That Day | Joshua 1:10-18 | Pastor Diego Mesa

We're in the Book of Joshua.

I love Joshua so much so that I named two

of my son's middle names Joshua. So there's Nathan Joshua Messa,

Caleb Joshua Messa. And then Sidy wouldn't let me name

Adam Joshua Messa. But actually Adam's name is supposed to

be Diego Joshua Messa. That's Adam's supposed to be his name.

But there's so many Diego's in my family. Cindy didn't

want another Diego, so she said, we're not naming him Diego.

And she said, you could chose any other biblical name.

So I said, okay, he's Adams. He's the first man,

and that's going to remind me of something. And she said, no,

that's enough Joshuas I said, you know what I give in.

What do you want to name it? She said, oh,

I love my brother's.

Name Daniel Danny, so we'll call him Daniel and Danny.

And so that's how Pastor Adam, not that you cared

about it. But anyways, we're talking about the Book of Joshua.

Let's read a little bit and let's break this down.

You guys got your journals. We're working this year through

like we did last year with the Book of Mark,

kind of doing an expository, digging down deep and letting

you understand the history of the book or the scripture

ins which it was written, the overwhelming story because every

single book of the Bible, virtually every verse points to

one person.

His name is Jesus.

The book is his book, and the message is all

about Jesus.

So Joshua is like that.

Joshua saves like Jesus saves, and that's what Joshua. And

we'll read it now from ten to eighteen. Then Joshua,

and I'll ascuse me, I'll annunciate stronger the words that

I'm going to preach on. Then Joshua commanded the officers

of the people pass through the camp. Command the people,

prepare provisions for yourself for within three days.

Three days how many days was Jesus in the grave

before it was resurrected. Three days.

Everything is a type in shadow, he says, in three

days you will cross over this Jordan to go into

and possess the land which the Lord your God.

Is giving you to possess.

And to the Rubenites, the Gadites and have the tribe

of Manassa.

Remember those three names.

Joshua spoke, saying, remember the word which Moses, the servant

of the Lord, commanded you, saying, the Lord your God

has given you rest and is giving.

You this land.

Your wives and your little ones and your livestocks shall

remain in the land which the Moses gave you on

this side of Jordan.

He's rehearsing something.

That took place previously under Moses's leadership. He's reminding these

three tribes. But you shall pass before your brethren the

rest of the tribes. Now, all your mighty men, say men.

He didn't send the women. He set the men to lead.

Men of valor, men of might. Men are supposed to

lead their families into the promises of God. Men are

the protectors. Men are the true preservers and examples and models.

Before your brethren, all the mighty men of valor, not

the sissies.

Sissys.

Stay home, men of valor, and help them help your brothers. Now,

until the Lord has given your brother's rest, you can't

forget the people that don't have rest just because you

have rest. I could see that went over real great.

As he gave you and they also have taken possession

of the land which the Lord God is giving them.

Then you shall return to the land of your possession

and enjoy it.

That's the place where the land that Moses gave you.

Because of the vastness of your cattle, he was able

to give you that land. Then he says, you'll go

back to it which Moses servant, the Lord gave you

on the side of the Jordan toward the sunrise. So

they answered Joshua, saying, all that you command us, we

will do wherever you send us. We will go just

as we heed in Moses and all things so.

We will heed you.

Only the Lord, your God be with you as he

was with Moses. Who sever rebels against your commandments and

does not heed your words in all that you have

commanded him, shall be put to death. And it's going

to end here. Only be strong and of good courage.

I forgot to have you stand. You guys should have

stood automatically. Shame on you, Shame on you. Let's talk

a little bit about what we just read.

I just simply want to talk about.

That day or the day that they entered into the

Promised Land, the day that they crossed.

Over forty years of waiting. It was the.

I don't know if you've ever circled I know we

don't do it anymore, but symbolically circled a date on

the calendar that represented an especial day for you.

Maybe it was a wedding day.

On this day we are going to get married, or

maybe it was a vacation day or retirement day, or

for many couples, it's the day that they're gonna get

delivered a baby kind of thing. Our friend Lester and Kirstening,

great members of this church, just adopted nearly ten years

of marriage and never having children and waiting two years

for the adoption. It just took place a couple weeks

ago and Abigail came into them.

