle Paul, as

  292. he's talking in this moment, what is he talking about, Well,

  293. what he's talking about is he talks about the thief.

  294. Which what do thiefs use to steal is they use

  295. what their hands. Okay. Then when he's talking about a thief,

  296. he also encourages us that no corrupting words come out

  297. of our mouth. Well, according to the Bible, what's affected

  298. when things come out of your mouth? What will see

  299. in a few moments that out of the abundance of

  300. the mouth, the heart speaks. Okay, then what does he do?

  301. He talks about bitterness, slander, and the words often where

  302. do the words live that come out of your mouth?

  303. Will they live in your head? And so what Paul

  304. says in this moment is he says anger when you're angry,

  305. angry and anger will control your hands, your heart, and

  306. your head. So as he's talking, he says, well, what

  307. will lead you to sin? What will lead you to

  308. sin is if you allow your anger to control what

  309. you do, you will start to walk in sin. When

  310. you lat anger sit in your hearts, you will start

  311. to sin when you lat anger sit in your head.

  312. Anger is one of those emotions. Have you ever been

  313. sad before and a friend makes a joke even when

  314. you're crying and you're sad, and you'll laugh, You're like, oh,

  315. that was funny. Or you remember anxious before, and maybe

  316. you're anxious about something going on a flight or something,

  317. and then maybe you know, sometimes we'll get you know,

  318. will be up in the air and our plane will shake,

  319. and my wife will start getting anxious, and then I'll

  320. just put my hand on her hand and she'll be calm.

  321. But when you're angry, it don't matter what happens around you.

  322. You're just angry. It doesn't Anger doesn't tend to let

  323. room in for anything. You could be sad and you

  324. can still laugh. You could be anxious and you can

  325. still be calm, what somewhat. But when you're angry, you

  326. are angry because anger is one of those things that

  327. it takes control of your whole person. And so today,

  328. for the few moments that we have together, we're gonna

  329. look at each of those and we're gonna see how

  330. we can handle those. So if you're taking notes, the

  331. first one we're gonna look at is see how important

  332. it is to make sure that when we're angry we

  333. temper our hands. Want you to see this verse today

  334. that's found in Psalms, chapter seventeen, verses six to eight.

  335. It says, this I call upon you, for you will

  336. answer me. Oh God, incline your ear to hear me,

  337. hear my words, wondrously, show your steadfast love, O, savior

  338. of those who seek refuge from their adversaries, at your

  339. right hand. Keep me as the apple of your eye,

  340. hide me in the shadow of your wings. You know,

  341. if you were to do a study of the Bible,

  342. particularly the Old Testament. Every time that the Bible somewhat

  343. tries to refer to God's covering or God's leading, it'll

  344. use God's hand as an explanation. Because what happens is

  345. is when God's guiding you, there's this feeling that's god

  346. hand is with you. And so what happens is we

  347. see that the impostle Paul talks about anger and not

  348. letting it lead us to sin, and letting lead us

  349. to a place where the sun could go down. Because

  350. what will often happen is when you get angry, the

  351. first thing it'll enter is your head. And when you're angry,

  352. you continue to replay it. You replay it, you replay it,

  353. you replay it, and if you keep replaying it enough,

  354. it'll start to impact your heart. Now you actually start

  355. feeling some type of way. Now you actually start convincing

  356. yourself of an alternate reality. You start convincing yourself of

  357. how you think you really feel, or you start to

  358. convince yourself how it's justified, and you start to hold

  359. onto this end of your heart. Eventually, what will happen

  360. is it will guide to your actions, your hand and

  361. what we do know about the Word of God is

  362. what you reap, and what you sew is what you

  363. will reap. So if you start to sew anger, if

  364. you start to so arguing, if you start to sew

  365. being justified for the way that you act or what

  366. you do, then you will immediately reciprocate that what it

  367. is that you are handing out. And anger is one

  368. of those things that you will rarely find yourself winning.

  369. When you are angry, you are almost always losing because

  370. anger does that to us. It takes us to a

  371. place where it's trying to move our actions against the grain,

  372. against God's hand. And the moment we step out of

  373. God's hand and we take it into our own hands,

  374. that's often where you find yourself in a lot of trouble.

