  1. Well, if you have your Bible, turn to Mark chapter sixteen.

  2. If you've been with us at all during this year,

  3. we've kind of on top of a few worship nights

  4. and some other things, we've been plugging away over the

  5. past twelve months through the Book of Mark, and here

  6. we are find ourselves finishing.

  7. Today the entire chapter of Mark.

  8. I won't be able to do every single verse, but

  9. we will pull out a lot of the things that

  10. you may have not known before. If you read the

  11. Book of Mark on your own, probably about half of

  12. it is self explanatory, and then the other half is

  13. kind of what we're going to dig in to tonight.

  14. How many of you guys have ever surprised.

  15. Someone with like a gift?

  16. You ever given like a really good surprise before to

  17. someone and you held it in and it was something

  18. very thoughtful, something that was very orchestrated, And you know

  19. I did that, And I'll tell on Christmas kind of

  20. the same story too, because it connects with the Christmas

  21. message as well. But a couple months ago I had

  22. planned starting around in January, this year hit ten years

  23. since I had proposed to my wife, and so we

  24. had nine year anniversary this year. Next year, we'll celebrate

  25. ten years together married. And so I had an idea, Yeah,

  26. that's something to celebrate and excited about. And so I

  27. had planned essentially ten years ago. When I proposed to her.

  28. It started a series of kind of unfortunate events. I'd

  29. love to say we had the best engagement season ever,

  30. but we did it. A lot of stuff happened in

  31. our personal family life, a lot of like I lost

  32. to groom's been. It was just like it was really

  33. messy and it wasn't really a fun time. And so

  34. anytime we would kind of think about our wedding season,

  35. it was always filled with but also do you remember,

  36. and it would bring up a couple of those bad things.

  37. And so I had kind of fixed my head knowing

  38. that I would make it to a decade.

  39. I had great faith.

  40. So I said, if I make it to a decade

  41. with my wife, I'm gonna repropose because I'm gonna try

  42. to give her the wedding she deserves, not in terms

  43. of niceness, but in terms of just exciting and no

  44. drama at all, even though sometimes we can't escape that.

  45. So I started in January planning for this proposal, and

  46. in October. Ten months later, I had proposed to Ashley again,

  47. and I happened to do it in Mexico, and I

  48. told her, in twelve months, I've already booked this location.

  49. We're getting married at the same exact spot that I'm

  50. proposing to you right now in twelve months, like I've

  51. already put the deposit down, I've already done all the arrangements.

  52. I've already done. And so that was my surprise.

  53. And so ten months I worked on this surprise, and

  54. there was a couple times that I almost thought it

  55. would give away and she would catch it. At first,

  56. she says she didn't want to do a val renewal,

  57. and then about ninety days before I had this plan,

  58. she started saying, I think we should plan a vow renewal.

  59. And I was like, no, we're not, No, no vow

  60. renelk because I didn't want to get ahead of it

  61. and have to tell her. But because I've already done it,

  62. I've already done all the planning. So for me, the

  63. longest I've gone planning a surprise is at this point.

  64. It happened this year. About ten months is how long

  65. I held a secret for I held a surprise, And

  66. did you know in Jesus's earthly ministry he held a

  67. surprise for thirty three years. You see, he gave hints

  68. of his surprise at his birth. And we'll see in

  69. just a moment that there were tell signs. One of

  70. the tell signs that my wife thought that I was

  71. going to repropose is because about a month before I

  72. have a friend who's in the jewelry business, and I said, he.

  73. Offered to clean her ring for her.

  74. And at one day she goes, hey, do you think

  75. that he's not cleaning it? And he's like doing something

  76. to it? And I was like, no, that'd be impossible.

  77. He couldn't do that.

  78. So there were tell signs to her that was like

  79. she was putting together like I think you're working on something.

  80. Ultimately she did it. And here's what happens for the

  81. disciples of Jesus. Mark sixteen gives us away that there

  82. were tell signs that God has given us from the

  83. Old Testament to Jesus's birth, to Jesus's death, of Jesus's message.

  84. But guess what, even in those moments, Jesus's disciples still

  85. didn't put together fulling what Jesus came to do at

  86. Mark sixteen is the culmination of Jesus's engagement surprise. It's

  87. Jesus's surprise that said, Hey, my death, burial and resurrection

  88. was so that you can be in perfect relationship with

  89. God the Father. Everyone thought Jesus was coming and he

  90. was gonna wear at the time an earthly crown, and

  91. he was gonna kick all the worldly leaders off of

  92. their thrones, and Jesus was going to rule in power

  93. and might physically.

