  1. Well, praise God is good to see everybody on this

  2. day in service.

  3. Can we first give it up? This is a weekend.

  4. We got all of our campuses joining us, so Pomona, Alameda,

  5. here in Rancho, can we show them some love wherever

  6. our family is at. Every once in a while, across

  7. our campuses, we switch between live preaching and also video

  8. teaching so that we stay united as a campus. We're

  9. always preaching the same content. We have a preaching team

  10. where we all study the Word of God together every Tuesday,

  11. and we build our sermon with one another. Each person

  12. comes with something that they've been studying on that text,

  13. and we compile this certment together.

  14. And then there are times where I get to share

  15. it with all of our campuses, and.

  16. There's other times where our teaching team rotates between our

  17. campuses and shares live. So this is just one of

  18. those weekends that we're all joined together because we're launching

  19. a series that we're calling Red Letters. How many of you

  20. guys have ever gotten a Bible before and you open

  21. up your Bible and all the text was black except

  22. for Matthew, Mark Luke, and John was read.

  23. Have you ever noticed that before in your physical Bible.

  24. I know many of you, maybe seasoned saints, may know

  25. what that is, but there may be some newer people

  26. to faith who go, why are certain letters in my

  27. Bible read when others are black?

  28. Well, those are what we call the words of Jesus.

  29. Most modern day Bibles, when they're printed, anytime Jesus speaks

  30. recorded in the Gospels, they make it read just so

  31. you know right away this is something that Jesus has said.

  32. And so throughout this series, we're gonna be looking at

  33. some of the specific red letter moments in the Bible

  34. for the next four weeks.

  35. And what we're gonna do.

  36. To aid us in just a few moments is I

  37. don't know, have you ever seen that incredible series called

  38. Chosen that depicts the life of Jesus. Well, what we're

  39. gonna do is we're gonna allow the Bible for a

  40. moment to also jump out of its pages, read the

  41. passage of Scripture, and watch a short portion of Chosen,

  42. so that we see the Bible come to life. And

  43. then we're gonna dig into the message and so that

  44. not only are we reading about the words of Jesus,

  45. we're seeing it come to life, but also we're allowing

  46. God to apply it in our hearts. But before we

  47. do that, I just want to share a couple testimonies.

  48. Just today, I've been in Huntington.

  49. Beach all day because Baptized California has been going on,

  50. and so over ten thousand people have already showed up

  51. in Huntington Beach and thousands of people, over five thousand

  52. people already baptized. It goes till nine pm tonight, but

  53. it's been a move of God. There's been worships stirring

  54. all day. I got to be there. A bunch of

  55. our campus pastors showed up and was baptizing alongside of

  56. all other churches in the southern California. Literally as almost

  57. over I think fifty to sixty church pastors showed up

  58. just together to be united and baptized together all those

  59. that would hear the gospel and come.

  60. And so if you haven't been.

  61. Baptized yet, we as a church were joining all the

  62. churches in America called Baptize America on June.

  63. Eighth to be baptized.

  64. So if you haven't done that yet, make sure you

  65. go to our website Patriot Faith, and you could go

  66. to any of the campuses there and lock which one.

  67. But I also want to encourage you share your faith

  68. with somebody. Our last baptisms that we baptized over seven

  69. hundred and fifty people, there were a lot of people

  70. that said, I've actually never been to a patrie before.

  71. My coworkers shared their faith with me. They led me

  72. to Jesus and then they invited me to be baptized.

  73. That was actually the first step ever in our church.

  74. Was a friend that said, oh, other people they've come

  75. to faith through Instagram and YouTube, but they don't have

  76. a local church to grow.

  77. And so it's a.

  78. Great opportunity for you to share the love of Jesus

  79. with a friend. Guess what, a pastor doesn't have to

  80. lead someone to the Lord. That may totally blow your mind,

  81. but you can actually lead someone to the Lord as well.

  82. And so there is an anointing and calling on your life.

  83. God could speak.

  84. Through you and to you, just like he can any

  85. person on a stage. And so be bold over the

  86. next thirty days to invite a friend not just to church,

  87. but you share the love of Jesus with them, lead

  88. them to Christ and say hey, I'll celebrate with you.

  89. Come be baptized on June eighth across all of our campuses.

  90. And so that's something really exciting that we have going

  91. on as well. I'll say the second thing this and

  92. this is more of a regional, a family statement, but

  93. I'm gonna do it at all services over this weekend.

  94. I know we have campuses from all over. You know,

  95. we have Alameda in northern California and Pomona, and so

  96. you may not be familiar with this church, but in

  97. our local region, we have a legendary church that's like

  98. Patria named Water of Life. And I know everyone here

  99. you know who Water of Life is. Well, this weekend

  100. they're announcing the succession between Pastor Danny Carroll to his

  101. son Shane Carroll, who will be leading the church effective

  102. this weekend, to pastor.

  103. The church at Water of Life.

  104. And so not only do we celebrate that, I want

  105. for just a moment we as a church to pray

  106. for Water of Life because here's the reality. I'm sharing

  107. it with all of our campuses even this weekend. Because

  108. there is no church in competition with one another. There

  109. is no church that needs to compare ourselves with one another.