  375. So I want you to see what it looks like

  376. where it really sits in our heart, because this is

  377. something you really need healing for because the longer it

  378. lives in the heart, the longer it will control your

  379. hands and your head. So what do I do when

  380. this thing it lives in my heart? Well, Jesus tells us.

  381. According to Luke, chapter six, verse forty five, the good

  382. person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good.

  383. The evil person, out of his evil treasure, produces evil.

  384. Then he says, for out of the abundance of the heart,

  385. his mouth speaks. You know, I've done it before where

  386. I've met people or counseled people that had one too

  387. many drinks one time or many times, and they end

  388. up saying things or doing things that they say that

  389. wasn't me, that was the alcohol. And then then we

  390. always respond to say, hey, the alcohol just gave you

  391. courage to do what was inside of you. That's what

  392. it did. Nothing, It didn't force you to do nothing.

  393. You didn't black out. It just that usual that conscience

  394. that you have, that guide that you have if you're

  395. a Christian, the Holy Spirit that you have that's normally

  396. speaking to you, that's normally guiding you. Well, when you're

  397. not sober anymore, and I'm not just talking about alcohol,

  398. when you're angry and you're not sober anymore, you will

  399. act like and you will think that you can say

  400. things that justifies well, I was angry when I said that.

  401. That don't mean nothing the matter. You were angry when

  402. you say out of the abundance of the mouth your

  403. heart is speaking, so you can't say, oh, I was

  404. mad when I said that. I'm sorry if I'm stepping

  405. on some people's toes today, and I'm removing your excuse

  406. of what you use on a regular basis. But according

  407. to word God, it doesn't work. That excuse doesn't work.

  408. All you've done is you've shown your hands of card,

  409. and your hands of card is you are angry, you

  410. are hurting, you're in pain, you are insecure. You don't

  411. know what to do, and so what tends to happen.

  412. If you've ever seen a dog that's cornered before it

  413. starts growling, and it starts getting angry, and it starts chomping,

  414. it doesn't matter if if it's a Chihuahua or a Rottweiler.

  415. When they're in a corner, they do the same thing.

  416. And when you and I exemplify as much anger as

  417. we do, you think that we think that it's justified.

  418. Oh hell, they're angry because they're justified to be up

  419. to saying no. What we think is what are they

  420. insecure about? What is it they feel like they are

  421. out of control? Because here's the beauty about God. And

  422. I love that God gives us permission to exercise our emotions.

  423. Because Ephesians four doesn't say the Christian no longer gets angry,

  424. you would think that's the case. I mean, Jesus tells

  425. us to turn the other cheek when someone does us wrong.

  426. So you would think God would say, hey, being angry

  427. has no place in the Kingdom of God. But you

  428. read the Old Testament. In the New Testament, there's plenty

  429. things that make God angry. And we read Ephesians four

  430. and it says be angry, do not sin. You think yourself, WHOA,

  431. what does that even mean? Well, the reality is we

  432. have all these emotions, right, here's me and you, and

  433. so you got all these emotions, these emotions we've been

  434. talking about, you have you know, you have sadness, you

  435. have joy, you have anxiety, yeah, uh, you have you

  436. have embarrassment, You have all these things, right. You even

  437. you even have anger, right. And so what happens is

  438. is when they're all relatively meant to be made small,

  439. it's pretty easy to deal with. It's easy to handle.

  440. And so there are days my wife comes home and

  441. she's sad, and you know, we sit down and we

  442. have dinner, we talk about it a little bit, and

  443. then by the end of the night she's not sad anymore.

  444. There's times that I come home with anxiety or stress

  445. and then I spend some time with my wife or

  446. my kids. We go out to the park, we play.