  94. But in order for Jesus to do.

  95. That, first he needs to own the heavenly places, the

  96. kingdom of heaven. And then we still look for the

  97. day that Jesus will return and set up his earthly kingdom.

  98. And so I want you to see for a moment,

  99. if you have your Bible, if you like taking notes,

  100. we're gonna do that together with because we're going to

  101. talk a little bit about and more than anything, as

  102. we conclude this entire book study, like we've shared, next

  103. week we.

  104. Have a family movie night.

  105. The week after that is our Tuesday Christmas Eve service,

  106. Then the week after that is Tuesday New Year's Eve service,

  107. and then the Wednesday after that we will launch.

  108. Into the Book of Joshua.

  109. And so we'll spend twelve months in the Old Testament

  110. next year, and we'll spend majority of Wednesdays in the

  111. Book of Joshua. And there's so much richness in the

  112. Book of Joshua that I promise you, like if you

  113. can make Wednesday nights part of your routine even online,

  114. you want to do that for the Book of Joshua.

  115. But in this case, we find ourselves landing a plane

  116. on the Book of Mark, and I want you to

  117. see some things as you take notes or you follow along.

  118. There's some important things to note that we're going to

  119. start writing on within our Bible. So because we come

  120. to Wednesday Night and we do this, if you're new,

  121. our Wednesday night's really here to interact with our Bible,

  122. to learn how to study the Bible, to.

  123. Learn how to readtext.

  124. Sundays are kind of more sermon with notes and points

  125. and all these type of things like that. Today we're

  126. gonna learn the scripture as we dig into. So here's

  127. what it says. At first, This is the first portion.

  128. If you're looking at a scripture, when the Sabbath was passed,

  129. Mary Magdalene, Mary the Mother of James and Salem bought

  130. spices so that they may go and annoint him. Speaking

  131. of Jesus, they believe he's in the tone at this point,

  132. and very early on the first day of the week,

  133. when the sun had risen, they went to the tune.

  134. Here's what I want you guys to notice right away.

  135. If you like taking notes, we just lost it.

  136. There we go.

  137. Okay, Well, if you guys want to take notes, can

  138. I get a slide up on the screen.

  139. Or let's see there we go.

  140. Okay, So if you're taking notes, I want you to

  141. see this. I want you to see what hobby works.

  142. And it says when Sabbath was passed. Here's what I

  143. want you to notice. Does anyone know what day is

  144. the Sabbath? Saturday? There we go. We already got some

  145. Bible scholars in the room, and so this day is

  146. after Saturday. So what day comes after Saturday? Sunday? So

  147. here they approached Jesus on a Sunday. So it was

  148. the day Mary and the three people they come and

  149. they approach Jesus.

  150. We'll start over right here. They approach Jesus.

  151. And if you interact with your Bible circle after the Sabbath,

  152. and so you're gonna put right here here we are

  153. on Sunday. This stuff's important to note because what happens

  154. is they come, the three individuals Mary, Mary, and Salom

  155. come and what do they come with? They come with

  156. spices that they bought. Does anyone know what spice is?

  157. They would have shown up with. More than likely they

  158. would have shown up with either frankincense or and both

  159. or and mrr. Does anyone remember when a time Frank

  160. and Sense and Mr Is mentioned in the Bible at

  161. Jesus's birth, Frank and Sense and Mr. Frank and Sense

  162. specifically was used in ceremonial worship. It's what they would

  163. dangle in ceremonial worship, and they would burn.

  164. In the synagogue.

  165. And so these gifts, the gold that Jesus has given,

  166. which we've seen in a few weeks, represents Jesus's kingdom,

  167. that he's a king. And then the frankincense represents this

  168. fact that Jesus is worthy to be worshiped.

  169. And then the murr is generally what was used in.

  170. Ceremonial worship or ceremonial burial. Because the bodies began to

  171. smell when someone died, and.

  172. So you would use this to cover up the smell.

  173. And so what happens is they show up with one

  174. of the gifts that Jesus was given at his birth.

  175. So thirty three years surprise.

  176. To come out and say, I was given muhr at

  177. my birth and you're gonna use muhr at my death.

  178. And this happens on a Sunday.

  179. And so what happens is they approach Jesus so that

  180. they could anoint him and prepare him. Here's what's important,

  181. and here's what should build your faith. It claims even

  182. more than that none of these things.

  183. Are surprises to God.

  184. If God sends the wise men to give these three

  185. gifts at Jesus's birth, and Jesus is showing up here

  186. and he's using this at his death through these individuals,

  187. it means there are no surprises for God, which means

  188. in your own life there are no surprises to God.

  189. If he takes this level of care and detail to

  190. his son's birth and his son's death, then guess what

  191. he is utilizing care and detail in your own life.