A great event.

It was that day after ten years of waiting or

two years of searching. What an excitement for them, as

it was for the children of Israel. That day the

waiting was over, the delays were over, and the denials

were over, and it had finally come and had finally arrived.

And that's a hope for you that the promises that

God has for you are going to come to pass,

and there's going to come a day when you are

going to see the manifestations of those promises, whether it's

your children saved, whatever it is your body healed, or

whether it is just being set free and delivered.

That day will come.

And you need to be anticipating it and you need

to be excited about it. The first point I want

to talk about is what we highlighted. Didn't know that

the second song in our collection today on worship would

be about strong and strength and the joy of the Lord.

But the thought is this, that day is the day

that you are to be strong and courageous. There's a

day in your life that either is today or tomorrow,

and on that day, you're gonna need to be strong

and you're.

Gonna need to be courageous.

That is a certain mentality that you need to have,

a certain mindset that you need to have. Why Because

there was a previous type of people, a generation that

didn't have that mindset. They refused to be strong and courageous.

They were individuals that struggled with their faith. They were

a stubborn generation. They were a murmuring, gossiping, complaining generation.

They were an entitlement generation. They were a very worldly

and cardinal generation. But This generation is a different generation.

This Christian you I'm talking about have a different mentality,

and you want to possess the promises of God. You

want to see the best that God has for you.

I'm preaching better than your amn me, but I'll keep

going on that day be strong and courageous. What day

am I talking about? Let me bring application to you,

because the Bible tells me in Ephesians six ' ten

be strong in the Lord and the power of his mind.

Not necessarily in your intellect, not necessarily in your looks,

not necessarily in your possessions. Be strong in the Lord,

because those things come sometimes can't allow you to rebound

from the devastations of life.

Ask all the victims of the fire.

It's the strength in the Lord that's going to allow

them to recover when they've suffered so many losses in

their lives. But the reality is this, That day is

the day that you experience death, loss and grief. That's

the day God says you're to be strong. It's the

day that Moses died and they're grieving and He comes

to them. On that day that you've experienced death, is

the day that I command you to be strong. And

I will give you strength for the losses that.

Are in your life. On that day when you are

going somewhere you've never been.

Before, you're crossing over, you're going into a new place

you've never been before.

And you're nervous and you're timid and you're shy.

On that day, be strong in the Lord and in

the power of His might.

On that day when.

You are willing to put the pass behind.

You and let it go to move forward.

On that day when you can't seem to let go

of the grip, when you don't know how to let

go of the grip, when it's unfamiliar to you. This

thing has been such part of your life, your personality,

you don't know how you'll make it. On that day,

be strong in the Lord and the powers might. The

day you will be asked to lead something that you

have never led before, is the cry of Joshua. Joshua's

was never in the driver's seat ever. He was never

the leader. But now God is calling on him, like

he's calling on you on your jobs and in your

home and in your family. It's time to lead and

step up. That's the day when I need to be

strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.

You're strong in the Lord and the power of His

might on that day when you go into waiting Molde

and believing mode and faith mode for something that awaits you.

It's the only way for you to be strong in

the Lord, when you go into waiting mode, when you're

just I'm just gonna stand. I'm just gonna trust God

for my husband to be saved. I'm just gonna wait

on the Lord. But I can't do it on my

own because they're acting crazy. She's acting crazy. He acting crazy.

The boss is acting crazy. But you know what, I'm

strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

And I had one more. It's not in your notes

but or the thoughts of my sermon and lesson today.

It's this is the fact that my joy is not

hooked up to people, things and circumstances, but in Jesus

on that day, on that day, I can't I can't

allow my joy to be put into you. I can't

allow my joy to be put in stuff and things

in circumstances. My joy has absolutely got to be in Jesus.

That's the only way for me to be strong in

the Lord and his power of his might. So the

Bible talks about how to be strong. He's one thing

to say, be strong in these dire situations, in these

transitions of our lives. But the Bible is very clear

how to be strong because he says I Am with you.