  110. We don't need to compare our worships. We don't need

  111. to compare our preaching, We don't need to compare our

  112. children's ministries, youth ministries, because this is a Kingdom endeavor.

  113. And so our family has already been praying for Pastor Shane.

  114. I text them just this afternoon. I said, I know

  115. this is a big weekend for you. Patria is on

  116. your side. And we believe that the best days of

  117. head are for Water of Life. And I think it's

  118. important that we as believers, we never get gossipy or

  119. we never get comparative. We get, Hey, every church that's

  120. doing the Lord's work, we are same team, same jersey,

  121. different last name on the back of the jersey, but

  122. we same team on the front.

  123. That's it. And so we as a community.

  124. We lift up our church over here, Water of Life,

  125. who we love so much and we've done so much

  126. ministry with over the years. And me and Shane we're

  127. just talking this afternoon and we said between Patreon, Water

  128. of Life, our best days as a family are ahead

  129. of us, not behind us. And so we're just so

  130. excited about what God is doing. And this goes for

  131. Pomona Alameda and any other campus we do in the future.

  132. We are a united family. This is a kingdom work,

  133. and there's only one name that matters.

  134. It is not a church name. His name is Jesus.

  135. And it's only by the power of the Holy Spirit

  136. that we can do that. So would you join me

  137. for just a moment as we uplift our family water

  138. of Life over in Fontana. God, we thank you so much, Lord,

  139. as thousands of churches this year will go through a transition.

  140. I just thank you Lord that the spirit of God

  141. is in the midst.

  142. Lord.

  143. I pray for Pastor Shame. I pray for his wife Amanda.

  144. Father God, I pray for their family.

  145. Lord. May you cover them. Lord. May you continue to

  146. anoint them and call them Father. God. We pray for

  147. the church at Water of Life. Lord.

  148. We pray that it thrives. We pray the Spirit of

  149. God dwells there more than ever.

  150. Lord.

  151. We pray that miracles, signs, and wonders continue to happen.

  152. God.

  153. We pray that you call people continually to repentance and

  154. love in Jesus at Water of Life.

  155. God.

  156. And I pray more than anything, God, God, that you

  157. continually manifest and use that church, Lord to make an

  158. impact for the Kingdom of God. Lord, we thank you

  159. for all the churches and all of our cities and

  160. all of our regions who are reaching.

  161. People for the love of Jesus Christ. Lord.

  162. May their harvest be plentiful, and may their workers be

  163. many in Jesus' name.

  164. Amen and Amen, Praise God.

  165. Well, hey, let's go to Matthew chapter five, verse thirty

  166. eight to forty one.

  167. I'm about to play this clip concerning Jesus. But here's

  168. what's gonna happen.

  169. I'm gonna play the clip first, then we're gonna stand

  170. for the reading. This is a unique clip that we're

  171. gonna share with you because when we understand the life

  172. and ministry of Jesus, here's something that you'll begin to see.

  173. Jesus often used physical things that were in front of

  174. him to illustrate spiritual truths.

  175. So there's a moment in.

  176. The Bible where Jesus says that if you ever cause

  177. a child or a little one to stumble, it's almost

  178. equivalent to putting a millstone around your neck and throwing

  179. yourself into a sea.

  180. Well, what Jesus was doing was.

  181. Where he was standing in this moment was next to

  182. an olive press. And an olive press had a millstone,

  183. and he was standing next to the Sea of Galilee.

  184. So he used something that was right next to him

  185. to create an illustration of the value that God finds

  186. about protecting children.

  187. And so there's a passage that we're going to read

  188. in the Bible.

  189. It's probably the most widely known non Christian passage in

  190. the Bible because it's where we get terms like when

  191. someone hits you, turn the other cheek, or if someone

  192. asks you to go a mile, go an extra mile.

  193. If you were to go out to the.

  194. Mall and ask people how many people know that statement,

  195. you probably would find eight and ten people know that statement.

  196. And then if you ask them, did you know that

  197. Jesus is the one who said those things? And probably

  198. majority would say no. I just thought that was an

  199. American saying that we created. But reality is it's a

  200. saying that Jesus created. And what Jesus did was he

  201. used something a yoke or a bondage that the Romans

  202. had on the Israelites to create a powerful moment that

  203. is meant to break the wall of retribution in someone's life.

  204. I don't know if someone has ever had an unrealistic

  205. expectation towards you, or maybe they've asked you to carry

  206. a weight or burden, or maybe they've tried to control

  207. you in a certain area. Well, Jesus does something radical.

  208. He says that when something like that is happening, you

  209. don't lash out, You actually lean into it, which is

  210. quite absurd in the age that we live in today.

  211. And so in the Chosen series, what they did was

  212. they took a word of Jesus about the truth of Rome,

  213. and then they made kind of a creative expression of

  214. an encounter that Jesus could have had with Roman guards.

  215. And so we're going to see this moment.

  216. We're going to read the passage, and then we're going

  217. to see how God applies it to our life.

  218. Let's check it out.

  219. Jewish citizens, disarm yourselves and leave your bags.

  220. You're carry ours now.

  221. Under Roman law, a soldier can force the you the

  222. giddiest thing.