  447. I come back, I go, oh, I'm pretty good. Now

  448. I'm doing okay. But anger is one of those things

  449. that the moment it plants a seed in your heart

  450. and your head, you start to on a regular basis,

  451. you start to give it air and you and you

  452. just everything makes you mad. Right you go to Windy's,

  453. the fact that they messed up your your your fries

  454. were soggy, and you ask for double cheese and you

  455. only got single cheese. And then you go to the

  456. grocery store and the clerk didn't have your favorite ice

  457. cream and they told you they're not gonna have it

  458. for a week. And then you go to work and

  459. you open the fridge and someone got your lunch into

  460. your lunch and your work fridge. And I know some

  461. people are saying amen to that, and so you keep

  462. feeding that and feeding it, and so you just keep

  463. thinking about this stuff, and you just you start letting

  464. everything get upset. You start letting everything make you angry,

  465. and so what happens is it just fills all the

  466. space inside of you. Now you're just angry all the time.

  467. And the thing with anger is as you're trying to

  468. have these other emotions, happiness, joy, things that are really

  469. healthy for you, well, when you filled yourself with anger,

  470. when those things try to come, nothing can sit with it,

  471. Nothing rests, and so you're one what's going on? And

  472. instead of going and getting with God, instead of healing,

  473. instead of figuring out why you have anger issues, instead

  474. of asking God God what we have a course at

  475. our church we do call Freedom that'll help you discover

  476. a lot of these emotions, help you put them in

  477. the right place, help you discover where the Holy Spirit

  478. is in these things. But if you don't treat this

  479. with seriousness, then all you're doing every time is you're

  480. just throwing new emotions at your anger. And anger doesn't

  481. allow any space for any other emotion. So you're angry,

  482. and you convinced yourself, as long as my circumstances change,

  483. I won't be angry anymore. Well, guess what, tomorrow, we're

  484. all making you angry again because we don't know how

  485. to deal with your anger, because we don't know what

  486. really makes you angry. You think it's about the fact

  487. that no one listens to you, or that no one's

  488. taking you serious or no one cares about you. But

  489. it is so much deeper than that, so much deeper

  490. than that, and you've been sowing anger for so long.

  491. What happens is people will just start matching your anger

  492. with their anger. So they went from being really patient

  493. with you with your anger to actually kind of getting

  494. fed up with the anger. And so as you have

  495. been filling them up with your anger, what happens is

  496. is they fill themselves up with the same anger. And

  497. now you get to a point where people can't get

  498. along no more. Because what happens with anger sadness. We

  499. can all kind of put up with. We all, you know.

  500. You know, there's that one person in your life that's

  501. just always mopey. They're like e or it's never happy

  502. with anything. You could take them to the best restaurant

  503. in all of Los Angeles and they're gonna find something

  504. wrong with it. It's like, oh, well, the Brussels Cross

  505. were soggy, and it's just you know, and Mike Colke

  506. was a little flat and you're like, it was all great,

  507. what are you talking about? But we put up with that,

  508. you know, we put up with people who are always joyful.

  509. Believe it or not. I don't people who always have

  510. joy that make me feel very uncomfortable. And so when

  511. I'm around people who have a lot of joy I do.

  512. I put up with it a lot of times because

  513. because it's very uncomfortable. I want to see them upset.

  514. Sometimes I want to see them sad, and they just

  515. never are. But we put up with that, right, people

  516. who are anxious, It's like my wife, and my wife

  517. deals with anxiousness. Man, I'm always I try to be

  518. as patient as possible whenever that happens. But guess what

  519. anger nobody has patience for. If you're gonna be angry

  520. all the time, you're gonna isolate yourself from relationships. You're

  521. gonna lose a lot of relationships that you're gonna be

  522. sober one day, and you're gonna think to yourself, how

  523. did I allow myself to get to a heartened heart

  524. where I thought everyone was out to get me, where

  525. I thought everyone was doing me wrong, And here I am,

  526. I'm on a lonely island. And I have no one

  527. with me, because that's exactly what will happen when anger

  528. starts to hit your heart. And then what happens is

  529. we'll see in a beautiful way what happen as it

  530. begins to live in your head, because as it's in

  531. your heart, it'll start to exemplify in your head. So

  532. we ask ourselves what do we do when I find

  533. myself always angry in my head? Because I had that

  534. the other day, two days ago, I ordered something online

  535. that was very It was pretty pricey. It was a

  536. pricey investment. And it came to my doorstep and I

  537. opened it and the box was empty. It wasn't in there.

