  1. So good to see y'all.

  2. I'll say one thing when it comes to our Christmas

  3. services coming up, We're gonna have a series all month long,

  4. really leaning into the Christmas story about the birth of Jesus.

  5. But I've heard for thirty years my.

  6. Dad say this every single Christmas season, and I'll say

  7. it to you. If there's a service that's important to

  8. go to this month, come on Christmas Eve, either at

  9. three or six pm.

  10. Pick a service to come.

  11. And what my dad has said for thirty years is

  12. remember that day is not your birthday. Okay, it's great

  13. to be with family, is great to be with friends,

  14. but remember the point of Christmas is not to celebrate

  15. family and friends.

  16. It's to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

  17. Now you could do that with family and friends, but

  18. the highest priorities to honor our Savior who was born.

  19. And so if you're traveling somewhere for Christmas Eve, that's fine,

  20. but if you're in the area, make sure it's the

  21. priority to worship the King of Kings on Christmas time.

  22. So join us either that Sunday or Christmas Eve.

  23. But I can't wait to see you as we continually

  24. honor the Lord during this season, which we'll talk about

  25. during this month. So if you have your Bible with you,

  26. we'll jump into the message today and we're gonna find

  27. ourselves at first.

  28. In Luke chapter nineteen.

  29. So if you have a Bible with you or you

  30. simply want to follow along, we'll have it up on

  31. the screens, but as you find it, just hold your

  32. place there. We'll get to there in just a few moments.

  33. But only recently, about a couple of weeks ago, I

  34. didn't have an answer for something. I was left a

  35. little speechless, which for me, who's normally a little bit

  36. sarcastic and a little bit snarky, I normally have a

  37. response to everything. And about three weeks ago, my youngest son, Thomas,

  38. my three year old. So I have two sons, Matthias

  39. and Thomas, my youngest Thomas, who that's his personality built

  40. into a box right there in that picture.

  41. That's him all day long. I'm sitting in a corner.

  42. I have a little nooking in my house where I

  43. study and stuff like that, and Ashley's kind of just

  44. a little ways away from me in the live room

  45. watching TV, and Matthias, my oldest, is right next to

  46. me kind of playing on his iPad, and Thomas walks

  47. up to me, very sincere and very serious, and he

  48. looks at me. He says, Daddy, I have a question.

  49. I said, yes, son, what's your question? And he just

  50. stands there with his hands in his pockets and he goes,

  51. is Santa Real?

  52. And I thought, oh, man.

  53. Okay, here's what you gotta know about our family. We

  54. don't really teach Santa at our house. So he's on

  55. movies and you know, like when we go to Disneyland,

  56. he's a character. But for us, we just kind of

  57. treat Santa like Spider Man or Superman. It's just like

  58. kind of more of a pretend character. But like on Christmas,

  59. we don't give presents on behalf of Santa.

  60. To our kids.

  61. And it's not because we're Christian and it's very religious

  62. for us. It's simply because I don't want an old, white,

  63. fat man with a beard getting credit for what I

  64. spent money on to give my kids. Like that's you know, oh,

  65. like that is gonna say from mom and dad. No

  66. imaginary person came and gave you this gift. Mom and

  67. Dad gave you this gift, all right, And Jesus supplied

  68. the blessings for mom and dad.

  69. So that's the only reason why we do it.

  70. It's not because we're oh Santa, no not in this out,

  71. No no, no, no. Dad's getting credit, Mom's getting credit.

  72. That's really what it is. But also there is a

  73. truth that for us just in our house, and it's

  74. not right, wrong, or different, but Christmas is really important

  75. to us and we really want as best as possible

  76. to focus on Jesus as much as we can, because

  77. it is very easy to get mixed up in the

  78. Christmas hight because we do a lot of fun things

  79. with our kids. We go on drives to look at

  80. Christmas lights, we go to the Christmas tree farm, so

  81. we do a lot of things that are really not

  82. fully Jesus focused. And so on Christmas Day, even though

  83. we're giving our boys gifts, you know, as a family,

  84. we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus on Christmas Day and

  85. and and we give presents, but then we have a

  86. conversation about Jesus being the greatest president of all and

  87. that's why we give presents.

  88. So that's really frogus.

  89. So it caught me off guard that Thomas would even

  90. ask if he's real because we don't even talk about him,

  91. which means either through you know, what he has seen

  92. on TV, in a movie, or even his conversation with

  93. classmates in school for some reason, either someone said he

  94. wasn't real and it got him to ask the question

  95. or whatever it was. And so if you have kids,

  96. in a few moments, you can muffle their ears depending

  97. on what you have or haven't told them. That's why

  98. we have Patriot kids. So none of our teachers there

  99. will ever break that news to them. I don't think

  100. that'll be a mom and dad decision. You know, so

  101. he says, or he says, it's Santa ru So I

  102. have a decision to make. Either I could be like,

  103. do you want him to be real?