  223. There is a legal limit, a maximum of one mile.

  224. And Fidler.

  225. Said, this is humili We will comply with dignity.

  226. What must have been like walking.

  227. Around all day with no metal, weighing your head down,

  228. never have helmet hair.

  229. You too?

  230. I think I'm not made of straw I can carry. Master,

  231. Let me take that, you know, which is no more

  232. unshootable on my head than any of yours.

  233. Both know that it's not true.

  234. Thank you for your concerns. I never could have imagined

  235. a moment like this, he said, to submit, So we

  236. submit the painful irony of some of these teaching.

  237. The cones. The sign is the mile marker in your

  238. entire lives. I bet you've never been so grateful for

  239. the enshrined Roman law. We know this has been an

  240. honor for all of you.

  241. Stop here, I said, stop.

  242. The destination is that outpost a mile ahead? Yes it is,

  243. but we're only permitted one mile.

  244. Like coersion, there's no law against citizens assisting you the

  245. rest of the way of.

  246. Their own volition. Come, my friends.

  247. But if anyone says anything, say that we offered.

  248. Ray? Why what are we doing? Why would we just

  249. have romans to this? Where did we meet.

  250. At the sermon on the Currisine plane?

  251. Good?

  252. Whenever you are trumped in fact on my message.

  253. Maybe uh, let us take back the helmets so there's

  254. no confusion at the old host.

  255. If you like, give me that, yeah, that I'll take you.

  256. I've got it.

  257. Hey, if anyone forces you to go, one may go

  258. with him too.

  259. Wow, let's see what the Bible has to say about

  260. that moment. Honestly, just watching that clip to me convict me,

  261. you know, deeply. And then when we see just how

  262. deep that this moment is part of Jesus' sermon on

  263. the Mount. So you may say, where's that exact interaction

  264. in the Bible. Well, that's a creative expression to what

  265. Jesus would have taught regularly to the Israelites. It was

  266. really common that there was a law in Rome. Any

  267. occupied place that they held, they would have a law

  268. what they were called impressment. An impressment is a law

  269. that says a government established system can impose to any

  270. of its citizens or anyone under its control, to do

  271. whatever it wants. And so when Rome came into Israel

  272. to control it and to occupy it, it established impressment,

  273. which was when we tell you to do something or

  274. we ask you to do something.

  275. But because they didn't want it.

  276. To particularly be abused and create riots, the law was

  277. limited to only one thousand Roman paces, which to us

  278. would be a little under a mile.

  279. And so Jesus makes this statement that we're going to see.

  280. Which would have absolutely blown the children of Israel away

  281. because they're hoping that Rome just gets out of here.

  282. They want their problem's gone. And what Jesus does he

  283. leans into their issues and says, the way that you

  284. break someone's hard heart is not through necessary a liberated

  285. place or a fighting stance. The way that you break

  286. someone's heart is through love and service. It's through an

  287. extreme love that shows people if you have hate in

  288. your heart, I have love in my heart. I don't

  289. fight hate for hate. I fight darkness with light. And

  290. that's what Jesus challenges us to do as followers of Jesus,

  291. and to be honest. There are times in our life

  292. where that is a hard pill to swallow because who

  293. Jesus is talking about is not your favorite people or

  294. even your favorite moments. He's talking about difficult moments. He's

  295. talking about people that you and I.

  296. Can't stand.

  297. Or in moments we may love them, but sure do

  298. they annoy us. That's what Jesus is talking about. I

  299. want you to see at Matthew five, verse thirty eight.

  300. We're gonna watch read a few verses. If you like

  301. to stand with me, you're more than welcome to will

  302. show God the honor by just standing for just a

  303. moment across all campuses.

  304. Here's what Jesus says.

  305. This is a powerful moment that has been recorded through

  306. thousands of years. During the sermon on the Mount, Jesus

  307. takes a step and he says this. You have heard

  308. it that it was said an eye for an eye,

  309. and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you,

  310. do not risk the one who is evil. But if

  311. anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him

  312. to the other.

  313. Also give him your left cheek. And if anyone would.

  314. Sue you and take your tunic, let him have your

  315. cloak as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile,

  316. go with him two miles.

  317. I mean you would have heard an audible.

  318. Gasp at that moment if Jesus said that, because they

  319. know it is only connected to the Romans. And he says,

  320. give to the one who begs from you, and do

  321. not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

  322. You see, you may be seated.

  323. Jesus makes a powerful statement that says that this is

  324. during a sermon, and we think that sermons and messages

  325. are very head driven, and it's about knowledge and intellect.

  326. But what happens is when you read around the Sermon

  327. on the Mount, Jesus is sharing knowledge to create action

  328. from people. And Jesus makes it clear that following Jesus

  329. is not about what you know. It's about how far

  330. you're willing to go. That's what following Jesus is about. D. L. Moody,

  331. the Great Preacher, said this, the Bible was not given

  332. for our information, but for our transformation.

  333. So what does Jesus encourage us.

  334. To do in the moments that we just saw depicted

  335. in just a short clip and also through his own words.