I know that guy sounds so cliche to say that,

eman you well, God with you, when the names of

God is Jehovah shama, which means the Lord is there,

The Lord is with you, the Lord is here. And

we can sing about it and say it's so cliche

that God is with you, but we've got to really

believe that in the most difficult, hard times with us,

that God is with us. And if I know that

God is with me, then I can be strong no

matter what season I'm in or no matter what I'm

going through. But if I let the devil question and

lie to me that there is no God, or that

God has forsaken you, in abandon you and left you,

then I'm going to be overwhelmed by the circumstances. But

God is ever present, and I challenge you today, he

is even more present when you're going through your most

difficult I know what I'm preaching about.

I know what I'm saying today.

God has a grace for you that's reserved for your

most difficult time.

And you'll never get that grace.

And you have an element of grace, but you'll never

see that unmeasurable grace, that outpoint of grace, that overflowing grace,

until it's reserved. It's reserved for those moments of hardships.

She got to know how to be strong and the

Lord is to know that God is with me. When

I was a little boy, I don't know how old

I was, maybe twelve thirteen around that age.

I haven't told this story in a long time.

I had a friend of mine. He was the big

kid on the street and his name was Kenny. His

name was Kenny, and you know, Kenny by far was

like a head and shoulder taller than all of us.

He was like this little kid that you know, you know,

looked like he had a man.

Body, looked like he was already.

Had peach fuzz and had defined muscles. How maybe know

where we're all blabby? How many of you know our

chest and our stomachs are just one.

There are no six pack, just one pack.

He's that little kid that already you know can can

lift one hundred pounds over his head. You know, he's

that kind of kid, you know, just very very intimidated looking.

Well, he was my friend.

And across the way was a guy that was picking

on me at school.

He was a bully.

And this guy said, you know what I'm gonna when

I get home, I'm gonna knock your block off. I'm

gonna i'm gonna beat you up, and i'm gonna jack

you up.

And you know what, I used to belong to a gang.

I don't know. That's what he said.

And I'm gonna knife you and i'm gonna you know,

I'm gonna slice you up, I'm gonna jack you and

so so I just said, hey, Kenny, this kid he

wants to mess me up, but I really am afraid

of him, like he might be telling the truth.

Will you go with me? And Kenny said, I'll go

with you.

And it's amazing how much strength and courage I had

when I had Kinny with me. I said, Kenny, I'm

gonna go up that door, and true story, Kenny, I'm

going up to that door and I'm gonna knock.

I just need you to.

Be in the in the in the eyesight behind me,

so that when he sees me, he'll see you behind me.

And so so that was a plan. So I knock

on the door and I said.

Hey, yeah, I'm calling you out right now. I'm calling

you out right now. He wouldn't come out of the house.

He wouldn't come out of the house, not because of me,

but because Kenny was my backup. Kenny got my back,

and Jesus saying, I got your back.

I'm with you.

I know it's scary sometimes and I know the bully

is looking down your face, and I know the devil

has lined you, but.

Just know I am with you.

The second thing to give us strength is he tells

you just obey my word. Live in my word, read

my word, study my word, live your life around my word,

build your life around my word. And if you do that,

that's going to give you unmeasurable strength.

It's going to give you power.

And ability and capability in all aspects of your life.

And so you'll have strength again when you know the

word of God. It is our daily prescription and intake

that we need. It's our prescribed intake. You know, they

say you need two thousand calories a day. How many

scriptures do you need? Do you think to maintain your

nutritional strength one snack a week? I don't know. I

think it's more than that. You and I have to

have our own self feeding program. You can't depend up

on the preacher to say, okay, open your mouth on a.

Spoonfeeding now, chi chi chi chitchu.

Okay, I'll see you next week, three weeks from now,

three months from now.

Now, you got to.

Feed every day. That's where your strength is going to

come from. It's self renewal of the transfers of the

mind Romans twelve one and two, one of the best verses.

In the entire Bible.

I beseech you there, for brethren, by the mercies of God,

that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, wholy and

acceptable on to God.

Which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed

by the renewing of your mind. Get this in here

so it can change your outlook or perspective and how

you think.

That's how you're going to gain strength in your life.