  192. And we take hope and joy that this is the reality.

  193. And so what happens is and very early on on

  194. the first day of week, when the sun had risen,

  195. they went to the tomb. Okay, I want you to

  196. see the next Let's read the next verse. Here's what

  197. it says, so we know what day it is now

  198. and are we able to go to the next next

  199. slide or is it frozen? Is frozen? We got some

  200. technical details today. It's always the day that you want

  201. to use something the most, like have you ever noticed that?

  202. It's like I haven't used this thing in like six weeks,

  203. and then it's like the day we want to use it.

  204. It's not there. Okay, here it is up on the top.

  205. And when they were saying to one another, who will

  206. roll away the stone for us? From the entrance of

  207. the tomb and looking up, they saw that a very

  208. large stone had been rolled back, and then let's go

  209. to the next one. And entering the tomb, they saw

  210. a young man sitting on the right side dressed in

  211. a white robe, and they were alarmed.

  212. I want you to see this for just a moment.

  213. What happens is and I'll just I guess I'll just

  214. use the frozen one to mark up really quick. If

  215. you're taking notes, is so, what happens is Jesus raises

  216. on us. I don't know if you've ever been asked

  217. before that someone has asked you, is how come you,

  218. as Christians go to church on a Sunday instead of

  219. a Friday when that's when Sabbath is or instead of

  220. a Saturday, which some people are on Saturday when the

  221. Sabbath is.

  222. Well, the reality is is because.

  223. We as believers, we celebrate Jesus's resurrection, not his death.

  224. So we go to.

  225. Church on Sunday because that celebrates the day. We already

  226. read it it was after the Sabbath, and so we

  227. read that we go to church to celebrate Jesus's resurrection.

  228. Many people have died on crosses, but on one has

  229. died on a cross in rows three days later, and

  230. so we go to church on Sunday to celebrate that

  231. Jesus has risen. So every Sunday is what you could

  232. call resurrection Sunday. And so you also notice what happens

  233. is is Jesus from basically about noon to three pm

  234. on Friday is when he's on the cross, and when

  235. he passed at three pm on Friday, at that time,

  236. the sun hadn't set in the Jewish Faith, their days

  237. don't operate like our days, basically from midnight to midnight.

  238. In the Jewish Faith, even.

  239. Still to this day, their days operate from sun up

  240. to sundown's that's twenty four hours from them. So when

  241. the sun goes up to when the sun goes down,

  242. that's twenty four hours. So on Friday, when Jesus passes

  243. away at three pm, we would call that technically our Thursday,

  244. that would be the Thursday. And so then what happens

  245. is on Saturday. So you have Friday, Saturday. Jesus raises

  246. on Sunday morning. That's how you get three days. Because

  247. you may read your Bible and you may be like, wait,

  248. if he passed away on this day, that's technically two days,

  249. that's not three full days. It is if you use

  250. their type of way that they tell time. And so

  251. what happens is we find that Jesus has risen on

  252. a Sunday, and we find that in this moment they

  253. were saying to one another, who will roll away the

  254. stone for us from the entrance of the tomb, and

  255. looking up they saw that the stone had already been.

  256. Rolled back, for it was very large. So now we immediately.

  257. See what happens is is some type of miracle has happened.

  258. Because they've expected to anoint Jesus's body.

  259. They've also expected.

  260. Here we are on a Sunday, it's been three days

  261. since Jesus has passed, and they come and this stole

  262. the stone is rolled away, and now we find Jesus.

  263. And they were saying to one another, or are we

  264. able to go to the next verse, or can we

  265. just go to the next verse on the on the

  266. screen we're gonna And entering the tomb, they saw young

  267. men sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe,

  268. and they were alarmed.

  269. You go to the next one. Do not be alarmed.

  270. You see Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has

  271. risen and he is not here see the place where

  272. they laid him. But go tell his disciples and Peter

  273. that he's going before you to Galilee.

  274. There you will see just as he told you.

  275. And they were trembling, and astonishment had seized them, and

  276. they said nothing to anyone, so they were afraid. Then

  277. what happens for a few verses is Jesus starts to

  278. make appearances to people to show them he was risen,

  279. And if you're following along in your Bible, I want

  280. you to see verse fourteen.

  281. Here's what happens.

  282. It says afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves, and

  283. they were reclining at the table, and he rebuilt them

  284. for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had

  285. not believed those who saw him after he had risen,

  286. and he had said to them, I want you to

  287. pause right there. So here's what happens. For the disciples.

  288. They spent three years of ministry with Jesus. They've walked

  289. with Jesus. They've heard Jesus preach, they heard Jesus heal people.

  290. They've heard Jesus on the Sermon of the Mount, they've

  291. seen Jesus walk on water.