  336. I just want to break it down with three very

  337. simple thoughts that I think can transform our walk with

  338. Jesus and honestly transform people's lives because we think that

  339. sharing the message of Jesus and the Gospel is a

  340. matter of saying the right things that will convince them

  341. that Jesus's Lord. But oftentimes it is through our actions

  342. on how we love when times are hard, and when

  343. people are hard, and when things are difficult, people go.

  344. I mean, Jesus has to be real because anyone else

  345. in that circumstance would have reacted any other way. But

  346. because that person has the light of Jesus, there may

  347. be something to this man.

  348. You see.

  349. If you're taking notes, I want to share with you.

  350. Jesus encourages us in this moment that we are called

  351. to carry what others drop. God has called you and

  352. I to carry what other people are unwilling to carry

  353. and do what other people would think is crazy. Jesus said,

  354. if anyone slaps you on the right treat cheek, turn

  355. and give them the other. God calls us through a

  356. standard that bears love when someone may bear hate in

  357. your life. He calls you to carry a person's burden,

  358. even a soldier's burden, when you feel.

  359. Like it's not right.

  360. This is wrong, this is abuse, this is taking advantage of.

  361. Me, This is annoying me right now.

  362. And Jesus says, give them the other cheek, carry their

  363. things and go. If they ask you to go a

  364. mile with them, give them two miles. No, we want

  365. Jesus to say that you're a child of God and

  366. you're better than walking with that person. That person's a sinner,

  367. that person has hate in their heart. That prayer, you

  368. shouldn't walk with them at all. Jesus says no, give

  369. them another cheek, walk with them, another mile, them, another moment,

  370. have another conversation. Because you see, love carries burdens that

  371. don't belong to you, because Jesus carried our burdens.

  372. I want to be a burden bearer.

  373. If Jesus would carry my pain, if Jesus would carry

  374. my brokenness, if Jesus would carry my embarrassing things, then

  375. maybe God has called me to carry for others. Just this.

  376. Just this past week, I met a Christian man at

  377. a conference and he told me one of the things

  378. that he enjoys to do, he loves golf, but he

  379. also loves to talk about Jesus. And so what he

  380. does from time to time is when he plays golf,

  381. if he has time, kind of throughout the day after

  382. he doesn't have to rush to anything or anything like that.

  383. What he'll do is when he's done golfing, he'll go

  384. to the clubhouse and he'll have lunch. And while he'll

  385. have lunch, he'll look for men that are drinking too much.

  386. If you didn't know that.

  387. Oftentimes, not always, but oftentimes cigar smoking and drinking goes

  388. hand in hand with golf.

  389. It's a business. Thing that people do, and they drink

  390. a lot, and they smoke a lot of cigars.

  391. And they a lot of them don't even pay attention

  392. to their golf game. They're just there to have a

  393. good time. So what he likes to do is he

  394. goes to the restaurant. He looks for men that are

  395. drinking too much, and then he approaches them and says,

  396. are you driving home after this? If they say yes,

  397. he offers them and says, I don't mean to judge.

  398. I haven't been watching how much you've been drinking, but

  399. how many of you guys know when someone's drunk. You

  400. can tell. You don't think we can tell, but we

  401. can tell. You know, you get a little topsy, you

  402. get a little stumbly.

  403. We can see it.

  404. So what he does is he says, I would love

  405. to take you home so that you don't drive, If you're.

  406. Okay with that.

  407. Oftentimes people say yes, I would love you to do that.

  408. And what he does is he takes.

  409. Them home, and obviously in the moment, they're not coherent,

  410. and so what he does is he put he says,

  411. give me your soul phone number, and then while they're

  412. in the seat drunk and the under the influence. The

  413. next day he texts them and he says, I just

  414. want to make sure that you're safe.

  415. The person says, yeah, I'm good. And then what he

  416. does is he says, I'd.

  417. Love to take you out to coffee if you're ever interested,

  418. and he talks to them about Jesus more times than not.

  419. He shared with me how many people he's led to Christ.

  420. Not because he expected them to.

  421. Be fixed before they met Jesus.

  422. But this man is willing to carry someone's burden that

  423. you and I would actually look at as a nuisance

  424. quite annoying. I don't want to be around a drunk person.

  425. I don't want to be around someone that I don't

  426. know what they're gonna do. And also you say I

  427. don't want a stranger in my car, and maybe that's

  428. not for everyone, but this man feels called to carry

  429. someone's burden.

  430. I just think that I thought to myself in that moment, like.

  431. How are we missing opportunities to not carry what people

  432. are going through? To go an extra mile? This man

  433. has gone an extra ten, fifteen, twenty miles forts just

  434. so he'll have one opportunity to talk to them about Jesus. Augustine,

  435. the Great Church Father says, what does love look like?

  436. It has a hand to help others. It's this.

  437. You must be the one who bears the burden. That's

  438. what Jesus called us to do. That's what Jesus called

  439. us in our life because commonly what happens is common

  440. for the Roman soldier, I have all of this armor,

  441. and what they were able to do this was anywhere

  442. between forty five to sixty pounds of armor. And any

  443. Roman soldier could pass off whatever weight they had and

  444. would say, you need to come. It is your duty,

  445. or you will go to prison if you don't walk

  446. this mile with me. And the average Jewish person would say, Jesus,

  447. if you are king of kings and you are lord

  448. of lords, tell them that.