  104. You know? And we yeah, let's make believe.

  105. Or I could or I could say, okay, well I

  106. didn't know if I told him no, like, is he

  107. gonna break out in tears?

  108. Like what's gonna happen?

  109. And so look at Thomas and I and I just say,

  110. and so I make the decision as a dad. You

  111. just you're gonna get You're gonna grow up fast. Right

  112. now at three, we're gonna break the news to you.

  113. And I look over at.

  114. Matthias, who's six, and he's mouthing to me, no, he's not.

  115. So I'm like, I think I found the culprit who

  116. told him Sanna's not real. And uh, I don't even

  117. remember having that conversation with Matthias, but somehow he just

  118. and he's telling me like, no, just break it to him,

  119. just tell him no, tell him no. So I just

  120. told Thomas, I said, Thomas, we, uh, Sanna is is

  121. make believe, just like Spider Man and just like Superman

  122. and and but and then I tell him, but there

  123. he's based off of a real person.

  124. Called Saint Nicholas. And Saint Nicholas was a.

  125. Great Christian man who gave gifts to children who were impoverished,

  126. and that's how Santa was created. So he was a

  127. real person. But the Santa we seeing movies, he's like

  128. the characters all the other characters we see in movies.

  129. And so he just looks at me and he's like okay,

  130. and I go, but you can you can make believe

  131. that he's real. You know, we can pretend just like you.

  132. Because they wear costumes every day. They love to change

  133. into little costumes and dress into characters, and I'm like,

  134. we could pretend, and he's like, okay. And then I said,

  135. you want to know who is real though? And then

  136. Massius jumps in and he's like Jesus, and I'm looking

  137. at him and I'm like, you may go somewhere in life, Matthias,

  138. you speaking truth, that's six No, he's not real. And

  139. then you know the answer, good jobs. So he says Jesus.

  140. And then what we did is I began, as best

  141. as I could do a three year old have a

  142. conversation on what's the difference between pretend and what is real.

  143. That Jesus is real and Christmas is real for us

  144. because Jesus was born.

  145. But all these other characters that we see, that Frosty the.

  146. Snowman and the Reindeers, they may be based on off

  147. of real things in life, but their fun pretend things

  148. to partake in. Now, it's important for us to recognize that,

  149. whether you want to break that to your children, have

  150. that conversation at three years old or fifteen years old.

  151. You know, I've met ten year olds who still believed

  152. and said and that's okay. But at whatever point you

  153. want to have that conversation, it is important though, to

  154. also bring in the conversation about the reality of.

  155. Who Jesus is.

  156. Because Christmas is a very easy time to really catapult

  157. everything into make believe, everything into fun. We convince ourselves

  158. we need to be joyful and cheerful, and the December

  159. twenty sixth comes along and then we go, we don't

  160. need to be that anymore. But if you recognize who

  161. Jesus really is, and that he was really born and

  162. he really came to give us hope, he really came

  163. to give us peace, and he really came to give

  164. us joy, that's something even an adult can learn today

  165. a child can learn. And so over the next couple

  166. of weeks, as we really jump into the Christmas stories,

  167. we're gonna realize that not only is this important for

  168. us as adults, it's important to teach the next generation.

  169. The value of who Jesus is not the value of

  170. a season, and not particularly even the value of a date.

  171. It's the value of.

  172. The time that we recognize who Jesus is in our

  173. life and that he was born to save us. And

  174. so if you have your finger in your Bible at

  175. Luke chapter nineteen, I'm just gonna read a few verses

  176. with us today and if you'd like to stand for

  177. the honor of reading God's word, this is where we'll

  178. find ourselves today.

  179. And here's what we're gonna.

  180. Do over the next couple weeks is we're gonna read

  181. this passage at the beginning of the message every single

  182. week leading up till Christmas, because this is important. This

  183. is just the week of Jesus's last day of week

  184. of ministry. So this in Luke nineteen, this isn't a

  185. Christmas story verse. This is actually a verse that Jesus

  186. is headed to Jerusalem, that by the end of the

  187. week he would be put to death on the cross.

  188. But there's value in his words that we're going to

  189. see all throughout this Christmas season. There's values of him,

  190. there's values of us, and there's values of his desire

  191. for us.

  192. And so here's what it says.

  193. This is a moment he's gonna enter Jerusalem, and Jesus

  194. says this, go into the village in front of you,

  195. where on entering you will find a cult tide which

  196. is an unwritten donkey, a cult tide on which no

  197. one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it here

  198. if anyone asks you, why are you untying it? You

  199. shall say this, the Lord has need of it.

  200. I want you to repeat that with me. The Lord

  201. has need of it. Let's do it one more time.