And it's your self workout program to develop the muscles

that are in your life and my life. It's not

the size of your muscles that give you strength. It's

the size of your heart that gives you strength. Here's

the second thing, he says. The second word is this

word preparation. That day of preparation, when I am ready

to occupy and possess, layhold, and take hold, the day

of preparation, when I walk in my God given authority,

on that day of preparation, when I am ready to

break the boundaries and limitations and restrictions, because they will

break the boundaries in their lives now, And that's what

preparation will begin to do. It will allow you to

break some boundaries that are in your life, some restrictions

in your life, and some hindrances in your life. When

you're prepared, When you're prepared financially, you'll break boundaries. When

you're prepared, skill wise and knowledge, you'll break boundaries. When

you're prepared maturity, in your faith and in your spirit,

you'll break boundaries in your life.

So you have to prepare. You're not going to be

able to cross over to get somewhere you've never been.

Before, to leave something behind unless you prepare. You got

to prepare. The Bible says this in Proverbs twenty one.

The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but

deliverances of the Lord. You got to prepare that horse

for battle. He's got to be taught. He's got to

be trained. And then I love this. I know this

is Pastor Kinney one of his favorite verses. But don't begin,

excuse me, don't begin until you count the costs. Don't

start anything, don't commit to anything until you've counted the cost.

For who would begin construction of a building without first

calculating the cost to see if there's enough.

Money to finish it.

How many of you know you not go down the

car dealer and buy a car if you don't know

how much you can afford. You're not going to look

at a new house and walk through it. If you

don't know how much you could afford on a monthly payment.

You can't go over there and engage somebody if you

don't know if I could afford them.

Well, finally you woke up. You can't engage a person

I don't know if I could afford.

You, your high rant, your high maintenance. We don't do

Gucci in my house. Maybe coach, but not Gucci. People

don't count the cost.

Nothing wrong with.

Marrying people with five kids already, but count.

The cost getting too personal.

Hat The Bible goes on and it says, don't begin

until acount the cost. For who would begin construction of

building without first calculating the cost to see if there's

enough to finish it? Otherwise you might complete only the

foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would.

Laugh at you.

They would say that there's that person who started that

building and couldn't afford.

To finish it.

Or what king would go to war against another king

without sitting down with the counselors to us whether his

army of ten thousand could to beat twenty thousand soldiers

marching again. That's what I had to do when I

went against that bully.

I can't do it. I got kidding. I could do this.

I'll go ahead and count the car I could do this.

It's preparedness. There's a great parable in the Bible of

the ten Virgins. Five missed out because they didn't prepare.

God loved them. They might have been good Christians.

But they were not prepared, and so they went through

something they didn't have to go through, where the other

five went through with Jesus and experienced some level of

victory or reward or whatever you might want to look at,

all because of preparation from their oil that they had

in their life.

Let me give you some cheos.

They're going to be on the screen today because preparation

is the key. Today's preparation is the answer for tomorrow's problems. Okay,

are you prepared to retire?

You're prepared to get sick, Not that you won't, we're

gonna believe you won't. But are you prepared? You're prepared

to get out of debt? You prepared? You're prepared to

buy a home, buy a car. You prepared.

You're prepared to live a long life. It's more than

a confession, it's a lifestyle. Have you prepared?

How are you eating? Look at somebody said, I think

he's talking to you now.

I know you're eating good now because you're on the

twenty one day fast, but some of you are counting

the days till.

The fast over.

You've already figured out your first meal. I know you

have be careful because it's going to come out of

you real quickly.

Take it easy now.

Maybe start off with some nice soup and something soft.

You eat like an old person, right, away. If now

you're going to waste.

All that money and it's going to be in the

toilet bowl, and what are we going to do with it?

What am I talking about? I don't know what I'm

talking about.

Today's preparation is the answer to tomorrow's problems. I me

even know that we had some power outage. Yeah that

was unfortunate, But you know what, I went in, got

my gas put in my generators, like the fourth of

July in my house. Sorry, you probably saw my house

from wherever you live. I'm not trying to boast. I

just had a generator because I didn't have a generator before.

And I was over there bumping my toe in the

middle of the darkness. My flashlights were dead. I didn't

have batteries. Who am I that dog on devil? I

rebuked the devil for still in my batteries. No, you've

had two years to put batteries in that flashlight.

Preparedness what blackout? Seeing steak.

Fish? Listen to music TV.

Let's watch that next movie, right, kick another one in?

Were gonna beinge what I'm trying to make you mad?

Come on, let's go on. If you're not over prepared,

then you're underprepared. It's better to be prepared than to repair.