  449. They can kick rocks. Tell them that.

  450. Your God is bigger than whatever armor they have. Jesus,

  451. you could kill them with just one word. But Jesus says,

  452. if they tell you to go one mile, go to

  453. because what's gonna happen on the second mile. Their heart

  454. is gonna begin to be broken because they're gonna notice

  455. how they've taken advantage of you. You get asked to

  456. stay one hour, maybe at work, maybe you give two huh.

  457. They tell you to come in early at work, thirty

  458. minutes early. Maybe you come an hour early at work.

  459. Or maybe your spouse has been talking to you and

  460. asking you to do something, and maybe they've been hurting

  461. about something or going through something, and maybe they're just

  462. asking you for a mile, and you know, you think

  463. it's a burden or you think it's a nuisance, but

  464. you're saying, you know what, I have a decision to make.

  465. I can either lash out or I can go a

  466. second mile. This isn't fun, This isn't joyful. Jesus's words

  467. weren't something that had a promise at the end of it.

  468. Its if you are a disciple of mine, this is

  469. what I want you to do, if you want to

  470. show love like I am showing love to the world,

  471. he says, this is how you do it. You turn

  472. the other cheek, you walk the extra mile. They sue you,

  473. You give them what they want. Jesus, just stop, man,

  474. this is too much. I don't want to play this

  475. game anymore. I had this conviction just last week. My

  476. wife's here, she doesn't even know. I don't always tell

  477. her the things that I'm gonna share. But just this

  478. last week, my wife was going through some things that

  479. were stressing her out. Had nothing to do with me,

  480. thank god, but it's stressing her out.

  481. So she sits down.

  482. We're at lunch with our boys, and she just starts

  483. sharing what was stressing her out. And I looked up

  484. and I said, please, babe, stop, I have so much

  485. going on right now. I don't want to hear that

  486. right now. And i'd ooh, you guys, you married men,

  487. you know when your wife just locks up like see.

  488. It was.

  489. It was almost as if I took gorilla glue and

  490. I put it on her lips and I held them

  491. there for two minutes.

  492. That thing was not going to open up.

  493. And literally the moment, the moment it came out of

  494. my mouth, I just I wanted I wanted to. I

  495. wanted to, I wanted to grab it, and I wanted

  496. to pull it back because I knew what the I

  497. knew what the end result was, so and so, and

  498. I took like a ten second breath. I realized how

  499. dumb it was that I did, and then I looked

  500. up and I said, I'm just so sorry. I just

  501. I don't I lashed out I don't. I don't even

  502. know why I did. I'm sorry. I just you know,

  503. I'm stressed and that stuff it makes me more stress,

  504. and you think it doesn't have anything to do with me,

  505. But then I want to I want to help you

  506. and I want to fix your problems too, and it

  507. just but it shouldn't have said it. And how many

  508. of you guys know it took a few hours. Now,

  509. if I didn't say anything, I probably would have took

  510. a few days or I maybe still.

  511. Would be experiencing that. But it did.

  512. It took a few hours to get the moment back

  513. because what my wife did is she said, this is

  514. a forty five pound workout bad. What my wife did

  515. is she said this, She said, this is a weight

  516. I have right now.

  517. Would you just carry this with me?

  518. And what I did is I said, there's nothing to.

  519. Do with me.

  520. This is your weight, phone a friend, call a prayer warrior,

  521. do anything but give.

  522. It to me.

  523. And sure enough, I wasn't even preparing for this sermon yet.

  524. And the moment I start writing, and the moment I

  525. write that word carry the way, God was just like,

  526. you know, you didn't do that with your wife, right,

  527. And I went, oh, I didn't, and then I made excuses, said,

  528. but I apologized. But what's gonna happen is do I

  529. can show the next time she tries to give me this,

  530. what am I gonna do? And then if she says, well,

  531. you carry this with me, and then yeah, and then

  532. I give her ten.

  533. Minutes and she says, okay, I gave you ten minutes.

  534. You're good.

  535. You could go back to whatever you're doing. And I

  536. say no, no, no, no, no, tell me more.

  537. What else is going on? What else is happening? You

  538. see what happens is what will happen is Jesus says, you.

  539. Will set such a big example if you.

  540. Go further carrying this for people. He says, you will

  541. begin to.

  542. Break walls and barriers and soften hearts.

  543. If someone says, hey, this is yours and you go

  544. like this, yes, give it to me, and then they say.

  545. You could drop it right there, and you say no,

  546. come on, let's keep going. See what happens people, world.

  547. It may be rough because who does this in the

  548. world today? Who loves like this in the world today? Man,

  549. you listen, you slap me, I slap back, you slap

  550. one cheek me your butt gonna get kicked. You'll be

  551. another cheek. But you but if you slap and Jesus says,

  552. you've heard it, I for an eye. But he goes,

  553. not in my kingdom, not in my house. You I

  554. fry in my house. You you break my message, you

  555. pervert my words.

  556. And so he said, someone slaps.

  557. You go, hey, I got one right here. And you know,

  558. if you invite someone most of the time to slap again,

  559. they start thinking Number one, either you're crazy.