  202. The Lord has need of me. There you go, you're

  203. catching it. So those who were sent away and found

  204. it just as he had told them. And as they

  205. were untying the its owners said, why are you untying

  206. the colts? Why are you touching my donkey? And they said,

  207. the Lord has need of it. And so presumably the

  208. person said, oh, it's for Jesus. Take it, and they

  209. brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt,

  210. they set Jesus on it, and as he rode along,

  211. they spread their cloaks on the road.

  212. As he was.

  213. Drawing near already on the way down to Mount Olives,

  214. the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and

  215. praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty

  216. works they had seen, saying, blessed is the King who

  217. comes in the name of the Lord, Peace in heaven

  218. and in glory in the highest And some of the

  219. Pharisees in the crowd said to him, teacher rebuke your

  220. disciples because.

  221. They were praising Jesus.

  222. And he answered, I tell you, if these were silent,

  223. the very stones would cry out.

  224. You may be seated.

  225. You see what happens in this moment is since the

  226. birth of Jesus thirty three years prior, all of history

  227. and all of the moments of history has culminated to

  228. the moment where Jesus is going to enter Jerusalem, and

  229. so from his very birth till now everything has anticipated

  230. for this moment. What many people were anticipating is that

  231. Jesus in that moment was going to take an earthly throne.

  232. But what he actually was going to do is a

  233. very human thing, which.

  234. Was sacrifice his life, give his life up, die for

  235. you and I. The reality was is in his sacrifice

  236. he would bring us into perfect relationship with the God,

  237. the Father.

  238. So Jesus was born to die.

  239. And in this moment, the disciples, not fully recognizing what

  240. Jesus was going to do on their behalf, start to

  241. worship him and praise him, and the Pharisees you are

  242. nearby judging scoffing, looking awkwardly going.

  243. To this place to tell Jesus to say, hey, tell your.

  244. Disciples to stop worshiping you, Jesus says, listen, if humanity

  245. doesn't praise me, then God's creation, the very stones, will

  246. erupt with praise if humanity won't do this.

  247. And so the beauty of.

  248. A Christmas season is you and I have an opportunity

  249. to give God a sound of praise in our life.

  250. And here's the reality. If you and I don't, Creation will.

  251. Do it for you. But God's call is for you

  252. and I.

  253. And God uses objects all throughout the scriptures and will

  254. see in the coming weeks that God uses things left

  255. and right, whether it be a manger of stone, whether

  256. it be incense, whether it be trees, whether it be

  257. any of those things.

  258. God will use all of those things to his glory.

  259. But more than that, did you know that God wants

  260. to use you for his glory? You know He wants

  261. to use you and I for his glory? How do

  262. we know that? What we see that if you have

  263. your Bible, you want to see. We're gonna look at

  264. Mary today a little bit in Luke chapter one, starting

  265. in verse forty six. If you're taking notes, there's some

  266. things Mary teaches us during the Christmas season that's valuable

  267. for you and I. The first thing is Mary teaches

  268. us how important it is to rejoice during the Christmas season.

  269. Rejoice always, but in this season we can really rejoice

  270. that Jesus was born for you and I. And she

  271. teaches us what that looks like. What happens is for

  272. the virgin Mary is. The Angel of Lord peers to

  273. Mary and tells her that she's gonna give birth to

  274. a son by the power of God, a miracle.

  275. Truly, she's a virgin.

  276. She is engaged to a man named Joseph, and she

  277. has never seen a man before in that way. And

  278. he says, you are gonna or a child. He's gonna

  279. be the savior of the world. Emmanuel God with us.

  280. And how does Mary respond? Well, she responds in a song.

  281. It's called Mary's Song. And the first thing she does

  282. is she rejoices at the words of what God is

  283. gonna do. Look at this, and Mary said, my soul

  284. magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior.

  285. What happens when God sends you on some type of journey.

  286. What happens if God asks you to do something in

  287. your life. I think most of us we would all agree, Well,

  288. it probably was easy for Mary because an angel stood

  289. before her and told her this is the mission that

  290. God is gonna send you on. And most of us,

  291. if we look at that story, we don't relate to

  292. that story because we say, hey, I've never had an

  293. angel visit me like that before, and if an angel

  294. visited me in that way, life would probably be easier

  295. for me, or trusting God would be easier for me.

  296. There have been times in my own life where I've

  297. had to make decisions and I've thought to myself, God,

  298. if you just send a message or a messenger, then

  299. I'll know and the decision will be easier, or my

  300. faith will be easier.

  301. To trust you. We think that way all the time.

  302. And so we look at Mary's storr and we say,

  303. so nice of Mary.

  304. She gets to talk to someone from heaven, and of

  305. course she's gonna say no. Who's gonna tell an angel no?

  306. But God's never sent an angel to me, so therefore

  307. it's much more acceptable that I.

  308. Tell him no in areas of my life.

  309. Well, if you look at a view versus prior, what

  310. happens is is Mary has a cousin name Elizabeth, and

  311. Elizabeth has a husband named Zacharia, and Zachari is a priest.

  312. And an angel. Just a few verses, it's still in

  313. Luke chapter.

  314. One, which we'll see an angel appears and he says,

  315. you and your wife, you've been believing God for a

  316. child your whole life, and he's gonna finally supply you

  317. that child. You're gonna name him John, which all throughout

  318. the Gospels we know.