  292. They've heard Jesus talk about the resurrection.

  293. So what happens is these individuals come to them, the

  294. ones who've seen Jesus eyewitness Mary Magdalency, and they go to.

  295. The disciples they say, hey, we've seen Jesus. He's risen.

  296. And their response wasn't Yes, this is what he's been

  297. talking about, this is what he's been preaching out, this

  298. is what we've been anticipating no. Instead, they respond with

  299. skepticism and say, if I don't see him, if I

  300. have been seeing them, then I don't believe it. And

  301. these are individuals who've walked with Jesus, these are individuals

  302. who've heard Jesus's message. These are individuals who've rested and

  303. given great faith, and they still don't believe, even so

  304. much so that the other gospels tell us that Peter

  305. picked up his old occupation.

  306. And went back to fishing.

  307. And we look at that and we go, man, these

  308. disciples they're wild. They don't trust Jesus like that, they

  309. don't love Jesus like that, they don't have faith in

  310. Jesus like that. But it mirrors our own relationship with Jesus,

  311. the amount of skepticism we.

  312. Have on a regular basis.

  313. If God can do something, we look at the care

  314. that God has placed in humanity. In his story of

  315. Jesus's birth, we see that God has been involved in all.

  316. Of our lives. And yet, time after time.

  317. When God wants to show up, we always not always,

  318. but there are times that we always respond to Jesus.

  319. With skepticism, not faith.

  320. And so in this message, as we see how the

  321. disciples reacted. We're meant to also see ourselves in that

  322. to say, where are times in my life that I've met.

  323. Jesus with skepticism.

  324. Show me first, Jesus, show me your hands, show me

  325. the scars, Show me that you care, show me that

  326. you answer prayers, show me that you love me, show

  327. me that you care about us.

  328. We signed up for three years.

  329. To walk with you, Jesus, and it's just it's over

  330. like that, and we all go back to our old

  331. ways just like that.

  332. But how many times have you and I done that?

  333. How many times have we Jesus to come and then

  334. we find ourselves back in our old ways, find ourselves

  335. back in our old habits.

  336. Well, because Jesus.

  337. Didn't match my timeline, because Jesus didn't match my needs,

  338. he needs to do a better job at proving himself.

  339. It was when I was growing up and still to

  340. this day, the family comes to our church and both

  341. of their sons want one lives up out of state

  342. in Washington, but Brandon Landrum, he still comes here at

  343. the church. And so I grew up with a family

  344. called the Landrums, and their whole family still serves on

  345. our security team and Mow and Winn he still serving.

  346. They lived right across the street from us.

  347. And there was a time where the game cube, the

  348. Nintendo GameCube, was blowing up. I don't know if anyone's

  349. old enough, either as a parent, grandparent, or just a

  350. millennial that you remember the Nintendo GameCube. That thing was

  351. so popular, That thing was so hard to get your

  352. hands on.

  353. Everybody wanted this thing.

  354. One day, my mom was checking out in a at

  355. Toys Rus of all places you all remember, you remember

  356. Jesus's play palace called Toys r Us, you guys remember,

  357. And so my mom's checking out at Toys r Russ.

  358. She sees a member of the church and a member

  359. of Trip's like, hey, pastor Cindy, and you know what

  360. do you do. Oh, I'm doing Christmas shopping for the boys.

  361. And she's like, oh that's great. And she's like, oh

  362. what what did you find everything you needed?

  363. She said, oh, yeah I did. But on their Christmas

  364. list was this.

  365. Thing called the game something something or another. And she said, oh,

  366. is it the GameCube? And and she said yeah. She said, oh, well,

  367. we have a riffle for it, but I can misplace

  368. one if you if you want it.

  369. And shoot, favor ain't fair. So my mom my mom

  370. was like, yeah, well, I mean if it won't.

  371. Get you in trouble, yeah, sure. So sure enough, on

  372. Christmas Day, we open up the GameCube, me and my

  373. brother Caleb. Nathan was too cool for video games back then.

  374. He played the flute or the violin or something something

  375. nerds play, so he's a he's not interesting.

  376. But me and Caleb we freak out and we're so excited.

  377. So we take it up to our bedroom and then

  378. all of a sudden, we hear Mo and we hear

  379. Brandon playing outside basketball.

  380. Because we all shared back, like, they had a basketball.

  381. Court on their side of the street and we had

  382. one on ours, and you can basically play full court

  383. between our two houses. So we hear them playing basketball,

  384. and we're like, hey, we should tell them we have

  385. a GameCube and then we should invite them over. So

  386. we yell out and we're like, hey, Mo, Brandon, we

  387. got a GameCube come Christmas. Immediately they're salty because they

  388. don't know that we're gonna invite them over, so they're like.