Preparing is a habit and discipline before you play. And

if you're not, and if you're always caught off guard

and everything is a surprise to you, you're not prepared.

Here's what I'm trying to tell you today. Here's some things,

you know what. I just made mention of a few

things to prepare for, but I'll leave them as that

physical spiritual. So I'm preparing my marriage for difficult times.

Preparing your children to be godly children. How do you

prepare children to be godly children? It's a preparation involved.

How do you prepare to have a godly marriage and

stay married for the next fifty years of your life.

That's a preparation that takes place. But you and I

need to be preparing our character. We need to be

preparing our heart. We need to be preparing our knowledge,

our skills. Preparation looks like hard work. That's all you prepare,

work hard, you know, all you prepare, finish your project,

and all you prepare keep your vows. Those are words

say no to temptation. That's a preparation for you and

I to have. I'm amazed by the aunt because the

aunt is always preparing for something. He's always prepared. I've

never seen a homeless aunt. I've never seen a starving ant.

Right now, it's cold, he's chilling right now. Some of

your barbecue from the summer, some ribs from Lucile's. He's

eating that rib that you thought you left out for

the next day as a left Oh no, he stole

that in the middle.

Of the night.

He's prepared. He's prepared. How many of you've ever seen

a Swiss army knife. A swift army knife has thirty

three functions in it. It's always prepared. It's prepared to

help wherever it needs to be helped. And that's how

we need to be in life, like a Swiss army knife.

You know, I have a lot of fruit trees, whatever tree,

whatever fruit grows.

In this zone, it's in my backyard.

The problem with some of these, like the peaches, the plums, nectarines,

they kind of all get riped around the same time,

Like there's like two three week window, and my trees

are I can't eat that many peaches and plums, and

so then the birds get them or they fall on

the ground.

Kind of thing this year.

I can them, I save them. I was preparing guess

what I had to not some peaches, don't get jealous.

I had plums tonight. I had figs tonight. They're not

in season, but in my home they're in season because

of preparation. And you and I can avoid so many

things if we, if we, if we use the.

Discipline of preparedness.

Because life has its troubles, life has its adversities.

And so let me let me give.

You a couple of quotes right now, and I'm gonna

wine this message up. Let me give you a couple quotes.

Willie George said, rising too. The case is a myth.

We operate at a level of preparation. You're able to

conquer that because you were prepared to conquer it, your prayer, life,

your skill, your competency, your wisdom, your character. There's another quote,

and this quote says this, do all you can in

the natural, pray in the spiritual, and it will become

a supernatural outcome. Christians, Please do this, Please do this.

I've seen both extremes. I see, well, I'm just gonna pray.

I'm just gonna pray. No, just you're gonna pray and

you're gonna do something, Well, I'm just gonna do things

in the natural and I'm not gonna pray. Well, then

you it might work, and it may not work. Do

everything you can in the natural, everything you can in

the natural. Don't be lazy, don't procrastinate, don't be neglectful.

Do everything you can in the natural. Then pray and

believe God and the spiritual to bless it and to

do what you can't do, and it will always become

a supernatural al This property would not be here if

we just gave it to prayer.

Oh, Lord, show us the property. Lord, manifest the property. God,

give it to us.

God, we won't do the echas of Landlord, Lord Jesus,

give us some I had a real estate team. Now

go find me the land. Go search for the land.

Go out and see what the land is going for.

Go out and price everything. Go out, and we did

everything in the natural. We prayed in the spiritual, and

it turned out to be supernatural results. That's the way you.

Do it, absolutely the way that you do it.

One more quick point and then we'll bring the conclusion.

Remember remember.

Remember Rubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manassa.

I'm gonna read you this statement.

I think it's going to be on the screen. The Rubenites,

the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manassa must remember

God's goodness and generosity and grace. Is that all I'm

gonna get? I think that's all I'm gonna get, So

I'll read the rest to you. Ruben Gadites and Manassa

must remember God's goodness, grace and generosity he has given

to you. Now you're being called upon to give it

to someone else. Because the first word he said, remember

you've forgotten how good God's been to you, haven't you

because you don't want to extend that goodness to nobody else.

He's saying, Brothers, remember when you didn't have Moses blessed you.