  319. Him as John the Baptist.

  320. He becomes a prophet that paves the way for Jesus

  321. to rise, and he goes out into the rivers and

  322. he starts baptizing Israel, and he calls Israel to repentance,

  323. and he's a bold man of God. And he says,

  324. you and your wife, you're gonna get that child you've

  325. been believing God for. Is an angel telling Zachariah that

  326. very thing that you have been hoping God to supply

  327. your needs for decades, He's gonna do it. And not

  328. only that, he's gonna use your son greatly. Look how

  329. does Zachariah respond. Look at this, here's the first thing

  330. that happens. Luke chapter one, verse twelve, And so we

  331. read verse forty six.

  332. Now we're here in verse twelve ahead, and.

  333. It says, and Zachariah was troubled when he saw him,

  334. and fear fell upon him.

  335. And the Angel said to him, do.

  336. Not be afraid, Zachariah, for your prayer has been heard.

  337. And your wife Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and

  338. you shall call his name John, and you will have

  339. joy and gladness. And many others will rejoice at his birth,

  340. for he will be great before the Lord.

  341. And he must not drink wine or strong drink.

  342. And he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even

  343. from his mother's womb. And he will turn many of

  344. the children of Israel to the Lord their God. And

  345. he will go before them in spirit and power of

  346. Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,

  347. and the disobedient to the wisdom.

  348. Of the just, to make ready for the loved, to

  349. people prepared. And Zacharai said to.

  350. The angel, yippe, thank you.

  351. No.

  352. And Zacharai said to the angel, how shall I know this?

  353. You're an angel? What proof do I have that this

  354. is gonna happen? And he says this, for I'm an

  355. old man, and my wife is advanced in years like

  356. he's a smart man. He calls himself old, and he

  357. calls his wife advanced. That's how you know he's still

  358. a man of God. He had the right language. An

  359. angel goes to Zachariah, you're gonna give birth to a

  360. son you've been dreaming about. His response is, prove it.

  361. Me and my wife are old. It's not possible for us.

  362. This is a priest. This is a man who knows

  363. the story of Abraham and Sarah like the back of

  364. his hand. And an angel appears to him and says,

  365. in your old age, now look at the parallel. An

  366. angel appears to marry, who's anywhere between fourteen and fifteen

  367. years old, who's a virgin, who's engaged to a man

  368. who by then. Just remember back then, for a woman

  369. to not be married and to be pregnant, I mean,

  370. that is just about the worst thing that can happen

  371. for a woman back then. Immediately outcasted from society, immediately

  372. disowned by your family, immediately cut off from anyone you

  373. love and care about. And what happens is that angel

  374. comes to marry and says, you are a virgin, You've

  375. never been with a man.

  376. You're not even married. And God, by the power.

  377. Of his Holy Spirit, is gonna give you a child

  378. who will be fully God and fully man. And this

  379. child will be Emmanuel God with us, and he will

  380. rescue and to deem the world. And by doing that,

  381. if you say yes, your family's gonna cut you off.

  382. Your friends are gonna cut you off, your buddy, everyone

  383. you know.

  384. Your community is gonna cut you off.

  385. Everything you know and love will immediately outcast you. And

  386. Mary's response is, my soul magnifies the Lord, and.

  387. My spirit rejoices. Am I God within me.

  388. Zachariah a priest who's been a Christian a very long

  389. there's no Christian back then. He was a Jewish man,

  390. but a Christian for a very long time. He's been

  391. in church. He knows all the worship songs. He's seen

  392. God through and through. He's an elder, he's a deacon,

  393. he's on the prayer team.

  394. He's done it all. God comes before.

  395. Him and says, you're a little old, but God's gonna

  396. give you that child. And he goes prove it, and

  397. we tend to thank God, give me a sign, and

  398. I'll trust you.

  399. God gave Zachariah a sign, and he still didn't trust

  400. God's signs.

  401. Don't dictate your faith. Your faith in God dictates God's

  402. ability to meet you where you're at. Mary was full

  403. of faith. How do we know because point number two

  404. she tells us, here's the next thing she does. The

  405. first thing she does is rejoice, and then the second

  406. thing she does is she begins to reflect. It's a

  407. young girl. This a fourteen year old. This is a

  408. fifteen year old. This is a sixteen year old. This

  409. is one of our teenagers over in patriot youth who

  410. has the ability to share divine truths about who God is.

  411. And here's what she says when she reflects. Speaking of God,

  412. she says, for He has looked on the humble state

  413. of his servant. For behold, from now, all generations will

  414. call me blessed, For he who is mighty has done

  415. great things for me. And holy is his name, and

  416. his he is for those who fear him. From generation

  417. to generation. He has shown strength with his arm. He

  418. has scattered the proud in thoughts of their hearts. He

  419. has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted

  420. those of the humble estate. He has filled the hungry

  421. with good things and the rich he has sent away empty.