  389. What, how'd you get it? How'd you a mom got it?

  390. We just like and so they're taking it in as

  391. we're rubbing it in, like they're like, we don't believe

  392. you that.

  393. You got the GameCube. And we're like, it's plugged in.

  394. We can't take don't you hear?

  395. Like, so we're pulling the volume up right, we're restarting

  396. the system and it makes a little GameCube sound and

  397. all that kind of stuff, and they're like that.

  398. Could be anything, you know. We're like, it is.

  399. And then and then they're like, they're like, prove it.

  400. And so I bring the box, the GameCube box downstairs,

  401. and I give it to them, and then they and

  402. then they and then they too because we're talking. You know, kids,

  403. we just do weird things. So instead of talking at

  404. the front door, I ran back up to our bedroom

  405. to talk from the window from where they were at again,

  406. so I hand them the box and I run back upstairs,

  407. and the next thing you know, I see Brandon and

  408. Mo they're stepping on the box.

  409. They're like, you don't have no.

  410. This is fake, this is a lie, and they're stepping

  411. on the GameCube. And then we go fine and we

  412. close the door and we shut it and they never

  413. got to play the game cue.

  414. We didn't invite them over.

  415. They we we tried, We tried to provide every proof

  416. possible outside of them just physically coming up and playing

  417. it themselves. But every single proof we gave them the

  418. sound of the game being played, We gave them an

  419. eyewitness account, Hey, we were playing it right now, We

  420. gave them the package that it came in, like, hey,

  421. this was the game. And because they didn't get the

  422. glory of seeing it first, they didn't personally get it first.

  423. Instead, they responded in complete.

  424. Doubt and complete skepticism. And the Disciples are met with

  425. this same moment with Jesus. Well, if he was resurrected,

  426. I think he would probably show me first. Me and

  427. Jesus had a great relationship. Or if he was resurrected,

  428. why didn't he just come here first? Why why did

  429. he choose walking with people on the side of a street,

  430. or why did he choose you marry and what were

  431. you guys doing?

  432. And all these things.

  433. But the reality was everyone else had gone back to

  434. their occupations, and there were only three people that actually

  435. cared enough about Jesus's body to take care of it

  436. even though he was dead. And so they cared about

  437. Jesus even in the assumption that he was still dead,

  438. they still followed him, they still loved him. In a

  439. dormant three day period of seventy two hours, everybody else

  440. that followed Jesus just went back to everything else. But

  441. three people said, Hey, he may be dead in this moment,

  442. but we can still care for him, we can still

  443. love it. We may not be able to hear him

  444. right now, we may not be able to see him

  445. right now, but we could at least appreciate him for

  446. what he's already done. And they're the ones who see

  447. him because their faith was great, their care for Jesus

  448. was great. But what happens is he sees the disciples

  449. face to face, and in that moment, they're still struggling.

  450. They've seen eyewitness accounts, they've heard the great things that

  451. has happened that Jesus said would happen. Jesus is in

  452. the temple the week of his death, and he says

  453. that this place is going to be torn down and

  454. it's gonna be risen in three days, speaking of his

  455. own body. And guess what, when Jesus is dead, the

  456. whole veil in the temple gets torn down between humanity

  457. and God's never able to be restored again. There's all

  458. these signs, there's all these moments pointing to hey, when

  459. are you gonna choose to follow him?

  460. What are you gonna choose to believe him?

  461. And then here Jesus is face to face to the disciples,

  462. and one of them being Thomas Ghost.

  463. First, show me the scars.

  464. Anyone could look like Jesus like, what are you talking about? Bro?

  465. What do you mean?

  466. Anyone could look like Jesus. Jesus had nails in his hand.

  467. Show me the scars, and then maybe I'll start believing.

  468. And that's often where we find ourselves in our faith,

  469. that as God gives reassurance after reassurance after reassurance, we're like,

  470. show us the next thing. Oh, I hear the game cube,

  471. but I want I wanna show me the box. Oh

  472. I see the box now, Okay, I want to play it. Well,

  473. I've played it, But how come I don't have one now?

  474. And we're always measuring God off of all of these

  475. dues and all of these things and all of these expectations.

  476. And here's Jesus's response. I want you to see what

  477. Jesus says. Jesus makes a call to them, and he

  478. rebukes them for their unbelief. He's disappointed that the fact

  479. that they didn't believe. And then what happens is he

  480. starts to give them a decree, and he says, go

  481. into all the world and proclaim the Gospel to the

  482. whole creation.