  538. And so there's a pair of optical glasses and here,

  539. you guys know, optical glasses are not cheap. And so

  540. I call the customer service. I'm like, hey, my glasses

  541. aren't in here, and I'm like, can you take a

  542. picture of it? I go, you let me take a

  543. picture of an empty box. Yeah, I'm happy to do that.

  544. Boom an empty box, and she goes, oh, sir, we

  545. have very detailed packaging processes, so that's not our problem.

  546. That's a problem for FedEx ups. You got to go

  547. to ups and deal with this. I said, I'm sorry,

  548. what and she goes, I go, how long does this take?

  549. She goes, it could take anywhere between eight to fourteen weeks. Now,

  550. how many you guys know in the moment, Oh, I

  551. was about to tear someone up. This girl had no

  552. idea the capacity of how I was about to rip

  553. her up over the phone. And she's just like, yeah,

  554. there's nothing we can do. Yeah, there's nothing we can do.

  555. And I think to myself, and I'm sure if I yelled,

  556. kicked and screamed, I could probably get something out of this.

  557. Isn't that how that always is? The people who are loudest,

  558. the people who kick the most, who scream the most,

  559. they get the most attention. You can go to Disneyland

  560. and have a bad experience, but they won't do anything

  561. for you. But the moment you start screaming in Disneyland

  562. like okay, sir, okay, sar okay sir, we'll give you

  563. a new tickets like why? Because we respond to anger.

  564. Anger creates a response. So I had to make a

  565. decision with that girl. I'm like, she's just doing her job.

  566. I'm gonna hang up the phone because I was mad,

  567. as you can believe. And what happens is you gotta

  568. make a decision that as it lives in your head,

  569. Am I gonna gate keep this? Am I gonna let

  570. this leave my lips? Or not? You're your own gatekeeper

  571. with your anger, You're your own gatekeeper. When it leads

  572. to sin, you're your own gatekeeper. Because what happens is

  573. Apostle Paul says in Ephesian chapter four, if you don't

  574. gatekeep your anger, then you, as a believer, it will

  575. lead to something where you will grieve the Holy Spirit himself,

  576. where the Holy Spirit will be a spectator towards your

  577. anger and go, oh, that's my baby. Oh no, yes,

  578. she's with me. Yeah, he's with me. They know better

  579. than that the world. That's the reason why this is

  580. in the New Testament, not the Old Testament, because the

  581. world knows how to be angry. The Bible, the Word

  582. of God in Jesus Christ, knows how to heal. And

  583. so the moment you choose to follow Jesus, and you

  584. choose to follow the King of kings and the Lord

  585. of Lords and the Prince of peace, what happens is

  586. you give up your rights and privileges to hold onto

  587. your anger. You don't give up your rights and privileges

  588. to be angry, but you give up your rights and

  589. privileges to hold on to it. I have a dog.

  590. There are times he gets and he'll like, he'll catch

  591. a mouse or a bunny or something like that. But

  592. I don't let him keep it. He's just a dog,

  593. so he'll go in about. But when I see it,

  594. he's got to release it. If he doesn't, he's gonna

  595. be in trouble. And when you when we're angry, God's saying,

  596. it's okay, it's gonna happen. Anger is gonna happen, but

  597. you better release it, because if you don't release it,

  598. then you don't reflect being a child of God. If

  599. you hold onto it, you reflect the world standard of

  600. how they do things. I want you to see what

  601. Peter says. First Peter, chapter three, verse eight says this, Finally,

  602. all of you have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love,

  603. a tender heart, and a humble mind. So someone may

  604. ask what's the path towards getting rid of this anger,

  605. releasing this anger? Well, according to First Peter, the path

  606. is having the humility of mind, being humble humility is

  607. the opposite of a right to be angry, because when

  608. you're angry, you think more of yourself, you think more

  609. of your issues. You hold on You justify why you

  610. can hold on to it. You justify why you don't

  611. need to forgive. You justify why you don't need a love.