  422. Here's what she's saying, because in their day, if God

  423. was gonna choose a daughter of Israel to give birth

  424. to the son, who had chosen a Pharisees daughter, a

  425. strong religious leader would have chose maybe someone who was wealthy,

  426. who could actually run for office for this Jesus, And

  427. if Jesus is gonna take over the throne, it's like

  428. modern day politics. You can't be as much as you

  429. want to be a politician. If you ain't got money,

  430. you ain't being a politician. Jesus is day too. So

  431. if this man Jesus is gonna run for office and

  432. be the next king of Israel, he's got to be

  433. born into a wealthy home. He's got to be born

  434. into a religious home. He's got to be born into

  435. a priest's home. He's got to be born into the

  436. favorite family of the community's home. No, he's born in

  437. the home of a young girl named Mary who lives

  438. in a place called Nazareth, who was the ghetto of

  439. all ghettos of the cities of Israel. So this was

  440. this was not like, oh, there's that one wealthy family

  441. in Nazareth. It was like, No, nobody's wealthy in Nazareth.

  442. They're all working class. They all have no little to

  443. no means. How do we know that, because immediately she

  444. has to start to rely when her and Joseph have

  445. to run away, they have to rely on as many.

  446. Outside people as possible.

  447. That's why she goes and lives with Elizabeth and Zachariah.

  448. That's why they fleed to Egypt when he's coming after Jesus.

  449. There isn't a strong community where they're at that can

  450. financially sustain, covering and caring for them. And so God

  451. chooses a young girl. Why doesn't God choose already a

  452. married woman that would look more better in the community,

  453. at least she's married. No, he chooses someone that the

  454. community knew had never been with a man before.

  455. And God chooses her. And what does she do?

  456. She immediately starts to reflect on how she got here.

  457. She starts to say, it must be because man, I

  458. just look at this, she says in verse fifty two.

  459. He has brought down the mighty from the thrones and

  460. exalted those of humble state. He has filled the hungry

  461. with good things. So what she starts to reflect on

  462. she says, I think God chose me because I'm hungry

  463. for him. I'm not hungry for position. I'm not hungry

  464. for power. I'm not hungry for wealth. I'm not hungr

  465. for politics. She says, I'm just hungry for God. And

  466. you see, when you're hungry for God, God can do

  467. a lot with that. God can't do much with your aspirations.

  468. But God, if you're hungry for him, he can feel you,

  469. and you can be a byproduct of any effort, any aspiration.

  470. But for God.

  471. He doesn't look at our dream board and say, oh,

  472. I want to I want to fill that dream board

  473. with everything they want. He looks at you and you're

  474. his dream board, and he says, how can I fill

  475. that person up, to do my will, to make my

  476. name known, to give me glory.

  477. That goes back to what Jesus did.

  478. He said He's looking for a donkey that he can

  479. use that's never been ridden before. And God is looking

  480. for a people that are empty, that are not full

  481. of self, that aren't full of the world, that aren't

  482. full of sin, that aren't full of our own loves

  483. and desires, but are empty.

  484. So that we could say, God, feel me.

  485. When people ask the question or think to themselves, why

  486. would God choose Mary. It's because through Mary he would

  487. get the glory. With anyone else they would get the glory,

  488. but not with Mary. She gives God all of the glory.

  489. It's important in our own life. You know, I have

  490. this right here. I got a little mirror reflector, and

  491. these are you never realize how important these are in

  492. the car, and you may have like more of a

  493. smart car nowadays, where you got a little camera where

  494. you back up, and sometimes that camera doesn't work for me,

  495. like either it's delayed or it's dirty because we had

  496. wins the night before or something like that. And immediately

  497. I start freaking out because I think to myself, how

  498. am I going to back up safely? And then I remember, dummy,

  499. you have a mirror above your head that you haven't

  500. used in for.

  501. Just look in the mirror.

  502. And then, even though as I start to drive and

  503. go straight, any time I want to make a turn,

  504. whether I want to merge into a new lane, whether

  505. I want to make a right or left turn, and

  506. there may be a pedestrian, it's important that for a moment.

  507. I look at this reflection.

  508. I look in the mirror, and I see what was

  509. just already behind me or pasting me so that I

  510. could go forward. And what happens for Mary is she's

  511. about to embark on a big journey.

  512. She's about to become.

  513. Pregnant with God's child, and immediately she was about to

  514. go through a whirlwind. Not only was the King of

  515. the day gonna be going for Jesus's head, but her

  516. own community.