  560. Or two, maybe they.

  561. Can't hurt you like they thought they could, and maybe

  562. they can't affect you the way that you thought that

  563. you could affect them.

  564. Here's the second thought is this is.

  565. Not only uh, not only do we find that God

  566. has called us to carry what others drop. Second thing

  567. is God wants us to climb when it gets hard.

  568. Jesus's words is a statement to climb. I'm higher than

  569. what other people will climb. Love more than other people

  570. will love, forgive deeper than other people would forgive.

  571. Hands off. He talks about lawsuits in this.

  572. He's saying this, He's saying, go bay resources. Don't worry

  573. about resources. God has resources.

  574. And so he's talking us.

  575. To say, man, when you meet affliction, when you meet

  576. a heel that you just cannot climb.

  577. What he says, He says this. John Chrisostom says.

  578. This, To love those who do us wrong is greater

  579. than any miracle. To love those who do us wrong

  580. is greater than any miracle. He says, Climb when it

  581. gets hard, when you start feeling the burden, when you

  582. start feeling the way, when you when you see that

  583. person and you want to turn the other direction, or

  584. you want to turn the other way, or when those

  585. words feel like they cut deep, and they sure do.

  586. Jesus says this. He says, climb, climb, go love him.

  587. Don't show him that side, because that side at the beginning,

  588. he says, that side is for the enemy. That side

  589. reflects the enemy. That side is a child of darkness.

  590. And God has called us through a better.

  591. Standard of darkness. And it's hard.

  592. And what the enemy will try to do is he

  593. will try to have us come to retaliation so that

  594. he can inhibit your ability to get closer with God.

  595. And he will throw whatever it is that he can,

  596. whatever he can, he will throw it at you. Whatever

  597. is happening, he will throw it. He will throw at you.

  598. Legal he will throw at you. Weights, he will throw

  599. at you, government abuse, he will throw at you, boss abuse,

  600. and job abuse he will buy you. Know, all these

  601. things you just throw at you. And Jesus said, all

  602. he wants you to do is break. And we know

  603. according to the Book of Acts, that not by our

  604. power and our spirit, is by the power of the

  605. whole Holy Spirit that you can do all things, like

  606. Philippian says, you can do all things through Jesus Christ,

  607. who strengthens.

  608. You through every affliction. That's God's strength, that's God's grace.

  609. And the enemy would love for you to think that

  610. this moment is about you and for you alone, and

  611. you are by yourself, and you are isolated, because if

  612. he can isolate you, as the Word of God says

  613. in Peter, if he can find you like a lion,

  614. roaring looking who he may devour, he is trying to

  615. devour you. And by acting out on these things, Satan

  616. looks at someone that's on the weaker side of things,

  617. that's not strengthened by God's spirit. There was a moment

  618. that I somewhat fell prey to that a few years ago.

  619. It was around twenty one, twenty twenty two, Pastor Diego

  620. went on a three month sabbatical. His health wasn't doing

  621. too good, and so it was an emergency sabbatical, and

  622. so the board said, Adam, we need you to jump

  623. in and.

  624. For the next twelve weeks, you got to preach every weekend.

  625. And I said, okay.

  626. Prior to that time, I had only preached about four

  627. times a year, and so going from four times a

  628. year to twelve weekends back to back, and that was

  629. quite a lot for me. And so and so what

  630. happened was, though, is prior to that, during COVID started

  631. in twenty twenty, we had a transition of an employee

  632. who ran all of our emails and social media, and

  633. you know, twenty twenty was chaotic for all of us,

  634. and so since we couldn't hire and replace that role,

  635. I basically stepped into that role. And so basically, from

  636. twenty twenty to twenty twenty one, I was the one

  637. that responded to any person's DM in the church, anyone's

  638. email in the church, anyone's question in the church, and

  639. also anyone's concern in the church. During that time, I

  640. calculated we had about six hundred to seven hundred inquiries

  641. in twelve months. Probably about half of those were not

  642. happy people because they wanted COVID to happen, you know,

  643. our response to COVID happened this way or that way

  644. or that way. And so I specifically remember one time

  645. I emailed someone who was upset at our church about something,

  646. and I emailed them back and they and they were

  647. very nasty, you know, very nasty. And I thought to myself,

  648. they maybe they just think I'm some you know, and

  649. because I knew who the person was, and I thought,

  650. maybe maybe they just think that I'm some ambiguous person

  651. who's talking to them. So I tell them, this is

  652. Pastor Adam, and we love you and we're so sorry

  653. that you're upset. And he goes and he and he

  654. go and he goes like this, just so you're aware,

  655. you're a nobody and no one wants.

  656. You in the role. I was crushed. I also got.

  657. Really insecure, and so then what happened was really from

  658. that time going to twenty twenty. About a few months later,

  659. Pastor Diego goes on sabbatical and the board goes, you're

  660. gonna preach every weekend, And I thought, I'll preach on

  661. every weekend as long as I don't have to talk

  662. to anybody, because when you're the person who's just getting

  663. the heat every single weekend because you're the one tasked

  664. to email and respond to everyone, and when they find

  665. out it's you know, who's the son to the pastor,

  666. then it's like, now, really tell you what how I'm feeling.