  612. You justify why it was okay for you to say

  613. or do the thing that you did. But humility says

  614. I don't have any right. Humility says I don't have

  615. any right, a right to hold on to this. So

  616. what Peter says, He says, a humble mind. But I'm

  617. gonna take it a little deeper, because humble mind in

  618. English isn't even the accurate depiction of what it means

  619. to have a humble mind. What he actually uses is

  620. he uses a Greek phrase to pay nos, which to

  621. pay nos the very definition is to be God reliant.

  622. So when he says that you and I are called

  623. to have a humble mind, he says, you and I

  624. are called to have a god reliant mind, a mind

  625. that is fully reliant on God. It's not just humility

  626. that's like, oh no, you know, no, I don't need applause.

  627. Oh no, I don't need attention. A God reliant mind

  628. is someone who goes Yeah. I mean, I have every

  629. right to be upset. I have every right to be angry.

  630. I have every right to get right with those people.

  631. But I rely on God. So I don't need you.

  632. I don't need you. My mind is reliant fully on God.

  633. And it's a comparative term that opposes self reliance to

  634. God reliance. And so you will grieve the Holy Spirit

  635. when your life, when your emotions go from relying on

  636. God to reliant on yourself. That's what grieves God. What

  637. grieves God is as it leads to sin, or what

  638. leads to us, is that anger will actually show Man

  639. and show God. I don't need God. I got this,

  640. And that's what grieves God. What griefs God is not

  641. that you were upset. It's that, by your actions and

  642. what placed in your heart and your words, you have

  643. shown God. You have shown the Holy Spirit, and you

  644. have shown others that. Yeah, I'm a person who loves Jesus.

  645. I'm a person who goes to church. I'm a person

  646. who worships God. But when the rubber meets the road,

  647. I don't actually need him. I have myself. I don't

  648. need him to justify. I don't need his hand to

  649. guide me. I don't need his hand to cover me.

  650. Because I got the right words to say to my

  651. spouse when I'm angry. I got the right words to

  652. say to my coworkers when they offend me. I got

  653. the right words to say to my neighbor when they

  654. mess up my side of the lawn with their stuff.

  655. I got the right words. I got the right words

  656. to the server when they mess up my order. God.

  657. God may have words, but he don't have my right words.

  658. God may do something, but how long is that gonna take.

  659. I need action right now. I need to be justified

  660. right now. And so there the Holy Spirit is there

  661. as you're a believer, and he's filled you, and he's

  662. watching this whole thing, and he's trying to talk to you.

  663. He's trying to reel you back, he's trying to hold

  664. you back. You're like, no, Holy Spirit, I got this.

  665. And he's grieved. He's like, oh, And so what happens

  666. is when we grieve God, it's a place where we

  667. say I'm self reliant, I can do this. So the

  668. beauty is that there is a promise that as you

  669. and I get to a place of being fulfilled with

  670. our emotions is you may in your life, you may

  671. feel like you're full of anger, but we need to

  672. go to a place where we're filled with humility. Not

  673. just a humility of thinking like, oh, I don't I'm okay,

  674. I'm just a humble person. It's a humility that says

  675. I rely on God, I rely on Jesus. I don't

  676. need to get involved in that. I got People always

  677. ask me all the time, Hey, I heard this about

  678. you passed around him. Do you have a comment on that? Like, man,

  679. I got no comment on that. I rely on Jesus, don't.

  680. I don't need comment on that. Someone may come after

  681. you one day on your DMS. You may you know,

  682. you may be struggling with relationships and you find yourself

  683. on Facebook and you think, okay, someone's talking about me.

  684. I need to get on them comments on Facebook. I

  685. need to get in them dms. I need to do

  686. an email thread to everyone, or I need to get

  687. in a family group text. And really, what you needed

  688. to say is God's got me. I'm gonna love my

  689. fruit show. I'm gonna walk in forgiveness. I'm gonna walk

  690. in love now. There may be times you gotta speak

  691. something in truth, but that's why you got to check

  692. and gate keep yourself to say is this a righteous

  693. anger or is this an unholy anger that I'm holding

  694. on too? Because there is such thing as a righteous anger.

  695. You may have to get upset about some things, but

  696. you're doing it in a way that it's a holiness.