  517. Was gonna cut her off.

  518. And the first thing she does is she doesn't say, wait, wait,

  519. let me get my things, or hold on, let me

  520. do this. She reflects. She looks in this mirror, and

  521. she goes. Before I go to where I'm headed, first

  522. I'm gonna look at how good God has been, so

  523. that when this journey gets hard, I will have already

  524. reminded myself that He got me here.

  525. And if he got me here, then he can take

  526. me there.

  527. Because if you don't know how to reflect, and you

  528. can't find anything.

  529. Good God has done, then the.

  530. First thing, the first ounce of storm, the first ounce

  531. of trouble in this.

  532. Path, you're gonna falld. It's like if I tell my

  533. boy sons, what are you thankful for? I'm nothing. I'll

  534. be quiet.

  535. You gotta bed, you got a iPad, you got a cabinet,

  536. you can get food whenever you like. Don't say you're

  537. not thankful for anything. I'm thankful for my dogs. No,

  538. you better be frankful for mom and dad. So you

  539. see when we're like children and we're just unable at times.

  540. And the more you get teenagers, they start to get

  541. a little bit more forgetful about how good they have it.

  542. I was gonna Justin's not in here about call him

  543. out yesterday where we're at Chuck e Chiez.

  544. Justin sixteen years old.

  545. He got a brand new car and he was talking

  546. about the next car he wants to get. He got

  547. twenty twenty four. And we looked at Justin. I said, Justin,

  548. I'll if I could, and you and I were sixteen,

  549. I'll beat you up right now. And we are messing

  550. with him, and he's sweet, and but he was, I

  551. really want to testla. I got this twenty twenty four kill,

  552. but I really want to test it. It was like, boy,

  553. if you don't reflect real quick, you know, he canna

  554. be mad.

  555. That I brought it up to him.

  556. But if you hang out with me, your free preaching

  557. material all day long, but we say, oh, a sixteen

  558. year old does that? They we think about what we do. God,

  559. you've never you've never given me a good job. God,

  560. you've never been giving me you man, this wife of mine,

  561. this husband of mine.

  562. You didn't say that at the thought alter.

  563. You didn't say that in the honeymoon. You didn't say

  564. it then. But all of a sudden we become forgetful

  565. and we forget how to reflect them. So what Mary does.

  566. She starts reflecting right away, that says, Wow, God, God's

  567. choosing me. And even though the road that He's chose

  568. me to go down is not gonna be easy, He's

  569. gonna be with me. And I'd rather go down a

  570. road that's hard that God's with me than a road

  571. that's easy where God isn't with me. I don't want

  572. to be down that road because where I know. I

  573. know where that road ends, because Jesus tells us what

  574. good is it to again the whole world but lose

  575. your soul? So I know what the easy road looks like.

  576. I'll choose God's road any day of the week. And

  577. here's the last thing she does. She does reflection, but

  578. she does something slightly different as well. Is She also

  579. remembers she reflects her personal life, but then she also

  580. remembers the story that God.

  581. Is telling in humanity.

  582. And so there may be times that it's hard for

  583. you to pull from a current reflection because times have

  584. been hard. But what you can do is you can

  585. go to God's word and you can find all the

  586. times God has been faithful to people in the Word

  587. of God. And let that be a reminder to you

  588. that if He can do it for them, then he

  589. can do it for you. If he can heal them,

  590. he can heal you. If he can supply for them,

  591. he can supply for you. If he can use them,

  592. he can use you. And so it will be a

  593. reminder to you. God's not done with me. He's not

  594. finished with me. This season may be hard, but He's

  595. not finished. And here's what it says. She remembers. She goes,

  596. he has helped his servant Israel. So now she starts

  597. talking about Israel in remembrance of his mercy as he

  598. spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.

  599. So now all of a sudden, she remembers, and she goes,

  600. we're thousands of years.

  601. Away from Abraham, and here we are are God's gonna

  602. send his son to us. And so she.

  603. Remembers God's story in the Word of God. And back

  604. then she would have just had the five first books

  605. of the Bible, the Torah, and through that Genesis, Exodus,

  606. and Leviticus and Numbers and Deuteronomy.

  607. She looks at those passages. She looks at.

  608. God's faithfulness, and she says, God, You're good. You promised

  609. to give us Abraham, and here was Abraham. You gave

  610. us Jacob, and here was Jacob, and now You're gonna

  611. give us Jesus. And she, even though she's gonna embark

  612. on a tough journey, she remembers how good God is.

  613. And you and I not only do we need to

  614. pull from the Word of God to remember there are

  615. times God has been faithful in your life that you

  616. gotta remember those days. You gotta remember the days that

  617. God fulfilled a promise, or God was faithful to you,

  618. or God chose you out from something to do something.