  483. Whoever believes and.

  484. Is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe

  485. will be condemned. And so what happens in that moment

  486. that we could pause, as Jesus makes.

  487. It very clear at this time.

  488. And so we see that as Jesus walked the earth

  489. in his thirty three years, but particularly his three years

  490. of ministry, there was this continued kind of open invitation

  491. to say, hey, come and see, come and experience, Come

  492. and receive the Kingdom of God, Come and follow the

  493. son of Man, believe in the Son of God. And

  494. there was a lot of those conversations. Same way with

  495. my friends playing basketball outside, say hey, we were just

  496. about to be like, hey, come and play with us.

  497. It's the only thing missing.

  498. All we were all me and Caleb were looking for

  499. us for them to be like, that's aught celebrate with

  500. us of what we were blessed with, of what we

  501. saw and then come and enjoy it with us. So

  502. Jesus is at a moment now where he tells the

  503. disciples go in the world and preach the gospel. Tell

  504. them about the great news that the Son of Man

  505. is here. But also make it known that if they

  506. reject me in front of Man, I will reject them

  507. in front of my father. So now he gets like

  508. really sober, because before all of this it was the

  509. Kingdom of Heaven's at hand. Follow me, be part of

  510. my mission, priests the gospel. Now he's telling the disciples,

  511. I've done everything I need to do to prove who

  512. I am.

  513. Now it's time to make a decision. Now you got

  514. to let people know that salvation is here.

  515. Jesus was preaching about the potential of salvation being in

  516. his death and resurrection.

  517. But now he did exactly what he.

  518. Set out to do, and he fulfilled the surprise from

  519. his birth that anticipated the king would come. And guess

  520. what the King came because he holds all authority on

  521. heaven and earth. And it wasn't the way that the

  522. disciples thought it was going to be done, but it

  523. was the way that you.

  524. And I needed.

  525. So that two thousand years later we could receive Jesus

  526. and be welcomed into.

  527. The Kingdom of Heaven. And so he says, let them

  528. know that when you.

  529. Hear the gospel, there's a decision that has to be made.

  530. And then he says this, after he said, if they

  531. don't receive, they may be condemned. And he says, all

  532. these signs will accompany those who believe in my name.

  533. They will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues.

  534. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if

  535. they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them.

  536. They will lay their hands on the sick and they

  537. will recover. And so Jesus shares what happens is is

  538. during this time as you preach the gospel.

  539. What this is.

  540. Those were modern day things that were very common fears

  541. for someone that was a messenger of a particular weighty message.

  542. It's like, oh, what if someone tries to murder me? What? What?

  543. What if?

  544. What if I'm outside and I'm in the wilderness and

  545. all the snakes and animals and come and threaten me.

  546. He and so Jesus starts to make this degree. What

  547. what about what if I don't know the words that

  548. I need to say. I don't know if you've ever

  549. thought that before. I've been in conversation with someone and

  550. I'd be like, I'd no idea what to say right now.

  551. Either they share with me something that's absolutely humanly heartbreaking,

  552. I'm like, I don't know what to say to that,

  553. Or they say something that they found on YouTube from

  554. someone and they're like, what about that.

  555. I'm like, I don't know. That is such a niche

  556. question that you're asking.

  557. From Second Chronicles, chapter two, Versus three to four, I.

  558. Don't know that. And so what Jesus is doing.

  559. Because you're like, I don't remember the last time I

  560. held a serpent as a Christian. I don't remember the

  561. last time someone tried to poison me. And you're like,

  562. I don't how can I relate as a believer. That's

  563. not just what Jesus was talking about. What Jesus was

  564. talking about is these fears that if I step out

  565. and I share the message of Jesus, will God meet

  566. me at the place of sharing who Jesus is and

  567. Jesus at their time takes everything that.

  568. A person would do.

  569. To check off and be like I'm not I'm not

  570. gonna be on the team, like, hey, hey, Jesus, I

  571. was on the team, but I have a fear of snakes,

  572. and so uh, in order you know, in order to

  573. travel and talk about you, like I gotta I gotta,

  574. I gotta stay in a tent and I don't do tents,

  575. and so because that's the animals can get in.

  576. There, or Jesus, I I don't.

  577. I don't know that I could rely because you know

  578. how these jealous people are. When they're jealous of you,

  579. they like they'll poison your drink and try to kill you,

  580. or they'll go on social media and they'll talk about you,

  581. you know, or or or or or you'll lose relationships

  582. or you'll be heard in the process or whatever it

  583. may be. And so what Jesus says is he says,

  584. when you're talking about me, have boldness, that the Holy

  585. Spirit's gonna give you words, new tongues.

  586. He says, have boldness that a serpent.

  587. May try to kill you at night, but he's just

  588. gonna pick it up in your hand and be like

  589. this is nothing, and he's gonna protect you in the

  590. night time. Or what happens is if someone tries to

  591. poison you, it's not gonna affect you. And he's not

  592. just talking about poison of drink. He's talking about poison

  593. up words. He's talking about poison up gossip. He's talking

  594. about poison of fear. He's talking about a poison of

  595. a DM. He's talking about a poison of a Thanksgiving

  596. party that you might have just had.