  667. And so I got extremely insecure. And there was a moment.

  668. I remember, you may have been coming to church this long.

  669. What happened was for the first two weeks that I

  670. stepped in for Pastor Diego, I never went outside to

  671. the courtyard. I didn't go outside. I just closed service

  672. and I went to the back. It wasn't because I

  673. was being boogie or gaudy. I was scared of anyone

  674. giving me negative feedback.

  675. I was scared. I was afraid. I was insecure. People

  676. slapped me enough, people.

  677. Threw weight at me enough that I was like, I

  678. don't want to carry anyone's anything because I don't think

  679. I could handle it. And so then what happens is

  680. on the second week, Dale Piper is on audio team.

  681. He's not here today.

  682. He sent me a word from God and he said,

  683. God told me to tell you during service today, you

  684. need not.

  685. Be afraid to love the people, and that if you

  686. continue to be afraid and let the enemy win.

  687. Yes, people may say things, yes, you may have this,

  688. but there are more people that are hungry for God.

  689. There are more people excited for God.

  690. What the enemy has done is elevated outside voices. And

  691. so what happened was he said, I don't know if

  692. anyone's told you, but I think you need to go

  693. out and love people like your dad historically has done.

  694. So I responded to him, I said, you're right, I'm

  695. gonna do it this weekend. But when I reflected, I

  696. reflected in that moment, I said, what the enemy wanted

  697. me to do is to say I don't want to

  698. carry anything. I don't want anything I want. I want

  699. the blessing of God using me in a calling, but

  700. I don't want the burden of other people's brokenness, or

  701. I don't want the burden of what other people are

  702. going through or how other people are wordy. But you

  703. can't have the blessing without people's burdens.

  704. You can't. You can't. You can't go.

  705. Through the red Sea without experiencing a moment where Moses

  706. is up in the mountain. It's in that moment that

  707. we start to say, am I making idols?

  708. Or am I staying committed to Lord?

  709. Because what what happened is you can have a red

  710. Sea moment where Jesus provides, but you can also have

  711. a moment where someone throws words at you that you

  712. weren't expecting. And what the enemy wants us to do

  713. is he wants us to retaliate.

  714. He wants us to respond.

  715. And what happens if he gets us to retaliate and

  716. to respond. And so nowadays what happens is someone it's

  717. every once in a while still come to me and

  718. they'll say, I'm upset with the church about something, but

  719. I don't want to offend you, And I said, I

  720. always tell him, I say, you couldn't offend me if.

  721. You tried, because I went through that already.

  722. I've heard pretty much almost anything you can imagine, and

  723. I've made the decision that I'm unoffendable. And they go, okay,

  724. well let me try, and then they try, and then

  725. I go, I love you, I'm sorry, and then we.

  726. Move on and I go to Chipotle after service. And

  727. that's how it is. Here's the last thought.

  728. Is this what God wants to do is what he

  729. wants to cultivate something in you what other people ignore.

  730. The reason why Jesus wants you to love and go

  731. the extra mile and turn the other cheek and continue

  732. to persist where others won't present because God wants to

  733. build something.

  734. In you that others don't want built in their life.

  735. God wants to cultivate something in you and I, and

  736. so what he calls us to do in verse forty two,

  737. he says, give to the one who bites from you,

  738. do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

  739. Because what Jesus is saying is if.

  740. You recognize that God is your supplier, God is your resource,

  741. God is your covering, then he says, then everything that

  742. people need, God can give you more. God can increase.

  743. God can cover and use you regardless of the moment.

  744. You see Henry now and said, community is the fruit

  745. of our capacity to make the interest of others more

  746. important than our own. Cultivation is obedience without applause. You see,

  747. you and I know that God is cultivating in something

  748. in us when we do something out of love and

  749. we don't look over our shoulder to see who saw it.

  750. That's what obedience to Jesus is.

  751. You see, obedience to Jesus is loving someone and when

  752. you do it, you don't look over your shoulder to

  753. see who saw it. That's what being obedient.

  754. To Jesus is. But we live in a world.

  755. That says, if I'm gonna love, it better be recorded

  756. for TikTok, I better be able to monetize this.

  757. If I give one hundred.

  758. Dollars, I better be able to get one thousand dollars

  759. back out of this.

  760. I'm not talking about church. I'm just talking about in

  761. life that we do this.

  762. It's this view that says, if I do something I

  763. it better be double, tripled, quadruple. But what Jesus says

  764. is what we do for others is not about us.

  765. It's about them.

  766. It's about showing them that God has provided more worth

  767. than their life than they thought they had. It's a

  768. moment that says that God values and loves them regardless

  769. of where their heart is at right there, it's what happens.

  770. What the Holy Spirit will do is when you love

  771. others where other people don't see it, the Holy Spirit

  772. will begin to chip away at their brokenness, chip away

  773. at their pain. That's what Jesus has called us to do.

  774. So with closing thoughts as I then pray and close

  775. all of our campuses. When someone is difficult, carry something

  776. for them. When the task is hard, climb higher, and

  777. when the work is hidden, cultivate that allow God to

  778. call us to a higher standard than what others are

  779. willing to go. That's what Jesus says on the Sermon

  780. of the Mount that if someone slaps you, give them

  781. the other cheek. If someone forces you to go a mile,

  782. give them another mile. And if someone asks something of

  783. you or borrows something from you.