  619. You gotta remember the words God give you. You know,

  620. there was a time in my life in my early

  621. twenties that from some of those who know and sometimes

  622. I share the whole story, and sometimes I share pieces.

  623. But there was a time in my life early twenties,

  624. I was with a girl all four years of college.

  625. And she became my fiance, and I was excited because

  626. I was like, this is gonna be my dream girl.

  627. We're gonna get married, you know, all these things like that.

  628. Yet in my head, I'm in Bible school. She's doing this,

  629. We're gonna graduate, I'm gonna go pastor, blah blah blah,

  630. blah blah. And all of a sudden, for three months,

  631. she doesn't pick up any of my phone calls, and

  632. all of a sudden, my middle brother Caleb runs into

  633. her at Disneyland holding hands with a guy kissing in line.

  634. She finally, three months after ignoring me because we go

  635. to different universities at the time, she says, yeah, I

  636. just I didn't want to be married to a pastor.

  637. And I decided this, and I didn't know how.

  638. To tell you, so I thought it'd be best just

  639. to move on.

  640. And so obviously I was very upset and very hurt.

  641. And so what do I do anyone else? Is I say, God,

  642. I'm doing all the right things. I'm in Bible school,

  643. I'm studying your word. I'm gonna go be a pastor.

  644. I'm a Christian, And the one thing that's missing.

  645. For me is I don't you know I have needs?

  646. Lord, And so I'm trying to be married because I'm

  647. trying to do everything. So if I'm trying to do

  648. everything right, you got to fill in where my struggle

  649. is or I'm gonna go do stupid things. And so

  650. that's what I'm thinking that I have to be talking

  651. to God and discussing. So I think that I'm God's

  652. on a timeline with me. And so I then start

  653. just dating, not fooling around, but just dating and hanging

  654. out with as many girls as I can to try

  655. to find my wife, not in an appropriate way, but

  656. coffee dates and this and that. And then my whole

  657. time is I'm talking to I'm like, she could she

  658. be my wife? Cause she be my wife, she'd be

  659. my And then like date one, Oh she's not gonna

  660. be my wife. Day three, Oh yeah, she's not gonna

  661. be my wife. And this happened for a little while

  662. cause cause I'm going, hey, God, you gotta fit. It

  663. shouldn't be this hard, it shouldn't be this difficult. If

  664. I'm doing all the things right, and I'm on your

  665. path that you you know, I got friends who have

  666. lived the total world standard and they already got their one.

  667. They're already living with a girl, and so what this

  668. ain't fair? And so I'm dating and I'm dating, and

  669. I'm dating, I'm dating. And then there was an old

  670. mother in the church called Mother Strong, who we love

  671. and Mother's Strong, she man she she she gave incredible

  672. prophetic words from the Lord. But oddly enough I had

  673. a great relationship mother Mother Strong, she like, never gave

  674. me a prophetic word, and so everybody would always get them,

  675. except for your boy.

  676. And so.

  677. One day I'm leaving service on a on a Wednesday

  678. night because I'm the youth pastor at the time, and

  679. I passed by Mother Strong, and she used to call

  680. me eat socks.

  681. She was She's a black Jewish woman, and so uh,

  682. she gave me.

  683. A Hebrew name, which Isaac is what she called me

  684. laughter because she said I make her laugh. And so

  685. she called me Isaac now because of her old age,

  686. and she forgot my name, but because that's the name

  687. that she gave me. So I'm leaving service one day

  688. and she says, Ettak, come here, and she says, I

  689. have a word for you, And I'm thinking to myself,

  690. here it is, here it is.

  691. That's what everybody's been talking about.

  692. This what all the roots, every everybody's prophecy comes true

  693. with this woman. So here it comes and she goes

  694. the Lord told me to tell you that you're gonna

  695. find your wife when you stop looking for a wife. No,

  696. don't clap for that, Like, I didn't sign up for

  697. that type of prophecy.

  698. I want the one that's like today's a Monday.

  699. By Wednesday, you're gonna you're gonna be at a grocery store.

  700. You're gonna drop a loaf of bread and your wife

  701. is gonna pick it up, and you're gonna know, Like,

  702. that's the one I want. You're gonna find it when

  703. you stop looking for What.

  704. Does that mean? How can I find it? If I'm

  705. not looking what I'm looking at it. I'm like, this

  706. woman has lost her mind and she's not good at it.

  707. She lost the gift. That was my assumption.

  708. I'm like, she just she's picking on me this uh,

  709. and so I literally disregard what she said. Start dating

  710. a couple more months again now this time, I become

  711. kind of fed up on my own because I'm like, God,

  712. these Christian girls, it's not working out. I can't meet

  713. them at the club because you say that's not allowed.

  714. I can't do anything.

  715. So I'm at church, I'm meeting them, but it's nothing's happening.

  716. And so finally, on my own, I give up and

  717. I'm like, I'm just gonna work in youth ministry. I'm

  718. gonna put my nose to the ground and I'm just

  719. gonna work. And about nine months later, my dad's in

  720. San Diego. I come to visit him for a day

  721. and my dad says, hey, Adam, when was the last

  722. time you went on a date with a girl. And

  723. I said, oh, it's been like nine months. He said, well,

  724. I have a friend who's a pastor in Hawaii, and

  725. he has like three daughters that.