  597. And whatever is.

  598. He's saying, if you're moving on the Lord's behalf and

  599. you've said yes to the Lord, can't.

  600. Say anything about anything else. But if you've said.

  601. Yes to the message of Jesus and living this thing out,

  602. he said, what happens is I'm gonna bring about protection

  603. with you.

  604. You don't have to worry about that.

  605. And so therefore what he's trying to do for the

  606. disciples is not only trying to create boldness for them.

  607. He's trying to create boldness to.

  608. Those that they would share the gospel with, to say,

  609. you know what, God is on your side. And then

  610. Jesus closes, as I begin to close, I had a

  611. lot of interaction on the screen plan, but we all

  612. did that with our head tonight is what we did.

  613. So it says this in verse nineteen. So then the

  614. Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken

  615. up to heaven and sat down at the right hand

  616. of God. And they went out and preached everywhere while

  617. the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by

  618. accompanying signs. So for those next, what would happen is Jesus,

  619. after he would resurrect for forty days, he would spend

  620. time with his disciples, and he would be preparing them

  621. for the task at hand. And you'll notice when we

  622. read he appeared to eleven disciples, not twelve, because Judas

  623. he had already turned on Jesus. He had hung himself

  624. because of the grief that he had had. And so

  625. now Jesus he approaches to the eleven and he tells them,

  626. go and be bold about preaching my message, and don't

  627. fear any earthly or humanly thing that can hurt you

  628. or harm you. And then he says, and then what's

  629. gonna happen is in that moment he sends, and we

  630. ask ourselves, where's Jesus now? He's where he was the

  631. day he ascended. He sits at the right hand of

  632. the Father. Other verses in the New Testament tell Us

  633. that he intercedes for you like he knows your name.

  634. And as you face this life on earth, Jesus goes

  635. for you to the Father on your behalf. And so

  636. you have the Holy Spirit working inside of you. You

  637. have Jesus, who's right next to the Father, speaking on

  638. your behalf. And then you have the Father who's orchestrating everything,

  639. saying I got them, I'm under control. Everything is under

  640. God's control. Every season, every place, every platform, every leader,

  641. every nation, every city, every continent is under the hand

  642. of God and under the authority of Jesus. And when

  643. Jesus goes to the right hand of the Father, what

  644. does he teak tell us to do. He says, go

  645. therefore and preach the gospel. He doesn't say go out

  646. and be a good person. He doesn't say go out

  647. and give good vibes. He doesn't say, hey, go give

  648. great gifts.

  649. He doesn't say.

  650. Find the least fortunate person and help them out during Christmas.

  651. Those are expressions of the goodness of God. But what

  652. he says is he says, preach the message. Preach the

  653. gospel that he died and rose again. Preach the message

  654. God orchestrated for thirty three years, but also since the

  655. creation of humanity, that Jesus would be born and die

  656. and raise again. If there's any story God wants you

  657. and I to tell regularly, it's that one and how

  658. that one has affected your life and changed your life.

  659. That's what he wants you and I to do.

  660. I enjoy talking about a lot of other things, but

  661. he doesn't care about us talking about any of the

  662. other things.

  663. Talking about sports.

  664. I enjoy talking about business, I enjoy talking about politics.

  665. But God is not in heaven like, yeah, yeah, Adam,

  666. tell him.

  667. Tell him your theory about what's going on in the

  668. world right now in this country. He's like, He's like,

  669. that's all he's completely aware of. He's like, Adam, I

  670. want you to tell the story again about what Jesus did.

  671. God the Father wants.

  672. To hear his son's story told over and over and

  673. over because every person is going to receive that story

  674. in their life differently, over and over and over again.

  675. So he doesn't get tired with that story.

  676. He doesn't get tired with the gospel since he's given

  677. it to the disciples.

  678. It's the only thing you and I can still repeat.

  679. That was one of the last things that Jesus had

  680. commanded his church to do, which is that Jesus's ministry

  681. is real. The miracles he has done is real. The

  682. message he has set out to fulfill has been completed.

  683. And anyone who's looking for life, and anyone that's looking

  684. for hope, call upon his name. Don't stop on God's word,

  685. don't stop on God's worship, don't put out on prayer,

  686. and be like Jesus. You're not meeting my prayers, you're

  687. not meeting my needs.