You asked for land for your cattle.

He said, I'm gonna give you land, But there's coming

a day when we're going to cross over the Jordan,

and I need you to raise up your strong, mighty

men of valor to go help your brothers so that

they can get some land too. Don't you forget you

got a debt that you've got to pay. Now there

ain't no renegotiation. Oh, we made that deal with Moses. No,

you made it before God. And thank God for joshuas

that hold us accountable to the vows and to the

promises of God that are not insecure but representing God

and said, wait a minute, you made a promise. Here,

ain't no reniging on your promise. It's time for you

to pay your debt, Manassa. No matter how good times

are right now, Goadites and Rubenites, don't forget your brothers

that don't have rest. Rest when you have rest and

in conclusion, only by moving forward, will you see what

God sees? I meane, will you? Will you see what

God wants you to see. You will have what God

wants you to have. You'll be what God wants you

to be. You'll do what God wants you to do,

and you'll go wherever God wants you to go. Please

understand that's God's definition of success and prosperity. Okay, I'll

say it again. If I was to asked you today,

give me a definition of success, be a thousand explanations definition.

But let me give you God's definition of success and

prosperity found in Joshua one and eight.

He talks about it there. Success. The definition of success and.

Prosperity is for you to do what God told you

to do. Be what God told you to be, have

what God told told you to have, go where God

told you to go. That's success. Success is not measured.

By what you have or what you have and me in.

Comparison to that, I'm a success because I did what

God told me to do. I'm a sex success because

I became what God wanted me to become. I'm a

success because I have what God told me to have.

Now I'm a success. You define success.

Father.

I thank you for the message today. I pray it

resonates in the heart of all of us today. Oh God,

we want to be that Joshua generation God, and it's

time for us to cross over somewhere. God, what are

we preparing for? What am I prepared? What am I

prepared for? What am I not prepared for?

God?

We just asked you, God, to help us to be strong,

help us in our preparation, and help us to always

remember our brothers and sisters, Oh God, in the goodness

and kindness and generosity that you have bestowed upon us.

Sometimes will be called upon to help them in Jesus' name. Amen,

can we give the Lord a clap offer in today?

Coming to church today, Thank you for working through the

Book of Joshua. By the way, you guys do look good.

How many of you have lost a few pounds in

this fast?

Good?

How many of you have gained weight in the fast?

There's a trick quite one pan back there, But God,

I wonder what kind of fast you're on. Anyways, here's

what I know. You and I are one German when virus,

when accident and mishap away from Heaven's gate and Hell's doors.

This church averages anywhere between one to three funerals a week.

We have so many funerals that we are one of

the few churches that has a full time funeral director.

Full time, that's all they do, and Tracy does a

masterful job at doing it. But that just tells you

how many funerals we have. And let me be honest

with you, they're not for ninety year old people. I'm

not trying to bring fear. I want you to live

another one hundred years. But they're people my age and

they're people your age. I wish we could prepare to die.

Sometimes you can in some molm and fat. But when

you're being rear ended and driven off of a freeway,

no time to prepare.

What do you do?

When you do it something that you've done a thousand times,

but something is going to break and sever an artery?

What do you do? So the reality is this, you need.

To be prepared now for the day that you die

fifty or one hundred years from now. Because I made

my eternal reservation in heaven. You can't just show up

to heaven and say I'm here, the man here, the

kids here, let me in, just gonna.

Say who are you? The only you know?

They say you have a special code or name or

what am I trying to say? Entrance thing that you say,

they're no open sesame.

It's just Jesus. That's it. That's the entry thing. The

magic word to get you in.

Is your name written in the Lamb's Book of life reservation. Today,

if you were to die somewhere take your last breath

between eleven o'clock tonight and five o'clock six o'clock tomorrow,

you need to.

Make sure that you're prepared.

And when you stand before the throne room of God,

you don't say.

Oops, what is this? Who are you?

It's all familiar to you. That's my Lord and Savior.

I've accepted him and now I'm going to be ushered

into glory. That's preparedness today. Will you give your life

to Jesus Christ today? And maybe you're a Christian, but

you're not serving the Lord as you should, and you

want to rededicate.

Your life to Lord.

Or you love God, but you're born of a spirit,

but you're not filled with the spirit, with the evidence