  726. Are around the same age.

  727. And he said, why don't you, for like a week,

  728. go over to Hawaii hang out with his family and

  729. see if you click with any of his daughters. Now,

  730. Old Adam, number one, I get a choice.

  731. Number two.

  732. I get to be in Hawaii. Like this is like

  733. an Old Testament story right here, Like Dad, my dad

  734. had the dowry and everything and hand money in the pocket,

  735. like just pass this off to my friend. He'll take you, know,

  736. like he'll let you pick whatever one whether they want

  737. to be married you or not, you can do it.

  738. Just pick old At It would be like, that's the

  739. prophecy I signed up for. That was the one. And

  740. so I remember, I look at my dad and I

  741. tell my dad. I say, Dad, I'm not interested in

  742. a girlfriend right now. I just want to work in

  743. ministry and I have no interest in finding a woman

  744. right now. I just want to focus on ministry and

  745. I'm good. I'm not looking for that anymore.

  746. He says, all right, suit yourself.

  747. That was on a Sunday, because I drove over there

  748. after church that Friday. I see my wife in a

  749. volunteer meeting and I think that girl's really pretty.

  750. By Saturday night service.

  751. The next day, her parents are introducing us for the

  752. first time. And within a week, so within two weeks

  753. of saying that to my dad, I'm on my first

  754. date with my wife eleven years ago, and then within

  755. one year from there we're engaged. One year from that

  756. we're married. And about a few months before we were

  757. getting engaged. I just hear Mother Strong's voice in my

  758. ear because actually I think by this time she had

  759. went home to be with the Lord. I hear her

  760. voice in my head say, I told you you're gonna

  761. find your wife when you stop looking for a wife.

  762. And the moment, here's what I credit God's word to

  763. for that in moment which I have to remember regularly,

  764. was that when my dad said, hey, here's opportunity and

  765. I said, no, that's okay. God's given me contentment. The

  766. Lord fulfilled a promise. And a lot of times we

  767. forget how good God is because we're just looking for opportunity.

  768. But God doesn't give opportunity until you're like Mary and

  769. you're content just being with God. And if you can

  770. be content with God and you can really have faith

  771. that God is with you in whatever season you're in,

  772. then what will happen is like Mary says, she reflects,

  773. and she says, He's given me and he's used me,

  774. and he's filled me because of my hunger. Because for her,

  775. she's like, I just want to know God in my life.

  776. And then God was like, okay, now I can give

  777. you opportunity to do something great. And it won't be easy,

  778. but God's promises will be fulfilled. And so there are

  779. times in your own life that it's important. There's times

  780. in my life that I'm like, God, i don't see

  781. you in this season, and then I look over at

  782. my wife and I'm like, well, he was with me

  783. in that season when I met her, and so if

  784. he was with me in that season helping write my story,

  785. then he's got to be in this season helping write

  786. my story. And if I could just tune into the

  787. will of God and find contentment in the season God

  788. has me in, well, then He'll start to open whatever

  789. doors are necessary for my life. And so this Christmas

  790. season isn't just about recognizing this sweet baby that was

  791. born for us.

  792. It's also recognizing.

  793. That God used Mary, God used Joseph, God used the

  794. wise men, God used the shepherds, And in twenty twenty.

  795. Four, God can use you.

  796. Just like he looked at that donkey and he said

  797. I have need of it, he looks at you and

  798. he says I have need of you. So that's why

  799. we don't quit, That's why we don't check out, That's

  800. why we don't give up. Because God can use you,

  801. and God has use of You, and I let's pray today, God,

  802. we thank you for this word.

  803. Today Lord, I pray Lord that if.

  804. There's anyone here today, God, that they feel far from

  805. You in this place, Lord, but they feel broken, they

  806. feel destitute, that either their own life or things that

  807. have happened in their life have pulled them far from You,

  808. or maybe their own sin has pulled them far from You.

  809. God.

  810. I pray that in this moment, the love of Jesus

  811. is calling them to him. And I pray in this

  812. moment as they can recognize that as Jesus was born,

  813. not only was he born, he was born to die

  814. for You and I. Three days later, when he's put

  815. in that tomb, he would resurrect in the fullness of life.

  816. And You made a promise available to all of us

  817. that salvation is guaranteed for those who hunger and thirst

  818. for a relationship with God, who are willing to turn

  819. from their old ways and trust in Jesus. So God,

  820. I pray in this moment if there's anyone in this

  821. room that is ready for a fresh start in the

  822. name of Jesus, ready to give their life to Christ,

  823. ready to turn from their old ways and confess with

  824. their mouth that Jesus is Lord and Savior no matter

  825. where they're at.

  826. I pray right now that as we say this prayer out.

  827. Loud, we simply can affirm what the Holy Spirit is

  828. already doing in your life. So we're about to say