  688. The reality is.

  689. Jesus is with you everywhere that you go, and the

  690. Holy Spirit is there to enable you everywhere that you go.

  691. And Jesus.

  692. That book closes in Mark chapter sixteen with Jesus giving

  693. you and I command.

  694. To priest the gospel to baptize people.

  695. And then when he gave that, he said, I'm out,

  696. and he went to heaven.

  697. And what he did was he put that authority.

  698. In mine, in your hands, and he says, the Holy

  699. Spirit will work with you.

  700. But now it's in your hands.

  701. So God wants you and I to participate in that message.

  702. And so you and I have an opportunity to first

  703. step to participation.

  704. As I close is first to.

  705. Do as Jesus said that, as you hear the gospel

  706. and the hope of Jesus is the good news, So

  707. would you respond in saying, yes, Lord, I choose to

  708. follow you.

  709. Would you believe that gospel.

  710. Whether you're skeptic today or whether you've been questioning or wondering,

  711. the reality is is Jesus is real, His salvation is real,

  712. and what he did is real. He died on the

  713. cross and he rose three days later. So, as the

  714. Holy Spirit speaks to you tonight, whether you're online or

  715. you're in this room, I encourage you that if you

  716. don't know Jesus Christ is your personal Lord and Savior,

  717. and you've never given your faith to him, today, that

  718. right now is the moment to make a choice. You know,

  719. I shared about on Sunday this past Sunday that everybody

  720. has a birthday, but not everybody has a second birthday.

  721. In the Book of.

  722. Revelation, it's recorded that the person who would say yes

  723. to Jesus Christ and follow him, it's written in a

  724. book called the Lamb's Book of Life. And one day

  725. you'll stand before God and you're name will be opened

  726. in that book and it will either be confirmed on

  727. the date that you made Jesus your Lord and savior

  728. as a second birth, or the person will say the

  729. angel will say, their name's not recorded here. And that's

  730. what Jesus told his disciples. There will be a day

  731. that a person will be condemned. In other words, they'll

  732. be rejected, not because God wants to reject them, but

  733. because they rejected Jesus.

  734. And if you reject.

  735. Jesus, you can't all of sudden find yourself in the

  736. bedroom playing the Nintendo and going, Jesus, this is all

  737. I needed. I just needed to see the GameCube myself.

  738. It's too late at that point. God wants faith because

  739. if it wasn't faith, and he had to bring you

  740. to heaven to show you he made the decision for you.

  741. At that point, there's no way you're not gonna see

  742. heaven and see God's goodness. But faith will recognize the

  743. fact that you recognize that you needed a savior, you

  744. needed Jesus. That's what faith is. I didn't tell my wife,

  745. will you marry me? I promise, well, I'll never cheat

  746. on you, I'll never have a dorse. And the way

  747. that I'm gonna prove it is I'm gonna lock myself

  748. in a jail cell for seventy years and never talk

  749. to another woman.

  750. That wouldn't be.

  751. Faith, that would be forced separation, to never be able

  752. to make that mistake. And so, in other words, when

  753. you get married, you're taking a step of faith. When

  754. you make vows, that's a step of faith. There's no

  755. way you can assure that other than you saying, take

  756. this journey with me. And so when we say yes

  757. to Jesus, it's this moment of marriage that says, Jesus,

  758. I'm ready to take that faith journey with you.

  759. I'm ready to rock with you. I'm ready.

  760. I'm ready to commit my life to you in this moment.

  761. And then throughout our life we begin to reveal as

  762. the Holy Spirit gives you strength.

  763. You don't walk into the.

  764. Relationship with Jesus a perfect person. You walk into the

  765. relationship with Jesus as a broken person that allows God

  766. to put you back together. So as we give our

  767. life to Jesus Christ for recognizing how much we need

  768. his grace, how much we need that salvation. And so

  769. if you're here in this room or you're watching online,

  770. when we all bow our heads and close our eyes, is.

  771. There's gonna be some people in here who are gonna

  772. be saying this prayer for the first time.

  773. They're gonna be rededicating their life.

  774. It's the best decision we could ever make in our

  775. life when we say this prayer. This prayer is not

  776. the thing that saves you. All we're doing is affirming

  777. the good work that God has already done.

  778. So, if you're in this place, would you join me

  779. in saying this today?

  780. Would you say, dear Lord Jesus, in this moment, I

  781. confess you as Lord and Savior.

  782. I repent of my sins.

  783. Now I believe in my heart that Jesus rose from

  784. the dead, and from this day forward I commit to

  785. follow you for the rest of my days.

  786. In Jesus's name, Amen,