  784. He says, give without cause.

  785. If you think about it, we could just spend the

  786. next twelve months of our life on those three things,

  787. and I would find reason every week that I still

  788. fail at those three things, because I'm still human and

  789. I still find difficulty in these things. But Jesus has

  790. caused us to climb to a higher level.

  791. But also the spirit of God.

  792. Is the one driving you. Let's pray today, God, we

  793. thank you for this word.

  794. Lord. I pray that in this moment.

  795. Across our campus is God, you would speak to us

  796. and you would use us Lord, use us to be

  797. examples of people that follow Jesus, not out of pride

  798. or not out of significance of what that brings to us.

  799. But we follow Jesus because You've transformed our life, and

  800. there is power in our life today God, and we

  801. want others to see the power of love that God

  802. has shown us.

  803. So, Jesus, as.

  804. You have carried our burden, may you help us to

  805. carry others. I pray through our love and our actions,

  806. we may show people that though we know.

  807. Jesus, we also follow Jesus. We walk like Jesus, and

  808. we talk like Jesus, and we pursue Jesus in every

  809. step of our way. Jesus's name.

  810. Amen, We're all going to leave right here in a

  811. matter of moments together. But I just want to make

  812. an invitation of faith. If you don't know Jesus Christ

  813. is your personal Lord and savior, I want to encourage

  814. you today that there's no better day to follow Jesus

  815. than the day that you hear the Gospel. Oftentimes people

  816. will say what I want to do is I want

  817. to get my life together and then I'll follow Jesus. Well,

  818. we cannot do that on our own. It's only by

  819. the power of God and the grace of God that

  820. we can actually have a relationship with Jesus. The Bible

  821. makes it clear that there is a moment when the

  822. gospel of Jesus is shared, which is this that Jesus

  823. died on the cross for your sins, and three days

  824. later he resurrected from the grave to show us that

  825. death has been defeated and he has saved all those

  826. who would follow him, and anyone who would hear it

  827. and believe in that would be saved. Here's the moment

  828. that God begins to work on you and I it's

  829. when that message is given. Jesus says that he knocks

  830. on the door of your heart. He says, whoever would

  831. open their heart and allow him to step in, then

  832. he will dine with them.

  833. Which means that you will be a new creation.

  834. But he says, anyone who rejects that knock, he's not

  835. going to force his way in. And so today, as

  836. many people may be watching online or be in this room,

  837. that you may find yourself at a place that says,

  838. I feel God knocking right now. Now it's time for

  839. your chance to respond to that. How do you respond

  840. to that. You respond to that by simply saying this, Jesus,

  841. I believe I repent to my sins.

  842. I know I'm imperfect, I know I'm broken.

  843. And I know I cannot attain a relationship with God

  844. on my own. I believe that Jesus died on the

  845. cross and he rose from my sins. When you make

  846. that belief in that confession of faith, the Word of

  847. God says that your name is written in a book

  848. called the Lamb's Book of Life, and the Bible says

  849. that for every person that would give their life to Christ, all.

  850. Of Heaven would rejoice.

  851. And so if you're here today and you're ready to

  852. make that decision, I'm going to ask that right now.

  853. In just a moment, we're going to say a prayer

  854. of confession together. The prayer isn't the thing that saves us.

  855. All we're doing is affirming what God is doing in

  856. this moment. And so if you're here today and you

  857. want to do that, we're all gonna say prayer together.

  858. And at the end, I'm gonna count to three.

  859. All I want you to do is raise your hand

  860. so that we can welcome you into the family of God.

  861. Can we all say this together.

  862. Family, Can we say, Dear Lord Jesus, in this moment,

  863. I confess you as my Lord and Savior. I believe

  864. in my heart that you died on the cross and

  865. you rose three days later. From this day forward, I

  866. commit to follow you for the rest of my days

  867. in Jesus' name. Amen, on the count of three, raise

  868. your hand if you said that today, so we can

  869. celebrate with you and welcome family. Hands are already going up, one, two, three,

  870. Raise your hand up in the air. Hey, welcome to

  871. the Family of God. So many hands going on, so

  872. many commitments. Truly, welcome to the family of God. Our

  873. church name is Patriot, which means family, but specifically family

  874. who have made Jesus their Lord and savior. And so

  875. when you say yes to Jesus, you join the family

  876. and you become part of the Patriot. And we want

  877. a journey alongside of you. Pastor Aaron's gonna close us out.

  878. He's gonna tell you, if you raise your hand today,

  879. what those next steps would be. Offer some prayer and

  880. we'll leave here with church together. Pastor Aaron, would you

  881. close us out.

  882. Let's celebrate Jesus for what he accomplished to his word, carry, climb,

  883. and cultivate.

  884. I love it.

  886. there's some information on the screens www.

  888. We want to give you a book from our founding

  889. pastor that just talks about next steps in your faith journey.

  891. Sunday at nine am called Growth Track that just teaches

  892. you about our values and our vision, but most importantly

  894. be a blessing to your family and community.

  895. Amen. So we invite you to do that. This all

  896. stand to our feet.