  697. It's a conviction and it's not a place that you

  698. feel like you're defending yourself or you're justifying yourself. And

  699. so as we find ourselves in a place of oftentimes

  700. getting angry, the question is do you hold on to

  701. it for a moment and pass it to God. Do

  702. you put it in its same size range as all

  703. the other emotions, or do you blow it up every

  704. single day? Do you feel yourself every day? And if

  705. you find your self filling you every day, it might

  706. be time for you to go to God and say, God,

  707. help me discover what it is that's actually making you angry.

  708. Help me to because because it has nothing to do

  709. with whatever you think it is, there is something deeper

  710. that is causing your anger on why you feel like

  711. you have to protect yourself by showing your anger every time,

  712. and that you need to heal and you need to

  713. give to the Lord, that you need to ask Jesus

  714. to come and grab a hold of because it will

  715. absolutely take control of your life and it'll tear things

  716. down in your life. And so I want to invite

  717. you today as we close, as maybe you've struggled with anger,

  718. or maybe next week we're gonna close and we're gonna

  719. talk about joy. But as you struggle with many things

  720. in your life, you may struggle with grief, you may

  721. struggle with anxiety, you may struggle with fear, you may

  722. struggle with anger. I love the beauty about what we

  723. sung today. And the fact about Jesus is that he's

  724. the Prince of peace. Because whatever your struggle is, when

  725. it comes to your emotions, the one fixed to all

  726. of those things is peace. That God can be peace,

  727. just like he spoke to as Jesus spoke to the

  728. sea of Galilee when there was a storm and he

  729. spoke peace over the sea. That was a picture of

  730. that's exactly what Jesus can do to the chaos of

  731. your own life. And in the same way, whether it's

  732. life that brings about a storm, or whether it's our

  733. own sin that brings storms into our life. That as

  734. we would be willing, if we would give those things

  735. over to Jesus, the Prince of Peace, you can see

  736. God begin to take control of your life, and you

  737. can go from self reliant to God reliant. And the

  738. only way that we can do that today is through

  739. faith in Jesus Christ. He's the only one that came

  740. to this earth and lived a perfect life. Every other

  741. person is imperfect, and every other person needs a savior.

  742. But Jesus, he is our savior, and he sits at

  743. the right hand of the Father today. And the Bible

  744. tells us that for those that would follow Jesus, Jesus

  745. sits on the right hand of the Father, and he

  746. intercedes for us. In other words, he knows your name,

  747. and he speaks your name on behalf of you. Something

  748. we all desperately need. We've all fallen short, we've all sinned.

  749. One day we all stand before God, we will stand

  750. before God and we'll give an account. But with Jesus,

  751. when we stand before God and we give an account,

  752. he will interrupt that moment and he will say, that's

  753. a child of ours. They don't have to give an

  754. account for all of their sins because they followed me.

  755. They've given their life to me. They fully believed in

  756. the death and resurrection. And so as you're here today,

  757. you're saying, here's about time I follow the Prince of Peace.

  758. It's about time I make Jesus my lord and savior.

  759. Then I encourage you, whether you're in the courtyard, the cafe,

  760. or in this room, could we all bow our heads

  761. and close our eyes right now, in this moment, we're

  762. all going to leave here together. If you're here today

  763. and you're ready to make that decision, that step of faith,

  764. to follow Jesus for the first time, if you're ready

  765. to give him your all today, what I'm not saying

  766. is if you're ready to be perfect. What I'm saying

  767. is God knows you're not perfect. A lot of people say,

  768. when I get this figured out, when I get when

  769. I can you know, fix this or do that, then

  770. I'll give my life to Jesus. No, God wants you

  771. exactly where you're at. He'll give you the power, he'll

  772. give you the strength, the Holy Spirit will lead you.

  773. And so if you're here to make that decision, to

  774. follow Jesus as the Holy Spirit of speaking to you.

  775. Would you engage me today and would you say this

  776. prayer out loud as we affirm the work of God.

  777. Would you say, Dear Lord Jesus, in this place, I

  778. confess you as Lord and Savior. I believe in my

  779. heart that you died on the cross and you rose

  780. three days later. And from this day forward I call

  781. you my Lord in my savior, and I will follow

  782. you for the rest of my days in Jesus' name. Amen.
